Latest / The Regulars / NFL Collusion Exposed: The Shocking Cover-Up and What It Means for Players

- 0:00Welcome one. Welcome all. It is a Friday night. It is a full spectrum of sports this week
- 0:17and it's been a long, long fucking week for everyone involved in this show. Welcome. This
- 0:24is The Regulars. I'm Cody Duggar. I'm Tanya Ray Fox. Tanya, how's life with you?
- 0:29This week has like actually sucked to the point where I, when we were meeting before the show,
- 0:34I was like, you were like, oh, well, you know, we're gonna have a great Friday show. And I was
- 0:37like, oh, it's Monday. I, you, you mix up maybe a Thursday and a Friday, a Friday to Saturday,
- 0:44maybe a Monday to Tuesday. Yes, you thought today was Monday. That's how shitty your week has been,
- 0:48which I was kind of baffled by. Yeah. By the way, I'm glad you've somehow survived the week
- 0:53somehow thinking it was Monday. I don't know how you could have possibly thought yesterday
- 0:56was the weekend. But then again, this week has felt like, I don't know, a century. I think I was
- 1:03working under the assumption that like time had stopped. It was irrelevant. And you know, that's
- 1:08like, I wasn't even thinking about what day it is anymore. And then I just assumed it because it
- 1:13felt like an awful day. It didn't feel like a Friday. I just was like, oh, it must be a Monday
- 1:16show. I'm very sorry you've had an awful day and week, but it's going to be a better week. A lot
- 1:20of crazy things going on all over the place. Next week, we're probably going to be doing the shows
- 1:24on Tuesday and Thursday next week. And trust me, there are reasons for that. And we're very excited
- 1:31to talk to you guys about the reasons. And yes, following that, of course, is are these glasses,
- 1:36the sweetest glasses you've ever seen? The answer is yes, you're welcome. Tanya kind of challenged
- 1:41me in my glass I wear today. So I decided to go full on fucking straight rocket. You made a really
- 1:48good point that like the because you don't have hair, your glasses are your hair. They're the
- 1:54statement piece of your face, your head. Yes, that and the beard and the beard. And as is my
- 2:00hair, my fake hair. Yes. So like we both have manufactured things. By the way, I told her I
- 2:04got some new glasses. Mocha's in the remote. I told her I got new glasses today. She's like,
- 2:08why do you need more glasses? Like you get to have fucking hair. Why can't I have glasses?
- 2:12You have your hair. I have my glasses. And she immediately and I mean this. It's the first time
- 2:17I've ever seen her just fucking mouth went shut. And she goes like, got it. Yeah, I have. I have
- 2:23lost this debate before the fight even started. I mean, it wasn't even a debate, really. Because
- 2:27like, yeah, no, I thought I'm coming. I thought one come to that point. I know because I threw
- 2:33my finishing maneuver on you on the on the get go. I jackknife powerbomb Bob Backlund within five
- 2:39seconds. I wasn't asking why you were getting new glasses. I was asking you have a crazy like
- 2:45whole system of getting your you were like, okay, well, I've got to get the frames here.
- 2:49And they're going to New York. And that's where they do the frames. Very high,
- 2:53high class, high quality, and long term system. And I was simply curious as to why you're just
- 3:00feel the weight of those. Oh, I can barely hold them up. Thank God you work out. You wouldn't be
- 3:06able to carry these bad boys. All right. So we got a lot of sports to get to. And as you know,
- 3:11the kind of the idea of this show and how this show kind of runs, it is not exactly the happiness
- 3:15when it comes to the world of sports. We can be it can be great. No, we have moments. We have
- 3:20plenty of moments where we get into the good side of the story. We try to always end you on a good
- 3:24note. But we do like to get into the deep and gritty details of certain things. And we often
- 3:28get into the gritty and gritty and detailed. I don't know muck when it comes to PA's ownerships.
- 3:36A lot of times follow the money type of conversations we have on this show. And
- 3:41unfortunately, today for headline number one, this is follow the money, follow the money,
- 3:46follow the money, and then some. It's actually I the reason I honestly wanted this at the beginning
- 3:52of the show, as as I mean, at any point in time, we do the show together, we produce it together,
- 3:58but I usually put down the rundown. And you know, if there's something we need to rearrange, of
- 4:02course, we will. But the reason I wanted this off the top of the show is because I genuinely think
- 4:07this is like one of the biggest stories in sports right now. And nobody's talking about
- 4:11Pablo Torre, as per usual, is talking about it. And like, this was a massive, sort of like
- 4:17groundbreaking interview that he did with the former head of the NFL, PA, DeMora Smith,
- 4:24because it was Pablo Torre, who broke the the kind of got his hands on and published
- 4:31the 61 page finding from the arbitration in an NFL PA collusion case. And the findings
- 4:38came down a couple weeks ago, courtesy of Torre, and to some extent, Mike Florio.
- 4:43And what ended up happening was it, it revealed essentially that the arbitration,
- 4:49the judges in that situation had basically said, we know you tried to, we can see there's evidence,
- 4:55we have all this evidence in that was in discovery that you tried to collude against
- 4:59quarterbacks from getting guaranteed money. And we just can't prove it. So technically,
- 5:04the NFL PA lost that case, that collusion case. But there's and there's two things there that is,
- 5:13that is kind of controversial on its own. But what DeMora Smith and and Pablo Torre revealed
- 5:18in this very exceptional, exceptionally long and detailed interview was that not only did
- 5:25that happen, but the NFL PA itself, led by JC Tretter, who has his own sordid past,
- 5:32tried to cover up that the results and the findings of that case. And that is called
- 5:40we have double collusion. That's more than collusion. That's um, so you know how they
- 5:44say the the old the old adagio that the cover up is always the thing that gets you. It's not the
- 5:50crime. It's the cover up of the crime right usually gets you. So this is the NFL getting
- 5:55caught colluding. And then and this is why it's such a it's such a baffling thing. It's not that
- 6:01the cover up began, I almost I would almost be shocked that there wasn't a cover up that began.
- 6:06It's who's behind the cover up, and who's involved with the cover up. And holy shit,
- 6:10as someone that's been part of a major league baseball PA, and seeing what professional sports
- 6:15PAs are compared to what the ownerships are, to hear that your head of your PA is the one that
- 6:21helped the NFL bury this thing is so mind numbingly baffling to me. It's also very eye opening to me
- 6:31exactly why the NFL PA is nowhere near the strength of the major league baseball PA.
- 6:37Because if this guy is, if the phone if the calls coming from inside the house,
- 6:42and it's from the big boss from inside that no one's safe, that is as ugly as it humanly gets.
- 6:49This guy's job is to safeguard you from that league. He's a double agent, man, that is as
- 6:55bad as it fucking gets. And I'll tell you, I'll tell you what, that's exactly what he is. They
- 7:00installed him for that very reason. And here's the really frustrating part is Demar Smith. He in this
- 7:07you got to watch this interview if you have not, because it just gives you such an insight into the
- 7:12fact that like standard operating procedure in the NFL is collusion and the Morris Smith is the
- 7:17head of the NFL PA and I'm sure good NFL PA leaders, um, sort of spend their entire like
- 7:23career their entire time in that role, trying to snuff out and, and, and stop collusion.
- 7:30Like that's, so it's not even just, it goes all the way back for him all the way to the CBA
- 7:36negotiations in 2011. Um, when the NFL colluded with their broadcast partners to secure themselves
- 7:43$4 billion in case there was a lockout, they would have $4 billion, uh, to spread amongst
- 7:49the NFL owners for stadium costs, which is a direct, uh, violation of the CBA. You cannot
- 7:54collude to get money from a broadcast that where there are obviously where you're splitting the
- 7:58profits with the players, keep profits for yourself to, and then collude against the players
- 8:03because essentially they said, well, this will give us leverage. This is by the way, laid out
- 8:08in documents they have in discovery that we know they did this. They had slideshows about it.
- 8:12If we have this $4 billion, um, it's a, it's safeguard for us gives us leverage, uh, over the
- 8:17NFL PA and over the players to stall negotiations because we have our costs covered stealing money
- 8:24from the players essentially. So he's been dealing with this all the way since then.
- 8:27And I think there was, uh, so he was actually the, the, the Morris Smith was who filed this case on
- 8:33behalf of Lamar Jackson, Deshaun, I'm sorry, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, and Russell Wilson.
- 8:40Um, in 2023, I think, or 20 about 2023, right before he was out from that position. So he
- 8:48filed it, but he wasn't the one who saw it through. Now the case itself claimed essentially that
- 8:54obviously all the owners had colluded to stop them from getting guaranteed money.
- 8:58We have proof that that happened because we have the Roger Goodell. Um, uh, what we have
- 9:04the, I forget if it was written or if it was a slideshow or whatever it was, the thing he presented
- 9:08to the owners that said, we've got to stop this guaranteed money. The question is why did it begin
- 9:12here with the Deshaun Watson? Uh, case when there are now three black quarterbacks who are, you know,
- 9:18starting, who are trying to negotiate new deals. Um, the other thing that they discovered in here,
- 9:22which was a massive smoking gun was a letter from, or an email because they're all these
- 9:28motherfuckers put everything in writing. I don't know why it feels like you should know by now,
- 9:32not to, but they do from the owner of the Cardinals, uh, to the owner of the chargers.
- 9:37Yeah. I believe it was, or it might've been the charges to the Cardinal. Uh, I think it was either
- 9:42way. It was a letter, a email where they were like, yeah, we were able to like, get away with
- 9:47like low money, blah, blah, blah. And then all admitting that he, he colluded to get Kyler
- 9:52Murray's, uh, guaranteed money down. And they were like, all right, this is perfect. You know,
- 9:56the Browns really screwed us on this, but we're going to like, just laid it out point blank.
- 10:00Yes. It's a full on play. Right. And the, the really funny part about this is so Deshaun Watson
- 10:06gets his guaranteed money. He was not the first one to get a fully guaranteed contract. The first
- 10:09one to get a fully guaranteed contract was Kirk cousins, which also sent shock waves at the time.
