- 0:06Speaker 1: Hey, we got the former home Run Derby Champ. He's
- 0:09Speaker 1: got the hardware on the desk. Todd Frazier is going
- 0:12Speaker 1: to help us solve the problem today. How do you
- 0:15Speaker 1: win the home run Derby Todd Father, run us through
- 0:17Speaker 1: your experience, what the current experience should look like with
- 0:21Speaker 1: the swings versus the timer, and then if you do
- 0:24Speaker 1: everything right, I think your bodyguard will give you your
- 0:27Speaker 1: hardware back.
- 0:29Speaker 2: He needs to put that down a stop because they'll
- 0:31Speaker 2: break it with his paws. He's like a polar bear
- 0:33Speaker 2: over here. Oh no, that's Peter Alonzo. Sorry, Home Run
- 0:36Speaker 2: Derby Champ as well. This is a gauntlet, bro, This
- 0:41Speaker 2: is gonna be a tough one. Boys are gonna have
- 0:43Speaker 2: to get home runs and they're gonna have to not
- 0:45Speaker 2: miss and you only get twenty tries and it goes
- 0:48Speaker 2: down to fifteen and so on.
- 0:51Speaker 3: You better be ready.
- 0:52Speaker 2: If I'm one of the first ones hitting, I'm happy
- 0:55Speaker 2: right now. I want to be one of the top
- 0:56Speaker 2: four hittings, so I know, and I could pressure on.
- 1:00Speaker 3: People are going no, I want to wait until the
- 1:02Speaker 3: last one.
- 1:02Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden you miss five six
- 1:04Speaker 2: in a row and you're like, oh my god, I
- 1:05Speaker 2: got to get to this number. Well, let me put
- 1:07Speaker 2: the pressure on somebody in the beginning. Get out there,
- 1:10Speaker 2: and then you'll have time to relax even more so
- 1:13Speaker 2: the stress of having to be timed and be exhausted
- 1:17Speaker 2: and have to jump up and do it again is over.
- 1:21Speaker 2: It's time to go out there and launch and take
- 1:23Speaker 2: as much time as you need. So that's the only thing.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I mean.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Listen, I've done I've done one in Minnesota where you
- 1:31Speaker 2: got eight outs.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah, we did eight outs in twenty fourteen.
- 1:37Speaker 2: That was the second round, first round eight outs.
- 1:40Speaker 3: What yeah, Yeah, it was funky.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Was this after.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Twenty fifteen? We did the time then we did it
- 1:47Speaker 3: and so your.
- 1:48Speaker 4: First time you did eight outs.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it was weird.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Which I don't even remember that.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I remember all Stanton had to do was hit one
- 1:56Speaker 2: home run to time me and he didn't hit any no. Yeah,
- 1:59Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh my god, I got a chance
- 2:00Speaker 2: to win this and cess. But it said no, you
- 2:02Speaker 2: don't said, no problem. But the pressures to swing, Oh
- 2:10Speaker 2: they took five six pitches. Oh, swing the bat, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: the pressure on the batting practice thrower to you know,
- 2:15Speaker 2: to dot up exactly where the guy wants to hit
- 2:18Speaker 2: the ball, staying loose in between rounds.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Make sure you drink your fluids.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I mean there's a lot that goes into it, Bananas,
- 2:25Speaker 2: all this stuff.
- 2:26Speaker 5: But compared to but compare the timing to the no
- 2:28Speaker 5: timing because I didn't know you didn't do timing one.
- 2:31Speaker 4: You're the one you won. Was the first ever timing one?
- 2:33Speaker 5: Yeah, and you just killed it like rhythm, Like to
- 2:36Speaker 5: me if I was because I throw a nasty BP.
- 2:39Speaker 5: If I'm just like ball ball, yeah, like I can
- 2:43Speaker 5: get in a rhythm. But if there's a break, you stop,
- 2:46Speaker 5: you take it.
- 2:47Speaker 2: It's it's gonna be difficult for some but also some
- 2:50Speaker 2: like that. Some guys like until they get something in
- 2:54Speaker 2: their groove spot. And some might be anxious I'm gonna
- 2:56Speaker 2: swing because I've taken too much time.
- 2:58Speaker 3: So but the thing, well, we'll see.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Because they get nineteen nineteen balls that they swing at.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Okay, do you say I hit one?
- 3:10Speaker 5: Come on, keep bringing them for the BP pitcher in
- 3:13Speaker 5: the sense that like I want to test see if
- 3:15Speaker 5: I'm hot, because you could go real quick, six pitches,
- 3:19Speaker 5: six homers. You only have thirteen more because then on
- 3:22Speaker 5: the twentieth each home run that you hit, you just
- 3:25Speaker 5: keep going. There's no like, there's no advantage for your speed.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Do you think going into it, you say one is
- 3:32Speaker 5: one and the next pitch I'm taking my.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Time to get else are gonna take their time not
- 3:37Speaker 4: getting the group?
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean cam Narow is a guy that I
- 3:40Speaker 3: like that.
