  much. Elon Musk and SpaceX have been

  building Starship down at Starbase for the last few years.

  This is the 4th flight coming up and it's possibly going to be
• 0:56
  happening in the next few weeks. There are some things that Elon,
• 1:00
  SpaceX has to do in order to make this flight successful.
• 1:03
  Flight 1-2 and three were pretty successful in the whole grand
• 1:07
  scheme of things. They have to do basically the
• 1:09
  same thing as flight 3, clear the pad hot staging.
• 1:12
  They have to do a boost back burn for the booster and they
• 1:16
  have to possibly soft land the booster in the Gulf of Mexico.

  Now, Elon Musk just recently said that if Flight 4 goes well,
• 1:25
  Flight 5, they're going to try to land the Starships booster
• 1:29
  back at the Starbase launch facility.
• 1:31
  You have to be kind of skeptical about what Elon says.
• 1:35
  SpaceX is amazing, but you have to understand that some of the
• 1:39
  expectations that Elon sets are way high compared to the
• 1:44
  actuality of the situation. So if they do land soft land the
• 1:49
  booster in the Gulf of Mexico, there's a possibility that
• 1:53
  Flight 5 could see them landing it on land at the launch
• 1:59
  facility at the tower. Think about that for a second.
• 2:03
  What could happen if this goes wrong?
• 2:06
  Boost back, burn, lip maneuver, everything goes great for the
• 2:11
  booster. The ship is still flying through
• 2:14
  to orbit and doing its thing, which is a whole other
• 2:17
  conversation. But if the booster does make it
• 2:21
  back to a soft landing in the Gulf of Mexico, they're doing
• 2:25
  basically a virtual landing with the booster and the catch arms
• 2:30
  and the tower. So basically you have a landing
• 2:33
  spot in the Gulf of Mexico that they've partitioned off, so to
• 2:37
  say. That will be a tower and they'll
• 2:40
  go through the maneuvers of the booster hovering in the catch
• 2:44
  arms not physically closing. There's no catch arms out there
• 2:47
  on the Gulf, but they will stay there for a certain amount of
• 2:49
  time. They'll hover down, slow hover
• 2:50
  down to the catch arms, and when the arms catch it, slowly
• 2:55
  release the engines engine shut off.
• 2:59
  And then from there the booster will fall into the Gulf of
• 3:02
  Mexico. And that would be fantastic.
• 3:04
  If they could do that, Flight 4, that would be fantastic.
• 3:08
  But think about it like this. What happens if Flight 4 was an
• 3:12
  anomaly? What happens if Flight 4 was
• 3:15
  just, like, good luck? Like, of course engineering is
• 3:18
  great. I love engineering, and I love
• 3:20
  the engineers of SpaceX. I know a few of them and they're
• 3:22
  great people. But what if this was one of
• 3:25
  those things that they just got everything right this time and
• 3:29
  maybe next time? It's not so perfect.
• 3:32
  That's happened before with SpaceX.
• 3:34
  They've done this before. They've had numerous boosters
• 3:38
  land for Falcon Nine in a row and everything looked great.
• 3:42
  All of a sudden a booster lands tips over, blows up, and same
• 3:46
  thing could happen with Starship's booster.
• 3:48
  Now mind you, the fuel that would have been spent on the
• 3:52
  boost back, burn and flying back and hovering would basically
• 3:56
  deplete most if not all of the fuel in the booster.
• 4:00
  So the booster itself not really explosive, not as much as say, a
• 4:05
  Falcon Nine. You also use different kind of
• 4:07
  fuels. The fuel in the booster for
• 4:09
  Starship is not as explosive or combustible as the Falcon 9.
• 4:15
  So starship's booster probably not going to explode if it does
• 4:19
  land on the catch arms and something happens to it.
• 4:23
  But mind you, The thing is made out of basically a tube of
• 4:28
  shrapnel. It's a 250 foot tall stainless
• 4:33
  steel tube full of electronics, full of motors, wiring, things
• 4:39
  like that. And you gotta think what would
• 4:41
  happen if they did get it over land, if they got it over the
• 4:45
  tower and something were to happen to it.
• 4:47
  Shrapnel everywhere. And I'm, I don't like to say
• 4:50
  things like that. I don't want that to happen.
• 4:53
  What I want to happen is this thing to be completely
• 4:56
  successful on flight 4 and then on flight 5 I want them to land
• 5:00
  it perfectly at the catch arms at the tower.
• 5:03
  Everything is great, but there is a possibility, a small
• 5:07
  possibility. The four is anomaly and five
• 5:09
  works. Elon is happy with flight 4 and
• 5:12
  it landing in the Gulf and to go on to flight 5 and to land at
• 5:16
  the tower. I'm totally fine with that, but
• 5:19
  I don't see it happening for flight 5.
• 5:21
  Elon said if this happens in Flight 4 too, By the way.
• 5:24
  He said that in the latest Star Starship talk.
• 5:26