- 10:13It was like a fully guaranteed contract with Kirk cousins. We didn't say, see the same type of
- 10:18reaction to that across the league. And so DeMora Smith posits like, Hey, do we go back and kind of
- 10:22look at how long this has been going on? And at what point there was this turning and why it
- 10:28happened after this, but not Kirk cousins. And the thing that I find really the most interesting
- 10:33about it, Cody is I think the reason this has become what it's become is not only because
- 10:38public Tory got his hands on these documents that the NFL PA colluded with the NFL to cover up the
- 10:42collusion, but I think they flew too close to the collusion son doing this to handling it this way
- 10:51with Lamar Jackson specifically. It's one thing for Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray, not to get
- 10:58as much guaranteed money as they wanted on their contracts. Kyler Murray still was trying to prove
- 11:02himself as a starting quarterback. Russell Wilson, not no longer fully in his prime anymore, moved on
- 11:08to new teams. You don't, when you're talking about objectively the best quarterback to become
- 11:17available to any team in a long time in Lamar Jackson and unanimous MVP, somebody who, who the
- 11:25next two seasons after this was an MVP and then a MP MVP finalist, again, to sell the general public,
- 11:32the NFL PA, everybody else on the idea that every single team was like, you know what?
- 11:37Two first round picks. I don't think he's worth it. It just wasn't possible. They flew too close
- 11:41to the sun colluding against a player of that caliber. No one's no one was buying that no team
- 11:48in the NFL wanted Lamar Jackson. And then there was every single narrative that could be pulled
- 11:52out of the sun. I mean, you got, you got, you got them all the moms, the doesn't know what she's
- 11:56doing. Cause she's acting as the agent. And then, then all of a sudden these character issues that
- 12:00we know for a goddamn fact don't exist are all of a sudden coming into question. I mean, we're
- 12:06watching the exact same thing happen right now with the Eagles right now. And that also is a
- 12:10separate thing where the call is coming from inside the house. Cause it's very clearly it's
- 12:13coming from Sirianni specifically. This is, this is getting ugly and it's getting ugly in a way
- 12:20that I don't even feel comfortable with. And weirdly, I also feel like there, you know,
- 12:24it's also playing a massive hand in this, the stupid ass salary cap that the NFL has that they,
- 12:29honest to God should not have period stop. I don't understand how there is not guaranteed money
- 12:34in the NFL car crashes that are happening every 25 seconds. It's absolutely baffling.
- 12:40That's exactly what Tamora Smith says in this interview. He talks to, he said,
- 12:43you have players who they, they sign up to get hit by a car every single, every single time you go
- 12:49to play. So to, to have the, so in order to not get them paid in the way that you need to get
- 12:56them paid, you need to collude because these players themselves, like it's our job as the NFL
- 13:01PA to understand who we're standing up for. We're standing up for people who are signing
- 13:04up for a car crash every week. And you got the NFL PA head. That's keeping guys from getting
- 13:09their hands on guaranteed money, which in as far as I'm concerned, I can't stress this enough.
- 13:13This league should not have a salary cap. The fact that we have to play with a salary cap in the NFL
- 13:18is actually fucking mind numbing. This is a league that makes more money than major league baseball
- 13:24and the NBA fucking combined. This is insane. Do you know about the invisible salary cap that
- 13:29they tried to pull in the last CBA negotiation? They did this thing where they colluded to,
- 13:34for a invisible salary cap where everybody agreed not to spend a certain amount on players to,
- 13:38to Jack the player negotiate that player salary is down, but two teams, I believe it was the,
- 13:43it was Washington and maybe the Cowboys decided to spend whatever they wanted, broke the collusion.
- 13:50That became a whole shit show that league wanted them to take money from players. But I mean,
- 13:55so the salary cap itself has its own problems. You're you're saying,
- 13:58then they're trying to manipulate the salary cap in ways we can't even really.
- 14:03Oh yeah. They're trying everything they can to make sure that the players, even though the,
- 14:07the rules are very stated that the cap goes up each year, they're trying very hard,
- 14:11every human possible way to circumvent that. But while their profits just keep continuing to sky
- 14:16rocket and soar, I do not think the salary cap is going up at the exact same expenditure. And
- 14:22also I want to point out, they shouldn't have a fucking salary cap to begin with.
- 14:25The crazy part is the salary cap has doubled in the last 10 years. It's gone up 40% in just the
- 14:31last five. And what they're doing is they're creating all of these like ways to pay quarterbacks
- 14:39and superstars and work around. And you'll see what we didn't use to see, which people don't
- 14:44know is we didn't use to see restructuring of quarterback contracts every two years.
- 14:48That was not a thing, right? Like that, that that's insane. Lamar Jackson had a,
- 14:53a signed a quarterback and signed his contract in 2023. He's already trying to renegotiate.
- 14:58That's standard. Now, these, all of these things are salary cap manipulation. And the reality is
- 15:05the players are constantly in these memos. If you go through everything that's like,
- 15:10that's been shown, their goal is always to say, we don't want to pay players who aren't worth it,
- 15:14who aren't going to, who aren't going to, to play to the level of the contract. So that's why
- 15:18they're always afraid of guaranteed money. Cause they're like, almost nobody is going to be worth
- 15:21the guaranteed money. But the owners themselves aren't worth the money that they're the, the,
- 15:27there's no accountability for bad ownership. Nope. Right. So bad owners can be bad owners.
- 15:33We've seen it from the Bengals and the Browns and the Cardinals and all these teams for years
- 15:36and years and years. There's no accountability there. So to ever take the side of billionaires
- 15:40in this situation is crazy to take the side of billionaires as an NFL PA head is full on.
- 15:44Just that's just clearly dirty business. And what I really like wish people understood is that like,
- 15:51if there is something that seems shady, it is almost always collusion in the NFL. They cannot
- 15:57operate the way that they, they want, they cannot operate the way they do without it. And the reason
- 16:01it is so rampant and so hard to prove is because there's no, the, the NFL does not like have any
- 16:08audit. They don't get audited. No, there's. And I know, I'm not saying that as like a hyperbole,
- 16:13they don't get, they don't get audited. There is no oversight from the department. They oversight
- 16:18themselves, right? They are completely autonomous organization in that way. And so everybody's
- 16:24like, well, how could they get away with this? How there's no oversight. The only people who
- 16:30hold them to any level of account are the PA that's it. And so like these, these little moments
- 16:39where they have these slip-ups where they have these Robert Kraft accidentally sending an email
- 16:44to DeMora Smith saying how they colluded, not realizing he revealed it. Um, them flying a
- 16:51little too close to the sun, trying to pretend the entire league doesn't want Lamar Jackson.
- 16:55Um, try it. And then they come out and they're like, Oh, you know, well you would have had to
- 16:58give him, you would have had to give up two first round picks and pay him a new contract.
- 17:02Did you know that's normal? Yeah. Like, do you remember how much the lions got for Matthew
- 17:09Stafford at the age of 32, 33? Here's, here's what it all comes down to. And by the way, you also
- 17:14said a great point of that. I really, really did like, cause it's, it makes me think you bad owners
- 17:18are just bad owners at the end of the day, because the salary cap thing, which has always been
- 17:21nonsense to me to begin with, because everybody has to spend at least 90% of the salary cap
- 17:25anyway. So that 90% of the salary cap is still keeping the same teams as shitty every single
- 17:30year, year in, year out, get out of here. And it's honestly, if I'm major league baseball,
- 17:34specifically if I am the major league baseball PA going into an upcoming CBA that everyone under the
- 17:39sun thinks is going to end up in a work stoppage. Well, right now fight four of the top five salaries
- 17:45in major league baseball are like all under 500 right now. And part of me wants that to continue
- 17:50while the Dodgers continues to ascend. I don't want anybody to hear, I don't want to hear shit
- 17:54about pay disparity, disparity. It's about what you do with said money. The Dodgers allocate their
- 17:58money better than other teams, period stop. They develop better. They take care of their players
- 18:03better. There's a reason everyone wants to play with that team. And look, the vets are spending
- 18:07just as much money. Practically they they're dog shit right now. The Philly spent a ton of money.
- 18:12They're not very good right now either. The Toronto blue Jays run the world series. They're
- 18:16off to a slow start. Like enough. I'm tired of this. It's not about, Oh my God, all of the money.
- 18:22Every one of these teams can pay this guaranteed contract to every single player that's underneath
- 18:28their umbrella, and they can do it 10 times over, especially in the goddamn NFL.
- 18:35So I, uh, I, uh, to Robin, if I really do think that if you find any of this interesting,
- 18:40or if you actually want to know the scope of what's going on, whether you like to do more
- 18:43Smith Smith or not, he was pretty litigious on behalf of NFL players and, um, and JC Treader
- 18:50and the current and the people who have been in charge in the past, especially over this,
- 18:54uh, it's, it's really bad. You should listen to this. You should pay attention to it.
- 18:58I'm not telling people not to, I, I watched the NFL. I liked the NFL. I want the NFL to be better.
- 19:03And I want these players to have better situations for them. A lot of people will come in my comments,
- 19:06Cody and tell me like, well, if you hate the NFL so much, or if you know how racist and lame it is,
- 19:10like, why do you even watch? Why do you bother? Well, because I I've been covering sports my
- 19:13entire life and it's what I do. And we live in a system where like, what, what, what company can I
- 19:17go cover? That's not a capitalist hell hole. Like I'm not, I don't play that game, but I think,
- 19:23I think what I do is really valid. I agree. I have a question for you. Is it a, why are you
- 19:28the bad guy? Cause you want fucking things to be better. That's a, that's a thing that will always
- 19:33bad intellectual. There's a lot of anti-intellectualism, I think in the comments,
- 19:37why are you even complaining? Because we don't want it to get fucking worse. Cause it will like,
- 19:43do you prefer like turning on Fox sports and listening to people act like it's not happening?
- 19:48Or do you like that? I kind of want to shake, shake these fans. Cause they don't seem to
- 19:51understand that. Cause this actually very much affects them. Is there a goal in life to be
- 19:56priced out of everything that they love? Because they're being priced out of their sports. They're
- 20:00being priced out of ticket sales. They're being priced out of seeing games live. They're being
- 20:04priced out of TV packages. They're being priced out of paywalls. They're being priced out of
- 20:10fucking reading news about things. Cause you have to pay for subscriptions to even read real
- 20:15articles at this point, they're being priced out. And it's only going to happen more. If the PA
- 20:19gets weaker because of the owners just keep going willy nilly doing anything they fucking want.
- 20:24Government ain't going to stop them. They're in league with the government. Meanwhile, here I am
- 20:29like a career media person with no paywall. You can go on any of my platforms, watch my shit for
- 20:34free and learn about what's going on so that you actually have this information to, and I'm the
- 20:40bad guy because I cover a league that I'm trying to show you exactly like it's all, it's going to
- 20:46exist with or without me. Yeah. Do you, all the points you just made? Plus if you want media
- 20:52transparency, if you want people talking about what's really going on, guess what I'm going to
- 20:55have to do. Watch and give a fuck about the league. And you know what? You have to go very
- 20:58hard to find the people that are actually talking about this. Cause you're not going to see it
- 21:01talked about on FS1. You're not going to see it talked about on ESPN because they play those
- 21:06games. They have those contracts. They need those contracts. So they're not going to talk
- 21:11about it. It's Puff P central. You're going to hear more about Ty Simpson and why he's the best
- 21:17draft ever. Way more times than you hear one thing about it. You heard from on ESPN on Pat
- 21:23McAfee show was JC Treader. They had the NFL with his NFL PA thing on his tell saying Pablo Tory
- 21:28didn't know what he was talking about. So not only that you're going to get the propaganda,
- 21:32not only are you not going to hear what's going on, you're going to occasionally get propaganda.
