Speaker 3: and I will handle it on midday, and that was
• 1:53
Speaker 3: the flooding that took place in certain parts of West Virginia.
• 1:57
Speaker 3: Now Here in the Canall Valley. We just had some
• 1:59
Speaker 3: heavy rain from time to time, but areas as you
• 2:04
Speaker 3: head toward the eastern Panandle particularly mineral County just kind
• 2:07
Speaker 3: of hammered, and we've got some pictures posted about that.

• 2:19
Speaker 3: wide shows a little bit later on. But something that
• 2:22
Speaker 3: broke actually during talk Line yesterday and then we covered
• 2:26
Speaker 3: it as well on Metro New's Midday.
• 2:28
  Speaker 7: That is the.
• 2:28
Speaker 3: Niosh, the restoration at least the way it looks for
• 2:32
Speaker 3: a Niosh in Morgantown, and here in a Charleston court
• 2:35
Speaker 3: room Judge iren Berger yesterday issuing her opinion on that.
• 2:40
Speaker 3: So the Niosh workers were told late Monday night that
• 2:42
Speaker 3: they are going to be going back to work, and
• 2:44
Speaker 3: Brad Macklhonney who joined us to talk about that a
• 2:46
Speaker 3: little bit later on. Now, we're going to do two
• 2:48
Speaker 3: food segments today, and I know that you find that
• 2:50
Speaker 3: hard to believe when you're talking about me talking about food,
• 2:53
Speaker 3: but they're too similar, but not so similar. We've got
• 2:57
Speaker 3: Mountaineer Food Bank folks in the studio with us, and
• 3:00
Speaker 3: momentarily we're going to talk about the something I love
• 3:04
Speaker 3: and it's barbecue. The Charlie West Barbecue Festival happened this
• 3:07
Speaker 3: weekend City Center Slack Plaza. Sam Summerville is here to
• 3:10
Speaker 3: talk about that. All that, plus your calls and text

• 3:23
Speaker 3: Sam Summerville is here. Welcome to the show, sir.
• 3:26
Speaker 8: Good morning, Dave Well, happy to be here.
• 3:28
Speaker 3: We're happy to have you here talk about this event
• 3:32
Speaker 3: and also the Barber Debt Center, to whom this benefits.
• 3:35
Speaker 8: Sure, then this is our eighth annual Charlie West Barbecue Fest.
• 3:40
Speaker 8: It's being held at the City Center at Slack Plaza
• 3:43
Speaker 8: on Summer Street this Saturday. It starts at two pm
• 3:47
Speaker 8: and runs through eight pm. And as you mentioned, this
• 3:49
Speaker 8: benefits are after school programming on the West Side the
• 3:53
Speaker 8: Barber Debt Center. This will be the twenty seventh year
• 3:57
Speaker 8: that the Barber Debt Center has been providing after school
• 3:59
Speaker 8: program for students on the West Side. It's for kindergarten
• 4:03
Speaker 8: through the fifth grade, and the students come there every
• 4:07
Speaker 8: day after school. We have certified teachers tutors that work
• 4:11
Speaker 8: with our students. As soon as they arrive, we serve
• 4:14
Speaker 8: them dinner. We also provide him a snack before they
• 4:17
Speaker 8: leave and go home that evening. But as I mentioned,
• 4:19
Speaker 8: we help them with their homework, with their academics. We
• 4:22
Speaker 8: have computer labs, recreational activities, and it really helps them
• 4:29
Speaker 8: with their academics, but then also gives them a safe
• 4:32
Speaker 8: haven and a place to say after school every day.
• 4:34
Speaker 4: Now, for those who may not know, Sam who was Bobardette.
• 4:37
Speaker 8: Boberdett was a pastor at a church on the West Side,
• 4:41
Speaker 8: Emmanual Baptist, which hosts and where we have our offices
• 4:45
Speaker 8: and one of our locations for the after school program.
• 4:48
Speaker 8: Bob was a pastor there, always had a passion for
• 4:51
Speaker 8: children and wanted to do something for children on the
• 4:55
Speaker 8: West Side. He moved from Charleston then but then die
• 5:00
Speaker 8: of cancer later and we because of his passion for
• 5:02
Speaker 8: what he did for students while he was here, we
• 5:05
Speaker 8: named the the organization after him.
• 5:08
Speaker 3: Let's get into the particulars of the barbecue fest so
• 5:12
Speaker 3: as you said, city centers like Plaza Downtown this Saturday,
• 5:15
  Speaker 3: talk about that.
• 5:16
Speaker 8: Yeah, it's it's it's it's there as you mentioned city Center,
• 5:19
Speaker 8: and it starts at two pm runs the eight pm.

Speaker 8: be competing. They'll be we have judges. They'll be competing
• 5:32
Speaker 8: UH in various categories such as best pulled barbecue, ribs,
• 5:38
Speaker 8: best sauce. Also there's a wild card UH competition where
• 5:44
Speaker 8: whatever they want to fix, the judges look at that
• 5:47
Speaker 8: and then rank them and they'll they'll rank first, second,
• 5:50
Speaker 8: and third then in those categories. But then the public
• 5:55
Speaker 8: when they come they can buy tasting tickets and that'll
• 5:58
Speaker 8: give you two a chance to sample the competitor and
• 6:03
Speaker 8: backyard chefs what they've prepared for the day. And then
• 6:08
Speaker 8: you can also if you buy ten tasting tickets, you
• 6:11
Speaker 8: also get to vote for people's choice for the best
• 6:15
Speaker 8: backyard chef, best competition barbecue chef.
• 6:18
Speaker 3: Now, if people want to enter the competition, particularly the

• 6:41
Speaker 8: this idea and has led the effort for the last
• 6:44
Speaker 8: eight years. So it's still not too late to sign up.

