Latest / The Follow-On / Domesticated - Nathan McSweeney's double ton & Sam Konstas cooks again
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: While Australia were going two nil up in the ashes,
- 0:02Speaker 1: there were plenty of players around the country putting their
- 0:04Speaker 1: hand up for national selection conversations. Welcome to Domesticated. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: justin Edwards Fox Crickets. Nick Savage joins me.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Nick.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We've had the first two Tests, Australia are two nil
- 0:15Speaker 1: up and they've also they've just named a fifteen man
- 0:17Speaker 1: squad for the third Test. Pat Comers coming back in.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Yeah, not too many surprises in that squad. Basically the
- 0:22Speaker 3: same team. Commers is already with the squad in Brisbane anyway,
- 0:25Speaker 3: so I love the consistency. You know, two up, no
- 0:28Speaker 3: need to make any Rash changes, although they probably will
- 0:30Speaker 3: be a couple changes. Lion will heavily come back in.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Hopefully Commons will be injected. Kauwaja might be available. That's
- 0:36Speaker 3: a whole other story, but it's going pretty swimmingly for
- 0:38Speaker 3: Australia so far.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Does feel like in that batting lineup the only way
- 0:42Speaker 1: somebody outside of that squad could get in is if
- 0:45Speaker 1: they moved head back to the middle order and decided
- 0:49Speaker 1: that they were done with Kuwaja. Is that the only
- 0:51Speaker 1: way you can see that sort of top seven changing,
- 0:55Speaker 1: But yeah.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Exactly, that's probably the main way, although I don't see
- 0:57Speaker 3: them doing that this series. I think and Weather or
- 1:00Speaker 3: done really well at the top. Each time they've gone out,
- 1:02Speaker 3: they've gone astral off to a really promising star. They
- 1:05Speaker 3: haven't blown the wad away necessarily, but in Brisbane they
- 1:07Speaker 3: got off to a solid start both times, so I
- 1:10Speaker 3: don't see them messing with that too much.
- 1:12Speaker 2: If Kouaja does come back.
- 1:13Speaker 3: It might be in the middle order somewhere, and even
- 1:15Speaker 3: that's not a certainty, but I like where the top
- 1:18Speaker 3: order is at the moment. That's obviously been a big
- 1:19Speaker 3: problem for Australia the last couple years. This seems to
- 1:22Speaker 3: be working, so maybe don't do that too much.
- 1:23Speaker 1: One player who was playing for the Australia last summer
- 1:27Speaker 1: has just vaulted back into the conversation. Is Nathan McSweeney
- 1:30Speaker 1: two hundred and twenty six not out against a strong
- 1:33Speaker 1: side against the England lines. That's probably a higher quality
- 1:37Speaker 1: side than any shield side in Australia, and they could
- 1:39Speaker 1: They bothered him for two.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Days and they couldn't get him out and it wasn't
- 1:41Speaker 3: a super high scoring game either. Was done in about
- 1:44Speaker 3: three afternoons. So McSweeney obviously a really exciting player. He's
- 1:47Speaker 3: had a taste of Test cricket, probably out of position.
- 1:50Speaker 3: He got boomeroed a little bit in the Border Gavesca trophy.
- 1:53Speaker 3: But I just get the feeling that when Steve Smith
- 1:55Speaker 3: steps aside, which could be a couple of years away, still,
- 1:58Speaker 3: when that does happen, that feels like McSweeney's spot. I
- 2:01Speaker 3: know a lot of people like Cameron Green at for
- 2:03Speaker 3: I prefer them at five or six. I see that
- 2:06Speaker 3: more being his role. So McSween, if he keeps up
- 2:08Speaker 3: this form he's always been doing fantastically ever since he
- 2:10Speaker 3: moved to South Australia, then I'm a fourth spot could
- 2:13Speaker 3: be his in the Test side sometime in the next
- 2:15Speaker 3: twenty four months or so.
