- 0:00warp speed lukey boxing the biggest podcast of the 2025 so far
- 0:06we're jumping into
- 0:07it i'm with my co-host dakota we are on a time crunch we are
- 0:10like a syndicated
- 0:11boxing show this week so we got a lot to talk about and not a
- 0:14lot of time to do it
- 0:15in which is our best way of doing it diego pacheco stephen
- 0:19nelson dakota what are
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: your initial thoughts from this main event fight
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Well, first of all, a fun fight, right?
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: It took a little while,
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: four rounds or so,
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: three and a half rounds for them to both kind of find their rhythm.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: But what a hell of a fight.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: A really,
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: I would say,
- 0:37solid and composed and measured performance from Pacheco up
- 0:42till about the 11th
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: round where Steve Nelson seemed to catch a second wind and make good.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: The back end of the fight very uncomfortable for Diego,
- 0:51which was both impressive on Steve's part and a little bit
- 0:55worrying on Pacheco's part.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: But I think it also just speaks to the quality of the matchup, right?
- 1:01Like Steve Nelson was not just going to go away into the night
- 1:04on this one.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And he made a really impressive final stand.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I think what impresses me so much about Diego,
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: man,
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: is his ability to be measured and controlled.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Because sometimes it's the biggest challenge with young fighters.
- 1:19And they were saying in the telecast,
- 1:21you know,
- 1:21I wish Diego would get more active.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: And in that first three rounds,
- 1:25I just saw a guy really getting a good long look at what he had
- 1:30in front of him.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And I think in the bigger fights that he's going to be in,
- 1:36that ability to control his emotion and control his pace and
- 1:39maintain a game plan,
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: that's going to be crucial moving forward in his career.
- 1:45So I think there's a lot of great things that we saw from Diego
- 1:48in this fight.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And I definitely want to see more Steve Nelson.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of a win-win for both guys in my view.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Diego passes the test with flying colors,
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: and I think Steve Nelson shows what kind of fighter he is.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: My observation is a few things.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: I like Diego.
- 2:07I think he's going to get some backlash because he's not your
- 2:10traditional Mexican fighter.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: There's a level of cerebral fighting from the outside.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: He looks for power shots,
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: but he's more of a guy that's going to outthink you,
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: outwork you,
- 2:20and look for his openings as opposed to a guy who's going to
- 2:24create his openings
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: with brute force power.
- 2:26That I think maybe not to sound like there's certain type of
- 2:31fans that want certain things,
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: but he's coming from East LA.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: I think fans might expect a more aggressive action style.
- 2:38And I think his natural temperament is someone that's going to
- 2:41look at what you got
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: and solve the problems on his own terms.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Big story of the fight that I didn't think got touched on a lot was...
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Cut man is really important.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: And Steven Nelson, when he got cut, that cut never really got fixed.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure if it's the cut man's fault,
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: but it's hard for me to ignore that it wasn't one of those top guys.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: It wasn't Basil.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: It wasn't Stitch.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: It wasn't Aaron Navarro.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: It wasn't Mike Rodriguez.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: It wasn't Russ Amber.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: It was a guy that we haven't consistently seen on television.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Now, was that a cut that you couldn't stop?
- 3:14Or would a different cut man have given him a little bit more
- 3:16to prolong that?
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: I felt like that was also a subplot.
- 3:20It felt like Pacheco's adjustment came when he landed the right
- 3:23hand and cut Nelson open,
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: which looked like some scar tissue.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: And I felt like that's one of those things in these big fights.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: People often overlook who's going to be fixing the cuts.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Right,
- 3:34and even Steve said in the post-fight that the fact that he had
- 3:38blood in his eye
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: was just not a part of the training or a part of the game plan,
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: and it was really a distraction for him.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: I don't want to,
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: I think that's to some extent taking away from Diego,
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: right,
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: because it wasn't a headbutt.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: It was a punch that caused it, so it wasn't some kind of dirty tactic.
- 3:54um it was a really solid right hand yet that's the other thing
- 3:57too bro i think this
- 3:58kid hits really hard and i think as much as steve wanted to get
- 4:02inside there was
- 4:03genuine consequences for trying to come inside and the the the
- 4:08more i watch diego
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: he's getting a sense of his range
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: He's getting a sense of where his best spots are.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: So that check hook on the way inside,
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: shooting the right hand as soon as Steve would try to jab to the body.
- 4:19There's just little things he's doing as you're coming in where
- 4:22he's really
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: starting to utilize his size.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: But again,
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: those last two rounds,
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 4:29can somebody like Christian and Billy or somebody a little more
- 4:32physical that has a
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: little bit more of a tempo to get in his chest,
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: can that style of fighter make him uncomfortable?
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah,
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: to me,
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: there's an interesting paradox here because it's like,
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Diego Pacheco's got a little bit of that Andy Cruz in him.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: People,
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: like,
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: he's taken a lot of hard fights,
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: he's passing the tests,
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: and people are still being critical.
- 4:55Whereas,
- 4:55like,
- 4:56I don't know,
- 4:57there's a lot of guys that aren't taking those.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: you could argue M.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Billy hasn't taken a test as tough as Steven Nelson yet,
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: given his stature.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: And...
- 5:08people are probably in theory higher on him because they're
- 5:12seeing him in more like,
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: What would you say?
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Like beneficial matchups, matchups that may allow him to play.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: I think that with Pacheco,
- 5:21one of the tough things is he's a true competitor and he's
- 5:24taken hard fights early
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: in his career as he's developing.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Sean McCollum was a hard fight.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Steven Nelson's a hard fight.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: And he's kind of figuring out.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: He's a tough fight.
- 5:33Like,
- 5:34you know,
- 5:34Selesky had fought top guys and given him a hard fight every
- 5:37time prior to that.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so he's taking real fights.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And I think that...
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure where the power with him ranks,
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: but I think he's an accurate puncher.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: And there's a certain level of,
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: like,
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: if you're accurate and you land 300 punches,
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: does it matter if you really have one-punch power?
- 5:53Because you're going to be hitting a guy in the...
- 5:55Like,
- 5:55it's the dead-arm rule.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: If you punch a guy in fifth-period math class 20 times,
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: his arm's probably going to feel numb and hurt.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter how hard you're hitting it.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: So I think that, like...
- 6:06as fights he's a he's obviously i think there is a comparison
- 6:10between him and andy
- 6:11cruz although they're different he's a rhythm fighter to me and
- 6:14when pacheco
- 6:14catches a rhythm he really knows and he has an eclectic variety
- 6:19of punches he'll
- 6:19throw the right uppercut he'll throw a straight right he'll
- 6:22throw a left hook it's
- 6:23he's one of those guys where you don't want to get caught
- 6:26guessing the wrong punch
- 6:27because he'll load up on enough shots where you could get
- 6:29highlight reeled and i
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: think that
- 6:32there is a nature in his fights when he catches rhythm,
- 6:35that guys are going to wait.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: So he's going to win rounds,
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: but they're not going to be like tremendously exciting fights because he,
- 6:42I don't know if he's built at what do I do to create action in
- 6:47those rounds.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: He's kind of a counter puncher who's got length,
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: who has a great variety of punches when you enter in.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: But maybe that's the level up is how does he initiate?
- 6:58But he's also I think he's also starting to get a sense of like
- 7:01when you're just
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: starting to tire.
- 7:04like lomachenko has that usik has that bam rodriguez has like
- 7:08other great fighters
- 7:09have that and it looks like he's starting to cultivate that
- 7:12instinct of like he
- 7:14landed the shot he cut steve clearly it made him uncomfortable
- 7:17and he then he just
- 7:18ups his activity level a little bit and then a little bit more
- 7:21and then a little
- 7:22bit more and then by the eighth or ninth round you're like we
- 7:24might be getting into
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: stop this fight territory um so i listen bro
- 7:30this kid's going to be a problem and he's going to be a light
- 7:32heavyweight one day.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: He might be a fucking cruiserweight one day,
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: but I think we're,
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: we're watching the start of something special here.
- 7:40Here's the other thing I want to say before we wrap this up is
- 7:44Steve was not going
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: to go out without a fight.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: So I don't think that Diego got exposed.
- 7:49This is a proud guy from a great camp who was getting yelled at
- 7:52by Bo Mac.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: He was going to go out really good.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: He's not just like a heart and balls guy.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: He's a good fighter, you know?
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: To me, the big X factor here was age.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Diego,
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: when the cut happened,
- 8:05fought like a younger man who had a little bit more youth on
- 8:08his side and could let
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: his hands go a little bit more.
- 8:11And Steve,
- 8:12being an older guy,
- 8:13had to be more judicious with his punch output.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: And with the cut, now things weren't going his way, right?
