- 2:36Speaker 4: welcome to the show now, Della, good, Kayla Young, good morning,
- 2:38Speaker 4: Welcome to the show.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Good morning, Happy Monday. The ground hung warned us about
- 2:42Speaker 6: this snow.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Yeah, well you know you had one groundhog. Punksy Tony
- 2:46Speaker 4: Phil said we're gonna have more weather, and then French
- 2:48Speaker 4: Greek Freddy said no, and you know mother nature going
- 2:51Speaker 4: to mother Nature. She's gonna do what she wants to do. Sure,
- 2:54Speaker 4: I'll talk about this of Brian Hughes a little bit
- 2:55Speaker 4: later on. I think a much bigger deal this than
- 2:58Speaker 4: snow is going to be the amount of moisture that
- 3:00Speaker 4: we are going to get in an already water logged state. Yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 4: and so eventually rain's gonna move in and we're going
- 3:06Speaker 4: to have a whole lot of rain between now and
- 3:08Speaker 4: next maybe next Monday or so. So but we'll talk
- 3:11Speaker 4: to Brian about that a little bit later on. Any
- 3:14Speaker 4: comments from you on the big super Bowl last night.
- 3:17Speaker 6: I had great snacks.
- 3:18Speaker 4: That's all that matters.
- 3:19Speaker 6: So I was the winner, No, it was. I had
- 3:22Speaker 6: a good time. Yeah, it was interesting.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Well, you know, I was wrong in my prediction on
- 3:26Speaker 4: Friday show. I picked Kansas City to win twenty eight
- 3:29Speaker 4: twenty one. That's why I was definitely wrong about that.
- 3:32Speaker 4: I think the Chiefs. And by the way, I appreciate
- 3:35Speaker 4: everybody all five hundred and seventy one this sent me
- 3:38Speaker 4: the mean that said the Kansas City Chiefs identified as
- 3:40Speaker 4: the Dallas Cowboys. I got a lot of that, so
- 3:44Speaker 4: I appreciate it. Appreciate that from everybody. But all right,
- 3:47Speaker 4: so a couple of days from the big show.
- 3:49Speaker 6: Yeah, Estion starts this Wednesday, everybody interim's going on.
- 3:53Speaker 7: Terms start today and tomorrow and then we get into
- 3:55Speaker 7: the real deal at noon on Wednesday, and then we'll
- 3:58Speaker 7: have the State of the State that night. So I
- 4:00Speaker 7: hope you're ready for sixty days of chaos as usual.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Is it going to be sixty days of chaos in
- 4:05Speaker 4: your opinion?
- 4:06Speaker 6: Who knows?
- 4:06Speaker 7: It has been the last four years that I've been there.
- 4:10Speaker 6: So, but we'll see.
- 4:11Speaker 7: We have a new governor, so I do expect it
- 4:13Speaker 7: to be somewhat different this year. The legislature looks a
- 4:16Speaker 7: lot different and you know, lots of new members. I
- 4:19Speaker 7: think there's like thirty or forty new members total, and
- 4:22Speaker 7: new governor.
- 4:23Speaker 6: This is my first new governor, so okay.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Okay, yeah. And one thing about Governor Morrissey, I think,
- 4:29Speaker 4: and this is not necessarily a criticism, it's just, you know,
- 4:33Speaker 4: I can't stand the term. It is what it is,
- 4:35Speaker 4: but it is what it is. I think he's probably
- 4:37Speaker 4: going to have a bigger presence around the Capitol than
- 4:39Speaker 4: what the previous governor did. Would you agree with that?
- 4:41Speaker 6: I would agree with that.
- 4:41Speaker 7: It seems as such, he seems to be a lot
- 4:43Speaker 7: more transparent and you know, there and he came from
- 4:46Speaker 7: government in his last job, and so he kind of
- 4:49Speaker 7: knows the lay of the land, which I appreciate honestly.
- 4:52Speaker 4: So, you know, Governor Morrissey's been in charge for a
- 4:56Speaker 4: couple of weeks now, early on. Any any thoughts from
- 4:58Speaker 4: you on the administration so far.
- 5:00Speaker 6: I mean, he got straight to work.
- 5:02Speaker 7: I appreciate that he's doing pressers quite frequently and that
- 5:05Speaker 7: he's open to answering questions and talking to folks. I
- 5:07Speaker 7: haven't met with him yet, so I don't have a
- 5:09Speaker 7: huge personal opinion thus far. You know, I think some
- 5:12Speaker 7: of the stuff I'm really excited about. Some of it
- 5:14Speaker 7: I think is a bit of a waste of time.
- 5:16Speaker 4: So we'll see what's a waste of time in your opinion.
- 5:18Speaker 7: I mean, I think a lot of stuff that's mirrored
- 5:20Speaker 7: from the federal level. I'm excited about the administrative stuff
- 5:23Speaker 7: to go through and see what we're spending our money on.
- 5:26Speaker 7: Kind of the audit portion and streamlining government I think
- 5:29Speaker 7: is a really good thing. And we're doing that and
- 5:31Speaker 7: walking into and gum at the same time, unlike the
- 5:33Speaker 7: federal government, and so I'm.
- 5:36Speaker 6: I'm excited about that piece. The social stuff, I couldn't
- 5:38Speaker 6: care less.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Do you anticipate under this governor or maybe I should
- 5:42Speaker 4: say under this legislature because you mentioned the number of
- 5:45Speaker 4: new folks that are going to be in of course
- 5:46Speaker 4: there's a new leader over on the Senate side. Are
- 5:48Speaker 4: you anticipating there will be more focus on social issues
- 5:52Speaker 4: the hot button topics.
- 5:53Speaker 7: Or yeah, that's what a lot of the members have
- 5:55Speaker 7: made very clear. Are their issues same as the last
- 5:57Speaker 7: few years though, right, I think there's a large person
- 5:59Speaker 7: of people that either don't like government at all or
- 6:02Speaker 7: just want to do social issues. But we always end up,
- 6:05Speaker 7: you know, the stuff that's most of the stuff that's
- 6:06Speaker 7: in the headlines. Most of our time is spent doing
- 6:09Speaker 7: very boring things like making sure you still have roads
- 6:11Speaker 7: and schools and all those guys.
- 6:13Speaker 4: And a lot of times, a lot of time is
- 6:15Speaker 4: spent actually getting along that's right, with the Republicans in
- 6:18Speaker 4: the Americans that again, you know, and being a member
- 6:20Speaker 4: of the media, we take we take the blame for
- 6:22Speaker 4: that because it doesn't the things that you're working on
- 6:25Speaker 4: with with Republicans and so on, doesn't necessarily get the headlines.
- 6:29Speaker 4: But it happens a lot.
- 6:30Speaker 6: It does happen a lot.
- 6:30Speaker 7: I've spoken to Republicans this morning already about some legislation,
- 6:33Speaker 7: so it happens a lot.
- 6:35Speaker 4: What are you looking forward to with the State of
- 6:37Speaker 4: the State Wednesday night, Delegate.
- 6:38Speaker 7: I'm just excited to see how different it's going to be. Honestly,
- 6:41Speaker 7: I'm hopeful. I hope to hear some stuff about energy.
