Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: That is the voices of Ryan Pagano, myself and Kenny
- 0:14Speaker 1: Albert all at the same time that Team USA won
- 0:19Speaker 1: gold in men's hockey for the first time in forty
- 0:22Speaker 1: six years, and with me on the podcast right now
- 0:26Speaker 1: to react is mister lou Terminello and of course Pag's perspective.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Ryan Pagano, Guys, we won the gold. We're taking the
- 0:36Speaker 1: gold home, bringing it home from Milan. All right, Well,
- 0:40Speaker 1: he's back on camera with us to celebrate a major
- 0:42Speaker 1: occasion today. Team USA has brought home the gold in
- 0:48Speaker 1: men's hockey for the first time in forty six years,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and we had to do an instant reaction with the
- 0:54Speaker 1: one and only lou Terminello and guests who has joined
- 0:57Speaker 1: us also in Team USA year back perspective.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Boys, we did it.
- 1:02Speaker 3: We brought home the goal. Alex Ryan, it was an
- 1:06Speaker 3: exciting day.
- 1:09Speaker 4: I was tense the entire game, like one of my
- 1:12Speaker 4: teams playing in the seventh game of a of a
- 1:15Speaker 4: championship series or world series. That's how exciting the game was.
- 1:20Speaker 4: These two these two teams put their guts, they put
- 1:24Speaker 4: their guts out on the line. Uh it was. It
- 1:29Speaker 4: was a wonderful hockey it was a wonderful hockey game
- 1:32Speaker 4: and uh uh Conna Hellibuck was a tremendous player. Obviously,
- 1:38Speaker 4: his goaltending today was a difference as the Canadians kept pushing,
- 1:43Speaker 4: especially in the second period. But kudos to Jack use
- 1:48Speaker 4: and on that winning goal, you know, everybody's gonna say,
- 1:51Speaker 4: you know, the pass from uh Orensky, which was which
- 1:55Speaker 4: was tremendous obviously to get to him.
- 1:57Speaker 3: But if you roll back.
- 1:58Speaker 4: To tape, just twenty seconds McDavid was coming in on
- 2:03Speaker 4: his backhand and Jack Hughes wrote him off the park
- 2:08Speaker 4: and then we started the other way for the United States,
- 2:10Speaker 4: which ended up.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Being about twenty seconds later the winning goal.
- 2:14Speaker 4: But great day for the United States. I'm very very pleased.
- 2:20Speaker 4: They played great and you try how great the hockey
- 2:23Speaker 4: was in the medal rounds. Not so much to round
- 2:26Speaker 4: robin in the metal rounds. And I wonder if they're
- 2:28Speaker 4: going to change the format moving forward.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I don't know, but that that was my take on it.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Mike Sullivan, and you made this point put in the
- 2:39Speaker 5: best coaching decision, which was Hellabuck.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I mean he changed that real quick after the prelimbs,
- 2:44Speaker 1: and look where we are today Gold met our winners.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And also I want to make this note that Ryan,
- 2:49Speaker 2: you can jump in.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Also, Hey, if today didn't show Chris Jury, what happens
- 2:54Speaker 5: when Mike Sullivan.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Has a team, I don't know what will. I mean,
- 2:57Speaker 2: he's our yet, he's our coach here in New York.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Give him some people to work with daily, well.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Exactly, that's exactly what happens in Pittsburgh with them. I
- 3:06Speaker 6: mean we saw it all throughout his Pittsburgh Penguin's tenure,
- 3:09Speaker 6: saally bringing up all those boys from Wilkespere for that
- 3:12Speaker 6: twenty sixteen Cup run.
- 3:13Speaker 7: I mean, he got back to back cups out of
- 3:16Speaker 7: that team. And look, you could say what you want
- 3:18Speaker 7: in the end about.
- 3:20Speaker 6: The pen's not really blowing it up when they arguably
- 3:23Speaker 6: probably should have after twenty twenty maybe after twenty twenty one,
- 3:28Speaker 6: and definitely after twenty twenty two.
- 3:29Speaker 7: You could say what you want about all that, But
- 3:31Speaker 7: the man has proved that he can win with talent.
- 3:35Speaker 6: That's exactly why he came to the Rangers, and I'm
- 3:37Speaker 6: sure that's probably why he signed up to coach Team
- 3:40Speaker 6: USA in the first place.
- 3:42Speaker 7: I mean, all the talent that he had is at his.
- 3:45Speaker 6: Disposal, probably the deepest US team we have ever seen,
- 3:50Speaker 6: and they got it.
- 3:51Speaker 3: I would agree. I would agree, Ryan, I would agree.
- 3:53Speaker 5: And let me tell you, I don't think they're improved
- 3:55Speaker 5: from last year's for Nations Cup. I mean one of
- 3:58Speaker 5: the difference, as you're saying, quinn U's but they just
- 4:00Speaker 5: made it all all around, just felt deeper this year,
- 4:04Speaker 5: and they.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Left a couple of great players off the roster.
- 4:07Speaker 4: We talked about it off air this morning, and you
- 4:09Speaker 4: know Jason Robertson and Cole Cawfield and Lane Hudson, among others.
- 4:15Speaker 4: So it was a good day for the usay, it
- 4:19Speaker 4: was a very good day for Jack Hughes, a very
- 4:21Speaker 4: good day for the New Jersey Devil.
- 4:23Speaker 3: So let's see how they market this moment, because you know, it.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Was funny overtime, right, And then to myself, there could
- 4:30Speaker 5: be the Choppers are flying for me because I just
- 4:32Speaker 5: watched them in twenty ten and overtime lose the cydny Kid.
- 4:35Speaker 5: But maybe for lou not the Choppers, but just that
- 4:39Speaker 5: memory of seeing eighty the flag raising. I mean that
- 4:42Speaker 5: I'll bring back some memories today.
- 4:44Speaker 4: It did, and Alex, I know we were talking earlier
- 4:46Speaker 4: today about the emotions of the game. If you didn't
- 4:50Speaker 4: get emotional at some level, I don't mean you, I
- 4:53Speaker 4: mean the general you, if you're an American, And I
- 4:56Speaker 4: don't mean you got to start bawling or anything like that.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I'm not saying that, just an emotional feeling when during
- 5:02Speaker 4: the game and then when they got the medals, and
- 5:05Speaker 4: then when they raised the flag and played the anthem,
- 5:07Speaker 4: then you just don't have you have no blood in
- 5:09Speaker 4: your veins, my friends.
- 5:11Speaker 3: But uh, that was emotion. That was that was an
- 5:14Speaker 3: emotional time for sure.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Uh.
- 5:17Speaker 3: And again, guys, in.
- 5:20Speaker 4: The second period, Canada had control to play uh that
- 5:26Speaker 4: five on three, which the US killed brilliantly, but it
- 5:30Speaker 4: still gave Canada momentum and they were still pushing and uh,
- 5:35Speaker 4: as Eddie Alchik said on telecast, their defencemen were were
- 5:39Speaker 4: jumping into the play shift after shift. And I really
- 5:43Speaker 4: think that's why Quinn used today wasn't as dominant as
- 5:46Speaker 4: he was in other games because Canada was pushing it offensively.
- 5:51Speaker 4: They always had the puck and it was it became
- 5:55Speaker 4: a grinding game.
- 5:56Speaker 5: And and Jack Hughes actually had a couple of bus
- 5:59Speaker 5: of teeth but he also that high sticking and and
- 6:02Speaker 5: you know he overcame that and scored the game winner.
- 6:05Speaker 5: And Ryan and I were watching it together. I mean, Ryan,
- 6:08Speaker 5: what a moment to watch. We could have been anywhere,
- 6:11Speaker 5: a bar or whatever, but to be right where we were,
- 6:13Speaker 5: which is perfect.
- 6:15Speaker 7: No literally anywhere. I mean, whether it was Barelli's elsewhere.
- 6:18Speaker 6: In the city or heck even at one eleven Broadway,
- 6:22Speaker 6: of all places where we were catching the game this morning.
- 6:25Speaker 6: I mean, the emotion was just still so palpable either way.
- 6:30Speaker 6: And seeing that high sticking from Hughes, I thought for sure,
- 6:34Speaker 6: if the US lost right then and there, that would
- 6:38Speaker 6: probably single handedly be the moment that the Jersey fans would.
- 6:42Speaker 7: Turn on him.
- 6:43Speaker 6: But yet that just hasn't been the case. I mean,
- 6:46Speaker 6: he lived long enough here to become the hero. And
- 6:50Speaker 6: that's exactly what people are going to be saying for
- 6:52Speaker 6: the rest of eternity, Jack American hero.
- 6:56Speaker 5: You know, for both of you, I have to say,
- 6:59Speaker 5: brock Nelson, guy, I know he's with the Avalanche now,
- 7:02Speaker 5: but he's an island and island at Hard Islander one
- 7:05Speaker 5: with the other New York teams today.
- 7:07Speaker 2: That's how I look at it.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Well, brock Nelson is going to be pass a chance
- 7:12Speaker 4: to pull a Ken Morrow winning the gold medal and
- 7:15Speaker 4: the Stanley Cup because they will be favored when the
- 7:18Speaker 4: season ends to win the Stanley Cup.
- 7:20Speaker 3: They may not win it, but the Colorado.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Avalanche will be the favorites going going into the Stanley
- 7:25Speaker 4: Cup playoffs. I'm happy for him. He had he had
- 7:28Speaker 4: a very good tournament. Quin Whus had a great tournament,
- 7:31Speaker 4: Halla Buck had a great tournament. Dylan Larkin had a
- 7:34Speaker 4: great tournament. Jack Hughes had a great tournament. Again, America
- 7:39Speaker 4: is right up there with the superpowers with Sweden. Russia
- 7:42Speaker 4: wasn't there, but they're right up there with them with Canada.