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't...
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: I'm seeing some reactions where people are like,
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: okay,
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Diego got exposed in those last rounds.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I think you just take a hard fight and you have a guy...
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: they kind of took turns in this fight.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: I thought Steve won the early rounds.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: Diego took over the mid rounds.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: And then when Steve felt Diego might be fading,
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: he really ramped up and kind of took over the final rounds.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: I think it was just a fight.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: I also don't think he won the 12th.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, the 12th was a swing.
- 8:51Like I thought that he won at least three,
- 8:53probably the first four rounds on my card.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Um,
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: And then he won the 11th.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: I thought it was like a four or five round Steve Nelson fight,
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: but Diego clearly won seven or eight rounds.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 9:07I think that I thought the scorecards were fair because I
- 9:11actually I think I had a
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: two two through the first four and then I gave Steve the 11th.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: So I think anywhere from nine three to seven five on that is is fair.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, that's an accurate depiction of reality.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Roger Morales in the chat said, what's the conversation about?
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: We were talking about Diego Pacheco versus Steven Nelson.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Are we doing Inouye this week?
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: I'm just realizing.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're going to touch on Inouye in a second.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: I actually forgot Inouye Fox.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: You didn't even put it in the title, Bob.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: You know he brings the heat.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we got to reshape the title.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Let's just before... You muted yourself, Chief.
- 9:52guy abraham gonzalez in the in the chat says what's up fellas
- 9:55what's up abe um i
- 9:59guess berlanga called out pacheco after the fight that's a good
- 10:02fight hope it
- 10:03happens yeah that's a great fight i think the one i really want
- 10:06to see though is in
- 10:07billy i want to see diego not just because of the last two
- 10:11rounds but we just
- 10:13haven't seen him in with a guy that relentless i think it's a
- 10:15fight he wins but i
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: think that
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: That's sort of a winner deserves a big fight kind of fight.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: And I think that seeing him struggle a little in those last two rounds,
- 10:26I think it would just be interesting to watch him have to fight
- 10:30somebody with that relentless,
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: bordering on reckless type of aggression.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: So Andy Cruz, Omar Salcedo, Andy Cruz.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: I feel like this is a guy who is fighting like a 20 fight veteran yet.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: People are acting like he sucks.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: There's like a,
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: a lot of people are like,
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Oh my God,
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: there are a lot of dissenting opinions on boxing,
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Twitter and podcasters who are like,
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: man,
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: he's getting hurt in fights.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Oh my God.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: And it's like,
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: To me,
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: he's one of the most polished lightweights in five fights,
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: like what he's doing so quickly.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, Salcedo came to win.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: And if this went two more rounds,
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: which I also want to give Omar the benefit of the doubt,
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: I think he sold out in that last round trying to win the fight.
- 11:16So when he was getting pushed back,
- 11:18he had gassed himself out trying to give it his all.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: So I don't think he would get stopped if it was an 11 or 12 round fight.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: But what he did in this fight, Cruz,
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: This is a sensational fighter.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: This is a generational-type talent.
- 11:31The only downside to Cruz is he has a little bit of that Tony
- 11:35Harrison in him.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: He loses focus in fights,
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: and I'm worried that at the highest level,
- 11:39he might be the guy that loses to the guy because he has a
- 11:42little bit of that loss
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: of concentration that might cost him against those top,
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: top guys.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: See, the way I kind of interpreted it, that is interesting.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: the Tony Harrison comparison.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I think the,
- 11:56the compare what the way I interpreted this fight was when you
- 11:59watch Andy Cruz,
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: man,
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: you see it all,
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: you see the timing,
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: you see the speed,
- 12:03You see the jab,
- 12:04like Abe is saying,
- 12:05the little half a step back is beautiful.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: You see all the things.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: But I feel like in moments now,
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: as he's trained more with Bozy,
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: as he's trying to develop more of this boxer puncher style,
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: I think he takes a fight that could be an easy fight for him,
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: and he makes it a little tougher.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Now, that's not to say anything bad about Salcido.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: He's a good fighter.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: He earned the fight.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: And the fact that,
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 12:31Cruz is fighting somebody like that at this point in his career
- 12:34says everything
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: about him.
- 12:35But he's a guy with the skill set,
- 12:38you know,
- 12:38to make fights like that a 10-0 sweep.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: And I think that he's taking shots he doesn't need to take necessarily.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:48in the name of trying to be more entertaining and trying to
- 12:51seek action and knockouts.
- 12:54And I think that in some ways he could find himself in more
- 12:58trouble than he needs
- 12:59to be if he were to just use his skills and kind of take those
- 13:05moments where guys
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: overextend themselves and make them really pay.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 13:09that middle part of the fight where he's just standing in the
- 13:11pocket trading,
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: it's entertaining.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: And I love that he wants to get after it like that.
- 13:17but I don't know if that's going to serve him as he continues
- 13:20to move up.
- 13:22I think that when he catches rhythm,
- 13:23he's one of the hardest fighters to fight.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Like if he finds his rhythm in a fight, he's going to beat you up.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: He's a nightmare.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: I honestly would say he's a top five rhythm guy right now.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: If he catches rhythm, you're in trouble.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: I see what you're saying.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: I think this modern era,
- 13:38Cuba are tired of American and world fight fans saying Cubans
- 13:42are boring and run.
- 13:44And it seems like Andy's come into the pros with a chip on his
- 13:46shoulder to not be
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: For people to not say, oh, look at this boring back foot guy.
- 13:52Like,
- 13:52that's my interpretation of what he's doing is he heard what
- 13:55all the other Cubans.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: It's kind of like Morrell, right?
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Morrell, I think, can box on the back foot.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: But there's an attitude of I'm going to knock people out.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I think this modern Cuban,
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Inglacius,
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: a lot of these guys,
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: it seems like there's a chip on the shoulder.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: And it might be from people perceiving Cuban boxers as boring.
- 14:15And kudos to him again for trying to integrate some of that
- 14:19Philly grit in with the
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: clean Cuban boxing.
- 14:23I just think about seeing his pro debut against Burgos and
- 14:27seeing how he used his
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: footwork and how he just made a really competent pro look kind of lost.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: And I feel like him standing in the pocket with a guy like Salcedo
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: It's impressive that he can catch and shoot and roll,
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: but again,
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: I just think he's putting himself in unnecessary risk for what he brings.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: I know it wouldn't happen,
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: says Abe,
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: but Cruz versus Loma,
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: even an older Loma,
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: would be something special.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Man, I would love to see that fight.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: I just want to know what's going on with Lomachenko.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: He's one of the greats of this time,
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: and I just hope he's healthy enough to compete,
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: and if he's not,
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: he's got nothing left to prove.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Um, you got your Ernesto Tito Mercado.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: He gave us kind of,
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: uh,
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: you always love these,
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: the potty mouth,
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: uh,
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: borderline,
- 15:18hilarious post fight where he calls out Shakur and Keyshawn
- 15:22core stands up.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: And then he tells him to shut up.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Um,
- 15:26I don't know if it was comedy or unintentional comedy,
- 15:29but it was something.
- 15:30Knocks out Pedraza,
- 15:31who just looked really old all fight week,
- 15:33if we're being honest.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: When I saw him at the press conference, he looked like an older fighter.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: In the ring,
- 15:38it was pretty clear that he wasn't the same guy that you and me
- 15:42glorified in the
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: preview show.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: He's just an older guy, and he got hit with a punch and knocked out.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Mercado is a problem.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: What is your initial impression of Mercado?
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: I like how selective he is.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I like the way he picks his shots.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: He doesn't really waste a whole lot.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: And when you got a guy like Pedraza,
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: even though he's older,
- 16:01he's still got that up and down kind of herky jerky rhythm that
- 16:04can be difficult to time.
- 16:06And he's just got the composure and the sharpness,
- 16:09you know,
- 16:09to nullify it.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: I hope Pedraza thinks about maybe wrapping it up now.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: He's had a hell of a career and he's fought a who's who of his time.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: And until these last two fights, he was always a world class guy.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: And you just you hate to see a guy,
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: become an opponent who was once a top,
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: at least top six or seven guy in his weight.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: It's just it's unfortunate, I think.
- 16:37uh abe's saying tito mercado versus abril matisse i like that
- 16:41matchup that's a good
- 16:42fight for me um he stopped he stopped pedraza two rounds before
- 16:48queshawn davis does
- 16:49that mean anything to you not really i kind of felt like he was
- 16:53beating pedraza up
- 16:54not as much as queshawn was right i felt like that fight was a
- 16:57real beat down this
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: was a little bit more selective um but
- 17:04The body shots he's landing,
- 17:05he just has a really crisp way of delivering what he does.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Maybe somebody with a higher work rate can give him more problems,
- 17:13but they're going to have to be really special to get past that
- 17:16speed and that power.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Okay, just the other quick recaps.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Dakota will touch on whatever he wants.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Harley Madero's got a knockout win.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Saquon Moza's got a win.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Nishant Dev looked sensational.
