- 0:42Speaker 3: of Kicking It With Kiki, Life, Love, and Mindset. The
- 0:45Speaker 3: space where we have real conversations about experiences that shape us,
- 0:49Speaker 3: the love that stretches us, and the mindset that helps
- 0:53Speaker 3: us continue becoming who we are meant to be. I'm
- 0:55Speaker 3: your host, Kiki Chanel, and today I'm talking about something
- 0:59Speaker 3: I believe so many of us can relate to, finding
- 1:03Speaker 3: your voice and having the courage to use it. My
- 1:07Speaker 3: guest today understands the power of words in a very
- 1:10Speaker 3: special way. Nisha B is a Renaissance woman. She's a poet.
- 1:16Speaker 3: a writer, aspiring actress, and the author who believes words
- 1:21Speaker 3: can do more than simply tell a story. So I'll
- 1:24Speaker 3: let her tell a little bit more about herself. So Nisha,
- 1:27Speaker 3: you with me? Yes, I am.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Thank you for having me.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Absolutely. My pleasure. Thank you for coming to kick it
- 1:34Speaker 3: with me. So I said a little bit about who
- 1:36Speaker 3: you are, but I always like to give my guests
- 1:38Speaker 3: the opportunity to tell the listeners who they are a
- 1:41Speaker 3: little bit more in detail. So go ahead and tell
- 1:43Speaker 3: the people who you are, what you do.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yes, I'm Nisha B., footy native, very own, born and
- 1:49Speaker 2: raised in Philly, the West Side. I'm an author, actress, entrepreneur, writer, poet,
- 1:57Speaker 2: mental health advocate, a mentor for the youth. The list
- 2:00Speaker 2: goes on, but I ain't going to give y'all too much.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I've been writing since I was 12 years old, been
- 2:06Speaker 2: acting since I was 18, on and off. That pretty
- 2:10Speaker 2: much sums it up. All right.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Thank you for that. We're talking about finding your voice today.
- 2:15Speaker 3: You said something in your bio that immediately stood out
- 2:19Speaker 3: to me. Sometimes the words we write aren't just meant
- 2:22Speaker 3: to be read. Sometimes they're meant to be heard. I
- 2:26Speaker 3: want to start there. When you wrote that, what was
- 2:29Speaker 3: going through your mind when you said those words?
- 2:32Speaker 2: When I wrote that, a lot has been going through
- 2:34Speaker 2: my mind, especially with a lot of things that have
- 2:37Speaker 2: been going on behind closed doors where a lot of
- 2:40Speaker 2: people say that you should keep your mouth shut with
- 2:43Speaker 2: certain things. after a while, it's like, wow, I got
- 2:46Speaker 2: to keep being silent. This is my voice. This is
- 2:49Speaker 2: how I feel, and I'm going to speak it.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Before you became comfortable calling yourself a poet, a writer,
- 2:55Speaker 3: and author, who was Nisha? And when did you first
- 3:00Speaker 3: realize words were going to be an important part of
- 3:04Speaker 3: your life?