• 7:20
Speaker 8: some of these backyard chef comes up, they come up
• 7:22
Speaker 8: with some interesting items to sample.
• 7:24
Speaker 4: And and you know, people take this stuff seriously.
• 7:27
Speaker 3: Obviously, the professionals do, I mean, but the backyard folks
• 7:31
Speaker 3: I mean, And it's like and al right, I got
• 7:32
  Speaker 3: a lot of But I mean, I'm a simple grill
• 7:34
Speaker 3: guy myself. But when it comes to the people that
• 7:36
Speaker 3: do the smoking, and then it's it's big, and it's competitive.
• 7:40
Speaker 8: It is and it's it amazes me the effort and
• 7:43
Speaker 8: the time and the effort that they put into it.
• 7:45
Speaker 8: I know that they love doing it, obviously, or they
• 7:47
Speaker 8: wouldn't do it. But it's such a fun event too.
• 7:50
Speaker 8: You get to people, you get to talk to people,
• 7:52
  Speaker 8: meet people.
• 7:53
Speaker 3: We have live music, Yeah, to talk about some of
• 7:55
Speaker 3: the things going along with the with the barbecue.
• 7:58
Speaker 8: Yeah, we gets mentioned earlier. It starts at two pm.
• 8:02
Speaker 8: You can start tasting, buying tasting tickets. Then it runs
• 8:04
Speaker 8: through eight. We have live music. We have three bands
• 8:07
Speaker 8: starting at two pm. Peddler's Glory. We'll play from two
• 8:11
Speaker 8: to three, eleven to eleven, then is from three thirty
• 8:14
Speaker 8: to five Jeremy Short then ends a day from five
• 8:17
  Speaker 8: thirty to seven.
• 8:18
Speaker 4: What kind of music are we talking about? Just a
• 8:20
Speaker 4: little bit of everything.
• 8:21
Speaker 8: Oh, it's a little bit of everything.
• 8:22
Speaker 3: That's what you needed at an event like this. You
• 8:24
Speaker 3: don't want too much of one thing. It's a little
• 8:26
  Speaker 3: bit of everything.
• 8:26
Speaker 8: No, and it's a great location. It's you know, people
• 8:29
Speaker 8: can walk around. We were selling t shirts, We're selling
• 8:33
Speaker 8: obviously soft drinks, we have craft beers that we're selling,
• 8:36
Speaker 8: and it's just a fun time. I love going to it.
• 8:40
Speaker 4: I mean, it's how many years you've been doing this.
• 8:43
Speaker 8: You say, this is the eighth year. We took a
• 8:45
Speaker 8: couple about a two year break with COVID, but this
• 8:48
Speaker 8: is the eighth year of it.
• 8:49
Speaker 3: And that's what I like about the thing, too, is
• 8:52
Speaker 3: with these type festivals, Sam, is that people can you know,
• 8:56
Speaker 3: get together, fellowship a little bit, have a good time,
• 8:59
Speaker 3: maybe have a cocktail, have a soda, have a water
• 9:01
Speaker 3: or whatever, and enjoy some great food, enjoy some great music,
• 9:04
Speaker 3: and you're helping out a really really great cause too.
• 9:06
Speaker 8: Yes, it is. I mean I've been involved with or
• 9:10
Speaker 8: after after school program UH for I've lost count of
• 9:14
Speaker 8: the number of years now it's probably twenty plus years.
• 9:16
Speaker 8: And it is. It provides a great service to students
• 9:19
Speaker 8: on the West Side and and UH and and their families.
• 9:22
Speaker 8: And I'm just really happy to be involved with it
• 9:26
Speaker 8: and UH and really encourage people to come out learn
• 9:30
Speaker 8: more about the Bobber Debt Center and just have a
• 9:32
  Speaker 8: great time.
• 9:33
Speaker 3: And what is it about the after school program that
• 9:35
Speaker 3: that you enjoy so much?
• 9:37
Speaker 8: Well, I think it's uh, you know, getting seeing the
• 9:39
Speaker 8: children and seeing how they they how it helps them
• 9:43
Speaker 8: throughout the act through the year. You know that they
• 9:46
Speaker 8: get reinforcement, uh, positive reinforcement there they have people who
• 9:50
Speaker 8: care for them in an after school environment. It's a
• 9:53
Speaker 8: safe place for them to go and uh, you know,
• 9:57
Speaker 8: and we see how they advance and improve every the years.
• 10:01
Speaker 8: And it's just really some of the stories and that
• 10:04
Speaker 8: our staff tells us about it's just really touching.
• 10:08
Speaker 3: All right, give us all the details again, the time,
• 10:10
Speaker 3: the place and where they get tickets and all the stuff.
• 10:13
Speaker 8: Go ahead, Okay, it's this Saturday, May seventeenth at City
• 10:18
Speaker 8: City Center and they don't make that easy to pronounce
• 10:21
Speaker 8: city Center at City Center at Slack Plaza, thank you.
• 10:24
Speaker 8: And it starts at two pm runs to eight pm,
• 10:27
Speaker 8: and there'll be some great barbecue, ribs and other things
• 10:30
Speaker 8: to taste and the sample and just some great music
• 10:33
Speaker 8: and a fun time.
• 10:34
Speaker 3: It's going to be awesome. And again, where's the best
• 10:36
Speaker 3: place for people to get more information? You said, I
• 10:38
Speaker 3: know it's on social media and different places.
• 10:40
Speaker 8: Yeah, we have a website you can look at that
• 10:43
Speaker 8: Charlie West Barbecue Fest and you can get more information
• 10:47
Speaker 8: in there. And as you mentioned earlier, we're still open
• 10:49
Speaker 8: to any backyard chefs that want to come down. Give
• 10:52
Speaker 8: us a call, reach out to us, and come on
• 10:54
Speaker 8: down and have some fun.
