- 1:19Web Welcome to love letters from God.
- 2:12Welcome to Love Letters from God.
- 2:16We are reading from the 119th Psalm.
- 2:22I mentioned to you last week that this Psalm is written in
- 2:27little 8 verse segments and there are 22 of these segments.
- 2:34It's a good little way of reading the Bible every day.
- 2:37If you just read one of the segments every day in 22 days
- 2:43you would have read the complete Psalm and I would encourage you
- 2:48to do that. It's just an idea to get you
- 2:51started in reading God's love letter because He wants you to
- 2:56read it. He loves you a great deal, and
- 3:00it's important that you know what He wants you to no.
- 3:05So we're going to start reading from verse 41.
- 3:07That's how far we got last week. And we'll take these little 8
- 3:14segments and we'll make a comment or two after we get
- 3:18through each one. Let your steadfast love come to
- 3:23me, Your salvation according to your promise.
- 3:29Then shall I have an answer for Him who taunts me, For I trust
- 3:34in Your word and take not the word of truth utterly out of my
- 3:40mouth, For my hope is in Your rules.
- 3:44I will keep Your law continually, forever and ever,
- 3:51and I shall walk in a wide place, for I have sought Your
- 3:55precepts. I will also speak of Your
- 3:59testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame, for I
- 4:07find my delight in your commandments, which I love.
- 4:12I will lift up my hands toward your commandments which I love,
- 4:17and I will meditate on your statutes.
- 4:21OK, that's one of these little 8 verse segments.
- 4:26You know, we are reading this in accordance with Psalm 23 where
- 4:36the the David has written thy rod and thy staff.
- 4:42They comfort me, OK, And that and that's the direction for
- 4:48living. And that's how we're getting off
- 4:51on reading this particular Psalm.
- 4:54I wanted to make a comment here. Way back in the 4th century, a
- 4:58long, long time ago, there was a fellow by the name of
- 5:01Athanasius. He lived in Alexandria, Egypt.
- 5:07He made a statement that the Psalms have a unique place in
- 5:13the Bible because most of Scripture speaks to us while the
- 5:20Psalms speak for us. And that's interesting because
- 5:27what is happening here in this 119th Psalm, David is talking
- 5:34about how wonderful this love letter is and how valuable it
- 5:39is. So let's continue reading the
- 5:42next 8 verse segment. Remember your word to your
- 5:48servant in which you have made me hope.
- 5:52This is my comfort, my comfort in my affliction, that your
- 5:58promise gives me life. The insolent utterly deride me,
- 6:05but I do not turn away from your law.
- 6:08When I think of your rules from your old from of old, I take
- 6:13comfort. O Lord, Hot indignation seizes
- 6:18me because of the wicked who forsake your law.
- 6:22Your statutes have been my songs in the House of my sojourning.
- 6:28I remember your name in the night, O Lord, and I keep your
- 6:32law. This blessing has fallen to me
- 6:36that I have kept your precepts. Another one of these 8 segments
- 6:42which like if you would read it, you know every day.
- 6:45That just gives you a start to get going on what the day is all
- 6:51about. There's another little quote I
- 6:54thought that I would give you about Psalms, period.
- 6:57And in a letter from this Athanasius guy to his friend on
- 7:03the interpretation of the Psalms, this is what he wrote.
- 7:09No matter what you ask, whether it be repentance and confession,
- 7:15or help in trouble and temptation or under persecution,
- 7:22whether you've been set free from plots and snares or On the
- 7:27contrary, or sad for any reason, or whether seeing yourself
- 7:32progressing and your enemy cast down, you want to praise and
- 7:37think and bless the Lord. Each of these things the divine
- 7:43Psalms show you how to do, and in every case, the words you
- 7:49want are written down for you, and you can say them on your
- 7:55own. An interesting statement
- 8:00concerning the value of just what we're reading here in
- 8:05Psalms 119. Let's take the next section
- 8:08here. The Lord is my portion.
- 8:14I promise to keep your words. I entreat your favor with all my
- 8:20heart. Be gracious to me according to
- 8:24your promise. When I think on my ways, I turn
- 8:28my feet to your testimonies. I hasten and do not delay to
- 8:35keep your commandments. Though the cords of the wicked
- 8:39ensnare me, I do not forget your law.
- 8:42At midnight I rise to praise you because of your righteous rules.
- 8:49I am a companion of all who fear You, of those who keep your
- 8:54precepts. The earth, O Lord, is full of
- 8:58your steadfast love. Teach me your statutes.
- 9:07God really loves everybody who is listening here and these
- 9:14little segments are positive values to get your day started
- 9:21and thinking about something that's going going to get your
- 9:29day started. Keep your thoughts positive
- 9:32folks, because your thoughts become words.
- 9:38Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior.
- 9:44Keep your behavior positive because your habits become your
- 9:48values. Keep your values positive
- 9:52because your values become your destiny.
- 9:56That was that was a statement that was made by Mahatma Gandhi.
- 10:04Let's take another one of these little 8 verse sections.
- 10:08You have dwelt well with your servant, O Lord, according to
- 10:12your word. Teach me good judgment and
- 10:16knowledge, for I believe in Your commandments.
- 10:21Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your
- 10:26word. You are good and do good.
- 10:32Teach me your statutes. The insolence smear me with
- 10:37lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts.
- 10:43Their heart is unfeeling like fat.
- 10:46But I delight in your law. It's good for me that I was
- 10:52afflicted, that I might learn from your statutes.
- 10:56The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and
- 11:03silver pieces. I'm going to read one more and
- 11:08that'll be all. We'll go for it today.
- 11:12Your hands have made and fashioned me.
- 11:17Give me understanding that I may learn Your commandments.
- 11:22Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice because I have hoped
- 11:28in Your Word. I know, O Lord, that Your rules
- 11:32are righteous, and that in faithfulness You have afflicted
- 11:37me. Let Your steadfast love comfort
- 11:42me according to Your promise to Your servant.
- 11:47Let Your mercy come to me that I may live, for Your law is my
- 11:53delight. Let the insolent be put to shame
- 12:00because they have wronged me with the falsehood.
- 12:03As for me, I will meditate on Your precepts.
- 12:08Let those who fear you turn to me that they may know your
- 12:14testimonies. May my heart be blameless in
- 12:18your statutes, that I may not be put to shame.
- 12:27Read your bibles folks. Read it every day.
- 12:33Going to close with a with a prayer, and that prayer is going
- 12:38to actually be a poem for a song.
- 12:45When peace like a river attended my way.
- 12:52When sorrows like sea billows row.
- 12:57Whatever my lot thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is
- 13:05well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, the
- 13:14trial should come. Let this bless insurance control
- 13:22that Christ hath regarded my helpless estate, and hath shed
- 13:27His own blood for my soul, My sin, oh, the bliss of this
- 13:35glorious thought, my sin, not in part, but the whole is nailed to
- 13:44the cross, and I bear it no more.
- 13:49Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul and Lord, haste
- 13:55the day, and the faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back
- 14:04as a scroll, the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall
- 14:09descend. Even so, it is well with my
- 14:15soul, it is well, it is well, it is well with my soul.
- 14:27Amen. That's it for today.
