Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This well past fold off. Seattle.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Welcome to Seattle Kraken Hockey on the Global Credit Union
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kraken Na Audio Network, brought to you by Coor's Life,
- 0:11Speaker 2: Your Western Washington, Toyota Dealers, Virginia Mason, Franciscan Health, Muckleshoot
- 0:16Speaker 2: Casino Resort, and by Luna and Simetra.
- 0:20Speaker 3: The Kraken welcomed in the two time defending Stanley Cup
- 0:23Speaker 3: champion Florida Panthers on Sunday, and it was a continuation
- 0:27Speaker 3: of Saturday's dominant performance in Vancouver. Six players recorded multi
- 0:33Speaker 3: point nights, with Coppocco leading the way with three and
- 0:36Speaker 3: Bobby McMahon continuing to endear himself to the krack in
- 0:40Speaker 3: Faithful with a two point night, all part of a
- 0:43Speaker 3: six to two Kraken win tonight in their final.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Home game for the month of March.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Seattle welcomes in the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have struggled
- 0:51Speaker 3: as of late, dropping seven of their last nine and
- 0:54Speaker 3: are in second place in the Atlantic, four back of first,
- 0:57Speaker 3: but just five points ahead of an April tea time,
- 1:01Speaker 3: good evening. Ladies and gentlemen welcome inside of Climate Pledge
- 1:05Speaker 3: Arena alongside Big Al Keneski.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I am Everet Fitzy.
- 1:09Speaker 3: This is Seattle Crack and Hockey on the Global Credit
- 1:11Speaker 3: Union Crack and Audio Network. You are listening to the
- 1:14Speaker 3: pregame show served up by Frostbrew, Corpse Light, Choose Chill.
- 1:18Speaker 1: A Kracking got a statement.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Win, a convincing win in Vancouver five to two to
- 1:22Speaker 3: one Saturday. You and I were saying that if they
- 1:25Speaker 3: want to continue this forward motion, they need to have
- 1:28Speaker 3: another similar performance against the Panthers on Sunday, and boy
- 1:32Speaker 3: did they. For six players with multi point nights, including
- 1:36Speaker 3: a goal and two assists for Kopplo Cockailt Bobby McMahon
- 1:39Speaker 3: now three goals and two assists in his first two
- 1:43Speaker 3: games as a Cracking. It was almost a perfect performance
- 1:46Speaker 3: for Seattle on Sunday night.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Well, for this team to have success, they need to
- 1:50Speaker 4: have a lot of things going for them. The need
- 1:51Speaker 4: to have fourth line contributing, Berkeley Cotton starting to turn
- 1:54Speaker 4: the corner.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Bobby McMahon now.
- 1:56Speaker 4: In his second game, he's got five points in U
- 1:58Speaker 4: SPAN Special teams, a goal. They've had all of that
- 2:01Speaker 4: in the last two games and they're bringing that into
- 2:03Speaker 4: tonight's and it's been nice.
- 2:04Speaker 3: To see what an addition like Bobby McMahon can add
- 2:07Speaker 3: to your lineup. Your top line now has combined for
- 2:10Speaker 3: four goals eight assists in their last two games. That's,
- 2:13Speaker 3: of course, Bobby and McMahon, Jordan Beverley and Mattymaniers. You're
- 2:16Speaker 3: getting a different look up top for.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Seattle, you absolutely are.
- 2:20Speaker 4: And you know when you get that different look, you
- 2:22Speaker 4: can put pressure on the other team and when they
- 2:24Speaker 4: put pressure back, specifically on their power play, Seattle's has
- 2:27Speaker 4: been fantastic effect. It has been the best in the
- 2:29Speaker 4: league since the Olympic break. Operating at ninety percent, this
- 2:33Speaker 4: team has had eight games since the Olympic break where
- 2:35Speaker 4: they have not allowed a power play goal from the
- 2:38Speaker 4: opposing team.
- 2:38Speaker 3: And looking at the schedule ahead for Seattle, this is
- 2:41Speaker 3: the final home game for the month of March. They're
- 2:44Speaker 3: back here on the second of April against Utah the
- 2:47Speaker 3: Kraken after tonight, with just five games left here at
- 2:50Speaker 3: home as they get set to and bark on a
- 2:53Speaker 3: six game road trip with a stop here in Seattle
- 2:56Speaker 3: between games five and game six. But for Seattle, you're
- 2:58Speaker 3: in a good spot in the playoffs right now. But
- 3:01Speaker 3: you're scoreboard watching as well, you look at where the
- 3:03Speaker 3: Kraken have.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Been all year.
- 3:05Speaker 3: There's been some ups, there's been some downs, maybe one
- 3:08Speaker 3: too many downs that you would like to see, but
- 3:10Speaker 3: all in all, you're playing meaningful games now here at.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Game sixty seven.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Yeah, there's always more downs than you would like that exactly.
- 3:16Speaker 4: You always like to have one last. But you know what,
- 3:19Speaker 4: you have the Vancouver game, you had, the Florida game
- 3:21Speaker 4: this year. Game tonight against Tampa is gonna be a
- 3:23Speaker 4: real test. You're gonna need another statement win here tonight.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Now I'm not talking about a five to one win. Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 4: you might have to take this one into extra time
- 3:30Speaker 4: and win it in overtime because this Tampa Bay Lightning
- 3:33Speaker 4: team is good.
- 3:34Speaker 3: It's been tough sledding for Seattle against Tampa. Won six
- 3:37Speaker 3: and one all time against the Lightning. The Tampa Bay
- 3:40Speaker 3: Lightning were the thirty first team the Kraken beats, so
- 3:44Speaker 3: if they were the final team that the Kraken got
- 3:47Speaker 3: their first win against a couple of seasons ago.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Across the red line.
