- 0:00Speaker 1: And we are back right here on Sporting State. And
- 0:03Speaker 1: as we do every single Friday, we turn our attention
- 0:05Speaker 1: to the desert. Our man Todd Furman, Bet the Board podcast,
- 0:09Speaker 1: at Todd Furman on Twitter. You just got me today, Furman.
- 0:14Speaker 2: It's a lot of pressure, LT. It's like when mom
- 0:15Speaker 2: and dad go on vacation, you get to throw a
- 0:18Speaker 2: house party. Let's hope you don't burn the thing to
- 0:20Speaker 2: the ground.
- 0:21Speaker 3: How were your house parties back in the day?
- 0:24Speaker 2: I never actually threw one in my own house. I
- 0:27Speaker 2: did throw a party at my uncle's house when he
- 0:29Speaker 2: went out of town. Thought we had covered our tracks perfectly.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Little did I know that a buddy had thrown up
- 0:35Speaker 2: in a strainer that he left.
- 0:36Speaker 4: In the basement.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It was in the sink. So we did not exactly
- 0:40Speaker 2: get a free pass for that level of behavior.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I totally get it. Nobody's giving Green Bay a pass
- 0:47Speaker 1: right now. This team has lost seven of eight. They're
- 0:48Speaker 1: fortunate it hadn't been eight consecutive games. Bad clock management
- 0:52Speaker 1: last week from Aaron Glenn and the Jets. Look, this
- 0:56Speaker 1: shows you, Furman, what a NFL quarterback can do. And
- 0:59Speaker 1: Michael Penix, it was more about Bijan. But I think
- 1:01Speaker 1: it's more about Green Bay. I actually had the Falcons
- 1:04Speaker 1: plus the points last night. I don't know where you
- 1:06Speaker 1: were on this one. But Green Bay's a mess.
- 1:10Speaker 2: You know, I was bummed that I didn't have the
- 1:12Speaker 2: foresight to try and grab the six and a half
- 1:14Speaker 2: with Atlanta on the open, thinking there was a better
- 1:17Speaker 2: than a non-zero chance that we were going to see
- 1:19Speaker 2: Michael Penix or even two out there under center, which
- 1:21Speaker 2: automatically would have given them an upgrade over Cooper Rush
- 1:24Speaker 2: and what he put on tape the first two games.
- 1:26Speaker 2: But I think when you look at it, to your point, LT,
- 1:29Speaker 2: it says a lot more about where Green Bay is
- 1:31Speaker 2: right now. And if you don't have an offensive line
- 1:33Speaker 2: in the National Football League, it doesn't matter what you
- 1:35Speaker 2: have at the quarterback position. It doesn't matter what you
- 1:37Speaker 2: have at the skill positions. It is damn near impossible
- 1:40Speaker 2: to win games. But the other big takeaway that we
- 1:43Speaker 2: saw last night, and it's the second time in as
- 1:45Speaker 2: many weeks, it's a situation that doesn't present itself that
- 1:49Speaker 2: often that better should file away, Teams that play overtime
- 1:53Speaker 2: on a Sunday, that play on a short week on
- 1:55Speaker 2: a Thursday over the last 33 times it's happened, now
- 1:59Speaker 2: 6-27 against the number. So it just goes to show
- 2:02Speaker 2: that the short week, even when you're playing at home,
- 2:05Speaker 2: can be tough to gear back up. The Falcons made
- 2:08Speaker 2: a statement and threw their hat in the ring that
- 2:09Speaker 2: says with Michael Penix, maybe they're not just going to
- 2:11Speaker 2: be a pushover like a lot of people expected.
- 2:14Speaker 4: In that pillow fight that is the NFC South this season.
- 2:16Speaker 1: He is part of Sporting State, Bet the Board podcast,
- 2:20Speaker 1: at Todd Furman on Twitter. We'll do a couple NFL,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and then I'm going to get to college because it's
- 2:24Speaker 1: obviously a huge card.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Six top 25 matchups there.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I wouldn't recommend this because you would have to maybe
- 2:30Speaker 1: watch it if you play it, but the Titans and
- 2:32Speaker 1: the Giants.
- 2:33Speaker 3: You talk about quarterbacks.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Jameis Winston, and thank God, I still back the Rams
- 2:38Speaker 1: on Monday going into that game. I still think with
- 2:40Speaker 1: their offense, they were going to win that game. At
- 2:42Speaker 1: least they were going to cover the six and a half.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But when Jameis came in, he looked unprepared.
- 2:46Speaker 3: He looked lost.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Now they're a favorite against the Titans coming off what
- 2:51Speaker 1: was a really, really close performance against the Eagles.
- 2:55Speaker 3: How do you play this with Jameis Winston?
- 2:58Speaker 2: I mean, Jameis looked exactly like we'd expect a World
- 3:00Speaker 2: Cup correspondent to look.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Taking snaps as an NFL quarterback. Apparently didn't have his
- 3:05Speaker 4: head buried in the playbook. I do think they'll be
- 3:08Speaker 4: a little bit sharper this week.
- 3:09Speaker 2: But not only do you have the injury to Jackson Dart,
- 3:12Speaker 2: loss for the season for the New York Giants, Malik
- 3:14Speaker 2: Neighbors was a full participant. Let's see how healthy he is.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Andrew Thomas is banged up. Brian Burns as well. And
- 3:20Speaker 2: I'll give the Tennessee Titans credit because for as badly
- 3:23Speaker 2: as they played in their opener against the Jets, They
- 3:26Speaker 2: were at least a cohesive unit that did have an
- 3:28Speaker 2: opportunity to win the game against the Philadelphia Eagles Week 2.
- 3:31Speaker 2: It was Jalen Hurts snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
- 3:34Speaker 2: But before we even look at the X's and O's
- 3:36Speaker 2: in this game, Mother Nature is going to have her say.
- 3:38Speaker 2: A nasty weather front can impact a lot of things
- 3:40Speaker 2: up and down the East Coast. for college football on Saturday.
- 3:43Speaker 2: We've seen Major League Baseball make adjustments to their schedule,
- 3:46Speaker 2: most notably with the Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs.
- 3:50Speaker 2: But we could have some strong wins in play at
- 3:52Speaker 2: MetLife Stadium. It doesn't look like the strongest wet stuff
- 3:56Speaker 2: is going to be early on in the Giants game.
- 3:58Speaker 4: But it's a big reason this total at 41 is.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Down to 38.5 and even approaching 38 with our friends
- 4:03Speaker 2: at Hard Rock Bet. I lean the Titans plus the
- 4:06Speaker 2: 2.5 would have no problems if people wanted to back
- 4:08Speaker 2: them on the money line. I think this is a
- 4:10Speaker 2: Giants team that's going to be licking its wounds for
- 4:12Speaker 2: the next couple weeks.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Okay, you go Titans.
- 4:14Speaker 1: We're going to stick in the AFC South here because
- 4:16Speaker 1: this is a game we talked about in the first hour.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Both 0-2.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Like, I had a huge expectation for the Texans. I
- 4:23Speaker 1: understand week one. It's Josh Allen. Week two, their offense
- 4:27Speaker 1: was putrid. Where are you on the Texans laying one
- 4:31Speaker 1: and a half going to Indianapolis this weekend?
- 4:33Speaker 4: It feels like we see this every year from the
- 4:35Speaker 4: Houston Texans.
- 4:36Speaker 2: They start slow, they figure out their identity, and the
- 4:39Speaker 2: market doesn't catch up to them nearly as quickly as
- 4:41Speaker 2: it needs to. The problem in this spot, you mentioned
- 4:44Speaker 2: the offense being a little bit of a doormat, and
- 4:46Speaker 2: that was rightfully the case without Nico Collins. who I
- 4:49Speaker 2: don't think is going to play again this weekend dealing
- 4:51Speaker 2: with that soft tissue injury. So it puts the onus
- 4:54Speaker 2: on the Houston Texans defense, and I think that's the
- 4:56Speaker 2: side of the ball where the Texans can take advantage
- 4:58Speaker 2: against a Colts team that outside of Jonathan Taylor and
- 5:01Speaker 2: Josh Downs, who is average separation scorers amongst some of
- 5:04Speaker 2: the best in the league right now, that the Colts
- 5:06Speaker 2: just don't have anybody to beat you over the top.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I mean, the injury to Alex Pierce is massive.
- 5:11Speaker 2: You look at the average depth of target to Tyler
- 5:13Speaker 2: Warren since Daniel Jones returned for week one. It's been
- 5:16Speaker 2: a little bit problematic, and I feel like the Texans
- 5:19Speaker 2: are able to do enough, creating a short field, generating
- 5:22Speaker 2: a little bit of something in the ground game with
- 5:24Speaker 2: David Montgomery, that I'd be looking at the Houston Texans
- 5:27Speaker 2: at a cheap money line price tag right in that
- 5:29Speaker 2: minus $ 1.
- 5:30Speaker 4: 20 range.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I had reservations about the Colts coming into the year,
- 5:34Speaker 2: primarily because what I didn't think they had defensively. Some
- 5:37Speaker 2: of those things have reared their ugly head, albeit against
- 5:40Speaker 2: the Ravens and Chiefs, so you temper some of the expectations.