- 3:41Speaker 2: You know, I could see swing four or five in
- 3:43Speaker 2: a row if he gets really excited. But I do
- 3:47Speaker 2: see I see a lot of veteran guys like Schwarbur
- 3:49Speaker 2: and Harper taking their time. They've done it, they've done it.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It's gonna be it's gonna be different. I mean, we
- 3:54Speaker 2: don't know what to expect. It's the first time it's happening,
- 3:56Speaker 2: just like when I did it for the first time
- 3:58Speaker 2: and then it was timed, but nobody knew.
- 4:00Speaker 5: The last one time. Because the timer versus the outs
- 4:03Speaker 5: is like the biggest part for me. I remember watching
- 4:06Speaker 5: Jazz in Atlanta and it was like he needed a break.
- 4:10Speaker 5: He needed and you can take the time out, but
- 4:13Speaker 5: he needed a break. I think it would help a
- 4:16Speaker 5: guy who's like, oh crap, like I'm fine, okay, I
- 4:19Speaker 5: can step back where if you're in the timer, did
- 4:21Speaker 5: it feel like you were like, I though you want it,
- 4:23Speaker 5: so I guess it doesn't matter.
- 4:24Speaker 4: But no, did you.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Feel like it was you were like gripped by the
- 4:28Speaker 5: time or that the time over?
- 4:30Speaker 3: I felt like you had. I felt like I had
- 4:32Speaker 3: no time when I had plenty of time.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I was down five with like forty five seconds left,
- 4:37Speaker 2: and I remember talking afterwards people like it's over, and
- 4:41Speaker 2: then I went clip clip, miss mess clip, and now
- 4:45Speaker 2: I had like twenty five Yeah, in like twenty seconds,
- 4:49Speaker 2: am I Oh, I got plenty of time. Now clip
- 4:52Speaker 2: and you know I'm brothers thrown quickly.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Yeah, right, Charlie, Charlie was thrown.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But yeah, I knew every time what I had to be,
- 4:59Speaker 2: which helped you want to be the second guy time
- 5:01Speaker 2: for sure.
- 5:02Speaker 5: But but now you're saying you want to be the first.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I would like to be the first. I want to
- 5:06Speaker 2: put the pressure on guys.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Okay, I like that. So who you got?
- 5:13Speaker 3: I mean, you're putting the pressure on me now.
- 5:15Speaker 5: No, I asked you before the show. I need you
- 5:18Speaker 5: to I need you to give me this because this
- 5:20Speaker 5: is the problem.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I mean for me, I'm gonna go with with I'm
- 5:25Speaker 2: gonna stick with Junior Camanawer right now, if I had
- 5:27Speaker 2: to choose one, the two home guys are gonna try
- 5:30Speaker 2: and battle it out, maybe try a little too hard,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and Junior is.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Gonna be like click click.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Do you think it matters going into it how hot
- 5:39Speaker 5: they are at the plate, hitting homers.
- 5:42Speaker 2: No, No, it doesn't apply. It doesn't No, not at
- 5:45Speaker 2: all at all. Just just get them over the fence.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Don't worry about anything else.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Book In summertime, it's cool in the morning, hot during
- 5:52Speaker 5: the day, cool again at night. Rarely am I sitting
- 5:56Speaker 5: there going Oh, I'm just gonna do one thing at
- 5:58Speaker 5: a time. I'm bouncing from work, I'm bouncing in the yard,
- 6:01Speaker 5: I'm running to a game. Fabletics has got me with price,
- 6:06Speaker 5: comfort and versatility, with all the gear that I'm getting
- 6:10Speaker 5: from them.

- 6:14Speaker 1: end brands, but without the price tag. Lightweight, breathable, comfortable,
- 6:18Speaker 1: built to actually last. And if you're going to Fabletics,

- 6:45Speaker 1: for seventy to eighty percent off everything as a new VIP. Well,
- 6:50Speaker 1: the big thing is, do you believe there are any
- 6:53Speaker 1: heat check guys where they'll thrive with that last pitch
- 6:58Speaker 1: that you can keep writing and then you go until
- 7:01Speaker 1: you don't hit a home run? Hey, are we gonna
- 7:03Speaker 1: have one of those moments where a guy does well
- 7:06Speaker 1: but he needs let's say three or four homers and
- 7:09Speaker 1: you're like, oh, this guy can just rack homers at
- 7:12Speaker 1: the end, right if he's got that one pitch.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you call it.
- 7:16Speaker 6: It's clutch, right, And you think that's jud Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I think that's Junior for sure.
- 7:20Speaker 2: You don't think it Sharber, Oh, look can easily do
- 7:24Speaker 2: it too.
- 7:24Speaker 5: In the All Star Game, like he just came out
- 7:27Speaker 5: and it was kind of that format but like tiny,
- 7:30Speaker 5: tiny bit of format, and he was just like, oh
- 7:32Speaker 5: this danger, danger, danger, And everyone's.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Like this suits well for any hitter. Yeah, it's that field.
- 7:39Speaker 3: The field telling oh the field any hitter.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Does anybody hit one, because I think it's gonna be
- 7:44Speaker 5: like ninety two degrees, gonna be hot. Do you think anybody,
- 7:48Speaker 5: any of those lefties reaches the third deck?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Philly, I do. I could see Swarbur doing it.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I can see Harper.
- 7:57Speaker 5: I don't think Harper's. I don't think Harper's got it.
