- 0:00Speaker 1: Now from the Star Wintles Sports Tests, Jordan ninety three
- 0:03Speaker 1: point three KJRFM Sports Headlines. Good morning, Hi, Happy Friday,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us. Headlines are brought to you by
- 0:09Speaker 1: Frost brewed cords like choos Chill. Maren's loss again, yes again,
- 0:14Speaker 1: getting swept out of the three game series at Miami.
- 0:17Speaker 1: They got beaten by Junk last night, literally Marvin Starter
- 0:21Speaker 1: Jansen Junk, you walk four and five innings, yet the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Mariners only scored one earned run off of him. They
- 0:26Speaker 1: fell behind eight two eight four loss. Mariners made two
- 0:30Speaker 1: airs on one play to kind of personify how last
- 0:34Speaker 1: night went. It was not ideal, nor was the trip
- 0:37Speaker 1: to Miami at all. They're no longer in first place,
- 0:40Speaker 1: back to five hundred and forty seven and forty seven now.
- 0:43Speaker 1: They finished the first half, the pre All Star Game
- 0:45Speaker 1: half of the season with three games at the American
- 0:47Speaker 1: League's best team, probably the only really good team, the
- 0:50Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Rays. Luis Castillo starts the four to ten
- 0:54Speaker 1: game Our Time Today, Logan Gilbert starts at one ten
- 0:57Speaker 1: Tomorrow Saturday, and then Emerson Hancock at ten forty am
- 1:01Speaker 1: start on Sunday, and then it's the All Star break.
- 1:04Speaker 1: They are limping into to say the leaves we talked
- 1:10Speaker 1: about yesterday, and there's a new highest paid player in
- 1:12Speaker 1: the NHL. He's twenty one years old. Anaheim match Philadelphia's
- 1:15Speaker 1: wild offer of ninety million, number five years for Leo Carlson,
- 1:18Speaker 1: the twenty one year old center who made nine hundred
- 1:20Speaker 1: and fifty thousand dollars last year on his entry level.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Contract with the Bomb contract.
- 1:25Speaker 1: That's good. Yeah, that's that's a great deal. Huh. Go
- 1:28Speaker 1: from nine to fifty to eighteen mil.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I mean nine fifty fifties, all right, nine.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Fifties, all right, yeah, nine fifties, okay, But now he's
- 1:35Speaker 1: going from nine to fifty to eighteen million. World Cup
- 1:39Speaker 1: Quarterfinals today live here in ninety three point three KJRFM,
- 1:42Speaker 1: Spain in Belgium, eleven thirty pre game, the kickoff from Inglewood,
- 1:46Speaker 1: California right here in ninety three point three KJFM will
- 1:48Speaker 1: be at twelve noon, so our show will run up
- 1:50Speaker 1: until the pregame, the national pregame which I assume with
- 1:53Speaker 1: Anderson Hurston Danny Jackson again at eleven thirty on the
- 1:56Speaker 1: iHeart National Network.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yesterday we have Jackson Felts.
- 1:59Speaker 3: It's like Dana Jackson Jackson situation, the Jackson two.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Okay, yes yesterday France beat Morocco to no killing. Imbappe
- 2:09Speaker 1: just irrepressible. His twentieth goal and twenty career World Cup matches.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Seventeen of those twenty of coming the second half of
- 2:17Speaker 1: those World Cup matches, so he doesn't just do it
- 2:19Speaker 1: in when it doesn't matter. He's amazing.
- 2:22Speaker 2: He had best under pressure.
- 2:24Speaker 1: He's amazing. He missed the penalty kick like Messi the
- 2:27Speaker 1: other day did in the first half yesterday, and then
- 2:29Speaker 1: he made a shot that no keeper in the world
- 2:31Speaker 1: could have saved. It skimmed off the inside of the
- 2:34Speaker 1: far post. Just brilliance with the ball. It's just amazing
- 2:38Speaker 1: what they do with the football. Tomorrow quarterfinal doubleheader England
- 2:41Speaker 1: Norway is gonna be a great one down in Miami.
- 2:43Speaker 1: We talked a great coach to the other day that
- 2:44Speaker 1: Miami Herald about that Argentina Switzerland and Kansas City at
- 2:48Speaker 1: six pm, both two pm, six pm tomorrow. The World
- 2:51Speaker 1: Cup is live here on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Now I'm with the Friday Show. You know, usually we
- 2:55Speaker 1: talk about this, usually this is the gone fishing portion
- 2:57Speaker 1: of the NFL year. Everyone's gone. I mean the headquarters
- 3:02Speaker 1: are crickets.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I can't get a phone call back. You shouldn't any
- 3:05Speaker 3: of my friends who will work in the NFL.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Yeah, you shouldn't. This is their only six solid weeks
- 3:10Speaker 1: have gone, gone gone of the entire year. Yet the
- 3:13Speaker 1: Seahawks are making news and they've made it in three
- 3:16Speaker 1: different ways. Mike McDonald made his own news yesterday down
- 3:19Speaker 1: in Lake Tahoe in a personal manner, and we're going
- 3:21Speaker 1: to talk about that. John Schneider is apparently making moves
- 3:25Speaker 1: or let sniffing around about something that would be of
- 3:29Speaker 1: a peak interest. I don't think John sits still no,
- 3:32Speaker 1: of course he.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Is God bless you, Tracy.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Of course he was at he by the way, was
- 3:37Speaker 1: in Mike McDonald. We're at the World Cup match right
- 3:41Speaker 1: right below me at the Leland Field on Monday. John
- 3:45Speaker 1: Schneider's making an interesting potential move or maybe not, but
- 3:49Speaker 1: he's at least kicking at tires. Of course he is,
- 3:51Speaker 1: That's what he does. We'll talk about that. There are
- 3:53Speaker 1: two leading bidders reportedly emerging in the Seahawks sale process.
- 3:59Speaker 1: With there's still the possibility that someone who has not
- 4:02Speaker 1: declared him or herself will still do that. This is
- 4:07Speaker 1: a process. I can just say that.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Of course it is.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Look at the bazillions that are yes, Yes, of course
- 4:14Speaker 3: it's going to be a process. This is not going
- 4:16Speaker 3: to be cut and dry and very fast exactly.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And the motivation again for Jody Allen, Burke Hold and
- 4:21Speaker 1: the representing the Paul G. Allen Foundation the estate is
- 4:25Speaker 1: to get the maximum value they can for the philanthropic
- 4:28Speaker 1: interest of Paul Allen. That's what the will says they
- 4:30Speaker 1: should do well.
- 4:31Speaker 3: And every NFL owner wants it to be that way
- 4:34Speaker 3: for the valuation exactly.
- 4:36Speaker 1: You want the valuation of your franchise to go up
- 4:38Speaker 1: because the Seahawks would go up. It will not sell
- 4:40Speaker 1: for less than six point whatever billion, because the Washington
- 4:43Speaker 1: Commanders was six point oh five, and they will not.
- 4:46Speaker 1: The NFL will just stall the sale. If it doesn't
- 4:49Speaker 1: come in, it's going to come out at least more. Yes,
- 4:52Speaker 1: it looks like at least eight, maybe nine, maybe more
- 4:55Speaker 1: billion dollars for the Seahawks. We'll talk about that. Col
- 4:59Speaker 1: Young he talked yesterday before the game down in Miami
- 5:02Speaker 1: about not challenging that called third strike the other night
- 5:05Speaker 1: why he didn't do it. Talk about that and what
- 5:07Speaker 1: he said. Well, have an update on Julio Rodriguez's concussion status.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It's what we told you it would be at the
- 5:12Speaker 1: beginning of the week. I have something for the text
- 5:15Speaker 1: signed four nine four to five one that to come
- 5:17Speaker 1: about textan or your talk back at the juments. I
- 5:20Speaker 1: love those the iHeartRadio app. Find that little red microphone
- 5:23Speaker 1: button at the bottom and hit it and you get
- 5:25Speaker 1: thirty seconds or less. I guess seconds. You can count them.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Thirty seconds are fewer, as I would tell my U dub.
- 5:32Speaker 2: It okay journalist Greg Comes.
- 5:35Speaker 1: If you can count them, it's fewer in thirty seconds
- 5:38Speaker 1: or fewer. You can talk about what you want to
- 5:41Speaker 1: talk about. But here's the question for the text line
- 5:43Speaker 1: and the talkback line. Do the Mariners need a kick
- 5:45Speaker 1: in the ass. Let's just start there. Yeah, I think
- 5:49Speaker 1: we all know the answerment. Yes, I think it's at
- 5:52Speaker 1: this point, and I'm talking about internally inside the clubhouse.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So do they have the guy in the clubhouse now
- 5:57Speaker 1: to do that.
- 6:00Speaker 2: It's a good question.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It is a trickier question than just saying, yeah, they
- 6:03Speaker 1: need a kick it. Who's going to do that? I mean,
- 6:05Speaker 1: is Dan Wilson going to go in there and up
- 6:07Speaker 1: end a buffet table? Probably not. Can they rehire Lou
- 6:11Speaker 1: Panella for a day? That might be a good idea.
- 6:13Speaker 3: He had a lot of votes for that on the
- 6:15Speaker 3: text line yesterday, like we did like full like marble
- 6:19Speaker 3: red smoking panel.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Somebody on the text light yesterday said Lou Penello would
- 6:23Speaker 1: take the iPad out the second base and throw both
- 6:25Speaker 1: it and the base into center field, as he once
- 6:28Speaker 1: did in Cleveland.
- 6:29Speaker 2: He still has the arm. I'd welcome it.
- 6:32Speaker 1: So that's what I want to know. The Mariners need
- 6:34Speaker 1: to kick the ass. I think we're going to get
- 6:35Speaker 1: a universal yes on that, or at least most people
- 6:38Speaker 1: would agree. But then who is it? Is it col Raleigh?
- 6:43Speaker 1: I mean, he's the face of the franchise.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Well, he's a lead by example guy.
