- 1:37Speaker 3: I caught it, hit him in the head.
- 1:39Speaker 5: He caught it in the glove for out number one.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Amazing, no balls, two strikes, two outs. Here's the wine

- 1:57Speaker 5: Clears out the inning. Here's flores pitch.
- 2:00Speaker 6: Jalon Squintson drives this one toward the alley of the

- 2:05Speaker 6: to tie the game is Ethan Mendoza floors around second
- 2:08Speaker 6: trouble for the center fielder to pick it up. Shalen
- 2:11Speaker 6: will make it the third. The game is tied to two.
- 2:15Speaker 6: Shalen floors triples into the alley. Three balls, two strikes,
- 2:19Speaker 6: two outs from the stretch, the payoff pitch from Max
- 2:23Speaker 6: Grubbs with the runners in motion.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Swinging a miss struck him out.
- 2:27Speaker 6: All of the big strike out from Max Grubbs and
- 2:30Speaker 6: Max and the log Hoorns are out of the top
- 2:32Speaker 6: of the seventh inning.
- 2:34Speaker 5: The down full of Kimball Schusler.
- 2:36Speaker 6: Here's the pitch swung on the ball hit well out
- 2:38Speaker 6: toward left.
- 2:39Speaker 5: You can say good night to.
- 2:40Speaker 6: This one off the back wall of the ballpen, driving
- 2:44Speaker 6: it out of the ballpark. Kimball's Shusler puts the log
- 2:47Speaker 6: Horns in front for the first time that I Texas
- 2:50Speaker 6: leads it three to two. Many fans rising to their
- 2:53Speaker 6: feet now looking for the strike out. No balls, two strikes,
- 2:57Speaker 6: two outs, the two good morning, afternoon of good night,
- 3:01Speaker 6: three pitch swinging strikeouts. Bob Terrell goes down swinging, and
- 3:06Speaker 6: Dylan Valantis sets the Tigers down one, two three. In
- 3:10Speaker 6: the eighth let's stretch from Valantis. Here's the go two
- 3:14Speaker 6: pitch swing and a miss Freylik strikes out, they'll completely
- 3:17Speaker 6: put out with a throwdown the first and the Texas
- 3:20Speaker 6: log Worns have taken game one of this weekend SEC
- 3:25Speaker 6: series from the eighth ranked Auburn Tigers. Final score Texas three,
- 3:30Speaker 6: Auburn two. And I'll tell you this, if all of
- 3:36Speaker 6: our weekends starts, all the ones that we have to
- 3:40Speaker 6: start on Thursday, start off that nicely. From a Texas perspective,
- 3:44Speaker 6: I'll take it. Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the program
- 3:48Speaker 6: here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zoners, we
- 3:51Speaker 6: come your way from UFCU dish fark Field yet again,
- 3:54Speaker 6: where the Texas long Worns will play the Auburn Tigers
- 3:57Speaker 6: game two of the three game weekend series here at
- 4:02Speaker 6: the ballpark.
- 4:02Speaker 5: It'd say six o'clock first pitch.
- 4:05Speaker 6: If you're holding tickets for that, and I know it
- 4:07Speaker 6: says on your ticket, it probably says, well, I say
- 4:10Speaker 6: the digital tickets, since everything's digital these days. But on
- 4:14Speaker 6: the schedule where it said seven o'clock, remember it was
- 4:17Speaker 6: moved forward by one hour to six o'clock tonight. And
- 4:20Speaker 6: then tomorrow's game instead of being two in the afternoon,
- 4:23Speaker 6: we'll have a first pitch.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Of high noon.
- 4:26Speaker 6: It'll be at noon tomorrow for the third pitch or
- 4:31Speaker 6: the third game, first pitch of the third and final
- 4:33Speaker 6: game of that series. My name is Craig White. Thanks
- 4:36Speaker 6: so much for joining us this afternoon. Of course, the
- 4:39Speaker 6: producer back in the studio did such an outstanding job
- 4:42Speaker 6: bringing in that little highlight montage is the one and
- 4:44Speaker 6: only Cameron D.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Parker.
- 4:46Speaker 6: The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as
- 4:50Speaker 6: in his favorite pro football team that he steadfastly refuses
- 4:54Speaker 6: to watch, at least for the time being. But here
- 4:58Speaker 6: it is a very warm afternoon, and Cam, this is
- 5:03Speaker 6: like being at this ballpark in June for a regional
- 5:07Speaker 6: hot and windy with the wind blowing out toward left.
- 5:12Speaker 6: You know, everybody was kind of surprised that last night's
- 5:14Speaker 6: came was not more high scoring and that more balls
- 5:17Speaker 6: did not leave the ballpark. Only Kimball Schusler out to
- 5:21Speaker 6: left where the wind was blowing. Now, Ike Irish blasted
- 5:24Speaker 6: one over deep right center into the tree beyond the
- 5:27Speaker 6: four h five portion indinge of that right centerfield wall.
- 5:32Speaker 6: But it is hot, it is breezy. Hey, you made
- 5:35Speaker 6: it out here last night for a little bit of baseball.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I did, Craigan, I'm right there with you.
- 5:40Speaker 8: I thought there was gonna be a couple more home
- 5:41Speaker 8: run blasts last night. Ike Irish's home run off the bat.
- 5:46Speaker 8: I thought, okay, maybe a pop up to left center.
- 5:49Speaker 8: But that thing got up in the wind and it
- 5:51Speaker 8: just took it over the right field fence. And but
- 5:54Speaker 8: fortunately for Texas Kimball Schusler, who went yard over the
- 5:57Speaker 8: left hand side of Dishfalnk Field. So we'll see the night.
- 6:00Speaker 8: But yeah, this weather, it does not feel like April eighteenth.
- 6:04Speaker 8: It feels more like June eighteenth. So I'm guessing the
- 6:07Speaker 8: bats will be a little bit more more popping today
- 6:11Speaker 8: and tomorrow, depending on the weather.
- 6:13Speaker 6: Well, and it's funny you mentioned that popping the bat
- 6:16Speaker 6: and depending on the weather.
- 6:17Speaker 5: And here's where I'm going with this.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Both the Oklahoma Missouri and Texas A and m Arkansas
- 6:24Speaker 6: series are having to play double headers today. They're expecting
- 6:28Speaker 6: some really inclement weather tomorrow in both the state of
- 6:32Speaker 6: Missouri and in the state of Arkansas. Of course, they
- 6:34Speaker 6: bordered one another, and so they're playing right now, game
- 6:40Speaker 6: one of a double header. Oklahoma's up ninety four at Missouri.
- 6:44Speaker 6: That's in the bottom of sixth Missouri. By the way,
- 6:46Speaker 6: it's owen sixteen in the SEC, but it's nine to
- 6:49Speaker 6: four Oklahoma. Now, for those who did not hear last night,
- 6:55Speaker 6: Texas A and M beat Arkansas seven to four. That,
- 6:59Speaker 6: coupled with the law Horn victory, now has Texas in
- 7:02Speaker 6: front by two full games in the SEC standings.
- 7:06Speaker 5: But I think a more I don't know notice, certainly.
- 7:13Speaker 6: To take note of is the fact that Texas A
- 7:15Speaker 6: and M now has won seven in a row. They
- 7:18Speaker 6: turned their season around. Of course, the Aggies will be
- 7:20Speaker 6: here next weekend, and so they're playing Game two, Game
- 7:24Speaker 6: two of the series, the first of a doubleheader, and
- 7:27Speaker 6: what happens. Jay s Laviolette just did a two run
- 7:29Speaker 6: homer in the top of the first, So the Aggies
- 7:31Speaker 6: are already out again on Arkansas. It is two to
- 7:35Speaker 6: nothing and they're still batting in the top of the
- 7:37Speaker 6: first inning.
- 7:37Speaker 5: On that A and M is seven and nine in
- 7:39Speaker 5: the league.
- 7:40Speaker 6: Remember they were one and nine, And they've actually won
- 7:44Speaker 6: eight straight games, six straight in SEC play, eight in
- 7:48Speaker 6: a row overall, and they're twenty two and fifteen, so
- 7:51Speaker 6: they're climbing back into respectability. If you finish five hundred
- 7:55Speaker 6: in the SEC and get beyond thirty wins, you stand
- 7:59Speaker 6: a decent shot of landing in a regional, which seemed
- 8:02Speaker 6: absolutely impossible as recent as two weeks ago. But for
- 8:07Speaker 6: A and M, winning that series in Knoxville against then
- 8:11Speaker 6: at the time number one right in Tennessee has proven
- 8:13Speaker 6: to be a real jump starter for them. So the
- 8:14Speaker 6: Aggies starting to play like the team that was the
- 8:18Speaker 6: preseason number one. The current number one team, of course,
- 8:21Speaker 6: is Texas, and they won here last night a thrilling ballgame,
- 8:25Speaker 6: a three to two. And you know, that's one of
- 8:27Speaker 6: those games, cam where if you're a neutral observer or
- 8:33Speaker 6: even if you're rooting for Auburn, this is where you
- 8:37Speaker 6: insert that phrase it was a great ballgame if you
- 8:40Speaker 6: didn't care who won the game.
- 8:42Speaker 5: You know, one of those deals.
- 8:43Speaker 6: And I think you could say it even from the
- 8:44Speaker 6: Texas perspective, although obviously long worn fans are delighted to
- 8:47Speaker 6: get the win down to nothing and turned it around.
- 8:50Speaker 6: And you right here to see that huge crowd over
- 8:53Speaker 6: seventy two hundred, and this whole series is sold out
- 8:55Speaker 6: of the weekend.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, fantastic environment.
- 8:57Speaker 8: The dish last night, I mean, what a great cred
- 9:00Speaker 8: out on deck for last night, and there was some
- 9:03Speaker 8: fantastic baseball being played. The Max Grubbs catch off the
- 9:08Speaker 8: hot shot right back to him. I could not believe
- 9:11Speaker 8: he caught that in the moment I thought for sure
- 9:13Speaker 8: he took something to the hedge and older and then
- 9:18Speaker 8: the way he kind of turned around and held the
- 9:20Speaker 8: glove up and then got down on one knee to
- 9:22Speaker 8: the umpart of the show.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, I caught that.
- 9:25Speaker 8: I mean, I want to play the entire Texas infield
- 9:28Speaker 8: and outfield turned around to the scoreboard to look at
- 9:30Speaker 8: the replay on that. It was a fantastic play and
- 9:34Speaker 8: for taxes, good to see Adrian Rodriguez pick up a
- 9:38Speaker 8: big hit during that game. Then Kimball's you know, big
- 9:41Speaker 8: home run. So fantastic comeback for Texas. There at was
- 9:45Speaker 8: thirteen now fourteen comebacks on.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Fourteen come from behind wins.
- 9:50Speaker 6: Yeah for this team and and.
- 9:54Speaker 5: They're having it. And we heard Jim Schlasnagel.
- 9:57Speaker 6: Talk about this after the game with Keith last night,
- 10:01Speaker 6: and that was that this particular incarnation of this Texas
- 10:07Speaker 6: team within the season itself different ball club than it
- 10:12Speaker 6: was early in the year when they were playing in
- 10:13Speaker 6: Arlington in Las Vegas and the start of SEC play
- 10:18Speaker 6: down in Startville.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Because of the.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Injuries, this team has to go about it differently in
- 10:23Speaker 6: terms of finding ways to win. Jim said something to
- 10:27Speaker 6: me a week ago about you know, just you know,
- 10:32Speaker 6: win any way, and you can say win anyway or
- 10:35Speaker 6: win any way three different words. And and so that's
- 10:42Speaker 6: that's kind of what they're having to deal with, is
- 10:45Speaker 6: try to find a way to win because they've got
- 10:48Speaker 6: three guys, one of which is completely out of the lineup,
- 10:52Speaker 6: and the other two guys are banged up but are playing.
- 10:55Speaker 5: Now.
- 10:56Speaker 6: They've had to go to Ethan Mendoza in the d
- 10:59Speaker 6: eighth spot because of that banged up shoulder, so he's
- 11:02Speaker 6: not ready to go into the field.
- 11:03Speaker 5: He'll be day to day.
- 11:04Speaker 6: And and and of course Ethan, you know, all he
- 11:08Speaker 6: does last night is a pick up two hits and
- 11:11Speaker 6: an RBI and a run scored. So Mendoza continues to
- 11:14Speaker 6: swing the bat really well, but he's not one hundred
- 11:16Speaker 6: percent because of the shoulder, and that's why he's having
- 11:18Speaker 6: a DH. So if you d H him, then you
- 11:22Speaker 6: look at the thing with Max Blue out of the lineup,
- 11:25Speaker 6: and then Adrian Rodriguez, who they did DH at the
- 11:29Speaker 6: start of the weekend series in Kentucky, but now the
- 11:32Speaker 6: necessity is to play him in the field so that
- 11:35Speaker 6: they can DH Mendoza. So he was in the left
- 11:38Speaker 6: field and so that means Jade to Plantier at second
- 11:40Speaker 6: bason while the Plantier is struggling at the plate. He
- 11:43Speaker 6: flashed his range last night and was able to make
- 11:45Speaker 6: some plays and that was good to see as well
- 11:47Speaker 6: help the ball club in whatever way you can.
- 11:50Speaker 5: So there's all of that now.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Having said all of that, and we're going to take
- 11:55Speaker 6: a break here in a few minutes and then you're
- 11:56Speaker 6: we're gonna have some football conversation coming up. But uh,
- 12:01Speaker 6: the other thing that you had in the highlight montage
- 12:03Speaker 6: was the walk off grand slam. That was that was
- 12:08Speaker 6: something else to see and because it was as as
- 12:12Speaker 6: you heard on the call by Andrew Haynes, Texas was
- 12:15Speaker 6: down three nothing one of the bottom of the six,
- 12:17Speaker 6: me Scott hits a home run, get back to back
- 12:19Speaker 6: homers to tie it at three, and then of course
- 12:23Speaker 6: hit the wall. They get the walk off grand slam
- 12:25Speaker 6: in the bottom of the seven with two outs to
- 12:28Speaker 6: win so h a great moment there for saftball. That's
- 12:31Speaker 6: what I meant when I said I if if an
- 12:33Speaker 6: early start to a weekend, in this case case a
- 12:36Speaker 6: holiday weekend, if an early start to the weekend includes
- 12:41Speaker 6: moments like that, you know, like Reese Atwood's walk off
- 12:46Speaker 6: grand Slam and the Longhorns rallying back to win, and
- 12:50Speaker 6: Shuster with that rocket of a home run he hit
- 12:53Speaker 6: out to left. If you're a Texas fan, you'll certainly
- 12:56Speaker 6: take that all right. Speaking of being Texas fan, if
- 12:58Speaker 6: you're a long Horn football fan, stay tuned because we're
- 13:01Speaker 6: gonna hear from three different Longhorns throughout the course of
- 13:05Speaker 6: the program this afternoon who've been involved in spring practice,
- 13:08Speaker 6: which has one more week to go. And in the
- 13:13Speaker 6: four o'clock hour, we'll hear from Anthony Hill, who is
- 13:17Speaker 6: of course preseason top rated linebacker, preseason All American. In
- 13:21Speaker 6: the three o'clock hour, we'll hear from Colin Simmons, the
- 13:24Speaker 6: returning sack leader and probably going to be a preseason
- 13:26Speaker 6: All American. But coming up here in just a few moments,
- 13:30Speaker 6: the everyman for this long Gorn football program, especially on
- 13:33Speaker 6: the defensive side, Michael taff Will we'll be up and
- 13:37Speaker 6: we'll hear him from spring football. Also, this being a Friday,
- 13:44Speaker 6: we do have inconceivable. Cam, you know what Friday with
- 13:47Speaker 6: inconceivable means for everybody.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Florida, Florida Man, Friday Baby.
- 13:51Speaker 5: Yep, yep.
- 13:52Speaker 6: And we've got a couple of doozies because it is,
- 13:55Speaker 6: after all, Florida Man.
- 13:56Speaker 5: So we've got that.