- 3:50Speaker 3: With the Tampa Bay Lightning, it's been a struggle for
- 3:53Speaker 3: them here. As of late, they have won just two
- 3:56Speaker 3: seven and oh in their last nine they've been outscored
- 3:59Speaker 3: four to twenty eight. That's in comparison to twenty one
- 4:04Speaker 3: and one in the twenty two games.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Prior to this current stretch.
- 4:08Speaker 3: So for a team that right now is four points
- 4:10Speaker 3: out of first in the Atlantic, they're in second place,
- 4:13Speaker 3: five hundred will probably get them in the playoffs.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But like I said.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Before, they're just five points out of Pat's third wildcard spot,
- 4:21Speaker 3: which of course means in April Tez.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Well, they're strong in it. They're strong on the blue line,
- 4:25Speaker 4: and they're led by arguably one of the best players
- 4:27Speaker 4: in the NHL and possibly in quite some time, in
- 4:29Speaker 4: Nikida Kutrov. The guy averages a point and a half
- 4:32Speaker 4: per game, and you know, shutting him down is important.
- 4:34Speaker 4: He averages about seventeen points for this team. But they've
- 4:37Speaker 4: got bradon point, They've got others on this team that
- 4:40Speaker 4: can can hurt you. So you got to keep an
- 4:42Speaker 4: eye on Kutrov, but you really have to play well
- 4:44Speaker 4: defensively against most of this Lightning team.
- 4:46Speaker 3: He's got fifteen points in nine games since the Olympic break,
- 4:50Speaker 3: and he had a four game point streak snapped last
- 4:52Speaker 3: time out. Two goals and eight assists, on that time,
- 4:54Speaker 3: currently in the middle of his fourth consecutive one hundred
- 4:58Speaker 3: point season to the yours Light Landing we go Mike

- 8:20Speaker 10: Mike Betton with you back by the course light Landing
- 8:22Speaker 10: in section twenty is we have a lot to cover
- 8:24Speaker 10: here and coming up a new found offense and Bobby
- 8:27Speaker 10: McMahon's hot tear a lot to do with that, plus
- 8:30Speaker 10: a recap of Sunday Night and a crack and Pounding
- 8:33Speaker 10: of the Panthers. We also go one on one with
- 8:36Speaker 10: Coppocaco from the Crack and dressing Room Lane Lambert with
- 8:40Speaker 10: Everett Fitzhugh's also coming your way. Also, we'll get our
- 8:43Speaker 10: first look at Tampa Bay in just a bit. The
- 8:45Speaker 10: Kraken coming in right now thirty one twenty six and
- 8:48Speaker 10: nine point total labs seventy one, that good enough for
- 8:51Speaker 10: a tie for the final wildcard spot in the Western
- 8:54Speaker 10: Conference and looking to run there win streak to three
- 8:57Speaker 10: consecutive games. They face Tampa Bay, hitting the skids a
- 9:01Speaker 10: bit three and seven last ten games. The Lightning, though
- 9:04Speaker 10: very much in the mix for the Atlantic Division race,
- 9:08Speaker 10: they stand forty twenty one and four point total at
- 9:11Speaker 10: eighty four and second in their own division well for
- 9:15Speaker 10: today's game, quite a bit at stake here, not just
- 9:18Speaker 10: as far as better footing in the playoff picture. The
- 9:21Speaker 10: krack and are aiming for their first ever winn against
- 9:23Speaker 10: Tampa Bay on hall Mice that's been hard first four
- 9:26Speaker 10: years at zero three and one. They're also looking to
- 9:29Speaker 10: take a sweep of two games here in this homestand
- 9:32Speaker 10: and grab their first three game win streak since late
- 9:35Speaker 10: January when they won four in a row. But this
- 9:38Speaker 10: evening also emphasizes importance of Houll Mice because the Cracking
- 9:41Speaker 10: won't see much of it after tonight. Just five home
- 9:45Speaker 10: games in total remain on the regular season schedule after
- 9:47Speaker 10: this evening fifteen in total overall, The Cracking record seventeen
- 9:52Speaker 10: thirteen and five, that right now three wins shy of
- 9:55Speaker 10: the single season record for most wins at home. And
- 9:58Speaker 10: then after this one tonight, the Kraken on the road
- 10:01Speaker 10: for eight of the next ten games, where they are
- 10:03Speaker 10: looking to find a little bit more solid footing right
- 10:06Speaker 10: now at fourteen thirteen and four went away from climbing
- 10:10Speaker 10: pledge Arena. As far as matters here in the playoff race,
- 10:13Speaker 10: it is as tight as ever as we said the
- 10:15Speaker 10: Kraken time for the second wildcard spot with sixteen games
- 10:17Speaker 10: to play San Jose. It was one point back at
- 10:21Speaker 10: Edmonton this evening. The Kings were tied with the Kraken
- 10:25Speaker 10: half the night off at Nashville, still looming four points
- 10:28Speaker 10: back they are at Winnipeg, and we'll get you caught
- 10:31Speaker 10: up here on all the action and scores later on
- 10:34Speaker 10: here for this evening, but taking a look back on Sunday,
- 10:37Speaker 10: dep scoring took over when the Kraken needed it against
- 10:40Speaker 10: a pretty tough opponent and the two time defending Stanley
- 10:43Speaker 10: Cup champions.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Around the balls far side, Vince Dunn steps in front
- 10:48Speaker 3: off sabrego now.
- 10:49Speaker 11: Cock going front, Hey shot cock, Yo, what's the crack head?
- 11:01Speaker 11: On top by a four to.