- 6:47Speaker 1: He doesn't strike me, that is what I know. And
- 6:49Speaker 1: I spent a lot of time with that team last
- 6:51Speaker 1: year at the end of the season, in their postseason run,
- 6:55Speaker 1: including in Toronto at the American League Championship Series. Is
- 6:58Speaker 1: it Julia Rodriguez. No, He's been the face of the
- 7:02Speaker 1: franchise force ever since he signed that two hundred million
- 7:04Speaker 1: dollars shiny.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I just don't think it's him.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Is it Josh Naylor?
- 7:10Speaker 2: That's who I would put my chips on.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I would say Randy and Rose Arena, but he has
- 7:16Speaker 1: been part of some of the reason of the things
- 7:18Speaker 1: you would need to go kick people's ass for. Yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 1: m a Rose Arena would do it. But I could
- 7:27Speaker 1: see guys getting chewed out by Roserina. Go, oh, wait
- 7:29Speaker 1: a minute, are you the guy that took off on
- 7:32Speaker 1: a two two calendar basis loaded not know what the
- 7:34Speaker 1: count was?
- 7:36Speaker 3: Transparent and the mistakes that you've made isn't the worst
- 7:39Speaker 3: thing ever?
- 7:40Speaker 1: That would be an accountability piece. Yeah, are you the
- 7:43Speaker 1: one that challenged two pitches when in the first fourteen
- 7:45Speaker 1: pitches of a game and lost them both?
- 7:47Speaker 3: And I would also say that though when it comes
- 7:50Speaker 3: to and then one hundred and sixty two game season,
- 7:54Speaker 3: there's no purity in the clubhouse.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Everyone has made a mistake, that's true. Yes, So who
- 8:01Speaker 2: is the.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Fire You would say pitcher? Perhaps Louis Castillo is a
- 8:04Speaker 1: very popular presence of the clubhouse. When I used to
- 8:07Speaker 1: cover ball daily basis, the pitchers are not the people
- 8:10Speaker 1: to do that because they only take the ball every
- 8:11Speaker 1: five days.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the everyday dudes.
- 8:14Speaker 1: That are grinding, playing hurt, playing day games after night games.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Those are the guys who carry the cachet for doing
- 8:21Speaker 1: this kind of thing. Do they need it now, that's
- 8:25Speaker 1: another question. We're three days before the All Star Break.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I think if you did it now, you lose some
- 8:31Speaker 1: of its effect because they're all thinking about going to
- 8:33Speaker 1: Cancun and Vegas and wherever, back to their families. Make
- 8:37Speaker 1: no mistake, they are going to play that game, those
- 8:38Speaker 1: games in Tampa this weekend Saint Petersburg technically with the
- 8:42Speaker 1: one eye toward where they're headed for the All Star
- 8:45Speaker 1: breg they absolutely will do that. Randy Rosarene is the
- 8:48Speaker 1: only one on the All Star roster from the Mariners
- 8:51Speaker 1: at least last I checked, unless there have been some
- 8:53Speaker 1: injury fillings, and everybody else will have an eye to
- 8:57Speaker 1: a manic. It's just human nature. You've been grind since February.
- 9:01Speaker 1: It's spring training. I know spring cares not a grind,
- 9:03Speaker 1: but you still have to be there all the way
- 9:05Speaker 1: through mid July. You of course, are looking forward to
- 9:08Speaker 1: and I've already made plans for where you're gonna spend
- 9:11Speaker 1: Sunday night, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. So that is human nature,
- 9:15Speaker 1: that is part of what's going on here. So do
- 9:17Speaker 1: you want to do the throwing the buffet table around?
- 9:20Speaker 1: And I mean, I'm not sure this is the time
- 9:24Speaker 1: to do it. So then you wait another week and
- 9:27Speaker 1: maybe another three games of poor play against the best
- 9:29Speaker 1: American League team, and suddenly you're three games under five hundred.
- 9:34Speaker 1: It's an interesting dynamic inside the clubhouse on what to
- 9:37Speaker 1: do about this. The one time, jessmen that I saw
- 9:40Speaker 1: the Mariners do a buck up like this, it was unforgettable.
- 9:44Speaker 1: It was a day game. I was covering for the
- 9:46Speaker 1: Associated Press. I was always out there for the AP then,
- 9:50Speaker 1: And this is in six oh seven maybe, and John
- 9:57Speaker 1: McClaren was the manager. Bill Bavesi was a mineral manager.
- 10:01Speaker 1: And Bill Bavesi, after another terrible loss on a day game,
- 10:04Speaker 1: had the players force them to sit at their lockers
- 10:08Speaker 1: in the clubhouse, sit on their chairs in their full uniform,
- 10:12Speaker 1: facing out to the clubhouse for the assembled media to
- 10:15Speaker 1: come into. Don't go into the hideaway meal room, don't
- 10:20Speaker 1: go get showers, treatment, don't go to treatment for twenty
- 10:24Speaker 1: five at the time, twenty five players sitting at their
- 10:26Speaker 1: lockers facing in and we came in and there they
- 10:29Speaker 1: weren't wearing whoa this isn't usually it's two or three
- 10:32Speaker 1: guys and they sat there. They wouldn't even allow the
- 10:38Speaker 1: equipment guys to issue towels, so they couldn't shower.
- 10:42Speaker 2: That's accountability.
- 10:44Speaker 1: And we talked and John McClaren went on this rant
- 10:47Speaker 1: that John McClaren's one of the nicest guys in the world.
- 10:49Speaker 1: He was always a deputy to lou Penela, and it
- 10:52Speaker 1: was somewhat miscast and the role as manager because he
- 10:55Speaker 1: couldn't be the crack the whip guy, but he tried
- 10:57Speaker 1: to be and it just came off as hilarious manufactured.
- 11:01Speaker 1: But the vaisy told him to publicly to the media
- 11:03Speaker 1: and then we went charging into the clubhouse and there's
- 11:05Speaker 1: twenty five dudes without talles, angry that they're being told
- 11:08Speaker 1: they have to do this. He got some crazy quotes
- 11:11Speaker 1: that day. Milton Bradley. Milton Bradley was on that TV.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Oh my god, remember him. Yeah, that's a dude, Milton Bradley.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I had a great relationship with him. But he was hilarious,
- 11:27Speaker 1: great well, he was he was off the hook in
- 11:30Speaker 1: a lot of ways, throwing bats and off the fields.
- 11:34Speaker 1: It was he was crazy and I got along. He
- 11:37Speaker 1: had some great quotes that they just basically, what the
- 11:40Speaker 1: hell is this making major league players? It backfired the team.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Actually it was bad. I think that was one of
- 11:46Speaker 1: the last things that John McLaren and then soon but
- 11:48Speaker 1: Bill Mavesey did.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Okay, So that's the extreme that we're talking about.
- 11:53Speaker 1: And it was so manufactured in staged it was not
- 11:55Speaker 1: even effective.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So yes, the players aren't going to take it seriously.
- 11:58Speaker 1: No, And I'm behind closed doors, not public, nothing like that.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I'm talking inside, take care of your own house, players
- 12:06Speaker 1: only meeting, That's what I'm talking about. Not even bringing
- 12:09Speaker 1: in the management, not even bringing in the photos, certainly
- 12:13Speaker 1: not the upstairs dudes. I'm talking who in that clubhouse
- 12:16Speaker 1: is going to just round up and kick ass? And
- 12:19Speaker 1: I don't know that I see that. And I'm again
- 12:21Speaker 1: I'm I'm a Seahawks beat writer and a talk show host.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I'm not in the clubhouse. But from being in the
- 12:28Speaker 1: clubhouse during the playoffs last year, including on the road
- 12:30Speaker 1: in Toronto in the ALCS, I got the impression I
- 12:34Speaker 1: didn't see well they were winning at the time, of course,
- 12:36Speaker 1: but Cavalley would be the closest thing because of the cachet.
- 12:41Speaker 1: But I'm not sure he would do it. I mean
- 12:44Speaker 1: maybe he would do it, I'm not sure how it
- 12:45Speaker 1: would resonate me.
- 12:46Speaker 3: I'm in their clubhouse quite frequently, and I would say
- 12:49Speaker 3: that you had mentioned Luis Castillo too, and no, a
- 12:52Speaker 3: pitcher shouldn't be that person. But he's pretty chill, like
- 12:55Speaker 3: I think it's it's very chill, like Gino Suarez was
- 12:59Speaker 3: the guy who brought the vibes.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but they were chill as well.
- 13:02Speaker 3: So if you're looking for an ass kicker, I don't
- 13:05Speaker 3: know if I see it. I'm like, you look at
- 13:09Speaker 3: the pitching staff, you look at the guys. Josh Nayler
- 13:12Speaker 3: is the closest thing that I could see being an
- 13:15Speaker 3: ass kicker.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I think so. But he's only been here for not
- 13:18Speaker 1: even a full year yet, but they gave him a
- 13:21Speaker 1: new contract, so he's definitely part.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Of the found They chose this place.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yes, he chose to come back. I think that he
- 13:28Speaker 1: and Randy Rosereina the two that came into mind immediately,
- 13:30Speaker 1: and then rest of the roster is pretty much too
- 13:32Speaker 1: young or platooning or part time Luke Rayley and Dominic
- 13:36Speaker 1: Canzone and Cole Young and Cold Emerson a JP. Crawford
- 13:40Speaker 1: certainly has the tenure.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say he has that on his
- 13:44Speaker 3: side when it comes to it. But he's also so chill,
- 13:47Speaker 3: and that is what made this team so great for
- 13:50Speaker 3: many reasons.
- 13:52Speaker 2: If you go back to last season, is because of
- 13:54Speaker 2: that calm vibe.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Right, So, chill's great until you don't need chill anymore
- 13:58Speaker 1: and you need something else.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You need some fire fire, and which about andres.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Again, A pitcher, a closer not usually the prototypical guy
- 14:09Speaker 1: to upset the apple cart and flame your teammates.
- 14:12Speaker 3: No, no, And I don't know if flaming is necessary.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Oh I think it's blowtorch time inside that clubhouse. If
- 14:19Speaker 1: I'm talking about I'm just again internally, I'm not talking
- 14:22Speaker 1: about players only meeting. Yeah, I'm not talking about benching
- 14:24Speaker 1: and none of that. I'm talking about players holding up
- 14:27Speaker 1: players to accountability.
