- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the almost famous podcast with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hi everybody, Hello, Bob Guinea, how are you.
- 0:08Speaker 3: I'm wonderful, Trista Sutter.
- 0:10Speaker 4: So great to see you again after all the drama
- 0:15Speaker 4: on the Instagram and the Facebook.
- 0:18Speaker 5: I just did an interview who with the Betches, and
- 0:22Speaker 5: Jared Freed said that he met you at I Think
- 0:26Speaker 5: Good Morning America one time and he wanted me to tell.
- 0:28Speaker 3: You, Hi, I love that Guy's funny.
- 0:31Speaker 5: He's amazing. She was on it and she was talking
- 0:35Speaker 5: about the YouTube. I was like, the YouTube now and then.
- 0:40Speaker 4: So funny, Yes, so much drama about it was almost
- 0:43Speaker 4: like like where's Waldo. It was like this this hot
- 0:46Speaker 4: topic sweeping the internet. It was like a buzzworthy moment
- 0:49Speaker 4: of where's Trista and what's going on? And you know,
- 0:52Speaker 4: And I loved your response to it because I it's funny.
- 0:55Speaker 4: I think knowing Ryan as I as I feel I do, well,
- 0:59Speaker 4: I was reading those those posts and going, I love
- 1:02Speaker 4: that man. He is just you know, I I clearly
- 1:06Speaker 4: knew that something was going on, but I was like,
- 1:08Speaker 4: I love the way he just gets on there. And
- 1:10Speaker 4: he says he.
- 1:11Speaker 5: Clearly knew that something was going on. How what no,
- 1:15Speaker 5: I didn't tell you anything.
- 1:16Speaker 3: So no, no that I had I had to do.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I had a let's just say, while we were scheduling podcasts,
- 1:24Speaker 4: all of a sudden my partner in.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Pod you was gone, and I don't know where.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I responded I all of a sudden you were like,
- 1:34Speaker 4: I'm gonna be gone for I'm gonna be unavailable.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I think it's what you said, I'm unavailable for this
- 1:38Speaker 3: period of time. I'm like, hmm.
- 1:40Speaker 4: And then during that period of time, Ryan takes to
- 1:42Speaker 4: the interweb to spew his feelings of long missing and
- 1:46Speaker 4: loving his beautiful wife, and next thing you know, drama ensues,
- 1:51Speaker 4: and you know.
- 1:53Speaker 5: It's a slow newsday, and it gets picked up by
- 1:56Speaker 5: every freaking news outlet on the planet.
- 1:59Speaker 2: It was just like it happened. Holy cow.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Well, for the record, I do not know where you were.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I have my suspicions and.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I have already.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I will, I will, I will.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I'm sure still try to get this stuff out of you.
- 2:12Speaker 4: But whatever it is, I'm excited about it. I'm excited
- 2:16Speaker 4: you're back.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Everything is harmonious and wonderful in the Sutter world as
- 2:20Speaker 3: it was then as it is now.
- 2:24Speaker 4: But you were very missed by America during that little
- 2:27Speaker 4: period of time there.
- 2:28Speaker 5: I mean, it's sound good to be to be missed
- 2:33Speaker 5: and to be cared for. But at the same time, people, gosh,
- 2:37Speaker 5: make a lot of assumptions from one little thing.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Yeah, never positive ones either. It's never like, oh, I'm
- 2:45Speaker 4: sure she's doing something. It's like, hmm, they must be
- 2:47Speaker 4: having problems.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Well, okay, So as with everything, I feel like when
- 2:52Speaker 5: it comes to social media or fans or whatever, followers,
- 2:57Speaker 5: ninety nine percent of it is positive. So I love
- 3:00Speaker 5: all the people out there who were like, we're we're
- 3:03Speaker 5: with you, we support you, we love you, guys, and
- 3:06Speaker 5: whatever's going on, it's great.
- 3:08Speaker 2: You do you kind of thing, you know.
- 3:12Speaker 5: And then there's, of course the one percent that's just god.
- 3:16Speaker 5: They're like, oh, Ryan's doing this for attention. Clearly you
- 3:21Speaker 5: don't know my husband.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Last thing Ryan Sutter would ever want in his life,
- 3:26Speaker 4: by the way, last thing.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Why can't you just be private about it? Why can't
- 3:31Speaker 5: you just text you? And I'm like, okay, have you
- 3:33Speaker 5: ever heard of the term shout it from the rooftops?
- 3:36Speaker 6: So he was.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Shouting it from the rooftops. That's something that he's able
- 3:40Speaker 5: to do. On his own freaking page, like he just
- 3:43Speaker 5: wanted to put it out there in a very public way,
- 3:46Speaker 5: or not given in a very public way, because usually
- 3:49Speaker 5: people people don't care about what we post, and you know,
- 3:53Speaker 5: if they do, it's a very minimal amount of people,
- 3:57Speaker 5: so in you know, all relative, right, So he was
- 4:01Speaker 5: posting like he always does and shouting it from the
- 4:05Speaker 5: rooftops that you know he loves.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Me essential yeah, yeah, And gosh.
- 4:10Speaker 5: The people who just come out of the woodwork and
- 4:13Speaker 5: they're like, oh, you just want to I'm like, yeah, literally.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, former reality start to say that
- 4:22Speaker 4: about quite honestly, I mean, honest to god, there's no
- 4:26Speaker 4: one who craves uh not being in the spotlight more
- 4:30Speaker 4: than Ryan that I've ever met that's been on a
- 4:32Speaker 4: show like these, And I mean I've met a bunch
- 4:34Speaker 4: of people from this stuff. And I was going to say,
- 4:36Speaker 4: how many red carpets have you and I walked together? Well,
- 4:39Speaker 4: Ryan's standing there watching us and my wife and my
- 4:42Speaker 4: wife the same way Keny is the same way.
- 4:44Speaker 3: She'll she'll be standing there.
- 4:45Speaker 4: With Ryan talking to him while you and I are
- 4:46Speaker 4: on the red carpet, and neither one of them care
- 4:48Speaker 4: one iota about it, like, and it's just always blows
- 4:52Speaker 4: my mind. It's funny, and I love it because we
- 4:55Speaker 4: you and I laugh about it, like there are there
- 4:57Speaker 4: are our plus ones, you know.
- 5:00Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm glad. I'm glad that.
- 5:03Speaker 4: You were able to kind of set the record straight
- 5:05Speaker 4: when you came back. And I love that you didn't.
- 5:07Speaker 4: I love that you were like, he's free to do
- 5:08Speaker 4: what he wants, and I love the way he you know,
- 5:10Speaker 4: did that, and but yeah, welcome back.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I'm excited to find out where my my partner in
- 5:16Speaker 4: POD was, So I'm very excited Pod. I'm excited to
- 5:22Speaker 4: find out where you were, what you were doing, and
- 5:25Speaker 4: how how it affected you and and all that good stuff.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I'm sure it's going to be such a great story.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I can't wait to hear it.
- 5:30Speaker 5: I will I will share as soon as I possibly can.
- 5:35Speaker 5: But yeah, life is crazy right now. Life is crazy.
- 5:39Speaker 5: And it's summertime with two teenagers who need to get
- 5:42Speaker 5: jobs and yeah, yeah we need to get ready for
- 5:46Speaker 5: their junior and sophomore years. So yeah, life is crazy.
- 5:50Speaker 5: And then we're just continuing to do stuff to the house,
- 5:52Speaker 5: like you know, people say I think. I mean, this
- 5:54Speaker 5: is basically like a room that we have. It's empty,
- 5:57Speaker 5: like nothing in it. So anyway, life is good. The
- 6:03Speaker 5: moral of the story. Life is good. Ryan and I
- 6:08Speaker 5: are very happy. We just came back from a family
- 6:10Speaker 5: vacation in Mexico.
- 6:11Speaker 4: That Yeah, that looked that looked incredible. Your pictures were incredible.
- 6:17Speaker 2: It was awesome.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Like I was thinking we would go to Europe because
- 6:22Speaker 5: we went to Europe years ago and haven't been back,
- 6:27Speaker 5: and we have family over there. The freaking flights I
- 6:31Speaker 5: looked at like thinking I wanted to go somewhere warm.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I looked at Spain and Portugal and economy seats four
- 6:41Speaker 5: thousand dollars eighteen thousand dollars for a first class ticket
- 6:47Speaker 5: and not that you would have paid dollars for an
- 6:50Speaker 5: economy seat for I was like, well, okay, no, And
- 6:54Speaker 5: I told Ryan, and he's like, let's just go to
- 6:56Speaker 5: Mexico because it's just so easy from Colorado, right, we
- 7:00Speaker 5: hit the easy button. Friend of ours goes to Puntameda
- 7:04Speaker 5: all the time, and she sent me.
- 7:05Speaker 3: This, that's where we got married. We got married. I
- 7:09Speaker 3: love it there. Yeah, that's so beautiful. Well, we we.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Rented a house down there and we got married at
- 7:15Speaker 4: the house, but our family and friends were able to
- 7:18Speaker 4: stay at either the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons,
- 7:20Speaker 4: which were like on either side of our house.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Yeah, which was super cool.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Four Seasons. This week?
- 7:28Speaker 3: Did you go to Saylita? Did you go to the town?
- 7:31Speaker 5: Walked around Sita? We went to Don Pegro for dinner.
- 7:35Speaker 5: I just walked around the shops there. But yes, it was.
- 7:39Speaker 2: It was like a much.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Needed trip and for no other reason other than we
- 7:44Speaker 5: really like bond as a family going on family vacations,
- 7:49Speaker 5: and we just hadn't been on one since we went
- 7:54Speaker 5: to thirty a like a year and a half ago,
- 7:57Speaker 5: two and a half years ago, so it's been a
- 7:59Speaker 5: long time, and we've had you know, you go to
- 8:01Speaker 5: a psychologist's office and they're like, or you're filling out
- 8:04Speaker 5: some psych of like psychological report. I've done it a
- 8:07Speaker 5: couple of times in my life where they're like, have
- 8:09Speaker 5: you gone through any big changes in life? And one
- 8:12Speaker 5: of the biggest ones is a move, and oh yeah,
- 8:15Speaker 5: so we've moved our life twenty years in Vail, so
- 8:19Speaker 5: we went through a huge move. We went through a
- 8:21Speaker 5: death with our dog, and you know, like all of
- 8:24Speaker 5: these changes. The kids are at a new school and
- 8:27Speaker 5: like activities, like all of those things.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Everybody's got the major shifts in your family right now? Yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 4: that's me, You're right. They always say, like loss of
- 8:35Speaker 4: a family member, loss of a job, moving from a house,
- 8:40Speaker 4: you know, change in marital status, whatever, like those are
- 8:42Speaker 4: the big ones, right and it's like you go through
- 8:43Speaker 4: that stuff and you don't realize. I mean, I'm sure
- 8:46Speaker 4: the kids are affected too, even though they're happy and
- 8:48Speaker 4: enjoying the move. But good for you. I think it's great.
