- 0:57Speaker 3: Hey, welcome. I'm glad to have you with us on
- 1:00Speaker 3: this Tuesday edition.
- 1:01Speaker 1: This portion of the program brought to you by Central
- 1:04Speaker 1: Texas Sports Medicine. You're here on a decent day. We've
- 1:08Speaker 1: slapped together a show, believe it or not. We're gonna
- 1:11Speaker 1: award our weekly winner from last week for the contests
- 1:15Speaker 1: coming up here in a minute. We've got our high
- 1:17Speaker 1: school report. We're gonna hear from LSU football coach Brian Kelly,
- 1:23Speaker 1: and I'm gonna be joined by author Dan Beck. He
- 1:28Speaker 1: has written a book on Michael Jackson. There have been
- 1:33Speaker 1: several of course, Beck is a former record exec with Epic.
- 1:38Speaker 1: The book is called You've Got Michael Living Through History.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It is intriguing, it is fascinating.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Like everything else about Michael Jackson, Dan Beck will join
- 1:49Speaker 1: us and in the second hour pund the neighbors.
- 1:53Speaker 3: And wake the kids.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'm pulling out an interview that we did back in
- 1:57Speaker 1: June with the great Errol Razor Ray, the best game
- 2:02Speaker 1: analyst in any sport. For the Dallas Stars Stars Hockey
- 2:07Speaker 1: is back underway and we caught up with Ray after
- 2:13Speaker 1: winning the coveted Forrest Hewitt Award for Contribution to the
- 2:18Speaker 1: sport of Hockey.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Razor is just.
- 2:24Speaker 1: A riddle wrapped in an enigma. No, no, no, he
- 2:27Speaker 1: is just always fun and we're gonna do that.
- 2:30Speaker 3: And also Mallory.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Texas A and M has been found in violation of
- 2:37Speaker 1: the n C Double A playing rule governing feigned injuries.
- 2:44Speaker 1: They have been fined fifty thousand dollars and Mike Elko
- 2:49Speaker 1: has been placed on double secret probation. Video of the incident,
- 2:56Speaker 1: which was sent by the SEC to the National Coordinator
- 3:01Speaker 1: for Football Officiating, occurred with twelve fifty five left in
- 3:06Speaker 1: the game after Arkansas completed a pass for a first
- 3:09Speaker 1: down just outside the A and M ten. After the
- 3:12Speaker 1: ball is spotted, Tarique Chappelle seen going to the ground,
- 3:17Speaker 1: creating an appearance of an injury. An A and M
- 3:21Speaker 1: staff member on video can be seen standing in the
- 3:24Speaker 1: team area signaling to the player pointing to the ground.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It was noted that the an M player had no
- 3:32Speaker 1: contact on the play returned to the game on the
- 3:34Speaker 1: second play of the ensuing defensive possession. The action by
- 3:40Speaker 1: the player, especially quote concurrent action by the coach and
- 3:44Speaker 1: the team era as a clear attempt to gain an
- 3:47Speaker 1: unmerited advantage by stopping the game to be awarded an
- 3:52Speaker 1: injury time out. The official statement from Mike Elko's office,
- 3:58Speaker 1: we respect the SEC's decision and understand the importance of
- 4:02Speaker 1: upholding the integrity of the game. While we accept the ruling,
- 4:06Speaker 1: we do not agree with the decision and want to
- 4:09Speaker 1: be clear that we never coach or instruct our players
- 4:12Speaker 1: to fade injury. Texas A and M Football remains firmly
- 4:15Speaker 1: committed to the highest standards of sportsmanship, competitiveness, and integrity.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Will use this as an opportunity to review our processes
- 4:27Speaker 1: and ensure we continue to represent our great university and
- 4:31Speaker 1: the SEC with class and accountability. Big twelve Commissioner Brett
- 4:38Speaker 1: yor Mark said today he's in favor of expanding the
- 4:42Speaker 1: NCAA Basketball Tournament and the College Football Playoff, though he
- 4:47Speaker 1: remains cautious about exactly how too of those will look
- 4:53Speaker 1: in the future. In Cuba, President Charlie Baker said he
- 4:57Speaker 1: supported the expansion of March Madness, which why wouldn't you?
- 5:01Speaker 1: Because March Madness has been such an epic failure.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Over the years. Let's start screwing around with it. How
- 5:09Speaker 3: can we change it? How can we make it better?
- 5:12Speaker 1: Let's use let's say seventy six as the new number
- 5:17Speaker 1: going forward. Marcel Reid is the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose
- 5:22Speaker 1: Award National Player of the Week, counting for four touchdowns,
- 5:27Speaker 1: completing twenty three of thirty two for two hundred and
- 5:30Speaker 1: eighty two hundred eighty yards, three tds, rush for fifty
- 5:34Speaker 1: five yards and a score on six carries, and a
- 5:39Speaker 1: and M's forty five forty two win over the Piggy
- 5:42Speaker 1: People on Saturday. Former Alabama coach Nick Saban says he
- 5:48Speaker 1: isn't surprised by the recent string of high profile firings
- 5:51Speaker 1: in college football because fans and alumni who donate money
- 5:55Speaker 1: are more influential than ever. There have been nine in season,
- 6:00Speaker 1: firing six at power four. You know, I'm not surprised.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Everybody's raising money to pay players. So the people that
- 6:07Speaker 1: are giving them money think they have a voice, and
- 6:09Speaker 1: they're just like a bunch of fans. When they get
- 6:12Speaker 1: frustrated and disappointed, they put pressure on the athletic directors
- 6:15Speaker 1: to take action.
- 6:17Speaker 3: It's the way of the world.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Mariners catcher Cal Rawley says the season didn't ended like
- 6:27Speaker 1: he thought it would. Don't blame Raleigh. Raleigh hit a
- 6:34Speaker 1: home run last night and gave the Mariners a three
- 6:37Speaker 1: to one lead in the fifth inning, but they manage
- 6:42Speaker 1: their way out of that with their closer not warmed
- 6:47Speaker 1: up in the bullpen. George Springer hit a three run
- 6:52Speaker 1: Springer Dinger in the bottom of the seventh to give
- 6:56Speaker 1: the Toronto Blue Jays the alcs and a chance to
- 7:00Speaker 1: play the Dodgers in the World Series that will begin
- 7:04Speaker 1: on Friday evening. The Angels are hiring special assistant Kurt
- 7:09Speaker 1: Suzuki as the team's next manager. Suzuki spent the last
- 7:13Speaker 1: three years as a special assistant to the GM Suzuki,
- 7:18Speaker 1: replacing Ron Washington, who was fired at the end of
- 7:21Speaker 1: the regular season. There were reports that owner Artie Moreno
- 7:26Speaker 1: was targeting Albert Puholz, who did interview.
- 7:29Speaker 3: For the position.
