- 0:47Speaker 1: Thank you. All right, good morning, Central Vermont, and welcome
- 1:19Speaker 1: to a brand new day. It is so beautiful out there.
- 1:22Speaker 1: The sun is shining. You're on North Main Street in Barry, Vermont,
- 1:28Speaker 1: and I'm just so happy to be with you this morning.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Coffee's hot, feeling good, fully dressed, not half naked like
- 1:40Speaker 1: I normally am, um, Did I just say that? Showered, caffeinated,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and ready to go. Thanks for tuning in this morning.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Thanks for getting your day started with me. Thanks for
- 1:56Speaker 1: just connecting with me here at Fly on the Wall
- 1:59Speaker 1: Productions and the Airedown Podcast on North Main Street in Barrie. Yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 1: look it out. I'm seeing lots of traffic going by.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'm seeing some smiling faces and people laughing. And one
- 2:15Speaker 1: guy just a little while ago sitting on the park
- 2:17Speaker 1: bench here. I wish he was still there. Just with a,
- 2:25Speaker 1: you could see the steam coming up out of his
- 2:28Speaker 1: coffee cup and just leaning back with the sunshine in
- 2:32Speaker 1: his face. That's a great way to start the day.
- 2:36Speaker 1: We're on the web at airedoutvt.com. I don't know if
- 2:39Speaker 1: you've had a chance to hop on and watch. Have
- 2:43Speaker 1: a look at our website, but please do. We've got
- 2:45Speaker 1: a lot of stuff to talk about. First of all,
- 2:48Speaker 1: what do you think of these glasses from Optical Expressions?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Do you like them? I'm thinking about getting another pair,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and I've been looking at some options, and not that
- 3:04Speaker 1: I don't love these. I love these. I wear them
- 3:06Speaker 1: every day. Screwed without them. But I'm looking at some
- 3:13Speaker 1: different styles. Just have another pair around. I find that
- 3:17Speaker 1: these I need here at the studio, but back at
- 3:19Speaker 1: the house, I'm getting yelled at all the time. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: can't believe you can't see that. So we'll see what happens.
- 3:28Speaker 1: But maybe I'll get over there on the fourth floor
- 3:32Speaker 1: of the Blanchard Block in Barrie and send you some
- 3:37Speaker 1: pictures of... what I'm thinking about for the new specs.
- 3:42Speaker 1: We'll see what happens. So much to talk about. Does
- 3:47Speaker 1: anybody know what's going to be, and I'm serious here,
- 3:52Speaker 1: what's going to be done with all of the political
- 3:56Speaker 1: signs after Tuesday? How many political signs are there in Vermont? Billions? Billions? Millions? Trillions?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Hundreds of thousands? What do you think? Really? I mean, realistically,
- 4:19Speaker 1: it's probably, what, tens of thousands? What do you guess?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Or as Sherilyn says, what do you reckon? And what's
- 4:36Speaker 1: going to be done with all of these signs afterwards?
- 4:40Speaker 1: Are the candidates going to be going around and collecting
- 4:44Speaker 1: them and pulling them up off of lawns and roadsides everywhere?
- 4:52Speaker 1: And then if so, what's going to happen with them next?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Do they have friends, family, volunteers, supporters helping them out?
- 5:04Speaker 1: will these signs all be ground up recycled? I don't know.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I honestly, I don't know. I was just curious. I
- 5:12Speaker 1: was just wondering about that this morning while I was
- 5:15Speaker 1: driving in. I'll tell you what's in my mailbox though.
- 5:17Speaker 1: My God, look at this. I mean, there's just one
- 5:25Speaker 1: political ad after another. They're everywhere. Um, I wonder what
- 5:36Speaker 1: the price tag is for all of these. I wonder
- 5:41Speaker 1: how much this... Oh, EC Fiber. What this kind of
- 5:49Speaker 1: stuff is costing. There's got to be an incredible price
- 5:55Speaker 1: tag on this. This one. Did you see this one? Oh, God. Ah. Man, sunshine,
- 6:05Speaker 1: daytime highs today. Are we breaking records? Probably 68 degrees.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Then maybe some showers on the early side of tonight.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I'm saying maybe. We'll get down around 49. A special
- 6:21Speaker 1: weather statement that just came through. We have a fire
- 6:25Speaker 1: danger statement from the National Weather Service issued yesterday. just
- 6:31Speaker 1: a couple of hours ago, and it covers most of
- 6:33Speaker 1: Vermont except the Connecticut River Valley and parts of southern Vermont.
- 6:38Speaker 1: The details, here we go. Southwest winds 10 to 15
- 6:42Speaker 1: miles per hour with gusts around 20 to 35 miles
- 6:47Speaker 1: per hour in the Champlain Valley. The humidity is super low.
- 6:53Speaker 1: These are all the things they take into factor, 45
- 6:55Speaker 1: to 50% relative humidity, so low. temperatures, 60 to 68,
- 7:05Speaker 1: somewhere in that ballpark. So we got warm temperatures, we
- 7:08Speaker 1: got low humidity, we got a drought going on, drying
- 7:15Speaker 1: out the, what do they call it, leaf litter. So
- 7:22Speaker 1: if any fires start, the National Weather Service is saying
- 7:26Speaker 1: it's pretty much a guarantee that it's going to spread quickly. So,
- 7:32Speaker 1: If you're bonfiring on Halloween or whatever this weekend, just
- 7:38Speaker 1: be like super, super, super careful because things can get
- 7:41Speaker 1: out of control very quickly. It happened to me a
- 7:45Speaker 1: couple of years ago. Huge embarrassment. Huge embarrassment for me.