- 3:07Speaker 2: Before all that, Nisha was just a young girl living
- 3:10Speaker 2: her life, going through chronic illness that took mostly her
- 3:16Speaker 2: childhood from her. I can't really do much with the
- 3:20Speaker 2: outside because I was in and out the hospital with
- 3:25Speaker 2: diagnosis of scoliosis where your spine is curved. I got
- 3:31Speaker 2: diagnosed at the age of 12 and I was been
- 3:34Speaker 2: living with a brace on my back for at least
- 3:38Speaker 2: a year and some change. But after a while, The
- 3:42Speaker 2: brace didn't help, so we had to go under the knife.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And going under the knife was very hard because I
- 3:50Speaker 2: was still young, still grown up, and I was scared.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So because, you know, I hear stories like where you
- 3:57Speaker 2: can go under the knife and don't come back.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:01Speaker 2: So my nerves was all over the place. And when
- 4:05Speaker 2: that happened, I was in a whole lot of pain,
- 4:10Speaker 2: being placed with five motorized in my back, had to
- 4:14Speaker 2: go to therapy and MRI scans like literally every day
- 4:21Speaker 2: or every three to six months. And it was tiresome,
- 4:25Speaker 2: but I had my mom on my side every step
- 4:27Speaker 2: of the way. But it's like, this is my life now.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I can't do the things that I want to do
- 4:32Speaker 2: because my back. And going outside, seeing Aaron playing around,
- 4:37Speaker 2: and I can't do that no more because I just
- 4:40Speaker 2: had surgery done, and I have to heal. And even
- 4:45Speaker 2: after healing, they're like, there's no guarantee you're going to
- 4:48Speaker 2: be able to do these things anymore. And I'm like, well,
- 4:52Speaker 2: I'm not going to let my husband find me. And
- 4:54Speaker 2: at the end of the day, God got the last say,
- 4:56Speaker 2: so I'm going to continue. I'm going to bounce back.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I'm going to do the things that I used to do.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And if it gets to the point where my body
- 5:06Speaker 2: be like, no, sit down. I'm going to sit down.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:11Speaker 2: But I'm going to do it anyway. Yeah. And that's
- 5:14Speaker 2: what I did. I did stuff they told me I
- 5:16Speaker 2: wasn't supposed to do. But I did it anyway. And
- 5:20Speaker 2: it did cause issues. It did cause me to go
- 5:22Speaker 2: to the hospital. And it was like, okay, God told
- 5:25Speaker 2: me to sit down. You're doing too much. And I
- 5:29Speaker 2: got depressed. And I cried myself to sleep many days.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And I always ask myself, why? Why me? Why I'm sick? Why?
- 5:38Speaker 2: You know, and it's just like, okay, now what am
- 5:41Speaker 2: I supposed to do? Because now I'm going through this.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I got to find an outlet. And I started writing poetry,
- 5:49Speaker 2: but I started in my journal. Everybody had them journals
- 5:53Speaker 2: back then. Dare, Diary, Dare. That's how the poetry part started.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I started writing my feelings in a diary and journal.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And at 16, I took it to a different level
- 6:06Speaker 2: where poetry came in. Because I'm like, I want to
- 6:09Speaker 2: give it better rhythm and flow. So, you know, let
- 6:12Speaker 2: me do it in a poetry format. I did that.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And I'm like, okay. I found my creative outlet. Let
- 6:20Speaker 2: me go further where they see how far I can go.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I got far to where I wanted to, I didn't
- 6:27Speaker 2: want to publish it right off, but it resurfaced back
- 6:32Speaker 2: to me years later. And I'm like, it's just a,
- 6:36Speaker 2: you know, just a book that, you know, a little
- 6:38Speaker 2: poetry that I wrote out of my diary. It's not
- 6:41Speaker 2: something I want everybody to know about what's going on
- 6:44Speaker 2: with me. But I'm like, everybody got a story to tell.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And you never know. everybody can relate to it some
- 6:51Speaker 2: people can some people can't so I'm like I don't
- 6:54Speaker 2: want nobody in my business it's my personal life and
- 6:57Speaker 2: I'm still like that I'm like no that's private I'm
- 6:59Speaker 2: not putting that out there but I ended up doing
- 7:03Speaker 2: it anyway and I'm like okay I can like inspire
- 7:07Speaker 2: others and it might be other people going through it
- 7:10Speaker 2: too so I took that and I'm like okay let
- 7:14Speaker 2: me go ahead and publish it I had a hard
- 7:17Speaker 2: time finding a publisher that takes in poetry. And I'm like, why?
- 7:23Speaker 2: Poetry ain't dead. It's still alive. So it took, and
- 7:28Speaker 2: I got frustrated with it. So I pushed it to
- 7:30Speaker 2: the side. I was like, I'm not doing it no more.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Then that's when I started getting into charm bracelets. I
- 7:35Speaker 2: started making customized charm bracelets and it starts selling out.
