- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Homewark review podcast. I'm
- 0:25Speaker 2: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I'm Wendy. I'm a former Homemark hater.
- 0:30Speaker 2: On today's episode, we are discussing The Secret Ingredient, which
- 0:33Speaker 2: originally premiered in twenty twenty. It's part of our Vintage
- 0:36Speaker 2: Valentine lineup, and I'm tempted to ask, do we need
- 0:40Speaker 2: to remove the former from your title after this movie?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Are you suggesting that I didn't like this for me?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Well, I'm suggesting by your reaction that I'm wondering how
- 0:49Speaker 2: you felt about this movie.
- 0:51Speaker 1: It's okay. This is what's crazy to me is that
- 0:54Speaker 1: this all I can think about. This movie premiered on
- 0:56Speaker 1: February fifteen, twenty twenty. I was like the world was
- 0:59Speaker 1: getting to shut down, Like that's all I can think
- 1:03Speaker 1: about when I was watching this movie. Yeah, amongst some
- 1:06Speaker 1: other things. But we're not former. I just don't some
- 1:10Speaker 1: of these.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Movies don't hold up interesting. This movie did originally premiere
- 1:16Speaker 2: in twenty twenty on the Hallmark Channel. It's currently available
- 1:18Speaker 2: to stream on Hallmark Plus. If you'd like to give
- 1:21Speaker 2: it a watch, and we do have some fun exciting
- 1:24Speaker 2: announcements coming out about the Girls Gone Hallmark schedule. The
- 1:27Speaker 2: best place to keep up with us is on Instagram,
- 1:29Speaker 2: where we are Girls Gone Hamemark. Of course, we're reviewing
- 1:32Speaker 2: the new Hallmark releases, including Hope Valley eighteen seventy four.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I hope that's what it's called.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I just made that number up, as well as another
- 1:43Speaker 2: non Hallmark, but we think Hallmark adjacent series that we
- 1:46Speaker 2: hope you guys are going to get excited about. So
- 1:49Speaker 2: follow us on Instagram for all the details.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I have a question for you. Yep, you know I've
- 1:55Speaker 1: been sick. I have no memory of the Vintage Valentine
- 2:00Speaker 1: movie we were supposed to review last week that we
- 2:03Speaker 1: did not do. Do Do you remember what it was?
- 2:05Speaker 2: No, A Valentine's Match, wasn't it. I think that might
- 2:10Speaker 2: be hold on, I think that might have Luke McFarlane.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I did watch it, yeah, and Beth and Joylens. I
- 2:19Speaker 1: did watch it also. I was twenty twenty. By the way,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I don't remember. I can't remember one detail about it
- 2:27Speaker 1: actually right now, but I did watch it. A fired
- 2:30Speaker 1: reality host who returns home for Valentine's Day and reconnects
- 2:33Speaker 1: with her ex fiance. Any of that ringing a bell?
- 2:37Speaker 1: Not really? I swear I watched it, though I.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Didn't watch it because we had already decided not to
- 2:43Speaker 2: record that week, and I was like, cool, not even
- 2:46Speaker 2: gonna put yeah, taking it off the to do list.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I was excited about that one though, because I like
- 2:52Speaker 2: the cat thing.
- 2:54Speaker 1: We'll never know, I can't. Yeah, never, We'll never know.
- 2:58Speaker 1: All we know now is secret Ingredient. Are you ready
- 3:02Speaker 1: for synopsis? Sure? Did we do any of our up top?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:06Speaker 1: We did, Okay. Small town baker Kelly gets a big
- 3:11Speaker 1: surprise when she is invited to compete on a Valentine's
- 3:15Speaker 1: Day baking show in New York City, and an even
- 3:18Speaker 1: bigger surprise when she runs into her ex fiance New
- 3:23Speaker 1: York City. Yeah, no question, it is not. Is it really?