- 21:35Now I'm not saying everybody at those networks is always giving propaganda, but if you're going
- 21:38to get it, that's where you're going to get it. So, okay. Stop asking me that fucking question.
- 21:42Thank you. Yeah. It's very frustrating. There's not a single show that like you might get it
- 21:47occasionally. Cause we did give credit to Greeny last week with the question that he asked Roger
- 21:50Goodell. But I also don't want to give Greeny that much credit because this was in a godly low
- 21:56fucking bar and we acted like he fucking cured cancer. He asked him two relatively difficult
- 22:03questions with like two relative follow-ups and they were good questions and he answered them
- 22:09relatively well. It'll never be fucking asked again. And we walked around going like, my God,
- 22:15that brave man, that is Cronkite in his prime. That's Dan Rather getting ripped out of like,
- 22:21Jesus Christ, like guys, what has happened to all of us? Yeah. It's bad news. Oh my God.
- 22:28Headline number two, the NBA playoffs are fun. By the way, before we get into where the NBA
- 22:33playoffs are right now, good news for the NBA. The ratings for this first round are up.
- 22:39Which is fantastic. They are averaging 3.65 million viewers in this first round. And that's
- 22:44good news for a couple of reasons. Cause me, who's even an NBA fan, had little interest in the first
- 22:48round because of the matchup. And you know what? The matchup that you and I were most excited about
- 22:52ended up being the worst goddamn matchup of the entire series. And all the other ones are fucking
- 22:56great. This is, I, this is the thing is like at the end of the day, no matter how much you know
- 23:03about a league, no matter how often you cover it, talk about it, whatever else you cannot predict
- 23:08sports. Like you really can't because there was nobody that was predicting a single one of these
- 23:14series going the way they've got not a single. And that is the chaos is fun. The chaos has created a
- 23:20world where at least the first round is cool. I do think we could land in a very dark place in
- 23:24these second round matchups because of the teams that we thought might actually being contenders,
- 23:31not being them. I mean, that's, it could get dark or we could be surprised again,
- 23:36but currently where we stand is that, um, uh, the Knicks, uh, how, how do I put it?
- 23:42Waxed all that ass. Oh, oh, oh, by the way, can I tell you something? I mentioned this on beetle
- 23:50and Decker today, and I would like your opinion on this because I know we're, we're actually
- 23:53excited about the NBA playoffs and everything that's going on. Can I, can I mention one thing
- 23:56that we mentioned on this show that really pissed me off last night? Please do last night. I went
- 24:00to one of my favorite restaurants, water grill here in Santa Monica. You know, you've been to
- 24:04water grill. It's one of our spots. So I go to water grill and the game is on watching the Knicks
- 24:12and it's a fucking blowout. It's already like a 15, 50 point blowout at this point. It's like
- 24:16barely past it's barely in the third quarter. There's another game on and I'm looking at my
- 24:21phone and I say, Oh my God, Philly's up on Boston. Can you change the channel over to that?
- 24:26And he looked at me and he said, it's on Peacock. Yep. The fact that you guys, and this is not just
- 24:35NBA, major league baseball, fucking quit it. Fucking NFL. You better not a playoff game
- 24:41that cannot be watched at a communal bar is a goddamn problem. Really bad period. Really bad.
- 24:51So Chris and I went on a rant about this because we were at during college football season,
- 24:56there was a huge Michigan game. Dude, the college football primetime Michigan game
- 25:04could not watch it at the bar. There's 4 million TVs, 4 million TVs. This wasn't even a water
- 25:10grill situation. We're at a place with wall to wall TVs. I'm like, why don't they have the
- 25:14Michigan game? They're like, it's on Peacock. We, I don't, we're in the end times. We know
- 25:20this incredibly frustrating. Yes. Um, and that would have been one of those situations where
- 25:25it's just like, why am I even out? And that's what they want. They want individual subscriptions
- 25:30because communal watching means fewer subscriptions. Fuck. Oh, dude.
- 25:37We have gotten to a point where, and I mean this and everything, but sports is one of the most
- 25:43obvious culprits. And I, and I really thinking that some fans are waking up, there's still too
- 25:48many dumb ones that are not. Um, but you need to start saying things about this at this point. You
- 25:53need to start using your voice and bitching about this on the threads, on the Twitters, on the thing,
- 25:58because what is being done with this particular thing is absolutely fucking criminal. They are
- 26:04actually taking away the most important thing about sports. Sports are community. Every single
- 26:10sports team, even though they are in an owned IP by owners, quote unquote, that IP isn't really
- 26:17theirs. That IP belongs to the city, the city and its fans and its fans can't fucking watch the games
- 26:24in a community community setting is really just, it's literally when I say it's the antithesis of
- 26:31what sports are. I don't know what to say. We have to be fans by ourselves is fucking wild to me.
- 26:38And on top of that, most of these teams in some way, shape or form, if not entirely are
- 26:43subsidized, have their stadiums, whatever else subsidized by taxpayer money. They have their,
- 26:48their team subsidized by PSL licenses. Like all these things, like what the fuck are we doing?
- 26:53Yeah. Taxpayer money builds every single state. Don't worry. If you want to watch the game,
- 26:59you can't make it into the game, right? Okay. We've paid for the stadium. I want to go watch
- 27:03the game near the stadium because they can't afford to go in anymore. Now I can't do that
- 27:08either. What the fuck are we doing? And by the way, I saw that wonderful rollout by the Browns
- 27:13today of their, of their, the rendering of their new state. Where the fuck do you sacks of shit?
- 27:20Get the balls to ask Cleveland for fucking anything. It's psychotic balls on you guys.
- 27:30It's really bad. And then, and then, you know what they do if they, if they don't get their money,
- 27:35well, we could move to Kentucky or, you know, but that sucks. That fucking sucks. It's just so bad.
- 27:42Um, quickly back to basketball. I do want to say no, no, we're good. Um, so Timberwolves
- 27:47eliminated the nuggets without two of their best players. I don't want to talk about it.
- 27:51Actually insane. I love like the only reason I was rooting for the Timberwolves is cause I love
- 27:55it. You know, I love it, but he's her, but he's never extended me.
- 28:00And they still beat the fucking nuggets. And this was exactly what we, what looked,
- 28:07it looked like the nuggets were kind of struggling. And then they went on a little
- 28:11roll. This is bad. The nuggets are, are really fucking wasting Nikola Jokic and Nikola Jokic
- 28:17said afterwards, the nuggets are far away from a title. And he said, if we were in Serbia,
- 28:21we would all get fired dead. Serious. He is. He's really frustrated. You might all get shot.
- 28:28Okay. Well, let's not do that. I didn't say by the owners and the team or the government
- 28:34just in gen by fans, those fans might fucking be wild. I don't know. I've seen fires started in
- 28:39those fucking stands. He'd have quit basketball to do his horses by now. He so just wants to be
- 28:44chariots of fire and it's really bad. Like for somebody like Jokic to not be able to get out
- 28:50of the first round to like, this is not something we saw a lot. Once Kobe LeBron staff were into
- 28:57their primes of, of making and winning championships. We were not seeing this stuff.
- 29:02And it's starting to become a problem. I mean, Giannis has been struggling like to,
- 29:05to get things going in Milwaukee since they won their title. Same, same with Jokic. And it's like,
- 29:11this is not a great sign for your like mid tier NBA organizations when this stuff is happening.
- 29:17Meanwhile. Yeah. The, the, the Knicks absolutely like a 51 point win is the most dominant playoff
- 29:23win in the history of their franchise. Like to the point where I'm like, what's it is starting
- 29:29to make me feel like the, none of these teams are good. And so every, every game is just like
- 29:34a crap shoot. Like, it's just like, how are you feeling that day? How do you feel about the Celtics
- 29:40going into game seven? I mean, I still think the Celtics are going to win. I do. Although I do,
- 29:45I would like to see them not just, not because I hate the Celtics, the chaos would be quite,
- 29:51quite, you don't hope they get their stuff together and kind of like become the team
- 29:54that could be just, just to give us potentially an NBA finals. That was worth watching.
- 30:00Cause I mean, okay. She's going to boat race. Everybody that's in front of her,
- 30:04if the Celtics don't make it through and like, let's say, let's say that it's the Knicks,
- 30:08the Sixers. And what would it be them? I guess magic magic. That's bad news bears,
- 30:15dude. I think it's bad news beers, period. Even with the Celtics. That's just the, that's just
- 30:22at the very least, he's given Celtics a run for their money. I've never seen them do it before.
- 30:27So I was like, I didn't know y'all had it. Tyrese Maxey is the difference. No, he's a monster. And
- 30:32now Joelle and B looks like Joelle all of a sudden, which he does. He does that occasionally.
- 30:37Hold on. Wait a second. Hold on. I'm Joelle. Remember that time I won the MVP two years ago.
- 30:41It is like Joelle. I mean, it's one of the most infuriating players. Cause it's like,
- 30:45at any point in time, he could be the best player in the NBA.
- 30:48Um, and obviously he has injury issues, whatever else, but I'm just saying it could be absolutely
- 30:52fascinating, but I still think the Boston Celtics will get it together. And the reason why I think
- 30:56that is because I've seen them do this before. I've seen them do this a couple of times. I've
- 30:59also seen blown up before, but I just, I can't imagine the Celtics get knocked out in the first
- 31:05round with everybody on the court. That being said, I've seen crazier, crazier shit has happened.
- 31:11I firmly still, if I were to, if I were to put a bet on it, I would bet on the Celtics. That's
- 31:16not what my hope is. I love chaos. No, I feel you. Um, this is obviously not going to stay very
- 31:23evergreen very long, but how do you feel about what the Laker could the Lakers seal a deal?
- 31:26Or what do you, they fucking better. Do you think they're gonna be fucking bad? I think,
- 31:32I think they're good. I think they're going to lose and it's going to be a game seven.
- 31:35Don't put that on. Don't put that evil on me. Ricky Bobby. Yeah, that's fair. Why would you
- 31:38do that? I don't want it. I want Marcus smart to make it through. I also want to make this
- 31:42abundantly clear. Yes. I want my Lakers to make it through. I do think they're going to win this
- 31:45series. Hopefully in game six, if it goes to game seven, I will be on panic button.