- 7:39Speaker 2: So I'm like, okay, I got my second outlet. I
- 7:42Speaker 2: can do this. And then I'm going to, the writing
- 7:45Speaker 2: came back and I was like, okay, let me try again.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Finally found a Black-owned company that was willing to take
- 7:53Speaker 2: in the story. And when she took the story in,
- 7:58Speaker 2: we released it on March 13, 2024, published it 2023,
- 8:06Speaker 2: and doors opened. Magazines, news reporters, poetry events. I'm like, okay. Okay.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I see you, God. I see you.
- 8:16Speaker 3: You're working. Yeah, a little bit.
- 8:19Speaker 2: For a little while on your timing. Okay, I got it.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Well, I'm glad that you didn't give up. You are
- 8:26Speaker 3: an inspiration and more young women need to hear your
- 8:30Speaker 3: story and know that, yeah, just because I was dealt
- 8:32Speaker 3: a bad hand, that don't mean I'm just going to
- 8:36Speaker 3: take that and not do anything else. I want to
- 8:38Speaker 3: ask you this question. Was there ever a season when
- 8:41Speaker 3: you had something that you wanted to say creatively, but
- 8:44Speaker 3: you didn't feel confident enough to say?
- 8:48Speaker 2: Absolutely. I still get like that to this day. I
- 8:51Speaker 2: still get like that. It's stuff I be wanting to
- 8:53Speaker 2: say and I'm like, no, because I don't want to
- 8:56Speaker 2: hurt nobody's feelings. And this generation day on day, you
- 8:59Speaker 2: just don't know what you want to get. Everybody's mental
- 9:03Speaker 2: state is hey, it's going crazy. So I was like,
- 9:07Speaker 2: I'm just keep some things to myself because you don't
- 9:10Speaker 2: know what you're going to get from a person. You
- 9:12Speaker 2: don't know if they're going to lash out on you,
- 9:13Speaker 2: attack you. You just don't know. So I just be like,
- 9:16Speaker 2: I'm going to keep it to myself. But a part
- 9:18Speaker 2: of me be like, you got to say something. You
- 9:21Speaker 2: got to say something.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, keep saying it. Because I can tell that
- 9:26Speaker 3: you're passionate about it. So keep saying it. When you
- 9:29Speaker 3: think about finding your voice, do you believe the bigger
- 9:32Speaker 3: challenge is discovering what you want to say or trusting
- 9:36Speaker 3: yourself enough to actually say it? Neither.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I think the biggest challenge is the backlash. I've been
- 9:45Speaker 2: receiving a lot of backlash with people that's supposed to
- 9:49Speaker 2: be in my DNA, which is why I tell people
- 9:52Speaker 2: I got my own DNA, me, myself, and I. No shade,
- 9:57Speaker 2: but I can love y'all from a distance. if this
- 9:59Speaker 2: is how y'all already felt this I feel like the
- 10:02Speaker 2: book wasn't really how they felt it was just a
- 10:07Speaker 2: way for them to be like oh you wrote a
- 10:10Speaker 2: book And we read it. And it's like, okay, yeah,
- 10:14Speaker 2: you read it. Yeah, some things might have been about y'all.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But I've been saying it for years and y'all ain't
- 10:18Speaker 2: want to listen to me. So now the book is
- 10:21Speaker 2: out there, y'all got a problem. Because I'm telling everybody
- 10:24Speaker 2: I'm exposing the truth. Mm-hmm.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Do better.
- 10:27Speaker 2: This is how y'all been feeling and y'all just waiting
- 10:29Speaker 2: for a perfect timing.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Right. I mean, I'll tell anybody that if something makes
- 10:34Speaker 3: you offended, like you have to ask yourself, why is
- 10:36Speaker 3: that offending me so much? Or do better. If you
- 10:40Speaker 3: know that something is wrong and you continue to sweep
- 10:42Speaker 3: stuff under the rug and not handle it the way
- 10:44Speaker 3: that it should be handled. And we all have situations
- 10:47Speaker 3: where we've turned the blind eye to certain things. And
- 10:51Speaker 3: if you're not speaking out about the problem, you're a
- 10:55Speaker 3: part of the problem.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Yeah. Now, I'm a writer as well, and we know
- 11:01Speaker 3: that writing can be beautiful, but it can also expose us.