- 7:46Speaker 3: And that's good. That's good for hockey.
- 7:48Speaker 2: You know, Lou and I were talking about the medal yesterday.
- 7:50Speaker 5: Ryan and I said to myself, after watching this, I
- 7:53Speaker 5: don't care about the medal, County.
- 7:54Speaker 2: This is the medal.
- 7:55Speaker 5: This is the medal we all wanted from the very
- 7:58Speaker 5: beginning of the tournament. And I would say even after
- 8:01Speaker 5: the Four Nations Cup, we all had our eyes on okay,
- 8:05Speaker 5: now we all just get the gold next year, and
- 8:07Speaker 5: here we are celebraty gold medal.
- 8:09Speaker 2: It's it's it's so surreal to say it's surreal to
- 8:11Speaker 2: see it in person like this.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Is so it really is, especially with the devastating loss
- 8:16Speaker 6: in the Four Nations right in the rear view mirror.
- 8:19Speaker 6: And I mean, you took the words right out of
- 8:21Speaker 6: my mouth.
- 8:22Speaker 7: Hear Alex. This was the matchup.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Everybody was so looking forward to it because everybody knew
- 8:28Speaker 6: this was going to be the heavyweight battle. Come twenty
- 8:31Speaker 6: twenty six, and here we are US men's hockey taking
- 8:34Speaker 6: home the gold. US women's hockey also taking home the
- 8:37Speaker 6: gold clean sweep overall in the hockey stage. And yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 6: the US may not.
- 8:41Speaker 7: Have ended the Olympics with the most medals.
- 8:43Speaker 6: But I believe when I checked this morning, they were
- 8:46Speaker 6: number two behind I believe Norway.
- 8:48Speaker 5: And in the in the Winter Olympics. Is that right,
- 8:53Speaker 5: lou They have the most gold medals they've won.
- 8:54Speaker 4: There was the most goal that they ever won. This
- 8:58Speaker 4: year was the most that they ever won in the
- 8:59Speaker 4: Winter Olympics.
- 9:01Speaker 5: So we're all going to go into the skiing competition
- 9:03Speaker 5: because I look at I saw a tough that we
- 9:04Speaker 5: should all do that. In twenty twenty twenty, twenty thirty,
- 9:08Speaker 5: twenty thirty. I guess why not?
- 9:10Speaker 7: Yeah, why the heck not at this point?
- 9:11Speaker 6: And I love how you brought up Nelly too because
- 9:15Speaker 6: the Team USA picture and I want to point this
- 9:17Speaker 6: out the Team USA picture after the medal ceremony.
- 9:22Speaker 7: Who was brock Nelson hugging you might ask in that
- 9:25Speaker 7: team picture?
- 9:25Speaker 6: Well, none other than kimber hour Back, senior VP of
- 9:30Speaker 6: Communications for the Islanders.
- 9:31Speaker 7: I just want to give a shout out to him as.
- 9:33Speaker 6: A former colleague of his ran in him a couple
- 9:35Speaker 6: of times, said Ubs Arena, and now he's a great
- 9:38Speaker 6: guy to get to know, so to see him get
- 9:41Speaker 6: to soak in all the glory as part of the
- 9:42Speaker 6: communications team for Team USA and Milan. I mean, you
- 9:46Speaker 6: cannot get more Islanders than that, even if a current
- 9:50Speaker 6: Islander didn't win a gold medal. But you know, brock
- 9:53Speaker 6: Nelson still an Islander at heart, and kimber Houerback has
- 9:57Speaker 6: the gold medal, So.
- 9:58Speaker 7: How about that?
- 9:59Speaker 3: All right?
- 9:59Speaker 5: Well, I gotta tell you about something and maybe all
- 10:02Speaker 5: listeners are would be interested to know this. If you
- 10:04Speaker 5: want to see Jack Hughes back in America. His first
- 10:08Speaker 5: games Wednesday night at least Newark is Wednesday night and
- 10:12Speaker 5: I think it's against the Peguich I find interesting, but no,
- 10:15Speaker 5: it's gonna be Wednesday.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Night, and I don't know.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I might try and go through my tick pick because look,
- 10:21Speaker 5: you get to see the gold medal hero in person.
- 10:24Speaker 2: You gotta do it before the end of the year,
- 10:26Speaker 2: right guys.
- 10:26Speaker 4: And I'm sure the Devil's will do some kind of
- 10:29Speaker 4: on ice presentation with Jack Hughes on Wednesday night. I
- 10:34Speaker 4: know they've done it in the past when Broduor won
- 10:37Speaker 4: he won the gold medal in two thousand and two
- 10:39Speaker 4: against the United States, so I'm sure something like that
- 10:43Speaker 4: that might might occur.
- 10:47Speaker 3: You know, there's so many turns and twists and turns
- 10:51Speaker 3: in this game. Today.
- 10:52Speaker 4: When I thought they were done and I really thought
- 10:56Speaker 4: they used penalty.
- 10:57Speaker 3: At the end, I says they're going to score. Ken's
- 10:59Speaker 3: gonna four here and they're going to end it.
- 11:04Speaker 5: And let me tell you, I mean, look, the two
- 11:06Speaker 5: goaltenders played a hell of a tournament at Bennington and
- 11:10Speaker 5: is Ryan pointed out alf Air not a good regular
- 11:13Speaker 5: season for him. It's been a rough swing since he
- 11:15Speaker 5: actually won the couple few years ago. And then Hella
- 11:18Speaker 5: Buck the.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Guy gets criticized for his postseason play last year for
- 11:22Speaker 1: Winnipeg wins the goal the international stage turns these guys up.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I think that's what it is.
- 11:28Speaker 6: No, it's just so funny how that works out too.
- 11:30Speaker 6: I mean exactly what I was telling you. Alex Bennington,
- 11:34Speaker 6: I believe was probably a bottom three goalie in terms
- 11:38Speaker 6: of his regular season stats in the NHL right now.
- 11:42Speaker 7: But what's so funny about this man, and.
- 11:44Speaker 6: I guess this is the reason why he's still the
- 11:47Speaker 6: starter for the Blues even with all his struggles, is
- 11:50Speaker 6: that when the games actually matter, the dude turns into
- 11:54Speaker 6: Martin Brodoor. And yes, I know there's a bit of
- 11:57Speaker 6: a Blues connection. Marty Brodor did play for the Blues
- 11:59Speaker 6: for I believe, the last season of his career, so
- 12:02Speaker 6: you may have that connection going, but no, he still
- 12:06Speaker 6: shows up what it matters the most. He's still a
- 12:08Speaker 6: Stanley Cup winning goalie now an Olympic gold medal winner,
- 12:14Speaker 6: so you know you got that going for you, and hellabuck,
- 12:17Speaker 6: I mean, still one of the most dominant netminders in
- 12:21Speaker 6: the league right now.
- 12:22Speaker 7: Again, you can say what you want about his postseason struggles.
- 12:24Speaker 6: And all that, but he shows up what it matters
- 12:26Speaker 6: the most and even with the Jets struggles this year
- 12:30Speaker 6: after coming off the President's Trophy in twenty five, I mean,
- 12:34Speaker 6: if he can get back to the world's well I
- 12:37Speaker 6: shouldn't say the world because he was just on the
- 12:39Speaker 6: world's biggest stage, but on the NHL's biggest stage.
- 12:43Speaker 7: If he can get back to that, then now his Olympic.
- 12:46Speaker 6: Form is something I would love to see because he,
- 12:49Speaker 6: I would argue, single handedly carried the Americans to the
- 12:52Speaker 6: win that day, being.
- 12:53Speaker 7: Able to stop all.
- 12:55Speaker 6: Those Canadian opportunities on the five on three then the
- 12:58Speaker 6: five on four. I mean, you don't really get that
- 13:02Speaker 6: from any most other netlinders.
- 13:05Speaker 4: And like you like about to save on two minutes
- 13:09Speaker 4: into the third period, he had the backyard. He used
- 13:14Speaker 4: a paddle the top of the of the stick to
- 13:16Speaker 4: to to make the stay to save.
- 13:19Speaker 5: When I was a kid, I was playing goalie and
- 13:21Speaker 5: it was adaptive, so it was a nerve like a
- 13:24Speaker 5: WHI but still I was sliding around back in net
- 13:27Speaker 5: like I was making good and I'm like, this is
- 13:28Speaker 5: what he's doing right now, Like he's he's sliding around
- 13:31Speaker 5: that net making all these incredible saves. And you know,
- 13:34Speaker 5: Kenny Albert and al Chick, great job, but can he
- 13:36Speaker 5: made made her point. He now goes back to Canada
- 13:39Speaker 5: and UH has to r yeah for America. So same
- 13:44Speaker 5: with your guy who you were talking about a lot
- 13:46Speaker 5: this last couple of days, Austin Matthews.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Let's go to him.
- 13:51Speaker 5: I know last night you were saying how much of
- 13:52Speaker 5: a performance any out of him? His name wasn't called
- 13:55Speaker 5: up a lot. But what did you think today?
- 13:58Speaker 3: Actually? I know what a tight checking game.
- 14:01Speaker 4: I know that opportunities were going to be scarce for
- 14:04Speaker 4: the big guys even though there were a lot of
- 14:06Speaker 4: opportunities in this game.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I really wanted them to take over.
- 14:09Speaker 4: And as I said to you yesterday on the podcast,
- 14:14Speaker 4: Austin Matthews is going to be looked on by in
- 14:17Speaker 4: both sides of the border.
