- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Before we begin family, a quick heads up.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: This story is a horror game and as such, it is full of things that might disturb your dreams, follow in your footsteps, and haunt your waking hours.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Please check the episode description for a full list of content warnings before proceeding.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Take care of yourselves, and thanks for listening.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: decades have passed.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: The children are now men gathered in dismal Pennsylvania for Adelaide's funeral.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: But the woods remember.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: The service for Adelaide is over.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: It was held in the small, Steffi Church here in this cold-dusted town of Dismal Pennsylvania.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: The funeral was mostly exactly as you thought it would be, except for the haunting playback of Adelaide's voice.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: They had a recording of her.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: It was, you know, lifted and song, and it was accompanied by a high lonesome.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: tune of her fiddle that she used to play.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: And as you both step out of the heavy, definitely air of the church into the crisp afternoon, the gravel crunches under your boots, and as you stand outside the church doors, looking around the small gathering of mourners,
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: your eyes land on each other's faces that you haven't seen in over 20 years.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: But despite the decades that have passed, you recognize each other instantly.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: Deep.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, well, I thought that was you, did, W. Good to see you, Ken.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_03]: And I'll extend my hand.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_02]: Zeke takes a moment, and then he takes a hand.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: Lackwise, I wish she was under better circumstances.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: Shit, man.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_03]: She was a good one, better than the two of us.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_03]: Nathridam, sure.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: What does WWE look like now?
- 2:25[SPEAKER_03]: W is in his late 30s, he's got a kind of a scraigly beard going taller.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_03]: She's probably about 6162, Sandy Brown here, his eyes are a little deep set, sharp features.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_03]: Rugged looking.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_03]: He's just kind of wearing a flannel jacket.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's got a long wicked looking machete hanging up by his belt and a rucksack over shoulder filled with gear.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: looks like he spends more time outdoors than anything his skin is kind of weathered and and you can tell the sun's kind of had it's work on his face okay and for Zique what do we see Zique strangely enough was taller when they were younger but his now looks up a little bit at
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: He stands at about five, 10, maybe.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's wearing these, like, fine black denim work overalls over.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: He wore like a, he had like a little like suit jacket on for the ceremony.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think this is the scene probably happened near his pickup truck.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: And he was throwing that in there and throwing on like his warmer.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like, one of those like wool jackets, I like big it poofy on the inside, but like nice quarter away on the outside.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: Key keeps a nice, like, primed the little curled mustache and a bushy little beard at the bottom.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: He's starting to gray from, he's got like a salt and pepper going where it used to be like a deep black and now it's some flash flex of gray, both in his mustache, his beard and his sideburns.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: But it looks like he tries to keep his face clean
- 4:10[SPEAKER_02]: and sleeping in the back seat of his truck.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: And a big dog bed is a black German shepherd with a red collar that's sort of just sitting there sleeping under like a big blanket kind of laying there waiting for the ceremony to be done.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: He'll have a drive to get here, but I wouldn't want to miss this.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_03]: He's staying in town long.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_03]: All right, head and back to the city.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: I took some time off, so I've never taken a Prince up here before.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: I might go on a hack sometime with him as a gesture to the dog who like perks his head out.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_03]: Well, listen, why don't you?
- 4:54[SPEAKER_03]: Why don't you come by my cabin?
- 4:57[SPEAKER_03]: Have a drink.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_03]: For Adley.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think I can pencil you in.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_03]: Leave the way.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: Our city sticker now.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: As you both are standing outside the church, there is a shift in the wind and it starts to blow a bit coming in from the forest and immediately both of you get this overwhelming urge.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: to see that spot again, that old fort in the woods.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's just the flashes of memory from your childhood hit you both at the same time, and it's strong.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little overwhelming.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think of Riko?
- 5:43[SPEAKER_03]: Is that an old fort that we had when we were kids?
- 5:47[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think that thinks still stand enough to hold this time?
- 5:51[SPEAKER_03]: That's the eye.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, but I'm kind of...