- 5:42Speaker 2: But I get the feeling the Texans go on the road,
- 5:44Speaker 2: get a big divisional win, and it puts Indianapolis even
- 5:47Speaker 2: further behind the eight ball.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Okay, two more, Furman, and then we're going to shift
- 5:51Speaker 1: to college football. Todd Furman, Bet the Board podcast, part
- 5:54Speaker 1: of Sporting State, at Todd Furman on Twitter. The Ravens,
- 5:58Speaker 1: that offense looked incredible week one. Unfortunately, I had the
- 6:01Speaker 1: Colts in that game. And then last week, with the
- 6:03Speaker 1: lack of wide receivers, the Saints got to them on
- 6:06Speaker 1: the road. Now they're playing a Cowboys team that is
- 6:09Speaker 1: difficult to figure out as well, both.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Sitting at 1-1. Ravens in Brazil, 3.5-point favorites.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Leave it to the Ravens finding ways, even with a
- 6:19Speaker 2: new coaching staff, to blow a fourth quarter lead like
- 6:21Speaker 2: they did last week against the Saints. But don't be
- 6:23Speaker 2: fooled by some of the scoreboard cosmetics there. I know
- 6:25Speaker 2: it's not salving the wound for Ravens fans, but Baltimore
- 6:29Speaker 2: was the far superior team in that football game. I
- 6:31Speaker 2: just can't figure out why in the second half against
- 6:34Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh Steelers week 18 last year and the second
- 6:37Speaker 2: half last weekend against the Saints, they completely abandoned the
- 6:40Speaker 2: ground game with Derrick Henry. And this week against that
- 6:42Speaker 2: Cowboys soft run defense, it's got to be Derrick Henry right,
- 6:45Speaker 2: Derrick Henry left, You know, mix in a little bit
- 6:48Speaker 2: of Lamar Jackson, given the crooked rushing numbers we've seen
- 6:51Speaker 2: from Jackson Dart and Gene Daniels. And I think the
- 6:53Speaker 2: Ravens are going to have some offensive success. On the
- 6:56Speaker 2: other side for the Cowboys, they're a little bit more
- 6:58Speaker 2: one-dimensional through the first couple weeks than I'd like to see.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Javante Williams, back-to-back games, averaging less than three and a
- 7:04Speaker 2: half yards per carry. And maybe that's because the Cowboys
- 7:06Speaker 2: offensive line largely unsettled with the injury that they had
- 7:09Speaker 2: early on in the season. If they're one-dimensional, I think
- 7:12Speaker 2: that plays into the hands of the Ravens. But one thing, LT,
- 7:15Speaker 2: that I'm going to be monitoring today when we start
- 7:17Speaker 2: to see a little bit more of the visuals that
- 7:19Speaker 2: come out of the American Odd down there in Rio
- 7:21Speaker 2: de Janeiro is the field conditions. I know the total
- 7:24Speaker 2: has leaked up from 52 to 53, which is massive
- 7:27Speaker 2: for an international game. But you had Brazilian soccer players
- 7:30Speaker 2: in their domestic league there complaining about field conditions going
- 7:33Speaker 2: back as far as two months. They said it's been
- 7:35Speaker 2: unseasonably wet. And if this track gets sloppy, that it
- 7:39Speaker 2: slows down the players. It's tough to look for some
- 7:41Speaker 2: of those explosives. It's one thing if we see a
- 7:43Speaker 2: Green Bay Packers-Eagles situation where it's just a little slick
- 7:46Speaker 2: and the defenders can't get their footing. It's another if
- 7:49Speaker 2: it turns into a glorified mud pit. So tough to
- 7:51Speaker 2: handicap these international games, but you will want to get
- 7:53Speaker 2: all of your best fantasy assets out there in earnest
- 7:57Speaker 2: for this potential shootout between the Ravens and Cowboys.
- 7:59Speaker 1: From questionable field conditions to an altitude game, Sunday night
- 8:04Speaker 1: Rams taking on the Broncos. Broncos get a win over
- 8:06Speaker 1: a really good Jacksonville team. Rams bounce back, albeit against
- 8:10Speaker 1: a backup quarterback after the first series there. I thought
- 8:13Speaker 1: there were some things that you can take as a positive.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Kyra Williams and Blake Corham running the football.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford looked more like himself, but there were penalties,
- 8:24Speaker 1: six penalties, two turnovers, a missed 43-yard field goal. Special
- 8:28Speaker 1: teams may be still a problem. Where are you on
- 8:30Speaker 1: the Rams as a short favorite in Denver?
- 8:33Speaker 2: The big thing for me, a primary takeaway from that
- 8:36Speaker 2: Rams game, of course, them playing without Puka, and Puka
- 8:38Speaker 2: won't be out there on Sunday if he is, it
- 8:40Speaker 2: would come as a massive surprise to me. I think
- 8:42Speaker 2: the Rams are going to err on the side of
- 8:43Speaker 2: caution there, was how well the offensive line played. You
- 8:46Speaker 2: mentioned that tandem of running backs, and it really feels
- 8:48Speaker 2: like Sean McVay is comfortable and confident. with both players
- 8:52Speaker 2: providing unique skill sets. Blake Corham, a little bit more
- 8:54Speaker 2: explosive as a runner. Kyron Williams, a little bit more
- 8:57Speaker 2: well-rounded in terms of what he provides in pass protection
- 9:00Speaker 2: and as a receiver coming out of the backfield.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Why is that important in this matchup?
- 9:04Speaker 2: Because I think when you're the Rams and you're a
- 9:06Speaker 2: little bit limited with your pass catchers, you're going to
- 9:08Speaker 2: have to create that level of balance. And this is
- 9:10Speaker 2: a Denver defense without John Franklin Myers this year, without
- 9:14Speaker 2: Jonathan Cooper, that's a little bit light in the trenches.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Jacksonville didn't commit to the ground game nearly as much
- 9:19Speaker 2: as I would have liked to seen with Bashal Tutin.
- 9:21Speaker 2: But I think the Rams know they have to run
- 9:23Speaker 2: the football, shorten the game a little bit. I like
- 9:25Speaker 2: the matchup defensively for them as well against a Broncos
- 9:28Speaker 2: team that's dealing with a wealth of injuries in their
- 9:31Speaker 2: own backfield, although RJ Harvey and J.K. Dobbins did return
- 9:35Speaker 2: to practice yesterday. I'm just not sure where the points
- 9:37Speaker 2: come from in this particular matchup. It feels like the
- 9:40Speaker 2: first team to 21 gets out of Invesco Field with
- 9:43Speaker 2: a win. I like the game under the total, but
- 9:45Speaker 2: do shop around. 44.5 would kind of be my cutoff,
- 9:48Speaker 2: knowing how important 44 is as an NFL total.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Okay, Furman, before we transition to the college game, survivor
- 9:54Speaker 1: talk real quick. Albeit two small pools, I've already won two.
- 10:00Speaker 1: through two weeks in the NFL everybody's getting wiped out
- 10:03Speaker 1: I saw circa they were down from 25,000 plus entries
- 10:07Speaker 1: to 8,500 after two weeks how insane is this and
- 10:11Speaker 1: what is the big survivor play this week I would
- 10:13Speaker 1: assume it's you know fade the dolphins right.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I mean, it is absolute carnage. I have three of
- 10:20Speaker 2: those entries that were knocked out of Circus Survivor. So
- 10:22Speaker 2: rest in peace. I will not be able to repeat
- 10:25Speaker 2: as a Circus Survivor champion like I was able to
- 10:27Speaker 2: pull off back in 2020.
- 10:29Speaker 4: So a little bit of work left to be done.
- 10:31Speaker 2: We're going to have to go into the lab and
- 10:32Speaker 2: tweak the strategy going into 2027. But if your pool
- 10:36Speaker 2: really doesn't have much in the way of limitations in
- 10:38Speaker 2: terms of saving some of the elite teams, I do
- 10:41Speaker 2: think you have to consider the Chiefs. The longer we
- 10:43Speaker 2: go into the circus survivor or any survivor pool at that,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you're going to have a better grasp of who these
- 10:49Speaker 2: teams really are. And look, far be it for me
- 10:53Speaker 2: to tell someone the best strategy you may be able
- 10:55Speaker 2: to employ this year is fading Brownies Dolphins week in,
- 10:59Speaker 2: week out.
- 10:59Speaker 4: So yes, you like to save.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Some of your power brokers there, but it does feel
- 11:03Speaker 2: like using the Chiefs this week seems to be a
- 11:05Speaker 2: proverbial free space against the Miami Dolphins.
- 11:08Speaker 1: He is Todd Furman every single Friday right here on
- 11:10Speaker 1: Sporting State. The next round, he's part of Bet the
- 11:13Speaker 1: Board podcast. You can check him out at Twitter, at
- 11:16Speaker 1: Todd Furman. One game tonight before we get into that
- 11:19Speaker 1: incredible slate tomorrow. Clemson heading out west to take on
- 11:24Speaker 1: the Cal Bears. Clemson one and a half. I brought
- 11:26Speaker 1: this up early in the week. You tell me, of
- 11:29Speaker 1: the 16 SEC teams, I know Arkansas would be a
- 11:32Speaker 1: dog at Cal. But how many other teams would be
- 11:36Speaker 1: around what the Clemson number is? My point is, is
- 11:39Speaker 1: it possible that 15 teams have a better power ranking
- 11:43Speaker 1: right now than the Clemson Tigers?
