- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next to you.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. Welcome to
- 0:12Speaker 1: the show. I am back from Bali with tons of
- 0:16Speaker 1: adventures to tell you about and happy first day back
- 0:20Speaker 1: at school after very, very long June holidays. Well-deserved rest
- 0:24Speaker 1: as well. We're going to kick it off here with
- 0:26Speaker 1: some Jack Harlow, Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Nearing the end of June, but first day back at school.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We are so happy to be with you. You know,
- 0:36Speaker 1: if I was a student, I'd be so sad because
- 0:40Speaker 1: the moment the World Cup gets juicier, I have to
- 0:44Speaker 1: go back to school. I cannot stay up late anymore.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure they have their ways of catching
- 0:48Speaker 1: up with what's been going on, but it's quite funny
- 0:51Speaker 1: you mentioned it because yesterday being the
- 0:52Speaker 1: Final day of holidays, right? Um, I landed pretty late
- 0:56Speaker 1: last night as well, so I'm running on almost no sleep. But,
- 1:00Speaker 1: but I know that there are a lot of families
- 1:03Speaker 1: and students that are possibly feeling the same way because
- 1:07Speaker 1: the airport was jam-packed. It was so crowded, full flight
- 1:12Speaker 1: coming back for me from Bali.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Um, while a lot of them were actually tourists doing
- 1:16Speaker 1: a layover in Singapore, I, because, you know, June holidays technically,
- 1:20Speaker 1: if you traveled, I think you would have traveled a
- 1:22Speaker 1: bit earlier, but I guess for some families, maybe something
- 1:25Speaker 1: going on overseas at the time or they wanted to
- 1:27Speaker 1: make this specific weekend.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I ran into some Singaporean families with kids who have
- 1:31Speaker 1: to go to school. They looked so sad when they
- 1:35Speaker 1: landed here, and we were waiting in line for, uh,
- 1:39Speaker 1: our private hire car or taxi, right? And some of
- 1:41Speaker 1: them waved and said hi and say, Hey, got, got
- 1:43Speaker 1: show tomorrow or not. They said, Yeah, I've got school
- 1:45Speaker 1: tomorrow night. Then they both went, yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 1: God, it was sad. So you know what, in that case,
- 1:50Speaker 1: it's something we've not done in one month, Sonia. Yes,
- 1:53Speaker 1: we're opening our phone lines before 7 a.m. Exactly. Maybe
- 1:56Speaker 1: in less than 10 minutes you can call us over
- 1:58Speaker 1: at 669-11987. Let us know how your June holidays went.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Let's catch up and request for your favorite song to
- 2:06Speaker 1: play here on the shock circuit. I want to write
- 2:08Speaker 1: in a report to the MDDI here in Singapore? Or
- 2:12Speaker 1: maybe even the IMDA. I want to report Sonia Chew's
- 2:15Speaker 1: Instagram account. Can you, can you stop it?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Never declared the use of AI. What is this video
- 2:20Speaker 1: of you doing push-ups? Is that even you in the
- 2:22Speaker 1: first place? It's me. It's me. I knew you were
- 2:25Speaker 1: gonna say this. Yeah, what happened there? So, OK, um,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I will tell you a bit more about my paddle
- 2:30Speaker 1: camp trip later on after 7 a.m., but since you
- 2:34Speaker 1: asked now, you're the last person I would think of
- 2:37Speaker 1: I know when it comes to a sporting, but well done.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm very proud of you. No, but you know, that's
- 2:42Speaker 1: one of the reasons why I actually I'm not feeling
- 2:44Speaker 1: so well today. I think.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I was like, I think I overdid it and I'm really,
- 2:49Speaker 1: really tired, but also coupled with the fact that late-night flight,
- 2:53Speaker 1: you know, I barely slept last night, just, just couldn't
- 2:56Speaker 1: quieten the mind, you know, because we have like things
- 2:58Speaker 1: to do this week. I'm back to work, so I
- 3:00Speaker 1: just couldn't, couldn't fall asleep. But um, in regards to
- 3:03Speaker 1: the video that you were talking about, the push-ups, I'll
- 3:06Speaker 1: just give it to you right now. Um, it was
- 3:08Speaker 1: a forfeit or rather a punishment because I kept making
- 3:11Speaker 1: the same mistakes on the court.
- 3:14Speaker 1: So, uh, for, for paddle, OK, just think of it
- 3:16Speaker 1: as a bit like tennis training, right? So, so they
- 3:20Speaker 1: break us up into groups and because I'm a bit
- 3:22Speaker 1: more of a beginner, they will group us up with
- 3:24Speaker 1: more beginners and then there's like the more intermediate or
- 3:26Speaker 1: pro people. OK. Jeremy obviously at the pro section, OK, he's,
- 3:31Speaker 1: he's not.
- 3:32Speaker 1: near us. That man can do no wrong. Yeah, and um,
- 3:36Speaker 1: so we did our own training, but it was so
- 3:38Speaker 1: useful because I've never, you know me, I've never been
- 3:41Speaker 1: a part of any sports CCA, um, any sports club, nothing.
- 3:45Speaker 1: So this was my first experience with a, a three-day
- 3:48Speaker 1: boot camp kind of situation, right? And we did drills.
- 3:52Speaker 1: So meaning to say they will repeat the same actions
- 3:55Speaker 1: over and over again until you get it.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So, it was funny because once you start doing that,
- 4:00Speaker 1: you're like, oh, OK, I got the hang of it.
- 4:03Speaker 1: muscle memory, but do you realize something, when they put
- 4:06Speaker 1: you into a fake match situation.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Everything goes out the window lah like it disappears from
- 4:13Speaker 1: your brain. What's that Singaporean for it? Yeah, maybe like
- 4:18Speaker 1: you already know. You practice so many times, right? But
- 4:21Speaker 1: when the day comes, you're like, wait, I forgot what
- 4:24Speaker 1: to do. Or what's the other one? Kuchingura. What's kuching kura?
- 4:27Speaker 1: I don't even know what that, what does that mean?
- 4:29Speaker 1: Don't auntie say it's the same meaning as kalang kabo, right?