- 17:29He has a grudge match with Omari Jones from the Amateurs that
- 17:33seems inevitable.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: And also Rubicola versus Mercado,
- 17:38Israel Mercado fought to a draw in kind of like a good run at
- 17:42you and fight each
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: other type opener bout.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Anything stand out to you?
- 17:47Well,
- 17:47you were you were hyping up Zaquon Moses a little bit before
- 17:50the fight,
- 17:51right?
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I hyped up all three of those guys.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's really something.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Of course, there's only so much you could see off of one round.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I really like Harley Madero.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: I think my only issue right now when I'm watching him is how...
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: how much effort it looks like he's putting into every shot.
- 18:09I'd like to see him get a little more flow to his game because
- 18:12it looks like he's
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: just huffing and puffing because everything's like that one speed,
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: throw it as hard as you can thing.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: But that comes kind of just with development, right?
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it does.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Let's go to Nao in a way.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: He fought Yejun Kim.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: It was such an eventful fight that I even forgot it happened.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: It happened on Thursday, and I didn't even put it in the show notes.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: What were your thoughts on this?
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, listen, bro.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: He tried to keep the date.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: You can't hate on the man for trying to keep the date.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: The opponent was clearly not on his level, but he showed up.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: you know, mentally there to compete.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: You could see it.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: He was letting his hands go.
- 18:57I mean,
- 18:58I'm glad that one of the best fighters in the world got to stay busy.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: I guess it's better than him not staying busy.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Well,
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: I think that like I was listening to your interview with Pullman,
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: John Pullman,
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: good guy.
- 19:10Um,
- 19:10listen to our slip and weave podcast,
- 19:12really interesting podcast show.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Um, and, uh,
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: What's it called?
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: So what happened to me with Inouye is dating back to like 2016,
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: 2017,
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Inouye's not just been like passing tests.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: He's been like ace in the exam.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: He's fighting like the best guys,
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: knocking them out in one or two rounds or completely dominating them.
- 19:33And really for like his last three fights has been the first
- 19:37time in his career
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: where he's not fighting like the top players.
- 19:40the top tier guys outside of the donair fight and really we
- 19:44started to see like
- 19:45some some vulnerabilities you know tj tohoney pushed him back
- 19:49neary dropped him
- 19:50this fight it just was an uninteresting match so nary i just
- 19:55i'll let you continue
- 19:56but nary to me was like the number two guy so it's tough for me
- 19:59to be like mad that
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: something bad happened like you just took a you know
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: No, I get it.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: And that's kind of been Inouye's career, right?
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: But I think that up until that Neri fight,
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: you could say he was fighting guys that were largely avoided.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: or largely viewed as the best guy.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: He went out of his way to fight Stephen Fulton.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: People didn't think that the politics of the sport could allow it.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: He fought guys like Emmanuel Rodriguez,
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Jamie McDonald,
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: when I think most guys would be like,
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: let's build to this.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: He just jumps in and stops them quickly.
- 20:33So I think that he's kind of graded on an in-away curve where
- 20:37people might be a
- 20:37little critical of this recent run just because he set a
- 20:41standard that's pretty...
- 20:43unfathomable to sustain like he's he's been a sensational
- 20:47fighter he's in his 30s
- 20:49he's a lower weight guy and you know i think that people
- 20:53haven't really looked at
- 20:54him as like a traditional fighter like how long can this fun
- 20:57run of this lower
- 20:59weight guy continue as opposed to what's a realistic trajectory
- 21:03for a fighter to
- 21:04have well and to be fair he was going to fight sam goodman
- 21:09right like two different
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: times he's tried to make a fight with sam goodman
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: They couldn't keep it together with that cut.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know what they were thinking,
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: having him sparring with the cut that close to the fight.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: I know you got to keep your timing and everything,
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: but it just seems like,
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: you only got put so much time.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Why would you take that risk?
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: You know, what do I know?
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: But at the end of the day, that was the fight he was going to have.
- 21:32And that fight would have been more in line with a traditional
- 21:35in a way opponent.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: You know, this was a plan B.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: According to Lance Pugmire,
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: great source of boxing scene,
- 21:42it seems like David Picasso earlier last year was reported as a
- 21:45potential opponent.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: it's not like a sexy,
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: sexy opponent,
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: but the the outlined boxing Twitter plan,
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: which,
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: boxing Twitter is always right that I saw someone say.
- 21:57is potentially like a or allegedly picasso then mj and then
- 22:02nick ball if that
- 22:03really happens that is such a badass run of fights and if in a
- 22:08way does that i
- 22:09don't understand how anyone even could be critical of in a way
- 22:13because like those
- 22:14are some of the best fights to be made do you think goodman's
- 22:17opportunity is sort
- 22:18of come and gone here do you think just having this date come
- 22:21and go twice and him
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: not being able to show up on the night just sort of
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: it's dead in the water.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: I think he's got it.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: I think that if Goodman wants the opportunity, he's got to fight MJ.
- 22:33I think he's got to take that MJ fight or he's got to take,
- 22:35move up and fight Nick ball.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: I think that Goodman.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: So Abe said, you know, Abe had two comments.
- 22:42Remember Keyshawn Drain,
- 22:43Pedraza to 135,
- 22:45which he hadn't been to in like three years.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Goodman petitioned the WBO to keep his mandatory position.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: So we will see how the politics of boxing play out.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: But to me personally, I feel like,
- 22:55When guys can't make it to the big dance,
- 22:58I think people are ready to move on.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: And the fact that they tried to make the fight twice,
- 23:02the fact that Inouye only fought two times last year and he
- 23:05traditionally likes to
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: keep busy.
- 23:06I think it's going to be hard to convince the Inouye team to
- 23:10fight Goodman because
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: it's just,
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: it's a tough guy.
- 23:13Like Yee-Joon Kim might not have been a sexy opponent,
- 23:17but he made it to the dance.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: And sometimes these guys that value activity, like remember Golovkin?
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Golovkin loved fighting guys that make it to the dance.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: So me personally,
- 23:30I think Goodman's kind of lost his opportunity unless a lot of
- 23:34things fall apart.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: It's unfortunate.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Sometimes that's the luck of the draw.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: And again,
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: I think having a sparring session that close to the fight,
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: that close to getting that cut,
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: that seems a little crazy to me.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's move over to Jin Sasaki.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: What were your thoughts of Jin Sasaki?
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: He's fun, bro.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: He's entirely hittable at any time.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: And when I'm watching him, he's got the explosiveness.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: He's really aggressive.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: He's coming forward.
- 24:06There was times where I'm like,
- 24:07it's almost like he's making the choice not to do defense.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Because sometimes you'd see him move his upper body and whatever.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, no, his default is to not do defense at all.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: And then sometimes he makes the choice to do defense on occasion.
- 24:22and he'll move his upper body and he'll move his head and he'll
- 24:25block shots.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: But for the most part, he's throwing and he's there to be hit.
- 24:30So as fun as that is,
- 24:31who knows how long that ride can last,
- 24:34but he's a good time for sure.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: I enjoy watching him.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's weird.
- 24:38Someone on Twitter said he can both look sensational and bad in
- 24:43the same round.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: And I wish I could quote who it was,
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: but that was like a great way of summing him up is like he looks like a
- 24:50generational talent and then he looks kind of like a gatekeeper
- 24:53and it'll be 30
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: seconds apart.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: I can't remember a fighter.
- 24:57He kind of reminds me of the fighters from the early 2010s that
- 25:01would come from
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Japan that would like occupy just below the main event.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: those,
- 25:07those number one contender fights where it was like kind of a
- 25:10samurai spirit,
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: not a lot of defense.
- 25:12They were just known for taking big shots like Friday night
- 25:15fight level fighters.
- 25:17Sometimes I know Brandon Figueroa fought a guy and had a
- 25:20sensational performance.
- 25:22He kind of seems like he's more in that mold than the in a way
- 25:24in Junto Nakatani.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:27These,
- 25:28I think Yoshihiro Kama guy was the comparison we were making
- 25:31the other day.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: And I think that's a pretty fair one.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: He may be slightly more measured and slightly more talented,
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: but you got to be really durable to do what Kamagai did.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: So we'll see kind of where he falls.
- 25:48Yeah,
- 25:48okay,
- 25:49so moving on to our next fight,
- 25:51we will just quickly glance over.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Dalton Smith gets a win.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Really looked good in it.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: The guy that he was fighting, I thought, had a chance.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: When he took the first punch, it was clear he didn't have a chance.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: Just to touch on this card, Kona Walker had a great comeback win.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Lost basically every round, knocks out Harry Scroff.