- 14:29Speaker 3: The one thing that I take issue with when it
- 14:31Speaker 3: comes to these players only meeting is it screams desperation.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Of course, right, so can they be chill during the
- 14:40Speaker 3: All Star break and come back and be good.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And I think that's what's going to happen. Ye practically speaking,
- 14:45Speaker 1: because they have only three days until that break. It
- 14:47Speaker 1: would be really I'm not sure how effective it would
- 14:49Speaker 1: be to go into Tropacanna Field to night in the
- 14:52Speaker 1: visiting clubhouse and just start ripping dudes, and they're gonna
- 14:55Speaker 1: be like, I'm a out man, I'm going to Cancun
- 14:57Speaker 1: on Sunday night. Yeah, I mean.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Seriously, I just don't think it would stick, right right,
- 15:02Speaker 3: because anybody would.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Care You're gone in two days? Yeah right, But that
- 15:06Speaker 1: begs the question. So then when after the All Star break, well,
- 15:10Speaker 1: now you're talking a week from now. When they come home,
- 15:13Speaker 1: they play the Giants next week in a home series.
- 15:15Speaker 1: The Giants are just terrible. I mean, on top of
- 15:17Speaker 1: terrible how that season has gone down. You think the
- 15:20Speaker 1: Mariners have problems. We talked to An Killey in a
- 15:22Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago, but the Giants, they can't do
- 15:24Speaker 1: anything right now. They got Logan Webb getting taken his
- 15:29Speaker 1: social media account off of the Internet because of a
- 15:32Speaker 1: fight with a radio producer in kmb R.
- 15:35Speaker 3: That is just one of the hysterical things that I
- 15:37Speaker 3: witness in our business.
- 15:39Speaker 2: And I'm like, that is just phenomenal. I love it
- 15:41Speaker 2: so much.
- 15:42Speaker 3: And you torched as a radio producer myself, if I
- 15:46Speaker 3: got a professional athlete to torch their account and I'm
- 15:49Speaker 3: too nice to do something like that, I would be
- 15:52Speaker 3: really proud.
- 15:53Speaker 1: He may be. Before we got break a couple other notes,
- 15:57Speaker 1: and they bring up that final compute combined viewing number
- 16:01Speaker 1: for US Belgium, Fox and Telemundo was fifty point one
- 16:05Speaker 1: million viewers, Mexico and England forty six point seven million
- 16:09Speaker 1: viewers in the World Cup. Those are the most watched
- 16:11Speaker 1: non NFL sports events in the US since the nineteen
- 16:14Speaker 1: ninety four Olympics. Damn, that was Nancy Carrigan. And remember that.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Do you think I watched like seven downs.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Tonya harding Nancy Kerrigan. That's the last time so many
- 16:25Speaker 1: people watch something that wasn't the NFL nineteen ninety.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Four kirty radyear for the Olympics.
- 16:31Speaker 1: You see what the Blazers owner did yesterday? I did not.
- 16:34Speaker 2: He's also someone still owns that place.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah, the Blazers were bought by Tom Dundan, who's also
- 16:40Speaker 1: the Carolina Hurricanes.
- 16:42Speaker 2: The worst owner in sports history.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Maybe let's staying something, Donald Sterling.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Is you still on a toh okay. But there's different
- 16:50Speaker 2: reasons why people suck.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon, who was now the New
- 16:55Speaker 1: Blazers owner, he has put his he has etched on
- 16:59Speaker 1: the first line underneath Carolina Hurricanes on the new panel
- 17:03Speaker 1: of the Stanley Cup that the Hurricanes just won. Has
- 17:05Speaker 1: etched his wife and all five of his children's names
- 17:08Speaker 1: on there, even though none of them have anything to
- 17:10Speaker 1: do with any official capacity on the team. Is the
- 17:14Speaker 1: youngest is seven years old. And get this, they did that.
- 17:20Speaker 1: All the Dundon's wife and kids are on the cup.
- 17:22Speaker 1: And they omitted the longtime equipment manager who is like
- 17:26Speaker 1: a legend there his name's not on the cup.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 17:30Speaker 3: So we have Eric Kennedy here at the Seahawks is
- 17:33Speaker 3: an institution. He's an institution. And I could not see
- 17:36Speaker 3: the Seahawks.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Like the Seahawks saying, ek, you don't get a ring,
- 17:40Speaker 1: but let me give one to John Schneider's kids.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Well that's pretty bad.
- 17:44Speaker 1: That's awful. Yeah, of all the things you can say
- 17:47Speaker 1: about the New Blazer's owner, that's pretty bad.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I do understand wanting to give your family a place
- 17:54Speaker 3: in history.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Nobody has ever done this.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Right, I'm just I'm putting it alone cup.
- 18:00Speaker 1: As like it's limited space. Man, I don't just throw
- 18:02Speaker 1: chucks off the street on there.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I am aware, so I'm doing this and that. So
- 18:08Speaker 2: I do see that.
- 18:10Speaker 1: And but.
- 18:12Speaker 3: For the what went into the success of that team,
- 18:16Speaker 3: more people need to be recognized.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Not the family. Give them a replica cup or something.
- 18:21Speaker 1: They've got billions of dollars they're doing. Okay, you don't
- 18:23Speaker 1: put them on the stanley.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Yeah, as the Blazers, that's sacred. They don't treat it
- 18:27Speaker 3: like they that.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Billions, but they do. And that's how billionaires stay billionaires
- 18:32Speaker 1: by not spending money. Why is there Why are their
- 18:36Speaker 1: turf fields on NFL stadiums when they disprove they can
- 18:38Speaker 1: put in grass fields. I mean, come on, yeah, you're right.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Okay, I'm rethinking it because I wasn't aware that he
- 18:45Speaker 3: put his entire family.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Unbelievable. Unbelievable. It's a sacred, sacred chalice that people as is.
- 18:51Speaker 1: It's the most revered trophy in sports.
- 18:54Speaker 3: It's one of the only trophies I've seen besides the Heisman.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I freaked out at that as well.
- 18:59Speaker 3: But I when I saw it, I actually swooned.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And I've seen a lot of things, and that one
- 19:07Speaker 2: got me.
- 19:08Speaker 1: They have two dudes that are signed to that to
- 19:09Speaker 1: carry it with white gloves and suits.
- 19:11Speaker 2: We paid a lot of money to do that too.
- 19:14Speaker 2: That's how I found out. I was like, can I
- 19:17Speaker 2: have that job?
- 19:18Speaker 1: I would walk that thing around up next, we got
- 19:20Speaker 1: Seahawks News threefold in the middle of July. Mike McDonald
- 19:25Speaker 1: made some of it. I wrote it in News Tribune
- 19:26Speaker 1: this morning. It's last I checked the most red story
- 19:29Speaker 1: at the News Tribune dot com. We'll tell you about
- 19:31Speaker 1: it next on ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back
- 19:52Speaker 1: Greg Belt Jesson McIntyre with here as we are every weekday,
- 19:55Speaker 1: ten am to noon on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Remember the World Cup is coming up on your area,
- 20:00Speaker 1: on your airwaves here on ninety three point three.
- 20:02Speaker 2: kJ airwaves and in your area.
- 20:04Speaker 1: In your area, in your earl canal, in your ears
- 20:10Speaker 1: eleven thirty pre game show and the twelve o'clock kick
- 20:12Speaker 1: in Englewood of the World Cup quarterfinal between Spain and
- 20:15Speaker 1: the team that vanquished the Americans, Belgium in the round
- 20:19Speaker 1: of eight tomorrow doubleheader. The first one is England and
- 20:22Speaker 1: Norway from Miami at two o'clock and at six o'clock Australia.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Excuse me, Switzerland is playing Mighty Messi and the Argentinians
- 20:33Speaker 1: at six o'clock. That's tomorrow two and six on ninety
- 20:35Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM, Greg.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Do you have any skin in that game?
- 20:38Speaker 1: Uh? Uh? I think England is going to go to
- 20:40Speaker 1: the final against France.
- 20:42Speaker 3: But no I did, Okay, so I do just because
- 20:45Speaker 3: of Anders. Oh yes, yes, Argentinian wife, and I am
- 20:49Speaker 3: all Argentina from here on out now that the US
- 20:52Speaker 3: is out.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I didn't expect to be talking about the Seahawks on
- 20:55Speaker 1: July tenth, but I am because there are three different
- 20:59Speaker 1: news items in the last twenty four hours from them.
- 21:03Speaker 1: We told you yesterday about Mike McDonald. We had rareed
- 21:05Speaker 1: his comments to Dan Patrick at the Celebrity Golf tournament
- 21:08Speaker 1: in Lake Tahoe about analytics and how he uses analytics
- 21:12Speaker 1: as a support crutch but not the be all end
- 21:14Speaker 1: all and he still trusts his gut and his eyes
- 21:17Speaker 1: on the sidelines during games.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I think that's the perfect way to use analytics.
- 21:21Speaker 1: He is Dan Patrick was then dribbling out segments of
- 21:26Speaker 1: the rest of his talk with Mike McDonald, and I
- 21:29Speaker 1: was reviewing it yesterday afternoon, and I stumbled across at
- 21:32Speaker 1: the very end of this News that and writing for
- 21:35Speaker 1: the News Tribute, and this is Mike McDonald Dan Patrick yesterday.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Do you feel like you're a Super Bowl winning coach?
- 21:41Speaker 4: And I don't, like, I don't know when reality sets
- 21:43Speaker 4: in for something as big as it is and how
- 21:46Speaker 4: you're now viewed.
- 21:48Speaker 5: I'm not used to it.
- 21:49Speaker 6: It's it doesn't honestly in all I mean, I'm not
- 21:52Speaker 6: just like, it doesn't feel like it. I just because
- 21:54Speaker 6: I don't feel like I've changed.
- 21:56Speaker 4: But people will change around you, because I think you're
- 22:00Speaker 4: gotta be aware of that.
- 22:01Speaker 6: But it's it's cool to meet like people out here
- 22:03Speaker 6: and you're like that that they know who we are
- 22:05Speaker 6: and they know our team, and you know that we
- 22:07Speaker 6: affected them in like some way, which is really cool.
