- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right, welcome into our live stream Sports Illustrated.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Pat 40 and Brian Fisher's joining me.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to react live to the college football playoff top 25 third week of the rankings and that is about to be unveiled now between games of the champions classic and Madison Square Garden Michigan State routed Kentucky in the first game.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're waiting for Kansas and Duke, but in the meantime,
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to get this football in here, Brian, anything in particular, you're looking for is the rankings start to unfold.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think the biggest is just kind of will this new committee make up, you know, we're going to have a new chairman in terms of mac roads has been swapped out for 100 year check the Arkansas AD so there's new chairman that's actually speaking for the committee a new member in Mark Carl and Utah AD so does that produce any changes does that affect the big 12 in any way does it look like a, you know, it might make my any that note or my any note or date question a little bit different.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: And we've kind of seen in the past.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that would be kind of the first thing that would pop out to me.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: And then obviously, you know, the chaos that we both experienced in the SEC this past week.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the Texas still remain right where do they fall in the rankings because that's going to impact a lot of teams in terms of being a top 25 when you look at where is Oklahoma, where is Alabama, even though they got a clear path to the SEC title.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's actually one of the more interesting set of rankings that we're going to get from the committee with all those things going on on top of the fact that we also have a little bit of a group of five debate down there at the bottom that will be certainly interesting to a lot of interested fans at James Madison at North Texas at Tulane really all across the American as well.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's going to be very intriguing.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, is there a team in there at all and secondly, how high and which one is it from which conference?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: So we look at that and yeah, the SEC pecking order for sure.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're starting to roll them out here.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: Illinois 25, Missouri 24.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, now I'm going the wrong way.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: 22 Missouri, 21 Illinois now that they're not doing this any help with throwing these all up at the same time, but we got Georgia Tech at 16 Texas drops down to 17 Michigan Virginia and Tennessee, 18, 19 and 20 as well.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Texas pretty big drop there seven spots that that that is significant Georgia Tech ahead of them and it looks like Miami will stay ahead of Georgia Tech will see if it's just one spotter if that gets any different.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and if you catch my, my bowl projections there at onside.com, Texas, Michigan is is one of the kind of very, very easy things that you can kind of pencil in for the post seasons.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: That could be a very interesting debate as well within the committee in terms of Texas versus Michigan.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: Then certainly Michigan would moving up above Texas would be interesting because that would certainly help the big 10.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: And there race, not only for Michigan to get in, potentially if they upset Ohio State yet again, but it could also help some of the other teams, you know, like USC, which checks in the number 15, potentially getting in if they went out as well.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: You'll see up two spots to 15.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's progress.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: For the Trojans going into a huge game against Oregon this weekend.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: In Eugene, I'll be there for that one.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: See who we've got at 14.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's like we got Vanderbilt at number 14 right ahead of USC and you know, the doors are another one of those very interesting teams that you can think as a too lost team if they do went out, especially against a Tennessee team that is ranked in the top 25 at the end of the year, maybe they're one of those teams that probably needs a little chaos to happen, but it could be that six SEC team into the rankings.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: Miami moves up to 13.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, they've separated a bit from Georgia Tech and they are knocking on the door.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's going to be a lot of Miami discussion going forward, especially in light of them having beaten Notre Dame head to head.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: I heard a little bit more about that as things went along and I think that's going to continue if they end up with the same records that might be a factor.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: When I think there's also an interesting case, too, with Miami in terms of where they are in the pecking order in terms of symbols at large possibilities because there's one spot behind Utah.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Miami has better wins than Utah right now.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, it's a more difficult path for the the canes there to actually make it to the ACC championship game and get one of those automatic bits, but it's not crazy to think.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: But the fact that Miami's behind BYU and Utah in the rankings, I think that's a little bit notable in terms of
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Can the ACC get two teams in to the playoffs versus the big 12th there?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and again, that continues the trend that the committee likes the big 12th a lot more than they like the ACC.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think if we were asking about, you know, those changes from one committee to the next.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's there's one of them.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't see any change in terms of which the conference that committee kind of values.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Here we go.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Top 10 Alabama at 10.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe a spot lower than I had them, that's interesting.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: So we got a Notre Dame at nine, we thank you.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so that would mean there's quite a bit of gap still between Miami and Notre Dame.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: So that's quite a big gap in terms of the rankings between those two that you would think would have that head head comparison, but based on this and Notre Dame checking in at number nine there,