- 4:32Speaker 1: Is it kukura? Are you sure or not? OK.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Now we, we need some aunties to verify this. Please
- 4:38Speaker 1: message us. If your parents have said the phrase, let
- 4:42Speaker 1: us know or your grandparents or whoever. Please, please let
- 4:45Speaker 1: us know. That would be really funny. But yeah, that's
- 4:48Speaker 1: the reason why I had to drop and do 10
- 4:50Speaker 1: push-ups because it's too long to explain, but you're right, yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Even though you're not feeling well, I can see your
- 4:55Speaker 1: triceps definition. Thank you, thank you, thank you. That means
- 4:58Speaker 1: you did a lot of push-ups, only 10, only 10.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And 20 squats, but that was another punishment. Happy first
- 5:06Speaker 1: day back at school. We know there might be mixed
- 5:08Speaker 1: feelings about it. Some of you may be really looking
- 5:11Speaker 1: forward to seeing your friends again. Some of you may
- 5:13Speaker 1: be struggling to open your eyes this morning. There's a
- 5:16Speaker 1: bit of irony there, you know. Happy first day back
- 5:19Speaker 1: at school. Yes, Majority of people will go, no, no,
- 5:23Speaker 1: that's not true. That's not true. I mean, OK, one
- 5:26Speaker 1: thing I was looking for.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Two back then when school reopened was to catch up
- 5:30Speaker 1: with all my friends. That was the one thing. Yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but we don't need to catch up at 6 or
- 5:34Speaker 1: 7 a.m. in the morning. That, that is, you know
- 5:36Speaker 1: what I mean? If you told me like 9 a.m., sure,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I'll go. I mean, there are some schools that start
- 5:41Speaker 1: a bit later. So if you're tuning in now and
- 5:43Speaker 1: you're already on the way there, chances are you have
- 5:45Speaker 1: to be there by 7 or 7:30.
- 5:47Speaker 1: So we want to make your morning a bit easier
- 5:49Speaker 1: and a bit better, OK? Why not we open up
- 5:51Speaker 1: phone lines right now, 669-11987. We have missed doing this
- 5:56Speaker 1: because over the past month, it's been pretty quiet this hour. Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 1: So give your school a shout out, hopefully get a
- 6:02Speaker 1: new one starting today and request for your favorite song.
- 6:06Speaker 1: But before that, you tell us how your June holidays went,
- 6:08Speaker 1: whether you went overseas or you stayed at home or
- 6:10Speaker 1: you went for a nice chalet with friends. Yeah, what
- 6:12Speaker 1: you did. Let us know. Good morning,
- 6:14Speaker 2: 97.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Hi,
- 6:16Speaker 1: good morning. A bit of a sleepy sounding family here.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Who do we have?
- 6:21Speaker 2: I'm Jeremy here.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And who are you with?
- 6:24Speaker 2: Your son. OK,
- 6:27Speaker 1: what's what's the son's name?
- 6:28Speaker 2: One of my sons Tutu and my other son is Sean.
- 6:31Speaker 1: OK, which school do you both go to? Sinan
- 6:34Speaker 2: Primary.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Sinnan Primary. And how was your June
- 6:37Speaker 2: holidays?
- 6:38Speaker 1: I
- 6:38Speaker 2: missed school.
- 6:39Speaker 1: You missed school. You see, Jo, there are people who
- 6:41Speaker 1: miss school.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Why did you miss school? The friends, the teachers, or
- 6:46Speaker 1: the studies? Yeah, of course, it's always about the people, right?
- 6:50Speaker 1: But it's good. It's good they feel this way. OK,
- 6:53Speaker 1: to really energize you and make you feel better, what
- 6:55Speaker 1: song can we get you today? OK, we will do. Alright,
- 6:59Speaker 1: enjoy yourself and have a great day. OK. Take care. Bye-bye.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Bye bye. So of course, the moment I came back
- 7:03Speaker 1: to the studio, Joakim was like, so how was your trip?
- 7:06Speaker 1: How did it go? Paddle camp, um, fitness camp, it's
- 7:09Speaker 1: unheard of when it comes to me, right? Yes, because
- 7:12Speaker 1: I mean, I've never pegged you for somebody who would
- 7:15Speaker 1: actively go for these things unless somebody forced you or
- 7:17Speaker 1: you were like, OK lah, since I go for you lah. Yes,
- 7:23Speaker 1: so you're right on both counts. so sweet. OK, no, no,
- 7:27Speaker 1: but here's the thing like I actually
- 7:29Speaker 1: Enjoy paddle as a as a sport in the game, right?
- 7:31Speaker 1: And you know me, I don't have any prior training
- 7:33Speaker 1: in like racket sports or whatever. I know how to
- 7:35Speaker 1: make a racket, that's for sure, but not racket sports.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Just for this entire life of mine, is it pronounced
- 7:44Speaker 1: paddle or Padel or? Um, so I believe that it's
- 7:48Speaker 1: meant to be Padel, like, especially overseas, like in Europe
- 7:51Speaker 1: and all that, but
- 7:53Speaker 1: You know, if you say that in Singapore, it sounds
- 7:54Speaker 1: very pretentious lah. Exactly. Like no one, no one says
- 7:57Speaker 1: Padel here. You just say I'm playing paddle. I'm playing paddle.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Like it's just a colloquial way of saying it, but
- 8:02Speaker 1: I don't think your next pick me, bro or pick me, yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna play padel at Dempsey.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Which actually has a very nice court there. But anyway, anyway,
- 8:13Speaker 1: that aside, before I even got to the hotel, the resort,
- 8:19Speaker 1: or the training camp, OK, the wellness camp rather, um,
- 8:24Speaker 1: I got stopped again at uh at the customs check
- 8:27Speaker 1: in Bali, and I knew Joki will appreciate this story
- 8:31Speaker 1: and laughed at me about it.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Because he always, always has a good time cackling at
- 8:36Speaker 1: me for being stopped. OK, can I ask, can you
- 8:41Speaker 1: describe to me the kind of face, the kind of
- 8:44Speaker 1: energy you are exuding while walking towards the Bali customs? OK, so,
- 8:49Speaker 1: so how it works is that, I mean if you've
- 8:51Speaker 1: been to Bali before, it's not that big of an
- 8:53Speaker 1: airport departure, I mean arrival area, right? Yeah. So you
- 8:56Speaker 1: get your luggage, you walk through, now you have to
- 8:58Speaker 1: basically go through like a
- 9:00Speaker 1: A quick QR code scanning system where you have to
- 9:03Speaker 1: fill in a form prior to that, right? So you
- 9:06Speaker 1: fill in the form, should be no issues. You just
- 9:08Speaker 1: walk through, they scan the code and you're, you're, you're
- 9:09Speaker 1: on your way. So I was with this group of, um,
- 9:12Speaker 1: I'm guessing tourists that got mixed up, some people from
- 9:15Speaker 1: the SQ flight, some people from elsewhere. So just walking by,
- 9:18Speaker 1: you know, and it was a group of maybe like
- 9:20Speaker 1: 10 of us in the line. So I came out
- 9:22Speaker 1: from the QR code scanning, and out of all the
- 9:25Speaker 1: people that were in the group that I was with,
- 9:29Speaker 1: The guy pointed at me, singled me out, and pointed
- 9:31Speaker 1: towards the scanner, like the, the, the custom scanner, OK?
- 9:35Speaker 1: Just me, ah, only me. So I went, I was like,
- 9:38Speaker 1: oh man, not again, you know, I wasn't thinking about,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I wasn't even thinking about it. I was giving the
- 9:42Speaker 1: most normal face, keeping my phone after the QR scanning.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Um, giving a nice gentle smile, you know, that kind
- 9:50Speaker 1: of stuff. So I was like, I didn't do anything
- 9:52Speaker 1: remotely suspicious. Hang on, wait, show me your gentle smile. OK,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I'm putting my phone back.