- 13:58Speaker 6: And uh and then and also we'll have you'll hear
- 14:01Speaker 6: from Jim Schlossnegel again as well prior to Game two
- 14:06Speaker 6: of this series. So all that and more coming up.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Stay with us. Got an action pack Friday. Glad to
- 14:10Speaker 6: have you with us here from the ballpark. I'm thirteen
- 14:13Speaker 6: under the zone. This is to fire me up Friday.
- 14:15Speaker 6: And that's why Cam is rolling back with Don't Fear
- 14:18Speaker 6: the Reaper, because it fires him up there. Even though
- 14:21Speaker 6: I don't know about you, Cameron, I can't hear that
- 14:24Speaker 6: song anymore without thinking of Saturday Night Live and Will
- 14:26Speaker 6: Ferrell and the Great Christopher walkin.
- 14:30Speaker 5: I gotta have more cow bell.
- 14:31Speaker 8: I'm right there with you, but she now like you
- 14:34Speaker 8: can hear the cow bells and that's all you can
- 14:36Speaker 8: think of.
- 14:36Speaker 5: But hey, it's still a rocking song. It is, it is,
- 14:39Speaker 5: It is a great deal.
- 14:41Speaker 6: Updating that game going on in Fayetteville, A and m
- 14:44Speaker 6: now up three nothing on Arkansas with the basis lotus
- 14:48Speaker 6: is they battened the top of the second. If the
- 14:50Speaker 6: Aggies win that game, they win the series, and then
- 14:52Speaker 6: there's one more game to be played. They're playing the doubleheader.
- 14:56Speaker 6: Two dodge the weather in Arki's always able to get
- 14:58Speaker 6: out of the inning. So it's three nothing and them
- 15:00Speaker 6: going to the bottom of third. Texas with a two
- 15:02Speaker 6: game lead on Arkansas in the SEC standings and Oklahoma's
- 15:06Speaker 6: up eleven to four in Missouri that's top of the
- 15:08Speaker 6: seventh as the Sooners are closing on winning that series,
- 15:12Speaker 6: and I'll try to win the doubleheader and sweep that
- 15:14Speaker 6: one as well. All right, we'll step away from baseball
- 15:17Speaker 6: for a moment and talk some Longhorn football. But before
- 15:23Speaker 6: we do that, I do want to mention, since we
- 15:25Speaker 6: were talking music, you mentioned, Cameron that you're a fan
- 15:29Speaker 6: of Laney Wilson. Correct, of course. Okay, all right, So
- 15:34Speaker 6: the reason why I say this is because you've got
- 15:36Speaker 6: a chance. Fans, do folks, listeners have an opportunity to
- 15:41Speaker 6: win a pair of tickets to see Laney Wilson at
- 15:43Speaker 6: Moody Center on September eighteenth.
- 15:47Speaker 5: And this is how you do it.
- 15:48Speaker 6: First of all, if you don't already, have the free
- 15:51Speaker 6: iHeartRadio app downloaded on your smartphone, easy to do.
- 15:54Speaker 5: It's free, and there's even.
- 15:56Speaker 6: More incentive to do it here, So you downloaded if
- 15:58Speaker 6: you haven't already, And once you have it downloaded on
- 16:02Speaker 6: your phone, you search AM thirteen under the zone and
- 16:05Speaker 6: there's two buttons on there. There's a little white arrow
- 16:08Speaker 6: button that's to listen to what's going on on the air.
- 16:10Speaker 6: But there's a red button with a little white microphone
- 16:13Speaker 6: in the middle of that red button. You tap that
- 16:15Speaker 6: red button and you leave us a voice message on
- 16:19Speaker 6: our talkback feature. So you do that, and you leave
- 16:24Speaker 6: us a message with the keyword that you heard on
- 16:27Speaker 6: the radio. So in other words, you say, hey, I
- 16:30Speaker 6: heard on the Craigway Show he said the keyword for
- 16:33Speaker 6: today to win the tickets for Landy Wilson is and
- 16:36Speaker 6: it's to put you into the drawing.
- 16:39Speaker 5: So but you got to do that to do that.
- 16:41Speaker 5: So today's keyword.
- 16:43Speaker 6: And this is why I asked the level of your
- 16:45Speaker 6: fandom cam because.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Today's keyword is nose dive. Nose dive? Now is that
- 16:57Speaker 5: the song? Is it a lyric?
- 16:58Speaker 7: Is it? Do you know?
- 17:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 17:01Speaker 8: Man, you know you always ask him what his keywords mean,
- 17:03Speaker 8: and I never have. I never really have.
- 17:06Speaker 9: You do.
- 17:06Speaker 6: Sometimes I'm totally clueless on a lot of them. That's
- 17:09Speaker 6: why I'm asking. I'm sure fans would not.
- 17:11Speaker 8: A quick Google shirt tells me that it's a song
- 17:14Speaker 8: that she has with post Malone, posting. Oh good, okay,
- 17:17Speaker 8: you're a big post Malone dan.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Yes, okay, all right, he's a big Cowboys fan. Got
- 17:21Speaker 6: that he has a he has a Raising Canes franchise
- 17:25Speaker 6: up there. Yes, that's right. So anyway, nose dive is
- 17:30Speaker 6: the keyword. So if you don't already have it downloaded
- 17:33Speaker 6: on your smartphone, download the brand new iHeartRadio app. It's free, uh,
- 17:39Speaker 6: new and improved and really cool. You search AM thirteen
- 17:42Speaker 6: under the zone. You tap the red button with a
- 17:44Speaker 6: little white microphone. Leave us a message with the keyword
- 17:46Speaker 6: you heard on this program.
- 17:48Speaker 5: Which is nose dive.
- 17:50Speaker 6: All right, Uh, let's let's dive right into hearing some
- 17:54Speaker 6: long worn football talk. The man who's the veteran, the senior,
- 17:57Speaker 6: the former walk on uh and became an All American
- 18:01Speaker 6: last year.
- 18:02Speaker 5: Long worn safety Michael Tapp.
- 18:05Speaker 10: What's it like about today?
- 18:08Speaker 11: It's kind of sad.
- 18:09Speaker 12: Uh, Like we always talk about how fun that was
- 18:13Speaker 12: playing together.
- 18:16Speaker 11: You know, when you're.
- 18:17Speaker 12: Three of the top five dbs ranked on some of
- 18:21Speaker 12: these you know sources in the country. You all play
- 18:25Speaker 12: on the same team, and you also are all best friends.
- 18:27Speaker 12: Like that's a once in a lifetime opportunity.
- 18:29Speaker 11: So it's sad. I text him a lot, like missing
- 18:32Speaker 11: you guys.
- 18:33Speaker 12: We also were always on the same page, so that
- 18:35Speaker 12: was that was a lot of fun. But I mean
- 18:39Speaker 12: it's cool to you know, branch out to different avenues
- 18:41Speaker 12: of friendships. You know, I never would have thought me
- 18:45Speaker 12: and Jolwanne, you know, coming into this, me and Jolene
- 18:47Speaker 12: would have been best friends. And now we're, you know,
- 18:49Speaker 12: like brothers, and just because the positions that we've been
- 18:52Speaker 12: put in, and so you know, it's so cool to
- 18:55Speaker 12: see like where God has put you in your life.
- 18:57Speaker 11: Because like two.
- 18:59Speaker 12: Years younger than me, I thought I was coming out
- 19:01Speaker 12: in four years, so I never really would have crossed
- 19:04Speaker 12: paths with Johnny. He came in as a linebacker, played quarterback,
- 19:07Speaker 12: in high school and now we're playing side by side
- 19:09Speaker 12: best friends. So it's sad that we're missing those guys,
- 19:13Speaker 12: but I'm glad and excited for the new new friendships.
- 19:18Speaker 13: Money seems pretty happy, good latch because you turn it
- 19:20Speaker 13: on when he's on the field.
- 19:23Speaker 12: Yeah, just go watch the tame he can he can
- 19:25Speaker 12: turn it on for sure. He's he's put on a
- 19:27Speaker 12: show this year.
- 19:27Speaker 14: I'm kind of picky back up the ship's question because
- 19:30Speaker 14: of the two of your best friends and one with
- 19:31Speaker 14: the team, did that force you can kind of quarter
- 19:33Speaker 14: as a.
- 19:33Speaker 10: Bigger branch out to different guys who you wouldn't finish
- 19:36Speaker 10: right to live by a wise.
- 19:39Speaker 11: Yeah, good question. I think you know.
- 19:42Speaker 12: I try to do a really good job of, you know,
- 19:44Speaker 12: the guy that maybe doesn't talk to a lot of
- 19:45Speaker 12: people in the locker room, go reach it out.
- 19:47Speaker 11: Hey, how are you doing? What school are you from?
- 19:50Speaker 10: Again?
- 19:50Speaker 11: Like how many are you the oldest, youngest?
- 19:52Speaker 12: I try to try to get those questions out there early,
- 19:54Speaker 12: just because you know, I know what it's like being
- 19:56Speaker 12: a freshman, and even more, I know it's like being
- 19:59Speaker 12: a freshman walk on where nobody even really knows who
- 20:01Speaker 12: you are, so you don't have the stars to, like,
- 20:04Speaker 12: you know, be on social media, coming in as a freshman,
- 20:07Speaker 12: so I know what that's like. I know what it's
- 20:09Speaker 12: like just being you know, just kind of going through things,
- 20:11Speaker 12: going through adversity, and not a lot of people know
- 20:13Speaker 12: about it because you don't talk about it, and but
- 20:15Speaker 12: maybe somebody notices. So I try to do that my best.
- 20:19Speaker 12: But yes, it has been a great step for me
- 20:22Speaker 12: to note. I think it's gotten me out of my
- 20:24Speaker 12: comfort zone. It's kind of the way to say it,
- 20:26Speaker 12: because there's times where I could just rely on Andrew
- 20:30Speaker 12: and Jodday, like they know what I'm talking about here,
- 20:33Speaker 12: but you know, I got I gotta get different ways
- 20:36Speaker 12: of communication and got to get out of my comfort
- 20:38Speaker 12: comfort zone in some aspects.
- 20:40Speaker 15: What are some of the fighting details that you're.
- 20:42Speaker 16: Working out of your game?
- 20:44Speaker 11: Is consistent tackling.
- 20:48Speaker 12: This might get a laugh at some of y'all, but
- 20:50Speaker 12: I tend to tackle high at times, so I'm trying
- 20:53Speaker 12: to work on lower pad level tackling, lower striking, you know,
- 20:57Speaker 12: the hips instead of maybe the helmets sometimes, So you know,
- 21:02Speaker 12: I consistent tackling for one to just mastering your crafts.
- 21:07Speaker 11: I always try to preach on get.
- 21:09Speaker 12: Really really good at what you're good at, and try
- 21:11Speaker 12: to stay really good at that, and then bring up
- 21:14Speaker 12: all the weaknesses so you don't really have any weaknesses
- 21:17Speaker 12: in your game. So not only am I try to
- 21:19Speaker 12: up my weaknesses, but like the things that I'm really
- 21:21Speaker 12: good at, I still harp on those all the time,
- 21:23Speaker 12: because you can't lose the things that you're good at.
- 21:26Speaker 7: Ever.
- 21:28Speaker 12: I believe I'm good at, you know, having a really
- 21:31Speaker 12: good sense of the game of football, zone coverage and
- 21:34Speaker 12: knowing where the quarterback is gonna go with the ball,
- 21:36Speaker 12: a getting a step in the ground before anybody else.
- 21:39Speaker 12: I believe I'm really good at communication and knowing what
- 21:42Speaker 12: the offense is trying to do. I believe when the
- 21:44Speaker 12: ball's in the air, I try to go get in.
- 21:46Speaker 12: I always believe it's mine.
- 21:48Speaker 9: Anfield, there's a good chance last season's both in off
- 21:51Speaker 9: How would you describe the roles that you play office uns?
- 21:55Speaker 12: Yeah, and is a phenomenal player, a phenomenal person, but
- 22:00Speaker 12: always brings a lot of juice. He's one of those
- 22:02Speaker 12: guys like I never knew anybody personally on that twenty
- 22:06Speaker 12: twenty one Georgia team, but it seemed like when they
- 22:08Speaker 12: stepped on the field, it was like, all right, dog status.
- 22:11Speaker 12: That's kind of how Anthony Hill is like when he
- 22:13Speaker 12: steps on the field. He can joke around, but when
- 22:15Speaker 12: he steps on the field, it's like, nobody's my friend here.
- 22:18Speaker 11: If you're across the ball from me, you're not my friend.
- 22:20Speaker 11: I don't care.
- 22:21Speaker 12: If you're my best friend in the locker room, you're
- 22:23Speaker 12: not my friend. So he's got that juice to that dog.
- 22:25Speaker 10: Too, the energy and like juice that a lot of
- 22:28Speaker 10: these young guys are bringing.
- 22:29Speaker 8: And Colin I know he's not the youngest anymore, but
- 22:31Speaker 8: like that's what everyone's been talking about.
- 22:33Speaker 10: How much Juic said was bring me.
- 22:34Speaker 8: How does the coaching staff kind of try to bring
- 22:36Speaker 8: that out of everybody and play with that energy and
- 22:39Speaker 8: that juice.
- 22:40Speaker 12: Yeah, well, the I think it's really cool learning from
- 22:44Speaker 12: different coaching staffs, learning from different coaches individually. They've kind
- 22:49Speaker 12: of hit on this part of it where it's like,
- 22:52Speaker 12: if you have a young team, yes, it's gonna be
- 22:54Speaker 12: really difficult to get the playbook down early in spring,
- 22:57Speaker 12: to get the culture set early. It's to get the
- 23:00Speaker 12: little minute details early in the spring.
- 23:03Speaker 11: But the one thing you can't lose. Is everybody's got juice.
- 23:05Speaker 12: Everybody's hyper, everybody's so excited to be at the University
- 23:09Speaker 12: of Texas playing the game that they love.
- 23:11Speaker 11: So collect all that stuff that's really.
- 23:13Speaker 12: Positive that young guys bring and then add the veteran
- 23:17Speaker 12: ship that you have, put it together and you got
- 23:19Speaker 12: you got a juice up squad. So trying to bring
- 23:21Speaker 12: the benefits out of everybody.
- 23:23Speaker 10: Michael, what's the first month really been like?
- 23:25Speaker 11: Like Dwayne Tina, Yeah, it's been awesome.
- 23:29Speaker 17: Uh.
- 23:29Speaker 11: He demands excellen.
- 23:30Speaker 16: Side of you.
- 23:30Speaker 11: He uh.
- 23:32Speaker 12: He doesn't do a lot of patting on your back,
- 23:34Speaker 12: which I love and I appreciate because you know, I've
- 23:37Speaker 12: been in that spot all my life where it's like look.
- 23:40Speaker 11: Down, look down, look down, and then.
- 23:41Speaker 12: I have a really good season and it's all American
- 23:43Speaker 12: sadd's you're the guy, You're the guy, You're the guy. Well, now,
- 23:47Speaker 12: Dwayne Keena coach Akina comes in. He's like, no, your
- 23:51Speaker 12: standard's up here. You're here, your standards all the way
- 23:53Speaker 12: up here. If you wanna, if you want to act
- 23:54Speaker 12: like you're good, I've coached Michael Hough. The standard has
- 23:58Speaker 12: been upped and up and up. And the other thing
- 24:02Speaker 12: is we have really, really good gas. I want to
- 24:04Speaker 12: point those out, you know, Malik, Malik and Pat. You
- 24:09Speaker 12: can look them up on on Safari. Those guys have
- 24:11Speaker 12: been working their tails off because what they do is
- 24:15Speaker 12: nobody will ever notice, but they do a lot for
- 24:18Speaker 12: this team. They do a lot for this defensive back room,
- 24:20Speaker 12: and it's so cool. They're up here till nine pm
- 24:23Speaker 12: on February and in time where we're not even playing, and.
- 24:27Speaker 11: So they've taught me a whole lot.
