- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey guys, welcome to the Almost Famous podcast today. I
- 0:09Speaker 2: think you're in for a treat. We are going to
- 0:12Speaker 2: be reading for our Bachelor diaries. I actually kind of
- 0:15Speaker 2: want to make this a series if enough people said
- 0:17Speaker 2: they have Bachelor diaries. Mine is the cringiest thing of
- 0:21Speaker 2: all time. I showed Ben yesterday. It looks like something
- 0:24Speaker 2: that Belle would have.
- 0:26Speaker 3: It's very intimidating.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I bought it in the airport, thinking, you know what,
- 0:31Speaker 2: I should have a journal for this experience.
- 0:35Speaker 4: And you told me.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Before we hit record that you actually don't have a journal,
- 0:41Speaker 2: which I thought you did, but you did have one,
- 0:45Speaker 2: and then you turn it into your book in plain sight,
- 0:48Speaker 2: and so now you're just going to be reading from that.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just like a free commercial for a lose.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I was going to say.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I was like, is this a podcast as part of
- 0:57Speaker 2: the extension pack.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Of your head?
- 1:01Speaker 5: No?
- 1:01Speaker 6: I did have a journal, and I found this little
- 1:05Speaker 6: journal that I'll talk about.
- 1:06Speaker 3: It's very different than yours. Goodness yours.
- 1:12Speaker 6: I just want to take a second. Can you have
- 1:13Speaker 6: you ever thought about this? But in like one hundred
- 1:16Speaker 6: years let's say we're not here on earth. We've moved
- 1:21Speaker 6: on and yeah, and somebody digs up like your house, right,
- 1:28Speaker 6: they're remodeling it, and they dig it up and they
- 1:30Speaker 6: find this book and they go, oh, my gosh, it's
- 1:35Speaker 6: a treasure. It is it is historic. This has to
- 1:39Speaker 6: have meaning and significance. And then they open it up
- 1:43Speaker 6: and they read, So I was in love with this
- 1:47Speaker 6: guy named Chris Souls and he was really cute and
- 1:52Speaker 6: I kissed him for the first time.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Can you imagine what these people are going to think.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I think that if it's a girl who finds it's
- 2:00Speaker 2: just gonna be like, Wow, I want to go live back.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Then this sounds like a good life. That's romantic.
- 2:07Speaker 2: She's like, I'm out here getting robots, you know, I
- 2:10Speaker 2: don't know who's AI and who's a human.
- 2:14Speaker 3: That's scary.
- 2:16Speaker 6: My journal did turn. I still have it somewhere. I
- 2:18Speaker 6: think it's in a book in my garage.
- 2:21Speaker 4: But a loane and plane, a box in your garage.
- 2:24Speaker 6: And a box my garage, sorry, and a loan and
- 2:27Speaker 6: plane site is the is the like more formulated professional
- 2:33Speaker 6: version of the journal. I took the notes and the
- 2:35Speaker 6: key points of the journal in my own insecurities and
- 2:39Speaker 6: turned it into this book that was re released because
- 2:43Speaker 6: we added a couple chapters into it, one on being
- 2:47Speaker 6: a dad, a couple, on being a husband, and so
- 2:50Speaker 6: it just came back out. And so I thought, well,
- 2:53Speaker 6: if I can't find the journal, I can find this
- 2:55Speaker 6: little thing I'll talk about. But then I'll also read
- 2:58Speaker 6: from alone and plane site. But honestly, this whole episode
- 3:01Speaker 6: is not about me, and I mean it, it's really
- 3:05Speaker 6: about you, because your journal is going to make us
- 3:08Speaker 6: so happy.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I mean, Ben, I'm reading the first page and I'm like,
- 3:12Speaker 4: I don't think I can do this.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I don't know if I can put this out there.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I did a couple of years ago on my I
- 3:20Speaker 2: don't get a podcast, I read excerpts from some diary.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Was it the Bachelor Diary or was it? I think
- 3:27Speaker 2: it was the Bachelor Diary. So let me just say,
- 3:29Speaker 2: when you open it, you get like a whole bunch
- 3:33Speaker 2: of these cards. So first up is a date card.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It says Ashley, love requires sacrifices. Your date is tonight.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I know who that was with. This
- 3:45Speaker 2: was with Canadian Daniel. I went to the tribal Data
- 3:51Speaker 2: some of these are Paradise, not oh yeah, this is
- 3:54Speaker 2: like a Bachelor. This is a Bachelor plus Paradise. But
- 3:56Speaker 2: I admittedly did not write as much in Paradise because
- 4:01Speaker 2: I was.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Like overwhelmed my emotion. I was like, I don't even
- 4:05Speaker 4: know idea.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I was like, it'll be documented on TV. I can't
- 4:10Speaker 2: even I can't either.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Okay, here's how this is gonna work. I'm gonna let
- 4:14Speaker 6: you spend the next few minutes and read some excerpts
- 4:17Speaker 6: that you think are great, and then we're gonna play
- 4:22Speaker 6: a little game. I'm going to tell you the number
- 4:25Speaker 6: of pages you need to turn, and you're going to
- 4:28Speaker 6: turn that number of pages in this you are, and
- 4:33Speaker 6: you're going to have to read at least a paragraph
- 4:37Speaker 6: from those pages so that you can't cultivate this experience
- 4:41Speaker 6: to be less embarrassing. No, we're going to get into
- 4:43Speaker 6: the nitty gritty here, but before we do that, I'm
- 4:49Speaker 6: going to give you a few minutes here, Ashley, just
- 4:51Speaker 6: to start reading to us, please please.
- 4:54Speaker 2: No, okay, okay, Well all right, I just opened this
- 4:57Speaker 2: and this is a layout of our dance for Winter Games.
- 5:02Speaker 4: This is our routine on the ice. And then I
- 5:07Speaker 4: have some.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Together, did we?
- 5:12Speaker 4: No? That would have been absolutely incredible.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel I have some cards against humanity as
- 5:18Speaker 2: if we played that and it meant something because.