- 8:00Speaker 5: And I'm not trying to call Harper out here.
- 8:02Speaker 4: This is not no no, no, no win it. Harper can win.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I'm talking just crat wow. Wow.
- 8:13Speaker 4: The third deck is all I'm looking for.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I want to know who's getting it to the third
- 8:18Speaker 5: deck because you got to hit it's got to be clipped,
- 8:22Speaker 5: but you also got to have ridiculous hype launch angle.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Like I that's what I want to know. Third deck, lefty, righty's.
- 8:33Speaker 5: I want to know if anybody's gonna hit the.
- 8:37Speaker 6: Well.
- 8:37Speaker 5: It's not the light standard anymore, it's all a scoreboard.
- 8:40Speaker 5: But I want to know if anybody's gonna hit one
- 8:42Speaker 5: over the restaurant. It used to be called Harry the Keys.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Now there's a big lawsuit whatever between the Callous family.
- 8:49Speaker 5: But I want to see if anybody goes over that
- 8:51Speaker 5: because I saw Stanton go over it in batting practice
- 8:54Speaker 5: when he was with when he was Mike Stanton with
- 8:56Speaker 5: the Marlins.
- 8:56Speaker 3: O'Neil Cruz hit some far home runs last year. My god,
- 9:00Speaker 3: oh my god.
- 9:01Speaker 5: And we're going to get to enjoy it. That might
- 9:03Speaker 5: be my favorite part right now is the distance? Where
- 9:07Speaker 5: are we going to be at? And are we going to.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Use less drag balls just like we're using in the games.
- 9:14Speaker 3: We'll say how.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Much smaller are those home run derby balls?
- 9:17Speaker 3: Todd, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 9:20Speaker 4: I need one.
- 9:21Speaker 5: I need to hold one because I heard they are like, wait, wait,
- 9:24Speaker 5: is this something that like you're part of the you're
- 9:26Speaker 5: part of the home run derby crew, and you're not
- 9:28Speaker 5: allowed to talk about how they use different baseballs.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Not at all they do.
- 9:33Speaker 6: Oh my god, juicy juice, juicy juice baseballs.
- 9:38Speaker 4: No, they would call them profar balls.
- 9:41Speaker 3: No, geez, god, you love digging on these guys.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Well, it wasn't my fault either way, exactly.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It should be a fun one one more entertainment, yeah, same,
- 9:53Speaker 1: one more entertainment component. Bryce Harper brought up when the
- 9:57Speaker 1: gold baseballs are brought into play.
- 9:59Speaker 6: He's like, what if we just do aluminum bats. Oh dangerous,
- 10:06Speaker 6: That's what I was thinking of. It definitely doesn't have
- 10:10Speaker 6: his lot degree.
- 10:13Speaker 4: There's no way they could do the illuminum. I mean,
- 10:15Speaker 4: as much as I would.
- 10:16Speaker 5: Want to see it, to the point where I'm not
- 10:19Speaker 5: sure if I told this story or not, But Hunter Pence,
- 10:21Speaker 5: we had a I think Jimmy Rollins did a Red
- 10:25Speaker 5: Bull commercial or something with this bat that they made
- 10:27Speaker 5: that was superjuiced, and Hunter Pence in the playoffs, nobody
- 10:31Speaker 5: was in the stands. The wouldn't let him use it
- 10:33Speaker 5: when some when guys were fans were in the stands
- 10:35Speaker 5: and they made us move everybody big leaguers out of
- 10:39Speaker 5: center field and left field, and he took three swings
- 10:42Speaker 5: with this aluminum.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Bat and he hit it off.
- 10:44Speaker 5: The hit it off the light standard, not the lights
- 10:47Speaker 5: in left field, over top of the restaurant, with this
- 10:50Speaker 5: aluminum bat. So I don't I mean, I would need
- 10:53Speaker 5: to see it. I need to see it, especially with
- 10:55Speaker 5: the new baseball regulations that are going to be coming
- 10:57Speaker 5: to high school.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Yeah, let's break out I we're not even talk about that.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Let's break out of minus five minus six juicy mcjuicers.
- 11:05Speaker 3: I want to ask you about that after the show.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Yeah, we will.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Anyway, But too dangerous if they did that in a ballpark, right,
- 11:13Speaker 1: I mean, you'd have to be like another disclaimer on
- 11:16Speaker 1: the PA announcement during the game. Okay, everyone, I know
- 11:21Speaker 1: that half of you screenagers are buried in your phone
- 11:25Speaker 1: watching the derby even though you're at it, or you're
- 11:27Speaker 1: trying to take a video, thinking that your video is
- 11:29Speaker 1: better than looking at it with your eyeballs. But we
- 11:32Speaker 1: need you to actually look up and potentially put your
- 11:35Speaker 1: hands in front of your face metal protector.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Everybody in the outfield getting just your standard all star
- 11:42Speaker 5: catchers mask.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I mean in your seat is your neon catcher's mask,
- 11:46Speaker 1: and it will light up to light up the ballpark
- 11:48Speaker 1: and also protect you from dying.
- 11:50Speaker 5: You're talking about big leaders. I've seen non big leaders
- 11:53Speaker 5: hit with on on YouTube, hit with these juice bats.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Oh my god, getting up to one hundred and twenty
- 11:59Speaker 5: nine miles in the dude can swing it.