- 8:51Speaker 4: I mean, Kenyon and I went to LA with the boys,
- 8:54Speaker 4: and you know it is. I will tell you, flights
- 8:56Speaker 4: are crazy right now. I totally agree with you, even
- 8:58Speaker 4: for four of us to fly to LA. And I
- 9:00Speaker 4: mean we got a two and a half year old,
- 9:02Speaker 4: right who. It's like people forget. They're like, you know,
- 9:05Speaker 4: why aren't you guys traveling that much? I'm like, cause
- 9:07Speaker 4: I gotta buy four tickets now and pay full price,
- 9:09Speaker 4: even for this two and a half year old that
- 9:10Speaker 4: everyone gets pissed off is sitting next to on the
- 9:12Speaker 4: plane anyway, So it's like, you know, I'm like, you know,
- 9:14Speaker 4: just then you end up having like a four hour
- 9:17Speaker 4: flight from hell.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Not because your kids are being bad, but because.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Anytime they make a noise, half the people are looking
- 9:23Speaker 4: at you like you're a horrible human being.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Bringing him, it's like, hey, guys, full price ticket right here.
- 9:27Speaker 3: He can do whatever he.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Wants, you know what. Like the first flight we took
- 9:34Speaker 5: someone on the plane, the pilot came on and he
- 9:36Speaker 5: was like, so if you're having an altercation with your neighbor,
- 9:40Speaker 5: please remember kindness. And I'm like, oh, my gosh, what
- 9:43Speaker 5: is happening? Like you hear about people fighting or like
- 9:46Speaker 5: just people being rude to flight attendants or flight attendants
- 9:49Speaker 5: being rude to people, and you know, people on the plane.
- 9:54Speaker 5: I was my my spidy senses alerts were up, like thinking,
- 9:59Speaker 5: let's go explain anyway. It's just crazy to travel right now.
- 10:03Speaker 5: And I'm grateful, very grateful that we could make it work.
- 10:08Speaker 5: I know that a lot of people like just it's
- 10:10Speaker 5: too expensive to go anywhere. You have like a two
- 10:12Speaker 5: and a half year old and and kids and young
- 10:15Speaker 5: kids and their activities and a lot of stuff and
- 10:17Speaker 5: work and all of that, so it's not last one.
- 10:21Speaker 5: I am grateful that we could make it work. I
- 10:24Speaker 5: will be stressed out about money for a while.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I'm just gonna be stressed out about money forever. I
- 10:30Speaker 4: decided there's just no so.
- 10:33Speaker 5: Well, and you know, my mom was just here on
- 10:35Speaker 5: vacation and or she came to visit, and she was
- 10:39Speaker 5: always the person, my parent that was stressed about money,
- 10:43Speaker 5: always stressed about money. And she told me she was.
- 10:46Speaker 5: We were talking about it. She said, you know what,
- 10:48Speaker 5: just go on the trip. If you have the credit
- 10:50Speaker 5: card bill for a month or two, that's fine. Like
- 10:54Speaker 5: get the memories and make the memories bond, you know,
- 10:58Speaker 5: do all the things because it's so much more important
- 11:02Speaker 5: than the stress over I agree.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I agree.
- 11:05Speaker 4: And it's not like you're not going to be able
- 11:06Speaker 4: to handle it. It's like you're not you're not irresponsible.
- 11:08Speaker 4: It's not like you're going bananas. It's like I know
- 11:11Speaker 4: you and how your family are. You know, it's like
- 11:12Speaker 4: we're the same way. But it is one of those things.
- 11:14Speaker 4: It's kind of like, you know, yeah, it's interesting, and
- 11:18Speaker 4: you know, I'm just glad you're back.
- 11:20Speaker 3: You've been missed, and I'm so excited to find out.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Finding to your dick, I'll find out with everybody else,
- 11:25Speaker 3: I'm sure, but.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I will tell you I had a great experience this
- 11:29Speaker 4: weekend in Charleston, and then we can get to our guest, obviously,
- 11:31Speaker 4: But I was in Charleston this weekend and one of
- 11:34Speaker 4: one of the people I was there with randomly kind
- 11:37Speaker 4: of there with, is like, can I please call my
- 11:40Speaker 4: friend because my friend is a huge fan of the
- 11:43Speaker 4: podcast listens every to every one of them, and uh,
- 11:47Speaker 4: and so we got on the horn and we were
- 11:49Speaker 4: we were talking to her friend, and we were having
- 11:51Speaker 4: a great time, but we were but we were on
- 11:53Speaker 4: a boat, so we couldn't really hear each other, and
- 11:55Speaker 4: I wasn't able to figure out what her friend's name was.
- 11:57Speaker 4: But I will tell you we had a great We
- 11:59Speaker 4: had a really great, you know time with our fans friend,
- 12:04Speaker 4: and so I was really happy to know that someone
- 12:08Speaker 4: besides my mom was listening to the podcast.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Yeah right, our moms, our moms. So all right, well
- 12:16Speaker 3: let's get into it. We have a great guest today.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I'm so excited doctor Travis Stork, famous of course from
- 12:22Speaker 4: season eight to the Bachelor, and of course The Doctors,
- 12:24Speaker 4: a long running show, any winning show, The Doctors is
- 12:27Speaker 4: joining us. And I know you've talked to him a
- 12:29Speaker 4: bunch of Trista, but I haven't really ever gotten to
- 12:32Speaker 4: talk to him in person, so I'm very excited to
- 12:34Speaker 4: meet him and have him on the show.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So let's do it. Hi, Travis, Hello, Hello, how goes it? Hey?
- 12:41Speaker 3: What's up? Doctor Stork? How are you, sir?
- 12:44Speaker 1: Life is good? How are you two doing?
- 12:46Speaker 3: We're doing great? Thank you so much for joining the show.
- 12:49Speaker 3: We appreciate it.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Well, it's good to hang with the O G crew.
- 12:52Speaker 1: That's right, you are a true og.
- 12:55Speaker 4: I mean season eight, man, we got to think about this.
- 12:58Speaker 4: They're on like season one hundred and sixty four. Write
- 13:00Speaker 4: Trista right now.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I'm too old. I can't remember now.
- 13:07Speaker 3: So long, I know, imagine how I feel. I mean,
- 13:11Speaker 3: my gosh, you know, like Trista and I.
- 13:13Speaker 4: She's the fairy godmother of the show, of course, and
- 13:15Speaker 4: I'm I'm the great grandpa.
- 13:17Speaker 1: So it's not even fair. Am I am? I like
- 13:22Speaker 1: the older middle child that Yeah, you're.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Like you're like the favorite uncle. Yeah, you're the favorite uncle.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Let's see, he's the funk call. He's the fun on.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Well, thank you so much for joining us. So I
- 13:40Speaker 4: have to tell you this story. I'll never forget it.
- 13:43Speaker 4: I I, well, the reason why I won't forget it
- 13:45Speaker 4: is because of the juxtaposition of things. So it was
- 13:49Speaker 4: a few years after my season The Bachelor, and I
- 13:53Speaker 4: had hosted the CMA Music Festival seven years in a
- 13:55Speaker 4: row down in Nashville.
- 13:56Speaker 3: I loved it, Tennessee Titan Stadium.
- 13:58Speaker 4: I'm out there on stage and all these cool people
- 14:02Speaker 4: and these executives from CMT come over and they're like, Oh,
- 14:04Speaker 4: we really want you to host this show.
- 14:06Speaker 3: It's a companion show to one of our top shows
- 14:09Speaker 3: on our network and one of the top shows. And
- 14:12Speaker 3: I and I didn't even ask.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I'm like, hell, yeah, let's do it, you know, because
- 14:15Speaker 4: I was just all excited. I loved CMT and trist
- 14:18Speaker 4: that knows me well enough. It's like, you know, the
- 14:19Speaker 4: power of yes, Okay, And then I find out later
- 14:22Speaker 4: maybe I should have thought this through. But anyway, they
- 14:25Speaker 4: they have me hosting this show that is called Trick
- 14:28Speaker 4: My Trucker. And the show at the time that was
- 14:32Speaker 4: a top rated show for them was called Trick My Truck,
- 14:35Speaker 4: which was very much a makeover show, you know, where
- 14:38Speaker 4: they bring in like a crappy semi truck and they
- 14:40Speaker 4: fix it all up and it goes back on the road.
- 14:42Speaker 3: So mine was this companion show.
- 14:44Speaker 4: To this, and I really had a good time filming it,
- 14:49Speaker 4: and it was it was a good show. Let me
- 14:50Speaker 4: just say those things to protect myself, but I will
- 14:53Speaker 4: say that the grounds with which we were filming was
- 14:56Speaker 4: this truck stop, and it was it was, it was.
- 14:59Speaker 4: It was a tough it was a tough neighborhood, you know.
- 15:01Speaker 4: And even though I'm from the main streets of Detroit,
- 15:04Speaker 4: they're actually the suburbs. I was not prepared for where
- 15:08Speaker 4: I was filming every day and I was like, man,
- 15:11Speaker 4: I just you know, this is crazy. I've got a
- 15:13Speaker 4: little trailer there and and a truck stop in between,
- 15:16Speaker 4: like California and Vegas.
- 15:18Speaker 3: And I get a call.
- 15:19Speaker 4: From this guy that I had met at this party,
- 15:22Speaker 4: and I'm trying to find his name on my phone
- 15:23Speaker 4: because I know, I know Travis will know him, but anyway,
- 15:29Speaker 4: I don't.
- 15:29Speaker 3: I don't have him on my phone anymore. But he's
- 15:32Speaker 3: his producer.
- 15:32Speaker 4: And he's like, hey, man, so I'm calling about this show.
- 15:35Speaker 4: It's called The Doctors, and I'm really excited about it.
- 15:37Speaker 4: And I'm like, oh my god, he must he must
- 15:40Speaker 4: think I'm a doctor, like you know, I'm not.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I'm not a doctor.
- 15:43Speaker 3: And so this conversation is going on and he's like,
- 15:46Speaker 3: and I need your help. I really need to get
- 15:48Speaker 3: a hold of Travis Stork.
- 15:50Speaker 4: And you're the only guy I've ever met from The Bachelor,
- 15:53Speaker 4: and this is the guy we think he's going to
- 15:54Speaker 4: be so great for this show and we really want
- 15:57Speaker 4: him to, you know, be the lead on the show.
- 15:59Speaker 4: And you know, do you know how I can get
- 16:01Speaker 4: a hold of them? And I'm like, and I'm looking
- 16:03Speaker 4: around me, by the way, you know, my my, my trailer,
- 16:06Speaker 4: my trailer area, park area, and I'm on a truck
- 16:09Speaker 4: stop and I'm you know, eating truck stop food every day, and.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I'm like, where the hell did I go wrong?
- 16:14Speaker 4: Like why am I not doctor Travis Stork right now
- 16:17Speaker 4: getting called for you know, a show that would go
- 16:19Speaker 4: on to be hugely successful, And congratulations on that run
- 16:22Speaker 4: for you, by the way, multiple Emmy's great show. I'm like,
- 16:26Speaker 4: you know, obviously, you know, let's start where I went wrong.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Let mean, I I didn't go to medical school. There's
- 16:30Speaker 4: as that one, you know, but you just crushed it
- 16:34Speaker 4: on that and it was so fun because I remember
- 16:36Speaker 4: connecting the dots with somebody, to someone that I thought
- 16:39Speaker 4: might be able to get in touch with you.