• 10:55
Speaker 3: And if you're not familiar with city Center at Slight Plaza,
• 10:58
Speaker 3: it won't be hard to find when you pull into
• 11:00
Speaker 3: Charleston because you'll smell it. You know, about the time
• 11:02
Speaker 3: you get the Cistonville you you'll probably smell it, right,
• 11:05
  Speaker 3: Oh you do?
• 11:05
Speaker 8: I mean these folks start coming in on Friday evening.
• 11:08
Speaker 8: They're cooking all night and I love getting there early
• 11:11
Speaker 8: Saturday morning and just the smell is just awesome.
• 11:15
Speaker 3: And maybe going well, I don't know if this is
• 11:17
Speaker 3: good enough, but as an official of this, you Sam,
• 11:21
Speaker 3: you just say, well, maybe I just need to try
• 11:22
Speaker 3: it a little bit of that, just to make sure
• 11:24
Speaker 3: that it's competition ready, right, that's what you do.
• 11:26
Speaker 8: Well, definitely, And these guys, I mean, there's so much
• 11:28
Speaker 8: fun these chefs, I mean, they come around and have
• 11:31
Speaker 8: you try this, try this, you know, sampled a little bit.
• 11:34
Speaker 3: And one o'clock and Sam is pretty much stuff at
• 11:36
  Speaker 3: that point.
• 11:37
Speaker 4: It's not even started yet.

  Speaker 7: to be.
• 15:04
Speaker 3: Here, okay now let's talk. That, DAVID i want to
• 15:06
Speaker 3: start with you at about your law firm and you're
• 15:10
Speaker 3: involved With Mountaineer Food.
• 15:11
Speaker 11: Bank, yeah we've been Supporting Mountaineer Food bank financially for
• 15:14
Speaker 11: a number of, years and it kind of dawned on
• 15:17
Speaker 11: me one day that we're located in a great place
• 15:18
Speaker 11: On Capitol street there two, fourteen and a lot of
• 15:22
Speaker 11: events happen On Capitol street every, summer really all through the,
• 15:25
Speaker 11: year and so we reached out to The Mountaineer Food
• 15:27
Speaker 11: bank and, said, hey why don't you guys let's pick some,
• 15:30
Speaker 11: events and why don't you guys come down and set
• 15:32
Speaker 11: up a table in front of our building and you
• 15:34
Speaker 11: can collect food and collect. Money and we're right here
• 15:37
Speaker 11: because there's a lot of people that come through, here
• 15:39
Speaker 11: like For, regatta The Christmas, parade and the first one
• 15:41
Speaker 11: we're going to do is the Art, walk and so
• 15:44
Speaker 11: we got with them and so we're going to start
• 15:46
Speaker 11: our new, event the first one on it for the
• 15:48
  Speaker 11: Art we.
• 15:48
Speaker 3: Have you lowered that microphone for me just to live.
• 15:50
Speaker 3: There you go, There, okay, sorry it's try and that's
• 15:53
Speaker 3: that's a bad host right. HERE i should have done
• 15:54
Speaker 3: that before you set. Out you're great.
• 15:56
  Speaker 11: Host thank, You.
• 15:57
Speaker 3: Alicia let's talk About Mountain their food bank, overall and
• 15:59
Speaker 3: then we'll get into the.
• 16:00
  Speaker 4: Specifics.
• 16:01
Speaker 7: Sure, so The Mountaineer Food bank is the largest emergency
• 16:04
Speaker 7: food provider in the state Of West. Virginia there are
• 16:06
Speaker 7: only two food banks In West. Virginia you have The
• 16:08
Speaker 7: Mountaineer Food bank and then you have Facing Hunger Food
• 16:11
Speaker 7: bank down In. Huntington we are both members of The
• 16:13
Speaker 7: Feeding America National. Network we serve forty eight of the
• 16:17
Speaker 7: fifty five counties In West virginia and we have about
• 16:20
Speaker 7: four hundred and sixty feeding agency. Partners so those are
• 16:24
Speaker 7: your local community food, pantries hot meal, programs backpack, programs
• 16:30
Speaker 7: so we source the food and then we get it
• 16:33
Speaker 7: out to the folks in the, community boots on the.
• 16:35
Speaker 7: Ground and, additionally we also have some of our own.
• 16:39
Speaker 7: Programs you might see some of our trucks out on the.
• 16:41
Speaker 7: Road we have our mobile pantry, Program Veterans Table, Program
• 16:46
Speaker 7: Extra Mile Summer, feeding so we're out in the.
• 16:50
Speaker 3: Community talk about the need Of Mountaineer Food bank and
• 16:55
Speaker 3: the need of the people right. NOW i mean there's
• 17:00
Speaker 3: always been a, need there always will be a, need
• 17:02
Speaker 3: and never going to eradicate. Things you realize that there's
• 17:04
Speaker 3: always any of these, services but to talk about the
• 17:07
Speaker 3: need in twenty twenty, five, Yeah.
• 17:10
Speaker 7: So, unfortunately food and security continues to, climb especially In
• 17:14
Speaker 7: West virginia in the rural. Areas right, now there are
• 17:17
Speaker 7: over two hundred and fifty thousand food insecure neighbors In West.
• 17:21
Speaker 7: Virginia so if you think about, that about one in
• 17:24
Speaker 7: seven adults are facing hunger and one in five children
• 17:28
Speaker 7: don't know where their next meal is coming. From, SO i,
• 17:32
Speaker 7: mean when you really stop and think one in every
• 17:35
Speaker 7: seven of us is facing food in, security you know
• 17:38
Speaker 7: that's really, like, wow what can we do to continue
• 17:42
Speaker 7: to feed folks so that they aren't going to bed?
