Transcript
- 0:09Welcome to Unmasked, where we take off the filters and get
- 0:11real about faith, failure, and finding freedom.
- 0:14I'm your host, Wesley Farnsworth, a dad, veteran,
- 0:17author, and a man who's learned that God does his best work in
- 0:21the middle of our mess. Each episode will have honest
- 0:23conversations with people who've walked through addiction, pain,
- 0:26or doubt, and with pastors, leaders, and everyday believers
- 0:30who are learning to live and lead authentically.
- 0:33So take a breath, pull up a chair, and let's get real.
- 0:36This is Unmasked. Today's guest is someone whose
- 0:45life is marked with by decades of faith, spirit LED obedience,
- 0:49and a front row seat to the miraculous.
- 0:51Brian Easterling has spent over 40 years traveling the world,
- 0:54ministering across continents, and witnessing God move in ways
- 0:58that most of us have only read about.
- 1:00He's a speaker, author, and storyteller whose experiences
- 1:03carry both depth and humility. His new book series, Curious
- 1:07Tales of a Common Man, dives into perfect stories, moments of
- 1:10faith, challenge, and God's unmistakable fingerprints, told
- 1:14with the kind of honesty that reminds us that God uses
- 1:17ordinary people in extraordinary ways.
- 1:20And what I love about Byron is a historians don't point back to
- 1:23him. They all point back to Jesus.
- 1:25They point back to the grace, to the power, and to the quiet ways
- 1:29that God shows up when we're listening.
- 1:31So wherever you're joining from today, take a breath and lean in
- 1:35and get ready for a conversation that I'm sure will stir your
- 1:38faith and challenge you to look for God in your own everyday
- 1:41moments. Let's join it.
- 1:42Let's jump in. Byron, welcome to the show.
- 1:45Hi, Wesley. Thanks for having me.
- 1:47Really appreciate it. Absolutely.
- 1:49It's a pleasure to have you with us today here on Unmasked.
- 1:51So why don't you just jump in and share with the listeners
- 1:55where you come from and kind of your your back story so that we
- 1:59can get an idea of where you're at now.
- 2:01Yeah, absolutely. Well, I I'm AI grew up a Midwest
- 2:05kid was born and raised outside of Chicago, IL in a town called
- 2:09Joliet and I I we moved to Missouri and I had a fabulous.
- 2:15I have to say I'm I'm one of those amazingly lucky blessed
- 2:19people that I come from generations of believers.
- 2:23I have 20. There were 29 of us as cousins.
- 2:26We've lost a couple cents, but as we're getting older, but all
- 2:32of us have known the Lord and our families have known the Lord
- 2:35and our history is it's such a blessing.
- 2:40But the cool thing about it is every person has to come to
- 2:44Christ themselves, right? It's a, it's a personal journey.
- 2:47And mine was with my dad. My dad really helped get me
- 2:51there. So when I was about I was 9 and
- 2:54that's when I first started really kind of going after the
- 2:59Lord and really discovering that he was he was real and he was
- 3:04legit. And you know, so it took about a
- 3:08year for my dad and I to walk through just really discovery.
- 3:13And it was that moment. I remember, if I can tell this
- 3:16story when I first what happened was, is my excuse me.
- 3:20We were in a Baptist Church in our small town of Mexico, MO, my
- 3:25friend, you know, in a Baptist Church at that point, I don't
- 3:28know what it's like now, but at that point, if you got to be 8
- 3:31or 9 years old and you hadn't gone forward, you, you were kind
- 3:35of in trouble with the older folks.
- 3:36They might start thinking you were truly lost and and weren't
- 3:41anyway. So a good friend of mine, he one
- 3:45morning he, I see him, he goes down the aisle during the altar.
- 3:48So I, I thought, well, hey, he's going forward and I should go
- 3:52forward too. So I started to get up and my
- 3:55dad grabbed my pant leg and just kind of gently pulled me back
- 4:00down and leaned over and says, where are you going?
- 4:02And I said, well, I'm going to get Jesus.
- 4:05And he goes, really? Why?
- 4:08And I said, well, and this is where I made my first mistake.
- 4:11I said because my friend is. And he said, no, that's not why
- 4:16we go forward. And the cool thing is I have an
- 4:19older brother and older sister. I'm the youngest.
- 4:21My brother's almost eight years older than I and my sister's
- 4:24four years older. So we would come home back in
- 4:26those days, you would come home and you have this big potluck
- 4:29pot roast. They call him pot roast or a big
- 4:32chicken mid dinner. You know, it's always just
- 4:34amazing. You'd sit around and my dad
- 4:37would ask us what the sermon was about.
- 4:39And my brother would always go first and then my sister and
- 4:43then I would at 8-9 years old, I would parrot what they had to
- 4:47say. You know, I, I didn't know.
- 4:50I wasn't listening most of the time.
- 4:52I wasn't listening. I was fidgeting, you know.
- 4:57Well, that day my dad started with me and he turns to me.
- 5:01He says, Byron, he said, what did you get out of the sermon
- 5:04today? And I was scrambling, man.
- 5:07And I said, I don't know. But then I realized that this
- 5:11continued and he began to walk me through the gospel.
- 5:14And I have to say, what an amazing time almost a year to
- 5:18the day later, a year later, you know, it's that it's that
- 5:21powerful moment. I don't care what age you are,
- 5:24but my dad, they were having the altar call and my dad, I'm just
- 5:28sitting there being myself and my dad leads over and he goes,
- 5:32what are you waiting for? And I'm looked at him and he
- 5:36says, aren't you ready? And I was like, yes.
- 5:39And I just jumped out of that, that Pew and I ran forward.
- 5:43I'd ran forward and I just just, it was so I was so ready by that
- 5:49time. And that set me on a path till
- 5:51about I was 12 years oldish. And then I sort of started
- 5:56realizing there was other things in the world that I could
- 6:01pursue. And I pursued them for about 10
- 6:03years. And had I became what I call a
- 6:09street pharmacist during my college days, I fortunately was
- 6:14able to flee that. And that's a story in itself.
- 6:17And that's when I was in St. Louis, MO, and I was a college
- 6:21student at Webster University studying music.
- 6:24I was a musician. And again, there's so many
- 6:27stories of your life and how I came back to Christ.
- 6:31That was I was right. I don't know how much you want
- 6:34out of all that. Yeah.
- 6:35Well. Let's talk a little bit about
- 6:37those, if you're willing, because this show is all about
- 6:38helping people realize that they're not defined by their
- 6:41past, even if it was things that they did in their rebellious,
- 6:44rebellious years. So, yeah, talk to us about those
- 6:4710 years that you were away from Christ, so to speak.