- 26:15and ellie scotney who's probably one of the best women's boxers
- 26:18that no one really
- 26:19talks about after the fight called out sky nicholson if she
- 26:23can't get other bouts
- 26:25to unify her belt which i really like because she's someone
- 26:28that i think just kind
- 26:29of isn't catching on the way she should so to go after a name
- 26:33that's kind of
- 26:33getting a lot of hype is a good way to get yourself out there
- 26:37those are like the
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: three notable fights that i saw on that card
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: Listen, bro, I've been on Dalton Smith.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: You know how I feel about him.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: I think he's a hell of a fighter.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: He ain't perfect,
- 26:48but I think that we're watching somebody who's really
- 26:50developing into a world-class pro.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: I don't understand the inactivity and the,
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: the not really having fought since the Zepeda win,
- 26:59which you would think would kind of catapult him to a certain
- 27:02position that he just
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: hasn't taken.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: But I think it's obvious that he's at this point,
- 27:08essentially he's a finished product and it's a put up or shut
- 27:11up kind of moment.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Also, like you can tell he's a true professional.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: You look at the body,
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: you look at the size of the weight class,
- 27:18you know that he's able to at least physically compete with
- 27:21those top names.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: So I'm just kind of thinking like it's about time he steps up.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: It really feels like they're chasing the Adam Azim fight.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: Azim fights this week in the UK.
- 27:32But I mean,
- 27:33I hate when guys become inactive if they're just chasing one guy.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: So I want him to chase like the winner of Catterall Barbosa.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: that's more,
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 27:43those are the types of fights I think he needs to be in for the
- 27:48broader boxing
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: public outside of the UK to kind of get excited about him,
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: which was what I thought the Zapata fight was.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Our guy, Najee Lopez, stopped letting... Real quick, though.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Real quick, though.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: I want to run this by you.
- 28:01I really like Ellie Scottney,
- 28:02but how do you think she's closing the distance on Sky?
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: Because I see everybody.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: She's shorter.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Everybody's kind of coming to her.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: we haven't really seen her have to,
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: it just seems like a tough style matchup as great as I think she is.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: Well,
- 28:15I think it's that I was thinking about that this morning in my
- 28:17work office,
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: we call it the cold room.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Um,
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: There's going to be a lot of difficulties for Ellie in that fight,
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: and I don't know how she handles that,
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: right?
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Because Skye's kind of like the Troy Isley,
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: Diego Pacheco's,
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: where when she catches rhythm,
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: she can put her car on 65,
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: hit cruise control,
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: and then it's just tough,
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: right?
- 28:43But I think Ellie presents Skye with problems that she hasn't
- 28:48faced before,
- 28:49as a pro just yet where there's foot feints she gets off the
- 28:54line well she's going
- 28:55to return punches i think she's not going to keep her hands in
- 28:58her pocket but she's
- 29:00also fundamentally sound so i think there's a level of punch
- 29:02volume and setting
- 29:05traps that sky hasn't had to fully face just yet with her
- 29:09current level of
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: opposition and
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: But I think that the big factor in that fight for me going in is size.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Sky is going to be a lot naturally bigger.
- 29:18And Ellie's got to fight basically a perfect fight to come out victorious.
- 29:24And I think Sky has a big margin of error and still could win
- 29:27based on the size difference.
- 29:30yeah i just i i think she she'll it'll be a hell of a fight i
- 29:34really hope that it
- 29:34happens i just see when i'm watching her i'm like man she's
- 29:38fucking talented but i
- 29:39just don't know how she's gonna find her spots obviously that's
- 29:43her her job to
- 29:43figure that out i also think that there's like amongst women
- 29:48who are very good
- 29:49there's a there's a sentiment i kind of pick up and maybe i'm
- 29:53wrong that sky's
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: beatable
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: I think Ellie might look at Sky and be like,
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: okay,
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: in the amateurs,
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: she didn't achieve as much as me,
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: hypothetically,
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: or something.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: There might be some... And it might not even be rational.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: It might be that fighter thing.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: But I get the sense that she's looking at Sky as someone like...
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: If I'm going to roll the dice and move up and wait,
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: this is someone where I can get my name out there.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: I can get a bigger fight.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: And I think that she's,
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: a little vulnerable now,
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: whether that's right or wrong,
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: she'll find out when she gets the fight.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: But I think it's a calculated risk on her part.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: And I also think that she believes that she's undervalued,
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: that people aren't assessing how good she is.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: So I think a little bit of it is like chip on the shoulder.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm really good.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: I'm a world champion.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: No one ever brings up my name.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: And here's someone out here that, you know, is a world champion.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Everyone brings up her name.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: She gets broadcasting jobs and all this stuff.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: I think there's a little bit of a chip on a shoulder.
- 30:51I'll go up there and give her a fight and maybe you'll finally
- 30:53talk about me.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Well, I hope they make it happen.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, now let's go over to our guy Najee Lopez.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: He knocked out Lennon Castillo.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: What were your thoughts?
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's a great performance.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: Clearly,
- 31:07I think since the – it's hard to not think about the Callum
- 31:10Smith fight when you
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: think about Lennon Castillo,
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: right?
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: Like that's one of the most vicious knockouts I've ever seen.
- 31:16He got clipped again in kind of the same way where you could
- 31:19see like he just got
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: separated from his nervous system for a second.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: The ref lets it continue.
- 31:24And then it's like as Castillo's throwing a combination back,
- 31:28that's when he stops the fight.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: And I couldn't tell if it was the corner or the ref.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: It just seemed like a really weird time to stop the fight.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: But you got to love...
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: the measured performance by Najee Lopez,
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: keeping it,
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: with that left-hand jab and the check hook and the shots to the body.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: It was just a really solid performance.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: He's super talented, man.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's no doubt about it.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: He's the real deal.
- 31:54Whether he's still obviously developing to some extent and
- 31:57whether he's going to be
- 31:58destructive enough to hang with the Morels and the Benavidezes
- 32:02and the B-Vols and
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: the Better Bs,
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: But we're already talking.
- 32:06In my mind,
- 32:06I'm already thinking about him in that way because of what he
- 32:09brings to the table.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think he's right up there with guys like Diego Pacheco.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: He's taken a lot of hard fights.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: He's developing great.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: I think he's a guy.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Now,
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: when you're asking a young man,
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: a young fighter who doesn't have a ton of fights,
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: how he does against better,
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: even Bivel,
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: that's a big ask.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: But I think that he's the next era of this division.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: So does he fight those guys?
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: Maybe he fights Bivel in two to three years.
- 32:37But I think this is a guy that's going to turn into one of the
- 32:40bigger fighters in the division.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: And he has a lot of great attributes.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: And I like his temperament.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: He has a mean guy temperament.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe Manuel Gallegos.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: That could be a fun fight.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: He's coming off the win over Khalil Coe.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: I think that could be a really interesting matchup for him.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: if you want to get really ambitious,
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: I would love to see him in with the winner of Boatsy and Callum Smith.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: I think that would be a tremendous fight.
- 33:03But think about how good his performance was for us to even
- 33:06entertain these type of
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: level of fights.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm saying, bro.
- 33:09Like,
- 33:10you know,
- 33:10I'm already thinking about him against the other elite guys.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Najee's great.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: What did you think of Stanley Wright upsetting Jeremiah Milton?
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: I missed that one, my brother.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: You're going to have to take the lead on that one.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: We love when I'm doing show notes and I'm hoping that you'll take that.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: But what happened was Stanley Wright took a fight on eight days notice.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: He punched Jeremiah Milton, dropped him in the first round.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: Milton, a guy that I filmed, this is crazy to me.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Somehow six years ago,
- 33:42I did a documentary in Oakland on Jeremiah Milton when he was
- 33:44training for the
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Olympic trials five and a half years ago.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: You can watch that somewhere.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure where it is anymore.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: But Jeremiah Milton was training in the gym.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Been inactive for about two years now.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: He hasn't fought a year and a half.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: Really good guy.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Came in second to Antonio Morales at the Olympic trials.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: Lost to Torres.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Kind of always viewed as like a hidden gem.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: One of the best interviews in boxing.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: New coach in the corner and wasn't familiar with the coach.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: He started with Bones Adams, was around Ole Miss Pimpleton.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Now he's got another coach.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: So there's been a lot of changes with Jeremiah.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Takes on Stanley Wright.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Stanley Wright is just a big puncher who, you know, took the fight.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: He had a willingness to throw punches.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: And what I saw with Jeremiah was something I didn't like seeing.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: it looked like he mentally wasn't engaged in the fight.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: He wasn't letting his hands go.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: He was too, too concerned holding.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: And I said this in my newsletter podcast that sometimes guys,
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: he sparred all the top guys,
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: Joshua and all that.
