  him more. Let's hear today's play from

  John 21. Jesus said this to indicate the

  kind of death by which Peter would

  glorify God. Then he said to him,

  "Follow me." Man, here's a question
• 0:23
  worth sitting with as another year comes
• 0:25
  to a close. If your life ended today,
• 0:28
  would it glorify God? Jesus didn't just
• 0:31
  predict Peter's death. He defined its
• 0:33
  purpose. Peter would die in a way that
• 0:36
  glorified God. His final moment would
• 0:39
  match the direction of his life.

  Obedient, [snorts]

  faithful, surrendered, and on mission.

  So, here's the question for us. Will
• 0:46
  that be our lives? We may not all die by
• 0:49
  crucifixion like Peter, but we are all
• 0:52
  called to die on mission. We can die
• 0:54
  sharing the gospel. We can die serving
• 0:57
  people in the ways that display the
• 0:59
  gospel. We can die praying, giving,
• 1:01
  discipling, and labor. Laboring so that
• 1:04
  Christ is known. The timing and location
• 1:07
  of our death, it may defer, but the
• 1:09
  purpose books not. Here's the truth. You
• 1:12
  won't glorify God at the end if you
• 1:14
  don't live for him along the way. Now,
• 1:16
  no man suddenly becomes faithful on his
• 1:19
  last day. What we practice daily is what
• 1:22
  we'll be found doing eventually. That
• 1:24
  means the finish is decided long before
• 1:26
  the final moment. And this reshapes how
• 1:29
  we think about retirement. Scripture
• 1:31
  never speaks of retiring from God's
• 1:33
  mission. Retirement is simply moving
• 1:35
  from the vocation that paid the bills to
• 1:38
  full freedom for our true occupation,
• 1:40
  the glory of God through making
• 1:42
  disciples. The mission field may change,
• 1:44
  but the mission doesn't. We're not
• 1:47
  waiting to die. We're preparing to
• 1:48
  finish faithfully. So run today's play.

  Ask yourself, what would need to change
• 1:54
  today for my life to clearly glorify God
• 1:57
  if it ended tomorrow? Then take one step
• 2:00
  of obedience. Re-engage, reorder,
• 2:03
  refocus. Follow Jesus now so that

  whether by life or by death, God is
• 2:08