- 7:53Speaker 1: And I don't know if you've heard this story, but
- 7:54Speaker 1: if you have, you know what I'm talking about. And
- 7:56Speaker 1: if you haven't, I don't know that I want to
- 7:59Speaker 1: share it again on the air. It was horrible. But
- 8:02Speaker 1: in short, this is this weather statement from the National
- 8:05Speaker 1: Weather Service. And a lot of us, when we hear this,
- 8:07Speaker 1: we're like, oh, that's got to be a storm. It's
- 8:09Speaker 1: not a storm. It's just a heads up that any
- 8:11Speaker 1: outdoor fire today could spread fast. All right. So, again,
- 8:15Speaker 1: sunny skies, 68 today. Going to be beautiful. Chilly tonight.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Wait a minute. Hold on. No, not tonight. 49. That's great.
- 8:25Speaker 1: That's a fantastic temperature. No matter where you are, what
- 8:30Speaker 1: you're doing. Maybe you're running over to Jimsville's Haunted Barn
- 8:33Speaker 1: or carving for Kay. That's a pretty good forecast. Again,
- 8:39Speaker 1: just a slight possibility of a passing shower moving through
- 8:44Speaker 1: on the early side of tonight. Okay. Tomorrow, Friday, mostly cloudy, 53.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Still real, real nice for this time of year. Saturday, Halloween,
- 8:54Speaker 1: mostly sunny. A little cooler. Highs around 44. 25 for
- 8:59Speaker 1: Halloween night, so bundle up. Get the kids dressed up
- 9:02Speaker 1: warmly if they're going to be out trick-or-treating. Okay? I'm
- 9:07Speaker 1: not seeing any snow in the forecast, though, for Halloween night,
- 9:10Speaker 1: so that's good. Happy birthday today to, let's see, Frank Campbell,
- 9:18Speaker 1: Daryl Stone, Brandi Burke, Kate Lewis, all in the birthday
- 9:23Speaker 1: list today. Road construction report from V-Trans. Looks like 89,
- 9:28Speaker 1: same deal. They're resurfacing from exit 10 and exit 8,
- 9:35Speaker 1: that whole area. Expect southbound lane closures until 4 o'clock
- 9:40Speaker 1: this afternoon, about a mile north of exit 8. Keep
- 9:45Speaker 1: the speed in check. 89 paving in the Bethel-Brookfield area.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Good morning. Getting a wave here. other side of the glass.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Single lane closures, 55 mile per hour. That's going on
- 10:01Speaker 1: until 6 p.m. tonight. Bethel, Brookfield area on 89 if
- 10:06Speaker 1: you're traveling. Exit 3, Royalton. The bridge work there, what
- 10:10Speaker 1: a pain in the ass. I'm just saying. It is.
- 10:13Speaker 1: That whole area. And that's going to, what now? I'm
- 10:20Speaker 1: just seeing that bridge work at Exit 3, Royalton, big bridge,
- 10:26Speaker 1: is going to continue through the fall of 2027. What now?
- 10:36Speaker 1: With width restrictions. Fall of 2027. I thought they were
- 10:44Speaker 1: buttoning that up a lot sooner. That sucks. But what
- 10:48Speaker 1: is that? The White River, right? That's a wide one.
- 10:54Speaker 1: So I'm not, part of me is not surprised, but God,
- 10:57Speaker 1: it's anyway, a world series last night. I don't know
- 11:00Speaker 1: if you saw it. I was thrilled to hear the news.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I didn't get a chance to watch it, but the
- 11:07Speaker 1: Milwaukee Brewers champions for the first time in franchise history.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And I said a couple of weeks ago, I'd like, yeah,
- 11:16Speaker 1: maybe three, three or four weeks ago, something like that,
- 11:18Speaker 1: that I would love to see Milwaukee. I like to,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I tend to lean toward the underdog, um, that I
- 11:25Speaker 1: would love to see them win. And they did, which
- 11:29Speaker 1: is so great. They beat the Tampa Bay race four
- 11:32Speaker 1: to one game five last night. They took the series
- 11:35Speaker 1: four to one, uh, Thursday night football tonight. We got
- 11:38Speaker 1: the Panthers and Packers streaming on prime video. Um, Hope
- 11:44Speaker 1: to see a little bit of that. We got the
- 11:46Speaker 1: Bruins tonight at St. Louis, 8 p.m. at the Enterprise Center.
- 11:51Speaker 1: We got the Patriots playing Sunday at Miami, 325 in
- 11:56Speaker 1: the afternoon. Local, sports, rice. The boys shutting out U32
- 12:03Speaker 1: for zip yesterday. And I want to just give some
- 12:09Speaker 1: kudos and some love to Lily's team, the Waits River
- 12:15Speaker 1: Valley School Wildcats last night. Final soccer game of the season.