- 11:04Speaker 3: And like you just said, you said a lot, you
- 11:06Speaker 3: exposed a lot. Sometimes we're putting emotions on the page
- 11:10Speaker 3: that we haven't even been able to fully understand or
- 11:14Speaker 3: say out loud to ourselves. Is there a difference between
- 11:18Speaker 3: the niche people encounter in everyday life and the niche
- 11:23Speaker 3: that they meet through your writing?
- 11:27Speaker 2: No, I'm still the same person. okay still outspoken still
- 11:32Speaker 2: speak my.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Mind okay um.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I still do me I'm still me I don't change
- 11:38Speaker 2: for no one regardless if I'm a writer or not
- 11:42Speaker 2: like this is what y'all want to get either y'all
- 11:45Speaker 2: like it or y'all don't you either you take all
- 11:47Speaker 2: of me you don't take or don't take none.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Of me hey I love it being authentically you And
- 11:53Speaker 3: if more people were like that, the world would probably
- 11:55Speaker 3: be so much further ahead. Have you ever written something
- 11:58Speaker 3: and thought, I don't know if I'm ready for people
- 12:01Speaker 3: to notice about me yet?
- 12:03Speaker 2: I want to say yes and no because it's 50-50.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Some people knew some things about me and some people
- 12:15Speaker 2: didn't because I kept it to myself because I wasn't
- 12:18Speaker 2: ready to talk about it.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:20Speaker 2: So when they read my book and they, before, some
- 12:24Speaker 2: of them didn't even read my book. Some people was
- 12:25Speaker 2: just like, I was just talking, having like a plain
- 12:28Speaker 2: conversation and I brought it up. I was like, I've
- 12:30Speaker 2: been there, done that. And they're like, looking at me like,
- 12:33Speaker 2: what you mean? I'm like, we all done some things
- 12:38Speaker 2: in life that we might regret or some things that
- 12:41Speaker 2: we learned from. I'm like, ain't nobody perfect. We all
- 12:45Speaker 2: been on the same boat. We just don't speak on it.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Exactly. Have there ever been moments when someone else's reaction
- 12:53Speaker 3: to your work made you understand why you needed to
- 12:55Speaker 3: write it?
- 12:56Speaker 2: That's a good question. Looking from the outside in, absolutely.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I have close friends who experienced a lot of things.
- 13:10Speaker 2: And it's mostly all the things that I've been through.
- 13:14Speaker 2: They just don't know that I've been through it until
- 13:17Speaker 2: I tell them that I've been through it. And they
- 13:20Speaker 2: feel much better because they felt alone. And I felt
- 13:23Speaker 2: alone too. And I still feel alone. Some days I
- 13:25Speaker 2: still feel alone. Even when I go to talk to,
- 13:29Speaker 2: if I go to like a youth program where I'm
- 13:33Speaker 2: talking to the youth or I'm going to a healing
- 13:37Speaker 2: circle and I'm listening to everybody's stories. And I'm like,
- 13:42Speaker 2: I've been there. I've been there. I know exactly how
- 13:46Speaker 2: y'all feel because I still go through it. even with
- 13:49Speaker 2: the suicide attempts, everybody didn't know I went through that
- 13:53Speaker 2: because I kept it to myself.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Why do you feel like you kept it to yourself, though? Like,
- 13:59Speaker 3: why did you feel like you needed to keep that
- 14:02Speaker 3: to yourself, especially in the healing circle?