- 5:20Speaker 3: We didn't play that a lot of that during the Bachelorette.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Oh yeah, okay.
- 5:26Speaker 2: And then I have another date card here that says, actually,
- 5:28Speaker 2: I choose a man to get dirty with on today's date.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Huh huh Again, who was that for? Who? Who did
- 5:36Speaker 4: I take on that date to get dirty with? Oh?
- 5:40Speaker 2: Okay it was Kevin? Oh because it was the pottery.
- 5:48Speaker 3: This is a lot of these.
- 5:49Speaker 4: That was winder Games. Interesting.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Okay, well that was probably the only artifacts that I
- 5:52Speaker 2: have from Winter Games in here, because I don't remember
- 5:54Speaker 2: writing in here during Winter Games.
- 5:56Speaker 4: But maybe there's one page.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Okay, this is the most embarrassing thing ever. This is
- 6:01Speaker 2: page one. I'm not sure whether I'm writing to myself
- 6:06Speaker 2: or whether I'm writing as if I'm talking to Chrystal's
- 6:10Speaker 2: good lord.
- 6:12Speaker 4: It's simple. I'm picky.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I have no desire for to settle for less than
- 6:16Speaker 2: I deserve, make any or to make anyone my boyfriend.
- 6:20Speaker 2: There have been only a handful of guys that I've
- 6:22Speaker 2: liked to this point, and they happen to that have happened,
- 6:26Speaker 2: and they've happened to love the non committal hookup culture
- 6:29Speaker 2: that we live in and have never committed to me,
- 6:33Speaker 2: never wanted a real relationship. And I'm a hopeless romantic
- 6:37Speaker 2: to a fault probably, and I'm too wrapped up in
- 6:40Speaker 2: the chick flick type of love story. But even though
- 6:42Speaker 2: my expectations and sanders are high, I think I should
- 6:45Speaker 2: be courted. I think I desire a proper romance, and
- 6:49Speaker 2: that's why I've held out. That's what I've held out
- 6:53Speaker 2: for in a relationship and sex. And then I have
- 6:57Speaker 2: some notes for myself.
- 6:59Speaker 4: This page literally bullet points. Yes, this is page. It's
- 7:03Speaker 4: this is how I wanted to get on.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Can I pause you here?
- 7:05Speaker 6: Yeah, because I think we're getting an insight into who
- 7:09Speaker 6: you are. How much like how nervous were you about
- 7:13Speaker 6: your virginity like story going into this show. I mean
- 7:18Speaker 6: that that is a very vulnerable and very open conversation
- 7:23Speaker 6: to have. Like I don't typically ask my buddies about
- 7:26Speaker 6: their sex life, right, it's not really my business. Now
- 7:29Speaker 6: most of them are married, so I guess maybe we're different.
- 7:32Speaker 6: But this this, I'm assuming it was a big deal
- 7:36Speaker 6: for you to even open.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Up about this, well, because it was in my audition
- 7:41Speaker 2: tape and I knew it was a big component to
- 7:43Speaker 2: why they were like so interested in me, and it
- 7:46Speaker 2: was brought up during audition casting weekend that I knew
- 7:50Speaker 2: that it was going to play a storyline and I
- 7:52Speaker 2: was going to have to talk about it. So this
- 7:54Speaker 2: is kind of me prepping in like the so how
- 7:57Speaker 2: did you get to be a twenty six year old
- 7:59Speaker 2: virgin conversation?
- 8:02Speaker 6: Okay, before you keep going, why was it in your
- 8:05Speaker 6: audition tape?
- 8:06Speaker 3: Like this was something that you wanted to speak about.
- 8:10Speaker 2: No, I hadn't understated because I knew that they would
- 8:13Speaker 2: probably be more interested in me if I put it
- 8:17Speaker 2: in there and knew it was a Gettera. So this
- 8:23Speaker 2: is apparently my notes in how I should present myself
- 8:26Speaker 2: in getting out of the limo. Steady yourself, like this
- 8:30Speaker 2: is me, like getting out of the limo and like
- 8:32Speaker 2: stay there, pose, show the dress for a second, look up, smile,
- 8:39Speaker 2: lock eyes, say hey, handsome, good lord, it's so nice
- 8:47Speaker 2: to finally meet you.
- 8:48Speaker 4: I've been daydreaming about this moment for a while.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Did you say that I'm Ashley. I'm so glad it's you.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I said this, I'm so glad it's you, Chris. Make
- 9:00Speaker 2: sure to say his name. My whole family is so
- 9:03Speaker 2: happy it's you. Even my critical grandma, and she brought me.
- 9:08Speaker 2: She bought me this dress for the occasion. She always says, oh,
- 9:12Speaker 2: he's so warm, so warm. My grandmother actually started watching
- 9:19Speaker 2: the show before I went on, like to see who
- 9:22Speaker 2: was gonna be my bachelor, and she really enjoyed Andy season,
- 9:27Speaker 2: and then she really liked Chris.
- 9:31Speaker 4: And she's still with us at one hundred.
- 9:32Speaker 6: And two, and she really liked Chris just because he is, like,
- 9:36Speaker 6: I mean, Chris is like the lovable Yeah, lovable, I
- 9:39Speaker 6: mean he is. Did you act like accurately say all
- 9:46Speaker 6: these things.
- 9:46Speaker 3: That you wrote down?
- 9:48Speaker 2: Well, I remember, just because of the edit that I said,
- 9:52Speaker 2: I'm so glad it's you.
- 9:54Speaker 4: I don't think I said my whole family is Maybe I.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Did say my whole family is happy it's you, and
- 10:00Speaker 2: then the next one it says, anyway, I feel so
- 10:03Speaker 2: blessed to be here and having this opportunity with you.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I can't wait to talk to you more later. And
- 10:08Speaker 2: I wanted to make sure that I didn't say I'll
- 10:10Speaker 2: see you inside, so I said, I can't wait to
- 10:12Speaker 2: talk to you more.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Later I did say that, did you wink? No, I
- 10:16Speaker 4: winking doesn't come natural to me.