- 7:33Speaker 1: The forty two year old former player will return to
- 7:37Speaker 1: a team that hasn't made the playoffs in eleven years.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Six time Super Bowl winning head coach Bill Belichick advanced
- 7:47Speaker 1: to the final twelve coaches for the twenty twenty six
- 7:50Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. Tom Coughlin, Mike Shanahan, George Seffert, Mike Holmgren,
- 7:57Speaker 1: Bill Arnsberger, Alex Gibbs, Chuck Knox, but He Parker, Dan Reeves,
- 8:02Speaker 1: Marty Schottenheimer, Clark Shaughnessy. A Blue Ribbon committee will review
- 8:07Speaker 1: reduce the field to nine semi finalists and eventually down
- 8:12Speaker 1: to one home Grin earned the last spot last year,
- 8:16Speaker 1: but fell short in the final vote. I'm not sure
- 8:19Speaker 1: why Dan Reeves is not already in the Hall of Fame.
- 8:23Speaker 1: That kind of surprises me. But hey, that's just me
- 8:29Speaker 1: and Dallas Stars back at home. They're hosting the Columbus
- 8:34Speaker 1: Bluejackets tonight. The Stars are three and two in the
- 8:37Speaker 1: early part.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Of the season.
- 8:39Speaker 1: All Right, when we come back, we're going to try
- 8:42Speaker 1: to give something away. Well, we are going to give
- 8:44Speaker 1: something away. Whether the person takes it or not, that's
- 8:47Speaker 1: a whole other issue. The final lap is brought to
- 8:50Speaker 1: you by Nco Insurance.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Enco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 8:57Speaker 5: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While
- 9:00Speaker 5: our name has changed, we're still the same local team
- 9:03Speaker 5: you know and trust, now with even more to offer
- 9:05Speaker 5: from business insurance to personal protection and employee benefits. We're
- 9:09Speaker 5: still committed to protecting what matters most with the personalized
- 9:12Speaker 5: service you expect now with the strength of Hub International
- 9:15Speaker 5: behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team and
- 9:19Speaker 5: co Insurance a Hub International company, so you're ready for tomorrow.
- 9:25Speaker 6: NASCAR Exfinity Series race recap from Talladega Superspeedway.
- 9:28Speaker 4: I'm Kerrie Murphy.
- 9:30Speaker 6: Austin Hill led forty eight of the one hundred laps
- 9:32Speaker 6: on the day to capture the checkered flag.
- 9:34Speaker 7: I had just as much to lose as they did.
- 9:37Speaker 7: The owner championship pays more than the driver's championship does,
- 9:40Speaker 7: so to me, it seems like the owners Championship should
- 9:42Speaker 7: probably get a little more props for if you was
- 9:45Speaker 7: to win that, right, I thought it was a little
- 9:47Speaker 7: easier to make it go single file like it was
- 9:49Speaker 7: there at the end of the race where we were
- 9:50Speaker 7: able to go single file there and we were all
- 9:52Speaker 7: ripping top.
- 9:53Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 9:54Speaker 7: I mean I was viewing it as I was one
- 9:56Speaker 7: of the drivers in the final eight, and that's just
- 9:59Speaker 7: how I rased everyone. Raced everyone extremely hard and made
- 10:02Speaker 7: a lot of big moves, but thought I had raised
- 10:04Speaker 7: everyone with a lot of respect and just did everything
- 10:06Speaker 7: that we needed to do tonight with our Minis Chevrolet
- 10:08Speaker 7: to get the job done. And that was the thing.
- 10:10Speaker 7: Right after the Rover and when we had our issue
- 10:12Speaker 7: and we got knocked out and all those things that
- 10:14Speaker 7: happened going into Vegas, you know, our mindset was, we're
- 10:17Speaker 7: still racing for a championship. We're racing for an owner championship,
- 10:20Speaker 7: something that I wanted or want to bring to UH
- 10:23Speaker 7: Richard Childers and everybody at our cr ECR and now
- 10:27Speaker 7: we get to go try to do that.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Let's see here.
- 10:29Speaker 6: Carson Quopple was second, followed by Justin Olgeyer, Christian Ekes
- 10:33Speaker 6: and Caesar Baccarella rounds out the top five. Locked into
- 10:37Speaker 6: the championship for our Connor Zilich and Justin Olgeier, with
- 10:40Speaker 6: Jesse Love and Carson Quopple currently in on points. Up
- 10:44Speaker 6: next to the NASCAR Accynity Series is Martinsville Speedway Saturday,

- 12:25Speaker 13: I'm fine? Thank you?
- 12:27Speaker 3: Joseph.
- 12:28Speaker 1: You're you're about to run away with this whole contest.
- 12:31Speaker 13: Hey, I've been playing for several years. I'm hoping to
- 12:35Speaker 13: get my name on that cuff.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Have you been close before.
- 12:39Speaker 13: A little bit? Not as close as I am.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Now, what's your secret? Joseph? What is your secret?
- 12:46Speaker 13: A little luck?

- 13:12Speaker 3: So how many changes did you make this last week?
- 13:14Speaker 3: Do you remember?
- 13:16Speaker 13: I think I'll make two? Which was the clemstone after
- 13:21Speaker 13: I heard that the quarterback.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yep.
- 13:23Speaker 13: And let's see what other one was. Oh yeah, let's

- 14:34Speaker 1: forty nine Ers, Texans, Cowboys, Broncos. Those ten games I've
- 14:40Speaker 1: already picked mine. None of them look good to me
- 14:41Speaker 1: at all. I may have to go back like Joseph
- 14:43Speaker 1: did and redo a couple of them. I wish I
- 14:45Speaker 1: would have redone a couple this last week. Anyway, Friday's
- 14:49Speaker 1: Fearless Football Forecast Contest you have until now and five
- 14:53Speaker 1: o'clock Friday is your picking dead line. Now in five
- 14:57Speaker 1: o'clock Friday. Friday'sperdless Football four Past contest. A division in
- 15:01Speaker 1: Sports Talk America's Most Love football picking contest is Brontivice
- 15:07Speaker 1: Werdmon Floring and Chad Jones Law. Coming up, we're going
- 15:14Speaker 1: to be visiting with author Dan Beck and his book
- 15:17Speaker 1: on Michael Jackson. You've got Michael living through History. But
- 15:24Speaker 1: right now we want to hear from LSU football coach
- 15:28Speaker 1: Brian Kelly.
- 15:30Speaker 14: We have a great opportunity this weekend in Tiger Stadium.
- 15:34Speaker 14: You know to play the number three team in the country.
- 15:38Speaker 14: That's exciting, and we believe the way we're moving, if
- 15:42Speaker 14: we continue to get better on both sides of the ball,
- 15:47Speaker 14: we're prepared.
- 15:47Speaker 15: To win the game. We believe we can win the game.
- 15:50Speaker 14: So you know, I hope our fan base understands that
- 15:55Speaker 14: we're disappointed.
- 15:58Speaker 15: We are committed to.