- 11:46Speaker 4: I mean, that's the way it looks.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Clemson, you know, with an impressive comeback victory. I think
- 11:50Speaker 2: everybody around the Clemson program was ready to eulogize Dabo
- 11:54Speaker 2: when they were down two touchdowns against North Carolina. Mother
- 11:57Speaker 2: Nature decided she wanted to give Dabo a new lease
- 12:00Speaker 2: on life. And Clemson was able to get through the
- 12:03Speaker 2: front door covering all numbers as a, you know, three,
- 12:06Speaker 2: three and a half point favorite in that game.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Game slips over the total as well. You're right. I mean,
- 12:11Speaker 4: Arkansas would be a dog in this spot.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Vanderbilt's power rating is something that's very much in flux
- 12:15Speaker 2: for me as well with them making the change to
- 12:17Speaker 2: Jared Curtis, who I think gives them a higher ceiling,
- 12:19Speaker 2: but probably not as low of a floor given how
- 12:22Speaker 2: explosive and dynamic he can be as a thrower and
- 12:25Speaker 2: a runner. But there would be 13 to 14 teams
- 12:27Speaker 2: that would find themselves on the road favored against the
- 12:30Speaker 2: Cal Bears.
- 12:31Speaker 4: This game, though, a little bit unique.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Because sometimes a line doesn't truly pass a sniff test,
- 12:35Speaker 2: even for me power number-wise. Like, my number on this
- 12:38Speaker 2: game is Pickham, and I've talked to a number of
- 12:40Speaker 2: professional bettors this week, like I always do, go through,
- 12:43Speaker 2: and everybody seemed to be wanting to make a case
- 12:45Speaker 2: for Cal. Here we are, though, on game day with
- 12:47Speaker 2: the number continuing to leak out. I want to see
- 12:50Speaker 2: another data point with Tate Reynolds and exactly how this
- 12:52Speaker 2: Clemson offense is going to look. Short week, cross-country travel,
- 12:56Speaker 2: but it's also a Cal team that was blown out
- 12:58Speaker 2: in the fourth quarter at home by UCLA. was extremely
- 13:01Speaker 2: fortunate to win on the scoreboard at Syracuse in a
- 13:03Speaker 2: game that they lost in the box score. And I'm
- 13:06Speaker 2: not convinced blowing out the Wagner Seahawks last week has
- 13:11Speaker 2: fixed everything. So I'm curious to see how these teams
- 13:14Speaker 2: look and what we're going to get in a 60-minute
- 13:16Speaker 2: sample size of a prove-it type scenario for two teams
- 13:18Speaker 2: in the ACC.
- 13:19Speaker 1: The massive SEC schedule starts tomorrow morning in Neyland. 11
- 13:24Speaker 1: o'clock Central Time, Texas, Tennessee. Both favorite and total have dropped.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Texas opened at 7, total of 56.5. It's all the
- 13:33Speaker 1: way down to 4.5, 54.5.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I know there's a lot of sharp money on this under.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Where are you in this?
- 13:40Speaker 2: Number got as low as three and a half in
- 13:41Speaker 2: this game before you start to see some of that
- 13:43Speaker 2: Texas money show up. And this is a Longhorns team,
- 13:46Speaker 2: despite the undefeated record, the impressive comeback in the fourth
- 13:49Speaker 2: quarter against Ohio State that I have a ton of
- 13:52Speaker 2: questions about.
- 13:53Speaker 4: And I think some of them are going to get answered.
- 13:55Speaker 2: In hostile territory against Tennessee in that early kickoff slot tomorrow.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Arch Manning hasn't really looked the part in terms of
- 14:02Speaker 2: commanding the offense. I mean, nine drops for the Texas
- 14:05Speaker 2: receiver room. The only player that doesn't have a drop
- 14:07Speaker 2: right now is Cam Coleman. And when you look at
- 14:10Speaker 2: some of the injuries that Texas is dealing with, you know,
- 14:12Speaker 2: one of their leading linebackers in a walking boot. We'll
- 14:14Speaker 2: see if he's available to go and how effective he
- 14:17Speaker 2: can be. Hollywood Smothers a little bit banged up as well.
- 14:20Speaker 2: So Relique Brown may need to take over there. On
- 14:22Speaker 2: the other side for Tennessee, defensively, I'm not sure where
- 14:25Speaker 2: the Vols are just yet. I can say, having watched
- 14:28Speaker 2: this team through a couple games this year, they've tweaked
- 14:30Speaker 2: their offense a bit, and so much of what Tennessee
- 14:32Speaker 2: wants to do is contingent on them being successful running
- 14:35Speaker 2: the football. Deshaun Bishop comes into this game dealing with
- 14:37Speaker 2: a hip injury. I was stunned that Josh Heupel put
- 14:40Speaker 2: him back in the game against Kennesaw after he got
- 14:42Speaker 2: dinged up. How much do they trust a true freshman
- 14:45Speaker 2: quarterback in Faison Brandon to go out there and throw.
- 14:47Speaker 4: The ball around?
- 14:48Speaker 2: Put me in the camp of liking the under here.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I haven't gotten there just yet because I missed the 56.
- 14:53Speaker 2: There is some 55 that I may nibble on after
- 14:56Speaker 2: the show, but I think defenses are going to take
- 14:59Speaker 2: front and center stage in this spot. Both offenses have
- 15:02Speaker 2: a lot of questions they have to answer. I'd love
- 15:04Speaker 2: to see Tennessee pull off the outright upset. I'm just
- 15:07Speaker 2: not sure the Vols have the horses, but should be
- 15:09Speaker 2: a fun, fun game at Neyland with that early kickoff tomorrow.
- 15:12Speaker 1: You know, it's always a red flag when people are like,
- 15:14Speaker 1: why is that number what it is? And this is
- 15:16Speaker 1: what we're getting in the swamp tomorrow with Ole Miss
- 15:18Speaker 1: and Florida. I've been waiting for this all week because
- 15:22Speaker 1: I wanted to see where you would have this number.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I told people early in the week Florida should be favored.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I would think around 1.5, 3.5 seems a little inflated.
- 15:30Speaker 3: I do like Florida in this spot, though.
- 15:34Speaker 2: So when I make my adjustment for home field here,
- 15:37Speaker 2: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, I get to Florida minus 3.2.
- 15:40Speaker 4: So I'm kind of in line with the market.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I'm kicking myself a little bit LT for not laying
- 15:45Speaker 2: a cheap money line price when this game opened or
- 15:48Speaker 2: even a minus two. We look at the situational spots
- 15:51Speaker 2: all year and you have to imagine it's going to
- 15:54Speaker 2: be damn near impossible for Ole Miss to run back
- 15:57Speaker 2: this week on the road. with the same level of
- 15:59Speaker 2: emotion that we saw last week, and them beating their
- 16:02Speaker 2: old head coach, winning that game outright as a three-point underdog.
- 16:05Speaker 2: The other storylines to follow here, there are a couple,
- 16:08Speaker 2: and I've only heard this mentioned once or twice, which
- 16:10Speaker 2: I think is fascinating. Not so much the injury to
- 16:12Speaker 2: Kiwan Lacy going to be a game-time decision, but the
- 16:14Speaker 2: fact that John Summerall has prepped not once, but twice
- 16:18Speaker 2: for Ole Miss over the last calendar year. So while
- 16:22Speaker 2: Trinidad Chambliss wasn't the starting quarterback the first time around,
- 16:25Speaker 2: there is a little bit of that familiarity knowing that
- 16:28Speaker 2: Summerall has gone through game prep in the playoff and
- 16:31Speaker 2: has a roster that is much better from a talent
- 16:33Speaker 2: perspective than what he did at Tulane where Ole Miss
- 16:36Speaker 2: blew them out.
- 16:38Speaker 4: Look, this is a Florida team.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I'll admit, I bet them under seven and a half
- 16:41Speaker 2: reg season wins underestimated the strength of this coaching staff
- 16:46Speaker 2: in terms of what coach Summerall can do.
- 16:47Speaker 4: And maybe more importantly, what.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Buster Faulkner was going to get out of Aaron Filo.
- 16:51Speaker 2: That's dead sunk money. I can't let that impact any
- 16:53Speaker 2: of my decisions going forward. But from a skill position standpoint,
- 16:57Speaker 2: I mean, can we make the case that Florida is
- 16:59Speaker 2: not just top three, top five in the SEC, but
- 17:02Speaker 2: top five in.
- 17:03Speaker 4: The entire country? I mean, I look at them at
- 17:05Speaker 4: the running back position and wide receiver.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I'd rather have what Florida has on their roster than
- 17:10Speaker 2: Georgia or then Oklahoma, maybe then Texas.
- 17:13Speaker 4: The list goes on and on.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I think this Florida team's for real, and if they
- 17:16Speaker 2: come away with a convincing win against Ole Miss tomorrow,
- 17:18Speaker 2: we should be talking about this team as a legitimate
- 17:21Speaker 2: playoff contender starting the year 4-0.
- 17:23Speaker 1: So if you want an example of how volatile public
- 17:26Speaker 1: money is, just look at Oklahoma. Two weeks ago, there
- 17:29Speaker 1: was no way they could lose to Michigan. They go
- 17:31Speaker 1: into the big house. They get shut down. Now they
- 17:34Speaker 1: go into Athens. Georgia hasn't played anybody, but they have
- 17:38Speaker 1: whipped the holy hell out of everyone. Now it's 13
- 17:41Speaker 1: and a half, the Bulldogs, nobody's giving Oklahoma any shot.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Am I crazy to think Oklahoma's defense will keep them
- 17:48Speaker 1: in this game?