- 31:50That being said, welcome to my life. Does it fucking matter? Yeah, it's four games. It's
- 31:57you're giving me four more games. And I do say that very specifically four more games,
- 32:02because the Oklahoma city thunder will kill the Lakers in a way that, that, that maybe LeBron
- 32:09will fucking retire. But think about it. Think about this. At least you'd get to see Marcus
- 32:14smart. Fuck with Shay a little bit. Okay. I would like that. That's fine. I would like that. That's
- 32:17fine. I want that. I want the Lakers move forward. I think it'd be great. But like at the end of the
- 32:21day, it's not, it's not even their fault. I don't, I won't even be mad at them if they get their ass
- 32:25a sweat. This Oklahoma city team is so fucking stupid. The only team that I truly think can
- 32:29meet them is the spurs. And the reason I say that is because we've seen it. That's the one team this
- 32:33year. That's really given a problem. Yeah. That's right. Will they do it in a playoffs? I do not
- 32:39fucking know. All I know is watching when being some of these games and just what a difference
- 32:46maker he is on the court is just insane. Like I don't truly remember when he's going off on a role.
- 32:54I just don't remember watching a guy that just like, yeah, there's nothing anyone can do at all.
- 33:00The closest thing we've seen for our lifetime is Shaq. Yeah. Like there's just no, if he has the
- 33:05ball there, there's just fucking nothing you can do if they're, if they're, if he's rolling. Yeah.
- 33:12It's just wild. Yeah. It's just, it's wild how he does it. And, uh, I look forward to seeing more
- 33:17of it. Uh, that being said, um, uh, I would like Detroit to move forward and I'll tell you why
- 33:23Detroit, Detroit basketball. I think the pistons are cool. I think, I think Kate,
- 33:31I like pistons. I like Detroit sports fans. Um, I'm kind of into them as a, as a general vibe.
- 33:37So not that I don't love angel Reese. I'm a fan of angel Reese, but man, the shade she was
- 33:42throwing on their last lost Orlando to, to Jalen. Wait, did she throw shade? Did I miss this?
- 33:47Oh, where were the fuck were you? I must've been wrapped up in clay Thompson. So Jalen gets dunked
- 33:56on really bad in that game. Okay. So, uh, after they lost the game, there was a screenshot of
- 34:03the foot of the dunk, the really brutal dunk on thing and the score of the, of the Detroit pistons
- 34:08losing the game. And that was definitely posted on angel Reese's Instagram that night, multiple
- 34:14times. She, she was, she posted it. She posted Jalen getting dunked on really hard. I mean,
- 34:23wouldn't you, if you were Angelo, I mean, sure. I try not to throw my fucking dirty laundry out
- 34:28on social media, but you know, you gotta do what you gotta do. Is it? I mean, listen, he probably,
- 34:32he probably did some shading, but I'm going to listen to pro athletes. Listen, if we've not
- 34:38learned anything about people in this fucking industry and their sex lives, everybody is
- 34:42clearly fucking everybody. No one's faithful. And everybody, no, everybody, everybody sucks in
- 34:49their private lives. It's their private lives. It's their right to suck. But everybody does.
- 34:53I mean, I will say this when you do that, like I'm all for it. I'm all for doing that. If you're,
- 34:57if you're mad at your ex-boyfriend, you want to be petty fine. But when something happens to you in
- 35:02a game, when you get crossed up in a game, when you get, you know, when the me bounds things start
- 35:08happening again, he's allowed to do it too. The me bounds are just her getting rebounds.
- 35:12So I'm not sure that's one, but like, you know, let's say she gets her ankles broken or whatever,
- 35:16right? Like in a, you mean vigorously? Yes. In basketball. I'm sorry. I'm, I'm, I'm seeing a
- 35:23lot of Achilles injuries lately. And that immediately made me like, Oh no, I don't want
- 35:27that. Let's say she breaks both. Let's say she gets hit by a train. I don't want her to be hit
- 35:33by a train. I was talking about basketball, Cody, when this is a sports podcast reminder. Yeah. So
- 35:38then, you know, Hey, it's then we're into fair game territory. How far you want to take this?
- 35:42So that's the, that's the fun part about two pro athletes. I guess so. I guess so.
- 35:51Everybody on this podcast knows that you made that quite clear.
- 35:56Exactly. And I could not agree more. Might be the thing we've agreed on most in our entire
- 36:01The greatest thing that ever happened to Houston Astros baseball.
- 36:05Fair enough. Google it. Everybody knows how much I love Houston Astros. I hate Houston Astros
- 36:10baseball. Google. It's the best thing that ever happened to them,
- 36:14including their world series. Series is series is, is that how is it?
- 36:19Siri, Siri, world series. Nope. Not playing this game with you.
- 36:24I see what you're doing and I don't like it and I see where it's going and I refuse. Let's get to
- 36:35the next headline. DK Metcalf has no punishment. So do you remember what happened with DK? I do
- 36:41remember what happened DK Metcalf. So for anybody who doesn't remember, he kind of had, he had a
- 36:47physical altercation where he kind of put his hands on a fan and the stands in, this was in
- 36:52Detroit against the lions. And, um, it was the sec, it was, this was the second time he'd had
- 36:58this fan heckling him. There was a history, potentially racial slurs. Um, he had a first,
- 37:06the first time he'd reported it to the stadium, he'd said like, Hey, this like fans here pointed
- 37:11him out, harassing me, whatever. They did nothing about it. The lions did nothing about it. The NFL
- 37:14did nothing about it. Shows up again, game again. Uh, the video was caught of this guy, very clearly
- 37:19heckling DK. Um, and DK went up and had had enough, um, and just kind of grabbed the guy,
- 37:25uh, you know, and did the whole thing. Right. So in the video, you can tell the fan is absolutely
- 37:29psyched because he's, he's got DK where he wants them. And then immediately here come the charges
- 37:36and the lawsuits, right? So criminal charges were, there are none. He will not face them.
- 37:44Uh, the prosecutor's office said that, um,
- 37:50the fan did not appear to be injured, nor did he seek medical attention at the game. After an
- 37:53extensive review of the relevant evidence, the Wayne County prosecutor's office has determined
- 37:57that charges will not be issued in this case. This will very likely, I mean, they are going to
- 38:02continue with a civil lawsuit, which is probably what the fan wanted and wants money from DK.
- 38:06And in general, that's probably what this was always about. Um, but my question for you at this
- 38:13point, because I have a huge problem with people, um, and, and you can speak to only a small part
- 38:20of this, but at least more than your average, uh, white guy athlete, which is that I have a
- 38:24major problem with people asking athletes in any sort of minority group, but especially black
- 38:30athletes to just take, uh, certain types of abuse from fans. I don't, I think we allow a lot of
- 38:37weird abuse from fans of players as if they are owed the ability to say anything that they want
- 38:43to players on the field. It's a massive problem. Social media has only made it worse. I would go
- 38:49a step further. Uh, gambling legalization has made it immensely bad. Uh, and now I'll go a step
- 38:55further. All of the, uh, the prediction market world has made it immensely, immensely, immensely,
- 39:01immensely worse. Um, I can't stress enough that I would really like to get back to a time and I
- 39:06apologize for how I'm saying this, but a fuck around and find out you say your shit, you get
- 39:10your shit kicked in. I don't that fan. And like, listen, I normally would say I'm, I'm, I'm against
- 39:17violence that I don't know what the hell's going on here. Fans have gotten really emboldened in a
- 39:21way. One time is like one thing, but when, I mean, he keeps showing up and heckling DK in those spots
- 39:27and listen, I don't like that as much as you want to say like, Oh, get a thicker skin. I hear what
- 39:31you're saying, but also like, dude, like lines across that has never been like stopped or harassed
- 39:38or had certain things said to them. Right. Like, it's like, you know, a lot of, first of all, if,
- 39:44if you have never experienced any level of marginalization, definitely your voice just
- 39:48doesn't need to be here. Right. And you're a white guy, but you're also Jewish. And there
- 39:52is a part of your experience. That was really, yeah, that was incredibly right. Which is a wild
- 39:58because my last name is Decker. And for the most part, people don't know that I'm Jewish,
- 40:01but occasionally it happens. Oh boy. Oh boy. Especially when you're in say the Texas league.
- 40:06Oh, they love Jews over all, all over small parts of Texas. Right. And there's certain things that
- 40:11people can say to you that you're a human being that you're just like, I'm sorry. You being the
- 40:15millionaire on the football field or the triple-A baseball player on the diamond. It doesn't change
- 40:20the fact that someone just harassed you. Oh yeah. I remember I was in Frisco, Texas. I had a group
- 40:25of drunk frat boys calling me, me and Nate Fryman, a kike for an entire game to the point
- 40:31where like I got into it with them. Uh, like they were luckily removed from their seat, but it took
- 40:37like five innings. Uh, and that was a big problem for me. I went in their front office after the
- 40:41game and kind of yelled at them. Like that happened. I'll, I'll like, I'll go tweet about
- 40:44this. You guys like, or you guys can fucking do something about it. It was unbelievable. It was
- 40:49unbelievable. What the fuck are you talking about? Unbelievable. And they did apologize to me and
- 40:54they did get around there and they were all cool. But like at the time I was, well, you know what
- 40:58DK Metcalf got for his thing was a two game suspension. And so he appealed that suspension.
- 41:03So he suspended two games for this. Now he had gone. That's what always bothered me about this
- 41:07suspension was that he had gone to the league about this guy. You got one, one warning. Hey,
- 41:14you guys better get this guy out of here. He better not be here harassing me another day.
- 41:19Next time, next time he plays there two years later, a year later, whatever it was,
- 41:24he's back. I told you, you didn't care. You didn't care. All right. And so for the
- 41:28league to suspend him really bothered me. Um, I also, you know, a lot of people,
- 41:33when this all happened and I know this will absolutely drive you nuts. So I'm going to
- 41:37bring it up to you because I know it's going to piss you off as much as it pissed me off.
- 41:41And also all that happened, you know, I made a video about it and my thoughts about it and my
- 41:45thoughts about asking, uh, black players to absorb racial abuse from us, the stands as if
- 41:50it doesn't, you know, and well, I, a lot of people said, well, I mean, what would Jackie
- 41:57Robinson would have done? He would have, he wouldn't have gone into the stands.