- 11:03Speaker 3: One score, sixteen forty to play with a second well.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Coach Lee Lambert talked about Coppo Coco's game lay lately.
- 11:10Speaker 4: He likes how he's battling for pucks. He likes how
- 11:13Speaker 4: he's going to the net. He gets just pucked below
- 11:15Speaker 4: the goal lines the side of the net. It starts
- 11:18Speaker 4: charging to the blue peat. He comes all the way around,
- 11:21Speaker 4: beats Taras up, cracking up.
- 11:24Speaker 10: For one big knife for Coppocaco, big knife for the offense,
- 11:27Speaker 10: big win as well for the Kraken, who beat the
- 11:30Speaker 10: Panthers sixty to two in a blowout as Florida banged
- 11:33Speaker 10: up squad is still very much formidable and the crack
- 11:36Speaker 10: In building up a three to one lead on them
- 11:38Speaker 10: by the end of period one on goals by Ben Meers,
- 11:40Speaker 10: Berkeley Catton and Ryan Winterson. The goal you heard that
- 11:44Speaker 10: was Coco back in the second period, all part of
- 11:46Speaker 10: a three point night where he earned first Our honors
- 11:49Speaker 10: and Bobby McMahon for good measure, a smashing debut for
- 11:52Speaker 10: the crack and overall then a smashing home debut for him,
- 11:55Speaker 10: picking up two points one goal as well, all that
- 11:59Speaker 10: coming in period three, which put the crack In from
- 12:01Speaker 10: out of the playoffs back into wild card spots number two.
- 12:06Speaker 10: But toward the end of that game a bit of
- 12:08Speaker 10: a damper as far as the forward side of things,
- 12:10Speaker 10: Ellie Tolbinen leaving the game third period after he took
- 12:14Speaker 10: a hit from Carter ver Hagy also had a nasty
- 12:16Speaker 10: crash right toward the ice in awkward fashion, did not return.
- 12:20Speaker 10: Looks like he may not be playing here for this evening.
- 12:23Speaker 10: That will also force a shuffle here in the lineup,
- 12:25Speaker 10: with Jacob Alanson getting back in after being scratched here
- 12:29Speaker 10: in the last two games, and it appears that he'll
- 12:31Speaker 10: be back in his familiar spot on the fourth line
- 12:34Speaker 10: and Freddie Gudrou jumping up to line two. It looks
- 12:37Speaker 10: like here with Jared McCann and Chandler Stevenson cracking story
- 12:42Speaker 10: lines first off, begin with Bobby McMahon and his tour
- 12:45Speaker 10: and pace for the play like this.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Down the left side for Shane right.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Took a tumble, got it up to toll of it
- 12:52Speaker 3: now Cock will Cock, don't want to stop the battle.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Seattle.
- 13:03Speaker 11: Bobby McMahon, his third goal in kracking covers his first
- 13:08Speaker 11: under our roof.
- 13:10Speaker 1: It's a five one Seattle cracking lead.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Oh, it was a great pass out from Toulvinen out
- 13:17Speaker 4: to Coppo Cockle one touches it to McMahon the slot
- 13:21Speaker 4: and he ripped a wrist shot under the bar. Five
- 13:25Speaker 4: one kracking and his parents Connie and Cecil h.
- 13:29Speaker 5: Gotta be proud of that one.
- 13:30Speaker 10: Certainly a great story is so far and Bobby McMahon
- 13:33Speaker 10: coming his advertised that shot on brand and as well
- 13:36Speaker 10: coming as advertise on top of that, where he's got
- 13:39Speaker 10: five points in his first two games with the Krakend.
- 13:42Speaker 10: He's only had two shots on net, funny enough, and
- 13:44Speaker 10: both converted into goals, so he's making him count. But
- 13:47Speaker 10: he's right now also looking for his first career goal
- 13:50Speaker 10: against Tampa Bay and a goal for him tonight with
- 13:53Speaker 10: Marcus first three game goal streak of this season. That
- 13:56Speaker 10: was last accomplished last season in February at Minton Calgary
- 14:01Speaker 10: and guess where right here in Seattle when he played
- 14:04Speaker 10: for the Toronto Main be Leiefs. It's safe to say
- 14:07Speaker 10: McMahon's found a fit already here on this team. And
- 14:09Speaker 10: Manny Beaneers is a centerman. He sits by his tall
- 14:12Speaker 10: in the crack and dressing room, and Benier's lad out said,
- 14:15Speaker 10: McMahon's been great.
- 14:17Speaker 12: All over the ice. You know, makes hard and plays
- 14:19Speaker 12: good on the walls. You know, holds on the box,
- 14:22Speaker 12: you know, creates a lot of punk battles and you know,
- 14:24Speaker 12: really good on the four check. So you know, he's
- 14:26Speaker 12: been really good. And he can obviously shoot the puck
- 14:28Speaker 12: and make plays too, so that obviously helps. But yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 12: you know, fun playing with them, just getting to know
- 14:33Speaker 12: him sets it's it's good.
- 14:36Speaker 10: Second cracking story line there, penalty kill last two games.
- 14:39Speaker 10: Of course, the Krack and out scoring the opposition eleven
- 14:42Speaker 10: to four and offense certainly is front and center of
- 14:44Speaker 10: their success, but the penalty kill also deserves some props.
- 14:47Speaker 10: Six of six last two wins, and ever and Everetten
- 14:50Speaker 10: all of course mentioned this earlier. Since the Olympic break,
- 14:53Speaker 10: the Krack can lead the NHL in penalty killing ninety
- 14:57Speaker 10: percent as far as that right plus also again Florida,
- 15:00Speaker 10: they killed off a five on three which could have
- 15:03Speaker 10: swung the game as well, but this evening they faced
- 15:06Speaker 10: a Tampa Bay power play six in the NHL on
- 15:08Speaker 10: the road, so the challenge is certainly there front and center.
