- 0:30SPEAKER_00: I know you're busy, so we'll keep it short.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Let's take just five minutes and dive in.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Five Minute Parenting.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I'm Karen, your show host, and today I have a special guest on the show, Kathy Vinson, author of The Crown Effect: Abundant Life in a Chaotic World.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Kathy was born and raised in inner city Birmingham, Alabama.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Raised by her grandparents, Kathy learned at a very young age the importance of trusting and believing in God for everything.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: She earned a bachelor's degree in business education and a master's in educational leadership and spent 32 years in the field of education as a high school teacher and principal.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Recently retired, she writes from a small corner desk overlooking the lake where she lives with her husband of 38 years.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Kathy is a woman's motivational speaker and social media influencer who seeks to inspire and motivate women.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Her passion is encouraging women to claim all God has for them to live joyful, successful, abundant lives.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: And I'm so excited to have her on today to encourage moms and grandmoms.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: So, Kathy, welcome to the show.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you so much for having me.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: I'm very excited about it.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, me too.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: You know, we connected through our mutual publisher, Ambassador International, and I had the pleasure of reading your book and was so blessed that I just had to have you on the show.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad you can be here.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: I know you have a message of encouragement for women.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to let you jump right in.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: What would you like to share today?
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Well, first of all, thank you so much for inviting me and giving me this opportunity to share with your precious moms out there who I know because I have raised two children of my own, you know, are sometimes, if not oftentimes, or all the time, struggling with their identity, wondering if they're completely failing and scrambling to be a perfect mom in an imperfect body while living in a fallen world.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Parenting is hard, especially in this day and time.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: With children, life is busy, chaotic, and messy.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: You are constantly teaching from how to walk and talk to potty training to ABCs, how to throw and catch a ball, good manners and proper etiquette to algebra and trig, which was not something I was very good at.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: And of course, of course, teaching them about Jesus and salvation, which, you know, in all the busyness, you may constantly feel as though you are failing in this area.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: But here's the thing yes, it is important to teach your children the word of God, but it is more impactful when you actually live out his teaching in front of them.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Now, this doesn't mean you have to be perfect.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: That will never be possible.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: But it will be difficult to convince your children that they are loved unconditionally by God if you do not believe it yourself.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: How will you get them to seek his divine guidance if you feel lost in the chaos and never reach for the one who will always make a way?
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: And will they learn to trust God if you hunker down when the storms come instead of trusting him in the face of adversity?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Your children learn best from your example.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Stop stressing over being the perfect mom and getting it all right.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Just believe what God says about who you are.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Allow him to guide you through the chaos and rise up when adversity comes, trusting that God's beautiful grace will cover you.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: In other words, just believe, because when you believe, your children will believe.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: When I first married, I knew absolutely nothing about being a wife and running a household.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: My childhood was chaotic and dysfunctional, so I never knew what a healthy marriage should look like.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Then came children, both of whom were surprises.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Lacking the technology today available to parents, lacking the technology that's available to parents today, I was the nighttime baby monitor.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: During their first two years, I never made it through a single REM cycle.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: I overcompensated for everything I felt I missed out on as a child.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: I wanted to be a perfect mom, which reveals just how imperfect I was.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: I was a mess.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Ironically, though, I look back to those first years of marriage and laugh, remembering how we left our first Christmas tree up until March because we were in standoff after my husband made the mistake of saying it was my job to take down the tree.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Now clearly he had a lesson to learn.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Now I think of the mess and laugh.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: My heart smiles with the memory of snuggling up to those precious babies and listening to their heartbeats, even if it meant I got no sleep.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Recalling their laughter at birthday parties, I know they felt special and loved when I felt exhausted.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: While my marriage remains an imperfect one, we share so many wonderful memories of an imperfect life raising imperfect children who now warm my heart by insisting we carry on every tradition.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Mom, those babies are watching you.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: The best thing you can do is turn your belief into action.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: Step into love, surrender, and divine empowerment.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Allow them to see God's grace in action.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: When they grow up and leave the nest, they won't remember the mess.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: They will remember how you responded to it.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Amen.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Kathy, you have such a powerful testimony that I got the privilege of reading in your book.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And I just want to thank you for being here and sharing this encouraging message for moms.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Moms and grandmoms need encouragement.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: You know, we are all flawed and we all mess up.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: But man, God's grace is so abundant.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And I just uh I just really want to encourage women to check out your website and to check out your beautiful book.
