Tokyo's Idogawa Ward veered onto a sidewalk and crashed into two

1:20
outage in the nearby area. Two Vietnamese men were arrested
1:25
for allegedly trespassing into the House of the Setagaya family
1:29
murder, which happened 25 years ago.

preserved vacant house attempting to steal valuables.

Japan's long term interest rates rose to 2.6% on May 13th, a 29
2:53
year high. This increase is driven by
2:56
global inflation concerns and rising oil prices.
3:00
Despite the Bank of Japan's hawkish stance, some analysts
3:03
now believe a 3% long term interest rate is possible.
3:08
Honda announced its last fiscal year's financial results,
3:12
reporting an operating loss of ¥414.3 billion and a net loss of
3:18
¥423.9 billion. This is Honda's first operating
3:23
and net loss since its listing, mainly due to losses from
3:27
electric vehicle development. Osaka police dismissed Inspector
3:32
Shin Goto, 52, on May 14th. He was charged with stealing
3:37
¥10.11 million from a suspicious death scene in March.
3:42
Goto admitted to taking the cash, citing secret debts.
3:46
The money was later returned to the victim's family.
3:56
The Liberal Democratic Party has approved a bill to amend the
4:00
Code of Criminal Procedure. This amendment will generally
4:04
forbid prosecutors from appealing decisions to begin a
4:07
retrial. A retrial means a new trial.
4:11
The LDP approved this on the 14th at a special general
4:15
counsel meeting aiming to revise the retrial system.
4:20
Japan's Blue Ticket system for bicycle violations began in
4:24
April 2026. In its first month, 2147 tickets
4:31
were issued nationwide. Failure to stop accounted for
4:34
40% of violations, followed by distracted riding.
4:38
Tokyo had the highest number. Additionally, 135,855 guidance
4:45
and warning slips were issued, exceeding last year's monthly
4:48
average. In Hiroshima City, numerous bear
4:54
sightings in a residential area led to 11 nearby schools closing
4:58
on May 14th. Police received reports of bears
5:01
appearing in Sayaki Ward from early morning until night on May
5:05
13th. The closures affected
5:07
elementary, junior high and high schools in the area.
5:11
On May 14th morning, several people broke into a home in
5:16
Commonokawa town, Tochigi Prefecture.
5:20
Three family members were beaten with a crowbar like object.
5:24
A 69 year old mother died. Police are investigating this as
5:28
a robbery. They have secured one man
5:30
suspected of being involved in the incident.
5:34
Two Vietnamese nationals were arrested for suspected attempted
5:39
theft. This happened after intrusion
5:41
signs were found last December at the Setagaya house.
5:45
This house was the scene of the unsolved murder of a family of
5:49
four, which occurred 26 years ago.
5:52
Police are investigating. Two people, including an Ibaraki
5:58
pet shop owner, were arrested. They are suspected of capturing
6:02
Ryukyu leaf turtles, a national natural monument in Okinawa.
6:07
It's believed they sent the turtles to the shop via parcel
6:10
delivery, hidden in laundry Nets and disguised as clothing. 6
6:17
individuals, including a Tokyo investment agency manager, were
6:22
arrested. They are suspected of illegally
6:25
raising about ¥87 billion. They allegedly sold unregistered
6:31
overseas financial products promising a 12% annual return.
6:36
The agency reportedly used non disclosure agreements to expand
6:41
its investor base. Osaka prefectural police
6:45
dismissed inspector Shin Goto, 52, He was indicted for stealing

6:59
The police recovered the stolen money and returned it to the
7:02
deceased family. The government is considering
7:06
electricity and gas subsidies for July to September.
7:11
This aims to reduce household costs during high cooling demand
7:15
as prices are expected to rise due to Middle East tensions.
7:20
Funding options include using reserve funds or a supplementary
7:25
budget for fiscal year 2026. 15 years after the Fukushima
7:31
Daiichi accident, Tokyo Electric Power company TEPCO has resumed
7:36
commercial operations. In April, TEPCO restarted its
7:41
Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant after a 14 year halt.
7:46
This is a significant step following the unprecedented
7:49
nuclear disaster. To give a business can then on
7:55
use this. Japan's long term interest rates
8:01
climbed to 2.6%, a 29 year high. This rise reflects global
8:08
inflation worries and higher oil prices.
8:12
Market expectations for further rate hikes are increasing, with
8:16
some analysts seeing rates reaching 3%.
8:20
Despite the Bank of Japan's hawkish stance, there is still a
8:24
risk of its actions lagging market trends.
8:28
Honda reported its first net loss since listing in 1957, with
8:33
a ¥423.9 billion deficit for the fiscal year ending March 2026.
8:40
This was mainly due to a ¥1.57 trillion loss from canceling 3
8:45
electric vehicle models development amid a cooling USEV
8:49
market. Honda expects to return to
8:52
profit next fiscal year. Kalbi will raise prices on 25
8:58
products including potato chips and Jagarico from September 1st.
9:03
Potato chips will increase by 5 to 10% and Jagarico by three to
9:09
10%. This is due to rising costs for
9:12
ingredients like potatoes and increased transport expenses.
9:16
Some larger bags will also reduce content while keeping
9:19
prices unchanged. The Liberal Democratic Party's
9:24
general counsel has approved an amendment to the Criminal
9:27
Procedure Code. This revision aims to reform
9:31
Japan's retrial system. The key change will, in
9:35
principle, prohibit prosecutors from appealing decisions made to
9:40
grant a retrial. This move seeks to streamline
9:43
the process for those seeking a review of past convictions.
9:48
A bill to establish a new disaster prevention agency has
9:52
been approved by a lower house special committee.
9:56
The Prime Minister stated the agency would mobilize all forces
10:00
from industry, academia, government and the private
10:04
sector. This initiative aims to
10:06
strengthen Japan's disaster response capabilities and
10:10
improve coordination in prevention efforts.
10:14
Bank of Japan board member Hajime Masu stated that an early
10:18
rate hike is desirable if no clear signs of an economic
10:22
downturn appear. He also noted that the Middle
10:25
East situation potentially causing energy shortages could
10:29
lead to both economic slowdown and rising prices, posing
10:33
difficult judgments for central banks.
10:37
The Railway Bureau director Tetsuto Igarashi apologized to
10:43
Nippon Ishin Nokai lawmakers for inappropriate remarks regarding
10:48
the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension.
10:52
He had suggested that if cost benefit analysis alone decided
10:56
projects, politics wouldn't be needed.
10:59
Igarashi retracted his comments and the ministry issued A strict
11:04
verbal warning. The government is considering
11:07
subsidies for electricity and gas prices this summer.
11:12
This move comes as prices are expected to rise further due to
11:16
the Middle East situation. The conflict is causing an
11:19
increase in the cost of liquefied natural gas, which is
11:23
crucial for thermal power generation, impacting household
11:27
utility bills. There were sports and you saw
11:32

11:55
both major leagues, highlighting his dominant start.

12:04
milestone last night. In the 12th inning against
12:07
Hiroshima, he hit a walk off 3 run home run.