- 15:12Speaker 10: Our third story line, Philip Grubauer going to be in
- 15:14Speaker 10: net Market his fourteenth appearance of his career against Tampa Bay.
- 15:18Speaker 10: He is five to five and one last time out.
- 15:20Speaker 10: He beat Vancouver last Saturday on a thirty two saved
- 15:24Speaker 10: effort and looking for his first win since October thirtieth
- 15:27Speaker 10: of twenty twenty three at Tampa Bay. As well, Goltending's
- 15:32Speaker 10: played with confidence much more lately. Matter of fact, the
- 15:36Speaker 10: team as a whole has played with more confidence lately
- 15:38Speaker 10: as well. That's important has been yours said, The Kraken
- 15:42Speaker 10: are finding their game once again.
- 15:44Speaker 12: Yeah, we played a lot more connect to the last
- 15:47Speaker 12: two games, you know, a lot just good commitment, hard all,
- 15:52Speaker 12: you know, sixty minutes of hockey. So that was good
- 15:56Speaker 12: and that's what we got to do. Especially, you know,
- 15:58Speaker 12: every game matters for for every team that's you know,
- 16:01Speaker 12: in and around the hunt. So so we got to
- 16:03Speaker 12: be ready to go every night.
- 16:05Speaker 10: So now we get to a fun part about tonight.
- 16:08Speaker 10: For the first time since last year's trade deadline, Yanni
- 16:12Speaker 10: Gord and Oliver b org Strand returned to Climbing Pledge
- 16:15Speaker 10: Arena and that's not lost on Paniers, who said both
- 16:19Speaker 10: played a big role and his time as a younger
- 16:21Speaker 10: player right here.
- 16:23Speaker 12: Yeah, I started my career at them, so you know,
- 16:26Speaker 12: they were they were kind of older guys that I
- 16:29Speaker 12: looked up to, and you know, they were great to me.
- 16:31Speaker 12: Great to play with them, you know, learn from them,
- 16:33Speaker 12: and you know it'll be fun to go against him tonight.
- 16:37Speaker 10: Good time to also check in here with Coppocco. Of course,
- 16:40Speaker 10: the hands have drawn plenty of attention at three point
- 16:43Speaker 10: nine he had. He helped create a goal scored by
- 16:45Speaker 10: Berkeley Catton in the first period, then those hands himself
- 16:48Speaker 10: took over converting in period two, and Coco has gone
- 16:51Speaker 10: four goals now in nine games since the Olympics, also
- 16:54Speaker 10: of course, with a bronze medal in tow. But he
- 16:56Speaker 10: is no stranger to high leverage hockey, and Coco had
- 16:59Speaker 10: more from the dress room this morning, beginning with the
- 17:02Speaker 10: state of this.
- 17:02Speaker 13: Game, I think I'll reliant it is getting better and
- 17:05Speaker 13: better all the time. We kind of know what are
- 17:08Speaker 13: we gonna do and then find dates other a little
- 17:10Speaker 13: better and play more in the ozone, so that helps
- 17:13Speaker 13: all of us. And I think it's been being better lately.
- 17:16Speaker 10: You had a great play to help set up Berkeley
- 17:18Speaker 10: Caton's goal, and then you obviously were able to find
- 17:21Speaker 10: you know, some finish back in the second period. But
- 17:23Speaker 10: al Koniski mentioned back on the air, just how much
- 17:25Speaker 10: your hands have garnered so much attention here recently. Some
- 17:29Speaker 10: guys I kind of lean into this here can be
- 17:31Speaker 10: the same. They can be different as far as how
- 17:33Speaker 10: they work on their game. But how much attention do
- 17:35Speaker 10: you pay to skill building during the entire season?
- 17:38Speaker 13: Yeah, I think that was, like, that's being my game,
- 17:42Speaker 13: especially when I was young, Like I tried to make
- 17:45Speaker 13: those plays all the time, and I think it's been
- 17:49Speaker 13: maybe a hiding a little bit or you know, like
- 17:52Speaker 13: haven't been making those plays lately, and then it's good
- 17:56Speaker 13: to see it's still there and then nice to try
- 17:58Speaker 13: things like that, you know, when you get chance and
- 18:01Speaker 13: I mean, that was a great play by Rick the
- 18:04Speaker 13: middle and then I got a some speed and you know,
- 18:07Speaker 13: like I can try to do something like that and
- 18:09Speaker 13: it works out well, So hopefully get.
- 18:12Speaker 5: More chances like that. Awesome.
- 18:13Speaker 10: So what are you finding out about Shane Wright and
- 18:15Speaker 10: his game and how he makes things work for you
- 18:17Speaker 10: as as your centerment?
- 18:19Speaker 13: Yeah, I think, yeah, we've been playing together for a
- 18:23Speaker 13: long time now, and I'm kind of, like I said,
- 18:25Speaker 13: like whole line, we kind of know what we can
- 18:28Speaker 13: do right now, and I feel he knows where I'm
- 18:31Speaker 13: good and what I can bring, especially down low, and
- 18:35Speaker 13: he's finding me a lot more right now. That's how
- 18:38Speaker 13: I feel. So that's that's something. What's being better lately?
- 18:42Speaker 10: Last time you were in the Stanley Cup playoffs was
- 18:45Speaker 10: two years ago. What does this time of the year
- 18:47Speaker 10: mean to.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You, Yeah, a lot of big games.
