- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Hey guys, welcome back to episode 31.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Um, today we are going to be talking about the flow of the spirit and just really getting into um the fruit of the spirit and the main scripture point today is going to be in Galatians.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Um but before we do anything, you know I always like to start in prayer.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Um so let's get started.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Dear Heavenly Father, I just thank you so much for this time together.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: I just ask that you open our hearts and our minds, that you fill us up with your Holy Spirit.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Father, I just pray over every single listener, Father, that you touch their hearts today, that you speak to them today, and I just ask that you speak through me, Father, giving this message, Father.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: So first um we're gonna jump into the scripture where it's talking about the fruit of the Spirit.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Um, and so in Galatians uh chapter 5, verse 22 says, But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, kindness, uh, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: So before we get into anything else, I want to ask why.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Why do we strive to have these fruits of the spirit?
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: I bet you there's many answers to this question, you know.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Um, because we want to be like Christ, because we want to make him happy, uh, because we want to represent being a child of God, and so we want to have this good stewarded Christian godly character, right?
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: But unfortunately, all of those pro answers are no, actually.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Um however, yes, we we do want to be like Christ, right?
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: We do want to make him happy.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Yes, we do want to be a good uh child of God, and yes, we do want to have godly character.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Like, yes, that is still like a yes, but why we have the fruits and why we have the fruit of the spirit as far as that, the answer is no.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: And uh if we're looking at it like that, then we're doing it all wrong.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And so I wanna I wanna talk about why, because so many times we do things for Christ for the wrong reasons, and we don't mean to, because you know, we have good intentions and we do love the Lord, but we are missing a key ingredient or you know, a key instruction that the Lord gives us in the Bible.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: And we don't have to strive through these fruits, you know, our goodness and patience, love, kindness, etc.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: Like all the fruits for Christ.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: We don't do it for him to make him happy, for him, to be like him, for him, okay?
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: But we do it through him.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Through Christ.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: And so I bet you you're asking me, what does that mean?
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Through him.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: How do we do that through him?
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: So I wanna kind of share a testimony about myself lately.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Um, but as you guys know, I love to be wrong, but I have no problem uh talking about my own junk because in all honesty, we're all trying to make it in life together.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: We're all, you know, just going along as Christians, and we all sin and there's no point in acting like I don't do anything wrong, right?
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: So, um so yeah, yeah.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: So recently I've been really struggling with my anger.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: Um, I will say that my anger has always been my kryptonite.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: I've always kind of had anger issues.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Um, and so long story short, um I'm a teacher at a high school, and so I was doing pretty good, and then come June, right when like the end of the year was hitting, a lot started unfolding for me, like life-changing things for me.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: So long story short, I won't get into it too crazy, but um my mom was selling her house about an hour away from me and was moving in with me, and so there was a lot of help with moving with my mom, um, you know, getting things cleaned out, whatnot, all all the moving fun and um getting her moved in my house, and as well as my brother-in-law also um needed to move out and needed to move into my house, so I had to move two people into my home um within these 30 days of June, um, all while trying to finish up work and the school year, and so it was so much life-changing things, and mind you, I have a three-bedroom, two-bathouse.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Like I have a normal standard house, it's not super big, not super small, you know, it's just like a normal little three-bedroom, two bathhouse.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: And so if you can paint the picture of of having, you know, me and my husband have a room and the baby has the room, then we weren't necessarily having all this room for these extra added people.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: And so the Lord had obviously laid it on my heart, and obviously I was going to do the Lord's will, and I was obviously going to give all that I have because that's the point, is that we lay down our life for him and for his will.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Um, however, I was so not prepared for the season to come.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: And so I'm I was struggling with my anger.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: I was I just started getting angry so easily, like over little things, like angry that I ran into a red light, or angry that, you know, packing up my mom's house wasn't going as fast as I wanted it to that day, or angry that the baby would be crying on the way home, or like I was just becoming like angry a lot, and so that was really bothering me because I I knew that that was kind of like the old me self, right?