- 24:30Speaker 12: I love, you know, bsing with them and hanging out
- 24:33Speaker 12: with them and talking ball with them because they're they're
- 24:37Speaker 12: every every person on this in this room has a job,
- 24:41Speaker 12: and no jobs too small, new jobs too big. So
- 24:44Speaker 12: obviously coach Akina is one of the best coaches I've
- 24:47Speaker 12: been around, and he's taught me so much already.
- 24:49Speaker 11: But he elevates everybody's game.
- 24:52Speaker 12: He elevates everybody in the room, not if you're just
- 24:54Speaker 12: a player, but also staff, and Milik and and Pat
- 24:57Speaker 12: have been doing a heck of a job.
- 24:58Speaker 11: I want to shout those guys out.
- 25:00Speaker 10: Someone moved to corner.
- 25:03Speaker 18: What have you seen from him out there?
- 25:05Speaker 14: And I guess Wardel Max was playing a lot at
- 25:08Speaker 14: nicol What have you.
- 25:09Speaker 18: Seen from him?
- 25:11Speaker 12: Yeah, Gilbert came in as a corner, so I feel
- 25:14Speaker 12: like it's pretty natural for him. That switched the star
- 25:18Speaker 12: was definitely natural for him freshman sophomore year, and now
- 25:22Speaker 12: that he's back at corner, playing a little bit of corner.
- 25:25Speaker 12: You know, the the starting five in set with positions,
- 25:29Speaker 12: with strings, nothing set right now. There there gonna be
- 25:33Speaker 12: a time where coach Akina says, you know, sixteen, you're
- 25:36Speaker 12: one of the best five safeties and we have four
- 25:38Speaker 12: of the best five safeties. I mean best five DB's
- 25:41Speaker 12: are safety, so you gotta go play corner. How Coach
- 25:44Speaker 12: a Kina does it is the best five dbs. So
- 25:48Speaker 12: if you're in that best five dB category, then you'll
- 25:51Speaker 12: trut out with the ones. So there's no set in stone.
- 25:53Speaker 12: Who's the starters, who's the ones, who's the two's, who's corner,
- 25:57Speaker 12: who's nickel, who's safety? You gotta be the best five
- 26:00Speaker 12: dbs and that that helps you grow your game to
- 26:02Speaker 12: be ersatal.
- 26:04Speaker 3: He's been the.
- 26:04Speaker 14: Biggest hurdle without Dana.
- 26:10Speaker 12: Man, you are making me give too much credits to
- 26:12Speaker 12: Jody Andrew. Just the comfortability that I had with them,
- 26:17Speaker 12: and they were guys that could lead, that can communicate,
- 26:21Speaker 12: but also you cut on the tape, they're making plays
- 26:24Speaker 12: and so and every defense you need guys like aunt Hill,
- 26:27Speaker 12: like Colin Simmons that are just making plays. And that's
- 26:30Speaker 12: what Jody Andrew were. So you know, having to rely
- 26:33Speaker 12: on other guys to really step in and make those
- 26:35Speaker 12: plays and see who can make those plays.
- 26:37Speaker 19: You have an appreciation and a knowledge of Texas football
- 26:41Speaker 19: history in his recent year. So like you hear that
- 26:43Speaker 19: Akina is coming on board, You're probably the super jacked,
- 26:46Speaker 19: but the other guys in the room, he's probably just
- 26:48Speaker 19: another coach. Did he have to like sell himself like, hey,
- 26:52Speaker 19: you know, here's who I am, here are my credentials
- 26:55Speaker 19: or how did that go first first re meeting?
- 26:59Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 27:00Speaker 12: Coach a kinda has always preached trust is earned. So
- 27:05Speaker 12: no matter what how many draft picks I've had, no
- 27:07Speaker 12: matter forty people off put in the league since I've
- 27:10Speaker 12: been coaching, I got to earn your trust.
- 27:12Speaker 11: You got to earn my trust. And so it goes
- 27:15Speaker 11: both ways.
- 27:16Speaker 12: And so he's always trying to you know, if I'm
- 27:19Speaker 12: gonna rip somebody, I'm also gonna love him just as
- 27:21Speaker 12: much because I need that connection with them in order
- 27:24Speaker 12: to rip them, so they know where I'm coming from.
- 27:26Speaker 12: And so he didn't come in talking about, you know,
- 27:29Speaker 12: how many draft picks he's had, how many national championships
- 27:32Speaker 12: he's won, how many you know, top five defenses he's coached.
- 27:35Speaker 12: He came in, I want to gan y'ell's trust, so
- 27:38Speaker 12: then y'all can believe me when I say, Hey, I
- 27:40Speaker 12: coach Michael Huff, I coach Kwandre Diggs and so forth
- 27:44Speaker 12: and so on.
- 27:45Speaker 15: Michael last year, about this time, Jade this year, you
- 27:48Speaker 15: talked about his competitive spirit and he said he's spoken
- 27:51Speaker 15: to Quinn. He says, my job, my old goal is
- 27:54Speaker 15: to get an interception on your friends.
- 27:56Speaker 12: Have you had that same conversation with Art, Yeah, I
- 27:59Speaker 12: mean talking a lot of trash, So definitely share words
- 28:03Speaker 12: about I'm gonna pick you off. He's doing a heck
- 28:07Speaker 12: of a job in spring right now. Arch freshman year
- 28:09Speaker 12: to Arch now is nine and day difference. He's playing
- 28:13Speaker 12: so smart, so mature, so calm, and then also, oh,
- 28:17Speaker 12: by the way, he's also got a really good arm.
- 28:19Speaker 12: He can throw, and he's you know who he is,
- 28:21Speaker 12: and he's a ballplayer. So he's doing a really good,
- 28:24Speaker 12: really good job. We talk a lot of trash, but
- 28:27Speaker 12: it's it's so cool. I saw what he said to
- 28:30Speaker 12: y'all about you know, this is where I want to
- 28:32Speaker 12: be and so in the in the day and age
- 28:34Speaker 12: of college football right now, that is that is so cool.
- 28:37Speaker 12: The cool thing about here is everything going on colorable.
- 28:41Speaker 12: Everybody's freaking out. What's happening with culturable. We're so naive
- 28:45Speaker 12: to that. Like our locker room is so naive to that.
- 28:47Speaker 12: Nobody talks about financials. Nobody talks about really the transfer
- 28:51Speaker 12: portal and who's gonna leave, who's not gonna leave, who
- 28:54Speaker 12: are we gonna bring in? We talk about like like
- 28:58Speaker 12: if Kandrey Diggs came into the locker room, he'd be like, yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 12: it's pretty much the same as when I when I played,
- 29:02Speaker 12: and there's no transfer portal, there's no n I L
- 29:04Speaker 12: because we're just so you know, we have a great culture,
- 29:07Speaker 12: We're bonded with one another, we have strong in our faith,
- 29:11Speaker 12: and we just love the game of football. We love
- 29:12Speaker 12: the University of Texas. So that's the coolest thing. That's
- 29:15Speaker 12: something to look forward to if you're a Longhorn fan
- 29:18Speaker 12: is like, yes, college football is crazy right now, but
- 29:21Speaker 12: I don't see a lot of that going on in
- 29:22Speaker 12: out of the locker room, which is really cool in the dB,
- 29:26Speaker 12: you know, across.
- 29:27Speaker 18: The whole DV room, who stood out to you? Shown
- 29:32Speaker 18: you little.
- 29:33Speaker 12: Sucking Grayson Littleton plays with his hair on fire. He's
- 29:39Speaker 12: he's a really good player. He's gonna be a stud
- 29:40Speaker 12: for us, whether that's this year, whether that's a couple
- 29:44Speaker 12: of years down the road, He's gonna be a really
- 29:45Speaker 12: good player. Uh knows the game, plays physical, plays with
- 29:48Speaker 12: a you know, a great amount of effort. And the
- 29:52Speaker 12: other player that's been here a lot but keeps showing
- 29:54Speaker 12: up every spring fall camp is Warren Robson playing really
- 29:59Speaker 12: really good man coverage, showing great deal maturity and his
- 30:04Speaker 12: own coverage and disguising his pictures.
- 30:06Speaker 11: So he's he's a guy to look out.
- 30:08Speaker 17: For the left head of the offense. Because the offense
- 30:12Speaker 17: lost four line starters and flave receivers and died.
- 30:16Speaker 12: Yeah, you would think so on paper, but they also
- 30:19Speaker 12: got a pretty good guy by the name of Arch
- 30:21Speaker 12: Manning if you've ever heard of him. So he yeah,
- 30:25Speaker 12: he makes some plays on his own but I mean,
- 30:29Speaker 12: you know, the game of football is the greatest game
- 30:32Speaker 12: on this earth because it's a team It's one of
- 30:34Speaker 12: the only team sports that you really need everybody to go.
- 30:39Speaker 12: You need your left tackle for for Arch to throw
- 30:42Speaker 12: a great pass, you need the receiver run the right route,
- 30:44Speaker 12: neither running back to block or you know, get out
- 30:47Speaker 12: whenever he needs to get out to throw the check down.
- 30:49Speaker 12: And so they've they've won their days. We won our days.
- 30:52Speaker 12: We like to make you competitive. You know, I'm a
- 30:54Speaker 12: defensive guy, so I would say that we won more
- 30:56Speaker 12: days than lost. But you know, if Arch got up here,
- 30:59Speaker 12: he'd probably say that he won more days in loss.
- 31:01Speaker 11: So it's kind of going back and forth. It's fun.
- 31:03Speaker 14: What's it been like to just hear Archie voice louder
- 31:06Speaker 14: and being more of that leader in the locker room.
- 31:08Speaker 10: Compared to your time.
- 31:10Speaker 11: Yeah, I think Arch is a natural born leader.
- 31:13Speaker 12: You could tell freshman sophomore year when he really wanted
- 31:16Speaker 12: to lead, but he knew that his time was gonna come,
- 31:20Speaker 12: and he knew that.
- 31:21Speaker 11: You know, QB one is the one that has.
- 31:23Speaker 12: The voice, so it was cool to see him be
- 31:25Speaker 12: QB two and you know, walk up to somebody and
- 31:28Speaker 12: be like, Hey, this is what you want to do,
- 31:29Speaker 12: This is what you need to do, this is what
- 31:30Speaker 12: you know I do if I was in your position,
- 31:33Speaker 12: and so on and so forth. So it's really cool
- 31:35Speaker 12: to see him go from you know, kind of a
- 31:37Speaker 12: silent leader but still being a leader to now the
- 31:39Speaker 12: guy you know, running up to everybody, you know, motivating them,
- 31:43Speaker 12: you know, pumping them up, but then also talking trash
- 31:45Speaker 12: to other people to get them going, get their gears started.
- 31:48Speaker 11: So it's been so cool to see that transition, for sure.
- 31:51Speaker 6: Ah, in wisdom of Michael Taff the long horns of
- 31:56Speaker 6: veteran safety. All right, let me take he's gonna come
- 31:58Speaker 6: out to get us back on track here or we're gonna.
- 32:02Speaker 6: I don't want to rush through Inconceivable because it's really
- 32:06Speaker 6: good obviously on Friday, meaning Florida man, and there's a
- 32:09Speaker 6: couple of items that we just can't short change. So
- 32:15Speaker 6: what we're gonna do is, I'm gonna move. We will
- 32:19Speaker 6: move Inconceivable back by one hour. It'll be right about
- 32:23Speaker 6: this time, in the three o'clock hour. But we've got
- 32:27Speaker 6: something good for you coming. I just went downstairs and
- 32:29Speaker 6: visited with Jim Slosnakle, the Long Horns head coach, and
- 32:31Speaker 6: we're gonna get his thoughts on tonight's second game of
- 32:35Speaker 6: this series between Texas and Auburn. That's up next when
- 32:39Speaker 6: we continue on thirteen under the Zone. I was down
- 32:41Speaker 6: on the field and had an opportunity to visit with
- 32:44Speaker 6: Long Horns head coach Jim Slasnangle. I think you were
- 32:46Speaker 6: probably as surprised as a lot of people have thought
- 32:48Speaker 6: looking at that wind blowing out and it was like
- 32:50Speaker 6: that last night, that a three to two ball game.
- 32:52Speaker 6: But it was a well played baseball game, no matter
- 32:54Speaker 6: who you were rooting for.
- 32:55Speaker 20: Yeah, I thought it was just an incredibly well pitched game.
- 32:58Speaker 21: You know, we had to two out hits, and I
- 33:01Speaker 21: think Shooster's homer was with one out, maybe two outs. Uh,
- 33:05Speaker 21: And of course they had the big two run homer.
- 33:07Speaker 21: But I thought that Dutton did a great job of
- 33:09Speaker 21: keeping the ball on the ground against us and Max
- 33:13Speaker 21: obviously when he had to come in and he's that's
- 33:15Speaker 21: what he does is to sink the ball. So uh yeah, uh,
- 33:20Speaker 21: but I imagine's probably gonna flip around the day.
- 33:23Speaker 17: Uh.
- 33:23Speaker 21: That's how usually baseball goes. But we'll see.
- 33:27Speaker 6: One thing that Kimball said in the post came with
- 33:29Speaker 6: Keith I found pretty interesting, and I know coaches probably take.
- 33:32Speaker 5: Some pride of this.
- 33:33Speaker 6: He talked about the scouting reports and looking and he said,
- 33:37Speaker 6: and I knew if he got two strikes on me,
- 33:39Speaker 6: he's going to try to try to do that. That
- 33:42Speaker 6: slider or that breaking bottle made me think of the
- 33:44Speaker 6: whole thing about Ecker's leady Kirk Gibson in the back,
- 33:46Speaker 6: the back door slider on three two, that.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Kind of thing. But I mean, that doesn't coach is heartgood?
- 33:50Speaker 6: Isn't it though that the guys remember, recall the scouting
- 33:55Speaker 6: reporter and then use it to their advantage.
- 33:57Speaker 20: Yeah, I think so.
- 33:57Speaker 21: I mean, I think you know, he can't be a
- 33:59Speaker 21: slave to it, because we also had this kind of
- 34:01Speaker 21: report that Dunton was mostly four seam fastball and likes
- 34:04Speaker 21: to ride his fastball, and then he comes into the
- 34:06Speaker 21: game and he's sinking his fastball. So, uh, you go
- 34:09Speaker 21: into it with a plan, then you have to adjust
- 34:10Speaker 21: as it goes. But yeah, I think that may have
- 34:14Speaker 21: been the first breaking ball the guy through of his appearance, Myers,
- 34:19Speaker 21: because everything else he had the good fastball going so yeah, thankful.
- 34:23Speaker 20: You know, it's not just that he was on the
- 34:25Speaker 20: breaking ball. He was a bad breaking ball.
- 34:26Speaker 21: You know, if you I'm sure, if you know, nobody
- 34:28Speaker 21: hits the good ones, you hope to be able to
- 34:30Speaker 21: hit the mistakes.
- 34:30Speaker 6: I always asked you about your pitching playing off of this.
- 34:33Speaker 6: Of course, Landi's only had the first twenty pitches. I know,
- 34:37Speaker 6: if you needed him to get the win, to win
- 34:39Speaker 6: the series, you'd go for it. You'd like to avoid him.
- 34:41Speaker 6: But it all starts with Luke.
- 34:42Speaker 5: And I don't.
- 34:43Speaker 20: Yeah, it does. He's got to. You know, there's such
- 34:46Speaker 20: a talent lineup.
- 34:48Speaker 21: The fact that I told Keith last night, the fact
- 34:50Speaker 21: that there are too many college programs or just have
- 34:53Speaker 21: enough player good enough players where you can stack all
- 34:55Speaker 21: your lefties right in a row, and that just tells
- 34:57Speaker 21: you that they handle the.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Left handed pitching. You know.
- 35:00Speaker 21: Errol hits the ball all over the field, Irish hits
- 35:02Speaker 21: the ball all over the field, and McMurray hits it over.
- 35:05Speaker 5: All the fields.