- 6:51Like what kind of journey did you go through?
- 6:53And then ultimately, what was it that led you back to Christ?
- 6:57Yeah, you know what led me back? Excuse me?
- 7:01I was. It started when I was 12 and we
- 7:06were in that same Baptist Church and I was a Sunday evening and
- 7:10they used to have speakers come in and there was a favorite
- 7:13speaker. I, I love this guy.
- 7:15He was so solid in the word and even at 12, you know, 10/11/12,
- 7:21I, I just loved how he presented God and his love for God.
- 7:27And I followed it. And then this Sunday evening at
- 7:32this, our evening service, he's speaking and he stops and he
- 7:36says he makes a call for people to give their lives to serve God
- 7:42in the ministry. You know, like these young
- 7:45couples were going forward. And I kept hearing in my spirit,
- 7:48go forward, go up there and I'm 12.
- 7:51I mean, I literally can feel my hands grabbing a hold of that
- 7:56Pew and grabbing tighter and going, I'll just be a fool.
- 8:00Everybody will laugh at me. God, this is silly.
- 8:03I'm not doing this. And he kept calling, There's one
- 8:05more. I know there's one more.
- 8:07And and he'd even look over, of course, he would look over my
- 8:09direction and it would just penetrate my soul.
- 8:12I don't know if he knew that or not.
- 8:14But what I do notice, it was penetrating my spirit, my soul.
- 8:18And I just kept going, no, no, no, I can't do this.
- 8:21These are these are real people. I'm just a kid, you know, and
- 8:25that's when it I turned, I turned my back on God.
- 8:28I said no to him. And in what I might consider a
- 8:31big way, I rebelled against the heart of God for my life.
- 8:35You know, from that moment I began to falter.
- 8:40I began to seek out other ways of feeling finding as you go
- 8:45into high school and I got into minor drugs.
- 8:48I didn't get into any real serious drugs.
- 8:51I didn't get into anything such as heroin or anything like that.
- 8:56I got into a lot of laced which carried a lot of hallucinogens
- 9:00in it. But I think what really started
- 9:02me was in my, my college days, there was a man from Kansas City
- 9:08who was a well known drug dealer and I got connected to that
- 9:12person and I, I ended up selling in my region of Missouri for
- 9:18several years. I had my clientele.
- 9:20I was making a lot of money, you know, cars, motorcycles,
- 9:24whatever I wanted, it was, it was mine.
- 9:26You make a lot of money when you sell drugs and I, you know, I'm
- 9:32sorry. So at one point God brought me
- 9:35out of that. And that's, you know, I won't go
- 9:37into that story, but what I will go into is that the heartbreak
- 9:41when I came out of that season and I came back into Christ, the
- 9:44heartbreak of damaging someone's life, that I damaged people's
- 9:50lives and I brought them into a way of life that was not in
- 9:54God's path for them. Just broke.
- 9:57It still does. I, I still look back and I, I'm
- 10:00not saying he has forgiven me. I know he's forgiven me.
- 10:03That's not an issue. But to know that you've damaged
- 10:06someones life, that was. Yeah.
- 10:08That's exactly what this show is all about, Sir.
- 10:10You know, this show is all about on being unmasked.
- 10:13And a lot of people, they, they sit there and they're like,
- 10:17well, I have done this and I have done that in my life.
- 10:21I've dealt drugs, I've been addicted to pornography, I've
- 10:23cheated on my wife. I've had the food issue.
- 10:26I have whatever it might be. They have something in their
- 10:29life that is they're choosing to let define them.
- 10:32And this show is all about being unmasked and coming forward and
- 10:35telling those stories and helping them realize that they
- 10:38are not defined by whatever it is that they've done and that
- 10:42God still can and will use them if they allow him.
- 10:46And so I love that you're coming on and you're being vulnerable
- 10:51and you're sharing this story about what you've done in the
- 10:54end, the your, your history of dealing drugs and stuff like
- 10:57that. Because I think that's a very
- 10:59real thing that most people would say, well, I've, you know,
- 11:02this is something really bad that I've done.
- 11:04So there's no hope for me. I'm too far gone.
- 11:07And that's exactly what the enemy wants them to hear.
- 11:10They want them to think and know that they're too far gone
- 11:14because if they think that and he can get get it to the where
- 11:16they know that, then he has them right where you want them.
- 11:19And so I thank you for your vulnerability and your
- 11:22willingness to share that. So tell us about your journey
- 11:25back to Christ. What was it that kind of was
- 11:27that turning point that he said, Hey, you know, I'm still here.
- 11:31And what, what, what, what brought you back?
- 11:34So, yeah, what brought me back is I had to flee where I was.
- 11:40That guy was, you know, it's territorial.
- 11:43So that guy was in Kansas City. He was a, he's a mean guy.
- 11:49So I, I thought I wanted out. I, I knew I wanted out.
- 11:54I knew that something wasn't right.
- 11:56And I, so I fled and I went to Saint Louis on the other side of
- 12:01the state where I knew I would be safe.
- 12:04I'd be in, in a sense in hiding. And so I, I go to Saint Louis
- 12:08and I end up going back to college to Webster University.
- 12:11I'm studying music now. I don't know if you know music
- 12:13or not, or music schools, but in music schools that the cool
- 12:17thing about that is at the end of the year, I'm a piano player.
- 12:21I'm a composer and pianist and I've written a lot of stuff,
- 12:24different things, but anyway, doesn't matter.
- 12:26But the key is at the end of the year, there's a thing called
- 12:29juries. And that's where your teachers,
- 12:32your professors come around you. And you're like in this little
- 12:34tiny room with a piano, and you're playing the pieces that
- 12:38you've learned all year. And they're sitting behind you
- 12:42just scribbling. All you hear scribbling.
- 12:45And you're like, I failed. I know I failed.
- 12:48And they don't really say anything.
- 12:49And you get up and they say thank you very much and you
- 12:51leave. Well, it's a party day after
- 12:54that and I was, we were just partying and I was, I didn't
- 12:58supply anymore, but I still was partaking of vegetation and we
- 13:03had partaken. I had this old, I was broke,
- 13:05man, when I gave it up, I was broke.
- 13:08I had an old 65 Econoline van and man, it was ugly.
- 13:14I was driving away from school and I was going home to my
- 13:17little apartment and I had a just partaken.
- 13:21OK, so it's like May. The windows were up.
- 13:24It was Midwest, so it wasn't real warm and it wasn't cool.
- 13:27So I had the windows up. I had AI had a bag of vegetation
- 13:30sitting on the seat next to me. And I hear it.
- 13:33I hear the cops, they pull me over.