- 5:54[SPEAKER_03]: I'm kind of curious now after all these years, like kind of honestly, I've kind of avoided that place, but I don't blame you.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I suppose we could, I mean, if we're gonna be up drinking all night anyway, we might as well stretch our legs out.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: Hail, Prince could use an ass trail through the woods.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_03]: Hold the rucksack over my shoulder and just kind of open it up on the ground and pull out a bottle of whiskey, I think it will be set Pour one out for over there Good idea.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_03]: You always had good ideas.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: See And Yeah, why don't we drive part way My my knees aren't as loud as they used to be
- 6:47[SPEAKER_03]: going to say those are pretty fancy shoes you got on with one get the muddy now.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_03]: I got my work boots in the back.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: Alright.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: Hop on in.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: Don't mind that the smell that's just prints like it smells like like a dog lives in here like it's not like a like a like not like he did anything in there but just like you know like that you know an animal lives somewhere like that's it's kind of like yeah
- 7:17[SPEAKER_03]: As I get in, that's good John Prince.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: Prince Lich, yeah, Prince sort of like, like, the hops into the back seat and sort of sits there with his head like out and he definitely like a sniffing you.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: Ah.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: Prince always has a good Georgia character.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_03]: Make sure he behaves.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: You can see that W's not 100% comfortable with this German Shepherd beating over your shoulder.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: For the sake of audio, I'm not going to make a whistle or click.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'll just say that Zick clicks his tongue a little bit and almost like add attention prints like perks up and then just does the dog thing of spinning in a circle for a moment and lays down.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: it's about 1931.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: So your car is probably like a rickety old Ford Ford.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a 1931 Ford Ford model.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: They look very boxy.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's perfect for him.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's a very popular car model.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll say that you have this car as you guys make your way.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then you finally make your way to the edge of the forest.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Is he pull up and park?
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I imagine one of those like dirt pull off parking lots where you go into a trail and stuff.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_03]: And all right, just the suspension on these 1931 cars is not that great.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_03]: So I kind of should bounce you around.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'll write you the app.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, a lot.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I got it as this far, you're going to take over Mr. of the Mount, man, better get them work boots on.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know it, and Zika will go around to the back of his truck and he opens it up and prints hops out.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to take a leash and kind of like wrap it around his hip, but he's not going to let Prince be on the leash right now, because
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: These are, get stretchin' his legs.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's gonna grab his own back pack.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: You'll see like a long, like, a tool box.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: He opens it up and inside.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: You can see he's got some work gloves boots.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: He puts the boots on.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: He's got a back pack with some of his supplies.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: You can see that there's like animal traps and some, like deterrence and things like that.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: And you can see Philadelphia animal control sort of labeled on some of the equipment in here.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: pieces to the assemble into a rifle that he kind of puts into a case into his long backpack.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I found remember there might be bears up in his woods.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what he says, but he's against animal control.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: I am a control.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, handle some mostly garments and bugs in sex and
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: rabbits, but you save rabbits.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: He kind of like has a hang of a like a flash of a memory.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't like completely have the pieces to like a broken puzzle.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: No, no rabbits.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: Not that I can remember, but they usually not the invasive tap.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: Mostly raccoons and things like that.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_03]: Although there ain't no need for that leash here.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_03]: That's what that's for.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's so best.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: There's eventually, make your way back and for W, it's kind of like when you have a red road a bike in a while and you get back on, you suddenly just, your body just knows how it works and it leads you to that spot for many years ago and it's, it almost feels inevitable that you would end up back here, both of you, in this clearing.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: With your friend from childhood, and you remember, even if you try to push it down that bloody rabbit comes into your mind, a flash, a quick one.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: You remember the promise you made.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: And as you both step into the center of where the fort used to be, the fort is gone.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: You start to hear singing in the wind.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: And you hear Lady's voice.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: Lady is what everybody called Adelaide.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: You start to hear her voice in these woods, but she's not singing, but she's saying your name.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: She's saying hello.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: You hear, hello, W?
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: Seek?