- 12:21Speaker 1: And they took on a really tough team, Williamstown, which
- 12:27Speaker 1: was made up of all girls. Saldy Field last night. And, man,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I'll tell you, everybody on the Waits River side was
- 12:42Speaker 1: so impressed with that Williamstown team last night. Those kids,
- 12:49Speaker 1: not only are they super tough, but they're super talented.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And big props to whoever their coach is. But holy crap,
- 12:59Speaker 1: was that a fun game last night. Low scoring? Yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 1: I know. Tense. And Waits River, our team, got lucky, frankly.
- 13:13Speaker 1: With a pass from Lily to Chris. Chris shooting for goal. Barely,
- 13:22Speaker 1: barely getting, it was Ryan that tipped it in. And
- 13:30Speaker 1: if it wasn't for Ryan, that ball would have rolled
- 13:33Speaker 1: just past the goal post last night. It went in.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And yeah, we went wild. And it was one zip.
- 13:42Speaker 1: The final. Wildcats got the game last night. But just
- 13:48Speaker 1: a big, big kudos to Williamstown. Man, those, and it
- 13:54Speaker 1: was all girls. Not that it should matter. But those
- 13:58Speaker 1: girls were freaking tough, man, last night. Any parents that
- 14:07Speaker 1: are listening from Williamstown that have a kid on that team,
- 14:11Speaker 1: Very impressed last night. And I also want to say this,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and maybe you know the answer to this, and if
- 14:20Speaker 1: you do, you can drop it in the comments, because
- 14:22Speaker 1: I'd like to know. I really would. I was thinking
- 14:25Speaker 1: this last night. JD, you kind of Googled it. I'd
- 14:30Speaker 1: like to know who it was, who it is that's
- 14:36Speaker 1: responsible for putting those lights up at salty field in
- 14:42Speaker 1: Williamstown because whoever it is, and I'm, I'm assuming it's
- 14:50Speaker 1: a good group of, of people. Um, and I don't
- 14:53Speaker 1: know when those lights went up, but man, were we
- 14:56Speaker 1: spoiled last night to have those lights and it looked incredible.
- 15:04Speaker 1: You could see everything on that field and, uh, If
- 15:09Speaker 1: I ever find out who it is that installed those
- 15:15Speaker 1: lights up there, whoever fundraised for it or whatever they
- 15:18Speaker 1: had to do, I'd like to personally thank them because
- 15:23Speaker 1: we're not used to that kind of stuff. Frankly, we're spoiled.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I mean, we are so privileged to have a small
- 15:32Speaker 1: sports area like Salty Field in Williamstown with lights installed.
- 15:38Speaker 1: That was cool. I was so impressed last night when
- 15:41Speaker 1: I saw that. So if you know anybody in Williamstown
- 15:47Speaker 1: that's responsible for getting those lights put in, and I
- 15:52Speaker 1: don't know when that happened. I don't know how long
- 15:53Speaker 1: ago that happened. But if you know anyone, please tell
- 15:56Speaker 1: them that we're talking about them on Aired Out and
- 15:58Speaker 1: we're thanking them because it was incredible. Biggest headlines that
- 16:04Speaker 1: are trending this morning, I heard about this last night,
- 16:07Speaker 1: but now I'm I read a little bit more about
- 16:10Speaker 1: it this morning. The two high-speed trains that collided in Spain.
- 16:15Speaker 1: 68 people killed. Hundreds injured. One train was running over
- 16:30Speaker 1: 120 miles per hour and hit a second train that
- 16:32Speaker 1: was Stopped on the tracks. Wow. You know, in the
- 16:50Speaker 1: brief conversation that I had with a friend last night
- 16:56Speaker 1: was how in the hell can something like this happen?
- 17:00Speaker 1: And this is the second time in Spain. With all
- 17:08Speaker 1: of the technology that we have, it just seems like
- 17:17Speaker 1: this could have easily been prevented. I don't know. I
- 17:21Speaker 1: don't know anything about the rail system, but I know
- 17:24Speaker 1: that it's one track, and we can only have one
- 17:28Speaker 1: train on it at a time. I mean, it seems
- 17:31Speaker 1: pretty simple. But a train running... just over 120 miles
- 17:39Speaker 1: per hour, hitting a stopped train on the tracks. What
- 17:46Speaker 1: a tragedy. Israel's election ended without a clear governing majority yesterday.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Exit polls showing voters split and neither Prime Minister Netanyahu's
- 18:04Speaker 1: block nor the opposition's were able to claim victory. What's
- 18:13Speaker 1: that going to do to the whole situation? How's that
- 18:22Speaker 1: going to play into things? It's so tragic to see
- 18:32Speaker 1: this war continue to spiral out of control. It's amazing.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Things aren't getting better. In Brazil... Oh, man. I don't
- 18:47Speaker 1: even want to cover that story. I really don't. Everything...
- 18:56Speaker 1: It's like all of the world headlines that I'm reading...
- 19:05Speaker 1: Everything's a cluster right now. Not... J.D., don't be so negative.
- 19:10Speaker 1: All right. Let's see. Record high tides flooded coastal communities
- 19:17Speaker 1: on both U.S. coasts. Yeah. We've got the full moon
- 19:25Speaker 1: up there that's not helping. Yeah. What else do we have?
