- 0:25Speaker 1: your piece.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Dog in the show here.
- 0:28Speaker 4: Anyway, this was the episode that Mike do So was
- 0:31Speaker 4: excited about the future.
- 0:33Speaker 3: I just I saw I'm able to jump into practice,
- 0:34Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh, that's it.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Ten wins.
- 0:36Speaker 2: It would have been two more wins last year, which
- 0:38Speaker 2: means two more wins this year, which means the floor
- 0:41Speaker 2: is eight.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Fred has spoken.
- 0:42Speaker 1: The ceiling is settled for Paul.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I am still I'm body surfing, I'm old, and I
- 0:48Speaker 3: still are not recovered. And then I was at the
- 0:50Speaker 3: Celtics game.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You got into it with a shizil barn on the market.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Does he care? We're working on it, you know, like
- 0:58Speaker 3: some people just don't care. Married to whatever him. Hard
- 1:03Speaker 3: to imagine that this was off the market. Well, I know,
- 1:07Speaker 3: I saw you. I like blue suit and your Harbor cruise.

- 1:27Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:31Speaker 2: atchi Lets Stadium, and it's a busy day. It's the
- 1:34Speaker 2: first O t A that the media has had access to.
- 1:38Speaker 2: So right now you see that I'm all by my lonesome,
- 1:40Speaker 2: I'm fred Kersh. But soon, in momentarily I'll be joined
- 1:45Speaker 2: by the gang.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:46Speaker 2: They're just wrapping up practice in player availability after practice,
- 1:50Speaker 2: so uh, don't fear you won't have to put up
- 1:53Speaker 2: with just me for the next two hours.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:56Speaker 2: But as I said, practice was today, I was out
- 1:59Speaker 2: there for a little bit before I had to come in.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Pretty nice day here at Jillette Stadium, a little overcast, cool,
- 2:06Speaker 2: I would say, you know, a little mile for this
- 2:08Speaker 2: time of year, temperature in the fifties, a little bit
- 2:11Speaker 2: of breeze. Teams were out in helmets in shells, so
- 2:16Speaker 2: they had their jerseys on with their numbers as in
- 2:19Speaker 2: years past. Remember sometimes they didn't put numbers on until
- 2:25Speaker 2: into training camp at some point when the preseason game started.
- 2:30Speaker 2: But they had numbers right away. So we'll get an
- 2:33Speaker 2: attendance report, a full attendance report when the guys get back.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But it was a nice day out there. It looked
- 2:40Speaker 2: like a normal practice. You know, started out with some
- 2:43Speaker 2: unit drills, then it went to stretching, then they break
- 2:45Speaker 2: out back into you know, the position drills. I don't
- 2:51Speaker 2: know if they got into seven and sevens. I didn't
- 2:53Speaker 2: stay that long. We'll get that report a little later,
- 2:57Speaker 2: but it was I would say, a productive day for
- 3:00Speaker 2: the team. Good to be out there. Mike Rabel had
- 3:02Speaker 2: a press conference prior to the practice where he talked about,
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know, it's mostly a teaching practice this time of year,
- 3:13Speaker 2: but there is some evaluation that goes on, not really
- 3:16Speaker 2: like who's going to beat out who for a position,
- 3:19Speaker 2: but more how is an individual doing? How have they
- 3:22Speaker 2: taken to learning so far? Are they a repeat? Are
- 3:25Speaker 2: they making mistakes more than once? Are they absorbing what
- 3:29Speaker 2: they're telling us? So in that way, there is evaluation
- 3:32Speaker 2: that's going on in addition.
- 3:35Speaker 3: To the teaching.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And as I say that the ultimate teacher comes in
- 3:39Speaker 2: and sits down, it's Mike too.
- 3:40Speaker 3: So the first off the field, Hello, Mike.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I know I was just giving people a little bit
- 3:46Speaker 2: of an update of what I saw, but I left early. Yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 2: pretty much right after stretching, So you can fill us
- 3:52Speaker 2: in what happened after that.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Well, I feel compelled to probably just tell people that
- 3:56Speaker 4: Drake May did throw four interceptions today, and that's probably
- 3:58Speaker 4: going to be a headline for a lot of a
- 4:02Speaker 4: lot of the reports you read. But hearing from the
- 4:04Speaker 4: people after the practice, including Hunter, Henry said, this is
- 4:07Speaker 4: our second day all together working on this second day
- 4:10Speaker 4: in the Josh mctaniel's offense.
- 4:12Speaker 3: So just to give everybody a little bit of.
- 4:14Speaker 4: I had to focus on the positive, all right, Christians
- 4:18Speaker 4: can Christian Dallas had two of them.
- 4:20Speaker 3: As I consult my notes here.
- 4:22Speaker 4: You know, it wasn't like, oh my god, terrible interceptions,
- 4:25Speaker 4: but you know, a couple of them were really nice
- 4:27Speaker 4: plays by by Gonzalez. It was a tough period where
- 4:31Speaker 4: it was del Pettis, then Gonzalez got to and then
- 4:34Speaker 4: Craig Woodson, the rookie, caught it deflected interception as well.
- 4:38Speaker 4: So it was a rough little period there for Drake
- 4:40Speaker 4: that I'm sure everybody's going to talk about and overreact to.
- 4:43Speaker 3: But I'll just say this.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Let me just well before we get back to that, though,
- 4:47Speaker 4: I just say the thing that caught my eyes I
- 4:49Speaker 4: was walking out here was Morgan Moses and Will Campbell
- 4:52Speaker 4: a one on one session in the middle of the practice.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I might need a moment. No, I might need a moment.
- 4:58Speaker 4: You'll be happy to know that our videos, members of
- 5:00Speaker 4: radio team, we're capturing this. But I mean it went
- 5:02Speaker 4: on a good I would say five to ten minutes
- 5:05Speaker 4: that Morgan Moses is just exactly taking young Will Campbell under.
- 5:08Speaker 3: His wing, giving him some coaching points. So that as
- 5:11Speaker 3: I walked up, I was excited about that. Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Yeah, No, everybody was kind of like, hey, look, it's
- 5:15Speaker 4: like everybody could tell but no, So I thought there
- 5:19Speaker 4: was a lot to take away from today, but those
- 5:20Speaker 4: are going to be the headline. So I just feel
- 5:22Speaker 4: like you got to get it out. People are going
- 5:23Speaker 4: to be you know, they were asking Hunter Henry about
- 5:25Speaker 4: the interceptions. They asked Christian Zalez about the interception. So
- 5:28Speaker 4: it is it, like I said, it's day two for
- 5:30Speaker 4: these guys in this offense.
- 5:31Speaker 3: So so they.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Actually did do like seven and seven or eleven on eleven.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Yeah, they did.
- 5:35Speaker 4: They did some eleven on eleven work and you know
- 5:37Speaker 4: at the end there was more walk through speed and
- 5:39Speaker 4: you could hear Rabel like, we're not trying to make
- 5:41Speaker 4: plays on the ball like this is just walk through,
- 5:44Speaker 4: which Paul turned to me and was like, I hope
- 5:45Speaker 4: the media made note of that because it's a little
- 5:48Speaker 4: bit of a different pace there at the very end.
- 5:50Speaker 4: But I thought though after that session where Drake through
- 5:53Speaker 4: those interceptions, he bounced back, he had some nice plays.
- 5:56Speaker 4: I had one nice throw to Kyle Williams down the sideline.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I think everyone wants to hear about the rookies. Kyle
- 6:03Speaker 4: Williams was very involved today, as was Trevon Henderson. Both
- 6:07Speaker 4: those two rookies getting a lot of run and will
- 6:08Speaker 4: Campbell with Henderson catching balls, catching the ball look comfortable,
- 6:12Speaker 4: looks smooth. I think, you know, I don't want to
- 6:14Speaker 4: speak for Paul, who look he can't be here, but
- 6:16Speaker 4: he said he did. He felt like Henderson looked really
- 6:19Speaker 4: comfortable catching the ball, which you know, if you watched
- 6:22Speaker 4: him play in college, but once he gets here in
- 6:23Speaker 4: the NFL and you see him in then at Patriots,
- 6:26Speaker 4: you know, helmet and practice uniform, it it's a little
- 6:28Speaker 4: bit different. So I thought those guys stood out to me.
- 6:31Speaker 3: That's great.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Yeah, And then as far as coaching, obviously you mentioned
- 6:35Speaker 2: Mike rabel I told our listeners that he had his
- 6:38Speaker 2: pre practice press conference. Yeah, but some of the other
- 6:42Speaker 2: new coaches, did you catch a glimpse of like their style? Yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 2: I mean I look obviously McDaniels, everybody probably want to know,
- 6:49Speaker 2: like he was obviously very involved with Drake.
- 6:52Speaker 4: It's just great to see the visor back out there,
- 6:53Speaker 4: that the Drake may visor where he's He's sorry that
- 6:56Speaker 4: Josh McDaniel's visor. I'm merging them together. But Scott Booker
- 6:59Speaker 4: can used to stand out to me. And I don't
- 7:01Speaker 4: know if that's simply a function of Terrell Williams not
- 7:05Speaker 4: being here yet to coordinate the defense.
- 7:07Speaker 3: I know, he said.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Zach Kerr, the linebackers coach, has been taking a bigger role.
- 7:12Speaker 4: He was very active in some of the defensive periods
- 7:14Speaker 4: I watched. But Scott Booker's just hard to miss. He's
- 7:16Speaker 4: very loud voice. He seems like he knows where he
- 7:19Speaker 4: wants guys. He's always got a smile. He's just got
- 7:21Speaker 4: a lot of really great energy. Everyone focuses on Vrabel's
- 7:24Speaker 4: energy and him dropping, and that wasn't as much of
- 7:26Speaker 4: that today, certainly helping various groups out, but wasn't as
- 7:29Speaker 4: much in the drills at the end in that walkthrough period,
- 7:32Speaker 4: hopped out at a safety spot.
- 7:34Speaker 3: To give a look. But yeah, those are the Booker's
- 7:36Speaker 3: a guy that stuck out to me for sure.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And do we have a chance to have a first
- 7:41Speaker 2: look at our new kicker?
- 7:42Speaker 3: All right, rookie kick a little bit.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Yeah, they did a short kicking period. The first one
- 7:46Speaker 4: he kicked, it went through me and Paul. I mean,
- 7:49Speaker 4: this is we're getting to be more refined with our kicker.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Like it was kind of going ten to four. It
- 7:53Speaker 4: was a little bit of a side. But then as
- 7:54Speaker 4: other ones look fine, I mean he hit all of them.
- 7:56Speaker 4: That was a very short It wasn't a competitive period.
- 7:59Speaker 4: They weren't trying to amp up like last year they
- 8:01Speaker 4: did where you know, the team lines up around them
- 8:03Speaker 4: and you know it was just kind of, hey, kick
- 8:05Speaker 4: some field goals. So so he was fine. I don't think.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I'm just sorry. I'm still gathering my thoughts here. I
- 8:11Speaker 3: don't think.
- 8:12Speaker 4: I don't think Farmer was out there. Farmer one of
- 8:15Speaker 4: the rookies, so he was one of the ones missing.
- 8:17Speaker 4: But for the most part they had pretty much the
- 8:19Speaker 4: whole group. I mean, Diggs wasn't there. Stevenson, which I
- 8:22Speaker 4: don't know if you talked about that yet, but I haven't.
- 8:25Speaker 4: His father passed away in March, so Mike, we're able
- 8:27Speaker 4: talked a little bit about that. He was here, he's left,
- 8:29Speaker 4: so they've.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Been in communication. He's dealing with ye with that at home.
- 8:33Speaker 4: But really those were the only three, Uh, you know,
- 8:35Speaker 4: a lot of guys limited though, but for the most part,
- 8:37Speaker 4: the whole team is pretty much here other than Diggs,
- 8:40Speaker 4: Stevenson and Farmer, So.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I think that's a good sign.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, from what I gathered, the vibe was
- 8:46Speaker 2: really good, upbeat, energetic and breaking out of huddles, quick
- 8:51Speaker 2: music playing. And you know, some fans might be interested
- 8:55Speaker 2: to know. Were there any notable differences from last year.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 8:59Speaker 4: I mean there weren't a lot of differences last year
- 9:02Speaker 4: between what we had seen under Bill Belichick and you know,
- 9:05Speaker 4: then this year, and I mean it's I find it interesting,
- 9:08Speaker 4: but you know, it's just kind of changing up the
- 9:10Speaker 4: dynamics of when you stretch and instead of being all right,
- 9:13Speaker 4: we're gonna stand on the sidelines and walk to the
- 9:15Speaker 4: middle and back, we're now we're all gonna be down
- 9:17Speaker 4: one end and walk from the end zone forward you know,
- 9:20Speaker 4: so some subtle differences like that, but I think overall
- 9:24Speaker 4: the general feeling of how practice goes where they get
- 9:27Speaker 4: out there, they do a little walk through with some
- 9:29Speaker 4: positional stuff. I guess now I'm saying it though, Fred,
- 9:32Speaker 4: maybe that's the difference. It's in the past, it felt
- 9:35Speaker 4: like we get out there, they do walk through that
- 9:37Speaker 4: was like we couldn't tape it or anything because they'd
- 9:39Speaker 4: be working on some kind of team piece of it,
- 9:41Speaker 4: and to really yeah, maybe maybe truly, but now it
- 9:44Speaker 4: seems like the early earlier drills, and again this could yeah,
- 9:47Speaker 4: this could just be OTA's but more position group based.
- 9:50Speaker 4: It's a little looser, guys are a little slower coming out.
- 9:53Speaker 3: I think that's just OTA related.
- 9:55Speaker 4: But but once you got into it, I'd say generally
- 9:57Speaker 4: it kind of falls the same.
- 9:58Speaker 3: You get into eleven on eleven, seven on seven towards
- 10:00Speaker 3: the end.
- 10:00Speaker 2: And when Paul and Evan comes, we'll get their take
- 10:02Speaker 2: on it as well. While you're here, I also want
- 10:06Speaker 2: to mention people probably know that on Friday we released
- 10:09Speaker 2: the episode one of Forged in Foxborough. So so far
- 10:15Speaker 2: it looks like you all like it. About over three
- 10:20Speaker 2: hundred and seventy thousand views just on YouTube awesome, So
- 10:24Speaker 2: you know, I want to get into that if people
- 10:26Speaker 2: have comments about that, what they like, what they didn't like. Mike,
- 10:31Speaker 2: I saw that you had an extended review with FITZI online.
- 10:34Speaker 4: I went on with Fitzy this morning. He you know,
- 10:36Speaker 4: wanted to talk a little bit about it. Of course,
- 10:37Speaker 4: I think I have about a thirty and mall even
- 10:39Speaker 4: twenty second cameo in it, which was really cool to
- 10:42Speaker 4: be part of it.
- 10:42Speaker 3: But I just for me, I've always I talk about
- 10:45Speaker 3: it all the time on this show. I always bring up.
- 10:47Speaker 4: The Football Life with Bill back in two thousand and nine,
- 10:50Speaker 4: and for me, seeing behind the scenes of a coach
- 10:53Speaker 4: speaking to the team and really how the coach wants
- 10:56Speaker 4: to mold that team and putting his imprint on it.
- 10:58Speaker 4: And I think that to me right from the get
- 11:00Speaker 4: go with Rabel behind the scenes, hearing him talk to
- 11:03Speaker 4: the team, and it just reinforces for me what we've
- 11:05Speaker 4: seen out at these two practices we watched so far,
- 11:08Speaker 4: that he's putting his stamp on this team, like this
- 11:10Speaker 4: is his team. He knows what he wants, he knows
- 11:13Speaker 4: what he's looking for, and you know, had an extended
- 11:15Speaker 4: kind of not talking to but just broke the team
- 11:18Speaker 4: down for a while at the end of practice, you know,
- 11:21Speaker 4: given his message.
- 11:21Speaker 3: So it's just you can tell.
- 11:23Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's the same thing I noticed where
- 11:26Speaker 4: it doesn't matter what position it is, he's talking to
- 11:28Speaker 4: the punt returners about.
- 11:30Speaker 3: You know, you just see him going up to the
- 11:32Speaker 3: random third string guy that just took.
- 11:34Speaker 4: A rep and getting up there and and showing him
- 11:37Speaker 4: the technique that he's looking for.
- 11:39Speaker 3: So it's it's encouraging.