- 35:06Speaker 21: But yeah, we're gonna I mean, Luke's got to do
- 35:10Speaker 21: a good job of throwing strikes and limiting the damage
- 35:12Speaker 21: with the wind blowing out.
- 35:13Speaker 6: Yeah, it's as simple as that. Because the wind is
- 35:15Speaker 6: blowing out. It's eighty nine degrees right now here the ballpark,
- 35:20Speaker 6: so it's hot and breezy, and that wind is blowing
- 35:22Speaker 6: out of the south like it normally does, so it
- 35:26Speaker 6: is really going to help fly balls hit out to left.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Now.
- 35:31Speaker 6: Shustler's home run last night didn't need any help. It
- 35:33Speaker 6: was a missile and it got out. But anything that's
- 35:36Speaker 6: just sent in the air, and there were a couple
- 35:37Speaker 6: that were put into the air by Auburn that drifted
- 35:40Speaker 6: toward the warning track that were definitely helped by the breeze.
- 35:44Speaker 6: Anything that's hit like that last that was hit like
- 35:46Speaker 6: it was last night, hit tonight, it'll probably leave the ballpark,
- 35:50Speaker 6: so we could have a high scoring game on our hands.
- 35:52Speaker 7: We'll see.
- 35:53Speaker 6: Luke Harrison's task will be to keep the ball down
- 35:56Speaker 6: and try to go from there. All right, we'll be
- 35:57Speaker 6: back to wrap up our number one from here at
- 36:00Speaker 6: UFCU dish falk Field. I'm thirteen out of the hour
- 36:02Speaker 6: number two of the program. Here, I'm thirteen under the zone.
- 36:05Speaker 6: Craig Way with you from UFCU dishwauk Field, Texas.
- 36:10Speaker 5: Longhorns going through some early work on the field.
- 36:14Speaker 6: And then of course there's Game two of the series
- 36:15Speaker 6: tonight against the Auburn Tigers. It is a six o'clock
- 36:19Speaker 6: first pitch, I know, on all the schedules at seven,
- 36:23Speaker 6: but they moved it, made the adjustments to the schedule
- 36:27Speaker 6: this week because of Auburn's travel situation, and so as
- 36:33Speaker 6: a result of that, Tonight's game will start at six,
- 36:36Speaker 6: one hour earlier, and you can hear it on one
- 36:39Speaker 6: oh three point one FM here on the zone. Tonight
- 36:42Speaker 6: it will be the Round Rock Express. Are they still
- 36:45Speaker 6: in Reno, Yeah, yeah, all right, so yeah, playing the
- 36:50Speaker 6: Reno Aces and obviously Ryland Cobra will have a call
- 36:56Speaker 6: of that for you and that comes your way at
- 37:01Speaker 6: seven fifty tonight. And then Tomorrow's game, which was originally
- 37:06Speaker 6: scheduled for two in the afternoon, has been moved forward
- 37:09Speaker 6: to noon again to accommodate the travel schedule for Auburn.
- 37:15Speaker 5: So as a result of the game will be at noon.
- 37:18Speaker 5: You'll be able to.
- 37:19Speaker 6: Hear it right here on this signal on this station
- 37:21Speaker 6: on AM thirteen hundred the zone, and you'll be able
- 37:25Speaker 6: to hear that beginning at eleven forty five tomorrow morning,
- 37:29Speaker 6: with the first pitch at noon. By the way, and
- 37:31Speaker 6: I mentioned this before, we do have a ballpark frequency
- 37:33Speaker 6: here inside of UFCU, just fartfield. If you want to
- 37:36Speaker 6: bring your headset radio out or your buds with your
- 37:41Speaker 6: portable radio, you can do that and tune it to
- 37:44Speaker 6: eighty seven point seven inside the ballpark eighty seven. So
- 37:48Speaker 6: hit somebody on Twitter last night address me and say, hey,
- 37:52Speaker 6: I can hear you, but it's not real clear on
- 37:54Speaker 6: eighty seven to five, and TYE sounds kind of garble,
- 38:00Speaker 6: I replied, And I said, well, it's eighty seven seven,
- 38:04Speaker 6: not eighty seven to five, and it's key, not tie
- 38:07Speaker 6: in the boot.
- 38:08Speaker 5: But appreciate you listening. So anyway, now that'll be the case.
- 38:13Speaker 6: And so again six o'clock this evening, and then to
- 38:17Speaker 6: tomorrow at noon. Texas Softball which had that dramatic walkoff
- 38:22Speaker 6: grand slam from Reesapwood to bt LSU yesterday seven to three.
- 38:26Speaker 6: They were down three to nothing one to the bottom
- 38:28Speaker 6: of six, and they got back to back home runs,
- 38:30Speaker 6: one of those from me a Scott, a two run
- 38:32Speaker 6: shot and a follow up homer, and then with a
- 38:35Speaker 6: tie three to three in the bottom of the seventh
- 38:37Speaker 6: Atwood with a walkoff Grand Slam and Texas with a win.
- 38:42Speaker 6: So they are now forty and five and they'll play
- 38:45Speaker 6: Game two of that series, and you can hear that.
- 38:49Speaker 6: You can connect to it through the iHeartRadio app, and
- 38:51Speaker 6: you can hear it online at Texas Long Orange dot
- 38:54Speaker 6: com and on the Texas Long Orange app as well.
- 38:57Speaker 6: Game two of that series four team pregame start time.
- 39:01Speaker 6: Four thirty is the first pitch for Game two, as
- 39:06Speaker 6: it was yesterday, and Andrew Haynes will be on the
- 39:08Speaker 6: call on that.
- 39:09Speaker 5: And then tomorrow, it's.
- 39:12Speaker 6: A really busy time here, uh in this you know,
- 39:16Speaker 6: in this very tight vicinity, meaning both baseball and softball,
- 39:26Speaker 6: because softball's game time tomorrow will be at eleven am.
- 39:33Speaker 6: And prior to that, they're gonna have what they call
- 39:37Speaker 6: the tailgate at the Comal Street block party. So they've
- 39:44Speaker 6: got a block party going on tomorrow. They'll have photo
- 39:48Speaker 6: ops with Bevo. They'll be there, Smoky the Cannon'll be
- 39:51Speaker 6: there as well as Texas Cowboys all rollout smoking and
- 39:56Speaker 6: that will run from nine five to ten forty five
- 39:59Speaker 6: because the game starts at eleven, so the.
- 40:05Speaker 5: For those photo wops.
- 40:06Speaker 6: Now, the block party will go till noon from nine
- 40:08Speaker 6: am to noon.
- 40:09Speaker 5: And you know it's.
- 40:10Speaker 6: Right in between the Texas Tennis Center and UFCU Dish
- 40:15Speaker 6: falk Field and also Macomb's Field.
- 40:20Speaker 5: It's in that grassy area out there.
- 40:21Speaker 6: A lot of folks set up, so that's where the
- 40:24Speaker 6: block party will take place Tomorrow. They'll be tailgate games
- 40:28Speaker 6: Texas branded inflatables for kids age twelve and under. The
- 40:31Speaker 6: food trucks will be there, and Cameron's favorite, Big Bertha,
- 40:36Speaker 6: the draft beer truck featuring ten or more beers on
- 40:41Speaker 6: tap will be there. You again, you've you've partaken from
- 40:45Speaker 6: Big Bertha before, right, Actually.
- 40:47Speaker 8: I don't think I have some things I have because
- 40:49Speaker 8: you know, usually I work every home game, so I
- 40:51Speaker 8: don't know if I you know, in between working and
- 40:54Speaker 8: spotting for you have a couple of beers. You know,
- 40:56Speaker 8: I don't want to accidentally, you know, miss spot to
- 41:00Speaker 8: do that. Sober so after one or two who knows. Okay,
- 41:05Speaker 8: there's no football game this Saturday, so you know why not?
- 41:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I was thinking that one of the you know,
- 41:12Speaker 6: one or two of those home games where you weren't
- 41:15Speaker 6: the spot or either for me or for because you're
- 41:18Speaker 6: in high demand Westwood One, you know, they they want
- 41:22Speaker 6: somebody who can point with an accurate finger, and you've
- 41:26Speaker 6: given the finger to many people, so.
- 41:29Speaker 5: So you can.
- 41:29Speaker 6: You can definitely point with the index finger as well
- 41:32Speaker 6: as with the middle finger.
- 41:33Speaker 5: But anyway, I figured on.
- 41:35Speaker 6: One or two of those deals where you didn't have
- 41:39Speaker 6: a duty after after our long worn game day programming,
- 41:46Speaker 6: that you might, you know, quaff a beverage or two.
- 41:50Speaker 6: I thought you might head over for a malted beverage
- 41:54Speaker 6: from Big Beer.
- 41:55Speaker 7: Th M.
- 41:55Speaker 6: That's that's what I was thinking about. I know, when
- 41:57Speaker 6: when you're working, you're on the clock, and you're not
- 41:59Speaker 6: going to do that. I was just thinking that maybe
- 42:01Speaker 6: on some of those when you when you you know,
- 42:03Speaker 6: some of those home games where you didn't have a
- 42:06Speaker 6: post pregame assignment in other words, to spot or do
- 42:10Speaker 6: stats or whatever for one of the broadcasts that would
- 42:14Speaker 6: m andate from DKR, that maybe you might just kind
- 42:17Speaker 6: of stroll over there and do them.
- 42:18Speaker 11: You know.
- 42:18Speaker 8: I think I went to two games last year, like
- 42:21Speaker 8: just just as a fan. Regular fan went with your dad,
- 42:24Speaker 8: didn't you?
- 42:24Speaker 3: I went.
- 42:25Speaker 8: That was the Clemson college football playoff game. But I
- 42:27Speaker 8: had the flu. I didn't know I had the flu,
- 42:29Speaker 8: but I felt awful, and so I don't think I
- 42:32Speaker 8: had anything because I just felt disgusting. I ended up
- 42:34Speaker 8: leaving at halftime, waking up seeing that Clemson is only
- 42:38Speaker 8: down by a touchdown in the second half. In the
- 42:39Speaker 8: Kentucky game, I think I went with my cards. Of course,
- 42:42Speaker 8: who hosts a morning kickoff on this station, said the
- 42:44Speaker 8: nine Am. But we went to you know, you know,
- 42:47Speaker 8: my cards. He's got a suite and stuff. So I
- 42:50Speaker 8: did partake in beverages in the luxury suite in the
- 42:53Speaker 8: North End zone with mister Hardball. But outside of that
- 42:56Speaker 8: only you know, did not did not get the ten
- 42:59Speaker 8: too many Texas football game right as a fan and
- 43:02Speaker 8: thinking and funny enough, today I was thinking about the
- 43:05Speaker 8: schedule next year. There's a span because Texas when they
- 43:10Speaker 8: play Oklahoma, they are the home team, so that technically
- 43:12Speaker 8: is a home game for them, even though they're playing
- 43:14Speaker 8: the Cotton Bowl. But from September twentieth, when they play
- 43:18Speaker 8: Sam Houston to close out non conference play, they won't
- 43:22Speaker 8: play another home game for over a month. That's until
- 43:25Speaker 8: November one, when they host Vanderbilt. So the entire month
- 43:28Speaker 8: of October they do not play a single game at
- 43:31Speaker 8: DKR that.
- 43:33Speaker 5: Is correct, and I know some folks.
- 43:36Speaker 6: You know that, there was some folks that tweeted and
- 43:38Speaker 6: responded to tweets and stuff about that. I'm like, where
- 43:41Speaker 6: you've been. The schedule's been out for a while. But
- 43:46Speaker 6: there's there's a couple of things. It's not just a
- 43:49Speaker 6: blanket and people should know this. It's not just a
- 43:52Speaker 6: blanket thrown over and said. Texas doesn't have to play
- 43:55Speaker 6: a home game in the month of October.
- 43:57Speaker 5: That's not how it works.
- 44:00Speaker 6: First of all, they really front loaded the home games
- 44:02Speaker 6: like most of the teams in the conference too, except
- 44:06Speaker 6: you know what is normally reserved for Cupcake Weekend with
- 44:09Speaker 6: several other schools, Texas does not participate in Cupcake Weekend.
- 44:12Speaker 6: They play Division one FBS programs. They haven't played an
- 44:16Speaker 6: FCS program. Here's your irony, Cameron. The last time that
- 44:21Speaker 6: Texas played an FCS program.
- 44:24Speaker 5: Do you know what it was?
- 44:26Speaker 8: FCS program? Man, I'm trying to I'm trying. It's had
- 44:31Speaker 8: to be the Mac brown Er correct, yep.
- 44:33Speaker 5: And you were single digits in your age.
- 44:36Speaker 3: Oh okay, if.
- 44:38Speaker 6: I'm remembering correctly, you were born in nineteen ninety seven, right,
- 44:41Speaker 6: that's correct. Okay, you were barely in single digits, but
- 44:44Speaker 6: you were in single digits.
- 44:46Speaker 5: It was two.
- 44:46Speaker 6: Thousand and six, and the FCS opponent had to be
- 44:50Speaker 6: added because that was the year that it was going
- 44:53Speaker 6: to twelve games on the regular season schedule, coming off
- 44:56Speaker 6: the national championship, and so it was going to twelve games. Also,
- 45:02Speaker 6: they had a school I want to say it was
- 45:06Speaker 6: Minnesota that was scheduled to come in, or maybe it
- 45:08Speaker 6: was cal somebody these pushed to come in and they
- 45:10Speaker 6: pulled out. So Texas had to scramble and all that
- 45:14Speaker 6: was available was FCS opponents and the opponent was Sam Houston,
- 45:18Speaker 6: Sam Houston State.
- 45:20Speaker 5: They came in this year when.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Texas had to add an extra non conference opponent last
- 45:26Speaker 6: year and this year when they when they joined the SEC,
- 45:30Speaker 6: last year they added Uel Monroe.
- 45:32Speaker 5: This year it's Sam Houston.
- 45:35Speaker 6: But of course their Division one FBS now is SAM
- 45:40Speaker 6: so they were in Conference USA the first year I
- 45:43Speaker 6: guess a couple of years ago.
- 45:45Speaker 5: But anyway, so they.
- 45:48Speaker 6: Have Sam Houston on the schedule as one of the
- 45:51Speaker 6: non conference games.
- 45:52Speaker 5: But to my.
- 45:52Speaker 6: Point, what I was going to say is is it
- 45:55Speaker 6: can be a misnomer to say, well, they don't have
- 45:57Speaker 6: a home game and talked over. There's a couple of
- 45:59Speaker 6: things to keep in mind for anybody who says there
- 46:02Speaker 6: they don't have a home game for six weeks after
- 46:05Speaker 6: September twentieth, and they're right.
- 46:10Speaker 5: But there's a couple of things to keep in mind.
- 46:12Speaker 6: First of all, September twenty seventh, the week after their
- 46:14Speaker 6: fourth game, is an open.
- 46:16Speaker 5: Date on the schedule.
- 46:18Speaker 6: So the last Saturday in September is an open date.
- 46:22Speaker 6: Did I tell you what I'm doing on the open
- 46:23Speaker 6: date that weekend?
- 46:26Speaker 3: Wedding?
- 46:27Speaker 6: Do you have a wedding? No, no weddings. My son
- 46:29Speaker 6: is getting married next year. Congratulations Andy and Chantel. They
- 46:32Speaker 6: announced their engagement last week. They're getting married next year. No, no, no no.
- 46:38Speaker 6: In observance of you might call kind of an important,
- 46:44Speaker 6: if not milestone, type of birthday for me, which is
- 46:47Speaker 6: in September, Linda and I are going to fly that weekend,
- 46:53Speaker 6: on the open day weekend, We're going to fly to
- 46:54Speaker 6: Las Vegas, ooh and see Ringo Star and his All
- 46:58Speaker 6: Star band at the Venetian. In fact, it'll be the
- 47:01Speaker 6: final night of their residency at the Venetian. We did
- 47:04Speaker 6: a very similar thing. It's been six years May of
- 47:07Speaker 6: twenty nineteen, we flew out to see I think it
- 47:11Speaker 6: was the next to last night of Steely Dan's residency
- 47:14Speaker 6: at the Venetian. Great place to see, you know, iconic
- 47:19Speaker 6: musicians perform. When Texas played baseball in Las Vegas back
- 47:22Speaker 6: in February, Keith Morland after the Saturday game, he and
- 47:27Speaker 6: his wife Cindy raced over to the Vedsian. They saw
- 47:30Speaker 6: Chicago playing there, so it's a great venue to see it.