- 18:48Speaker 13: I mean, this is the big time of the year,
- 18:51Speaker 13: you know, just the I don't know, sixteen fifteen games
- 18:54Speaker 13: left and then we are right there, so just gotta
- 18:57Speaker 13: keep going.
- 18:58Speaker 10: What qualities of this team mean the was here you
- 19:00Speaker 10: think for the final pust As far as what you
- 19:02Speaker 10: have with sixteen games.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Left, yeah, I think we've been doing good.
- 19:05Speaker 13: Later, Like the game a couple of days ago was
- 19:09Speaker 13: a big one for us. I think we played great
- 19:11Speaker 13: and that's something we got to keep doing. Played a
- 19:14Speaker 13: lot Indio zone, defended well, so and our goal.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Is being good for the whole season. So hopefully they
- 19:19Speaker 5: stay like that.
- 19:20Speaker 10: I think one advantage for you playing previously in the
- 19:22Speaker 10: Eastern Conferences seeing opponents a little more often than not.
- 19:26Speaker 10: And this team hasn't seen Tampa Bay yet for this year,
- 19:28Speaker 10: but you've been exposed of course the guys like Kuchera,
- 19:30Speaker 10: Brandon point for the past year. So as far as
- 19:33Speaker 10: what you know, how does the approach defensively for the
- 19:36Speaker 10: night compare back to Sunday.
- 19:37Speaker 13: Yeah, they have a lot of skill, they have a
- 19:39Speaker 13: lot of big boys, and then they play physical games,
- 19:42Speaker 13: so that's something we gotta be ready and then I
- 19:45Speaker 13: mean I can do I think we again mats for them.
- 19:48Speaker 10: That's Coppocco. We'll take a look at Tampa Bay coming up.

- 22:37Speaker 10: for a look at the Lightning, who are still very
- 22:39Speaker 10: much in the mix for the Atlantic Division race, but
- 22:42Speaker 10: Buffalo right now outpacing them by four points and the
- 22:45Speaker 10: Lightning sputtering last ten games three and seven record where
- 22:49Speaker 10: they've been outscored forty two to thirty two. Matter of fact,
- 22:52Speaker 10: penalty kill, taking a few one the chin, giving up
- 22:55Speaker 10: ten goals in thirty three chances. They gave up four
- 22:58Speaker 10: a loan to Buffalo in that famous eight to seven
- 23:01Speaker 10: game several days ago. But yet despite being banged up
- 23:05Speaker 10: Victor Heben out recently, they got Corey Perry back at
- 23:08Speaker 10: the trade deadline, where he is so far proven to
- 23:11Speaker 10: be productive still at his age, three points in five games,
- 23:14Speaker 10: and their offense still humming along right now for best
- 23:17Speaker 10: in the NHL for goals scored at three point four
- 23:19Speaker 10: per game. The big story, of course, Nikita Kucharov one
- 23:23Speaker 10: hundred and six points in sixty one games very much,
- 23:27Speaker 10: and the Art Ross and Hard Trophy conversations each they
- 23:32Speaker 10: come off a four to two loss to Carolina. Andre
- 23:35Speaker 10: Vassilewski likely started here for this evening and then for
- 23:38Speaker 10: the thirteen time in fifteen games. He had thirty one
- 23:41Speaker 10: saves in that but yet still tied for the league
- 23:44Speaker 10: lead and wins with thirty Lightning story lines first up
- 23:48Speaker 10: again with old faces in new places, first games back
- 23:52Speaker 10: here in Seattle coming for Yanni Gord and Oliver by
- 23:55Speaker 10: Yorkstran since last year's trade which had them sent from
- 23:58Speaker 10: Seattle to Tampa Bay. Gordon course a part of the
- 24:01Speaker 10: Kraken since the expansion season, and the York Strands impact
- 24:05Speaker 10: of course, the game winning goal on a two goal
- 24:07Speaker 10: night in Game seven back in twenty twenty three first
- 24:10Speaker 10: round against Colorado. Both of course catching up with old
- 24:13Speaker 10: friends last night's over dinner hosted by Maddy ben Heirs,
- 24:17Speaker 10: so certainly no shortage of motivation at hand for those
- 24:21Speaker 10: two and for Yanni Gord, practice on Monday brought back
- 24:24Speaker 10: gold memories but also a new feeling.
- 24:26Speaker 5: He said, right.
- 24:27Speaker 17: Here, it's a little weird to be honest, like walking
- 24:30Speaker 17: out in this rink through a different door and coming
- 24:34Speaker 17: to this side of the locker room and the side
- 24:37Speaker 17: of the locker room, and also it's a little weird,
- 24:39Speaker 17: but yeah, it's exciting, and it's it's yeah, super exciting.
- 24:44Speaker 10: Then for Oliver the Yorkstrand, he's going to see a
- 24:47Speaker 10: lot of faces on the other side he once called teammates,
- 24:50Speaker 10: and he said, it'll take time getting used.
- 24:52Speaker 16: To envision playing in front of, like against a lot
- 24:55Speaker 16: of friends and family and stuff like that.
- 24:57Speaker 18: So I don't know.
- 24:58Speaker 16: It's obviously a little bit different and playing a game
- 25:01Speaker 16: against former teammates, and especially when it's a chunk of them, right,
- 25:04Speaker 16: So yeah, this is a little bit odd, but obviously
- 25:08Speaker 16: it's a hockey game. You get out there, you get
- 25:10Speaker 16: the first shift out of the way, and you just
- 25:11Speaker 16: kind of focus on what you need to focus on.
- 25:14Speaker 10: Second storyline Gage Gonsalve is back in the Pacific Northwest.