- 11:40Speaker 2: It's going to be fascinating this year because we've got
- 11:44Speaker 2: a guy in Mike Rabel who, throughout his playing career,
- 11:47Speaker 2: it was.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Obvious that this guy was going to be a coach.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, everybody who interacted with him on the
- 11:52Speaker 2: field saw how smart he was and how he absorbed everything,
- 11:57Speaker 2: not just like his own position, but what the whole
- 12:00Speaker 2: team was doing. And he was also absorbing as he
- 12:03Speaker 2: went along, how coaches operate and how practices were operated.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And you know during the week, how you know, Bill
- 12:11Speaker 2: prepared the team for the opponent, and then not just here,
- 12:16Speaker 2: but in all his stops, Ohio State and Houston Oilers, And.
- 12:21Speaker 3: It's just so obvious.
- 12:22Speaker 2: So now you know, he has his first stint in Tennessee,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and I think the Patriots are going to have the
- 12:27Speaker 2: benefit of a guy who now gets another chance at
- 12:30Speaker 2: it and he's learned even more and you know, can
- 12:34Speaker 2: learn not only the stuff that he did well, but
- 12:37Speaker 2: from his mistakes in Tennessee. And we're going to be
- 12:39Speaker 2: the beneficiary of that. So I'm really excited to see that.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And when I see him out there, that's what I see.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I see a guy that's ultra confident in what he's
- 12:50Speaker 2: doing and knows what he wants to do, Like he knows, Okay,
- 12:55Speaker 2: this is how I want to interact with Specialty. And
- 12:57Speaker 2: by the way, the first group that he with today
- 13:00Speaker 2: with special Teams, you know you would think, oh, he's
- 13:02Speaker 2: going to go right to the defense or Drake. No,
- 13:04Speaker 2: he was Special Teams. And I think every part of
- 13:08Speaker 2: this team. I think he has an idea already how
- 13:11Speaker 2: he wants that unit to be and how his interaction
- 13:15Speaker 2: and his you know, involvement in that group will be.
- 13:19Speaker 2: It's I think he's got the whole season planned out. Yeah,
- 13:22Speaker 2: I swear to.
- 13:22Speaker 4: God well, and that's and that's why I said to
- 13:23Speaker 4: Paul Paul was getting ready to interview him for something.
- 13:26Speaker 4: He's right, and I think it might be for the
- 13:28Speaker 4: for the Game Day magazine. But that's what I My
- 13:30Speaker 4: interesting question with for Rabes is just what did you learn? Like,
- 13:33Speaker 4: what's different? How did you go into Tennessee? What did
- 13:35Speaker 4: you change a little bit? We always knew he had
- 13:37Speaker 4: the knowledge. I think what's been fun for me to
- 13:40Speaker 4: watch is him develop his coaching style.
- 13:42Speaker 3: It's one thing to.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Like have the knowledge to be able to coach it,
- 13:44Speaker 4: but you also have to teach, and we hear him
- 13:47Speaker 4: talk about being a teacher so much so I think
- 13:49Speaker 4: you really see the influence of his parents as educators
- 13:52Speaker 4: on him getting guys up to speed and you know
- 13:54Speaker 4: clearly the guy can hold a room and capture that attention.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Evan has joined us. Evan, you are out there. Put
- 14:04Speaker 3: him on the cut cut to we couldn't take my song?
- 14:15Speaker 3: You got a song? I'm special. No, it feels good
- 14:19Speaker 3: to be back right back in the saddle football out there.
- 14:25Speaker 2: So what you know, come off the legend Due already
- 14:28Speaker 2: gave the headlines that probably everyone will be which was
- 14:32Speaker 2: Drake May's day.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but aside from that, what would be your headline,
- 14:37Speaker 3: I would say, you know, just looking at the two
- 14:41Speaker 3: pairings on defense, Christian Barmore and Milton Williams on the
- 14:44Speaker 3: defensive line, and then obviously Gonzo and Carlton Davis that corner,
- 14:48Speaker 3: it felt like those two guys, those tandems were together
- 14:52Speaker 3: all day long, working early on you know, and I
- 14:56Speaker 3: think you can see the goal there, you know, see
- 14:59Speaker 3: the the vision in terms of the roster on defense,
- 15:03Speaker 3: and you know, we always get out of these practices
- 15:05Speaker 3: and it's always you know, it was it a good
- 15:07Speaker 3: day for the offense or a good day for the defense,
- 15:10Speaker 3: or a bad day for the offense, or whatever the
- 15:12Speaker 3: case may be. But Christian Gonzalez looked like the best
- 15:15Speaker 3: player on the field, which I don't think is a
- 15:17Speaker 3: big surprise, but it was certainly palpable in this practice.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Just I thought his second interception that he had on
- 15:24Speaker 3: on Drake May was just an incredible play. I mean,
- 15:27Speaker 3: you look at that play and you kind of just
- 15:29Speaker 3: have to tip your cap to the corner and be like,
- 15:31Speaker 3: that's that's mean he covered like forty yards, Like I
- 15:34Speaker 3: don't know what.
- 15:34Speaker 2: You know, as you say that isn't this good for
- 15:38Speaker 2: Drake May to have Carlton Davis and Christian Gonzales in
- 15:42Speaker 2: every one of his practices and to be going against
- 15:45Speaker 2: what could be one of the best pairs of corners
- 15:49Speaker 2: in the league every day, just the way Brady you know,
- 15:53Speaker 2: benefited from having Tylaw out there, and you know.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so love it. I love it. We wanted to
- 15:58Speaker 3: throw in himself.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Well, it's not so much that, but you know, he's
- 16:03Speaker 2: going to learn from practice where I would say, you know,
- 16:07Speaker 2: there might be a lot of young quarterbacks who don't
- 16:09Speaker 2: have you know, that type of uh you know skill again,
- 16:13Speaker 2: you know, working against them where they don't get to
- 16:15Speaker 2: learn in practice as much. So another thing to be
- 16:18Speaker 2: excited about if you're Patriots fans.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Sure, and both those guys Davis and gazalz hopping in.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Gonzalez last year is coming off an injury, he was
- 16:25Speaker 4: still getting his feet wet and understanding how to play.
- 16:28Speaker 4: So yeah, it's it's a lot of promising pieces on defense.
- 16:31Speaker 4: I mean, there's plenty to digest. It's but it seems
- 16:33Speaker 4: like a lot of different personnel moving around, trying guys
- 16:37Speaker 4: out at certain spots. Thought the safety's got a lot
- 16:40Speaker 4: of a lot of long looks to the lower end
- 16:41Speaker 4: safety guys, you know, like the del Pettises of the world,
- 16:44Speaker 4: the Craig Woodson's of the world.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Those guys getting a lot of runs. So it's it's fun.
- 16:48Speaker 4: I mean, it's fun for me is defense guy, to
- 16:50Speaker 4: see it start to come together and you know, to
- 16:51Speaker 4: see splaying out there and the free agency behind the
- 16:54Speaker 4: guys that Evan mentioned with Barmore and Williams, and you
- 16:57Speaker 4: really see the core of this new defense.
- 16:59Speaker 3: It's it's going to be different and I'm excited about Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 3: anything else. Evan, Well, I know that the headlines are
- 17:04Speaker 3: going to be about the four picks. Yeah, and I
- 17:06Speaker 3: know that's gonna a lot of people are gonna read
- 17:09Speaker 3: that and be like, oh, And I would just say
- 17:13Speaker 3: it's very early on, Like we're watching day two of
- 17:15Speaker 3: OTAs and we're watching an offense with Josh McDaniels that
- 17:19Speaker 3: I kind of expected to be a slow burn. Like
- 17:21Speaker 3: I think we all we talked about it that there
- 17:23Speaker 3: was a lot of mentally on the quarterback. There's a
- 17:26Speaker 3: lot of technical things. You know, there are instances today
- 17:29Speaker 3: where you know, he's hot, he's got you know, an
- 17:31Speaker 3: unblocked blitzer and he's got to make a quick decision,
- 17:34Speaker 3: and you know, was that a protection thing that they
- 17:36Speaker 3: should have moved the protection to pick up the blitzers
- 17:38Speaker 3: he's supposed to just throw. And there's some hesitancies there
- 17:41Speaker 3: and you know, route details and like there's all these
- 17:44Speaker 3: little intricacies to offensive football, especially in this kind of
- 17:48Speaker 3: system that on May twentieth, like there's just gonna be
- 17:51Speaker 3: bumps in the road, and you just hope as we
- 17:54Speaker 3: go here that it just gets better and better and
- 17:56Speaker 3: better and those mistakes, you know, become fewer and fewer.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Nobody likes to see the quarterback throw picks like that's
- 18:02Speaker 3: that's not going to be positive no matter what. But
- 18:05Speaker 3: I'm not surprised that as we see it here at
- 18:09Speaker 3: a very early stage of the off season, that this
- 18:12Speaker 3: McDaniel's offense isn't what it's going to look like come
- 18:16Speaker 3: September or October, November. It's it's a complicated system. It's
- 18:19Speaker 3: gonna take some time, of course.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Of course. All right, let's get to some calls. Is
- 18:24Speaker 2: Paul cumming or is he you know, he had to
- 18:25Speaker 2: go to his thing. Oh that's right, Yeah, he's got
- 18:27Speaker 2: a thing.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, I sat with him, though I got all
- 18:31Speaker 3: his thoughts. Okay, he's very excited, very excited.
- 18:34Speaker 2: All right, Well, let's let's add in some listeners and
- 18:37Speaker 2: also remember, you know, I want to carve out some
- 18:40Speaker 2: time at some point for your reaction to Forge in
- 18:42Speaker 2: Foxborough to see what people have to say about that.
- 18:45Speaker 2: But you know, while practice is still fresh on our minds,
- 18:48Speaker 2: let's get any questions that we might have. We'll start
- 18:50Speaker 2: with Patty and Agawam, what's up Patty's everyone?
- 18:55Speaker 3: Hey, hey, a.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Frid, I just want to go straight to four and Foxborough.
- 19:01Speaker 7: Okay, I watched the whole thing to the end, including
- 19:03Speaker 7: all the credits, and I've got to stay a big
- 19:06Speaker 7: bravo to you, my man.
- 19:08Speaker 6: And I've said this almost every year that I've been
- 19:10Speaker 6: a listener and a caller and an emailer for the
- 19:13Speaker 6: last thirty years. You're the undisputed king of Patriots media.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Well I had to probably the least amount to do
- 19:20Speaker 2: with it than anyone, but I appreciate that.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 19:23Speaker 6: But anyone that doesn't know the name Fred Kirsch or
- 19:27Speaker 6: Patriots on Filter Sport, that does not come to Patriots
- 19:31Speaker 6: dot com, you're doing yourself a disservice as a Patriots
- 19:33Speaker 6: band Wow, that's all I gotta say.
- 19:35Speaker 1: All right, what happened in practice?
- 19:38Speaker 3: Plater go Okay, thank you, Patty.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Unfortunately he's talking to people who do know s so,
- 19:44Speaker 2: but that's I appreciate.
- 19:45Speaker 3: That was kind of a fun part for me though,
- 19:47Speaker 3: Like obviously the whole thing was great, but then to
- 19:49Speaker 3: get you get to the credits and it's like all
- 19:50Speaker 3: people that you know and are friends with and you
- 19:53Speaker 3: just see all your coworkers get in some shine. It
- 19:55Speaker 3: was cool.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I worry about that though. I don't like
- 19:59Speaker 2: the you know, saying giving credit to ourselves like today,
- 20:05Speaker 2: I guess we were won a bunch of awards Teley
- 20:07Speaker 2: Awards for various things that we did in twenty twenty four,
- 20:11Speaker 2: including the Tom Brady Day, and it's great, but like
- 20:16Speaker 2: I feel uncomfortable saying.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Well, look what we want.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Ye I know that's the way it is today and
- 20:20Speaker 2: you you know, you celebrate your accomplishments and all that,
- 20:23Speaker 2: but I don't know, I was kind of schooled under
- 20:26Speaker 2: a different regime where you kind of give credit to
- 20:29Speaker 2: others and yeah, you know, yeah, yeah, So I don't
- 20:31Speaker 2: know what's that, Matt, because we didn't nominate it for anything.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Podcast we probably should have. Yeah, is there like a
- 20:43Speaker 3: podcast thing that you can do? There's the Channel Market
- 20:47Speaker 3: Media survey, right that they do every year where they say,
- 20:50Speaker 3: oh yeah, yeah yeah, the best Patriots podcast.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a survey.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 2: We we usually register in that one, don't we, even
- 20:58Speaker 2: though we're not we're not. Did people write us in? Yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 2: we don't get really bad?
- 21:03Speaker 3: Yeah that's how we.
- 21:04Speaker 2: But Matt will we'll make note of that for next
- 21:07Speaker 2: year to you know, whatever the podcast award committees are.
- 21:14Speaker 2: It was Rhode Island Monthly's Best Part. Okay, it all
- 21:19Speaker 2: right good.
- 21:19Speaker 4: A lot of these awards it's like you just have
- 21:21Speaker 4: to submit it, I know, and you submit it and
- 21:23Speaker 4: you pay the fee, you might win.
- 21:25Speaker 3: That's the other thing.
- 21:25Speaker 2: It's like, you know, all of them are money making.
- 21:29Speaker 4: That was like, you know, I discovered when I was
- 21:31Speaker 4: a screenwriting contest. That's like, you know huge, It's just
- 21:35Speaker 4: that people can't screenwrite them. They have screenwriting contests like
- 21:38Speaker 4: pay me to read your scripts and here's the best.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Smart right right, Yeah, it's a money grab all right.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Dominique is in New York. What's up Dominique here?
- 21:47Speaker 3: How you doing good?
- 21:49Speaker 1: Good?
- 21:50Speaker 8: The first and foremost like congress on the documentary about
- 21:55Speaker 8: the phenomenal I really really enjoyed it, Evan, I know
- 21:59Speaker 8: a part but for me this is you know, our
- 22:02Speaker 8: hot arts, and I actually appreciate the hype that you
- 22:05Speaker 8: know it's given me for the season. I appreciate the
- 22:09Speaker 8: shots of Will Campbell just being you know, brought into Foxbug,
- 22:12Speaker 8: getting a little bit of understanding what you know, the
- 22:15Speaker 8: draft process was for the past this year. So you'all
- 22:18Speaker 8: did a phenomenal job. I'm really excited to see the
- 22:20Speaker 8: second episode and get to know the plays a little
- 22:23Speaker 8: bit more, you know, get some interviews. So so, great
- 22:25Speaker 8: job there, y'all for a real great job.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 8: So I have a quick question outside of that. I
- 22:33Speaker 8: know everyone we all know that May have these tools
- 22:36Speaker 8: to be the franchise quarterback. I think some people are
- 22:38Speaker 8: labeling that I'm a little bit of hesitant.
- 22:41Speaker 9: I feel like with.
- 22:42Speaker 8: These conversations I always try to point to at least
- 22:45Speaker 8: the string of plays or games where you realize he
- 22:48Speaker 8: is the one or he should be the one. Can
- 22:51Speaker 8: either of you, all three of you recall when you
- 22:53Speaker 8: realize whether it was a game a string of plays
- 22:56Speaker 8: that Drake May is the potential franchise quarter you know,
- 23:00Speaker 8: quarterback for the next ten to fifteen years. I'll take
- 23:04Speaker 8: it off one.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Okay, thanks.
- 23:06Speaker 2: So when was the moment last year where you realize
- 23:10Speaker 2: he is or could be the franchise court now for Paul,
- 23:13Speaker 2: he he'd say I have it.
- 23:15Speaker 4: I don't think he'd be totally wrong to say that,
- 23:17Speaker 4: but I would say, just for me to hoot that
- 23:18Speaker 4: Houston game when he threw the touchdown of Booty. I mean,
- 23:20Speaker 4: it's we saw throws like that in training camp and
- 23:23Speaker 4: he just translated it to a game.
- 23:25Speaker 3: But that's as close as I can get.
- 23:27Speaker 4: I can't really say, like, oh, this was the moment
- 23:29Speaker 4: I knew for sure, Like him doing that in a
- 23:31Speaker 4: game to me just showed this kid can push the
- 23:33Speaker 4: ball down the field. He's not afraid, and he's gonna
- 23:35Speaker 4: throw everything he has into it out there. So but
- 23:38Speaker 4: we'll see this year, like I don't want to make
- 23:40Speaker 4: that jump in like I want it this year.
- 23:41Speaker 3: I want this year to be like I don't think
- 23:44Speaker 3: there was any one moment. I think it was.
- 23:46Speaker 2: A compilation of a skill set that I saw, like
- 23:50Speaker 2: him being able to do different things at a high level.