- 19:36Speaker 1: Glad nobody was hurt. Here's what happened last night at
- 19:41Speaker 1: the Trap Family Lodge. And thanks, Taylor, for bringing this up.
- 19:48Speaker 1: A call came in around... 7.20 for a working fire
- 19:55Speaker 1: at Trap Hill Road. The quote that dispatch got was
- 20:02Speaker 1: heavy fire from the main lodge, which, of course, scared
- 20:07Speaker 1: a lot of people. That turned out to not be correct.
- 20:12Speaker 1: The fire was at a couple of the villas. Villas
- 20:17Speaker 1: 11 and 12. One connected building with two villas was
- 20:29Speaker 1: also involved. About a half mile from the main lodge.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Flames were through the roof. in some of the photos
- 20:40Speaker 1: that were going around on social media, which happens quickly,
- 20:47Speaker 1: mutual aid from Waterbury, Morrisville, Hyde Park, Cambridge, and Johnson
- 20:55Speaker 1: were all unseen. Um, that's a, that's a massive response
- 21:06Speaker 1: as it should be. Um, But that's huge. Everything apparently
- 21:13Speaker 1: under control as of about 8.30 last night. Crews were
- 21:21Speaker 1: there through most of the night putting water on it
- 21:27Speaker 1: and hitting it hard to keep it from reigniting. And,
- 21:32Speaker 1: you know, this is, they know how dry things are.
- 21:37Speaker 1: They know. about this special weather statement coming in from
- 21:43Speaker 1: the National Weather Service saying that the high winds, the
- 21:47Speaker 1: low humidity, the dry conditions, the drought that we're under,
- 21:50Speaker 1: the things are really risky right now. They know that.
- 21:58Speaker 1: So things could have very easily gone south last night.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Thank God we've got water and thank God we've got uh,
- 22:08Speaker 1: some rivers close by to pull from, which was happening, uh, with, uh,
- 22:14Speaker 1: some of these tankers. Um, all guests are safe. Everybody's fine.
- 22:21Speaker 1: The lodge itself was not affected. When, when did it
- 22:25Speaker 1: burn down again? Was it 1985? When that, when the,
- 22:30Speaker 1: when the original lodge burned down, I think it was
- 22:34Speaker 1: mid eighties sometime. Um, the cause is still under investigation. Um,
- 22:44Speaker 1: and I'm watching the story to see if we have
- 22:48Speaker 1: any information about, uh, the extent of the damage, but scary. Uh,
- 22:56Speaker 1: everybody's out fine. And again, uh, the main lodge untouched. So, um, Taylor,
- 23:05Speaker 1: thanks for the reminder on that. It was a huge,
- 23:07Speaker 1: huge story last night. And I was busy running around
- 23:12Speaker 1: doing all kinds of things. I invested just about two
- 23:18Speaker 1: hours of my life last night. Actually, it was a
- 23:23Speaker 1: little bit more. It was like two hours and 15
- 23:25Speaker 1: minutes at Applebee's. But once I survived that experience... I
- 23:34Speaker 1: got to carving for Kay on Rudd Farm Road. And
- 23:40Speaker 1: I got a chance to see Ruth and Sarah and
- 23:44Speaker 1: Kevin and brought with me some students from Waits River
- 23:53Speaker 1: Valley School who were some of the carvers of these
- 23:56Speaker 1: jack-o'-lanterns on display. And they got to see their work
- 24:02Speaker 1: their creativity in person, which was really awesome. They were
- 24:08Speaker 1: looking for their jack-o'-lanterns amongst a field of around 350.
- 24:18Speaker 1: And they each found their jack-o'-lantern. Lit up. Thank you
- 24:26Speaker 1: for the donations, by the way, of lights. But enough
- 24:31Speaker 1: fairy lights. were donated, and all of the pumpkins were
- 24:38Speaker 1: lit up and looked so beautiful last night. I don't
- 24:41Speaker 1: know if you got a chance to see me live
- 24:43Speaker 1: streaming from Carving for K last night. If you didn't,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I'll be doing it again. And a big, huge tip
- 24:53Speaker 1: of the hat to all of those that donated not
- 24:59Speaker 1: only pumpkins... Lighthouse Hill Farm up in Williamstown, my God,
- 25:05Speaker 1: gave me a whole truckload of pumpkins that I delivered
- 25:09Speaker 1: to the Waits River Valley School for the kids to
- 25:12Speaker 1: carve up. Sophie and Seth, you guys are amazing. And
- 25:21Speaker 1: those kids loved those pumpkins. They're the old wrinkly ones,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know, the ones that look like, you know, like
- 25:30Speaker 1: an old person. I don't know what that style of
- 25:33Speaker 1: pumpkin is called, but the kids loved him. They laughed
- 25:36Speaker 1: so hard. Said it looked like me. And it's not
- 25:42Speaker 1: just Lighthouse Hill Farm in Williamstown. So many others helped
- 25:51Speaker 1: out and donated. Ruth was telling us Wabi Jewelers, Danfecto,
- 26:01Speaker 1: And that's just some of it. And the Girl Scouts
- 26:05Speaker 1: that got up there and were carving and helping. There's loading, unloading, carving, gutting, cutting,
- 26:14Speaker 1: fairy lights. There's a lot, you know, placing the jack-o'-lanterns
- 26:19Speaker 1: just so. There's a lot going in logistically to something
- 26:22Speaker 1: like this to pull off. And it was just fantastic.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I know, I'm on a rant here. Before I forget,
- 26:33Speaker 1: and I hope I don't, I got to give you
- 26:35Speaker 1: an update on 20 stores in 20 days. We're winded
- 26:39Speaker 1: down here. We have a couple of days left. I
- 26:42Speaker 1: want to mention briefly here the story that is, pardon
- 26:56Speaker 1: the pun here, with the fire damage or fire warnings.