- 22:10Speaker 6: So that that's probably like the that's a really cool
- 22:12Speaker 6: like byproduct of it. But I don't feel any different.
- 22:15Speaker 6: You know, I still have a year and a half
- 22:16Speaker 6: old son that he doesn't know anything. I gotta make
- 22:19Speaker 6: sure his diaper's changed and he's fed and he's.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Not pissed off. He was on, we were on, I forget.
- 22:23Speaker 6: The whole was, but he came out, ran through the ropes,
- 22:26Speaker 6: grabbed my driver as we're walking down the fairway, and
- 22:29Speaker 6: then I needed it back, so I was I didn't
- 22:31Speaker 6: want to be the guy to grab it from him,
- 22:32Speaker 6: and so I think I think Steph my wife ended
- 22:34Speaker 6: up taking it from and he like you could hear
- 22:36Speaker 6: this his cry, like two holes away, just losing his mind.
- 22:41Speaker 6: I was felt bad for a second, but now it's
- 22:44Speaker 6: it's really cool to see him.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Could you change the diaper before the play clock expires?
- 22:48Speaker 5: I've gotten pretty good, really good.
- 22:50Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, it's but it's also depending on his his
- 22:53Speaker 6: like his attitude, so you need.
- 22:55Speaker 5: To bring out the baby and the diapers here we're
- 22:57Speaker 5: going to have coaches.
- 22:58Speaker 6: Is it like is it a full like we did
- 23:00Speaker 6: blow blowout or is it like is it a solid?
- 23:03Speaker 6: Is it a solid? You know how different types? You know,
- 23:06Speaker 6: you got to evaluate it.
- 23:07Speaker 4: But having that escape, how important is it when he
- 23:10Speaker 4: doesn't know anything? Yeah, and you could go home. You
- 23:13Speaker 4: don't have to answer any questions.
- 23:15Speaker 6: Well, I get to spend more than thirty minutes now,
- 23:17Speaker 6: you know with him that was that was a story
- 23:19Speaker 6: last year.
- 23:19Speaker 5: But are you a grinder that you're going to be
- 23:22Speaker 5: there all day all night? No, I can't. I I
- 23:24Speaker 5: a quality of life man.
- 23:26Speaker 6: I just like I can't I tell the team like
- 23:28Speaker 6: if I'm making decisions after nine pm, like, we'ren't trouble
- 23:31Speaker 6: you know. So and we got to work out in
- 23:34Speaker 6: in the morning with our crew and then we and
- 23:36Speaker 6: then we put in a great day's work and then
- 23:38Speaker 6: we go home.
- 23:38Speaker 5: You know.
- 23:39Speaker 6: Now, like there's a process you have to abide by
- 23:41Speaker 6: that we have to do. But to spend all the
- 23:44Speaker 6: time like with our family, this like to this off season.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Now Jack Sie's a year and a half, so you know,
- 23:48Speaker 6: he's he's got a personality and attitude and you know,
- 23:51Speaker 6: he's got some interest and we're trying to teach me
- 23:53Speaker 6: how to talk. And it's just it's a it's so
- 23:55Speaker 6: much fun right now. It's it's just it's really awesome.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Uh, congratulations, thanks for stopping and by and I'll go
- 24:02Speaker 4: back to quality of life. After talking to Dick for
- 24:04Speaker 4: meal many times about he sleep at the office, and
- 24:08Speaker 4: Tony Dungee said that Chuck Noles said go home to
- 24:11Speaker 4: your families. That was important and it is important so
- 24:16Speaker 4: quality of life, man, and being there when with your kids.
- 24:21Speaker 5: There's no substitute.
- 24:23Speaker 4: I did second shift at ESPN for fifteen years when
- 24:26Speaker 4: my kids were all born, and you miss out on
- 24:29Speaker 4: so much. Don't miss out on those little things because
- 24:33Speaker 4: you can never get them back.
- 24:34Speaker 6: I appreciate that you're an ask gone by. Really yes, yes,
- 24:38Speaker 6: we've got another on the way, so it's oh fun.
- 24:40Speaker 6: Do you know what you're having at baby girl? Kind
- 24:43Speaker 6: of December Samantha after Sam Darnold, Well you have a name,
- 24:46Speaker 6: but we'll tell her.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Yeah, that's yeah, don't tell, never ever tell. Thank you, coach, all,
- 24:51Speaker 4: thanks stopping mine.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Thanks guys.
- 24:55Speaker 1: That was Mike McDonald's Seahawks coach, super Bowl winning coach
- 24:59Speaker 1: with San Patrick at Lake Taylo yesterday at the Silbody
- 25:02Speaker 1: Golf Tournament and I was like, wait a minute. I
- 25:05Speaker 1: had to replay. I was like, wait a minute. He
- 25:07Speaker 1: just threw that in there at the end. That was news.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I hadn't seen anybody reporting that. He hadn't mentioned has
- 25:12Speaker 1: a baby baby on the way in December, will be
- 25:15Speaker 1: a daughter. They already know it's a girl. He has
- 25:18Speaker 1: his wife Stephanie already have a one and a half
- 25:20Speaker 1: year old son. He heard him alude to Jack, it's
- 25:23Speaker 1: changed him. He was football only. I mean he wanted
- 25:27Speaker 1: to talk about even off the record, even when we're
- 25:29Speaker 1: just hanging out, which you sometimes do, especially on those
- 25:32Speaker 1: joint practice and road trips like that, it was all football.
- 25:36Speaker 1: And then when Jack was born last year at Green Bay,
- 25:38Speaker 1: when we hung out with him, he was talking about
- 25:40Speaker 1: being a dad and chasing and crawling and diapers and
- 25:44Speaker 1: it changed him. It did. It is it changed every
- 25:46Speaker 1: parent when you have newborns. Now we have a second
- 25:49Speaker 1: one and a girl.
- 25:52Speaker 3: As the daughter of a football coach, I can tell
- 25:56Speaker 3: you how much that changes a man.
- 25:58Speaker 1: It does. I've twined twenty three year olds born and girl,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and the daughter does change a flight.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I mean, you guys hit the jackpot on it.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yeah. My wife tapped me on the shoulder after she
- 26:07Speaker 1: came out of it was a really hairy emergency surgery
- 26:10Speaker 1: the delivery, and Chie tapped on the shower. So what
- 26:12Speaker 1: we have? He said, we had a boy and a girl.
- 26:14Speaker 1: She tapped on the show. So thanks, we're done. We
- 26:17Speaker 1: only that's all we have ever since that. But yes,
- 26:22Speaker 1: he and Stephanie the background. Stephanie, his wife, was a
- 26:26Speaker 1: former cheerleader with the Baltimore Ravens who met McDonald and Stephanie.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Mike McDonald and his wife, Stephanie met when he his
- 26:33Speaker 1: first year as a coaching intern, the first of ten
- 26:37Speaker 1: seasons as an assistant coach for John Harbo's Baltimore Ravens. So, yeah,
- 26:40Speaker 1: he's a football nerd, but he doesn't exactly just keep
- 26:42Speaker 1: his eyes completely peeled onto the field. He's obviously had
- 26:45Speaker 1: a wondering eye for his future wife.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I think a well rounded coach is the best kind
- 26:51Speaker 3: of coach, though, you know, you can't be completely alluded
- 26:55Speaker 3: to your office and be in touch with your team.
- 26:57Speaker 1: That was a good move for him, a good career
- 27:00Speaker 1: and personal move.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Sports so young too, he's so young.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Yes, he's still on. We just turned thirty nine. So
- 27:07Speaker 1: Mike McDonald and his wife Stephanie, congratulations. Due to have
- 27:10Speaker 1: a baby, a baby girl, in December, right at the
- 27:12Speaker 1: end of the Seahawks coming season. Second child for them.
- 27:16Speaker 1: That story is up at the News Tribune dot com,
- 27:18Speaker 1: But I basically just told you the News the gist
- 27:20Speaker 1: of it.
- 27:22Speaker 3: We would like to offer a hearty congratulations. I know
- 27:24Speaker 3: you you said it, but I didn't, and I would
- 27:27Speaker 3: like to just put it out there for me because
- 27:30Speaker 3: that's awesome it is, and also, good luck coach.
- 27:33Speaker 1: It is.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It's gonna be tough.
- 27:35Speaker 1: We better hire a couple more people to take care
- 27:38Speaker 1: and help the mom. Two front runners have emerged in
- 27:41Speaker 1: the competition, the bidding competition to buy the Seahawks. According
- 27:46Speaker 1: to Front Office Sports, leading the pack is a group
- 27:50Speaker 1: that current we've talked about the groups that are known
- 27:52Speaker 1: to be bidding and the one. The two that are
- 27:55Speaker 1: leading the pack of corn to Front Office Sports are
- 27:57Speaker 1: the one that has current Celtic's minority owner Eata Mattal
- 28:00Speaker 1: from an Indian steel conglomerate family, former Celtics lead owner
- 28:07Speaker 1: Wick Grossbeck. And then the second group that submerged as
- 28:10Speaker 1: a leader is led by forty nine Ers minority investor
- 28:13Speaker 1: Van Kosha. He has Kozla has been linked to the
- 28:18Speaker 1: Seahawks since almost the very first day of this too.
- 28:21Speaker 1: He would probably he would definitely have to divest vest
- 28:24Speaker 1: his interest in the forty nine ers. These are two
- 28:27Speaker 1: out of towners. Yes. Front off of Sports says that
- 28:31Speaker 1: at least one of the two groups features at least
- 28:35Speaker 1: one former Seahawks player interesting, which immediately two players came
- 28:41Speaker 1: to mind. To me, who this could possibly be?
- 28:42Speaker 2: Oh, I want to know yours because I have one.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Who are yours? On the text line four nine four
- 28:47Speaker 1: or five one? Who do you think you now think?
- 28:50Speaker 1: Who's capable of being a minority investor in an eight
- 28:52Speaker 1: to ten billion dollar endeavor? And who would be an investor?