- 23:55Speaker 2: You know, he hasn't done the big thing, which is like,
- 23:58Speaker 2: you know, lead a comeback and.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Right, and the end of the Tennessee game was like clos.
- 24:04Speaker 2: You know, So there's still more to be seen.
- 24:07Speaker 3: For sure.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Obviously number one is eliminating those mistakes. But I think
- 24:12Speaker 2: over the course of the games, I saw a skill
- 24:16Speaker 2: set that it said, Okay, this can be elite if
- 24:20Speaker 2: if now the head follows the skill sets there.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that's exactly how I would put it. Not to
- 24:25Speaker 3: play Paul, but like, I don't know if he's the
- 24:27Speaker 3: franchise quarterback yet. You know, he's got to go out
- 24:29Speaker 3: there and win games. But you see the flashes of
- 24:32Speaker 3: him being a franchise talent. You know, Let's see if
- 24:36Speaker 3: he can be more consistent even today, Like he makes
- 24:39Speaker 3: some great throws today, he also made some not so
- 24:42Speaker 3: great throws, So like, if you can, you got to
- 24:44Speaker 3: package the great ones and kind of put those in
- 24:46Speaker 3: a bottle and make those more consistent and then you
- 24:49Speaker 3: have a franchise quarterback. But the Rams game, I would
- 24:51Speaker 3: say was probably his best game from start to finish,
- 24:54Speaker 3: where I started to be like, all right, you know,
- 24:55Speaker 3: some of these throws, some of the reads he was
- 24:58Speaker 3: making and things like that are are really really high level.
- 25:01Speaker 3: And I thought that was his best game last year.
- 25:03Speaker 3: So if there was a moment that I said, Okay,
- 25:06Speaker 3: this has we have legs here, you know, this could
- 25:09Speaker 3: have the makings of it, I would say probably against
- 25:11Speaker 3: the Rams, Yeah, I.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Mean some of the out of pocket stuff. Yeah, you know,
- 25:15Speaker 2: throws out of pocket on the run. You know, in
- 25:19Speaker 2: today's NFL, if you're not Tom Brady, to be elite,
- 25:23Speaker 2: you need to be able to do that.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:25Speaker 4: It's just so hard because he has all the talent
- 25:27Speaker 4: in the world necessary to do it, but so do
- 25:29Speaker 4: a lot of other guys that never put it together.
- 25:31Speaker 3: So it's you know, there's got to be some magic within.
- 25:34Speaker 4: And I was just I mean I was looking back
- 25:36Speaker 4: at my notes, you know, bouncing back after that four
- 25:37Speaker 4: interception one eighty five on a crosser Williams on the sideline.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I thought that was a pretty nice throw.
- 25:42Speaker 4: And then a little little backshorlett, a little fade the
- 25:45Speaker 4: baker against Gonzalez. So he did make some nice throws today.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Yeah, Well Ononda Williams was probably his best throw. Just
- 25:51Speaker 3: it would look like, as Paul is to say, it
- 25:52Speaker 3: looked like an NFL play. At the timing and the
- 25:55Speaker 3: rhythm of it looked really good. The interceptions I think
- 25:59Speaker 3: are all just a little things where he's he's learning.
- 26:02Speaker 3: You know, he's learning. All right, that's Christian Gonzalez over there,
- 26:05Speaker 3: Like I gotta make him respect that I could throw
- 26:08Speaker 3: the flat here, because otherwise he's just gonna fall off
- 26:11Speaker 3: the flat and fall underneath the deeper out and kind
- 26:13Speaker 3: of provide that help over the top because he's staring.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I'm staring at the receiver down the field, and I'm
- 26:19Speaker 3: not moving him with my eyes. Like those are things
- 26:21Speaker 3: that you hope that he just logs in the memory
- 26:24Speaker 3: bank and now the next time he sees that look
- 26:26Speaker 3: and the next time he tries to make that throw,
- 26:28Speaker 3: he makes it a little bit differently and you don't
- 26:30Speaker 3: have Christian Gonzalez.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Well, it'll be interesting, I think as an exercise, maybe
- 26:35Speaker 2: we go back and look at his interceptions last year
- 26:39Speaker 2: and see what happened on these plays and then see
- 26:42Speaker 2: like if similar things happen in practice this year, Like
- 26:46Speaker 2: did he learn from that?
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say, like the one that today that
- 26:50Speaker 3: was tipped over the middle, like that was that one
- 26:52Speaker 3: was a lot of what last year was where tip
- 26:55Speaker 3: balls or like you know, guys going off receivers hands
- 26:59Speaker 3: and going to to defenders and like things like that.
- 27:02Speaker 3: And you know, you when you hit a receiver in
- 27:05Speaker 3: the hands, you want the receiver to catch the ball.
- 27:06Speaker 3: But that doesn't always mean that it was a great throw.
- 27:08Speaker 3: You know, it could have been a little bit behind him,
- 27:10Speaker 3: it could have been a little bit too high. You know,
- 27:12Speaker 3: things like that that make a make differences when it's
- 27:15Speaker 3: so fast and it happened so quickly at this level.
- 27:18Speaker 3: So I would say a lot of them were that,
- 27:20Speaker 3: And if you can just kind of cut down on
- 27:23Speaker 3: those ones and you just live with sort of the
- 27:25Speaker 3: gunslinger ones, which I think are always going to be there.
- 27:28Speaker 3: That's just his playing styles that he's always going to
- 27:30Speaker 3: have some gunslinger turnovers.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Phil's in Coventry. What's up, Phil?
- 27:35Speaker 8: Hey, guys, how are we doing today?
- 27:37Speaker 3: Okay?
- 27:41Speaker 8: I got a couple of questions kind of off the
- 27:43Speaker 8: beating path about the referee cruise and but does the
- 27:49Speaker 8: NFL great them? And do we know which.
- 27:54Speaker 10: Cruise will be on what games at a time, like
- 27:57Speaker 10: not that we.
- 27:57Speaker 6: Got the schedule not that far.
- 28:00Speaker 11: And the other thing is do you guys have like
- 28:02Speaker 11: a favorite crew.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Well, they do grade them for sure, and in fact,
- 28:08Speaker 2: you get your playoff assignment based on your regular season grade,
- 28:13Speaker 2: so there is a reward for having good grades. The
- 28:15Speaker 2: problem is they get great as crew and as individuals.
- 28:19Speaker 2: But then what did they stop it? Because what they
- 28:22Speaker 2: would do in the playoffs is they'd break up the
- 28:25Speaker 2: crews and they just use the individuals and then team
- 28:28Speaker 2: them up with people they haven't been working with throughout
- 28:30Speaker 2: the season.
- 28:31Speaker 3: I don't think they should do that. Yeah, they would
- 28:33Speaker 3: form all star crews, Yeah, yeah, they do.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I think they should grade the crew and keep them
- 28:38Speaker 2: as a crew because you know, you work together all season,
- 28:41Speaker 2: don't you want that? So but I think, you know,
- 28:44Speaker 2: they want to reward individuals and and so that's how
- 28:47Speaker 2: they do it.
- 28:47Speaker 3: But they do.
- 28:48Speaker 2: In fact, I don't have a favorite crew, you know.
- 28:51Speaker 3: I would also say, you know, another big problem is
- 28:53Speaker 3: for the league is that there's so much money in TV,
- 28:57Speaker 3: and so these really good officials are retiring from officiating
- 29:00Speaker 3: and getting hired by Fox or ESPN or whatever to
- 29:03Speaker 3: be rules experts. And they make a lot more money
- 29:07Speaker 3: probably doing that, and they don't have to They have
- 29:09Speaker 3: no pressure and get screamed at guy. Right, they have
- 29:12Speaker 3: none of the fallback or you know, being an official,
- 29:16Speaker 3: but they do great crews. You know that. You do
- 29:18Speaker 3: hear a lot about this crew. You know, throws a
- 29:20Speaker 3: lot more flags in the average, or there's a lot
- 29:23Speaker 3: more holding calls when it's this referee group. And I
- 29:26Speaker 3: do think the teams talk about that kind of stuff.
- 29:28Speaker 3: And during the week.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I know Belichick used to school his team because the
- 29:33Speaker 2: other question was, you know how far in advance do
- 29:35Speaker 2: you know the creuse? You certainly know the week of
- 29:37Speaker 2: what crew you're going to have for the game. So
- 29:39Speaker 2: coaches do, like Belichick's, you know, school.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Up their team.
- 29:43Speaker 2: You know this this crew is known for holding, like
- 29:47Speaker 2: Evan said, or this crew lets you play and test
- 29:51Speaker 2: them until it proves it otherwise, you know, play that
- 29:54Speaker 2: way until it proves otherwise in the game. What was
- 29:58Speaker 2: the crew this year? They would always have I think
- 30:01Speaker 2: the Thursday night game or one of them, and they
- 30:03Speaker 2: had they were known for the most penalties, and every week,
- 30:06Speaker 2: sure enough it was a flag fest.
- 30:09Speaker 3: I forget which crew it was. Yeah, it's just not hockey.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Lely is.
- 30:11Speaker 3: I know his son Sean, I don't think it was.
- 30:16Speaker 4: He does, but it was another guy that, Oh I
- 30:19Speaker 4: don't have a favorite, Yeah, Craig Rollstad.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 30:22Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of random rep names. All of
- 30:24Speaker 3: the names that I can come up all the top
- 30:26Speaker 3: of my head are now all in TV. That's my
- 30:28Speaker 3: Jean's territor and like all those guys. But yeah, I
- 30:34Speaker 3: can believe there you go. That sounds who's Terry McAuley,
- 30:38Speaker 3: who's he's a rules expert? Now saying.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Dave's in Florida? What's up David?
- 30:48Speaker 11: Hey, guys are going? So I had I had two things.
- 30:54Speaker 11: The first thing, I just want to touch on Jalen
- 30:56Speaker 11: Polk a little bit. I'm not sure why people are
- 31:00Speaker 11: so like confident that he's gonna be a roster lock
- 31:03Speaker 11: this year because I personally feel like a chain Polk.
- 31:07Speaker 7: Okay, because I personally feel like we anything that he
- 31:13Speaker 7: that Polk excels, that we have another guy on the
- 31:16Speaker 7: roster who does it better, and.
- 31:18Speaker 11: I feel like he's a little bit redundant. I guess
- 31:22Speaker 11: just because he's the second round pick. I don't feel
- 31:23Speaker 11: like that should earn him a roster spot, especially considering
- 31:26Speaker 11: a lot of the the graphs that you see are
- 31:29Speaker 11: are actually expanded just to show how bad he was
- 31:32Speaker 11: last year. I'm just not too confident.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I had one more thing, excuse.
- 31:39Speaker 11: That this was just about Drake May. I was just wondering.
- 31:43Speaker 11: I know it's only the first oka or second oka,
- 31:46Speaker 11: but some of these things do matter. And at what
- 31:50Speaker 11: point do you get concerned or at what point do
- 31:52Speaker 11: you consider, well that that was just the first day. Yeah,
- 31:57Speaker 11: I'll take it off.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Okay, thanks to get into Yeah, get into the training camp.
- 32:01Speaker 4: I mean this is a teaching camp, I would say,
- 32:03Speaker 4: So you got to give him a little bit of
- 32:05Speaker 4: room to grow.
- 32:06Speaker 3: I understand his feelings on Polk. I would disagree a
- 32:09Speaker 3: little bit.
- 32:09Speaker 4: I do think that he offers a little bit more
- 32:12Speaker 4: than some of the other guys in terms of physicality,
- 32:14Speaker 4: in terms of strong hands. But but I don't think
- 32:17Speaker 4: he's going to be gifted the roster spot. I think
- 32:19Speaker 4: he's gonna have to earn it. But I do think
- 32:21Speaker 4: that there's enough of a gap in his skill set
- 32:24Speaker 4: that he can contribute and can be a unique player
- 32:27Speaker 4: within this wide receiver room. I still really like him.
- 32:29Speaker 4: I mean, you know, he was kind of still limited.
- 32:31Speaker 4: I think ye appeared on the I think at elbow.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Or is it shoulder surgery? Shoulder surgery this offseason, So
- 32:37Speaker 3: he's still a little bit limited. But I haven't given
- 32:40Speaker 3: up hope.
- 32:41Speaker 2: I mean, I would say if it was the same
- 32:42Speaker 2: regime from last year, I'd say he'd be more of
- 32:44Speaker 2: a lock, right because but since it wasn't their pick
- 32:49Speaker 2: or very Rabel's pick, you.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Know, they don't know anything.
- 32:51Speaker 2: They don't own them, they don't you know, they don't
- 32:53Speaker 2: you know. But he still is a second round pick,
- 32:56Speaker 2: and Elliott second yeah, and Elliott Wolf is still here. Yeah,
- 33:00Speaker 2: So I think he's going to get the benefit of
- 33:02Speaker 2: the doubt until he you know.
- 33:05Speaker 4: I mean, we all watched him be really productive last
- 33:07Speaker 4: year in camp, and I know that didn't count for anything,
- 33:09Speaker 4: and it was a slow burn once he you know,
- 33:11Speaker 4: didn't get his back of his feet down and then
- 33:13Speaker 4: for that touchdown, it seemed from that point things DeVault graveled.
- 33:16Speaker 4: But I'm really excited to see him. What does it
- 33:19Speaker 4: look like in camp this year? Does he come out
- 33:20Speaker 4: and have another really productive camp. If that's the case,
- 33:23Speaker 4: then I think that there's something there. You got to continue,
- 33:25Speaker 4: But you're not wrong if he if he looks in
- 33:27Speaker 4: camp this year, like he looked in the regular season
- 33:29Speaker 4: last year, we didn't really know he was going.
- 33:31Speaker 3: The route seemed choppy, just nothing was smooth.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Yeah, then I go back to what Elliott Will said.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I think it was at the after of the season
- 33:41Speaker 2: where they were they hoped for a little bit more development,
- 33:45Speaker 2: and he was talking about the coaches and probably that
- 33:49Speaker 2: wide receiver rule. Sure, you know, so I think that
- 33:53Speaker 2: they're expecting guys like Pope will get better coaching this
- 33:57Speaker 2: year and at least better direction because that room was
- 34:00Speaker 2: a mess last year.
- 34:01Speaker 3: He really was, But he's not a lock. Like, I
- 34:03Speaker 3: don't think anybody is putting him down as a lock
- 34:05Speaker 3: because he's what he did last year. He's going to
- 34:07Speaker 3: have to prove that he's worthy of making the roster.
- 34:09Speaker 3: I don't think we're we're gifting away any roster spots
- 34:13Speaker 3: to anybody really, right, you know, the guys drafted this year,
- 34:18Speaker 3: you know, obviously they're not cutting Christian Gonzales like you know,
- 34:21Speaker 3: but like, I don't think that guys like Jalen Polk
- 34:23Speaker 3: or Javon Baker or even Kendrick Bourne are locks. I
- 34:28Speaker 3: mean i'd say that they have, you know, Polk and
- 34:30Speaker 3: bourn have good chances to make the team, but I
- 34:32Speaker 3: wouldn't say that their locks.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like last year when we went into
- 34:35Speaker 4: it and it was like Taekwon Thort. I mean it
- 34:37Speaker 4: was a similar felt like a similar logjam at wide
- 34:39Speaker 4: receiver and things have a way of working.
- 34:42Speaker 2: They should do Ronaldo's in Fall River. Hey Ronaldo, Hey,
- 34:47Speaker 2: how's go guys?
- 34:48Speaker 3: Good?
- 34:49Speaker 6: But I just have to questions.
- 34:50Speaker 12: Do you think we should have drafted another quarterback like
- 34:53Speaker 12: in the seventh round to increase the quarterback room competition?
- 34:57Speaker 12: And you blame Drake me and say you're from last
- 35:00Speaker 12: season on your on Mayo for his supporting cast like
- 35:05Speaker 12: offensive line and wide receiver.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Thank you, Okay, thanks. I don't know.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I I think they brought in Josh Dobbs and they've
- 35:14Speaker 2: got the other young guy.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't know where you're looking for competition. Yeah,
- 35:18Speaker 3: I don't.
- 35:19Speaker 4: I don't necessarily hate it, Like I would have been
- 35:21Speaker 4: fine with with spending a late round drop pick on
- 35:23Speaker 4: a guy Woldridge.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Seems fine out there.
- 35:26Speaker 4: You gets some opportunity reps, but there's just not a
- 35:29Speaker 4: lot of competition, Like you just want Drake to learn
- 35:31Speaker 4: the offense.
- 35:31Speaker 3: You also got to remember that everything's new.