• 17:44
Speaker 3: Hungry and when you use, that we hear that term
• 17:48
Speaker 3: thrown around a lot and At licia this food. Insecurity
• 17:52
Speaker 3: what is the definition of food in? Security so we
• 17:54
Speaker 3: picture in our, head you, know somebody that has no.
• 17:57
Speaker 3: Food that's not necessarily the case when it comes to food.
• 18:01
Speaker 3: Insecurity talk about that?
• 18:02
Speaker 7: Definition, Sure so food insecurity just means that you may
• 18:06
Speaker 7: not have access to, healthy nourishing. Food and we want
• 18:12
Speaker 7: to be able to provide folks with nourishment so that
• 18:15
Speaker 7: they're able to be.
• 18:16
Speaker 3: Successful and how do you go about?
• 18:18
Speaker 7: That so we during our mobile pantry, distributions we make
• 18:23
Speaker 7: sure that we provide shelf stable food in addition to fresh, milk, meats, dairy, bread.
• 18:33
Speaker 7: Vegetables we work with some of our local farmers to
• 18:37
Speaker 7: supply fresh. Produce a lot of times we have big
• 18:40
Speaker 7: bags of apples that were given out to our neighbors
• 18:43
Speaker 7: as they come through the.
• 18:44
Speaker 4: Line and how does the line? WORK i mean who
• 18:46
Speaker 4: did just so our.
• 18:48
Speaker 7: Mobile pantry program we go out into the most rural
• 18:52
Speaker 7: areas Of West. Virginia we try to service those that
• 18:56
Speaker 7: maybe have barriers of. Transportation or other issues and they
• 18:59
Speaker 7: aren't able to to come. Out maybe they don't have
• 19:01
Speaker 7: a grocery store in their. Community so we bring our truck.
• 19:04
Speaker 7: In we unload all of the food on. Pallettes we
• 19:07
Speaker 7: have volunteers that. Come the neighbors line up and they drive,
• 19:11
Speaker 7: through and as they drive, through we load up their
• 19:13
  Speaker 7: car with the.
• 19:13
Speaker 3: Food is there any any type of requirements for people
• 19:18
Speaker 3: to get it or any or resp to?
• 19:20
Speaker 4: Anybody for our mobile.
• 19:21
Speaker 7: Food program mobile pantry, program they have to be at
• 19:24
Speaker 7: snap at that snap, level so they we do an
• 19:28
Speaker 7: intake process when they line, up and as long as
• 19:31
Speaker 7: they meet that, threshold they're able to get access to that. Food,
• 19:34
Speaker 7: now we do some programs like our Fresh produce markets
• 19:38
Speaker 7: here In Kanawha. County those are once a month and
• 19:42
Speaker 7: the location kind of, varies but they're open to anybody
• 19:44
Speaker 7: In Kanawha, county regardless of. INCOME i, mean there are
• 19:47
Speaker 7: no questions. Asked as long as you live In Kanawha,
• 19:49
Speaker 7: county you can come through and it's it's set up
• 19:51
Speaker 7: kind of like a farmer's, market so folks just walk.
• 19:53
Speaker 3: Through where are some you, said it varies as to
• 19:55
Speaker 3: where it, is but give us an. Example some of
• 19:57
Speaker 3: the places that they are not dates or, anything but
• 19:59
  Speaker 3: so we've been At we've.
• 20:01
Speaker 7: Been over in The West, Side we've been over, this
• 20:04
Speaker 7: we have one This friday actually that's going to be
• 20:06
Speaker 7: over at The Saint Albans Park Roadside. Park we've been
• 20:11
Speaker 7: at local, churches so it just kind of kind of
• 20:15
  Speaker 7: varies throughout the.
• 20:15
Speaker 3: County and you talked about using utilizing worker at local
• 20:20
Speaker 3: farmers as much as.
• 20:21
Speaker 4: Possible get into that a little.
• 20:22
Speaker 7: Bit, Yes so we do have somebody dedicated to reaching
• 20:26
Speaker 7: out to our local farmers because we want to help
• 20:28
Speaker 7: support the local. Economy so we for, example for these
• 20:32
Speaker 7: events that we're going to do With hendrickson And long
• 20:34
Speaker 7: one of instead of having your typical, swag we're going
• 20:37
Speaker 7: to be handing out popcorn From Jumping Johnny's. Popcorn and
• 20:41
Speaker 7: that's one of the local farmers that we. Use and
• 20:43
Speaker 7: then in our Extra mile program that we do In
• 20:46
Speaker 7: clay And Mercer, county we have fresh dried fruits from
• 20:50
Speaker 7: another partner farmer that we.
• 20:53
Speaker 3: USE i, mean it's a wonderful, program it really really.
• 20:57
Speaker 3: Is any of its hard AND i know there are
• 20:58
Speaker 3: a lot of folks that provide food for, people AND
• 21:01
Speaker 3: i get. That but when you talk about it being
• 21:03
Speaker 3: a food bank like it, IS i, MEAN i GUESS
• 21:05
Speaker 3: i was shocked to learn that there's only two in
• 21:07
Speaker 3: the entire city Of West virginia that do what you
• 21:09
  Speaker 3: do like.
• 21:10
Speaker 7: This, yes and a lot of folks may call themselves
• 21:14
  Speaker 7: a food, bank but there's a difference between a food
• 21:16
Speaker 7: bank and a food. Pantry so as the food, bank
• 21:18
Speaker 7: we are working with the retail. Partners we're going, out
• 21:21
Speaker 7: we're sourcing that food and then we're distributing it to
• 21:25
Speaker 7: the agencies across the state and they're getting it at
• 21:28
Speaker 7: either a discounted rate or free and then they you,
• 21:31
Speaker 7: know it stays local in the.