- 28:57Speaker 1: I think I there's one of two. One is more
- 29:02Speaker 1: likely than the other. But there's one of two four
- 29:05Speaker 1: nine four five one under the commodage text on who
- 29:07Speaker 1: you think that is? So we'll see. I will also
- 29:10Speaker 1: say this. The Front Office Sports story did allude to
- 29:13Speaker 1: the fact that there is still the possibility of a
- 29:17Speaker 1: bidder who is yet to emerge. But it hasn't he
- 29:22Speaker 1: or she has not emerged yet. I mean that goes
- 29:24Speaker 1: without saying, but that's how this stuff works. They want
- 29:29Speaker 1: to see how the bid. They have a competition of bids.
- 29:31Speaker 1: They drive up the price to see what the bids
- 29:33Speaker 1: can compete with each other. There were three initial interested
- 29:36Speaker 1: parties reportedly in this process, two have emerged as leaders.
- 29:40Speaker 1: And then if anyone wants to come at White Night
- 29:43Speaker 1: this thing and come in on a white horse. At
- 29:44Speaker 1: the end of it, they know what the price is
- 29:46Speaker 1: so they don't not bid themselves early. That's still a possibility.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Here's all I say about that.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Oh is it a billion dollar white horse?
- 29:55Speaker 1: Yes? Yes, like billions with a capital B and a
- 30:00Speaker 1: horse that's really really white and really really big.
- 30:02Speaker 3: And also the s on the end, yeah, billions, not billions.
- 30:07Speaker 1: And locally locally sown. We've talked about this before.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Too, So are we doing a big reveal on this
- 30:14Speaker 3: of who you think or No.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I'm not going to spare I've people reading between the
- 30:19Speaker 1: line know who I'm talking about. I'm not ready to
- 30:21Speaker 1: just throw it out there. And the journalist and me
- 30:23Speaker 1: does not want to report this because I don't have
- 30:25Speaker 1: it pegged. I've heard it through secondhand sources that this
- 30:28Speaker 1: is the talk around those circles.
- 30:31Speaker 2: But we'll show and the journalists that you are.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Well.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I just don't want to throw that because if I
- 30:35Speaker 1: throw it out there, then everyone's going to say Greg Bell.
- 30:36Speaker 1: The News Tribune reported this, and.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I'm not reported this is Hey weekends you can read, but.
- 30:42Speaker 1: I would get I'm telling you, people would say Greg Bell.
- 30:45Speaker 1: The News Tribune reported this I'm not going to do it.
- 30:47Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I was thinking of actually now three people because the
- 30:51Speaker 3: text line is chiming in. Yeah, but most of them
- 30:55Speaker 3: are exactly in my headspace.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Yeah. The two, I'm thinking of one that's certainly capable
- 31:01Speaker 1: of two that still has kept ties here both off
- 31:05Speaker 1: the field in business and whatnot.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Okay, third story, Yes.
- 31:10Speaker 1: The third story came this morning out of Florida. What
- 31:15Speaker 1: are we talking about? Remember I told you about Terry
- 31:17Speaker 1: On Arnold. We know the story of the starting cornerback
- 31:19Speaker 1: for the Detroit Lions who's facing felony, kidnapping and burglary
- 31:24Speaker 1: charges like life in prison bad. Yes, Well, he had
- 31:29Speaker 1: a court hearing today. His agent, Nicole Lynn, who I've
- 31:32Speaker 1: bumped into a couple of times and combines and whatnot.
- 31:36Speaker 1: She is his agent. And he's a former Alabama star
- 31:39Speaker 1: corner that everybody in the league knows and scouted. And
- 31:43Speaker 1: it's not like he's still in the third year of
- 31:45Speaker 1: his four year deal.
- 31:46Speaker 2: We know his name.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Yes, So his agent said that Ford in the court
- 31:51Speaker 1: hearing this morning, that was trying to decide whether he
- 31:54Speaker 1: was going to have a bracelet on his ankle that
- 31:57Speaker 1: will confine him to home confined. The prosecutors wanted that,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and it turns out the court, the judge said no,
- 32:04Speaker 1: we're not going to have that. So he's not having that.
- 32:06Speaker 2: So he's just out.
- 32:08Speaker 1: He's on a billion he's on a million dollar bail.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I don't know if he posted that. He's certainly able to,
- 32:13Speaker 1: but I don't know if he posted that or not.
- 32:16Speaker 1: But there was a hearing of whether I would assume
- 32:18Speaker 1: he's out or else. They wouldn't be doing the bracelet
- 32:20Speaker 1: thing right, they wouldn't even be considering it right.
- 32:22Speaker 2: So he must have pasted Jill, you're just there.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's kind of what the bars are for. So
- 32:29Speaker 1: the agent, Nicole Linn, said today in court that four
- 32:32Speaker 1: teams have reached out about signing Arnold, and he had
- 32:36Speaker 1: a visit with one of them this week. Well, guess
- 32:39Speaker 1: who one of the four teams are. She mentioned the
- 32:42Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks.
- 32:43Speaker 2: That sounds like agents speak, or it.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Sounds like John Schneider is always involved in everything.
- 32:51Speaker 3: He will pick up the phone, of course, and he
- 32:53Speaker 3: openly admits that, of course.
- 32:55Speaker 1: He wants to be in on everything. Here's a guy
- 32:57Speaker 1: who wants when he had at the height of Russ
- 33:00Speaker 1: Wilson's career with the Seahawks at the height of him
- 33:02Speaker 1: going to back to back Super Bowls, went to the
- 33:03Speaker 1: pro day of Josh Allen at Wyoming in the middle
- 33:06Speaker 1: of a snowstorm in February March. So yes, does not
- 33:10Speaker 1: surprise me at all. The presumption and innocence until guilt
- 33:15Speaker 1: applies to TENIFOL general managers too, so they have to
- 33:18Speaker 1: plan for the possibility that this He's either free to
- 33:23Speaker 1: play until the jurisprudence takes its course or what have you. Anyway,
- 33:30Speaker 1: that's how business in the NFL works. If there's a
- 33:32Speaker 1: possibility you're able to play, we're going to think about it. Now.
- 33:36Speaker 1: They have a coach who would probably take a long
- 33:38Speaker 1: look at this, because the coach, he holds a pretty
- 33:44Speaker 1: firm line on some things.
- 33:46Speaker 3: You would have to evaluate it on a professional and
- 33:49Speaker 3: a personal level, and I think that Mike McDonald is
- 33:54Speaker 3: very good in both those categories.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I might I just put it out there that it
- 33:57Speaker 1: should not be a huge surprise that John would be
- 34:01Speaker 1: at least kicking attires on what the possibility would be
- 34:03Speaker 1: or what's going on in this situation. We'll see it's
- 34:07Speaker 1: very premature to say this, but other than to say
- 34:09Speaker 1: that the agent, it's a fact. The agent in court
- 34:11Speaker 1: today said the Seahawks are one of four teams that
- 34:13Speaker 1: have contacted her client as they wait for the legal
- 34:17Speaker 1: process to unfold in Florida. Four nine four or five one.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Your feelings about that, we'll read back. I won't read well,
- 34:25Speaker 1: we'll talk about it. When do we go to do
- 34:26Speaker 1: the text. Because we've got a shortened show.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Today, we'll get to some of them and if there
- 34:31Speaker 3: are talkbacks, I will play them up next.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Cole Young talks about not challenging that strike three the
- 34:38Speaker 1: other night in Miami, the second of the three losses,
- 34:41Speaker 1: and I already mentioned. We'll talk about do the Mariners
- 34:43Speaker 1: need a kick in the ass and who in the
- 34:44Speaker 1: clubhouse might be capable of doing that. Eleven thirty the
- 34:47Speaker 1: pregame show for the World Cup quarterfinal between Spain and Belgium,
- 34:51Speaker 1: which will be on our air at twelve o'clock on
- 34:53Speaker 1: ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back, I've be Friday
- 35:30Speaker 1: to you, Greg Bell, the News Tribune, Desmond McIntyre, Live
- 35:34Speaker 1: in your airways as we are every day ten to noon.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Today it's ten to eleven thirty because we got action,
- 35:41Speaker 1: we got footy soccer. Footy is England soccer.
- 35:48Speaker 2: No, it's football, isn't it.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Footy is England soccer?
- 35:51Speaker 2: Okay? I have my sports that we don't play very
- 35:54Speaker 2: much here. Confused.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I know what Australian calls their football footy as well,
- 35:58Speaker 1: but they do the British do call.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Football they do, Okay, all right.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Wembley Stadium taught me that when the Seahawks and the
- 36:05Speaker 1: Raiders played there, you were I remember that. We were
- 36:12Speaker 1: talking about the Seahawks and the potential sale of the Seahawks.
- 36:16Speaker 1: We'll talk more about who the ex Seahawks who. We
- 36:18Speaker 1: have a pretty good idea or at least an idea
- 36:20Speaker 1: of who we think it is. Your text line is
- 36:22Speaker 1: blown up about that. Cole Young yesterday before the game,
- 36:26Speaker 1: talked to Ryan Divish and the beat writers in Miami.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Ryan Divish, of course of the Seattle Times, the Mariners
- 36:31Speaker 1: beat writer, and they went and asked, as they should have,
- 36:36Speaker 1: Cole Young, why didn't you challenge that third strike with
- 36:40Speaker 1: as the tyger and representing the tygern at the plate
- 36:43Speaker 1: in a two nothing game at the top of the
- 36:44Speaker 1: ninth in Miami. It was well off the plate and
- 36:49Speaker 1: Cole Young told Ryan Division the Times quote in the moment,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I was so upset that I didn't swing the first thing.
- 36:56Speaker 1: When he got in the locker room in the clubhouse,
- 36:59Speaker 1: he saw he picked up his phone and he had
- 37:01Speaker 1: a text. The text said, you should have challenged that.
- 37:04Speaker 1: You know who the text was from? Who his mom?
- 37:08Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. I love that he's still young enough.
- 37:11Speaker 1: The second year. What are you twenty two years old?