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: that that those two teams are not being compared at all directly by the committee because that they are too far apart uh... truly come up on those screens uh... based on kind of the selection criteria the committee goes through and all that so i think you know if you're a Miami fan maybe hoping that i were the case you'd have more that debate uh... with you in the Irish it doesn't look like that's going to come to pass at all uh... unless we get some more chaos down the stretch here in the last two weeks of the regular season
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: Also, the committee is separating Alabama and Oklahoma, you know, again, we're a couple of weeks away from things, but I thought that could be an eight nine rematch game, potentially in Norman and now, if you've gotten Notre Dame at nine, that means, you know, for now, again, Alabama and Oklahoma are not slotted to play a first round game.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's Oklahoma at eight, and the Notre Dame Oklahoma, first round game in Norman.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that would generate some interest.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the only question would be whether ABCSP and takes that for their Friday night game.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: They're in the cow palace or goes up to put that on Saturday morning in terms of that big brand name matchup.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: Because we'd both know those two teams are gonna drive eyeballs.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: I attended the last Notre Dame at Oklahoma Game in 2012.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: Notre Dame handed their Oklahoma their heads, went on to the championship game.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: There's Oregon at seven.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: pretty well, as anticipated there, ducks obviously, again, they got a big one against number 15 USC in Austin Stadium on Saturday, and that will go a long way to deciding whether the big 10 is getting three or 14s into this tournament.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then we got the old mess who has probably been the subject of college football this week with all that's going on with Lane Kiffin there at number six.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think the rebel certainly with just the egg bowl to to go that price makes them pretty comfortable.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think I put them as as a lock in our latest projections on that side at common.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think if seeing them at number six definitely confirms that right now.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, if they lose to Mississippi State, you have to reconsider and there's another topic on that front that we can get into later.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: Texas Tech at number five makes perfect sense to me.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Great season there.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: They've continued to win in dominant fashion.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: They had the one loss to ASU, but they blown out everyone else on the schedule.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you know you look at this and you take this top 25 and you actually bracket it out that might be the best position in the bracket to be is that number five you're going to get a home game almost assuredly against the group of five team so you don't get that long layover and in the week off and all the discussion about you know do you want to play right away do you want the buy and get the quarter final rest and and all that stuff.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: you get to play a group of five team, which you should be, especially with that defense that they got there at Texas Tech and they probably are probably blocked from from moving up and unless Texas upsets Texas A&M into the top four to get that quarter final birth, but I think if your Texas Tech in the way that bracket sets out, you want that number five seed and you're sitting pretty in terms of what it looks like.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: And as expected, Georgia moves up to four and the top three are unchanged.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: They're the last three on beaten teams, Texas A&M at three, Indiana, two, and Ohio State at one.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: And who you look at this at the way that the brackets set up there.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like the potential quarter final games, oh my gosh, winner of Oklahoma, Notre Dame playing Ohio State,
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm Alabama organ playing Indiana Miami Ole Miss playing Texas A&M give me some of that.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, this is in terms of the big brands and the great teams, I think everybody would sign this up and I just, you know, fascinating matchups too.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, not only just the way these seasons have played out, you know, you look at Notre Dame going on too, but running the table, how they would have momentum, I think, Oklahoma with the way that they beat Alabama, probably they have to win against Missouri and LSUD in the year, they'd have some momentum.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: So that would be a fascinating eight, nine matchup, whoever goes into the the ACC championship game likely to be.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: going into Old Miss and in the Grove, hosting the first round playoff game, I think that's something a lot of folks would sign up for, and it would certainly be quite the compelling matchup there, too, if Alabama has to go on the road to Otson and Kale and DeBore, former Washington coach going back to Oregon, and I think that would be quite the story line as well.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, is what it's like to play there, I mean, there's just all these matchups are going to be fantastic when we get to it.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what plot twists there may still be in the last couple of weeks, but the potentially the biggest plot twist is Lane Kiffin status at Mississippi and as you noted, Mississippi has become the talking point of the week and the potential for a
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Kiffin deadline, that's been refuted by him, but reported by several other people, of make a decision, are you our coach or are you not going forward by the egg bowl, which is November 28th, and what the after effects could be if he says I'm leaving and he doesn't coach his team in the playoff.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: Let me ask you a couple of things about this.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: First of all,
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: Is there any scenario?