- 2:16Speaker 1: He certainly does feel like the long term Steve Smith
- 2:18Speaker 1: replacement at number four. That looks like it suits him.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I did notice though, a couple of weeks ago, when
- 2:23Speaker 1: Travis Head and Alex Carey had to come back into
- 2:25Speaker 1: the South Australian side for a Shield game, they shuffled
- 2:29Speaker 1: their order and McSweeney opened for South Australia, which the
- 2:32Speaker 1: first time he'd opened again since opening for Australia, so
- 2:35Speaker 1: it's not totally behind him. Opening he didn't do particularly
- 2:39Speaker 1: well for South Australia there did get one hundred though
- 2:42Speaker 1: against WA a few weeks ago, and now this beginning's
- 2:45Speaker 1: against the England Lions. You feel like he is right
- 2:49Speaker 1: back into contention for and it could even be quite
- 2:51Speaker 1: soon with those two Tests against Bangladeshan Darwin in the
- 2:54Speaker 1: winter and the South Africa two are coming up, there'll
- 2:56Speaker 1: be a reserve batsman going on these sorts of tours
- 2:59Speaker 1: and he could be injury away from being in the team.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, certainly.
- 3:02Speaker 3: I mean Josh Englis has been there for a while,
- 3:04Speaker 3: Biowebs is going to be in around this quarter for
- 3:05Speaker 3: a while.
- 3:05Speaker 2: There's gonna be a little bit of jostling.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Those two names I mentioned, I see them more as
- 3:09Speaker 3: six seven's really in the side. So if Marnus has
- 3:13Speaker 3: another injury God forbid, or if Smith's retirement comes a
- 3:16Speaker 3: well that's exactly when McSweeney will come into the four.
- 3:18Speaker 3: And yeah, within a couple of years, there could be
- 3:20Speaker 3: a lot of change with this Australian side. So it's
- 3:22Speaker 3: worth kiping a eye on what's happening in Australia. A
- 3:24Speaker 3: and the shield stuff.
- 3:25Speaker 1: The two openers for Australia A Campbell Kellaway and Matt Renshaw.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Going into the game, it felt like Matt Renshaw was
- 3:30Speaker 1: just ahead of Campbell Kellaway perhaps the next opener off
- 3:34Speaker 1: the mark he got out for eight, which can happen
- 3:36Speaker 1: as an opener you get a good ball early. Campbell
- 3:37Speaker 1: Keller may made seventy one. Who do you think at
- 3:40Speaker 1: the moment is more likely to say they get rid
- 3:44Speaker 1: of Kowaja and don't want head to open anymore. Who
- 3:46Speaker 1: do you of those two? Do you thinks more likely?
- 3:48Speaker 3: As big a fan of Kellowe as i am, I
- 3:50Speaker 3: still think Renshaw is probably ahead in that race, purely
- 3:54Speaker 3: because of his prior international experience. He was playing for
- 3:57Speaker 3: Australia just a few weeks ago. In the early eyes
- 4:00Speaker 3: and just a little bit more consistency from Renshaw, Kellaway
- 4:03Speaker 3: seems to be a sort of rocks and diamonds player.
- 4:05Speaker 3: He either really struggles to get off the mark or
- 4:08Speaker 3: converts to one hundred. Just him getting to the thirties, forties,
- 4:11Speaker 3: fifties a little bit more often would do him.
- 4:13Speaker 2: You know, absolute wonders he can.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Get through that first spell because obviously with openers. The
- 4:18Speaker 3: job is to get the shine off the ball, set
- 4:20Speaker 3: that platform for the middle order to take advantage of.
- 4:23Speaker 3: So just a little bit more consistent for him is
- 4:25Speaker 3: what I want to see. No doubt he's going to
- 4:27Speaker 3: be in that conversation very very soon with quaj potentially
- 4:30Speaker 3: hanging up the boots. But in my mind, Renchell is
- 4:33Speaker 3: just still a little bit ahead. Even though he didn't
- 4:35Speaker 3: now that chance against the Lions.