- 35:34Speaker 2: So rather than focusing on let's have competition, how about
- 35:39Speaker 2: let's focus on developing Drake May and and this offense.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Because McDaniels is here, he's it's it's all new, So
- 35:47Speaker 2: let's just get the guys here.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Let's get Drake May going.
- 35:50Speaker 2: I'm not We'll worry about competition next year when the
- 35:53Speaker 2: offense has been settled and we've got a year under
- 35:56Speaker 2: then we then we can light a fire on the
- 35:58Speaker 2: Drake May if we need to do that.
- 36:00Speaker 3: That's sort of how I feel about it. It's like,
- 36:02Speaker 3: right now, like what's the point of the competition, right, Yeah,
- 36:06Speaker 3: he's not. He's the third overall pick in his second season,
- 36:08Speaker 3: so he's it's his job to lose. So if you
- 36:11Speaker 3: bringing a guy a competition, all that's doing is creating
- 36:14Speaker 3: friction in the locker room, like and in the quarterback
- 36:18Speaker 3: room specifically. So I think that's a big reason why
- 36:21Speaker 3: Joe Milton's not here is because of all that. So
- 36:23Speaker 3: you look at.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Well and plus because the time they need to spend
- 36:27Speaker 2: with Drake this year, it'd be an unfair competition. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:30Speaker 2: you're not going to be given this guy equal snaps.
- 36:33Speaker 3: You know, hopefully we never get to this point. But
- 36:36Speaker 3: right you're four, you're five, you know, if he's still
- 36:39Speaker 3: not fully getting it, like, that's when you start to
- 36:41Speaker 3: look at you know, should we draft a quarterback here
- 36:44Speaker 3: and maybe put somebody into this room that has some
- 36:47Speaker 3: upside that we think could be a starter down the line.
- 36:50Speaker 3: But now, I mean, you're it's Drake May's show. You know,
- 36:53Speaker 3: it's up to him.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I mean, you know, and if people are worried that
- 36:56Speaker 2: on this show, we're going to, like you know, in
- 36:59Speaker 2: week four say oh, you know, coddle Drake May and
- 37:02Speaker 2: not call like we see it. Don't worry about that.
- 37:06Speaker 2: I mean, if he has a bad game, we're going
- 37:07Speaker 2: to say it. If if a pick is his fault,
- 37:09Speaker 2: we'll say it. But if if a pick is because
- 37:11Speaker 2: of receivers rounding out his routes or you know or whatever.
- 37:15Speaker 3: We'll say that too. So we'll try to be fair
- 37:18Speaker 3: from what we can tell, you know, but some of
- 37:22Speaker 3: it is obvious.
- 37:22Speaker 4: I mean it it's but this is the big thing
- 37:25Speaker 4: for him. This is it cutting down on turnovers. And
- 37:27Speaker 4: that's why, as much as we can say today didn't
- 37:30Speaker 4: mean anything. The one thing you need out of Drake
- 37:32Speaker 4: May this year to cut out of the turnovers. It's
- 37:34Speaker 4: not great to just have four. And you know that's
- 37:35Speaker 4: the talking point. Unfortunately, that's what we got to talk about.
- 37:37Speaker 3: I mean, no, you never, like I said, you never
- 37:39Speaker 3: wanted the quarterback to throw four picks. Like, no matter
- 37:42Speaker 3: what practice is, whether it's August or it's it's May,
- 37:45Speaker 3: you never want to go out there. And the one
- 37:46Speaker 3: practice we get to watch and he throws picks, you know,
- 37:49Speaker 3: four out of ten reps, he's throwing picks Like you
- 37:51Speaker 3: don't want to see that.
- 37:52Speaker 2: I mean, if Trevion Henderson was out here dropping the
- 37:54Speaker 2: ball or you know, that wouldn't be good either.
- 37:56Speaker 3: You know, you just can't do that. Yeah, just the
- 37:58Speaker 3: way I saw, most of the interceptions were him thinking
- 38:03Speaker 3: through things a little bit too slow, right, and just
- 38:05Speaker 3: kind of trying to grasp this whole offense, in this
- 38:08Speaker 3: whole system. So that's why I'm not, by any means
- 38:11Speaker 3: panicked about it yet because it's day two, Like he
- 38:14Speaker 3: hasn't been in this offense for very long. But I
- 38:17Speaker 3: had some small sea concerns about it to begin with,
- 38:20Speaker 3: before we even got here about Daniels and all this
- 38:23Speaker 3: so it's not that it means nothing. You know, it's notable. Yeah,
- 38:27Speaker 3: I mean last year happened like you can't erase it.
- 38:31Speaker 2: So I know that. You know, the term blank slate
- 38:35Speaker 2: gets used with a lot of people, including returning players,
- 38:38Speaker 2: but what they did last year matters. So I would
- 38:42Speaker 2: be surprised if Mike Rabel and his staff haven't looked
- 38:45Speaker 2: at every piece of tape from the players that were
- 38:47Speaker 2: here last year and how they performed to see, Okay,
- 38:51Speaker 2: what's going to carry over?
- 38:52Speaker 3: Good and bad?
- 38:53Speaker 2: You know, what's the good stuff that we hope continues
- 38:56Speaker 2: and what's the bad stuff we want to eliminate. Yeah,
- 38:59Speaker 2: get to know every one of these players from their
- 39:02Speaker 2: tape in the pros.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Yeah, and that'll be the position group coaches that should
- 39:06Speaker 4: know all their guys inside and out.
- 39:07Speaker 2: And I mean last year, you know, Alex van Pelt
- 39:11Speaker 2: got roundly criticized for not knowing that Marcus Jones playing
- 39:15Speaker 2: on offense. I would hope that they will know who
- 39:20Speaker 2: has who's who's done what on this team. Yeah, you know,
- 39:24Speaker 2: so all right, some reaction from Forge and Foxborough, some
- 39:28Speaker 2: emails coming in podcast at pages dot com. Tolerant Okac
- 39:32Speaker 2: loved the first episode, Mike Rabel has me ready to
- 39:35Speaker 2: run through a wall. But I was curious how much
- 39:38Speaker 2: the budget went to the twelve K camera you used
- 39:41Speaker 2: for interviews. I didn't need to see everyone's individual pores
- 39:43Speaker 2: and hair follows. I do notice that with four K
- 39:47Speaker 2: two good, like, even on my TV at home, you
- 39:51Speaker 2: can see everything. Man Like, makeup has become even more important.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:56Speaker 3: I think.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Anthony and Seattle watched it on Friday and again on Saturday.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I didn't plan to watch it twice, but man, it
- 40:05Speaker 2: was good. I was already excited when we hired Vrabel,
- 40:08Speaker 2: but now I feel like I wasn't excited enough. Side note,
- 40:12Speaker 2: our washing machine broke, so my wife and I went
- 40:15Speaker 2: shopping first Alliance store.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I walked in and what did you see?
- 40:18Speaker 2: You guessed it, speed queen. I burst out laughing immediately
- 40:22Speaker 2: and knew I had to tell you guys. I understand
- 40:24Speaker 2: now why people have been calling and emailing in to
- 40:27Speaker 2: tell you things like this, because PFW slash PU is
- 40:30Speaker 2: like a little community, and you'll be just going through
- 40:33Speaker 2: life and something from the show will come up and
- 40:36Speaker 2: you'll think, I got to tell the PU friends about this.
- 40:38Speaker 2: That's the idea you get it, Anthony, I love it.
- 40:41Speaker 2: That's why we do what we do. That's why we
- 40:43Speaker 2: do the newsletter, so we create this community.
- 40:46Speaker 3: So did he buy the Speed Queen on Red Zone.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Chat in Atlanta? Bravo, The best Pats documentary since the
- 40:59Speaker 2: last three games, Glory. Can't wait for the next episode.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Thanks for creating it. Now a question, how many of
- 41:05Speaker 2: the eleven draft picks do you see being immediate impact players?
- 41:09Speaker 2: I say at least six, which is an outstanding draft
- 41:12Speaker 2: in my opinion. Campbell, Henderson, Williams, Swinson, Barrels Ashby.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Well, no offense. But if we're gonna give the kicker
- 41:21Speaker 3: and long snapper, I agree, they'll be contributors.
- 41:25Speaker 2: I would hope, so, but like, what if they're not,
- 41:27Speaker 2: that's a waste.
- 41:28Speaker 3: So like, yeah, but they only have one long snapper
- 41:31Speaker 3: on the roster currently, so Ashby's definitely gonna a right play.
- 41:35Speaker 3: But I hear what he's saying. I think I look
- 41:38Speaker 3: those top three guys, and we saw Trevon Henderson. We
- 41:40Speaker 3: didn't get to see him at Rookie Minni Caamp. He
- 41:42Speaker 3: wasn't out there, so this was the first time and
- 41:44Speaker 3: you see just explosive, you know, compact build like I
- 41:49Speaker 3: wouldn't say he's he's not Derrick Henry, right, he's not
- 41:52Speaker 3: a massive player, but he's compact. Like you can see
- 41:55Speaker 3: like how he's uh, he's got a sturdy frame to him.
- 41:57Speaker 3: He's got good, good speed and you can tell all that.
- 42:00Speaker 3: So I was excited about what I saw from him
- 42:02Speaker 3: and Kyle Williams, like these are the types of camps
- 42:04Speaker 3: where those two guys should should shine. You know, this
- 42:08Speaker 3: is a speed camp, like this is all about passing
- 42:11Speaker 3: and space and you know guys that are fast and
- 42:14Speaker 3: have good quickness and all that kind of stuff. So
- 42:18Speaker 3: you see Kyle Williams flash, You see eft and Chisholm
- 42:20Speaker 3: flash just because he can get open right, he's quick
- 42:23Speaker 3: and agile. So I thought Travon Henderson looked the part.
- 42:27Speaker 3: I was excited about what I saw.
- 42:28Speaker 2: You know, going back to forging Fox Sport, it's interesting
- 42:30Speaker 2: because one of Paul's guys yesterday was saying, you know,
- 42:33Speaker 2: you know in the documentary you saw that they could
- 42:36Speaker 2: have got a lot of picks if they had chosen
- 42:38Speaker 2: to trade down when it was Henderson's pick. But you know,
- 42:41Speaker 2: they they they you know, they chose to take him,
- 42:44Speaker 2: And you know, I don't know about that. How many
- 42:47Speaker 2: years have we criticized them for not sticking to take
- 42:49Speaker 2: the guy, and so finally they do that when they
- 42:53Speaker 2: had a decent, you know, trade on the table and
- 42:56Speaker 2: they picked Henderson.
- 42:58Speaker 3: That's a hopefully that's a good thing. The more you
- 43:01Speaker 3: hear about Henderson and what people around the league thought
- 43:05Speaker 3: of Henderson, the more excited you get about him as
- 43:08Speaker 3: a player. I mean, this is a not only an
- 43:11Speaker 3: explosive player, you know, big play type of running back,
- 43:14Speaker 3: but also a really complete running back coming out of college.
- 43:17Speaker 3: You know, can catch passes, can pass protect, can run
- 43:21Speaker 3: like he can do it all. And a lot of
- 43:23Speaker 3: people thought that he was the second best running back
- 43:25Speaker 3: in the class behind Genty and really were extremely high
- 43:28Speaker 3: on him. So I'm with you, Fred, I'm glad that
- 43:31Speaker 3: they just stood there and took Henderson. I think, you know,
- 43:34Speaker 3: they needed that kind of dynamic playmaking ability.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Christian Chris with a T I A N right, sin,
- 43:42Speaker 2: echoing the love and appreciation Forge and Fox was receiving.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Really enjoyed at the draft room. We got our guy
- 43:48Speaker 2: stuff in particular was good. Look forward to more of
- 43:52Speaker 2: behind the scenes stuff. It's been a long time since
- 43:54Speaker 2: they felt this level of excitement and anxious anticipation in
- 43:58Speaker 2: such a positive way as we headed into a new season.
- 44:01Speaker 3: I feel that just being out there, it's like a
- 44:03Speaker 3: little taste of them training can I think I think
- 44:05Speaker 3: they feel it too. I mean, we talked to Morgan
- 44:07Speaker 3: Moses about that a little bit, and he's like, yeah,
- 44:09Speaker 3: we We've actually had multiple times where Rabels had to
- 44:12Speaker 3: been like, by pull us back in because we're going
- 44:15Speaker 3: too hard for this time of year, because everybody's so
- 44:18Speaker 3: anxious and so excited about, you know, this team and
- 44:21Speaker 3: what they've put together. But the one thing from from
- 44:24Speaker 3: Fortune Foxborough from the draft from that I thought was
- 44:27Speaker 3: really cool was I think it was Ryan Cowden who
- 44:29Speaker 3: said to Elliott or maybe it was Rabel, you know,
- 44:32Speaker 3: well do we go running back and then receiver or
- 44:35Speaker 3: did we go receiver then running back? And I just
- 44:37Speaker 3: couldn't help but laugh because like, how many times did
- 44:39Speaker 3: we have those coms? It's like, you know, we're doing
- 44:42Speaker 3: our like mock drafts right and stuff like that, because
- 44:45Speaker 3: it's exactly the same. But like that's it's was really
- 44:49Speaker 3: cool to see. Okay, yeah, like that's that's how they're
- 44:52Speaker 3: thinking too, is like do we like you know, how
- 44:54Speaker 3: if we wait on the receiver, are we going to
- 44:57Speaker 3: get our guy or are we not? You know? And
- 44:59Speaker 3: it ended up being Kyle Williams and Henderson, which I
- 45:01Speaker 3: think is what they were kind of open for.
- 45:03Speaker 2: So David Maine. When Mayo was fired at the end
- 45:06Speaker 2: of the season, initially I was relieved. However, my second
- 45:10Speaker 2: reaction was, damn no Hard Knocks this year. But Forge
- 45:13Speaker 2: and Foxboro was even better than Hard Knocks. Great work
- 45:16Speaker 2: by all involved. Two questions, how many episodes are you doing?
- 45:21Speaker 2: We're definitely going to do a second episode. It'll be
- 45:24Speaker 2: coming out. I don't want to give out when yet,
- 45:27Speaker 2: but they'll definitely be at least another episode, and we
- 45:31Speaker 2: hope more. As long as Mike Rabel and staff allow
- 45:35Speaker 2: us access, we'll keep pumping out the content.
- 45:38Speaker 3: So you know, hopefully we're doing it right.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Up to you.
- 45:41Speaker 3: I mean, hopefully we're doing one.
- 45:42Speaker 4: Behind the scenes of joint practices with the commanders here
- 45:45Speaker 4: and going to Minnesota. Yeah, you know, the little nuggets
- 45:49Speaker 4: there they've abel revealed, but that to me is the
- 45:52Speaker 4: best stuff behind the scenes of like this is all
- 45:55Speaker 4: teaching and slow paced in the off season, which I like.
- 45:58Speaker 4: I think doing this job as I have now you
- 46:00Speaker 4: go from that on season mode in season mode too.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Then all right, and I get to.
- 46:04Speaker 4: Watch some prospects and next week we get to watch
- 46:07Speaker 4: an OT practice and it's a little slower. But once
- 46:10Speaker 4: the training camp starts and things start happening, injuries and competition,
- 46:14Speaker 4: and you know, that's when it gets really serious. I
- 46:17Speaker 4: think those episodes, if we're able to to them.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Will be amazing.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Jeff and Canada really enjoyed it. He says, I'd like
- 46:22Speaker 2: to get it on record early that we have no
- 46:24Speaker 2: clue if Drake May is a franchise quarterback yet it's
- 46:28Speaker 2: still completely undetermined. However, the media team and most fans
- 46:32Speaker 2: have declared it, and I worry that is undue pressure.
- 46:36Speaker 3: I think that's unfair. I do. I don't think a
- 46:38Speaker 3: lot of people, maybe fans, but fans are allowed to
- 46:42Speaker 3: be excited, and that's that's what fandom's all about. You're
- 46:46Speaker 3: defending your guy or excited about your guy. I don't
- 46:49Speaker 3: feel like on this show we've we've crowned him yet
- 46:52Speaker 3: as the franchise quarterback.
- 46:53Speaker 2: I don't think so either, But remember he was the
- 46:57Speaker 2: third overall pick.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Yeah, like he'd better be yeah right, it's gonna be
- 47:01Speaker 3: disappointing if he's Yeah, I mean yes, is that pressure.
