- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. And it's a Friday, so it's
- 0:15Yvonne, too. Hello Evonne, it is the 1st of
- 0:18May. Wow, the year has been rolling
- 0:21on. Isn't that awesome?
- 0:21Which means it must almost be time for the public holiday,
- 0:24Mayday as it. Turns out, not in Tasmania.
- 0:28I was so keen for an Anzac Day public holiday, I said on Monday
- 0:32boldly that it was and it actually wasn't in Tasmania, so
- 0:37I will not make that mistake. So Queensland might have Labour
- 0:40Day, the NT might have Mayday, but Tasmania, we're just going
- 0:43to go to work as normal on Monday.
- 0:44Excellent. Yikes.
- 0:48But all of that aside, we've got some work to do today, which is
- 0:52to read some proverbs. And this is the section where
- 0:55rather than these generic sayings of wisdom, it really is
- 0:59the the king talking to my child or my son.
- 1:03It's talking to this young person giving very specific
- 1:06advice, which often comes in larger chunks.
- 1:09Yes. So you might notice we're
- 1:11reading multiple verses together, but keeping it in the
- 1:16keeping it divided in the sections that it was intended.
- 1:19So it's going to sound like 3 proverbs, but actually it's like
- 1:241234567 different verses. Yep.
- 1:27OK, let's. Do it.
- 1:28Alrighty, we are going to read together Proverbs 2315 to 21.
- 1:44My child, if your heart is wise, my own heart will rejoice.
- 1:50Everything in me will celebrate when you speak what is right.
- 1:55Don't envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord.
- 2:00You'll be rewarded for this. Your hope will not be
- 2:04disappointed. My child, listen and be wise.
- 2:08Keep your heart on the right course.
- 2:11Do not carouse with drunkards or feast with gluttons, for they
- 2:15are on their way to poverty and too much sleep clothes them in
- 2:20rags and again. My child, if your heart is wise,
- 2:29my own heart will rejoice. Everything in me will celebrate
- 2:33when you speak what is right. Don't envy sinners, but always
- 2:39continue to fear the Lord. You will be rewarded for this.
- 2:43Your hope will not be disappointed.
- 2:46My child, listen and be wise. Keep your heart on the right
- 2:51course. Do not carouse with drunkards or
- 2:54feast with gluttons, for they are on their way to poverty and
- 2:58too much sleep clothes them in rags.
- 3:12I find this fascinating. So many of the Proverbs talk
- 3:14about observing the actions and behaviours of people, but this
- 3:19time, when Solomon is giving these instructions to this young
- 3:23person, it's all about where do we place our hope?
- 3:27It's all about where our heart is invested.
- 3:31And so many of these ask us to do something actively.
- 3:36They want us not to, like they want us to work for things or
- 3:40just be careful not to just lie around doing nothing.
- 3:44It's a very active process in so many of these.
- 3:50So we can continue to fear the Lord, We can put our hope in the
- 3:53Lord. We can make sure our heart is on
- 3:55the right course toward God. And it's a lifelong journey,
- 3:59isn't it? We're all striving, trying to be
- 4:02more like more like Christ. Yeah.
- 4:07Oh Lord, this is our lifelong journey.
- 4:10Thank you for this continued encouragement to continue to
- 4:14align our heart to you, to continue to put our hope in you
- 4:19and that as we do these things, this is the the way of wise
- 4:24living. Not to be distracted and chasing
- 4:27left, right and centre as different bright shiny things
- 4:30come across our path, but to keep you as our true North.
- 4:36You are never changing, always consistent, always present.
- 4:42God, we love you and we do put our hope in you and all that you
- 4:47have given us and all that you promise in US, particularly
- 4:52through what Jesus has done for us.
- 4:53He has restored us to you, into your family so that we can step
- 4:58confidently into your presence and into your embrace.
- 5:02And so we do that now today and pray that you hold us close as
- 5:07we go about our days and your presence and your wisdom and in
- 5:11your love. And we pray this in Jesus name,
- 5:14Amen.