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: And it's coming from behind you.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_03]: Zika, now you pay no heed to what you think you might be hearing.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_03]: That ain't nothing, but trouble.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_03]: You hear me?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_03]: Look at me, Seek.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_03]: What, um, look at me.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_03]: I'm looking at you.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_03]: You ain't here, nothing.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_03]: You ain't here, and you ain't here, and what you're thinking you're here.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: Does it sound like Adelaide's voice that we heard on the recording or does it sound like her as a child?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: It sounds like her voice from the recording.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's a, and it's an adult woman.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it first, it kind of, it starts to fade in, and then it starts to form and shape and become clearer and clearer.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then you start to hear footsteps as well, get closer.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Are you guys going to turn around and give me a hug?
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: Don't.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Zeke's going to Prince Heal and get Prince close to him.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: How is the dog reacting to this?
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: The dog is not reacting at all.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: Is there something behind us?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: I should know about Don't pay it.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_03]: No need.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_03]: Let me know what that's you know.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: It sounds like I don't know what you're talking about It's my it's my it's my route to not say how to a friend you haven't seen in years fellas Beautiful night ain't it's you The fuck you doing you hear it, too.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: Don't you?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't hear enough screw with me, are you?
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: You're from behind you.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: I can hear both of you.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: Don't talk to me like I'm not.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: Don't talk about me like I'm not here.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_03]: Don't you fucking dare.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I've grabbed you by the lapel of your jacket and start pulling you.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: You tell me what the fuck's going on then.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: I don't get what's happening here.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: A few hours ago when you were saying goodbye to us.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: And now she's right, right behind her.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know who you're talking about.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_03]: Let's just go and drink some whiskey, god dammit.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to use it.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to hear footsteps as you get closer.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: And eventually, just like out of the corner of your eye, peripheral vision, you see Adelaide coming into view.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: As she stands in front of you,
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Now what, now what's going on?
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: W, seek it, it really is me.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: Hello?
- 14:57[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't think you guys come back afterwards here.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_02]: Anywhere about an error direction?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: Is he quit being a jackass?
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, just come on.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: Well, come on with.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: Is that real you?
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: It really is real.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: She's looking, she's like, touching herself.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's the adult version of her.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I haven't described what Adelaide looks like.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: Adelaide has dark hair.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well, now it's dark.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: She has, not turquoise.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: She has green eyes.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: Her skin has a tan from the sun.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: And her hair right now is in a braid in the back.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: And she's wearing, she's wearing a dress, actually.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's the yellow dress and it has sunflowers on it.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: She's wearing boots to walk in the forest, and she looks real.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: She looks corporeal, substantial.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: You can hear her and see her perfectly.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: Is this some kind of joke, W?
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: You'll pull the prank on me.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's her right in front of us.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: No, it ain't.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: It ain't.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: We've gone and just buried her today.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: We'll, you can't forget, we'll.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_03]: And you'll see him rummage around into his co-pocket and pull out a little piece of wood that's painted blue.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_03]: It just looks like a piece of, exciting that it's kind of ripped off.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_03]: And he's holding in front of him not looking at it.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_03]: Stay away.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_03]: You wish?
- 16:34[SPEAKER_03]: Go sign on a what the hell you are, but you
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: You wait, haven't me, and still not looking at her, I'm just gonna... She, uh, as you're not looking at her, you do feel a soft hand touch your shoulder.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: She says, will, just let me explain to both of you.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: I know that I'm dead.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: I am a ghost.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: I stood right outside that stuffy church and listened to the recording of my own fiddle plane right alongside you, but I couldn't move on.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: I know that I'm stuck here until our dead is paid.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember there all those years ago?
- 17:15[SPEAKER_02]: I remember hitting my head pretty bad and the fort collapsed and he doesn't want to say rabbit rabbit.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's like caught in the back of his throat.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry to drag you both into the dark like this, but this clearing in you too, you were the only real family I ever dreamed of having and you saved me then and I need you to help me finish this now.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_02]: Finish what?
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: Do we need to... And then as soon as you hear finish what?
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: You hear something, something, something, something.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: Rabbit rabbit appears once again, larger than any rabbit should be clicked ear as it stands in front of you.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: And that brings our time in the woods to a close.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: A massive thank you to our players Andrew Park as W.E.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: and Michael Gilbert as Ezekiel Green.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Maya, and I have been your gay master and narrator.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much for listening.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: Take care of yourselves, family, and remember.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's always best to leave them, go solo.