- 47:05Speaker 2: It absolutely is, and it's pressure that he's gonna have
- 47:07Speaker 2: to bear. But we're all counting on him to be
- 47:11Speaker 2: the franchise quarterback. This isn't a fifth round pick that
- 47:14Speaker 2: we're hoping. You know, this was the third overall pick
- 47:18Speaker 2: and many people thought he was you know, coming out,
- 47:22Speaker 2: was as good as Jaden Daniels.
- 47:23Speaker 4: So I mean, well, I mean even look at like
- 47:25Speaker 4: I just for me, I want to see it happen
- 47:28Speaker 4: and not like stuff it into a box and make
- 47:30Speaker 4: like a moment from last season that wasn't all that
- 47:32Speaker 4: great as like, well, that's when I knew, like, you
- 47:35Speaker 4: don't you want to let Drake earn that moment and
- 47:38Speaker 4: Paul let's see abou Paul is in there as he
- 47:39Speaker 4: could talk about bloods soe. But I'm just remembering, you know,
- 47:42Speaker 4: him going toe to toe with the Vikings at the
- 47:44Speaker 4: end of his second season, opening against Miami in his
- 47:47Speaker 4: third season where you know, they didn't even make the
- 47:49Speaker 4: playoffs at you know, so there was like a there
- 47:52Speaker 4: was It wasn't just he made that big game and
- 47:54Speaker 4: now he's there and now he's awesome and that you know,
- 47:57Speaker 4: it's it's it's a bumpy roll.
- 47:58Speaker 2: I'll tell you what's going to put the most pressure
- 48:00Speaker 2: on Drake May this year. It's Jade and Daniels. It's
- 48:03Speaker 2: what he did coming out his first year to absolutely
- 48:06Speaker 2: flip the Commander's season from one to another, from being
- 48:11Speaker 2: where we were to then playoff teams. You know, that's
- 48:15Speaker 2: how people, well the Commanders did it.
- 48:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and a lot of people look at the Patriots
- 48:19Speaker 4: off season this season and compare it to similar things
- 48:21Speaker 4: that the Commanders did last year.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Yeah, you're also going to get Jaden Daniels.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Right here in the building in the second week of August,
- 48:27Speaker 4: so you know that'll that'll spur some talk as well.
- 48:30Speaker 3: But the blood Cell, like bringing up bloodste I think
- 48:33Speaker 3: is good because you fan that are that are on
- 48:37Speaker 3: the younger side of things, Like we know Tom Brady
- 48:40Speaker 3: and no one's ever going to be Tom Brady again, right,
- 48:42Speaker 3: like we all can know expectations easily say that, and
- 48:46Speaker 3: just no one's gonna be as good as him ever,
- 48:48Speaker 3: And so like the one quarterback that you know, I
- 48:50Speaker 3: really know as like the starting quarterback of the Patriots
- 48:53Speaker 3: is Brady. But the more realistic path for Drake May,
- 48:56Speaker 3: in terms of ceiling and stuff like that, is probably
- 48:59Speaker 3: more closer to Blood sell right, who was a good
- 49:02Speaker 3: quarterback but wasn't the greatest quarterback of all time. And
- 49:05Speaker 3: I think that somewhere in those expectations we have to
- 49:08Speaker 3: find a middle ground. Like Drake May could be a
- 49:11Speaker 3: really good quarterback for you know, five to ten years,
- 49:13Speaker 3: like Drew Bledsoe was, but that doesn't make him, you
- 49:16Speaker 3: know that he's not gonna be Tom Brady, right, So
- 49:19Speaker 3: that's what I'm hoping for. Can he you know, franchise
- 49:22Speaker 3: quarterbacks thrown around a lot? Like, I just want him
- 49:24Speaker 3: to be the starting quarterback for the Patriots for a
- 49:27Speaker 3: long time and have us not question who the quarterback is.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Does that mean he's a franchise quarterback or an elite quarterback?
- 49:33Speaker 3: I don't know, but I think there's a lot of
- 49:36Speaker 3: guys that are like that. Like I would say, you know,
- 49:38Speaker 3: Justin Herbert is a franchise quarterback. The Chargers haven't won
- 49:42Speaker 3: anything yet, r right, Yeah, you know, like Trevor Lawrence,
- 49:44Speaker 3: Fred's guy I think is a really good quarterback. They
- 49:48Speaker 3: haven't won anything, right, you know, So that that's how
- 49:50Speaker 3: the career goes for a lot of dudes that can
- 49:52Speaker 3: play that are really good. You know, Josh Allen's a
- 49:55Speaker 3: really good he still hasn't won anything, so like it
- 49:58Speaker 3: might not be Yeah, I mean, it's just all that.
- 50:01Speaker 2: But I think I think after I don't know how
- 50:03Speaker 2: many how many years has Alan been in the leaf
- 50:05Speaker 2: six years now, yeah, so I think after six years,
- 50:08Speaker 2: if we have done what the Bills have done, we'd
- 50:09Speaker 2: be like, Okay, we did get our guy.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Yeah, we just have to know we got to get
- 50:13Speaker 3: over the hump, right, the right, But that's the but
- 50:15Speaker 3: that's like the ceiling. Like that's like the that's it
- 50:19Speaker 3: working out as much as it possibly could. Like Josh
- 50:21Speaker 3: Allen's the MVP of the league, right, so like that
- 50:24Speaker 3: that's that's the ceiling. And he still hasn't won a
- 50:26Speaker 3: super Bowl. So like you know, Lamar Jackson still hasn't
- 50:29Speaker 3: won a Super Bowl. So I just think that there's
- 50:31Speaker 3: you know, we have to also adjust our expectations of
- 50:34Speaker 3: what Drake may being the franchise quarterback really is going
- 50:38Speaker 3: to look like I you know, I hear what you're saying.
- 50:40Speaker 3: I love. I love having some community the quarterback be great.
- 50:42Speaker 3: I'd also listen some community with the scheme.
- 50:44Speaker 4: Now here we are in whatever year whatever, since Josh left,
- 50:47Speaker 4: and it's I'm just I'm getting I'm getting tired of
- 50:50Speaker 4: blaming it on the scheme.
- 50:52Speaker 3: He's learning the scheme.
- 50:53Speaker 4: How's the scheme different? All the questions are about the
- 50:55Speaker 4: scheme the scheme. Like today I was ready to just
- 50:57Speaker 4: ask and be like, look, you've been in the NFL
- 50:59Speaker 4: a long time, played here a bunch of difference.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Does it matter? Does it really matter?
- 51:03Speaker 4: Like I know it's hard, you got to learn it
- 51:04Speaker 4: and all that, but like we put the whole world
- 51:06Speaker 4: on like the scheme change, and I just I wonder
- 51:08Speaker 4: in their heart of heart, like I mean, I played
- 51:10Speaker 4: hockey completely different, but just you know, like we played Zonerman,
- 51:13Speaker 4: it didn't really matter, you know. So I know those
- 51:15Speaker 4: sports aren't different, and those are completely Probably not a
- 51:18Speaker 4: great metaphor to make, but still it's like, as a player,
- 51:21Speaker 4: you're like, you guys spend so much time talking about this,
- 51:23Speaker 4: and it's like, yeah, we have to learn it.
- 51:24Speaker 2: But no, I know it sounds simple, but if you've
- 51:26Speaker 2: got a good offensive line, the scheme becomes easy, right, you.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Can execute it.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Because you can execute it, you know, if you can't
- 51:34Speaker 2: execute the scheme, it doesn't matter what the scheme is.
- 51:37Speaker 3: I'm just worried about the pressure on the quarterback in
- 51:39Speaker 3: this particular offense, and at what point do maybe they
- 51:44Speaker 3: take a little bit off of his plate and maybe
- 51:46Speaker 3: they put it, you know, on Bradberry or you know,
- 51:48Speaker 3: a veteran center in the league that started a lot
- 51:50Speaker 3: of games or something like that. Because again, it's one day,
- 51:54Speaker 3: but this is what I was a little bit concerned
- 51:57Speaker 3: about that it would look like early on that there
- 51:59Speaker 3: would be what looked like, you know, Pop Douglas said
- 52:02Speaker 3: after practice. The first one of the first picks he
- 52:05Speaker 3: threw to Gonzalez, the first one, you know, is a
- 52:09Speaker 3: they rotated the coverage. They rolled the coverage, and so
- 52:12Speaker 3: Gonzales started deep and then he rotated into the flat
- 52:15Speaker 3: and you know, Drake didn't see him coming down in
- 52:17Speaker 3: the flat and Gonzalez jumped the route. Like those types
- 52:20Speaker 3: of things to me is just like mental like you're
- 52:23Speaker 3: looking through every there's ya. I gotta set the mic
- 52:25Speaker 3: point and I got to move the protection, and now
- 52:27Speaker 3: I got to make sure this guy's in the right
- 52:29Speaker 3: place and then it's all of the maestro stuff at
- 52:31Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage. And I don't know if that's him, Like,
- 52:34Speaker 3: I don't know yet if Drake May is that kind
- 52:36Speaker 3: of quarterback, Like he might be more of like, let's
- 52:39Speaker 3: just snap the ball and I'm just gonna play right
- 52:41Speaker 3: because he's got he's so physically talented that that might
- 52:44Speaker 3: be more of what he's how he's programmed and how
- 52:47Speaker 3: he's you know, wired, is just to just go out
- 52:50Speaker 3: there and play ball, whereas this scheme can be very
- 52:54Speaker 3: very intricate, and if I had anything to be like,
- 52:57Speaker 3: come away from this practice, it's not that he's through
- 53:00Speaker 3: four picks or anything like that. It's like, how are
- 53:02Speaker 3: we going to evolve from that the McDaniel's Brady offense
- 53:07Speaker 3: to now it's with Drake May and it's a different
- 53:10Speaker 3: kind of quarterback, Like he's a different type of player
- 53:12Speaker 3: playing in his string. How are they going to find
- 53:14Speaker 3: that happy media.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Well, it's not gonna be easy, But you know what

- 55:55Speaker 3: and how he's been adapting to, you know, learning inuitial Well.
- 56:01Speaker 10: I think everybody's worked extremely hard, including Drake, uh, to
- 56:04Speaker 10: to pick up what we want to do offensively and defensively,
- 56:08Speaker 10: and now that has to start to translate onto the
- 56:10Speaker 10: practice field in a spring setting without pads, and you know,
- 56:14Speaker 10: I think that it's Uh, we're off to a good start.
- 56:16Speaker 1: I think we had a positive day.
- 56:18Speaker 10: We're able to mix some speed stuff in and some
- 56:21Speaker 10: competitive stuff to a point, Uh, kept guys off the ground,
- 56:25Speaker 10: got a bunch of looks and bunch of reps. So
- 56:28Speaker 10: I think we're off to a good start, and you know,
- 56:30Speaker 10: Drake's a part.
- 56:30Speaker 3: Of that as part of the stage.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Mike, what are the things that you look for from
- 56:34Speaker 2: your players to get better as they go about this
- 56:37Speaker 2: stage of the process.
- 56:38Speaker 10: Yeah, I think that that's probably an interesting question just
- 56:41Speaker 10: to dynamic through the spring. Is you know the offensive line.
- 56:45Speaker 10: I think you can maybe evaluate some pass protection or
- 56:49Speaker 10: somewhat footwork, but it's hard to evaluate the run game.
- 56:52Speaker 10: Defensive line, it's a difficult time of year for them.
- 56:56Speaker 10: You know, they're they're they're wired a certain way and
- 56:58Speaker 10: they want to do things that affect a quarterback and
- 57:01Speaker 10: create a new line of scrimmage and.
- 57:03Speaker 1: You have to pull them back to a sense.
- 57:05Speaker 10: This is a this is a passing camp, this is
- 57:06Speaker 10: a non contact camp and time of year. But I
- 57:10Speaker 10: think the receivers and the dbs can certainly look to
- 57:13Speaker 10: to mirror and shadow and react and you know, still
- 57:17Speaker 10: go make plays on the football and try to stay up.
- 57:19Speaker 10: It's hard to you know, maybe the running backs you
- 57:21Speaker 10: can evaluate are they picking up the right person and
- 57:23Speaker 10: protection not necessarily sure if they're going to be able.
- 57:26Speaker 1: To block them, but are they getting the right guy? Uh?
- 57:29Speaker 10: Quarterbacks, operation, the urgency in which we practice are things
- 57:33Speaker 10: that are important. Our tempo, the way that we finish plays,
- 57:38Speaker 10: our effort, and you continue to build the identity. Are
- 57:41Speaker 10: we taking care of the football when we're when we're
- 57:42Speaker 10: running with it in the open field?
- 57:44Speaker 1: Things like that.
- 57:45Speaker 10: When you mentioned not wanting to take guys to the ground,
- 57:48Speaker 10: how do you balance It's not that I would love
- 57:50Speaker 10: to take guys.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Uh, That's okay.
- 57:54Speaker 10: I'm joking, but these are the rules that everybody's just
- 57:58Speaker 10: come to live by in the National Football League, and
- 58:00Speaker 10: that's that's great. It's just explain it to the players
- 58:04Speaker 10: what it is that we have to do and what
- 58:05Speaker 10: we have to try to get accomplished.
- 58:06Speaker 1: So go ahead and finish your question.
- 58:08Speaker 4: But how do you accomplish the physicality that you want
- 58:10Speaker 4: at this stage?
- 58:10Speaker 10: I'll still making sure that I don't think that you can.
- 58:13Speaker 10: I don't I think that you could focus on pad level.
- 58:16Speaker 10: You can focus on hand placement, but that physicality is
- 58:20Speaker 10: not something that's going to be identified over the course
- 58:22Speaker 10: of the next four weeks.
- 58:25Speaker 15: With the understanding that this is obviously a non contact camping,
- 58:28Speaker 15: we're talking about not being able to get a good
- 58:29Speaker 15: sense of where maybe running backs are from a physical standpoint,
- 58:32Speaker 15: and you just talked about where maybe Rmandri is at
- 58:34Speaker 15: this stage. I know he's going through a personal thing,
- 58:36Speaker 15: but maybe the overall value that he has did this franchise.
- 58:39Speaker 1: We're extremely excited to.
- 58:42Speaker 10: Have him with us, have been in constant communication with
- 58:48Speaker 10: him and obviously our thoughts and prayers or with him
- 58:51Speaker 10: and his family as they heal and they grieve, and
- 58:54Speaker 10: you don't want to be a part of that to
- 58:56Speaker 10: help him and get to know him. And I'd met
- 58:58Speaker 10: him early on and then he went back and now
- 59:00Speaker 10: those conversations have just been over the telephone. So when
- 59:06Speaker 10: you start to evaluate just this season and you watch
- 59:09Speaker 10: the effort and that he played with when he didn't
- 59:11Speaker 10: have the football, he played extremely fast.
- 59:14Speaker 1: Without the football.
- 59:15Speaker 10: His ability to step up and protect is taking care
- 59:18Speaker 10: of a teammate, is protecting the guy with the ball.
- 59:21Speaker 10: He did that on numerous occasions. He always saw him
- 59:23Speaker 10: downfield when he didn't.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Have the ball. You know.
- 59:26Speaker 10: So he's going to be a large part of, you know,
- 59:28Speaker 10: what we do, and it'll just have to you know,
- 59:31Speaker 10: determine where he's at when when he's back here.
- 59:36Speaker 4: What constitutes a good day for you at OTA is
- 59:38Speaker 4: like what would make you happy at the end of
- 59:40Speaker 4: them today.
- 59:42Speaker 10: You know, again, I'm going to set myself up from
- 59:45Speaker 10: failure because you're going to look and read off every single.
- 59:47Speaker 1: One I say here, that that we're in and.
- 59:49Speaker 10: Out of the huddle, that there's clean substitution, that there's communication.
- 59:52Speaker 10: You hear the defense making checks when somebody on the
- 59:55Speaker 10: offense moves or motions. There there's coordination and that the
- 59:58Speaker 10: offense is moving with urgency and at the play clock
- 1:00:01Speaker 10: isn't sitting at zero for four seconds, and all the
- 1:00:06Speaker 10: operational things, and then obviously there's got to be a
- 1:00:08Speaker 10: level of execution when we're in the speed and then
- 1:00:10Speaker 10: when we get to the jog through, can we practice
- 1:00:13Speaker 10: at a tempo that's less than one hundred percent and
- 1:00:15Speaker 10: still get something out of it? Mike, what does the
- 1:00:17Speaker 10: competition truly start from traditional standpoint for guys trying to respots.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Well, I think that it already has. I hope that
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: it already has their life's of competition.
- 1:00:27Speaker 10: Everything we do every day, what we're trying to improve,
- 1:00:30Speaker 10: and we're trying to do better than the next person.