- 47:33Speaker 6: So we're gonna do that on the open date week
- 47:36Speaker 6: in September, we're gonna we're gonna fly to Las Vegas
- 47:39Speaker 6: and have a nice weekend there and we're gonna we're
- 47:44Speaker 6: gonna see Ringo Starr and his All Star band.
- 47:46Speaker 5: So we're gonna do that.
- 47:47Speaker 6: But that's an open date now to the rest of
- 47:50Speaker 6: this so it's an open date on the schedule. Then
- 47:54Speaker 6: you have to remember after they open SEC play the
- 47:58Speaker 6: following week in Gainesville, Florida is the OU game, the
- 48:03Speaker 6: Red River rivalry game, and Texas is the designated home
- 48:08Speaker 6: team this year, so technically they have a home date
- 48:14Speaker 6: in the month of October.
- 48:15Speaker 5: We all know better.
- 48:15Speaker 6: Of course, the games played to the Cotton Bowl at
- 48:18Speaker 6: the State Fair of Texas. They're in Dallas, but that's
- 48:21Speaker 6: not the SEC's problem. You're granted a home game in
- 48:24Speaker 6: October where you choose to play that is up to
- 48:26Speaker 6: you in Texas and Oklahoma play.
- 48:29Speaker 5: That game in Dallas.
- 48:30Speaker 6: So that's where the situation is after that, and then
- 48:34Speaker 6: and then there's road contest after that. That's why there's
- 48:37Speaker 6: no true home game at dk R Texas Memorial Stadium
- 48:43Speaker 6: in the month of October, but there's plenty in September,
- 48:46Speaker 6: and then they have them and don't forget in November.
- 48:49Speaker 5: Uh, you know, they'll.
- 48:51Speaker 6: Have Arkansas and Texas A and M coming to town.
- 48:54Speaker 6: So that's that's uh, that's something to keep.
- 48:57Speaker 5: In mind there, all right.
- 48:59Speaker 6: Coming up next, we're gonna hear some more long speaking
- 49:03Speaker 6: of Long Horn football.
- 49:04Speaker 5: We're gonna hear some more long worn football talk.
- 49:07Speaker 6: We'll hear from Colin Simmons, the long WRNS outstanding edge
- 49:10Speaker 6: rusher who no doubt I'm sure will be a preseason
- 49:14Speaker 6: All American coming off a freshman All Americans. In fact,
- 49:17Speaker 6: he was the National Freshman of the Year award winner
- 49:22Speaker 6: past season. So we'll hear from Colin Simmons coming up
- 49:25Speaker 6: updating the baseball score before he Texas A and M
- 49:28Speaker 6: leading Arkansas four to three top of the fourth inning.
- 49:32Speaker 6: That's game two of that weekend series in Fayetteville. Aggie's
- 49:35Speaker 6: won the opener last night, seven of four. That coupled
- 49:38Speaker 6: with the Texas win here over Auburn, puts the long
- 49:42Speaker 6: Horns two games up on the Razorbacks. But I think
- 49:47Speaker 6: perhaps more significant is that A and M is surging
- 49:51Speaker 6: right now. Eight straight wins for the Aggies, and you
- 49:56Speaker 6: know they've they've won the you know, the first the
- 50:01Speaker 6: first game of that series. They lead the second game
- 50:05Speaker 6: of that series. Right now, Texas A and M is
- 50:09Speaker 6: seven and nine in the league. They're twenty two and
- 50:12Speaker 6: fifteen overall. They won eight in a row. So they
- 50:14Speaker 6: have really climbed back into things, if not necessarily the
- 50:19Speaker 6: conference race, certainly into a respectability and b yeah, on
- 50:25Speaker 6: the outside edge of being a postseason regional contender. There's
- 50:32Speaker 6: still a lot of baseball left to be played. We've
- 50:34Speaker 6: been talking about that. There's been a lot of baseball
- 50:36Speaker 6: left to be played, and the Aggies will be here
- 50:39Speaker 6: next weekend. Friday Saturday is Sunday series against Texas, so
- 50:43Speaker 6: A and M is up four to three on Arkansas
- 50:45Speaker 6: Aggies are batting in the top of the fourth inning
- 50:47Speaker 6: in Fayetteville, Oklahoma, and they're playing a doubleheader because of
- 50:51Speaker 6: the advent of inclement weather coming in tomorrow into the
- 50:55Speaker 6: natural state Arkansas and also the advent of bad weather
- 51:01Speaker 6: in the show me state in Missouri and Oklahoma. And
- 51:04Speaker 6: Missouri are playing a doubleheader and that first game looks
- 51:06Speaker 6: like it may end in a run rule Sooners are
- 51:08Speaker 6: up seventeen to seven when Missouri batting in the bottom
- 51:12Speaker 6: of the eighth inning in game number one, and they
- 51:14Speaker 6: have one more game and Ole Miss in South Carolina underway.
- 51:17Speaker 6: South Carolina surprised the eleventh rank Rebels with a win
- 51:20Speaker 6: yesterday afternoon. They're playing all day games. They're in Columbia,
- 51:24Speaker 6: and Ole Miss leads South Carolina won nothing going to
- 51:27Speaker 6: the bottom of the first Kentucky and Tennessee later and
- 51:32Speaker 6: also Florida and Mississippi State will begin their series and
- 51:37Speaker 6: Vanderbilt in action as well.
- 51:41Speaker 5: But Kentucky and Tennessee will be coming up. So anyway,
- 51:44Speaker 5: we'll keep you.
- 51:44Speaker 6: Posting on all of that, but we'll hear from Colin
- 51:46Speaker 6: Simmons up next when we continue on thirteen under the Zone.
- 51:49Speaker 6: I saw The Who in concert. This would have been
- 51:54Speaker 6: when Reunion Arena was in its infancy early nineteen eighty
- 51:58Speaker 6: and it was a great showing all that. But what
- 52:01Speaker 6: I do remember most, Cameron Parker, is that I worked
- 52:07Speaker 6: in my concert vending days to put myself through college.
- 52:11Speaker 6: I worked the Who's and I'm not kidding, this is
- 52:17Speaker 6: what it was called farewell tour in December nineteen eighty
- 52:22Speaker 6: two in the Cotton Bowl.
- 52:25Speaker 5: I had a hoodie actually that they gave.
- 52:27Speaker 6: They gave hoodies to the crew because it was you know,
- 52:31Speaker 6: it was December, it was kind of chilly, and on
- 52:34Speaker 6: the back it says the Who Farewell Tour. I think
- 52:37Speaker 6: it was like December fourth, nineteen eighty two, Farewell Tour,
- 52:42Speaker 6: Cam Farewell Tour. Do you know how many times The
- 52:45Speaker 6: Who has toured since then?
- 52:49Speaker 2: Do you still have that hoodie?
- 52:51Speaker 5: There's a story behind that hoodie, man ext girlfriend has it.
- 52:57Speaker 3: Yep.
- 52:58Speaker 5: It was a deal.
- 53:00Speaker 6: It was a deal where I went up to see
- 53:02Speaker 6: some friends, several friends in Pittsburgh the next May May
- 53:08Speaker 6: of eighty three, and that was the week and it
- 53:14Speaker 6: was in May, so school was pretty much out. Other
- 53:17Speaker 6: than I can't believe I'm gonna tell a story, but
- 53:20Speaker 6: I'm gonna tell it. Schools out other than like some
- 53:24Speaker 6: final exams, and this college had.
- 53:31Speaker 5: As dorms.
- 53:32Speaker 6: They weren't even really I mean, they were kind of
- 53:34Speaker 6: dorms for they were like big houses.
- 53:37Speaker 5: And I went up there.
- 53:40Speaker 6: I thought I was gonna stay with a buddy of mine,
- 53:43Speaker 6: but they had some renovations going on, and so this
- 53:47Speaker 6: one girl said, where you can stay in the dorm,
- 53:49Speaker 6: there's nobody, you can have your own room, there's nobody
- 53:52Speaker 6: even in the dorm, that kind of thing.
- 53:54Speaker 5: So that was the week.
- 53:55Speaker 6: I spent five nights in an all in a dorm
- 53:58Speaker 6: and an all girls college five nights. Yeah, yeah, And
- 54:04Speaker 6: I know the story. Yeah yeah, yeah, she knows, Yeah, yeah,
- 54:08Speaker 6: she knows.
- 54:08Speaker 5: I mean it was it was May of nineteen eighty three,
- 54:11Speaker 5: for goodness sake, you know. And so yeah, and and.
- 54:18Speaker 6: She got my hoodie and I never got it back.
- 54:21Speaker 6: So that was the biggest loss of that whole trip.
- 54:23Speaker 6: I can tell you that Pittsburgh. I did get to
- 54:25Speaker 6: see the Pirates play play the Reds one night. I
- 54:28Speaker 6: did go see Pittsburgh played Old three River Stadium, So
- 54:30Speaker 6: that was cool. It's the first time I've ever been
- 54:32Speaker 6: to that anyway. That's the story behind the Who. Hoodie
- 54:36Speaker 6: but the But But the Who was always one of
- 54:38Speaker 6: my favorite bands, and they've had so many tours since
- 54:42Speaker 6: and every year it's like a farewell tour. I saw
- 54:44Speaker 6: him at the Irwin Center back back several years ago.
- 54:48Speaker 6: So Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend and that whole groove
- 54:53Speaker 6: was something else, obviously, legends of rock and roll.
- 54:57Speaker 5: All right, enough about that kind of stuff. Uh, let's uh, let's.
- 55:01Speaker 6: Hear from Colin Simmons, the Loghorns edge rusher, and his
- 55:07Speaker 6: thoughts on what he's done in spring practice his number
- 55:11Speaker 6: switch from number eleven to number one in the coming season.
- 55:15Speaker 16: If you've grown up in a year on and off.
- 55:17Speaker 22: The field, I feel like I've grown mentally, physically, and
- 55:25Speaker 22: spiritually all in one year being here at the University
- 55:28Speaker 22: of Texas.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Yeah. Hell, how did I grow? In the Marias?
- 55:36Speaker 22: Just being around these coaches, this coaching staff, and being
- 55:40Speaker 22: around the players that that and being around the strength
- 55:42Speaker 22: staff also just builds the mental and the physical process.
- 55:46Speaker 22: And just waking up praying a guy, talking to guy
- 55:48Speaker 22: throughout my day helped me from my spiritual point of view,
- 55:52Speaker 22: How would you assess your freshman.
- 55:54Speaker 5: Year and what you take me somewhere?
- 55:57Speaker 22: I feel like I need to prove improve on a
- 55:59Speaker 22: lot everything, honestly, you know, I get off my hands,
- 56:02Speaker 22: my eyes, uh, being physical, just playing the run, playing
- 56:07Speaker 22: the past, everything, help yourself. How I feel like I
- 56:12Speaker 22: had a pretty solid freshman year. It could have been
- 56:14Speaker 22: way better, could have been way way better, just knowing
- 56:17Speaker 22: just knowing my my talents, you know, knowing myself, knowing
- 56:20Speaker 22: my abilities.
- 56:21Speaker 3: So you know, it.
- 56:23Speaker 9: Seemed like you and him got pretty tired last year.
- 56:25Speaker 9: How would you all? How would you describe y'all relationship?
- 56:28Speaker 9: And what does he do for you?
- 56:30Speaker 16: Personally?
- 56:32Speaker 3: Me and that's my brother. That's my brother.
- 56:34Speaker 22: Like even during the raccoon process, like I would go
- 56:38Speaker 22: go on visits with and and stuff like that. So
- 56:40Speaker 22: me and I always had a relationship. And can I
- 56:42Speaker 22: hear that second question again?
- 56:44Speaker 16: What does he do for you? Like mentally on the field,
- 56:46Speaker 16: how does he help you with the help as well?
- 56:48Speaker 3: Mentally? Will all the players go through him? Honestly?
- 56:50Speaker 22: You know he's the middle linebacker, so he runs the defense,
- 56:53Speaker 22: you know, and from a mental standpoint, you know, just
- 56:58Speaker 22: everything goes to him. How does a hard lot of
- 57:00Speaker 22: juice he he's and him him being? And is the
- 57:05Speaker 22: juice just his playmaking? You know, the way he carried yourself,
- 57:09Speaker 22: the way he talked all that.
- 57:11Speaker 18: What was your biggest addressment from high school to college?
- 57:14Speaker 16: You know all got fust hit.
- 57:16Speaker 22: Uh just schedule, schedule, honestly, you know, I feel like
- 57:20Speaker 22: all the drills and stuff like that, I've seen it before,
- 57:22Speaker 22: you know, having all the trainers that I had in
- 57:23Speaker 22: my life time and stuff like that, and all the
- 57:26Speaker 22: tough coaching that I had growing up and stuff like
- 57:28Speaker 22: That's I was prepared for it.
- 57:29Speaker 3: But it was just the schedule.
- 57:31Speaker 23: If you came in with Xena, how is he coming
- 57:34Speaker 23: along in year two? And you know physically he looks
- 57:36Speaker 23: the part. What have you seen so far?
- 57:38Speaker 3: Zena has really grown from year one to year two?
- 57:40Speaker 22: And this year you will see you will see you'll
- 57:43Speaker 22: see a lot was.
- 57:45Speaker 15: A hard practice like today or any other day.
- 57:48Speaker 16: What's your favorite.
- 57:48Speaker 7: Beal to eat?
- 57:50Speaker 22: Oh that's too I really you know it's had the
- 57:55Speaker 22: wing stopping pluckers. You know, y'all give me a ten
- 57:57Speaker 22: ten count ten count limp pipperwing fall.
- 58:01Speaker 10: If you were really confident. I think after you a
- 58:03Speaker 10: one game last year talking about how you know you
- 58:07Speaker 10: were undeniable.
- 58:08Speaker 13: Or something like that, you still have that confidence? Or
- 58:10Speaker 13: were there times last year where you're like, Okay, this
- 58:13Speaker 13: is a little bit tougher, what about it?
- 58:15Speaker 22: I think, honestly, I never lose my confidence playing this
- 58:18Speaker 22: playing in sport. You know, you you gotta have confidence
- 58:21Speaker 22: playing this sport, going into them games, going into practice,
- 58:24Speaker 22: going in walking into this facility, you have to have
- 58:26Speaker 22: the utmost confidence.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Does the coaching staff try to encourage you to kind
- 58:30Speaker 1: of show that side of you, that confident and energetic
- 58:33Speaker 1: side when it comes.
- 58:34Speaker 3: To name on the field, Yes, sir, they want us
- 58:36Speaker 3: to be ourselves.
- 58:37Speaker 16: Speaking of your confidence, how how many sacks you're gonna
- 58:39Speaker 16: get this?
- 58:39Speaker 17: Ye?
- 58:40Speaker 3: Inflations, I'm trying to break the sack record. I just
- 58:45Speaker 3: say that.
- 58:46Speaker 16: Okay, So what is.
- 58:47Speaker 10: The key to getting in an offensive line in to head?
- 58:50Speaker 3: Where is the key?
- 58:51Speaker 16: Yeah?
- 58:53Speaker 22: I mean, honestly catching them off guard, you know, when
- 58:58Speaker 22: they least expected. You know, as the game goes on,
- 59:02Speaker 22: you start chirping and chirping, and you know, they start
- 59:05Speaker 22: chirping back, and then they lose focus on what their
- 59:08Speaker 22: their play cause is and so yeah, is it just
- 59:11Speaker 22: as much a.
- 59:12Speaker 19: Part of your game for your own confidence that that
- 59:16Speaker 19: that comes out like that's your natural personality?