- 4:36Speaker 1: He did get a big endorsement Campbell, Kellaway, Kerry O'Keefe
- 4:39Speaker 1: put him in his eleven for the Third Test, So
- 4:43Speaker 1: I don't know if that carries much weight with the selectors,
- 4:45Speaker 1: but in the Fox Cricket building, that carries a whole
- 4:47Speaker 1: lot of weight. The other guy who performed really well
- 4:50Speaker 1: in that Australia A game was Joy Richardson. I feel
- 4:53Speaker 1: like I speak on behalf of the entire cricketing fans
- 4:56Speaker 1: in the nation when we say it's so good to
- 4:58Speaker 1: see him back bowling, bowling a lot of overs again
- 5:01Speaker 1: four for thirty five. Has just so good to see
- 5:04Speaker 1: him back out there.
- 5:05Speaker 3: It was just last summer he injured himself high fiving
- 5:07Speaker 3: a teammate in celebration.
- 5:09Speaker 2: He's been so vulnerable to injury.
- 5:11Speaker 3: He's had such terrible luck over the last eight years basically,
- 5:14Speaker 3: and now just this afternoon was announced that he'll be
- 5:16Speaker 3: joining the Australian squad in Adelaide.
- 5:19Speaker 2: He wouldn't be in the squad, but he'll be around
- 5:21Speaker 2: in his.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Comeback from injury, and it seems pretty clear that he's
- 5:25Speaker 3: going to be a chance for the Melbourne and Sydney Tests.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I don't see Pat Coumbens playing all three of these
- 5:30Speaker 3: last games. He's obviously still on the men from his
- 5:33Speaker 3: lower back issues.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So with Hazewld out.
- 5:35Speaker 3: With Cummans potentially missing another game, and with maybe Nissa
- 5:38Speaker 3: and Doggett maybe not coming into conversation for every game
- 5:42Speaker 3: for every condition, that's when Jira Rigidson could potentially make
- 5:45Speaker 3: his comeback after four years on the out. And there
- 5:48Speaker 3: are so many Australian fans who will be really really
- 5:49Speaker 3: pumped from excited to see him hopefully get another chance
- 5:52Speaker 3: in the Baking Green.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And so the option for the Australian camp was fither
- 5:56Speaker 1: him to go to the per scorches and pay some
- 5:58Speaker 1: big bash cricket, which he might still do during this summer,
- 6:01Speaker 1: or to go with the Australian camp and bowl there,
- 6:03Speaker 1: and I think that's probably the smart move because he's
- 6:06Speaker 1: had so much time off and he's comeback has been
- 6:09Speaker 1: through Red Bull cricket and bowling longest spells and lots
- 6:11Speaker 1: of overs, that maybe even though there's gonna be some
- 6:14Speaker 1: high quality players in the Big Bash and it's match
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know, match overs, you're only getting those maximum four
- 6:20Speaker 1: over spells, more like two over spells. There's actually such
- 6:22Speaker 1: a different skill and it does point to the fact
- 6:25Speaker 1: that he might play a role in this Ashes because
- 6:28Speaker 1: they want him to be bowling Red Bull cricket, lots
- 6:30Speaker 1: of overs, getting those workloads up. He's definitely in the
- 6:33Speaker 1: frame from Melbourne and City.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Certainly in the Cricket Australia a game that happened up
- 6:38Speaker 3: in Brisbane at the same time as the Gabba Test match,
- 6:41Speaker 3: he took four to thirty odds. He's performing, he's doing
- 6:44Speaker 3: the work.
- 6:45Speaker 2: He's putting the spells together.
- 6:47Speaker 3: He's so close and it really just comes down to
- 6:49Speaker 3: how he manages the next couple weeks and obviously how
- 6:51Speaker 3: the Australian side shapes up.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Hazeld's out for the series. That's obviously a big blow.
- 6:56Speaker 3: For the Australians, but Joe Richdon's pretty close as a
- 6:58Speaker 3: like for like in terms of the gill set they provide.
- 7:01Speaker 3: So fingers crossed from if it's not this series. We've
- 7:04Speaker 3: spoken before about how massive the twenty six twenty seven
- 7:07Speaker 3: summer is. There will be opportunities there and yeah, it's
- 7:10Speaker 3: just we all want to see him play again. We
- 7:12Speaker 3: just all dread the idea him stuffing enough injury because
- 7:15Speaker 3: it's surgery after surgery after set back for him and
- 7:18Speaker 3: he's he's too talented player for us to miss out on. Yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 3: we'd love to see him back int some stage.