- 3:32Speaker 1: Pace Foreconte? I think children of the eighties and nineties unite.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Indeed, The Secret Ingredient was written by Tabora Tacox. He
- 3:43Speaker 2: has currently has He currently has forty nine directing credits
- 3:47Speaker 2: with previous projects like Rocky Mountain, Christmas from twenty seventeen
- 3:51Speaker 2: and the nineteen ninety six movie Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Now is Rocky Mountain Christmas the Chris Paulaha Jimmy Stewart movie. Wow,
- 4:00Speaker 2: wouldn't that be wild?
- 4:02Speaker 1: I think it is.
- 4:05Speaker 2: You know, you have to be a girl gone Hallmark completionist.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It is, well, hold on, it is the Chris Polaha movie.
- 4:14Speaker 2: But let's make sure this is directed by McLean Nelson. No, no,
- 4:18Speaker 2: it's oh.
- 4:20Speaker 1: No, lot he it can't, yeah, because he said.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It was directed by McLean Nelson. Hold on, let me
- 4:27Speaker 2: look and see what McLean Nelson directed. Like I said,
- 4:30Speaker 2: you really need to be a girl gone Hallmark completionist
- 4:32Speaker 2: in order to fully understand all the references we make.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Small town Christmas, small.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Rocky Mountains, small town you know whatever.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Directed by McLean Nelson, starring Ashley Newbrown.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Actually new Brown, interesting pairing. I think Rocky Mountain Christmas
- 4:53Speaker 1: is Lindy Booth another another Polaha Christmas movie. I haven't
- 4:58Speaker 1: seen h anyway, Okay. Stephen Sessions and Nancy nagel Man
- 5:06Speaker 1: the SS in the n n are Real Tongue Twister
- 5:10Speaker 1: This Morning. They share writing credit. Now Stephen has twenty
- 5:14Speaker 1: nine writing credits. His previous work Inclues A Season for
- 5:17Speaker 1: Family and North to Home. Nancy authored the novel by
- 5:22Speaker 1: the same name. Aaron K.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Hill stars as Kelly McIntyre. Aaron has one hundred and
- 5:27Speaker 2: thirty eight acting credits and we last saw her in
- 5:30Speaker 2: Christmas at the Catnip Cafe.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Brendan Penny co stars as Andrew Yorke. Brendan has sixty
- 5:37Speaker 1: four acting credits, with three appearances on Hallmark late last
- 5:39Speaker 1: year including Providence Falls, Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper, and.
- 5:43Speaker 2: The More the Merrier Menite Jehan appears as herself. Manite
- 5:47Speaker 2: is an Indian American chef and television personality. She's appeared
- 5:50Speaker 2: on Chopped, The Next Iron Chef, and Guy's Grocery Games.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Gwynneth Walsh plays Kelly's mom, Missus McIntyre. She's probably best
- 5:59Speaker 1: known for her long stand role as Joe Ellen on
- 6:01Speaker 1: the series Virgin River.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Tom Aniico plays Kelly's dad, Mister McIntyre. Tom has forty
- 6:06Speaker 2: two acting credits and has appeared in on the twelfth
- 6:09Speaker 2: Date of Christmas.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Amy Greening plays Sarah. Amy has thirty nine acting crants
- 6:14Speaker 1: and we last saw her in Because of Cupid, opposite
- 6:16Speaker 1: Evan Rodrick.
- 6:18Speaker 2: As mentioned this movie, premiered on February fifteenth, twenty twenty.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Don't do du Let's take a quick break and we'll
- 6:26Speaker 2: come right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy, what
- 6:38Speaker 2: was your first impression of the secret ingredient?
- 6:42Speaker 1: This felt like a grocery store cupcake. Totally fine, just
- 6:46Speaker 1: not rememberable. Hey, like you know, I love a grocery
- 6:53Speaker 1: store cupcake and cake.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Look, honestly, I love a grocery store cake too.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I think that's that's a good analogy.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Thank you, Look, I have My first impression is one
- 7:05Speaker 2: of three options.
- 7:06Speaker 1: One is New York.
- 7:08Speaker 2: City, two is Amy Greening, what are you doing here?
- 7:14Speaker 1: And three years?