- 16:00Speaker 14: Working to getting better every single day, and we're excited
- 16:03Speaker 14: about a great matchup this weekend in Tiger Stadium. Certainly
- 16:08Speaker 14: a and M outstanding football team.
- 16:12Speaker 13: You know, when you.
- 16:13Speaker 14: Look at them, you know they're they're defensively, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 14: they've got some outstanding players. You know, the courter, the linebacker,
- 16:24Speaker 14: York is outstanding. I love them last year twenty one.
- 16:27Speaker 14: He's all over the field, instinct of how leads the
- 16:30Speaker 14: sec in sacks.
- 16:31Speaker 15: He's somebody that you have to.
- 16:33Speaker 14: Know where he is all the time, uh and appropriately
- 16:38Speaker 14: plan for him. You know, Offensively, Marcel Reid is doing
- 16:42Speaker 14: an incredible job at the quarterback position taking that over.
- 16:45Speaker 14: They've got outstanding backs and Owens and Moss and and
- 16:49Speaker 14: very deep and talented with craver and conception, outstanding receivers
- 16:54Speaker 14: that can do a lot of things with the ball
- 16:55Speaker 14: as well.
- 16:56Speaker 15: So very talented team.
- 16:58Speaker 14: I think it would be one of the better offsive minds,
- 17:00Speaker 14: if not the best offensive line we're going to see
- 17:02Speaker 14: this year. But I think overall, you know, our team
- 17:07Speaker 14: is excited about this opportunity and we're gonna we're gonna
- 17:11Speaker 14: play well, and we're gonna need to to beat the
- 17:13Speaker 14: number three team in the country.
- 17:15Speaker 15: So with that will open up the questions.
- 17:19Speaker 16: Coach, you've talked about just the lack of execution in
- 17:22Speaker 16: those goal line situations. Do you feel like, after going
- 17:25Speaker 16: back and watching the film, this is an execution thing
- 17:27Speaker 16: or is it more of a mentality slash attitude when
- 17:29Speaker 16: you get inside the five yards?
- 17:31Speaker 14: Well, which one do you want me to bring up?
- 17:32Speaker 14: I can bring up the one where we we we
- 17:35Speaker 14: we have a false start penalty, you know, or we
- 17:38Speaker 14: have a wide open touchdown. You know that's we've seen
- 17:43Speaker 14: that happen so many times in this game. Unfortunately, it
- 17:45Speaker 14: was a timely error in that situation. You know that
- 17:49Speaker 14: that caused us cost us four points in that situation, right.
- 17:55Speaker 14: I think in each one of them is a little
- 17:58Speaker 14: bit different. I think if we had to impact you know,
- 18:03Speaker 14: another third down situation where it was.
- 18:07Speaker 15: All out blitz that.
- 18:09Speaker 14: You know, we could have certainly tapped down the routes
- 18:13Speaker 14: and gotten the ball out a little bit quicker. But
- 18:16Speaker 14: there's no major issues as much as at that time,
- 18:20Speaker 14: at that crucial time with forty nine plays, they're magnified
- 18:24Speaker 14: if there's any errors at all at all. And that's
- 18:28Speaker 14: what this game came down to, and I mentioned it
- 18:30Speaker 14: many times. It's like playing a triple option team. You
- 18:32Speaker 14: don't get many possessions. We had five possessions going into
- 18:35Speaker 14: the fourth quarter, and so when you have limited possessions,
- 18:40Speaker 14: those errors are magnified by ten.
- 18:46Speaker 15: Coach.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I've heard some former players and others say there's a
- 18:48Speaker 1: lack of physicality on this football team, in particularly on
- 18:51Speaker 1: the offensive side of the ball.
- 18:52Speaker 15: Are you seeing that? Well, I think we need to
- 18:55Speaker 15: be more physical.
- 18:56Speaker 14: I think there's always the need for physicality, right you play.
- 19:00Speaker 14: This game really is about.
- 19:05Speaker 15: Who you are.
- 19:05Speaker 14: You know, football is a game of violent collisions, and
- 19:10Speaker 14: certainly from an offensive line standpoint, you know everybody's going
- 19:14Speaker 14: to look towards the physicality there on the offensive line.
- 19:18Speaker 14: Those are the best five guys we got out there.
- 19:20Speaker 14: If we had, you know, another group, we would certainly
- 19:24Speaker 14: play them as well. So I listen, everybody you know
- 19:27Speaker 14: is going to look at this and has their opinions,
- 19:30Speaker 14: and I respect everybody's opinion. But there's no doubt that
- 19:35Speaker 14: anytime you evaluate your football team, the first thing you're
- 19:38Speaker 14: going to look for is physicality.
- 19:42Speaker 17: Coach, you mentioned Indiana being number two, Vanderbilty being number ten.
- 19:46Speaker 17: Does that really go to show how much anil in
- 19:48Speaker 17: the portal really opens up opportunities for schools that usually
- 19:52Speaker 17: aren't in those positions to get into those positions.
- 19:55Speaker 14: Well, Texas Tech, right, I mean they had a tough loss,
- 19:57Speaker 14: but they were a top ten team as well. Look,
- 20:00Speaker 14: I don't think that I'm saying anything that's different than
- 20:03Speaker 14: what's being talked about throughout the country. Look, it's a
- 20:06Speaker 14: competitive scenario each and every week.
- 20:09Speaker 15: Look at the SEC last.
- 20:10Speaker 14: Week with any blowouts, I mean I don't know that
- 20:13Speaker 14: there were. I mean Texas and Kentucky went to overtime.
- 20:18Speaker 14: You know, Arkansas put up over forty points. Georgia Ole
- 20:25Speaker 14: Miss was a track meet. You know, Auburn I think
- 20:29Speaker 14: goes to overtime as well. I mean it's a tough week.
- 20:32Speaker 14: It's competitive each and every week. There's no layups. And
- 20:36Speaker 14: so why is that, Well, there's an investment and that
- 20:40Speaker 14: investment piece is revenue sharing, and so you.
- 20:43Speaker 15: Can build your roster through that.
- 20:46Speaker 14: It's not just about why I want to go where
- 20:48Speaker 14: the team always wins or that's got a great tradition.
- 20:51Speaker 14: Teams that are building their tradition are building it with
- 20:55Speaker 14: you know, certainly the ability to help their student athletes
- 20:58Speaker 14: as well. So that's part of it. But you know, still,
- 21:01Speaker 14: player development is important. Getting better each and every week
- 21:04Speaker 14: and having the best version of your football team is
- 21:06Speaker 14: important as well. It's I wouldn't stand up here and say, hey,
- 21:10Speaker 14: you know, all these teams are good because they got money.
- 21:12Speaker 14: That's that's disingenuous, right, But it does play into it, There's.
- 21:17Speaker 15: No doubt about it. And I think we see that
- 21:19Speaker 15: within the SEC.
