- 1:29Sean McAllister: Welcome to Vegas Revealed, episode 238.
- 1:32Sean McAllister: Sean McAllister here, along with Dana Roselli.
- 1:36Sean McAllister: And do you have your jacket ready, Dana?
- 1:38Dayna Roselli: No.
- 1:38unknown: Well.
- 1:39Dayna Roselli: I don't like to wear jackets.
- 1:41Dayna Roselli: I don't even wear them in the winter.
- 1:43Sean McAllister: Well, you may want to reconsider because we are about to go from triple digits down to double digits for the first time in months.
- 1:51Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 1:51Dayna Roselli: And it's the best feeling.
- 1:53Dayna Roselli: The 90s are like my favorite.
- 1:55Dayna Roselli: Ah, it's so nice out, but warm enough to still swim, lay in the sun.
- 2:00Dayna Roselli: So it's like the best of both worlds.
- 2:02Sean McAllister: It is.
- 2:02Dayna Roselli: It really is.
- 2:03Dayna Roselli: And today it's a little smoky in Las Vegas because there's California wildfires that are kind of blowing in.
- 2:09Dayna Roselli: Um, so we just started to cool down and now we've got smoky skies.
- 2:14Sean McAllister: Yeah, and that's keeping us inside, just like the excessive heat has been doing.
- 2:19Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 2:19Sean McAllister: Now that we finally get a break, it's really smoky.
- 2:23Sean McAllister: And on that note, I hope all of the firefighters who are out there uh, you know, trying to keep everybody safe are keeping themselves safe out there because those wildfire conditions can really whip up on a dime and and turn for the worse.
- 2:42Sean McAllister: So hopefully they're out there getting a handle on things, keeping the flames away from populated areas as much as possible.
- 2:50Sean McAllister: And again, just hoping that the crews stay safe as they're out there battling those flames.
- 2:55Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and it's been hot in California too.
- 2:56Dayna Roselli: They've had a heat wave.
- 2:58Dayna Roselli: And so um, this kind of moves over to, you know, once that all clears out, hopefully everyone is safe and people um start, you know, getting on the road and doing some vacationing again.
- 3:08Dayna Roselli: I know it's after Labor Day and everyone's kind of in their routine, but I think we'll start to see visitors roll in again soon.
- 3:14Dayna Roselli: You know, it it brings up the the conversation of the Bright Line high-speed train, which is in the works.
- 3:20Dayna Roselli: It's not gonna, you know, open or be fully functional for a long time, I think 2028.
- 3:25Dayna Roselli: But we did get to see what those um luxury cars are gonna look like.
- 3:29Dayna Roselli: And this is a high-speed train that'll be going from Las Vegas to Southern California and back.
- 3:36Dayna Roselli: And a lot of people are excited about it because this has been something that people have wanted for a very long time.
- 3:41Sean McAllister: Well, people, including the current mayor of Las Vegas, Carolyn Goodman, she has been on the case to try and get California to widen its section of the I-15 freeway on their side of the Nevada-California border, because Nevada has done a lot to widen the lanes and handle the traffic a little bit better.
- 4:04Sean McAllister: But once you get to the California side, it goes back down essentially to two lanes of traffic in each direction.
- 4:11Sean McAllister: Yeah, you know, when you have mass volumes of cars coming in and out of town each weekend, that gets backed up really quick.
- 4:19Sean McAllister: And if there's an accident or someone with engine trouble, that section of road can come to a standstill almost immediately.
- 4:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's it's a major thing.
- 4:28Dayna Roselli: I know so many people say I would never leave on a Friday morning and I won't come back on a Sunday and all that.
- 4:33Dayna Roselli: I mean, everyone plans their, you know, trip if they're gonna hit the road to Southern California around that.
- 4:40Dayna Roselli: Because if you're aware of it, other people don't care and they think, you know, it's not gonna happen to me, and then you get stuck and there's no way out.
- 4:49Sean McAllister: But this Bright Line West uh transportation system is supposed to alleviate some of that congestion, at least.
- 4:57Sean McAllister: Um, and this is a a high-speed train that goes from Las Vegas uh to Southern California, out to Rancho Cucamonga, is where they're planning on terminating bright line service and where you can pick up other rail service into Los Angeles.
- 5:17Sean McAllister: Um, but the train is supposed to go, it's an electric train up to 200 miles per hour, which would cut the time in half from what it would normally take to drive out to Southern California.
- 5:29Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 5:30Dayna Roselli: I mean, the big issue in the comments that you'll see surrounding this, we do not know the cost of a ticket yet, but there have been some articles out there saying it could cost around$400 per person.
- 5:41Dayna Roselli: So the big question is is like, is it worth it when you can hop on a spirit flight for 40 bucks or a southwest flight for 59 or buy in advance a jet suite quick, you know, flight to Burbank for, you know, sometimes 99 bucks?
- 5:57Dayna Roselli: Like, well, I don't I don't know.
- 6:00Dayna Roselli: I mean, I I don't know.
- 6:01Dayna Roselli: That's a lot of money.
- 6:03Sean McAllister: It is.
- 6:03Sean McAllister: It's a lot of money.
- 6:05Dayna Roselli: And we don't know yet, though.
- 6:07Dayna Roselli: We don't know that that's a confirmed, you know, that's not a confirmed price.
- 6:10Sean McAllister: Yeah, pricing has not been nailed down yet.
- 6:13Sean McAllister: Um it looks like it is kind, at least from the renderings that have just been released, that's the newest bit of information with Bright Line West.