- 37:14Speaker 1: Second year in the league? He call, Young explained to
- 37:18Speaker 1: his mom and to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times
- 37:21Speaker 1: quote in the moment, it was like expelted. Why didn't
- 37:24Speaker 1: I take that pitch right down the middle? It looked
- 37:27Speaker 1: like it was a strike, And I just was pissed
- 37:29Speaker 1: off that I could have put the ball in play there. Obviously,
- 37:32Speaker 1: looking back, I should have challenged it. I looked back
- 37:34Speaker 1: at the video and it was like, damn, it was outside,
- 37:36Speaker 1: Young said, So I should have challenged it. Young told
- 37:40Speaker 1: the reporters that he was having a hard time picking
- 37:43Speaker 1: up the ball out of the hand of Marlin's closer,
- 37:44Speaker 1: Pete Fairbanks. Fairbanks is former Tempa bay Ray. He's known
- 37:49Speaker 1: for that he keeps the ball behind his wrist and
- 37:51Speaker 1: it comes out late and it's tough to pick up
- 37:53Speaker 1: at times. That's a skill, it is. It's part of
- 37:56Speaker 1: the deception of a pitcher. So Young thought the ninety
- 37:59Speaker 1: eight million hour fastball was in fact over the heart
- 38:01Speaker 1: of the plate, and he was so disgusted with himself
- 38:02Speaker 1: he didn't even think of challenging it. I get it, though,
- 38:05Speaker 1: I before you. I'm gonna preemptively say this before I
- 38:08Speaker 1: even read the text line in that situation, because you
- 38:12Speaker 1: have challenges left and there's nothing else to lose. Just
- 38:14Speaker 1: challenge anyway. If you're getting wrung up, just tap your helmet.
- 38:18Speaker 1: That's just a reflexive and he'll learn from that. But
- 38:22Speaker 1: it was not, according to Cole Young, because this seat
- 38:25Speaker 1: the Mariners had a team meeting and said nobody challenge
- 38:27Speaker 1: anything after Randy Roserena's gaff on Friday night. Yeah, so
- 38:33Speaker 1: there was a theory out there that maybe that was
- 38:35Speaker 1: part of the reason Young last night went over three
- 38:38Speaker 1: with a walk in a strikeout in that Mariner's eight
- 38:40Speaker 1: to four loss that pushed them back to five hundred
- 38:42Speaker 1: not of first place in America West. By the way,
- 38:45Speaker 1: the Mariners the esteemed our friend of mine. Larry Stone,
- 38:47Speaker 1: the retired Seattle Times column this pointed out this last
- 38:50Speaker 1: night online the Mariners with runners in scoring position in
- 38:54Speaker 1: that three game series when they lost all three games,
- 38:55Speaker 1: two for twenty five.
- 39:00Speaker 2: That is a rough stat.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Two for twenty five is when players start getting it
- 39:05Speaker 1: in their heads that they're two for twenty five, that
- 39:07Speaker 1: the pressure, oh, can we finally come through now with
- 39:10Speaker 1: a runner scoring? You know what would help for them
- 39:12Speaker 1: coming through with the runner in scoring position, Jaman not
- 39:15Speaker 1: trying to hit a you know what home run every
- 39:17Speaker 1: single time there's a runner on base.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And we've talked about this.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Cal Rowly talked about it the other week, Yes, and
- 39:23Speaker 3: we played his audio of that.
- 39:25Speaker 1: And they do it all of the time. Everyone does it.
- 39:29Speaker 1: The only ones who haven't done it habitually and have
- 39:31Speaker 1: actually come through Cole Young and cold Emerson. They will
- 39:35Speaker 1: hit the ball in the opposite field. And I remember I've
- 39:37Speaker 1: talked about why I think Cole Young is the MVP
- 39:39Speaker 1: of the team is because he actually does hit the
- 39:40Speaker 1: ball where it's pitched and he doesn't mind taking a
- 39:43Speaker 1: two strike fastball in the outside corner of the left
- 39:45Speaker 1: field as a left handed hitter. Josh Naylor does it. Occasionally,
- 39:50Speaker 1: he'll just tomahawk a high fastball into center field to
- 39:53Speaker 1: get a single on a two strike pitch. The rest
- 39:56Speaker 1: of the lineup. JP Crawford, I mean JP Crawford swings
- 39:59Speaker 1: like he should have chiropractor right behind him. He swings
- 40:02Speaker 1: so hard rand Rose Arena, like his neck is gonna
- 40:06Speaker 1: break that. They've been so groomed for so many years
- 40:12Speaker 1: by this sport about exit velocities and launch angles. That's
- 40:15Speaker 1: all they care about with men on base, when all
- 40:17Speaker 1: you need is to put the ball in play, runner
- 40:20Speaker 1: at third and one out, your job is to put
- 40:22Speaker 1: the ball and put your bat on the ball. Just
- 40:25Speaker 1: put in play. Chances are unless the infield's in, if
- 40:28Speaker 1: you hit it to the right side of specially, you're
- 40:29Speaker 1: gonna score run. If you hit it in the air
- 40:31Speaker 1: to the outfit, you're gonna score a run. Just hit
- 40:33Speaker 1: the ball, don't try to kill it, and don't try
- 40:35Speaker 1: to hit a home run because you're gonna be prone
- 40:37Speaker 1: to striking out. The one thing a pitcher and a
- 40:40Speaker 1: defense want with a runner at third and less than
- 40:42Speaker 1: two outs of a strikeout to not have the ball
- 40:45Speaker 1: and play and still get it out, because then if
- 40:47Speaker 1: the ball's not in play, there's no chance that runner
- 40:49Speaker 1: is gonna score. And how many times do we see
- 40:51Speaker 1: with runners in scoring position them trying to hit the
- 40:53Speaker 1: ball so hard do they strike out? Which is the
- 40:56Speaker 1: one thing a pitcher once when there's men in scoring position,
- 40:59Speaker 1: a strikeout. So there's no chance of runners advancing. That's
- 41:03Speaker 1: the problem with that.
- 41:06Speaker 2: I mean, we've kind of been saying it too.
- 41:08Speaker 3: We've gone through the stats of them not winning without
- 41:11Speaker 3: a home run over and over and over again.
- 41:14Speaker 2: But where is that coaching coming from?
- 41:17Speaker 1: Yeah, well, and I would submit that coaches can say
- 41:21Speaker 1: what they want, but when the guys in the batter's box,
- 41:23Speaker 1: it's up to them. They have to make the choice.
- 41:25Speaker 1: When the pitch is coming down the pike. It's their
- 41:27Speaker 1: mind that's going to decide whether how I'm going to
- 41:29Speaker 1: swing at this, whether I'm going to swing at it anyway.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Who needs to be the kicking the ass guy in
- 41:33Speaker 1: the Mariners clubhouse. We've mentioned that at the top of
- 41:35Speaker 1: the show four nine, four five one. We'll read back
- 41:37Speaker 1: your text next and include who you think the one
- 41:40Speaker 1: seahawk that has been reported by Front Office Sports to
- 41:43Speaker 1: be involved in the lead bid of buying the team.
- 41:47Speaker 1: We have an idea who we think it will discuss
- 41:49Speaker 1: that next. On ninety three point three KJRFM, Hi, welcome back,
- 42:27Speaker 1: Happy Friday. Jessmonan's got us in the funk portion of
- 42:29Speaker 1: the Great Belt Show. It's Jessman McIntyre.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Well we are getting fucky, are webr.
- 42:34Speaker 1: On ninety three point three KJRFM at eleven thirty. Remember
- 42:38Speaker 1: we got the World Cup iHeart National Broadcast pregame pre
- 42:42Speaker 1: match show before the World Cup quarterfinal at noon high
- 42:45Speaker 1: noon in Inglewood between Spance, Spain and Belgium. Looks like
- 42:52Speaker 1: that's going to be the winners. That's going to play France.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Then tomorrow doubleheader on ninety three point three KJRFM at
- 42:59Speaker 1: two o'clock from Miami. Really good one there England and Norway.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Earling Holland gets Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham and yeah,
- 43:09Speaker 1: that's gonna be That's gonna be great. We talked to
- 43:10Speaker 1: Great Code the Miami Herald about that earlier.
- 43:14Speaker 2: By the way, it was them on the podcast.
- 43:16Speaker 1: They go to the nine three three KJR on the
- 43:19Speaker 1: iHeartRadio appoard nine through three kjer dot com in here.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Greg Kote from the Miami Herald talking about that match
- 43:25Speaker 1: and other things in South Florida. And then tomorrow at
- 43:29Speaker 1: six o'clock our time, Argentina and Lionel Messi, who just
- 43:33Speaker 1: cannot be defeated no matter what their odds are in
- 43:36Speaker 1: these matches, they play Switzerland. Those two winners of tomorrow's
- 43:40Speaker 1: matches will play in the other semi final. The final
- 43:43Speaker 1: is July nineteenth in the meadowlands outside New York City
- 43:47Speaker 1: where there is a grass fiel very.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Very far outside New York City in the swamps. It's
- 43:53Speaker 3: in New Jersey.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Yeah, swamp land in New Jersey. I mean, it's just
- 43:56Speaker 1: ridiculous that they're having it there. Did you see where
- 44:00Speaker 1: the FIFA is selling patches of that grass field at
- 44:03Speaker 1: the metal Lands. Of course they are. They're monetizing it
- 44:07Speaker 1: for four hundred and fifty up to thirty five hundred
- 44:10Speaker 1: dollars a piece per patch. Come on, instead of selling
- 44:16Speaker 1: it and profetizing and profiteering it almost racketeering at that point,
- 44:21Speaker 1: Why don't you just keep it? Let the Jets and
- 44:23Speaker 1: Giants play on it. Imagine that.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Imagine what Army.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Navy play on it the second Saturday in December. Instead,
- 44:30Speaker 1: they're gonna be back on turf.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Mark Davis talked to the La Times about this yesterday.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Mark Davis is not exactly known as an progressive NFL owner.