- 25:17Speaker 10: The former Everett silver to four, now on second line
- 25:20Speaker 10: duty and riding a three game point streak. He's had

- 25:30Speaker 10: a Tampa Bay scoring leader in goals, points, assists, power
- 25:34Speaker 10: play points, also leading in shansan net. He's got eleven

- 28:08Speaker 3: six game road trip. Seattle six to two winners over
- 28:11Speaker 3: the Panthers two nights ago and now the Lightning come
- 28:14Speaker 3: in second place in that Atlantic division.
- 28:17Speaker 1: They have been a tough out for the last.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Decade plus, but they've fallen on some hard times since
- 28:23Speaker 3: the Olympic break two seven to zero in their last
- 28:25Speaker 3: nine games. Kraken trying to capitalize on that. Here this
- 28:29Speaker 3: evening tell us how they can do that Pardoner well.
- 28:31Speaker 4: First of all, play loose the sailor crackit. Have won
- 28:34Speaker 4: two straight, so unclench the jaw and let it rip.
- 28:38Speaker 4: You don't beat the Tampa Bay Lightning playing with pause
- 28:40Speaker 4: or overthinking every pass.
- 28:42Speaker 5: Look at the tax audit, trust your legs, trust.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Your reads, and if you make a mistake, make it
- 28:47Speaker 4: at full speed, not halfway, like you're concerned about a
- 28:50Speaker 4: storm coming in. Loose doesn't mean sloppy. It means confident, aggressive,
- 28:54Speaker 4: and just a little bit annoying to play against. Secondly,
- 28:58Speaker 4: execute the defensive system. This is in pond hockey. Tampa
- 29:02Speaker 4: will carve you out faster than a corn beef butcher.
- 29:05Speaker 4: If you go out there and freelance layers, structure sticks
- 29:09Speaker 4: in lanes, do the boring stuff like it pays bonuses.
- 29:12Speaker 4: One missed assignment and suddenly you're fishing the puck out,
- 29:15Speaker 4: while the Lightnings celebrate like they plant it all along.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Keep it tight, keep it predictable, and don't give their
- 29:20Speaker 4: skill guys time to execute. Execute that dizeled system though well,
- 29:26Speaker 4: and suddenly the lightning look more like a flickering bulb.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Third great goaltending by Grubauer. Philip Krubauer doesn't need to
- 29:34Speaker 4: steal the game, but he better at least shoplit a
- 29:37Speaker 4: few moments. Tampa's gonna get looks that's life. Your goalie
- 29:41Speaker 4: has to slam the door and maybe kick it back
- 29:43Speaker 4: in for good measure. Big saves at the right time
- 29:46Speaker 4: are backbreakers, and nothing frustrates a high powered offense more
- 29:49Speaker 4: than a goalie who refuses to blink. Be steady early,
- 29:53Speaker 4: be sharp late, and don't give them a sniff in
- 29:56Speaker 4: some play loose but not like you've lost the playbook.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Just enough electricity and swagger to keep Tampa honest. Lock
- 30:04Speaker 4: in defensively, because if you don't, the lightning will turn
- 30:06Speaker 4: your mistakes into scorched earth real quick. And when the
- 30:09Speaker 4: barometer does drop and the lightning attack, Krubauer's got to
- 30:13Speaker 4: be the guy who says, not tonight, do those three things,
- 30:16Speaker 4: and suddenly the win streak starts looking less like a
- 30:18Speaker 4: fluke and more like a problem for the rest of
- 30:21Speaker 4: the Pacific Division.
- 30:22Speaker 1: You're carving up that corn beef at media meal. The
- 30:28Speaker 1: corn beef, my mistake.
- 30:31Speaker 5: It's called beef, of course, I love it.
- 30:33Speaker 1: All beef exactly.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Okay, So this team wins in back to back games.
- 30:39Speaker 3: They outscore teams eleven to four in that time, a
- 30:41Speaker 3: five to two win and a six two win. First
- 30:45Speaker 3: of all, are you are you at all phased by
- 30:47Speaker 3: the last second goals, the cracking, the given up.
- 30:49Speaker 4: In the last two I listen, one game, no, two
- 30:53Speaker 4: games in a row. It's definitely something I'm talking about. Yeah,
- 30:56Speaker 4: you know, because that could be the difference between winning
- 30:58Speaker 4: two to one and going to overtime too. Right, You've
- 31:01Speaker 4: got to play to that final buzzer. I don't care
- 31:04Speaker 4: what the score is. That's got to be the mentality.
- 31:06Speaker 4: So it's something I drill home. But obviously, eleven goals
- 31:09Speaker 4: in two games is the big focus right there. A
- 31:11Speaker 4: lot of things have gone well for this team over
- 31:13Speaker 4: the two games. The penalty kill has been fantastic. The
- 31:16Speaker 4: power play still needs to continue to get better, and
- 31:19Speaker 4: you want it to. As you head towards the playoffs.
- 31:21Speaker 4: But there's a lot of good that has come from
- 31:22Speaker 4: those two games, and all that confidence has to factor
- 31:25Speaker 4: into tonight's game.
- 31:26Speaker 3: We talked to Lane Lambert this morning and I asked
- 31:28Speaker 3: him about what he compares tonight's game two. Is it
- 31:31Speaker 3: more of the Carolina game two weeks ago when the
- 31:34Speaker 3: Krakend won that one two one, they were out shot
- 31:38Speaker 3: by a plus three times three margin thirty one thirteen,
- 31:44Speaker 3: but they out hit the Hurricanes by that exact same
- 31:47Speaker 3: margin thirty one to thirteen. Or are you looking more
- 31:50Speaker 3: at the Avalanche game, another top team in the NHL
- 31:52Speaker 3: who's got a lot of offensive firepower. You didn't start
- 31:56Speaker 3: that game one time. Lane Lambert said that maybe there
- 31:58Speaker 3: was a little bit too much respect shown the other way,
- 32:02Speaker 3: and he's looking at more of the Colorado game to
- 32:05Speaker 3: take the lessons from there.