- 17:49Speaker 2: They're going to have to because there is zero confidence
- 17:52Speaker 2: in and around the OU program in terms of what
- 17:55Speaker 2: John Mateer can do, keeping a defense honest. And I
- 17:58Speaker 2: think for Oklahoma on some level, I said it jokingly
- 18:01Speaker 2: on air in Oklahoma City yesterday, did they make the
- 18:04Speaker 2: wrong decision? Spending the money to bring in John Mateer
- 18:06Speaker 2: when we might watch Michael Hawkins go out there and
- 18:08Speaker 2: lead Rich Rod's offense for West Virginia as a dynamic
- 18:12Speaker 2: runner and a passer, a guy who at least has
- 18:14Speaker 2: a little bit of confidence there. This OU defense from
- 18:17Speaker 2: their starting 11 has some difference makers. The problem being
- 18:20Speaker 2: is OU doesn't have the same depth that they had
- 18:23Speaker 2: defensively last year. The big injury to monitor is a
- 18:25Speaker 2: first-round draft pick in David Stone. Not sure if he's
- 18:28Speaker 2: going to be available for the Sooners, but you mentioned it.
- 18:31Speaker 2: You know, if people want to give Georgia their flowers
- 18:33Speaker 2: right now, I mean, what are we getting excited about?
- 18:36Speaker 2: You blast an FCS opponent in the opener. Western Kentucky
- 18:39Speaker 2: has gone through the gauntlet and has looked absolutely lost
- 18:42Speaker 2: throwing the football, trying to play defense. And then last
- 18:46Speaker 2: week against Arkansas, to call them an SEC team seems
- 18:49Speaker 2: to be a leap of faith. So I really believe
- 18:51Speaker 2: Georgia could find this a jolt to their senses early
- 18:53Speaker 2: on in the game. Oklahoma is going to have to
- 18:55Speaker 2: be a little bit conservative if they can't run the
- 18:57Speaker 2: football and they don't trust Mateer.
- 18:58Speaker 4: I like the first half total under at 23.
- 19:01Speaker 2: But would have no problems if people wanted to make
- 19:03Speaker 2: a slight case buying the dip in OU plus 14.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I'm just not sure I want to get there, but
- 19:08Speaker 2: we've seen this story a hundred times in this business,
- 19:11Speaker 2: you and I, when everybody writes a team off for dead,
- 19:13Speaker 2: they put together that Herculean effort against the team that's
- 19:16Speaker 2: been fattening up on Twinkies and cream puffs through the
- 19:19Speaker 2: non-conference portion of their schedule.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Okay, Furman, two more quickly and we'll get you out
- 19:23Speaker 1: of here. One more in the SEC in Starkville.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Who would have thought?
- 19:26Speaker 1: Top 25 matchup, Missouri, Mississippi State. Missouri 17-0 in the
- 19:31Speaker 1: months of August and September in games since 2023. That's
- 19:35Speaker 1: straight up. Mississippi State second nationally in total offense. Where
- 19:40Speaker 1: are you right now on the Bulldogs laying six in
- 19:42Speaker 1: this spot?
- 19:44Speaker 2: If the Kamario Taylor story is circulating already about what
- 19:48Speaker 2: teams are going to throw at him in the transfer pool,
- 19:50Speaker 2: doesn't illustrate that college football is broken.
- 19:52Speaker 4: We haven't even got through the month of September.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I mean, he's a local kid putting up crooked numbers
- 19:56Speaker 2: that we haven't seen in Starkville since Dak Prescott was there.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Let him go out there. Let him play.
- 20:01Speaker 2: And hopefully when rubber meets the road at the end
- 20:03Speaker 2: of the year, Camario decides that he can leave a
- 20:05Speaker 2: legacy at Minnesota State. And he's already leaving a legacy
- 20:08Speaker 2: through the first four games of the season. I mean,
- 20:10Speaker 2: you look at his odds to win the Heisman Trophy.
- 20:12Speaker 2: 125-1 to start the year. He's now in that same
- 20:15Speaker 2: breath as the Arch Mannings and CJ Kars of the world.
- 20:19Speaker 2: But the betting market is the ultimate model of efficiency.
- 20:22Speaker 2: And last week, I'll admit, I at South Carolina laid
- 20:25Speaker 2: the three, thought I was a genius. With them up
- 20:27Speaker 2: 16-0 early in the game and realized they left a
- 20:29Speaker 2: ton of points out there. Even at 23-14, thought I
- 20:32Speaker 2: was fine. But Miss State found another gear, and Jeff
- 20:35Speaker 2: Levy deserves a world of credit as well. But now
- 20:37Speaker 2: you're in a little bit of uncharted territory. Mississippi State's
- 20:40Speaker 2: laying nearly a touchdown against an SEC team that I
- 20:43Speaker 2: don't think a whole hell of a lot of, but
- 20:45Speaker 2: one that is going to be able to punch up
- 20:46Speaker 2: in class. Austin Simmons kind of went through the motions
- 20:49Speaker 2: 10 of 19 last week against Troy. It looked like
- 20:51Speaker 2: they were extremely vanilla in their play calling. For me
- 20:54Speaker 2: to get involved here, I need this number to get
- 20:56Speaker 2: to seven. I'm not sure I want to step in
- 20:59Speaker 2: front of Super Camario right now, LT, but numbers rule
- 21:02Speaker 2: the world in this side of the business. And if
- 21:04Speaker 2: it did get to a full touchdown, I'd be forced
- 21:06Speaker 2: to value bet Missouri here, thinking that Mississippi State could
- 21:09Speaker 2: wilt a little bit under the weight of those huge expectations.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Final game in the Big Ten. Oregon heading to the
- 21:16Speaker 1: Coliseum to take on USC. Oregon in a desperation spot.
- 21:19Speaker 1: USC on the other side desperate for a signature Lincoln-Riley
- 21:24Speaker 1: win here. USC hadn't played anybody, but they're 1-3 against
- 21:27Speaker 1: the number. Lincoln Riley, 6-13 against ranked opponents while at USC. USC,
- 21:32Speaker 1: this number's kind of fluctuated back and forth. It's been
- 21:35Speaker 1: sitting the last few days. Oregon, a three-point short favorite
- 21:38Speaker 1: on the road.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah, underwhelming to say the least for USC to start
- 21:42Speaker 2: the season from an ATS perspective. You take out that
- 21:45Speaker 2: whitewashing of Fresno State, and the resume really doesn't have
- 21:48Speaker 2: much in the way of meat on the bone through
- 21:50Speaker 2: the non-conference. And last week, USC did what USC seems
- 21:53Speaker 2: to do every year under Lincoln Riley. They leave their
- 21:55Speaker 2: own time zone, travel east, and look like they forget
- 21:58Speaker 2: how to play football. I mean, allowing Rutgers to hang
- 22:00Speaker 2: around for four quarters is more than a three-touchdown favorite.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Trent Mosley, very doubtful. He's been USC's biggest difference maker
- 22:07Speaker 2: on the outside. Corey Sims as well, a little bit
- 22:10Speaker 2: banged up. This is an Oregon team, though, that I
- 22:13Speaker 2: want to see him put together four full quarters. I
- 22:15Speaker 2: don't think everything is suddenly fixed because you beat Portland
- 22:18Speaker 2: State 84-0.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Last week.
- 22:21Speaker 2: But this was an Oregon team that came in with
- 22:23Speaker 2: lofty expectations coming into the year. The defensive line was
- 22:25Speaker 2: supposed to be the strength. This feels like a playoff
- 22:28Speaker 2: elimination game, knowing that the Ducks have their hands full
- 22:30Speaker 2: with a trip to Columbus later in the year.
- 22:33Speaker 4: So a fun game here.
- 22:34Speaker 2: But when you look at the life cycle of how
- 22:36Speaker 2: this number has moved, we talk about how public perception
- 22:38Speaker 2: plays such a role.
- 22:40Speaker 4: During the summer, Oregon was a 5.5, 6-point favorite at USC.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Going into last weekend, USC had swung all the way
- 22:46Speaker 2: to a modest two-point favorite. SC looks pedestrian. Number swings
- 22:51Speaker 2: back to Oregon, minus three. Wish I had a strong
- 22:53Speaker 2: feeling on this game. I do think the total under
- 22:57Speaker 2: makes a little bit of sense if the number starts
- 22:59Speaker 2: to climb. I know it's a little bit scary. Probably
- 23:01Speaker 2: won't be involved here, but no doubt a measuring stick
- 23:03Speaker 2: for this contest.
- 23:04Speaker 4: But one game LT, I'll throw you in the Big Ten.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I feel like everybody I've talked to wants to make
- 23:09Speaker 2: a case for Iowa plus the points.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Or on the money line.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Is this a dog with fleas, and should we be
- 23:13Speaker 2: looking to lay the 5.5-6 with Michigan, hoping that we
- 23:16Speaker 2: get a good version of Bryce Underwood on Saturday?
- 23:19Speaker 3: I have Michigan minus the points. It is already on
- 23:21Speaker 3: my card.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a disgusting watch because
- 23:24Speaker 1: of the defenses. Iowa's defense is legitimate. Their quarterback play,
- 23:28Speaker 1: say what you want about Underwood. He is 10 times
- 23:32Speaker 1: better than either option right now Kirk Ferentz has got.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you guys have seen enough in and
- 23:38Speaker 2: around the Auburn program to know what Hank Brown is
- 23:40Speaker 2: or isn't. I mean, the average depth of target is
- 23:42Speaker 2: basically checkdowns, and if Kamari Moulton isn't even close to 100%,
- 23:46Speaker 2: I'm not sure where Iowa goes for the big plays.
- 23:48Speaker 4: And hey, last thing before I let you go.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yeah, the off the radar, I see the gear.
- 23:54Speaker 1: We want to see that, but you're off the radar
- 23:56Speaker 1: play if you've got one of those as well.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Look at those good-looking hats.
