- 0:12Top of the morning. Top of the afternoon.
- 0:14Top of the evening. Hello.
- 0:16Hello, friends. It's Sean here.
- 0:18It is indeed a new day and you have chosen to invite me in.
- 0:23It's Thursday. It is the 11th of the 7th, 2024
- 0:29and what do you know, here we find ourselves taking a moment
- 0:33of pause in your day, whether it is chock a block full of stuff
- 0:38coming at you fast, or whether it's a spacious day or somewhere
- 0:42in between. So great that you have found a
- 0:45moment to tap on plate. Or maybe you are just bingeing
- 0:48Bible chapters. You are getting them done.
- 0:50You are working your way through John, wherever you are.
- 0:53Whichever one of these applies to you, I am so glad to have
- 0:57your company as we are going to head back in time to those dusty
- 1:03streets, walking around, dust in our sandals, sunshine in our
- 1:08shoulders, oppression of the Roman Empire bearing down on us,
- 1:13wonder filling our heart as we see the Messiah doing what he is
- 1:19doing before us, blowing our mind.
- 1:24Today we're going to hear about Jesus healing.
- 1:27We are going to hear Jesus teaching.
- 1:30And it is just glorious to be in his company as we share this
- 1:35together. So if you're ready, I'm ready.
- 1:39I think we should do it. Let us read together John
- 1:43Chapter 9. As Jesus was walking along, he
- 1:56saw a man who had been blind from birth.
- 1:59Rabbi His disciples asked him why was this man born blind?
- 2:04Was it because of his own sins or his parents sins?
- 2:08It was not because of his sins or his parents sins, Jesus
- 2:12answered. This happens so the power of God
- 2:15could be seen in Him. We must quickly carry out the
- 2:20tasks assigned to us by the One who sent us.
- 2:23The night is coming and then no one can work.
- 2:26But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the
- 2:30world. Then he spit on the ground, made
- 2:34mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man's
- 2:37eyes. He told him go wash yourself in
- 2:41the pool of Siloam. Siloam means scent.
- 2:45So the man went and washed and came back seeing his neighbours
- 2:50and others are knew him as the blind beggar asked each other.
- 2:54Isn't this the man who used to sit and beg?
- 2:57Some said he was and others said no he just looks like him.
- 3:02But the beggar kept saying yes I am the same one.
- 3:07They asked who healed you, what happened?
- 3:10He told them the man they called Jesus made mud and spread it
- 3:15over my eyes and told me go to the pool of Siloam and wash
- 3:19yourself. So I went and washed and now I
- 3:23can see. Where is he now?
- 3:26They asked. I don't know, he replied.
- 3:29Then they took the man who had been blind to the Pharisees,
- 3:32because it was on the Sabbath that Jesus had made the mud and
- 3:35healed him. The Pharisees asked the man all
- 3:38about it, so he told them. He put the mud over my eyes and
- 3:43when I washed it away I could see some of the Pharisees said,
- 3:48this man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the
- 3:53Sabbath. Others said, But how could an
- 3:57ordinary Sinner do such miraculous signs, said there was
- 4:02a deep division of opinion among them.
- 4:05Then the Pharisees again questioned the man who had been
- 4:08blind and demanded, What's your opinion about this man who
- 4:13healed you? The man replied.
- 4:16I think he must be a prophet. The Jewish leaders still refused
- 4:20to believe the man had been blind and could now see.
- 4:23So they called in his parents. They asked them, it's this your
- 4:27son? Was he born blind?
- 4:30If so, how can he now see? His parents replied.
- 4:35We know this is our son and that he was born blind, but we don't
- 4:40know how he can see or who healed him.
- 4:43Ask him. He is old enough to speak for
- 4:45himself. His parents said this because
- 4:48they were afraid of the Jewish leaders who had announced that
- 4:51anyone saying Jesus was the Messiah would be expelled from
- 4:55the synagogue. That's why they said he is old
- 4:58enough. Ask him.
- 5:00So for the second time they called in the man who had been
- 5:03blind and told him God should get the glory for this, because
- 5:07we know this man Jesus is a Sinner.
- 5:10I don't know whether he is a Sinner, the man replied.
- 5:14But I do know this. I was blind and now I can see.
- 5:20But what did he do? They asked.
- 5:23How did he heal you? Look, The man exclaimed.
- 5:28I told you once, didn't you listen?
- 5:30Why do you want to hear it again?
- 5:33Do you want to become his disciples too?
- 5:36Then they cursed him and said, you are his disciples, but we
- 5:41are disciples of Moses. We know God spoke to Moses, but
- 5:46we don't even know where this man comes from.
- 5:49Why, that's very strange, the man replied.
- 5:53He healed my eyes, and yet you don't know where He comes from.
- 5:58We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but He is ready to
- 6:02hear those who worship Him and do His will.
- 6:05Ever since the world began, no one has been able to open the
- 6:09eyes of someone born blind. If this man were not from God,
- 6:13he couldn't have done it. You were born a total Sinner,
- 6:17they answered. Are you trying to teach us?
- 6:21And they threw him out of the synagogue.
- 6:24When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and
- 6:27asked, Do you believe in the Son of Man?
- 6:31The man answered. Who is he, Sir?
- 6:34I want to believe in him. You have seen him, Jesus said.
- 6:39And he is speaking to you. Yes, Lord, I believe the man
- 6:44said. And he worshipped Jesus.
- 6:48Then Jesus told him, I entered this world to render judgement,
- 6:53to give sight to the blind, and to show those who think they see
- 6:58that they are blind. Some Pharisees who were standing
- 7:02nearby heard him and asked, Are you saying we're blind?
- 7:07If you were blind, you wouldn't be guilty, Jesus replied.
- 7:12But you remain guilty because you claim you can.
- 7:16See now, Jesus, we come before you today, humble servants of
- 7:32you, the living God. And as the old song says, open
- 7:38the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart.
- 7:43I want to see you. So take away our blindness and
- 7:49let our eyes see clearly. You in your glory and Your love
- 7:57so that we would be transformed and that we would know who You
- 8:01are. Continue to transform us from
- 8:04the inside out as Your light penetrates deep into us and we
- 8:10see You and we know You more clearly and we are changed by
- 8:16Your love to be Your servants in this world.
- 8:22Open the eyes of our heart. Lord, we pray all of this in
- 8:26your name, Jesus, Amen.