- 32:06Speaker 4: What are your thoughts? Yeah, I mean I take some
- 32:08Speaker 4: from both. Listen, Obviously you like the outcome of the
- 32:11Speaker 4: Carolina game, but you can learn things from both. What
- 32:14Speaker 4: I know from the Carolina game is they did have
- 32:17Speaker 4: a good start, a good first period, and that's something
- 32:19Speaker 4: the cracketd have done really well since the Olympic break
- 32:22Speaker 4: they are twelve to ten in the opening period. They
- 32:24Speaker 4: have a plus two scoring differential in that first period
- 32:28Speaker 4: since the Olympic break, and actually Tampa Bay's got the
- 32:30Speaker 4: league's third worst at DASH five. So you get a
- 32:34Speaker 4: good first period on this Tampa Bay Lightning team and
- 32:36Speaker 4: that sets you up real well for the rest of
- 32:38Speaker 4: the game.
- 32:38Speaker 3: A couple of returns here tonight for the Seattle Crack
- 32:41Speaker 3: and two of probably my favorite players, just this person,
- 32:46Speaker 3: the person that I've had the privilege of working with
- 32:48Speaker 3: and Yonni Gordon Oliver of York Strand. They were traded
- 32:51Speaker 3: to Tampa last season at the deadline.
- 32:54Speaker 1: For a pair of first round picks.
- 32:55Speaker 3: A second rounder Mike he Asamont as well came and
- 32:58Speaker 3: now they will play their first game back under our
- 33:01Speaker 3: roof for the Tampa Bay Lightning. And you look at
- 33:03Speaker 3: those two guys really embodying what it meant to.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Be a Seattle Kraken.
- 33:06Speaker 3: And usually when guys come back into the building, you
- 33:09Speaker 3: know it's another game.
- 33:10Speaker 1: But these are two players.
- 33:12Speaker 3: That I really am excited to watch again. I didn't
- 33:14Speaker 3: get a chance to see them this morning, but just
- 33:17Speaker 3: two of the great guys.
- 33:17Speaker 1: They always treated.
- 33:18Speaker 3: You and I with kindness and respect, and I missed them,
- 33:22Speaker 3: but it's great to see them back here too.
- 33:24Speaker 4: A quick story about one of them is yesterday was
- 33:25Speaker 4: a day off and I did something that I always
- 33:28Speaker 4: do on my day off. I went back to Casey
- 33:30Speaker 4: I to be on the ice. I just happened to
- 33:33Speaker 4: run in and I noticed some of the Tampa Bay
- 33:35Speaker 4: players getting some work done. And I saw a player
- 33:37Speaker 4: on one of the benches getting some activation done by
- 33:40Speaker 4: the team staff and saw twenty two on the shoulder,
- 33:43Speaker 4: and I thought, well, that's obviously Oliver York's trand so
- 33:45Speaker 4: I walked up and I said, Ollie. He got up
- 33:48Speaker 4: off the table goes out, how you doing? And it's like,
- 33:51Speaker 4: that's the kind of guy he is. It wasn't like, oh, hey,
- 33:53Speaker 4: how you doing, you know whatever, Like he wanted to
- 33:56Speaker 4: say hello, He wanted to check in, how are things going.
- 33:58Speaker 5: We talked about how his family was doing.
- 34:00Speaker 4: He just he's that kind of guy, and you know,
- 34:02Speaker 4: you want every player to kind of have that same
- 34:04Speaker 4: kind of personalities.
- 34:05Speaker 5: So you miss him for that reason. And Yannie Gordon
- 34:07Speaker 5: was the same way.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Oliver b Yorick Strand three seasons here in Seattle, one
- 34:10Speaker 3: hundred and forty one points, two hundred and twenty four
- 34:13Speaker 3: games for Yanni Gord back here in Seattle four years
- 34:16Speaker 3: as well, one hundred and forty six.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Points and two hundred and seventy one games. So great
- 34:20Speaker 1: to have them back here.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Real quick at before we go back to Mike Benton,
- 34:23Speaker 3: you got to win this home game, last one here
- 34:25Speaker 3: for the month of March. But then you go on
- 34:27Speaker 3: the road for six really important games. How big of
- 34:31Speaker 3: a win is this going to be for Seattle when
- 34:33Speaker 3: you look at going on the road setting up for success.
- 34:37Speaker 3: You know, Mike Benton calls this next road trip the
- 34:39Speaker 3: final boss for Seattle. They have to final way to
- 34:42Speaker 3: beat that final boss, but you need to take care
- 34:45Speaker 3: of this.
- 34:45Speaker 5: One here at home.
- 34:46Speaker 4: Yeah, the final boss that gets you to the next level.
- 34:48Speaker 4: The next level being playoffs. And I agree with Mikey
- 34:51Speaker 4: that's that's absolutely it. But before you get there, you
- 34:53Speaker 4: got to play a game, good game tonight. You want
- 34:55Speaker 4: to you want to leave this game regardless of the
- 34:57Speaker 4: outcome saying we play well tonight just ended up on
- 35:00Speaker 4: the right side of the wrong side of it. What
- 35:02Speaker 4: you don't want is you don't want a game where
- 35:04Speaker 4: you didn't play well, you get beat battly and then
- 35:06Speaker 4: you go on the road. So I'm looking for a
- 35:08Speaker 4: really high effort game tonight. You know who never has
- 35:11Speaker 4: to worry about that at all.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Abslully Mike Benton, Mike betten back of a cross Light

- 37:58Speaker 1: What ever refits you? Thanks Mike.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Playing the back to back wins Vancouver and Florida on
- 38:03Speaker 3: the weekend and really have put that four game slide
- 38:06Speaker 3: behind you. Just what have you thought it's been the
- 38:07Speaker 3: biggest difference is these last two games compared to the
- 38:11Speaker 3: previous four.