- 16:40Speaker 3: It might have been Jason Carbone.
- 16:42Speaker 4: I can't remember who it was that I gave the
- 16:43Speaker 4: information too, and then they helped connect the dots. But
- 16:47Speaker 4: I remember always thinking like I'd be watching on that
- 16:49Speaker 4: show and I'd be.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Like, yeah, yeah, that's all me. You're welcome, Travis. I which,
- 16:56Speaker 3: let's not get ourselves.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I did I owe everything to you, my friend?
- 17:02Speaker 4: Yeah, we know that's not true, but thank you.
- 17:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Interestingly, during that time, Tristan know this, knows this, I was.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I was essentially living down the road from trist I
- 17:13Speaker 1: was living up in Breckenridge, Colorado, like full on you
- 17:17Speaker 1: all know the you're on the show, and it's a
- 17:23Speaker 1: little overwhelming, yea, So I straight up moved to the mountains,
- 17:29Speaker 1: was an e ar doc literally lived I think one
- 17:31Speaker 1: hundred yards from the Colorado Trail, living the very simple
- 17:35Speaker 1: mountain life. Awesome. And when when those things started to
- 17:38Speaker 1: unfold and and the whole idea of honestly going back
- 17:45Speaker 1: on TV potentially was a little bit overwhelming. But I'm
- 17:49Speaker 1: in retrospect obviously ecstatic that everything evolved the way it
- 17:53Speaker 1: did because one of the coolest things for me now,
- 17:58Speaker 1: twelve years of hosting The Doctors honestly, what the Bachelor,
- 18:01Speaker 1: you're you do that and it lasts a few months realistically,
- 18:05Speaker 1: but you carry that with you for life. So it's
- 18:08Speaker 1: kind of cool, you know, to this day when when
- 18:14Speaker 1: people if they they stopped me on the street or whatnot,
- 18:17Speaker 1: they'll say something along the lines oftentimes of, oh, my gosh,
- 18:21Speaker 1: you know, I was watching this episode of The Doctors
- 18:24Speaker 1: and so and so maybe it's their husband or their child,
- 18:27Speaker 1: you know, had this illness, And for the first time
- 18:29Speaker 1: I actually understood what it meant, thank you. And I'm like,
- 18:32Speaker 1: oh my gosh. I like, never in a million years
- 18:35Speaker 1: when I when I was on The Bachelor that I
- 18:38Speaker 1: think one day that would lead to me giving And
- 18:42Speaker 1: so it all's come full circle and talking to you
- 18:45Speaker 1: too as well. It's just the journey for all of
- 18:49Speaker 1: us has been so unexpected and and Bob your own
- 18:54Speaker 1: unique journey, buddy. Maybe you weren't meant to host The Doctors,
- 18:59Speaker 1: but I bet ye, honestly, I bet hanging out at
- 19:02Speaker 1: the gas station between Vegas and LA honestly has taught
- 19:06Speaker 1: you a lot and is probably some brain story. So
- 19:08Speaker 1: I'm kind of jealous of you because that was probably things.
- 19:11Speaker 3: You know, I did learn some stuff I learned.
- 19:14Speaker 4: You never you know, you never pick up a milk
- 19:16Speaker 4: jug on the side of the road to take a drink,
- 19:17Speaker 4: because that's what they.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Call a truck or bomb. So I know these things
- 19:20Speaker 3: from that experience.
- 19:32Speaker 4: I think we maybe had met one time in passing
- 19:34Speaker 4: or something, and it wasn't even for a very long
- 19:36Speaker 4: period of time, but I remember feeling so proud of
- 19:39Speaker 4: of that jump you made because it was such a
- 19:41Speaker 4: great use of you know, like my thing. And Trista
- 19:45Speaker 4: knows this, Like whenever I get asked for advice for
- 19:47Speaker 4: the next Bachelor, you know.
- 19:48Speaker 3: My advice is always, don't quit your day job.
- 19:51Speaker 4: And it's not about you, right, It's about it's about
- 19:54Speaker 4: the thirty women that they've cast on that show who
- 19:57Speaker 4: have never lost anything in their lives, right, It's not
- 19:59Speaker 4: about the you could have a monkey hand on a flower.
- 20:02Speaker 4: And I'm always like, don't quit your day job, you know,
- 20:04Speaker 4: and and they always do, and you know, inevitably, you know,
- 20:08Speaker 4: they and no one listens to either piece of advice
- 20:10Speaker 4: I've given them.
- 20:11Speaker 1: But I was so.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Proud watching you like just catapult like you know, to
- 20:16Speaker 4: this day. I mean, I'm twenty How how deep are
- 20:19Speaker 4: we trested from our season?
- 20:20Speaker 3: How many years? Twenty three from.
- 20:23Speaker 4: When you were a bachelorette twenty two and then so
- 20:26Speaker 4: that means twenty one from when I was the actual bachelor,
- 20:29Speaker 4: and you know, I'm married with a couple of kids,
- 20:31Speaker 4: and I'm still bachelor bobbed everybody, you know, And so
- 20:34Speaker 4: it's it's got to be a pretty rewarding feeling for
- 20:38Speaker 4: you to you know, like like you said, you know,
- 20:39Speaker 4: you come off that show, you're hiding in the mountains
- 20:41Speaker 4: because you just can't take it, and and next thing
- 20:43Speaker 4: you know, you're back on TV, and you know, here
- 20:46Speaker 4: you are. If if we're twenty, you've got to be
- 20:48Speaker 4: sixteen fifteen years out from the show and to be
- 20:52Speaker 4: in that situation where you can be like you know,
- 20:54Speaker 4: people are coming up to they're not asking about, you know,
- 20:56Speaker 4: how you hand it out a flower and a rose ceremony.
- 20:58Speaker 4: They're asking you about medical advice you may have given
- 21:01Speaker 4: them to save a life. I just think it's it's
- 21:03Speaker 4: great that it's what you were went to school for
- 21:06Speaker 4: it's what you set out to do and your career.
- 21:08Speaker 3: You know, it just it just put you in this
- 21:09Speaker 3: next stratosphere.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I was. Really it means that I didn't handle my
- 21:14Speaker 1: post bachelor fame as well as you did. So I
- 21:17Speaker 1: actually have a quote that I don't even know if
- 21:19Speaker 1: it truly is from you, but honestly, going back to
- 21:22Speaker 1: the producer who reached out to you, I won't I
- 21:24Speaker 1: won't name that producer, but so he told me some
- 21:29Speaker 1: stories about you and one of the quotes, and again
- 21:31Speaker 1: I don't know if this is truly from your orner
- 21:33Speaker 1: probably is. He's like, yeah, you know, Bob said that
- 21:37Speaker 1: when you become the bachelor a bachelorette, you go from
- 21:40Speaker 1: being completely anonymous to being like you're in the Beatles.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yeah that moment. Yeah, And I was like, you know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: that's kind of how it is. Yeah, And I honestly didn't.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I don't think I personally dealt very well with the
- 21:56Speaker 1: post bachelor, and maybe it's because I was in the er.
- 21:59Speaker 1: You know, one day you're anonymous, the next day in
- 22:01Speaker 1: the yar you have people coming in and there's trauma,
- 22:04Speaker 1: patience and like literally a family member that they're sick
- 22:09Speaker 1: loved one like, oh my god, this is the story
- 22:11Speaker 1: and you're like, oh my god, I'm just please, let's
- 22:17Speaker 1: focus on the hand, like, what happened to my my
- 22:21Speaker 1: not quiet life, but my very simple you know, go
- 22:27Speaker 1: to the er, come home from r go for a
- 22:29Speaker 1: run with the dog. What happened to this this life?
- 22:34Speaker 1: And so the reason I bring up that quote a
- 22:37Speaker 1: lot to people is no one fully understands how that works.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And I especially feel bad for super young people who
- 22:47Speaker 1: quite frankly become within a day because having the ability
- 22:52Speaker 1: to handle that. So for me, this this story full
- 22:55Speaker 1: circle is I almost needed the doctors to happen for
- 23:01Speaker 1: me to regain my identity because I and I don't
- 23:04Speaker 1: know you're to how you all felt inside, but there's
- 23:08Speaker 1: just so much tied into who you were before you
- 23:10Speaker 1: go on the you know, the bachelor of the Bachelorette
- 23:13Speaker 1: and then instantly you are, they at least called you
- 23:16Speaker 1: bachelor Bob like what they you know, they with me,
- 23:18Speaker 1: it was just oh, that's the bachelor, and I'm sure
- 23:23Speaker 1: that's the way a lot of us feel. And you're like, Okay,
- 23:26Speaker 1: this is the great experience, but you're like, hey, I'm
- 23:30Speaker 1: actually that's like such a small part, right, right, It's
- 23:34Speaker 1: five weeks of my life, right, right, So there's more
- 23:37Speaker 1: going on here. But the reason I bring that up
- 23:39Speaker 1: is again, for me, the beauty of how everything evolved,
- 23:42Speaker 1: and the reason that I learned so much as you
- 23:46Speaker 1: two did as well about the power of television is,
- 23:50Speaker 1: especially with the Bachelor franchise, you're essentially giving people a
- 23:56Speaker 1: glimpse into your your life, so they become very attached
- 24:02Speaker 1: to you, your story, whoever you're dating, and the evolution
- 24:07Speaker 1: of that. Honestly, for me to then letting me talk
- 24:11Speaker 1: about things that also are very personal, you know, things
- 24:14Speaker 1: that matter very much, people's health, people's mental health. Like
- 24:18Speaker 1: the transition ended up being smoother than I ever thought
- 24:21Speaker 1: it would be, precisely because ultimately, I'm very comfortable with
- 24:25Speaker 1: having honest conversations with people. But it's a lot easier
- 24:29Speaker 1: to have those conversations about something more objective like health
- 24:34Speaker 1: than it is like why did you pick so and so?
- 24:37Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, Like why did you break up? What
- 24:41Speaker 1: were you thinking? You're like, yeah, oh no, I have
- 24:45Speaker 1: no good answer here because that is such a subjective thing. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 1: you know, you do TV and you do something that's
- 24:52Speaker 1: a little more objective, like something based on health. You're like, Okay, Well,
- 24:56Speaker 1: the reason I say this is because there are ten studs.