- 10:00Speaker 1: What? What? What's wrong with that smile? That's my, that's my, like,
- 10:07Speaker 1: Yes, that, that's my, that's my, um, friendly. I'm arriving
- 10:11Speaker 1: into a country smile. Sonia, next time, eyes forward, just walk. I,
- 10:18Speaker 1: I wasn't making eye contact with. I know, no need
- 10:21Speaker 1: to put gentle smile or what, just put your default
- 10:23Speaker 1: face and just walk straight. I have tested my default
- 10:27Speaker 1: face before and it still didn't work. Can anyone help
- 10:31Speaker 1: me with this like on.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Someone, anyone, uh, I, I don't know, a body language expert.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I need to find someone who's in that field. Just
- 10:39Speaker 1: don't travel.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Or, or the next time you travel, can I please
- 10:45Speaker 1: come along with you? You want to just witness this.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You walk in front of me, I walk behind you.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Let's see who gets stopped. I think you get stopped again.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Well, you know what, if you ever,
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'm not saying that it's right to do anything illegal,
- 10:55Speaker 1: but if you ever want to do anything, please don't
- 10:57Speaker 1: invite me with you, OK? Yeah, so to the immigration
- 11:01Speaker 1: police of other countries and nations, because you stopped Sonia Chew,
- 11:05Speaker 1: the actual criminals are getting away away. So don't stop her.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Don't waste time with me.
- 11:10Speaker 1: That, that's what a criminal would say also.
- 11:14Speaker 1: My hole is just getting deeper and deeper. Um, look,
- 11:18Speaker 1: I really hope no Singaporean was involved in this. Our
- 11:22Speaker 1: friends over at Japan, and look, lah, if I work
- 11:25Speaker 1: for the Ministry of Tourism in Japan, right?
- 11:28Speaker 1: I think I'll be the most stressed out minister ever.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Oh boy, because how are we going to deal with overcrowding,
- 11:33Speaker 1: over-tourism in Japan, to the point where we're actually offering
- 11:37Speaker 1: tickets or very cheap rates to go elsewhere in Japan, yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 1: other than your usual places like Tokyo, Osaka.
- 11:45Speaker 1: See, the thing is, would you say this is a
- 11:47Speaker 1: good problem because while other countries are struggling to get
- 11:51Speaker 1: tourism up, they have over-tourism. I mean, it is somewhat
- 11:54Speaker 1: a good problem in a way, in a way. It
- 11:57Speaker 1: depends on how you look at it. Yeah, yeah. It
- 11:58Speaker 1: also comes with, you know, bad behavior and then of
- 12:01Speaker 1: course with snowboarding and all that.
- 12:03Speaker 1: You know the snow monkeys in Japan. They're very cute.
- 12:06Speaker 1: They always like, are they the ones that dip themselves
- 12:08Speaker 1: in like the on sand? They soak themselves in on sand. So.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Jiko Kudani Monkey Park, hopefully I'm saying that correctly, a
- 12:16Speaker 1: popular place in Nagano, Japan. It is known for the
- 12:19Speaker 1: snow monkeys, the wild Japanese macaque. Hopefully I'm saying that correctly.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Sounded like you were trying to spit or clear your throat,
- 12:26Speaker 1: but from August 2026.
- 12:29Speaker 1: This Japanese snow monkey park, it will now cap daily
- 12:33Speaker 1: visitor numbers and move to online ticketing because of bad
- 12:38Speaker 1: tourist behavior. What are they doing to the monkeys? OK,
- 12:41Speaker 1: the minor ones, but they're still serious. People feeding the monkeys,
- 12:46Speaker 1: touching the monkeys, chasing the monkeys down. That one, yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 1: you're gonna get people who will do that, idiots. And
- 12:53Speaker 1: then the next one.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I'm very curious as to why, OK? You know how
- 12:59Speaker 1: the snow monkeys bathe in the on sands, right? It's
- 13:01Speaker 1: natural springs.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Are people going into the on sand? The tourists, no,
- 13:08Speaker 1: they want to bathe. Why the snow monkeys. I can't
- 13:12Speaker 1: decide what's worse, to be honest. Exactly. I don't think
- 13:15Speaker 1: that's very hygienic for you as a human being. Do
- 13:17Speaker 1: you know what's in the hot water in the in
- 13:22Speaker 1: the water in the hot springs, yes, yeah, I mean, look, um.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I love an on sand. I love a good natural
- 13:28Speaker 1: on sand, but animals can be very unpredictable. What if
- 13:33Speaker 1: you go, you're basically invading their bathtub, you know. No, no,
- 13:37Speaker 1: absolutely not. Although they may recognize me as one of them,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I don't know. They may be like, hey, our long
- 13:44Speaker 1: lost cousin. But you know, essentially, if we were to
- 13:47Speaker 1: put it simply, right, you're basically visiting someone's house, right?
- 13:51Speaker 1: You visit someone's house.
- 13:53Speaker 1: You don't shower wherever you go, just jump straight into
- 13:56Speaker 1: the bathtub. That's what people are doing. Uh, there are
- 13:59Speaker 1: other metaphorically speaking, incidences of bad behavior as well. So
- 14:03Speaker 1: apparently a cherry blossom festival near Mount Fuji in Fuji, Oshida.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I love that place, by the way, I'll gladly go
- 14:09Speaker 1: back just to sit on a bench and look at
- 14:11Speaker 1: Mount Fuji. It was canceled after residents complained that their
- 14:15Speaker 1: quiet lives were under threat.
- 14:18Speaker 1: With complaints of trespassing, littering, and people defecating in their
- 14:24Speaker 1: private gardens. Why? I have so many questions. Do they
- 14:30Speaker 1: have CCTV? Can they catch these people? I'm sure they do,
- 14:33Speaker 1: and I'm sure they've given the footage to the authorities already.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But I really hope no Singaporeans were involved in this
- 14:39Speaker 1: kind of bad behavior, especially bathing with the snow monkeys.