- 6:22Sean McAllister: Um, it looks like it's more of a luxury kind of rail experience than uh let's just say it's it doesn't look like it's going to be the Greyhound bus on on rail tracks.
- 6:36Dayna Roselli: Yeah, definitely.
- 6:37Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and there are people that comment underneath that I think there's one in Florida or something or somewhere else.
- 6:42Sean McAllister: They're currently operating in Florida between Orlando and Miami.
- 6:45Dayna Roselli: And they seem to love it.
- 6:46Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 6:46Dayna Roselli: So they're like, oh great, bring it on.
- 6:48Dayna Roselli: They love it.
- 6:48Dayna Roselli: So it might be someone too who does like a lot of business.
- 6:51Dayna Roselli: Maybe there's going to be packages.
- 6:52Dayna Roselli: Like, hey, if you're going back and forth to SoCal for work, meetings, whatever, maybe it's something where, you know, this is better for you because you want more of a little elevated experience to open up your laptop, do your work, get a drink.
- 7:07Sean McAllister: Well, and for that kind of thing, it would make sense if there was like an annual pass kind of option.
- 7:11Sean McAllister: Right.
- 7:11Sean McAllister: Or a multi-pass kind of a deal, which I'm sure that they've got to have in the pipeline.
- 7:17Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 7:18Dayna Roselli: I wonder.
- 7:18Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I think everyone was surprised about the, you know, it's gonna cost around$400 per person.
- 7:23Dayna Roselli: And that's stuck in everyone's heads.
- 7:25Dayna Roselli: We'll have to wait and see what it really will cost.
- 7:28Dayna Roselli: But for now, it looks really nice.
- 7:29Dayna Roselli: And hey, it's an option.
- 7:31Dayna Roselli: The more options, the better.
- 7:32Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 7:32Sean McAllister: And the other thing that people are saying is why would I pay$400 just to get to Rancho Cucamonga?
- 7:38Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 7:39Sean McAllister: Like if I want to get into Los Angeles, that's a whole thing where you have to get your bags off the train.
- 7:45Sean McAllister: You have to transfer to a different rail system to get into Los Angeles and travel around Southern California that way.
- 7:52Sean McAllister: So that's one of the other things that people are saying.
- 7:55Sean McAllister: But as you said, having another option is going to be good.
- 8:01Sean McAllister: And Bright Line is building its flagship rail station.
- 8:05Sean McAllister: Bright Line West is building its flagship station here in uh Las Vegas on south on Las Vegas Boulevard.
- 8:13Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that'll be cool too.
- 8:14Dayna Roselli: Definitely.
- 8:15Dayna Roselli: And this is all gonna be up and running just in time for the Olympics, which will be in Los Angeles.
- 8:20Sean McAllister: Yeah, that's the plan.
- 8:21Sean McAllister: So we'll see.
- 8:22Sean McAllister: So and the tracks, by the way, are supposed to run right down the median of uh the I-15 corridor.
- 8:29Sean McAllister: Wow.
- 8:29Sean McAllister: So, you know, you have one lane of traffic on one side, the other lane of traffic on the other, and the train going right down the center.
- 8:36Dayna Roselli: Yeah, interesting.
- 8:37Dayna Roselli: Well, the more options, the better, like you just said, and I just said, I mean, we just I feel like we need more options to get around.
- 8:44Dayna Roselli: We just we don't have tons.
- 8:46Sean McAllister: No, we don't.
- 8:47Dayna Roselli: And it's strange because you know, we're such a a place that people want to come to and and they want to come for two days.
- 8:54Dayna Roselli: Some people want to come for 10, but you know, um, even in town, I mean, we're getting more and more options for that kind of thing, too.
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: You know, we've got the monorail, the Vegas loop, we've got Ubers, we've got taxis.
- 9:04Sean McAllister: So well, what boggles my mind is that Las Vegas was kind of born as a railroad town.
- 9:10Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 9:10Sean McAllister: And then at some point along the way, we kind of abandoned the whole idea of being a railroad town, and uh where that could have been such a great way to get people in and out of the the strip and you know, connect all these different parts of the Las Vegas Valley as it grew.
- 9:30Sean McAllister: But that for some reason did not happen.
- 9:33Dayna Roselli: I know we do have trains come through, but not like passenger trains.
- 9:36Dayna Roselli: No, and the only reason I remembered that was that during COVID when it was quiet and you could hear like a pin drop, I would sit on my balcony and I would hear a train like go by.
- 9:47Dayna Roselli: And I was like, or the train uh the whistle.
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: The whistle.
- 9:51Dayna Roselli: I was gonna call it a horn.
- 9:52Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I was like, wait, we have a train nearby?
- 9:54Dayna Roselli: And then I was like, Oh yeah, the tracks over behind the fashion show mall.
- 9:57Sean McAllister: Right.
- 9:57Sean McAllister: And I used to get stopped.
- 9:59Sean McAllister: I lived over in Green Valley on like the east side, the southeast side of Las Vegas.
- 10:04Sean McAllister: And when I worked at the TV station, I would just take surface streets, and there were times when I would get stopped at the railroad crossing over there, and I would it would make me late for work.
- 10:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that was always uh, I know, the worst, right?
- 10:19Dayna Roselli: Hey, well, let's talk about a new show on the Las Vegas strip over at the link.
- 10:24Dayna Roselli: I went to Disco Show.
- 10:25Dayna Roselli: This is by Spiegel World.
- 10:26Dayna Roselli: They're the same group that put on, uh puts on uh the very successful show Absinthe.