- 59:19Speaker 22: How much does that fuel your own Yeah, it feels
- 59:22Speaker 22: me a lot, honestly like that. That's That's how I
- 59:24Speaker 22: grew up playing football, honestly, you know, coming fromhere I
- 59:27Speaker 22: come from That's just how I.
- 59:28Speaker 3: Grew up playing football.
- 59:29Speaker 16: What's my own question?
- 59:30Speaker 3: So fast into your amazing that's my dog.
- 59:33Speaker 22: I love him die and you know he's taught me
- 59:36Speaker 22: a lot since since him being here, and you know,
- 59:40Speaker 22: he gonna really develop me as a person on and
- 59:43Speaker 22: off the field.
- 59:44Speaker 23: Once he liked in the fields here an energy guy
- 59:46Speaker 23: is here technician anything like that?
- 59:49Speaker 22: You know, he has the days where he has energy,
- 59:50Speaker 22: and he has the days where he laid back. You know,
- 59:52Speaker 22: it depends on what type of practice, what type of
- 59:54Speaker 22: practice we have, so we gotta we bring it out
- 59:57Speaker 22: of him.
- 59:57Speaker 18: What are you seeing from Lance Jackson Man?
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: Lance is something special?
- 1:00:02Speaker 22: Honestly, Honestly, I see something special on Lance and he's
- 1:00:05Speaker 22: definitely going first round in the next the next two
- 1:00:07Speaker 22: three years.
- 1:00:08Speaker 14: I saw Mike felt some type of way about you
- 1:00:10Speaker 14: changing your number. But what was that interaction like.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: For you, uh, me and Mike.
- 1:00:16Speaker 22: I actually had that conversation early on at the Super Bowl.
- 1:00:20Speaker 22: He knew I was changing my number, and I kind
- 1:00:23Speaker 22: of told him that I wanted to take my own
- 1:00:25Speaker 22: path in my own lane, and he understood it, but
- 1:00:28Speaker 22: you know, he don't want me to change it.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: But I had to die.
- 1:00:30Speaker 10: What was it like to kind of have.
- 1:00:32Speaker 14: Something like that though, to be in your corner so
- 1:00:34Speaker 14: you can look up to you, but also like.
- 1:00:35Speaker 18: Stop I did off.
- 1:00:37Speaker 22: Now it feels great for Shure having somebody by my
- 1:00:40Speaker 22: side and you know in my corner, you know.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Giving me, giving me the.
- 1:00:45Speaker 22: Giving me that courage and giving me the give me
- 1:00:48Speaker 22: that advice and stuff like that.
- 1:00:50Speaker 10: So why number one?
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: Why number one? Because I'm the one Carlin?
- 1:00:55Speaker 9: Last year in hindsight, we went against two NFL tackles
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: who in your own What did you learn from going
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: against bags?
- 1:01:03Speaker 22: I learned a lot, honestly. Like I played high school
- 1:01:07Speaker 22: at Bigcamp. I played high school with Big Camp. So
- 1:01:10Speaker 22: it was just like sending him transition from high school
- 1:01:13Speaker 22: to college, making that big jump as a as a
- 1:01:16Speaker 22: player that he is. You know, he he wasn't like
- 1:01:18Speaker 22: how he was in high school. Like he's way different,
- 1:01:20Speaker 22: Like he's way way more talented, way more you know,
- 1:01:25Speaker 22: you know, just way more better as a person. So
- 1:01:27Speaker 22: like I already like already learned a lot from him. Kelvin,
- 1:01:31Speaker 22: that's a bit. That's a dog. That is a dog,
- 1:01:33Speaker 22: Like I've never seen a player like him before, and
- 1:01:35Speaker 22: just going against him every day like that.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: That really it's gonna it helped me for this year.
- 1:01:41Speaker 18: What you seeing from Goosby and.
- 1:01:43Speaker 22: Baker a dog a dog, especially Gooseby and especially Baker,
- 1:01:48Speaker 22: like them are two dogs.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: And Baker's gonna be very talented this year.
- 1:01:52Speaker 22: And Goosby he already showcased his skills and he's gonna
- 1:01:55Speaker 22: be very talented.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: This year too.
- 1:01:57Speaker 18: More about Nick Brooks.
- 1:01:58Speaker 22: Nick Brooks gonna be very talented this year in the
- 1:02:00Speaker 22: next two to three years.
- 1:02:02Speaker 13: Comm I supposed to you last year, one thing you
- 1:02:03Speaker 13: talked about what wanted to grow was it wanted to
- 1:02:05Speaker 13: ban How have you kind of seen yourself growing before
- 1:02:07Speaker 13: the kind of next ups in that the garden.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: You let repeating that one more time.
- 1:02:10Speaker 19: Yeah, when I talk with you last year, you said
- 1:02:11Speaker 19: more the aspects of your game you feel you have
- 1:02:12Speaker 19: to grow.
- 1:02:13Speaker 16: In is defending the ruff.
- 1:02:14Speaker 10: You know, how do you kind of see yourself growing
- 1:02:16Speaker 10: in that garden.
- 1:02:19Speaker 22: I feel like my new cause helped me a lot
- 1:02:21Speaker 22: with defending the Run this year and the things that
- 1:02:24Speaker 22: he taught me and and told me and showed me.
- 1:02:27Speaker 22: And honestly, you just gonna have to watch the film.
- 1:02:30Speaker 22: You're gonna have to watch the film with the run.
- 1:02:32Speaker 10: Without getting me the secret office. This, Yeah, one thing
- 1:02:34Speaker 10: you can kind of provided that maybe.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: You give me t defend the Runner.
- 1:02:38Speaker 13: Facts, go really go with that last ones for Godland,
- 1:02:41Speaker 13: go back to get off for a second, did you?
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: I can't?
- 1:02:44Speaker 19: I ask you would probably didn't wanna change your mechanics
- 1:02:46Speaker 19: that much, but how how how do you even improve
- 1:02:48Speaker 19: that technically from a technical stamp, but to get faster
- 1:02:52Speaker 19: or come out and flatter?
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: How do you how do you fee that?
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: So la? He had me switch on my stands.
- 1:02:59Speaker 22: He had means with you're my stance to work on
- 1:03:02Speaker 22: different get offs and stuff like that, with different moves,
- 1:03:05Speaker 22: And I think doubt that that helped me going into
- 1:03:07Speaker 22: this next year.
- 1:03:08Speaker 14: You ready to get that seohn, Alexander or last month,
- 1:03:11Speaker 14: what would you like to finally just happened or had
- 1:03:13Speaker 14: to look.
- 1:03:14Speaker 22: At that was That was a special moment, don I'm
- 1:03:16Speaker 22: gonna be real. It was a special moment for me
- 1:03:18Speaker 22: and my family because my family was there also.
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: It was just a special moment for me, I hope.
- 1:03:24Speaker 22: I'm pretty sure it was a special moment for mister
- 1:03:26Speaker 22: Alexander also.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: And it just felt great. It felt great.
- 1:03:30Speaker 22: Holding that trumphy in my hand out because I feel
- 1:03:32Speaker 22: like I worked so hard for it and I feel
- 1:03:35Speaker 22: like this school helped me get it.
- 1:03:37Speaker 13: How cool is it to have there's a colle strins
- 1:03:39Speaker 13: to be with your family, especially your brother, for him
- 1:03:41Speaker 13: to be there with you and be able to celebrate
- 1:03:44Speaker 13: your college stress.
- 1:03:45Speaker 22: Honestly, it just made my heart smile. It made my
- 1:03:48Speaker 22: heart smile. Just making my family smell makes my heart smile.
- 1:03:51Speaker 22: And I feel like that's that's what drives me most
- 1:03:53Speaker 22: is my family.
- 1:03:54Speaker 18: Who's a young guy to good surprise.
- 1:03:58Speaker 22: It's a lot of them, honestly, just as Terry, just
- 1:04:02Speaker 22: as Terry on the defense and Jamie French on the offense.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: What do you like? Go justice? That dog and him he.
- 1:04:09Speaker 22: Just wanted, he wanted, he lighted the grind, He like
- 1:04:11Speaker 22: the he like he like cut. What comes with this sport.
- 1:04:14Speaker 22: He like the the he like the process.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: Yeah, all right, there's some good stuff from Colin Simmons.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:04:22Speaker 6: We said we'd bring it to you, and we will
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: up next inconceivable one hour later.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: But it's still worth the wait. On thirteen under the zone.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: A walk back in the first roundouts up the middle
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: in the fourth and sixth. If she reaches, Texas wins.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: If she's put out, we go extras. Three to three,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: bottom of seven prison first pitch, swinging the.
- 1:04:45Speaker 20: Drive left field.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: It's a walk off brand slam off the wall of
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: the building across the street. Texas wins, and the Longhorns
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: down three nothing going to the sixth, come all the
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: way back.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: They beat LSU seven.
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: In the first game.
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: From UFCU disch Fawuk Field. It's the Texas Longhorns against
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: the Auburn Tigers in the weekend three game series. First
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: payoff pitch of the evening is strike three, called right
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: on the outside corner on a change up that Irish
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: did not like the call of a home played umpire
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: Jason Bradley. But it's a strikeout and the inning's over stretch.
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: Here's the pitch and that's hit on the ground. Sharply
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: knockdown like Gorba. His only play will be the first
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: if he can get it there in time. Pen he
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: does a one hopper from Casey Forba into Kimball. Schusler
- 1:05:36Speaker 6: at first to record the outs, want to know the
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: count and Eathan Mendoza the stretch and the pitch swung
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: on in a ground ball, and that's going to make
- 1:05:44Speaker 6: it up the middle of ace hit rounding third, Timmy
- 1:05:46Speaker 6: Farmer will come in the score. Ethan Mendoza drives it
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: right up the middle of corn RBI single.
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: The long horns are on the board. It's now to one.
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: All the balls, two strikes the count and you go
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: two pitch to Cooper McMurray and he swing.
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: Said, lights it. Oh my goodness with that caught.
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: Oh my goodness, what a catch by Max Grubs.
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: I thought it hit him in the head. He caught
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: it in the glove for out number one.
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: Amazing, no balls, two strikes, two outs. Here's the wind
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: up from Grums and the O two swing and a miss.
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: He struck him out one, two, three. Max Grubbs, with
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: the help of his own self defense.
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: Clears out the inning.
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: Here's Florence pitch Jalalin swings and drives this one toward
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: the alley and right center, and he'll get down for
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: extra bases, grounding third to tie the game is Ethan
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: Ndosa floors around second, trouble for the center fielder to
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: pick it up.
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: Shalen will make it the third. The game is tied
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: to two.
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: Shalen floors triples into the alley, revolves two strikes, two
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: outs from the stretch. The payoff pitch from Max Grubbs
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: with the runners in.
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: Motion, twing and a miss struck him out.
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: Oh in a big strike out from Max Grubbs and
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: Max and the log Worns are out of the top
- 1:06:59Speaker 6: of the seventh.
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: The down full of Kimball' Schusler. Here's the pitch swung
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: on the ball hit well.
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: Out toward left. You can say good night to this
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: one off the back wall of the bullpen. Driving it
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: out of the ballpark. Kimball's Shusler puts the log Horns
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: in front for the first time tonight.
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: Texas leads it three to two.
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: Any fans rising to their feet now looking for the strikeout,
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: no balls, two strikes, two outs, the two good morning,
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: good afternoon of good night. Three pitch swinging strikeouts. Bob
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: Terrell goes down swinging, and Dylan Balantis sets the Tigers
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: down one, two three in the eighth the stretch from Valantis,
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: here's the O two pitch swing and a miss. Freylik
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: strikes out. They'll complete the put out with a throwdown
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: the first and the Texas Longhorns have taken Game one
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: of this weekend SEC series from the eighth rank Auburn Tigers.
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: Final score Texas three, Auburn two. That was yesterday and
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: last night, and now it's today and the evening to come.
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: We welcome you back here as we continue from UFCU
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: Dish falk Field this hour of the program, our final
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: hour here on thirteen hundred the Zone, the highlight montage
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: so expertly crafted and put together by the producer Cameron Parker.
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: I'm Craig Way Longhorns on the field, taking ditting practice
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: right now and getting ready for Game two of this
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: weekend series against Sommer. First of all, it has started
- 1:08:29Speaker 6: off with the walk off grand Slam for Texas Softball
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: yesterday in the game that preceded this one, and just
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: like today, the game across the street at Macombsfield will
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: precede this one. In fact, it will start in about
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: twenty five minutes Game two of that weekend series between
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: Texas and LSU. The Longhorns were down three to nothing,
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: one to the bottom of six. They got a pair
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: of home runs to tie the score in the sixth,
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: and then Reese Atwood with I think she's got one
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: hundred and ninety four career RBIs down a walk off
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: grand slam. Now, I gotta say this. I love my man,
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: Andrew Haynes. In fact, I'm the one who brought him
- 1:09:07Speaker 6: on to do softball several years ago. Does a fabulous job,
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: and they love him over there. But Andrew, you disappointed me.
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: Man.
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: You got to know the name of that building across
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: the street.
- 1:09:17Speaker 7: I can't say it with a straight face.
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: The building across the street, as he said on the
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: on the resat with home run, isn't that the graduate
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: student housing building?
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: It is so like hoop, I can look at the
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: name right now. Actually, okay, it's yeah.
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: I was told that that that those new buildings that
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: were built over there, and there's a there's a coffee
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: shop over there.
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: I got to try that out.
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: But I think it's for graduate student housing over there,
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: because housing, as we know, is always at a premium
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: in this town for students, for ut especially the grad students.
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: But they kind of have a place of their own now.
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: So CAMPI East Campus Graduate Apartments. Okay, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:09:55Speaker 8: I mean, that'd be a mouthful to say. Yeah, I'm
- 1:09:57Speaker 8: with you.
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: There it's off the East Campus Graduate apartment.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: It's the ECGA.
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: Yeah, there you.
- 1:10:03Speaker 7: Go, there you go.
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: Okay, all right, well, okay, we'll give him some.
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: Grace on that one.
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: He had a great call of it, great call of
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: that walk off grand slam. And you can hear Game
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: two of that softball series on the Texas Longorns app
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: on and you connect to it through the iHeartRadio app
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: and online at Texas loongornge dot com to hear Game
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: two of that and again it starts at four point
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: thirty at the bottom of the hours.
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: Texas tries to win that series.
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: Here, Texas tries to win the baseball series with Auburn.
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: They won last night three to two.
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: Rallied back from the two nothing deficits and managed to
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: get a couple of runs you heard me say, a
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: triple for Jalen Flores and initially it was put up
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: as a triple, but it was changed to a double
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: in an er, and I think that was the correct
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: call on that because Bristol Carter, the centerfielder, had a
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: difficult time coming up with the ball, so I think
- 1:10:59Speaker 6: it was but it it got the run home and
- 1:11:01Speaker 6: the game ended up being tied. And then of course
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: Kimball Schusler with the home run that hit the back
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: of the visiting bullpen wall. And as briskly as this
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: wind is blowing out here, and it's ninety three degrees
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: here the ballpark, so it's a hot, windy afternoon and
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: it'll still be a hot windy evening. That ball didn't
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: need any help. I mean it flew right out of there.
- 1:11:28Speaker 6: So Texas gets to win in Game one, and they
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: get Game two coming up, and it's gonna be a
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: battle of lefties in the contest. Kate Fisher will start
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: for Auburn and Fisher one and oh on a three nine.
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: He'll make his ninth appearance and start of the season.
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: Hadn't worked an awful lot twenty five and a third innings,
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: but he'll start for Auburn and Luke Harrison will be
- 1:11:56Speaker 6: on the mound for Texas Luke two and zero and
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: the two nine to three earn run average for the Horns,
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: and he'll be making his tenth appearance and tenth start
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: of the season. So that's the com It's a six
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: forty five pregame start time, and it is a seven
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: o'clock first pitch, and you can hear that on one
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: oh three point one FM, Austin's eight station, our sister station,
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: one oh three point one FM. You can also hear
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: it on the Texas Longhorns app, on the the Lahn app.
