- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talk zed be

- 0:16Speaker 2: Daie McKay, host of the Country, Good evening to you.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Good evening, Andrew. Nice to have you on the show.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it was nice to see Sir David Allis yesterday
- 0:25Speaker 2: getting a King's Birthday honor. He is now a sir
- 0:28Speaker 2: of course from the Darco stud who else God represented
- 0:31Speaker 2: it from agriculture.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Well and especially like David Allis's backstory. He started out
- 0:37Speaker 3: as a hard up sheep and beef farmer in the
- 0:39Speaker 3: nineteen eighties, battled his way through Roger onmics and look
- 0:42Speaker 3: where he is today, well deserved. One of my favorite
- 0:44Speaker 3: stories is Jeff Maber, the guy, well not the guy.
- 0:48Speaker 3: His father Laurie Maber, founded the Power Farming Group and
- 0:52Speaker 3: a small shed in Mourronsville in nineteen forty eight. Jeff
- 0:56Speaker 3: has taken it over and his sons are now taking
- 1:00Speaker 3: over from him. So this is a company that started,
- 1:03Speaker 3: as I said, in a small shed by the former
- 1:05Speaker 3: mayor of Moronsville way back when, and it now employs
- 1:11Speaker 3: six hundred people in Australia, New Zealand obviously North America
- 1:15Speaker 3: turnover six hundred million dollars, and of course the Maybor
- 1:20Speaker 3: family Power Farming is famous for having Mabel the giant cow,
- 1:25Speaker 3: which is I must see when you go to Moronsville.
- 1:28Speaker 3: So he was one. Professor Keith Sorry, do you want
- 1:32Speaker 3: me to continue on here?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just laughing at I'm just remembering the cow
- 1:36Speaker 2: which is right beside the Anna streeton thing.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I love Mournsville, I love the cow. Carry on.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Well, if you go back to the nineteen sixties, Interestingly,
- 1:44Speaker 3: the two richest towns per capita in New Zealand were
- 1:48Speaker 3: Mournsville off the back of the dairy cow and Gore.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Believe it, I'm not off the back of the Romney sheep.
- 1:54Speaker 3: So there you go. Professor Keith Woodford a man whose
- 1:57Speaker 3: name is synonymous with agri business, Academia Lincoln University. He
- 2:03Speaker 3: was appointed or awarded an Officer of the New Zealand
- 2:07Speaker 3: Order of Merit. The people who were recognized doctor Ronald
- 2:11Speaker 3: Beats and mochuecre services to horticulture, Russell Lowe to Pookie
- 2:17Speaker 3: services to horticulture, and not surprisingly, the Keywi fruit industry.
- 2:21Speaker 3: An interesting one is a doctor Katrina Roberts matamatter services
- 2:25Speaker 3: to the dairy industry. She was also the twenty twenty
- 2:27Speaker 3: four Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year and Lindsay Wrights
- 2:31Speaker 3: down in Northern Southland for services to rural community and
- 2:36Speaker 3: mental health. And one thing, sorry, Andrew, one thing all
- 2:39Speaker 3: these people have in common is philanthropy being very generous
- 2:44Speaker 3: with it. So if you want to go on, Andrew,
- 2:46Speaker 3: here's the tip, give away some of your hardened drive
- 2:50Speaker 3: show host dollars.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, okay. Well, Also, I really appreciate Lindsay Wright
- 2:56Speaker 2: obviously all the work he's done for mental health. And
- 2:58Speaker 2: I remember and realize all the things you've done for
- 3:00Speaker 2: mental health and what the country does about mental health.
- 3:02Speaker 2: It's a very important thing for the rural community. Now, look,
- 3:05Speaker 2: we've got a woman who won the New Zealand dog Trial,
- 3:08Speaker 2: So tell me the story behind Rachel Law.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Well, she's got a great story. Just changing tac from
- 3:14Speaker 3: the King's Birthday Honors list. This was another great story
- 3:16Speaker 3: over the weekend. It evolved on Friday, so she along
- 3:20Speaker 3: with the dog Nala, won the straight hunt. Now there's
- 3:24Speaker 3: four disciplines in dog trialing. This two hunter way events,
- 3:27Speaker 3: two heading dog events. Her and Nala were the last
- 3:31Speaker 3: into i E. The lowest qualifiers for the seven dog
- 3:35Speaker 3: straight hunt runoff on Friday. They turned it around day
- 3:39Speaker 3: one and she's done all this while running herself. She's
- 3:43Speaker 3: the boss of an eleven thousand stock unit. She can
- 3:46Speaker 3: beef farm in Telmai. Plus if that doesn't make her
- 3:49Speaker 3: busy enough, she's got a nine month old baby now
- 3:53Speaker 3: and only three women well, she's only the third woman
- 3:56Speaker 3: one hundred and sixteen year history of the New Zealand
- 3:58Speaker 3: Dog Trilling Champs to lift a national title. Only seven
- 4:02Speaker 3: women have won titles in either the Inter Island or
- 4:05Speaker 3: the New Zealand Champs. And just quickly running through those
- 4:08Speaker 3: results the four disciplines at the New Zealand Dog Trial Champs,
- 4:12Speaker 3: Alan Stewart legendary dog trillis from down South taking the
- 4:16Speaker 3: long head, short head and yard, Ben Miller, zigzag hunt,
- 4:20Speaker 3: Dan jury and the straight hunt. That was none other
- 4:23Speaker 3: than Rachel Law and Nala.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Great event, absolutely and I thank you so much for
- 4:28Speaker 2: your time. Jeremy McKay from the country.