- 10:32Dayna Roselli: Also, um, they have many other Atomic Saloon, they've got Super Freako over at the Cosmopolitan, and so a number of different shows in town.
- 10:41Dayna Roselli: And now they have Disco Show.
- 10:42Dayna Roselli: This has been in the works for some time.
- 10:44Dayna Roselli: It's at the link, and it's it's multifaceted because they've got Diner Ross, which is a restaurant, then they have The Glitter Loft, which is uh like a bar, and then they have 99 Prints, and then they have the actual show Disco Show, but they all kind of come together, it's an experience.
- 11:02Sean McAllister: I mean, this looked like quite the opening party.
- 11:06Sean McAllister: I was out of town for a college football game, so I wasn't able to go over there, but man, the pictures, the videos that I saw, it looked like it was a cum dinger of a party.
- 11:18Dayna Roselli: It was, it was a great party.
- 11:20Dayna Roselli: First of all, I mean, that makes it really fun because you know, when we have the the media openings that we attend, we know all the people that are going.
- 11:27Dayna Roselli: It's different colleagues, friends we've known for a long time in our world.
- 11:31Dayna Roselli: So that always makes it really fun.
- 11:32Dayna Roselli: Um, you know, executives, there were tons of casino executives there and stuff.
- 11:36Dayna Roselli: And it was fun to go to a show and see everyone, but I could tell that everyone was really kind of embracing this whole concept.
- 11:45Dayna Roselli: So here's the concept, and here's why you may want to go for a really good time because it's different, first of all.
- 11:50Dayna Roselli: A disco show, you walk into a room and there are no seats.
- 11:54Dayna Roselli: You are on a dance floor, you know, a disco dance floor where the squares change colors, you know, underneath you.
- 12:00Sean McAllister: So it's like a total studio 54 throwback vibe.
- 12:04Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 12:04Sean McAllister: Saturday night fever kind of thing.
- 12:06Dayna Roselli: All of it.
- 12:07Dayna Roselli: And you dance a little bit, you know, before, but there's a whole story that happens around you, centered around dance.
- 12:13Dayna Roselli: And I don't even know if I want to really get into the details because I feel like it's fun to see unfold.
- 12:18Sean McAllister: To experience it, yeah.
- 12:19Dayna Roselli: So I'm not gonna go there.
- 12:20Dayna Roselli: So um, but it it's kind of like a performance around you, and you also do learn some dance moves from the host, and it's you dance the whole time and watch, and they they bring out um, they kind of roll out these platforms and they do some things on the dance floor.
- 12:36Dayna Roselli: I I I the costumes are great, the cast is, you know, pretty big cast, great dancers.
- 12:42Dayna Roselli: It's just a fun time.
- 12:44Dayna Roselli: And then you can continue dancing after that, and then you can spill out, you know, into the glitter loft and and have a drink.
- 12:50Dayna Roselli: It's a great time and it's an experience.
- 12:54Sean McAllister: Well, and it it looked to me like this would be a great alternative.
- 12:57Sean McAllister: I've obviously not been over to experience it in person yet, but it looked like it would be a great alternative to like a nightclub night out.
- 13:06Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 13:07Sean McAllister: Instead of going to you know, one of the many mega clubs that we have, like go over here to disco show and your whole nights taken care of.
- 13:15Dayna Roselli: Uh yeah, you can do this, you can do that.
- 13:16Dayna Roselli: I mean, that's a thing.
- 13:17Dayna Roselli: Group, I think group packages and groups will go, and it is a great option.
- 13:22Dayna Roselli: And um, I I think people are gonna want to do this with their friends.
- 13:25Dayna Roselli: And that's what I also was kind of trying to say.
- 13:27Dayna Roselli: Like with all of us knowing each other, it was even, you know, it was fun mixed in with other people we didn't know, but to be with friends is fun.
- 13:35Dayna Roselli: And so this is something I think if you're coming into town, whether you're couples or groups of friends, you will want to do.
- 13:41Dayna Roselli: Um, it's very unique, you know.
- 13:43Dayna Roselli: You've got to kind of like enter into this one room, go down this hallway, go up, go up here, you know, move around.
- 13:49Dayna Roselli: It's like just like if you from and we don't know, I don't know because I was a baby in the 70s, but I from what we see in movies and on television, and we hear the stories from our parents, um, it was kind of like entering that era, the way that you know, the rooms weren't like these big massive nightclubs like we have now, like Omnias and XS and all that.
- 14:13Dayna Roselli: You know, it was you turn this corner, you go up here, you see so and so, you da-da-da.
- 14:18Dayna Roselli: So it was a blast.
- 14:19Dayna Roselli: Um, I just I can't recommend it enough.
- 14:22Dayna Roselli: And here's the great thing I went to look to see how much tickets are, and they're just basically a flat$99.
- 14:27Dayna Roselli: Wow.
- 14:28Sean McAllister: So, yeah, not bad.
- 14:29Sean McAllister: I mean, especially, you know, like I was saying, if you were doing that in place of a night out, I mean, that's a really reasonable price to get in and have an entire evening of entertainment, dancing, different venues to wander around.
- 14:46Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it it really is cool.
- 14:48Dayna Roselli: I'm excited for you to try it out.
- 14:50Dayna Roselli: I mean, I can't say enough about it.
- 14:51Dayna Roselli: I thought it was really fun and different.
- 14:53Dayna Roselli: Um, and people are like, How did you like it?
- 14:55Dayna Roselli: And I feel like, how did you like it?