- 42:02And I, I remember I must've read maybe four or five of those comments of like,
- 42:07Jackie Robinson wouldn't have done this. You have to have class. You have to have integrity,
- 42:10blah, blah, blah. Before I lost my fucking shit, made a whole video fully breaking down
- 42:17just how brutal it was for Jackie Robinson. It was on how he functioned, his manager,
- 42:24how he went to that team and his manager practiced putting him through racial abuse so that he could
- 42:30practice keeping his cool while having things thrown at him while having guys cleat him in the
- 42:36fucking ankles while having racial abuse from the fucking stands. They, he would yell N word slurs
- 42:41at him. And, and he was like, I'm sorry, but you have to get used to how this is going to sound
- 42:46because Jackie Robinson made a promise that if he went to the league, if they, if this was going to
- 42:50happen, that he would keep the peace because the other option was race riots. This was not a world
- 42:58where like, like the other option was that his life was on the line. He later on in his life
- 43:04admitted that like turning the other cheek rather than being the kind of person he was in real life,
- 43:09by the way, before all this, he was a fuck around and find out guy. He was not a peace at all costs
- 43:13guy. He was a piece of all costs guy in the MLB because he had no other choice. And he knew if he
- 43:18blew it, he blew it for the entire fucking Negro leagues for anybody who was ever going to any
- 43:23other black player. He knew it was all on him. And you know what it did? It fucking killed him.
- 43:27He, it like, it killed him. Like he was the internalized grief and anger that he lived with.
- 43:34He said like, this has made me sick. He died younger than he should have way younger way. And
- 43:40so when people, when I, when I hear about this stuff and I think that we are now, you know,
- 43:4650, 60 years removed from, we're not much better than we're right. And I think like, and you,
- 43:50and you're going to tell me DK Metcalf had, you know what Jackie Robinson would have fucking
- 43:55loved to have been able to do that. I promise you that he would not have been peace at all costs
- 43:59if he were still alive today, right now. I don't know, but I w I would assume it. No, no, he said
- 44:04that. Oh, absolutely. I believe you. I believe I've just never seen that quote, but I definitely
- 44:09believe there's a whole book. Um, and it's like really good. And I pulled this from like a,
- 44:12an article that was an in-depth thing of him where he legitimately was like, yeah, no, I,
- 44:19absolutely. If I could have, would it beat the shit out of those motherfuckers?
- 44:24Dude. And by the way, Jackie Robinson was a four sport athlete at UCLA letter winner in all of
- 44:29them. He was, he was, it was a Supreme athlete. And it's funny. It's like baseball was his like
- 44:34fourth best sport. That's the craziest thing about it. And he, and he was an okay Negro
- 44:38leagues player. That's the other thing in the Negro leagues. He was a run of the mill player.
- 44:42Pretty good. He was good, but he wasn't MVP. He goes into the, he goes right. And by the way,
- 44:47Shane Gillis, there's a great joke about that. It's a great, great joke where he's like last
- 44:52time white people were cool. And then Jackie Robinson came in. He's like, he's facing old
- 44:55Kelly. He's a 40 year old alcoholic and he's got his, he's got his good spit ball and here's the
- 45:01pitch. Oh, oh, oh shit. Okay. Then it's over. All right. Well, let's get away from that. And
- 45:10honestly, normally media corners a little more fun, but this one's not all that fun because
- 45:15Jesus Christ, corner number one, it's not good. You know, we, we, we have been,
- 45:21we have been relatively pretty big, especially you supporters of the Sanders family and all that
- 45:26they do until Shiloh Sanders decides to open his mouth and say the stupidest shit. Now I do
- 45:31disagree with Mary, Mary Kay cabinet and her assessment and her thought process.
- 45:35I'm thinking that you should just give him QB one. And of course I'm talking about the Sean
- 45:39Watson. She puts out a thing that he should be QB one, getting all the reps going right now,
- 45:43getting things going. Now I personally disagree with said assessment, but that is it. That's
- 45:48where it ends. I disagree with that assessment. I do not think he should be QB one Shiloh Sanders,
- 45:55however feels all the disrespect for his brother. And that's lovely. I appreciate you that you want
- 46:00to do something nice for your brother and defend your brother. But if your first thought is to say
- 46:06to Mary cake habit out loud, um, go make a sandwich, dude. Um, how you fucking lost the
- 46:15goddamn plot in a way that I'm assuming your brother had to have called you and be like,
- 46:20are you serious? I'm assuming your dad probably called you. I don't know because he doubled down
- 46:24that fucking really so that I haven't seen the double down. I'll, I'll, I'll go through the
- 46:28double down with you. So essentially what happened was she wrote this article. He says, go make a
- 46:33sandwich. Cause he's pissed that she's saying Deshaun Watson should be the starter. And here's
- 46:37the thing. Mary Kay Cabot is a beat writer, like an award-winning beat writer for the very well
- 46:42known. If you read Brown stuff, if you read national stuff, you've read Mary Kay Cabot,
- 46:47her reporting, whatever else do I think it's necessarily super appropriate as a beat reporter
- 46:55to decide that you, who you think should be the quarterback in OTAs. Not really that rubs me the
- 47:03wrong way. This is not the first time Mary Kay has written stuff that rubs me the wrong way.
- 47:06I will say on the other flip side of that, that's beat reporting in these, in all of these towns,
- 47:11there are beat reporters everywhere where I'm like, what is your deal here? They'll write stuff
- 47:16that I think is, is great. They'll break stories. They'll do the things. And then there's other
- 47:19times where I'm like, I don't know that you know, your role in this whole thing, this is not
- 47:22exclusive to her in any capacity. Having said that, that does not matter. It doesn't matter
- 47:28whether you think she should have said it, whether you think she should have written it. Um, there
- 47:33are critique her in literally any other way. You could literally critique her thought process.
- 47:38Why do you think this, by the way, you could just say, fuck you. You could, you could just say,
- 47:44I disagree, but go make a sandwich is that's, I don't know. Everybody has to know at this point
- 47:49that that's like the most played out thing to say to any woman in a male dominated industry.
- 47:53Like it's the most played out thing you could possibly say. And here's the thing is like Shiloh
- 47:59is should door has handled the media brilliantly. Like he has handled it so well. He has been so
- 48:06respectful. He's been smart. He's been, he's handled it so well. Even Dion has stepped back.
- 48:12He supports his son. He does what needs to be. He says what needs to be said when he feels like
- 48:16his son is being, you know, and he puts out a little thing on social media, but it's always
- 48:19about how proud he is of Shidor handling the critique and never an attack specifically on
- 48:23anybody. Um, so, so that's clearly what Shidor would prefer. Uh, so Shiloh, and I thought the
- 48:30same thing as you, I was like, they've got to tell him to shut up. Right? Nope. Doubles down. He's,
- 48:34he goes, she defends herself. And he basically said, you know, uh, if you're going to be a
- 48:41reporter, be a reporter and report facts, whenever you have your opinion and your opinion is always
- 48:45something hateful to Shidor, then it makes it seem like it's something weird. Like it's an agenda
- 48:49going on. Now he went on about this for minutes at a time. So now he's made Shidor an even bigger
- 48:55lightning rod, which he didn't fucking need. Sexism enters the chat. And this is what I hate
- 49:02on both sides. Shiloh fell into a trap set by like the level of frustration of dealing with this kind
- 49:08of reporting time and time again, he fell into that trap and he let sexism win the day. He should,
- 49:14he should not have done that on the flip side. Mary Kay has fallen into this trap,
- 49:19which I think is a really huge issue with beat reporting, which is to start playing this game
- 49:24of editorializing, giving your opinion, editorializing. Are you a columnist with
- 49:30media access where you're talking to play? Because, because there are a lot of columnists
- 49:34who people don't even realize aren't beat reporters because they're there. They're in
- 49:37the press conferences. They're there maybe at practices, but they are not technically a
- 49:42reporter. They are there to editorialize and there can be some back and forth a little bit.
- 49:48But when you're in OTAs and you've declared who you think should not who will, it's one thing to
- 49:54say, I think Sean Watson is going to win the job. It's another thing to say to Sean Watson should
- 49:58get the job. I'm not a huge fan of this. I'm agreeing with you on this. There is a gray area
- 50:03here. Now I'm not, I'm not necessarily up in arms about it because I understand the gray.
- 50:08But I would understand. And so I get why Shiloh was annoyed by that. I do too. There,
- 50:12I just do not that response. He lost the argument out of the gate immediately. Like you completely
- 50:17did. You could have absolutely made a real case on what this, and by the way, the person who's
- 50:21hurt the door the most now is you. No question. Because now she door has to deal with your
- 50:26fucking. And by the way, make no mistake in a couple of months, we're going to somehow not us,
- 50:30not me and you, but people are going to start remembering this differently. They're going to
- 50:34start remembering Chador being in the one that says this, and he's going to somehow be tagged
- 50:39with this line that he had nothing to do with, which he had nothing to do with. And like,
- 50:42now he's going to have to either damage control that behind the scenes or whatever else. And the
- 50:45fact of the matter is, um, it reveals yet again, the fact that Shiloh went at Mary Kay specifically,
- 50:53because this is not new. No, no, no, no. There are other people. She is the only one who has
- 50:58said Chador that just Sean looks better in OTAs. Does Sean might be the one who should start?
- 51:04This is a conversation that's being had on sports radio among everybody else, whatever else. So he
- 51:09went to Mary Kay. This is another, it's like she, I just told you every single city has reporters,
- 51:17several who play this game of a little bit of editorializing, a little bit of reporting,
- 51:23a little bit of this, a little bit of that, who don't quite know what or draw the line. And that's,
- 51:26I actually don't have the biggest problem. It's kind of the industry right now. So that's,
- 51:31so just, why are we, why is it in this specific situation? Your issue, by the way,
- 51:37Chador has been dealing with this for over a calendar year. It goes to Mary Kay. I know
- 51:42she has a vagina and that's, that's a huge problem. Well, I mean, I've always thought
- 51:47that they were pretty useful. The vaginas, they can be, they can, they certainly can be,
- 51:53they serve a lot more, they serve more purposes than anything on my body. I know that.
- 51:59Holy shit. Yeah. It's quite wild. It's just another, it's like, oh my God, of course,
- 52:05of course the day you decided to pop off, because it's funny. Cause Chador, when he
- 52:09went to Tony grossie, do you remember this? He went to Tony grossie and like,
- 52:12like after a game was like, Hey man, like, what do you, why do you always have,
- 52:16why are you always so negative with me? Like, what's your problem with me? And like, just
- 52:20calmly went to him and said that. And like, uh, kind of like in this almost like charming way
- 52:25that through grossie off a little bit. It's funny. Cause like since then I've seen a little bit of a
- 52:29change in the way he's talked about Chador. It's not completely different, but it is,
- 52:32there has been a little bit of a shift. Chador handles his shit perfectly fine. Is it fair?