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: Of course, you can connect to it through the iHeartRadio app.
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: You can do that, and additionally, you can hear it
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: online at Texas long Horns dot com. And if you're
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: coming out of the ballgame, if you want to bring
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: your you know, your earbuds with with your portable radio
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: or your headset radio, whatever you want to do with that,
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: you can hear it in our ballpark frequency of eighty
- 1:12:54Speaker 6: seven point seven FM.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: So that's the case there. Now, that's what my dad
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: did last night.
- 1:12:57Speaker 8: You brought us AirPods and you didn't really put on
- 1:13:00Speaker 8: the stream and he was like, wow, the stream is
- 1:13:01Speaker 8: far behind, And I was like, what do you expect.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: He just he needs to.
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: Just bring bring, bring the little portable radio thing.
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: There's lots of fans you like to do. Our friends,
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: the Roses, you know.
- 1:13:15Speaker 6: They rose, you know, and Marshall Kirkland, who doesn't. She's
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: over at softball a lot listen, but they you know,
- 1:13:24Speaker 6: they do that. They've got that down with women's basketball,
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: and a lot of the fans do that with football.
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: Uh and in the in house frequency as well. So
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: an app for.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: That, right you think? Or maybe not?
- 1:13:36Speaker 6: It's kind of hard to do that in real time though,
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: off of an app, you know what I'm saying. To
- 1:13:41Speaker 6: do that in a real time app, I think that
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: would be extremely difficult to do because there's got to
- 1:13:45Speaker 6: be a delay if you're doing it off of an app,
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: as opposed to just listening to a frequency that's pulling
- 1:13:51Speaker 6: it off almost as quickly as it comes out of
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: my mouth, and and Keith Morland's as well. So here
- 1:13:58Speaker 6: are the stakes. Texas going into today had a two
- 1:14:05Speaker 6: game lead on the Arkansas Razorbacks on top of the
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: SEC standings two games Texas fourteen to two. Arkansas was
- 1:14:14Speaker 6: lost to Texas A and M last night in their
- 1:14:17Speaker 6: series opener seven to four. Arkansas, like Texas, scheduled for
- 1:14:21Speaker 6: a Thursday Friday Saturday series. I can tell you right
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: now that's not going to happen in Fayetteville. They've had
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: to make further adjustments. That more on that in a moment.
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: Arkansas's twelve and four Tennessee begins its series at home.
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: Against Kentucky tonight.
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: If they win the first one, that would get them
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: to twelve and four, but then it's a real log jam.
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: LSU is eleven and five, Georgia is ten and six,
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: Auburn and Ole miss are each nine and seven. In
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: Vanderbilt as well. Oklahoma is now nine to eight after
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: winning their first game to day of a doubleheader. So,
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: as I mentioned, I started to say, weather has already
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: made its presence felt in this league. And as a
- 1:15:03Speaker 6: result of that, two series that were scheduled for Thursday
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: Friday Saturday, Oklahoma at Missouri and Texas A and M
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: at Arkansas both were then shifted into a Thursday nine game,
- 1:15:21Speaker 6: which they all played, and then a doubleheader today because
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: they're expecting really in clement weather in the states of
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: Missouri and Arkansas, among other places. So first game the
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: day between Oklahoma and Missouri no problem for the Sooners.
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: They blasted Missouri seventeen to seven, run ruled them in
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: the eight innings. So Oklahoma got the win to get
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: them to nine and eight in conference play, and they
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: go for the sweep of the series in the second
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: game that I think is about to get under way.
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: It's going to get underway here in a few minutes,
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: but it hasn't started yet. Missouris now owen seventeen in
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: the league. They have not yet won a conference game.
- 1:16:09Speaker 7: Now.
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: The Arkansas Texas A and M series, which saw the
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: Aggies win the opener last night seven to four, and
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: like I said, it pushed Arkansas down to twelve and
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: four and two games back of Texas. It gave the
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: Aggies an eighth straight win and their sixth straight in
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: conference play to get to with the victory seven and
- 1:16:35Speaker 6: nine in the league. Second game of that series, and
- 1:16:39Speaker 6: the first of a doubleheader is underway right now, and
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: they've just finished the bottom of the sixth inning. A
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: and M started off hot again. They got out to
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: a three to nothing lead and it was four to one.
- 1:16:50Speaker 6: The Razorbacks have come back with nine unanswered runs spread
- 1:16:53Speaker 6: out out of the course of three innings, and they've
- 1:16:56Speaker 6: just finished the bottom of six and Arkansas's up ten fours.
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: They go to the seventh.
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: So if Arkansas wins that game, they will have split
- 1:17:02Speaker 6: the two games and then they'll have one more game
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: to be played this evening at ball Walker Stadium in Fayetteville.
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: So Texas, you know, they picked up a game on
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: Arkansas last night. Arkansas may pick up a half game
- 1:17:20Speaker 6: on Texas if they hold on and win the first game,
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: penning the outcome of the Longhorns game to night, and
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: it's going to start right around that same time as
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: the long worn game. Now, actually, the Texas game, I
- 1:17:33Speaker 6: believe is going to start early. I think it's earlier.
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: I think it's going to be at six. And remember
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: that contest. The Texas game was moved forward by one
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: hour from seven.
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: O'clock to six o'clock.
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: That's because they had to move tomorrow's game, originally scheduled
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: for two in the afternoon forward to noon. And since
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: they did that moving it forward to noon, who wanted
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: to give the two teams at a little more time tomorrow.
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: So that's why they moved this evening's game foward by
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: one hour. To six o'clock. So that's the situation there,
- 1:18:10Speaker 6: and because of that, the Texas game will start an
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: hour I believe before that second Arkansas Texas A and
- 1:18:18Speaker 6: M game. But again razorbacks up ten to four in
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: the seventh inning. The other one a bit of a surprise.
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: Eleventh rank Old miss which lost at South Carolina yesterday afternoon,
- 1:18:28Speaker 6: is trailing the game Cocks in game two of that series.
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: It's four to one South Carolina leading. That's in the
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: top of the fourth and as I mentioned, Kentucky and
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: Tennessee will get underway at five point thirty. That's the
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: first game of their weekend series. Also, the first game
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: of a weekend series will be Florida and Mississippi State
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: and start bill to night. Georgia and Vanderbilt Big Series
- 1:18:52Speaker 6: will start at six o'clock tonight. Vanderbilt won the series
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: opener last night and LSU, which came back with a
- 1:18:57Speaker 6: couple of three run homers late to be that. Alabama
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: will host the Crimson Tide. Game two of that series
- 1:19:03Speaker 6: is at six o'clock tonight. So that gets caught up
- 1:19:05Speaker 6: on baseball. There's one other thing we need to tell
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: you about, and we'll do that when we come back,
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: because it's going to be a bridge between baseball and
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: long worn football. Think about it as we go to
- 1:19:18Speaker 6: the break. And then we're also going to hear from
- 1:19:21Speaker 6: Anthony Hill, Longhorn's linebacker. But up next we're going to
- 1:19:26Speaker 6: visit with Geene Watson, and he is, of course our
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: man with the Chicago White Sox. That's next when we
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: continue on thirteen hundred Zone. But of course it's Major
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: League Baseball weekend as well, and a big one, a
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: big weekend for several teams, including the Texas Rangers, who
- 1:19:44Speaker 6: have the Dodgers at a home this weekend. Here to
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: join us with our weekly conversation about Major League Baseball,
- 1:19:53Speaker 6: straight out of Temple, Texas, USA, but from the Chicago
- 1:19:58Speaker 6: White Sox front office Gene Watson, who joins us. You're
- 1:20:01Speaker 6: in Triple A country again tonight, are you not, Geno?
- 1:20:05Speaker 24: No, I'm actually at Edmund Santa Fe High School watching
- 1:20:08Speaker 24: uh ethan Holiday and and Eli Willets play. There's a
- 1:20:12Speaker 24: big first round match up here, high school matchup, So
- 1:20:15Speaker 24: I'm on the amateur scene tonight.
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: Okay, Now, Eli Willets, is he the son of Reggie yep?
- 1:20:21Speaker 7: I thought then and Ethan is the son of Matt Holliday.
- 1:20:25Speaker 24: So there's a Ian Kinsler's here, Phil Nevin's here, Jim
- 1:20:29Speaker 24: Tomey's here.
- 1:20:29Speaker 7: There's a lot of star power here at this game today.
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: Do you notice do you ever notice Gino when you
- 1:20:35Speaker 6: go to watch prospects and I'm talking to high school
- 1:20:38Speaker 6: not necessarily collegiate level though could possibly apply to college games,
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: but especially high school guys. Uh, when you go to
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: watch it and they're aware of your presence, do they are?
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: Do you ever notice that they notice? And that it
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: gets a little bit you know, nervous for them or whatever,
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: that that sort of thing.
- 1:21:01Speaker 24: You know what, Funny enough, it's for the prospects, it's not,
- 1:21:05Speaker 24: But for the kids that aren't the prospects it is.
- 1:21:09Speaker 24: And it's really fun to see the innocence of the game.
- 1:21:13Speaker 24: And really I personally try to, you know, yesterday, meeting
- 1:21:18Speaker 24: with Eli Willitts, tried to say hello, every kid on
- 1:21:21Speaker 24: his team, He's from Fort Cobb, Oklahoma and they were
- 1:21:23Speaker 24: playing in Low Grove, Oklahoma, to you know, two dots
- 1:21:26Speaker 24: on a map, and you know, so you want to
- 1:21:29Speaker 24: respect any time of players in uniform. You want to
- 1:21:32Speaker 24: show them proper respect and just honor them for the
- 1:21:35Speaker 24: work that they put in to be a part of
- 1:21:36Speaker 24: the team. And so it's a lot of fun, especially
- 1:21:39Speaker 24: when you get into the smaller towns across the United States.
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: All Right, I'm I'm I'm going to ask you a question.
- 1:21:45Speaker 6: You fill in the blank by this, not pictures, not pictures.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: The best young.
- 1:21:53Speaker 6: Major league prospect who's already in the bigs right now?
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: The best young Major league are right now, regardless of league,
- 1:22:00Speaker 6: regardless of the vision, regardless of club. The best young
- 1:22:04Speaker 6: major league player right now is.
- 1:22:08Speaker 7: Oh my gosh, you putting me on the spot now.
- 1:22:11Speaker 6: And I'm saying not established stars and superstars as well.
- 1:22:15Speaker 24: Jackson Holiday, who's still kind of scuffling offensively, has got
- 1:22:20Speaker 24: all the star power in the world. We've got a
- 1:22:22Speaker 24: young catcher named Edgar Quero that's from Cuba that.
- 1:22:25Speaker 7: Was acquired by the La Angels.
- 1:22:27Speaker 24: It's really going to be a high potential offensive upside player.
- 1:22:30Speaker 24: I mean, h zach Netto with the La Angels is
- 1:22:34Speaker 24: not quite yet established yet. This guy is going to be,
- 1:22:37Speaker 24: you know, a ten year, fifteen year major league shortstop.
- 1:22:40Speaker 7: And so.
- 1:22:42Speaker 24: I will tell you the game is getting younger it's
- 1:22:46Speaker 24: there's so much star power on the way, and they
- 1:22:49Speaker 24: do such a great job of promoting these prospects now
- 1:22:51Speaker 24: and now more than ever, prospects that sign out of
- 1:22:55Speaker 24: the draft, they get to the big leagues quicker than
- 1:22:57Speaker 24: ever now, And so the game is in in really
- 1:23:00Speaker 24: good shape from a talent standpoint, and you know, the Major.
- 1:23:04Speaker 7: League Baseball has done a great job of securing that.
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: Here's why I bring that up because you mentioned this
- 1:23:09Speaker 6: young man last week. He's in his third he just
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: started his third major league season.
- 1:23:13Speaker 5: I'm talking about Tyler Soderstrom of the Athletics.
- 1:23:17Speaker 6: What are the kinds of things because I've seen a
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: lot of stuff where folks talk about him having real
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: not just star power potential, but superstar power potential.
- 1:23:27Speaker 5: What do you agree with that? And do you see
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: that one hundred percent?
- 1:23:30Speaker 24: And you know what he and I mean this, he
- 1:23:32Speaker 24: might hit fifty this year because they're playing in Sacramento
- 1:23:35Speaker 24: and when Andy heats up, he's got a chance to
- 1:23:37Speaker 24: hit fifty home runs. Tyler's brother actually worked for me
- 1:23:41Speaker 24: in Kansas City. He was one of my scouts in
- 1:23:43Speaker 24: Kansas City and went back to law school and their
- 1:23:46Speaker 24: family owns an Almond, an almond factory in Almond Farm
- 1:23:50Speaker 24: in northern California, and Tyler was actually it was between
- 1:23:54Speaker 24: Garrett Crochet and Tyler Salderstrum for the Chicago White Sox pick.
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: And obviously we drive greup for Shay.
- 1:24:01Speaker 24: But what a tremendous talent and what a fun team
- 1:24:04Speaker 24: we just played in three games they swept us.
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: We play them again three games next week.
- 1:24:09Speaker 24: And I'm telling you, if you want to watch a fun,
- 1:24:11Speaker 24: young team that can beat you a lot of different ways,
- 1:24:14Speaker 24: pay attention to the athletics because they're coming and he's
- 1:24:18Speaker 24: going to be a big part of what they're doing.
- 1:24:19Speaker 7: But he's got a chance to hit fifty this.
- 1:24:22Speaker 24: Year with the ballpark they're going to be playing in
- 1:24:25Speaker 24: and the pace he's on right now.
- 1:24:27Speaker 6: Yeah, there's another guy that I want to ask you
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: about because I was watching.
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: The Blue Jays play the other and.
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: The guy that I was interested in getting your thoughts
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: on is Alan Rodin. And he's a guy who's hitting
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: three twenty right now, and he's he's a guy that
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: all of a sudden has attracted a lot of attention
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: and he's only a rookie. The blue Jay's left fielder
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: Alan Roden. What can you tell us about him?
- 1:25:00Speaker 24: Well, he's just a young offensive player. You know, he
- 1:25:04Speaker 24: he really slings the bat. Well, he was a third
- 1:25:06Speaker 24: round pick out of Creighton University and and you know
- 1:25:09Speaker 24: he's going to be more hit than power.
- 1:25:12Speaker 7: Uh but but he's a baseball.
- 1:25:13Speaker 24: Player consission and they really like him, and you know,
- 1:25:16Speaker 24: he's a big part of what their future is going
- 1:25:17Speaker 24: to be in as they you know, now they've locked
- 1:25:19Speaker 24: up Vladimir Guerrero Junior.
- 1:25:21Speaker 7: Not sure what's going to happen.
- 1:25:22Speaker 24: With Boba Shd, but but he is certainly a big
- 1:25:25Speaker 24: part of what the future is going to be in.
- 1:25:27Speaker 7: A really nice college player out of create University.
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: YEP.
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: Talking to Baseball with Gene Watson here on thirteen under
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: the Zoner. Okay, let's get some analysis from you early tests,
- 1:25:39Speaker 6: not only for the Rangers, but also for the Dodgers,
- 1:25:41Speaker 6: who kind of went through after they started eight to no.
- 1:25:44Speaker 6: They dropped six of nine. Now they've won three in
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: a row. Colorado's a slump buster, we know that they
- 1:25:49Speaker 6: and they beat the Rockies to so they've gone five
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: hundred since that eight no start. They're six and six
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: and they're playing the Rangers who have been red red hot,
- 1:25:58Speaker 6: and you have picked the rain Years right from the
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: start as being a legitimate not only division contender, but
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: American League contender. You've picked picked them right from the
- 1:26:07Speaker 6: start as being a team that could win the whole thing.
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: How do you see this weekend series in Arlington shaping up?
- 1:26:14Speaker 24: Well, you know, you can't win the division in April,
- 1:26:17Speaker 24: you can't win the World Series in April, but you
- 1:26:19Speaker 24: can lose it in April.
- 1:26:20Speaker 7: And the other thing is.