- 14:42Speaker 1: That one I cannot understand. I don't get it. I
- 14:43Speaker 1: don't get it. You go and try Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
- 14:46Speaker 1: That's the thing, police waiting outside. But the question is,
- 14:50Speaker 1: what is the eventual goal of that? Like, is it
- 14:52Speaker 1: for content or what? Because you can't post it. The post,
- 14:55Speaker 1: once you post it, you get arrested. What? It could
- 14:57Speaker 1: be for content. It could be for all the culture,
- 15:00Speaker 1: the experience, the healing zen of the Japanese spring.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Nothing healing about that after you get caught by the authorities,
- 15:09Speaker 1: but you know, they're not alone on this because other
- 15:11Speaker 1: countries I've seen recently, especially on, you know, TikTok and
- 15:14Speaker 1: Instagram and all that, um, tourists going into like fountains, waterfalls,
- 15:20Speaker 1: places that are they specifically have a sign there that
- 15:23Speaker 1: says you cannot enter, but there are people doing it for, for,
- 15:26Speaker 1: for the cloud or for content. On the topic of monkeys,
- 15:30Speaker 1: how was Bali? Oh, Bali, I was in, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Planet monkeys. We drove past the monkey temple, monkey forest, sorry,
- 15:40Speaker 1: monkey forest, but there's also a temple there monkeys, and
- 15:44Speaker 1: I swear, I swear, we saw a monkey, several monkeys
- 15:48Speaker 1: roaming around, but one of them squatting outside holding a phone.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I'm not joking, I'm not kidding. And this reminded me
- 15:55Speaker 1: of Joakim, not, not because he looks like the monkey
- 15:58Speaker 1: or anything, no resemblance, but it's because your phone.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Stolen by monkey in 2019, yes, at Uluwatu. I was
- 16:07Speaker 1: holding my phone. I was telling my ex-girlfriend, Hey, please
- 16:09Speaker 1: keep your stuff, and out of nowhere the monkey snatches
- 16:13Speaker 1: my phone. But that, OK, the rumor is the trainer
- 16:16Speaker 1: trains the monkeys to do these things so that you
- 16:19Speaker 1: tip the trainer for them to get your phone back
- 16:22Speaker 1: for you. That's how they earn a bit of pocket
- 16:24Speaker 1: money on the side. That's the rumor. I'm not going
- 16:25Speaker 1: to confirm anything. OK, OK. Well, that personally has not
- 16:27Speaker 1: happened to me, but
- 16:29Speaker 1: Um, I did see a monkey carrying a phone. There
- 16:32Speaker 1: you go. Yeah, I wish I got a picture of that.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Could have been my phone. OK, time for some Bodo crime. Joakim,
- 16:38Speaker 1: can you explain to our wonderful listeners who might have
- 16:40Speaker 1: just joined us for the first time what is Bordo crime? Yeah, OK,
- 16:43Speaker 1: so when it comes to the serious crimes here in Singapore,
- 16:48Speaker 1: we will never ever touch them or laugh at them,
- 16:50Speaker 1: but when it comes to
- 16:50Speaker 1: To crime that just makes you think, what were they doing?
- 16:55Speaker 1: What were they thinking? Can you please explain yourselves? That
- 16:58Speaker 1: one we classify as border crime. Exactly. And this one
- 17:01Speaker 1: unfortunately happened again at another durian stall. I don't know
- 17:04Speaker 1: what's going on. Which location? Um, I'll let you know
- 17:07Speaker 1: in a bit. Should I sing the jingle first? 123
- 17:12Speaker 1: and crime, crime, crime.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Today we are going to at top durian station.
- 17:19Speaker 1: So I was scrolling to try and see where is
- 17:22Speaker 1: Top durian station situated at.
- 17:25Speaker 1: And um I need to do a quick search on
- 17:26Speaker 1: that in just a bit, yeah, because it doesn't say
- 17:28Speaker 1: in this particular article. Oh they got a lot is, OK, well,
- 17:31Speaker 1: they didn't specify which particular one, but I think if
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'm not wrong, you're right. The store in question, even
- 17:37Speaker 1: though they have many chains, is the one at Block
- 17:39Speaker 1: 154 Bukit Batok Street 11 because they have one at Yishun,
- 17:43Speaker 1: so I was gonna say Yishun, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's a chain. It's, yeah, it, I wouldn't
- 17:47Speaker 1: call it a franchise. They've got several shops. So yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 1: to specify, it's in Bukit Batok, the boisterous street of
- 17:53Speaker 1: Bukit Batok. Let's take it away. Unfortunately, this durian stall assistant, um, he,
- 17:59Speaker 1: I'm guessing he might seem to be quite a good employee, OK,
- 18:03Speaker 1: because he was entrusted with
- 18:05Speaker 1: Uh, the code to the safe where during Chinese New Year,
- 18:09Speaker 1: you know, maybe they got a lot of sales and
- 18:11Speaker 1: stuff like that, right? So they will have to have
- 18:12Speaker 1: a safe so they can keep all the, the proceeds, right,
- 18:15Speaker 1: from the sales. So this assistant, he was entrusted with
- 18:19Speaker 1: the passcode. Unfortunately, he ended up stealing almost $18,000 worth
- 18:25Speaker 1: of cash.
- 18:26Speaker 1: And proceeded to gamble the entire sum of money away
- 18:30Speaker 1: at MBS. Oh, this combines and bling habit. I know,
- 18:34Speaker 1: I know. So this is just very unfortunate because
- 18:37Speaker 1: Giving him the passcode, that gives him so much power, right,
- 18:40Speaker 1: in a way, but also kind of silly for him
- 18:43Speaker 1: to do that. He's probably the only other person who
- 18:45Speaker 1: has a passcode. It's not like he was even trying
- 18:46Speaker 1: to get away with it. Maybe he thought to himself
- 18:49Speaker 1: he will win and double the cash and then he
- 18:51Speaker 1: put the cash back. No, I don't. It rarely does,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but maybe that was him being optimistic. Was he caught
- 18:57Speaker 1: on CCTV? He was caught. So, um, during the CNY period,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I think this was, uh, 18th Feb to 22nd Feb.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Um, the supervisor went on leave, so I think he
- 19:06Speaker 1: took that as an opportunity to be like, OK, you know,
- 19:09Speaker 1: no one knows, no one knows what's going on. $17,300
- 19:14Speaker 1: disappeared from the safe on separate occasions. For the first time,
- 19:18Speaker 1: he attempted with something a bit smaller, so I think
- 19:20Speaker 1: he took stacks of $50 notes. This totaled to $1000.
- 19:24Speaker 1: 2nd time he thought, nobody said anything, he sat.
- 19:27Speaker 1: He kept up the remaining $16.3,000 in cash, gambled the
- 19:31Speaker 1: stolen money away, and guess what, he even borrowed money
- 19:36Speaker 1: from customers and friends. Yeah, so, um, I think what
- 19:40Speaker 1: happened was over 50 customers turned up to collect debts
- 19:44Speaker 1: because they all, maybe he sort of said some pitiful
- 19:47Speaker 1: story and they lent him some money.
- 19:50Speaker 1: So as a result, he not only owes that almost
- 19:53Speaker 1: 180 back to his employer, he also owes other customers money.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I'm guessing. No, so far, no. I think they're still,
- 20:02Speaker 1: they're still looking into it.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Um, but what, what the friends and people are saying
- 20:06Speaker 1: is that he seems like a neighbor to them sometimes,
- 20:09Speaker 1: you know, he's a good friend and they trusted him
- 20:12Speaker 1: and they said that he promised to pay the rest
- 20:14Speaker 1: back when he received his salary. Unfortunately, he got arrested. Yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 1: that's lending money.
- 20:21Speaker 1: You got to be very careful and perhaps maybe, and
- 20:25Speaker 1: I say this if you can afford it, it should
- 20:28Speaker 1: be money you're prepared to lose and never ever get back. No,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I completely agree. Um, but I guess the silver lining
- 20:35Speaker 1: is that apparently he really expressed a lot of remorse
- 20:39Speaker 1: and not just to supervisors, his colleagues, but he's been
- 20:42Speaker 1: appealing for leniency. He said he really is very, very
- 20:45Speaker 1: sorry and he understands the seriousness of his actions. So
- 20:48Speaker 1: hopefully he's not.