- 13:35I'm like, man, I am going, I'm going to prison and I'm not
- 13:40going to do well. You know, this isn't going to be
- 13:42good for me. And I didn't have the
- 13:44wherewithal to roll down the window before, take the bag and
- 13:48throw it in the back. None of that.
- 13:50He just walks up, knocks on my, knocks on my window.
- 13:53I roll it down. He had to get billowed in his
- 13:56face, you know, And he and he goes, he says mystery swing.
- 14:01I said yes, Sir. He said, do you know your
- 14:03license plates are due tomorrow? And I said, yes, Sir, I do.
- 14:07In fact, I'm going home to take care of that.
- 14:10And he says, that's good. And he says, here's my
- 14:12suggestion. I suggest you go home now, to
- 14:15your apartment. And you stayed there for the
- 14:19rest of the night. And I was like, yes, Sir, I
- 14:22will. Sure will.
- 14:23And I drove straight home. So the next day I get up.
- 14:26We lived about an hour and a half outside of Saint Louis in
- 14:30this town called Mexico, MO. You had to go back at that
- 14:33point. You had to go back to get to
- 14:35your county to get your plates renewed.
- 14:38I can take you to the corner, to the spot in the road.
- 14:42I can take you there. I go there regularly in my mind.
- 14:45And I pulled over on the side of the road.
- 14:48I just felt and I heard the Lord in my spirit say, when are you
- 14:52going to stop messing around with me?
- 14:54That's all it took. And it was like, and I said,
- 14:57Lord, I don't want to mess around with you.
- 15:00I need you badly. And that just everything changed
- 15:05and it was a moment in time. That's all it took a moment in
- 15:08time. I, I don't know that it was an
- 15:10audible voice. I'm not saying that.
- 15:12I, I think it was just something in my spirit.
- 15:14You know how God speaks to us and we just know that we know.
- 15:18And I just heard When are you going to stop messing around
- 15:21with me? And it was so unshaming.
- 15:24It was so real, authentic, true. It was so beautiful almost.
- 15:28It was just, hey, when are you going to stop messing around
- 15:31with me? And that changed my life.
- 15:34That just. I said now I'm going to stop
- 15:36now. And I did.
- 15:38And. Yeah.
- 15:39And within within three months, I was a youth pastor at a
- 15:43church. Yeah.
- 15:45In a month and a half, I had sold my van and I was in
- 15:48Guatemala on a missions trip. Yeah.
- 15:51Wow. Yeah.
- 15:54She said three months to become a youth pastor at a church.
- 15:57How, what, what did that journey look like?
- 15:59Because that's, I mean, most people now they think of, you
- 16:02know, a youth pastor and you have to go to church and get
- 16:04your credentialing and this whole interview process and
- 16:07everything. And it's, it can be a long drawn
- 16:10out process to get a staff position in any church, let
- 16:13alone a youth pastor where you're dealing with kids and you
- 16:16know, somebody with your background.
- 16:17So how did that come about? Like fill us in.
- 16:19Like I'm curious. Yeah, well, excuse me, music.
- 16:23I wanted to do a course. I lived down near a place called
- 16:27Washington University and there was a big Presbyterian Church,
- 16:31big one of those Gothic cathedral style Presbyterian
- 16:34churches that was right near Washington University called
- 16:37Memorial Presbyterian Church. And I would walk by it to go
- 16:40down and I would sometimes go and practice.
- 16:43And at Washington University, they let me come in and practice
- 16:47there because it was close by, closer than Webster.
- 16:50So I was walking by and I, I wanted to do this class, a music
- 16:55class for some students that were interested for during the
- 16:58summer. So I went in.
- 16:59I thought, well, this church, I never saw hardly any cars.
- 17:02There's a big church. I thought, well, they're not
- 17:04doing anything. I was such a jerk.
- 17:07I said, you know, I'll go in there and just see if they'll
- 17:10let me rent A room. So I go in and this this
- 17:12secretary goes, yeah, let me, let me.
- 17:14We get the pastor and pastor comes out.
- 17:16He's in his mid 60s named George Scotchmer.
- 17:20He says, yeah, come on in. I still had a cigarettes in my
- 17:24pocket. He says he, you know, he talks
- 17:26to me for a while. He asked me a few questions and
- 17:29about what I wanted to do. And he says, well, he says, do
- 17:33you want to smoke? And I sit in in a church.
- 17:35I said, what, what do you mean? He says, well, you know, he, he,
- 17:38he baited me and he said, well, you know, the scriptures never
- 17:42say anything about smoking. It just says that your body is a
- 17:45temple into the holy. He got me.
- 17:48I literally went home that day and I hadn't read my Bible for I
- 17:55mean, this was right after. So this was May when I made that
- 17:59corner and the Lord asked me that question, right.
- 18:02When are you going to stop messing her with me around with
- 18:04me? And, and this is like late May,
- 18:07early June. So this is right after that
- 18:09time, I still hadn't picked up my Bible yet.
- 18:12I just made a commitment to turn my life around.
- 18:15I didn't know how to do it. And so I pull my Bible out, kind
- 18:19of blow off the dust and start. I just I spent we didn't, you
- 18:23know, we didn't, I didn't have any, you know, reference books.
- 18:27I of course, we didn't have Google or access to any AI.
- 18:31We were just, you know, there. I would just I was reading
- 18:34through trying to find this passage about, you know, the
- 18:39body is a temple. Your body is a temple into the
- 18:42Lord. I'm like, I couldn't, I just
- 18:43couldn't find it. So he told me to come back the
- 18:46following week. I come back and I said, first of
- 18:48all, where is that passage? I got to know where that passage
- 18:51is. Well, then he just starts
- 18:52talking to me about the Lord and all this stuff.
- 18:55And he says, listen, he had asked me about what I did and I
- 18:59actually had also painted houses for a living.
- 19:02And so he said, hey, you know, I talked to the board and they'd
- 19:06be willing to rent you a room. But he said, here's the deal, We
- 19:10take a missions trip to Guatemala every summer.
- 19:13And he said we need a crew director for to paint a clinic
- 19:19down there. And he said, would you go, we'll
- 19:21pay your way. Would you go and be the clinic
- 19:24with the crew director? And I was like, I'm thinking,
- 19:27cool, Guatemala. Yeah, sure, I'll do that.
- 19:30That sounds like fun. And that's so I got on a bus.
- 19:34Now here's I had still had cigarettes in my pocket.
- 19:37I get, I start to walk on the bus with 20, I think it was 29
- 19:41other solid high school and college students.
- 19:45And I start to step on the bus and Doctor Scotchmer, he goes,
- 19:49oh, I'm sorry, Myron, you can't smoke on this trip.