- 1:00:34Speaker 10: But whether that's a competitiveness to know what to do,
- 1:00:38Speaker 10: to be able to play more than one position, to
- 1:00:41Speaker 10: go extra reps when somebody's down, to take advantage of
- 1:00:44Speaker 10: opportunities of young guys, you know, popping in their third group.
- 1:00:49Speaker 10: You know, they do a nice job, then they get elevated,
- 1:00:51Speaker 10: they get some reps with the twos and see how
- 1:00:53Speaker 10: they do with those opportunities. So I think that there's
- 1:00:55Speaker 10: always a level of competition to what we do. It
- 1:00:58Speaker 10: just may not be as physical as what it would
- 1:01:02Speaker 10: be in training camp.
- 1:01:03Speaker 15: Like related to that question, how much evaluation is going
- 1:01:06Speaker 15: on for the coaching staff right now versus the installation
- 1:01:08Speaker 15: of the teaching that obviously you're doing the spring.
- 1:01:11Speaker 10: Well, there's certain things you have to maybe change the
- 1:01:13Speaker 10: way that you evaluate. You know, do they know their assignment,
- 1:01:17Speaker 10: can they adjust? Do they make you know, the same
- 1:01:20Speaker 10: mistake over and over? Then there's a level of you know,
- 1:01:24Speaker 10: physical ability that we have to be able to evaluate.
- 1:01:28Speaker 10: So I would say that there's still an evaluation even
- 1:01:31Speaker 10: though we don't have pads on.
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: There's been a lot of talk about the culture you're
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: building and.
- 1:01:35Speaker 14: All that just from early days of the team kind
- 1:01:37Speaker 14: of all being together. What are you noticing just from
- 1:01:40Speaker 14: them all coming together.
- 1:01:42Speaker 10: I think there's an excitement, there's an energy. I think
- 1:01:45Speaker 10: there's a willingness of players that walk in and want
- 1:01:47Speaker 10: to improve and want to get to know the new
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: players and the ones that they're familiar with from last
- 1:01:52Speaker 10: year and the coaches and everything else. So we're just
- 1:01:54Speaker 10: constantly trying to build that each and every day.
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: And we know that.
- 1:01:57Speaker 14: Stefan Diggs has been you know, dealing with last year's
- 1:01:59Speaker 14: in anyone else that we shouldn't expect to see based
- 1:02:02Speaker 14: on coming.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Back and sending from last year.
- 1:02:04Speaker 10: There'll be a group of guys that will be modified
- 1:02:07Speaker 10: today or won't be doing stuff. So, I mean, it's
- 1:02:10Speaker 10: a long list. I'm not going to go through it,
- 1:02:12Speaker 10: but there'll be a few guys. They'll be doing some
- 1:02:15Speaker 10: individual they'll be doing some return to play, may do
- 1:02:18Speaker 10: some jog through stuff at the end.
- 1:02:20Speaker 16: Like I know that, Like, how would you describe the
- 1:02:23Speaker 16: jump for running back and pass protection from the college
- 1:02:26Speaker 16: game to the NFL helpport? And are these practices for
- 1:02:31Speaker 16: Trayveon in particular as young beck, But.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: These are mental reps.
- 1:02:34Speaker 10: These are seeing things that speed until you know it's
- 1:02:37Speaker 10: full speed to contact is really what we say. So
- 1:02:39Speaker 10: we want the blitzer to go, you know, as fast
- 1:02:42Speaker 10: as he would and disguise the way he would and
- 1:02:44Speaker 10: try to time it up the way that he would,
- 1:02:46Speaker 10: and then once he gets to the player that's blocking him,
- 1:02:49Speaker 10: that that we're going to ask them to stop and
- 1:02:50Speaker 10: then you know, be ready to go and sprint out
- 1:02:53Speaker 10: of the stack and get his you know, finish his
- 1:02:56Speaker 10: play that way. So they're they're good because there's just
- 1:03:00Speaker 10: there's moving parts, there's other bodies.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: It's not just a walk through pace.
- 1:03:04Speaker 10: So I think the tempo is going to allow them
- 1:03:06Speaker 10: to identify the right person to protect and to block,
- 1:03:11Speaker 10: and then we'll see you in training camp. Physically they'll
- 1:03:16Speaker 10: be able to do it, which by all counts, I
- 1:03:18Speaker 10: think that they will.
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: Mike, I know fans get excited about it when the
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: NFL schedule comes out.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: How do you look at that from as a head coach?
- 1:03:26Speaker 10: I just make sure that we've got seventeen games, nine
- 1:03:28Speaker 10: of them are at home this year and eight of
- 1:03:29Speaker 10: them are on the road, and then we go from there.
- 1:03:32Speaker 10: We're so far from looking at opponents right now at
- 1:03:35Speaker 10: this point in the game. We're just really trying to
- 1:03:37Speaker 10: focus on ourselves, which you know, individual improvement, continue to
- 1:03:41Speaker 10: build the identity that we try to talk about, and
- 1:03:44Speaker 10: that's where my focus is today.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Finalized the joy practices with the Commanders and Bikings, yep.
- 1:03:51Speaker 10: I think that the for sure that the Washington Commanders
- 1:03:54Speaker 10: will come here and then they'll play us, and then
- 1:03:56Speaker 10: we are excited to go to Minnesota. It's a good
- 1:03:58Speaker 10: setup that they have allows for great work. Kevin's got
- 1:04:02Speaker 10: a you know, the Vikings have an excellent football team
- 1:04:05Speaker 10: and have worked with them before, so excited to go
- 1:04:07Speaker 10: back up there. Do you see the young player need
- 1:04:10Speaker 10: to see the field consistently or first team grabs consistently
- 1:04:14Speaker 10: to become the effective leader in your love, I think
- 1:04:17Speaker 10: that any player that comes here with a great attitude,
- 1:04:20Speaker 10: that knows what to do UH and plays a style
- 1:04:24Speaker 10: and with the demeanor that we expect, that does things
- 1:04:27Speaker 10: the right way, that makes great decisions, what we'll have
- 1:04:30Speaker 10: an ability to lead uh someone or have some sort
- 1:04:34Speaker 10: of UH leadership qualities, whether that's with the third group,
- 1:04:38Speaker 10: with the.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Second group, or with the first group.
- 1:04:40Speaker 10: But I don't think that a young player has to
- 1:04:42Speaker 10: be on a starting unit to be considered somewhat of
- 1:04:46Speaker 10: a leaders.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: At times then over analyzed lineups at this point the season,
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: that's fair philosophy.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: When it comes to the depth chart, is it better
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: ins and then young.
- 1:04:55Speaker 10: Guys earn it or it's just kind of what we
- 1:04:57Speaker 10: put together and somebody's got to go with eleven.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: It's to be very fluid.
- 1:05:01Speaker 10: You'll see that a lot of people are getting a
- 1:05:03Speaker 10: lot of different reps and a lot of different groupings,
- 1:05:04Speaker 10: and wide receivers will rotate out of there, and some
- 1:05:08Speaker 10: lineman will play a position and then we'll see if
- 1:05:09Speaker 10: they can move over and play another position.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: So again, you have a job to do. We have
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: a job to do.
- 1:05:17Speaker 10: We're going to try to move guys around and put
- 1:05:20Speaker 10: eleven out there every play.
- 1:05:22Speaker 15: No one will even told us a story about how
- 1:05:23Speaker 15: do you enjoy getting called out by you?
- 1:05:26Speaker 10: That's first of all, that's not being called out by me.
- 1:05:30Speaker 10: That was just an encouragement. No, it was, uh, you know,
- 1:05:34Speaker 10: if you have the ability to do something, I think
- 1:05:36Speaker 10: you should try to maximize that ability. And I think
- 1:05:40Speaker 10: it sends a great message to the team where we're
- 1:05:42Speaker 10: going to need our best players to play good every
- 1:05:45Speaker 10: week for us to win. And that's just another example of,
- 1:05:49Speaker 10: you know, the leadership and when one guy I found
- 1:05:52Speaker 10: when one guy runs fast and another guys tend to
- 1:05:54Speaker 10: run fast, and then the next you know, the more
- 1:05:56Speaker 10: and more you you see, you got a bunch of
- 1:05:58Speaker 10: guys trying to push each other and compete.
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: That's what we're trying to do with specifically, what are
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: you looking forcus, it's a very full room at the moment.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: What are you looking for specifically with them?
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: In these early days well as far.
- 1:06:09Speaker 10: I think that when you say things like it's a
- 1:06:11Speaker 10: full room, I would say that thirty one other teams,
- 1:06:14Speaker 10: that's okay with thirty one other teams are going to
- 1:06:16Speaker 10: have eleven or twelve wide receivers at this point in time,
- 1:06:19Speaker 10: So everybody's room is full.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: There's eleven or twelve.
- 1:06:23Speaker 10: I would say that the players that aren't available need
- 1:06:26Speaker 10: to make sure that they're doing everything they can to
- 1:06:28Speaker 10: stay up mentally and continue.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: To work hard to get back.
- 1:06:32Speaker 10: The young players that are coming onto this roster have
- 1:06:35Speaker 10: to earn a role, and the ones that are returning
- 1:06:38Speaker 10: have a clean slate to go and compete, and whether
- 1:06:42Speaker 10: that's a carryover position from last.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: Year or a new position.
- 1:06:45Speaker 10: So we're very early on in the process, but we
- 1:06:47Speaker 10: need that group to compete and have a willingness to
- 1:06:53Speaker 10: go out there and help the quarterback through this spring process.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: Thank you, and now great moments in.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: History.
- 1:07:04Speaker 17: I miss Gardis smell. That's one of the things that's
- 1:07:07Speaker 17: about twenty twelve. Way, Yeah, GARTI smells really good. Paul,
- 1:07:11Speaker 17: back me up on this.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: What are you a dog? He smells wonderful. There's around
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: sniffing people.
- 1:07:15Speaker 17: Thank you, Paul.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: Sound like a fresh summer day tomorrow show opening unfolding
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: right before our eyes.
- 1:07:22Speaker 17: He smells great. I miss it.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: Okay, it is what it is. You know what was
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: his cologne of choice? You know you ever have?
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: He smells so good.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: He's it's like product.
- 1:07:35Speaker 17: He's just like if I told you, I'd have to
- 1:07:36Speaker 17: kill you because everyone knows how good he smells. I
- 1:07:39Speaker 17: don't miss Gardi as much as I missed the smell of.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Oh did Yeah? We could bottle that g That's another
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: great moment from.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered Podcasts at Patriots
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: dot com is the way to email us eight five
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: five Pats five hundred is the way to call us
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Dan and Virginia and Michigan emails. He says, I'm not
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: too worried about May having some issues on the second
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: day of OTAs. Didn't the defense always have an edge
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: early in the off season even when Brady was here?
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: Also speaking of Mike Giardi, just according to Dan, he's
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: apparently running a school for sports journalism.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: Do you know this Trump's school?
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Now?
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: I didn't know that.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: Chris Catillo does it. The Red Sox be writer, he
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: does one so is it online thing that you signed
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: up a seminar. It's like a webinar and it's it's
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: pretty cool. I mean I didn't have to do it.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: Okay here, but do you know if his course includes
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: the correct pronunciation of a slip disc and how to
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: be the best smelling man in England sports journalism, at
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: least according to Megan O'Brien, which we just heard.
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: You know, Brian had some takes. I can't play that.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: But so he's running a school for journalists.
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: That's a Paul didn't signed me up for it.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so is it actually accredited? Do you get No,
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: I don't know. Isn't like an Adobe class now, I
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: don't know. Maybe it's part of just the University of
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: Gardi he's starting in college. But yeah, I think Chris
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: does one, like I said, And I know that people
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: he sometimes has guests like speakers, you know that are
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: people that are currently working on beats and stuff like that.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: And I think people get a lot out of it.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Oh, I'm gonna have to make fun of him.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: And I see him Jardi University.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: Guy to make some money.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Maybe they can have graduation on the field here like
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: Bridgewater State, right, you.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Know right, Bill wasn't here last week for that was he.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: No, But I was wondering if she was the commencement speaker,
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: but I guess not. Josh wrights In. Overall, the production
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: of Forge and Foxborough was awesome, really loved it. That said,
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: the draft room scenes weren't quite what I expected. It
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: came across like the entire operation flowed strictly through Rabel,
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Wolf and Cowden. I was surprised at how little process
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: or structure was shown behind the decisions. I figured to
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: be more automation or a system driven strategy involved, rather
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: than Elliott just going bee boop. I like this trade offer.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: I uh, well, I think that they are kind of
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: the guys making the decision. I understand the stuff he wants,
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: of breaking down the prospects and that kind of stuff.
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: But that to me was one of the interesting takeaways
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: that I thought maybe they'd talk on Paul shows about.
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: It's just the dynamic between Cowden and Wolf and Vrabel
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: and you see how they discuss certain ideas and picks,
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: and you know, you just you see how that relationship
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: between those three guys is developing.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: That was a really interesting part of it to me also,
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: that were like forty people in the room with laptops,
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: but none seemed actively involved. Cam Williams's only moment was basically,
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: oh this is an EP here's elliott. I think there
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: was room to show more of the decision making process
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: without revealing too much of how the sausage gets made,
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: just enough to give fans a sense of the complexity
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: behind the scenes.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: Well, I mean, fair enough what he's saying, But all
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: that work has done before draft day. I mean, you know,
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: like they say, the Hayes in the barn once the
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: draft comes. And one thing you didn't see is the
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: boards around the room, because that's where some of the
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: detail is, where that you know, your board is stacked
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: and you can see, okay, who's left, how of those
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: people that are left?
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: Who are the guys that you like? You know?
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: So, yeah, we didn't get to see all of that
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: and the stuff leading up to the draft, where you know,
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: scouts are really you know, making the case for their guys,
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: which I'm sure must happen.
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I thought, I thought maybe a little
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: constructive criticism for the now Denver Broncos came Winnams, But
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: I thought like his phone cadence was off, like these
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: draft picks are dying to get the bat phone to
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: ring right, Like they all have the special phone and
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: they'd be like hello, and he'd be like hello, yeah, Hey,
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: how are you, Kyle?
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: How are you? The guys are dying to know what
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: team's calling. I'm like, He's like, it's came Wins from
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: the Patriots.
- 1:11:58Speaker 17: Like there you go.
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: You gotta get right to it. You gotta be like,
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: cam it's the Patriots, we're taking you. Here's Ellie Wolf.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: I get right well.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: Elliott's first words to Will Campbell's what'd you have for dinner?
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: I like, the kid is like about to combust. They're stress.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: Was crying on stage, how are you? What's going on? Nothing? No,
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: we're just never drafted. You, by the way, ready to go?
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: Are you ready to go? Did you mention from today?
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: The Will Campbell and Morgan Moses, those two are and always.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Just was just watching that when he told me that,
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: I said, I need a moment I need.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: Morgan Moses was holding court after practice with it started
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: just with him and Will Campbell and Will Campbell's like
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: you people came over. Yeah. Will Campbell's like in his
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: past set, Morgan Moses is acting like the pass rusher,
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: and Campbell's like, you know, talking true things. And then
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: Kate and Wallace came over and kan Wallace just standing
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: there watching Morgan Moses listening, and then Marcus Marcus Bryant
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: their seventh round pick at tackle, he starts to come
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: on and then all of them are kind of like
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: their tackles, you know, like he's throwing.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: He's feeding the mass with you know, two loaves of
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: bread and a fish.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: He's got this party in the red seat right, He's
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: like throwing his long arm and he's trying to teach
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: him and he's doing this and Trey Jacobs was over
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: there for a minute, and but him and Will Campbell
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: were out there for a solid ten to fifteen minutes
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: after practice, gone through a drill, you know, going through
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: the motions of you know, past protection and things like that.
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: But we talked to Morian Moses about it afterwards and
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: he's like, I know my role, like I you know
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: that that's a big part of why you know, I'm
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: still in the league and why I'm here.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: He's already paid for himself that that one session.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I totally believe it we happened. Did we
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: happen to have any cameras?
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: Though?
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: You know, I saw Cassidy she wasn't getting in.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: There, but she you think we had sound Maybe I
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: don't know. We got to get that out of sound we.
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: Saw we had. Adler was taking pictures of it. I
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: know that I didn't. I'm sure we have.
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: Video of Cassidy shooting it, but I.