- 27:04Speaker 1: The story that has literally caught on fire here about
- 27:08Speaker 1: Berry City police officer Matthew Frey, who has been placed
- 27:15Speaker 1: on administrative leave and that the criminal cases that he's
- 27:22Speaker 1: involved with are being dismissed after he reportedly sought out
- 27:27Speaker 1: sexual conduct with a defendant. So let me first just
- 27:37Speaker 1: say this. I've seen as many of the media reports
- 27:47Speaker 1: as I can. I'm trying to keep up with it.
- 27:51Speaker 1: It has flooded the local social media. When I say local,
- 27:59Speaker 1: I mean Vermont. It's a huge, huge story. Nobody wants
- 28:07Speaker 1: a corrupt cop in their community. No one. And let
- 28:17Speaker 1: me say this. The last thing that I would ever do, ever,
- 28:26Speaker 1: and I want to make this abundantly clear, is defend...
- 28:31Speaker 1: a crooked cop or defend someone who is acting irresponsibly, inappropriately, dangerously, whatever.
- 28:45Speaker 1: So I'm most certainly not defending Matthew Frey. I say
- 28:54Speaker 1: this with, with responsibility. that it is always important to remember,
- 29:05Speaker 1: as somebody posted, that these are allegations and not proven findings.
- 29:15Speaker 1: This investigation, I'm guessing, is going to take a while
- 29:23Speaker 1: and it's going to pick up momentum and it's going
- 29:26Speaker 1: to get messier and messier. And I'm guessing that there
- 29:32Speaker 1: will be some that will defend this police officer, former
- 29:39Speaker 1: police officer. And I saw a little bit of that
- 29:43Speaker 1: last night. Defending his character. Media pushed yesterday that Orange
- 29:55Speaker 1: County State's Attorney Colin Seaman issued a Brady letter saying
- 30:04Speaker 1: that his office has reason to believe that Frey had
- 30:08Speaker 1: sexual relations with a woman that he had arrested while
- 30:12Speaker 1: her criminal case was still pending. Does that raise some
- 30:21Speaker 1: credibility issues? You bet your ass. This is a messy,
- 30:35Speaker 1: messy thing here. I think that there are a lot
- 30:42Speaker 1: of cases, there's a lot of people that are thrilled
- 30:46Speaker 1: that this is happening because they're getting off. Digger alone
- 30:54Speaker 1: reported dozens. That's dozens with an S on the end.
- 31:03Speaker 1: of cases that are currently now in limbo related to
- 31:09Speaker 1: Matthew Frey. WCAX reported 50, five zero, 50 cases that
- 31:22Speaker 1: have been completely tossed out. 50. Vermont Public is reporting
- 31:40Speaker 1: dozens of cases are under review. That's a lot. That's
- 31:50Speaker 1: a lot. How this is going to shake out, God
- 31:58Speaker 1: only knows. I don't think it's going to be going
- 32:04Speaker 1: away anytime soon. And I understand that there's a big
- 32:10Speaker 1: investigation going on. And I understand that the media and
- 32:16Speaker 1: many of us are foaming at the mouth waiting for
- 32:19Speaker 1: details about Matthew Frey and what's happening and what happened
- 32:24Speaker 1: and what's going to happen. Vermont Daily Chronicle posted up
- 32:30Speaker 1: some social media last night or yesterday with some photographs too.
- 32:37Speaker 1: So listen, it's important to remember that this kind of
- 32:44Speaker 1: stuff can happen anywhere and it can happen in small
- 32:48Speaker 1: town Vermont. And it did. How surprised should all of
- 32:57Speaker 1: us be? And I asked, I asked that question from, uh,
- 33:06Speaker 1: from my heart and a little bit from my head,
- 33:08Speaker 1: but really, how surprised should we be? Well, we're small
- 33:15Speaker 1: town Vermont. Everybody knows everybody. We should be held to
- 33:20Speaker 1: high standards or higher standards. But I ask you, how stunned, really,
- 33:30Speaker 1: how stunned were you when you heard about this Berry
- 33:35Speaker 1: City police officer, Matthew Frey? Could it have been something worse? Listen,
- 33:54Speaker 1: corruption lies in many different ways. Where's Many different faces.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I think that our community has taken a little bit
- 34:11Speaker 1: of a hit. I think our local police department has
- 34:20Speaker 1: some PR work that needs to be done. They know that,
- 34:31Speaker 1: they well know, Because I make it very well known
- 34:37Speaker 1: that they've always got a microphone here waiting for them
- 34:40Speaker 1: if they would like to get anything out publicly. Chief
- 34:45Speaker 1: Vail is reminded of that often by me. And I'm
- 34:51Speaker 1: not going to press him. But he knows that if
- 34:54Speaker 1: he wants to get something out there, beyond social media,
- 34:59Speaker 1: beyond a written post, he knows where to come. But yeah.