• 21:32
Speaker 3: Community it amazes me how many people are out there
• 21:36
Speaker 3: doing this kind of. STUFF i, mean you, know whether it's,
• 21:39
Speaker 3: churches whether it's civic. ORGANIZATIONS i Mean West. Virginia you,
• 21:42
Speaker 3: know we're giving people here in these.
• 21:44
  Speaker 4: Parts we really.
• 21:45
  Speaker 7: Are.
• 21:46
Speaker 4: DAVID i want to go back to you for a.
• 21:47
Speaker 4: Moment you're with the law firm Of hendrickson And.
• 21:49
Speaker 3: Long, well other than just having a great space and
• 21:53
Speaker 3: Downtown charleston for these people to be set up in
• 21:55
Speaker 3: front Of obviously you believe in the program or you
• 21:58
Speaker 3: wouldn't be here today and you wouldn't be offering. That
• 22:00
Speaker 3: but what is it about this program that appeals to
• 22:01
Speaker 3: you and the folks at your law.
• 22:02
Speaker 11: Firm, well first of, All i've been giving money to
• 22:05
Speaker 11: the program for a number of. YEARS i don't know
• 22:06
Speaker 11: how many Years i've been doing, that AND i think
• 22:08
Speaker 11: a lot of other guys in our firm do as,
• 22:10
Speaker 11: well guys and girls as. Well and we looked at
• 22:14
Speaker 11: the program as. This they don't have any. WASTE i,
• 22:16
Speaker 11: mean they are very efficient in what they. Do there's
• 22:20
Speaker 11: not a lot of overhead in this, program and so
• 22:22
Speaker 11: it's dollars in dollars out to the people that need to,
• 22:25
Speaker 11: help and so we feel really good about supporting them
• 22:28
Speaker 11: and making sure that they get all everything they. Need
• 22:30
Speaker 11: and we just thought this could give them an added little,
• 22:33
Speaker 11: perk a little more, visibility especially during the time when
• 22:36
Speaker 11: we have all these out of state, people out of
• 22:38
Speaker 11: town people coming into our. Community you, know they might
• 22:41
Speaker 11: as well help us as.
• 22:41
Speaker 3: Well and you talked about one of the events that
• 22:45
Speaker 3: you're going to be sitting in front of. It but we're
• 22:46
Speaker 3: going to see you guys out from WHAT i, understand
• 22:48
Speaker 3: we're going to see you folks out a. Lot with The,
• 22:49
Speaker 3: mountain their Food, bank and with your law. Firm we're
• 22:51
Speaker 3: going to be a lot of different.
• 22:52
Speaker 11: Events, yes we're gonna try To we're going to try. To,
• 22:55
Speaker 11: well the first one is going to be the Art
• 22:56
Speaker 11: walk and when is That may thirty? First ironically are
• 23:00
Speaker 11: firm sponsors do our? Walk double dip, there and then
• 23:04
Speaker 11: we're going to try to do some things during regatta
• 23:06
Speaker 11: AND i think we'll be set up probably every day
• 23:08
Speaker 11: during The regratta as we plan right, now and then
• 23:11
Speaker 11: During christmas time at The Christmas.
• 23:14
Speaker 3: Preade and so primarily you're doing these things in Downtown.
• 23:19
Speaker 3: Charleston BUT i, Know, alicia if you would not be
• 23:22
Speaker 3: able to do what you do without partners like this,
• 23:25
Speaker 3: gentleman his law, firm and a lot of other businesses
• 23:27
Speaker 3: that get involved around the.
• 23:28
  Speaker 4: State, yes we.
• 23:29
Speaker 7: Could not do the work we do without our, donors
• 23:32
Speaker 7: without our community, partners our, volunteers they are really the
• 23:36
Speaker 7: heart of the food. Bank we rely on donations to
• 23:41
Speaker 7: help provide some of these food products to our.
• 23:44
Speaker 3: Neighbors do you have an appeal that you would have
• 23:47
Speaker 3: for businesses out there like The Hendrickson long for, FOLKS i,
• 23:51
Speaker 3: mean do you just, say, hey here's a, number here's
• 23:54
Speaker 3: a website you can, call we need.
• 23:56
Speaker 4: You how does that.
• 23:57
Speaker 7: Work, yes we do have some sponsorship opportunity and he's,
• 24:00
Speaker 7: available and you can go to our Website mountaineerfoodbank dot
• 24:04
Speaker 7: org and click on our programs to learn about our.
• 24:08
Speaker 7: Information you can contact me directly if you're interested in
• 24:11
Speaker 7: sponsoring a mobile pantry distribution or getting involved in Our
• 24:15
Speaker 7: Veterans table. Program Our Veterans table, program we're able to
• 24:19
Speaker 7: serve about fourteen hundred veterans a, month and that program
• 24:22
Speaker 7: cost it costs about forty dollars a box per, veteran
• 24:26
Speaker 7: and that program relies solely on grants and. Donations all, right.
• 24:30
Speaker 3: And our, VETERANS i, mean, look if you, can't if
• 24:33
Speaker 3: you can't help out, veterans THEN i MEAN i got
• 24:38
Speaker 3: not to be, edited not to. EDITORIALIZE i got no
• 24:39
Speaker 3: room for, you you, know because our veterans are the
• 24:41
Speaker 3: people that are that make me able to be able
• 24:44
Speaker 3: to come on this radio and talk and us to
• 24:46
Speaker 3: be able to do what we do in this.
• 24:48
Speaker 4: Country so we got to take care of our.
• 24:49
Speaker 3: Veterans and, know no state has ever done more for
• 24:54
Speaker 3: the country as far as serving as and losing people
• 24:57
Speaker 3: as as What West virginia. Has all, right let's go
• 25:01
Speaker 3: back and talk about this art walk for a. Moment
• 25:03
Speaker 3: it's happen On may. Thirty, first you guys are going
• 25:05
Speaker 3: to be set up out front. There what's that going
• 25:06
Speaker 3: to look. Like people can just make, donations they can
• 25:08
Speaker 3: bring stuff. Down what's that going to look.