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Before I was saved, that was something I really struggled with for a while, and the Lord had delivered me from and really given me that godly love, and so the fact that I was dealing with this again was offensive, and so I I was praying and I was talking to the Lord, and I was like, Why am I struggling with this so hard?
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Like I don't want to, right?
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Um, as Paul says somewhere in scripture, I can't think of where it is right now, you know, he says, I do what I don't want to do, and I don't want to do what I do, and so I felt that in that in this season, and so I was, you know, praying to the Lord every day, like honestly and passionately, like I don't want to be angry, like please help me with my anger.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: And so I would get up every morning doing my morning devotion.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: I did a devotional series on anger, um, and you know, so that helped a little bit, and I kind of kept coming back, and so then I fasted, and so during my fast, it definitely my anger went away, but again, when I was done fasting, it came back, and so I fasted again and went away while I fasted and it came back, and so I was getting really frustrated because at this point I'm getting frustrated with my anger because I was trying out of every ounce of my faith to get rid of this anger, and it wouldn't go away.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: And so finally I decided somewhere along the line, towards the end, obviously, that I was going to focus on instead of focusing on, you know, the Ephesian scripture about not being angry.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: So instead of focusing on what I should not be doing, I was gonna kind of gear my focus on what I should be doing.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: So my favorite scripture is the Proverbs 31 woman, and so I was like, you know what?
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna open my Bible every single day.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: I picked three or four verses out of you know the 31 woman, and I was like, I'm gonna dive into these every day, soak up the kind of character that I should be having.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: So I did that, and it helped my anger, but it didn't completely go away.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: And so then I was like, okay, I need more.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: I need I I started to be hungry for the Lord, and I started to be hungry for you know finding these answers and for figuring out the kind of character that I needed to be having and fixing.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, you know what, I'm gonna do the fruit of the spirit, and so I started doing a devotional series on the fruit of the spirit, and literally one of the very first days that I started this, the Lord revealed to me the reason why I was having such a hard time with my anger and why it was never really going away the way that I was having it.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: And it was because I was doing all of these things for Christ, because I didn't want to make him, I didn't want to disobey, I didn't want to have that character, and I wasn't doing it through him, and so he was showing me through scripture and explaining to me during my devotions that I have to have godly love through him.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: I have to wake up and say, Lord, I lay down my life, I'm laying down all of my feelings, and I need your godly love to flow through my bones.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: I need your Holy Spirit to live in my body and let my body be a temple.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: And once I realized that, I realized that I wasn't living with godly love anymore.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: I wasn't allowing the Lord's love to flow through me, and I was just trying to do it myself without the Lord's love.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: And so when I had that aha moment, everything started to change.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: And so then I started doing the rest of the series, and I started noticing a change in my anger.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: It's it kind of went away pretty quickly.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: I would say within a week, I I didn't feel angry anymore.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Now, granted, I still have anger issues, so there still are moments when you have a really stressful day, and I will say, I'm not gonna say like I never have it, right?
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Like I'm still human, I still have emotions.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: For example, I was out all day yesterday running errands, I went to church, I brought some family to church, and then I went and visited my dad, and then we went grocery shopping, and we did all these crazy things, like so busy.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: And so then when I came home and I had realized I had to unpack my husband and myself and the baby and the groceries and the day's worth of stuff that was in the car in the house, I was just like so tired, and I have chub rub, which is a whole side note that is none of anybody's business, and so I was just so irritated, and so like, yeah, right.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: The anger did come out for like a good 30 minutes, and I was like, I need to go to my room and give myself a minute and pray because I I need to get right.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: But anyway, so that's my testimony, is that I really had to realize that I needed to flow through the Holy Spirit in his love.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Um, and so in Colossians chapter three, verses twelve and thirteen, he says, Therefore, as God's chosen ones, as dearly loved, you put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing one another and forgiving one another.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: If anyone has a grievance against each other, just as the Lord has forgiven you, you are also to forgive.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna say one more scripture here, which is John chapter thirteen, verse fifteen.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: He says, For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: And so this is how we have the flow of the Spirit.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: This is how we do things through Christ instead of for Christ, because he says, I have done these things for you, so you can do these things for others.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: And so that's how you do it through the Lord.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: The Lord says, I love you, Amber.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: I love you so much.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: I sent the Son on the cross to die for your sins, and I love you so much that every single day you have fresh grace and fresh mercy, and I continue to work with you, and I never lose my patience with you.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: And so, because I love you that much, then I have given you the example on how you can love others through me.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: And so that was like a a pivot point.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, make all make sense now, right?