- 7:14Speaker 2: I have to know Wendy is Meniet Chahan a familiar
- 7:17Speaker 2: face to you, lover of all things cooking competition shows.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Well, that's funny you bring that up because it is
- 7:26Speaker 1: going to come up in my notes. Cool. Yeah, let's
- 7:31Speaker 1: talk likes. I thought the competition actually felt legit in
- 7:34Speaker 1: this movie. M I do watch a lot of right now.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Since I've been sick, I've been watching Next Level Chef,
- 7:42Speaker 1: which I really enjoy quite a bit. But I love
- 7:45Speaker 1: me a cooking competition show. I don't love a baking
- 7:49Speaker 1: competition show just because it's like, I don't like to bake,
- 7:54Speaker 1: so like I don't even like to cook. So I
- 7:56Speaker 1: don't know why. I don't know why I watch either
- 7:58Speaker 1: of these shows. But anyway, I thought it was really
- 8:04Speaker 1: realistic how they did the baking show sequences. I mean,
- 8:08Speaker 1: not really like the whole mystery part of it, yeah,
- 8:14Speaker 1: but like time challenges and the frantic like plating and
- 8:20Speaker 1: the judge's table, like it was giving Food Network energy. Definitely,
- 8:24Speaker 1: I thought and I enjoyed that it was a little
- 8:30Speaker 1: more stressful than like your average Hallmark bake off, which
- 8:37Speaker 1: we've seen time and time and time and time and
- 8:39Speaker 1: time again. We are going to talk.
- 8:41Speaker 2: About the anxiety I had while watching this movie, but
- 8:45Speaker 2: I agree with you. I liked the cooking show set
- 8:47Speaker 2: up as well. Also, I really liked our leads here.
- 8:52Speaker 2: This is just another reason on the long list of
- 8:54Speaker 2: reasons why I am co president of the Aaron K.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Hill Fan Club. She's so damn cute.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I just find her so fun to watch. I don't
- 9:02Speaker 2: know why she wasn't on my radar until the past
- 9:05Speaker 2: I don't know, a year and a half or so.
- 9:07Speaker 2: They really enjoy her and Brendan Penny is honestly equally
- 9:11Speaker 2: adorable in this movie. I don't think this movie is
- 9:14Speaker 2: doing anything particularly remarkable. Like you said, it is the
- 9:18Speaker 2: grocery store cupcake of Hallmark movies. I do think it's
- 9:21Speaker 2: infinitely watchable, and I do think it's also one I'd
- 9:23Speaker 2: be happy to have on if I just came across
- 9:27Speaker 2: it in the listings. It wouldn't be one that I
- 9:28Speaker 2: would gough, which happens sometimes.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, I agree. I loved Aaron Khill and
- 9:35Speaker 1: Brendan Penny like they have very pleasant vibes. And I
- 9:39Speaker 1: feel like Aaron Cahill has like a big range, like
- 9:42Speaker 1: she can play like real cute, like adorable, and then
- 9:46Speaker 1: she can also be like I loved her as the
- 9:49Speaker 1: Cop and Holidays Like, yes, I like her range a lot.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I could definitely see her like as Emily Lane, you know, yeah,
- 9:58Speaker 1: which she could be in that. Like has Aaron Khele
- 10:02Speaker 1: been a lead in like a mystery uh franchise? I
- 10:08Speaker 1: feel like she could. I feel like she could. She
- 10:12Speaker 1: totally could. Wasn't she Palaha's X in uh oh yeah
- 10:18Speaker 1: yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah? But she was one.
- 10:22Speaker 1: She has not led.
- 10:25Speaker 2: A mystery franchise. I think she should needs to be
- 10:28Speaker 2: next on her list. I mean I think she could.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Girlfriend has one hundred and thirty eight acting credits.