- 12:01Speaker 3: What is that guy's name?
- 12:02Speaker 5: I forget I love Yeah, I won't say until he
- 12:06Speaker 5: comes on to talk one day.
- 12:08Speaker 4: But like big.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Leaguers doing this, Kyle Schwarber, John Carlos, Stanton, guys that
- 12:14Speaker 5: are in the top tier of hitting the ball as
- 12:17Speaker 5: hard as they can with a wood bat with a
- 12:20Speaker 5: metal bat.
- 12:20Speaker 4: I yeah, I want to see it. I'll be honest,
- 12:23Speaker 4: I want to see it me too.

- 13:30Speaker 1: on the show. It's good to see you. It's good
- 13:32Speaker 1: to see you back this season. And what a week
- 13:34Speaker 1: it's been. How fun was this week for you?
- 13:37Speaker 7: Yeah, it was pretty cool. Going six perfect is pretty fun.
- 13:43Speaker 4: When did you know you were perfect in the first inning?
- 13:48Speaker 7: First inning? One, two, three, all right, we got one roll?
- 13:51Speaker 4: All right, but that's like, that's not that's not bad.
- 13:56Speaker 4: That's not bad.
- 13:56Speaker 5: You got you go out there, we're gonna get to
- 13:59Speaker 5: your pitch count obviously all that stuff.
- 14:01Speaker 4: But take us.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Into the bullpen before that start, before like are you
- 14:07Speaker 5: is it coming out? And you're like, yo, I'm legit today,
- 14:11Speaker 5: like it's coming out hot.
- 14:13Speaker 7: Uh, yeah, I think it was. The bullpen was pretty good,
- 14:17Speaker 7: probably not my best, but yeah, it was good. I
- 14:19Speaker 7: didn't feel anything like, oh yeah I feel super good
- 14:22Speaker 7: today or I feel terrible. It's kind of just a
- 14:24Speaker 7: normal one. And then yeah, what happened happened.
- 14:28Speaker 4: All right, So what happened happened. That's fine.
- 14:30Speaker 5: But then you're coming down the steps and the like
- 14:34Speaker 5: avoid it. I'm trying to read it. Obviously we're not
- 14:37Speaker 5: in the moment. I know, don Kelly's taller than you are,
- 14:39Speaker 5: so he's trying to always like hover over you. But
- 14:43Speaker 5: that was like a funny moment where you're just avoiding
- 14:46Speaker 5: him to go down the steps. Do you think you
- 14:48Speaker 5: could have hid the entire half an inning down there
- 14:51Speaker 5: without and then just ran back out to the mound
- 14:55Speaker 5: or were you like, no, I know you're gonna take
- 14:57Speaker 5: me out because I haven't gone over eighty pitches since
- 14:59Speaker 5: I've been back off the il.
- 15:02Speaker 7: Yeah. I was really just supposed to go five and
- 15:05Speaker 7: then the trainer in DK came up to me was like, hey,
- 15:08Speaker 7: you feel good, and I was like, yeah, do you
- 15:10Speaker 7: want another one? And I was like next question, like, yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 7: of course I want another one? But uh yeah, that
- 15:15Speaker 7: that room that I go down to in between innings,
- 15:18Speaker 7: it actually does lock if you close it. So if
- 15:22Speaker 7: I made it down the steps, I probably could have
- 15:24Speaker 7: fit from it and just ran back out.
- 15:26Speaker 5: Wait wait wait, wait it locks now before it just
- 15:29Speaker 5: used to be a cage, like a fenced cage that
- 15:31Speaker 5: was just out of the sun. So it locks, like
- 15:34Speaker 5: this is big this is big time news for ex Pirate.
- 15:38Speaker 7: Yeah, it's like a full blown door. I've definitely gotten
- 15:41Speaker 7: pissed off sometimes and shut the door while I'm walking
- 15:45Speaker 7: out and I left my glove and everything in there,
- 15:46Speaker 7: and I have to panic and call someone to open
- 15:49Speaker 7: open it back up. But yeah, that thing locks.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Now wait, wait, you keep you keep diverting me from
- 15:55Speaker 5: my next question. You locked your glove in that room.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Why does it? Why does it lock? It's not the
- 16:02Speaker 5: video room. Is it because you can't get in the
- 16:04Speaker 5: video room?
- 16:05Speaker 7: No? No, it's uh so you go down the steps.
- 16:08Speaker 7: I was in the video you kind of see me
- 16:10Speaker 7: heading down there, and then you go to the door,
- 16:13Speaker 7: probably two more steps after the steps down, and uh yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 7: it's just like a picture's room whenever it's hot outside.
- 16:22Speaker 5: All right, all right, yeah, you need to get out
- 16:24Speaker 5: of the elements when it's hot in Pittsburgh. But you
- 16:26Speaker 5: said you were only going five innings. I looked at
- 16:29Speaker 5: your last like every since you came off the ail.
- 16:32Speaker 5: Is this plan moving forward the rest of the season?
- 16:36Speaker 5: In the sense that some days we don't care about
- 16:38Speaker 5: your pitch down. It's going to be five innings, is it?