- 35:13Speaker 1: And I know a lot of viewers are like, well,
- 35:16Speaker 1: they're just going to backpedal it and blah, blah, blah,
- 35:18Speaker 1: dust it under the rug. Let's see. Let's see. What's
- 35:25Speaker 1: going to happen here? Will this story fizzle out? Will it...
- 35:36Speaker 1: lose its luster? Will we forget about it? Or will
- 35:44Speaker 1: it be extremely public and alive in our community for
- 35:56Speaker 1: some time? Transparency is massive. Accountability is massive. Let's see
- 36:11Speaker 1: what happens. Let's try really hard not to overreact on
- 36:18Speaker 1: social media, not to overreact in our heads, in our minds.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Think objectively. Take a step back, deep breath. Don't react
- 36:30Speaker 1: with your keyboard. Take your time. before you write something.
- 36:39Speaker 1: And look at things as objectively as you can. Is
- 36:44Speaker 1: it a huge story? You bet. Is it going to
- 36:47Speaker 1: go away? I don't know. I wonder. But there's, I mean,
- 36:53Speaker 1: look at this. Dozens of cases in limbo. 50 cases
- 36:57Speaker 1: completely tossed out. And dozens of cases under review. This is,
- 37:07Speaker 1: there's a lot of residual that's going on here with
- 37:10Speaker 1: this story. I see that, I see some comments coming in. Just, again,
- 37:28Speaker 1: keep them coming. I want to hear what you have
- 37:30Speaker 1: to say. U.S., Route 5 last night in Wells River,
- 37:37Speaker 1: Newberry area. Closed near Bible Hill Road. Crews worked a
- 37:45Speaker 1: huge crash last night. VT Alert was going nuts with it.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Long delays expected. Dispatch audio transcript of the response, which
- 38:02Speaker 1: I read. early this morning, described a single car crash
- 38:06Speaker 1: with a trapped female driver. I don't really know much
- 38:12Speaker 1: more than that. I don't know that I really need
- 38:16Speaker 1: to know much more than that, other than it was
- 38:19Speaker 1: a horrible crash. I hope that this woman is alive,
- 38:26Speaker 1: and I hope that she's okay, whoever she is, and
- 38:31Speaker 1: that her family is Okay, as well. I hate seeing
- 38:37Speaker 1: stuff like this. Just like I hated seeing that the
- 38:41Speaker 1: interstate was recently closed from another crash. We got to
- 38:46Speaker 1: slow down. We got to pay attention, especially in construction areas.
- 38:52Speaker 1: What else is going on in Vermont? Vermont and Nova
- 38:54Speaker 1: Scotia signing a three-year agreement to explore bringing Nova Scotia
- 38:59Speaker 1: offshore wind power. to Vermont's grid connections. Huh. No specific projects, timelines,
- 39:11Speaker 1: or money that's been announced with this, but that's one
- 39:15Speaker 1: that I'm going to be paying attention to. Let's see.
- 39:20Speaker 1: We have the $ 15. 3 million funding package that Vermont just
- 39:26Speaker 1: approved to expand home heating aid and crisis fuel programs. Wow. $ 15. 3 million.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Election Day on Tuesday. Governor Phil Scott. reminding and urging
- 39:48Speaker 1: Vermonters to keep calm, keep things civil. I guess there's
- 39:52Speaker 1: been some stories that have made their rounds through social
- 39:58Speaker 1: media about some pretty heated confrontations between voters and town
- 40:02Speaker 1: clerks lately, and our governor reminding everybody to just take
- 40:06Speaker 1: a deep breath. Go to the polls. If you're not
- 40:12Speaker 1: happy about something, Exercise that with your vote. Okay? Let's see.
- 40:20Speaker 1: What else do we have going on in Vermont? Just
- 40:23Speaker 1: glancing here. Oh, the four-day muzzleloader season for antlerless deer
- 40:30Speaker 1: opens today. Runs through November 1st, which is after tomorrow.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Is it Saturday? No, Sunday. Sunday is the first. Wow.
- 40:43Speaker 1: November 1st. Vermont State Police have arrested Terry Williams, he's
- 40:48Speaker 1: the state senator from Pulteney, for an alleged assault against
- 40:54Speaker 1: a family member. Plead not guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault charge.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Political career over? That's my question. Probably. Probably. can happen
- 41:17Speaker 1: to any of us. Barry Unified School Board. Boy, are
- 41:27Speaker 1: those buzzwords. The fourth budget proposal of the year. Going
- 41:37Speaker 1: 100 miles an hour straight forward toward a vote. Do
- 41:48Speaker 1: you think the critics have been a little quieter? It
- 41:52Speaker 1: seems that way. All I'm saying is it seems like that.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I don't know. What say you? $ 56. 6 million. Will it
- 42:05Speaker 1: be the magic number at this time? $ 56. 6 million. Wow. Man,
- 42:27Speaker 1: we got a lot of stuff going on, don't we, though, locally?