- 34:48And sometimes when guys start spying all the top guys,
- 34:51they pick up bad habits.
- 34:52And one bad habit I've seen guys pick up is thinking holding is
- 34:56elite level boxing work.
- 34:58when the elite guys are holding because they want to break
- 35:01because they're pushing themselves.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: So they get this guy in and they're holding.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: And then the, the guy who's fighting the big name guy starts holding and,
- 35:09And he gets the better because he's pushing him around because
- 35:12that guy's just kind
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: of going limp.
- 35:14And he's just letting this guy do all the work because he has
- 35:16to go 10,
- 35:1712 rounds.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: Maybe that guy's going six rounds.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: And I was a little concerned that Jeremiah had a tendency.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: One of his adjustments was clinch after getting hit.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: And he didn't really seem to have an identity in this fight.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: So he was jabbing, but he couldn't really keep the range.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: He didn't want to initiate.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: And I think that's the power of Stanley Wright.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: He wanted Stanley to initiate so he could counterpunch,
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: but when Stanley was getting off,
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: he kind of would just pull straight back or he'd move.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: So Jeremiah just found himself in a really hard fight,
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: living a nightmare,
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: and he ended up losing a fight to a late replacement.
- 35:47He had had three opponents in the last two and a half weeks,
- 35:53hard to match a heavyweight,
- 35:55right?
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Ends up losing to Stanley Wright.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Stanley Wright,
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: to me,
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: probably will go on to fight a guy like Antonio Morales,
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: who's fighting on a pro box TV card.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: That's a banger of a fight.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, he's coming back on pro box TV card in Jamestown next month.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: But to me, it was a very disappointing fight for Jeremiah.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: But if Jeremiah was having troubles getting fights,
- 36:19this type of bad performance is a great performance to get your
- 36:21phone to bring.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: Because now I think a lot of guys are going to be calling him asking.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: So he's just always got to do is get in the gym, work hard.
- 36:29But now the phone's going to ring because it was just it was a
- 36:32nightmare of a
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: performance for a very talented fighter.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: the couple of times I've seen him as talented as I think he is,
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: his work rates never been real high.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: And my just feeling like he's not as engaged or maybe passionate.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure what the right word is, but.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: you know, in a more 50-50 type fight, that'll really show up.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: Well, he's got stuff to work on now.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: The speed round continues.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: I was at the Golden Boy...
- 36:59thursday night card in los angeles uh eric priest won it was
- 37:05kind of a unanimous
- 37:06decision level up fight jordan pantheon had a hard fight but to
- 37:10me the star of the
- 37:10show was grant flores yes the guy he fought had been stopped in
- 37:14the first round by
- 37:15his previous opponent but the way the fans interacted with him
- 37:18and the way he
- 37:18overwhelmed his opponent to me grant flores was the story of
- 37:22the night and i think
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: he's trending and
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, quote me on this.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: Like a Ryan Garcia,
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: like a Virgil Ortiz,
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: like a Floyd Schofield,
- 37:30a Golden Boy organic star who should be headlining cards in the
- 37:35next year or two on
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: this smaller scene and then leveling up.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: Didn't get to see this one, unfortunately, but glad you were there, bro.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: I was there, so that's that.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Let's go into David Benavidez, David Murrell.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Let's preview this fight.
- 37:51such a crazy two weekends we got we go from nothing to
- 37:54everything right um but
- 37:56listen bro i was talking about this with john pullman the other
- 37:59day like in my mind
- 38:01this is kind of the best america-based fight signed right now
- 38:08and the less of those
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: we get the more i come to appreciate ones like this um
- 38:15It just feels like American boxing has gotten more and more
- 38:20complicated in terms of
- 38:21the business and the negotiations and the fan base is becoming
- 38:25smaller and more diehard.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: And it's just a weird combination of things.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: And guys like David,
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: guys like Bam Rodriguez,
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: guys like Diego Pacheco,
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: young fighters that really want to take the tough fights,
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: at least guys in terms of guys from the States,
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: those are the guys moving it forward right now.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: And, um,
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: It's a hell of a fight.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: It's a real 50 50 fight.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: I have to lean Benavidez just because of the massive experience gap.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: But man, these are the these.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: And this could have been a fight.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: if it was two American guys,
- 38:59they would have sit and putzed around and fucking talked on the
- 39:03Internet for a year
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: and a half.
- 39:05And there would have been memes and there would have been
- 39:07bullshit and content.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: And these two guys just made a fight.
- 39:11And more and more,
- 39:12I think that the international boxing audience has a real
- 39:17hunger for that.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: And we're kind of getting left behind.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: I agree with that.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: I just want to stylistically break this down.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: To me, I don't like the temperament and morale going into this fight.
- 39:31He seems a little too casual and slightly arrogant leading into
- 39:34this fight,
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: like skills alone are going to beat Benavidez.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: Benavidez is one of these guys where he has a will along with a skill.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: So you're not just fighting his talent,
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: which I think Benavidez is very underrated with his talent.
- 39:46You're fighting a demeanor and approach of someone that wants
- 39:49to inflict a lot of damage on you.
- 39:51And the difference between the two I've seen in the fight
- 39:54preview videos so far is
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: Benavidez really wants to hurt Morell.
- 39:58Morell believes he's going to outclass and embarrass Benavidez
- 40:03with his traditional
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: boxing skills.
- 40:06And I think that that comes from experience possibly is that
- 40:12Benavidez knows maybe
- 40:13SPEAKER_01: the difficulties of a 50-50 fight.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: And he's going into like a Hagler type mindset where I think Morell
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: I don't want to say he's arrogant,
- 40:23but there's a level of overconfidence and maybe it's a good overconfidence,
- 40:27but I'm a little concerned that he might be a little
- 40:29overconfident that what he's
- 40:31going to do is going to work because I think both guys are
- 40:33going to have moments in
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: this fight.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: And that's why I like you.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: I lean towards Benavidez because experience is something you can't teach.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: And Benavidez is a guy.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: And then I also think Benavidez is a guy.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: where you have to have a demeanor of a mean mofo.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: You've got to be a tough,
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: mean dude because Benavidez is very,
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: very mentally strong,
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: a very tough guy.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: And his intentions are not to win this fight.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: His intentions are to break down and beat up David Murrell on this fight.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: He's saying that he's going to retire David Murrell.
- 41:07The fact that Murrell is not answering back leaves me with some
- 41:10questions about
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: Murrell's intentions because he's
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: And I also feel like Benavidez in the buildup, right?
- 41:17You don't watch the press conferences and the media workouts,
- 41:19but they did a media workout.
- 41:21morale's never been like a push you guy get in your face guy
- 41:25and the build up to
- 41:25this he's doing maybe the cell of fight he throws a belt at
- 41:28benavidez benavidez is
- 41:30the same guy that he's been at for all these other fights
- 41:33there's some difference
- 41:34with morale and it's hard for me to not see that as some
- 41:37pre-fight jitters you know
- 41:39when guys are that different for a big fight so for me i think
- 41:43this is going to be
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: a benavidez fight but
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: they're both going to have their moments, man.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: And this is going to be one of those real fights that's very special.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: And hopefully they both leave with a lot of respect.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, Morel's kind of jumping into the deep end here.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: When you look at the,
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: that he's taken good opponents as far as like,
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: being a prospect,
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: but he's,
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: he doesn't have a lot of fights.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: This is a gigantic step up.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: And on some level, I think like,
- 42:13like you said,
- 42:13him,
- 42:14him kind of acting out of pocket or acting out of character.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: I think that that's what,
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 42:20he's jumping into the deep end and he sees a guy who comes with
- 42:22a lot of intensity
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: to every single event.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: And I think he's just trying to match that, but that may not serve him.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: It kind of plays into what Benavidez wants.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: He wants you to fight emotional.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: He wants you to get out of character.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: And for the most part, he's able to get guys to do that, right?
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: Like Boo Boo came out and tried to brawl.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 42:41Caleb Plant halfway through the fight was kind of forced into a
- 42:45fight that he
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: really didn't want to be in.
- 42:47You know,
- 42:48I think that he's been successful in getting guys to do that in
- 42:51the past.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: Okay,
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: so Champy said,
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: even before the fight,
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: Morel has been talking a lot of crap about Benavidez the past two years.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: He's been holding that in and using his motivation.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: That's all fine and good,
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: but when you see the guy,
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Benavidez,
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: it's fine to talk crap about him to get a fight.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: This is a scary dude.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Benavidez is one of the scariest punchers in all of boxing.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Remember,
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: weren't we on together,
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: or was it me and Felix,
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: where I was like,
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: are you going to get the Porky Medina,
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: the eight-punch combo,
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: and he smiled and he'd be weak.