- 16:40Speaker 5: Some days you know your cap is seventy five pitches.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Has this been talked about and have there been arguments
- 16:47Speaker 5: or pushback from you?
- 16:51Speaker 7: It's kind of more of me in the trainer, kind
- 16:53Speaker 7: of go week by week, see hol I'm feeling and
- 16:56Speaker 7: stuff like that. Coming off with surgery. There are times
- 16:59Speaker 7: where it doesn't feel great and there's times where I
- 17:01Speaker 7: feel fantastic. But I don't think it'll be the same
- 17:06Speaker 7: five innings throughout the entire season. I'm sure at some
- 17:08Speaker 7: point I'll get to a leash to get a little
- 17:11Speaker 7: bit longer. But yeah, for now, it is what it is.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Well, enough about you, let's talk about the team here
- 17:18Speaker 2: a little bit. You know, it seems like you always
- 17:20Speaker 2: have these spurts of being really really good and then
- 17:23Speaker 2: ebbs and flows, and then all of a sudden, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 2: this Pirate team goes back a little bit. I played
- 17:28Speaker 2: there a little bit. I know Brian Reynolds really good, dude,
- 17:31Speaker 2: really awesome. He's probably one of the fearless leaders on
- 17:33Speaker 2: that team. Where do you see this team? You guys
- 17:35Speaker 2: are five games out of the wildcard. You see this
- 17:37Speaker 2: team making a push come, you know, late August into September.
- 17:42Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely. I mean I don't think collectively as a team,
- 17:45Speaker 7: we've played our best baseball yet this year. Like you said,
- 17:49Speaker 7: like there's days where the hitters are hot and us
- 17:52Speaker 7: as the staff isn't, and we end up losing the game.
- 17:55Speaker 7: Vice versa where the pitchers are hot and we end
- 17:59Speaker 7: up running into a guy he throws seven to shuddy
- 18:01Speaker 7: against us and we end up losing that way. And
- 18:03Speaker 7: then there's also games where we click as a team
- 18:06Speaker 7: and we win ten to one or whatever it is.
- 18:10Speaker 7: But yeah, once everyone starts getting clicking a little bit
- 18:14Speaker 7: more at the same time, I think will be a
- 18:15Speaker 7: pretty damn good team.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Do you think you're already a pretty good team now?
- 18:20Speaker 5: But do you think that clicking together is because you
- 18:24Speaker 5: guys haven't played together, like the team was essentially a
- 18:27Speaker 5: lot of starters were put together besides your rotation before
- 18:31Speaker 5: the season or is it just something that whatever it's
- 18:34Speaker 5: season to season.
- 18:35Speaker 7: I think it's just the seasons. The season, we've definitely
- 18:38Speaker 7: have some guys going through some tough times and guys
- 18:40Speaker 7: who were playing really well. Once we get the guys
- 18:45Speaker 7: who are struggling to pick it up a little bit,
- 18:47Speaker 7: including myself. I think it's gonna be a pretty fun
- 18:51Speaker 7: second half a right.
- 18:53Speaker 5: One of the things that Paul said the other day
- 18:55Speaker 5: when he got named an All Star, he was surprised
- 18:58Speaker 5: when he looked at the list. He said, none of
- 19:01Speaker 5: our position players we here because we have no I
- 19:04Speaker 5: couldn't hit a slider, and Todd doesn't play anything anymore.
- 19:08Speaker 5: We have no skin in the game. Do you guys
- 19:11Speaker 5: talk about All Star snubs?
- 19:13Speaker 4: Do you talk? Is that something in the clubhouse where
- 19:15Speaker 4: you go? Man, how on earth did.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Brandon Lowell not get anything? How on earth did this
- 19:20Speaker 5: guy like? Is that talked about between you guys?
- 19:23Speaker 7: Yeah, kind of more like small talk. I think brand
- 19:26Speaker 7: A Love was the best second basement in the league.
- 19:27Speaker 7: I think Brian's definitely a top three outfield in the league.
- 19:31Speaker 7: And Ryan O'Hearn is playing outfield in first base and
- 19:34Speaker 7: he's hitting like what two ninety was sixteen. I think
- 19:38Speaker 7: that's a pretty worthy three trio of All Stars there,
- 19:42Speaker 7: And yeah, they didn't get in, and we think it's
- 19:44Speaker 7: pretty disrespectful.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Wait, you talked about O'Hearn, Did you agree with Paul Skeins'
- 19:50Speaker 5: comments that it was kind of selfish of him to
- 19:52Speaker 5: hit three home runs, because I love the comment and
- 19:55Speaker 5: I love that kind of clubhouse like sarcasm, dry humor.
- 19:59Speaker 4: But did you a absolutely?
- 20:02Speaker 7: I mean, like like Paul said, they're rally killers and
- 20:04Speaker 7: stuff like that, there's no way to drive it in.
- 20:06Speaker 7: So kind of just entered the innings for us and
- 20:08Speaker 7: he took all the RBIs away. So selfish, selfish, right, absolutely,
- 20:13Speaker 7: very selfish.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Okay.
- 20:14Speaker 5: So, so who's the most selfish in that sense in
- 20:17Speaker 5: this like smiling sarcasm, joking sense. Who's the most selfish
- 20:21Speaker 5: on the pitching staff?