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: We're in a kiffinless Mississippi team is dropped significantly in the rankings.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: You remember what happened to Florida State when they're quarterback Jordan Travis got injured a couple of years ago, and they decided they were a lesser team and took them out of the Floor 14 playoff at 13 and 0.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: Is there any chance that Ole Miss is penalized by not having Lane Kiffin?
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you're reading my mind because I think I was one of the my my column ideas after this this set of rankings as I was going to write about on SI dot com because it is something that the committee would have to consider not just in terms of including them in the field or not, which I think at this point if they were 11 and one it would be hard to keep the actual team out.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: but they could definitely consider the bracketing principles of not having your head coach in that.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're talking about not only you're losing your head coach, if you're if you're old miss and seeing Lane Kiff and Lee for another conference arrival, but to have that impact you to where you get that taken away, that first round playoff game on campus, all the tailgating that would be there for there at the Grove.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: I already one of the great environments in college
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, as much as hatred as lane gets from Tennessee fans, I think the old Miss fans would be prepared to absolutely riot if that were to the be the case.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: And frankly, the committee probably should consider that given how involved he is, I know Charlie Charlie Y's junior is the O.C.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: there, but given how involved lane kiffin is in terms of game planning, in terms of calling those plays, in terms of scheming things up, it would be absolutely had to be something that the committee would consider.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, as you point it out, it's not just that he's the head coach, but he's the play color.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: He is the offensive, my stroke.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: And so he is extremely involved in the actual Calling of the game and the way the game unfolds for them, and you take that out, and I think it's an even bigger.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: thing for the committee to potentially deal with.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now maybe Lane Kiffin, short circuits, all of this by saying I'm staying or maybe he and Ole Miss arrive at an agreement of like you're unleaving, but I'm going to coach the playoff and we don't deal with this, but as of right now, I think that is one of a couple of different things looming heavily over this playoff is, you know, you
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do with Ole Miss if they don't have their coach, which I think would be the biggest travesty we've seen in a long, long time?
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: One, you know, for all the lack of the committee has gotten over their decisions and probably will by the end of the year in terms of, right, how can you not consider Miami versus Notre Dame that had had resolved if both those teams are 10 and 2, if they were the drop Ole Miss, like, especially the fewer out of the league office they're in Birmingham over the fact like, how could you, like, can you, like, that just gives us,
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: months and months.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: We're planning on talking about playoff expansion going to 16 or doing all this.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like I can only imagine the stern tones and the one liners that Greg Stanky is going to be delivering.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: When he speaks to us over the next couple of months and privately and in public in terms of if that were to happen and what his stance would be.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: on that because that to me would be like the the nuclear bombs in area.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: We got we got to blow the committee up.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe Tony Petiti is right in terms of getting all those automatic bids and where we're spotting putting teams and where we're going to bracket them that way.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe maybe that is the thing that brings the big tin and the SEC together is if they end up dropping Ole Miss so we will definitely see and have to figure out what they have to see going forward.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that could be the nuclear scenario that brings Petitian, Stinky, back to the other.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: Do you get her for the ruin for the ruination of the tournament, by the way, in my opinion.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: But as it is now, we've got to let it play out and see where this thing is going.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: But if the committee isn't at least thinking about that scenario, they should be.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: A couple of comments in here.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: uh... Andrew no j m u in the rankings s m h they did not get into lane is the only group of five team at number twenty four what's uh... your reaction to that vis-a-vis j m u
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, no, no surprise.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure if you're one of those James Madison fans out there, you probably saw you're ranking in the in the top 25 in the AP and you said, all right, maybe we got a chance to get into the community.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: But honestly, it was a bad week for that, you know, in terms of your your marquee loss, if you will, on the road at Louisville, close loss early in the season.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the lovel to go back out and lose again to Climpson on Friday night.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: That almost hurts, J.M.U., and not having that strength of schedule, and then you also got to consider who the team they would probably end up meeting in the Sunbelt title game in terms of a Southern Miss.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: They also took an inexplicable loss over the weekend.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: So resume-wise, it was a tough one for James Madison.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: They already needed kind of a perfect path in order to actually get into the playoff and leapfrog that American Champion.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think if anything, anybody really has an issue with that, it might be more Texas out of the American or even Navy, given them what they've played and that beating USF last week.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'd totally understand the terrain love and that's, that's going to be significant too in terms of if there are three
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: teams with one loss in the American this year.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: These committee rankings are going to probably end up determining who ends up hosting that that conference title game given some of the tiebreakers at play.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: So big time for the green wave, I think with the power four wins that they already have under the belt, no surprise to see them at the bottom of the rankings.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think the bigger question is, can North Texas move in over the next couple of weeks?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: Can Navy move into the next couple of weeks?