- 10:18Speaker 6: Okay, So you don't like walk past and be like,
- 10:20Speaker 6: I can't wait to see you inside.
- 10:22Speaker 4: I didn't say that.
- 10:36Speaker 2: So then I go on and on again. How I'm
- 10:39Speaker 2: traditional in old school, and I'm okay with that given
- 10:44Speaker 2: the plat I said, but given the platform, I want
- 10:48Speaker 2: to start.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Oh look at this, this is so amazing, he says.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I want to start a dating revolution and bring courting back.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I challenge any guy watching this to ask a girl
- 10:59Speaker 2: if they're interested in out on a one on one date,
- 11:02Speaker 2: even if it's just meeting at a bar for drinks.
- 11:05Speaker 2: It doesn't happen enough. It's so simple. It's nerve wracking.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But what's the worst that can happen?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Why were you embarrassed by that? That's sweet?
- 11:13Speaker 2: No, it is, but it's just like so funny. I
- 11:15Speaker 2: want to start dating revolutions. You look, look at the gameplay.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Look at the gameplay there. According to the game of
- 11:20Speaker 2: roses Zee, I had an agenda.
- 11:22Speaker 6: You, Donda, which is very interesting because I never would
- 11:27Speaker 6: have expected you to have one but your agenda was
- 11:29Speaker 6: not about yourself. Your agenda was about sparking healthy dating
- 11:34Speaker 6: across your generation. I think that's very selfless and very wonderful.
- 11:39Speaker 6: I guarantee you there's some people out there that watched
- 11:41Speaker 6: you date and related to your story and said, hey,
- 11:44Speaker 6: I deserve a man to treat me well.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Keep going.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I'm having to good time with this, so use your
- 11:50Speaker 2: girl power and demand to be treated right. Being the
- 11:54Speaker 2: booty call is usually meaning that you're the submissive one, not.
- 11:56Speaker 4: The powerful one in the relationship.
- 11:58Speaker 6: Wait, I'm just a little bit confused on how you
- 12:03Speaker 6: like again, friend of friend here, I'm just trying to
- 12:07Speaker 6: figure stuff out. I'm confused on how you went from like,
- 12:11Speaker 6: here's my story, I'm a virgin to booty call.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm saying, don't be the booty call.
- 12:19Speaker 2: This was apparently like the message that I wanted to
- 12:21Speaker 2: get out there to women like I wanted to use
- 12:23Speaker 2: my virginity as kind of like or you know the
- 12:26Speaker 2: fact that I was going to have to talk about
- 12:27Speaker 2: my inexperience and relationships and being like this, this is
- 12:32Speaker 2: why I am the way that I am, And I
- 12:34Speaker 2: was just so less articulate about it.
- 12:37Speaker 4: On screen.
- 12:40Speaker 6: Do you today, as a married mom of two? Do
- 12:45Speaker 6: you read this and say get on you?
- 12:49Speaker 4: Yeah? Definitely.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I still like, very much stand with what I'm saying here,
- 12:52Speaker 2: but it's also just like really cringey to actually read.
- 12:56Speaker 6: Well, that's what diaries are all about. Yeah, is there
- 13:00Speaker 6: any other passages that you're really excited about? If not,
- 13:03Speaker 6: I'd love for you to turn six pages six pages.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, there's like a lot of virgin stuff in here.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Like guys are often shocked, no one expects it. They
- 13:13Speaker 2: ask how I don't get asked out.
- 13:16Speaker 4: On a lot of dates.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I'm a homebody and I don't so I don't have
- 13:20Speaker 2: to explain it much. A lot of people really really
- 13:24Speaker 2: respect it, and that means a lot. But here I
- 13:27Speaker 2: am boyfriendless, So I'm looking for someone who is loyal
- 13:31Speaker 2: and who makes me comfortable, and I want to feel
- 13:34Speaker 2: I want to feel like I'm talking and laughing with
- 13:36Speaker 2: my best guy from but I also want to jump
- 13:38Speaker 2: on and make out with him, and it's hard to
- 13:39Speaker 2: find that combination. My parents have been married for thirty
- 13:43Speaker 2: four years. My dad still tells my sister and I
- 13:45Speaker 2: how much he loves my mom and how beautiful she
- 13:47Speaker 2: is and how lucky we all are to have her.
- 13:49Speaker 2: My parents have set their set of relationship standards high. Okay,
- 13:54Speaker 2: so this starts to the diary and not so much
- 13:56Speaker 2: like my planet my talking points. Oh my god, I die,
- 14:02Speaker 2: I literally. Okay. This is interesting because the first time
- 14:05Speaker 2: I actually had like an like in depth conversation with
- 14:09Speaker 2: him besides like night one was I guess day two
- 14:14Speaker 2: when I was sitting on his lap on a tractor.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Oh is that a.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 14:23Speaker 3: Okay?
- 14:24Speaker 2: And I said it was a bit uncomfortable to have
- 14:26Speaker 2: to sit on his lap in a bikini during our
- 14:28Speaker 2: first real conversation. It made it harder to warm up
- 14:31Speaker 2: conversational Conversationally. I'm most concerned with my image. Guys often
- 14:37Speaker 2: think that they're thrown off me because like I come
- 14:40Speaker 2: across a little bit, you know, I don't.
- 14:44Speaker 4: It doesn't align with my innocence. Always.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I want him to know the last thing from a
- 14:47Speaker 2: promiscuous party girl. I know that he understands this is
- 14:53Speaker 2: a show, so we're gonna be putting awkward scenarios, but
- 14:56Speaker 2: I want to give the right impression of myself. I
- 15:00Speaker 2: they don't have time for him to figure all this out.
- 15:03Speaker 6: It does feel like you spent a lot of time
- 15:05Speaker 6: writing in this during souls this season. Yes, that most evenings.