- 7:22Speaker 1: It was right when you're seeing him and he's fit
- 7:24Speaker 1: and he's bowling, but he's bowling the ball back in
- 7:26Speaker 1: from the boundary because you can't throw that. That was
- 7:28Speaker 1: tough to watch. The other big name who did really
- 7:31Speaker 1: well in the Shield now outside of Australia A, and
- 7:34Speaker 1: it's noteworthy that he was playing Shield and not playing
- 7:36Speaker 1: for Australia A, was Sam Constance, scoring one hundred and sixteen.
- 7:40Speaker 1: This was his first Shield hundred since he got those
- 7:43Speaker 1: two in the same game at the start of last summer.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But it is you know, he was playing Shield he's
- 7:48Speaker 1: kellaway and Renshaw had clearly jumped him in the queue.
- 7:50Speaker 1: He's back playing Shield, but back scoring runs so important
- 7:54Speaker 1: for him.
- 7:54Speaker 3: He had spoken about after innings that it has been
- 7:57Speaker 3: a really tough couple of weeks for him, leading into
- 7:59Speaker 3: that he had been getting the runs in the Shield.
- 8:01Speaker 2: There's been so much media attention on him.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I think it was George Bailey who said if he farts,
- 8:07Speaker 3: he's a headline and it has that feeling, doesn't it.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Everything he does is newsworthy and so for him. It
- 8:12Speaker 3: was also ironic that he gets that one hundred almost
- 8:15Speaker 3: in the shadow of an Ashes Test match, and the
- 8:17Speaker 3: one time he finally does get runs it's kind of
- 8:19Speaker 3: slips to the back page a little bit, or not
- 8:21Speaker 3: the back page a few in front of that. Regardless,
- 8:24Speaker 3: it's really exciting to see him getting the runs again.
- 8:26Speaker 3: It's important for his confidence and it's going to be
- 8:28Speaker 3: the fourth first class hundred of many, many many to come,
- 8:32Speaker 3: and it may not be this summer next summer, but
- 8:34Speaker 3: he has a big Test career ahead of him. We
- 8:35Speaker 3: know that he's way too talented and it's just a
- 8:38Speaker 3: matter of him now stringing these together and getting that
- 8:40Speaker 3: consistency back and it.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Was a more circumspect not there weren't the ramps and
- 8:45Speaker 1: the scoops. There was none of that one hundred and
- 8:46Speaker 1: sixteen from one hundred and.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Eighty five balls.
- 8:48Speaker 1: What I really liked this week is reading that he's
- 8:50Speaker 1: exploring a canny cricket stint in the winter. I think
- 8:53Speaker 1: that would be perfect for him. He's going to get
- 8:56Speaker 1: all sorts of new conditions, you know, the keep her
- 8:58Speaker 1: up to the stumps and some forty two year old
- 9:00Speaker 1: pacer on a green August deck. That would be so
- 9:04Speaker 1: good for him. You know, he doesn't have kids at
- 9:06Speaker 1: home to be worried about.
- 9:07Speaker 2: He's twenty.
- 9:08Speaker 1: You can go and have a summer in the UK's
- 9:09Speaker 1: like it feels like every twenty year old Australian has
- 9:11Speaker 1: a summer in the UK. I think that will be
- 9:13Speaker 1: fantastic for him if he can make that happen.
- 9:15Speaker 3: The one thing the National Selectors have done really really
- 9:17Speaker 3: well over the last few years is exposing these young
- 9:19Speaker 3: players to different conditions. We have the Tour to Chennai
- 9:23Speaker 3: where they send a young squad to the m RAF
- 9:24Speaker 3: Academy in Chennai to get them experience in subcontinent We've
- 9:28Speaker 3: seen that payoff with Coonman and Todd Murphy already and
- 9:30Speaker 3: absolutely get them playing some county cricket. Concerts could come
- 9:33Speaker 3: into that conversation for the twenty twenty seven ashes, and
- 9:36Speaker 3: if he has a whole season under his belt, he's
- 9:38Speaker 3: going to be primed for that chance to come back
- 9:40Speaker 3: into the Test side. So that's a big tick for
- 9:42Speaker 3: the selector's giving them those chances in different conditions, it
- 9:45Speaker 3: can only be beneficial.