- 52:38No. Do I understand why you're defensive of him? Yes. If my sister were going through this,
- 52:43the shit that they put him through, I would be furious, but you absolutely cannot do this.
- 52:49And it's so frustrating when it's always like, of course, of course you came at the woman right
- 52:56out the gate. And you know what, Cody, I will say this. If you're going to do a sexist insult,
- 53:01you got to come in hot. Give me something new. Give me something fresh. Give me something good.
- 53:07Yeah. I want to see some shit I've never seen before. I want to see something that I'm like,
- 53:11yeah, you can't be dropping Howard Stern lines from 1984. You absolutely cannot.
- 53:15I'm so. It's beneath us. I have been doing this for so long and I keep waiting for a new sexist
- 53:21insult that's fresh and innovative. Well, I don't know if you know this, Tanya, in the 1950s,
- 53:26the housewife was the standard of American living and certain men really want that world to come
- 53:32back. And that's the joke. Yeah. And they used to give us benzos for our troubles. Hold on. That's
- 53:39the joke. See how great it is. Brilliant stuff. Amazing how we've really come full circle.
- 53:44Also, it reminds me of something because, you know, it's so funny because reporters who are
- 53:48trying to make a name for themselves when it comes to or people in the industry make a name
- 53:51themselves trying to just shit on other people. And, you know, they always they truly forget that
- 53:56there is real lives on the other side of that. And it reminded me of a major league. I won't say
- 54:00who it is. A good friend of mine who is a star major leaguer gave me a call once when I started
- 54:03working at Bad Dog Radio and serious. He's just like, hey, I'm dude, seriously, can you do me a
- 54:07favor? I'm like, yes. Could you ask Chris Russo what what his fucking problem is with me? And I
- 54:14did ask him because I heard him do another thing, say something negative. I'm like, what the fuck?
- 54:17And I'm like, what is your problem? And I because he's a friend of mine and he's also a great dude
- 54:21universally loved. And I just like, what's your problem with this guy? And his response was
- 54:25something along the lines of that. And so I don't really know what his problem was. You never got
- 54:29it. You never got it. No, that's what he said. I just don't understand a word that comes out of
- 54:33that man's mouth. Well, that's how he talks. Yeah, that's literally how he talks in real life.
- 54:38It's quite fun. It's amazing. He has listeners. Anyways, let's go over to another thing,
- 54:43because Stu Gatz, who is a good friend of Diana Rossini in this story that seemingly doesn't want
- 54:47to completely end, but luckily, seemingly is coming to its final. This is actually a different
- 54:52I will say this is a different angle on the conversation. Well, it got reworked earlier
- 54:56this week, obviously, because of the Spotify playlist that came out. And obviously, we're
- 55:00going to make fun of that as you should. But that being said, Stu Gatz, who has been a very staunch
- 55:06defender of her as if we had a hard guy. And he's also made it clear that he'll try to hire her if
- 55:14he gets the opportunity to do so. But he has been asked and he goes on a very long tangent, not
- 55:19tangent, but a very fair tangent on why his first explanation of why he hasn't spoken specifically
- 55:25about this whole sub. And and his reasoning by it is very simple. She is a friend. They have
- 55:31spoken on the phone. They have had detailed conversations. And it's not his as a friend
- 55:36of this person. It's not his job to go out and spew what a personal friend going through a
- 55:41personal life crisis to the people. That being said, also, Stu Gatz freely admits into this. He
- 55:47is also not a journalist. And why is he being held at a journalistic standard that we simply don't
- 55:52hold any journalists at all? I'd also like to reiterate that. Why are we holding fucking Diana
- 55:57Rossini to a journalistic standard that we have literally not held any journalists to at all in
- 56:03this entire country, whether it's sports or fucking life? I'll never get it. I'll never get it. By the
- 56:09way, it never makes sense to me. You know how I kept talking about the Adam Schefter story when
- 56:13we were going through all this, the Adam Schefter email with the yes. Daddy, would you like to go
- 56:18ahead and put an edit to my story, daddy? You know, that was the exact same CBA negotiation
- 56:24and during which they were colluding against the players that Demora Smith just talked about. So
- 56:29just a little side note. Oh, but, but AJ Brown wants to be a patriot. So yeah, everybody's
- 56:35fucking here's the thing that I'm really confused about is there's so many people in the general
- 56:41public, people in, in, in who aren't in sports media, who are talking about this, who want
- 56:47everybody to be bloodthirsty toward Diana Rossini for, by the way,
- 56:51fucking somebody else's husband while she was married. I don't care again. Um, I still don't
- 56:56care. Also the, in the real world, when people have real friends who have been like, he talks
- 57:04about how they have been incredible friends to each other. She has been an incredible friend to
- 57:08him. She he's feel he's felt supported by her. This is a person he loves and cares about. He
- 57:13said, what's funny is people are holding me to a standard that quite simply they've never held me
- 57:16to. I'm the core gesture of sports radio for the last 20 years. And suddenly you have some sort of
- 57:20journalistic expectation for me. He said, this part was really fucking funny. He said,
- 57:25journalism died. The day Michael Wilbon was covering the Cubs wearing a Cubs jersey. I'm
- 57:29sorry. It was really great. Um, but the thing is even if he were a journalist and here's where
- 57:34I think things get tricky, how does a journalist who is very close friends with Diana Rossini
- 57:42cover that objectively? You can't. So why do people keep asking for it? Because you know,
- 57:46what happens if somebody comes out, if he comes out and he says, I actually think Diana's great.
- 57:49And I think she's innocent. You're not objective. Yeah. Well, that's why I didn't fucking say
- 57:53anything gang, by the way, by the way, just by the way, him not saying anything about it
- 57:58might be the most journalistic integrity thing. He's fucking done. This is my friend. You're not
- 58:03going to hear me unbiased. And so he's don't seem to understand the idea that like, like, I know you
- 58:09guys think that, that journalism means you don't form real relationships, I guess, but you fucking
- 58:15do. You form real relationships with the people you cover. You form real relationships with your
- 58:19sources. You form a really real relationships with other journalists because we're all human
- 58:23beings making a goddamn connection. And the fact of the matter is what people really fail to
- 58:28fucking take into consideration is that a lot of times this is, they are more your coworkers than
- 58:32anybody on the planet that journalism in and of itself can be a lonely space.
- 58:38If you only ever consider that, like everybody around you could like report back on you. Like
- 58:44there has to be a level of trust and you can't build trust without building relationships.
- 58:47There is zero reason why you should expect people's friends to turn their backs on them.
- 58:53I don't care if she's accused of murder. Stu gots has no fucking responsibility to come out and say
- 58:59about her to anybody, let alone something. That's not even a crime. Yes. What the way people act
- 59:07like this, like she committed a crime and this motherfucker, like this was by far, I think the
- 59:12most integrity you could have handled it with. And there's a reason that you're not hearing from a
- 59:16lot of journalists, like who would have worked alongside her about this because guess what?
- 59:20Everyone liked Diana. I know you guys didn't because she reported shitty stuff about AJ Brown.
- 59:26Oh no. Like she's colluding with my rebel about, I don't fucking care. No, no, real quick. It's
- 59:32pretty baffling. Oh my God. A wide receiver in the NFL is arrogant and wants out of their
- 59:39situation because they don't get enough touches. This is the most unique and groundbreaking story
- 59:46I've ever heard in my life, except every receiver on any team in the last 40 fucking years,
- 59:54my God exhausted, rabble started a rumor that he, a player who played for him might want to
- 59:59play for him again. It's really, I just think that there's a huge, really fascinating thing
- 1:00:04that had like some there's, there's no winning the fans get bloodthirsty and they want you to
- 1:00:11turn on your friends. But if you do turn on your friends, they call you a fucking traitor. They
- 1:00:16call you, they say you're, you're, you're biased. They, you know, whatever, there's no winning in
- 1:00:20the court of public opinion when stuff like this happens. And I think like, if, if I ever,
- 1:00:27if I ever did something that got me sort of publicly canceled and you got on this mic and
- 1:00:32we're like, well, I've got to talk about Tanya. I'd be like, honestly, what the fuck? I would
- 1:00:37never talk to you again. Like, I would never, I'd be like, why would you do that? I wouldn't go out
- 1:00:43and be like, well, I know I got a shit. I got to talk to all my shit. My response is she's going
- 1:00:47through a thing. She's my friend. I care about her. Um, and because she's my friend, even if she
- 1:00:53did say you did something that I firmly disagree, I can't be like, even though I, even if I disagree
- 1:00:58and maybe I'll even throw it and I do disagree, but it doesn't matter. She's my friend. This is
- 1:01:02not, and I cannot, I can't honestly give you a truly real opinion on it because I'm involved
- 1:01:08when there there's the old saying. And in fact, it was one of my favorite arrested development
- 1:01:12jokes that they did because, uh, there was a, a very famous, uh, Los Angeles broad, uh,
- 1:01:16Fox news broadcaster, uh, for Fox 11 news, I should say local broadcaster named Tom Beard.
- 1:01:22So Tom Beard was in the show a lot, a rest of developments. And he was every time he was in
- 1:01:27the show, like there was a thing that happened at a restaurant that he was at. Tom Beard immediately
- 1:01:31gets up from his table. He's at a different table. He's just like, he's like frantically can't be part
- 1:01:36of the story. Can't be part of the story. Can't be part of the story. And he runs out of the
- 1:01:39restaurant. It's fucking hilarious. Once you're a part of the story and you have your
- 1:01:45assemblance of your fingerprints or DNA on the story, you can't really report on the story.
- 1:01:50No. And fairly at least. And if it is something that is unavoidable, where you do have to sort
- 1:01:55of like wade into the waters of something where you're unbiased, it should be over something that
- 1:02:00genuinely can't go on reported, right? Like if you had a personal relationship as a source,
- 1:02:06like let's say you were a friend of Aaron Hernandez, right? And you're in the media and
- 1:02:10you're like, whatever this, I've got to talk about this now. That's because there's a double murder.
- 1:02:15That's a different, that's going to be honest. There's some stuff there that actually needs to
- 1:02:19be discussed. You reveal your, your potential conflict of interest, and then you do your
- 1:02:23best to do somebody cheating on their spouse is simply not that I don't say it's not criminal
- 1:02:29behavior. Even if she was colluding for NFL information, none of it rises to the level of,
- 1:02:35can you please like discuss your friend's life on, on your show? So I just think that that's
- 1:02:41like something that's like, I think it's a by-product, especially of social media.