- 6:44Speaker 7: I hope to hear I'd love to hear about childcare
- 6:46Speaker 7: and how we can help reform our CPS system to
- 6:48Speaker 7: make it better for kids around West Virginia. I just
- 6:50Speaker 7: want to make West Virginia a great place.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Talking again with Delate Kayla Young the Dave Island showing

- 7:15Speaker 4: journey towards better health today. I'm going to have a
- 7:17Speaker 4: state Treasurre Larry Pack delegate on immediately after you. And
- 7:20Speaker 4: there seems to be some, I guess, discrepancy between the
- 7:23Speaker 4: budget numbers that the former governor now Senator Jim Justice
- 7:27Speaker 4: touted and what now Governor Morrissey is saying. And you know,
- 7:32Speaker 4: and Treasurer Pack was kind of a kind of in
- 7:35Speaker 4: the middle of all that, and I'll have him on
- 7:36Speaker 4: to talk about it. But so where are you on
- 7:38Speaker 4: all this on the on the budget numbers.
- 7:40Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I hope we're not all over the
- 7:41Speaker 7: place that we could just look at the numbers and
- 7:43Speaker 7: go from there altogether. But it seems like Justice was
- 7:46Speaker 7: saying we were having a surplus in the current year
- 7:49Speaker 7: budget and then now Morrissey's saying we're going to have
- 7:52Speaker 7: a huge default in the future year's budget. A lot
- 7:56Speaker 7: of those are moneies we knew were coming, like the
- 7:58Speaker 7: Hope Scholarship, our school voucher program, which is going to
- 8:01Speaker 7: cost at least an additional one hundred and twenty five
- 8:03Speaker 7: million dollars. The big deal, I think is that this
- 8:06Speaker 7: is the first year of a budget where we haven't
- 8:08Speaker 7: had an influx of money from Washington, DC thanks to
- 8:11Speaker 7: COVID funding this is our first COVID for year, and
- 8:13Speaker 7: with a lot of our COVID funding we did one
- 8:15Speaker 7: time spending that we're now going to have to continue
- 8:18Speaker 7: to pay for. You know, more things We've got to
- 8:20Speaker 7: pay for that we didn't in the past because we
- 8:23Speaker 7: had that influx of billions of federal dollars that just
- 8:26Speaker 7: aren't there. And so yeah, there's a lot of stuff
- 8:28Speaker 7: we're gonna have to pay for, which means we're gonna
- 8:30Speaker 7: have to make a lot of cuts.
- 8:31Speaker 6: So I'm not excited about that.
- 8:33Speaker 7: I don't know how we're going to do that with
- 8:35Speaker 7: the proposed pay raises that the governor also mentioned that
- 8:38Speaker 7: I'm fully in support of, but I don't know how
- 8:40Speaker 7: we can do that and be fiscally responsible at the
- 8:42Speaker 7: same time. We've had a flat budget for years, which
- 8:45Speaker 7: once you factor in inflation and you know the cost
- 8:48Speaker 7: of having to get new stuff all the time, whether
- 8:50Speaker 7: it be new technology or just paying for people's health insurance,
- 8:54Speaker 7: we haven't raised the amount of money that we've been
- 8:57Speaker 7: investing in our systems, and so we have a lot
- 9:00Speaker 7: to pay for.
- 9:02Speaker 4: You mentioned earlier childcare, and I know this is something
- 9:05Speaker 4: that you're very passionate about childcare, child issues in general,
- 9:08Speaker 4: the foster foster care system. Are you hopeful that we
- 9:11Speaker 4: can we could make some headway here.
- 9:13Speaker 7: I am hopeful, And it's a totally bipartisan issue that
- 9:16Speaker 7: we've been working on it for a few years and
- 9:17Speaker 7: there's a lot to do. We have a lot of
- 9:19Speaker 7: members of the legislature who are foster parents, have a
- 9:22Speaker 7: great perspective on it, and so they bring a lot
- 9:24Speaker 7: to the table. I'm actually working on a bill with
- 9:26Speaker 7: Paris Hilton in the state to work on reforming some of.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Our appayment Paris Hilton, Yeah, the Paris, the Paris Hilton.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Yeah, just got a bill.
- 9:35Speaker 7: She got a bill passed in Congress, bipartisan, almost unanimous
- 9:38Speaker 7: in Congress in December of you know, this past year.
- 9:41Speaker 7: And now she's at the state level. She was at
- 9:43Speaker 7: the state level, then went to Congress, and now I
- 9:45Speaker 7: was back at the states trying to get some stuff
- 9:46Speaker 7: that passed for more transparency because she was put in
- 9:49Speaker 7: a facility when she was a child that was abusive,
- 9:52Speaker 7: a neglect full and so she's trying to make sure
- 9:54Speaker 7: it doesn't happen to other kids. And West Virginia actually
- 9:56Speaker 7: has a really high rate of this happening, and so
- 9:58Speaker 7: we're trying to tackle it, and I've got by artists
- 10:00Speaker 7: and support.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I had no idea about that about Paris Hilton, of course,
- 10:03Speaker 4: I'm not necessarily mean.
- 10:05Speaker 7: Yeah, there's a documentary kind of those like scared Straight
- 10:07Speaker 7: places that they used to have in West Virginia has
- 10:10Speaker 7: a pretty pretty bad past with that, between that and
- 10:13Speaker 7: boarding schools, and so we've got a lot of work
- 10:15Speaker 7: to do in that area. But we're we're hopefully going
- 10:17Speaker 7: to get it done. So I'm hopeful to see some
- 10:19Speaker 7: CPS reform this year.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Before we let you go, I'm gonna go ahead and
- 10:23Speaker 4: just throw this out there to you and say, you know,
- 10:26Speaker 4: obviously you can do math, and you know that you
- 10:28Speaker 4: don't have a lot of numbers. Yeah, does that make
- 10:30Speaker 4: it more difficult, But as you said, you're one that's
- 10:33Speaker 4: willing to reach across the aisle. But I mean, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 4: you don't have a lot of you don't have a
- 10:36Speaker 4: lot of support as far as as.
- 10:38Speaker 7: Fellow dim So my caucus has nine in it in
- 10:40Speaker 7: the House. It does make it really hard to do things,
- 10:42Speaker 7: and the rules constantly changed to make it even harder
- 10:45Speaker 7: for us to do things. Because once we realized we
- 10:47Speaker 7: can get something over on them, they change the rules
- 10:49Speaker 7: so we can't and something over on Yeah, honestly, I
- 10:51Speaker 7: mean so, I mean like they're not gonna They're going
- 10:53Speaker 7: to propose that we can't have signs anymore where we
- 10:55Speaker 7: hold up a picture of a child that's died due
- 10:58Speaker 7: to a law that we had, so that that's one
- 11:00Speaker 7: of the rules that they're going to change. That's gonna
- 11:01Speaker 7: be the first thing we do on Wednesday, and it's
- 11:03Speaker 7: going to be a bit of a blowout, So that
- 11:04Speaker 7: will be an interesting thing I explain it. So in
- 11:08Speaker 7: the past few years, we realized reading through our rules,
- 11:11Speaker 7: so we govern ourselves on the house floor, and so
- 11:14Speaker 7: the rules didn't say anything about having any sort of
- 11:16Speaker 7: props or signs. So one year I started it by
- 11:19Speaker 7: bringing a picture of my son because I was talking
- 11:21Speaker 7: about the water crisis and he was an infant, so
- 11:23Speaker 7: I just wanted to display that. So then over the
- 11:25Speaker 7: years we've had signs. We've had some members bring graphs
- 11:28Speaker 7: of different things. There was a graph about unemployment and
- 11:31Speaker 7: our rates and pertaining to a bill. So now this
- 11:34Speaker 7: year there's a proposed rule that says we can't have
- 11:36Speaker 7: any signs in there, meaning the members.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Can't have any signs people in the crowd.
- 11:40Speaker 6: No, they won't be able to either.
- 11:41Speaker 7: Nobody will be able to have signed They already weren't allowed, okay,
- 11:45Speaker 7: but we were, and so they're changing that.