- 9:46Speaker 2: For the team.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Absolutely. One hundred and sixteen for Sam Constace wasn't the
- 9:50Speaker 1: highest scorer of the Shield round though. That was Liam
- 9:52Speaker 1: Scott who scored one hundred and forty seven. I've been
- 9:54Speaker 1: wanting to talk about Liam Scott for a little bit.
- 9:56Speaker 1: He is turning heads in South Australia this summer in
- 10:00Speaker 1: the Chield cricket He's got three hundred and sixty runs
- 10:03Speaker 1: at forty five and twelve wickets at twenty eight. Now,
- 10:07Speaker 1: either of those are impressive as a batsman or a bowler.
- 10:09Speaker 1: He is an all rounder and he turns twenty five
- 10:12Speaker 1: next week. He looks to be absolutely a play to
- 10:15Speaker 1: be keeping an eye on.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I even had numbers like that since bo Webs. It
- 10:18Speaker 3: was for Tasmania. Yeah, I mean before this season, I
- 10:21Speaker 3: think it's fair to say Liam was probably a bits
- 10:24Speaker 3: and pieces player. He would contribute sporadically with baton ball,
- 10:27Speaker 3: but this week is made in first class hundred and
- 10:30Speaker 3: he's one of the topic your takers for South Australia
- 10:32Speaker 3: as well as you just mentioned. I guess it really
- 10:34Speaker 3: just comes down to can he keep contributing in every
- 10:37Speaker 3: match going forward, whether that is the battle ball rather
- 10:40Speaker 3: than just occasionally having a cameo with one or the other.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Really exciting slight season for him. South Australia. They're there
- 10:45Speaker 3: and thereabouts for finals. They obviously need to get a
- 10:47Speaker 3: couple of wins together to be in that top two,
- 10:49Speaker 3: but he's going to be really crucial for them, hopefully
- 10:52Speaker 3: pushing for that final spot in March.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Cannot wait to see what Liam Scott does for the
- 10:55Speaker 1: rest of the summer. And another rule around of Mitch
- 10:57Speaker 1: Marsh announced his retirement from first class cricket at the
- 11:01Speaker 1: end of this summer, So that sort of talk about
- 11:03Speaker 1: Mitch Marsh potentially being an opening option at the end
- 11:06Speaker 1: of the Ashes, that door looks to be closed now well.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Interesting enough. In the statement from WA cricket. It did
- 11:11Speaker 3: specify that he still wanted to keep the door open
- 11:14Speaker 3: for the Test side, So at the end of this
- 11:17Speaker 3: summer he will have retired from shield cricket ending a
- 11:19Speaker 3: I think a sixteen year career for WA. Please kept
- 11:22Speaker 3: that door slightly, Ajar. I think Australia wasn't ahead to nil.
- 11:26Speaker 3: There may be more of a conversation. If weather ald
- 11:28Speaker 3: in Head hadn't done so well, there definitely would be
- 11:31Speaker 3: a conversation. I just don't think there's any need to it.