- 1:02:45We all get very parasocial and the parasocial idea of how, because people are kind of obsessed
- 1:02:51with the fact that Stu Gatz is friends with Diana that, you know, Mina's friends with all
- 1:02:55these people on, on TV that like, you know, who's Katie Nolan friends with who's the,
- 1:02:59the women in, in these spaces and whose shows they're on and who they are close to.
- 1:03:04There becomes a parasocial thing for the men who are always clocking it to make sure that the women
- 1:03:09know what they're talking about. And for the women who are like parasocial as like friends,
- 1:03:14like, you know, the men in this industry, they don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
- 1:03:18I, I like respect like five people in this entire industry, like five, that's it. And
- 1:03:25every one of the people you love to watch, they're a fucking idiot and don't actually
- 1:03:29know anything. Yeah. They have no background. They, they, they, they probably went to Syracuse.
- 1:03:34Everyone at Syracuse gets fucking hired for some reason. Syracuse in Northwest, Northeastern,
- 1:03:38Northwestern. Yeah. And sometimes Penn state for some reason, Arizona state. Yeah. Well,
- 1:03:43fucking every, anybody can get an Arizona state. Jesus. No, not there. Not the Cronkite school.
- 1:03:48Okay. It's Arizona state. Hate to break it to you, but hate to break it. Hate to break it.
- 1:03:53Sorry, UCLA. I sneezed. They have a, they have a better journalism school in UCLA.
- 1:03:58UCLA slowed down the number one school in the entire world. And yes, that is the most admissions
- 1:04:03at any school on planet earth year in year out. I believe that's 40, 35 years running most
- 1:04:08admissions. No, I'm sorry. Most applications. I apologize. I was like, sorry, least admissions.
- 1:04:14I should say, no, there's no way. Yeah. Most, most applications of any school in the world.
- 1:04:17Every single year, you're saying their admission rate is lower than Harvard.
- 1:04:21It depends. We get more applicants, so we have to turn more people away.
- 1:04:24Oh, I'll be the judge of that. Worldwide too. I'll be the judge of that when I Google it.
- 1:04:29Worldwide too. I will say that's great. And I love that. But Arizona state's
- 1:04:32journalism school is better. That's adorable. Arizona state, adorable. It's better. Adorable.
- 1:04:35Sorry. Sun devils Tempe. There's one thing that Arizona state usually leads the, well,
- 1:04:41usually would lead the PAC 10 at least. I can't say this because I know Santa Barbara is also
- 1:04:45quite notorious, but STD rates pretty high in Arizona state. Yeah. These are factual.
- 1:04:50Listen, and the fake boobs rate. That's just an Arizona thing. I don't blame specifically Arizona
- 1:04:56state for that one. That's a, that's an Arizona state thing. Cause it's not so much in, in Tucson.
- 1:05:02No, it's not. You're right. It's more of a Phoenix thing. Cause I I'll give you an example. I had a
- 1:05:05teammate that grew up in Scottsdale. I played with me at UCLA. And he said, he's, he, I've
- 1:05:08stolen it. I've said it so many times because this is exactly how I feel about Scottsdale
- 1:05:12and all those areas in Phoenix. Cause he's I'm like, Hey, someone was like growing up in Scottsdale.
- 1:05:17He's like, Oh, more $35,000 millionaires in Scottsdale than any place on planet fucking earth.
- 1:05:26He's like, it's the worst. He's like, it's the worst. I'm like, you're right. You go to a bar.
- 1:05:30Every dude thinks they're sponsored by tap out and all this fucking, Oh, I have, it's like a,
- 1:05:36it's like a Vaughn Dutch commercial. I will say the, the people watching at a Scottsdale bar,
- 1:05:40if you're having fun with it. Oh yeah. Oh, it is so fun. Every single person there is the
- 1:05:46most self-important person. They think they're the main character. And you know what? I'm like,
- 1:05:49I'm going to make you the main character in my story right now. Cause I'm going to watch you.
- 1:05:52And it's, it's great. There's no better place to people watch than Scottsdale, Arizona. If you're
- 1:05:56stuck in that hell hole, go do it. I will freely. I know people love them. Some Phoenix and Scottsdale,
- 1:06:02but I want you to know why my question is why I hate that.
- 1:06:10Just know if you ever, if we ever end up there, if this podcast ever ends up on tour and we end up
- 1:06:14there, just know we are there under duress. Yeah, dude. I'm I'm, I, I protested harshly
- 1:06:20to drive through straight to Tucson. I want to go two hours. I want to go two hours further to
- 1:06:25Tucson. That's what I wanted. We want to go to the more inconvenient place to get to. By the way,
- 1:06:29every time you go to Tucson from LA, you have to take like the world's smallest plane. Not great.
- 1:06:36Here was the worst part. When I played in Tucson, the amount of connectors I had to get
- 1:06:41into Phoenix was frustrating. It was like a 20 minute tiny puddle jumper to Phoenix to then
- 1:06:48fly to Salt Lake city. Oh, I hate it so much. All right. Let's get away from all of this. Go
- 1:06:53over to pop culture corner because Tanya, uh, congratulations. Welcome to the year 2003. Yeah.
- 1:07:00Apparently you're finally watching the wire. So this has been like an ongoing thing. I was Baltimore,
- 1:07:04baby. Yeah. Baltimore. Um, I, it's sort of one of the, you know, when you have a blind spot
- 1:07:09happening in your life for so long that you almost get like anxiety about even doing it.
- 1:07:13So you never started. I never watched the wire when it was happening. And then there was like
- 1:07:17a whole rewatch time during COVID and it never happened. And after that, I was almost like,
- 1:07:23like I started to become sort of a person who was like, I talked so much about sports. I talked so
- 1:07:27much about, especially since Lamar Jackson got really good. Like I built a huge Baltimore
- 1:07:32following on all my social media. And I was like, I started to get a little bit insecure and
- 1:07:36embarrassed about the fact that like, I hadn't watched the wire. And part of it, part of it was
- 1:07:40that I knew all the cultural references of the main characters and things like that. You know,
- 1:07:44when you don't watch the show, but you know enough about like, it's like a lot of people
- 1:07:47know game of Thrones stuff, but they never watched it. That's how I felt. I know who Omar and I knew
- 1:07:52who Avon and I knew who stringer were because of like, you know, even Wallace, like, because of
- 1:07:57the famous actors, whatever else. Right. And so I knew all of that and I knew the memes. And so I,
- 1:08:04I just, I just kept escaping me. And one day I was like, I need to watch the fucking, I can't
- 1:08:08be in the world and not have watched the wire. Like I've watched every other most important
- 1:08:11show of my lifetime. Like now I'm, I like got annoyed with myself. So I decided, uh, I, I,
- 1:08:16I literally came out of the bathroom, like one night and I was like, Chris, it's time to watch
- 1:08:19the wire. He probably put his hands up. He literally, he literally was like, are you serious?
- 1:08:28Cause he, he's been waiting for this moment. Like he's been like, when are we going to watch
- 1:08:31the wire? And part of the reason I've avoided it is because I'm incredibly sensitive. Like I cry
- 1:08:38at everything. I cried everything. And I watched it. I'll cry at stuff. It is what it is. But like,
- 1:08:43I am so sensitive and the older I get, the worse it gets. So I avoid stuff that I know is going to
- 1:08:48make me emotional. And Chris was fair to me. He was like, it's not going to be an easy watch.
- 1:08:53I'm telling you the wire I thought was the first show that I want. Nah, you know, that's not true.
- 1:08:57I think Oz did this first and which was also, I can't, I can't, I feel like there are similar
- 1:09:03S you know, different stories, but a similar aesthetic as far as difficult, difficulty to
- 1:09:09watch. Um, but I, yeah, but I, I always thought cause I got more into the wire that I did Oz
- 1:09:14cause Oz was before the wire and I was a little younger and Oz is super violent. So often. Yeah.
- 1:09:20Um, but it was wire was the first show that I watched as a, as a viewer where I'm like,
- 1:09:27no one on this show is safe. Anyone will just be shot in like a main character.
- 1:09:33Because I hadn't watched it. I wouldn't have prepared for game of Thrones. Why the wire
- 1:09:36people would have been prepared for game of Thrones. I was, I was not so red wedding.
- 1:09:42Did a lot to you. Yeah. Uh, even Ned Stark hadn't got, right. So I'm through a song. I'm, um, I
- 1:09:48think I'm on episode eight of season two. So I'm almost, you know, I'm like two thirds of the way
- 1:09:51through season two. And I went, you know, I went through the Wallace thing. I went through it. And
- 1:09:56so I finally, I, I went to thrives and I was like, guys, I'm halfway through season two.
- 1:10:00And I'm pretty sure D'Angelo is about to get got, and I am not good. And of course, like everybody's
- 1:10:07pumped. They're like, you're finally watching the wire. And everybody was really, really awesome
- 1:10:11about it. Um, like a lot of people were commenting on it, Jamel Hill, who like she, I, she did a
- 1:10:16wire rewatch podcast with Van. She was like, we're here for you, girl. Like, you know, um,
- 1:10:22and the fact of the matter is this show is driving me nuts because I know, I know enough to know that
- 1:10:28it's going to keep breaking my heart. So I don't have the, like, I don't have to binge. It's hard
- 1:10:34to binge an episode a night episode a night. Well, cause like, I really don't have time for more than
- 1:10:39that, but like, um, I still haven't watched the latest episode of daredevil. I'm desperate. It's
- 1:10:44brutal. But like, so we're, we're, we've been watching about an episode a night and, um,
- 1:10:49and I knew, I knew D I knew D was getting got, I really liked D as a character and I was getting
- 1:10:55more and more invested in him. I would go back and forth with him on season one. Cause he made
- 1:10:58some stupid decisions, but when he like the, like what happened to the boy, when he's talking about
- 1:11:04Wallace to stringer bell is like, all these moments were really big to me. And I was like,
- 1:11:09this is like, I can see why this is so difficult. And so I, I post, I'm like,
- 1:11:15all he wanted to do. I post the, um, the gift of, of the rock kicking everything over in the
- 1:11:20locker room that like really famous gift. And like, all he wanted to do was work at the library
- 1:11:25and be out of the game. And everybody was like, if you think this is bad, you are so fucked.
- 1:11:30Yeah. This is a few little things. It's been a real rough watch for it. I was like,
- 1:11:35the thing is I it's so crazy. Cause as of right now, I don't have a ton of characters that I like,
- 1:11:42that I'm like would be sad if they died as of right now, right now, like what I, who I really
- 1:11:47care about our bubbles. Cause I mean, D I cared about, you know, and obviously Wallace or whatever,
- 1:11:52um, like Bodian put can like literally die tomorrow. And I don't give a fuck. Um, none of
- 1:11:58the cops, I don't give a fuck, um, except for Jimmy, but I like if Jimmy's not going to die
- 1:12:03anytime soon. Um, but like, I don't care about any of these people, but I know that's coming.