- 15:12Speaker 6: It sounds like you are updating your journal or getting
- 15:15Speaker 6: your thoughts out.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Oh here.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I'm also very scared about talking to him about what
- 15:21Speaker 2: I wanted to do in life, because I said I
- 15:24Speaker 2: felt awkward talking about my field being broadcasting because in
- 15:27Speaker 2: bachelor language, I mean, she's not here for the right reasons.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I know that's so not true. I was raised in
- 15:35Speaker 2: a family with a stay at home mom, and I
- 15:36Speaker 2: would want nothing more than that if given the opportunity,
- 15:40Speaker 2: I put love, marriage and family before anything, and I
- 15:42Speaker 2: drop anything for that. It's frustrating to me that one
- 15:46Speaker 2: of the few things that you can't control when it
- 15:47Speaker 2: comes to having a success and quality of life is
- 15:50Speaker 2: finding someone. And then you want me to fast forward
- 15:56Speaker 2: to the end.
- 15:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I'd love to kind of get into the meat
- 16:00Speaker 6: of the season where you're I'd love to hear your
- 16:04Speaker 6: perspective as were you know, four or five episodes in.
- 16:09Speaker 2: This is the last entry that I have from Chris's season,
- 16:11Speaker 2: and it's not near the end. I still had like
- 16:14Speaker 2: a full like ten days after this anyway, last night, thankfully,
- 16:18Speaker 2: Chris and I got back to a great place. I
- 16:22Speaker 2: love feeling like it was the like it was post
- 16:25Speaker 2: camping trip, but I wonder if that's a good.
- 16:28Speaker 4: Enough point to be at right now.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I then talk about how I'm very comfortable making out
- 16:32Speaker 2: with him in front of the camera. Even though it's
- 16:34Speaker 2: in front of the camera, it doesn't feel like it is.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Then I again say, this is the season of the virgin. Carly,
- 16:41Speaker 2: who's twenty nine, told Chris on the one and again
- 16:43Speaker 2: she's born again and she's waiting for marriage.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Carly, where are you for this word?
- 16:50Speaker 2: What?
- 16:51Speaker 4: I don't think this ended up playing out.
- 16:54Speaker 2: No, I don't think, and I think she might have
- 16:58Speaker 2: a traumatic story. And Becca is twenty five and just
- 17:01Speaker 2: like me and waiting for a serious, loving, real relationship.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Today I will spend the day being thankful, eating, stressing
- 17:10Speaker 2: about tomorrow and thinking about Chris, analyzing and maybe going
- 17:15Speaker 2: into Chris's room later dot dot whatever the heck that means.
- 17:19Speaker 2: It's being talked out, or so I'm told by the producers,
- 17:23Speaker 2: I need to even get more aggressive. And if this
- 17:25Speaker 2: was my idea, and this was my idea, if I
- 17:29Speaker 2: didn't get a one on one this week, I needed extended,
- 17:32Speaker 2: non interrupted time, and I'm looking forward to it, but
- 17:35Speaker 2: I guess I'm not going to get my hopes up.
- 17:37Speaker 4: All right, there you go.
- 17:39Speaker 3: This isn't that embarrassing?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Ashes No, I mean there's a few lines that I'm
- 17:42Speaker 2: like abridging.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Okay, why do you think you stopped writing?
- 17:49Speaker 4: I don't know. I wish I had not stopped.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Really, this is so funny, though, because do you know
- 17:54Speaker 2: what my first line in Paradise is?
- 17:58Speaker 4: It's just as Paradise the top Okay.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And then it says things are good about to go
- 18:04Speaker 2: down like a Taylor Swift song I Love You. This
- 18:14Speaker 2: is because I was relating to a Taylor song. It
- 18:17Speaker 2: was better than revenge. I said that I felt like
- 18:22Speaker 2: Carrie with blood dumped on me.
- 18:24Speaker 3: See, I have no clue what you're talking about.
- 18:26Speaker 4: So Carrie, you know Carrie the horror movie.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Oh, the horror movie.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, like that's how I felt. Oh look at this.
- 18:32Speaker 2: I think you're greater than Tom Brady. Ignore my giant's affiliation.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I think you're just as hot as Garoppolo. And most importantly,
- 18:40Speaker 2: you've been the only guy to thoroughly distract me from
- 18:45Speaker 2: someone else for three years.
- 18:48Speaker 4: These damn Scorpios.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Oh my god, I forgot I even wrote that letter
- 18:52Speaker 2: to Jared.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Wow, I haven't thought about this in the years.
- 18:56Speaker 2: And then in Paradise too, in preparation for season two,
- 19:00Speaker 2: I wrote my story like as if I was going
- 19:04Speaker 2: to write a book, so I said. I read Cony
- 19:07Speaker 2: Robertson's book on the way to casting weekend for the
- 19:09Speaker 2: first season, and that prepared me for this journey. And
- 19:13Speaker 2: just now I'm reading Andy Dorfmann's book as I sit
- 19:16Speaker 2: on the balcony back in Port of Vierta, confined to
- 19:19Speaker 2: a hotel run for the second year in a row.
- 19:21Speaker 2: As I sit relishing in the humidity, I brace myself
- 19:25Speaker 2: for what could be an even more heartbreaking experience than
- 19:28Speaker 2: last year's trip. Here a second romantic movie plays inside
- 19:33Speaker 2: my beautiful suite, and one of my favorite parts about
- 19:36Speaker 2: my bachelor experience has got to be all the unlimited
- 19:38Speaker 2: free room service.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Andy's book has.
- 19:43Speaker 2: In a way prepared me for how to deal if
- 19:46Speaker 2: that devastating heartbreak is actualized. Somehow, even though it seems unlivable,
- 19:53Speaker 2: I will survive this possible loss and should simply consider
- 19:57Speaker 2: it the end of a chapter, not the story. Roughly
- 20:03Speaker 2: the first year to all of these shenanigans was a
- 20:05Speaker 2: total blast. It was all about becoming a more confident person.