- 19:52And I mean, I went cold Turkey and I know everybody on that bus
- 19:56was praying for me because I'm sure Doctor Scotchmert said,
- 19:59listen, we got a live 1 here and that then I went for the summer,
- 20:05did this trip and. He came back and he said,
- 20:08listen, I've talked to the board about you.
- 20:11You handled yourself so well down there.
- 20:13I would love for you to, to consider being our youth pastor.
- 20:16And so I, I, I did, I took it and never, never really looked
- 20:23back, never went back to. I can just imagine your mindset
- 20:27like in that at that point in time and you're like, youth
- 20:30pastor what? Yeah, it was.
- 20:33I don't even know what that is. You know, I, I'd never been a
- 20:36part of a youth group. I mean Sunday school.
- 20:39Yeah. But yeah.
- 20:42So you went from drug dealer one day to three months later being
- 20:47a youth pastor and now you have more than 4 decades ministering
- 20:51around the world. That is just quite the journey.
- 20:55Can you take us back to maybe 1 moment early on when you clearly
- 20:59know that this is God and He's leading me and this is exactly
- 21:02what I'm being called to do? Well, clearly being called is a
- 21:06great question started for me. It started for me as a youth
- 21:10pastor and it was actually the pastor's wife who I asked her
- 21:16that question. I asked, well both of them, I
- 21:18asked that question. I said what?
- 21:20How do you know that you're called to ministry?
- 21:24And her response was so simple. And she said, go do whatever
- 21:29else you can. And if you can't, you're
- 21:31probably called to ministry. And we have actually used that.
- 21:36My wife and I have used that many times when people have
- 21:40asked us, how do we know that it's time for us to go into
- 21:43ministry as a vocation? And we're like, well, you'll
- 21:46know because it'll be nothing else.
- 21:49You can do it. You know, I always look at it
- 21:51like marriage. How many times have you heard
- 21:53somebody say, how do I know he's the one or she's the one?
- 21:57How many times have I had that in my life?
- 21:59How my daughter once said, how, Dad, how will I know how I know?
- 22:04You just know that you know that, you know, you can do all
- 22:07the pros and cons lists in the world.
- 22:10But when she said to me, that pastor's wife, Doctor
- 22:13Scotchmer's wife, when she said go do anything else you can.
- 22:17And if you can't, you're probably called the ministry
- 22:20just knew that I knew that it was something I had to do.
- 22:23I fought it. I fought it through the years.
- 22:25I don't. I can't say that I've been the
- 22:28most obedient of children. Oh, that's the beautiful thing
- 22:32about faith is you don't have to be the perfect child.
- 22:34He still loves you and will use you.
- 22:36And I think that's, that's a common misconception in, in the
- 22:40churches. People are like, well, I have to
- 22:43be perfect if I'm going to do this.
- 22:45And if I can't be perfect, then I might as well just not do it
- 22:47at all. And that's the furthest thing
- 22:49from the truth. He wants you just, he wants you
- 22:52and his calling you just as you are and fault, fault and all, he
- 22:56wants you. And so, yeah, I love that.
- 22:59So, you know, ministry across continents, that's exciting
- 23:03work. You've traveled the world.
- 23:04You've done all kinds of things, but it's sacrificial and
- 23:08exhausting, and I'm sure it can be very, very humbling on a very
- 23:12deep level. So what has sustained your faith
- 23:15through the hard seasons when obedience didn't feel glamorous
- 23:20and you were in those seasons where you're like fighting and
- 23:23and why me? I couldn't, I couldn't go
- 23:27forward without saying Leslie, that my partner, my bride has
- 23:32been vital and key. She has been so strong and solid
- 23:37in my weakness and just to recall the victories, to help me
- 23:42recall the victories and help me recall why I'm doing what I'm
- 23:46doing because you know, it's true.
- 23:48I don't care what you're doing. You know how it is when you,
- 23:51you, you're doing something and there's something, there's a
- 23:55carrot that gets dangled in front of you and you want to go
- 23:59sideways and go chase that carrot.
- 24:01And God just holds your, holds your feet to the path that
- 24:07you're on. And then I think it requires
- 24:09those friendships, those relationships.
- 24:12I think for me, that's been a big part of it.
- 24:15Crystal, my wife, who amazingly would just be so simple in her
- 24:19responses and challenging at the same time.
- 24:22Like things like I would be complaining and she's got, well,
- 24:26isn't this what God has said? Oh, and all of a sudden you're
- 24:29like, oh, yeah, I guess you're right.
- 24:31You know, I didn't want to hear that at the moment.
- 24:33I wanted to complain. She would just bring up this.
- 24:37It's simple, but it's so profound.
- 24:39I other friends have just been that's so helpful in those
- 24:43moments where they remind me of your calling and your giftings
- 24:48and your purposes on earth. And whether or not that's it
- 24:52doesn't matter what it is. It's not about being in
- 24:55vocational quote UN quote ministry.
- 24:57I don't even like that term anymore because I see all of us
- 25:01as ministers, but some of us are called to go and be more
- 25:05actively pursuing the body of Christ and really, really
- 25:09encouraging and building up the body of Christ.
- 25:12I feel that's a big part of Our Calling.
- 25:14And I think the other side of that is when you make a covenant
- 25:19with the Lord, when he's made a covenant with you, to say I have
- 25:22called you into this, you have to bring that.
- 25:26And that's what Crystal would do.
- 25:27She'd bring that memory and that realization.
- 25:30Have you been called to this? Isn't this what the Lord said?
- 25:33Yeah. Therefore, now it's just a
- 25:36simple answer of I believe it or not, yes or no.
- 25:39And I love that you're bringing this up because this is
- 25:41something that I talk about quite often I hear on my podcast
- 25:44and when I even when I'm doing interviews, news on other
- 25:46podcasts as a guest. And and that's just the
- 25:49importance of community in our lives.
- 25:51You know, everyone you want to, you try and do it yourself.
- 25:55That's kind of human nature. This, you know, I can do this
- 25:57myself. I don't need somebody else's
- 25:59help. And God doesn't call us to do
- 26:02life alone. I mean, when you even look back
- 26:04to the very beginning with Adam, God said he's alone.
- 26:07This isn't good. And he gave him Eve, you know,
- 26:09he gave us community for a reason.
- 26:12And that's how we we kind of use those as checks and balances.
- 26:16If you want to use a modern day term when you think of
- 26:18government and all that fun stuff.
- 26:19But community is there for a reason.
- 26:21They help keep you in focus. They help push you forward.
- 26:25They help speak life into you when the enemy is trying to drag
- 26:28you down. And so I love that you have your
- 26:31wife in your corner to help keep you focused and to to remind you
- 26:35of your calling when you're going.