- 11:46Speaker 6: And I don't really understand why.
- 11:48Speaker 7: But so just things like that, A lot's changing in
- 11:50Speaker 7: the committee process. However, with our nine members, we do
- 11:53Speaker 7: work across the aisle. We do spend most of our
- 11:55Speaker 7: year playing defense. But I think it's important for you know,
- 11:58Speaker 7: everybody within the capital to have a voice.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Where are you on the changes? And I promise I'll
- 12:02Speaker 4: let you go after this. I just keep thinking of it.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Happy to be here thinking more stuff. Where are you
- 12:06Speaker 4: on the changes with the committee process? When the public
- 12:08Speaker 4: hearings and things of that nature, there's some changes.
- 12:11Speaker 7: I'm a little worried about getting rid of the public
- 12:12Speaker 7: hearings because now only the committee chair will get to
- 12:14Speaker 7: say who gets to speak. And I know the intention
- 12:17Speaker 7: is that for that person to hear from both sides,
- 12:19Speaker 7: but they've ben a lotter real decision they don't have
- 12:21Speaker 7: to do that. So I'm a little worried about that.
- 12:24Speaker 7: But overall, I think it's good to be more deliberate
- 12:26Speaker 7: and slow down the process.
- 12:27Speaker 6: I think we absolutely need that.
- 12:29Speaker 7: So kind of taking time and the taking of public
- 12:31Speaker 7: testimony I think will also be really good. There's a
- 12:33Speaker 7: bit more transparency this year, and I've been fighting for
- 12:35Speaker 7: that for a long time, so I'm I think most
- 12:38Speaker 7: of the new changes are good, not all.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Deli Kay Kaylee Young. It's always a pleasure to have

- 15:56Speaker 4: sometime later this morning, so it's going to be interesting
- 15:58Speaker 4: to hear her take on that as well, for with
- 16:00Speaker 4: Charles some Mere Danny Jones coming up a little bit
- 16:02Speaker 4: later on. Brian Hughes is here to preview another winter

- 16:08Speaker 4: Good morning, sir, Good morning, how are you. I'm doing
- 16:10Speaker 4: fine with your take on the country roads thing or
- 16:13Speaker 4: anything related to the super Bowl.
- 16:14Speaker 12: That way in on that and Lauren Daegele's singing America
- 16:19Speaker 12: Beautiful was absolutely the highlight of the night for me.
- 16:21Speaker 12: Both of those who are just absolutely fantastic. I'm a
- 16:24Speaker 12: Pittsburgh Steeler fan. I just kind of got through the
- 16:26Speaker 12: game part of it. But some of the commercials in
- 16:28Speaker 12: this and again Lauren Dagele got through Rose that was amazing.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I actually, and I know when it comes to the
- 16:35Speaker 4: National Anthem, people get really you know, some people like
- 16:38Speaker 4: different versions, some people don't. I will say that the
- 16:40Speaker 4: John Bati's version of the National Anthem, I don't know,
- 16:42Speaker 4: it was pretty good. It was very good. I thought
- 16:43Speaker 4: it was very good, very good. I want to start
- 16:45Speaker 4: with the hard stuff with you, Secretary, yes, sir, and
- 16:47Speaker 4: then we'll get into other stuff. Whatever you want to
- 16:49Speaker 4: talk about is a state revenue secretary, you had a
- 16:52Speaker 4: firm grip I guess on the check book of the state,
- 16:54Speaker 4: and you and then Governor now Senator Justice talked about
- 16:57Speaker 4: the state and glowing terms financially. Governor more has kind
- 17:01Speaker 4: of seen it in a little bit of a different lights.
- 17:04Speaker 4: You want to weigh in on that, well, I do.
- 17:06Speaker 12: I think it's I think again, it's just a matter
- 17:09Speaker 12: of priorities. I like to say it's a difference of
- 17:12Speaker 12: maybe the difference between my wife doing our home budget
- 17:15Speaker 12: and me doing my home budget. You know, everybody defines
- 17:17Speaker 12: wants and needs differently. Uh, what was you know governed
- 17:21Speaker 12: justice in his eight years administration, he focused on certain things,
- 17:25Speaker 12: focused on you know, on job growth, focused a lot
- 17:28Speaker 12: on roads and infrastructure, on tourism.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Uh.
- 17:31Speaker 12: Well, we'll be able to see Wednesday night what Governor
- 17:33Speaker 12: Morrisey focuses on. So I feel I feel very good
- 17:37Speaker 12: that our budget, our financial situation is in good shape.
- 17:40Speaker 12: We're in a really good position. But again, we'll see
- 17:42Speaker 12: how he puts it all together. It's a little bit
- 17:43Speaker 12: hard to see exactly what he's seen because again, how
- 17:48Speaker 12: you prioritize things. Anytime you go through a budget process,
- 17:51Speaker 12: all the different agencies, I mean, there's there's a gazillion
- 17:54Speaker 12: different ways to spend money, people with ideas to spend
- 17:57Speaker 12: money in state, in the state capital. What we'll see
- 17:59Speaker 12: when are the governor's priorities. West Virginia from a financial
- 18:03Speaker 12: statement standpoint, is in really good shape, probably the best
- 18:06Speaker 12: I've ever seen it in my lifetime. So we're going
- 18:09Speaker 12: to be good. I look forward to seeing what governor
- 18:10Speaker 12: brings brings out on Wednesday night and then we can
- 18:14Speaker 12: all kind of comment on it and go forward.
- 18:16Speaker 4: I'm sure you still talk with now Senator Justice. How
- 18:19Speaker 4: is he doing in d C.
- 18:20Speaker 12: He's loving it, absolutely loving it, working shoulder shoulder with
- 18:24Speaker 12: the other Republican senators to appoint President Trump's team, working
- 18:30Speaker 12: with President Trump, going to the White House, working on
- 18:33Speaker 12: big issues for West Virginia. He's in a really good
- 18:36Speaker 12: spot and he's really enjoyed it.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Speaking of d C for a moment, it's it's been
- 18:41Speaker 4: kind of a wild ride first couple of weeks with
- 18:44Speaker 4: the former president now current President Donald Trump back in
- 18:47Speaker 4: the White House. And I know, I know you're a
- 18:48Speaker 4: big fan of his, so I take it that you're
- 18:50Speaker 4: happy with what's going on with the President in this
- 18:53Speaker 4: short time in office so far.
- 18:54Speaker 12: Oh, I think it's just amazing. It really does show
- 18:56Speaker 12: that he was prepared and he was ready. He has
- 19:00Speaker 12: his team this time. When I went, my wife and
- 19:03Speaker 12: I went up to inauguration, we got to meet a
- 19:04Speaker 12: lot of people, a lot of the appointees for various
- 19:07Speaker 12: secretary positions. These are very accomplished people, but these are
- 19:11Speaker 12: not the run of the meal people. These are not
- 19:13Speaker 12: the Republican Goldman sacks people versus the Democrat Goldman sacks
- 19:17Speaker 12: people that we've seen in the past. These folks are
- 19:20Speaker 12: our glass breakers. They're there to change things, to kind
- 19:24Speaker 12: of kind of move things around a little bit and
- 19:26Speaker 12: go fast. So he's appointed. I think some very accomplished
- 19:29Speaker 12: people all across the federal government. They're moving so fast
- 19:33Speaker 12: it's hard to keep up with. I know I'm strigging
- 19:35Speaker 12: a little bit to keep up with it, but I
- 19:36Speaker 12: like what I see. Of course, I'm a financial guy,
- 19:40Speaker 12: so I'm kind of drawn to a lot of the
- 19:42Speaker 12: dose stuff, a lot of the uncovering of just waste,
- 19:45Speaker 12: wasteful spending that our taxpayers are West Virginia taxpayers, whether
- 19:48Speaker 12: they're Democrats Republican, have sent money to Washington, and I
- 19:52Speaker 12: think giving a good clean look at that thorough look
- 19:55Speaker 12: is really really good. They're overshoot sometimes, but again they're
- 19:58Speaker 12: not looking for things, you know, like to cut medicaid,
- 20:01Speaker 12: to cut medicare, to soci security. They're just looking at
- 20:04Speaker 12: the swamp waist and that's what they're finding. And they're
- 20:07Speaker 12: finding a lot of it, and I'm absolutely enjoying it.