- 1:12:10I know, I know that's coming. It does. I care. Like I care about them in terms of being interested
- 1:12:15in the storyline, but like, but if something happens to bubbles, I'm calling out sick.
- 1:12:22If I watch it before, I'm just not coming in to the show. I don't watch it before the show. I'm
- 1:12:26not, well, I'm just telling you, I don't know what my schedule can hold. And if bubs dies and
- 1:12:32I'm, and I have to come in, I'm not doing it. I get it. I get it. Okay. We will talk about it when
- 1:12:37it comes up or if it comes up, I don't want to tell you anything. I will tell you love him.
- 1:12:41Here's the thing. Um, what show has affected you more than any other show? Would you say
- 1:12:45like emotionally? Um, like what show is like really kind of gotten that like stuck in my gut
- 1:12:52there? There, there are, um, there is a show. It is my favorite show, but I mean this from the
- 1:12:58bottom of your heart. It, there are episodes of the show that are so bad and unwatchable
- 1:13:03that like could easily make somebody like rage, which the show, but the shows of episodes that
- 1:13:09are so that are good, that are so good are so good that it mainly makes me forgive those bad
- 1:13:16episodes. Did you watch the whole show? Oh yeah. I've watched every episode of this show.
- 1:13:20Uh, I mean, wait, hold on. Can I guess? Yes. Is it a shield? It is not. Oh, the shield was also
- 1:13:26another shield. The shield's a great show. Okay. But man, like the shield, especially the last
- 1:13:32season, it really becomes a top watch because the last season they, they actually lay it all out for
- 1:13:37you. You're still rooting for Vic Mackie. Okay. We're going to fix this right now. And they lay
- 1:13:42out everything that he's done. And you just realize that as they compile the things that
- 1:13:45he's done for the last seven seasons, you're like, Holy shit, this is the worst man alive.
- 1:13:50Oh, and it's such a great, it's a great ending too. Um, but what were you saying? So it's not
- 1:13:55the shield, not the shield. Although I shield is a top 20 show of all time. Okay. What do you got?
- 1:14:01Dr. Who haven't watched. So here's the thing. Okay. If you were to start watching Dr. Who,
- 1:14:07now this is a show that's been around since I know all about the, all the doctors. So here's
- 1:14:11where this is how you start the show. It's very simple. You either start with one particular
- 1:14:15episode to see if you would like the vibe, because this is why I liked the show. I would
- 1:14:18like Dr. Who. I already know I would because you'll one week you'll have a sci-fi. I just
- 1:14:23binged broad church. Of course I would like Dr. I love British shit. Okay. But, and, and you'll,
- 1:14:28the first one episode might be a sci-fi adventure with some janky special effects, especially
- 1:14:33it's got a lot better. It's time's gone. Yeah, of course. Next episode might be just a show,
- 1:14:37an episode in a church where the doctors, this is very black mirror where you get horror episode
- 1:14:43next step. And it can be actually scary next one. And like what I'm telling you,
- 1:14:49each actor that plays the doctor brings something just completely new to it.
- 1:14:52Favorite doctor. Oh boy. So everyone always mentions two. Um, if you're a real old school
- 1:14:58fan, they'll, they'll, they'll probably say the fourth doctor. And who's that?
- 1:15:03It is, uh, Patrick Troutman. Okay. So it's not David Tennant. No, no, no. David Tennant
- 1:15:09is most people's answer. It is most people. David Tennant plays the 10th doctor and the 14th
- 1:15:16doctor. Oh yes. Because there was a, I know about this. And it was phenomenal. I remember watching,
- 1:15:21he was with the, the doctor, the, uh, Matt, what's his name? Matt Smith came after him,
- 1:15:27but they did. They came. That was a different thing. That was a completely different thing.
- 1:15:30Yeah. Okay. I might have to show you a doctor. Okay. So actually, so the, when the show gets
- 1:15:35rebooted in 2005, instead of when I say rebooted, it wasn't an actual, it was, it was a continuation.
- 1:15:41It was a sequel, but what they did, how they handled it, I thought was really smart. They
- 1:15:44basically spoon fed you the previous 30, 40 years of, of continuity episode to episode to episode.
- 1:15:50It's kind of giving you a real fresh, and Christopher Eccleston played the role and
- 1:15:54Christopher Eccleston was very good in the role, but he only is in the first season. So his exit
- 1:15:59is actually quite jarring. And then to enter David Tennant, this young, handsome, suave,
- 1:16:06very charismatic at young actor who is, who just charms the living fucking pants out of everybody
- 1:16:13in the world. He's phenomenal in this for like four seasons. It's great stuff. Then Matt Smith
- 1:16:18comes in a youthful, different type of energy and everyone fucking loves it. And the show hits new
- 1:16:24Heights. Then my favorite comes in Peter Capaldi as the doctor. Oh, I know who Peter is so good.
- 1:16:32Yeah. I don't know what to tell you because I just got 10 years of like youthful young doctors
- 1:16:38and now I get this grumpier older guy. Was it, was it Jody? What's your name? Jody Whitaker,
- 1:16:43who was very good, but you know what sucked? She was failed by the writing. The writing was a,
- 1:16:48it was a lackluster couple of seasons for her. I don't know. And also same thing happened to
- 1:16:53the next doctor who was shooty Gatwa, who is so fucking charming and I was loving him as the
- 1:16:58doctor failed by the writing a little bit. He should have had a lot more good stuff, but Peter
- 1:17:02Capaldi. So you think that show there's like emotionally gets like, it's there's episodes
- 1:17:08that there is an episode that where the first 40 minutes of the episode is not great, but the final
- 1:17:1415 is so good. And so heart wrenching. When I say that, like it's David Tennant's final 15 minutes
- 1:17:22as the doctor, when I say how it happens and what's happened, fucking just rips your goddamn
- 1:17:29chest out. I could understand when it reveals that Matt Smith is now here. You're like, no,
- 1:17:34fuck this guy. I don't give a, this ain't my doctor. I want my doctor back. And then you
- 1:17:40fall in love with Matt Smith very fast because he's fantastic. Yeah. Like I,
- 1:17:44a lot of times when I'm that emotional about a show, it's generally because I have like some
- 1:17:49people going on Instagram, uh, uh, Eccleston doctor who is perfect start. I agree. Eccleston's
- 1:17:56doctor who is a perfect way to start. Capaldi is probably this person's number two. Oh, all right.
- 1:18:00Which tells me it's probably David Tennant, which by the way, I would like David Tennant to return
- 1:18:05to the role full time. I mean, there's certain, there's certain people who are made for certain
- 1:18:09roles and he is a perfect, if I had my way, honestly, God, I would honestly bring back an
- 1:18:14old doctor and it would either be dead tenant, even though I know we get tended back a lot
- 1:18:19or bring back Matt Smith, bring back one of those two. He's busy doing dragons. Peter Capaldi ain't
- 1:18:23coming back. Yeah. I know that for a fact. I know Peter Capaldi has not been quiet. We don't know
- 1:18:28things anymore. He can't do it full time. He's he's getting, he is getting, he like, listen,
- 1:18:32no, no. Peter called the poly was the older doctor. He is looking, he's looking at older,
- 1:18:37older, older. I, I have found. So like there are a lot of shows where I think that they are,
- 1:18:43they have those moments for me. You know, my favorite show, one of my favorite shows of all
- 1:18:46time is lost and there are certainly like one of my, like some of my favorite moments in television
- 1:18:52are lost, but there's one show that I watched that because so I have a lifelong, like, or at
- 1:18:58least an adulthood long obsession with wrongful convictions and just a general disdain for like
- 1:19:06the carceral system. I'm basically a prison abolitionist. And that's like something that's
- 1:19:11a much deeper conversation to have. I'm, I'm anti death penalty. So like I have a really
- 1:19:17difficult, and I have all those thoughts about it, but there, but part of it is because I have
- 1:19:21spent like, it's, there's been a niche interest of mine and really learning just how brutal
- 1:19:26it, the system is and how, what wrongful convictions and what we do to people who
- 1:19:30are rightfully convicted. I mean, when, anytime you watch a prison show, it gives you a lot of
- 1:19:34infirm, like a sense of like real empathy for, for humanity that gets
- 1:19:39stripped from you in prison. And so I have anything that's a prison thing,
- 1:19:42which is why I can't watch Oz. But Rectify is a show that I watched one time. It was the
- 1:19:49greatest show I'd ever watched. It was like so moving and so well acted and so brutal and so
- 1:19:53difficult. And I never will watch it again because it was so upsetting and so beautifully acted and
- 1:19:59so like touching and so fucking hard for me to watch that I'll never watch it again.
- 1:20:05And also it was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. And it was not a critically like,
- 1:20:09it was a very critically acclaimed show. It was one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the
- 1:20:13decade, but it wasn't highly watched. And if you've ever want, like, if you ever need a show
- 1:20:18that's like, I think it's three seasons that is just like start to finish a like beautifully told
- 1:20:23story, that's a show, but it is fucking brutal for anybody who like is a deeply empathetic person.
- 1:20:31Um, listen, guys, it's been a fun show. We got a lot. We had a lot to talk about. Because we went
- 1:20:37over, we didn't get to the bloody sock, but we'll get to that on Tuesday. And listen,
- 1:20:43can we make a can we make a truce? If the Celtics and the Bruins are both out of the playoffs by
- 1:20:47Tuesday? Can we leave the bloody sock out of it? Yeah, we'll just pretend Boston doesn't exist.
- 1:20:52Can we pretend Boston doesn't exist? There is there is no New England. There's only an old
- 1:20:58England. And that's, you know what I'm just realizing in the wide shot? Yeah, you were lit
- 1:21:02quite well in the wide shot. That's the glasses. Is that what it is? It's a meeting? Yeah, it's a
- 1:21:08pop. We're gonna keep working. It's my hair extensions. We're gonna keep working on this.
- 1:21:11I might get a stage director in here on the lighting. But regardless, um, we're gonna skip
- 1:21:16the bloody sock, at least we are absolutely gonna skip it. Well, it depends on what happens to your
- 1:21:20teams. But yes, yeah, if, if, if, if, if the nuclear option happens, it happens. And Boston
- 1:21:26is out of the playoffs across the board Tuesday. I give you my word, but I do not give you my word
- 1:21:30that I will not say at the end of the show. Fuck you, Curt Schilling. Fuck you, Curt Schilling
- 1:21:35forever. For the regular. Come on so close.