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: Okay, baby, all right. Well, I was so impressed with
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: Morgan when he came in here and said, oh, yeah,
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: well that's what that's why I am and you I know,
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: and then you know the potential.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: He is what needs to be said and has so
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: much experience and every word that that guy says.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: I just I was hanging yeah right, tell me more
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: and more than yeah be my dad. And he talked
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: about you know, he played with Trent Williams, he played
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: with Tyron Smith last year with the Jets. So he's like, look,
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: I've seen left tackles like I've seen it at the
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: highest levels.
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: It is like your like to your excitement, like we've
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: been so desperate for tackles, and then to see like
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: an experienced NFL tackle gathering around the kids and be like,
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: here's how it's done, children.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: Like I wouldn't. It's not Yoda because he's so big.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: So it's like it's like it's that type of wisdom,
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: that that sage wisdom.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Sandolph may do or do not, trim beard.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: There is no try Yeah, uh, teas in Virginia.
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: What's up, tea?
- 1:15:16Speaker 11: And I've got some real quick and then pick it off.
- 1:15:22Speaker 9: I'm not sure if you touched on it yet, but what's.
- 1:15:24Speaker 8: Your thoughts on we supposed to change the playoffs four minutes.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: And do you think.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: I like it? Let's let's go. You know there's no receding.
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: Is that correct? How how would it go? I didn't. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: they received they would they would receive the second round,
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: I believe, but it wouldn't be the top four divisions.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: So you still make the playoffs by winning your division,
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: but it would be seated by the records by Yeah,
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: I think that. I think that makes sense.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: So there's no guarantee of a home playoff win if
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: you win your division.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean that's it's you want the best
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: teams to have the advantage, teams that earn in not
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: just because oh you happen to be in the AFC
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: South and you want this year and you were you know,
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: seven and ten or whatever.
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, obviously the Lions in Minnesota last year. The
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: reason why this is happening, and I get it, I
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: mean I the one thing I would say is like,
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: it's still kind of cool that division football matters in
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: the NFL because all the other leagues, I mean, I
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: guess hockey it kind of matters again now like with
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: the the different like subconferences that they have. But like,
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: I don't want it to become basketball where like there's
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: no divisions, right Like I like it. So you like
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: the rivalry. I like the rivalries. I like that you
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: you know, you play everybody twice a year. I think
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: that is still good and has like value. And if
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: you're going to make the schedule more importantly, like if
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: the schedule is going to be structured this way, then
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: winning the division has to mean something like you can't
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: play everybody within your division twice a year, and then
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: it you're throwing out anything with the division, right Like,
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: if you're going to structure the schedule, otherwise you have
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: to go to like a rolling schedule where you pay everybody,
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: you know equal y or you rotate a lot of travel.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but they you know, I guess that was brought
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: up the last owners being they tabled it. They're going
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: to hopefully vote on it this this one. They're also
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: going to vote on eliminating assisting another players pushes.
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: The push up. It's going back the rule proposal would
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: go back to the way the rule was previously written
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: up until like two thousand and five. I think where
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: you can't you can't assist another player, can't push or
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: pull another player.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Right, And then there was one other There's a lot
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: of things, but there was one other one that was,
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: uh three things that were kind of notable.
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: The other big one was the Olympics.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, allowing these guys to play in flat football in
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: the Olympic in twenty eight Can you indulge me for
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: a second? Sure, So I I understand the whole push
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: for flat football with the league. You know, it's a
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: good way to get kids that don't necessarily want to
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: play tackle get involved in in a game that involves
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: a football. But it is a false It's it's inaccurate
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: to say that by playing flag football you're learning football.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: It's it's not football. It's a totally different game. Like
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: I said, the fact that you have a line of
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: scrimmage and a football, it's it's not football. And I
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: don't think the numbers suggest that there is like a
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: gateway from flag football to tackle football. And the league
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: needs to address the fact that participation in tackle football
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: is going down. Flag football is not the way to
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: do it. It's it's too show the benefits of tackle football.
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: Like how it's helped young men.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: And you know, I do this coaches clinic every year,
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: and you know, they give awards to kids and you
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: know some of these kids, like you look at them,
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: they don't look like football players, but what they learned
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: from being on a football team is going to help
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: them in life.
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: And football is.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: One you know, like I know, you'll stick up for hockey,
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: but the nature of a football team, with all the
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: varied positions and types of players that you need, sizes
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: and shapes and everything, there is a role for everybody
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: on a football team. And it's a hard sport, like
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: and you learn a lot from football, and I think
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: the league needs to start promoting that at the youth level,
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Like you get this from playing tackle football.
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: And I know the whole health thing.
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: But tackle football is more safe than it ever has been,
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: you know, because of all the rules changes and helmets
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: and all that stuff. Start promoting what the good stuff
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: about tackle football instead of falling back to flag football.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: That's not going to help participation in tackle football, and
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: that's desperately needed because the talent pool is dwindling and international.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: You might help a little twenty years from now, it's
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: not gonna help ten years from now. We got to
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: get more kids playing tackle football, and flat football is
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: not the way to do it. That's just my soapbox
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: on the step you're stepping off right now.
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: I feel like you're stepping up in defensive kids kind
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: of like me when I was a kid, the fat kids, right,
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: because there's always sports that you can run fast. You
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: want to play flag football, right, you're good, But like you,
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: I mean, that's what I love about football.
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: That makes it unique.
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: Like you said, there's all different body types required and
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: everyone can have it.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: Most places, it's a no cut sport. In high school,
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: you come out, you're on the team. We'll find something
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: for you to do. We'll find something for you to do,
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: and you'll be part of this team. And if you
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: stick with it, you're gonna learn a lot. And you know,
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: some of these you know, these coaches, they're you know,
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: great people, and they're doing it after work. They're they're volunteering,
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: and you know, you know, I don't want to diminish
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: all the other sports, but there's just something more to football.
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: Planning of it, the coaching that's required, the different coaches
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: that you need, it's it's you know, it's I think
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: it's the best team sport ever created.
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: Me too.
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: I mean there's I mean, it's got everything. There's pace,
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: there's violence, there's you know, I can get it. Not
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: to get like philosophical, but it embodies the human experience.
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: And I mean, I think so many kids who play
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: high school football or really any sport, but I mean
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: specifically football because it is a little bit harder.
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: Those lessons you learned from the challenges, it's so important.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: I mean, and being able to play through injuries and
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: to you know, I'm going through it now with my
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: kids and they're playing high school sports and you know,
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: learning about getting you know, not getting enough playing time
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: or you know, thinking that you should have something you don't,
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: and I mean, I think all those things are great
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: for sports, but there is something unique about football sure.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: And you know, listen, my kid wouldn't have gone to
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: college had it not been for lacrosse. But I remember
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: when he went out for Pop Warner, and I remember
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: those first couple of practices in the summer. He came
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: back and I don't know if I want to do this.
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: And I sat him down and I said, you don't
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: have to, but if you stick with this, you're going
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: to see You're going to see what it can do
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: for you. And he did, you know, and he did,
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: and he was glad he did. There's just a structure
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: to football that for a lot of kids, they need
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: that structure.
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: And there's tens.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: Of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of young men,
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: young boys, that this sport has helped and the league
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: needs to do a better job getting that out there.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: And whether it's creating a network of people that parents
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: can talk to when they're trying to decide to let
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: their kids play tackle football, you know, not just coaches,
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: but like former NFL alumni that live in your area
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: have a network of people that they can talk to,
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: you know, go to the schools, talk about the benefits
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: of football and we need to do a better job
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: in the NFL going on offense for football.
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: I think you're I don't want a hard dose of
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: truth for the NFL, because I agree with you in
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: the fact that do we really think that flag is
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: going to become a feeder system for tacking.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: It's not.
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: Maybe for a couple of kids who can run and
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: play receiver and avoid getting hit for a couple of
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: years and then they get in and all right now,
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: but the rest of the.
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: Game is entirely different.
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: And I mean just experience my son, who, by the way,
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: have five touchdowns in flag football, but went into the
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: lacrosse and now it's like gets his bell wrong and
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: you realize there's a completely different world of flag football
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: and tackle football. I mean, there's just non contact sports
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: and contact sports in general, right, but there's no way
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: to simulate what real football is with.
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: No I do think it has helped, though, like the
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: passing game sophistication and.
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: What is that like off field seven on seven camps
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: or is that specifically flag football.
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: I think it's probably both. But I the receivers that
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: are coming into the league specifically, their level of skill
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: is so much higher. I think I mean, every single
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: year there were the talent pool at wide receiver is
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: just off the charts, and I think a lot of
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: that does have to do with the fact that they
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: are playing year round, even if it's not tackle football,
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: just learning you know how to catch, learning how to
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: run routes, learning you know how to in the open field,
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: you know how to avoid people in the open field.
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: Like I hear what you're saying in terms of it
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: not being the same, because it's not. But there we
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: have seen, you know, quarterbacks get better, receivers get better
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: as a result, like I.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: Because they're playing, like you said, they're doing it year right, you.
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: Know that's the biggest thing. Yeah, but you know nowadays,
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: like the talent in the draft that wide receiver every
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: single year is just it's incredible. But keep it going,
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: like we can't find tackles anymore, you.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: Know, Like right, that is that part of it, you know,
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: and listen participations going down. That's a fact. So we
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: need to reverse that. We need to reverse it.
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: I mean, I said, look, when I was in California,
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: lacrosse was eating into football too, Like Relifornia, that was
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: almost ten years ago.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Now that's good sport all right, let's get back to
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: your calls on the hot line. Eight five five pass
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: five hundred. Todd's in North Carolina.
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: What's up, Todd?
- 1:25:09Speaker 11: Not much, said Braskin.
- 1:25:11Speaker 9: I've got one question, but before I ask it, i
- 1:25:14Speaker 9: just want to say forged in Boxborough, simply amazing.
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: Thank you, and your energy today is great.
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: Well listen our first day of OTA, so we're ready
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: to go.
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: Plus not here rain On yeah, yeah, yeah, they were
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: okay here.
- 1:25:31Speaker 9: This is a.
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: Cattle show.
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: And he says that the secret weapon on defense is
- 1:25:39Speaker 9: going to be white.
- 1:25:40Speaker 11: Now, I want to know if you guys have a
- 1:25:42Speaker 11: favorite or a secret weapon for this upcoming year, and
- 1:25:45Speaker 11: if it's not white, who is it?
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: Thus, Okay, thanks, that's a good question. Key On White
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: involved today and you can see how what they kind
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: of have planned for him. I don't know if it's
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: my secret weapon, but I think my crush this year
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: is going to be Robertsplaine, for he.
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: Took the woods out of my mouth some speed.
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: At the I mean I just saw him run out
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: of the tunnel today and like we've seen him, we had.
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: Him on I know we didn't get him on the show.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: We met him and talk to you.
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: We need him though, But all of a sudden, the
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: helmet comes on, the blood, the shield, he just like
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: sprints onto the field faster than anyone I've ever seen.
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: I mean, he's just a high, high energy guy at
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: at my favorite position, linebacker, And now I'm excited.
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: That's positive energy. I know he's a secret weapon, but
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: I don't know if I would more call him an
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: X factor, Like if he, like if Keon White realizes
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: his potential and and evolves into another stud with Barmore
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: and Milton Williams on the defensive line, now you're really
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: got something watch out. But it could also go the
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: other way, and he could and he could just be
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: this for the rest, you know, a good not great
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: player for the rest of his career. So he looks
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: the part.
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: I mean, if you stand him next to Barmore, Milton
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: Williams and you know Harold Landry and you know Chase
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: On those guys that are they're playing along the line
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: of scrimmage, I mean they they look they got.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: A legit front front front group. Yeah. I mean, there's
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: a lot of moving parts on offense, but first rapid
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: team drills, it's those four guys across, you know, Landry Williams,
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: bar More and Kean White, and you're like, all right,
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: here we go, Arn Davis Konzo on the outside.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: We talk about all these guys at such length that
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: it's hard to have a secret weapon on this show, right,
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: you know, because we're covering everybody.
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, yeah, I mean I think the secret
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: weapon might be as camp goes along and you realize
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: that somebody is going to have a little bit more
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: of a role, like you know, Craig Woodson, just throw
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: it out. You know, he's gonna be like, you know,
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: somebody's gonna that you're not expecting is really coming on
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: and might have.
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: A role somewhere.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: Yeah, Sean's and Vancouver. What's up, Sean.
- 1:27:41Speaker 11: I want to help that caller earlier who was going
- 1:27:44Speaker 11: on about Polk when it eased his concerns a little bit.
- 1:27:48Speaker 8: Right now in May, I see Polk at like seventh
- 1:27:52Speaker 8: on the wide receiver depth chart. You have dig yeah Douglas,
- 1:27:57Speaker 8: than you have Williams.
- 1:27:58Speaker 15: You have that.
- 1:28:02Speaker 9: What's the pre agent?
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: I'm not helping you, Sean. You got Booby and Born
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: so that's like six and now it's five.
- 1:28:09Speaker 7: Dick is on people to start the year is an
- 1:28:13Speaker 7: easier path, but there's no guarantees that he makes the team.
- 1:28:16Speaker 8: He's gonna really have to show something on the field
- 1:28:18Speaker 8: and he's gonna have to prove himself.
- 1:28:20Speaker 11: So if if.
- 1:28:22Speaker 9: Pulk and Baker are on this team, it shows that
- 1:28:25Speaker 9: they made a huge year two jump.
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: And that's what I see it fair enough.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: I think that's fair bring my death. If they make
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: the team, that means they have earned it.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: Yeah. I do worry about Jalen Polk though, because he
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: was fine in camp last year and then it just
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: completely unrallied for him in the season. So like for
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: people that have been here, you know, like Elliot Wolf,
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: like does he look at it and say, well, like
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: let's pump the brakes like he did this last summer too,
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: and then we got into the season and it didn't
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: look the same. So that's the part that I think
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: is tricky with Polk in particular, is that he did
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: put together a pretty good rookie training camp and he
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: looked the part and it looked like he was going
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: to have a role and all that kind of stuff,
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: And to like you said earlier, he doesn't get his
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: foot in bounds against Miami early on in the season,
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: and that was sort of it.
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: Yeah, so he started thinking and dropping and it just
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: I don't know, it just and I don't think he
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: was getting the support he needed, maybe the tough love
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: that he needed.
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: I mean, I'm surprised they didn't mention Baker too, because
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: I feel like there are probably more people on the
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: Baker hype train, even though they probably did. Both did
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: nothing last year really when they boil it down. But
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: I I don't know. We'll see how he how he
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: comes through. I think it's a good piece to have.
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: I still like him, I still like the player. I
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: just hope that Josh McDaniels is able to put him
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: in position to be successful this year and build his confidence.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: Kendall's in North Carolina and Kendall on the field, can't
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: make the club from the top. Kendall there, kend oh
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: there you are. Hey.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I wanted to ask y'all what did y'all see out
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: of Kendrick Born today?
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, both of them were active.
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: I mean, thanks Kendall. One caught some passes. I mean
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: they you know, yeah, he looks healthy.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: He's good.
- 1:30:03Speaker 4: Good to see him back out there, and you know
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: fully participant in you know, Chisholm. You talked a little
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: bit about him, but he was he was around me.
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean aftin Chisholm looks exactly like every other
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: slot receiver I've ever seen in a Patriots training camp
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: so far, uh, you know, from Riley mccarren to Austin
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: Carr to Gunner ol Chefsky to Braxton Barrios to keep
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: you know whoever. I mean, he got open, He gets open,
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: There's no doubt about that. Now he's running a lot
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: with Josh Dobbs and sort of the second unit today,
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: So I want to see it against you know, Carlton Davis, Gonzalez,
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: Marcus Jones, like you know, some of the top corners
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: that they have here. But if he's uh, you know,
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: he's got that just good knack of you know, kind
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: of understanding how to get open and where he's supposed
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: to be and knows his sweet spots and that sort
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: of thing. He's got quickness. He's not fast, but he's quick.
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: So I think there's something there for him.
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: Did cause you question, did you clock anybody any other
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: corners involved there? Like you know, had a nice play
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: with Williams where he's kind of running with him down
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: the field.
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: Yeah, some Alex Austin in there a little bit, But
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: those four guys seem to get a lot of the
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: reps during Team Gonzales. Davis Marcus, when's our next access
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: next week? Yeah? I think next Wednesday.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, and then Monday, and then I think Mini Camp. Yeah,
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: my weeks are correct.
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: This is Jonathan from Virginia. Loved the show, been listening
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: since thirteen. Wanted to drop in and echo the terrific
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: response to Forged in Foxborough. I watched it this weekend
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: and was put at ease with the hiring.