• 25:10
Speaker 11: Like, well we're gonna have a huge banners that we're
• 25:12
Speaker 11: not gonna be hard to, see can't message on front
• 25:15
Speaker 11: of the, building and we're gonna have it up for
• 25:17
Speaker 11: a couple of days, hopefully and we're gonna have a
• 25:19
Speaker 11: couple of tables out. Front there will be a bench
• 25:22
Speaker 11: that can donate can goods and things like, that and
• 25:25
Speaker 11: then we'll also be able to take cash donations with
• 25:28
Speaker 11: a scanning device that we. Have we have people there
• 25:32
Speaker 11: the whole time that the art walk's going on and
• 25:35
Speaker 11: just trying to get the publicity. Out so we're right
• 25:38
Speaker 11: literally in the middle Of Capitol street at two, fourteen
• 25:42
Speaker 11: and so you can't miss. This everybody's got to walk
• 25:44
Speaker 11: by there at one point in, time and we hope
• 25:46
Speaker 11: they walk by there with a whole bag of canned
• 25:49
Speaker 11: goods and a bunch of, cash.
• 25:51
Speaker 3: IT'S i, mean you can't you can ask for more than.
• 25:53
Speaker 3: That and, again there's so many events going on in Downtown.
• 25:55
Speaker 3: Charleston then before you, guys we talked about The Charlie
• 25:57
Speaker 3: West Barbecue fest that's going, on going to have about
• 26:01
Speaker 3: ten thousand people come to town over the next week
• 26:03
Speaker 3: for the biking. Event you got regatta going, on so many,
• 26:08
Speaker 3: things things going on out on the boulevard and. Whatnot
• 26:11
Speaker 3: charleston is a happening place during the spring and summer
• 26:14
Speaker 3: months for that, matter, anytime so we should be able
• 26:16
Speaker 3: to do pretty well with. It and just remember these
• 26:18
Speaker 3: folks that when you come out for events like especially
• 26:21

• 30:58
Speaker 3: It we have a call every morning about eight, o'clock
• 31:01
Speaker 3: and believe it or, not when you listen to us
• 31:03
Speaker 3: on this station on the, network there actually is a
• 31:05
Speaker 3: plan to what we. Do you may not think it,
• 31:07
Speaker 3: sometimes especially when you listen to, me but there's actually
• 31:10
Speaker 3: is a little bit of a plan on what we.
• 31:11
Speaker 3: Do and so we have a call every morning to
• 31:12
Speaker 3: day o'clock with some of us just to kind of
• 31:14
Speaker 3: kind of plot out the day what we're going to
• 31:16
  Speaker 3: be doing.
• 31:17
Speaker 4: And that sort of.
• 31:17
Speaker 3: Thing and and somebody on the Call brad was on
• 31:20

Speaker 3: with us here. Momentarily the the big, NEWS i guess
• 31:48
Speaker 3: out of out of out of the news department was
• 31:53
Speaker 3: this whole thing With niosh yesterday In. Morgantown took a
• 31:55
Speaker 3: lot of people by by surprise that when we were
• 31:59
Speaker 3: Told monday night that those workers In morgantown and again
• 32:03
Speaker 3: you may be, thinking, well why is this important to this? Area,
• 32:06
Speaker 3: well it is important to this area for a number of.
• 32:07
Speaker 3: Reasons number, one it's well over one hundred or So
• 32:10
Speaker 3: West virginians that are.
• 32:12
Speaker 4: Taking a look at their job.
• 32:13
Speaker 3: Situation but also the court case was in court right
• 32:18
Speaker 3: down the street from us here In Judge eyrenberger's court
• 32:20
Speaker 3: room about the injunction to put a halt to everything
• 32:25
Speaker 3: followed by a coal. Miner because What niosh does is they,
• 32:31
Speaker 3: process they do their research and whatever when it comes
• 32:33
Speaker 3: to black lung benefits and so if people if coal
• 32:37
Speaker 3: miner has got a situation where he or she has
• 32:43
Speaker 3: questions about their, health if it doesn't go Through, NIOSH
• 32:47
Speaker 3: i mean everything was put on. Hold AND i think
• 32:48
Speaker 3: the biggest, issue and we talked about this on The
• 32:51
Speaker 3: Metro News midday, show the biggest issue was is that
• 32:53
Speaker 3: they were in sort of a holding. Pattern it was
• 32:57
Speaker 3: that they didn't know what's what their status, was and
• 33:03
Speaker 3: they really couldn't seem to get any, ANSWERS i, mean
• 33:07
Speaker 3: and and one of the issues was there was a
• 33:09
Speaker 3: particular suit filed by a coal miner uh and uh
• 33:12
Speaker 3: and he was kind of at the center of this whole.
• 33:14
Speaker 3: Thing and when you're when you're in that situation and
• 33:19
Speaker 3: they're trying to transfer you from one in this in
• 33:22
Speaker 3: one particular, case this coal miner needed an exact diagnosis
• 33:27
Speaker 3: and in exact, paperwork so he wanted to continue, working
• 33:30
Speaker 3: but they needed to move him from the inside of
• 33:34
Speaker 3: the coal mine to the, outside and everything was just
• 33:36
Speaker 3: kind of put up on.
• 33:37
Speaker 4: Hold and so we do have at least we have that.
• 33:42
Speaker 3: Now But Dave allen showing five E D live brought

• 34:04

• 34:05
Speaker 4: Tomorrow two days in a?
• 34:06
Speaker 3: Row you are, here and well it's because you're, important all,
• 34:13
Speaker 3: Right so we will keep you too long today BECAUSE
• 34:14
Speaker 3: i was telling the folks everything that you are covering.