- 14:56Dayna Roselli: I keep getting that as I'm like, I really enjoyed it.
- 14:59Dayna Roselli: Um, I think some people are even going to enjoy it even more if they really get into it.
- 15:05Dayna Roselli: Maybe you're gonna do the whole getup, you know, go in your disco outfit and do all that.
- 15:09Dayna Roselli: Um, and then people might be like, Oh, maybe this isn't for me.
- 15:13Dayna Roselli: I don't, I don't know, I don't like dancing, or I don't, you know, whatever.
- 15:16Dayna Roselli: So I mean, I think just um you'll know yourself.
- 15:19Dayna Roselli: And look at our social media videos um that we posted on our accounts because you'll be able to get a better idea of what to expect.
- 15:27Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 15:27Sean McAllister: So disco show is brand new over at the Link Hotel and Casino.
- 15:33Sean McAllister: Uh, something else, an entertainment attraction that's also brand new here in Las Vegas is VU2, which is the immersive concert film experience of U2's residency over at the sphere.
- 15:48Sean McAllister: We went over there for the opening night of this film, and uh man, uh I was blown away by uh how much it felt like you were uh in the in the sphere actually watching the band in front of you.
- 16:06Sean McAllister: It did not feel like you were watching a movie.
- 16:09Sean McAllister: No, it felt like uh you two was right in front of you performing and sounded, and uh there was oh my gosh, so much to it.
- 16:18Dayna Roselli: And it's interesting because I had have seen you two in person, but we had a group of eight, and I was the only one who had seen you two.
- 16:24Dayna Roselli: So it was fun to look at your faces, and I was like, wow, they're really impressed by this.
- 16:28Dayna Roselli: You and everyone, like your friend Brian, everyone was like, Wow, this is incredible.
- 16:33Sean McAllister: I mean, I had to keep reminding myself that I was watching a film and not uh the actual band.
- 16:41Sean McAllister: The way that they so basically they used the big sky camera system, which is the camera system that was designed specifically for footage to be shown inside the sphere.
- 16:54Sean McAllister: They used that camera system to film the U2 concert.
- 16:57Sean McAllister: So it was filmed specifically for that venue, and you can tell.
- 17:05Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's uh and even the sounds of the crowd and like everything, you know.
- 17:10Dayna Roselli: Did we feel a little vibration too on our seats?
- 17:12Sean McAllister: And yes, you could tell the impactful moments of music and you know, impactful moments of the the concert, your seat rattled, but but it felt appropriate.
- 17:26Sean McAllister: It just felt like it was part of the experience.
- 17:28Sean McAllister: It was part of it, yes.
- 17:29Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it it really was incredible.
- 17:31Dayna Roselli: We were extremely impressed, and we're excited.
- 17:34Dayna Roselli: We're actually gonna be interviewing um Andrew Schulkind of Sphere.
- 17:39Dayna Roselli: He's actually shot the the film with that big sky, like you mentioned.
- 17:45Sean McAllister: Yeah, he's in charge of you know capturing all of the images for Sphere using that camera system.
- 17:51Sean McAllister: So yeah, yeah, we have an interview with him coming up.
- 17:54Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we do.
- 17:55Dayna Roselli: We have it set up.
- 17:56Dayna Roselli: We haven't done it yet.
- 17:57Dayna Roselli: So we want to talk more about this and get a little more in depth and maybe play some of that um next week so that you can learn a little bit more.
- 18:04Dayna Roselli: We're excited.
- 18:05Dayna Roselli: We have a lot of questions for him.
- 18:06Dayna Roselli: That's so many.
- 18:07Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 18:08Dayna Roselli: Also, somebody uh tweeted us and said, Um, hey, can you guys also talk about um how you got there to this to Sphere?
- 18:15Dayna Roselli: Um, they wanted to know the best way.
- 18:17Dayna Roselli: They did call that close that bridge from Venetian to Sphere for a little while.
- 18:22Sean McAllister: And I believe even that night that we went over there for the opening, that bridge, the pedestrian bridge, was still closed.
- 18:29Dayna Roselli: Yeah, they sent us an alert and said it's closed, find another way to get there.
- 18:32Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 18:33Dayna Roselli: And they listed some options.
- 18:35Dayna Roselli: So I took an Uber, you drove.
- 18:38Sean McAllister: I drove.
- 18:39Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 18:39Sean McAllister: And I parked at uh the basically there's this office professional complex right behind the sphere, the Howard Hughes Center.
- 18:51Sean McAllister: And there are some parking garages there where you can pay for parking.
- 18:54Sean McAllister: It was$13.
- 18:56Sean McAllister: Um, we parked on it's actually a pretty good view as well.
- 19:01Sean McAllister: We parked on the top of the parking garage, and you get a great view of the sphere from right there.
- 19:06Sean McAllister: So if you want to take selfies with the sphere in the background, that's the place to do it.
- 19:12Sean McAllister: Um and it's easy in and out.
- 19:14Sean McAllister: You don't have to deal with the traffic on Sands Avenue, which is the road right next to the sphere, right next to the Venetian and Palazzo that gets super congested, especially you know, when people are trying to get in or out of the shows at Sphere.
- 19:30Sean McAllister: So for us, it was a really easy option to park at the uh parking garages that they have open at the Howard Hughes Center.
- 19:40Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 19:41Dayna Roselli: And and I live close by.
- 19:42Dayna Roselli: So if you are visiting or in town, you'll be close by too at one of the hotels on the strip, I'm assuming.
- 19:48Dayna Roselli: Um, but I took an Uber, it was$11 there.