- 42:29Speaker 1: National news. We got the Federal Reserve. Held interest rates
- 42:35Speaker 1: steady among inflation. Hey, there's great news, Glenn. Just a
- 42:42Speaker 1: couple of days before the midterms. We have the House
- 42:47Speaker 1: Judiciary Democrats releasing a report alleging ties between Trump and
- 42:54Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein. You're kidding me. Along with claims of a
- 43:00Speaker 1: Justice Department cover-up. Really? Stunned. I know G's going to
- 43:07Speaker 1: be tomorrow morning. New York Times reported that the campaign
- 43:13Speaker 1: of Alaska's Democratic candidate Mary Peltola recruited a candidate with
- 43:21Speaker 1: the same name as the Republican incumbent in an effort
- 43:27Speaker 1: to confuse voters. I'm stunned. I'm also being sarcastic. Surprised
- 43:39Speaker 1: by this? Let's see. An attempted kidnapping in Hawaii in
- 43:48Speaker 1: broad daylight, all caught on surveillance camera. I haven't seen
- 43:52Speaker 1: that video yet. But that's apparently a story that's got
- 44:00Speaker 1: some national legs this morning. And, of course, the manhunt,
- 44:05Speaker 1: and I mentioned this yesterday, for the convicted killer who
- 44:08Speaker 1: escaped from prison in Tennessee, that manhunt continues. just really freaky.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Anytime there's a prison break, especially from a maximum security facility,
- 44:28Speaker 1: I always scratch my head and say, how in the
- 44:32Speaker 1: hell is that possible? Crazy stuff. Community news. We've got
- 44:39Speaker 1: a lot of stuff going on. We talked an awful
- 44:41Speaker 1: lot this morning about Carving for K, Ruth Weeks, Hopping
- 44:47Speaker 1: on the Airdow podcast this morning, a little later than
- 44:55Speaker 1: when we were talking about it, but it was just
- 44:58Speaker 1: incredible to see last night. And 350 pumpkins crushing last
- 45:08Speaker 1: year's record, which was like 200 and something. But it'll
- 45:12Speaker 1: be back on tonight at dark. That's when things will
- 45:16Speaker 1: be glowing. And it looks amazing. It just really does.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Get over there. Wheels for warmth. We've got tire drop-offs
- 45:26Speaker 1: going on today and tomorrow from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- 45:31Speaker 1: at the Vermont Granite Museum in Barrie. And, of course,
- 45:34Speaker 1: the big sale on Saturday morning. 8 a.m. is when
- 45:37Speaker 1: it starts in Barrie and at Casella Construction in Pittsburgh.
- 45:46Speaker 1: So if you have some old tires that are laying around,
- 45:51Speaker 1: maybe you know that they're bad, or maybe you're questioning
- 45:55Speaker 1: whether they're bad. Just bring them today over at the
- 46:01Speaker 1: Vermont Granite Museum in Barrie. And V-Trans is right there.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Department of Transportation, DMV, they're all right there. They're going
- 46:12Speaker 1: to be checking those tires, and if they're safe, If
- 46:15Speaker 1: they're deemed safe, they will be sold. And if they're not,
- 46:23Speaker 1: they'll be chipped up right there. Casella's got the shredder,
- 46:30Speaker 1: and they're going to take care of those tires the
- 46:32Speaker 1: right way so that they don't end up in our
- 46:36Speaker 1: rivers and streams and roadsides. This is such an incredible event.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Year number 22, Wheels for Warmth. $ 30 cap. on tires.
- 46:50Speaker 1: So the most of money that you're going to be
- 46:52Speaker 1: spending is 120 bucks for a great set of treads.
- 46:57Speaker 1: All season, snow tire, whatever. All different sizes. Get there
- 47:02Speaker 1: Saturday morning, 8 a.m. till noon. 10 o'clock I think
- 47:06Speaker 1: is when they're going to start dropping the price of
- 47:09Speaker 1: tires by half. What else is happening in our community?
- 47:15Speaker 1: I don't know. There's so much. There's so much. Almost
- 47:21Speaker 1: every day, I get a text. Janie, did you talk
- 47:26Speaker 1: about the bup, bup, bup? We got this bake sale
- 47:30Speaker 1: going on. We got this craft fair going on. There's
- 47:33Speaker 1: so many things happening. Jimsville's Haunted Barn, East Montpelier, final weekend,
- 47:40Speaker 1: tonight through Sunday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, November 1st,
- 47:48Speaker 1: is going to be the last night. Go. Vermont Children's
- 47:54Speaker 1: Miracle Network, or I should say the Children's Miracle Network,
- 47:59Speaker 1: because I think they're out of Boston, the beneficiary of
- 48:03Speaker 1: the 50-50 raffle. Go. Get your scare on at Jimsville's
- 48:09Speaker 1: Haunted Barn, tonight through Sunday night. Again, Sunday night is
- 48:13Speaker 1: the last one. 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Route 14 south.
- 48:20Speaker 1: East Montpelier. We got the Montpelier downtown ramble going on tonight.