- 21:22Speaker 17: Coach from a self evaluation standpoint, What do you think
- 21:26Speaker 17: the one thing or the first thing is that needs
- 21:28Speaker 17: to be addressed or fixed to kind of get this
- 21:29Speaker 17: thing turned around and win on Saturday and also moving.
- 21:31Speaker 15: Forward, Well, I think we've been doing it.
- 21:34Speaker 14: I mean, look, we want positive outcomes just like our
- 21:36Speaker 14: fan base once, right, but our last nine quarters of
- 21:40Speaker 14: offense have been trending to where we need to be right.
- 21:43Speaker 14: We're running the football with effectiveness, you know, we're targeting
- 21:47Speaker 14: the receivers that need to We got to get Aaron
- 21:49Speaker 14: Anderson probably evolved.
- 21:50Speaker 15: A little bit more now that he's healthy. He's a
- 21:53Speaker 15: big play guy.
- 21:54Speaker 14: And then defensively, we need to continue to play like
- 21:57Speaker 14: we have played in the first half, and if we
- 22:00Speaker 14: do that, we get both sides of the ball playing
- 22:02Speaker 14: complimentary football. I think I've said it more than once
- 22:05Speaker 14: that we haven't played that complimentary football where both sides
- 22:08Speaker 14: are hitting on all cylinders.
- 22:10Speaker 15: We just haven't hit that point yet.
- 22:12Speaker 14: So we'll continue to prepare our football team work on
- 22:16Speaker 14: the things that can help us get to that level.
- 22:20Speaker 14: And it's an ongoing process that you know when every
- 22:23Speaker 14: day is a self evaluation of what I'm doing, what
- 22:26Speaker 14: our players are doing, what our coaches are doing, and
- 22:30Speaker 14: we're taking all those hours to make sure we do that.
- 22:35Speaker 18: Can you confirm multiple reports that Tyree Adams will be
- 22:38Speaker 18: out for this week and if so, what do you
- 22:39Speaker 18: do at left tackle?
- 22:40Speaker 14: Yeah, he'll be out this week. DJ Chester will be
- 22:44Speaker 14: over there. He's our most experienced guy. You know, we'll
- 22:49Speaker 14: give carriers currents, some reps out there. As well, and
- 22:51Speaker 14: see how that goes during the week.
- 22:55Speaker 15: Coach on how y'all track everything? We don't come out
- 22:59Speaker 15: of ten time out? Do you know what your success
- 23:01Speaker 15: rate is on that next play? No, we don't track that.
- 23:04Speaker 14: Okay, if you have it, I'll take the numbers.
- 23:12Speaker 15: Okay.
- 23:14Speaker 14: I just I don't have that analytic And it's something
- 23:17Speaker 14: that I'm sure that if I ask our guys to
- 23:20Speaker 14: dig deep, I can get you the answer.
- 23:24Speaker 15: Coach.
- 23:24Speaker 18: Right, while we're on the injuries with weeks Bernard Good
- 23:28Speaker 18: and Jami Butler, how are they doing and what do
- 23:30Speaker 18: you think they're status is?
- 23:30Speaker 14: I think when we present our report, I think you'll
- 23:35Speaker 14: get a clearer look at that. And I think that
- 23:39Speaker 14: goes out tomorrow Wednesday, So we'll get a better report
- 23:42Speaker 14: on that on Wednesday.
- 23:43Speaker 18: And we noticed we haven't seen ash And Stamps or
- 23:46Speaker 18: Jardan Gilbert on the field in quite quite a while.
- 23:49Speaker 15: Is there anything going on with either?
- 23:52Speaker 14: Well, we're trying to protect them, both of them. They
- 23:56Speaker 14: both have played in three games, so if we can
- 23:59Speaker 14: and fact protect their year, we would try to. This
- 24:03Speaker 14: would be a week where they could play their fourth
- 24:05Speaker 14: game and still, you know, maintain eligibility.
- 24:12Speaker 19: Brian, you've talked about the fewer plays that you have.
- 24:16Speaker 15: There's obviously a thin.
- 24:17Speaker 19: Margin for error with this team on the triffence how
- 24:21Speaker 19: much I guess then?
- 24:22Speaker 20: Do you?
- 24:23Speaker 19: Does it become important for you to really strip down
- 24:26Speaker 19: what you're doing, who's calling it? The installation of those
- 24:29Speaker 19: plays from the top down? Is that something that would
- 24:33Speaker 19: benefit a team like this?
- 24:34Speaker 15: Yeah, we started doing that about three weeks ago. I think.
- 24:40Speaker 14: I think right after the Old Miss game, you know,
- 24:43Speaker 14: I talked to coach Sloan and said, and Coach Hankton, look,
- 24:47Speaker 14: we need to shorten this inventory and be better at
- 24:52Speaker 14: the things that have been highly efficient force.
- 24:57Speaker 15: So I think we went.
- 24:58Speaker 14: Into that process about three weeks to go through the
- 25:01Speaker 14: bye week, and I think it's proved to be effective
- 25:03Speaker 14: for us. So yeah, I would agree with you, and
- 25:06Speaker 14: I think we've shown that, you know, offensively, that that's
- 25:09Speaker 14: where we're heading.
- 25:12Speaker 18: There hasn't been a two loss SEC champion since I
- 25:15Speaker 18: think LSU and O seven.
- 25:17Speaker 15: Did your conversation about goals.
- 25:18Speaker 18: For your team change now you've got your second conference loss?
- 25:22Speaker 21: No?
- 25:23Speaker 14: No, what we've talked about is the excitement of this
- 25:25Speaker 14: opportunity that we have this week to go one and oh,
- 25:28Speaker 14: and that one and oh is against the number three
- 25:30Speaker 14: ranked team in the country. So look, this is about
- 25:33Speaker 14: the history and tradition of LSU football. You get these
- 25:35Speaker 14: matchups at home, they're they're they're exciting, and we're looking
- 25:41Speaker 14: forward to just the focus on playing our best when
- 25:46Speaker 14: our best is needed against a great opponent.
- 25:48Speaker 15: In A and M in Tiger Stadium.
- 25:52Speaker 18: Coach Charlon Berry had a good game, kind of season
- 25:55Speaker 18: high and carries and yards, everything like that.
- 25:57Speaker 15: What have you seen from him from a development standpoint
- 25:59Speaker 15: through this.
- 25:59Speaker 14: Fresh Yeah, I think he's coming along the way freshman,
- 26:03Speaker 14: a true freshman to come along. I think he's earned
- 26:06Speaker 14: more and more trust as the season has gone on.
- 26:09Speaker 14: He has had more carries, has been involved in past situations,
- 26:13Speaker 14: pass protection, has done a nice job there.
- 26:16Speaker 15: So I think he's right on track.
- 26:18Speaker 14: In terms of where he's going and influencing the football
- 26:22Speaker 14: game as he did this past Saturday.
- 26:26Speaker 1: That's Brian Kelly with the local media yesterday in Baton Rouge.
