January 7 - What Holds First Place · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 7th.
• 0:11
First things first, it's so easy to promise God will give him our
• 0:15
time later. After the notifications slow
• 0:17
down, after the schedule clears, after we've handled what feels
• 0:21
urgent. But most days later never really
• 0:24
comes. We wake up reaching for our
• 0:26
phones, rush into responsibilities, and by the
• 0:29
time we finally slow down, we're running on empty.
• 0:32
And without even meaning to, God gets the leftovers of our
• 0:35
  attention, energy, and affection.
• 0:38
Proverbs chapter 3, verses 9 to 10 gently but firmly challenge
• 0:42
that pattern. Honor the Lord with your wealth
• 0:45
and with the first fruits of all your produce.
• 0:47
Then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will
• 0:50
be bursting with wine. God isn't just talking about
• 0:53
money here. He's talking about priority.
• 0:56
First Fruits mean first place, the first part of your day, the
• 1:00
first say in your decisions, the first claim on your heart.
• 1:03
When God comes first, he promises fullness.
• 1:06
Not an empty kind of busy, but a life filled with purpose and
• 1:09
provision. Psalm 5 adds another layer.
• 1:12
Verse 4 says, for you are not a God who delights in wickedness.
• 1:16
Evil may not dwell with you. God isn't interested in sharing
• 1:20
space with compromise. When we try to keep God on the
• 1:23
side while holding onto habits, mindsets, or choices we know
• 1:26
don't honor Him, we end up crowding Him out.
• 1:29
Putting God first means making room for Him to truly dwell, not
• 1:33
just visit occasionally. Then in Matthew chapter 4, we
• 1:36
see Jesus face temptation in the wilderness.
• 1:38
He's hungry, tired, and alone. Satan offers him a shortcut.
• 1:43
Meet a real need in an easy way. But Jesus responds with
• 1:46
Scripture. Man shall not live by bread
• 1:48
alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
• 1:52
Jesus shows us that real life isn't sustained by what we
• 1:55
consume, achieve, or accumulate. It's sustained by God's Word.
• 2:00
That's our fuel. That's our strength.
• 2:02
When you put God first, you're not losing anything.
• 2:05
You're gaining clarity, stability, and depth.
• 2:07
Your days become anchored instead of scattered.
• 2:10
Your choices become guided instead of reactive.
• 2:13
Life doesn't just get fuller on the outside, it gets richer on
• 2:16
  the inside. Let's pray.
• 2:18
Heavenly Father, I don't want to give you what's leftover.
• 2:21
I want to give You my best. Teach me to put You first in my
• 2:25
time, my thoughts and my choices.
• 2:27
Help me hunger for Your word more than anything else and
• 2:30
remove anything in my life that competes with You.
• 2:33
I trust that when I honor You first, You will fill my life
• 2:35
with true abundance in Jesus name, Amen.
• 2:40

• 2:43

• 3:58
Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 3, verses 9 to
• 4:03
10 World English Bible Honor Yahweh with your substance, with
• 4:08
the first fruits of all your increase.
• 4:10
So your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will
• 4:13
overflow with new wine. Psalm chapter 5 World English
• 4:17
Bible for the chief musician with the flutes, A Psalm by
• 4:20
David. Give ear to my words, Yahweh.
• 4:23
Consider my meditation. Listen to the voice of my cry,
• 4:26
my King and my God, for I pray to you, Yahweh.
• 4:29
In the morning you will hear My voice.
• 4:31
In the morning I will lay My requests before you and will
• 4:34
watch expectantly. For you are not a God who has
• 4:37
pleasure in wickedness. Evil can't live with you.
• 4:40
The arrogant will not stand in your sight.
• 4:43
You hate all workers of iniquity.
• 4:45
You will destroy those who speak lies.
• 4:47
Yahweh abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
• 4:50
But As for me, in the abundance of Your loving kindness, I will
• 4:53
come into Your house. I will bow toward Your holy
• 4:56
temple in reverence of You. Lead me, Yahweh, in Your
• 4:59
righteousness, because of my enemies, make Your way straight
• 5:02
before My face, for there is no faithfulness in their mouth.
• 5:05
Their heart is destruction, their throat is an open tomb.
• 5:09
They flatter with their tongue. Hold them guilty, God, Let them
• 5:13
fall by their own counsels. Thrust them out in the multitude
• 5:16
of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.
• 5:19
But let all those who take refuge and you rejoice, let them
• 5:23
always shout for joy, because you defend them.
• 5:25
Let them also who love Your name, be joyful in you, for You
• 5:28
will bless the righteous Yahweh. You will surround him with
• 5:31
favor, as with a shield. Matthew chapter 4 World English
• 5:35
Bible Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness
• 5:39
to be tempted by the devil. When he had fasted 40 days and
• 5:42
40 nights, he was hungry. Afterward the tempter came and
• 5:46
said to him, If you are the Son of God, command that these
• 5:49
stones become bread. But he answered, It is written,
• 5:53
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
• 5:56
proceeds out of God's mouth. Then the devil took him into the
• 5:59
holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of
• 6:02
the temple, and said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw
• 6:05
yourself down, For it is written, He will command his
• 6:08
angels concerning you, and on their hands they will bear you
• 6:12
up, so that you don't dash your foot against a stone.
• 6:15
Jesus said to him, Again, It is written, You shall not test the
• 6:18
Lord your God. Again the devil took him to an
• 6:21
exceedingly high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of
• 6:24
the world and their glory. He said to him, I will give you
• 6:28
all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me.
• 6:31
Then Jesus said to him, Get behind me, Satan, for it is
• 6:34
written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall
• 6:37
serve him only. Then the devil left him, and
• 6:40
behold, angels came and served him.
• 6:42
Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew
• 6:46
into Galilee, leaving Nazareth. He came and lived in Capernaum,
• 6:50
which is by the sea in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali
• 6:53
that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken through Isaiah
• 6:55
the prophet saying the land of Zebulun and the land of Naftali
• 6:59
toward the sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.
• 7:03
The people who sat in darkness saw a great light.
• 7:06
To those who sat in the region in shadow of death, to them
• 7:08
light has dawned. From that time Jesus began to
• 7:12
preach and to say repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at
• 7:15
hand. Walking by the Sea of Galilee,
• 7:17
he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his
• 7:22
brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
• 7:25
He said to them, Come after me and I will make you fishers for
• 7:28
men. They immediately left their Nets
• 7:31
and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two
• 7:34
other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,
• 7:37
in the boat with Zebedee their father.
• 7:39
Mending their Nets, he called them.
• 7:41
They immediately left the boat and their Father and followed
• 7:44
him. Jesus went about in all Galilee,
• 7:47
teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the
• 7:50
Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among
• 7:53
the people. The report about him went out
• 7:55
into all Syria. They brought to him all who were
• 7:58
sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, possessed
• 8:02
with demons, epileptics, and paralytics, and He healed them.
• 8:06
Great multitudes from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and
• 8:11
from beyond the Jordan followed Him.