- 10:33Speaker 1: By the way, tons yeah, tons, tons, tons. Anyway, I
- 10:38Speaker 1: love them. I love that even though they were exes,
- 10:41Speaker 1: they didn't like they weren't combusting with tension, you know,
- 10:45Speaker 1: like they didn't hate each other. They just were like
- 10:47Speaker 1: comfortable and warm. Which on the flip side too, I
- 10:51Speaker 1: was like, will you guys have all this history and
- 10:53Speaker 1: there's just like you're so pleasant with each other felt
- 10:55Speaker 1: a little bit weird, like I feel like you would
- 10:57Speaker 1: have some baggage you would bring into things things, and
- 11:01Speaker 1: they totally didn't.
- 11:02Speaker 2: But no, when the sister kind of traps her at
- 11:05Speaker 2: the party and he sees her across the room, I
- 11:08Speaker 2: expected that that exchange to be so weighted, and it
- 11:12Speaker 2: really wasn't.
- 11:13Speaker 1: They were just like, Hi, nice to see you.
- 11:15Speaker 2: How you been, you know, a little awkward, but not
- 11:17Speaker 2: uncomfortable in the sense of they were shooting daggers at
- 11:20Speaker 2: each other.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I thought that bakery set design. I don't
- 11:26Speaker 1: even know if you noticed it, but it was working
- 11:29Speaker 1: overtime here. Everything was just like sticky sweet pink pop bakery. Hmm.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Remember remember when bakery's like made of a real big splash.
- 11:42Speaker 2: In the world, like when there was a cupcakeshop on
- 11:45Speaker 2: every corner.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, and like, for some reason to me, like
- 11:51Speaker 1: I don't enjoy a bakery like I like a Susie
- 11:55Speaker 1: Cakes where it's like home style kind of bakery, do
- 11:58Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Sure, I don't like dicky
- 12:02Speaker 1: like Cinderella cakes kind of do you know what I'm
- 12:06Speaker 1: talking about?
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yeah, a little too frilly, a little too princessy.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Yes, that's like what I cannot stand. And I feel
- 12:14Speaker 1: like this bakery kind of gave those vibes to me. Eve.
- 12:20Speaker 1: You know, we're still in the like section. I know.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I was just thinking that, I'm like, this should definitely
- 12:25Speaker 1: be in my wishes. So I'm just gonna actually, I'm
- 12:29Speaker 1: just gonna go with it. Okay. The place is called
- 12:32Speaker 1: the Cake Factory, and they have forty seven non cake
- 12:35Speaker 1: items there. Like they only make one cake, the famous
- 12:40Speaker 1: almond honeycake or whatever it is. They only make one cake. No,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I don't know, but it's the one cake that they
- 12:46Speaker 1: talk about all the time. But there's like macaroons, and
- 12:49Speaker 1: croissants and bread and like maybe a lasagna. There was
- 12:53Speaker 1: like so many things in this freaking bakery. They're like,
- 12:57Speaker 1: we're gonna rift on cheesecake factory. Oh, I didn't think
- 13:01Speaker 1: about that, but you're right. The cake factory makes it
- 13:05Speaker 1: sound like you're making cakes. Yeah. Anyway, just a pet
- 13:10Speaker 1: peeve of mine, that's all. Well.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Sweet Factory was already taken by the mall candy shop
- 13:14Speaker 2: in the nineties.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Sweet Factory. What was sweet Factory? I don't remember that.
- 13:19Speaker 2: It was a candy shop with bins that you would
- 13:21Speaker 2: scoop into bags.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Oh, I don't remember.
- 13:25Speaker 2: You're not really a super big candy person the way
- 13:28Speaker 2: I am.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Not like you. But I mean I like a lemonhead.
- 13:33Speaker 1: That's you knows about it so poring and it's they're
- 13:40Speaker 1: so delicious. What are you talking about, like a hard candy? Oh,
- 13:45Speaker 1: you're just like miss Gummy. Like your gut is full
- 13:49Speaker 1: of gummies. I like a gummy, I like a chocolate.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I like it. Don't gummies give your stomach? Yeah I can't.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't eat too many gummies these days. I
- 14:00Speaker 2: actually made like I had a ton of gummies from
- 14:03Speaker 2: Christmas because people know me and they made like a
- 14:06Speaker 2: little candy salad and I have like hardly touched its.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I'm like, ugh, I can only eat a couple of
- 14:09Speaker 2: these before my tummy revolts.