- 23:59Speaker 4: There we go.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I mean, I want it approved to everybody else since
- 24:01Speaker 2: they didn't get visual confirmation that Brownie and Dunaway actually delivered.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I have to figure out with my official commit if
- 24:07Speaker 2: I'm the old school next round live or how I'm
- 24:10Speaker 2: going to try and go about it.
- 24:12Speaker 4: From an off-the-radar pick.
- 24:13Speaker 2: And I had a couple marked down for you guys,
- 24:15Speaker 2: let's do a little bit of dumpster diving. And I'm
- 24:17Speaker 2: going to take Middle Tennessee State plus the seven. This
- 24:20Speaker 2: is a middle team that I think came into the
- 24:23Speaker 2: year without lofty expectations, but they've gone out there and
- 24:26Speaker 2: they've performed well. I mean, upset Nevada last week as
- 24:29Speaker 2: a short home underdog. We're there from start to finish
- 24:33Speaker 2: against Nevada. A Marshall team that's underwhelmed a little bit.
- 24:36Speaker 2: But I like the upgrade in quarterback play. And I
- 24:39Speaker 2: really feel like middle isn't going to be the downtrodden
- 24:42Speaker 2: doormat that they've been in Conference USA over the last
- 24:44Speaker 2: couple years. So give me middle Tennessee State to start
- 24:46Speaker 2: conference play as a seven-point dog.
- 24:48Speaker 4: I think they hang around for four quarters.
- 24:50Speaker 3: There you go.
- 24:50Speaker 1: The off-the-radar play always from our man Furman. Great stuff, Furman.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Have a great weekend. Let's cash some tickets. I think
- 24:57Speaker 1: it's turning back in our direction. I feel it this weekend.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Hey, always a pleasure, my friend. Greatest time of year
- 25:03Speaker 4: and a big schedule.
- 25:04Speaker 2: We finally get to get a better indication of who
- 25:06Speaker 2: these teams are and who we find as undervalued and
- 25:09Speaker 2: overvalued commodities, both in the NFL and college.
- 25:11Speaker 1: There he is, Todd Furman, Bet the Board podcast, part
- 25:14Speaker 1: of our sport and state network. You can check out
- 25:17Speaker 1: more of his stuff, his picks, his insight at Todd
- 25:21Speaker 1: Furman right there on Twitter. The guys are down at
- 25:24Speaker 1: Moe's Barbecue down on the plains getting ready for Vanderbilt-Auburn.
- 25:27Speaker 1: We will rejoin them on the other side on... Also,
- 25:30Speaker 1: is Alabama on potential upset alert? We will get into
- 25:34Speaker 1: that game.
- 25:35Speaker 3: And many more.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Big college football weekend, week four, right here on Sporting State.
- 25:41Speaker 5: Back down in Auburn.
- 25:42Speaker 6: Alabama, as we get ready for Auburn's big home game
- 25:46Speaker 6: against Vanderbilt. We're going to talk in the next round
- 25:49Speaker 6: part of the show about the losing streak right now
- 25:53Speaker 6: of SEC games. in Jordan-Hare Stadium for Auburn. We were
- 25:56Speaker 6: talking about the magic of Jordan-Hare Stadium, but it's a
- 25:58Speaker 6: pretty remarkable number now. I just saw on social media,
- 26:02Speaker 6: and I think the number's correct, 671 days, something like that,
- 26:05Speaker 6: in their last SEC home win inside that beautiful home
- 26:09Speaker 6: field advantage building here on the Auburn campus. That's pretty
- 26:13Speaker 6: crazy that we come to this place and wonder if
- 26:16Speaker 6: the magic of Jordan-Hare Stadium has slipped away in the
- 26:19Speaker 6: modern-day SEC era. We'll talk about that coming up. in
- 26:23Speaker 6: the next round in a little bit. Speaking of home
- 26:25Speaker 6: field advantage, though, Northwestern thinks they're going to have one soon.
- 26:29Speaker 6: Look at the facility. The players finally got to walk
- 26:32Speaker 6: around the new building up there. The locker rooms are amazing.
- 26:36Speaker 6: At their new Ryan Field remodel, they've been playing on
- 26:39Speaker 6: that makeshift on-campus stadium for a while. Now this building
- 26:43Speaker 6: is on campus. And then you get inside the building.
- 26:46Speaker 6: It's just a beautiful, great scoreboards, great sight lines. And
- 26:51Speaker 6: it's just a new home for this Northwestern program. And
- 26:55Speaker 6: you start to wonder, Lance and Ryan, what could Northwestern be.
- 26:59Speaker 5: In an era where you pay for play?
- 27:02Speaker 6: In an NIL world, the locker rooms look first class
- 27:05Speaker 6: and the stadium looks like it could produce some home
- 27:09Speaker 6: field advantage.
- 27:10Speaker 5: What could Northwestern be someday? LT, we ask this question
- 27:13Speaker 5: all the time. If Indiana can do it, why can't
- 27:16Speaker 5: fill in the blank? I mean, Northwestern has produced some wealthy,
- 27:20Speaker 5: wealthy alums, I would imagine. I don't know how many
- 27:23Speaker 5: of them give a rip about football because for most
- 27:25Speaker 5: of those wealthy alums, football sucked while they were there.
- 27:29Speaker 5: If Indiana can do it, I mean, in theory, Northwestern could, right?
- 27:32Speaker 1: Well, I look at three other, you know, when you
- 27:34Speaker 1: look at the other academic schools, you look at Stanford.
- 27:37Speaker 1: We've seen them for a time where they were a
- 27:39Speaker 1: top five team. You look at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt, by the way,
- 27:43Speaker 1: is 14-3 straight up in their last 17 games. You
- 27:47Speaker 1: look at Duke. Duke won the ACC last year, and
- 27:51Speaker 1: they're 3-0. So if those programs can have success, I
- 27:55Speaker 1: saw Northwestern 30 years ago in a Rose Bowl. So
- 27:58Speaker 1: if there is money behind the program and you see
- 28:00Speaker 1: the facilities right there, yeah, I think they can have success.
- 28:04Speaker 5: And I know you just said Northwestern was in a
- 28:06Speaker 5: Rose Bowl, which the Youngs out there are like, wait
- 28:08Speaker 5: a minute, Lance must have hit his head. No, actually
- 28:10Speaker 5: they were. But this really, because that was kind of
- 28:14Speaker 5: a blip on the radar screen, they couldn't sustain this.
- 28:17Speaker 5: I mean, this is maybe the best run Northwestern's had
- 28:20Speaker 5: since then. And consistently, I know Pat Fitzgerald had them
- 28:23Speaker 5: pretty good and then it fell off. But what David
- 28:26Speaker 5: Braun has done is as much consistency as they've had
- 28:29Speaker 5: since that Rose Bowl run.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Yeah, look, 2020 was a weird year, but Fitzgerald did
- 28:34Speaker 1: have them in a Big Ten championship game. and they
- 28:36Speaker 1: had a halftime lead on a team that played in
- 28:38Speaker 1: the semis in Ohio State. With all that said, I
- 28:41Speaker 1: don't disagree. The consistency has been there. They need to
- 28:45Speaker 1: go out and pay for one of these quarterbacks. I mean,
- 28:47Speaker 1: Aiden Childs is okay, and they've always got these transfer
- 28:51Speaker 1: guys that come in that weren't necessarily good enough to
- 28:55Speaker 1: be front-line starters for these other programs.
- 28:58Speaker 3: But if they would get some money behind a quarterback,
- 29:00Speaker 3: that could change a lot.
- 29:02Speaker 6: Northwestern's last road game before they open up that place
- 29:06Speaker 6: at Indiana tonight, No.
- 29:08Speaker 5: 5 Indiana.
- 29:09Speaker 6: And truthfully, I think I'm right about this, Lance and Brownie.
- 29:12Speaker 6: Northwestern has a better football history than Indiana did before
- 29:17Speaker 6: Cignetti got there.
- 29:18Speaker 5: That's correct, right?
- 29:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that's 100% correct.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:22Speaker 5: It's a pretty low bar, though. Oh, it is.
- 29:24Speaker 6: Now we're talking about defending national champions. I promise you.
- 29:28Speaker 6: A student dressed like Abe Lincoln just walked by.
- 29:30Speaker 5: Oh, really?
- 29:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:31Speaker 6: It wasn't just a bad beard? He literally had on the...
- 29:34Speaker 6: He did not have a beard. I don't think he
- 29:35Speaker 6: was a bit. I think he was just going to
- 29:37Speaker 6: class dressed like.
- 29:38Speaker 5: He didn't have a twin? It's not like a history...
- 29:40Speaker 5: He's not doing a project? I don't think so. I
- 29:42Speaker 5: don't think so.
- 29:44Speaker 6: I think he may be part of a band. the
- 29:46Speaker 6: lincolns do the lincolns play at auburn that'd be a
- 29:49Speaker 6: pretty good club down there big songs emancipation proclamation.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Yeah you you remember in and like in elementary school
- 29:56Speaker 1: they would make you dress up as like whoever you're
- 29:58Speaker 1: doing a presentation for i don't think that's a thing in.
- 30:01Speaker 6: College though yeah you don't do book reports no i
- 30:05Speaker 6: don't think so he had a briefcase he was uh
- 30:08Speaker 6: weirdly tall and he had a lincoln-like hat on walking
- 30:12Speaker 6: to class he cannot tell a lie that's georgia washington
- 30:15Speaker 6: oh yeah very good abe was on his day too
- 30:19Speaker 6: he didn't lie about chopping down the cherry tree right
- 30:21Speaker 6: now maybe abe didn't say i cannot tell a lie
- 30:24Speaker 6: but he was honest abe i'm right right lance.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Uh he was honest abe he was yeah yeah.