- 20:10Speaker 2: And my second year I met Jared and while I'm
- 20:14Speaker 2: going into my fourth year consumed by.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Said person at home.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I never saw Jared coming until I did, and I
- 20:24Speaker 2: expected what I believed to be my only bow of
- 20:30Speaker 2: love at first sight. It's unfortunate that I didn't keep
- 20:34Speaker 2: a better record of the beginning of our relationship, a
- 20:38Speaker 2: version that isn't televised. However, that story was told for
- 20:41Speaker 2: Milliams to see, and it was a pretty accurate portrayal
- 20:44Speaker 2: of our relationship at that point, in all of its
- 20:48Speaker 2: cheesy glory. It He truly makes me want to be
- 20:52Speaker 2: a better person.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Would you like me to continue or should I stop?
- 20:56Speaker 3: I want you to continue, Ashley said.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I wish I could be as selfless and thoughtful of
- 21:05Speaker 2: others as he is. He's the kindest heart, and at
- 21:08Speaker 2: some points over the year, I believe it's almost been
- 21:11Speaker 2: to a fault when the ugly truth the movie ironically
- 21:15Speaker 2: is playing in the background is that if he were
- 21:19Speaker 2: a little less caring and sensitive, my heart could have
- 21:22Speaker 2: been shattered months ago and I could still be in
- 21:26Speaker 2: the healing process, but no. Instead, I find myself still
- 21:29Speaker 2: holding on to hope that our incredibly strong friendship could
- 21:33Speaker 2: evolve into something more. I just refuse to believe that
- 21:36Speaker 2: two people who love each other so deeply can't imagine
- 21:40Speaker 2: and can't imagine their lives without each other, who are
- 21:42Speaker 2: so compatible and so delighted at each other's company, How
- 21:46Speaker 2: can we just not be together romantically? The past year
- 21:50Speaker 2: certainly hasn't been with all its fair shares of teas,
- 21:54Speaker 2: certainly hasn't been with its fair share of teases of
- 21:59Speaker 2: this happening.
- 22:00Speaker 3: This past year has been has been.
- 22:02Speaker 2: It is definitely the right word, of course, without them,
- 22:07Speaker 2: I like to think that I wouldn't be so hopelessly
- 22:09Speaker 2: in unrequited love with him. If you asked me this
- 22:13Speaker 2: time last year where I would have thought my relationship
- 22:15Speaker 2: with Jared would be, I would have said that either
- 22:18Speaker 2: non existent or my boyfriend, as I did believe that
- 22:22Speaker 2: he did need time.
- 22:23Speaker 4: To recover from Kaitlin and be friends first.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Despite the tears and at times heartache, Jared has enhanced
- 22:32Speaker 2: my life and made me more mature. While I still
- 22:36Speaker 2: have a positive outlook on love, I know it's not
- 22:39Speaker 2: as simple as they make it seem in the movies,
- 22:42Speaker 2: and I find myself in less of a fantasy world,
- 22:45Speaker 2: despite the fact that Jared is a fantasy come to life.
- 22:49Speaker 2: And anyone that I've ever found as close to Prince Jermy.
- 22:54Speaker 2: He's taught me emotional intimacy, and I believe our relationship
- 22:57Speaker 2: has been a bit of a refresher course for him.
- 23:01Speaker 2: People don't understand our relationship and they probably shouldn't because
- 23:07Speaker 2: our relationship is definitely one of a kind anyway that
- 23:10Speaker 2: goes on and on and on.
- 23:12Speaker 3: That's really sweetish, you know, man.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I mean it is like pages beyond that because this
- 23:21Speaker 2: was me sitting in the hotel room.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it's got like twenty pages.
- 23:25Speaker 2: This is me sitting in the hotel room for five
- 23:27Speaker 2: days being like I'm writing our story up until now,
- 23:30Speaker 2: and that's and I think I do get to the
- 23:33Speaker 2: point where it was like present day.
- 23:34Speaker 6: Yeah, Ashley, It's absolutely wonderful.
- 23:37Speaker 3: It always is.
- 23:38Speaker 6: It's a great reminder, and thank you for sharing this
- 23:41Speaker 6: with us. I'm going to take the last few minutes
- 23:54Speaker 6: here to talk about yourself.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Now it's your turn.
- 23:56Speaker 6: Come on, now, I can do that. This is really fun,
- 23:58Speaker 6: so I have this little black book. So when I
- 24:01Speaker 6: was growing up, my mom would print off like Bible
- 24:06Speaker 6: verses and put a new one up every week on
- 24:09Speaker 6: my mirror and my bathroom, like tape it up there
- 24:13Speaker 6: and I could like remember it. And so for The Bachelor,
- 24:18Speaker 6: when I went on the show, she took those verses
- 24:21Speaker 6: in some of my favorite quotes and put them all
- 24:24Speaker 6: in this book so I could bring it with me
- 24:27Speaker 6: and read. But the coolest part is I kind of
- 24:30Speaker 6: forgot this. I've always loved Winnie the Pooh. Winnie the Pooh.
- 24:33Speaker 6: Initially it was brought up at our wedding. Well, the
- 24:37Speaker 6: first page is a picture she drew. It's really sweet.
- 24:42Speaker 4: That's so crazy, Ben, you would one day have a
- 24:45Speaker 4: daughter named Winnie.
- 24:46Speaker 2: I know.
- 24:47Speaker 6: And the quote here is how do you spell love?
- 24:49Speaker 6: Piglet said that and Pooh answered, you don't spell it,
- 24:53Speaker 6: you feel it? Is that sweet?