- 20:49Speaker 1: saying it to get out of the situation, you know, I,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I have faith that he, he really feels bad and
- 20:54Speaker 1: he gets the treatment he deserves in terms of the
- 20:56Speaker 1: gambling addiction. I know and maybe that self-exclusion program that
- 21:01Speaker 1: both Marina Bay Sands and RWS they have with their casinos. Yeah,
- 21:04Speaker 1: but not durian stalls lately happening, making the news for
- 21:08Speaker 1: all different reasons. There was one, I think last week
- 21:11Speaker 1: over at Tampines, they were giving away 1000 kg of
- 21:14Speaker 1: durian on the daily queues.
- 21:18Speaker 1: That's great. So yummy. OK, so I haven't filled Joakim
- 21:20Speaker 1: in on this just yet, but I wanted to get
- 21:22Speaker 1: your thoughts, OK? And I'm pretty sure, I'm pretty sure
- 21:26Speaker 1: I know what you would do in this situation. OK, people,
- 21:28Speaker 1: I'll give it to you first. My podcast is on.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Let's go. So over when I was in Bali over
- 21:33Speaker 1: the weekend, it was meant to be like a
- 21:36Speaker 1: Oh, I wouldn't call it a fitness retreat because it's,
- 21:39Speaker 1: you know, we still go drink, we still eat like
- 21:41Speaker 1: really amazing Balinese food. It's not like we're eating clean
- 21:44Speaker 1: and strictly going by a schedule, you know, a fitness retreat. But,
- 21:49Speaker 1: but I will say that it, for me, it was
- 21:52Speaker 1: quite intense because I don't usually do that.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Much like physical activity, cardio, um, drills and stuff when
- 21:58Speaker 1: it comes to any sort of sports. So it was
- 22:00Speaker 1: a new experience to me and I think my body's
- 22:02Speaker 1: just very exhausted from it. To our friends over at MINDEF,
- 22:06Speaker 1: do a sponsored campaign with Sonia. Make her go for
- 22:08Speaker 1: the SAF SAF VC for 2 weeks. 2 weeks.
- 22:13Speaker 1: 2 weeks BMT 2 days with the Singapore Armed Forces
- 22:16Speaker 1: Volunteer Corps. Can I start with 2 days? No, 2
- 22:19Speaker 1: weeks is a bit pushing it. Like, have you seen me? Hello.
- 22:23Speaker 1: You know, for us men, national service, you try to
- 22:26Speaker 1: go and tell your inject or sergeant.
- 22:30Speaker 1: OK, this one is different. You try lah. I'm kidding.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I'm kidding. But yes, that's always the fight, right? Anyway, um,
- 22:36Speaker 1: what happened was when I was over, when I was
- 22:39Speaker 1: in the hotel, um, we booked the same hotel basically
- 22:41Speaker 1: for 3 nights, OK? So 3 nights I was like
- 22:45Speaker 1: ready for this restful weekend, and then, you know, we
- 22:48Speaker 1: wake up early, go for peddle camp.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Um, eat nice food, you know, we end off, then
- 22:53Speaker 1: we can go chill out by the pool and it
- 22:54Speaker 1: was just meant to be super fun, relaxing, and some
- 22:57Speaker 1: training to some extent, right? Um, unfortunately, the first night,
- 23:02Speaker 1: and we encountered some very, very, very noisy tourists that
- 23:06Speaker 1: were also staying in the same hotel, OK. So, this
- 23:09Speaker 1: hotel is quite big and the hallways are very long.
- 23:13Speaker 1: And it's mostly made up of wood, right? So as
- 23:15Speaker 1: you can, the sound will travel. It's, it's one of
- 23:18Speaker 1: those slightly rustic, you know, Bali, right? It's a bit
- 23:21Speaker 1: more rustic, right? So the sound will travel for sure.
- 23:24Speaker 1: First night, there were very loud cackling noises coming through,
- 23:28Speaker 1: but it was maybe like twelve-ish at night. So, OK, la,
- 23:32Speaker 1: maybe I thought these people are having fun, you know,
- 23:35Speaker 1: just came back from a party probably, and yeah, I just, OK,
- 23:38Speaker 1: never mind. I'll just, I'll just let it slide and
- 23:40Speaker 1: not say anything about it, OK.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Um, but allegedly they made more noise at an area
- 23:47Speaker 1: nearer to our other friend's room. So she got the
- 23:50Speaker 1: brunt of it. So she was very frustrated. She said
- 23:52Speaker 1: she only slept like 2 hours that night. So we
- 23:55Speaker 1: felt really bad for her. We said, OK, we'll, we'll
- 23:57Speaker 1: hopefully it doesn't happen again tonight. Lo and behold, um,
- 24:01Speaker 1: this was the last night, OK, so the next, basically
- 24:03Speaker 1: next day, which was yesterday, Sunday, we had a mini tournament.
- 24:07Speaker 1: So we want to be like at our best, right,
- 24:09Speaker 1: well rested.
- 24:11Speaker 1: My gosh, at, I want to say 3 a.m. or so,
- 24:15Speaker 1: like 3-ish, they started going at it again.
- 24:20Speaker 1: And then they started laughing. I think they were maybe intoxicated.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Sounded like it. They probably just came back from somewhere.
- 24:28Speaker 1: And I woke up from it, OK, I, I, I
- 24:30Speaker 1: was jolted awake because of it. I didn't want to
- 24:32Speaker 1: check the time because, you know, you know, both of us, right?
- 24:36Speaker 1: We've got this anxiety with the timing and all that.
- 24:38Speaker 1: When you wake up and you see like, oh man,
- 24:40Speaker 1: I still have 3 more hours to sleep, but I'm
- 24:42Speaker 1: already awake. What am I going to do, you know?
- 24:44Speaker 1: Did Bali witness angry Sonia? Yes, yes. OK, about time
- 24:51Speaker 1: that unleashed. Hold on. So I, I just want to
- 24:53Speaker 1: give you a disclaimer. I was not, OK, I don't
- 24:56Speaker 1: think I was rude or mean or anything. I don't
- 24:58Speaker 1: think so. I don't think so, OK.
- 25:00Speaker 1: But I figured that they sounded very, very near my room,
- 25:04Speaker 1: and I should just take things into my own hands
- 25:06Speaker 1: because I've done the whole like calling the front desk
- 25:09Speaker 1: before and it didn't really work out, you know what
- 25:10Speaker 1: I mean? They will always be very nice about it
- 25:12Speaker 1: and then they'll come back again, the noise will come
- 25:14Speaker 1: back again, like after a while, right? So after, I
- 25:17Speaker 1: don't know, I want to say 2030 minutes of them cackling, laughing, shouting, screaming, um,
- 25:23Speaker 1: just all the sound reverberating down the hallway.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I stood up and germs was like, what's going on?