- 20:27Speaker 7: Probably Ashcraft. He's taking away a lot of zero from
- 20:29Speaker 7: other guys right now, and it's it's not fair.
- 20:32Speaker 5: And he doesn't let and he doesn't let the position
- 20:35Speaker 5: players play. He just goes out and strikes guys out,
- 20:38Speaker 5: and he's like, why are you guys even out here?
- 20:40Speaker 5: I mean I saw him turn around one time after
- 20:42Speaker 5: a three strikeout inning and I thought he said, I
- 20:45Speaker 5: don't need you guys. But hey, it's not it's not
- 20:47Speaker 5: quoted nothing like that.
- 20:50Speaker 7: I don't disagree with you. I mean, he thinks he's
- 20:53Speaker 7: a one man wrecking Crew and I guess it's just
- 20:56Speaker 7: not a team sport for him.
- 21:00Speaker 3: This is great. I want to talk about you again.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Is there any you know, coming back from surgery and
- 21:05Speaker 2: injury and that stuff.
- 21:07Speaker 3: What are you just for this year? Now you're back
- 21:09Speaker 3: like you're ready to go.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I know there's a pitch limit and all that, but
- 21:12Speaker 2: is there any like goals that you set aside now
- 21:14Speaker 2: knowing that you're only going to play for a couple
- 21:16Speaker 2: of months, you know? Or is it just just try
- 21:19Speaker 2: and be healthy and figure things out so I can
- 21:21Speaker 2: be ready for next year getting these boys going.
- 21:25Speaker 7: Yeah, a little bit of both. I want to stay
- 21:27Speaker 7: in the field the whole year. I haven't done that
- 21:28Speaker 7: yet since I've I've been a big League, so that's
- 21:31Speaker 7: I would call it a goal for me. Is not
- 21:33Speaker 7: missing any starts and then really just having better numbers
- 21:38Speaker 7: selfishly than I did in twenty twenty four.
- 21:42Speaker 5: Dude, better numbers is not selfish, there's no It's a
- 21:45Speaker 5: it's a team game played by individuals. You're going out like,
- 21:48Speaker 5: it's not like you're going to hit a dinger. So don't,
- 21:50Speaker 5: in my opinion, don't apologize for wanting to have better numbers.
- 21:53Speaker 5: That's just the name of the game. You talked about
- 21:56Speaker 5: it earlier. We just talked about your your injury and
- 21:58Speaker 5: rehab and now back. What is that process of talking
- 22:01Speaker 5: to your trainer? Is there one trainer? Do you have
- 22:04Speaker 5: to talk to all sixteen trainers that the that the
- 22:07Speaker 5: Pirates employ? Is it a annoying process? Do you lie
- 22:12Speaker 5: to your trainer? Like because there's so many pictures And
- 22:15Speaker 5: I say that because so many pictures are like, hey,
- 22:17Speaker 5: how you feel today?
- 22:18Speaker 4: Good? Or is it different now because I've been out
- 22:21Speaker 4: of the game for a while.
- 22:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I feel like I've been pretty transparent
- 22:26Speaker 7: with the guys. It's really just one guy I've been
- 22:29Speaker 7: working with since they came back, and I feel pretty
- 22:32Speaker 7: transparent about how I'm feeling on a day to day level,
- 22:35Speaker 7: Like I had to start two weeks ago, or I
- 22:39Speaker 7: came in the next day and it was I was
- 22:41Speaker 7: hanging and I let them know. So we got some
- 22:43Speaker 7: we got some stuff done in the training room and
- 22:45Speaker 7: felt great two days later.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Cap I've been looking for the best deals for the
- 22:51Speaker 5: All Star Game tickets in Philly.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Where are you gonna get some tickets from?
- 22:55Speaker 8: I'm going straight out to Rye Field if Harper and
- 22:58Speaker 8: Schwarber both joined the home run der, I want to
- 23:00Speaker 8: be catching the hometown guys hitting them, So I'm going
- 23:02Speaker 8: out to the right field kind of where I think
- 23:04Speaker 8: I could get the best chance of catching one of
- 23:05Speaker 8: those home.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Runs, maybe in the second deck. You can go on
- 23:09Speaker 5: the app and you can look to see what your
- 23:10Speaker 5: view is going to because the boys are going to

- 23:44Speaker 5: Thank you to sea Geek and we'll see you at
- 23:46Speaker 5: the game.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Hey, can you talk to me about how you've studied
- 23:50Speaker 1: the longevity component and the velocity factor into results. I
- 23:55Speaker 1: know you can eloquently state this better than I can.
- 23:58Speaker 1: But like figuring out you know where your sweet spot is,
- 24:01Speaker 1: how that helps you and starts and how velocity isn't
- 24:04Speaker 1: I mean, of course it helps with punch outs, but
- 24:07Speaker 1: a point down is not going to make a difference
- 24:09Speaker 1: if you've got your stuff crisp.