• 34:17
Speaker 3: Today but so tell us to the timeline, here because
• 34:20
Speaker 3: it kind of took people by. SURPRISE i, mean Apparently
• 34:23
Speaker 3: monday night The niosh workers were told to report to.
• 34:26
Speaker 3: Work who were they told to report to work?
• 34:29
Speaker 6: BY i don't know the answer to, That, okay thank. You,
• 34:37
Speaker 6: SO i mean two things did happen almost at. Once
• 34:41
Speaker 6: Both Congressman Riley moore And Senator Shelley Moore, capito who
• 34:46
Speaker 6: indeed Are ken announced somewhat, triumphantly you, know at midday
• 34:53
Speaker 6: yesterday that These niosh workers one hundred or so would
• 34:58
Speaker 6: be going back to work that they've Been they, cited,
• 35:02
Speaker 6: uh conversations With Health secretary OF Rfk junior did not
• 35:09
Speaker 6: seem to know at that, moment you, Know, niosh those
• 35:13
Speaker 6: different things didn't seem to know which of Those niosh.
• 35:16
Speaker 6: Bookers it was later in the Day Judge burgers became
• 35:23
Speaker 6: public and it was a ruling that that the the
• 35:29
Speaker 6: federal government had seemingly abandoned its way of processing black
• 35:36
Speaker 6: lung claims and that by federal law needs to have a,
• 35:40
Speaker 6: way and she Ordered Judge, burger did the federal government
• 35:44
Speaker 6: to get back to business and do. It to do,
• 35:46
Speaker 6: that they're going to need those employees. Back uh and
• 35:49
Speaker 6: And Joe, burger you know means now words saying. Immediately
• 35:52
Speaker 6: so what the overlap? IS i am not, sure you.
• 35:55
Speaker 6: Know it may be that it was the exact same
• 35:59
Speaker 6: news coming down through two different. Channels it could be
• 36:03
Speaker 6: that it's A venn diagram and just a little bit of.
• 36:05
Speaker 6: Overlap we may learn more at this hearing this morning
• 36:08
Speaker 6: that began moments. Ago it's a budget hearing before The
• 36:13
Speaker 6: House Appropriations. Committee Congressman Riley moore is on that, committee
• 36:17
Speaker 6: But house Of Human services is being represented By Rfka
• 36:22
Speaker 6: junior In congress today And congressman more so that he
• 36:26
Speaker 6: would ask him our egor this morning more about the
• 36:30
Speaker 6: details of getting some of THOSE niash workers.
• 36:32
Speaker 3: Back it was kind of interesting the way the whole thing,
• 36:34
Speaker 3: broke AS i, said because YESTERDAY i was getting ready
• 36:37
Speaker 3: for The Metro news midday show with Thirteen news And
• 36:40
Speaker 3: Tonight live Anchor Amanda bear to myself Chief plug powered
• 36:43
Speaker 3: By Selango, law and we were getting ready for the
• 36:45
Speaker 3: show yesterday and they already Had meadows And wilson actually
• 36:50
Speaker 3: already Had Congressman Riley more scheduled to be on the show,
• 36:53
Speaker 3: anyway and then all of a, sudden he just kind
• 36:57
Speaker 3: of breaks that and then you can hear and we
• 36:59
Speaker 3: played clip. YESTERDAY i mentioned Its, midday urged people to
• 37:02
Speaker 3: go back and listen to. It you can Hear wilson In,
• 37:04
Speaker 3: meadows you, know kind of going, no, wait, wait, wait hold,
• 37:07
Speaker 3: it hold, up back, up as we used to, say you,
• 37:08
Speaker 3: know rack him up and shoot him. Again, uh well
• 37:10
Speaker 3: is that? Again and, uh and he just kind of
• 37:13
Speaker 3: threw that out. There and then news as you, said
• 37:15
Speaker 3: became you, know started to be, released and, Uh jeff
• 37:18
Speaker 3: was on with, us and then we were lucky enough
• 37:20
Speaker 3: to be able to garner an interview With Senator Shelley
• 37:22
Speaker 3: Moore capito. Yesterday she moved from things around to be
• 37:25
Speaker 3: able to be On Metro News midday with me yesterday
• 37:27
Speaker 3: to talk about, uh to talk about the whole situation and,
• 37:31
Speaker 3: uh and then, UH i DO i would give these
• 37:33
Speaker 3: guys a. PLUG i do think That Senator capitol And Senator,
• 37:36
Speaker 3: JUSTICE i do believe we're going to be on talk line.
• 37:38
Speaker 3: Today so SO i mean are we are?
• 37:42
  Speaker 4: We are we?
• 37:42
  Speaker 6: Done?
• 37:43
Speaker 4: Now is it a?
• 37:43
Speaker 3: DUNDEE i mean there's a hearing going, on as you
• 37:45
Speaker 3: said WITH. Rfk where where does it stand as we?
• 37:48
Speaker 6: Speak, Brad, YEAH i MEAN i think the black lung
• 37:52
Speaker 6: screening was at the center of all. THIS niosh does
• 37:57
Speaker 6: have additional, duties and it was hundreds of people in
• 38:00
Speaker 6: line to lose their jobs In. Morgantown so you know two,
• 38:04
Speaker 6: things the job losses and the significant employer In morgantown
• 38:10
Speaker 6: according to The senator and The, congressman about one hundred
• 38:14
Speaker 6: of those are coming. Back if they are the same
• 38:16
Speaker 6: people who do the black lung, screening then you know
• 38:20
Speaker 6: that THAT i think kicks off the board the question of,
• 38:23
Speaker 6: well how would you do black lung screening if you
• 38:26
Speaker 6: didn't have the people to do, it and if it's legally,
• 38:28
Speaker 6: required and you, know as a health matter for coal
• 38:31
Speaker 6: miners who are are developing the symptoms of black, lung
• 38:35
Speaker 6: it is it is very serious and it moves, fast
• 38:39
Speaker 6: so that could be more or less. Resolved but you
• 38:43
Speaker 6: know what we don't, KNOW i think is the other
• 38:46
Speaker 6: duties AT, niosh those other, employees whether whether they are
• 38:51
Speaker 6: still subject to reduction and forced, notifications probably still hundreds
• 38:56
Speaker 6: of them. ARE i, think you, know just doing the.