- 44:43Speaker 1: I covered his father, Al Davis, and we thought Mark
- 44:46Speaker 1: Davis was not exactly fit to run an NFL frenchis,
- 44:49Speaker 1: but here he is. He stewarded the Oakland Raiders to
- 44:52Speaker 1: Las Vegas. The one thing he did, though, was he
- 44:55Speaker 1: insisted on a grass field. And even though Allegiant Stadium
- 44:59Speaker 1: in Las Vegas is indoors, they have a grass field
- 45:02Speaker 1: that they roll in and roll back out. Yeah.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Arizona does that too.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Yes they do, Yes, they do. Arizona does the same
- 45:09Speaker 1: thing for Cardinals games. Those are grass fields. So don't
- 45:13Speaker 1: tell me you can't run a grass field up here
- 45:14Speaker 1: in Seattle because it rains too much.
- 45:17Speaker 2: That's actually pretty good for dress for gross.
- 45:20Speaker 1: And Okay, it would get muddy and they'd have to
- 45:22Speaker 1: replace the grass. Yeah they would, and that would cost money.
- 45:25Speaker 1: And that's why NFL billionaires stayed billionaires, because they don't
- 45:28Speaker 1: want to spend their money on things like that optional.
- 45:30Speaker 1: But to Mark Davis's credit, he was telling the La
- 45:33Speaker 1: Times it was the right thing to do for his players.
- 45:35Speaker 1: He said it was a player safety issue and his
- 45:37Speaker 1: players wanted to play on grass, so he said, Okay,
- 45:39Speaker 1: we're gonna roll in grass and roll it out. That's
- 45:42Speaker 1: what we have to do now. Interestingly, that stadium, when
- 45:47Speaker 1: it is also home to unlv in college games bowl games,
- 45:50Speaker 1: used to be the PAC twelve title game. They play
- 45:52Speaker 1: turf for the colleges. They don't roll the grass field.
- 45:55Speaker 1: The Raiders play on in and out because Mark Davis
- 45:57Speaker 1: doesn't want to pay for that.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's tough.
- 46:00Speaker 1: So the college kids, we're pros anyway, They got to
- 46:04Speaker 1: play on the harder stuff.
- 46:05Speaker 2: They are pros.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Now Again, I reiterate the last three words I had
- 46:09Speaker 1: in my mind as I walked out of Lumenfield on
- 46:12Speaker 1: Monday night after that US Belgian match. I looked down
- 46:15Speaker 1: on the pitch and said, keep the grass. Yeah, they won't.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Lumenfield's already the people that run Lumenfield have already said that.
- 46:23Speaker 1: The Rain and the Sounders are going to play one
- 46:24Speaker 1: match each, the Sounders next week on July sixteenth against
- 46:27Speaker 1: the Portland Timbers, and then they're bringing in back into
- 46:32Speaker 1: the turf. They're going to just deconstruct the grass is
- 46:34Speaker 1: on a platform above the turf field and they're going
- 46:37Speaker 1: to deconstruct the platform and here comes the turf. It's
- 46:40Speaker 1: still there, it's underneath.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Do you ever get those little pellets in your shoes?
- 46:44Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, me too all the time. It's really
- 46:47Speaker 3: ruined a couple of washing machines for me.
- 46:48Speaker 1: So, oh yeah, marching up and down sidelines, that's true.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:54Speaker 1: The text line four nine four five one and the
- 46:56Speaker 1: Koma Dodge text line, Juman's very disappointed that nobody's on
- 46:59Speaker 1: the talk back.
- 47:00Speaker 3: App No, but we also technically usually promote this at eleven.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Correct, we're a little bit. We're thirty minutes early because
- 47:08Speaker 1: of World Cup soccer. I positive to begin the show,
- 47:12Speaker 1: do the Mariners need to kick the ass? And there's
- 47:14Speaker 1: no overwhelming, complete not even nobody's saying no, one hundred
- 47:18Speaker 1: percent of you say yes among hundreds of texts, and
- 47:21Speaker 1: then who okay, if we all agree they need to
- 47:24Speaker 1: kick in the ass inside the clubhouse, I'm talking player
- 47:27Speaker 1: to player, who could it be? We have a couple people,
- 47:31Speaker 1: well forty visses. The Mariners absolutely need to kick the ass.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Dan is not the man I mean Dan Wilson.
- 47:35Speaker 2: I think we need a little more funk for this segment.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Hold on, I don't care if the players really like him.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Oh there's Chris Kids old music. Thank you.
- 47:44Speaker 2: Chris bequeathed it to me.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Because he did. I'm not saying he can't.
- 47:48Speaker 2: He didn't die, guys.
- 47:49Speaker 1: No he didn't. But I miss Chris and this reminds
- 47:53Speaker 1: me of him. I don't care if the players really
- 47:55Speaker 1: like Dan Wilson. Did everyone like Blue? I would say no,
- 48:00Speaker 1: but I bet they sure respected it. Yes, they need
- 48:04Speaker 1: to kick in the ass four two five says another.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Fortune five says they need to trade for a respected
- 48:10Speaker 1: player who has that fire.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Yes, but can you bring that fire into a clubhouse?
- 48:16Speaker 2: You are not a part of.
- 48:18Speaker 3: That's what I wonder when it comes to a mid
- 48:20Speaker 3: season thing. I mean to be honest, Josh Naylor did it,
- 48:23Speaker 3: but you did it more through the media than I
- 48:26Speaker 3: saw him do.
- 48:26Speaker 2: In the clubhouse.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Fortune five says, poor roster construction. They don't have a
- 48:33Speaker 1: player to hold other players accountable. You can't have a
- 48:36Speaker 1: roster full of chill dudes. Interesting, but we do they do.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Jeff frequent listener and texter. Thanks Jeff third three to six. Oh,
- 48:47Speaker 1: they don't have a player on the roster right now.
- 48:48Speaker 1: That's going to light a fire. They also don't have
- 48:50Speaker 1: the coaching staff to do it either. They need to
- 48:53Speaker 1: bring in someone like Buck Showalter, Alex Core. We've talked
- 48:55Speaker 1: about why those guys aren't managing the Mariners, Joe Madden.
- 48:59Speaker 1: They would. I'll tell Jerry PoTA where to shove his
- 49:01Speaker 1: iPad a player.
- 49:04Speaker 3: This is a front office driven management system.
- 49:07Speaker 2: We are aware of that.
- 49:09Speaker 1: A player Jeff says they could bring in would be
- 49:12Speaker 1: Wilson Contreras, who just got suspended with the Red Sox.
- 49:16Speaker 1: I hate to say it, but George Springer. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Jeff,
- 49:21Speaker 1: let's not bring in George Springer. We don't need trash
- 49:24Speaker 1: cans here in Seattle. No no, I don't think that
- 49:27Speaker 1: would be a good idea. Two six, the MS will
- 49:31Speaker 1: be praying that Castillo can have a good outing against
- 49:34Speaker 1: the Rays and they can point to that as a
- 49:37Speaker 1: selling point. Yes, I think every start Castillo makes is
- 49:40Speaker 1: a showcase. That would be the best case. We also
- 49:44Speaker 1: asked who the Front Office Sports if you missed us
- 49:49Speaker 1: talking about it last segment. Front Office Sports has reported
- 49:53Speaker 1: that there are two groups of the three known bidding groups.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Two of them have emerged as leaders to buy the
- 49:58Speaker 1: Seahawks way the Wick Grossbeck, theydatam a Tall group, the
- 50:04Speaker 1: Boston Celtics investors, and the minority investor from Sun Microsystems
- 50:08Speaker 1: in the San Francisco forty nine ers. So far, the
- 50:12Speaker 1: process continues. In that report, Front Office Sports also states
- 50:15Speaker 1: that at least one ex Seahawk is involved in one
- 50:20Speaker 1: of those two lead bids. They didn't say which player,
- 50:23Speaker 1: and they Front Office Sports did not report which of
- 50:25Speaker 1: the two groups involved in You can make some summation
- 50:29Speaker 1: or at least a surmise that it might be the
- 50:32Speaker 1: Sun Microsystems co founder group, because there's only one lead
- 50:36Speaker 1: investor known there rather than the two Boston Celtics owners.
- 50:40Speaker 1: But that's just supposition on my part. So I asked
- 50:43Speaker 1: you who do you think and immediately, who do you
- 50:46Speaker 1: think the X Seahawk is that is in the league.
- 50:48Speaker 1: One of those two lead groups. And when I spread
- 50:50Speaker 1: this yesterday, one immediately came to my mind. Russell Wilson. Duh,
- 50:55Speaker 1: he has the of course.
- 50:56Speaker 3: You're retired, and he's got a bomb contract when it
- 50:59Speaker 3: comes so CBS sports.
- 51:01Speaker 1: So and he signed the course. The two hundred and
- 51:03Speaker 1: fifty million dollar deal with the Denver Broncos when he
- 51:06Speaker 1: left the Seahawks. Yeah, and I can hear already. I
- 51:09Speaker 1: see it on the text line. Hell no, Russell Wilson.
- 51:11Speaker 1: But let me hear me out here one. Russell Wilson
- 51:15Speaker 1: has always wanted to be like Tom Brady about everything,
- 51:18Speaker 1: everything from playing to work ethic, to his own brand
- 51:22Speaker 1: of clothing, to his what they call it miracle bubbles,
- 51:25Speaker 1: the recovery water.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Oh what was that, Nato bubbles?
- 51:29Speaker 1: Yeah, nan, all of that. Yes, that would Russell Wilson's
- 51:33Speaker 1: eat the ball, Eat the ball.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that wasn't even good bread.
- 51:38Speaker 1: They brought they sold that it Safeway for a while.
- 51:41Speaker 1: They brought that into the media room one time.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Yeah, we had it there. It was not good. No,
- 51:47Speaker 2: but he's uh. I feel like he's always been an entrepreneur.
- 51:51Speaker 1: He has and he wants to be like Tom Bradycuse
- 51:54Speaker 1: Tom Brady's a minority investor in the oak the Las
- 51:57Speaker 1: Vegas Raiders. My mistake used to cover the Oaklan Raiders.
