- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on you.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Huh. I sure, well, good morning everybody. You are listening
- 0:08Speaker 2: to the voice, come on, dig me now run and
- 0:10Speaker 2: only Steve Harvey got.
- 0:13Speaker 1: A radio show. Man o, man o man. I thank
- 0:18Speaker 1: God for it.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I thank God for all He's done for me, for
- 0:23Speaker 2: all the little things that I oftentimes failed to thank
- 0:27Speaker 2: him for that I take for granted for you know,
- 0:32Speaker 2: I was. I was talking the other day to a
- 0:34Speaker 2: buddy of mine. We had gotten to this conversation about
- 0:39Speaker 2: God and and and in the conversation we had narrowed
- 0:44Speaker 2: it down and we were talking about changing the way
- 0:47Speaker 2: we are as people. You know that everybody has to change.
- 0:52Speaker 2: You know, nothing stays the same. Everybody changes, and a
- 0:57Speaker 2: lot of these changes can be for the good, and
- 1:00Speaker 2: a lot of them are just They just come with time,
- 1:02Speaker 2: you know. Sometimes it's aging that changes us. But no
- 1:06Speaker 2: matter how old you get, you still have the ability
- 1:12Speaker 2: to improve as a person. You may not have the
- 1:15Speaker 2: foot speed you used to have. You may not be
- 1:19Speaker 2: as agile as you used to be. Your energy level
- 1:25Speaker 2: may not be what it used to be. Your desire
- 1:29Speaker 2: to do some of the things that you used to
- 1:31Speaker 2: do may be gone.
- 1:35Speaker 1: The thing that.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Doesn't have to change and will not change is you
- 1:43Speaker 2: you have the ability to continue to grow as a
- 1:48Speaker 2: person even when far the time and nature has taken
- 1:55Speaker 2: its course. We were talking about everybody can change and
- 2:02Speaker 2: everybody has the right to reinvent themselves as they get older,
- 2:12Speaker 2: and I equated it to jumping out of an airplane.
- 2:17Speaker 2: You know, there are some people man who get to
- 2:19Speaker 2: a certain point in their life and they and they
- 2:22Speaker 2: jump from the airplane. Is now almost a stunt of
- 2:28Speaker 2: some kind. It's almost like they lifed and got out
- 2:31Speaker 2: of control. You ever seen somebody jump out an airplane
- 2:34Speaker 2: and the parachute don't open, and they life start and
- 2:38Speaker 2: it seems like they start spinning and tumbling and they
- 2:40Speaker 2: can't get it together. And I've seen some mid air
- 2:43Speaker 2: rescues before. But then there are times when you know
- 2:47Speaker 2: when it hasn't worked. You know, you jump out that
- 2:50Speaker 2: airplane and at first it's fun. I've never Scott dived before,
- 2:55Speaker 2: but I would imagine when you first jump out of
- 2:58Speaker 2: an airplane that they people describe it as a sense
- 3:02Speaker 2: of being free, and it's exhilarating when you first jump
- 3:07Speaker 2: out the plane.
- 3:08Speaker 1: But if you pull that cord.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And nothing happens, it never happened to me, But I
- 3:14Speaker 2: can only imagine the panic that's got to set in
- 3:18Speaker 2: because no matter how fun it was a moment ago,
- 3:22Speaker 2: the flying over to one another, the holding hands in
- 3:26Speaker 2: the air, the breeze, the descent, the feeling of all
- 3:32Speaker 2: of a sudden, if you reach for that cord and
- 3:35Speaker 2: it's not there, you're suddenly spinning out of control. And
- 3:39Speaker 2: that's what happens in a lot of people's lives. When
- 3:43Speaker 2: you first start your life, you jump out the plane,
- 3:45Speaker 2: you free you young, you ain't got nothing.
- 3:47Speaker 1: To worry about it.