- 30:29Speaker 6: See brown has me in the worst seat because i
- 30:32Speaker 6: can people watch Through a window, but I only get
- 30:35Speaker 6: 1.5 seconds of them walking by the window.
- 30:37Speaker 5: I can see them coming from further away. Don't know
- 30:39Speaker 5: why he gets like a flash. Yeah. Well, you spotted
- 30:42Speaker 5: those twins in a hurry. Don't worry.
- 30:44Speaker 6: They slowed down for that 1.5 seconds in my mind. Hey,

- 31:29Speaker 6: backslash clay. We get ready for this big college football
- 31:33Speaker 6: weekend coming up. And one thing I wanted to ask
- 31:36Speaker 6: you guys is quarterbacks and just how important they are.
- 31:42Speaker 5: They're huge in college football. The guy that.
- 31:45Speaker 6: We're going to see play here in Auburn tomorrow on
- 31:49Speaker 6: the CBS Sports list of top 50 quarterbacks, Byron Brown
- 31:54Speaker 6: is not listed there anymore. He's not a top 50
- 31:57Speaker 6: quarterback anymore. Sam Leavitt is 48th on their list right now.
- 32:02Speaker 6: Start with Byron Brown and then work to Sam Leavitt, guys.
- 32:06Speaker 6: Quarterbacks as we start to leave September that have disappointed
- 32:09Speaker 6: you the most.
- 32:10Speaker 5: That's two of them in my book.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:15Speaker 5: I mean, yeah. You didn't expect more from Byron Brown, right? Well,
- 32:19Speaker 5: but I expected more from Sam Levitt than I did
- 32:21Speaker 5: from Byron Brown, Lance. I think if you made me
- 32:24Speaker 5: say which one has disappointed me the most, it is
- 32:26Speaker 5: Sam Levitt. I can't hide the fact that when Brooks
- 32:29Speaker 5: got us to rank our quarterbacks, I had him number
- 32:31Speaker 5: one in the SEC. Now, a lot of that was
- 32:33Speaker 5: because of my faith in Lane Kiffin's development of quarterbacks.
- 32:36Speaker 5: But it has not shown up so far. So I
- 32:39Speaker 5: would go Sam Leavitt more so than Byron Brown. But
- 32:42Speaker 5: I certainly have been disappointed in what I've seen in
- 32:44Speaker 5: Byron Brown.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree on both. But I would go Arch Manning.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I mean, without that fourth quarter comeback, where is Arch
- 32:51Speaker 1: Manning in this whole discussion right now? Arch is completing 61%
- 32:55Speaker 1: of his passes, seven touchdowns through three games. He's turned
- 32:59Speaker 1: it over twice. He doesn't have a rushing touchdown. He's
- 33:02Speaker 1: only averaging four yards with his legs. He looks lost
- 33:06Speaker 1: at times. And I thought that he had really found
- 33:08Speaker 1: his compass last year. He had the slow start, and
- 33:11Speaker 1: then he, you know, give him a lot of credit.
- 33:14Speaker 1: He got into a groove at the end of the season,
- 33:16Speaker 1: and he looked like he was going to be one
- 33:17Speaker 1: of the best quarterbacks in college football.
- 33:20Speaker 3: And where do they list him on that?
- 33:23Speaker 5: I'll chase that down for you. I mean, I picked
- 33:25Speaker 5: him to win the Heisman.
- 33:26Speaker 6: But Tennessee's path to victory tomorrow in that big game
- 33:30Speaker 6: starts with Arch Manning, right?
- 33:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I would agree. Arch shitting the bed. I mean,
- 33:34Speaker 1: if you're Tennessee, it is, you know, let Arch make mistakes,
- 33:37Speaker 1: run the football with Deshaun Bishop, and I do think
- 33:40Speaker 1: Tennessee's defense is going to give him problems.
- 33:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, especially playing on the road, again, our
- 33:47Speaker 5: on-the-road Arch has been different than home Arch, so that
- 33:51Speaker 5: is a factor in this game, and Tennessee is a
- 33:53Speaker 5: very difficult place to play, Lance, and I know We
- 33:55Speaker 5: talk about the difference in stadium atmospheres for 230 games
- 34:00Speaker 5: or primetime games. The 11 o'clock games don't feel like
- 34:03Speaker 5: they get as juiced, but I promise you that's going
- 34:06Speaker 5: to be a juiced atmosphere that Arch is going to
- 34:07Speaker 5: face tomorrow. Yeah, absolutely. We're leaving September. Tell me.
- 34:14Speaker 6: Quarterbacks that have surprised you coming out of September that
- 34:18Speaker 6: have stepped up. We expected Trinidad Chambliss to be good.
- 34:23Speaker 6: I don't know what you guys expected of Keelan Russell
- 34:25Speaker 6: at Alabama, but he's delivered, if not over-delivered for.
- 34:29Speaker 5: Me so far.
- 34:31Speaker 3: I would agree.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I think Keelan has looked the part. I think the
- 34:34Speaker 1: game is slowing down week in, week out for him. So, again,
- 34:40Speaker 1: I think his potential, I mean, the ceiling is so.
- 34:42Speaker 3: High for him. I mean, Camario would be one of
- 34:45Speaker 3: those guys. Keinholz to me, though.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I think the way he is playing right now, Keen Holtz,
- 34:52Speaker 1: I should say, at Louisville, I mean, he has been
- 34:54Speaker 1: unbelievable outside of that first half against Ole Miss.
- 34:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, that's been the guy that, I'm with Dunaway. Like,
- 35:01Speaker 5: maybe I need to take these coaches more seriously. They just,
- 35:04Speaker 5: there's so much coach speak, it's hard to believe a
- 35:06Speaker 5: lot of what they say sometimes, Lance. But I don't
- 35:09Speaker 5: know about you, but when Ryan Day used to try
- 35:12Speaker 5: to sell us that Keen Holtz and Julian Sayen We're
- 35:15Speaker 5: battling it out for the starting job. I'm kind of like, Dunaway,
- 35:17Speaker 5: I thought he's just being nice to his backup because
- 35:20Speaker 5: this kid may hit the portal and he's trying to
- 35:22Speaker 5: help him. You watch now and you're like, boy, that
- 35:24Speaker 5: must have been one heck of a battle.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I think Keane Holtz is the better quarterback, at least, again,
- 35:29Speaker 1: back to the upside, back to the ceiling. Julian Sayen,
- 35:33Speaker 1: I mean, you can't really argue with what he did,
- 35:35Speaker 1: completion percentage last year. But he has been a surprise
- 35:39Speaker 1: to me.
- 35:40Speaker 5: I'll tell you a guy that has surprised me, Lance,
- 35:42Speaker 5: and his level of play is Nikko. At UCLA. Now, again,
- 35:46Speaker 5: I don't know that UCLA has been, well, I think
- 35:48Speaker 5: the other day when we went tested, not tested, we
- 35:50Speaker 5: all went not tested, right, with UCLA? That's right. But
- 35:53Speaker 5: it looks like Bob Chesney has been able to unlock
- 35:56Speaker 5: a little bit in Nico that Deshaun Foster certainly could
- 36:00Speaker 5: not unlock, but also that Josh Eipel couldn't unlock. I'd
- 36:06Speaker 5: like to know what things we missed the most so
- 36:09Speaker 5: far here in September. Not just quarterback play. It could
- 36:12Speaker 5: be teams here, coaches, what? Because this is the third
- 36:16Speaker 5: of the season that's done already. Excuse me, a fourth
- 36:18Speaker 5: of the season. After this weekend, it'll be a third
- 36:20Speaker 5: of the season. What do you think you missed most
- 36:22Speaker 5: on so far?
- 36:23Speaker 3: Probably Oregon.
- 36:25Speaker 1: I mean, I think a lot of us had Oregon
- 36:26Speaker 1: playing for the national championship, and look, it could still happen.
- 36:29Speaker 1: But after them struggling for a full 60 minutes in
- 36:32Speaker 1: Alton against Boise State, they turn around and go on
- 36:34Speaker 1: the road as a 24.5-point favorite, and they lose outright
- 36:38Speaker 1: to Oklahoma State. Portland State, just talking to Furman about that,
- 36:42Speaker 1: you can't really get a gauge there. But if they
- 36:44Speaker 1: were to go into the Coliseum and drop this game
- 36:47Speaker 1: as a favorite against USC and have two losses going
- 36:50Speaker 1: into October when we said this is the year that
- 36:53Speaker 1: Dan Lanning's going to get it figured out, his quarterback's
- 36:55Speaker 1: coming back, he's had deep runs, but he's gotten blown
- 37:00Speaker 1: out the last two years in the college football playoff,
- 37:02Speaker 1: this is his year. If he's already got two losses,
- 37:04Speaker 1: good chance they don't make it to the college football playoff.
- 37:09Speaker 5: I'm trying to think of, not that I missed all things,
- 37:12Speaker 5: but I'm just.
- 37:13Speaker 6: Trying to think of what I missed.
- 37:15Speaker 5: I missed on Sam Leavitt, but we've already discussed that.
- 37:19Speaker 5: I missed on him in September. He's got time to
- 37:21Speaker 5: turn it around, obviously, but his September has not been
- 37:24Speaker 5: what I thought you would get out of Sam Leavitt.
- 37:27Speaker 5: I guess I missed on Arch, Lance. I picked him
- 37:28Speaker 5: to win the Heisman. You win the Heisman in November?