- 25:00Speaker 1: He's proved that it is okay to break the milk
- 25:04Speaker 1: jug on the side of the road because it probably
- 25:06Speaker 1: has pissing it.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Right, right, So it's a proven statistic.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Well, you know, I feel like, like Trista, you were
- 25:15Speaker 4: really such a trailblazer in so many ways. I mean,
- 25:18Speaker 4: you and I've talked about this a lot, but never
- 25:21Speaker 4: with Travis on the phone. But like, you know, one
- 25:23Speaker 4: of the things that you and I were, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 4: like when I said that quote, I mean that is
- 25:28Speaker 4: I'm sure that's something sex I used to say that
- 25:30Speaker 4: a lot, and I was like, in the hardest part
- 25:32Speaker 4: about it is we're not paid, like the Beatles right
- 25:35Speaker 4: to go on and hand out flowers. So you all
- 25:37Speaker 4: of a sudden you're like in the grocery store, mine
- 25:39Speaker 4: in your own business, trying to get back to your
- 25:41Speaker 4: normal life, which just I always say that you and
- 25:43Speaker 4: Ryan in particular have done that better than anyone.
- 25:47Speaker 3: From the standpoint of the way that you.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Two went back to Colorado, you could have done a
- 25:52Speaker 4: you know, I'm sure you could have done a billion
- 25:54Speaker 4: different things. And Ryan's like, I'm a firefighter and I'm
- 25:57Speaker 4: going back to protecting my neighborhood, you know, And it
- 25:59Speaker 4: was just going back to you know, patrolling the community,
- 26:02Speaker 4: and you know, but it was like one of those
- 26:04Speaker 4: things that I think, you know, it was a good
- 26:05Speaker 4: lesson for me to watch that and then, but it
- 26:09Speaker 4: still was really difficult to walk into a grocery store,
- 26:12Speaker 4: you know, when you're trying to mind your own business
- 26:13Speaker 4: and go back to your day job, and you know,
- 26:15Speaker 4: there's three covers on the magazines talking about things that
- 26:18Speaker 4: you know you didn't even do or you weren't at
- 26:20Speaker 4: and you're like, what And granted that's all changed now,
- 26:23Speaker 4: and now it's all social media, so it's you know,
- 26:25Speaker 4: it's way more I'm sure you know, just blown up
- 26:28Speaker 4: an immediate But your season kind of came around that
- 26:30Speaker 4: time when when social media was was really starting to
- 26:33Speaker 4: get invested in the show, didn't it.
- 26:35Speaker 3: I mean you were kind of.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Like, luckily for me, I was pre social media, okay, man,
- 26:42Speaker 1: I think so the unique thing about our three experiences,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I think there's a few things, and correct me if
- 26:47Speaker 1: you don't agree, but when we all went on, it
- 26:51Speaker 1: was just network television ruled today, right, So no streaming,
- 26:55Speaker 1: there's no and you know that they're all the There
- 26:58Speaker 1: was the MySpace isn't that what it's called? Yeah, in
- 27:04Speaker 1: the blogs that basically resembled social media, but you could
- 27:08Speaker 1: actually correct any misinformation. So when we went on, you know,
- 27:13Speaker 1: the number of viewers obviously was really especially for you
- 27:18Speaker 1: two ogs, like just through the roof, and continued kind
- 27:23Speaker 1: of on through that stretch till streaming obviously became more popular.
- 27:27Speaker 1: So the one thing that like the blessing I feel
- 27:31Speaker 1: like for me is that I didn't have to interact
- 27:34Speaker 1: as much with all of the pure say but what
- 27:38Speaker 1: I did it was you guys again, agree or disagree.
- 27:43Speaker 1: You really had no way to respond to it. So
- 27:46Speaker 1: it's almost like having social media as a double edged sword,
- 27:49Speaker 1: because at least nowadays people can directly respond to whether
- 27:53Speaker 1: it's rumor, you know, rumors or you know. We were
- 27:57Speaker 1: kind of stuck in this. Everyone watched us, and then
- 28:01Speaker 1: we had to sort of hear the.
- 28:05Speaker 5: We've got no, you're so right, I've never thought about
- 28:09Speaker 5: it like that, and and you're so and you're so right.
- 28:11Speaker 5: I guess the only way that we could respond, was
- 28:14Speaker 5: if we had the opportunity for an interview, you know,
- 28:17Speaker 5: or something like that, you didn't have crass releases that
- 28:22Speaker 5: we would put out, you know, it would just be
- 28:25Speaker 5: like all magazine stuff. And they never necessarily got that
- 28:29Speaker 5: right anyway. But I will say even with social media,
- 28:34Speaker 5: like even if you put something out, people still spend it.
- 28:37Speaker 2: However they want to spend.
- 28:38Speaker 3: It, so you know, they just went through that.
- 28:43Speaker 5: Yeah, it's been all crazy around here, but no, I uh,
- 28:47Speaker 5: I think you're right there. There are definitely benefits and
- 28:50Speaker 5: pitfalls to social media. But I feel like I've always said,
- 28:54Speaker 5: especially with being married to someone similar to you, Travis,
- 28:58Speaker 5: and that he just wanted a simple life. He wanted
- 29:01Speaker 5: to go back to the fire department. He didn't want
- 29:03Speaker 5: people pulling fire alarms to meet him, and he just
- 29:07Speaker 5: wanted to live in the mountains and you know, forge
- 29:10Speaker 5: a relationship and it was hard. So I'm sure it
- 29:15Speaker 5: was so hard for you, But with social media, I
- 29:19Speaker 5: think it would have been even harder because it's just
- 29:22Speaker 5: like people just like to chime in and they think
- 29:25Speaker 5: they know everything about your relationship and they really don't.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Well, and with the chatrooms too, I was going to
- 29:31Speaker 4: say with the chat rooms too, not not everybody had
- 29:33Speaker 4: access to chat or knew how to get on chatrooms,
- 29:35Speaker 4: you know what I mean. Like, so, yeah, you're right, Travis,
- 29:38Speaker 4: we would have to sit there and read all this
- 29:39Speaker 4: stuff and sit there and go, oh, these people don't know.
- 29:41Speaker 3: What they're talking about.
- 29:42Speaker 4: But if we got in there and responded, now we're
- 29:44Speaker 4: like feeding the machine.
- 29:45Speaker 3: So we would never do that, you know.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Now it's like everyone's got social media, so everybody feels
- 29:51Speaker 4: like their opinion matters, right, which it does.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yeah, but they'll be like, well, I.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Think, you know, Trista did this or whatever, I think
- 29:57Speaker 4: Bob did this, And it's just, you know, I would
- 30:00Speaker 4: never I would never be able to handle being the
- 30:03Speaker 4: Bachelor today, Like there's no way.
- 30:05Speaker 1: The one the one thing though that you alluded to before,
- 30:08Speaker 1: which is so true, and no one realizes this. You know.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I actually have a lot of respect now for people
- 30:15Speaker 1: who go on the show and are genuine, But if
- 30:19Speaker 1: they are then able to spin that into increasing their
- 30:23Speaker 1: social media followers and they have some purpose, you know
- 30:26Speaker 1: again other than just the reality is you you're five
- 30:32Speaker 1: minutes of fame when you are on the Bachelor of
- 30:34Speaker 1: Bachelorette is pretty much that if there's something else that
- 30:37Speaker 1: you have that you know, you want to talk about,
- 30:40Speaker 1: I think it's cool to use social media to your
- 30:43Speaker 1: advantage and to either spread that message or if you
- 30:46Speaker 1: want to get some endorsement deals. I'm all for that
- 30:49Speaker 1: because back in the day, you all know, everyone would
- 30:51Speaker 1: go on the show and pretty much we're like, Okay,
- 30:53Speaker 1: this is cool. Like for me, I got to go
- 30:55Speaker 1: to Paris, literally Paris is where it was, and I
- 30:58Speaker 1: was totally fine with the fact that I had. I
- 31:00Speaker 1: got to live in a castle and I got to
- 31:02Speaker 1: like meet some really cool people and go on private
- 31:05Speaker 1: jets and helicopters. Like that's enough for me. That's all
- 31:08Speaker 1: I'm looking.
- 31:09Speaker 3: That's all we got.
- 31:11Speaker 1: But yeah, you do you get back from it. And
- 31:12Speaker 1: I mean I was a resident physician, so yeah, you know,
- 31:18Speaker 1: I'm barely making enough to put food on the table,
- 31:20Speaker 1: got my my med school loans, and like you come
- 31:22Speaker 1: back from that, and then and then all of a sudden,
- 31:24Speaker 1: you're famous. You're like, but I still I still.
- 31:27Speaker 6: Have no money, right, Yeah, So nowadays I like, I'm all,
- 31:33Speaker 6: I'm all for the ones that are able to like
- 31:35Speaker 6: parlay that into making some money because you're making the
- 31:39Speaker 6: Bachelor franchise a lot of money, so you might as well,
- 31:42Speaker 6: you know, take part if you will.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree.
- 31:46Speaker 5: Yeah, So I would love to know. Like you've been
- 32:00Speaker 5: talking kind of back in the day, but how how
- 32:03Speaker 5: is life now? Like, tell us how life is where
- 32:07Speaker 5: you are all about your family and what you're doing now.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Well, I mean mainly you can call me, you know,
- 32:18Speaker 1: the guy living the dad life. So dad is kind
- 32:20Speaker 1: of my new idility and you know, without going into
- 32:24Speaker 1: the specifics of it, one of the blessings of everything
- 32:27Speaker 1: that's happening in my life. And this is honestly that
- 32:30Speaker 1: I almost want to cry thinking about it. But I
- 32:34Speaker 1: started a family later in life. And in many ways
- 32:36Speaker 1: it probably is because the Bachelor is so just. It
- 32:41Speaker 1: causes so much confusion, unless, of course, you're Tristan and
- 32:44Speaker 1: you meet your person right right.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Yeah, For one person on this call, it didn't cause
- 32:49Speaker 4: her any confusion.
- 32:51Speaker 1: For the other, you was that you met a great
- 32:55Speaker 1: person and you're still together. And I think that's the
- 32:57Speaker 1: storybook ending that everyone goes either on the show or
- 33:01Speaker 1: hopes for in life. Well, you know, for me, it
- 33:04Speaker 1: took longer to find my person and start a family.
- 33:07Speaker 1: So I'm fifty two now, and so my daughter literally
- 33:11Speaker 1: today's our second birthday, hey, and so she and she
- 33:17Speaker 1: is just absolutely incredible, rambunctious, energetic. My son turns four
- 33:22Speaker 1: in two weeks. And so over the last four years,
- 33:27Speaker 1: my son was born during the pandemic, during that whole stretch,
- 33:31Speaker 1: like maybe I don't know, he was born in June,
- 33:35Speaker 1: so was it March or so that the world kind
- 33:37Speaker 1: of shut down in marchiele And ironically, so my son
- 33:41Speaker 1: is born. And then because of the pandemic, you know,
- 33:47Speaker 1: the doctor stopped filming in LA and I no longer
- 33:50Speaker 1: it was like it was the perfect time. Twelve seasons
- 33:53Speaker 1: of the doctors y and doing that for twelve years,
- 33:57Speaker 1: traveling from Nashville to LA just gone like that. So
- 34:03Speaker 1: I kind of dug my heels in and like I
- 34:05Speaker 1: got this little baby boy, and like I have an
- 34:08Speaker 1: opportunity to spend a ton of time with him. And
- 34:13Speaker 1: as life sort of evolved, Like one of the cool
- 34:15Speaker 1: things is I kind of made a conscious decision because
- 34:18Speaker 1: your kids are pretty much at home for just a
- 34:20Speaker 1: few years and then they're gone, and then they care
- 34:24Speaker 1: more about their friends than you my girl was born
- 34:29Speaker 1: two years later, I sort of committed to trying to
- 34:33Speaker 1: spend as much time with her as I did with Grayson.