- 26:31Speaker 3: The numbers are.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Amazing in this series when you start looking. First of all,
- 26:38Speaker 1: we think this is the first time A and M
- 26:40Speaker 1: goes to Baton Rouge as a favorite since nineteen ninety four,
- 26:45Speaker 1: which is the last time that they won in Baton Rouge.
- 26:49Speaker 1: But those numbers are a little skewed because LSU ended
- 26:54Speaker 1: the series with A and M went into the Big twelve.
- 26:58Speaker 1: It gave him an excuse to do so because A
- 27:00Speaker 1: and M won five or six games in a row
- 27:02Speaker 1: in that series. You remember that for like forty two years,
- 27:09Speaker 1: every time A and M played LSU, it was in
- 27:12Speaker 1: Baton Rouge, so that excus the numbers a little bit
- 27:19Speaker 1: as well. Now the aggis first win against LSU in
- 27:26Speaker 1: the SEC was the seven overtime game in twenty eighteen.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Since then, the home team has won every game. LSU
- 27:41Speaker 1: had won six straight SEC games starting with the first
- 27:45Speaker 1: game in twenty twelve, but with the seven overtime game
- 27:51Speaker 1: that flipped thanks to home and home, and it's been
- 27:54Speaker 1: home and home since twenty eighteen.
- 27:59Speaker 3: It's it's been.
- 28:03Speaker 1: The way you would think a series like this would
- 28:09Speaker 1: supposed to would be, you know, supposed to go overall
- 28:14Speaker 1: twenty one, thirty five, and three. But again, a lot
- 28:22Speaker 1: of those losses came in Baton Rouge when that's the
- 28:26Speaker 1: only place they were playing. A and M lost in
- 28:34Speaker 1: thirteen fifteen seventeen, nineteen, twenty one, twenty three, and it
- 28:44Speaker 1: has been a minute since the Aggies went to Baton.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Rouge and won a football game. There have been other years.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Going in there was confidence that that could happen, but
- 28:55Speaker 1: it had not happened.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Weird things have happened.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Max Johnson hitting that corner route at the end of
- 29:06Speaker 1: the game that was in twenty one. I believe that
- 29:11Speaker 1: was crazy. Yeah, twenty seven to twenty four was the
- 29:17Speaker 1: final there. So strange things have tended to happen there.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Strange things have tended to happen at night there. It
- 29:25Speaker 1: is a hard place to play, and this team is
- 29:31Speaker 1: as equipped as any that has gone down there I
- 29:34Speaker 1: think to play. LSU's obviously not as good as they
- 29:39Speaker 1: have been, especially offensively, but they have a quarterback that
- 29:45Speaker 1: I still think is going to play at the next level.
- 29:48Speaker 1: They have a defense that has been very good that
- 29:51Speaker 1: if they get a little bit of help, can be dangerous.
- 29:55Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens Saturday night. In Death Valley,

- 33:02Speaker 21: Welcome to the High School Report. I met Leaves and
- 33:04Speaker 21: today we're going out to the players fin Center phone
- 33:06Speaker 21: line to visit with the head volleyball coach for the
- 33:08Speaker 21: Madisonville Mustangs, Carly Dice.
- 33:10Speaker 3: How are you doing today?
- 33:11Speaker 8: Good?
- 33:11Speaker 12: How about yourself?
- 33:12Speaker 3: I'm doing very good?
- 33:13Speaker 21: Thank you so much for asking. Last season, your team
- 33:16Speaker 21: went thirty seven and nine overall and was undefeated ten
- 33:19Speaker 21: and zero in districts play. What factors do you think
- 33:21Speaker 21: contributed most to that success and how did that lend
- 33:24Speaker 21: to what you expected this season?
- 33:27Speaker 8: I mean, last year we were very experienced, We had
- 33:30Speaker 8: our offense was very well ryan. We had a senior
- 33:33Speaker 8: setter last year who was one of our captains. She
- 33:37Speaker 8: led our team. She took on that role. The girls
- 33:41Speaker 8: had finally just bought in. I mean since day one,
- 33:43Speaker 8: since I'd gotten here, they just finally bought into what
- 33:46Speaker 8: we were trying to do, and they understood the assignment
- 33:48Speaker 8: and just rolled with it. I mean they worked hard
- 33:51Speaker 8: day in and day out, and I feel like in
- 33:54Speaker 8: the long run, they realized that what I was telling
- 33:56Speaker 8: them to do was going to pay off, and they
- 33:58Speaker 8: would execute.
- 34:00Speaker 21: This season, Madisonville's non district strengths the strength of the
- 34:05Speaker 21: schedule and non district was more challenging. You guys had
- 34:08Speaker 21: stronger opponents and more away matches. How did you plan
- 34:11Speaker 21: non district matches to best prepare for district?
- 34:14Speaker 8: You know, after last season, I know in round three,
- 34:18Speaker 8: once we hit district play, we have one or two
- 34:21Speaker 8: opponents that you know, are really competitive, but we have
- 34:24Speaker 8: to have a tough preseason in order to prepare us
- 34:26Speaker 8: for the postseason. And after last season's game, after our
- 34:31Speaker 8: our loss against Gateway, I knew that we had district
- 34:34Speaker 8: in our preseason schedule. Somehow, some way. We did have
- 34:38Speaker 8: a lot of home games last year, so I knew
- 34:40Speaker 8: that was going to put us on the road some
- 34:42Speaker 8: this year. But honestly, I think our girls play a
- 34:45Speaker 8: little bit better on the road than we do at home,
- 34:48Speaker 8: So that that can always be a positive because a
- 34:50Speaker 8: lot of teams, a lot of times they may not,
- 34:52Speaker 8: but I think our girls play better on the road.
- 34:55Speaker 8: I knew that we needed to strengthen that so that
- 34:57Speaker 8: in the postseason that we had already seen some of
- 34:59Speaker 8: those and I and I think the girls have adjusted
- 35:03Speaker 8: very well. They and from day one, like I said,
- 35:05Speaker 8: they they've come in and they've taken care of business.
- 35:07Speaker 8: We've had, you know, to fill a couple of crucial
- 35:10Speaker 8: spots on our offensive side of the ball and and
- 35:13Speaker 8: I think they've done just that.
- 35:15Speaker 21: Yeah, and you talked a little bit about this who
- 35:18Speaker 21: graduated last year that left pretty big shoes to fill,
- 35:21Speaker 21: and how is your current roster stepped up to fill
- 35:23Speaker 21: those shoes?
- 35:24Speaker 8: Absolutely. We have a senior named Curly Williamson. She was
- 35:27Speaker 8: a four year varsity player. She set last year for me.
- 35:31Speaker 8: We ran a five to one with her really the
- 35:33Speaker 8: past two seasons with her. She's now playing at Temple College.