- 43:21this is not a quote-unquote fighter this is a tough man who is
- 43:24trained to fight and
- 43:27he is not a punk and i'm not saying morel's a punk i'm just
- 43:30saying i don't know he
- 43:31may not entirely know what he's getting in there with them do
- 43:34you get what i'm
- 43:35saying because it's like with benavidez i feel like he's a very
- 43:38very sincere guy
- 43:40he's very very sincere but when you disrespect him he holds
- 43:44that in and he's very
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: angry in the gym and he's trying to hurt you and
- 43:49Like you bring up Demetrius Andrade and Caleb Plant,
- 43:53they're both very talented boxers.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Boxing alone is not going to beat Benavidez.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: It just isn't.
- 44:00You're not going to have the energy to keep this guy off you
- 44:02for 12 rounds.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: You have to selectively pick shots.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: And that's where my concern with Morrell is.
- 44:09How does Morrell do when he has to sit in the pocket with this
- 44:12guy who's willing to
- 44:13get hit at times because he just thinks he's going to really
- 44:15break you down?
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: And how does he keep up the tempo?
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, we haven't seen him had to sustain a tempo of any kind.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: And then,
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: against Hot Rod,
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: he kind of struggles down the last four,
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: three rounds,
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: maybe loses the last couple of rounds.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: So there's a lot of unanswered questions.
- 44:31But listen,
- 44:31that's why I'm saying you could find a million reasons in
- 44:37American boxing.
- 44:38not to make this happen we got to let it marinate well who's he
- 44:41beating this and
- 44:42that there's a million different reasons why this could turn
- 44:45into a three-year uh
- 44:47internet feud and they're just making the fight bro and i like
- 44:50it i like that it's
- 44:51that simple i like when guys do that right because they're
- 44:55giving us a great fight
- 44:56uh over under the disc starts out like haggler hearns two guys
- 45:00with a lot of energy
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: that just go for broke
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: I don't think so, bro.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I think they're both smarter than that.
- 45:06And I know that David Benavidez is an intense guy,
- 45:09but he's also a really smart fighter.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: He may come out swinging.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: I just think that they're both a little bit more thoughtful than that.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: Al the pal, thank you for being in the comments today.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: Morel is the same as Andre.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Look at what happened to Andre.
- 45:25SPEAKER_01: It was 190 plus fight night.
- 45:27Andre with Southpaw,
- 45:28same height,
- 45:29big fight night experience,
- 45:30more experience.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: done more rounds and look at what happened to him.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: And David didn't hate Andre.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: He hates morale.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: I think that's, I think that's a fair comparison.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Honestly.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, people disrespect Demetrius.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Demetrius is a hell of a fighter and he was doing good.
- 45:43And I feel like he kind of buzzed Benavidez and Benavidez is like,
- 45:47Oh,
- 45:47this pissed me off.
- 45:48SPEAKER_01: And then Benavidez switched to gear and just changed the fight.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Um,
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: It's good.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: This is a great fight, man.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: If you like boxing,
- 45:56you really need to buy this fight because these are the
- 45:58matchups we need to reward.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: We need to tell the promoters we will watch great matchups.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: We are not going to watch the bad matchups.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: We're going to tell PBC specifically.
- 46:09Really all promoters,
- 46:11but these are the matchups that we need to be rewarded with.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: You need to go out of your way to go watch.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Let's go into the co-feature.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: That's Brandon Figueroa versus Stephen Fulton.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: It's a rematch.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: What are your thoughts on this fight?
- 46:25Well,
- 46:26I mean,
- 46:27as much as,
- 46:27you know,
- 46:28Fulton won the first one,
- 46:29you'd have to favor Figueroa.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: Again, Figueroa just not active, bro.
- 46:34I think that's a big theme is there's guys on this card that I
- 46:37love watching that I want to see.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: And a lot of them just aren't active.
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: And I'm glad that we're getting to see Figueroa.
- 46:43SPEAKER_00: But what do we see him?
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: Once a year?
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: Once every 15 months?
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's like a... To some extent... He's like Waldo, basically.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: You have to kind of search out to figure out...
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they're all modeling their careers after Keith Thurman,
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: but it's just not going to work for all of you.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: You have to fight more than once every 16 months.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: And I love this matchup.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: I think Fulton...
- 47:08has a lot of questions he's going to have to answer and he's
- 47:11going to have a big,
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: strong,
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: physical,
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: high pace featherweight in his chest,
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: asking him those questions.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: I definitely have to lean towards Figueroa.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: But again,
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: when you don't fight very often,
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: it's tough to know how long it's going to take you to build your rhythm.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a tough one, right?
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: I saw Figueroa win in the first fight.
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: I'll let you go while I get some water real quick.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I saw Figueroa win in the first fight.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: That was my perception.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: A lot of people didn't see it.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: I saw Fulton getting hurt to the body.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: It was a close competitive fight.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: But I actually thought that Brandon Figueroa had won the first fight.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: So now you're looking at Fulton who lost to Inouye.
- 47:48And really after losing to Inouye,
- 47:50there's just been a lot of mental red flags with Fulton.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: You know, he's a very talented fighter.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: He has a tremendous skill set, right?
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: He's got, they call him scooter.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: People have called like,
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: he has great range,
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: like radar in the ring,
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: but against Carlos Castro,
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: people underrated the ability of Castro.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: So I don't rate that fight as bad as probably the average person.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: But that being said, um,
- 48:15To me,
- 48:15this is just two guys currently who their careers are going in
- 48:19two different directions.
- 48:21And Fulton,
- 48:23to me,
- 48:23the biggest red flag really was when he first fought Figueroa.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: And like I said before,
- 48:27because Dakota came back and I said that I thought Figueroa won
- 48:30the first fight.
- 48:31Fulton seemed to have the most motivation in his career and was
- 48:35in the best shape.
- 48:37My biggest concern with Fulton now is I'm not seeing that same
- 48:40level of conditioning,
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: quote unquote,
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: at least to me.
- 48:43And against Figueroa,
- 48:44you have to be in tip top shape because it's almost like Benavidez.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: You have to be skillful to outbox him.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: But really, the conditioning is a big thing in this fight.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: And I'm just not sure how much Fulton is giving currently, given kind of
- 48:59SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure how motivated he is.
- 49:00I think that there's a big letdown to fighting for these big
- 49:04money purses,
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: like with Inouye,
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: and then coming back to maybe smaller fights.
- 49:10And this is a big crossroads fight for him,
- 49:13but I think Figueroa is now trending up.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: And Fulton's trending down.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: And I think a lot of people saw the first fight the way I saw it,
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: where they thought Figueroa won the fight.
- 49:22And I think that is going to actually make Figueroa did think
- 49:25he won the first fight,
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: but he's coming in with a chip on his shoulder.
- 49:28SPEAKER_01: It's a very hard fight, in my opinion, for Fulton.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: It's also happening at a different weight.
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 49:34I think it's a weight that's more natural to Figueroa than it
- 49:37is for Fulton.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: Okay, Champy.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: Jesus Ramos is going to steal the show.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: He's coming from 154, going to be a great day for Arizona.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: I saw that too.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of people feel Figaro is the winner.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Dakota, who did you think won the first fight?
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: I remember feeling like Fulton edged it.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: I felt like it was a 7-5 type of fight.
- 49:59I just felt like he was – I felt like his defense was a little underappreciated,
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: and I felt like he was just landing the cleaner shots.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: But it was a real flip a coin kind of fight.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: It's the exact kind of fight you need a rematch for.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: But I do remember thinking that Fulton just barely edged it.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: Now we're going to get to Isaac Pitbull Cruz taking on Angel Fierro.
- 50:24So you muted yourself real quick,
- 50:26Bob,
- 50:26but I'm very confused by Cruz's situation.
- 50:29SPEAKER_00: I thought he was fighting Ryan Garcia in a couple of months.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: I don't think I remembered that he was on this card.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: It just seems unclear.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: Is he fighting Ryan Garcia?
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: So we talked about this last week,
- 50:40but I'm glad you brought it up because it goes into some
- 50:42topical news of the week.
- 50:44No,
- 50:44I know we talked about this matchup,
- 50:46but since then there's been all of this.
- 50:48Then I see it's going to be rolly,
- 50:50typical of any kind of Ryan Garcia news,
- 50:52right?
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: But...
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: Is that the case?