- 19:52Dayna Roselli: I think on the way home it was like$12.
- 19:54Dayna Roselli: It wasn't bad.
- 19:55Dayna Roselli: It drops you off right uh near the entrance to the sphere.
- 19:59Dayna Roselli: And then when you want to leave, you walk out a little ways and the Uber pickup.
- 20:03Dayna Roselli: Um, you started walking to your car, and I think we waited about three minutes after that for our Uber to arrive, and it was fine.
- 20:09Dayna Roselli: So that was an option too, and it was easy.
- 20:11Sean McAllister: Yeah, they've got a pretty good system set up over there for uh for the Uber lift uh pickup drop-off areas.
- 20:19Sean McAllister: Uh, they do have some uh parking lots on site that you can again pre-pay for your uh parking pass, which that's through Ticketmaster.
- 20:31Dayna Roselli: Ticketmaster, yeah.
- 20:32Sean McAllister: You just go on when you're buying tickets, you can go on and and click the parking pass thing too.
- 20:38Sean McAllister: I think though on-site parking might have been like$18.
- 20:41Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I think I saw 18 to like 28.
- 20:43Dayna Roselli: I don't know if it gets closer or something like that.
- 20:46Dayna Roselli: It's around that.
- 20:47Dayna Roselli: Don't quote us on that.
- 20:48Sean McAllister: Yeah, so it's not bad.
- 20:49Sean McAllister: It's around there though.
- 20:50Sean McAllister: It was a quick browse.
- 20:51Dayna Roselli: All right, so yeah, we'll have more on that.
- 20:53Dayna Roselli: Um, but it's really cool, and I'm so happy that people who didn't get to experience you two in person will be able to experience this.
- 20:59Dayna Roselli: It's a lesser price point, and it really is a great experience.
- 21:03Dayna Roselli: Feels like you're there.
- 21:04Dayna Roselli: And if you haven't gotten inside the sphere yet, this is your chance.
- 21:07Sean McAllister: It is, and one thing that I think people should keep in mind is to go into seeing this film as if you were going to an actual concert.
- 21:20Sean McAllister: There were people up dancing in their seats, like it's that kind of a vibe.
- 21:25Sean McAllister: I think that we were when we were there, it was like people didn't know what to expect.
- 21:29Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 21:30Sean McAllister: But now that you do know what to expect, because we're telling you about it, go into it with in the mindset that you're going to see a concert because you are.
- 21:39Dayna Roselli: Mm-hmm.
- 21:40Dayna Roselli: You are.
- 21:40Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 21:41Dayna Roselli: And it's great.
- 21:43Dayna Roselli: Experience the whole thing.
- 21:44Dayna Roselli: Go in, get a beverage, you know, check out the the the lobby there with the um with a robot.
- 21:52Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 21:53Dayna Roselli: Uh it's a cool, it's a cool experience.
- 21:55Dayna Roselli: So go enjoy.
- 21:56Dayna Roselli: Um, if especially if you can't afford to go to one of these.
- 22:00Dayna Roselli: Big shows like the Eagles that are coming up and all that.
- 22:02Dayna Roselli: I mean, maybe this is this is the option for you.
- 22:05Sean McAllister: Yeah, for sure.
- 22:06Sean McAllister: Hey, if you live in Las Vegas and you have for a long time, you know celebrity columnist Norm Clark, who's now retired, but for years covered all of the celebrity sightings and all the gossipy, rumory, kind of good juicy stuff that went on in Las Vegas.
- 22:23Dayna Roselli: Yeah, he was a columnist for the Review Journal, and everyone would pick up Norm's Column to see who was where and what was happening.
- 22:30Dayna Roselli: And he was always known as like uh you don't want to be in Norm's Column because that means he was spilling the dirt on something.
- 22:37Dayna Roselli: So we did an uh interview with Norm.
- 22:39Dayna Roselli: Um we wanted to talk to him about like what it was like to cover Las Vegas, you know.
- 22:43Dayna Roselli: I don't want to say back in the day, it wasn't that long ago, but you know, when you and I were living here, about 2004-ish.
- 22:50Sean McAllister: Yeah, early 2000s, and this is when like that celebrity scene was really just taking off.
- 22:56Sean McAllister: Paris Hilton was out here all the time.
- 22:58Sean McAllister: Britney Spear, I mean, everybody would come out here and it was before social media.
- 23:05Sean McAllister: So if you wanted to know what was going on, you had to read the paper, right?
- 23:09Sean McAllister: And Norm was the go-to.
- 23:11Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 23:12Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and you know, and then I think like Twitter kind of started getting popular, and I remember Norm was on on Twitter too, but you know, it was a whole new way.
- 23:20Dayna Roselli: Anyway, we talked to Norm.
- 23:21Dayna Roselli: Listen, Norm is actually living with stage four cancer, and it's remarkable.
- 23:27Dayna Roselli: He has been living with it for over 10 years.
- 23:30Dayna Roselli: He's been getting help from comprehensive cancer centers of Nevada, uh, here in the Las Vegas area.
- 23:37Dayna Roselli: And he says, you know what?
- 23:38Dayna Roselli: It's just proof that you can live with cancer.
- 23:41Dayna Roselli: It's an illness, but it is not a death sentence.
- 23:45Dayna Roselli: Um, and he just had got done doing some traveling.
- 23:48Dayna Roselli: He's writing a book right now that is scheduled to come out sometime in December.
- 23:52Dayna Roselli: Um, so we wanted to get an update with Norm.
- 23:55Dayna Roselli: We had such a great uh emotional interview.