  I wouldn't have a conversation about this because I don't

  nobody really knows what's gonna happen for Flight 4 because

  nobody really we know like the flight pattern.

  It's gotta be similar to flight 3.

  As far as we know. The only thing a few things that
• 5:45
  are gonna be different but one of the major things is Elon
• 5:48
  wants to make sure that the Starship is that basically burn
• 5:53
  up temperature and land it in the Indian Ocean, possibly self
• 5:59
  detonated over the Indian Ocean. They do have a bunch of flights
• 6:03
  planned out and they do have combustion warnings over the
• 6:06
  Indian Ocean. So is the possibility that they
• 6:09
  do land the Starship and that's the big one, that's the big one.
• 6:12
  They want to do the booster and landing in the Gulf of Mexico
• 6:16
  also a big deal about this. So those two things are the huge
• 6:20
  deals for the next Starship flight.
• 6:22
  So if they can get Starship through the atmosphere so it
• 6:27
  doesn't burn up, they have to get it to an extreme
• 6:31
  temperature, the most extreme temperature of the Starship has
• 6:34
  ever faced. And if they do that, this
• 6:38
  mission will be a success. If they don't do the boost back
• 6:41
  burn and the booster landing at the tower or at the imaginary
• 6:46
  tower in the Gulf of Mexico, I think that's gonna be OK.
• 6:50
  But Elon says, of course they want to do that.
• 6:53
  They want to make sure that it all works out.
• 6:54
  We'll see. I don't know.
• 6:55

  I don't think they should rush it.

  I think they should do 5 perfect flights of the booster.

  I know they only have up to 9 flights every year for the

  Starship, so I guess they're going to go.

  They got to go for it, right? It seems like they just have to

  take some chances here. Now I want to go back to the
• 7:15
  shrapnel part of it as well. The whole booster is stainless
• 7:19
  steel. The whole thing is super sharp
• 7:22
  if you think about it. If something goes arise,
• 7:25
  something goes haywire and they explode the booster for some
• 7:29
  reason. There's shrapnel everywhere.
• 7:31
  There's pipes, there's tubes, there's wiring, there's
• 7:34
  harnesses, there's vehicles. Whatever's around the Starship
• 7:40
  launch facility could get extremely damaged.
• 7:43
  Think about just imagine a shrapnel piece this large
• 7:47
  ripping through part of a launch tower.
• 7:51
  I know they have cladding on it, I know they have protection on
• 7:54
  it, but some parts are not protected as well as others.
• 7:57
  So there's a possibility, even if it's a slim possibility, then
• 8:01
  some of the ground systems could get damaged if they try this on
• 8:05
  flight 5. That's my real big concern is
• 8:09
  the ground systems at Starbase and how fast would they be able
• 8:13
  to rebuild them. They probably have other parts.
• 8:17
  It seems like they would have other parts there, replacement
• 8:19
  parts, or they can ship them in or build them or whatever.
• 8:22
  But it seems like SpaceX may be taking this risk a little bit
• 8:27
  too lightly. If Flight 4 is perfect again,
• 8:32

  the absolute spectacle of flight 5, to land on the tower, catch

  arms, lower it down, refurbish the booster possibly, and fly it

  I don't think the flying again is going to happen, but if they

  catch it, they lower it down. That would be fantastic.