- 3:48Speaker 2: But then you get to a certain point in your
- 3:49Speaker 2: life when you go, okay, I'm gonna pull the cord now.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And pulling the cord is an important thing, because here's
- 3:59Speaker 2: the analogy my friend gave me. He said, man, use
- 4:05Speaker 2: your mind like a parachute. It works better when it's open. Well,
- 4:11Speaker 2: see what happens with a lot of people is they
- 4:15Speaker 2: in life, they jump out the plane and they having
- 4:20Speaker 2: this free fall, and it's fun for now. But they
- 4:24Speaker 2: get to a certain point in their life where they
- 4:26Speaker 2: got themself in a situation, or they've had a little
- 4:29Speaker 2: bit too much fun, a little bit too long, or
- 4:32Speaker 2: you know, they wasn't open to nothing, and they just
- 4:34Speaker 2: did what they wanted to do, or they started getting
- 4:37Speaker 2: involved with drugs or drinking or started running with the
- 4:40Speaker 2: wrong people.
- 4:41Speaker 1: See you jump out the plane.
- 4:42Speaker 2: At first you're free falling this fun but then after
- 4:45Speaker 2: a minute, man, something happens and they realize whoa and
- 4:48Speaker 2: they reach for the cord, and the chord don't work.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Well.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Now you're in the panic stricken situation. And my suggesting
- 4:54Speaker 2: that what I've learned from the analogy that my friends
- 4:57Speaker 2: shared with me is that we all the sooner we
- 5:00Speaker 2: can open our mind to God, the sooner we could
- 5:04Speaker 2: develop that relationship with him. It's like pulling the chord
- 5:09Speaker 2: and opening a parachute. If you open up your mind
- 5:13Speaker 2: to God, God is like a parachute.
- 5:17Speaker 1: You know. God can slow your descent.
- 5:21Speaker 2: God can turn this out of control freefall into a
- 5:26Speaker 2: nice ride for you. See that's what happened to me.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I was spinning out of control. I had gotten myself
- 5:36Speaker 2: into a point. Man, Why I wasn't doing real good? Oh,
- 5:40Speaker 2: y'all would look at me and think, man, Stevie, Man,
- 5:44Speaker 2: Now I wasn't doing real good. I had spun out
- 5:49Speaker 2: of control. I was in a free fall, and I
- 5:53Speaker 2: reached for the chord, but I was so far away
- 5:56Speaker 2: the chord didn't open.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Then I went to him and I pulled the chord.
- 6:00Speaker 2: When I went to God, I pulled the cord and open,
- 6:04Speaker 2: and he slowed my descent.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And this is what I just believe. I don't believe.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Now that I age as fast as I was aging,
- 6:12Speaker 2: because I got that parachute open. Now, you know, I
- 6:15Speaker 2: take better care of myself, eating, I work out more.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Now you know I'm not out of control. I have
- 6:21Speaker 2: a direction.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Now that win.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Then got up under that parachute a little bit, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 2: and now I'm going You know, I'm still getting older,
- 6:31Speaker 2: you know so, but the descent is so slow. Now
- 6:35Speaker 2: I'm able to enjoy the ride. I'm guiding my parachute over.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Sometimes we go over to to a vacation spot over here,
- 6:42Speaker 2: we float back over to it. But you know, I'm
- 6:45Speaker 2: still getting old. I'm still going down. But the descent,
- 6:50Speaker 2: because I've opened my mind to God, the parachute has
- 6:54Speaker 2: slowed my descent. And now I'm rocking back and forth.
- 6:59Speaker 2: But I ain't spending out control no more. You know,
- 7:01Speaker 2: I'm able to enjoy the view. Now you know, when
- 7:05Speaker 2: you jump out that plane and you pull that cord
- 7:08Speaker 2: and it don't work, you ain't looking at the view
- 7:10Speaker 2: no more. You're thinking of only one thing. How can
- 7:12Speaker 2: I slow this down? Well, now I'm able to enjoy
- 7:15Speaker 2: the view. I'm able to see all the beautiful things
- 7:18Speaker 2: on the horizon that God has for me. I'm able
- 7:22Speaker 2: to see all the beautiful things around me that He's
- 7:25Speaker 2: provided for me over these years because I've slowed my descent.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I use my mind like a parachute. It works better
- 7:33Speaker 2: when it's open. Open your mind to God and so
- 7:37Speaker 2: you can see the view, so you can slow the descent,
- 7:41Speaker 2: so you can stop the out of control free fall
- 7:44Speaker 2: that you've been on, that you can get your life
- 7:46Speaker 2: together and see everything out on the horizon that God
- 7:50Speaker 2: has for you. You know, it turned out to be
- 7:52Speaker 2: a very true statement. Your mind, if you use it
- 7:55Speaker 2: like a parachute, it works better when it's open, y'all.