- 24:56Speaker 4: So sweet.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:58Speaker 6: So it's fun to look through this and see all
- 25:00Speaker 6: these like quotes that are in Bible verses that are
- 25:03Speaker 6: written down for me. And I used it a lot
- 25:05Speaker 6: when I was on the show, just to like, you know,
- 25:07Speaker 6: you're away from your family, you're traveling all around, you're
- 25:10Speaker 6: stressed out, life's changing, and so I remember I had
- 25:15Speaker 6: this with me and I just look at it. It'd
- 25:16Speaker 6: been like a good reminder of my family back home
- 25:20Speaker 6: and like setting like just setting me back up for
- 25:24Speaker 6: some foundation.
- 25:25Speaker 3: So it was fun.
- 25:26Speaker 4: I found that for this so nice. I love that. Well,
- 25:28Speaker 4: can you read a couple more?
- 25:30Speaker 2: Oh?
- 25:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I can read a couple more, and then I'm
- 25:31Speaker 6: going to read a little section from my book that
- 25:34Speaker 6: was like really taken from my journal. So we have
- 25:37Speaker 6: a quote from doctor Seuss and here that says, be
- 25:39Speaker 6: who you are, Be who you are, and say what
- 25:42Speaker 6: you feel, because those who mine don't matter, and those
- 25:45Speaker 6: who matter don't mind. The first Bible verse here is
- 25:50Speaker 6: one Peter five versus six and seven. It says, so
- 25:53Speaker 6: be content with who you are, and don't put on airs.
- 25:58Speaker 6: God's strong hand is on you. He'll promote you at
- 26:01Speaker 6: the right time. Live care free before God. He is
- 26:06Speaker 6: most careful with you.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Oh this was good.
- 26:11Speaker 6: It's kind of going off of Ashley some of our
- 26:13Speaker 6: conversations about people of faith today, and you know how
- 26:18Speaker 6: they're speaking about faith on social media and this kind
- 26:21Speaker 6: of like strong arm mentality people have. But I remember
- 26:28Speaker 6: this little prayer that was written by Peter Marshall short.
- 26:34Speaker 6: But I remember it hit me during the Bachelor when
- 26:37Speaker 6: I had made some mistakes, and it's funny when you're
- 26:41Speaker 6: on that show.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Did you make any mistakes?
- 26:45Speaker 6: I was showing favoritism, I think, okay, and I was
- 26:51Speaker 6: there was a moment and I still like really like
- 26:55Speaker 6: hurt for this Olivia KAREDI was getting just I knew
- 26:59Speaker 6: she was getting kind of like blasted by the like
- 27:02Speaker 6: producers like they needed a villain, and she kind of
- 27:04Speaker 6: got like singled out and I didn't put my foot down,
- 27:09Speaker 6: and then I failed to put my foot down even
- 27:12Speaker 6: post airing of the show, and I really regret that
- 27:15Speaker 6: to this day.
- 27:15Speaker 3: She didn't deserve it.
- 27:16Speaker 6: It wasn't real, it wasn't true, and it really, I know,
- 27:19Speaker 6: it really hurt her. She's great, and so yeah, maybe
- 27:23Speaker 6: not the big mistakes that you'd see on television, but
- 27:26Speaker 6: like inner turmoils that were going on. And so the
- 27:30Speaker 6: prayer says, Lord, when I am wrong, make me willing
- 27:34Speaker 6: to change, and when I am right, make me easy
- 27:38Speaker 6: to live with. So yeah, there was just these like
- 27:43Speaker 6: really good reminders. And the cool part about it is
- 27:46Speaker 6: it felt like all these reminders were humbling in nature
- 27:51Speaker 6: but uplifting in its spirit, so like it kept me grounded,
- 27:55Speaker 6: I think was the word I was looking for earlier.
- 27:57Speaker 6: Like it did, it kept me very grounded throughout the
- 28:00Speaker 6: whole process when life is getting thrown at you and
- 28:03Speaker 6: you just read that and you're like, Okay, I don't
- 28:05Speaker 6: want to change here, so help me still navigate this
- 28:11Speaker 6: being the man that I've always dreamed to be, wanted
- 28:13Speaker 6: to be, desired to be. And then I wrote now
- 28:17Speaker 6: that this is obviously coming from the book Alone in
- 28:19Speaker 6: Plain Sight, which is a whole book on hopefully the
- 28:23Speaker 6: reader feels less alone when they're done reading it. And
- 28:25Speaker 6: so it kind of takes little sections of my story,
- 28:29Speaker 6: my journal, especially Bachelorrette when I was feeling super insecure,
- 28:33Speaker 6: haveing a lot of questions, and formulate it into like
- 28:36Speaker 6: more of a like a book where there's some like
- 28:39Speaker 6: response and solution, so it's not like a diary where
- 28:42Speaker 6: sometimes it's hard to read or grammar's wrong.
- 28:44Speaker 3: This has been edited, so I just want to.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Preface with that, Yes, I apologize for my stumbles, but
- 28:50Speaker 2: I remember going onto the show.
- 28:54Speaker 6: I remember a night laying in my bed in Denver,
- 28:58Speaker 6: A couple of weeks before the show arted, and my
- 29:01Speaker 6: buddies had told me this thing, like and they're friends,
- 29:04Speaker 6: and to some level, I'm kind of happy they said this.
- 29:07Speaker 6: Other ways, I think it was really mean, but they
- 29:11Speaker 6: came over to kind of help me get packed and
- 29:13Speaker 6: they said, I said, oh, man, I don't even know
- 29:15Speaker 6: how much I need to bring, and they said, well,
- 29:17Speaker 6: you'll probably be there like two weeks.
- 29:18Speaker 3: There's some studs that go on that show.
- 29:21Speaker 5: And I it's so out of touch, Like I love
- 29:26Speaker 5: the way they humbled you, but like when six foot
- 29:29Speaker 5: four Ben Higgins locks in the door, like that is
- 29:33Speaker 5: the ultimate Bachelor candidate, Like.
- 29:36Speaker 4: That's hilarious that they wouldn't think of you like that.