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Um, and it really was night and day, and I started to realize like that's all I needed, right?
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: And so then I started thinking about it, and I started thinking about all the years in my faith, and I was like, Amber, this is nothing new, right?
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: We know that we need to have godly love in our lives, flowing through our lives to really be on fire for the Lord and to love others, right?
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Like, because we're all humans and we all sin, and without the Lord's love in our hearts, it's it's a lot harder to love other people.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: And so I knew that, right?
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Like, obviously, we know that that was the answer.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: But sometimes when you're in these situations or you're in these seasons of life, you lose sight of that.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: And you love the Lord so much you you start to do things for him for the wrong intentions, and you start to try to fix your problems for the wrong intentions.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: And I really hope I'm helping somebody here and I'm not just like speaking about my own problems here, but it was so like night and day life-changing.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: And so then as I can as I started to write this message, because I was like, I have to make this like a podcast episode topic, like it was so good.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: I was like, I cannot not write about it because the Lord had spoken to me so divinely.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: I really had an appointment with the Lord, and he really showed me so much and really showed me not just that I needed to have godly love to fix my problem, but then he continued to express this concept of the flow of the fruit on a deeper level on his on his other dimension that sometimes he just shows me.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, I have to, I have to, I have to dive into this.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And so in Philippians chapter 4, verse 13 is a famous verse that says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, right?
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: I have it in my kitchen on like a decoration from Hobby Lobby, right?
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I'm sure many of us have heard this verse, but I'm gonna reread it, and I'm gonna reread it real slow so that we can get the concept of a certain word that the Lord is getting at here.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: He says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: And so he says, Because I have extended kindness to you, you are also to be kind.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Because he has shown us patience, we are also to be patient.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Because he has loved us, we can love others.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Because the Lord has had self-control with us, we can have self-control with others.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Because he is faithful to us, we are to be faithful to others.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Think about your sins and what you've done to the Lord.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: And think about the character that the Lord has extended to you.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Think about the times that the Lord has had self-control with you when you mess up over and over and over again, whether it's intentionally or unintentionally, you mess up, and the Lord has self-control not to lose it on you.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: And yet he is slow to anger, and it's very rare that he gets angry with us.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: And when it does, it doesn't last long.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: And yet he still loves us, he still extends patience on us.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: When we mess up over and over and over again, he's still patient with us.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Like I'm gonna give myself again as an example.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: When I was through this season of anger, I can only imagine what the Lord was going through as he's like, Oh my gosh, Amber, you're not getting it, you know?
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Can you imagine trying to teach somebody something and you're teaching it to them over and over and over and over and over and over again, and they're still not getting it?
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: That's what the Lord was doing with me.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: That's what the Lord does with us.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: And he had self-control and he didn't flip out.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: He just stayed self-control.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: He had the control, he didn't lose his temper, he continued to have patience for me, he continued to love me, he continued to show me kindness, he continued excuse me.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: That's embarrassing.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: He continued to extend gentleness to me, and he was gentle with his teaching, and he was faithful with his guiding, and that is the reason we are to have his fruits of the spirit.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: But in order to get to a place where our hearts can operate like that, we first must do something else.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: And if you notice, the very first fruit in the fruit of the spirit is love.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: And his biggest and his greatest commandment is to love God and to love others.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: So, I'm gonna use a verse here in John 13, uh, verses 34 and 35, he says, I give you a new commandment.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Love one another, just as I have loved you.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: You are also too will love one another.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you want oops if you love one another.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: So he says, by living through the flow of love, but having godly love flowing through us every day, allows us to love others the way that God does.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: It it shines a light so bright that it lets the rest of the world know that we are his disciples and that we are his children.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: And it allows us to then, once we have that love flowing through us so radiantly, can we have the fruits through him?