- 14:05Speaker 2: When you grow up in a household where you're not
- 14:10Speaker 2: allowed to speak on your feelings and when you try
- 14:16Speaker 2: to tell someone They don't listen to you. So it's
- 14:22Speaker 2: a lot of things that I cut to myself because
- 14:26Speaker 2: of that reason. Because I feel like if I say something,
- 14:30Speaker 2: nobody's not hearing me. They're not understanding me. So I
- 14:34Speaker 2: keep it to myself. But when I'm talking to my
- 14:37Speaker 2: therapist and she's like, you got to open up more,
- 14:41Speaker 2: tell your story. I'm like, the only way I know
- 14:43Speaker 2: how to tell my story is by writing.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I'm not good with public speaking. This is the most, like,
- 14:52Speaker 2: I've done public speaking when I was 19 or 20,
- 14:56Speaker 2: but getting more into it, this is the most I've
- 14:59Speaker 2: ever done. And it's because I'm finally for free and
- 15:04Speaker 2: I'm finally finding my voice and then I can open
- 15:07Speaker 2: up to everybody.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Well, I never would have got that from you because
- 15:10Speaker 3: you're good at it. You're good at it. I'll keep.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I'm glad you said that. My therapist said that. She
- 15:20Speaker 2: was like, you're so bubbly. You always smile. And I'm like,
- 15:23Speaker 2: I smile to cover the pain.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Wow. Wow. And I believe that a lot of people
- 15:33Speaker 3: do that. And we have to have conversations that are
- 15:36Speaker 3: hard so we can normalize those conversations so that we
- 15:40Speaker 3: can change the narrative when it comes to that. Because
- 15:42Speaker 3: I don't feel like we should have to cover up
- 15:45Speaker 3: our pain. It's our truth. It's our experience. And we
- 15:48Speaker 3: should all have somebody who is willing to listen to
- 15:52Speaker 3: what we have to say and not judge or make
- 15:55Speaker 3: us feel a certain way for sharing that part of
- 15:58Speaker 3: what happened to us.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I agree. This war is so judgmental. It's sad. I mean,
- 16:06Speaker 2: everybody's speaking on it now. But any other time, mental
- 16:11Speaker 2: health was like pushed to the side.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Swap under the rug. We don't talk about that.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Go lay down somewhere.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Just need a nap. But now it's more open and
- 16:21Speaker 2: it's a lot of resources now.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. We're breaking the stigma because we're the generation
- 16:27Speaker 3: that says it stops with us. Yeah. So one of
- 16:32Speaker 3: the hardest things for creative people isn't always creating. Sometimes
- 16:37Speaker 3: it's believing that what we've created deserves face in the world.
- 16:41Speaker 3: You just talked about that a little bit about having
- 16:43Speaker 3: a voice and being heard. Let's talk about moving from
- 16:46Speaker 3: having the words to actually sharing them. What was the
- 16:49Speaker 3: turning point that moved you from simply writing to saying,
- 16:54Speaker 3: I'm going to become an author?
- 16:58Speaker 2: Hmm. Honestly, my therapist.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Really?
- 17:06Speaker 2: My therapist and my best friend, because my best friend,
- 17:09Speaker 2: me and her have the same exact problems at home.
- 17:15Speaker 2: And she was like, you're my inspiration. That's what made
- 17:17Speaker 2: me like, okay, I'm inspiring someone. Let me continue writing
- 17:23Speaker 2: because I'm doing it not just for me, but I'm
- 17:25Speaker 2: doing it for the ones that can't speak. And my therapist,
- 17:29Speaker 2: she said it herself. She said, You're an inspiration. You're
- 17:34Speaker 2: a star. You got a good personality. Continue to write
- 17:37Speaker 2: your story because your story can inspire a whole lot
- 17:41Speaker 2: of people while you're even knowing it.
- 17:45Speaker 3: And then you're also an actor. Have you ever thought
- 17:47Speaker 3: about turning some of your poetry into like short films
- 17:51Speaker 3: or short stories or movies or documentaries or anything like that?
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yes, I've been pitching to directors. Mainly Philly has been
- 18:00Speaker 2: taking notice of it. My biggest goal is to really,
- 18:05Speaker 2: if I could get fully, that's fine. But I really
- 18:08Speaker 2: want to work with Tyler Perry.
- 18:10Speaker 3: So Tyler Perry, if you are listening, hey, Nisha B
- 18:16Speaker 3: is ready. She is ready and she's writing and she's ready.