- 34:35Speaker 1: So it's it's been hard only because as you two
- 34:39Speaker 1: both can attest to, any parent out there listening knows this.
- 34:42Speaker 1: So I'm an er doc b trader. I can't tell
- 34:45Speaker 1: you how chaotic life in the er can be, or
- 34:49Speaker 1: some of the nights I've had, and just the pure
- 34:51Speaker 1: chaos right for the most part, like my whole life.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I mean, I was a math major in college. Like
- 34:57Speaker 1: you solve problems, you know. One plus one equals to
- 35:01Speaker 1: the last four years for me because I'm a logical
- 35:05Speaker 1: type person. Spending this much time with two toddlers, I
- 35:13Speaker 1: have never felt in an er shift the amount of
- 35:16Speaker 1: angst and anxiety and high speach tone as I felt
- 35:22Speaker 1: over the last four years. I have so much empathy
- 35:28Speaker 1: for any parent out there who actually gets in the
- 35:31Speaker 1: dirt with their kids literally and also figuratively, and that
- 35:36Speaker 1: like learning how to actually get your kid to go
- 35:39Speaker 1: to bed. Yeah, like literally as hard as an er shift,
- 35:44Speaker 1: you know, trying to get your kids to not throw
- 35:47Speaker 1: their feet in to eat it. There's no logical reasoning
- 35:51Speaker 1: and you're just this is this is this is so
- 35:56Speaker 1: hard and so it's funny because the last four years
- 36:00Speaker 1: party was like, it's been the best I've had all
- 36:02Speaker 1: this time with my kids. The other party is like,
- 36:04Speaker 1: who am I now?
- 36:05Speaker 4: Right?
- 36:05Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 36:06Speaker 1: My greatest skill set is I figured out a way
- 36:08Speaker 1: to get my son to go to bed every night
- 36:10Speaker 1: like four years, but he actually goes to bed now
- 36:13Speaker 1: when I ask him too, And I'm like, this is
- 36:15Speaker 1: this is everything.
- 36:16Speaker 3: I'm me, you did it.
- 36:19Speaker 4: I didn't realize. I didn't realize how much we had
- 36:21Speaker 4: in comments. I'm fifty three and I'm my five year
- 36:25Speaker 4: old is Grayson and a boy? Yeah, and my two
- 36:29Speaker 4: I have a two and a half year old Blake.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:31Speaker 4: So I had kids really late too. I was forty eight,
- 36:35Speaker 4: uh when Grayson was born. So that's I love that
- 36:37Speaker 4: I didn't know yet. I didn't realize he had a grace,
- 36:39Speaker 4: and I knew he had a son and a daughter. I
- 36:40Speaker 4: didn't know their names.
- 36:41Speaker 3: That's spectacular. I love that well, Bob.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I mean this in a loving way. The beauty for
- 36:46Speaker 1: you of life is you have a babyface years. I
- 36:52Speaker 1: don't look at you and think, oh, Bob's an old father.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Thank you, buddy, thank you, because yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 1: You're you're very youthful, and it actually makes me feel
- 37:03Speaker 1: better whenever I talk to people who are of similar
- 37:06Speaker 1: aids with kids at our ages, because you would agree
- 37:10Speaker 1: with me. It's it's a different experience because you have
- 37:14Speaker 1: like if I had had a kid when I was
- 37:16Speaker 1: in the midst of my er training and everything else,
- 37:18Speaker 1: Like the reality is I was gone eighty hours a week. Yeah,
- 37:22Speaker 1: and this was even way back before they had time
- 37:24Speaker 1: limits and all that, so just like gone, right.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Now being older, like you have more choices because you've
- 37:33Speaker 1: been ryn for twenty thirty years, and so it's like
- 37:39Speaker 1: you probably had that unique experience with me.
- 37:41Speaker 3: I do.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I talked about it at the time. I love it. Yeah,
- 37:44Speaker 4: I love that, you know. And where we are in life,
- 37:47Speaker 4: you know, we're not we're not at that point as
- 37:50Speaker 4: a young parent would be, which you know, and there's
- 37:53Speaker 4: blessings and curses on both sides, right, Like I look
- 37:55Speaker 4: at the the you know, the half my guys I
- 37:57Speaker 4: graduated high school with them, their kids are going.
- 37:59Speaker 3: To college, and I'm like wow, you know yeah, and like.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Hey, let's go to dinner. I'm like, ah, I don't
- 38:04Speaker 4: think I can. I got to put the kids down
- 38:05Speaker 4: at seven thirty, you know. So it's like my life
- 38:08Speaker 4: is just so different than I you know, but I'm
- 38:10Speaker 4: so thankful for it, and I think I appreciate it more.
- 38:12Speaker 4: I'm sure you feel this way too. I appreciate it
- 38:14Speaker 4: more at this age then I think I might have
- 38:17Speaker 4: had I done it differently, you know. And I and
- 38:20Speaker 4: I don't have anything to compare it to other than
- 38:21Speaker 4: my own personal life experiences, but I think I was
- 38:24Speaker 4: a little I was focused on different stuff back then.
- 38:27Speaker 4: And so now it's like, you know, when my kids
- 38:29Speaker 4: come up and knock on the door, and I can
- 38:30Speaker 4: be in the middle of this interview and they're coming in.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Right, you know, it's the same. You know, I'm like, oh,
- 38:36Speaker 3: here they come. U Yeah. I mean how many shows?
- 38:37Speaker 3: I mean twist that I have done a.
- 38:38Speaker 4: Bunch of these, and my kids generally will make a
- 38:41Speaker 4: cameo at some point or another, you know. But it's
- 38:44Speaker 4: it is one of those things where it's like, I'm
- 38:46Speaker 4: so thankful for that because I want to be that dad,
- 38:49Speaker 4: Like I want to be the dad that's never too
- 38:50Speaker 4: busy for my kids, and you know, and I love
- 38:52Speaker 4: that you've got that opportunity to be home with them
- 38:55Speaker 4: and spend all that time. I've often said that's been
- 38:58Speaker 4: the silver lining for me of of COVID, which you know,
- 39:01Speaker 4: I know a lot of people lost so much in
- 39:03Speaker 4: their lives and things of that nature, and my heart
- 39:04Speaker 4: goes out to those families. But for me, I was
- 39:07Speaker 4: able to spend a lot of time with my two
- 39:09Speaker 4: children that I won't I won't ever regret, you know there,
- 39:13Speaker 4: you know, and I love that I had that time
- 39:16Speaker 4: where Trista.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Where Bob and I are different though, is Bob's like, ah,
- 39:20Speaker 1: you know, I can't go to dinner at seven thirty
- 39:22Speaker 1: because I got to put the kids down. I'm like, sorry,
- 39:26Speaker 1: can't go to.
- 39:27Speaker 5: Dinner because I'm.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Thirty and I'm going to put the kids down and
- 39:31Speaker 1: I'm going to be at home. And I love get
- 39:33Speaker 1: at home. Yeah, I don't have to go be social.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Life is great.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, And I'm like, I can't be social.
- 39:41Speaker 5: That would be right, You would be like, yeah, no,
- 39:43Speaker 5: I don't need to go out to dinner. I'm happy here.
- 39:46Speaker 5: I Yeah, I totally get that. And I love that
- 39:49Speaker 5: you have it. I love that you found it no
- 39:52Speaker 5: matter what time in your life. But I wonder do
- 39:55Speaker 5: you miss practicing at all or even just talk about
- 40:00Speaker 5: medicine and do you do any of it now?
- 40:03Speaker 1: I mean, so I'm still I'm still a doctor obviously,
- 40:06Speaker 1: once a doctor, always doctor. Yeah, I'm actually taking a
- 40:10Speaker 1: little sabbatical from actual practice. But here's the irony of
- 40:13Speaker 1: life as an e ard doct I mentioned my my
- 40:15Speaker 1: daughter's birthday today, So literally two hours before I hop
- 40:18Speaker 1: on with you guys, she gets a nurse maid's elbow.
- 40:21Speaker 1: So I don't know if you guys, basically called radio
- 40:24Speaker 1: radiohead suplixation, So like their elbow, their their bone comes
- 40:27Speaker 1: a little bit out of joint and you got to
- 40:30Speaker 1: reduce it. And it's just funny because like, thank my
- 40:34Speaker 1: wife's like holding her she's crying and and I'm like,
- 40:37Speaker 1: all right, what's going on. She's not not using her
- 40:40Speaker 1: left arm, and I'm like, I wonder, I wonder if she,
- 40:44Speaker 1: you know, had a little sublixation, and you know, she's balling, balling, balling.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, I'm gonna reduce it. And it's
- 40:53Speaker 1: luckily a very simple procedure if you know how to
- 40:56Speaker 1: do it, and like instantly she Perks starts using our arm,
- 41:01Speaker 1: which is like the classic thing is you have to
- 41:03Speaker 1: do a high five after and that means everything's back
- 41:05Speaker 1: in order.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Paris is like, yeah, you're you know the beauty of
- 41:11Speaker 1: being in the yard doc is your whole life. Two
- 41:16Speaker 1: things like one. It is definitely a younger person's game,
- 41:19Speaker 1: if you will. Like the energy I had in my
- 41:22Speaker 1: thirties and forties to do that kind of work day
- 41:24Speaker 1: in and day out is so much greater than when
- 41:27Speaker 1: you're in your fifties. But it's really kind of cool
- 41:30Speaker 1: because not only the lessons that you learn just about
- 41:35Speaker 1: health and wellness and hopefully avoiding disease. But I'm not
- 41:38Speaker 1: gonna lie, it's kind of cool when you're you don't
- 41:40Speaker 1: have to take your two year old daughter and her
- 41:41Speaker 1: birthday to the ar. Yeah, yes, do the procedure in
- 41:45Speaker 1: your living room and you're like all right, yes, and.
- 41:49Speaker 2: You can write yourself.