- 14:11Speaker 1: So yeah, I like chocolate. I got some seased candy
- 14:15Speaker 1: for Valentine's Day.
- 14:17Speaker 2: My favorite Easter candies are back. I've already blown through
- 14:20Speaker 2: a bag of them.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Those hard.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I know they don't like them, but they bring me
- 14:26Speaker 2: a lot of joy this one month of the year.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Do they have chocolate inside of them? Yes? Tell me
- 14:33Speaker 1: what are they? Candberry Hershey? Yeah, those are not.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I love the hard, crunchy shell. I love them so much. Anyway,
- 14:41Speaker 2: moving on, It's like an emin M. I like an
- 14:44Speaker 2: M and M too, but it's a harder shell than
- 14:47Speaker 2: an eminem. A peanut butter eminem is a delicious candy.
- 14:52Speaker 2: And don't tell me you don't like that. I love those. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 14:57Speaker 2: but a regular eminem is super boring. Plane Yeah, I
- 15:01Speaker 2: don't mind a plane eminem. I mean I don't like. Oh,
- 15:04Speaker 2: I don't reach for it, but if it's in front
- 15:05Speaker 2: of me, I have to tell you. I have, as mentioned,
- 15:09Speaker 2: reclaimed my son's room as my secondary space.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Your cave.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and we put a TV in there. I'm like,
- 15:16Speaker 2: it's for you, it's for mommy, let's be serious. And
- 15:20Speaker 2: he has a this is probably gross for a high
- 15:23Speaker 2: school graduation. He got like an eminem al it's like
- 15:26Speaker 2: a gumball machine, but it's Eminem's. And my mom put
- 15:29Speaker 2: like the she got like his school color Eminem's and
- 15:32Speaker 2: it says like twenty twenty five grad it's seven months later. Anyways,
- 15:35Speaker 2: it's still in his room and he never touched them.
- 15:37Speaker 2: And so those are my little treat when I'm in there.
- 15:40Speaker 1: You gotta eat them. They're gonna go bad, and.
- 15:42Speaker 2: They're probably already bad, but they still tastes good. Anyway,
- 15:46Speaker 2: let's keep talking what we liked about this movie.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'm tapped out on my like. I got a few
- 15:50Speaker 1: little ones. These are just little baby likes.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I liked the element how they flipped the kitchen slidne
- 15:54Speaker 2: to close when they're eliminated. I thought that was a
- 15:56Speaker 2: cute little touch. Okay, Francoise French accent cracked me up.
- 16:02Speaker 1: It's like I saw on Reddit people were like, don't
- 16:05Speaker 1: love that. Like, I guess it wasn't Reddit, it was IMDb.
- 16:09Speaker 1: It was like, oh the accent was so terrible.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought it was funny. It was kind of
- 16:13Speaker 2: like almost like a little bit Boston sometimes and then
- 16:15Speaker 2: they would like, let me, we're back into French. Not
- 16:18Speaker 2: that I know what a brinch accent should sound like.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I know, but like if you can't nail it like
- 16:23Speaker 1: then it should be funny. And I agree it was
- 16:25Speaker 1: like funny.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I thought it was funny. I also thought there's a
- 16:28Speaker 2: hot dog eating contest line and they're like, how far
- 16:30Speaker 2: did you get? And he's like two and a half.
- 16:33Speaker 1: So funny. I thought it was funny. Let's talk wishes.