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: So what happened is,
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: and I respect what it seems like,
- 51:00SPEAKER_01: Lance Pugmire boxing scene,
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: one of the best writers in all of boxing,
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: arguably maybe even the best writer,
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: depending on who you ask,
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: did a feature with Cruz or Cruz's team,
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: and it appears that they chose to focus solely on this fight.
- 51:16So they weren't looking ahead,
- 51:18which I greatly respect that opinion,
- 51:20right?
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Because we were talking about this is a tough fight.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: He's fighting a like-minded guy come forward.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: He's gotten upset wins.
- 51:26And like you take a fight like this against a tough customer
- 51:29and that's how you end
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: up in a tough fight.
- 51:31So he's not taking the Ryan Garcia fight per se because he has
- 51:35a fight scheduled
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: and they wanted to get through the fight.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: And it sounded like they needed confirmation or something,
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: but that bout hasn't even been confirmed.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: So we don't even know what's going on,
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: but it sounds like now it's Jose Ramirez,
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: Devin Aini,
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: Rolly Romero,
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: Ryan Garcia,
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: which are both really solid fights in my opinion.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: I know a lot of people are laughing at them,
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: but I think that both of those fights,
- 51:56and we can get to them in our news and notes when we're just
- 51:59bullet pointing,
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: they're both compelling matchups to me.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: I think those are both real good fights,
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: and they answer questions with both guys who've been largely inactive.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, those fights are fine.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: I think for Cruz, you know, I think that's the right move.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: You're coming off a loss in your own right against Ryo.
- 52:18SPEAKER_00: That was a good fight,
- 52:19but it was a fight that he clearly lost and showed that there
- 52:23is a style that
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: bothers him.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: So you take another loss,
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 52:27against a guy that's not as recognizable because you're looking
- 52:30ahead to this big opportunity.
- 52:32SPEAKER_00: Then there's no opportunity, right, if you lose that fight.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: So I definitely respect that approach for sure.
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: Break down the fight for me.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: I've only seen Fierro a handful of times.
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: I've seen a lot of Pitbull cruise fights,
- 52:45and I just feel like if you give him any kind of opportunity to
- 52:49sit and really rip shots,
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: you're going to lose.
- 52:53SPEAKER_00: And so to me,
- 52:55outside of fighting a perfectly disciplined fight the way that
- 52:59Ryo did or a master
- 53:01SPEAKER_00: boxer like Shakur or maybe even like a Richardson Hitchens,
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: I just think that if you give him those moments,
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: he's taking them and he's going to win.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: And I think this will be another one of those because he's,
- 53:13SPEAKER_00: again,
- 53:13SPEAKER_00: we're not talking about somebody who is an Arislandi Lara,
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: you know what I mean?
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah,
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 53:21I just I think it's a tough fight because you got two Mexican
- 53:24fighters who are
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: pretty strong who punch and they're going to go forward.
- 53:27I would favor Cruz because he's shown that he's a dynamic
- 53:30fighter that's capable of
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: winning titles.
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: And Fiora hasn't.
- 53:33But this is the type of fight where you can end up getting a
- 53:36weird result or you can get it.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: I think it's going to be fun.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: I think it's going to be about six or seven rounds of real violence.
- 53:46I think they're going to give the most dull press conference
- 53:49quotes and possibly
- 53:50the most fun fight on the card because I think it's going to be
- 53:53very reckless.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: I think Cruz is going to come out with a point to prove,
- 53:56and I think Fiera is someone who feels as though he should be
- 54:03in these type of
- 54:03SPEAKER_01: fights and was largely overlooked.
- 54:06So I'm never a fan of fighting a guy who feels like he has a
- 54:09chip on his shoulder
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: and has won a big fight.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: when being largely ignored.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: Cruz just,
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: he just sort of strikes me,
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 54:16there's certain kinds of guys where that outside style is
- 54:19always going to bother him.
- 54:20But if you give them any moment in the pocket to set and let
- 54:24their shots rip,
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: like Antonio Margarito is a great example of that.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: David Tua is a great example of that.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: I think Cruz might be one of those kind of guys.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: And then opening the card, we got Jesus Ramos Jr.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: versus Jason Rosario.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: Love that fight.
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: Obviously, you know, Jesus is such an incredible talent.
- 54:49SPEAKER_00: I just want to see him in with the best of the best of the best.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: But Rosario is a good veteran coming off the Jarrett Hurd fight.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: It's a little bit of a mismatch for me.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: If I'm being honest, I think it's a little bit of a mismatch.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: But I'd rather see Jesus in the ring than not see him in the ring.
- 55:11SPEAKER_02: My mic disconnected as you said that, so there was a slight delay.
- 55:15Yeah,
- 55:16I mean,
- 55:17I think that they're in two different points of their career,
- 55:19right?
- 55:20Rosario is a former champion who had a great performance
- 55:24against Jarrett Hurd.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: He's probably getting rewarded even though that was a draw.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: It felt like he kind of had the stronger performance of the two.
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: Ramos feels like
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: He probably should have beat Erickson Lubin, didn't get the decision.
- 55:36It kind of altered his path towards a title where now he's kind
- 55:40of still stuck in
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: that mid-level,
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: but he's a real guy.
- 55:43SPEAKER_01: It feels like two guys at two different points of their career.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: And this is the classic for Asus Ramos, don't mess this up, dude.
- 55:50Like you've got to kind of show that you're a competent
- 55:52professional and you're
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: able to fight a former world champion who has a lot of power.
- 55:57who's coming in and is looking to revive his career,
- 55:59beating a guy like you.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: This is what competent professionals do,
- 56:03is they have a professional performance against someone that
- 56:07maybe on paper they're
- 56:08SPEAKER_01: supposed to beat,
- 56:09SPEAKER_01: but he stands out and kind of dominates.
- 56:13SPEAKER_01: I think what I'm expecting from Ramos,
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: based on my expectation of his talent,
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: is for him to separate.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: I think an X factor for this fight is Bob Santos is a very good coach.
- 56:23SPEAKER_01: So if Rosario is going to win, it's going to come down to Bob,
- 56:27helping him have a tremendous training camp where he gets into
- 56:31tip top shape and
- 56:32they really maximize what Rosario can do because I think at
- 56:35this point skill for
- 56:37SPEAKER_01: skill set for skill set Ramos has more skill than Rosario.
- 56:42So it's going to come down to a game plan and conditioning and
- 56:45X factors.
- 56:46And I think the tough thing is I think Ramos works just as hard
- 56:49as Rosario in the gym.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: So it's going to,
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: it would be one of those,
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 56:53you have to craft a very excellent game plan and get the most
- 56:56out of the fighter.
- 56:57I think for this to go Rosario's way,
- 56:59I just can't see a world where he's got the durability.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: It's very much.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: I just had to craft that little picture for you.
- 57:07SPEAKER_01: We got basically 10 more minutes,
- 57:10and then I'm going to eat some delicious Mexican food and watch
- 57:14some NFL playoff games.
- 57:15SPEAKER_01: By the way, 15 people in the live chat.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: We love you all.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: Hit the thumbs up button.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: Subscribe to the channel.
- 57:21And leave a comment,
- 57:22because if we have time,
- 57:23we will get to your questions.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: Champy said, PBC chose to ignore that they have a future star.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: Dude is barely 23, which is hard to believe.
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: that is kind of strange how little Ramos gets kind of pushed out there,
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: but that's whatever.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: That's whoever's choice.
- 57:43Keith Thurman fighting Brock Jarvis,
- 57:45and it looks like Tim Zhu could be possibly fighting...
- 57:48joey spencer according to some just stuff floating on the
- 57:52internet what are your
- 57:53thoughts on those fights they're fine i i don't know a whole
- 57:58lot about brock jarvis
- 57:59so i can't speak to whether or not that's an exciting opponent
- 58:02for keith thurman i
- 58:03always like to see some keith thurman bro he just doesn't ever
- 58:06let us so if he
- 58:08wants to come and have a fight i'm all for watching some keith
- 58:11thurman um and i
- 58:13SPEAKER_00: think that tim zoo
- 58:15You know,
- 58:15he needs a credible opponent who maybe has his own vulnerabilities.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: And,
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 58:22but it always feels like when you start contriving matchups
- 58:25before other matchups happen,
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: you get into trouble.
- 58:27SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 58:28SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: Maybe these things happen.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: Maybe they don't.
- 58:32SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: For me,
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: as far as Keith is concerned,
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: as much as I love watching him,
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: I don't believe it until the ring walks happen to him.
- 58:40I think Brock Jarvis is best known for being the guy that was
- 58:43signed to Matchroom
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: who looks just like me when I take my shirt off.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: And Liam Paro ran through him.
- 58:49And that was kind of like the intro of Liam Paro to the world
- 58:52was when Liam Paro
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: kind of starched Brock Jarvis.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: I didn't get to see it.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, so that's happening.