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: We can have his kindness, we can have his joy, we can have his patience, peace, self-control, goodness, faithfulness.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: And so, as I kind of wrap up my message here today, I really want to um try to explain this visual that the Lord gave me when I was first studying this word, and really how I based my entire message off of this visual that the Lord gave me.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: So while I was doing my devotion and I was explaining earlier this aha moment that the Lord had revealed to me, he actually gave me a visual.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: He gave me this vision of this picture in my mind.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: And so I made a poster of that picture.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Like I if I could snapshot that picture what the Lord gave me, I made it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: And um, so if you're interested in seeing that, I would absolutely I'm I'm gonna point you in the right direction.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: It is in my show notes below.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Um it's it's like one of the first links that it'll be um named the flow of the spirit.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: You can also Google my Pinterest, which is your Bible gal, um, or you can always send me an email and I can email it to you.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: Um, but so the Lord gave me this visual, and so the visual is this it was like a web, okay.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: If you think about when you were in elementary school and you had like a um like a web, not event diagram, but like a web, right?
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, so you picture this diagram web.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: And in the center was God's love, nice, bright, and radiant.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: And off of that was a bunch of arrows or a bunch of lines to side bubbles that was the fruit of the spirit.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: And so if you think about it, if you were to detach the middle piece of God's love from all of those other points, then those other points could not be accessed.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: It is only when those other little bubbles and points are connected to the mainframe, centerpiece of God's love, that it all coexists together and it is all able to be accessed.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: And so I really hope that you guys are able to vision that with me and to reason with me.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: And like I said, if you need the actual visual, I actually did make it.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Um, and so you can click on the link of the flow of the spirit right in the show notes below to click on that and you can save it to your phone, whatever.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: I don't care what you do with it.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Send it to your friends, um, send them the podcast to listen to this too.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna wrap this up.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: And as I wrap this up in prayer, I really want to open this opportunity for you.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: As I lead the prayer, I open up this opportunity that you pray and ask God for that love.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Um, and to really understand the flow of the Spirit and how to really successfully get his flow of the Spirit.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: So, dear Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for this message today, and I pray over every single listener, wherever they are today, whether they are driving, whether they're at work, whether they're at home, whether they're anywhere, at a doctor's appointment, wherever they are, Father, I lift them up to you and I just intercede on their behalf and I just cover them in your protection, Father.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: And I just pray that you ignite a fire for them, a fire for you in their spirit, and that they just want to be on fire for you.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: And so, Father, I just pray that you help us have that godly love in our hearts, that we open up our spirit to you, and we say, we let you in, we let your Holy Spirit in, we let your godly love in, and we ask that you use our body as a temple for your spirit, and as a temple for your godly love, Father, and you fill us up with that godly love so that we are able to love others the way that you love others.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: And I ask that you help us stay focused on you, Jesus, that you help us stay focused and keep our eyes fixed on you and what is most important, and that and you know, to help us stay focused on the love for others and the love that you give.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Alright, guys.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Um, I hope that you guys enjoyed this message, and as always, I always, always, always can never leave an episode without saying um I have a prayer request form again in the shown links below.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: I would absolutely love if you went on there and just filled it out, gave me a prayer request.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, it's just really nice to connect with people and to really like build connections and relationships with people, um, and just to see that we're doing life together.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: And, you know, sometimes just having that person in your corner, you know, knowing that you're going through whatever it is that you're going through is just really helpful.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: And as the Lord says, that iron sharpens iron and and um yeah, so thank you so much for listening, and I will see you guys next time.