- 14:19Speaker 3: He plays for the most popular.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Team in Canada, Toronto Maple Leafs that are on this
- 14:23Speaker 4: incredible fifty year plus draft, and.
- 14:30Speaker 3: They're gonna say where was he today?
- 14:32Speaker 4: Yes, statistically he'll look good, but he wasn't dominant. He
- 14:37Speaker 4: wasn't dominant like a nineteen year old Macklin Celebrini who
- 14:42Speaker 4: had a dominant tournament. Guys, what do you think of Celebrini?
- 14:45Speaker 4: The kids in the second year in the league. He's nineteen.
- 14:49Speaker 3: How many opportunities did he have today? I mean, he
- 14:53Speaker 3: was his fire.
- 14:55Speaker 5: That was an open butt, and we were like frustrating
- 14:57Speaker 5: because at one point they were just giving the puck
- 14:59Speaker 5: up in the new t It's like, what are we doing?
- 15:01Speaker 5: What celebrating took it down the ice? Uh hellibuck saved him.
- 15:04Speaker 5: But you could just tell that kid was hungry and
- 15:07Speaker 5: he has been on a tournament. And then, as Ryan said,
- 15:10Speaker 5: when Shaeffer gets on this team, you know, four years,
- 15:17Speaker 5: we'll have to see about.
- 15:18Speaker 7: That him and Celebrini on the same team.
- 15:21Speaker 6: Oh yeah, especially with their advanced development that they're going
- 15:24Speaker 6: to have in the next few years. I wish anybody
- 15:28Speaker 6: the best of luck trying to get through that. And
- 15:31Speaker 6: you know that you also got to give credit to
- 15:33Speaker 6: the US for capitalizing on this window too, before you
- 15:37Speaker 6: get all these younger prodigies like Schaeffer, I mean, even
- 15:41Speaker 6: Celebrini to an extent, even with the tournament that he had,
- 15:43Speaker 6: and you know, with his success in the Olympics at
- 15:47Speaker 6: only nineteen, you can only imagine what he's going to
- 15:49Speaker 6: do the next time.
- 15:50Speaker 7: That he's on the world's biggest stage for Team Canada.
- 15:53Speaker 3: The opportunities are limitless, unlimited. The San Jose Sharks are
- 15:57Speaker 3: in good shape. That's sure.
- 15:58Speaker 7: They're very good shop because if he's captaining the ship.
- 16:02Speaker 4: There one thing that was worrying me in the second
- 16:04Speaker 4: period and in the early part of the third, United
- 16:07Speaker 4: States was taking way too many icings. They just got
- 16:10Speaker 4: the puck and they were icing the puck, which actually
- 16:13Speaker 4: Quinny was actually ice the puck when in had to
- 16:15Speaker 4: and Horvat wont to draw and they scored.
- 16:18Speaker 2: And look at that another icing.
- 16:20Speaker 4: It felt like there were way too many icings there
- 16:23Speaker 4: and you can all get away with it for so
- 16:25Speaker 4: long before it bites you in the butt, and that
- 16:27Speaker 4: that that cost them, That cost them a goal.
- 16:30Speaker 3: But they got through it.
- 16:32Speaker 5: And asked you about this question, why does it feel
- 16:35Speaker 5: like Olympic plays just faster? Like I've noticed this in
- 16:37Speaker 5: the other Olympics too, but in the Olympics years, but
- 16:40Speaker 5: this year it felt really like a fast game. I
- 16:42Speaker 5: said to Ryan, you know, it's almost a three hour
- 16:45Speaker 5: game these regular hockey games, and then like three and
- 16:48Speaker 5: a half hours because of all the commercials. This one
- 16:50Speaker 5: felt that maybe because no commercials, I don't know.
- 16:52Speaker 4: And it is because there's less TV timeouts. The Olympic
- 16:57Speaker 4: hockey is is done quicker, but the game was fast
- 17:02Speaker 4: paced on the ice. I mean, and we talked about
- 17:05Speaker 4: it again yesterday what we said.
- 17:07Speaker 3: This is the greatest I mean, this is the greatest
- 17:10Speaker 3: time in the history of the National Hockey League. And
- 17:13Speaker 3: you know, I've been watching hockey for over sixty years.
- 17:15Speaker 4: The skill level of these guys, from the goaltenders on
- 17:19Speaker 4: out are just amazing and not this is not too
- 17:23Speaker 4: disparage guys when I started watching hockey in the sixties,
- 17:26Speaker 4: but they did not have the skill.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Level that these guys have today. This is the one
- 17:30Speaker 3: sport that I will never say, boy, I wish it
- 17:32Speaker 3: was the.
- 17:32Speaker 8: Good old days, like say the NBA or Major League Baseball.
- 17:36Speaker 8: Oh yeah, yeah, not in the National Hockey League. And
- 17:40Speaker 8: I really think it's because of the rise of international hockey.
- 17:44Speaker 8: You know, you go back and this is way before
- 17:45Speaker 8: your guys, time of the Summit Series in seventy two
- 17:48Speaker 8: and then all the Canada Cups opened up the world
- 17:51Speaker 8: to all these brilliant players who now play in the
- 17:54Speaker 8: highest level in the world National Hockey League.
- 17:58Speaker 3: It's tremendous it really ends it is.
- 18:02Speaker 2: It is fun.
- 18:03Speaker 5: Well, you know, now the questions where do we go
- 18:05Speaker 5: from here? I'm imagining they're gonna throw some kind of
- 18:07Speaker 5: parade in.
- 18:07Speaker 1: New York for these both these teams, at least they should,
- 18:10Speaker 1: but maybe the way to that season, because now they
- 18:12Speaker 1: all gonna go back to competition.
- 18:13Speaker 2: So maybe in the summer we'll see it.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you might see it.
- 18:15Speaker 4: After the season, they might, they might do something along
- 18:19Speaker 4: those lines. I'm sure President Trump was very happy these
- 18:23Speaker 4: last three or four days.
- 18:24Speaker 5: Oh did you see they saw the American eagle smashing
- 18:27Speaker 5: down the Canadian goose and the ice.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It was kind of funny the way I did.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I did not see that.
- 18:33Speaker 6: I was pretty funny to see this coming after former
- 18:38Speaker 6: Prime Minister Trudeau making a tweet about Americans.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Not being able to take Canadians.
- 18:44Speaker 6: Game from them, and then sure enough the Americans just
- 18:47Speaker 6: going on to win it overtime. I mean, regardless of
- 18:51Speaker 6: how you feel about it politically, you just kind of
- 18:54Speaker 6: love the irony about it, you really don't.
- 18:56Speaker 5: I want to mention that point because overall in the Olympics,
- 18:59Speaker 5: whenever in America did win.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Gold, there did not bad mouth anything about this country.
- 19:03Speaker 5: It was really one of those rare things because some
- 19:05Speaker 5: of these idiots when they get a gold medal or something,
- 19:08Speaker 5: they do bash the country, which I don't understand on
- 19:10Speaker 5: foreign soil. At least these athletes this year didn't do that.
- 19:13Speaker 5: They were actually very like I've felt American pride more
- 19:16Speaker 5: than the other years.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Sometimes would you say that lose Zach.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Well, just listen to the Jack Hughes interview with Kristen Tappan.
- 19:23Speaker 4: I mean, that's American patriotism for an athlete at its best.
- 19:27Speaker 4: The poor guy couldn't even talk straight because he had
- 19:30Speaker 4: his teeth knocked out. He was still bleeding, but he's
- 19:33Speaker 4: still he's still said out much he loved to be
- 19:36Speaker 4: part of that team, how much he loved to be
- 19:37Speaker 4: an American. We did it for our country, and that
- 19:43Speaker 4: was That was quite an interview by the young kid.
- 19:47Speaker 4: And hey, I'm proud to be I'm always proud to
- 19:51Speaker 4: be an.
- 19:51Speaker 6: American exactly, nothing quite better than being able to represent
- 19:56Speaker 6: this country on the world's biggest stage.
- 19:58Speaker 7: And I know sometimes and you see it with some
- 20:01Speaker 7: of these athletes, that.
- 20:02Speaker 6: Translation gets pretty easily lost and they're bashing their own country.
- 20:07Speaker 7: In other words, just biting the hand that feeds them.
- 20:10Speaker 6: But you know, with US men's hockey in particular, you
- 20:13Speaker 6: don't really get that. And no, I guess a lot
- 20:16Speaker 6: of it probably has to do with the overall history
- 20:19Speaker 6: of the program, to how much significance they played in
- 20:22Speaker 6: the history of the country, even if it's been a
- 20:25Speaker 6: little more recent. And I'm sure it can't be ignored too,
- 20:28Speaker 6: the fact that this took place forty six years to
- 20:31Speaker 6: the day of the Miracle on Ice in nineteen eighty
- 20:34Speaker 6: and even a few months back reading Ken Morrow's memoir
- 20:38Speaker 6: and talking about his experiences in Lake Placid and what
- 20:43Speaker 6: it truly meant to be not just a part of
- 20:46Speaker 6: that nineteen eighty Miracle on Ice team, but also really
- 20:50Speaker 6: to be forever a part of a history, and jumping
- 20:53Speaker 6: right back from the Olympics.
- 20:55Speaker 7: Right into the NHL right after that, and I'm just
- 20:59Speaker 7: going to dressed fields that year so.
- 21:03Speaker 5: And then and this year they're doing on two or
- 21:05Speaker 5: three days rest, which I find pretty remarkable. So we'll
- 21:08Speaker 5: have to see how that plays out.