- 24:12Speaker 7: Yeah. I mean, if I'm throwing the fastball slider, change
- 24:16Speaker 7: it up exactly where I want it to. I don't
- 24:18Speaker 7: need it to be one hundred and ninety five and
- 24:21Speaker 7: ninety It could be a couple of ticks down or
- 24:23Speaker 7: a couple of ticks up, depending on the day. But
- 24:25Speaker 7: if I'm throwing it where I want it, like like
- 24:28Speaker 7: I did a couple of days ago, show some pretty
- 24:31Speaker 7: good results.
- 24:33Speaker 4: So do they ask you, whoa, whoa, Hey, you're only
- 24:37Speaker 4: throwing ninety four? What's the deal? They do? They are?
- 24:40Speaker 4: They are?
- 24:41Speaker 5: They so nervous because I know people in the media
- 24:44Speaker 5: are so nervous when Jared Jones is throwing ninety nine,
- 24:47Speaker 5: ninety nine, ninety nine, and then the next inning he's
- 24:49Speaker 5: ninety four. But it's a one two, three six pitch in.
- 24:53Speaker 7: No, nobody's really asked. I also haven't had that velocity
- 24:57Speaker 7: dip in a game yet, I've started off a couple
- 24:59Speaker 7: of with ninety six mile hour heaters, and I think
- 25:02Speaker 7: that's the slowest I've thrown this year. Nothing really less
- 25:07Speaker 7: than that, but throughout the inning it comes back pitch
- 25:11Speaker 7: by pitch.
- 25:13Speaker 5: All Right, Paul Skeens hasn't been otherworldly, He's just been
- 25:16Speaker 5: all star. So watching from Afar or like looks exactly
- 25:21Speaker 5: the same to me. Just some balls are falling in.
- 25:24Speaker 5: What do you see from this guy? And do you
- 25:27Speaker 5: are you the guy to keep his ego in check?
- 25:30Speaker 4: Or is it? Or is it Bubba?
- 25:33Speaker 7: It's definitely not Bubba.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Bubba's He's the last.
- 25:39Speaker 7: I'll leave it at that, Bubba's Bubba. But yeah, it's
- 25:42Speaker 7: it's it's a bunch of playful stuff, kind of giving
- 25:46Speaker 7: each other some some shit, and you know it's it's
- 25:50Speaker 7: all playful but meaningful at the same time. But yeah,
- 25:55Speaker 7: it's kind of funny scrolling through Twitter and stuff like that,
- 25:58Speaker 7: and you see Paul Skeins is been terrible this year,
- 26:01Speaker 7: and I'm sure any picture in the world would love
- 26:04Speaker 7: to have the year he's having right now. So I
- 26:07Speaker 7: feel like that speaks to how really good he is
- 26:09Speaker 7: as a pitcher. When his down years still pretty.
- 26:12Speaker 5: Good, still in line to possibly if he wasn't starting
- 26:16Speaker 5: on Sunday, possibly starting an All Star Games. So I
- 26:19Speaker 5: gain exactly he went from Superman to like just really awesome.
- 26:24Speaker 5: But yeah, you talked about you just said how like
- 26:28Speaker 5: guys go through ebbs and flows during the season. Do
- 26:31Speaker 5: you see a difference in Paul's schemes or anybody else
- 26:35Speaker 5: on your staff when they have a good start and
- 26:39Speaker 5: when they have a bad start, Because to me, that's
- 26:41Speaker 5: the level of professionalism that is this guy the same guy.
- 26:45Speaker 5: He's super chatty when he goes six inning with ten punchouts,
- 26:49Speaker 5: but then he goes six with like four punch outs
- 26:51Speaker 5: and he's like, eh, whatever, I don't really want to
- 26:53Speaker 5: talk to guys.
- 26:55Speaker 7: Not really. I feel like that's the thing I really
- 26:57Speaker 7: like most about our staff is that we all show
- 26:59Speaker 7: up same guy every single day. Even after someone has
- 27:04Speaker 7: bats start, they're in the dugout the next day, cracking
- 27:07Speaker 7: jokes and all that good stuff. So yeah, I feel
- 27:11Speaker 7: like our staff as a whole just the same guy
- 27:14Speaker 7: every day and it's really fun to be around.
- 27:16Speaker 4: All Right.
- 27:16Speaker 5: I gotta ask about Connor Griffin because my son is
- 27:20Speaker 5: seventeen years old. He plays the outfield. He hits left handed,
- 27:22Speaker 5: so he's nothing compared to Connor Griffin at all. But
- 27:25Speaker 5: he has the same facial hair and I'm like, I
- 27:28Speaker 5: don't think that's like the He's like, d I'm growing
- 27:31Speaker 5: it out like Connor Griffin does. I was like, I
- 27:32Speaker 5: don't think that's like the number one game. I know
- 27:35Speaker 5: he's hurt right now. Is there something that you guys
- 27:39Speaker 5: give Connor Griffin, the baby on your team a hard
- 27:42Speaker 5: time for? That just still makes you laugh even though
- 27:45Speaker 5: he's on the aisl right now not able to play.
- 27:47Speaker 7: Yeah, his locker's a mess. I mean he's got maybe
- 27:50Speaker 7: twenty cleats in his locker. It's not a mess, but
- 27:53Speaker 7: he's got like an overflowing locker. So a lot of
- 27:55Speaker 7: guys whenever we walk past it just kind of give
- 27:58Speaker 7: him a nudge on the shoulder, talk a little talk,
- 28:01Speaker 7: a little bit about it, and then yeah, just kind
- 28:03Speaker 7: of move on.
