- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, welcome back to Bible Tract Echoes.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike McCurray your host.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for taking your time joining me today We're in second Kings chapter two.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a lot of ground to cover and just a little bit of time to do so We've been looking at a large being caught up the very end of his ministry in second Kings chapter two But he leaves behind a worthy replacement a man named a live show
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: Elijah did some great things.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: He actually did double the miracles of Elijah, if you can believe that.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: But in St. King's chapter 2, Elijah, he is on his way to the translation point to the place where God is going to take him away.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: And he tells Elijah, stay here, stay here.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Elijah says, no, I can't do it.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: I've got to go with you.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: And this happens three times in total.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Elijah trying to tell the young man, you don't need to have to come all the way with me.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: Elijah says, I'm coming.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm coming.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: But we learn some things from the life of Elijah.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: And in St. King's chapter two, we notice throughout the ministry of Elijah, not just in St. King's, but Elijah never discouraged Elijah.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you realize their names are very, very similar.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: But listen, Alaisha never the young man never discouraged Alaisha.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: You realize Alaisha, he had some down days, but they weren't due to Alaisha.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: You won't find in scripture that Alaisha disappointed the older man of God.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: Alaisha, the young man never departed from Alaisha.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: After Elijah was caught up, and God took him.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Elijah didn't feel the need to say anything degrading, anything demeaning about his mentor, and Elijah didn't show up.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't try to prove he was a bigger man.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't try to one up the old man of God.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: He also never declined to stand.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: He always hit a rock, ribbed conviction about things.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: In Joshua 1-7, the Bible tells us that,
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: that the children of Israel need a little bit of encouragement, and they were told only be thou strong and very courageous that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses might serve a command of the turn not from it to the right hand or to the left.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think of Acts 4, but Peter and John answered and said that they were trying to be told be quiet.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: Don't speak of these things, Peter and John answered and said that whether it be right in the side of God, to harking unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: You figure out who should we be listening to, but or for.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard in Laisha, the young man, here that same mentality, here that same DNA, he had to say, what God wanted him to say, but it's interesting as we hear on the cusp of the last day of the broadcast, I want to point something out that Laisha never duplicated the slump of Elijah.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: He realized Elijah in 1st King's 19.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: He had a little bit of a struggle with being down, with depression, with some anxiety, maybe.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: God helped him through that.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thankful for gracious God.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: But as you look at Elijah's ministry, think about this, Elijah, we've observed already this week that Elijah, the younger man, the next generation, he did double the miracles that Elijah did.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: But he did it without a slump.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: He did it without that running away period.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: He did it without faltering in the same way, at least I'll say this, at least without
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's a special kind of foolishness when you are too proud to learn from the experience of others.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: a lie should it twice as much, apparently without burnout?
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: What kind of foolishness is it when a young man is too proud to learn from the hardships of those who came before?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: As powerful as Elijah was, as much of a character, it's almost a caricature of what you think a prophet of God should be.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's got all the tools Elijah did.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: He just had this way about him.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: But the fire from heaven had barely cooled that burnt up the offering in First King's 18, the prophets bail, the blood is just run out because he's killed them all, what a victory.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: and Elijah's running for the hills, literally.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: He begged God to take his life under the Juniper tree overwhelmed, isolated, burned out.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: But Elijah, we don't see him in Scripture running like that.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's no record of Elijah ever retreating to a cave.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't quit, he didn't collapse, he didn't fade into the background.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: While Elijah ran from Jezebel, and I'm not talking about this to highlight Elijah and put him down,
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: Realize Elijah stood surrounded by an army in St. King's 6 and calmly told his servant fear not.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: For they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: He prayed, God opened the young man's eyes to see the heavenly host.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: A lie shouldn't slump maybe because he stayed spiritually full.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: He relied on divine strength, not personal fire.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't isolate himself, he invested in others, he didn't shut down, he pressed on.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: And unlike Elijah, who exited in a whirlwind, a lie shut fought on, until he was sick and ready to die, and even then, the king wept at his bedside, he burned until the end.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: No cave, no collapse just continued, faithfulness.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Isaiah 4031, but they that weighed upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles they shall run and not be weary they shall walk, and not faint.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: Saint Corinthians 4, 16 for which cause, we faint not, but though our outward man perished yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thankful personally for my forefathers that have taught these lessons to me.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think of a man, I won't give you his name, but I was talking to him about how I'm trying to be careful.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's an evangelist, good man, faithful, many decades.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: I was talking to him, really getting counsel from him about trying to be wise about being away from my girls, they're still young, they're formative years and