- 21:09Speaker 3: A couple of things. Now that we have the Olympic.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Games behind us, and it's almost hard to believe we
- 21:15Speaker 4: have to go back to NHL regular season so quickly.
- 21:19Speaker 3: But this how badly injured is Sidney Crosby? That affects
- 21:23Speaker 3: the Islanders.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Christ The Islands and the Penns are right there for
- 21:27Speaker 4: you know, second and third place in the Metropolitan Division.
- 21:30Speaker 4: If how how bad is Sidney Crosby? Is his knee
- 21:34Speaker 4: really that bad?
- 21:35Speaker 3: Is he going to be back in a week? Is
- 21:37Speaker 3: he going to miss six months, six weeks, six days.
- 21:41Speaker 3: He's thirty eight years old and he's had another very
- 21:43Speaker 3: good year.
- 21:44Speaker 4: When remember before the season began, they said that the
- 21:47Speaker 4: Penguins when that we're going to be in a Gavin
- 21:50Speaker 4: McKenna sweepstake for number one overall in the in the draft,
- 21:54Speaker 4: and they're going to trade they might trade.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Corusby at the deadline, and.
- 22:01Speaker 4: They've had a good year, and I just wonder how
- 22:04Speaker 4: badly injured he really is?
- 22:06Speaker 3: That'll have effect on the playoff phrase.
- 22:09Speaker 6: Yeah, and then too with how a lot of these
- 22:13Speaker 6: hockey injuries in this day and age aren't really defined.
- 22:16Speaker 6: I mean, unless you cannot physically walk, it's a lower.
- 22:21Speaker 7: Body injury, that's really about it.
- 22:22Speaker 6: So nobody is really gonna know, at least until the
- 22:25Speaker 6: Pens are done in the playoff picture as to how
- 22:29Speaker 6: bad Sidney Crosby's knee is.
- 22:31Speaker 7: But you know, if you're.
- 22:32Speaker 6: A Pittsburgh fan right now, I mean you definitely got
- 22:35Speaker 6: to be hoping for the best. As far as Crossby's knee,
- 22:38Speaker 6: I mean, yes, he might still be considered a superstar
- 22:41Speaker 6: even at his advanced stage, and he's far away one
- 22:45Speaker 6: of the reasons the Pens are even here. Yeah, in
- 22:48Speaker 6: the first absolutely, So to lose him when the stakes
- 22:51Speaker 6: are gonna matter all the more, I mean, it's it's
- 22:53Speaker 6: gonna be crucial. And then you got to wonder whether
- 22:56Speaker 6: or not the Pens still go all in on a
- 23:00Speaker 6: piece to replace Crosby's production if he's going to be
- 23:03Speaker 6: out long term.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Yeah, no, we don't know.
- 23:05Speaker 4: That's just the thing. I actually expected to see him today.
- 23:09Speaker 4: But so him not playing, you know, we must be
- 23:11Speaker 4: hurt pretty badly.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was.
- 23:14Speaker 6: Being in full uniform for the metal ceremony. You could
- 23:17Speaker 6: tell he wanted to be on the ice that bad.
- 23:19Speaker 5: And oh no that and by the way, I'm say,
- 23:23Speaker 5: pick up the slack big time only celebrnian, But I
- 23:26Speaker 5: talked about him a lot.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Connor McDavid. He actually had a lot of historic history.
- 23:29Speaker 5: This Olympics that people have now with the gold medal
- 23:32Speaker 5: for the US don't really talk about.
- 23:34Speaker 2: But he had a pre record breaking Olympics slop.
- 23:38Speaker 3: He's the best player in the world. He's the fastest
- 23:40Speaker 3: player in the world.
- 23:41Speaker 4: He's the best passing player in the world. He packed
- 23:47Speaker 4: every time he had the punk in the US zone.
- 23:51Speaker 4: I was terrified, especially when they had him on the
- 23:53Speaker 4: line with McKinnon and macklin celebrin. Uh, can you imagine
- 23:58Speaker 4: if they were all on one team for eighty two games.
- 24:02Speaker 7: We'll be over for everybody else.
- 24:03Speaker 3: It'll be yeah, if it over. So now I thought
- 24:09Speaker 3: he was great.
- 24:10Speaker 4: You could see the disappointment on his face when they
- 24:13Speaker 4: showed him sitting on the bench and when I showed
- 24:15Speaker 4: him and they received his his silver medal. And you know,
- 24:17Speaker 4: the old joke is you never want the silver medal,
- 24:20Speaker 4: you want the gold. But when you're playing in the
- 24:21Speaker 4: bronze medal game, you know you'll uh, you'll kill you
- 24:25Speaker 4: you'll kill to.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Win the to win the bronze medal.
- 24:28Speaker 4: It's it's really it's really a strange thing with with this,
- 24:32Speaker 4: with the gold, silver and bronze situation.
- 24:35Speaker 3: You know, Canada plays for Canada doesn't play for silver.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Canada plays for gold, and uh, you know, disappointed you
- 24:42Speaker 3: can't win every year.
- 24:44Speaker 4: As Quinn you said, this would have been this would
- 24:47Speaker 4: have been a great best of seven series.
- 24:49Speaker 3: I don't know how many guys would still been standing.
- 24:52Speaker 4: After a seven game series because they they're putting their
- 24:56Speaker 4: life on the line. You know, Americans in that second
- 24:59Speaker 4: in that second period, being whenever, being dominated by by Canada,
- 25:03Speaker 4: just getting their sticks in a way, get blocking shots,
- 25:08Speaker 4: just just.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Very just heroic. It really was.
- 25:12Speaker 5: And if you thought the spirit of eighty wasn't alive,
- 25:14Speaker 5: I mean Jim Craig was posting on Instagram all the
- 25:17Speaker 5: time the last couple of days, Mike Ruzy on, he
- 25:20Speaker 5: was there by the way Eruzione.
- 25:23Speaker 7: Of course there it is Alex, he.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Was in attendance.
- 25:26Speaker 5: So I felt like that spirit of eighty was there today,
- 25:29Speaker 5: no doubt, Team on.
- 25:31Speaker 4: And I know we talked about this Alex yes and
- 25:34Speaker 4: yesterday's podcast, but I gotta say it again, the NBC
- 25:38Speaker 4: broadcast crew throughout these games really don't matter who was
- 25:41Speaker 4: doing them, was great. Tarico was the host today. As
- 25:44Speaker 4: we said, Mike Urico can do anything. He could do
- 25:47Speaker 4: football he could do. He could do basketball. He's done
- 25:50Speaker 4: some hockey, he's done golf, he's done horse racing. He's
- 25:55Speaker 4: so talented, he could do anything. And he made one
- 25:58Speaker 4: more mistake today. He said, forty six years ago they
- 26:01Speaker 4: won the gold medal, But it was really they beat
- 26:04Speaker 4: the Soviet Union forty six years ago today, and it
- 26:07Speaker 4: was February twenty fourth when they beat Finland to win
- 26:09Speaker 4: the gold medal. But that's just nitpicking. He's Tarico's brilliant,
- 26:13Speaker 4: Kenny Alberts brilliant.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Ultimate outlet was every reason to meet.
- 26:18Speaker 5: Outlet has seemingly confused that that was just a game
- 26:22Speaker 5: to get to everybody.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Everybody thinks, when we beat the Soviet Union, we want
- 26:28Speaker 4: the gold medal, and we didn't. And if we had
- 26:30Speaker 4: lost that day, because there was a different format based
- 26:33Speaker 4: on other results, the United States could not there was
- 26:37Speaker 4: a chance they was not even won the bronze medal.
- 26:40Speaker 4: But that that forty six years ago on this coming Tuesday, amazing.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Well, so here we are. It's exciting stuff.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Now.
- 26:50Speaker 5: I was gonna say, going into the NHL, I mean,
- 26:54Speaker 5: how long of a transition he doesn't take. I think
- 26:56Speaker 5: these guys have slow legs. For the first couple of
- 26:58Speaker 5: games back, right, I wouldn't be surprised.
- 27:01Speaker 4: And I don't know Ryan, if you agree with me
- 27:03Speaker 4: or not if some of the guys who played for
- 27:05Speaker 4: the United States and Canada may not play in the
- 27:08Speaker 4: first game back on Wednesday and Thursday night one hundred percent.
- 27:12Speaker 6: And I mean you look at Bohrbat good example, starting
- 27:16Speaker 6: back up as NHL Slate Thursday in Montreal. I'm not
- 27:20Speaker 6: expecting to see him play, and I feel like you
- 27:22Speaker 6: could really see the same for Jack Hughes once he
- 27:25Speaker 6: returns to Jersey on Wednesday night. As you were alluding
- 27:29Speaker 6: to earlier, Alex, like, the jet lag is still going
- 27:32Speaker 6: to hit them pretty fairly hard, no question about that,
- 27:36Speaker 6: and you know you're going to need time to overcome that,
- 27:39Speaker 6: especially with a lot of these guys hopping right back
- 27:41Speaker 6: into playoff pushes. I know a lot of these NHL
- 27:45Speaker 6: front offices are going to want to play just super
- 27:49Speaker 6: super safe.
- 27:50Speaker 7: So I'm not at.
- 27:52Speaker 6: All going to be surprised if it takes them perhaps
- 27:54Speaker 6: a game or two to get back into full action.
- 27:56Speaker 7: But you know, from a player.