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: and Ken James Madison, if they keep winning, if they keep winning impressively too, maybe they do make it a little bit closer than the experts think going into that final selection Sunday where these teams have to be compared one versus the other.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think right now the committee is saying that just flat out the American is better than the Sunbelt.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: And so the competition they're facing weekend and week out,
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the top half of the American I think has been really good.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, five, six teams that are quality in that group.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think, you know, their losses in general to each other are not going to be held against them.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not sure what GM you can do to crack that unless they just dominate people for the next three weeks.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe they just keep beating each other up in the American.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: But right now, if you're the AAC, you got to be thinking, our champion is going to the tournament.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: on and almost a double whammy too for for James Madison fans because you got to figure if he ends if James Madison ends up not being ranked as the highest ranked conference champion that also has an impact on where Bob Chesney could end up taking a job it could be sooner rather than later because you got to think if if to lane is going to the playoff all right that puts John Summerals availability or Eric Morrison or Texas or whoever might
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: uh... that could put their availability in question because a lot of those head coaches there in the american that that are up in those standings uh... uh... arc and arc candidates for other jobs and so if they're in the playoff all right that's another couple weeks where you can't get hired by an offer you can get hired by an old miss if they they have that opening so it's also that not only the playoff uh... impact this it's also going to impact a pretty wild coaching care cell that we already saw uh... kind of get off to an interesting start uh... with the james franklin hiring at Virginia tech on monday
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, that's true, all those coaches in the group of five teams that are in competition are strong candidates for other jobs and we, you know, you certainly would hate to see what I'm saying.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know what, this is the greatest moment in our school's football history.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm leaving never mind.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: Which brings us back, of course, to Lane Kiffin in his situation.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: Amber comments, I hope Lane stays at Mississippi.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly Mississippi Hotes Lane stays at Mississippi, but boy, boy, there is some some hurt feelings and some anger there.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think just with the way this thing is unfolding, and we'll see if this reaches a critical mass or a toxic mass this week or next week or we're all sitting around Wednesday of Thanksgiving week or even Thursday or Friday morning waiting for some
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: puff of smoke from Oxford slash dark bills, and that's where the egg bowl is.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: And just that rivalry itself is certainly one of the the more bitter ones in the SEC.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, just absolute hatred on either side to like throw this onto the fire of that rivalry itself.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: I know it's not a night game anymore, so that does kind of take away things.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be 11 a.m. there and the cowbells are going to be clanging.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: and it's just going to be the environment there.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot imagine if Ole Miss were to lose that game, I cannot imagine if Ole Miss were to win that game convincingly, just all the chatter going on around that plus yet in the festivities from Black Friday and Thanksgiving all that.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: It really does ramp up next week for sure in terms of college football to add all the layers on plus that rivalry.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's perfect.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: That might be one for the ages for sure.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: They'll never top the game where Elijah Moore did the fake dog pee and ended up losing the game for Ole Miss and then both coaches got fired that was that was the old timer, but Still, yes, there is a lot.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be on the line there in that game even more than what you usually think Harrison explain to me why Notre Dame is nine with two losses especially to Miami.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: We touched on this a little while ago, but yes, Miami is number 13, Notre Dame is number nine, four spots in between them is Brian pointed out the committee doesn't see this as a hair splitting between these two, not with four spots between them.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: So Notre Dame is clearly ahead.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: Why that is way we're not we're doing this so we're not going to at at least for now here whether the slots of selection committees coming up with for rationale.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm sure that question will continue to be asked now if 100 year check the new chair.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's going to be a continuing debate, especially if they, you know, if Miami ends up 10 and two Notre Dame ends up 10 and two one with a head to head win over the other, but one sprang significantly ahead.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: And it does look like a hundred year checks said they are not being compared directly and have not been compared directly these last couple of weeks either in terms of the selection committee there so the fact that they are not on the same board that that is why I think it's more interesting that you know teams that are bunched around Miami Utah you know BYU some of the some of that I think that would actually be a bigger debate.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: In my mind, if you're an ACC fan for sure, but also in the big 12, in terms of, all right, what happens if you got a 10 and 2 Utah that does not make the big 12 championship game?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right, BYU ends up losing and they have two losses.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, are you going to put Utah, which is a team that you've respected quite a bit?