- 11:33Speaker 3: I don't see it improving the side. Mich Mass just
- 11:36Speaker 3: is like a red ball cricket. It will come back
- 11:38Speaker 3: to buy it him if that's a true aspiration for him. Realistically,
- 11:42Speaker 3: there's a T twenty World Cup next year, there's fifty
- 11:44Speaker 3: of a World Cup the year after. He's going to
- 11:46Speaker 3: be integral for both of those, for Australia success in
- 11:48Speaker 3: those tournaments. I personally wouldn't mind if he really shifted
- 11:52Speaker 3: focus to whiteball cricket for a bit lifting another World Cup.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I think maybe considering where he is in his career
- 11:58Speaker 3: should be seen as more important than another Test cameo
- 12:01Speaker 3: at some stage.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Absolutely, he's the T twenty captain in the opening batsman
- 12:04Speaker 1: like he has got a hugely important role to playing
- 12:06Speaker 1: that T twenty World Cup. So the perfect reparation is
- 12:10Speaker 1: doing it for the scorches and I'm sure he will.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Sam Elliott got five wickets again, so he took it
- 12:15Speaker 1: five through it the scg for Victoria and Victoria is
- 12:18Speaker 1: so high flying at the moment, does it again? They
- 12:20Speaker 1: have no Fergus O'Neil. Fergus O'Neil's off playing for Australia
- 12:22Speaker 1: and Sam Elliott steps up again. He's only played the
- 12:25Speaker 1: three matches for Victoria and he's taken sixteen wickets.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Where the Victoria final his fastball is from. They seem
- 12:30Speaker 3: to have so many options to choose from. They don't
- 12:32Speaker 3: have Scott Bowland and he's one of the best red
- 12:34Speaker 3: bull balls in the country. Yeah, they just seem to
- 12:36Speaker 3: be pulling out these really fantastic solid ballers and Sam
- 12:39Speaker 3: Elliott hopefully gets more chances because it could be a
- 12:42Speaker 3: scenario where if he's not getting those games off and
- 12:44Speaker 3: he might be looking to other states because he's performing
- 12:47Speaker 3: and he's an ailing it. So yeah, Victoria, they're so
- 12:50Speaker 3: far ahead in the ladder. They've have they already booked
- 12:52Speaker 3: that final spot. I haven't done the maths in my head,
- 12:54Speaker 3: but they're basically they're they're probably only one more win
- 12:56Speaker 3: to host the final at Junction Ovals. So yeah, nine
- 13:00Speaker 3: Sam Elliott throw the Big Bash as well. I'm not
- 13:01Speaker 3: sure which club is with, but wherever he is, all
- 13:05Speaker 3: the best to him, because yeah, if he keeps his
- 13:07Speaker 3: form going, it's gonna be great for Victorian cricket.
- 13:09Speaker 1: The other guy that started in that Victorian game was
- 13:11Speaker 1: Blake McDonald's got seventy nine in the first innings but
- 13:14Speaker 1: then his first sheffied Chude hundred in the second innings.
- 13:17Speaker 1: That was really impressive, and it was the contest that
- 13:19Speaker 1: made it really impressive. They needed one hundred and ninety
- 13:22Speaker 1: five with not a lot of overs, had to go
- 13:23Speaker 1: at three or four and over and he got an
- 13:25Speaker 1: unbeaten century guiding Victoria home. That was a sensational way
- 13:29Speaker 1: to make your first Sheffield Shield century for a guy
- 13:32Speaker 1: that's been had a little bit of bad luck in
- 13:35Speaker 1: this last few years.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Yeah, he was on the fringe of that New South
- 13:38Speaker 3: Wales Blues side for a while. I assume he was
- 13:41Speaker 3: becoming quite frustrated that the Blues team was struggling so much,
- 13:44Speaker 3: but he wasn't getting the opportunities to play in the side.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Victoria approached him last year with an opportunity. He took
- 13:51Speaker 3: it and you know, for the first time it's really
- 13:53Speaker 3: paid off for him. He's been a match twinter for
- 13:55Speaker 3: this side. He's finally started to spend himself in that
- 13:58Speaker 3: Victorian eleven with unavailable. He took that spot opening and
- 14:02Speaker 3: nailed it. Is there a spot for him in the
- 14:04Speaker 3: first choice team if everyone's there, maybe at number three.