- 27:58Speaker 6: Helps perspective, the last thing you want to do is
- 28:01Speaker 6: just throw them right back into the fire anyway. I
- 28:03Speaker 6: mean that would just be worst case, especially for a
- 28:05Speaker 6: team on the push.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Yeah, the Canadian Olympic team and the delegation and the
- 28:12Speaker 4: US Olympic team and delegation room both flying into New
- 28:15Speaker 4: York City and then they were going to scatter to their.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Their eventual teams sides.
- 28:21Speaker 9: But because of the blizzard that way, that has started
- 28:24Speaker 9: as we speak, that they're going to fly into Miami,
- 28:29Speaker 9: both the Canadian and.
- 28:31Speaker 4: The US team tomorrow. They're flying into Miami and then
- 28:36Speaker 4: they're going to scatther But I'm going to tell you
- 28:39Speaker 4: the Rangers, Islanders and Devils guys who are on the
- 28:41Speaker 4: Canadian and the American teams mate are not to be
- 28:44Speaker 4: able to fly.
- 28:44Speaker 3: In tomorrow night from Miami.
- 28:47Speaker 4: So yeah, so it's gonna be interesting to see. I
- 28:52Speaker 4: think you'll see some Conna Hellibuck will not be on
- 28:55Speaker 4: in the nets for the Winnipeg Jets that first game.
- 28:58Speaker 3: I would be shocked.
- 29:02Speaker 5: He's any of the congratulations from the crowd. I mean
- 29:04Speaker 5: maybe he'd be candidates. So it'll be interesting to see
- 29:06Speaker 5: how people well.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Again, as I told you, yes, they want to win
- 29:11Speaker 3: the gold medal. We saw it today.
- 29:14Speaker 4: But three months from now, they're gonna want to win
- 29:17Speaker 4: the Stanley Cup. And I know Winnipeg is went from
- 29:20Speaker 4: Presidence Trophy to they need a miracle to uh uh
- 29:24Speaker 4: to get into the playoff, They're really gonna have to
- 29:25Speaker 4: get hot.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Same thing with the defending champion Florida Panthers.
- 29:31Speaker 4: I still even though Matthew Chuck had a good tournament,
- 29:35Speaker 4: I still think he's hurt from last year's Four Nations.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 29:39Speaker 5: I have a question for both of you because this
- 29:42Speaker 5: win is beyond just the hockey ice. I mean, this
- 29:44Speaker 5: is like a unifying moment time where we need unity
- 29:48Speaker 5: in this country.
- 29:49Speaker 2: So does it last? Are we all gonna be hating
- 29:50Speaker 2: each other tomorrow?
- 29:51Speaker 6: Like?
- 29:51Speaker 2: How long is it's gonna carry over for a while?
- 29:55Speaker 4: I wish I could say it would carry over for
- 29:57Speaker 4: a long time, but I doesn't.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Adm short carried over for a long time.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I mean eighty you know you had the
- 30:04Speaker 3: hostage situation. It was, you know, the cool wall was
- 30:08Speaker 3: still really going on.
- 30:10Speaker 4: It was you know, it's going to go on for
- 30:12Speaker 4: another ten years. So yeah, Unfortunately, I don't know if
- 30:18Speaker 4: it's gonna stick like nineteen eighty.
- 30:21Speaker 3: I hope it goes.
- 30:22Speaker 6: Because you also got to take into account to the
- 30:24Speaker 6: nineteen eighty team. I mean that was more of a
- 30:27Speaker 6: miracle team if anything, compared to correct twenty six. Nineteen
- 30:30Speaker 6: eighty yeah, yeah, had guys that made the show, But
- 30:34Speaker 6: had any of them really played in NHL action before?
- 30:37Speaker 7: No, not really.
- 30:38Speaker 6: I mean from a lot of them, this was not
- 30:39Speaker 6: their first time being on such a bright stage. I mean,
- 30:43Speaker 6: say you look at a guy like Ken Morrow went
- 30:45Speaker 6: on to play in four straight Stanley Cups, but before
- 30:48Speaker 6: that nineteen eighty Olympics, this was his big exposure. And
- 30:52Speaker 6: these guys going up against a bunch of Roman Soviets,
- 30:56Speaker 6: some of the best hockey players in the world at
- 30:58Speaker 6: that point. I mean, that's more of a miracle team
- 31:01Speaker 6: if anything. In lou and Alex I know and you
- 31:04Speaker 6: I'm sure you two can agree with this as well,
- 31:06Speaker 6: because we were just talking about it on the phone
- 31:08Speaker 6: after the game today. But that twenty twenty six, yeah, well,
- 31:13Speaker 6: the US still technically an underdog, a miracle team.
- 31:18Speaker 3: I'm not not even close.
- 31:20Speaker 7: Probably not just because there had any colors.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Well, the main the main song that I'm seeing this
- 31:26Speaker 5: was no miracle is what I'm hearing.
- 31:28Speaker 2: USA hockey said, no.
- 31:30Speaker 3: This was no miracle. Is now is now a hockey power?
- 31:34Speaker 3: It is? It's American sports.
- 31:36Speaker 5: Because let's be honest, this sport, amongst the other three,
- 31:41Speaker 5: has not been getting the I mean, it's popular, but
- 31:43Speaker 5: it's not up there right now.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Maybe it doesn't.
- 31:47Speaker 4: It's mostly because the way the media how they how
- 31:50Speaker 4: they talk about the various sports.
- 31:52Speaker 3: But I mean there hockey is. If this game was
- 31:56Speaker 3: at three o'clock like it was in twenty.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Ten, there had been over forty million people viewing this game,
- 32:02Speaker 4: it would have been an NFL number. Yeah, there was twenty
- 32:06Speaker 4: seven point seven in twenty ten. And hockey has grown
- 32:10Speaker 4: so much in the last sixteen years in the United States,
- 32:13Speaker 4: and as we.
- 32:14Speaker 5: All know here in the Tri State, we're hungry for
- 32:16Speaker 5: good hockey. I mean it's been a little bit and
- 32:18Speaker 5: so to finally see this and actually be excited for
- 32:21Speaker 5: every shift, I mean I was rooted on every shift today.
- 32:24Speaker 5: It wasn't just one moment. It was like you were
- 32:26Speaker 5: on the EDGRC for every moment of this game.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I think you really were.
- 32:30Speaker 4: You're watching, you're watching line changes, you're watching everything. Yes,
- 32:34Speaker 4: America did get lucky today. In a second period when
- 32:38Speaker 4: they when the two NHL officials referees and the one linesman,
- 32:44Speaker 4: Scott Sherry, they swall their whistle when America had seven
- 32:47Speaker 4: men on the ice for about five seconds and Jack
- 32:50Speaker 4: Hughes did touch the puck going off the ice which shouldn't,
- 32:53Speaker 4: which should have definitely triggered a two minute penalty.
- 32:56Speaker 3: But you know, that's the way it goes.
- 32:59Speaker 5: That's hockey. So what happens at that sports really? So
- 33:03Speaker 5: here we are gold medals and I don't know, I
- 33:08Speaker 5: guess for me, I'm looking forward to the Baseball Classic.
- 33:10Speaker 5: I know lou hates this best Stisica.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Again, Let's just leave it to hockey today. Let's leave
- 33:15Speaker 3: at the hockey today. It celebrate the third goal for
- 33:19Speaker 3: US hockey.
- 33:20Speaker 6: Because, if I want to think it the last time
- 33:22Speaker 6: my team was involved in the World Baseball Classic.
- 33:24Speaker 5: I mean, well, let me ask you about this. Do
- 33:25Speaker 5: you think these teams should throw individual parades for these guys?
- 33:28Speaker 5: I mean, especially in America. I mean I feel like
- 33:31Speaker 5: you should do a loathing around Newark just for Jack Hughes.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Well, like I said, I don't know if they have
- 33:37Speaker 4: the timeline to do that, but they're going to that.
- 33:40Speaker 4: I would be shocked if they don't do some kind
- 33:44Speaker 4: of on a brief on ice ceremony. I mean, obviously
- 33:48Speaker 4: for Jack Hughes, he has scored the golden goal. He
- 33:51Speaker 4: has done what Sidney Crosby did in twenty ten, the
- 33:54Speaker 4: Golden Gold.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Great call by Kenny. Of course, he's spectaclic.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Though him and Eddie were going to start crying.
- 34:00Speaker 10: I have to make you, oh yeah, he did, Louis
- 34:13Speaker 10: I last year.
- 34:16Speaker 7: Okay, I'm still with you, all.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Right, Well, well Louis getting back there. No, I thought
- 34:22Speaker 5: we were watching it. I thought he was going to
- 34:23Speaker 5: start crying out of nowhere.
- 34:25Speaker 6: I mean, oh yeah, we were both saying the same
- 34:27Speaker 6: thing at one eleven Broadway, and even I was saying too.
- 34:31Speaker 7: And you could back me up on this, Alex, Eddie,
- 34:34Speaker 7: if you want to cry, I don't blame you one bit.
- 34:36Speaker 7: I mean, your American brother, one way or another.
- 34:39Speaker 6: I mean, you're probably just as happy as everybody else
- 34:41Speaker 6: celebrating this win, even if you're calling the game.
- 34:44Speaker 7: You know, can hurt to show some emotion if that's
- 34:47Speaker 7: what you want to do either way.
- 34:48Speaker 6: And I'm sure he's just super proud of what even
- 34:54Speaker 6: Kenny I thought he was gonna show a lot of
- 34:56Speaker 6: emotion too, and especially seeing Johnny good ros Jersey in celebration.