- 52:00Speaker 1: And this would be another extension of trying to be
- 52:03Speaker 1: have a legacy and an influence like Tom Brady when
- 52:06Speaker 1: he played in here Russell Wilson always talked about Tom
- 52:09Speaker 1: Brady and went in a legacy like Tom Brady. This
- 52:12Speaker 1: would be a very Tom brady esque move on Russell
- 52:14Speaker 1: Wilson's part. And now that he has just been alludes
- 52:17Speaker 1: to is now not playing football, retired and in the
- 52:20Speaker 1: CBS analyst chair. I think that's that's a meeting who
- 52:25Speaker 1: came to my mind. The second person who came to
- 52:28Speaker 1: my mind from an entrepreneurial bent, and the fact that
- 52:31Speaker 1: he has maintained ties here and the fact he's already
- 52:33Speaker 1: a minority owner as is Russell Wilson, a minority owner
- 52:36Speaker 1: in the Sounders. Bobby Wagner. Bobby Wagner recently became a
- 52:41Speaker 1: minority investor in the Storm.
- 52:42Speaker 2: The Storm. Yeah, that came to my mind as well.
- 52:46Speaker 1: He is very much. He actually spends a lot of
- 52:49Speaker 1: his off the field time teaching entrepreneurial skills to younger
- 52:54Speaker 1: some from disadvantage of communities, but from younger people. Off
- 52:58Speaker 1: he's gone to now that he's plays for the Washington Commanders,
- 53:00Speaker 1: he spent time at Howard University, the historically black college
- 53:05Speaker 1: university in Washington, d C. Talking entrepreneurship to students there.
- 53:11Speaker 1: This would be very much on brand and still local
- 53:14Speaker 1: for Bobby Wagner, who still has local ties here and
- 53:16Speaker 1: comes back here often and has business ties here and
- 53:19Speaker 1: a lot. And I have a feeling I know where
- 53:23Speaker 1: the text line stands on those two. Which one would
- 53:27Speaker 1: be ya and which one would be made to be
- 53:29Speaker 1: an investor?
- 53:29Speaker 3: And it's not hard to decipher, yes, but I do.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Bobby has just been more quiet about it, where Russell
- 53:38Speaker 3: has been more out loud.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Yes, that's absolutely true.
- 53:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean we have to dig up those stories. Sorry, Greg,
- 53:45Speaker 3: you have to dig up those stories in your journalistic
- 53:48Speaker 3: integrity way.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Dig up stories of what.
- 53:52Speaker 2: What Bobby Wagner does?
- 53:53Speaker 3: You know that's not just out loud, it's more behind
- 53:57Speaker 3: the scenes.
- 53:57Speaker 1: And you're a journalist and you have well you're challenging me, Jessman.
- 54:02Speaker 1: I will tell you that I've already done this. If
- 54:04Speaker 1: you go to the News Tribune dot com and you
- 54:06Speaker 1: go Bobby Wagner Walter Payton Man of the Year. I
- 54:09Speaker 1: wrote the many of the things and in any other
- 54:12Speaker 1: stories as well, from tiny houses that he and kJ
- 54:15Speaker 1: Wright have invested in here for to help homelessness in Seattle,
- 54:19Speaker 1: to food banks. There is one day I wrote this
- 54:22Speaker 1: at the News Tribune dot com. You look it up
- 54:24Speaker 1: and google it or whatever the kids do. He Thanksgiving
- 54:28Speaker 1: time about this about six years ago, right before the pandemic.
- 54:32Speaker 1: He was in West Seattle. I don't know why he
- 54:34Speaker 1: was in West Seattle. He didn't live there, but that's
- 54:36Speaker 1: where he was. On a Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Bobby Wagner
- 54:41Speaker 1: walked into a West Seattle Safeway and he picked up
- 54:45Speaker 1: the microphone that goes across the pa of the entire
- 54:49Speaker 1: You may know this story already.
- 54:51Speaker 2: Yes, Greg, I do read your material.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Okay, thanks, And Bobby Wagner picked up the microphone. The
- 54:57Speaker 1: manager has to make announcements like chicken come to the deli,
- 55:01Speaker 1: and he said, everyone in the store, buy whatever you want.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Thanksgivings on me.
- 55:08Speaker 2: I'd love that story so much.
- 55:09Speaker 1: You know you remember that, of course I do. And
- 55:12Speaker 1: he bought everything, he said, he bought everything that everybody
- 55:15Speaker 1: had in their carts in the moment.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Yes.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Who was in the store. Yes. And he said that
- 55:21Speaker 1: the Safeway was near West Seattle High School and it
- 55:23Speaker 1: was right it was Thanksgiving week, so they were just
- 55:26Speaker 1: out of school, or maybe we were out of school
- 55:28Speaker 1: for the day.
- 55:28Speaker 3: Or were off but were usually on those Wednesdays to
- 55:31Speaker 3: get early dismissing.
- 55:33Speaker 1: There were kids that were in the high school. Kids
- 55:36Speaker 1: that were in there started throwing gift cards like Best
- 55:40Speaker 1: Buy Amazon, and Bobby comes over and goes, no, man,
- 55:47Speaker 1: that's not the intent here. I'm trying to buy families
- 55:51Speaker 1: Thanksgiving dinners. Don't be throwing Home Depot and Apple and
- 55:56Speaker 1: all these gift cards into your bag. That's not what
- 55:59Speaker 1: I'm trying to do that.
- 56:00Speaker 3: He's a very high schooler move though, and I respect
- 56:03Speaker 3: the hustle, but no, that was not Bobby's intention. So
- 56:09Speaker 3: going back to the point where I talked about the
- 56:11Speaker 3: way that you approach journalism is that Bobby doesn't put
- 56:15Speaker 3: it on his Instagram, correct, and then the world knows.
- 56:20Speaker 2: You actually have to find out about these stories.
- 56:23Speaker 3: And I think Bobby has gone about it in a
- 56:25Speaker 3: very respectful, quiet way.
- 56:27Speaker 1: And the text line rightly points out and these are
- 56:30Speaker 1: good points. Two or three people are already saying it
- 56:33Speaker 1: to two five three. Bobby can't. I'm assuming Bobby can't
- 56:36Speaker 1: be an owner of the Seahawks while still playing for
- 56:38Speaker 1: the Commander's question mark. Correct. He is currently a free agent.
- 56:42Speaker 1: He has not signed with anybody. He turned thirty six
- 56:46Speaker 1: years old two weeks ago the end of June. So
- 56:50Speaker 1: it's not my favorite terms. Not a fate, a complete
- 56:53Speaker 1: that he's going to play this year.
- 56:55Speaker 2: It is not, And he was just pure speculation, is what.
- 56:59Speaker 1: I told earlier that I don't like to do as
- 57:01Speaker 1: a journalist. We're doing right now. But yes, he would
- 57:04Speaker 1: not be an active NFL player and an part owner
- 57:07Speaker 1: of an NFL team. That is true. He would if
- 57:10Speaker 1: he did, if he was that investor, he was making
- 57:12Speaker 1: the decision he was no longer playing anymore, and he
- 57:14Speaker 1: would in fact have to officially put in his retirement
- 57:16Speaker 1: paper to the NFL. As I understand it, you can't
- 57:19Speaker 1: just be kind of out there as a free agent.
- 57:21Speaker 1: You'd have to be officially retired.
- 57:22Speaker 2: You have to officially retire. Yeah, that is correct.
- 57:24Speaker 1: So, yes, good point, that's what we Yes. Are there
- 57:29Speaker 1: any others?
- 57:30Speaker 2: We do have some Mariner texts, Oh go ahead. Yeah.
- 57:39Speaker 3: So Dan Wilson is a coach, not a manager, and
- 57:42Speaker 3: there's a huge difference.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I would agree with that text.
- 57:46Speaker 3: However, he was thrust into a manager role from the
- 57:50Speaker 3: broadcast booth, and I would say that he deserves a
- 57:54Speaker 3: little bit of grace for working his way through the
- 57:56Speaker 3: managerial experience, which is very different from others who have
- 58:00Speaker 3: been lifelong managers.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Because he deserve grace or criticism. I mean, maybe he
- 58:07Speaker 1: doesn't deserve criticism, but I think he can. He could
- 58:10Speaker 1: get grace. But the people who hired him probably deserve
- 58:14Speaker 1: criticism or at least a skeptical eye as to why
- 58:17Speaker 1: you hired him. Of course, we have talked about this.
- 58:20Speaker 1: The reason Dan Wilson is manager is the same reason
- 58:22Speaker 1: Scott's service was the manager. They agreed to do everything
- 58:25Speaker 1: Jerry Depoto told him to do, and down to handedness
- 58:30Speaker 1: and platooning guys and six man rotation and don't let
- 58:34Speaker 1: a reliever pitch more than one inning and start a
- 58:36Speaker 1: new ending and all of it. There are a lot
- 58:38Speaker 1: of managers who would have said no, thank you.
- 58:41Speaker 3: Joe Edden of course, yeah, yeah, I think he's done
- 58:45Speaker 3: a great job with vibes in the clubhouse, which can
- 58:48Speaker 3: actually be a very significant portion of baseball in as
- 58:53Speaker 3: long as the season as it is. But that Texter
- 58:57Speaker 3: might have a point where may be the you need
- 59:01Speaker 3: an ass kicker as a manager.
- 59:02Speaker 1: Yeah, sure, work for the Mariners and Loop Panelo in
- 59:05Speaker 1: their heyday, of course, didn't get him a World Series
- 59:08Speaker 1: you still haven't had fifty years two five three, says
- 59:11Speaker 1: Marshawn is the dark horse potential owner. He has maintained
- 59:15Speaker 1: his presence in Seattle coming back, but he does still
- 59:19Speaker 1: live in Oakland, his roots, and that's where he stays
- 59:22Speaker 1: the most. So but no, that's that would be a
- 59:26Speaker 1: popular pick, would it not.
- 59:29Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, but he hasn't made the investments that
- 59:33Speaker 3: others have.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Correct, Yeah, I mean we would love it.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Coming up next World Cup Soccer quarterfinals, Jackson Felts Danny
- 59:44Speaker 1: Jackson are gonna have the national iHeart Radio pregame show
- 59:47Speaker 1: right here on our era on ninety three point three KGRFM,
- 59:50Speaker 1: and then at twelve o'clock Spain right at twelve. They
- 59:53Speaker 1: don't mess around fefuss twelve. They start at twelve the
- 59:56Speaker 1: kickoff of the quarterfinal between Spain and Belgium from Inglewood.