- 18:20Speaker 3: So shout out to Tyler Perry. He is awesome. So
- 18:23Speaker 3: we hope that one of his people or he's just
- 18:26Speaker 3: stumbling one day and finds this episode and he reaches out.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Yes, I hope so. I've been wondering where we're going
- 18:33Speaker 2: for years, since I was 18. Yeah.
- 18:36Speaker 3: What would you say to someone listening who has journals
- 18:40Speaker 3: filled with poems, stories, ideas, or dreams, but keeps telling
- 18:45Speaker 3: themselves they're not ready to share them? What would you
- 18:48Speaker 3: tell them, someone who's listening today?
- 18:50Speaker 2: I would tell them, share your story, because you never
- 18:56Speaker 2: know who will need it.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. Do you think sometimes we're waiting for permission from
- 19:03Speaker 3: people who were never supposed to understand the vision in
- 19:07Speaker 3: the first place?
- 19:09Speaker 2: Absolutely. I've been there. I always tried to wait for
- 19:12Speaker 2: someone to, oh, yeah, go ahead and put it out there.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Then I'm like, if I put it out there, how
- 19:21Speaker 2: would you really feel? Would you be upset about it?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Would you be happy? Or would you put it on
- 19:28Speaker 2: the front and like you're happy but you're already upset?
- 19:35Speaker 2: And I've come across all of this. If I put
- 19:38Speaker 2: it out there and you're giving me permission to put
- 19:41Speaker 2: it out there, I don't want to hear the backlash
- 19:45Speaker 2: because you gave me permission. Period.
- 19:49Speaker 3: All right, so... we are coming to one of my
- 19:52Speaker 3: favorite parts of the show the mic drop three questions
- 19:56Speaker 3: about life love and mindset don't overthink it just give
- 20:00Speaker 3: me the first thing that comes to you okay all
- 20:04Speaker 3: right this first question is about life What has life
- 20:07Speaker 3: taught you about the woman you are still becoming? Oh, shoot.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Never give up. You are who you are. Okay.
- 20:19Speaker 3: This next one is about love. What has love in
- 20:22Speaker 3: any form taught you about finding or protecting your voice?
- 20:27Speaker 2: Finding in a healthy way.
- 20:29Speaker 3: In a healthy way. I love that. And then this
- 20:32Speaker 3: last one is about mindset. What belief about yourself did
- 20:36Speaker 3: you have to unlearn before you could fully step into
- 20:40Speaker 3: who you are becoming?
- 20:43Speaker 2: Stopping myself last.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Oh, I love that. Let's hit on that a little bit.
- 20:48Speaker 2: With me being loving, caring, and kind. I always have
- 20:53Speaker 2: put myself on a back burner and put everybody else first.
- 20:57Speaker 2: If somebody needs something, I'm there. Whether it's money or
- 21:01Speaker 2: a meal, the last t-shirt on my back, whatever it is,
- 21:07Speaker 2: I'm there, but I never pour that into me.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Okay. I believe that when you have a good heart,
- 21:15Speaker 3: sometimes people can kind of take advantage of you or
- 21:19Speaker 3: see how far you're going to let them go. So
- 21:21Speaker 3: the fact that you are being open about being a
- 21:25Speaker 3: kind person, because we all should be kind, although we
- 21:28Speaker 3: know that they don't have all, you know, kind people
- 21:30Speaker 3: are not everybody that makes up the world. So thank
- 21:34Speaker 3: you for letting our listeners know about that and expounding
- 21:37Speaker 3: up on it. Because we may have someone that's very
- 21:40Speaker 3: kind and loving and giving today that's listening and don't
- 21:45Speaker 3: feel seen or heard. Yeah. So before I let you go,
- 21:51Speaker 3: I want to make sure everyone knows about supporting you.
- 21:55Speaker 3: So tell us about your book and the work that
- 21:57Speaker 3: you're creating right now. And where can everybody purchase your book,
- 22:00Speaker 3: connect with you, or follow to see what's next with
- 22:02Speaker 3: Nisha B?