- 35:03Speaker 6: I had been getting celebrated by the whole team. It's
- 35:07Speaker 6: like you wanted me to cry at that point, and
- 35:10Speaker 6: seeing these two kids on the ice as well. I
- 35:14Speaker 6: mean it's times like this, especially that you know, I
- 35:18Speaker 6: missed john especially miss Johnny and Matthew Goodreau and what
- 35:22Speaker 6: could have been.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Uh, you're still with us, remember Ryan, Remember just before
- 35:30Speaker 4: he signed with Columbus.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Everybody thought that day he was gonna that.
- 35:33Speaker 4: Lou Lamarrello had him begged, the sign sealed and delivered
- 35:36Speaker 4: to the Islanders, and at the eleventh hour, Yeah, the
- 35:39Speaker 4: Blue Jackets swooped in and got him.
- 35:42Speaker 7: Yeah. I still remember that so vividly. Lou I was
- 35:46Speaker 7: convinced he was an Islander right then and there, wanting
- 35:48Speaker 7: to be closer to his family in Pennsylvania.
- 35:51Speaker 6: I mean, I thought, even if the Islanders didn't get
- 35:53Speaker 6: him that, oh, he'd be a Flyer for sure. And
- 35:56Speaker 6: I mean really, all they had to do was just
- 35:59Speaker 6: not half asset and they would have had the services
- 36:02Speaker 6: right then and there. And I actually still remember where
- 36:04Speaker 6: I was that day.
- 36:05Speaker 7: Lou I was.
- 36:06Speaker 6: Actually calling a Long Island Ducks game beth Fairfield Properties Ballpark,
- 36:11Speaker 6: and we'd just gone to a commercial break on w
- 36:14Speaker 6: r U where we carried all the Ducks broadcasts.
- 36:18Speaker 7: I believe we're going to the top of the second inning.
- 36:20Speaker 6: And that was when I got the notification that he
- 36:22Speaker 6: signed with Columbus and we maybe had before we came back,
- 36:26Speaker 6: and to try to hide my disappointment there it was
- 36:30Speaker 6: a bit of an ask, but you know, it wasn't
- 36:31Speaker 6: a huge ask.
- 36:34Speaker 7: But I mean, that's a whole other can of worms.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Though.
- 36:37Speaker 6: What the Islanders would have looked like right now had
- 36:40Speaker 6: this happened to them, you know, would they have almost
- 36:43Speaker 6: made the playoffs in a similar way to the Blue Jackets.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Right, yeah, who knows?
- 36:49Speaker 5: All right, well, I want I want to put this
- 36:50Speaker 5: in perspective because in the last year alone alone, last
- 36:54Speaker 5: year alone, I think it was either prior to four
- 36:57Speaker 5: Nations or after Benskin breaks the scoring record, you know,
- 37:02Speaker 5: the goals record, and then that alone was thousands of
- 37:05Speaker 5: dollars to get into the game that day in Linland.
- 37:09Speaker 2: And then you have the four Nations.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Now this I mean, if you're a hockey fan, I
- 37:13Speaker 5: know we have listeners Louis that are hockey fans. You
- 37:15Speaker 5: gotta be pretty positive on the on the upswing that
- 37:18Speaker 5: and as as Adioltich said, this will inspire nations generations
- 37:22Speaker 5: of other kids to play the game.
- 37:24Speaker 3: It's gonna be I hope so.
- 37:26Speaker 4: And remember in two years the NHL is bringing back
- 37:30Speaker 4: the World Cup of Hockey, and they're going to do
- 37:32Speaker 4: it in the middle of the season, like in February,
- 37:35Speaker 4: not in September like they did in the past. They're
- 37:38Speaker 4: gonna do it in the middle of the season, which
- 37:39Speaker 4: will have much more interest for the hockey fan.
- 37:44Speaker 3: You just hope you guy doesn't get hurt.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Like we talked yesterday, Kevin Fiala of the Kings, you
- 37:49Speaker 4: know he's out of the year. The Kings are only
- 37:51Speaker 4: a couple of points out of a playoff spot. Fiolo
- 37:53Speaker 4: is the second leading scorer. Do they they never had
- 37:56Speaker 4: a chance to pair him with with or Terry.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Pine who they just Scott? Do they make another trade?
- 38:04Speaker 3: The trade deadlines here.
- 38:06Speaker 4: March six, So once we get back into National Hockey
- 38:10Speaker 4: League on Wednesday night, there's a lot of stuff that's
- 38:12Speaker 4: going to be going on besides the games.
- 38:14Speaker 3: So I think the Islands are going to make a trade.
- 38:17Speaker 3: I think they couldn't make a trade.
- 38:19Speaker 6: I want to see that. I mean, if anything, Paul
- 38:23Speaker 6: Mary being out for the year, if you really want
- 38:26Speaker 6: to make that playoff push, if you're Matthew darsh, you
- 38:28Speaker 6: definitely try to add another score into the mix for sure.
- 38:31Speaker 7: And yes, getting Carson Seussie, getting Andre.
- 38:34Speaker 6: Pillott also in the Olympics, by the way, those two
- 38:38Speaker 6: moves were both a very good start.
- 38:40Speaker 7: Susie of course scoring.
- 38:41Speaker 6: In his homecoming in Madison Square Garden and putting the
- 38:45Speaker 6: Ales up at that point.
- 38:47Speaker 7: And Pallot he's also had a couple decent games with.
- 38:50Speaker 6: The Ales too, where he's looked like the guy that
- 38:54Speaker 6: they brought in solely to have that championship veteran experience
- 38:58Speaker 6: to the team.
- 38:59Speaker 7: But you don't really have somebody with.
- 39:03Speaker 6: That scoring presence that a guy like a healthy Kyle
- 39:07Speaker 6: Paul Mary could have provided you. So bym Matthew Darsh
- 39:10Speaker 6: and if I'm assessing my team's situation before March sixth,
- 39:14Speaker 6: I'm definitely looking at all my options and seeing, okay,
- 39:17Speaker 6: what scores are available out there that would be easy
- 39:22Speaker 6: to trade for it. And I'm sure he's going to
- 39:25Speaker 6: trade for somebody who's young and controllable, like I know
- 39:29Speaker 6: Steven Stamkost has been a frequent name among the Ales
- 39:33Speaker 6: rumor mill. I just don't see it happening, though, because
- 39:36Speaker 6: a big cap hit Ailes are almost up.
- 39:38Speaker 7: To the cap.
- 39:38Speaker 6: They'd have to be really, really creative to even try
- 39:41Speaker 6: to get him in the first place. And I mean,
- 39:43Speaker 6: he'd be the last kind of player that I would
- 39:45Speaker 6: expect Matthew darsh to go get for a team that
- 39:48Speaker 6: just won the draft lottery this.
- 39:50Speaker 4: Past year, right Bud, Ryan, he'd be He's exactly what
- 39:54Speaker 4: the Islanders need, especially on the power play when they
- 39:57Speaker 4: have so much trouble hundred percent.
- 40:00Speaker 6: And I mean, if anything, I'm sure even with that vision,
- 40:04Speaker 6: he's still target number one for them right now. Whether
- 40:08Speaker 6: or not they'd actually get him, though, I'd have to
- 40:10Speaker 6: see it to believe it.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say it's a long shot.
- 40:14Speaker 5: And but the Elders, I mean, I mean, Ryan and
- 40:15Speaker 5: I were at that game on the thirty first, one
- 40:16Speaker 5: of the last games before the Olympics, and they had
- 40:18Speaker 5: a frustrated loss against Nashville. I mean, it's gotta they
- 40:21Speaker 5: got to tighten up a little bit here. As I
- 40:23Speaker 5: do think they're a playoff contender, no doubt about it.
- 40:26Speaker 3: So yeah they should. They should be in it for
- 40:28Speaker 3: the rest of the year. You're gonna make it.
- 40:30Speaker 5: But you were an executive in the NBA, I mean,
- 40:32Speaker 5: let the nets know that, and actually in the sales
- 40:34Speaker 5: department and all that. If you're in the NHL right now,
- 40:39Speaker 5: you have to market this, don't you. I mean your
- 40:42Speaker 5: team team is a just one. The NHL cannot let
- 40:45Speaker 5: this go. They have to market this somehow.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Without a doubt. They have to market it. You have,
- 40:51Speaker 3: you have.
- 40:52Speaker 4: These are rare opportunities and if you don't grab the
- 40:55Speaker 4: bull by the horns and marketing so many different ways.
- 40:58Speaker 3: You have so many different platforms to market it.
- 41:01Speaker 4: Even since I've been out of the business, there's so
- 41:05Speaker 4: many more opportunities at platforms to market.
- 41:09Speaker 3: You gotta do it, you really do. Uh you know
- 41:13Speaker 3: send Uh have Jack Hughes do? Hey? Uh? Jack Heughs
- 41:17Speaker 3: just won the gold medal. Where are you going, Jack?
- 41:20Speaker 3: I'm going to Disney World, I'm going to Newark Airport.
- 41:23Speaker 3: I'm going somewhere, you know.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Going to Kings you things like that.
- 41:28Speaker 5: But yeah, well, yeah, I'm sure Woodbridge Brewing will be
- 41:34Speaker 5: doing something with him at some point.
- 41:35Speaker 4: Well, well, that would be a spot, that would be
- 41:38Speaker 4: a start, that would be a something, that.
- 41:40Speaker 7: Would be a very smart, smart idea for sure.