- 23:57Dayna Roselli: We had a lot of laughs, but um, just listen to a little bit of that interview.
- 24:02Dayna Roselli: And then we're also putting it uh the big interview will be in our television show, and then we'll also be putting it on our YouTube.
- 24:09Dayna Roselli: But but here's Norm Clark.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: One of my stock and trades was um celebrities behaving badly.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: That's that upset some people.
- 24:19Dayna Roselli: Did it bother you when these people would come at you, or was that what you no?
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: I didn't I didn't know, but I here's one thing.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: That is a really that's really good question because the one thing I thought was if this is gonna be a successful column, the readers are gonna have to have to know that I'm just not gonna be an ass kisser.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: Do you miss it?
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, do I miss it?
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: I I I was born to to cover the Las Vegas strip.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: I that was just the greatest.
- 24:54Dayna Roselli: And also, you know, Norm was known for celebrity sightings, right?
- 24:57Dayna Roselli: And you're like, oh, big deal.
- 24:58Dayna Roselli: Well, it is a big deal because in Las Vegas, you know, Norm's sightings, a lot of them happened at the Palms.
- 25:05Dayna Roselli: Yeah, they did.
- 25:05Dayna Roselli: You know, when what was it, the Real World?
- 25:08Dayna Roselli: Yeah, was there it the Palms became very popular and more and more celebrities started going there.
- 25:13Dayna Roselli: And the reason that more and more celebrities started going there is because Norm would include sightings.
- 25:18Dayna Roselli: He had some insiders over at the Palms.
- 25:21Dayna Roselli: And people would then go book a room there because they'd be like, ooh, you know, Britney Spears was seen here, or this person was seen there.
- 25:30Dayna Roselli: And it was the place that people wanted to be.
- 25:32Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 25:32Sean McAllister: They would book a room, book a dinner reservation, go to Rain Nightclub where everyone was partying back in those days.
- 25:41Dayna Roselli: And it would be everything from so-and-so was at nine steakhouse, or this person was seen, you know, whatever, gambling.
- 25:48Dayna Roselli: And and the reason when I say the palms is because, you know, that was a a big spot where he had insiders.
- 25:54Dayna Roselli: And he tells us that he used to get calls from other people, like at the Mirage, like, say a dealer, like you never cover the Mirage.
- 26:00Dayna Roselli: And he said, like, people from the Mirage are not sending me tips.
- 26:04unknown: Right.
- 26:04Dayna Roselli: You guys need to send me tips.
- 26:06Dayna Roselli: I will definitely put them in.
- 26:08Dayna Roselli: And he said, even another casino company called him in for a big meeting and were trying to like ban him, but then realized, you know what?
- 26:14Dayna Roselli: If Norm doesn't put sightings in from, like, just I'm just gonna use an example, MGM, then he's going to put sightings in from the palms and they're gonna get all the publicity.
- 26:25Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 26:25Dayna Roselli: And use an example of an actor that came in to watch a boxing match, and they were staying at just say MGM Grand, and they also went to dinner at the Palms.
- 26:36Dayna Roselli: Well, the Palms got the mention.
- 26:38Dayna Roselli: So-and-so was seen eating at the Palms, and then MGM's like, wait a minute, he was actually staying here.
- 26:44Dayna Roselli: We flew him in, blah, blah, blah.
- 26:46Dayna Roselli: Well, if you ban Norm, he's not gonna do a sighting there.
- 26:49Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 26:50Dayna Roselli: So he was saying how you know it started to really unravel, and people realize they needed Norm sighting, so he would get tips from everyone.
- 26:58Sean McAllister: He and he, boy, did he ever.
- 27:01Sean McAllister: So it was great to sit down and have a conversation with Norm, who's been kind of a part of the pop culture scene here in modern Las Vegas for a while now.
- 27:13Sean McAllister: I'm looking forward to uh his new book.
- 27:15Dayna Roselli: Yeah, me too.
- 27:16Dayna Roselli: It should be really good.
- 27:17Dayna Roselli: He's got stories in there for days.
- 27:19Dayna Roselli: So and he was even saying it's really hard to condense.
- 27:22Dayna Roselli: So, anyway, we will be putting that on our YouTube if you'd like to look at the full interview, and um we look forward to sharing it with you.
- 27:30Sean McAllister: And you know, one event where we know celebrities are going to be uh popping into town for is the Formula One race coming up once again in November.
- 27:42Sean McAllister: And uh they're really I mean, it's full force.
- 27:45Sean McAllister: The track setup is happening now, and we were just invited over to check out uh what some of the luxury hospitality offerings are going to be like for the race this year.
- 27:57Dayna Roselli: Yeah, they had a beautiful setup to show us the examples, and it looks stunning.
- 28:02Dayna Roselli: There are a lot of options.
- 28:04Dayna Roselli: Uh, we talked to Ashley Goodhue White, she's a senior VP of event production and also the Grand Prix Plaza General Manager, and she fills us in on some of the experiences.
- 28:14SPEAKER_04: So there's three different experiences within side of our secondary hospitality program.
- 28:18SPEAKER_04: And so as you go through the space today, you'll see the fit and finish, as we call it, of each of the different experiences.
- 28:25SPEAKER_04: And so where we're standing currently is what our sky box would look like.
- 28:30SPEAKER_04: Um and so Skybox really is a nod to the Vegas history, the rat pack, you know, vibe, if you will.
- 28:37SPEAKER_04: Um, and so this is actually directly across the start and finish line.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: Um, it's up quite high in the sky.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: Um, and the views from the sky box are absolutely incredible.