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: Of Mike Vrabel. Very well done.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: Also, I don't live there anymore, but Traveon Henderson is
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: from the town I grew up in in Hopewell, Virginia.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: We went to the same high school a few years apart.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: Saw when he helped win the state championship that season,
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: was thinking you might fall to us. Since Judkins went
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: to the Browns and was thrilled when he did, makes
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: it super easy to root for him in the NFL.
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: Now it's a big deal in that city that he
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: made it. Saw James White talk about a little birdie
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: telling him that they're having Trey watch tape of his
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: time playing. What have you seen from him in the
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: limited amount of time that he's been on the field,
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: and does it carry those same James White vibes little
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: too soon?
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: Well, just it was only today.
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: He wasn't out at the one rookie MENI camp practice
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: that we got to see.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: But Evan laid it out. Yeah, he looked quick. I
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: mean he's not the biggest guy, but but he's built. Yeah,
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: it looks balanced like good. Yeah, it's great to see
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: a thirty two running back. Thirtiness to him, good speed.
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: You know, I think he's different from James White, Like
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: I think James White was a true pass catching back,
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: you know his third down, third and six. Henderson has
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: more speed, right, Henderson's just a little bit more explosive,
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: But like, I think he's more well rounded than I know.
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: James White was good, you know, ran the ball more
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: in college. But I just don't look at them exactly
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: the same because I think Henderson's faster in a straight
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: line and not quite as quick as James White was.
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: But James White was extremely quick, but maybe not that
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: breakaway speed.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: I got a.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: Sturdy too, even though they're both small guys, Like I
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: get a little bit more of a Henderson could take
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: a little bit more of a beating if he had
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: to run early down go through that.
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: That's definitely what I mean. Look, it's one practice. I'm
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: not going to sit here and like start fitting the
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: guy for red jackets. But like, the one thing that
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: i'd always you always look for is like how does
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: he move? And like how does he carry the weight?
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: And he just looks like a built player, explosive, built
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: player that's not six', five not, huge but he's he's
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: got that compact like juice to, him WHICH i think is.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: Exciting jonathan also, says, Ps Father, FRED i have a.
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: Confession we're moving and we bought AN lg washer and
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: dryer instead of a Speed. Queen despite my impassioned speech
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: to my wife That fred knows all about food stains
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: and washing, machines it wasn't. ENOUGH i can just see this,
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: guy But fred, says but he's, like who the f?
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: Is?
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: Fred why DO i care what this guy on a podcast? Says?
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: Right, Yeah i've been thinking too much about this Father
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: fred show keeps popping into my.
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: HEAD i ACTUALLY i actually had it all worked.
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: OUT i actually have my treatment so, so but it's
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: not Father. Fred it's The Chicago. Pope So Chicago. Pope
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: so what it was is this guy was when he was,
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: young he was a police officer and he was a
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: damn good, one. Huh but there's a traumatic experience in
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: his life that he quit being a police officer became a.
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: Priest and we don't know what that traumatic thing is
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: that we're going to. Build we're gonna, learn but we don't.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Know we don't we don't know the traumatic. Experience but
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: he became as good a priest as he was a,
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: cop and he. Rose he became a bishop and a
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: cardinal and then eventually. Pope but he can never turn
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: his back On, chicago so he always goes back to
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: help them fight.
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: Crime my old, BOSSES i, think got a sailor on
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: line up bidding. MORE nbc wants it a B C, Cbs.
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: And there's there's The Hot nun right, Right, well you
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: got to have a will there and.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: His Father, fred who plays The Hot, nuns and THAT'S
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: i don't.
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: Know but it could be a spin off after a few, Years.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: Sophia it's Very. Latin i'm thinking of.
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: Just like catchphrases BECAUSE i grew, up you, know going
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: To catholic masses and would, think you, know like the you,
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: know the name of The, father you, know.
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: All the little things that could have the double. Meanings
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: of course it's a gold, mine cold. Mind what did you,
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: say man?
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: Ruler, yeah to measure to beat?
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: People, yeah some. People, now, okay now let's see how
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: you stack. Up, yeah oh my, god have you?
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: Sinned, yea WATCHING i have a lot of that.
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: Stuff you, know it's a Second so it's not for
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: the old. People your discretion is a. Right Father fred
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: is intended for mature viewing, Audience, Chicago, Pope Father fred
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: is a, character, right got to.
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: Get, wait but you know, What, Fred i'm gonna build on. This,
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: Okay so you still have connections in the police, force
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: so you, help of course from time to that's exactly,
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: right solve the.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Cases so like he's even you, know activity during his
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: ascension as Priest bishop, cardinal he was always helping the police.
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: Force that was in his.
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: Blood but something, happened we don't know that he became a, priest.
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: Right and it has to be whatever that thing, happened
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: it has to tie to the antagonist who is the
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: head of The Chicago, diary.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: That he's, Dirty he's involved in something in.
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: His life that, Said i'm going to become A, yeah so.
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: Something this sounds like an award Winning. YEAH i just
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: keep hearing forgive me, father For i've.
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: Sinned fred Bean line just puts this Like, buffalo.
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: Give me hear about my time In, tampa.
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: All, Right.
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: Daniel writes In i've heard everything About rabel's time With
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: tennessee and how it relates to what he'll bring To
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: New england as a, coach but nothing about his time
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: with The. Browns do you have any opinions or insight
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: on his time there and if it might have affected his?
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: Coaching so last, Year.
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: Yeah we talked about it and a fun, times so you,
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: KNOW i think it was.
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: UH i think it was a learning, thing, Right Kevin
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: stefanski's idea to have him work with the offense a
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: little bit and work with the offensive, line so getting
- 1:37:48Speaker 4: a little bit more rounded out in his. Coaching but
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: every TIME i See, RABEL i mean that goes back
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: even before last. YEAR i feel like that guy can't
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: get away from the offensive, Line like he just loves
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: putting that Pad on and tangling with the big, Boys
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: LIKE i just think it puts them back when he's playing.
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: Days that's what he's the most, Relatable like they're the
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: ONES i think you want to coach.
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: More, yeah you know he has a coaching point for
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: after every single play he's saying something like there's some
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: coaches that are kind of stand offish AND i you, know,
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: TODAY i don't know if it was just by, design
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: but Like josh McDaniel seemed a little like he had
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: the headset on and was relaying the plays and he
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: was kind of letting them play like he wasn't not
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: after every. Rep he wasn't going up To drake and
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: like coaching. Him But rabel was ten yards behind the.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: Play after every play he was talking to, guys you
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: know you did, this do, that and you know. Whatever
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: and we've noticed that In Rooky minichamp, Too like he's
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: as involved as any Coach i've, like maybe even more
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: involved Than bill in some. Respects he's got an opinion about. Everything, yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: Yeah so we had a lot of praise heaped on.
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: Us now some, grievances got, it this is who is?
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: This this Is jay feel forced to make this email,
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: now and there's something else that bothers. Me first, off
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: you guys are incredible. Entertainers now that the fluff is
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: over with, one the intro Says patriots unfiltered too many.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: Times please get rid of the robot. Voice the world's
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: original podcast. Works we don't need to hear it. More
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: it's a bad. Intro, two THE pu halftime or assur
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: we as it's, called is so freaking. Entertaining but the
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: music is both loud and. Distracting it's a horrible track
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: to put behind people. Talking it's just loud. Jazz please
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: fix both the track and the.
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: Volume? Okay? Done and three, okay why do we even
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: have music while they're? Talking spice it up? This LIKE
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: i asked someone here that worked FOR. Espen they can't even.
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: Answer why is it when you're WATCHING espan and you
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: get talking heads, analyzing and then they show some? Highlights
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: do they always feel they have to have the music under?
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: Bed so he's, talking there's a highlight going on and
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: there's music, Playing, like.
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: Why did they do? That do you notice? THAT i know.
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: That's, yeah they feel that they have to have music
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: playing when you're watching a. Highlight highlight package even when someone's,
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: talking and it's.
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: Hard it's hard because we get our coaching From jerry
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: and like we talk a lot about that about you
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: don't know when you're, covered, Right so like you could
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: be talking and they could be showing highlights over, you
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: and so then how you, LIKE.
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: I guess maybe the music indicates That i'm. Covered MAYBE
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: i don't, know.
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: Right that is tricky, though because like you don't know
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: you know how the editor is going to edit, you
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: and so then you have to your your delivery has
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: to change a little bit when you're covered so that
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: they can hear. You don't highlights have to have music
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: or wouldn't that seem? Weird like do you feel like
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: if you just show Maybe i'm just not picturing. It
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: but LIKE i always if.
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: No one's, talking but when there's someone talking and you've
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: got the music and then they and then, yeah SO
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: i don't know why they do, that but they all do.
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: It they all do.
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: It, Three, evan no one cares about The. Celtics you
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: make everyone upset every time you go on one of your.
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: Rants please keep doing it's. Right everybody cares.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: A.
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: Little john In La i've been loving the draft profiles
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: of the twenty twenty five draft class so much that
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: it got me thinking it would be kind of cool
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: and sneaky good way to add content to the site
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: with very little. Effort If patriots Dot com added a
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: new future by periodically revisiting old draft profiles of draft
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: picks from the, past you could do a hit and
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: miss Pairing Logan mankins And Duke, DAWSON i, guess but
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: it's probably wiser to just play the. HITS i for,
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: one would love to go back and see What paul
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: Or Eric orandy wrote about Say Julian edelman Or Teddy,
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: bruski and what insights the college coaches shared WITH pfw
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: at the earliest career moments of those. PLAYERS i would
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: also be curious to read the draft profile done On Aaron,
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: hernandez THOUGH i certainly understand Why pages Dot com might
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: prefer to leave that one in the rear. View, again
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: require too many man hours to produce and presto extra.
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: CONTENT i think we do that leading up to the
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: draft next, year like it's sort of like an appetizer
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: to the.
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: Draft, yeah you, know do you think My Dalton keene
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: one will make the? Cut or is it.
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: Could.
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: YEAH I i love doing the draft. Profiles it's one
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: of my favorite things to do because it's just, ball,
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: right just talk about these. Guys you just get to
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: talk about their their playing styles and at their you,
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: know their, journeys their football, journeys.
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: And the cons are always so excited to talk about.
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: Them they're so proud of their former. Players and, yeah
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: it's it's and it's different because we you, know we
- 1:42:34Speaker 4: cover the, Team we write about the team with a
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: little observation of that. Kind but to have just a
- 1:42:38Speaker 4: chance to interview someone and write in our, boats it's
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: fun and.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: You get to fox a different, muscle like write a
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: ton of. Features SO i DON'T i be able to
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: write something like? That is? Cool and shout Out alex And.
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: Jules yeah they. Did both also chipped in and then
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: wrote a couple of. Them so helped us get through
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: all eleven of THE i think we're done, now, RIGHT
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: i think webb minor. Published SO i think we're to
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: be minor. Published and you, know you guys have been
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: doing that fight all the way back to the paper. Days,
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: always well we do it in.
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: Writing, yeah they'd always call the coaches from college and
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: they'd have like a little, chart like a bar, chart coachability,
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: technique and they'd have they'd show you know where they
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: are on those different.
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: CATEGORIES i don't Think i've done anybody who's stuck LIKE i,
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: Had Like, MAX i remember At.
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: KING i mean there's been a lot of you guys
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: have spoiled, me And i've gotten their first round pick
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: the last three. Years SO i Did, GONZO'S i Did Drake,
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: may's so those ones have been good so. Far this
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: is gert And.
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: Belgium it's my first time writing in but after seeing
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: the first episode of fours In, FOXBOROUGH i had to
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: when the episode was, over especially the part With Will.
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: CAMPBELL i wanted to start a career In madden as
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: a left. Tackle can you have a career in Mad.
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: Yeah it's a little.
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: TEDIOUS i got goosebumps during the whole draft portion of the.
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: EPISODE i feel like we got our. Guys i'm excited
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: about the. Future can't wait till the season. BEGINS i
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: love what you guys and girls. Do listen TO pe
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: when my runs and it almost makes me Forget i'm
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: on a.
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: WORKOUT i MEAN i have kind of Like i'll have
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: to think of the, term but just like encouragement about
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: tackles right now because to see Just Will campbell out
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: there at left, Tackle moses wasn't really, participating but, yeah
- 1:44:18Speaker 4: you're still Getting Katan wallace some opportunities out there.
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: And Even Trey.
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: Jacobs SO i don't, KNOW i just it's just great
- 1:44:25Speaker 4: to look out there and be, like There's Will. Campbell
- 1:44:27Speaker 4: you spent all this like last three months thinking about this.
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: Kid is he going to be? Here and then all
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: of a, sudden he's just. There he, is he's your left. Tackles.
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: YEAH i, mean there's gonna be rookie growing paints for any,
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: player And i'm Sure Will campbell have. His but just
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: like the way he moves looks like a top ten. Pick,
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: yeah the explosiveness out of his stance and just how
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: quickly he gets into the block and the power that
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: he can generate from the ground.
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: Up and he's still a, baby, yeah relatively. Speaking he's
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: only twenty.
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: Two, yeah, well AND i think that's a good, thing
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: you know, too just their theme of last couple of.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: Years you, know you Get gonzo's only twenty, Two drake
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: may is still only twenty. Two Will campbell is young
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: and all these guys that came out as true junior, declares,
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: like you, know that's like the real premium talent when
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: you get your hand and they've been drafting highs and that's.
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: Why but like that's those types of guys are the
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: guys that are really the blue chip level talents because
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: they broke out so early in their college. Careers so
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: you see all three of these guys together, now and
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: LIKE i said, EARLIER i, Mean gonzo is the best
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: player on the field.
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: Today you know WHAT i was thinking about real quick
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: was when we Had chase on in here and he
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: talked about going Opposite Max. Crosby Is patriots Got Max
- 1:45:35Speaker 4: crosby coming here week one For Will. CAMPBELL i wonder
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: if that's going to be a matchup That.
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: Max crosby, typically, Right, yeah they switch them to go
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: after the. ROOKIE i, Mean i'd definitely be testing him
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: IF i was another. Team. Yeah.
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: Sure matthew And arizona Love forge And foxborough was wondering
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: it would be fun to do a small web. Series
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: Uh evan or whoever drives a player or coach in
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: a golf cart to and From Duncan Gillette stadium To
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: duncan as you talk to them about all things about their.
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: LIVES a good way to get to know. Everyone one on.
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: One dunkin, run you could do That dunkin Run, yeah
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: up on the.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: Thing, yeah because you'd have to take the long, Way
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: so that would be a good you, know ten to
- 1:46:20Speaker 2: fifteen minutes in the golf could be.
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: Fun Because i'm not the best golf cart.
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: Driver to add an element of danger to it THAT
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: i think would really spice it up a little bit of.
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: YOU i, mean what if what if you had a
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: driver and the two of you sit in that backseat
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: so you're facing Out duncan run and a.
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: Golf cart On route? One might be, like, no you
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: don't go on.
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: One you're going to go the long go the long
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: way and then you drive right up into dunk To.
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: Duncan, yeah and mobile order they bring it right. Out
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: So i'm gonna, say because the one and the one
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: right down the street has a drive, through so you
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: could take the golf.
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: Car we're not taking a golf cart And rule, One
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: oh my.

- 1:47:45Speaker 3: it's An irish television. Dram, yeah. Sarcastic a lot of.
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: EMAILS i was worried that when we pushed the show
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: to two that we wouldn't have the same, Audience but
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: according to the calls and, emails we'll still have the
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: same amount of. People So paul didn't tell, like he,
- 1:48:02Speaker 2: said can we do the show On? Wednesday because of.
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: Practice he didn't tell me that he wasn't going to

- 1:49:13Speaker 3: sounds like it's gonna Be Aaron. Rodgers but there.
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: Also might be a cost consideration because that might be
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: one of those upper tier. Games it's a little bit
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: more expensive than The panthers game.
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: Too, yeah that's. True they are.

- 1:53:02Speaker 4: New so it felt like kind of a pellet cleanser
- 1:53:05Speaker 4: to me after the last couple of, years where just
- 1:53:08Speaker 4: if a video could hit the reset button as far
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: as the mood around the, team that's what it felt
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: like it did for. Me and that's just you know

- 1:53:52Speaker 3: bit more than what people know of. Him you. KNOW

- 1:53:56Speaker 3: like have that sort of relationship with a. GUY i
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: don't think that's always the case.
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: HERE i almost ran up to him today because he
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: was walking off a little bit before, me and, like
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: he's just been so nice to all of, us and

- 1:54:20Speaker 4: doing a good job kind of bringing it all.
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: Together Bretton lemonster wouldn't be a show Without jaws mentioned