- 26:37I don't know what I'm doing. And the other point that you
- 26:39made that I want to just touch on is this idea of being called
- 26:43and the vocational assignment. There's a lot of times I just
- 26:47did a sermon, just preached A sermon a couple weeks ago about
- 26:50just giving God your yes, you know, it's very common today
- 26:53when people are like, well, I can't do this because I don't
- 26:57have training, I don't have this, I don't have that.
- 27:00And all you're really doing is making excuses for not doing
- 27:03what God's calling you to do and telling you to do.
- 27:05Because when it comes down to it, there's nowhere in the Bible
- 27:08that says you have to have a, a college degree to preach his
- 27:11gospel. OK, Jesus pulled random people
- 27:14off of the street and made them his 12 disciples and used them
- 27:18in extraordinary ways. He used Moses that was wandering
- 27:22a desert. You know, he, you look at all
- 27:24that you just look at the history of the Bible and not a
- 27:26single person that he used in the Bible had a college degree
- 27:29or a vocational degree. And so that's something I just,
- 27:33I love that you brought that up because I think that's a common
- 27:35thing that we are now letting us get, or it's a coming thing that
- 27:40we are allowing to get in our way of doing what it is that God
- 27:43is calling us to do. I think some of the greatest
- 27:46missionary outreaches have been from women who were not a part
- 27:51of an organization because they weren't allowed to be and they
- 27:54didn't have degrees. And so they just, I was once and
- 27:58they just said yes. And someone once asked me, how
- 28:01come you get to travel all over the world?
- 28:03Why don't I get to do that? They said, I said, I don't know.
- 28:05I just said yes. When the opportunity comes, just
- 28:08say yes. If it's God, you know, I didn't
- 28:11say yes when I was 12 and it took me 10 years.
- 28:15I'm not saying God didn't use those 10 years because I learned
- 28:18a lot about life. Maybe not the best side of life,
- 28:21but I learned what struggles happen with when, when you do
- 28:25the wrong thing, when you put people's lives behind your own.
- 28:28Anyway, I just think say yes. I I didn't say yes when I was
- 28:3212, and I did say it on that day in the van, turn in that corner
- 28:37on the way home. I did say yes.
- 28:39And my life has been incredibly different.
- 28:41And I've. Yeah.
- 28:43What would it gosh, sometimes I just think what would it be like
- 28:46and that you know, if you even think about the first little
- 28:49youth pastor position, if you want to look at it as little.
- 28:53I don't see it that way. I see it as just God opened the
- 28:56door and allowed me and I had a Presbyterian Church.
- 29:01That's a very I mean never it Wesley.
- 29:03I have never thought of that before.
- 29:05I don't think I have ever in my life thought why would they hire
- 29:09a non educated seminary educated person to Wow what?
- 29:16That's phenomenal. I just now thanks for bringing
- 29:21that up. That's totally a God thing and
- 29:23that's what I love. I just love how he he does the
- 29:25impossible and he makes it possible.
- 29:27And it's just, it's awesome to think about, you know, your new
- 29:30series, Curious Tales of a Common Man.
- 29:33It explores personal stories that reveal God's fingerprints
- 29:36in daily life. And that's what I love is you
- 29:40talk about how to see God in the everyday moments.
- 29:42Why do you think that God often chooses ordinary moments to
- 29:47reveal himself in extraordinary ways?
- 29:50I think the heart issue for me is that the Father wants us to
- 29:55know that he's there always and that in the midst of whatever
- 29:59we're doing, he is there and active and alive and and caring
- 30:05about who we are and what we do. And that what we consider
- 30:09mundane, he considers a joy. And I I think for me, it's in
- 30:16those moments when they're real. They're they're heartfelt,
- 30:20they're life giving moments and they make us look back and go,
- 30:25God is with me always, always. He's with me.
- 30:28And that's what he says he would be.
- 30:30And now he's proved himself that.
- 30:31And not that I need for him to prove himself, but I have to
- 30:35admit it helps. Yeah, it, it, it, it's, it's
- 30:38good to know that Dad is there with us.
- 30:41Why do you why do you think it's those sometimes those mundane
- 30:45moments that he chooses to, to make himself known to US versus,
- 30:49you know, I think most people when they are listening for God,
- 30:52they're waiting for this big, you know, tada moment where he
- 30:55just, he jumps out of a box or is that he's the, you know, the,
- 30:59the burning Bush or something like that.
- 31:00You know, where he speaks to us even in the mundane moments.
- 31:03Why do you think he does that? Yeah, well, I guess that's what
- 31:06I that's the only answer I really have.
- 31:08I think because he wants us to know that he's there in every
- 31:12aspect of our life in in all of the ways that we move and
- 31:16improve through life, is that he is there in that moment with us.
- 31:22And it's not it's in sometimes the most silent of places that
- 31:26we find him. And in those silent moments,
- 31:31he's he's, he's caring for us and he wants to be there with
- 31:36us. It's for me.
- 31:38I guess that's so I took a challenge.
- 31:40I was, I was always a very good golfer and I had several
- 31:43scholarships in university that I actually turned down to the
- 31:47chagrin of my father. There's a word you don't hear
- 31:50often. To the chagrin of my father, I
- 31:53turn these fellowship offers down to university to play golf.
- 31:57And I had several offers in my 20s to go and turn pro and I
- 32:00didn't. I just wanted to go into music
- 32:03and I think that was God's way. But I got challenged in my 50s,
- 32:08early 50s to take up and turn pro and go play golf
- 32:13professionally. And so I took a challenge and
- 32:15did that. And I did it for five years.
- 32:18And I remember the first year I was out and practicing and I had
- 32:22to change my life. I still was traveling, I was
- 32:25still doing ministry, and I had to change my lifestyle.
- 32:28It was very difficult, very hard time, but it's very cool.
- 32:32And I remember just this. For a golfer, this would be the
- 32:35mundane. I'm practicing, I'm practicing
- 32:38on the golf course hour after hour after hour.
- 32:41My, I'm getting my game strengthened.
- 32:44And this is in the first year. And I remember walking down the
- 32:47golf course, I'm in the middle of the hole this hole and I, I,
- 32:52I put my bag down and I sense God there with me, so much so
- 32:58that I put my bag down and I turned around and I said, what
- 33:03out loud? I said it out loud.
- 33:05So if anybody's watching me somewhere else on the golf
- 33:08cursor, probably they get Easter legs.
- 33:09Lost his mind. He's finally lost his mind.
- 33:13Well, all I heard in my spirit was, Hey, love doing this with
- 33:18you. And I said, you mean like
- 33:19playing tournaments and being, you know, a good golf races, not
- 33:23just out here practicing. I just love these moments.