- 48:27Speaker 1: 5 till 7. Shops open late. Live music. Hot cider.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Hot chocolate. Perfect weather. 49 degrees tonight for the low.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Get yourself out of the house. Come on, Glenn. The
- 48:45Speaker 1: Glow Ride is tomorrow, tomorrow night, from 545 to 645
- 48:53Speaker 1: at the Statehouse in Montpelier. That's where everybody's reading or meeting.
- 49:00Speaker 1: I'm not sure what the Glow Ride is. I think
- 49:03Speaker 1: it's people that are, everyone getting together and getting the
- 49:09Speaker 1: glow on their bikes, bicycles. and having fun with an
- 49:18Speaker 1: escorted ride in and around. Montpelier. I think that's what
- 49:21Speaker 1: it is. Could I be wrong? Very much so. But anyway,
- 49:27Speaker 1: downtown Montpelier trick or treating going on Saturday from four
- 49:32Speaker 1: to five thirty. State Street is going to be closed
- 49:37Speaker 1: to all traffic. Keep that in mind. Again, Saturday, 4 p.m.
- 49:44Speaker 1: until 5.30, an hour and a half of no State
- 49:46Speaker 1: Street for traffic, okay? Halloween in Barrie. Is it huge? Yes,
- 49:52Speaker 1: it is. Every single year. We've got the costume parade.
- 49:57Speaker 1: We've got trunk-or-treating. This is Saturday, starting at 2.30 at
- 50:01Speaker 1: Courier Park. Talked about it yesterday on the air. It's
- 50:06Speaker 1: going to be huge. We got the Altrich Library, the
- 50:11Speaker 1: annual Halloween party. That's Saturday, 10.30 until noon. We got
- 50:19Speaker 1: the Barry Opera House. Acorn Youth Arts is presenting Sleepy Hollow,
- 50:25Speaker 1: the musical. That's Friday through Sunday. We got the Vermont
- 50:29Speaker 1: 10-Miler on Sunday at 9 a.m. Decided I'm not going
- 50:36Speaker 1: to be running this year in that. Joking. I run
- 50:42Speaker 1: when I'm chased. What else is happening? I think that's
- 50:50Speaker 1: kind of it for community stuff, news stuff. We got
- 50:56Speaker 1: some sports in there. Man, it was great to see
- 50:58Speaker 1: the Brewers last night. My God. Well, let's see. Yeah,
- 51:05Speaker 1: I think that's pretty much it for our little morning
- 51:10Speaker 1: debrief here. Look at these. In the mailbox. My mailbox.
- 51:16Speaker 1: This is just stuff from home. Look at this. Incredible.
- 51:25Speaker 1: They keep coming in. I could... Goodbye. poster the whole
- 51:35Speaker 1: wall here if I wanted to I've got more at
- 51:39Speaker 1: home you should see the kitchen table don't burn them
- 51:45Speaker 1: though fire warnings listen if I am in all seriousness
- 51:57Speaker 1: now if I am forgetting anything that is a community
- 52:02Speaker 1: event or anything in the news, if I'm missing the
- 52:07Speaker 1: boat on something, let me know. Okay? I hope that
- 52:17Speaker 1: you have a fantastic Thursday. And I really, I mean that.
- 52:22Speaker 1: I hope that you're paying attention to great things going
- 52:29Speaker 1: on in our community like this, the Beatle Ball coming
- 52:32Speaker 1: up on Saturday night. or Mighty Mystic performing Saturday night
- 52:42Speaker 1: at the Town Hall in Fairleigh. I hope that you
- 52:45Speaker 1: are seeing events on your Facebook feed, your social media,
- 52:54Speaker 1: and I hope that you're making plans to do something
- 53:01Speaker 1: that's positive, that's fun, that's enjoyable. Whether you're going about
- 53:04Speaker 1: it alone or whether you're getting the kids trick-or-treating, getting
- 53:09Speaker 1: them out. Maybe you're going to Carving for K. Maybe
- 53:13Speaker 1: you're going to Jim'sville. Maybe you're heading up to Chris
- 53:17Speaker 1: Massey's garage to see what he's done in there. He
- 53:24Speaker 1: always dresses it up, goes to the nines for Halloween.
- 53:29Speaker 1: It's his favorite holiday. just like Jim's Phil, Chris Massey
- 53:33Speaker 1: up on a upper prospect. No, you will not be
- 53:37Speaker 1: able to impossible to miss it. Impossible. Massey's crazy. Maybe
- 53:44Speaker 1: he'll join me tomorrow morning on the air. Um, get
- 53:50Speaker 1: yourself out, get to carving for K. Um, It's just
- 53:59Speaker 1: a lot of great things that are happening in our community.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Participate in a trunk or treat. Get the kids out.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Get them all decorated up in their Halloween costumes and
- 54:13Speaker 1: have fun. Enjoy life. Right? And our time and what
- 54:20Speaker 1: we have left of it, which is so important. We'll
- 54:26Speaker 1: see you tomorrow morning. We're going to We're going to
- 54:29Speaker 1: get crazy. We're going to laugh. We're going to get stupid.
- 54:35Speaker 1: We're going to get inappropriate. We're going to have fun,
- 54:40Speaker 1: a lot of fun tomorrow morning as G comes in

- 55:25Speaker 1: We'll see you tomorrow morning. Right here, where you are now.
- 55:28Speaker 1: The Art Out Podcast. Thank you.