- 25:28Speaker 1: What's going on? I stood up, I went to the door,
- 25:31Speaker 1: I flung it open and my first thought was,
- 25:35Speaker 1: I was just like.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Then he kept quiet for a while, then he started
- 25:38Speaker 1: laughing again, and then guess what I did? You went
- 25:41Speaker 1: to the room.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Guess what I said next? Shut up.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Knowing you, I did that and I don't usually do that,
- 25:50Speaker 1: but it was so frustrating because they were going on
- 25:52Speaker 1: for so long. So they actually, they actually left after that. Oh,
- 25:58Speaker 1: I heard them like sort of scramble and then they.
- 26:02Speaker 1: To which I think maybe other people around were quite
- 26:05Speaker 1: grateful that that happened. You tribute. Hey man, um, it
- 26:10Speaker 1: was one of those things where I feel it was
- 26:12Speaker 1: out of character, but I was just really frustrated because
- 26:14Speaker 1: it's two nights in a row. First night, close one eye.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Second night, this was way too late. I checked the time,
- 26:18Speaker 1: it was 4:30. Exactly, it was 4:30 and I was
- 26:22Speaker 1: so like riled up from it. I was like took
- 26:24Speaker 1: some time to fall back asleep.
- 26:26Speaker 1: That's my story. Can you just for dramatic purposes, can
- 26:31Speaker 1: you reenact the way you said shut up? Shut up.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Oh wow, like that. Yeah, maybe that's why my throat
- 26:37Speaker 1: pain today.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Give us a call 669-11987. Yeah. Let us know, have
- 26:45Speaker 1: you ever been in a situation where you're traveling or
- 26:48Speaker 1: maybe you had a staycation?
- 26:50Speaker 1: And the rooms around you or someone that's staying in
- 26:53Speaker 1: a room around you made so much noise that got
- 26:57Speaker 1: you so frustrated and what did you do? I'll give
- 26:59Speaker 1: you my story when we come back. OK, well, recounting
- 27:02Speaker 1: noisy people invading the peace over at what's meant to
- 27:06Speaker 1: be a Zen vacation or a wellness getaway or something.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I'm sure this has happened.
- 27:11Speaker 1: to, to most of us. You know, you, you check
- 27:13Speaker 1: into a hotel, you're going for a trip and you're
- 27:15Speaker 1: looking forward to having a good night's rest, but unfortunately,
- 27:18Speaker 1: you get stuck next to a noisy neighbor in the hotel.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Inspired by whatever happened to our darling Sonia Chew at
- 27:25Speaker 1: 4:30 a.m. with her big head and face going out
- 27:30Speaker 1: of the room yelling, shut up.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Hey, that was a different side of me that germs
- 27:36Speaker 1: has not quite seen, I think. Forget Mount Bor, the
- 27:40Speaker 1: active volcano. There's a Mount Sonia, yeah. And don't mess
- 27:43Speaker 1: with this one. The eruption could be anytime. Yes, I've
- 27:46Speaker 1: seen it. Last erupted, uh, what, 12 years ago. Anyway,
- 27:50Speaker 1: I wanna say good morning to the moon.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Recounting a noisy night in a hotel, I was in
- 27:55Speaker 1: the Middle East, and the guests next door were having
- 27:58Speaker 1: parties every night in their room, and they only dialed
- 28:02Speaker 1: about maybe say 6 a.m. After a few nights like that,
- 28:05Speaker 1: I cannot tahan, so I banged on the wall to
- 28:07Speaker 1: signal them to be quiet. Instead of keeping quiet, they
- 28:10Speaker 1: banged back and moments later I got a call from
- 28:14Speaker 1: the reception saying my neighbors next door.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Complain about banging on the wall coming from my room.
- 28:20Speaker 1: The nerve. What, the plot twist, man. Seriously, I'll be
- 28:23Speaker 1: so mad. OK, here's what I would do, and I'm
- 28:27Speaker 1: a very, OK, could be an overthinker, could be a
- 28:31Speaker 1: personality type kind of thing, right? I'm the kind of
- 28:33Speaker 1: person where if I walk into a hotel before I
- 28:35Speaker 1: check in, I'll observe the staff first. OK, I'll look
- 28:38Speaker 1: and see if there's anyone of authority.
- 28:40Speaker 1: There within the staff members because I know if I
- 28:43Speaker 1: have problems, at least there's someone who can handle it
- 28:46Speaker 1: and not someone who go like, hi, sorry sir, you
- 28:49Speaker 1: know we get complaints about your room too but the
- 28:51Speaker 1: thing is you can't guarantee that because in the middle
- 28:53Speaker 1: of the night that person may not be on shift shift, yeah,
- 28:56Speaker 1: they may not be putting the high ranking person with
- 28:59Speaker 1: authority overnight. So if for example, the room next to
- 29:02Speaker 1: mine is really noisy and it's 2 a.m. in the morning.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I'm definitely calling reception. Yeah. If it's still noisy, I'm
- 29:08Speaker 1: going to go to the room myself and knock say,
- 29:10Speaker 1: hey guys, come on lah. You know, it's into your
- 29:12Speaker 1: own hands. OK, so, funny enough, right, this happened when
- 29:16Speaker 1: um Jerm and I were on our honeymoon as well, OK.
- 29:19Speaker 1: So you know, in Europe, some of the hotels are
- 29:22Speaker 1: a bit older. They are beautiful, but I think the
- 29:24Speaker 1: walls are a little bit thin and compared to the modern,
- 29:27Speaker 1: some of the modern hotels, right? So there was this
- 29:29Speaker 1: one place we're staying at, beautiful place, beautiful view.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Um, the person who booked the suite next to us
- 29:36Speaker 1: had parties every night till like late, OK, and they
- 29:39Speaker 1: were playing like kind of music.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And I can hear it from the, from the sleeping
- 29:45Speaker 1: area in our room. And initially I called, we called
- 29:50Speaker 1: the reception, we said, hey, do you think you could
- 29:51Speaker 1: go check it out because it's really, you know, it's,
- 29:53Speaker 1: it's going on for quite a while. And I was genuinely,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I was in a good mood. I didn't want to
- 29:57Speaker 1: get into any, you know, fights or whatsoever, right? So
- 30:01Speaker 1: they went ahead. So I said, OK, fine. Next night
- 30:04Speaker 1: it happened again, OK, like in the middle of the night.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So I was like, is there a point even like
- 30:10Speaker 1: asking the reception again, maybe this person is like a
- 30:13Speaker 1: high spender, you know, seeing how this, it's a nice
- 30:16Speaker 1: suite next to us, I think it's one of the
- 30:17Speaker 1: nicest ones that they booked, right? So I was like, OK,
- 30:20Speaker 1: I don't know what to do because um the next
- 30:22Speaker 1: morning when we went to breakfast, we did see a
- 30:24Speaker 1: couple of um
- 30:25Speaker 1: I don't want to generalize, but they seem quite scary
- 30:29Speaker 1: and sketchy, the people that were living in the suite
- 30:31Speaker 1: next to us. Yeah, so I don't know, we don't
- 30:34Speaker 1: know the backstory, right? So I didn't dare, like we
- 30:36Speaker 1: didn't want to get ourselves into any trouble by knocking
- 30:39Speaker 1: on their door because it seemed like, I don't know
- 30:42Speaker 1: what kind of parties they were having. I'm just gonna
- 30:44Speaker 1: leave it as that. The both of you on your honeymoon,
- 30:47Speaker 1: let them hear you back. All the activities, let them
- 30:50Speaker 1: hear it.