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yes, The Ride of My Life is on Amazon. Getting
- 22:08Speaker 2: republished by a new publisher, but it's on Amazon right now.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I have another book coming out called Broken Hearted. We
- 22:18Speaker 2: don't have the date right now because we're under a
- 22:21Speaker 2: new publisher. After that is a book signing tour. And
- 22:25Speaker 2: I'll also be on my first book signing with four
- 22:28Speaker 2: other authors at the book joint in Chicago, October the 31st. Yes,
- 22:34Speaker 2: right on Halloween of this year, by the way. I'm
- 22:39Speaker 2: excited about that. I just got the phone with her
- 22:41Speaker 2: after I got going on with you about it. I'm
- 22:43Speaker 2: on Instagram, but not like that. But I'm on there
- 22:46Speaker 2: for business purposes under it's Nisha B-I-T-Z-N-E-C-I-A, the letter B
- 22:51Speaker 2: as a boy. And then my Facebook is the same.
- 22:54Speaker 3: All right, guys. And all of that information will be
- 22:57Speaker 3: in the show notes so that you can go and
- 22:59Speaker 3: support Nisha, see what she hanging out, what she has next.
- 23:02Speaker 3: We can't wait for Broken Hearted to come out. So
- 23:04Speaker 3: make sure you let us know when it does. And
- 23:07Speaker 3: maybe you can come back and share it with the
- 23:09Speaker 3: people on Kicking It With Kiki. Absolutely. Yes. And I
- 23:14Speaker 3: have one final question that I ask every guest who
- 23:17Speaker 3: sits down with me. When life challenges you and love
- 23:21Speaker 3: stretches you, what mindset keeps you grounded? Oh, that's a
- 23:27Speaker 3: good question.
- 23:28Speaker 2: When I go through my tough times, I drop down
- 23:32Speaker 2: to my knees. I pray. I listen to gospel music.
- 23:39Speaker 2: That's my escape. If it ain't poetry, that's my escape.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Who are some of your favorite gospel artists?
- 23:49Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Don't hate me for this, but he's
- 23:54Speaker 2: not my number one, but Kirk Franklin is one of them.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Pastor Mike is one. Timbaland. Mary Mary. I love Mary Mary.
- 24:06Speaker 2: So far, just them four.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:09Speaker 3: That's a good list, though. That's a good list. Because
- 24:12Speaker 3: I like all of those, too.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yes, it puts me in the right mood.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Yes. So if you could tell the listeners a word
- 24:21Speaker 3: of encouragement today, what would it be?
- 24:25Speaker 2: Love yourself. Love you for you. Not for nobody else.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Love it.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Nisha, thank you for kicking it with me today and
- 24:37Speaker 3: for reminding us that finding our voice is simply about
- 24:41Speaker 3: learning how to speak louder. Sometimes it's about finally trusting
- 24:46Speaker 3: what we have to say and that it does deserve
- 24:49Speaker 3: to be heard. And to everyone listening, I want you
- 24:52Speaker 3: to remember this. Your story doesn't have to be finished
- 24:55Speaker 3: for your voice to matter. Sometimes we wait until we've
- 24:59Speaker 3: healed everything, figured out everything, or found the perfect ending
- 25:03Speaker 3: before we believe we're qualified to speak about what we've experienced.
- 25:09Speaker 3: But maybe the power isn't always in the ending. Maybe
- 25:14Speaker 3: it's the courage to say, this is where I am,
- 25:18Speaker 3: this is what I've learned, and this is what I
- 25:21Speaker 3: know right now. This has been your mindset moment for today.
- 25:27Speaker 3: I'm Kiki Chanel, and this has been another episode of
- 25:30Speaker 3: Kicking It With Kiki, a life-loving mindset. Until next time,
- 25:33Speaker 3: keep choosing you, keep growing, keep showing up, and keep
- 25:38Speaker 3: your mindset working for you, not against you. Okay? Amen.
- 25:45Speaker 3: I'll see you later.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Thank you.