- 20:09Speaker 4: See chosor Larry Packets here a day island showing five

- 20:24Speaker 4: for a moment, sir, I mean, there's a little bit
- 20:26Speaker 4: of controversy here with Elon Musk, and he's he's kind
- 20:28Speaker 4: of heading up this doge thing. A matter of fact,
- 20:30Speaker 4: I understand that they I don't know that he's going
- 20:32Speaker 4: to be there, but but there's a possibility of his
- 20:36Speaker 4: folks being in Parkersburg today. Some people have kind of
- 20:40Speaker 4: got a little heartburn over that, saying he's unelected and
- 20:43Speaker 4: he shouldn't have access to this. Where are you on that.
- 20:46Speaker 8: He's an envoy.
- 20:47Speaker 12: He's an appointment of the governor over the president, right,
- 20:49Speaker 12: so said the presidents. Can you know in the old days,
- 20:52Speaker 12: remember where they used to point tzars for this and
- 20:54Speaker 12: tzars for that. I think they're calling him an envoy,
- 20:56Speaker 12: but it's just somebody that will take a fresh look
- 21:00Speaker 12: about how we do government, how we spend money. I mean,
- 21:03Speaker 12: only the federal government can can get us into a
- 21:05Speaker 12: thirty two billion dollars thirty six billion dollar debt. Right,
- 21:08Speaker 12: that's what happens when you can print money and there's
- 21:10Speaker 12: no one looking, no one kind of seeing what it is.
- 21:12Speaker 12: I think a big part of what they're doing is
- 21:14Speaker 12: just making sure people are showing up to work. There's
- 21:16Speaker 12: a lot of rumors out there that a lot of
- 21:18Speaker 12: these big buildings were paying for they're absolutely empty empty.
- 21:21Speaker 4: It's a lot of a lot.
- 21:22Speaker 12: Of rumors where people haven't shown up for work for
- 21:24Speaker 12: years and years, maybe even have other jobs. That stuff's
- 21:27Speaker 12: going to be exposed. Uh, and it needs to be exposed.
- 21:30Speaker 12: The people in Wood County, that's a that's a really
- 21:32Speaker 12: big employer down there. But if they're not working and
- 21:35Speaker 12: they're not showing up, tax person wood County don't. They
- 21:38Speaker 12: don't want to pay for that. So it's going to
- 21:40Speaker 12: be very interesting to see what they what they find.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Uh.
- 21:43Speaker 12: They probably will overshoot a few times, but President Trump
- 21:46Speaker 12: will bringing back in if they if they go too
- 21:48Speaker 12: far and so forth. But uh, it's going to take
- 21:51Speaker 12: someone with his expertise, with his knowledge, uh, with with
- 21:54Speaker 12: Elon Muss's team I think really defined this. Our government
- 21:58Speaker 12: is so big that it's it takes someone. Again, I
- 22:01Speaker 12: think of his his abilities to be able to help
- 22:03Speaker 12: us identify waste, and if we do that, we can
- 22:05Speaker 12: slow down this spending and we'll be doing a big
- 22:08Speaker 12: favor for our kids and grandkids.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Let's talk about West Virginia in the midst of all this.
- 22:13Speaker 4: I mean again, there are, as we said that they're
- 22:15Speaker 4: expected to be some folks from DOGE that are going
- 22:17Speaker 4: to take a look some thing in Parkersburg. But with
- 22:19Speaker 4: the tariffs and things of that nature. And again you're
- 22:21Speaker 4: the financial guy, not me. So do you think that
- 22:24Speaker 4: a lot of these things that the President Trump was
- 22:26Speaker 4: looking at are going to be beneficial for West Virginia
- 22:28Speaker 4: in the long run? Are you concerned? Where are you there?
- 22:30Speaker 2: Well?
- 22:30Speaker 12: I think we're watching what the tariffs are. But so
- 22:32Speaker 12: much of the terriffs at this point has been to
- 22:35Speaker 12: protect American jobs, right terrish or fairness. He sunds to
- 22:39Speaker 12: me like he wants to make sure if we're paying
- 22:42Speaker 12: tariffs to some kind to a country, they're paying an
- 22:44Speaker 12: equal amount and mount to us. But it's all about
- 22:46Speaker 12: putting in America first some of us in negotiations. So
- 22:49Speaker 12: he's trying to get these countries to play fair with
- 22:53Speaker 12: you with the United States. So we have to see
- 22:56Speaker 12: how it all shakes out and kind of watch what happens.
- 22:59Speaker 12: But you can see how in his negotiation with Canada
- 23:02Speaker 12: and uh, Mexico, how that was basically part of a negotiation.
- 23:05Speaker 12: Seemed like you got worked out fairly, fairly quickly. So
- 23:08Speaker 12: President Trump was just one to move. Uh. He's worked
- 23:11Speaker 12: really through this last four years to get ready for
- 23:13Speaker 12: this time. I feel like he's making really good moves,
- 23:15Speaker 12: but I have to meet some of it. Uh, We're
- 23:17Speaker 12: gonna have to wait and let it shake out a
- 23:19Speaker 12: little bit.
- 23:20Speaker 8: Again.
- 23:20Speaker 4: We're talking with State Treasurer Larry Pack, So let's let's
- 23:23Speaker 4: focus on your office. You got some uh what I mean,
- 23:27Speaker 4: you're getting, You're getting in, you're getting settled into the
- 23:29Speaker 4: into the new role as a state treasurer. Just tell
- 23:32Speaker 4: us about them, Yes, sir, it's it's been.
- 23:34Speaker 12: It's really been a whirl where in the last the
- 23:35Speaker 12: last month to go from working for Governor Justice in
- 23:39Speaker 12: the Governor's office, it seems like we're going on a
- 23:41Speaker 12: lot of different directions to transition to the Treasure's office.
- 23:45Speaker 12: But we've got a really good team. I'm very thankful
- 23:47Speaker 12: for a treasure more and the team he's put together
- 23:50Speaker 12: really and luck and I have to give a shout
- 23:52Speaker 12: out also to to Treasure Purdue. A lot of people
- 23:55Speaker 12: are there from Treasure Purdue, so it's a really good team.
- 23:57Speaker 12: I'm learning, uh what they're working on, trying to add
- 24:00Speaker 12: value in different places. I'm very excited to be there.
- 24:04Speaker 12: It definitely fits my uh uh fits my expertise, and
- 24:09Speaker 12: so we're having a lot of fun with it. It's
- 24:11Speaker 12: we're about two hundred and two hundred fifty strong, so
- 24:14Speaker 12: we kind of we kind of I think, punch above
- 24:17Speaker 12: our weight, but of really looking forward to it. One
- 24:20Speaker 12: of the things I'd like to announce today is that
- 24:23Speaker 12: as Chairman of the State Board of Public State Board
- 24:27Speaker 12: of Treasury Investments, I plan to urge the Board to
- 24:29Speaker 12: approve a policy that would invest funds from Chinese own companies.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Uh.