- 28:47SPEAKER_04: It's a two-story structure with live entertainment, all the food and alcohol you could desire, um, and really the best view in the house.
- 28:57Dayna Roselli: Taken over, right?
- 28:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, taken over.
- 28:59SPEAKER_04: And then uh and then we have Club Overtake, which is our nod to Vegas' nightlife and Vegas' scene that only Vegas can create.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: And so um, Club Overtake is another space that is within our hospitality portfolio, and again, food and alcohol all-inclusive with inside that ticket.
- 29:15SPEAKER_04: And our third option is our turn three club, which is really geared towards the F1 super fan and the F1 fan um in general who just loves motorsport.
- 29:25SPEAKER_04: Um, the concept behind the fit and finish was really derived from you know car parts on the walls that are 3D printed and really leaning into the Formula One brand um and the Las Vegas Grand Prix brand as a whole.
- 29:39Dayna Roselli: Because we have some diehards that come to this race.
- 29:41Dayna Roselli: I mean, we met some last year.
- 29:43Dayna Roselli: We do, and we love them.
- 29:46Sean McAllister: So it's pretty cool how some of these different ticket options uh are going to give you a completely different feel, a different vibe, you know, from the Rat Pack era to the the neon vibe, and even at that uh third turn club, uh they have stuff that's kind of geared more toward motorheads, people who are serious race fans.
- 30:08Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 30:09Dayna Roselli: And then they're gonna have that ice rink too, which will be cool.
- 30:12Sean McAllister: Ice rink, the chalet up on the roof.
- 30:14Sean McAllister: Man, that's how we do it in Vegas, right?
- 30:16Dayna Roselli: It is.
- 30:17Dayna Roselli: And then she quickly mentioned, you know, the food, and it's gonna be unlimited and it's gonna be exquisite and all that kind of thing.
- 30:24Dayna Roselli: So you talk to Elvin Young, he's the assistant vice president of food and beverage for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, and we got some information about what we can expect food and beverage-wise.
- 30:34Sean McAllister: What are those things that you infuse into the food and beverage to let people know, you know what, this is Vegas, and you're not getting this stuff anywhere else?
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a great question.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: So, like you had alluded to, we are trying to, we have changed the way that we offer the actual enticement of food.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: We are rotating the menus daily.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: We're trying to make sure that everybody gets an impeasement aspect of it.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Um, they get what they want.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: So that's like the biggest call-out that we have.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: Other than that, as far as other offerings, we have celebrity chefs that we've kind of partnered up with.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Poppy Steak in one of our garage hospitalities is a great one.
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: High energy, um, exactly what you would expect from that restaurant group.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: Um, we've included them.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: And then Gordon Ramsay and the other garage that we have, they've elevated their entire game this year.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Um, they have three different offerings, one each night.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Um, the first one that we have starts off with guest chefs that will cook and be interactive.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: The second one we have is from Lucky Cat.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: They're pop-up in London that we're gonna feature with Asian Influence.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: And then the third component that we have is the best of all things United Kingdom, the Petite Wellington, the carved stations that they have, and the interactive stations that they have.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: We're just trying to elevate the game across the board.
- 31:41Sean McAllister: So, this is just some of the uh advanced preparations that are going into Formula One.
- 31:47Sean McAllister: Uh, tickets are still available at various price points.
- 31:50Sean McAllister: There's even the Flamingo Zone, uh, which I think is the most affordable ticket for uh the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
- 31:59Sean McAllister: Uh, food and beverage is not included in those ticket prices.
- 32:04Sean McAllister: The other ones have food and beverage packages uh included.
- 32:07Sean McAllister: However, at that flamingo zone, they are going to have uh food for purchase options, and there are going to be some uh great options available there.
- 32:17Sean McAllister: So Formula One, once again, coming up this November here in Las Vegas.
- 32:23Dayna Roselli: All right, let's do some tips.
- 32:27Dayna Roselli: Okay, in our tips today, we are talking about the Slotzilla 10-year anniversary.
- 32:34Dayna Roselli: And that's down in uh, well, I say down for it's actually up in downtown.
- 32:40Sean McAllister: It is, it's up above the Fremont Street experience.
- 32:43Sean McAllister: Uh, slotzilla is that massive zip line that goes from one end of the Fremont Street experience to the other.
- 32:50Dayna Roselli: Yep.
- 32:51Dayna Roselli: We you know, I've never actually been on it.
- 32:53Dayna Roselli: It's it's not really my thing.
- 32:54Dayna Roselli: We've watched Katy Perry do it.
- 32:55Dayna Roselli: You have you done it?
- 32:56Sean McAllister: I have done it.
- 32:57Sean McAllister: Oh, okay, good.
- 32:58Sean McAllister: It's so fun.
- 32:59Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I hear it's great.
- 33:01Dayna Roselli: We had uh my friend's uh stepdad do it for his 70th birthday.
- 33:05Dayna Roselli: He had a blast.
- 33:06Sean McAllister: It's a I mean, it's a great time.
- 33:08Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 33:08Sean McAllister: If you're looking for something to do, high flying action, that's that's it.
- 33:13Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 33:14Dayna Roselli: Well, you know what?
- 33:14Dayna Roselli: They're doing a special thing.
- 33:16Dayna Roselli: It's called Slotzilla Day to celebrate.
- 33:18Dayna Roselli: And it's on Wednesday, September 18th.
- 33:22Dayna Roselli: They are going to have a special appearance by the Las Vegas mayor, Carolyn Goodman, at 3 p.m.