- 38:12Speaker 24: I just thought we played a little bit more, not urgency,
- 38:17Speaker 24: but just a little less with hesitation, you know. I
- 38:21Speaker 24: think there was a couple of times during a couple
- 38:23Speaker 24: of those games, and certainly the Colorado game, where we.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Were a little bit.
- 38:27Speaker 24: Hesitant, you know, trying to protect and not get scored
- 38:32Speaker 24: on as you know, as opposed to you know, just
- 38:36Speaker 24: closing ending plays and going on the offense.
- 38:38Speaker 5: So I thought we did a much better job of that.
- 38:40Speaker 24: Our mindset was better.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Eleven goals your last two games. Bobby mcmcmahon has factored
- 38:45Speaker 3: in into five of those goals. Have you noticed anything
- 38:49Speaker 3: different offensively or is it simply that Bobby McMahon brings
- 38:53Speaker 3: something to your lineup that you've been missing for the
- 38:55Speaker 3: first three quarters of the season.
- 38:57Speaker 24: Yeah, No, there's not a whole bunch of difference with Bob.
- 39:01Speaker 24: You know, he obviously, you know, it's really good to
- 39:04Speaker 24: see him, you know, get on this little bit of
- 39:07Speaker 24: a run. We need him to continue doing that for us.
- 39:10Speaker 24: You know, I knew last week when he was stuck
- 39:13Speaker 24: in immigration.
- 39:14Speaker 5: That we needed him.
- 39:15Speaker 24: Certainly could have made a difference in a couple of
- 39:17Speaker 24: those games, but you know, he's for me comes as advertised.
- 39:21Speaker 24: You know, is he going to get you know, five
- 39:23Speaker 24: points in every two games? No, but he certainly provides
- 39:27Speaker 24: us with speed and some offensive instincts.
- 39:30Speaker 3: I said last night when I talked to you last game,
- 39:32Speaker 3: that the two points minimums got to be the standard,
- 39:35Speaker 3: because he had three in his first game. Now two
- 39:36Speaker 3: last games, so hopefully for two here tonight. Looking at
- 39:41Speaker 3: the Tampabey landing another top team in the NHL, when
- 39:44Speaker 3: you look at the last two games that you've played
- 39:46Speaker 3: Colorado and Carolina against top teams, two different results, can
- 39:50Speaker 3: you take some lessons from those games and apply them
- 39:54Speaker 3: here to Tampa.
- 39:55Speaker 24: I think you take more lessons, hopefully from the Colorado
- 39:57Speaker 24: game than you do from the Carolina game. Tampa is
- 40:01Speaker 24: a very similar team to Colorado in terms of offensive abilities,
- 40:06Speaker 24: extremely dangerous, high level, high end talent, a bunch of
- 40:09Speaker 24: guys that played in the Olympics.
- 40:11Speaker 5: So that tells you something.
- 40:13Speaker 24: You know, they're a good hockey team. So I think
- 40:15Speaker 24: we can take a little bit more out of the
- 40:16Speaker 24: Colorado game in the Carolina game, not because we won
- 40:19Speaker 24: the Carolina game and lost the Colorado game, but just because,
- 40:22Speaker 24: you know, we have to make sure that we're not
- 40:24Speaker 24: hesitant out there tonight and we've got to we've got
- 40:27Speaker 24: to get on our toes and go for it.
- 40:29Speaker 3: I think you, more so than most coaches in the league,
- 40:32Speaker 3: know what this Tampa Bay Lightning team can do. Having
- 40:34Speaker 3: coach to geint them, coached against them so much couple
- 40:36Speaker 3: of conference finals. Why are they so dangerous? What issues
- 40:41Speaker 3: do they present teams that seemingly they've not been able
- 40:45Speaker 3: to overcome in the last handful of years that Tampa
- 40:47Speaker 3: has been this dominant force out of the East.
- 40:49Speaker 24: Talent, They got a lot of talent, and they work.
- 40:53Speaker 24: You know, you talk about the Tampa Bay Lightning and
- 40:55Speaker 24: all the talent they have. They go to the net very,
- 40:56Speaker 24: very hard. They play championship playoff type of hockey game
- 41:01Speaker 24: and they can play any game you want, and you
- 41:04Speaker 24: know it starts with number eighty six and number twenty one,
- 41:08Speaker 24: so you know, I mean, that's that's what they are.
- 41:11Speaker 5: That's why they're so good.
- 41:13Speaker 24: And you know they've had a lot of success.
- 41:16Speaker 5: Over the years.
- 41:17Speaker 3: You've gotten off some good starts. Last two games against
- 41:19Speaker 3: Vancouver along with Florida. Defensively, you've played well. I have
- 41:23Speaker 3: to imagine those have to be your top two keys
- 41:25Speaker 3: tonight for victory.
- 41:26Speaker 24: Well, we got to come out and play the first
- 41:27Speaker 24: five minutes, you know, and make sure that we're on
- 41:30Speaker 24: our toes and going, and then we'll take it from there.
- 41:32Speaker 24: Just taking increments of five minutes. Don't get ahead of ourselves,
- 41:35Speaker 24: but we need a good start.