- 37:34Speaker 5: But Arch, at least at quarterback right now, Arch will
- 37:37Speaker 5: probably go into this weekend in Heisman terms behind definitely
- 37:42Speaker 5: Trinidad Chambliss, definitely Darian Mensah. Who else quarterback-wise do you.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Think is behind? I'll go non-quarterbacks.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith, Malachi Toney are over him right now. Kamario
- 37:53Speaker 1: Taylor's got better odds right now, or shorter odds, I
- 37:56Speaker 1: should say. So there's a lot. You know who's not
- 37:59Speaker 1: there is John Mateer, so I'll own Oklahoma. But I'm
- 38:02Speaker 1: not ready yet because if Oklahoma was to win in
- 38:06Speaker 1: Athens tomorrow, you guys can laugh out loud. It's exactly
- 38:10Speaker 1: where I thought this team would be because I thought they.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Were going to lose to Michigan.
- 38:13Speaker 5: You're right. No, you are absolutely right. If they win
- 38:16Speaker 5: this game in Athens, I do laugh out loud on
- 38:19Speaker 5: that one, Lance. You know how I feel.
- 38:21Speaker 6: I will say this Auburn team that plays this weekend.
- 38:26Speaker 5: You missed on them?
- 38:27Speaker 1: I did.
- 38:28Speaker 6: I thought they would beat Florida and it's no shame
- 38:31Speaker 6: losing to Florida, but for some reason with the way
- 38:34Speaker 6: they've looked through the three games, I don't believe they're
- 38:37Speaker 6: going to reach the pinnacle.
- 38:38Speaker 5: I thought they were going to reach. I don't think
- 38:40Speaker 5: they're going.
- 38:40Speaker 6: To be a eight win team knocking out nine or
- 38:45Speaker 6: bottom seven. I it's hard for me to see this team.
- 38:48Speaker 6: Like I'm really worried about this game tomorrow against me. Oh,
- 38:51Speaker 6: I think there's a lot to worry about in this
- 38:52Speaker 6: game against Vanderbilt Lance. And I guess you would ask
- 38:55Speaker 6: the question. Do you feel like Auburn's playing for bowl
- 38:59Speaker 6: eligibility tomorrow? I mean, I know it is September, what, 25th,
- 39:03Speaker 6: 26th when that game kicks. But when you start to
- 39:06Speaker 6: do the math with a loss, I mean, don't you
- 39:08Speaker 6: kind of feel like we may look back on the
- 39:11Speaker 6: Vanderbilt game as the swing to whether Auburn goes to
- 39:13Speaker 6: a bowl or not?
- 39:14Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, 100%.
- 39:15Speaker 1: If they lose this game, and I think we might
- 39:17Speaker 1: have talked about it earlier in the week, I don't
- 39:18Speaker 1: know how they get bowl eligible. I mean, they're basically
- 39:22Speaker 1: a double-digit favorite against Vanderbilt. Again, a team that's won
- 39:25Speaker 1: 14 of the last 17. It will be Curtis' first
- 39:28Speaker 1: SEC road start. But up front, you mentioned it earlier, Brown.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I mean, this is a team that is 123rd nationally
- 39:35Speaker 1: in sacks allowed. They've already allowed 13 sacks through three games.
- 39:39Speaker 1: And on the other side, Vanderbilt, fourth nationally, 12 sacks.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, if they lose this game, an 0-4
- 39:48Speaker 5: October is absolutely on the table. Now, I'm not saying
- 39:51Speaker 5: they will do that, but I am saying if they
- 39:53Speaker 5: win this game, an 0-4 October is on the table.
- 39:56Speaker 5: Win or lose, that October is just absolutely brutal for them.
- 39:59Speaker 6: It just hasn't looked the way I thought it was
- 40:02Speaker 6: going to look. They could still have the same record
- 40:04Speaker 6: and have looked better. I know it was a 44-39 game,
- 40:08Speaker 6: but it just didn't feel like it. It just felt different.
- 40:12Speaker 6: I'm hoping tomorrow that they come out and They're buttoned
- 40:16Speaker 6: up and they run the football and Byron Brown looks
- 40:19Speaker 6: what we thought he was going to look like. Because
- 40:20Speaker 6: right now, the one thing that everyone is saying is, oh,
- 40:24Speaker 6: we were worried if what he was able to do
- 40:26Speaker 6: at USF against lesser competition would translate up here. And
- 40:30Speaker 6: right now, I think people are starting to question whether
- 40:32Speaker 6: or not it's going to. And it's not just the quarterback.
- 40:34Speaker 6: It's the offensive lineman.
- 40:35Speaker 5: Yeah, it's the defense. The defense has been badly disappointing. Yeah.
- 40:39Speaker 6: So September, we say goodbye to that. One more thing
- 40:41Speaker 6: in this segment. Tell us about one of our great

- 41:59Speaker 6: Listen, I don't know if you and Furman hit on
- 42:01Speaker 6: this number or not. I don't even know if there's
- 42:03Speaker 6: a real number, but I'd love to give me a
- 42:05Speaker 6: guess on this number for tomorrow's game between Iowa and Michigan, Lance.
- 42:10Speaker 6: If I said number of punts in that game, could
- 42:14Speaker 6: you give me a realistic number over under number on
- 42:17Speaker 6: the number of punts in the Iowa-Michigan game?
- 42:22Speaker 3: Oh, I would go nine and a half.
- 42:26Speaker 5: Okay, so first of all, how many total possessions do
- 42:28Speaker 5: you think will be in this game?
- 42:29Speaker 3: Total possessions.
- 42:35Speaker 3: That's what I was trying to figure out on the fly.
- 42:37Speaker 1: I was going to say 18 total possessions.
- 42:42Speaker 5: I was going to go lower than that. Well, I mean,
- 42:45Speaker 5: incompletions stop the clock, and I do think you'll have
- 42:47Speaker 5: a lot of incompletions. But I also think neither team
- 42:51Speaker 5: trusts their quarterback that much. I think you'll have a
- 42:52Speaker 5: lot of running, which will burn the clock. I was
- 42:55Speaker 5: going to say 14 possessions.
- 42:56Speaker 6: But if everybody gets the ball twice in each quarter,
- 42:59Speaker 6: that ends up being what?
- 43:00Speaker 5: So that's 16. So if you go 16, right, between
- 43:03Speaker 5: nine punts, Lance, you're punting in more than half the possessions.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw this the other day. I'm trying to
- 43:08Speaker 1: pull it. It was forever ago. The record for punts
- 43:11Speaker 1: in a college game. Oh, I saw that, Lance. It's
- 43:13Speaker 1: like 77. Yeah, I thought it was 66. But yeah, 70,
- 43:18Speaker 1: you're right. 1939, it was between.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Centenary and Texas Tech, 77 punts, zero points.
- 43:28Speaker 5: So that was back in the day, though, where you
- 43:29Speaker 5: might punt on first or second down, right? That's right.
- 43:32Speaker 5: That was not uncommon back in the day to punt
- 43:34Speaker 5: on an early down just because you were playing a
- 43:36Speaker 5: field position game, and the punt was the better way
- 43:38Speaker 5: to improve field position than run your offense. Yeah, I guess.
- 43:41Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Should Oklahoma try this?
- 43:46Speaker 5: What if they did that in Athens? The old first
- 43:48Speaker 5: down punt.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Can you imagine?
- 43:52Speaker 5: It's the best line of the day.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Can you imagine November 11, 1939, being in Shreveport, Louisiana,
- 43:58Speaker 1: to watch 77 punts in a scoreless game?
- 44:02Speaker 5: No, I can't. No, thank you.
- 44:04Speaker 6: See, that should not be the record. We should have
- 44:06Speaker 6: a record book that modern day football. And I don't
- 44:09Speaker 6: know when you would start that. I would say 1970.
- 44:12Speaker 1: That 3-2 Auburn-Mississippi State game, how many punts did we
- 44:16Speaker 1: have in that one?
- 44:17Speaker 5: Okay, let's do this.
- 44:19Speaker 6: Brooks, if you'll do this, I know Brooks loves it,
- 44:21Speaker 6: or somebody, go and check that box score out from
- 44:24Speaker 6: whatever year that was, 3-2 Auburn over Mississippi State, and
- 44:28Speaker 6: see how many punts was in that game. We'll take
- 44:30Speaker 6: one more break here. This is the next round on
- 44:33Speaker 6: Sporting State. Back with you here at Moe's Original Barbecue
- 44:36Speaker 6: in Auburn, getting ready for the Vandy-Auburn weekend that is
- 44:39Speaker 6: part of a massive SEC weekend. Not ranked teams here,
- 44:43Speaker 6: but we've got four ranked games, ranked on ranked in
- 44:46Speaker 6: the SEC. First time any conference has ever done that
- 44:49Speaker 6: within conference play in the AP poll history, which takes
- 44:53Speaker 6: you back to the mid-30s. Before Brownie tells us about XXXY,
- 44:59Speaker 6: interesting day yesterday, the Cubs clinched in baseball, but out
- 45:02Speaker 6: in the outfield, it was likely Ian Happ's last regular
- 45:07Speaker 6: season home game with the Cubbies. And Ian Happ went
- 45:11Speaker 6: out there and threw a baseball into the stands with
- 45:14Speaker 6: a note saying, here's $ 300. He had wrapped rubber bands
- 45:17Speaker 6: and $ 300 around the baseball and said, For the fans
- 45:22Speaker 6: and the bleachers, the beers are on me.
- 45:24Speaker 5: That's cool. Now $ 300 didn't go far. I don't know
- 45:27Speaker 5: how many people he fed. But the intention was good, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 45:31Speaker 5: That's a pretty cool thing, Lance. I don't know how
- 45:34Speaker 5: many dollars you'd have to throw out there to feed
- 45:36Speaker 5: the bleachers, but that was a start at least. That's
- 45:38Speaker 5: a pretty cool sentiment.