- 24:33Speaker 12: That's something that you know. We will make sure that
- 24:35Speaker 12: our citizens can know that we're they can trust our
- 24:37Speaker 12: office to make sure we're making the right decisions. But
- 24:40Speaker 12: we need we in West Virginia need to take a
- 24:42Speaker 12: stand against investing in countries that are considered bad actors.
- 24:46Speaker 12: China definitely fits that bill, and like President Trump, I
- 24:49Speaker 12: plan on putting American industry in West Virginia first. Investing
- 24:53Speaker 12: in China is just good policy. So we have a
- 24:56Speaker 12: meeting on February twenty fifth, and at that meeting, I
- 24:59Speaker 12: plan on making a motion to prove a prohibited foreign
- 25:02Speaker 12: investment policy. And basically, if there's a company that is
- 25:06Speaker 12: owned by the People's Republic of China, the Chinese Communist Party,
- 25:10Speaker 12: or the Chinese military will be prohibited from investing state
- 25:14Speaker 12: funds in that The Bureau of Treasury Investments is the
- 25:18Speaker 12: short term arm of the investments for the States. So
- 25:22Speaker 12: we got about ten and a half billion dollars of
- 25:24Speaker 12: state tax payer money on that in that so we look,
- 25:28Speaker 12: this is the first step of a two step process.
- 25:31Speaker 12: In July, become the chairman of the Investment Management Board.
- 25:34Speaker 12: Investment Management Board they invest the long term part of
- 25:39Speaker 12: the state's investments, think mostly pension funds. So when I've
- 25:42Speaker 12: become chairman in July, we start working with that group.
- 25:46Speaker 12: We've always had some discussions and see that we can't
- 25:48Speaker 12: institute a similar policy there. But it's all about protecting
- 25:51Speaker 12: our assets, protecting taxpayer's assets, make sure that we're investing
- 25:55Speaker 12: in properly and that we're not investing people that are
- 25:57Speaker 12: working against our way of life.
- 25:59Speaker 4: You anticipate that be any pushback on this from anyone?
- 26:02Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Man.
- 26:03Speaker 12: You know, board members when we come, whether you're a
- 26:06Speaker 12: board member the Bureau Treasure Investments or the Investment Management Board,
- 26:10Speaker 12: you know we have a fiduciary duty to make sure
- 26:12Speaker 12: that we're being prudent investors. But I think is a
- 26:14Speaker 12: really good case to not invest in companies owned by
- 26:18Speaker 12: the Chinese Communist Party. I think again, it's good policy,
- 26:22Speaker 12: and I think we'll get through that.
- 26:24Speaker 6: Again.
- 26:24Speaker 12: We've we've had discussions in both boards for for for months,
- 26:28Speaker 12: so this is not will not be a surprise, but
- 26:30Speaker 12: we'll be very prudent about it. Will take your time,
- 26:33Speaker 12: make sure we get to write policy in place.
- 26:35Speaker 4: It's treasure Larry Pack. It's always a pleasure to have
- 26:37Speaker 4: you on the show. I appreciate you do let's stop
- 26:39Speaker 4: buying it. You're a busy guy. I appreciate you being here.

- 29:19Speaker 4: five zero zero eight. Let's go to meteorologist Brian Hughes
- 29:22Speaker 4: from Storm Track of thirteen. Good morning, sir, how are you.
- 29:25Speaker 16: I'm doing great on this post Super Bowl Monday, except
- 29:29Speaker 16: in fact my chief's loss.
- 29:30Speaker 3: But I thought they were probably going to do anyways,
- 29:32Speaker 3: Oh so.
- 29:32Speaker 4: You actually predicted Kansas City to lose? I did not, well,
- 29:37Speaker 4: you know, as.
- 29:38Speaker 16: Much as I want to pull from my boy Patrick Mahomes,
- 29:40Speaker 16: who is a Texas Tech graduate and a you see,
- 29:44Speaker 16: you know, I had like GPA of three point eight. Anyways,
- 29:48Speaker 16: you know, I just knew that watching the Eagles two
- 29:51Speaker 16: weeks ago, I was like Oh, this is not the
- 29:53Speaker 16: team we want to face.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, nobody was playing better in the NFL
- 29:56Speaker 4: than what the Eagles were the last five six weeks
- 29:58Speaker 4: of the season.
- 29:59Speaker 16: Nobody, right, and congrats to them. So anyways, I'm also
- 30:06Speaker 16: a lines fan. I was there for the and sixteen season.
- 30:09Speaker 3: I get youd every home game.
- 30:11Speaker 4: All right, So what is this? I mean, here's the
- 30:13Speaker 4: thing about this particular weather system, Brian. I mean, like
- 30:15Speaker 4: back in January, for example, everybody knew was coming, you know,
- 30:18Speaker 4: with the ice and snow, and we suffered through that.
- 30:22Speaker 7: Uh.
- 30:22Speaker 4: But this is a little bit different because every model
- 30:25Speaker 4: that I've seen, and I'm a bit of a weather geek,
- 30:27Speaker 4: every model that I have seen is predicting something different.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Even all the stations are predicting something different. So what
- 30:35Speaker 4: say you, weather guy?
- 30:37Speaker 16: Believe me, I've watched I've seen a couple of the
- 30:39Speaker 16: other things.
- 30:40Speaker 3: The other things put out. I'm like, are you kidding me?
- 30:43Speaker 3: Here's the deal.
- 30:44Speaker 16: We need to proceed with caution on this because when
- 30:48Speaker 16: you start on Tomorrow morning and you see it snowing
- 30:51Speaker 16: outside and it's gonna snow pretty heavy at a certain
- 30:54Speaker 16: point for maybe an hour or two, you're gonna go, oh,
- 30:57Speaker 16: this day's ruined. It's need to go out, and then
- 31:01Speaker 16: all of a sudden, the rain starts and you're like, oh,
- 31:02Speaker 16: I guess I can go out today.
- 31:04Speaker 3: That's the that's what's going to be happening tomorrow as
- 31:07Speaker 3: we have.
- 31:08Speaker 16: These snow showers that move in as we go into
- 31:11Speaker 16: you know, about seven ish. Matter of fact, actually, as
- 31:14Speaker 16: I look at the forecast model that just came in
- 31:18Speaker 16: here within the last two hours, I mean, once we
- 31:21Speaker 16: get to you know, seven.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Am tomorrow morning, the snow line.
- 31:25Speaker 16: Is just right on our doorsteps starting to work at
- 31:27Speaker 16: Swaynetokinaal County. By nine o'clock, I mean, we've got some
- 31:31Speaker 16: pretty good snow.
- 31:32Speaker 3: By ten o'clock gets.
- 31:32Speaker 16: Fine, the rains starting to mix in, and then the
- 31:35Speaker 16: rain takes over for the rest of the day, especially
- 31:37Speaker 16: for the warm wedge, which you know, myself, Spencer Atkins, Krisal,
- 31:43Speaker 16: Joe fitz Water, we were all teching back and forth,
- 31:44Speaker 16: and you know, I straight said, the wedge wins again today,
- 31:48Speaker 16: you know, or of Tuesday.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Boys. So that's just periods in the story. Everybody's like, yep, sure.
- 31:52Speaker 16: Is so by ten am tomorrow the rain starts to
- 31:55Speaker 16: mix in and then we're done with the snow for
- 31:58Speaker 16: you know, as far as accumulating for the rest of
- 32:01Speaker 16: the day into the night time hours.