- 30:53Speaker 1: They want different kind of sound. Gerry is on the
- 30:56Speaker 1: line right now. Have you experienced this before?
- 30:59Speaker 2: I was
- 30:59Speaker 2: staying in a hostel. Oh no.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Right, opposite, it's actually like a room, entertainment room where
- 31:07Speaker 2: like kids, I mean like students can hang out there,
- 31:09Speaker 2: watch TV and all that, but you know, being uni students, right,
- 31:13Speaker 2: most of them actually hang out there till like wee hours.
- 31:17Speaker 2: So I don't understand why when they want a party,
- 31:19Speaker 2: they have to like open the door when there's actually
- 31:22Speaker 2: you can close the door.
- 31:24Speaker 2: And knowing that my room is just opposite that door,
- 31:28Speaker 2: so that day I was actually trying to sleep because
- 31:31Speaker 2: I had to like catch a morning bus to go
- 31:34Speaker 2: to another city. They had to like party all night
- 31:38Speaker 2: and open the door, so I got so pissed off.
- 31:40Speaker 2: We went to the room and they actually use uh
- 31:43Speaker 2: like a stopper, not knowing that that that stopper is
- 31:46Speaker 2: actually one of, uh, don't know what my friends say
- 31:49Speaker 2: it's like actually specially made snooker stick.
- 31:52Speaker 2: So I took that and then just smashed it on
- 31:54Speaker 2: the floor. Can you all just keep quiet? They actually
- 31:57Speaker 2: all went quiet but the person who owned the snooker
- 32:00Speaker 2: came to me and said, Why do you have to
- 32:01Speaker 2: smash this? This is actually specially made. Uh, I don't
- 32:04Speaker 2: know what lah, with what material. They say, but you
- 32:06Speaker 2: all make so much noise, and how, why do you
- 32:08Speaker 2: use an expensive stick to stop a door?
- 32:12Speaker 2: True.
- 32:12Speaker 1: So David, I have a question for you. Are you
- 32:14Speaker 1: a teacher now by any chance or discipline mistress?
- 32:17Speaker 2: I'm a,
- 32:18Speaker 2: I'm a netball
- 32:19Speaker 2: coach.
- 32:22Speaker 1: OK.
- 32:24Speaker 1: good news, Sonia. Based on my experience over the weekend
- 32:27Speaker 1: about noisy neighbors when you check into a hotel, sometimes
- 32:31Speaker 1: these things not within your control. You don't even know
- 32:34Speaker 1: whether they're going to be throwing parties every single night
- 32:36Speaker 1: and all that, but it has happened to the best
- 32:37Speaker 1: of us. Um, after reading out some of these messages
- 32:40Speaker 1: and some of your calls, we're back with more stories.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Say good morning to Cecilia.
- 32:45Speaker 1: On WhatsApp. Morning, Sonia and Joe. I had the same
- 32:48Speaker 1: experience as Sonia. We were at Batam for our company's
- 32:51Speaker 1: retreat and I bunked in with our HR officer. We
- 32:53Speaker 1: were soundly asleep when I heard people chatting and laughing
- 32:56Speaker 1: loudly in the wee hours. I was very agitated, and
- 32:59Speaker 1: it went on for some time. In my days, I
- 33:01Speaker 1: tried to open my eyes and sat up on the bed,
- 33:03Speaker 1: about to shout when I saw that the TV was
- 33:05Speaker 1: turned on.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Our HR officer was grinding her teeth in her sleep.
- 33:09Speaker 1: The TV controller was on the floor. I freaked out
- 33:11Speaker 1: and picked up the controller to turn off the TV,
- 33:14Speaker 1: jumped on the bed, covered my head with the comforter,
- 33:16Speaker 1: and the thumping from my heartbeat was even louder to
- 33:18Speaker 1: my ears than the sound from the TV earlier. I
- 33:21Speaker 1: thought the room was haunted. Oh no. Oh no. OK, look,
- 33:26Speaker 1: some
- 33:28Speaker 1: Actually, some of these hotels, maybe it's also because it's
- 33:30Speaker 1: a bit old, like the hotel we were staying in,
- 33:32Speaker 1: I think even though it's well maintained, I think some
- 33:34Speaker 1: of the electrical circuits or wires are not exactly the
- 33:38Speaker 1: best because we did, we kept hearing the thermostat clicking
- 33:41Speaker 1: as well, you know, the, the air-con thermostat. So it
- 33:44Speaker 1: kept going like tap tap tap tap, which is quite creepy,
- 33:47Speaker 1: and then once in a while, the light will.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Flicker or turn on, right, and it happened to our
- 33:51Speaker 1: friend's room as well, but we concluded that it's just
- 33:54Speaker 1: because it's, you know, a lot of these hotels are
- 33:56Speaker 1: much older. OK, here's my story very quickly. Let's go.
- 34:00Speaker 1: This is, this happened to me in Spain. I don't
- 34:02Speaker 1: know whether I told you this last year or not,
- 34:04Speaker 1: but I was in Barcelona towards the final leg of
- 34:07Speaker 1: my trip and my hotel.
- 34:12Speaker 1: OK lah. Let's just say for two nights in a row.
- 34:16Speaker 1: There were sounds of passion. Oh no, you mean, OK, OK, OK,
- 34:20Speaker 1: sounds of passion coming from the room next to me.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Oh no. And I was thinking to myself like, OK, yeah,
- 34:28Speaker 1: you don't want to interrupt, right? Do I want to
- 34:30Speaker 1: interrupt them because, you know, if, for example, one day
- 34:33Speaker 1: if there are sounds of passion from my room, OK,
- 34:35Speaker 1: this is too much for the morning joking, I wouldn't
- 34:37Speaker 1: want to be interrupted also, if you know what I mean.
- 34:40Speaker 1: He's talking about his passion for football. Talking about um
- 34:43Speaker 1: having unfortunate noisy neighbors when you check into a hotel.
- 34:47Speaker 1: You know, sometimes it's beyond your control and then you
- 34:50Speaker 1: don't know these strangers. It's, it's can't decide what's worse, right?
- 34:53Speaker 1: You want to relax, then you've got a noisy neighbor.
- 34:56Speaker 1: So I think for Sonia and the same kind of
- 34:58Speaker 1: person we call the reception. If that doesn't work, then
- 35:01Speaker 1: we are taking matters into our own hands, which is
- 35:03Speaker 1: exactly what I did in Bali over the weekend and
- 35:05Speaker 1: actually it worked. It was effective.