- 45:39Speaker 1: I mean, hey, you know, these GoFundMes have got to
- 45:42Speaker 1: start somewhere, right? Hey, by the way, I've got the
- 45:44Speaker 1: number of punts from Auburn 3-2 over Mississippi State.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Okay. Can we guess?
- 45:50Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys guess. Do you remember the starting quarterbacks?
- 45:53Speaker 5: Oh, God. That was going to be our buddy Ben Leard?
- 45:57Speaker 3: Nope. Chris Todd.
- 46:00Speaker 5: Chris Todd, yeah. Actually, a really good broadcaster, Chris Todd.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Much more efficient than Wesley Carroll on the other side
- 46:07Speaker 1: for Mississippi State. Chris Todd was 14-26, 154, no touchdowns,
- 46:12Speaker 1: no picks.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Wesley Carroll, how about this box?
- 46:16Speaker 1: 10-25, 78 yards, average 3.1 per attempt, zero touchdowns and
- 46:23Speaker 1: one pick.
- 46:24Speaker 3: But, yeah, you guys have at it on the number
- 46:26Speaker 3: of punts.
- 46:28Speaker 6: I'm going to say... First time through for way more
- 46:30Speaker 6: yards than I remember. Yeah, with the box score there,
- 46:33Speaker 6: I'm going to go with Lance's number. I'm going to
- 46:35Speaker 6: say it's under 9.5 at 9.
- 46:36Speaker 5: I'll go 10. I'll say there were 10 total punts.
- 46:38Speaker 3: 18 punts.
- 46:41Speaker 5: Shut the door. Are you kidding me? 18 punts. I
- 46:43Speaker 5: can't believe there were that many possessions.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Yeah, 8 for Auburn and 10 for Blake McAdams was
- 46:49Speaker 1: the punter for Mississippi State.
- 46:50Speaker 3: Well, I would assume it was a bunch of 3-and-outs, right?
- 46:52Speaker 5: Yeah, it was. I guess so. I looked it up. The.
- 46:56Speaker 6: Through the first quarter and a half, if you look
- 46:59Speaker 6: at the play-by-play here, here is the possession breakdown.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Mississippi State punt. Auburn punt. Mississippi State punt. Auburn punt.
- 47:07Speaker 3: State punt.
- 47:07Speaker 5: Auburn punt.
- 47:08Speaker 3: State punt. Auburn punt. State punt.
- 47:10Speaker 5: Field goal good. Halfway through the second quarter. I watched it.
- 47:13Speaker 6: Tommy Tuberville a conservative back then and now still a
- 47:16Speaker 6: conservative now.
- 47:17Speaker 5: Tell us about XXXY. It is the clothing brand that
- 47:22Speaker 5: took a stand for fair competition. That's their words. Empower
- 47:25Speaker 5: female athletes. Take a stand for fair competition. Jennifer Say
- 47:28Speaker 5: was a national champion gymnast. She was Levi's brand president.
- 47:32Speaker 5: And she walked away from a corporate job rather than
- 47:34Speaker 5: say something she did not believe in. She started XXXY
- 47:37Speaker 5: Athletics instead. You can get the official Nashville Bulls gear
- 47:41Speaker 5: right there. Clay Travis, future WNBA franchise. Trucker hats and
- 47:44Speaker 5: tees out for that. But it's also other stuff. Real
- 47:48Speaker 5: athletic apparel, not just a slogan on a shirt. Performance tops, tanks,
- 47:51Speaker 5: sports bras, leggings, shorts, training sets. Hoodies, hats, graphic tees,
- 47:55Speaker 5: men's and women's clothing. It is clothing worn by athletes
- 47:59Speaker 5: who've actually put something on the line. New customers get 20%

- 48:13Speaker 6: Don't forget the next round continues two more hours on
- 48:16Speaker 6: our platforms. When you are done with Clay and Buck,
- 48:19Speaker 6: you can come back and catch our content throughout the
- 48:21Speaker 6: evening or tomorrow morning at Next Round Live on YouTube.
- 48:25Speaker 6: Like and subscribe on all our social media platforms at
- 48:28Speaker 6: Next Round Live. We do get Clemson and Cal tonight
- 48:31Speaker 6: as well. That's the the brand-name games tonight, the Power
- 48:34Speaker 6: 4 game of note. And Dabo actually got booed in
- 48:37Speaker 6: his own stadium last week, Lance, and now he's on
- 48:40Speaker 6: the road to California a little. I know you probably
- 48:43Speaker 6: have a play at lanceslock.com, but both of you, how
- 48:45Speaker 6: do you feel about Dabo and their chances tonight? They
- 48:48Speaker 6: won't have the best quarterback in the building, right?
- 48:50Speaker 3: They will not.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Sagapula Telly will be your best quarterback. But you look
- 48:55Speaker 1: at this Clemson offense. They are 128th in total offense,
- 48:58Speaker 1: 120th in scoring offense. The defense is 95th in scoring defense,
- 49:04Speaker 1: 116th in total defense.
- 49:06Speaker 3: This is just not a good team. I still don't
- 49:08Speaker 3: know how, coming out.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Of that weather delay, they were able to win that
- 49:12Speaker 1: North Carolina game.
- 49:13Speaker 5: I really don't either. and i mean there was for
- 49:17Speaker 5: most of the game north carolina looked like the better
- 49:18Speaker 5: team where dabbo got booed one of the places i
- 49:21Speaker 5: think it was the first place is right before the
- 49:23Speaker 5: half when they finally get down in the red zone
- 49:25Speaker 5: and they got fourth and goal from like the two
- 49:28Speaker 5: or three and he kicks the field goal and the
- 49:30Speaker 5: crowd booed and i know they're frustrated but i'm like
- 49:33Speaker 5: that's the thing to do take the point to play
- 49:35Speaker 5: it turns out to be the to the right call
- 49:38Speaker 5: I mean Lance you got Tate Reynolds making his first
- 49:39Speaker 5: start you're really going to run a fourth and three
- 49:41Speaker 5: from the goal.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Yeah I mean do you guys have any excitement about
- 49:44Speaker 1: this game at all I mean I like the fact
- 49:46Speaker 1: that it's a late Friday night game and it is
- 49:49Speaker 1: one brand and there there is an interesting angle I
- 49:52Speaker 1: mean you know Tosh's first year if he was to
- 49:54Speaker 1: lose this game and I did bring it up to
- 49:56Speaker 1: Furman I was like how many teams would be in
- 49:59Speaker 1: this position in the SEC and he was like probably
- 50:02Speaker 1: just Arkansas yeah.
- 50:03Speaker 5: I mean that is that's crazy to think about but
- 50:06Speaker 5: I mean, just the train wreck nature of it, the
- 50:09Speaker 5: Clemson train wreck nature is kind of the appeal. This
- 50:12Speaker 5: is a season teetering, and I think Dabo's tenure there,
- 50:15Speaker 5: not that he's going to get fired, but at some point,
- 50:18Speaker 5: do they start to have the tough discussion with him about, hey,
- 50:20Speaker 5: would you retire? We'll pay you to retire.
- 50:22Speaker 6: After Miami and Louisville and SMU, Cal was an off-season
- 50:27Speaker 6: talking point that.
- 50:28Speaker 5: Maybe with Saga Patel, Yeah, Lance got it. Yeah, Lance
- 50:33Speaker 5: nailed it.
- 50:34Speaker 6: With him at quarterback, maybe they can make a run
- 50:36Speaker 6: and be that second team in the ACC championship game,
- 50:39Speaker 6: and they have not looked at here in September. Maybe
- 50:42Speaker 6: they can turn it around tonight. By the way, just quickly,
- 50:45Speaker 6: how fate can change. North Carolina blew that game last
- 50:48Speaker 6: week with Billy Edwards at quarterback, who has passed for
- 50:52Speaker 6: 611 yards and three touchdowns. Remember, Gio Lopez was the quarterback.
- 50:57Speaker 6: He's tearing it up at Wake, may not play this weekend.
- 51:00Speaker 6: But the guy that was on campus, at North Carolina
- 51:03Speaker 6: and then left last moment. He went to Purdue, was
- 51:08Speaker 6: Ryan Brown, who has passed already for over 1,000 yards
- 51:12Speaker 6: this year and seven touchdowns. He was at North Carolina
- 51:16Speaker 6: at the last moment, portaled his way to Purdue and
- 51:18Speaker 6: not to UNC.
- 51:20Speaker 1: You know, Ryan Brown, one of two FBS quarterbacks with
- 51:23Speaker 1: 1,000-plus in three games.
- 51:24Speaker 3: So congratulations.
- 51:26Speaker 5: One of two? One of two. Who's the other one?
- 51:29Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 51:30Speaker 1: Mayaba's got 1,100 through four, but I don't know the
- 51:34Speaker 1: other one that's got 1,000 through three.
- 51:35Speaker 3: It's got to be Trinidad, right?
- 51:38Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 51:40Speaker 5: That's a good question. I'll look it up. We'll start
- 51:43Speaker 5: the next half of the show with that. I'll find it.
- 51:45Speaker 6: Okay, we'll roll through our time here on Sports State.
- 51:49Speaker 6: You guys have a great weekend. Clay and Buck's up next.
- 51:52Speaker 5: Hang around. We'll give you a new link
- 51:54Speaker 6: For our At Next Round live on all of our
- 51:56Speaker 6: platforms on this Football Friday.