- 32:02Speaker 4: So how is it, though, that all that? I mean again,
- 32:04Speaker 4: I'm not I'm not trying to cause the weather war here, okay,
- 32:08Speaker 4: but but I mean, how is it that? I mean,
- 32:10Speaker 4: I just looked at the forecast from the National Weather
- 32:13Speaker 4: Service and it says for Charleston up to eight inches
- 32:15Speaker 4: of snow. Three to eight at their five to eight
- 32:17Speaker 4: I think is what it said. So but but I mean,
- 32:21Speaker 4: how can everybody look at something and come come up
- 32:23Speaker 4: with a different conclusion.
- 32:24Speaker 16: Well, and here's here's the deal that I'm gonna say
- 32:28Speaker 16: this right now that might be actually in legacy text
- 32:30Speaker 16: that should.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Not be there right now, ok because.
- 32:33Speaker 16: I always say that because their new models are now
- 32:36Speaker 16: in line with what we are we are saying as
- 32:40Speaker 16: of this morning, which is Charleston's total, we'll probably end
- 32:44Speaker 16: up somewhere around one to two inches at.
- 32:46Speaker 4: Best, one to two inches at best, says Brian Hughes.
- 32:50Speaker 16: At best, one to two inches at best, And that's
- 32:52Speaker 16: going to be a slushy snow because you know you're
- 32:54Speaker 16: gonna have that snow that'll happen.
- 32:55Speaker 3: That'll snow between seven.
- 32:58Speaker 16: And you know, ten o'clock in the morning and then
- 33:00Speaker 16: by tennants switching over to rain, and that rain is
- 33:02Speaker 16: gonna take over.
- 33:03Speaker 3: So and that wedge is gonna win all the way.
- 33:06Speaker 16: Up to Clarksburg, where it'll be a slushy one to
- 33:08Speaker 16: two inches almost the Clarksburg.
- 33:10Speaker 4: And it's not gonna be really cold enough from what
- 33:12Speaker 4: I understand in watching you this morning for us to
- 33:15Speaker 4: worry about like a hard refreeze or something later in
- 33:17Speaker 4: the night. Is that correct.
- 33:19Speaker 16: Yeah, We're not gonna have anything that's gonna be you know,
- 33:22Speaker 16: anything that's gonna refreeze.
- 33:24Speaker 3: It's cause ice.
- 33:25Speaker 16: Problems in our area. The only thing that'll be icing
- 33:28Speaker 16: will be Greenbrier Valley and that's gonna be on Wednesday
- 33:31Speaker 16: evening into the nighttime hours.
- 33:33Speaker 3: But that's you know, that's so far away from us.
- 33:35Speaker 16: Is really more removed than anything. But this storm is
- 33:39Speaker 16: more bark than it is bite.
- 33:40Speaker 3: A matter of fact, that was just in my morning
- 33:42Speaker 3: meeting with.
- 33:42Speaker 16: The Newsest Department, I said, bark is a loud bite
- 33:45Speaker 16: is not much on this. But I'm concerned as a
- 33:49Speaker 16: collective hole about the amount of moisture that we're going
- 33:51Speaker 16: to be getting because we'll see, you know, an inch
- 33:55Speaker 16: Mersey rain maybe out of this here a half inch
- 33:57Speaker 16: to an inch. But then you add up it's going
- 34:00Speaker 16: to happen, you know, going into Wednesday and in this weekend,
- 34:03Speaker 16: and that's just a lot more water that we do
- 34:05Speaker 16: not need.
- 34:05Speaker 4: I mean, that seems to be the bigger issue here.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Is that not necessarily the snow, but the amount of moisture,
- 34:10Speaker 4: you know, with the rain and everything. Because we've had
- 34:12Speaker 4: a whole lot brain.
- 34:13Speaker 16: Oh man, listen, when I can, when I can stand
- 34:16Speaker 16: in the pilot house in my boat and look down
- 34:18Speaker 16: upon my street, we have problems, all right.
- 34:20Speaker 3: So that's what I'm looking at.
- 34:21Speaker 4: So again, give us the timeline tomorrow morning, because I
- 34:24Speaker 4: know a lot of folks like myself, we hit the road.
- 34:26Speaker 4: You know, I leave my house around seven or so
- 34:28Speaker 4: in the morning. Maybe pran on leaving a little bit earlier,
- 34:30Speaker 4: or is it even going to create an problems on that?
- 34:31Speaker 16: I would think that I would think that tomorrow, you
- 34:34Speaker 16: leaving at seven or even maybe you know at seven
- 34:37Speaker 16: to seven thirty, you're going to be fine getting into
- 34:40Speaker 16: work eight.
- 34:41Speaker 3: To nine o'clock.
- 34:42Speaker 16: That's when snow will be at its quote unquote heaviest
- 34:44Speaker 16: and worse. But you know that's when we're going to
- 34:48Speaker 16: have you know, it's starting to pile up within by
- 34:50Speaker 16: nineteen o'clock we start to see that transition over to
- 34:52Speaker 16: rain shower. So if you want to go out for
- 34:54Speaker 16: lunch at noon, you have no fear it's going to
- 34:56Speaker 16: be just wet.
- 34:57Speaker 4: All right, Brian, appreciate you man, Thanks a lot.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Absolutely, have a great day.

- 35:33Speaker 4: doing fun all right, we'll get to you in just
- 35:34Speaker 4: one second. Sexast saying the stadium or even half of
- 35:38Speaker 4: the stadium was singing country roads. It's a bit indulgent.
- 35:41Speaker 4: The multiple camera shots showed most people talking to each
- 35:44Speaker 4: other as a handful saying the West Virginia national anthem
- 35:49Speaker 4: Texas Larry Pack wants to divest from China. Larry Pack
- 35:52Speaker 4: wants to continue to kill the coal industry, says A
- 35:56Speaker 4: texture tex says this pack think our vets are suckers, losers,
- 36:00Speaker 4: and it's okay to sexually assault women. It's a texture.
- 36:04Speaker 4: West Virginia says, A texture is going has done great
- 36:06Speaker 4: under Biden. Lots of good jobs came here. What's Trumps?
- 36:10Speaker 4: What Trump is doing is going to do cost West
- 36:12Speaker 4: Virginia call jobs? All right? Hey man, how you doing?
- 36:17Speaker 7: Dan?
- 36:18Speaker 17: You got some Trump vaders texting this show?
- 36:22Speaker 4: I do, I do, I just I don't. I don't know.
- 36:24Speaker 4: There are nameless people, Danny. They they just text the
- 36:27Speaker 4: show and I just I just read it, man, I
- 36:29Speaker 4: just read it.
- 36:30Speaker 17: Yeah, Well, Larry Pack doesn't approve of any of that. Well,
- 36:34Speaker 17: I mean saying that Dry's one of my closest friends.
- 36:36Speaker 17: I was going to say saying that.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Larry Pack is somebody who's going to cost West Virginia jobs.
- 36:40Speaker 4: I mean, I'd have a hard time going on with that.
- 36:43Speaker 17: Trump and Musk for both disruptors. And that's what's going
- 36:48Speaker 17: on now. And change is tough. Change is tough, especially
- 36:54Speaker 17: big change. And that's what I say, maybe the beginning
- 36:58Speaker 17: of if they go through with it, dismantled the Department of.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Education, that's going to be next they see.
- 37:05Speaker 17: Well, I went to school when there wasn't any Department
- 37:08Speaker 17: of Education, and now there's a disproportionate number of eighth
- 37:13Speaker 17: graders in our country that can't read. And that's with
- 37:18Speaker 17: the Department of Education. So I'm what's missing here. And
- 37:23Speaker 17: plus it would save two and a half three dollars
- 37:26Speaker 17: between now over ten years. And this country is broke.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Don't pay attention to him. That's just TJ. Mettis. He
- 37:34Speaker 4: just comes in and hangs out from time to time.