- 33:27And I think it was so encouraging and so life giving
- 33:31to me. It was like, Dad, you're right.
- 33:33You love being in the middle of this golf course with me just
- 33:38hitting golf balls. Yeah, I, I love that.
- 33:41I love every aspect of being with you.
- 33:44And I think for me, that's the mundane.
- 33:46That's the place when we're at work and we're, you know, we're
- 33:49looking at that computer screen and God interjects in that
- 33:53moment just to say I'm with you. I'm, I'm there.
- 33:56Out of that comes all kinds of our faith is strengthened.
- 34:01We're encouraged to to meet with others, you know the community
- 34:05aspect of of both with the believer and those who we are.
- 34:09All of a sudden, you know you'll find yourself coming out of
- 34:11those moments and you're going I need to pray for so and so
- 34:15because they they, you know, they really need the Lord in
- 34:19this time. You know, anyway, that's that
- 34:22for me is the mundane is because he just loves being with us.
- 34:27Yeah, that's my take. I I'd love to hear yours on
- 34:30that. Yeah, that's a great story.
- 34:32Yeah. And I'm the same way, you know,
- 34:34I just, I can just drive it down the road, just having those
- 34:38quiet moments, you know, listening to the radio, singing
- 34:40Christian music, you know, and just having the time with God.
- 34:44I think people often think when they, when they think about just
- 34:47having the relationship, they, they think about the big
- 34:51moments, you know, they think about going to church, they
- 34:53think about dinnertime prayers. They think about, you know,
- 34:56those types of things that in our lives are the, the, we'll
- 34:59just call them the cornerstone moments that, you know, you
- 35:02know, you're supposed to pray, you're supposed to do these
- 35:04things. But then in the everyday moments
- 35:08is where he wants, still wants to be included, you know, And so
- 35:12I'm a golfer too. I love going.
- 35:14I don't get to don't get to go very often.
- 35:16Maybe once a year if I'm lucky. But I still call myself a
- 35:19golfer. Yeah, good.
- 35:22But. Yeah, even out on the golf
- 35:23course, just taking those times. And I love to just sing songs to
- 35:27myself, you know, just tell them and, and pray and meditate and
- 35:30just kind of have just the quiet time.
- 35:32And it's just a great way to to just soak it in and be in God's
- 35:36creation and, and just just connect and be with them.
- 35:40And so that's awesome. So for listening that are out
- 35:44there that maybe they're going through a dry season, you know,
- 35:47they're they're spiritually dry, they're discouraged.
- 35:50The enemies, you know, maybe talking to them, telling them
- 35:52that they're they can't do this because they're defined by
- 35:55something, you know, whatever it might be.
- 35:58How can they begin to recognize the small, subtle ways that God
- 36:03is speaking or moving in their life?
- 36:05Is God moving in their lives in these tough seasons?
- 36:08You know, I think the first thing is he wants us to come
- 36:11into in those moments, excuse me, in those moments, I always
- 36:15feel like the Lord is in that time frame making, wanting to
- 36:19make our ceiling, our floor. He's wanting us to rise into a
- 36:25new level of understanding and insight into who he is.
- 36:29That's the tough moments, right? The tough moments, the
- 36:31discouraging moments I believe are always there that are going
- 36:35to help us step into a new revelation of who God is because
- 36:39He's always moving right from glory to ever increasing glory.
- 36:43So I want to see some of that ever increasing glory and I know
- 36:47He wants us to draw near so we will see that and understand and
- 36:52get a bigger picture of who God is.
- 36:55So I think for me with that knowledge, knowing that first of
- 36:59all, it's accepting where you are, I think we fight it.
- 37:02I think we go, I need to get out of this.
- 37:04I want I'm not where I was. I need to be back where I was.
- 37:08I need to be, I need to be close with God.
- 37:10I need to be reading the Bible. I need to be praying more.
- 37:13Whatever it is you were doing in the last season, this moment to
- 37:18me is an ordained by God moment. He didn't maybe 'cause it, but
- 37:23he's allowing it so that you will come into a new revelation
- 37:27of who He is, a bigger image, a bigger picture, a bigger
- 37:31knowledge of who God is. So how I say it is, you're in
- 37:35this moment because you can't live tomorrow on yesterday's
- 37:38God. You can't get to where you need
- 37:41to go on what you. It's a building process.
- 37:45So he wants to release. So it comes to for me, when
- 37:49you're in those moments, I bet I'm not asking the right
- 37:52questions. So what we do is we ask the
- 37:54questions we ask in the last season of our life.
- 37:57But the reality is he's got new questions he wants you to ask.
- 38:02So the the first thing I do when I'm in that place and I'm
- 38:05finally coming out of that, or maybe this is for a reason and I
- 38:09have to go, all right, Lord, what am I asking that's not
- 38:12being answered? Give me the better question.
- 38:15Give me the question that will pull me and draw me into
- 38:20tomorrow, that that will draw me into the greater revelation of
- 38:24who you are and what you want me to see about yourself.
- 38:29That will give me the strength to stand in this moment.
- 38:32I think if we try to conquer fears, frustrations, all the
- 38:37issues that we deal with in our lives, the last thing, it will
- 38:41only get us so far and we'll be frustrated.
- 38:45And that's what happens. We get into that grind, right?
- 38:47We get into the grind and we get frustrated, we get angry at
- 38:50ourselves and then we get we get depressed and all the things
- 38:54that happen with us when that happens and we all of a sudden,
- 38:58you know, we have to turn, turn your eyes on Jesus and look full
- 39:04in his wonderful face. And it's true.
- 39:06It's such a simple message of a hymn, but so true.
- 39:10Turn your eyes on Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and
- 39:14it all of a sudden takes us into what is God wanting me to step
- 39:19into? And that's a beautiful moment
- 39:22because all of a sudden it's not about the issue.
- 39:25It's about oh, God's wanting something.
- 39:28That's a mundane moment. That's that's one of those
- 39:31moments in a sense it's like here is God.
- 39:33It's and for me, it's always I'm not asking the right question.
- 39:37I'm asking an old question that's not being answered, so I
- 39:41need to know, Lord, and I ask what?
- 39:45What is the question I need to ask you that will take me and
- 39:50show me more of who you are so that I know I can step beyond
- 39:54this moment. Yeah, into a that fuller
- 39:57revelation. So follow up to that would be,
- 40:00you know, a big part of being able to step into the calling
- 40:03that God has put on our lives is the aspect of forgiveness.