- 35:38Speaker 8: And we knew when she left that it was going
- 35:40Speaker 8: to be big shoes to fill. And now I have
- 35:43Speaker 8: actually from the time that she left, I'd had a
- 35:45Speaker 8: conversation with junior now junior number five, Presley Ringo, and
- 35:50Speaker 8: told her that she was it was her, that that
- 35:52Speaker 8: was her spot, that was her time to lead her team.
- 35:55Speaker 8: And I think she has honestly stepped into that role
- 35:58Speaker 8: very good. I know when Curly graduated last year, some
- 36:01Speaker 8: of the kids around the school were saying, you know,
- 36:03Speaker 8: kind of messing with the girls a little bit, like, oh, well,
- 36:05Speaker 8: Carly's graduating and you all aren't going to be near as good,
- 36:08Speaker 8: you know, da da da, kind of things like that.
- 36:10Speaker 8: And I think Presley and the girls kind of took
- 36:12Speaker 8: that as they took it to heart. And Presley's done
- 36:15Speaker 8: a very good job of stepping in and working her
- 36:18Speaker 8: tail off day in and day out to fill that role.
- 36:20Speaker 8: And she's done just that and her teammates are acknowledging
- 36:24Speaker 8: that as well.
- 36:25Speaker 21: That's awesome. And given the changes in your team, how
- 36:28Speaker 21: is this year's team's identity different from last year's where
- 36:30Speaker 21: there it just be culture like style of play.
- 36:34Speaker 8: You know. I think at the end of the day,
- 36:36Speaker 8: the culture hasn't changed. Our expectations are still the same.
- 36:39Speaker 8: I think they they come in and they work hard,
- 36:42Speaker 8: and they have this grit and this determination that it's
- 36:46Speaker 8: just kind of unmatchable at times. And when they set
- 36:49Speaker 8: their mind to something that they can do it, they're
- 36:51Speaker 8: gonna be able to do it. And they come in
- 36:53Speaker 8: and and we you know, we game plan, we watched
- 36:56Speaker 8: film and we have I think I think they've had
- 36:59Speaker 8: to let me see, if I can word this straight way.
- 37:04Speaker 8: There's then other people that have kind of more of
- 37:05Speaker 8: been quiet leaders that if I kind of step into
- 37:08Speaker 8: roles that they've had to step up to be a
- 37:10Speaker 8: little bit more vocal, and we've had to rely on
- 37:12Speaker 8: a couple more people. But I think everybody for the
- 37:15Speaker 8: most part has stepped into those roles and done a
- 37:16Speaker 8: great job on that aspect.
- 37:18Speaker 21: That's great. And on the court, what is this year's
- 37:21Speaker 21: team's biggest strengths and weaknesses?
- 37:24Speaker 8: You know, I feel like our defense is probably one
- 37:26Speaker 8: of our biggest strengths. We have a pretty solid defense.
- 37:30Speaker 8: I have a senior lovererro Jillian Hardy, and senior defensive
- 37:34Speaker 8: specialists Mollie Short. They hold down our defense for us.
- 37:38Speaker 8: They're laying their bodies out for every single ball serviceive.
- 37:42Speaker 8: Our service EVE is decent, but like I said, they're
- 37:46Speaker 8: the girls are always looking to improve. I feel like,
- 37:49Speaker 8: you know, we're strong offensively too. I mean, I feel
- 37:51Speaker 8: like all the way around where there's I don't really
- 37:53Speaker 8: feel like we have just a weak spot, and that's
- 37:57Speaker 8: kind of you know, moving into this year, I've had
- 37:59Speaker 8: you know, I feel like we were going to kind
- 38:00Speaker 8: of struggle at first, But I mean the girls have
- 38:01Speaker 8: just I mean they accept in and and accepted roles
- 38:04Speaker 8: that they knew they were going to have to fill,
- 38:08Speaker 8: and I think they've done a great job on that.
- 38:10Speaker 8: So I mean, I would say probably our defense is
- 38:12Speaker 8: probably our strength. You know, blocking. We have two medals
- 38:15Speaker 8: that are strong blockers, big blockers, and we can get
- 38:18Speaker 8: them involved and good things happened for us.
- 38:21Speaker 15: That's great.
- 38:22Speaker 21: And which teams this year so far have you struggled
- 38:24Speaker 21: against the most and what have you learned from those
- 38:28Speaker 21: matchups that you've brought into future games.
- 38:31Speaker 8: You know, we played some tough opponents early on. We
- 38:34Speaker 8: started in the New Way Really tournament and played a good,
- 38:38Speaker 8: solid IOLA team. We lost to them to you know,
- 38:40Speaker 8: twice early on. One time the first game was O
- 38:43Speaker 8: two and then we lost to one. It's just kind
- 38:46Speaker 8: of a mentality thing that we've you know with them,
- 38:49Speaker 8: I mean that we know they're always going to be solid.
- 38:52Speaker 8: And then we traveled to we traveled to White Oak
- 38:55Speaker 8: for a tournament kind of see some other four A
- 38:57Speaker 8: teams that were good. We'd be Central Hides, that's you know,
- 39:01Speaker 8: top ten ranked teams, State runner up last year we
- 39:07Speaker 8: played you know, six we played a couple of six
- 39:08Speaker 8: A's roy City we competed with, and that was hopeful.
- 39:12Speaker 8: I mean, I don't feel like there's any game that
- 39:14Speaker 8: we just kind of struggled against as far as like
- 39:16Speaker 8: playing teams that are just that much better than us.
- 39:19Speaker 8: I mean, like I said, our girls have just done
- 39:21Speaker 8: a really good job of holding their own and and
- 39:23Speaker 8: rise into the challenge.
- 39:25Speaker 21: Yeah, you eat Palestine on Tuesday in a close game.
- 39:28Speaker 21: What went well and where do you think your team
- 39:30Speaker 21: could have done better? And also is there anyone you'd
- 39:32Speaker 21: like to highlight that you think surprise you or is
- 39:35Speaker 21: worth noting from that game?
- 39:37Speaker 8: Yeah, So Tuday and night was was was an absolutely
- 39:41Speaker 8: insane game. I still feel like my journal and has
- 39:44Speaker 8: been going all day from that game. You know, we
- 39:46Speaker 8: go in and it's always tough for us to play
- 39:48Speaker 8: in Palestine. The atmosphere fair and Palistine is always just
- 39:51Speaker 8: it's different, you know. And they're a well coached team
- 39:54Speaker 8: and they're gonna come to play, and they did just
- 39:57Speaker 8: that last night. They game playing against us very we well,
- 40:01Speaker 8: we're down O two and going into the third set,
- 40:05Speaker 8: you know, came in for the reverse sleeve last night,
- 40:07Speaker 8: and I think, you know, there was a lot of
- 40:08Speaker 8: things last night that the girls had to overcome. There's
- 40:11Speaker 8: a lot of adversity, a lot of things that were
- 40:13Speaker 8: against them, but that kind of drove them. There was
- 40:18Speaker 8: a ton of grit in the termination and it took
- 40:20Speaker 8: all twelve on the roster all the way down last night.
