- 0:30I am your host,
- 0:31Mindy McCulley,
- 0:32family and consumer sciences extension specialist for instructional support at the University of Kentucky today.
- 0:39My guest is LaToya Drake,
- 0:41the marketing and media program coordinator with our Kentucky nutrition education program.
- 0:46Welcome LaToya,
- 0:48Hey Mindy,
- 0:49I'm excited to have you here.
- 0:51First of all,
- 0:51you're a new voice to the podcast.
- 0:53So we always love when we have new voices on.
- 0:56But also we're gonna talk about an initiative that you all started about three years ago which a lot of people might not have heard about.
- 1:03And that is the Plan Eat Move website.
- 1:07So talk to me what exactly,
- 1:09where is it?
- 1:10How can we find it?
- 1:11And what are people gonna be able to do on that website?
- 1:14So,
- 1:15but planning Move website is our public interfacing website and you're gonna find that at plan eat move dot com.
- 1:22So go there for a lot of information,
- 1:25including free resources,
- 1:28gardening tips of farmers market and food bank locator recipes galore and food demonstration videos.
- 1:36Oh,
- 1:36that's exciting.
- 1:37And the fact that it is a dot com site might throw people off because most of our sites are educational sites but that just makes it more accessible to the public.
- 1:47Right.
- 1:48Right.
- 1:49And we feature a lot of additional partners and resources on the site to I know that many of our counties work closely with feeding America and getting folks fed.
- 1:59And that information is on the site through or find a food bank locator.
- 2:03You can also find farmers markets in your in your area on the website.
- 2:07And I will mention that we will link the website in the show notes so that people can go directly to that site from our podcast.
- 2:16What are some of the benefits that you have seen from this public facing website?
- 2:21What benefit is we do a lot of food demonstrations and cooking classes and just we cook in public a lot.
- 2:28And this is just a great way for folks to find the recipe easily that's accessible and you can see it.
- 2:35And there's even picture recipes for many of them as well as video recipes.
- 2:39So I think that's the biggest advantage when people see a recipe demonstrated out in the community,
- 2:45sometimes you forget to pick up that that recipe card or whatever.
- 2:49So having access to this website is a great way to continue the conversation beyond that free demonstration.
- 2:55Right.
- 2:55Right.
- 2:57So are you um I know that we have lots of program assistance our our food and nutrition assistance across the state.
- 3:04Are they contributing them to this website as well?
- 3:08I have some like one of the main things in my job is helping organize the website and curate the website and I have some ideas about getting assistance involved through the blog.
- 3:19But those haven't happened yet.
- 3:20This is mainly a state level effort to be used as a resources for those assistance and families and whoever.
- 3:28Alright.
- 3:29So that it's wonderful that not only do our public facing clientele are able to access the information that's provided on the website,
- 3:39but then also our employees also can access that information.
- 3:44It makes it just come to seamless transition room for for both groups.
- 3:48Right.
- 3:49Right.
- 3:49There's a lot of video demonstrations of recipes and those are great things to use in programming.
- 3:56And I know many of our assistants use those and their programs when they can't cook,
- 4:00especially during the covid times when we weren't able to do those kind of things,
- 4:04they would use the video so folks could see still see what the recipe looked like.
- 4:08And that's a great way to make sure that everybody is seeing the same information together.
- 4:13You know,
- 4:13they're seeing it all at the same time.
- 4:16That's a wonderful resource that you all have available.
- 4:19Have you been able to extend your reach using this this website beyond those local county groups definitely extended reached across the state because this website is used as content on our social media platforms like instagram and facebook.
- 4:37So it's great to just have we have an abundance of resources in any P and and extension as well.
- 4:42And we don't often use those resources as well as because so this is a great resource to use to continue to expand your programming through other media outlets And we encourage people if you're listening and you just discover to plan eat move to share that with your friends too because this is something that's a benefit to all families.
- 5:01The free resource.
- 5:03And I love that.
- 5:04We also educate about food safety on the site.
- 5:07So that's something that you know,
- 5:08folks need to know about to avoid getting their families sick.
- 5:12Exactly.
- 5:12You know,
- 5:13food safety is important step in the in the food preparation process.
- 5:18If you don't follow those guidelines,
- 5:20then you definitely can get your family sick and it's not a fun sickness to deal with not one sickness to deal with.
- 5:28Yes.