- 37:37Speaker 4: So what about FEMA, Because who heard over the weekend
- 37:41Speaker 4: that Trump is saying he was talking about this situation
- 37:44Speaker 4: and let's face it, the response with FEMA is not
- 37:47Speaker 4: always the best in the world. West Virginia will kind
- 37:50Speaker 4: of a lot of a lot of listeners will we'll
- 37:52Speaker 4: say the same thing. I'm not trying to totally throw
- 37:54Speaker 4: them one of the bus. But when you look at California,
- 37:57Speaker 4: you look at what happened in western North Carolina with
- 38:01Speaker 4: the with the remnants of the hurricane, he's saying that
- 38:04Speaker 4: that FEMA could be on the child of block too.
- 38:06Speaker 17: What do you think there's nothing to replace it with
- 38:09Speaker 17: David and my experience, I was emergency services director for
- 38:14Speaker 17: Charleston for a year and FEMA was a godsend. I
- 38:19Speaker 17: mean it was. It would come in, set up tables,
- 38:22Speaker 17: have applications, they hire people from all over and by
- 38:26Speaker 17: the way, National Travel they are the travel agency for
- 38:31Speaker 17: the entire FEMA in the country. So whenever they travel,
- 38:35Speaker 17: they could they go through Charleston, West Virginia. My experience
- 38:38Speaker 17: is good. If it's changed, or if they need a
- 38:42Speaker 17: new director or they you know, it's Trump's call.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you would agree, Danny and you and
- 38:47Speaker 4: I have talked about this in the past that Trump
- 38:49Speaker 4: is somebody who thrives on chaos and he comes in
- 38:52Speaker 4: and he says a lot of things, and he knows
- 38:55Speaker 4: that some of them aren't going to happen. I heard
- 38:57Speaker 4: it over the weekend. I think I wanted to show.
- 38:59Speaker 4: Somebody said, it's like throwing spaghetti against the wall. You
- 39:02Speaker 4: know it's not gonna stick, but there might be one
- 39:04Speaker 4: little stain that goes down the wallpaper. Uh, you're not
- 39:08Speaker 4: always the biggest Trump fan in the world. I certainly
- 39:10Speaker 4: am not always the biggest Trump fan in the world.
- 39:12Speaker 4: But what do you think about the hurricane Trump that's
- 39:14Speaker 4: come through in the first couple of weeks.
- 39:15Speaker 17: I'm not surprised. And what he's doing, David, He's occupying
- 39:19Speaker 17: the space. Biden occupied no space. Trump's occupying all the space.
- 39:26Speaker 17: And except for Musk, these guys are occupying. He has
- 39:29Speaker 17: a press conference every day, and he does it from
- 39:31Speaker 17: the Oval office, and the guy hands him an executive
- 39:35Speaker 17: order to sign, tells him what's in it, and he
- 39:37Speaker 17: does why, and then he takes a question from the press.
- 39:41Speaker 17: I mean, there's a part of this the press has
- 39:43Speaker 17: got to love because they've got something to do, and
- 39:46Speaker 17: they don't and they don't have a they don't have
- 39:48Speaker 17: a president in hiding.
- 39:50Speaker 4: And basically, I mean that's that's what you had over
- 39:53Speaker 4: because I mean you had you had Joe Biden, who
- 39:57Speaker 4: wasn't out in front of the public, and then later
- 39:59Speaker 4: we learned why. And then even when you look at
- 40:03Speaker 4: Kamala Harris, for the longest time, she wasn't accessible to
- 40:07Speaker 4: the press, even to her people in the Democratic Party saying, look,
- 40:10Speaker 4: you have got to get out and talk to people.
- 40:12Speaker 17: Well, it's carryo at the risk of offending somebody. She
- 40:17Speaker 17: didn't say anything when she did get out. I mean,
- 40:20Speaker 17: I just I was never impressed with her, and they
- 40:22Speaker 17: should have put somebody else up. In my opinion, I
- 40:26Speaker 17: think governor from Pennsylvania would have been a great candidate
- 40:30Speaker 17: for the Democrats. A lot of people thought that, yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 17: but he's probably too conservative, too practical to fracking, and
- 40:41Speaker 17: quite frankly Jewish. And I think that that's the part
- 40:45Speaker 17: of the Democrat Party that I'm seeing change. And it
- 40:50Speaker 17: used to be the anti Semitism used to be on
- 40:52Speaker 17: the right, and now part of it is on the left.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Talking to former Charles the mayor, Danny Jones six says,
- 40:59Speaker 4: the same people that are afraid of Doge wanted to
- 41:01Speaker 4: hire eighty seven thousand additional irs agents to audit you.
- 41:05Speaker 17: Yeah, I'm glad that's not going to happen. I mean,
- 41:09Speaker 17: we don't we don't need any more federal employees.
- 41:14Speaker 4: What do you think about Morrissey's first couple of weeks
- 41:16Speaker 4: in office.
- 41:18Speaker 17: I don't know who or what to believe. I mean,
- 41:22Speaker 17: he seems like he's doing okay to me. I don't
- 41:26Speaker 17: know about the numbers.
- 41:28Speaker 4: There seems to be a description. You heard my interview
- 41:30Speaker 4: I did with Larry Pack a little bit earlier, and
- 41:31Speaker 4: I was at the Legislative look Ahead on Friday, which
- 41:34Speaker 4: I'm going to go on talk line to talk about
- 41:36Speaker 4: it a little bit later on. There seems to be
- 41:38Speaker 4: I mean, on one hand, you had Governor Justice now
- 41:41Speaker 4: Senator Justice, and you had Larry Pack talking about this
- 41:44Speaker 4: is you know, State's in the great financial shape as
- 41:46Speaker 4: it's ever been in. Then Morrissey comes in and says, well,
- 41:49Speaker 4: you know, let's pump the brakes a little bit, let's
- 41:51Speaker 4: hold on a little bit. I mean, you're a guy
- 41:53Speaker 4: who studies this stuff. What do you think did he
- 41:55Speaker 4: say we.
- 41:55Speaker 17: Were four hundred million dollars underwater?
- 41:57Speaker 4: Is that what he's Yeah, it was four hundred million dollar.
- 42:00Speaker 17: Yeah, there's a big discrepancy.
- 42:02Speaker 4: There, well, Larry said, and he said this on the
- 42:04Speaker 4: air this morning also at the Legislative look Ahead. He said,
- 42:07Speaker 4: it's the difference between me me talking about the budget
- 42:10Speaker 4: in the House and my wife talking about the budget
- 42:12Speaker 4: in the house. Many people can take a look at
- 42:15Speaker 4: the same numbers and draw different conclusions from them.
- 42:19Speaker 17: I think we're gonna have to wait and see and
- 42:20Speaker 17: see what he says. He'll give a state of the
- 42:22Speaker 17: state soon.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Yeah, Wednesday night, Wednesday night.
- 42:26Speaker 17: And we'll listen to see what he says, and now
- 42:29Speaker 17: he captures it and find out what his truth is.
- 42:33Speaker 4: Former Charles s Mary Danny Jones is here. Is here
- 42:36Speaker 4: older adults would protect themselves against severe respiratory disease. Talk
- 42:39Speaker 4: to your doctor about flu, COVID nineteen and RSV vaccines
- 42:42Speaker 4: riskless do more get started at vaccines dot gov. Paid
- 42:45Speaker 4: for by the US Department of Health and Human Services.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Quick text before we go to break, remember says attacked
- 42:50Speaker 4: with these Marxists that have taken over the Democrat Party
- 42:52Speaker 4: in Congress that are freaking out over doge audit of
- 42:55Speaker 4: our money, are the same people who passed a bill
- 42:57Speaker 4: required payment companies and cash app like Venmo and paypals
- 43:01Speaker 4: report payments you make of six hundred dollars or more.