- 41:43Speaker 6: But then also with so many new hockey markets, so
- 41:46Speaker 6: many markets popping up to that in the past, maybe
- 41:49Speaker 6: we didn't necessarily think would be hockey markets or anything
- 41:53Speaker 6: like that. I'm looking right at Austin Matthews here, kid
- 41:57Speaker 6: was Arizona born, and now Arizona of course without an
- 42:01Speaker 6: NHL team after the Coyotes packed their bags for Utah,
- 42:05Speaker 6: and I know the stereotype there has been well, Arizona's
- 42:09Speaker 6: a little too warned, it's not a hockey market or
- 42:11Speaker 6: anything like that, but you've had good NHL players come
- 42:15Speaker 6: out of there, and.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Why they might try and get a team back in there,
- 42:19Speaker 2: I think so.
- 42:20Speaker 6: If not, don't be surprised if you see the NHL
- 42:22Speaker 6: try to get back into that Arizona market again, marketing
- 42:27Speaker 6: a guy like Austin Matthews, a man who captained the
- 42:30Speaker 6: United States to the gold medal, a local boy from Arizona,
- 42:35Speaker 6: and that, don't be surprised if they try to market that.
- 42:38Speaker 5: And how about it, Charlie McAvoy, and you know, wow.
- 42:44Speaker 4: I mean, Bean Commissioner Betman doesn't really didn't really want
- 42:50Speaker 4: to leave Phoenix. They just didn't have the arena. He
- 42:52Speaker 4: believes in the Phoenix market if they had a good arena.
- 42:55Speaker 4: So we'll say what happens down the road.
- 42:58Speaker 7: I mean, maybe if they can get a stable owner
- 43:00Speaker 7: in there, perhaps.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Then I hope that possible.
- 43:04Speaker 7: But they got to marketed accordingly.
- 43:06Speaker 5: And I hope to hire you, by the way, because
- 43:09Speaker 5: USA Hockey does a great job of letting you know
- 43:10Speaker 5: when the twelve and ups are going or that all
- 43:13Speaker 5: these world juniors are.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Happening to you.
- 43:15Speaker 5: I mean, I hope people follow those kids too, because
- 43:17Speaker 5: they're gonna be the next next man up on this
- 43:20Speaker 5: on these teams, if you will.
- 43:21Speaker 7: So they are the kids looking up to this current
- 43:23Speaker 7: group that just took home the gold medal.
- 43:25Speaker 5: I mean, and even in two years, they've been winning
- 43:27Speaker 5: a lot too. So, right, Louis, I think you've been
- 43:30Speaker 5: following that too.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 43:33Speaker 4: And you know what you talk about the young players
- 43:36Speaker 4: coming up. We know more about young players now than
- 43:38Speaker 4: we did even ten years ago.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Friday Night, Gavin.
- 43:41Speaker 4: McKennon, the probably probable number one or two guy who'll
- 43:45Speaker 4: be picked in this year's an Ahl Drift place for Penn State.
- 43:48Speaker 3: Had eight points in the game, and uh.
- 43:52Speaker 4: So we now, you know, we now look at college
- 43:55Speaker 4: hockey more so than we did in the past, and.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Uh well we do app here because Quinnipiac always is
- 44:02Speaker 1: a force in college.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Always a force. Yes, that is, that is the best sport. Yeah, hockey,
- 44:09Speaker 4: quinn a pack and hockey's cooling America again.
- 44:15Speaker 7: Yeah, cool, Happy Valley too.
- 44:17Speaker 6: I mean, Gavin McKenna putting that program really on the map,
- 44:21Speaker 6: and especially with all the headlines that he's faced over
- 44:24Speaker 6: the past month in Chaine.
- 44:26Speaker 2: I know, I was a kid that went to Boston
- 44:28Speaker 2: College guy.
- 44:29Speaker 6: After that outdoor game against Michigan State and then coming
- 44:32Speaker 6: back with an eight point game like nothing happened.
- 44:35Speaker 7: I mean.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Rennam State. I don't know where that finny comes. But
- 44:41Speaker 2: Ryan loves Petton State, so he's that's up his alley.
- 44:44Speaker 6: So yeah, big happy Valley guy. I have got family
- 44:47Speaker 6: that goes to Penn State. And that's pretty much all
- 44:50Speaker 6: we've been talking about because the football program there really
- 44:54Speaker 6: has been a lot that exciting to talk about.
- 44:57Speaker 7: All the exciting stuff has been on the on the
- 45:00Speaker 7: on the ice in the.
- 45:01Speaker 5: And then there was a kid that went to Boston College.
- 45:04Speaker 5: There was a kid that went to Boston College, a
- 45:06Speaker 5: lot of or Boston University one on playing in the
- 45:09Speaker 5: NHL right now, and forget who at WS but he
- 45:11Speaker 5: had a big fan following too from his college days.
- 45:13Speaker 4: So, Ryan, I think Penn State football is going to
- 45:18Speaker 4: turn around.
- 45:19Speaker 3: I think coach Campbell was the right pick.
- 45:22Speaker 7: I hope so.
- 45:23Speaker 6: And I mean bringing in Rocko back from the transfer portal,
- 45:25Speaker 6: I mean I've got a lot of faith in him.
- 45:27Speaker 7: So yeah, there you go, son of some of the
- 45:31Speaker 7: son of the.
- 45:31Speaker 6: Former Jets height end and he's still in the radio
- 45:34Speaker 6: booth right now.
- 45:35Speaker 7: So I've got a lot of faith there. Although you know,
- 45:38Speaker 7: to talk about Penn State football for just a.
- 45:40Speaker 6: Quick second here, I do think letting Grunklemeyer go through
- 45:45Speaker 6: the transfer portal, letting him leave for James Franklin's new
- 45:49Speaker 6: crew in Virginia Tech, I think that will be that
- 45:52Speaker 6: could be a mistake, perhaps depending on how grunkle Meyer
- 45:55Speaker 6: performs at VT.
- 45:57Speaker 7: I've talked about it on my own podcast, and I was.
- 46:00Speaker 6: Just a little perplexed that why they let him go,
- 46:04Speaker 6: especially I thought he did a good.
- 46:06Speaker 5: Job after the injury along, I thought, yeah, by that
- 46:12Speaker 5: point it was a rough season for Penn say thrust
- 46:14Speaker 5: the way. All right, one more thing because I'm wanting
- 46:17Speaker 5: highands on the Angel Network.
- 46:18Speaker 2: The other thing I was.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Waiting for in this game, which we had the last time,
- 46:22Speaker 1: as you guys remember, was like an.
- 46:24Speaker 2: All out eight minute fight. But as the pluck job.
- 46:28Speaker 2: We didn't get that this time.
- 46:29Speaker 5: But but the usual suspects for Canada causing it, Mayhem,
- 46:34Speaker 5: marsh and Wilson. I mean, I was supposing it wasn't
- 46:37Speaker 5: as physical. I thought it was gonna be a little
- 46:39Speaker 5: more fighting going on today.
- 46:40Speaker 4: Well, remember to drop your gloves in Olympic hockey, you're
- 46:43Speaker 4: out in the game. You know, fighting is not allowed
- 46:46Speaker 4: in the Olympic hockey. That was the big difference between
- 46:49Speaker 4: Four Nations and this and Olympic hockey. The other big
- 46:53Speaker 4: thing is for over time, four Nations had five on five.
- 46:57Speaker 3: This is three on three.
- 46:59Speaker 4: I thought, I thought Tom Wilson, and I know he
- 47:01Speaker 4: stepped over the line over the years. He's a tremendous
- 47:04Speaker 4: hockey player. I would walk on broken glass if you
- 47:07Speaker 4: could play for the New York Islanders. I mean, the
- 47:11Speaker 4: guy's a thirty goal scorer. You know he's He's tremendous
- 47:17Speaker 4: and marshant. He's one of those guys you don't like
- 47:19Speaker 4: him when he's not on your team, but when he's
- 47:21Speaker 4: on your team, you love him.
- 47:23Speaker 3: The guy's a winner exactly.
- 47:25Speaker 4: The Canadians had a lot of winners on their team
- 47:28Speaker 4: and that really worried me in the third period and overtime.
- 47:32Speaker 3: But thank god the United States prevailed.
- 47:35Speaker 6: He's the favorite tune with all the top heavy talent.
- 47:39Speaker 2: We honestly both won Cups.
- 47:41Speaker 5: We needed this because I do feel like the US
- 47:44Speaker 5: is not always on the world stage as far as athletics.
- 47:48Speaker 5: It's we used to be, but there's been a change.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Maybe this helps put us back on the map as
- 47:53Speaker 5: like on that world stage of athletics, of competition. I'd
- 47:56Speaker 5: love that to be the case.
- 47:57Speaker 7: That's what I I mean. You see the hoodie right here?
- 48:00Speaker 3: Beautiful you guys have you guys? I'm jealous.
- 48:04Speaker 4: I gotta I'm gonna dumb onlines and I can see
- 48:06Speaker 4: which one I want to buy and.
- 48:09Speaker 7: This one, by the way, to get off your link, Alex,
- 48:12Speaker 7: you did get.
- 48:12Speaker 5: It on my finax one damn by another fable to
- 48:15Speaker 5: plug here. I'm gonna put another one because I just
- 48:18Speaker 5: have beautiful gold metal, uh you know, commemorating a short
- 48:24Speaker 5: commandery in the gold medal. So I'm gonna put that
- 48:25Speaker 5: up there for sale on the Fanatics Crador link shortly,
- 48:28Speaker 5: but thanks for reminding me that ran there you go,
- 48:30Speaker 5: my Linco dropped below and thanks for being a low
- 48:33Speaker 5: friend and a customer as well.
- 48:34Speaker 2: It's a one leg go Alex. What can I tell you?
- 48:37Speaker 3: Hey?
- 48:37Speaker 4: Everybody, everybody, everybody like, like and subscribe to Alex to
- 48:42Speaker 4: Alex's podcast network.