- 28:07Speaker 4: His mom needed to tell him the cleanest room, that's what.
- 28:09Speaker 7: Yeah, young years old, I couldn't imagine being where he's
- 28:15Speaker 7: at when I was twenty years old.
- 28:17Speaker 4: What was your Where were you at at twenty years old?
- 28:19Speaker 4: Were you in hi a.
- 28:21Speaker 7: At that time I was in I was in higher Greensboro.
- 28:24Speaker 4: How messy was your life? Oh in Greensboro too, you
- 28:27Speaker 4: were grinding.
- 28:27Speaker 5: It was hot at this was your locker messy at
- 28:29Speaker 5: that point.
- 28:31Speaker 7: No, I came in with I was the only high
- 28:35Speaker 7: schooler and a college in our draft. So we had
- 28:38Speaker 7: six college guys come in, so I had I had
- 28:41Speaker 7: to grow up pretty quickly.
- 28:42Speaker 5: Wait, yeah, so I mean when I was the last
- 28:45Speaker 5: year I was with the Pirates, they actually gave the
- 28:47Speaker 5: minor leaguers a paper that showed what your locker needs
- 28:52Speaker 5: to look like when you go out to the field
- 28:55Speaker 5: and when you leave. So maybe Connor Griffin didn't spend
- 28:58Speaker 5: enough time in the minor leagues till the Pirate way
- 29:01Speaker 5: of stacking your locker because you had to like put
- 29:03Speaker 5: your chair up on top of your locker. I know
- 29:05Speaker 5: the big leagues are different, but maybe he just didn't learn.
- 29:08Speaker 7: We didn't have that when I came in in twenty
- 29:10Speaker 7: When I first got drafted in twenty twenty, we didn't
- 29:12Speaker 7: have anything like that.
- 29:14Speaker 5: This was sixteen, so I mean it's a different regime
- 29:16Speaker 5: and everything. That was what he used to do, like
- 29:18Speaker 5: all the like Navy yeah, yeah, yeah, like fill a
- 29:22Speaker 5: bucket up with a spoon in the sand at four am,
- 29:26Speaker 5: like this crazy stuff.
- 29:28Speaker 7: Yeah, I've heard stories of that. I think that ended
- 29:31Speaker 7: in nineteen so the year before me was the last year.
- 29:35Speaker 4: No wonder all these rookies are soft now, No one
- 29:38Speaker 4: I see it.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Wait one fan question off this just I like the
- 29:43Speaker 1: inside access stuff, right, so how much free stuff gets
- 29:48Speaker 1: thrown around or sent at least to certain players in
- 29:51Speaker 1: the clubhouse and like this is the ultimate first world
- 29:54Speaker 1: pro athlete problem. But like how crazy can it be
- 29:56Speaker 1: to stay organized there? Because also sometimes people are like, well,
- 30:01Speaker 1: there's somebody that can do something for everyone in a clubhouse, right,
- 30:04Speaker 1: somebody is going to each locker and organizing everything because
- 30:07Speaker 1: I think they look at klubbies as these superstars, which
- 30:09Speaker 1: they are. But I mean they're doing the laundry and
- 30:11Speaker 1: they're getting them whatever they need. But the club he's
- 30:14Speaker 1: not sitting at each person's locker being like, Okay, let's
- 30:16Speaker 1: put all of your cleats in the corner here or.
- 30:18Speaker 6: Can they do that? I don't know, tell me what
- 30:20Speaker 6: it's like in there.
- 30:22Speaker 7: No, Like, like I said, Connor's got a incredibly full locker,
- 30:27Speaker 7: so he's got a lot of stuff going on, like
- 30:29Speaker 7: Diaz stuff sent them all the time. But yeah, it's
- 30:33Speaker 7: nothing of the sort where it needs to be like
- 30:35Speaker 7: a super clean or anything like that. But yeah, our
- 30:39Speaker 7: clubies do a pretty good job around here.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Yeah, they crush it. Hey, Jared, great to talk to you, man.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Great start the other day. Enjoy the break too, and
- 30:48Speaker 1: good luck in the second half.
- 30:49Speaker 7: Yeah, appreciate it.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 30:51Speaker 2: They usually have a lot an empty locker next to
- 30:54Speaker 2: them in the big leagues, you remember that. Yeah, not
- 30:56Speaker 2: for the rookies though, Yeah, but still sometimes rookie to
- 31:00Speaker 2: be the last ones.
- 31:01Speaker 5: I especially in Pittsburgh, you were in that locker room.
- 31:03Speaker 5: It's nice, but it's not. Everybody's getting an empty one
- 31:06Speaker 5: just you just those hem run derby stars, wow, Little
- 31:11Speaker 5: League champions.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Awkward.
- 31:15Speaker 1: But when they used to do September call ups and
- 31:16Speaker 1: you could have ninety players on your roster and then
- 31:19Speaker 1: you'd go to one of super small visiting clubhouses.
- 31:23Speaker 6: Right like Wrigley, you'd be like, this is all.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I mean, you know, Todd Father, you went through some