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: ahead of BYU that just lost their conference championship game to maybe a Texas tech that's going to be your four or five scene I think that could be another interesting scenario out there for the committee not going to matter right now because it looks like Obviously Alabama is going to be that last at large team in to the bracket, but could be an interesting scenario going into selection Sunday Especially given if Alabama were to lose that SEC championship game maybe play a close one there in Jordan hearing is Doburn
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: like there are a lot of scenarios where things could get very squirrely going down the stretch here with a lot of these teams.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: No doubt.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, and again, then BYU Utah situation.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: There's a head to head game there, too, which BYU won.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: But if that head to head counts.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: Notre Dame Miami should probably count too.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, we'll see how this sus is out.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: But the last couple of weeks of the regular season, the positioning is gonna be fascinating for sure.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Non-ado or something to that effect.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: How does the Army Navy gain not count?
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Wouldn't that be a rough look if Navy gets in and loses to Army?
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: great question.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is something, you know, one of these flaws in the system that everybody's just kind of said, well, deal with it.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: It'll probably never matter.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, last year it almost mattered with Army.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: This year it might matter with Navy.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I would say, you know, if if navy wins the American athletic conference championship and sits there with their current record,
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: They get in and people don't even bat an eye at what happens again, stormy, I think, but it still, it would be, it would again point out just one of the bugs in the system that is not easily fixed.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then, you know, the America just kind of tried to deal with this as best they can try to make changes here and there in terms of common standings and basically this is essentially non conference game after the season concludes and not going to have any impact on the committee like the committee is going to pick if
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: I can maybe see if James Madison just looks truly impressive.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right, they want to take this out of the running and they all right.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: We'll put them, you know, one right one spot ahead and we'll make James Madison.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: So we don't have to deal with this situation.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's a conspiracy theorist in me saying that the committee doesn't want to deal with this.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: But all indications are that the committee really values the Americans.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: So they would have that conference champion be the group of five pick.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: And frankly, you know, this is just something that the weird nature of college football, you know, no other sport operates this way.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: This is the thing we, things we do, especially for television partners that went that army Navy game after the regular season leading into the Heisman trophy ceremony.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: That is, that is TV programming more than anything else that Dick takes that.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing, while I hear what you're saying, the thought of the
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: If Navy wins the AAC, bumping them out for James Madison to save you a problem of a potential loss the next week, bumping out the United States Naval Academy would be a bad look.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, great bad look.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there would be reluctant to do that.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: No doubt about that.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Andrew, what gang of you watching closely this week and one of the most
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for watching.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to USC Oregon and I think that one is a huge one from that standpoint, you know, if Oregon wins, I think it comes much closer to solidifying the big 10 is three bids max.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: The only other way around that is if Michigan beats Ohio State, which has been known to happen.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: but I think this year would be even more surprising possibly than last year.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: So that to me is huge, and if USC wins, can they get all four of them in there?
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, Brian, what do you think of that game and are any other game you're watching?