- 43:04Speaker 4: They have not one ounce of shame at all. And
- 43:07Speaker 4: why aren't a lot of people including myself? That's why,
- 43:11Speaker 4: says the texture. A lot of people walked away from
- 43:13Speaker 4: that bunch. We're gonna take a break back after this
- 43:15Speaker 4: on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Brought to you by the Eric Jtar Family Businesses. Eric J.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Tar Family Businesses want to thank you for shopping locally.
- 43:28Speaker 18: Oh you build a restoration, you can always count on us.

- 47:17Speaker 4: at Meexrealtygroup dot com. Speaking of real estate, I want
- 47:20Speaker 4: to get your opinion on this, Dany. It was announced
- 47:22Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago that one of the anchors
- 47:24Speaker 4: of the Charlestontown Center, J C. Penny was going to
- 47:27Speaker 4: be closing their doors in May and other hits to
- 47:30Speaker 4: the downtown, to the town center, and you certainly remember
- 47:32Speaker 4: it as well as I do. Know you better than
- 47:34Speaker 4: me remember the thriving Charlestontown center of the eighties and nineties.
- 47:41Speaker 17: I mean, oh, I had a business downtown and it
- 47:44Speaker 17: took about twenty five percent of my business.
- 47:46Speaker 4: Is it done? Is a town center done?
- 47:47Speaker 17: And you're oh, yeah, and the owner acts like he
- 47:53Speaker 17: wants it to be done. I've never seen anything like
- 47:55Speaker 17: this when Pennies first. First thing, I think Pennies if
- 47:58Speaker 17: it's like it was when they they opened, they owned
- 48:01Speaker 17: that property and they had a catalog store then that's
- 48:06Speaker 17: for the internet or all that. And they had a
- 48:08Speaker 17: catalog store just like Seares and Robuck had a catalog store,
- 48:12Speaker 17: and people used to go in there and look through
- 48:14Speaker 17: the book and order stuff. And now it's down to
- 48:18Speaker 17: nothing and it's really sad, and it just from where
- 48:23Speaker 17: I said, it doesn't look like anybody's getting any encouragement
- 48:27Speaker 17: to stay there. I'd have kept those restaurants there if
- 48:29Speaker 17: I had to give them free rent.
- 48:31Speaker 4: You as mayor you would have done that, or well.
- 48:33Speaker 17: You can't do it as mayor of the owner, but
- 48:36Speaker 17: I don't know what the owner's agenda is.
- 48:38Speaker 4: I mean this if you if you look back at
- 48:40Speaker 4: some other properties that the whole group has done, this
- 48:42Speaker 4: is kind of from my research, this is kind of
- 48:45Speaker 4: their modus operandi. I mean, this is kind of what
- 48:47Speaker 4: they what they do. They they come in and you know,
- 48:50Speaker 4: I had the owner of them all, mister Hall himself,
- 48:53Speaker 4: on the show with the mayor, Mayor Goodwin when the
- 48:55Speaker 4: announcement was made, and it was you know, we're gonna
- 48:58Speaker 4: do this, We're gonna do that. And here we set
- 48:59Speaker 4: and we're gonna do what I mean, we're gonna we're
- 49:02Speaker 4: gonna build it, we're gonna make it. This was whenever
- 49:04Speaker 4: the announcement was made two three years ago, and they've
- 49:07Speaker 4: done basically nothing with it, and it's now it's just
- 49:12Speaker 4: a shell. There's just I don't even know how many
- 49:13Speaker 4: stores are even. I can't even tell you. And I
- 49:15Speaker 4: work in downtown Charleston, Danny, I can't even tell you
- 49:17Speaker 4: the last time I was in the town Center. It's
- 49:19Speaker 4: been it's been a year.
- 49:20Speaker 17: You've got some stores up there on the on the
- 49:23Speaker 17: third floor that like, what's the chicken place.
- 49:27Speaker 4: What's the religious place for chick fil a? Chick fil A?
- 49:31Speaker 17: They're still making it?
- 49:32Speaker 4: Are they still there?
- 49:33Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 49:34Speaker 4: All know they do a good business. That should tell
- 49:35Speaker 4: you how much I.
- 49:36Speaker 17: And some of those stores are making it. But I
- 49:41Speaker 17: don't know what other stores are doing well. It's just
- 49:43Speaker 17: a matter of time for them. But what what what
- 49:47Speaker 17: is he gonna do with it? If he's just let
- 49:49Speaker 17: it empty out?
- 49:50Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 49:51Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Speaking of food, right across the street from where you
- 49:55Speaker 4: hang out, Queer Diner has opened up again.
- 49:58Speaker 17: They are killing them.
- 50:00Speaker 4: I mean that's they are doing so well. They had
- 50:02Speaker 4: a grand opening on Friday. I didn't get a chance
- 50:04Speaker 4: with ten I was at the Capitol, but I know
- 50:06Speaker 4: our news team was there there and did a little
- 50:07Speaker 4: story on it. That's I had lunch there about a
- 50:09Speaker 4: month or so ago. Pretty good stuff and it's a
- 50:12Speaker 4: great shot in the arm for Charleston to have that.
- 50:13Speaker 17: It's exciting and all people wanted was a good restaurant.
- 50:17Speaker 17: They wanted to go there because the QD. I mean
- 50:19Speaker 17: I went there when I was four years old, and
- 50:24Speaker 17: it's it was going to be the first place to
- 50:28Speaker 17: have liquor by the drink when twice it went in
- 50:31Speaker 17: front of the voters and twice it was turned down.
- 50:34Speaker 17: And then we had that private club liquor law, which
- 50:37Speaker 17: is completely unconstitutional. If you read the state constitution, it's unconstitutional.
- 50:42Speaker 4: But Dave Island showing five Eddy Live brighthe part by
- 50:44Speaker 4: Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm, Texas. Is
- 50:47Speaker 4: great to hear Danny on this morning. He has a
- 50:50Speaker 4: world of historical information and common sense. He had common sense, Danny.
- 50:56Speaker 17: Yeah, and the to the anti Israel guy, you know
- 51:02Speaker 17: what the Civil War ended when Sherman said Georgia on
- 51:06Speaker 17: fire and dressed, and they bombed dressed. And in the
- 51:11Speaker 17: World War two, that was a totally city that wasn't
- 51:15Speaker 17: hurting anybody over in Germany, they set it on fire,
- 51:18Speaker 17: killed twenty five thousand people. It's war. That's what happens
- 51:22Speaker 17: in war. Now, if if the Hamas wanted to keep
- 51:26Speaker 17: their government and keep everything the way it was, they
- 51:28Speaker 17: shouldn't have They shouldn't have attacked Israel.
- 51:32Speaker 4: Danny, it's always a pleasure to have you on the show,
- 51:34Speaker 4: and I appreciate it always, and I agree with the texture.
- 51:36Speaker 4: You do have a wealth of historical information and common sense.
- 51:40Speaker 4: And I think that you ought to talk to the
- 51:42Speaker 4: folks at Coreyer Diner and go back there and cook
- 51:46Speaker 4: a little bit. I'm saying they know what they're doing.
- 51:49Speaker 4: They don't know, but adding some of that chicken soup
- 51:51Speaker 4: that you made it, you know what they're saying. They
- 51:54Speaker 4: know what they're doing. DJ Meadows is here, Danny, hang
- 51:58Speaker 4: out with you one second, TJ. What's on the big show.
- 52:00Speaker 4: I'm really bringing the IQ level down on this show