- 59:00SPEAKER_01: The rumored Haney, Ramirez, Ryan Garcia, Roley's card.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: Any thoughts on that?
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know, man.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: It's all kind of fine and dandy.
- 59:17SPEAKER_00: I have no personal desire to prolong this rivalry,
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: so I'd rather them kind of just have the second fight and keep it moving.
- 59:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know how it helps either of them to take pretty risky fights.
- 59:33SPEAKER_00: Not that they're not both heavily favored.
- 59:35SPEAKER_00: I just don't see what... There's nothing to build up.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: Who gives a shit?
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm fine with the matchups.
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, they both have been really inactive.
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: So,
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 59:48SPEAKER_00: just to get them more nights of them,
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: two more fight buildups of them fucking yapping at each other.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: Like I've kind of had enough.
- 59:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just, it is what it is.
- 59:58Like,
- 59:59so from my position in the sport,
- 1:00:01and I'm lucky enough to have a position in the sport.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: Do I love that side of boxing?
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: No,
- 1:00:07but that side of boxing also keeps the 360 promotions and the
- 1:00:13pro boxes and the
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: Salida promotion,
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_01: big fight USA cards going,
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: which are the stuff I love are those things.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: So maybe it's not a lot of people, but one to three people,
- 1:00:26watch for that fight and then they slowly go oh boxing's on and
- 1:00:29boxing's on so I
- 1:00:31try to take an approach that though influencer boxing might not
- 1:00:34grow boxing Ryan
- 1:00:35Garcia and Devin Haney fans slowly might integrate into
- 1:00:39watching more hardcore
- 1:00:40cards which is better for the sport at large so though I'm not
- 1:00:45a fan of maybe the
- 1:00:45behaviors of the press conference I am a fan of young people
- 1:00:50watching boxing and
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_01: maybe casually getting into more hardcore cards
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_00: I think everything you're saying is true.
- 1:00:57Just for me personally,
- 1:00:58I'm kind of all set on,
- 1:01:02on both of them right now,
- 1:01:04to be honest.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_00: And I'm certainly all set on both of them being in the same room.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_00: I,
- 1:01:09Brian Garcia has done nothing to show that he's a professional
- 1:01:11or that he's
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_00: reliable in the last year or two.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: And like,
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know, but I'm just not really that interested in him overall.
- 1:01:20And I think that Devin's really done himself a disservice by
- 1:01:23not just moving
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: forward separate from Ryan Garcia.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_01: One last thing I want to touch on,
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: and then we're done for this week,
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: is Clarissa Shields is fighting Daniel Perkins on Sunday.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_01: What are your thoughts on this fight, Daniel?
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: I was actually going to ask you, bro.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: Is that a real fight?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: I don't know Perkins.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_01: It's a real fight.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_01: Daniel Perkins might be 42, but she's a real heavyweight.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_01: She had a college basketball career.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_01: She's 5-0,
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_01: two knockouts,
- 1:01:49but she's a real six-foot heavyweight lady who competed and had
- 1:01:55a USA Boxing
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: amateur experience.
- 1:01:57And there is a question around how does Clarissa do fighting
- 1:02:01someone that's a
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_01: natural heavyweight?
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_01: So Clarissa is also really interesting as a person.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: She thinks that Danielle Perkins is underestimating her,
- 1:02:10thinking that she's just naturally bigger than her and that
- 1:02:12that alone will do it.
- 1:02:14I think Clarissa is really interesting because people can
- 1:02:18nitpick her opposition,
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: but no one's ever done it in these weight classes that she's done.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: So if it's really that easy, why didn't someone else do it?
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: I think that's the catch 22.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_01: Like, sure.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_01: You can point to there's limited competition,
- 1:02:31but she's beating everyone she can and no one before or after
- 1:02:35has done what she's done.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: So is it really that easy?
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: Well, it's definitely not easy.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: There's nothing easy about it.
- 1:02:44There's nothing easy about fighting fighters who are naturally
- 1:02:47bigger than you.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: I also do think,
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: again,
- 1:02:50it does kind of speak to just the lack of maybe interesting
- 1:02:53competition and weights below.
- 1:02:56And we are still to some extent kind of waiting for Jadeja
- 1:02:58Green to make herself
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: that appealing opponent.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_00: But at the moment,
- 1:03:02I think Claress is just trying to innovate and do what's sort
- 1:03:07of like the most
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: interesting option in front of her.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_01: By the way, her movie is awesome.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: So if anyone has a chance, her movie is a great movie.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: It's like a really, really good one.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: I think that also another knock on Clarissa.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_01: She behaves like basically every pro boxer ever.
- 1:03:25But because she's a woman,
- 1:03:26people are like,
- 1:03:26oh man,
- 1:03:28she's really getting aggressive.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: And it's like you look and there's like 50 men that behave like Clarissa.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_01: But then because Clarissa behaves like every other kind of like young,
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_01: talented,
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_01: aggressive fighter,
- 1:03:42she gets a backlash that I think a lot of other fighters that
- 1:03:45are men don't get.
- 1:03:46Not to make it a sexist conversation,
- 1:03:48but quite frankly,
- 1:03:49I think Clarissa gets graded
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_01: as like aggressive or confrontational with media really unfairly,
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_01: because I feel like there's a lot of,
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: go ahead.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: I was just going to say,
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: anytime somebody is like the first at something,
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_00: there's this expectation that they'll,
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: there'll be some sort of puritanical,
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: like a puritanical or perfect entity that is without flaws or whatever.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: You just get held to a different kind of standard.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_00: And it definitely seems like that's the case for, for her.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: Well,
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: I think what's cool for her is you don't think of Flint,
- 1:04:22Michigan as a place you could go to a boxing gym and watch a
- 1:04:25superstar rise and
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_01: bring boxing events back.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_01: And she's giving hope to basically a lot of people in Michigan.
- 1:04:33that you can just train at a boxing gym and you can be a pro
- 1:04:37fighter and you can be
- 1:04:38on big stages and i think that's like a big it's not just women
- 1:04:42per se i think
- 1:04:44she's showing people in the midwest like you can you know you
- 1:04:48can achieve you can
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: throw shows out here the world will watch these shows and i think that's
- 1:04:53interesting because you know how many fighters from michigan
- 1:04:56ended up in las vegas
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: la new york and it's like she's
- 1:05:02Silently kind of really along with Salida focused on being a
- 1:05:07major focus of this
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_01: era in the Midwest.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_01: And I think when it's all said and done,
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_01: there's going to be Midwest fighters that say,
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_01: I went to a Clarissa Shields show growing up.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_01: And I think that was very deliberate.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_01: And I think the sad thing is when she's closer to being done,
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_01: people are going to understand her influence.
- 1:05:23So I highly recommend people watching her fight because she's
- 1:05:27probably going to be
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_01: one of the most written about boxers once she's done.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_01: People don't write about her now,
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_01: but when she's done with her career,
- 1:05:34I think she's going to be one of the most talked about and
- 1:05:36celebrated fighters,
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_01: sadly.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: Well, and some of that is just not.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_00: Again,
- 1:05:41having compelling matchups that people get excited about
- 1:05:44outside of maybe Savannah Marshall.
- 1:05:46But some of that just speaks to like she's just sort of a level
- 1:05:49above and you can't,
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_00: there's other fighters that have just been a level of,
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: Vladimir Klitschko for a decade was just a level above everybody else.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_00: And that's not his fault that he was just better.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_00: And I think that's kind of some of what she's suffering from.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: Where can people find you this week, Dakota?
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: You can always find me at the Slippin' Wee Podcast,
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_00: at ITR Boxing,
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_00: on the Lukey Boxing Show,
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: YouTube,
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_00: Instagram.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_00: That's where you can find me, bub.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_00: Go check out my interview with Coach John Pullman.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_00: We did a great podcast last week, and I really enjoy talking to him.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_01: That's my guy, man.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: I like a little John Pullman in my life.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_01: Good YouTube channel, by the way.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_01: People should go subscribe to his YouTube channel.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_01: Very helpful.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: Just a saint of a man.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_01: Go to his Venmo.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_01: Give him some money.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: But that's the show.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: Any final thoughts?
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_00: Hell of a couple of weeks we got here, Bob, right?
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_00: We're really starting to open up for the year.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_01: Talk to you guys soon.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: This is Lukey and Dakota.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_01: We will be back maybe if the cards fall right.
- 1:06:54We'll be back after the main event,
- 1:06:56but more than likely we'll be back on Sunday.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_01: But maybe,
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: just maybe,
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: if our schedules line up and everything's good,
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_01: we might be able to do a quick post-fight to feed the beast.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_01: We will see.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_01: That is a developing story.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_01: See you guys next week.