• 38:58
Speaker 6: MATH ahhs continues to say that it is it's reorganizing
• 39:05
Speaker 6: and assessing its roles of various things under under its
• 39:10
Speaker 6: under its. Scope so you, KNOW i think more to.
• 39:14
Speaker 6: Come it's this administration really on multiple, levels the federal,
• 39:19
Speaker 6: administration the executive, branch keeps you. Guessing Senator justice would
• 39:24
Speaker 6: say don't don't have your hair on. FIRE i mean
• 39:27
Speaker 6: they'll announce sounds really, dramatic and you know there there
• 39:34
Speaker 6: are questions and real. Worries and then is to scale
• 39:39
Speaker 6: it way, back maybe not to exactly where it, was
• 39:42
Speaker 6: but to kind of let the freak out happen and then.
• 39:46
  Speaker 6: Retreat so did.
• 39:49
Speaker 8: You just say freak?
• 39:50
  Speaker 6: Out?
• 39:50
Speaker 3: Brand did you just say freak? Out not to be
• 39:52
Speaker 3: confused with freak, off which you know is being talked
• 39:55
Speaker 3: about a lot in The diddy trial these. Days please
• 39:57
Speaker 3: tell me that's not what you, Meant.
• 40:00
Speaker 6: Uh freak? OUT i THOUGHT i was on the mountain.
• 40:03
Speaker 4: Here, well we wouldn't be playing that on the. MOUNTAIN
• 40:06
Speaker 4: i can tell you that right, now but go.
• 40:07
Speaker 6: AHEAD i, mean that's another word for What Senator justice would,
• 40:13
Speaker 6: say don't let your hair get on. FIRE i, mean
• 40:18
Speaker 6: but on the other, hand how are you supposed to
• 40:20
Speaker 6: react to things that are that are that are you,
• 40:23
Speaker 6: know very? Serious and it's it's at multiple. Levels it's the,
• 40:27
Speaker 6: tariffs the deportations are not necessarily just caravans and people
• 40:35
Speaker 6: coming over the. Border it's it's college students At marshall
• 40:38
Speaker 6: AND wvu who have gotten notifications that they're going to
• 40:41
Speaker 6: have to go back. Home things are happening just pretty
• 40:46
Speaker 6: facet of, life and initially they seem, extreme uh and then,
• 40:52
Speaker 6: eventually you, know the pattern does seem to be that
• 40:55
Speaker 6: that things get scaled, back and that appears to be
• 40:59
Speaker 6: what is beginning to happen with these jobs at The
• 41:03
Speaker 6: National institute For Occupational safety And.
• 41:05
Speaker 3: Health But Dave Allan chow and Five Vity live brought
• 41:07
Speaker 3: to you apart By Jute's Joot Security systems as a
• 41:10
Speaker 3: protected By jude Dot com or follow them On.
• 41:12
Speaker 4: Facebook all, Right, BRAD i know you're.
• 41:13
Speaker 3: Busy before we let you, go just give me about you,
• 41:15
Speaker 3: know thirty to forty five seconds or. So you're keep
• 41:17
Speaker 3: a nine on the state School board meeting that's happening
• 41:19
Speaker 3: at ten o'clock this.
• 41:20
Speaker 4: Morning talk about, that.
• 41:22
Speaker 6: You, know Somehow i'm Doing congress and The state School
• 41:24
Speaker 6: board at the same. Time thank goodness for streaming. Technology,
• 41:27
Speaker 6: yes The state School board has multiple issues at the
• 41:31
Speaker 6: ten am. Meeting if you're out there and listener, land
• 41:33
Speaker 6: you should listen to talk line at ten, am but
• 41:36
Speaker 6: you could keep half an eye on the streaming of
• 41:39
Speaker 6: The West Virginia state School. Board and What i'm watching
• 41:43
Speaker 6: for is first public comment about the governor's executive order
• 41:49
Speaker 6: saying that it needs to abide by religious exemptions to
• 41:54
Speaker 6: its vaccination requirement policies in the. Schools that's getting a
• 41:59
Speaker 6: pretty good amount of push, fact because the direct word
• 42:02
Speaker 6: of state law says, differently it's as kids have to
• 42:05
Speaker 6: have a certain number of vaccinations and the only exemption
• 42:09
Speaker 6: is for medical, reasons not religious in state. Law so
• 42:14
Speaker 6: that's going to GET i, think significant attention during the
• 42:16
Speaker 6: public comment period of That State board. Meeting there is
• 42:19
Speaker 6: also a a legal action section where the State board
• 42:27
Speaker 6: will discuss sort of it's legal status of various. Things
• 42:32
Speaker 6: the vaccine executive order by the governor is mentioned in
• 42:36
Speaker 6: that section of the. Agenda they the board could actually
• 42:39
Speaker 6: go into private session to discuss legal, Matters so that
• 42:44
Speaker 6: would be of great disappointment for me Because i'm not.
• 42:46
Speaker 6: Invited but those are the main things with today's state
• 42:50
Speaker 6: school board, meeting AND i MEAN i think it's going
• 42:55
Speaker 6: to be of significant public.
• 42:56
Speaker 3: Interest, absolutely and your brands you said you're going to
• 42:59
Speaker 3: be covering that in ten thousand other things a, day
• 43:01
Speaker 3: along with our other members of the news team here listen,