- 35:08Speaker 1: We raised the voices coming from the level of the
- 35:11Speaker 1: hotel room you're in. I mean, I, I went there
- 35:14Speaker 1: for a restful weekend and it was not restful. In fact,
- 35:16Speaker 1: I gave them one chance already the previous night. I
- 35:18Speaker 1: let them do what they wanted to do. OK, I'm
- 35:21Speaker 1: gonna give you a very bad stereotype, OK? Could it
- 35:24Speaker 1: be because it's Bali? There are certain types of people
- 35:27Speaker 1: when they go there, right, they feel like they are
- 35:29Speaker 1: the king. Yes, you're not wrong. You're not wrong.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I think the unfortunate thing is also because in terms
- 35:35Speaker 1: of like, let's say currency, right, when you go to
- 35:38Speaker 1: places like Bali, not, not just Bali, by the way,
- 35:41Speaker 1: suddenly you're like, wow, your money's multiplied, and maybe you're
- 35:43Speaker 1: able to stay at a much nicer hotel in that
- 35:46Speaker 1: country versus your own country, because it's, you know, price
- 35:48Speaker 1: point wise, right? And there are a lot of entitled people,
- 35:51Speaker 1: so they just feel like they can do what they want.
- 35:58Speaker 1: So yeah, there you go.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Anyway, um, we've got time for one last call. Pearly,
- 36:02Speaker 1: thank you so much for being patient. What happened?
- 36:05Speaker 2: I went to Batam, supposed to be a relaxed, chill
- 36:09Speaker 2: with hammock, everything. Uh, so the first night we went,
- 36:13Speaker 2: everything was as expected, relaxed, very.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Chill. Then my husband said, hm, not that resort, we
- 36:19Speaker 2: should come again. The second day, while we were napping,
- 36:23Speaker 2: relaxing in the afternoon, a bunch of ladies and girls
- 36:28Speaker 2: came to the resort with their
- 36:30Speaker 2: speakers.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Could be a bachelorette party, but yes, keep going.
- 36:35Speaker 2: And they stay at the VR behind us. Oh no.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Then they were playing music. OK, never mind, they play music,
- 36:43Speaker 2: very restrict, but they start to car. OK. Pearly out
- 36:48Speaker 2: of tone.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Oh, don't know Pearly, were they Singaporean? No, just checking checking, yes.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I'm Dave right here on 987, Singapore's number one hit
- 36:59Speaker 1: music station. Thanks for joining us here this morning.
- 37:01Speaker 1: OK, only one person can walk away with this lovely
- 37:04Speaker 1: treat here today thanks to our friends who are at
- 37:06Speaker 1: Paul Bakery. Love them. They recently went through a bit
- 37:08Speaker 1: of a revamp and the food is so good. So
- 37:10Speaker 1: is their coffee. You can discover the French Edit, a
- 37:14Speaker 1: limited edition collaboration between Paul and Yo mama Boutique, blending
- 37:20Speaker 1: French pastry inspired illustrations with artisanal.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Boutique in a unique collection celebrating French heritage and local craftsmanship.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I love that. Yeah, and you, you could stand a
- 37:31Speaker 1: chance to walk away with this simply by telling us
- 37:34Speaker 1: about your experience, which I personally shared over the weekend,
- 37:37Speaker 1: having noisy neighbors, other tourists, other people who are staying
- 37:41Speaker 1: in the hotel that just cannot stop talking or making noise,
- 37:43Speaker 1: and the $100 dining experience the Paul Bakery.
- 37:46Speaker 1: It's going to. Dewi, you talked about your uni dorm situation,
- 37:52Speaker 1: and I think hall can be just as bad as
- 37:54Speaker 1: a hotel situation. Let's be real. Yeah, to catch up
- 37:57Speaker 1: with all the hilarious conversations and stories we've had, please
- 38:00Speaker 1: log on to me, listen and Spotify after the show.
- 38:03Speaker 1: We go from all the talk about migraines to something
- 38:06Speaker 1: that gives me a lot of joy.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Um, today I'm going back to my alma mater once again,
- 38:11Speaker 1: Saint Anthony's. Hello Saint Anthony Kian Convent. I know, you know,
- 38:15Speaker 1: I've always said yes, I was there primary, secondary school
- 38:18Speaker 1: and all that, 10 years of my life. So every
- 38:20Speaker 1: year I, I, I try to go back at least
- 38:23Speaker 1: once or twice for, um, talks or like school visits
- 38:26Speaker 1: and all that.
- 38:27Speaker 1: So this, this is my 2nd time going back this year.
- 38:30Speaker 1: The first time was to receive an award, so that
- 38:31Speaker 1: wasn't exactly, I didn't do much. I just went up
- 38:33Speaker 1: to receive an award. Well, at this point, given the
- 38:36Speaker 1: amount of times you've gone back there voluntarily to give
- 38:39Speaker 1: talks and to motivate the girls over there, right, if
- 38:42Speaker 1: you had a daughter, does this count as like, you know,
- 38:45Speaker 1: the parent volunteer time which you can put her in
- 38:47Speaker 1: that that that scheme if they have it like an admission, yeah, yeah,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I guess also alma mater, maybe you got a higher chance.
- 38:55Speaker 1: I don't know, but um.
- 38:56Speaker 1: I hope if I have a future kid like she
- 38:59Speaker 1: does well on her own. Are you a little Sonia
- 39:01Speaker 1: walking around one penny and garden and all that? Then
- 39:06Speaker 1: I'll have a migraine. But anyway.
- 39:10Speaker 1: So, well, of course, to catch up with the talk
- 39:12Speaker 1: about migraine, it's on Media and Spotify. But later on,
- 39:15Speaker 1: I'll be going down for career day. So cute. So
- 39:19Speaker 1: what they do is every year, they'll invite um girls
- 39:23Speaker 1: who have attended Saint Anthony's back, you know, all the
- 39:25Speaker 1: alumni in different industries. So everyone is from a different background, different.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Industry could be architects, could be from banking, and for me,
- 39:33Speaker 1: you know, media, and then we'll go back and do
- 39:35Speaker 1: a career session with them. It's just about 30 to
- 39:38Speaker 1: 45 minutes each person, and they get to ask us
- 39:41Speaker 1: questions as well. I actually Google, are there any politicians
- 39:45Speaker 1: in Singapore from Anthony's? Do you know? I don't, not
- 39:47Speaker 1: that I know of. OK, fine, at least no active ones.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Right now, we don't have any, I think, yeah, but anyway,
- 39:54Speaker 1: there are plenty of very, very successful women that always
- 39:56Speaker 1: go back for a career day, and I think regardless
- 39:59Speaker 1: of what school you're from, you have your own version
- 40:01Speaker 1: of this too. So this is just my way of
- 40:03Speaker 1: giving back. I love going back there. It brings back
- 40:05Speaker 1: so many memories, and I will keep doing it for
- 40:07Speaker 1: as long as I can. See, they closed the secondary
- 40:09Speaker 1: school down your secondary school.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I have nowhere to go back to to talk, right.