- 16:38Speaker 1: The secret wasn't secret enough. You're telling me that these
- 16:42Speaker 1: two are just randomly in New York together and they
- 16:46Speaker 1: don't know that they're competing against each other on like
- 16:49Speaker 1: a there's no crossover, like they have to be the
- 16:52Speaker 1: call times at the same time. Nothing, there's no no
- 16:56Speaker 1: whiff of a suspicion.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Yes, she's lying to Hims, but she doesn't ever assume
- 17:02Speaker 2: that he, a famous pastry chef, could be lying to
- 17:05Speaker 2: her about these reasons he's there also, he is a
- 17:09Speaker 2: famous pastry chef. She owns a small town bakery, and
- 17:11Speaker 2: this show just happened to choose her just yea happened. Look,
- 17:16Speaker 2: the setup of the Cooking Show gave me anxiety because,
- 17:20Speaker 2: like you mentioned, they acted like it's super secretive, but
- 17:23Speaker 2: then they'd be on set talking in normal voices. Those
- 17:27Speaker 2: walls between the kitchens don't go all.
- 17:28Speaker 1: The way up. Yeah?
- 17:30Speaker 2: Did they remove all the contestants as the judges are speaking,
- 17:33Speaker 2: because it seems like Kelly and Andrew would have recognized
- 17:35Speaker 2: each other's voices. There's times when Kelly is talking to
- 17:38Speaker 2: her handler. I did totally know. How did they never
- 17:41Speaker 2: spill the secret?
- 17:43Speaker 1: I know it's dumb.
- 17:44Speaker 2: And finally, I think I needed a little more drama
- 17:47Speaker 2: in the Cooking Show because the fact that they both
- 17:48Speaker 2: end up in the final two, like, it seems a
- 17:51Speaker 2: little too easy.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Too easy. I agree with you, but Kelly needed some
- 17:56Speaker 1: steaks though, because Andrew needed to win, Like he was like,
- 17:59Speaker 1: I got to change my life. And Kelly has this
- 18:03Speaker 1: thriving bakery. She was like, I can't even keep up
- 18:06Speaker 1: with my online orders. Who the hell is ordering bakery
- 18:09Speaker 1: goods online? No one? Oh and having them shipped? Who
- 18:15Speaker 1: does that? I think people do Susie caake ships? Do they?
- 18:23Speaker 1: I have shipped a Susie cake to someone like not
- 18:28Speaker 1: in California.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I know they were Acornia, but it was not a
- 18:33Speaker 2: door dash like it was chipped weird.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Is weird to me? I don't know, Maybe I'm crazy.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Please email us at Hello at Girls Gone Hallmark. What
- 18:44Speaker 1: is it hello at Girls Gone Hallmark dot com? Like,
- 18:47Speaker 1: if you're ordering regularly bakery goods, I would rather have
- 18:51Speaker 1: fresh bakery good like I don't really want one delivered,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but I I think there's something to be said for
- 18:57Speaker 1: us living in a major metropolis where we have access
- 18:59Speaker 1: to all kinds of fresh bakeries and perhaps fair that
- 19:03Speaker 1: is not the case for fair, you know, certain parts
- 19:05Speaker 1: of Middle America. Fair. Anyway, My point is like her
- 19:08Speaker 1: business is doing well. She yeah, yeah, yeah, but she
- 19:12Speaker 1: needed to save her parents' business, which she ends up
- 19:16Speaker 1: not doing anyway, I know. Which let me lead to
- 19:20Speaker 1: my next wish. Why did Andrew buy the diner? Because
- 19:23Speaker 1: Andrew is a famous pastry chef? What does this bozoe
- 19:27Speaker 1: know about cooking fried chicken or whatever.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I don't think he I again, I think he just
- 19:34Speaker 2: wanted to be a chef and like fell into the
- 19:36Speaker 2: pastry chef. I don't think he went like he went
- 19:39Speaker 2: to culinary school but not pastry school. Am I wrong
- 19:42Speaker 2: about this?
- 19:43Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I thought that he wanted to be a chef, not
- 19:46Speaker 2: like just the pastry guy, and so which part of
- 19:49Speaker 2: me I was like, I think those are two very
- 19:51Speaker 2: different things skill set, Yes, yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I don't know. And I also felt like if.
- 20:00Speaker 2: The idea that your child needs to take over your business,
- 20:05Speaker 2: like if mom and dad are going to sell, let
- 20:07Speaker 2: mom and dad sell. You have your own thriving business.