- 29:41Speaker 6: It really did, Like it hurt because I was trying
- 29:44Speaker 6: to pump myself up, like hey, you belong here, You're
- 29:47Speaker 6: gonna have fun here, and it like really set me
- 29:50Speaker 6: back on this, like this is just embarrassing kind of
- 29:53Speaker 6: the thought of why would I even do this if
- 29:54Speaker 6: I'm only gonna be there two weeks, Like I don't
- 29:56Speaker 6: want to make a flu of myself again. This is
- 29:58Speaker 6: gonna be embarrassing, But I still chose to do it,
- 30:01Speaker 6: and I'm proud of myself for that. And then the
- 30:04Speaker 6: next thing they said was, well, maybe you can last
- 30:09Speaker 6: long enough to become King of the Nerds, meaning like,
- 30:13Speaker 6: maybe you'll like actually do something on this show, but
- 30:17Speaker 6: if you do, it really doesn't matter. Anyways, two really
- 30:19Speaker 6: like hurtful things. So I remember laying in my bed
- 30:22Speaker 6: going goodness, like, am I making the biggest mistake of
- 30:24Speaker 6: my life? Is this going to absolutely crush me? I'm
- 30:28Speaker 6: all ready very fragile, and if you remember me coming
- 30:31Speaker 6: into the Bachelor, I was already very insecure, and I
- 30:35Speaker 6: thought this could either be the like, this could really
- 30:38Speaker 6: be something that puts me over the edge. I wasn't
- 30:42Speaker 6: necessarily a great place mentally, and then I wrote on
- 30:47Speaker 6: my plane flight to Los Angeles, Yeah, how would you
- 30:54Speaker 6: say that?
- 30:55Speaker 4: Why on your flight?
- 30:56Speaker 3: On my flight?
- 30:57Speaker 6: Okay, on my flight, I wrote this whole synopsis on
- 31:03Speaker 6: what is love?
- 31:05Speaker 2: Okay, see you and I are both like thinking interesting
- 31:10Speaker 2: where our heads are at, going on our plight?
- 31:14Speaker 6: And so let me read this because this kind of
- 31:17Speaker 6: is the excerpt from my journal that answers that question, or,
- 31:20Speaker 6: at least to the best of my ability, says what
- 31:23Speaker 6: is romantic love? Some of us skip through life assuming
- 31:27Speaker 6: we know the answer. We know love when we feel love.
- 31:32Speaker 6: But how do we know what we feel is actually love?
- 31:35Speaker 6: Could it be nothing more than a primal instinct and lust?
- 31:39Speaker 6: At first, the two feel a lot alike. We meet
- 31:43Speaker 6: somewhat somebody, and since an instantaneous attraction, sparks fly, hearts flutter,
- 31:51Speaker 6: blood flows. The moment we first speak to one another,
- 31:54Speaker 6: we feel the chemistry. Then our hands touch, and it's,
- 31:58Speaker 6: to borrow a line from an old movie magic, When
- 32:02Speaker 6: our lips meet for the first time, fireworks explode, but
- 32:06Speaker 6: our fireworks proof of true romantic love. Sparks may fly,
- 32:12Speaker 6: but are sparks enough for us to know that this
- 32:15Speaker 6: is the one we will be with forever. Chemistry doesn't
- 32:19Speaker 6: equal a healthy relationship, something many of us have to
- 32:23Speaker 6: learn the hard way. Nor do the feelings of being
- 32:26Speaker 6: in love mean we've found our one true love Again,
- 32:31Speaker 6: I must ask what is true romantic love? I have
- 32:37Speaker 6: wanted to pursue true love for as long as I
- 32:40Speaker 6: can remember. My parents started praying for my future partner
- 32:44Speaker 6: even before I was born. Anything they'd pray about for.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Us isn't that sweet?
- 32:50Speaker 6: Anything they'd pray about for so long must be a big, big, deal. Remember,
- 32:56Speaker 6: at this point, I'm very single. Anything this big had
- 33:00Speaker 6: to be taken seriously, and I didn't want to blow it.
- 33:03Speaker 6: That's why one day, while laying shingles and pounding nails
- 33:08Speaker 6: on the roof with my dad, I asked him, Dad,
- 33:12Speaker 6: how do you know Mom was the one? At the time,
- 33:16Speaker 6: my mom and dad had been together for thirty seven years.
- 33:19Speaker 6: The two of them still seem madly in love. If
- 33:23Speaker 6: ever I'd witnessed true love, it has to be my
- 33:25Speaker 6: mom and Dad's relationship. So I wanted to know their secret.
- 33:29Speaker 6: I sat back and waited for my dad to let
- 33:32Speaker 6: me in on the secret that unlocks the mystery of
- 33:34Speaker 6: finding true love. I honestly expected him to say something
- 33:38Speaker 6: life changing, to give me some profound truth that would
- 33:41Speaker 6: illuminate my path forward toward true love. My dad paused
- 33:46Speaker 6: for a moment as he thought about the question, then said, Ben,
- 33:50Speaker 6: when you know you know? At that, my dear readers,
- 33:55Speaker 6: is the Dave Higgins secret to understanding true love? When
- 33:58Speaker 6: you know you know? I could not hide my surprise.
- 34:02Speaker 6: My jaw dropped and shocked, and I asked, is that
- 34:04Speaker 6: all you've got? Yep, that's it, my dad said, with
- 34:07Speaker 6: a smile like he actually had revealed one of the
- 34:10Speaker 6: greatest mysteries of the universe. When you know you know,
- 34:14Speaker 6: he said again. I shook my head. I don't get it,
- 34:17Speaker 6: I said, When you know you know? That makes no
- 34:20Speaker 6: sense to me. How am I ever supposed to know?
- 34:23Speaker 6: What does that even mean? My dad grinned and shrugged
- 34:26Speaker 6: his shoulders. You'll just know, son, he said again. Except
- 34:31Speaker 6: for most of my life, I haven't even known what
- 34:33Speaker 6: I was supposed to know. I felt sparks, I've seen fireworks.