- 33:27Dayna Roselli: to proclaim Slotzilla Day, but also special throwback pricing for one day only.
- 33:34Dayna Roselli: And so we wanted to let you know if you're always worried about price, and that's why you haven't done the Slotzilla zip line.
- 33:41Dayna Roselli: Maybe this is your day.
- 33:43Dayna Roselli: The seven-story Zipzilla zip line will be only$25 plus processing fees, and the 11-story superhero zoom line will be$45 plus processing fees.
- 33:57Sean McAllister: All right.
- 33:58Dayna Roselli: Say that five times.
- 33:59Dayna Roselli: Um, I don't know what the actual price is, but I'm assuming it's a lot more than that.
- 34:03Dayna Roselli: So$25 if you want to try it out.
- 34:06Dayna Roselli: The zip line on September 18th over at Slotzilla at Fremont Street Experience.
- 34:11Sean McAllister: Uh, also, we wanted to let you know about a new deli that's coming to that uh Fremont Street area as well.
- 34:18Sean McAllister: It's called Fat Sales Deli.
- 34:20Sean McAllister: They're a Los Angeles-based deli that is coming to Las Vegas for the first time.
- 34:25Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and of course, they're known for their larger-than-life sandwiches and sides.
- 34:30Dayna Roselli: And, you know, in Vegas, we love larger-than-life, so it seems like they'll be a perfect fit, right?
- 34:35Dayna Roselli: This is the first Nevada location.
- 34:37Dayna Roselli: It's over there at Neanapolis, that's 450 Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.
- 34:43Dayna Roselli: Um, they sent us a little gift pack with a shirt and hat.
- 34:46Dayna Roselli: We appreciated it, but they also tucked inside there a cookie.
- 34:51Dayna Roselli: And Sean, I have tried it already, but I brought over a part for you to try, even though you have a full cookie too in your bag.
- 34:58Dayna Roselli: I do.
- 34:58Dayna Roselli: But I thought, okay, so I am a chocolate chip cookie fan.
- 35:02Dayna Roselli: And I thought at first this was a chocolate chip cookie, but it's more than that.
- 35:07Sean McAllister: Oh, it is way more than that.
- 35:08Sean McAllister: This is the fat cookie, their signature cookie.
- 35:12Sean McAllister: It is a salted chocolate chip cookie stuffed with a red velvet cookie and cream cheese frosting.
- 35:22Sean McAllister: All right.
- 35:23Dayna Roselli: So I tried the shell because I like chocolate chip, and I was like, I don't know if we're gonna go as far as I'm not a big Sweets fan, but I love a good chocolate chip cookie.
- 35:31Dayna Roselli: The shell was delicious.
- 35:33Sean McAllister: I'm digging in over here.
- 35:34Dayna Roselli: Okay, so you're digging in.
- 35:35Dayna Roselli: So let's see, he's taking a bite.
- 35:36Dayna Roselli: Oh man, this isn't a lot, right?
- 35:40Dayna Roselli: So you see it right there in the middle.
- 35:42Dayna Roselli: You can see the red velvet.
- 35:43Sean McAllister: Yeah, the red velvet, that cream cheese frosting, it is packed.
- 35:48Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 35:48Sean McAllister: All right.
- 35:50Sean McAllister: Stand by.
- 35:51Sean McAllister: Making sure I don't drop crumbs everywhere.
- 35:54Sean McAllister: Yeah, trying to be a tidy taste tester over here.
- 35:59Sean McAllister: Oh wow.
- 36:02Sean McAllister: That is a good fat cookie.
- 36:09Sean McAllister: Oh my gosh.
- 36:10Sean McAllister: Okay, so the chocolate chip part of it is like a great classic chewy chocolate chip cookie.
- 36:18Dayna Roselli: It's good.
- 36:18Dayna Roselli: And the salt I when it said salted, I was like, oh yeah, it's a little salty.
- 36:22Sean McAllister: It's very much salty.
- 36:23Sean McAllister: I wasn't expecting to get that much uh salt flavor, but that's it's really in there.
- 36:28Sean McAllister: And it's it it offsets the sweetness of the red velvet and cream cheese stuffing inside, too.
- 36:38Sean McAllister: I don't know how many of these I would have in one sitting, but that bite was great.
- 36:45Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's delicious, right?
- 36:47Dayna Roselli: Yeah so I mean, I I see what they're known for, the larger than life, like a lot of different.
- 36:51Dayna Roselli: I was looking at their Instagram page.
- 36:53Dayna Roselli: We need to stop by, and we are going to stop by at some point, but um, they are known for this whole, like, you know, kind of layering of things, I guess you'd call it.
- 37:03Dayna Roselli: Um, like the fat sal is made with thinly sliced ribeye steak, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, fries, brown gravy, and mayonnaise on a garlic hero.
- 37:15Sean McAllister: That there's a lot going on in that sandwich.
- 37:19Dayna Roselli: And it's$18.99, which isn't terrible for all that.
- 37:21Sean McAllister: I mean, you could probably feed the whole family with it.
- 37:23Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 37:24Dayna Roselli: So listen, if you're interested in checking out Fat Sales, now open over there at Neanopolis.
- 37:29Sean McAllister: All right.
- 37:30Sean McAllister: Uh, that is a show.
- 37:32Sean McAllister: That is a show.
- 37:33Sean McAllister: Thank you.
- 37:34Sean McAllister: Thank you for listening, and thank you to our uh title sponsor, Level Up Law.