- 40:07You know, especially when you're dealing with something that
- 40:10you've done in the past, you know, in your life, you had of
- 40:14this history with drilling, drilling with dealing drugs for
- 40:18a short period of time. You, you talked about and you
- 40:21alluded to earlier, you knew that Jesus had forgiven you,
- 40:23that God had forgiven you, that Jesus died on the cross and, and
- 40:26washed all that away. But there's still that aspect of
- 40:29knowing that, but also still being able to forgive yourself
- 40:34for actually able to be able to start moving forward and
- 40:37allowing the lessons that you learned during that period to
- 40:40now be able to impact how you reach others and talk to others,
- 40:44which is I believe is a reason that you went through that
- 40:47season. So give the listeners some tips,
- 40:50if you will, on how they can go about forgiving themselves for
- 40:56something that the enemy doesn't want them to forgive themselves
- 41:00for. Yeah, he's such a jerk.
- 41:03He is. He's such a jerky.
- 41:06He'll just keep us bound in that doesn't he loves to keep us
- 41:09bound, kill, steal and destroy, right.
- 41:11But on the other side, what are some tips to help us?
- 41:15You know what, what are the things that I've done in my life
- 41:18again, is I, I think to realize where I am in the moment, to be
- 41:25truthful, to be honest with God. I, I think one of the biggest
- 41:28things that I see a lot of people struggle with is being
- 41:31honest with God where you are in the moment.
- 41:34I think the Psalms are a fabulous example of that because
- 41:39what David did was he would say God, I am such in a sense, I am
- 41:44such a failure. I'm a loser Lord.
- 41:47I mean, if you're really dig into the language of the Psalms,
- 41:50David and many of the Psalms that he wrote, he began with
- 41:54more of I'm in, I'm in trouble, I have issues, I have messed up.
- 41:59You know, I think what he's saying is God knows it.
- 42:03Why don't I just be honest with him and admit it?
- 42:06That's where I am. All of a sudden the enemy
- 42:09doesn't have that hold on you anymore because the truth has
- 42:12come forth when the truth sets you free and that truth to God,
- 42:17you're not speaking to the enemy.
- 42:19You're speaking to God and you're saying, Lord, I know I I
- 42:22am messed up and I and what would David do?
- 42:25I need you and the Psalms are classic examples to me of being
- 42:29able of tips to be able to move into and what did it lead to the
- 42:34celebration of his life in God in many different ways.
- 42:37So I think for me, what happened is at one point in my life I
- 42:42realized I'm trying to cover up the reality of my feelings.
- 42:47I'm trying. It's almost like I'm going to
- 42:49hide. Adam and Eve were hiding from
- 42:52God or going how it hit me one day, how can you hide from God?
- 42:57Excuse me? It's idiotic.
- 42:59And that's what I thought. I'm an idiot if I think that I
- 43:03can hide from God and I'm hiding my I'm trying to bury my
- 43:07feelings, I'm trying to bury my frustrations and it's not
- 43:11working, you know, I just get more frustrated.
- 43:14And all of a sudden he said, why don't you just be honest with me
- 43:17and tell me where you are? I can do that.
- 43:19Yeah, I already know. Just have a comprehend.
- 43:23So what does that mean? It's relationship.
- 43:25It's my relationship with my God, my dad, my heavenly Father.
- 43:30Just say, wow, Byron, just talk to me.
- 43:33Just tell me where you are. And what does that do?
- 43:36I'm now talking not to the enemy, trying to combat the
- 43:40enemy. I'm talking to a loving father
- 43:42who's going totally get it, totally understand where you
- 43:45are. In fact, what if I was the one
- 43:48who allowed it to happen so that you could grow deeper in me?
- 43:52What? Really.
- 43:54OK. And then what happens is you
- 43:57just start confessing and you walk into a real relationship
- 44:00with the father. Why?
- 44:01Because it's honest. It's open now.
- 44:03You have an open relationship with the father, right?
- 44:06And from there, I believe that's where most likely the questions
- 44:11will come in. And he'll give you questions to
- 44:13go, how do I move forward? How do I get out of this?
- 44:17And out of that comes celebration.
- 44:20Love that, you know, and that's one of the things that I want
- 44:22to, I want to highlight something you just said there
- 44:24for a moment and that it's OK to be angry with God.
- 44:28It's OK to be in the season where you're like, God, I don't
- 44:32like you right now, because you know what, to be honest with
- 44:35you, he's going to call you to do some hard things and you're
- 44:38not going to like probably some of them because it's hard.
- 44:41You know, I think my own, my own life.
- 44:44I mean, right now I'm I'm coming up.
- 44:46Actually, you see, this is, we're recording today, on
- 44:49December 2nd. So it is now 8 months that I've
- 44:52been unemployed and I'm like, there's been lots of
- 44:55conversations with God, like, Hey, I don't like what you're
- 44:58doing right now. This is uncomfortable.
- 45:00What, what's going on? And but you know what?
- 45:03It's in this eight months, he has taught me so much about
- 45:06trusting him even more than I already knew because I've,
- 45:09there's a lot in my story that I could go into ways that God has
- 45:12shown me over the years that he can be trusted.
- 45:15But even in these eight months, like it's been, there's been
- 45:18some uncomfortable times, but he's shown up time and time
- 45:21again. But it's even in those hard
- 45:23times, it's that relationship, that honesty that I had with
- 45:27them where like, God, like, I don't know what you're doing and
- 45:29I can't see it and I'm really uncomfortable.
- 45:32But can you like give me a tip here?
- 45:35Like give me something. And it's like you just, you just
- 45:39got to have those conversations with them.
- 45:41And he will provide and he has time and time again.
- 45:44And now just as of last week, he provided a job that I get to
- 45:48start in a few weeks after Christmas.
- 45:50And so I'm like, OK, thank you, God, I'm like.
- 45:53Cool. I'm like, the season is coming
- 45:56to an end. But he's used that.
- 45:58He's used it. You know, a lot of people,
- 46:00they're like, well, why would he do something so hard and allow
- 46:03something so hard in your life? And it's important that you take
- 46:07that time to reflect and figure out, OK, what else is he trying
- 46:09to teach me or get me to do that maybe I hadn't done before.
- 46:13And it was in that time that he used me to finish my book and
- 46:16publish it. He's used me to start this
- 46:19podcast and so there's things that he's been prompting me to
- 46:23do for quite a while that I was dragging my feet on.
- 46:26And so finally he just took me by the ear.
- 46:28You know, you think of a mother or a father that does
- 46:31misbehaving child, you know, they grab you by the ear and
- 46:32they drag you along. Like come with me.
- 46:35That's like he was like, finally he just brought me to my desk
- 46:38and it's like sit down and finish so.
- 46:40Yeah, that's awesome. So I love that you you talked
- 46:44about that because it's important that you realize that
- 46:46sometimes of the first step of being able to forgive yourself
- 46:50is to just be able to have those honest conversations with God
- 46:54and vent those frustrations and be able to talk about them in a
- 46:58very honest and real way with them.