- 34:38Speaker 6: I felt the euphoria where I gladly drive four hours
- 34:42Speaker 6: on a Tuesday night just to spend a couple hours
- 34:44Speaker 6: with the one I love. Then I drive back home
- 34:46Speaker 6: in the middle of the night and get up tired
- 34:48Speaker 6: for work the next day, and then do it again
- 34:50Speaker 6: on a Wednesday, if that's what it took to see
- 34:53Speaker 6: her again. But the euphoria didn't last, and neither did
- 34:56Speaker 6: that relationship. None of my relationships did for the first
- 35:00Speaker 6: thirty years of my life. And then it goes into
- 35:03Speaker 6: meeting Jessica and to going on The Bachelor.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Ben.
- 35:07Speaker 2: It's so funny that we both so much wrote about
- 35:09Speaker 2: love and relationships on the flight. I like talk about
- 35:13Speaker 2: going for the right reasons, like our headspace was all
- 35:16Speaker 2: about this, this is a huge step in our romantic life.
- 35:21Speaker 2: We weren't even thinking about the other things to come
- 35:23Speaker 2: with it.
- 35:24Speaker 6: It really, I mean, I think that is when we
- 35:26Speaker 6: you know, the Game of Roses show was such a
- 35:28Speaker 6: fun show I think for us to be a part of,
- 35:31Speaker 6: and I think to like to summarize it and to
- 35:34Speaker 6: give us some credit this, you know, this isn't like
- 35:39Speaker 6: a self promotion more than a hey, I think they
- 35:42Speaker 6: casted us hoping for something right. They loved your virgin
- 35:46Speaker 6: story and for me, you know, maybe it was just like, hey,
- 35:50Speaker 6: the good old boy next door from the Midwest, and
- 35:52Speaker 6: he seems to relate to our target demo. But I
- 35:55Speaker 6: think what they didn't meant, what they didn't see, was
- 35:59Speaker 6: this just deep desire in our life to find a
- 36:02Speaker 6: partner and knowing that we had to take some risks
- 36:05Speaker 6: to find it along the way, you know, be that
- 36:08Speaker 6: reality television or be that just getting out there in
- 36:10Speaker 6: the world. And you and I both weren't doing a
- 36:13Speaker 6: great job at getting out there in the world and
- 36:15Speaker 6: dating at the time of the show, because we're home
- 36:18Speaker 6: buddies bodies we're a little bit more introverted when it
- 36:22Speaker 6: comes to like the social scene, and what the show
- 36:26Speaker 6: maybe couldn't have cast it or known about us was
- 36:29Speaker 6: our deepest desire at the end of the day, bring it,
- 36:32Speaker 6: bring the money, bring the fame, bring the attention, all
- 36:35Speaker 6: those things. That's great, but we would have never replaced
- 36:39Speaker 6: our true romantic relationship for those things. And today I
- 36:45Speaker 6: think I could speak for you and say you could
- 36:47Speaker 6: take all the other stuff away, but do not take
- 36:51Speaker 6: away my wife, like you could take all that. I
- 36:56Speaker 6: give it all back to you in a second. But
- 37:00Speaker 6: it was worth it, right, And I think that's the
- 37:02Speaker 6: crazy part, and maybe the message that people need to
- 37:05Speaker 6: hear is we dreamed of it, we wrote about it,
- 37:10Speaker 6: we thought about it, we processed it, we asked our
- 37:12Speaker 6: closest loved ones about it. Now you know, we found
- 37:16Speaker 6: it and it was better than I ever could have thought.
- 37:20Speaker 6: And my dad, and it goes into this this next section.
- 37:25Speaker 6: If somebody asked me today, Ben, how did you know
- 37:28Speaker 6: Jessica was the one?
- 37:31Speaker 3: It's funny and.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Then I wanted to ask you that I wanted to
- 37:34Speaker 2: be like, so when you met jess what did what.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Did you think?
- 37:39Speaker 6: I remember this moment on our first date, Ashley, Internally,
- 37:42Speaker 6: I thought.
- 37:44Speaker 4: I think I know, you think I know, I think
- 37:47Speaker 4: I know yeah.
- 37:49Speaker 6: And then I said, this is either going to be
- 37:51Speaker 6: the greatest thing to ever happen to me in my
- 37:53Speaker 6: life or the hardest thing that ever happened to me
- 37:56Speaker 6: in my life and ended up being the greatest. But
- 37:58Speaker 6: if somebody asked me today, how did I know Jeff
- 38:00Speaker 6: was the one? I would say with confidence, when you know,
- 38:04Speaker 6: you know, yeah, that's so cute.
- 38:07Speaker 4: I dies so cute. I wanted to say that.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Have you seen that trend on Instagram and TikTok where
- 38:17Speaker 2: it's like you're going to get a call the Susie
- 38:19Speaker 2: and Blake both did it okay, And it's like you're
- 38:22Speaker 2: going to get a call in your twenties and it's
- 38:24Speaker 2: going to tell you and then like you fill in
- 38:26Speaker 2: the blank and then and then you're supposed to basically
- 38:30Speaker 2: say you have to do it. And of course Susie
- 38:34Speaker 2: and Blake have made it bachelor oriented, so it's like
- 38:37Speaker 2: you're going to get a call that you have to
- 38:39Speaker 2: go date some guy along with twenty nine women on
- 38:44Speaker 2: dash Haal TV and you have to say yes to it.
- 38:47Speaker 2: And it shows like their life over the past, you know,
- 38:50Speaker 2: with Susie like six years and then him like close
- 38:53Speaker 2: to ten. And it's so good. It's so good. You
- 38:57Speaker 2: have to do it. It'll make you smile. You have
- 38:59Speaker 2: to watch theirs. It's very uplifting. It's really cool to
- 39:03Speaker 2: see how lives turn out.
- 39:05Speaker 3: It is.
- 39:06Speaker 6: It's fun. So that's an insight into the brains of us.
- 39:11Speaker 6: Ashley's unfiltered and as I said, I had the benefit