- 48:43Speaker 2: All right, guys, any final thoughts because I don't want to.
- 48:47Speaker 5: I feel like we're gonna talking about this for days
- 48:49Speaker 5: and it's not gonna be a one day analysis. Well unpacked,
- 48:53Speaker 5: that's even on the next seminolars take this week because
- 48:55Speaker 5: there's more to talk about, I'm sure. But in the
- 48:58Speaker 5: initial reaction, any other thoughts before we close today.
- 49:03Speaker 3: I'll go first, Ryan.
- 49:04Speaker 4: I mean, the initial reaction is, how do these guys
- 49:07Speaker 4: clear their head to play the last twenty seven to
- 49:12Speaker 4: twenty eight games in the NHL battling for a playoff spot,
- 49:15Speaker 4: batting for a playoff position. How do they how do
- 49:18Speaker 4: they transition back into an NHL rat race. That to me,
- 49:24Speaker 4: that's that's uh, that's one of the most interesting things
- 49:28Speaker 4: to see as we move forward in a stretch run here.
- 49:31Speaker 7: Oh for sure.
- 49:32Speaker 6: And I mean it would probably be a much different
- 49:35Speaker 6: story if these guys were coming from.
- 49:37Speaker 7: Say Salt Lake City or something like that.
- 49:40Speaker 6: But they're coming all the way from Milan, six hour
- 49:42Speaker 6: time difference here on the East Coast.
- 49:45Speaker 7: I mean, they got a lot to get used to.
- 49:47Speaker 6: But what I'm going to be looking forward to as
- 49:49Speaker 6: the NHL resumes on Wednesday, lou is one how these
- 49:53Speaker 6: guys are going to adapt, but also for TEAMUS day,
- 49:57Speaker 6: they now know what it takes.
- 49:59Speaker 7: To win the biggest stage.
- 50:01Speaker 6: So has me wondering, especially with the playoffs creeping up
- 50:06Speaker 6: and all that, how can they use that experience to
- 50:09Speaker 6: get their own teams to the top of the mountain
- 50:13Speaker 6: in the National Hockey League and win Lord Stanley's Cup.
- 50:17Speaker 6: I'm curious how that is going to translate to a
- 50:20Speaker 6: lot of these teams fighting in these playoff pushes and
- 50:24Speaker 6: these guys gaining newfound experience from winning the gold medal,
- 50:29Speaker 6: and I would just love to see that be translated
- 50:32Speaker 6: on the NHL level year.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Oh, I agree, I'm looking forward to it, you.
- 50:38Speaker 6: Know, whether it's the Islanders or even another team, that's
- 50:44Speaker 6: something I'm looking forward to for sure, because even outside
- 50:46Speaker 6: of my slight Islanders bias, yes, I can truly truly.
- 50:52Speaker 7: Appreciate when talent is not wasted across the entire league.
- 50:57Speaker 6: And that's something that I really really want to be.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Yeah. No, good point, absolutely well.
- 51:06Speaker 1: My takeaway on the One Leg Up Network is that finally,
- 51:11Speaker 1: in my lifetime and Ruyn's lifetime, we do see the
- 51:15Speaker 1: US have one leg up in hockey.
- 51:16Speaker 5: I miss my dad right now. I know he would
- 51:18Speaker 5: have loved this. I miss Larry Brooks guys. I know
- 51:21Speaker 5: he would have loved this. Molly Walker talked about him
- 51:23Speaker 5: earlier today, and I want to give a shout out
- 51:25Speaker 5: to all those covering and fruits back Molly Walker, Kenny
- 51:28Speaker 5: Albert on the Call, our friend Eddie Oldcheck, I mean,
- 51:32Speaker 5: all these guys, and I think about how cool it
- 51:34Speaker 5: is to be for Matt Lacklin the call, Jack Hughes
- 51:36Speaker 5: now the rest of the season. So a lot of
- 51:38Speaker 5: our media people involved with this and my other messages,
- 51:43Speaker 5: I do hope as someone who learned the names of
- 51:46Speaker 5: all these guys and hockey at three years old, that
- 51:49Speaker 5: this inspires generations after two, yes, get involved in hockey.
- 51:52Speaker 5: It's a great sport and it needs to be kept
- 51:55Speaker 5: alive for many years to come, and hopefully this helps
- 51:57Speaker 5: to it.
- 51:57Speaker 2: So that's my.
- 52:00Speaker 8: We go.
- 52:00Speaker 4: One last thing, I got to give the New York
- 52:02Speaker 4: Post a lot of credit. In an era way newspapers
- 52:06Speaker 4: are closing down. It's not like the sports sections that
- 52:09Speaker 4: we grew up with, or at least I grew up
- 52:11Speaker 4: with the New York Posts. And both of the beat Riders,
- 52:14Speaker 4: Molly Walker and Ethan Sears to cover the hockey tournament
- 52:19Speaker 4: and they did a great job. And kudos to the
- 52:21Speaker 4: New York Post for doing that, for sending them on
- 52:23Speaker 4: site to Milan. That doesn't happen anymore in uh, you know,
- 52:28Speaker 4: in twenty twenty six, So that that was a good
- 52:31Speaker 4: job by the New York Post.
- 52:32Speaker 5: So that Kenny and Brendan burkean to talk about announcing
- 52:37Speaker 5: these games too, because that was pretty cool.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it was, oh yeah. So that's my final take.
- 52:43Speaker 5: We had a New York field, We literally had a
- 52:46Speaker 5: New York tri State field this whole Olympics, and I
- 52:48Speaker 5: love that feeling.
- 52:49Speaker 7: So you just gotta love it.
- 52:51Speaker 6: And you know, with the posts and all that, all
- 52:54Speaker 6: their great coverage of the Olympics in Milan, I'd be
- 52:58Speaker 6: very remiss.
- 52:59Speaker 7: I'll talk about this as well. This would not have
- 53:02Speaker 7: happened if not for Brooksy, Alex.
- 53:04Speaker 6: It would not have happened if not for Brooksley's advocacy
- 53:08Speaker 6: to not just have the Post feature Rangers coverage. Yes,
- 53:12Speaker 6: but he was the main one banging the drum for
- 53:15Speaker 6: the Islanders to be covered in the New York Post regularly,
- 53:18Speaker 6: and that's exactly why you got years covering the team regularly.
- 53:22Speaker 7: To this day.
- 53:23Speaker 6: He does a great job on the aisle speed and
- 53:25Speaker 6: even with Brooksley moving on to the grade above, you
- 53:28Speaker 6: know Molly Walker filling brooks the shoes perfectly. So just remember,
- 53:34Speaker 6: none of this happens if not for Brookly's legacy and
- 53:38Speaker 6: for what he was able to do at the post
- 53:40Speaker 6: with the Rangers speed.
- 53:40Speaker 5: And out fitting the man you promoted all the time
- 53:43Speaker 5: in his columns.
- 53:44Speaker 2: I remember when I was a kid reading it.
- 53:47Speaker 6: J T.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Miller gets the gold and I'm sure he's he's saying
- 53:50Speaker 1: about Brooksy and as he gets that goal, because I mean,
- 53:53Speaker 1: you talk about a proponent.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Of j T.
- 53:54Speaker 5: Miller, it was Larry Brooks, Like they're synonymous in that way.
- 53:59Speaker 3: Well, j other has to.
- 54:00Speaker 4: Start playing much better for the New York Rangers. He
- 54:02Speaker 4: can't be he was a pentalthy killer on the United
- 54:04Speaker 4: States team. He's got to be a first line guy
- 54:07Speaker 4: with the Rangers, and he's got to stop playing better.
- 54:10Speaker 4: Uh maybe not the rest of this year, who cares,
- 54:12Speaker 4: and not going to make the players, but they still
- 54:14Speaker 4: have watch four or five years left on that contract,
- 54:16Speaker 4: so we have to play like a top line center. Uh,
- 54:19Speaker 4: to take up Getting back to Brooks and then then
- 54:21Speaker 4: we're done. Larry Brooks knows these three three organizations so well.
- 54:27Speaker 4: He covered He covered the dynastic Islanders. He was a Ranger,
- 54:32Speaker 4: beat rider. He's a hockey commist. He worked for the
- 54:34Speaker 4: Devils for ten twelve years as their vice president of communications.
- 54:38Speaker 3: So there and you had.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Run into him a couple of times.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Well, the officers were right next to each other, and
- 54:43Speaker 3: he was you know, he was. He was a nice guy.
- 54:45Speaker 4: And uh, dell that there's no more hockey columnists right now.
- 54:51Speaker 3: He was the last one. He was the last of
- 54:53Speaker 3: that breathe.
- 54:54Speaker 5: Well, Mike Carroll, Fellowshers because he seems to be interested
- 54:56Speaker 5: in hockey too. But I'll tell you what we get
- 54:59Speaker 5: Molly on the talk about her coverag as well. May
- 55:01Speaker 5: all email her and say, hey, come on the show
- 55:03Speaker 5: with us. That would be great, all right, lou Terminela,
- 55:05Speaker 5: Ryan Pagano.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Instant reaction a few hours later, but instant reaction to.
- 55:11Speaker 2: This gold medal day. They set the gold standard. As
- 55:14Speaker 2: I said yesterday, Louis.
- 55:16Speaker 3: They did God bless America.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Bless America on the one play Free Bird.
- 55:22Speaker 5: That's right, Yes, you are right, Ryan, all right, Alex Karett,
- 55:27Speaker 5: lou Terminello, Ryan Pagano, Terminiello's take.
- 55:30Speaker 2: Thanks guys, A Gold Medal Edition