- 40:23Speaker 8: And you know, I think that kind of opened their
- 40:26Speaker 8: eyes too, that when when they set their mind to
- 40:28Speaker 8: something that they can do it, they didn't let down.
- 40:31Speaker 8: They could have easily shut down, but you know, set three,
- 40:33Speaker 8: we we'd come back and take care of business. That
- 40:36Speaker 8: four was a close one and then we finished off
- 40:38Speaker 8: pretty strong. And Set five, I would say Brianna Coleman
- 40:43Speaker 8: is number one. She's a junior DS for us. She's
- 40:48Speaker 8: not normally one of our starters, but she stays ready.
- 40:51Speaker 8: When her name is called, she comes in. And last
- 40:53Speaker 8: night was one of those nights we had to change
- 40:55Speaker 8: n one to five to one, which put her in
- 40:58Speaker 8: the game and she came in and lights out, you know,
- 41:02Speaker 8: and ruby right in one of our middles. Once she
- 41:05Speaker 8: finally started swinging, she was she was she was hot.
- 41:08Speaker 8: So I think those two, those two key components and
- 41:11Speaker 8: and again, like I said, Presley Ringo is just running
- 41:14Speaker 8: our offense so solid and being the leader that we
- 41:18Speaker 8: need for this team.
- 41:19Speaker 21: Yeah, what are you expecting against Rusk this Friday? How
- 41:23Speaker 21: do you think your teams will clash? And how are
- 41:25Speaker 21: you using your last matchup to prepare for this one?
- 41:28Speaker 8: You know, like I told the girls last night, like
- 41:31Speaker 8: it's going to take all twelve of us from here
- 41:33Speaker 8: on out, and it's got to be all twelve of
- 41:35Speaker 8: us every single game. I think last night was a
- 41:38Speaker 8: good was good momentum for us to take into Friday
- 41:42Speaker 8: on the road. It's never anything. I mean, anybody in
- 41:44Speaker 8: our district is not just somebody we got to overlook.
- 41:46Speaker 8: I mean, I think there's some things that we'll we'll
- 41:49Speaker 8: touch on and film sessions this week and and just
- 41:53Speaker 8: move right on. And I think we're going to carry
- 41:54Speaker 8: that energy into Friday, which I think is going to
- 41:56Speaker 8: help us.
- 41:58Speaker 21: And last two questions here kind of from a coaching perspective,
- 42:01Speaker 21: how do you as a coach respond to the evolution
- 42:03Speaker 21: of the game, whether it be like speed and athleticism
- 42:06Speaker 21: or even the removal of calling double contacts by officials.
- 42:09Speaker 21: How are you pushing your team alongside that evolution and
- 42:11Speaker 21: continuing to learn.
- 42:13Speaker 8: You know, I was kind of hesitant on that at
- 42:16Speaker 8: first as a coach, just because I was a setter
- 42:18Speaker 8: in high school myself, and I feel like they were
- 42:21Speaker 8: trying to take the art of setting away on that.
- 42:24Speaker 8: I feel like, you know, there's girls that work so
- 42:27Speaker 8: hard that have been just the natural ability with their hands,
- 42:31Speaker 8: and then there's girls that just don't. So I was
- 42:34Speaker 8: kind of worried about it a little bit at first,
- 42:35Speaker 8: and I feel like it's been as bad as I
- 42:37Speaker 8: thought it was going to be. And I feel like
- 42:40Speaker 8: it's kind of helped with us having to transition into
- 42:42Speaker 8: another setter, somebody that, like I said, Presley, who's never
- 42:45Speaker 8: set before. Yeah, she has pretty hands, But I feel
- 42:49Speaker 8: like kind OF's helped with a little bit of confidence
- 42:51Speaker 8: because she knows like, oh, if I do double here
- 42:53Speaker 8: or there, you know, it's it doesn't doesn't kind of
- 42:55Speaker 8: gets me. I mean, in the speed of the I
- 43:00Speaker 8: feel like we play better and in tight competitive matches
- 43:04Speaker 8: like high speed, fast paced games like that than we
- 43:08Speaker 8: do against slower No I won't say nonchalant, but it's
- 43:12Speaker 8: just slower pace games.
- 43:13Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 43:15Speaker 21: Okay, last question for you here, what do you want
- 43:18Speaker 21: for your program looking forward to the next three to
- 43:20Speaker 21: five years, and how to use a coach to find
- 43:22Speaker 21: success on and off the court.
- 43:25Speaker 8: You know, I think since they won this, you know,
- 43:28Speaker 8: this is your three here in Madisonville, and the expectation
- 43:30Speaker 8: has been it's extremely high. They know that, you know,
- 43:35Speaker 8: obviously it's to be at the top, and they've they've
- 43:38Speaker 8: bought into that. And I think the great and determination
- 43:40Speaker 8: that they show just day in and day out is
- 43:42Speaker 8: it's pretty incredible, you know. And the fact that I have,
- 43:46Speaker 8: you know, people that continue to to want to learn.
- 43:49Speaker 8: They're just so eager and what they want to do.
- 43:53Speaker 8: And I have a ton of kids that play club ball,
- 43:54Speaker 8: so they're playing year round and and not huge. I
- 43:58Speaker 8: think we just we have to stay involved in our
- 44:01Speaker 8: younger programs. We have a great little Figgers program that's
- 44:03Speaker 8: run here in Madisonville for starting in I think second grade,
- 44:09Speaker 8: second through fifth or sixth grade, and then you know,
- 44:12Speaker 8: being involved in your junior high program is crucial too,
- 44:14Speaker 8: I feel like. And so we do a good job
- 44:16Speaker 8: of data I feel like here and just those instilling
- 44:20Speaker 8: the culture and the expectations from a very young age
- 44:23Speaker 8: and getting them to know that the ultimate goal is
- 44:27Speaker 8: to be its top and nothing less.
- 44:30Speaker 15: Very well put.
- 44:30Speaker 21: Thank you so much for your time, mis dice, of course,
- 44:34Speaker 21: good luck this Friday.
- 44:36Speaker 8: Thank you, it's Ben.

- 46:30Speaker 28: The Houston Texans filled short last night twenty seven to
- 46:33Speaker 28: nineteen against Seattle, who regained their home field advantage. The
- 46:37Speaker 28: Seahawks got off to a hot start with two touchdown
- 46:39Speaker 28: drives in the first quarter, one of them only taking
- 46:42Speaker 28: five plays in just over two and a half minutes.
- 46:44Speaker 28: After forcing an interception in the second quarter, the Texan
- 46:47Speaker 28: offense finally got going, able to generate a pair of
- 46:50Speaker 28: field goals, making the score fourteen to six at the half.
- 46:53Speaker 3: The game term.
- 46:54Speaker 28: Slopping in the third chorus, both sides turned the ball over,
- 46:58Speaker 28: but for Seattle their fumble would be extra costly.