- 47:00Because like you said, he already knows, he's just waiting
- 47:03for you to talk to him. Yeah, exactly.
- 47:06So the last question I have for you today is I want to just talk
- 47:10a little bit about, you know, you've got a lifetime of
- 47:12ministry, miraculous stories that you've talked about.
- 47:15So what is 1 truth about God that you hold on to now more
- 47:20than ever and is something that you want to leave the listeners
- 47:24with to meditate on today? That's a huge question.
- 47:29I didn't say it would be easy. One thing.
- 47:34Wow, yeah, wow. This that one, that one I where
- 47:40we are headed in the Kingdom of God and on the earth today.
- 47:44I believe there are two things that will keep us moving forward
- 47:49no matter where we are and what God does and how our lives are
- 47:52affected all around us. And those two things are what I
- 47:56call my 2 keys. The first one is go low James.
- 47:59Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will exalt you
- 48:04basically in his time. He will do what he wants with
- 48:08because you've you've humbled yourself.
- 48:11And it doesn't say humble yourself before man because it's
- 48:14kind of a Helix. If, if, if you will humble
- 48:16yourself before God, you will naturally be humble before man
- 48:20because God is the creator of all things.
- 48:24He's a little bit mightier. And when we think of that and
- 48:27go, Oh, I'm humbling myself before the greatest, the
- 48:31mightiest, which leads me to the second, which is follow the lead
- 48:36of the Spirit. Listen to what God is asking
- 48:39you. Listen to the Spirit of God and
- 48:41follow that because in these moments of darkness and Indies,
- 48:46when you were in a moment of darkness and struggle, when we
- 48:49humble ourselves before the Lord and then listen to what he's
- 48:53asking and go after it. You know, I, I feel like we all
- 48:57do it. We all hear things and we don't
- 49:00respond well or we wait. What did he do for you?
- 49:04He took you out of a job for eight months.
- 49:07Why? Because he'd been saying
- 49:08something to you for quite a while.
- 49:11Write a book and maybe do this podcast, La, La La.
- 49:14Are you doing it? No, because I'm busy.
- 49:17We, we make excuses. We have different things.
- 49:19Of course we do. We all do it.
- 49:21And yet when we humble ourselves, it naturally draws us
- 49:25to listen to what the spirit is asking of us.
- 49:27That leads us into conversation, which brings us back to what
- 49:32relationship? It brings us back into the
- 49:34relationship. And it's no longer about just
- 49:37what we're doing, but about why we're doing it and who he is and
- 49:42why he wants us to be doing it. And it just gets us.
- 49:45So it almost becomes this Helix where it's like, humble
- 49:48yourself, follow the lead of the Spirit, enter into this
- 49:52relationship. The relationship brings us back
- 49:55into what the knowledge that, wow, He is a big God.
- 49:59I need to humble myself. What do I do when I humble
- 50:01myself? I follow the lead of the Spirit
- 50:04or back up into a relationship, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
- 50:08Yeah. So for me, in these times and
- 50:11when you're struggling, go low, simply go low, go low, keep your
- 50:15head down with the Lord, just go low, humble yourself before Him.
- 50:19And we've talked a lot about that already today.
- 50:21And then, of course, follow the lead of the Spirit.
- 50:23What is He saying to you? And that'll bring you into that
- 50:26relationship. We love that.
- 50:28Well, there's one thing I just want to I want to mention here
- 50:31is, you know, this is a common question that I get.
- 50:34And it's a question honestly, I asked myself over these last
- 50:36eight months is, you know, father, what is it that you're
- 50:39telling me to do? And how do I know it's actually,
- 50:41it's actually from you and it's not my own flesh.
- 50:44And I want to share with the listener something that that he
- 50:47gave me and it's something that I talk about on podcasts
- 50:52occasionally. If you're curious what these
- 50:54things are, you can go out to my website, wesleyfarnsworth.com.
- 50:59And I mentioned it in a few places, but there's a three-step
- 51:02checklist that God gave me to kind of run my thoughts against
- 51:05when I'm trying to decipher it's from if it's from him or if it's
- 51:08a flesh towards the enemy. And so that first, that first
- 51:12step is, is what you feel like he's being, you're being told to
- 51:16do. Will it further the Kingdom of
- 51:18God? It's the answer to that is yes.
- 51:20Then you move on to Step 2. Step 2 is what you're being
- 51:24called to do something that the enemy would want you to do.
- 51:28If the answer to that is no, then you move on to Step 3
- 51:32because he's in there. The enemy, the enemy doesn't
- 51:35want you to do things that are going to further the Kingdom of
- 51:37God. And so finally, the third one
- 51:39is, is this something that you're comfortable with?
- 51:42If the answer to that is no, then the chances are it's not
- 51:45your flesh telling you to do it because the flesh wouldn't want
- 51:48you to do something that's uncomfortable.
- 51:50And so the chances are if you're saying yes, that's something
- 51:53that's going further the Kingdom of God.
- 51:55And no, it's not something enemy wants me to do.
- 51:57And no, it's not something my flesh would want me to do
- 52:00because it's uncomfortable. There's a very good chance that
- 52:03it's what God wants you you to do and it's telling you to do.
- 52:06And so run for and move forward in that.
- 52:08Yeah, that's good. And so I want to leave the
- 52:11listeners with that because it's something that I think is
- 52:13important to mention here based on what what you've just shared.
- 52:17And so Byron, for those that want to find out more about you,
- 52:20they want to find you on the Internet or whatever it is, tell
- 52:23our listeners. Tell me, tell my listeners where
- 52:25they can find you and find out more about you.
- 52:27Yeah, the easiest way is there's, I have a website you
- 52:31can go to byroneasterling.com or it links to what is Pop Up Cafe
- 52:36dot Live. Pop up Cafe dot Live.
- 52:39My books are on Amazon. In fact, I want to tell you that
- 52:42I will put a curious Tales of a Common Man up within a few days.
- 52:48Well, we'll figure that out for your listeners for they can
- 52:53download a free ebook. I always give that to podcasts.
- 52:56You just all well, when this airs, it'll either be around
- 53:00that day that as as this airs. So I'm assuming you do some
- 53:05editing. You can so and you'll find that
- 53:09you can. I'll give you a.
- 53:11You'll have a link probably in your description in your notes
- 53:15and that'll take you there, and it'll be on a specific date that
- 53:20will also be listed there for you.
- 53:22Perfect. So listeners, if you want to
- 53:23hear more about Byron or to download that ebook that he
- 53:26mentioned a check the show notes and you can find that link.