- 20:09Speaker 2: It's not your responsibility to come take this over from
- 20:11Speaker 2: them because they're done exactly.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Like, can we just have this conversation. I really wish
- 20:18Speaker 1: you would take it over. I got a job, mom, Yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I'm running my own successful business, Like it's okay that
- 20:25Speaker 1: you guys retire and shut down your diner.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I just like I'm carrying a lot of my own baggage.
- 20:31Speaker 2: This not that my parents want me to take over
- 20:32Speaker 2: a business at all. I just feel like there's like
- 20:35Speaker 2: pressure to do things that your parents didn't necessarily do
- 20:39Speaker 2: the way they wanted to. And then or I don't know,
- 20:44Speaker 2: it's like you lived your life, now I'm gonna live mine.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. My final wish is the Almond Cake Showdown.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I knew from early on that these two were gonna
- 20:59Speaker 1: end up making same week, and of course she was
- 21:01Speaker 1: going to be like, that's my recipe where he early
- 21:05Speaker 1: on when he comes into like her bakery and they
- 21:08Speaker 1: make those cranberry muffins. Again, why are you making muffins
- 21:11Speaker 1: at the cake factory? But another thing I saw, they
- 21:16Speaker 1: were like chopping like fresh cranberries. Do fresh cranberries go
- 21:22Speaker 1: into a cranberry muffin? I thought it would be like
- 21:25Speaker 1: the crazins, you know, but I think a fresh cranberry,
- 21:28Speaker 1: like a fresh blueberry, goes into a blueberry muffins? Okay, fair? Anyway,
- 21:32Speaker 1: he said, He mentions, oh, I remember spending so much
- 21:35Speaker 1: time in here developing that recipe, so like I knew
- 21:40Speaker 1: she was going to get all twisted about like you
- 21:42Speaker 1: did my recipe. Yeah.
- 21:45Speaker 2: And I actually when when we discover that she's there
- 21:48Speaker 2: and she's lying to everybody, I actually assumed he was
- 21:51Speaker 2: going to be there, and then they pan over the
- 21:53Speaker 2: other contestants. I was like, oh, I guess he's not.
- 21:54Speaker 2: And then there's like the later reveal that of course
- 21:57Speaker 2: he's there as well, and I was like, okay, okay, yeah,
- 22:02Speaker 2: let's talk.
- 22:03Speaker 1: To you to see that. Okay, Well, you had asked
- 22:06Speaker 1: me if I knew who many Shohan? How do you
- 22:10Speaker 1: say her last name? Minit? What? Yeah, Shohan, I don't know.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Oh you asked if I knew who she was? No,
- 22:16Speaker 1: I have no idea who this person is. I was like,
- 22:18Speaker 1: who is this mysterious third person on the movie poster?
- 22:21Speaker 1: I don't know who she is? Are we supposed to
- 22:23Speaker 1: know who she is? Like? Is she big enough? I
- 22:27Speaker 1: mean new star? Yeah? I have no idea who this
- 22:30Speaker 1: person is. So I just I maybe it's like me
- 22:36Speaker 1: like it's it wasn't like it was Gordon Ramsey, you
- 22:39Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like, uh, if you're I don't, I.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Mean you have Katie Lee Joel, Like do people out
- 22:47Speaker 2: is that like a name that everybody knows? Like she's
- 22:49Speaker 2: a food person right when you see her in these
- 22:51Speaker 2: Hallmark food movies.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't. I don't know. Okay, but I don't know.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I don't know. The only other did you see that
- 22:58Speaker 1: which made me laugh out loud is Brendan Penny like
- 23:01Speaker 1: tosses salt over his shoulder when he was like baking,
- 23:04Speaker 1: And I was like, you know, like it just was funny,
- 23:07Speaker 1: like he probably thought, like, I'm going to look like
- 23:09Speaker 1: a real like chef here, throw this over my shoulder.