- 41:50Speaker 5: Can you write a prescription and be like, oh, my
- 41:52Speaker 5: kid has an ear infection, I'm gonna write any antibiotic
- 41:54Speaker 5: and don't have to go to the urgent care.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Yeah, right, here's pinky, here we are.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't want to start like digging into the
- 42:02Speaker 1: uh moral grounds of medicine. But you know, having said
- 42:07Speaker 1: all of that, there there are other advantages. So when
- 42:12Speaker 1: you get to this stage in life, I think the
- 42:13Speaker 1: one thing that I really pay a lot of attention
- 42:16Speaker 1: to is I mean, when you spend as much time
- 42:18Speaker 1: in the hospital as I have, your number one goal
- 42:20Speaker 1: in life becomes I want to minimize the amount of
- 42:23Speaker 1: time my family's in the hospital, because yeah, sometimes no
- 42:27Speaker 1: matter what you do, you do everything right, still tragedy strikes,
- 42:31Speaker 1: or you know, you end up having to go to
- 42:32Speaker 1: the er, or you haven't develop a medical problem, no
- 42:36Speaker 1: fault of your own, but you I'm constantly sort of
- 42:41Speaker 1: aware of a how we're living our lives. I'm obviously
- 42:46Speaker 1: I'm not a helicopter parent at all, but i will
- 42:49Speaker 1: say that I'm very very mindful of what my kids
- 42:52Speaker 1: are doing. Yeah, because you know, someone else can naively
- 42:56Speaker 1: watch their kids. And I'm like, yeah, if he falls
- 42:58Speaker 1: right there, he's got a broken arm, he's gonna have
- 43:00Speaker 1: to go to the hospital. I don't want to. I
- 43:02Speaker 1: don't want him to have that experience in the PEDSR
- 43:06Speaker 1: at five pm on a Saturday. So hey, you know, Grayson,
- 43:10Speaker 1: my son, like you know, let's do that over here
- 43:13Speaker 1: where if you do fall, your falling into grass. And
- 43:15Speaker 1: so I'm very you know, my kids are never on
- 43:18Speaker 1: any sort of bike or anything without a helmet on,
- 43:22Speaker 1: mainly because I'm trying to teach those habits. But the
- 43:25Speaker 1: biggest thing is, like I, to the best of my ability,
- 43:31Speaker 1: I try to use all those little lessons that I've
- 43:34Speaker 1: learned as a doctor and implement them in my own life.
- 43:37Speaker 1: And then of course the beauty is obviously a lot
- 43:40Speaker 1: of my friends are doctors, and some of my best
- 43:42Speaker 1: friends in Nashville are doctors. And two years ago, not
- 43:46Speaker 1: to make this all about medicine, but I have genetic
- 43:50Speaker 1: high blood pressure. And a couple of years ago we'd
- 43:54Speaker 1: had Dylan, my wife got COVID, so she she was
- 43:58Speaker 1: like laid up in bed, so for like five days straight.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Dylan was maybe two months old. I had Grayson Dylan
- 44:05Speaker 1: full time parent and on the fifth day, I went
- 44:08Speaker 1: into atrial fibrillation.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 44:13Speaker 1: And you know, I thought I was super healthy. Here
- 44:16Speaker 1: I'm fifty. At the time, I was fifty, But yeah,
- 44:19Speaker 1: I've developed some high blood pressure, but overall I'm healthy.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I feel pretty good. But obviously exhausted from parenting everything else,
- 44:26Speaker 1: probably drinking a little too much wine at night during
- 44:28Speaker 1: bathtime routine. I get it, but I go into atrial fibrillation.
- 44:32Speaker 1: And it's pretty cool that my two best friends in
- 44:36Speaker 1: town are just great, great people, but also really smart people. Yeah,
- 44:41Speaker 1: and you know, I'm in a fib. My wife puts
- 44:44Speaker 1: her Apple watch on. I got all these traces, like
- 44:47Speaker 1: I can't get out of it. And I'll be honest
- 44:49Speaker 1: with you, I'm like, Paris, I'm just gonna I'm just
- 44:52Speaker 1: gonna sit here and wait. So she calls my best friend.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Next thing, you know, like he's at my doorstep five
- 44:58Speaker 1: ten minutes later with his wife. His wife like comes
- 45:02Speaker 1: in and take care of our kids. He throws me
- 45:04Speaker 1: in the car. Next thing, you know, like we're on
- 45:07Speaker 1: the way to the hospital. Long story short. There there
- 45:12Speaker 1: are like so many I don't know what I'm saying
- 45:16Speaker 1: with them to say, like, I feel very blessed to
- 45:19Speaker 1: have learned the lessons I've learned. And one of the
- 45:21Speaker 1: most important lessons I've learned is it's not just about
- 45:24Speaker 1: being friends with doctors. What is being friends with people
- 45:27Speaker 1: that like, if you have your time of need, they're there.
- 45:30Speaker 1: For you. The fact that they're willing to like drop everything,
- 45:34Speaker 1: come over and like take you to the hospital is
- 45:37Speaker 1: pretty awesome.
- 45:38Speaker 7: Yeah, And that's the huge thing for me is is
- 45:42Speaker 7: knowing and understanding that having that around me, which is
- 45:47Speaker 7: a huge probably because I spent you know, so many
- 45:49Speaker 7: years practicing the ear is a huge bonus for me
- 45:53Speaker 7: at this stage in life with kids being a little
- 45:56Speaker 7: bit older.
- 45:58Speaker 1: So yeah, they I mean that is one of those
- 46:01Speaker 1: things to this day where I like, you'll never see
- 46:03Speaker 1: me without my watch now, oh right.
- 46:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:07Speaker 3: It gives you hear your readouts and everything else you need.
- 46:09Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, that's crazy. And I'm glad you found your people.
- 46:14Speaker 5: That's so important in life. I feel like connection is everything.
- 46:28Speaker 5: So for your wife, I'm sure you've been asked this
- 46:32Speaker 5: question before. Did she watch the show? Did she know
- 46:34Speaker 5: who you were from before from a bachelor?
- 46:39Speaker 2: I guess?
- 46:40Speaker 1: And where did you meet like before doctor? Much later?
- 46:44Speaker 1: So she she was a I trained at Vanderbilt and
- 46:48Speaker 1: then she was a Vanderbilt trained lawyer and a mutual
- 46:51Speaker 1: friend of ours who was on the Bachelorette. Believe it
- 46:55Speaker 1: or not. Chris Stramberg, you may remember his his moniker
- 46:58Speaker 1: was Chris Cupcake. He was on, Yes, you know that guy,
- 47:05Speaker 1: like the irony of how life ends up evolving. So
- 47:07Speaker 1: Chris came on the Doctors to do a few dental
- 47:10Speaker 1: health tips, came on a few different times. I became
- 47:14Speaker 1: friends with him. He lived in Nashville, and he set
- 47:19Speaker 1: me and my wife up on a date. And yeah,
- 47:21Speaker 1: here we are. I didn't know you.
- 47:24Speaker 5: Were set up by somebody from the Bachelor, like it
- 47:26Speaker 5: actually happened.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Because you know, it's funny how this works out, because
- 47:34Speaker 1: and look for all the blessings and curses the Bachelor
- 47:38Speaker 1: of them, if you will. My roommate when I went
- 47:42Speaker 1: on The Bachelor, So I got a couple of stories,
- 47:44Speaker 1: Like my roommate when I went on the Bachelor. You know,
- 47:46Speaker 1: we're both r residents. One night and I rarely went out,
- 47:51Speaker 1: but one night for my birthday, all my friends took
- 47:54Speaker 1: me out and of course it was chaos. This is
- 47:56Speaker 1: like a month after the Bachelor. Well, my roommate ends
- 47:58Speaker 1: up meeting his wife that night. Amazing, they're now married
- 48:02Speaker 1: with two kids. I have like three or four different
- 48:05Speaker 1: stories where again it wasn't the part that showed up
- 48:08Speaker 1: on TV. But by going on the Bachelor. There are
- 48:10Speaker 1: a minimum of four to five people married right now
- 48:14Speaker 1: because I went on The Bachelor, And so it's really
- 48:18Speaker 1: cool that this, again, however imperfect, these journeys are. Yeah,
- 48:25Speaker 1: whether it's you know, Tristy, you and Ryan meet on
- 48:27Speaker 1: the show and you stay together. You know, Bob, I
- 48:31Speaker 1: know you've had some ups and downs in the you know,
- 48:34Speaker 1: in relationships. Oh yeah, but it's kind of cool how
- 48:37Speaker 1: through all of that you can go back to your
- 48:40Speaker 1: experience in the Bachelor and say, yeah, unequivocally, there there
- 48:43Speaker 1: are happy married people in the world with kids because
- 48:48Speaker 1: I did that.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Yeah, you could go down the rabbit hole even further.
- 48:52Speaker 4: I mean, because of The Bachelor, you end up on
- 48:54Speaker 4: the Doctors, right, and I can only imagine you've probably
- 48:57Speaker 4: saved I would guess millions of lives, if not thousands,
- 49:03Speaker 4: by some of the advice you gave on the show
- 49:05Speaker 4: and the way that you would have resonated with people
- 49:07Speaker 4: at home.
- 49:07Speaker 3: And I mean, we.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Could we could do this all day, but I bet
- 49:09Speaker 4: we could find even more like direct connections of things
- 49:12Speaker 4: that you've had an impact on just with your you know,
- 49:15Speaker 4: with your practice and everything else. I think it's pretty spectacular.
- 49:18Speaker 4: I will tell you though. I did take notes per Travis.
- 49:21Speaker 4: Be friends with more doctors. That's my note. That's one
- 49:24Speaker 4: note I have so far, and I'm gonna do that.
- 49:27Speaker 4: You know, being older dads, we gotta we gotta listen
- 49:29Speaker 4: to each other.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Man. We got to share the wealth.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Just Bob, do this though. Be a considerate friend to
- 49:34Speaker 1: your doctor. Friend one you know that wants prescriptions? Yeah,
- 49:41Speaker 1: call it two am, Like, Oh, I can't sleep? Hey,
- 49:44Speaker 1: will you? Will you for me?
- 49:47Speaker 3: Can I get some?
- 49:48Speaker 6: Uh?
- 49:48Speaker 3: What's I don't even know what you use to sleep?
- 49:50Speaker 3: But whenever people use the sleep.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Dude, I love I love having you on the show
- 49:54Speaker 4: because I feel like we've been best buddies forever. And
- 49:56Speaker 4: it's like it's crazy because it's like, you know, one
- 49:58Speaker 4: of those things where you think you know someone you
- 50:01Speaker 4: know from the experiences that you share in common, but
- 50:04Speaker 4: you really don't, and then as you get to know them.
- 50:07Speaker 4: I mean, I I've always really liked who I think
- 50:10Speaker 4: you are, and then after having you on the show,
- 50:12Speaker 4: I'm like, this is my guy. Like I'm going next
- 50:14Speaker 4: time I'm in Nashville, I'm calling him, you know, because
- 50:17Speaker 4: it's like, yeah, I just feel like it's one of
- 50:19Speaker 4: those things, you know, I think and I was it
- 50:22Speaker 4: Lacey Pemberton that cast.
- 50:23Speaker 3: You when you did the show?
- 50:24Speaker 1: Do you remember?
- 50:25Speaker 3: Was that was that the casting person?
- 50:28Speaker 1: No, it was not Lacey, okay, because I was gonna
- 50:31Speaker 1: say I don't. I mean, she may have still been
- 50:33Speaker 1: a part of it, but it was some Yeah, it
- 50:37Speaker 1: was someone who was at a Nashville restaurant.
- 50:40Speaker 6: Ah.
- 50:41Speaker 2: Yeah, one of those.
- 50:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I have to say the connections for Travis. So
- 50:48Speaker 5: Travis went to my rival high school.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Oh I did not know this.
- 50:53Speaker 2: I went to Parkway Central.