- 14:07Speaker 3: It depends a lot on the balance of the side,
- 14:09Speaker 3: but yeah, hopefully for his sake hen gets some more
- 14:11Speaker 3: chances to It can only be healthy for a state
- 14:14Speaker 3: side if there is competition. I mean, it's a good
- 14:16Speaker 3: headache to have when there are multiple players performing. But yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 3: with everyone available, Dixon and Kellaway, Marcus Harris, Peter Hanskin,
- 14:23Speaker 3: The's a lot of good names there. I don't quite
- 14:25Speaker 3: know where he fits, but maybe we'll find a way.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Such depth in the Victorian ranks at the moment now
- 14:29Speaker 1: we're going on a little break for the big Batch
- 14:31Speaker 1: will be back for the Sheffield Shields when the Sheffield
- 14:33Speaker 1: Shield recommences late January. Give us one thing that you're
- 14:36Speaker 1: looking forward to in the Big Batch that's starting on Sunday.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Well, Bubbara's arm touchdown just yesterday in Sydney, obviously one
- 14:43Speaker 3: of the biggest acquisitions in Big Bash history. There's a
- 14:46Speaker 3: match in January, the Sydney Derby. I think it's the
- 14:48Speaker 3: sixteenth of January at the SCG. It's got to be
- 14:51Speaker 3: close to a sale because we're going to have potentially
- 14:53Speaker 3: Mitchell Stark, Steve Smith, David Warner, Bubbara's arm, Sam Constace.
- 14:59Speaker 3: There are a lot of exciting big names in that game.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So yeah, that's Sydney Derby. That'll be absoually huge. Sadly
- 15:04Speaker 3: no Ashvind as we've discussed before, but still regardless, that's
- 15:08Speaker 3: going to be a huge, a bigger city match that one.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Baba one of three big Pakistan names that are here, Shaheena
- 15:12Speaker 1: Freedy and Mohammed Ridzwan here as well, which is very exciting.
- 15:15Speaker 1: One thing I'm looking forward to in the Big Bash
- 15:17Speaker 1: with this Big Bash comes immediately before a T twenty
- 15:20Speaker 1: World Cup, which is not that often, and I think
- 15:22Speaker 1: there is a spot up for grabs in Australia's order.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I think if they're top seven I've got six that
- 15:27Speaker 1: are locked in marsh Head, English, Maxwell, David and Stuyness.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I think there's room there for a Matt Short, for
- 15:35Speaker 1: a Mitch Owen, or even a Cameron Green.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I was going to say Cameron Green.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I just think the T twenty World Cup being
- 15:42Speaker 1: in India, Maxwell's going to bowl four overs every game,
- 15:45Speaker 1: so you're not going to use his bowling very much.
- 15:48Speaker 1: But he's batting has been what you get at the
- 15:50Speaker 1: start of the summer, a forty one ball hundred or
- 15:52Speaker 1: something against South Africa. But then Matt Short. What Matt
- 15:55Speaker 1: Short and Mitch Owen can do and have been doing
- 15:57Speaker 1: it for Australia. I think they're those three names who
- 16:01Speaker 1: could are probably vuying for one spot.
- 16:03Speaker 3: All of them can really you know, bash the door
- 16:05Speaker 3: down in the Big Bash. This is the chance for
- 16:07Speaker 3: them to really smit them top their spot in that squad.
- 16:10Speaker 2: For me, Cameron Green, this has to be in the team.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I think he brings just a little bit of everything
- 16:14Speaker 3: in all three facets of the game. He's a match
- 16:15Speaker 3: on at the bat, he can come in and do
- 16:17Speaker 3: some handy things at the ball, and he's a gun
- 16:19Speaker 3: fielder at point in gully so in my mind he's
- 16:21Speaker 3: in that first choice side. But you know how often
- 16:24Speaker 3: we've seen injuries strike this strange squad right before a
- 16:26Speaker 3: World Cup.
- 16:27Speaker 2: And who knows he's going to be available.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Still a long way to go, Like there's still three
- 16:30Speaker 3: Test matches and half a Big Bash to go. So yeah, absolutely,
- 16:34Speaker 3: those those names you mentioned, Matt Short put together a
- 16:37Speaker 3: good Big Bash. There will be an opening there because
- 16:39Speaker 3: we know how good they are. They just haven't quite
- 16:41Speaker 3: nailed it on the international side so far, and they've
- 16:45Speaker 3: got one final chance to audition for that spot.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and all the talk is that Cameron Green's about
- 16:49Speaker 1: to go for a very big price in the ip
- 16:50Speaker 1: O loction went for a very big price a few
- 16:53Speaker 1: years ago as well.
- 16:54Speaker 2: The Big Bash
- 16:55Speaker 1: Gets underway this Sunday, the only place to watch every
- 16:58Speaker 1: game live Fox Cricket and Kao Sports