- 23:13Speaker 1: You know, do you ever do that? Do you ever
- 23:15Speaker 1: throw salt over your shoulder once in a while, because
- 23:18Speaker 1: you know who used to do it? Who? Rachel Ray?
- 23:24Speaker 2: I in my early twenties was the biggest Rachel Ray fan.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I miss Rachel Ray to be honest, me too.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I love it and the television for ment meals forty.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Dollars a day. I took out my I have a
- 23:40Speaker 1: Rachel Ray garbage bowl, like because the best thing she
- 23:44Speaker 1: ever did for humanity.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Uh huh, I swear to God like it works. I
- 23:49Speaker 2: know I don't have her official garbage bul but I do.
- 23:51Speaker 2: If I'm doing like a big baking day or like
- 23:54Speaker 2: Thanksgiving prep, I always get out a big giant mixing bowl.
- 23:57Speaker 1: And use it as a garbage bull.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Yeah it's great, and that's that's the best idea she
- 24:01Speaker 2: ever had her GB.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I just came across her TikTok recently and she was
- 24:08Speaker 1: like cooking on her TikTok. But it was not like
- 24:10Speaker 1: give me a thirty minute meal like I needed something
- 24:13Speaker 1: like a little sammy situation. Not like a supole. Yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 1: it was like a full meal. I was like, no,
- 24:21Speaker 1: but she's still married to John. She like, yes, they
- 24:24Speaker 1: have dogs. Yes.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I used to watch her talk show too. That makes
- 24:28Speaker 2: me happy for her. I always wish she wouldn't tuck
- 24:33Speaker 2: in every shirt though.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I gotta admit, what that's so random.
- 24:37Speaker 2: You gotta go back and look like, I'm like, that
- 24:39Speaker 2: shirt needs to be untucked. Anyway, a little French talk
- 24:42Speaker 2: would have done her good. Mind, you just see that's
- 24:46Speaker 2: uh well, they bank this big deal. They're like, we're
- 24:52Speaker 2: only going to use numbers. And then at one point
- 24:54Speaker 2: they're like, Kelly's coming. I'm like, come on on the
- 24:57Speaker 2: walkie talkies. Yeah, I feel like someone might hear. But
- 24:59Speaker 2: I was like, okay, continuity people. The other two I
- 25:02Speaker 2: just pulled from IMDb. One of the contestants name is Diane.
- 25:06Speaker 2: It's spelled d I a any on her chef jacket,
- 25:08Speaker 2: but d I a n any on her nameplate on
- 25:11Speaker 2: her cooking station.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Oh I love that.
- 25:14Speaker 2: And then there's a little jacket blooper. Andrew goes to
- 25:17Speaker 2: Kelly's dressing room after her win and he's wearing a
- 25:20Speaker 2: brown overcoat.
- 25:22Speaker 1: And then.
- 25:25Speaker 2: When she leaves her jacket behind and they ask him
- 25:28Speaker 2: to take it to her. And when he arrives at
- 25:29Speaker 2: the hotel, he's wearing a gray overcoat like he changed
- 25:32Speaker 2: in the cab. Doesn't make a lot of sense, that's all.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Wow. Wow, those are good ones. Wow.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yep, what did you rate this movie? I gave it
- 25:41Speaker 2: three stars? Whoa ouch? Interesting? You like the Stars between
- 25:49Speaker 2: Us more than this movie?
- 25:51Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, I did a lot.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I gave it three point seventy five stars.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I just like, I don't know, like I like these
- 26:01Speaker 1: old Hallmark movies just don't do it for me. They're lazy. Ouch.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I didn't think this was lazy. I mean, I thought
- 26:09Speaker 2: it was real trophy. But I thought the cooking show
- 26:11Speaker 2: says fresh enough.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I mean it's fresh for six years ago. Yeah, I'm
- 26:19Speaker 1: gonna keep you pumpkin Pie Wars over this, glad. I
- 26:21Speaker 1: hated that movie. I didn't hate it. I didn't love it.
- 26:27Speaker 2: It's too contentious. Thank you for listening to this episode