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: I talked about the fact that how many days I was away from my girl's last year.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was a lot more than it should have been, I think.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: And so I looked at my schedule for this year and I decided, nope, that's a high-water mark I'm never going over that again.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: God, being my help, my witness, I'm not doing it.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I cut things with my schedule, thankfully, so many pastors and folks.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're accommodating their help most many many things can just be kicked back to the next year, you know, that goes if it's important this year It'll be more important next year, you know I'm blessed with a full schedule and if you're looking to book me or something like that, I feel free to reach you I don't not tell any to not but it might be I tell you hey, you know, I'm booked up this year and we'll look in next year Regardless, I'd love to hear from you.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: I sell a few open spots for this year, but
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: I was talking to him and he said this, I appreciate the transparency with which he spoke.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: He said, Michael, if I had been thinking this way, when I was your age, it would have made a difference in my children.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: My children may be, may have been better off.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: Family wise spiritually, if I would have been thinking about this, when my children wore your, your children's age, you say, I would have said thing to say, but no, no, no, he was teaching me something and he was willing to, as my mentor, he was willing to bear his heart and tell me a hard thing from personal experience and what a fool that would be.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: The last thing I'd like to give you for today is this, Alaisha.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have, I don't have clear scripture for this one, but I do have a strong feeling I'm not incorrect.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'll be careful.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: I want to tell you if this comes across as a opinion to some degree.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: This is called BiolaTract Echoes, and I've given a whole lot of scriptural backup, and I'm going to give you more scriptural backup for what I'm about to say here.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't believe Alaisha.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he never dismissed the stories about Alaisha.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a chapter in a verse that Alaisha sat down by the fire and told his serving Gahey as I stories about Alaisha calling down fire from heaven or outrunning a habs chariot, but I'd be shocked if he didn't.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: Some folks act like we've outgrown the old stories.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like we need something so fresh in a relevant.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: If you can't still get stirred up when you hear about whether literally or figuratively about Elijah at the Brook chair of Thor that widows barrel of meal that never ran out of the boy as he took his first gasp of breath after Elijah raised him back up.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's with your heart.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Lies shouldn't just carry the mantle.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think you could make the case that he carried the memories too.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't dismiss the stories.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think he treasured him.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: And the word of God is clear.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a script you'll back up.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: I can't speak for exactly what Lies should did or didn't do in this area.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: but we are supposed to do that.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: The Word of God's Clear.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm 78.4.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord and His strength and His wonderful works of Heeth done.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: Galatians 6 and these words, which I command thee this day shall be in thy heart for seven, and thou shall teach them diligently.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: under that children, and shall talk of them when they'll sit in that house and when they'll walk is by the way, and when they'll lie us down and when they'll rise us up.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm 145-4, here's an apropos, an appropriate verse.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: Joel 1-3, once more back up, tell your children of it and let your children tell their children and their children another generation.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: Joshua 46 and seven, that this may be a sign unto you, among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come saying, what mean ye by these stones?
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Then you shall answer them, that the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and then it continues on telling that story.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the warning, though.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Judges 2-10, and also that generation we gathered unto their fathers, and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Nor yet, the works which he had done for Israel.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: A generation rose up that didn't know God because no one had taken the time to tell them what the Lord had done.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, tell the stories.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: Tell them again, again, I think back to the pastor worked for an act of no higher pastor,
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love hearing him tell the story of how God saved his dad.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: His dad was a crotchety marine.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Wanted nothing to do with the God of a Bible.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Joe, Gromaldi, my pastor, he and his sister and their family, the church prayed and his father got saved.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: I can't tell you how much I love that story.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: But friend, do you get tired of hearing the old men?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: I say that respectfully, but the old men tell their stories.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you treasure them, and I get tired of them.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: Tomorrow on the broadcast, we're going to conclude this thought.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to really actually get into the thought of where is the Lord God of Elijah.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to look at St. King's chapter number two.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: We actually didn't have a look directly at the scripture for the last couple days.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: We just given some thoughts from the overall context of Elijah's life.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: But I'd ask you, would you please tune in to Mark?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: This is all but introduction, a really long introduction, four days of introduction, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: Tomorrow is the body of the message.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we're gonna squeeze all in, concentrated goodness.