- 47:01Speaker 19: Feel it's been hard for this pass rush to get
- 47:03Speaker 19: at Darnold.
- 47:03Speaker 4: This time, he's got plenty.
- 47:04Speaker 26: Of time, runs out of it, looses the ball to
- 47:07Speaker 26: scravel and it's for cover to.
- 47:08Speaker 8: The end zone.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Touchdown Texans on the takeaway, it's Will Anderson.
- 47:13Speaker 28: The score would become seventeen to twelve there, but that's
- 47:16Speaker 28: as close as the Texans would get, as they were
- 47:18Speaker 28: unable to score again until there was just two minutes left.

- 49:23Speaker 1: History, DAN i don't think young people have any idea
- 49:29Speaker 1: of what the music business was like thirty five years,
- 49:33Speaker 1: ago but explain to them the importance of getting songs
- 49:38Speaker 1: on radio and then after that getting a video ON.
- 49:45Speaker 4: Tv, yeah there was no and by the, Way, chip
- 49:51Speaker 4: thanks for having. Me it's a it's a pleasure doing your.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Show and the you, know the city situation back then was,
- 50:01Speaker 4: that you, know there was no, internet you, know so
- 50:03Speaker 4: none of that. Existed so you, know really the path
- 50:07Speaker 4: to to the audience was through radio and you, know
- 50:11Speaker 4: and multi. Formats for an artist Like, michael it was pop,
- 50:15Speaker 4: radio it was the urban radio and even rock, radio
- 50:22Speaker 4: and so it was essential to get on the, radio
- 50:26Speaker 4: and so that you, know the the other, thing the
- 50:30Speaker 4: other things that, existed you, know is not only did
- 50:34Speaker 4: you need to get on the, radio but then you
- 50:36Speaker 4: needed to get the physical, product you, know, albums vinyl
- 50:41Speaker 4: CDs into the record stores at the same time you
- 50:44Speaker 4: had the radio. Airplay you. Know so it's a little
- 50:47Speaker 4: easier on a superstar Like Michael jackson because the retailers
- 50:52Speaker 4: were wide open for, it and you, know radio was
- 50:55Speaker 4: eager to to get a new hit from.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Him but there is always this Idea you've got to
- 51:02Speaker 1: keep him. Relevant you've got to you, know grow his.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Audience the audience has to. Expand it's got to be for.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Everybody that is not hard keeping and uh a performer
- 51:17Speaker 1: relevant year to, year is?
- 51:18Speaker 15: It?
- 51:20Speaker 4: Absolutely you, know that's one of the hardest. Things and,
- 51:22Speaker 4: eventually you, know you, know every veteran artist kind of
- 51:28Speaker 4: runs their course with particularly with pop radio and and
- 51:33Speaker 4: uh so you, know the the challenge is how long
- 51:37Speaker 4: can you keep them? There you? Know, Yeah and you,
- 51:41Speaker 4: know part of part of my role and product managing
- 51:44Speaker 4: and doing campaigns is working with veteran. Artists you, KNOW
- 51:49Speaker 4: i work With Luther vandros AND uh And shade And
- 51:53Speaker 4: Gloria estefan And Stey lamper and you, know and so
- 51:57Speaker 4: you know a great part of that was trying to
- 52:00Speaker 4: do the things that kept them relevant so that radio
- 52:05Speaker 4: was more inclined, to you, know to determine that they
- 52:11Speaker 4: still were at the top of their.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Game THEN mtv comes along AND i had no.
- 52:17Speaker 1: Idea you talked about the video produced With Michael jordan
- 52:23Speaker 1: for four hundred thousand dollars, correct.
- 52:27Speaker 4: That's, right, yes and that was a. Bargain and that's
- 52:30Speaker 4: a lot of. Money, yes it's a lot of. Money you,
- 52:35Speaker 4: know music videos at that. Time you, know for say
- 52:38Speaker 4: a new rock band or, whatever we might spend thirty fifty,
- 52:43Speaker 4: thousand seventy five thousand to make a. Video but you,
- 52:47Speaker 4: know when you have somebody Like michael and you know
- 52:51Speaker 4: the production value you have to, have you're not going
- 52:55Speaker 4: to shoot it in one. Day you, know you're going
- 52:58Speaker 4: to have a multi day. Shoot. Uh and also that
- 53:02Speaker 4: oftentimes the production, companies you, know they would See michael,
- 53:07Speaker 4: coming so you know it's like once they got once
- 53:12Speaker 4: they got approved, that, uh you, know once we commissioned
- 53:17Speaker 4: them to do the, video you, know then they would
- 53:20Speaker 4: get With michael and start trying to crank the budget.
- 53:22Speaker 4: Up you, know that was not the case with with
- 53:26Speaker 4: with jam but you, know we were moving too super superstars.
- 53:30Speaker 4: Around we, were you, know having to accommodate you, know
- 53:34Speaker 4: both of those. Camps it was pretty easy With Michael
- 53:37Speaker 4: jordan because you, know we shot it In chicago and
- 53:41Speaker 4: there were other challenges that are in the book About
- 53:47Speaker 4: Michael jordan's availability in the middle of the, playoffs but
- 53:50Speaker 4: WHICH i think some people will. Enjoy but, uh but you,
- 53:54Speaker 4: know the two of them just had a. Ball and you,
- 53:57Speaker 4: KNOW i have to say WHEN i pitched the the
- 54:01Speaker 4: idea at one of our marketing, meetings and it wasn't you,
- 54:05Speaker 4: know it didn't take a genius to match up basketball
- 54:09Speaker 4: at the you. Know, yeah and BUT i HAD i
- 54:13Speaker 4: had somebody from our promotion department come to me after
- 54:17Speaker 4: the meeting and, saying you're you are going to Kill
- 54:20Speaker 4: Michael jackson because there's no way he can perform next
- 54:25Speaker 4: To Michael. Jordan you, know he's he's going to look.
- 54:28Speaker 4: Weak AND i, SAID i beg your, pardon But Michael
- 54:32Speaker 4: jackson in his own, right is as athletic As Michael.
- 54:37Speaker 3: Jordan. Competitive, yeah it's just.
- 54:40Speaker 4: In a different. Form you know he's he's a. Dancer
- 54:43Speaker 4: and of course the whole idea of the video, was,
- 54:46Speaker 4: uh you, Know Michael jordan's Teaching Michael jackson how to play,
- 54:50Speaker 4: basketball Teaching Michael jordan how to, dance you, know and
- 54:55Speaker 4: they had a. Ball they just they really had a
- 54:58Speaker 4: great time shooting that.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Video i've read other books and other, things AND i
- 55:04Speaker 1: know that That michael didn't.
- 55:06Speaker 3: Sleep that was part of the drug.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Issue he took all kinds of things to try to
- 55:10Speaker 1: turn his brain.
- 55:11Speaker 3: Off AND i know about the.