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, definitely going to be watching Oregon USC given the implications there in the big ten given the implications really for Lincoln Riley I think that would be a massive win for for his tenure there and really the momentum they're in Los Angeles You know, I think it would be curious the following week if Oregon were to lose how far were they dropped because the community does seem like they are on Oregon they like the ducks and they like what they've seen we've seen that pretty consistently that they've been one of the higher ranked when lost teams that they really haven't budged they've been pretty
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: consistent in terms of being one of those scenes that you will be hosting a first round playoff game.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: So interesting.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also a cake taken an eye on the ACC.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like every week.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on sadness, but there are so many championship game clenching scenarios.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you got Georgia tech out there that would be very interesting, especially going into next week against Georgia in a semi home game there in Mercedes bin.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: So like,
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: Can they win out in the ACC kind of clinch their spot to the ACC championship game Virginia is obviously sitting there at home SMU has a chance I mean there's a lot of scenarios out there even Miami can still somehow back door their way into the ACC title game I think it's going to be difficult to get the results that they need for that, but I'm keeping an eye on the ACC and who knows I mean Notre Dame is also hosting Syracuse we know the orange or not been
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: quite as good since Steve and Jelly got hurt, but upsets do happen, crazy things have happened, so also keep an eye on Notre Dame, and then obviously the triangle with the chapobill potentially trying to get to a bowl game as well, he needs a winning at Stooke, so they used to see pretty interesting this weekend.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Marcus did the committee sort of make their own problem where the ACGME may not be ranked as high as Miami.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's, but that, again, that's one of the situations with leagues of 16, 17, 18 teams where teams don't play each other.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: And so you have a lot of teams that could have the same records or, you know, maybe teams that, again, that benefited
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: that have a better record and get into a championship game.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, this is one of those, that's a very modern power conference problem, I think, where the bigger the conference, the harder it is sometimes to come up with a hierarchy and then also you may get teams in your championship game that are not among the best teams.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, and I think it's going to be interesting too.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: What happens if, say, SMU wins the ACC, you know?
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, does that kind of call into question that Miami lost there?
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: In overtime, no less on the road.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that was the first time they actually left the state of Florida.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Was to go to Dallas there for the Edison U game.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, didn't play well.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I think if you go back to the initial conversations, the committee had around Miami and two.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they just wanted the consistency that that was the thing they kept talking about macrodes the former committee chair now said consistency This is a really good football team.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know that they talked about the offensive defensive lines all the skill position talents We know what they got in guys like Malachi Tony, but like the consistency was not there at least that first set of rankings.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, maybe you know
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: start to get a little better if they end the season and they just start blowing teams out maybe there is a little re-evaluation of where Miami is in that pecking order and maybe they do end up sneaking in there even with with the ACC champion being whoever might be.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: uh... brand wants to know about signetty and if and his jam you transfers having to match up against jm u lot would have to happen for that to get there first of all jam you would have to be in the bracket secondly they're going to be number twelve and indiana's not going to be number five now so the worst the the only way that can possibly happens like if indiana loses to produce and bumps down to four or five somehow there which i think is virtually impossible in my mind but i think
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: destined for a first round by one of those top four spots at this point.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to have enough good storylines, but I'll see that one coming through to you, Brian.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: I do not.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I think as more just a case of where teams are ranked and kind of the bracketing principles.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: And frankly, you know that the community has had opportunities to move Texas A&M ahead of Indiana.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the last couple of weeks.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: They have not.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's in my mind that says that the committee is pretty highly values.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: Indiana, they've talked about them previously and in some of the teleconferences afterwards.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: And they've said, hey, you want us a good team.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they've had a few close calls.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're against Iowa.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're certainly on on the ropes for a little bit there before really hitting the gas pedal against Oregon.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly had had their chances to lose their at Penn State, but the committee has
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: So far come through with the dominance that they've displayed in all those other games.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're they're buying into Indiana and I think really the the bigger question is, you know, do they flip behind Texas A&M if A&M wins out just for a three two three seed, maybe there's some changes there, but what wouldn't surprise me if they stick around it as the number two seed no matter what.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, that'd be the thing to watch.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: If A&M ends up 13 and OSCC champion, I would suspect they might move ahead of a 12 and 1 in the end of the loses to Ohio State.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: But you mentioned the Penn State thing, close to skate.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: Every single team, except to Ohio State, has had either a loss or a close to skate.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: So that's college football, probably about any year, but certainly in 2025.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that is our ranking show I think for this this week right we've gone to solid 30 minutes.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for all the questions.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: Good stuff from everybody be sure to check out Brian.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'll have a story later tonight on the rankings and we will have plenty of content play off related and otherwise college football at SI dot com.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks everybody.