- 50:55Speaker 5: Yes, I'm sure I saw him in a football game
- 50:58Speaker 5: or two basketball something.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Isn't that weird?
- 51:02Speaker 5: Like to think that we probably were at the same
- 51:04Speaker 5: place at the same time back in nineteen eighty nine
- 51:08Speaker 5: or something.
- 51:09Speaker 1: You know, that is crazy, but you can tell the truth.
- 51:13Speaker 1: I was at the Parkway Central West High School football
- 51:15Speaker 1: game Rivalry. I asked you on a date and you
- 51:17Speaker 1: said no, yeah, And I said, I'm going to show
- 51:21Speaker 1: her someday I'm going to become the Bachelor. But you
- 51:26Speaker 1: beat me to it, And oh my gosh.
- 51:29Speaker 2: That would be so funny.
- 51:30Speaker 3: That would be crazy crazy, really.
- 51:34Speaker 1: You know, the Parkway Central and Parkway West are I was.
- 51:38Speaker 1: I probably lived as close to Central as I did
- 51:40Speaker 1: to West I mean a few miles. Yeah, I mean right,
- 51:44Speaker 1: because they're so close, and someone who lives in Saint
- 51:48Speaker 1: Louis knows. Like the first thing you ask is when
- 51:50Speaker 1: you meet someone where high school and your rivals back
- 51:55Speaker 1: in the day. But now I'm like, oh, dude, you
- 51:56Speaker 1: went to Parkway Central. That's incredible. I know, I love it.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Do you ever get back?
- 52:03Speaker 2: Do you ever get back to you still have family there?
- 52:06Speaker 1: I don't. I haven't been back in so long. How
- 52:09Speaker 1: about you?
- 52:10Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 52:11Speaker 2: I went back last year.
- 52:13Speaker 5: My best friend lost her mom, so I went back
- 52:17Speaker 5: for her funeral, But and my dad's still there. I
- 52:21Speaker 5: just haven't been back a lot.
- 52:22Speaker 2: I should. I should go back more.
- 52:25Speaker 5: You know, it's just with kids and their schedules hockey
- 52:28Speaker 5: and dance mom, that's me, And it's it's just hard
- 52:32Speaker 5: to travel when the school season is happening.
- 52:35Speaker 2: So I wish.
- 52:37Speaker 1: So, first of all, I'm sorry for your your friend's lost, but.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Oh thank you.
- 52:41Speaker 1: How Like I can't believe you put your kids needs
- 52:45Speaker 1: in front of your own.
- 52:49Speaker 3: Yeah, what the hell? Twist?
- 52:50Speaker 1: Come on, we should just call this entire episode of
- 52:54Speaker 1: like who we were versus who we are, yeah, versus joy.
- 53:00Speaker 5: And honestly, you said something in the beginning about, you know,
- 53:03Speaker 5: we're only going to have our kids for a little bit.
- 53:05Speaker 5: I have been like on this path of really focusing
- 53:09Speaker 5: in on that because Max will be a junior next
- 53:12Speaker 5: year in high school and Blakesley will be a sophomore,
- 53:15Speaker 5: and I they have been my identity, you know, bachelorette
- 53:19Speaker 5: was my identity back you know, early two thousands, and
- 53:23Speaker 5: now it's like I am a mom, That's that's who
- 53:26Speaker 5: I am. And to think that they're not going to
- 53:29Speaker 5: be here, like we just went on a family vacation
- 53:31Speaker 5: because we were talking about it and Ryan said, you know,
- 53:35Speaker 5: they're only going to be around for a couple more
- 53:37Speaker 5: years to do like family trips like this, and not
- 53:40Speaker 5: that we couldn't while they're in college obviously, or if
- 53:42Speaker 5: they go to college whatever they do after high school,
- 53:45Speaker 5: but he said that, and I.
- 53:47Speaker 2: Was like, Okay, We're going on vacation. That's it.
- 53:49Speaker 5: I don't care how much money it costs, like, I'm
- 53:51Speaker 5: just going to make it work. So it's so hard,
- 53:55Speaker 5: you just eat it seems like you're in it and
- 53:58Speaker 5: you're enjoying it, and I say, just continue to do that.
- 54:02Speaker 5: It's it makes life worthwhile. And I just wish we
- 54:07Speaker 5: could hold onto them more, although I love that they
- 54:09Speaker 5: get to spread their wings and fly soon.
- 54:11Speaker 1: So well, it's your your colds. Are you know that?
- 54:16Speaker 1: That is the age where you've your hard work is
- 54:19Speaker 1: in many ways done, you know, And that's pretty awesome.
- 54:24Speaker 1: It's funny, and Bob, you can probably attest to this.
- 54:27Speaker 1: I have to catch myself sometimes from saying, gosh, you know,
- 54:31Speaker 1: I can't wait till they're a little bit older and
- 54:33Speaker 1: can feed themselves and clothe themselves and bathe themselves. But
- 54:37Speaker 1: then I hear the story talking about your kids and
- 54:39Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, my gosh, it's my daughter's birthday today.
- 54:42Speaker 1: I wish it wasn't.
- 54:43Speaker 3: I wish it was.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Because You're right, it goes by so quick.
- 54:48Speaker 5: I do.
- 54:50Speaker 3: I feel exactly that way. Yeah, I feel exactly that way, dude.
- 54:54Speaker 4: I was gonna say, I generally I look at Trista's children,
- 54:57Speaker 4: who are so beautiful and accomplished, and it's like, you know,
- 55:00Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, I wonder what my boys are going
- 55:02Speaker 4: to turn out to be? Like, you know, I hope
- 55:03Speaker 4: you know, I hope they want to do this. I
- 55:05Speaker 4: hope they want to do that, But I've got to
- 55:07Speaker 4: slow myself down, like what Travis said, and I got
- 55:10Speaker 4: I got to allow myself to enjoy the ride sometimes
- 55:12Speaker 4: because it's like, you know, Grayson is at this point
- 55:15Speaker 4: now and I'm sure you're going through it now to
- 55:16Speaker 4: Travis where he I have full on conversations with him,
- 55:19Speaker 4: like he is my guy. Like We'll be driving along
- 55:22Speaker 4: talking about the day and and I don't need anybody else,
- 55:25Speaker 4: you know, and then along comes Blake, and now Blake
- 55:27Speaker 4: will be like, you know, Blake's the really soft sense,
- 55:29Speaker 4: and I've wanted to be like, I love you, daddy,
- 55:31Speaker 4: and I'm like, oh oh my, ready to cry ten
- 55:33Speaker 4: times a day.
- 55:34Speaker 1: You know.
- 55:34Speaker 3: It's like, and I think that happens to guys as
- 55:36Speaker 3: we get older.
- 55:37Speaker 4: I'll talk to my doctor, Travis Stork after the show
- 55:40Speaker 4: to go to a personal consultation on this one. But
- 55:42Speaker 4: I swear to you, I have become an emotional basket
- 55:45Speaker 4: case as I get older with everything that happens with
- 55:48Speaker 4: the boys, Like I'm constantly like, oh.
- 55:49Speaker 1: My god, look at them.
- 55:51Speaker 3: I'm so proud. He's all grossed up and he's.
- 55:53Speaker 4: Five, you know, so it's kind of funny, right you
- 55:56Speaker 4: get to I don't want him to grow up either,
- 55:57Speaker 4: but I do want I, like Trista said, I want
- 55:59Speaker 4: to see him spread their ways.
- 56:00Speaker 3: But it's tough.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Well that the difference there, Bob also is Yeah, my
- 56:05Speaker 1: son fully cognizant, great conversations. By the way, thank you
- 56:09Speaker 1: guys for not telling me that my wife's name was
- 56:11Speaker 1: on my Uh I did see that.
- 56:13Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I didn't.
- 56:17Speaker 3: Think anything of it. Mind doesn't even have a code,
- 56:20Speaker 3: don't even know it.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's funny. I looked down. I'm like, yeah, no,
- 56:23Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not parish. So the way I knew
- 56:28Speaker 1: that my son was, you know, fully competent of having
- 56:30Speaker 1: conversations with me is not from having wonderful fatherly son conversations.
- 56:37Speaker 1: It's when we're in traffic. Now he's like, move your
- 56:41Speaker 1: freaking car. I'm an impatient driver. And if we're like
- 56:47Speaker 1: the light's green in the car front, we're just sitting there.
- 56:49Speaker 1: I'm like, dude, move your freaking car. My son now
- 56:54Speaker 1: does that. I'm like, yeah, I'm such a good dad.
- 56:56Speaker 1: I mean, wow, I'm my son's so teaching a bit.
- 57:01Speaker 1: He's almost four, but yeah, you know, I'm teaching them
- 57:03Speaker 1: all these invaluable lessons like impatience, screaming, screaming at the
- 57:09Speaker 1: drivers of other cars. Who know that's so good?
- 57:14Speaker 3: Do you know what?
- 57:15Speaker 2: I feel like?
- 57:15Speaker 5: I am now in the point of my life where
- 57:18Speaker 5: I'm actually cussing again. Like I wasn't cussing for so
- 57:22Speaker 5: long because I didn't want them to pick up those
- 57:25Speaker 5: bad habits. And now I'm like, they're teenagers, they're doing
- 57:27Speaker 5: it on their They're they're cussing to their friends. I'm
- 57:32Speaker 5: so there's actually some freedom in that.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm still not You're you going to drop drop
- 57:39Speaker 1: an F bomb right now? Trista, Oh yeah, you know.
- 57:41Speaker 5: Actually I just watched this Instagram video one, you know,
- 57:44Speaker 5: one of those four you's that pops up, and there
- 57:47Speaker 5: was this little girl who's looking outside and she goes,
- 57:49Speaker 5: there's a goat.
- 57:50Speaker 3: There's a goat, Oh my god.
- 57:55Speaker 5: And my mom was like, no, it's not and she goes, yes,
- 57:58Speaker 5: it's a fing goat.
- 58:00Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 58:02Speaker 4: All you gotta do is a you gotta do is
- 58:04Speaker 4: not your kids watch a Disney movie, which I'm sure
- 58:06Speaker 4: Travis is in the throws of them as.
- 58:08Speaker 3: Well right now, but like yes, in cars.
- 58:10Speaker 4: So so my son, Blake, I'll be changing his diaper
- 58:13Speaker 4: like hey buddy, and he'll go, you fool, you idiot,
- 58:17Speaker 4: and I'm like, I'm changing your diaper, like that's not
- 58:21Speaker 4: how we talk to people who are in diaper, Judy.
- 58:23Speaker 4: But but it's like every Disney movie has a moment
- 58:26Speaker 4: where they call they throw the word idiot out I
- 58:28Speaker 4: swear or fool, and Blake uses it like crazy. It's
- 58:32Speaker 4: like his favorite adjective, you know. And so we're just
- 58:35Speaker 4: I don't even know if it's an adjective. I'm not
- 58:37Speaker 4: the grammar police here today, but whatever type of word
- 58:41Speaker 4: it is, he uses it, he uses it very freely
- 58:44Speaker 4: and fluidly, and it's just abusive. Like I'm like, why
- 58:47Speaker 4: is my two and a half year old calling me
- 58:49Speaker 4: an idiot all the time?
- 58:50Speaker 1: You know? So yeah, I'm very careful, you know. Is uh.
- 58:56Speaker 1: It's sort of that classic you know, sticks and stones
- 58:59Speaker 1: will break my bones. Words will never hurt me as
- 59:01Speaker 1: a parent. It's you know, poop in my face will
- 59:05Speaker 1: really suck. You can say whatever you want if I'm
- 59:07Speaker 1: changing your diaper and you don't like, grab your poop
- 59:10Speaker 1: and throw it at me. This pool will call me
- 59:14Speaker 1: an idiot. I don't care. Just let me get this
- 59:16Speaker 1: diaper changed. Let's like contain the poop. Let's not having
- 59:20Speaker 1: up the backer here, Let's just keep it real. Let's
- 59:23Speaker 1: wipe the butt, let's get everything clean. And yeah, I'll
- 59:26Speaker 1: be I'll be your fool whatever, but let's get this
- 59:30Speaker 1: diaper on.
- 59:31Speaker 4: Do that.
- 59:32Speaker 1: And it's like, oh yeah, so chi don't hurt me.
- 59:35Speaker 4: My wife told our friends this week, and do I'll
- 59:37Speaker 4: have older kids, she said something, and she goes, wait,
- 59:40Speaker 4: so you guys don't play the fun family game.
- 59:43Speaker 3: Is it pooper? Is it chocolate?
- 59:44Speaker 4: Because that's what we play at the Guinea House, and
- 59:46Speaker 4: seventy nine point four percent of the time it's chocolate.
- 59:53Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm like, wait, what game are you playing?
- 59:55Speaker 4: Because seven nine or four percent of the time with me,
- 59:57Speaker 4: it's poop.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:59Speaker 2: I was just gonna say most of the time. So okay,
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: last question. Do you still watch the show.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Sometimes? Yeah, it depends on the interview.
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: No one watches it anymore, right, Bob, I feel like
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: most people don't, So I love that you're.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Sometimes you know, well, it depends. My wife still finds
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: it incredibly entertaining, and I think it's one of those
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: things where it'll often be on the background. She'll put
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: it on. But to be honest with you, you know, it
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: really does depend on the season. She'll be watched, like,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: oh my gosh, you have to watch like and it's
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: usually this, it's whoever the penultimate. I don't want to
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: say character because none of us are characters, but like, yeah,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: everyone wants to ascribe one meaning to the franchise. Here's
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: the deal. Every single journey is so unique, genuinely, and
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: whenever the Bachelor or Bachelrette, or in the case of Jerry,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: the Golden Baster, whenever it's someone who's likable, we kind
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: of get drawn into it because even though it's crazy,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: it's chaos, it's not real world all this other stuff.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: The truth is, during that moment, during that journey, if
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: someone's having like an authentic experience or a cool person,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I get invested. The Golden Bachelor's a great example. I
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: was like, this is really you know, do I agree
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: with everything going on?
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: No?
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: You know what I tell four people in the same day,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I love them or whatever, Like, no, probably not, but
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I really like Jerry I really like this. I hope
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: this works out. Does it often?
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: No?
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: But when my wife and I sort of get drawn in,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: it's usually because they are just some really really good folks.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: To me, the seasons where I literally don't watch one
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: second of it because my wife isn't interested. It's it's honestly,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: it's when the people tend to be assholes and you
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: can tell superficial and they suck and you're like, yeah, well,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I don't give a shit what happens because these people suck,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: and when they're nice and cool, good personalities, genuine I'm like, like,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: I hope it's worked out for them, Yeah, because you're
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: living proof that it can't. Yeah, And every every I know,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: every single moment of every day since then, has been
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: pure bliss. There's never been a.
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: Moment sure, sure bless.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right, that's right. That's all she had to
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: say about that one.
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: No, I mean, I feel like marriage is freaking hard.
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: You know, life is hard, it's hard being a parent,
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: it's hard just existing in the world sometimes. So I yeah,
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: I am very thankful that we have gotten through the
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: downs that we've had in our life and enjoy the
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: highs as much as possible, but.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: It's hard.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: But you're right, I am so drawn to the people
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: and I watch everything, so I'll watch even the bad
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: seasons or what we're calling kind of the bad seasons
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: of the people that people aren't necessarily drawn to. But
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: I am like with Gary, like with Joey, freaking love
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: Joey and this season and girls and just the like camaraderie.
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: It reminded me of my season with the guys, like
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: people got along although there was drama still, like in
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: the end, how the girls came together. I just love
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: seeing humanity and authenticity and kindness, and so I'd love
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: more of that on the show. And it seems like
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: you do too, Chris.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Do you know, or Bob, how did the last season rate?
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Because you know, the world of TV is interesting, and
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: I think there was a period of time, certainly before
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I went on the show. There were a couple of
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: seasons before, at least the one right now before where
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: it was all about just taking shots off of like
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: naked bodies, and it like didn't rate well, and I
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: think one of the reasons why I ended up getting cast.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: And you know, I was at that restaurant in Nashville
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: and someone came up started talking to my group and
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: the person casting without us knowing who she was, like,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: you're a doctor. And the reason I bring that up
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: is there there was a notable shift towards, at least
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: on my season, towards being genuine and like some people
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: might call that boring. That's why I'm always cured that
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: looked recently, But like, I know, the Golden Batter did
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: really well because I thought it was genuine and the
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: storytelling is genuine and legit. I'm curious, do you guys
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: know with Joey's season did it go well? Because I
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: think I I didn't watch a lot of it, but
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: what I did, he's super likable guy and and the
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: women on the season seemed really genuine. I hope it
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: rated well because it did.
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like a return to tour to the
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: og days. Really, I mean it kind of was a
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: little bit of a return to that.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: I think Golden Bachelor, and we talked a lot about this,
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: but one of the things I loved about Golden Baschler
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: was the age appropriate casting because it could have been
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: a you know, it could have been a circus, and
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: then they roll that into Joey's season and it's a
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: really sincere, sweet and funny guy who's not afraid to
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: take a couple of shots at himself and you know whatever,
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: and it's like, you know, it was it was their
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: return to I think what made the show so great
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: so many years ago, and hopefully they keep that vibe going,
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: you know, I think they will. I think that they're
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: pretty smart, right, they realize they've they got lightning in
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: a bottle again with the Golden Bachelor formula. Now maybe
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: they'll like apply that to the seasons again. I think
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: they just they maybe just got to a point where
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: they wanted to try something new for a couple of
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: years and it took off and it was like drama Central.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: You know, nobody wanted to I'll say one controversial thing
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: any line of work. They're really smart people and really
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: dumb people. A lot of really dumb people in LA
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: but also those smart ones. And it's interesting having now
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: spent I mean, I spent a lot of time out there,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: and it's amazing how sometimes the dumbest voices in the
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: room carried the day and common sense or practical anyone
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: with a normal mind is like, yeah, you know, if
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: you're making TV. If all you're thinking about is like
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: a certain demographic out in LA, it's not going to work.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: You have to be thinking Trista, the folks in Saint Louis,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: you know, like how this who plays out? And and
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: it's just funny because obviously twelve years on the Doctors,
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: being The Bachelor and in between, you guys have done
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: all this stuff where you just spend so much time
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: here on different shows. You're doing all this stuff and
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: you meet some really phenomenal smart people who seem to
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: make really good decisions about making good TV, and then
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: you make others meet other people and you're like, why
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: would you do that?
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: So true, so domb Yeah, it's like, you know, the
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: majority of the population out there isn't out here right
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: in the middle. It's it's what we call the flyover states, right,
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: that's who's watching the show. So yeah, I agree with
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: you on that one. There's definitely, uh, there needs to
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: be a return to a little bit more of the
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: wholesome programming.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: I think they'll be surprised at how good it goes,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I hope I hope they do that with Bold
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: and Bachelorette I'm hoping just teare, but Travis, it was
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: a pleasure reconnecting. I'm so happy that you found happiness
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: and so happy and your babies and Nashville. Actually, Ryan
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: and Max are going to be in Nashville at the
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: end of the month for a hockey tournament, so I
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: wish I was going. I'm going to Vegas for nine
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: days for a dance competition. Vegas for nine days, whichld
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: we luck anyway, I couldn't last.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: If Brian needs anything. While as you're let me know,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: it's always so as we as we end this conversation.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: You know, the funny thing about it is going back
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: in time. When I did The Bachelor, I was I
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: felt like I was on an island, you know, being
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: a doctor and all this other stuff, and I just
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: I just wanted to sort of separate myself from it.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: And now with time having passed, it's so fun talking
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: to you too, because we are who we are now.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: We have this unique experience that we all had together,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: even though it's different. It just we know things and
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: had experiences that very few people will ever have. Even
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: though it's different, it's really cool. It's like going to
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: a reunion. I know, and meeting or hanging out with
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: the people that you went to school with but you
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: didn't know them that well in school. But you're like,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: it turns out we have a lot in common because
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: we went to the same school, we took the same classes,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: and maybe we were a year apart, but like, hey, yeah,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I went to my reunion and I
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: met some great people, or I hung out with people
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: I didn't know very well, or like with Trista, we've
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: talked a bunch, but it's good to like, I haven't
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: talked to you in freaking a decade, maybe.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: A long time.
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: I know, I thought your number. I was like, I can't,
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: I can't find it. I don't have his number. I
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: don't know why. I feel like we talked and still.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: I still have the ninety seven oh number. I still have.
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: So I.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: But yeah, you guys, appreciate uh the time talking to
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: you all. It was a lot of fun. And Bobby,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: if you ever had this way, feel free to look
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: me up. I will.
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: A lot of big parties happening over here, Man, big parties.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: I'm sure they don't.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: We probably start when I'm already going to bed.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: And yeah, I've already played a start. Yeah, they started
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: at four and they ended six and they involved balloons
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: and other fun things.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: So this sounds like my guy party. This is awesome. Definitely,
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: thank you for joining us on the Ogs, dude. It
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: was such a pleasure having you on the show. And man,
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: I'm so I'm so thankful that we got we got
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: a chance to talk and catch up.
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: And let's not let's not make it take so long time.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: All right, y'all?
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: Well, awesome, Bye, Travis, have a great day.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Cheers.
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: Gosh, what a great guy. Huh. I love him.
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: I've always loved him. I mean, obviously Saint Louis Roots
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: and then he was in Colorado for a bit, and yeah,
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: he is just authentic, like assault of theirs kind of
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: people love.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: You know, hasn't that been our experience?
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: I honestly, God, I feel like people come on our
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: show and we end up like every single one of them,
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: you and I are at the end of like I
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: love that person. Like.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: That's why I asked him.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: That's why I wanted to know if it was Lazy
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: Pemberton who ultimately cast him, because I feel like she
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: just had this nose to find really just like minded
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: people you know, it's it's just really.
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: Remarkable to me.
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: But anyway, always great talking with you, Trista, and thanks
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: everyone for listening to almost famous the Ogs and uh
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: tune in next time.
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: You'll never your ever love