- 1:26:21Speaker 24: Is like when you get these series that are taking
- 1:26:24Speaker 24: place right now, like what the Cubs did to the Dodgers,
- 1:26:26Speaker 24: I don't think anything anybody saw that coming. And I
- 1:26:29Speaker 24: think it's a great measure for the Chicago Cubs. And
- 1:26:32Speaker 24: you look at the Dodgers and Rangers this weekend, I
- 1:26:34Speaker 24: think it's going to be a measure because I think
- 1:26:36Speaker 24: when you look around the league, it's really about two
- 1:26:39Speaker 24: maybe three teams purp the division that really have a
- 1:26:43Speaker 24: strong chance to win. And so when you're matching up
- 1:26:45Speaker 24: against those teams, even though it's April, you want to play.
- 1:26:48Speaker 7: Your best baseball.
- 1:26:49Speaker 24: But why you're playing these series, you're also saying, Okay,
- 1:26:52Speaker 24: should we play this team again.
- 1:26:54Speaker 7: In October, beat in the playoffs or in the World Series.
- 1:26:57Speaker 24: What are we going to have to do to improve
- 1:26:59Speaker 24: to beat these So they're they're not you know, Winter
- 1:27:02Speaker 24: Guy series, but they are a little bit of statement
- 1:27:04Speaker 24: series early in the season, just to find out as
- 1:27:07Speaker 24: you begin to separate the upper tier of clubs from
- 1:27:10Speaker 24: the lower tier clubs, like who's good? What are the
- 1:27:12Speaker 24: strengths of weeknesses of those teams? And what are we
- 1:27:14Speaker 24: gonna have to do to improve come July?
- 1:27:16Speaker 6: All Right, I know I've thought about you when I
- 1:27:19Speaker 6: read this story, because we talked about this a week ago,
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: the weird, freaky injuries that can happen to baseball players.
- 1:27:27Speaker 6: And then I read the story about Patrick Corbyn picking
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: up his first win of the season on Wednesday and
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: he almost didn't get to pitch because there was venom
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: from a bite on his foot. And he said the
- 1:27:40Speaker 6: quote yesterday was they said something bit me. I still
- 1:27:43Speaker 6: don't know what it was. I've never had anything like that.
- 1:27:46Speaker 6: It's super weird. Bruce Bochy said it was fifty to
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: fifty whether he would even pitch against the Angels, and
- 1:27:51Speaker 6: he went five to the third in the llowed one
- 1:27:53Speaker 6: run and he got the win over that the swelling
- 1:27:57Speaker 6: came up through a visible bite mark on his foot.
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: He said it was tolerable. He said it was really
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: bad in the morning. Just weird what what teams and
- 1:28:06Speaker 6: players go through, isn't it during the course of a season,
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: Not just the regular injuries that happen through playing the game,
- 1:28:13Speaker 6: but injuries away from the game.
- 1:28:15Speaker 24: Well, we'll think about in a given day. You know,
- 1:28:18Speaker 24: you wake up, you go to the ballpark, you play
- 1:28:21Speaker 24: a game, you're in a you're in a hotel room
- 1:28:23Speaker 24: that you're not familiar with. You're in ubers and and
- 1:28:26Speaker 24: buses that you're not familiar with. You don't know what's
- 1:28:28Speaker 24: on them. Your bags are moving all over hotel back
- 1:28:32Speaker 24: lobbies and and airport transports and and so you're constantly
- 1:28:36Speaker 24: intrensient and and you just never know what you're going
- 1:28:39Speaker 24: to run into. I mean, it's it happens all the time.
- 1:28:42Speaker 24: We're all find things in my bag or find things.
- 1:28:44Speaker 24: You all be on a on a sitting in a
- 1:28:46Speaker 24: plane and a spiral run across. I mean, it's just
- 1:28:49Speaker 24: because you're constantly in motion, your bags are constantly in motion,
- 1:28:52Speaker 24: You're constantly in unfamiliar environments. That that strange things seem
- 1:28:57Speaker 24: to happen. We're all sitting here waiting for to drop
- 1:29:00Speaker 24: down and right now everybody's prepared for that. I mean,
- 1:29:04Speaker 24: it's just you're constantly It's I said today, you're constantly
- 1:29:07Speaker 24: out of.
- 1:29:08Speaker 7: Adrilline rush because you just never know what's going to
- 1:29:10Speaker 7: happen next.
- 1:29:11Speaker 24: But but I think it's hilarious because you know, it's
- 1:29:14Speaker 24: the ways that the guys somehow get injured.
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: It's just it's it's crazy how it happens.
- 1:29:18Speaker 5: Yeah, no doubt about.
- 1:29:19Speaker 6: All right, So you know the restaurants see nashally better
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: than I do. But I but I do know that
- 1:29:24Speaker 6: if you're in the Oaklhom City area, if you got
- 1:29:26Speaker 6: a day game, you know, Mahogany is a good stake option.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: And I that's for sure.
- 1:29:30Speaker 24: We had a great breakfast at Hatch, and I think
- 1:29:32Speaker 24: that there.
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: You go, gotta have Nick's all right. Final thing here?
- 1:29:38Speaker 5: What would be? And it's early.
- 1:29:40Speaker 6: I preface all this by saying it's very very early
- 1:29:42Speaker 6: that the most teams have not even played twenty ballgames yet.
- 1:29:45Speaker 6: So but in your estimation, what would be the biggest
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: surprise to you by virtue of early struggles? Would it
- 1:29:55Speaker 6: be the Orioles at eight and ten, Would it be
- 1:29:57Speaker 6: the Astros at eight and ten, or to be the
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: Braves at five and thirteen.
- 1:30:03Speaker 24: Well, no question, it's the Braves. I don't think anybody
- 1:30:05Speaker 24: saw that one coming. And it was just such a
- 1:30:07Speaker 24: weird start for them to have to go to Arizona
- 1:30:10Speaker 24: and play those early exhibition games against the Cubs, and
- 1:30:13Speaker 24: then start out in San.
- 1:30:14Speaker 7: Diego and then go to La and just.
- 1:30:17Speaker 24: Not being fully healthy, their rotation not being as set
- 1:30:20Speaker 24: as possible, the know Zuna situation, you know, Brian Snicker
- 1:30:24Speaker 24: coming out and saying he may.
- 1:30:25Speaker 7: Not return for twenty six.
- 1:30:26Speaker 24: I think there's just kind of a lot of anticipation
- 1:30:29Speaker 24: around the organization right now. But they're ultra talented in
- 1:30:33Speaker 24: a very tough division, and that will and they will
- 1:30:36Speaker 24: settle in. I think with Houston, we talked about, you know,
- 1:30:39Speaker 24: you don't lose Alex Reregman and.
- 1:30:40Speaker 7: Kyle Tucker without digressing somewhat. Still a very talented team.
- 1:30:44Speaker 24: They definitely improved their future financially, and with a prospect
- 1:30:50Speaker 24: like Cam Smith coming back in that deal.
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: But Atlanta, that would be a biggest.
- 1:30:55Speaker 24: Surprise of all right now in Baltimore. You know, I
- 1:30:57Speaker 24: think that they just have to you know, they got
- 1:31:00Speaker 24: look at Uh, they have arguably one of the best
- 1:31:03Speaker 24: systems in baseball. I think they have to look at
- 1:31:05Speaker 24: the subtractions that they lost from that major league team,
- 1:31:08Speaker 24: and then you look at Boston what they did to
- 1:31:10Speaker 24: add to that major league team.
- 1:31:12Speaker 7: So you're you're gonna have to evaluate.
- 1:31:14Speaker 24: Your system and decide, you know, which way you're gonna
- 1:31:16Speaker 24: go to give up some prospects to try to get
- 1:31:19Speaker 24: back in the hunt with with the Boston and with
- 1:31:21Speaker 24: the Yankees and with Toronto the way they're playing right now.
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: No doubt about it.
- 1:31:24Speaker 6: Hey, uh, take cover if you need to over there,
- 1:31:28Speaker 6: and uh yeah, uh have that burger at Nicks, because
- 1:31:31Speaker 6: that's something else. As you and I both know, that's
- 1:31:33Speaker 6: that's that's an amazing Uh, that's an amazing uh burger. Hey,
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: I appreciate it. Gena, will visit again next week.
- 1:31:40Speaker 7: All right, Craig, have a great weekend.
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: You bet you too.
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: Uh we're talking about the Hamburger Nick Grill in Oklahoma City.
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: It's uh, it's it's quite a nice yeah. Yeah, you
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: had it, you had it. Yeah, So it's it's something else.
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: You went when you went up there to do the
- 1:31:57Speaker 6: express game, right, Yeah, I did recommendation he went to Knicks,
- 1:32:01Speaker 6: probably had several recommendations to go to Knicks.
- 1:32:04Speaker 5: But it's quite something.
- 1:32:07Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:32:08Speaker 6: Coming up, we're gonna hear from Anthony Hill and we'll
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: talk about that connective tissue I mentioned between long worn
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: baseball and football when we continue here from UFCU deush
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: Falkfield and thirteen under his own.
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: This should fire you up before we hear from Anthony Hill.
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: Like I said, there's a connective tissue between Longhorn baseball
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: and football. And if you followed it and follow the
- 1:32:29Speaker 6: recruiting of it very very well, you know all about
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: Joanah Williams.
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: Jonah, of course, was an all.
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: District baseball player, but he was a consensus five star
- 1:32:38Speaker 6: football prospect, rated the number one safety in the nation
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: in his class and the number six overall recruit in
- 1:32:47Speaker 6: his class, number eight overall prospect in the ESPN three hundred.
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: Tremendous football talent, but obviously a really good baseball player
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: as well, and he's been on the roster, hasn't played
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: much well. Tonight, Williams gets his first start on the
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: baseball field as a Texas Longhorn, he will be the
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: starting left fielder.
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: Die.
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: Remember the Longhorns really banged up right now, and Texas
- 1:33:12Speaker 6: has had a regular rotation of guys in left field,
- 1:33:15Speaker 6: including Adrian Rodriguez coming off the injury. But Adrian not
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: in the lineup with a left hander on the mound
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: for Auburn, at least not initially not in the lineup.
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: And Ethan Mendoza has to d age he is unable
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: to play the field position with his banged up shoulder
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: right now. So Jade de Plantier will start at second
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: base and over in left field where we've seen the
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: Plantier and Rodriguez and Easton Winfield and Tommy Farmer before
- 1:33:42Speaker 6: the injury. Of course, the fractured thumb for Max below
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: that moved Farmer over the right. Now Joan Williams will
- 1:33:51Speaker 6: get an opportunity, so he'll be the starting left fielder tonight.
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: Will Johan Williams before the Longhorns.
- 1:33:57Speaker 6: All right, let's talk some longer football and doing the
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: talking right now. The guy does the talking on the defense.
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: He is that defensive captain, the guy who has the
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: defense run through that central nervous system. Of course, the
- 1:34:10Speaker 6: preseason All American linebacker Anthony Hill.
- 1:34:13Speaker 16: First impressions of defense so far, Like, where are y'all?
- 1:34:15Speaker 16: Four week sits?
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: Man?
- 1:34:16Speaker 25: Well, we're a pretty young group, but I feel like
- 1:34:18Speaker 25: we got a lot of young guys putting it together
- 1:34:20Speaker 25: and getting better every day.
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: So that's really all we can ask for.
- 1:34:23Speaker 16: Who's a young guy that's really caught your eyes?
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: Mmm, Kobe Blackman having a good one.
- 1:34:28Speaker 25: They're not young guys, but warning, Terry Lan's been having
- 1:34:32Speaker 25: some good days.
- 1:34:34Speaker 16: I said. Brad Spens been fitting in with you guys.
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: Oh, he's been fitting in perfect.
- 1:34:38Speaker 25: He was coming off an injury, but he's been doing
- 1:34:40Speaker 25: real good since he came back. I mean he's been
- 1:34:41Speaker 25: playing a little bit of linebacker rushing off the is
- 1:34:43Speaker 25: so he's been doing a good job kind of doing
- 1:34:45Speaker 25: both and he's been making like a real impact on
- 1:34:47Speaker 25: the field.
- 1:34:47Speaker 10: Spring practice flit for you. What he been working on?
- 1:34:50Speaker 25: Mostly me, I just been kind of working on the details.
- 1:34:52Speaker 25: I mean, I already know I can make the big players,
- 1:34:54Speaker 25: but just trying to refine my game, work on the details,
- 1:34:57Speaker 25: full work, hand place men, little stuff to just make
- 1:35:00Speaker 25: sure I can take the next step.
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: Next year.
- 1:35:02Speaker 10: Is DTS a big party don't keep me. Yeah, you
- 1:35:05Speaker 10: make players.
- 1:35:05Speaker 18: How are the U g ts and transfers to along.
- 1:35:07Speaker 10: By those guys?
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: They've been doing good. They're learning. I mean it's a
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: new scheme, so.
- 1:35:10Speaker 25: They're just trying to get better every day and that's
- 1:35:12Speaker 25: really all we can ask for.
- 1:35:13Speaker 10: Cool, they're cool.
- 1:35:14Speaker 25: Oh yeah, even he's been having some good days. Man,
- 1:35:16Speaker 25: he's a he's a hard worker.
- 1:35:17Speaker 10: What's it like not that's all what you called into
- 1:35:20Speaker 10: that interview?
- 1:35:20Speaker 16: What is it like?
- 1:35:21Speaker 10: What's it like not being the young players?
- 1:35:23Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:35:23Speaker 25: I mean, uh, it's a little different. I mean, be
- 1:35:26Speaker 25: surreal J four, None of them guys here. I mean
- 1:35:28Speaker 25: I'm looking around in this me and like younga Like
- 1:35:30Speaker 25: it's like, okay, now we're the we're the older guys now.
- 1:35:33Speaker 25: I mean they've been doing a good job getting us there,
- 1:35:35Speaker 25: so now we're kind of prepared and ready to be
- 1:35:37Speaker 25: in the moment.
- 1:35:38Speaker 7: What even should that?
- 1:35:39Speaker 13: You know, it to a chance for young players and
- 1:35:41Speaker 13: young teams to take leadership.
- 1:35:43Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:35:43Speaker 10: Help Does that help you with this process as well?
- 1:35:46Speaker 16: Uh?
- 1:35:47Speaker 11: Like what do when you see the young guys so motivated?
- 1:35:50Speaker 10: Does that help the whole team?
- 1:35:51Speaker 7: Oh?
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: Yeah? Makes it makes it easier on us.
- 1:35:53Speaker 25: I mean, we don't have to force guys to work hard,
- 1:35:56Speaker 25: so they come in working hard. They can just integrate
- 1:35:58Speaker 25: in and right on in and just get the working.
- 1:36:00Speaker 18: What are you seeing from Trey Moore and fly back here?
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: He's been he's been progressing really good.
- 1:36:04Speaker 25: I mean, he came in playing off the ball this year,
- 1:36:06Speaker 25: so he's been doing really good working on that and
- 1:36:08Speaker 25: still getting a.
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: Little bit off the edge.
- 1:36:09Speaker 25: And so he's been doing a good job kind of
- 1:36:11Speaker 25: working both in working on stuff.
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: And getting better. So you, Spencer kind of like a
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: little combo you know, Yeah.
- 1:36:17Speaker 17: There's a pants rush one area that you want to
- 1:36:19Speaker 17: really emphasize this ball.
- 1:36:22Speaker 25: For you, Uh, just kind of work on a little
- 1:36:24Speaker 25: bit of everything. I mean, my I feel I can
- 1:36:26Speaker 25: get better in pass coverage, a little pass rust. So
- 1:36:27Speaker 25: I've just been trying to work on little stuff every
- 1:36:29Speaker 25: day just to try to get better.
- 1:36:31Speaker 10: And bel the old guy again.
- 1:36:32Speaker 16: Do you do you sort of.
- 1:36:34Speaker 19: Feel like you sort of like PK's on field guys
- 1:36:37Speaker 19: and years like, do you know, are you to the
- 1:36:39Speaker 19: point where you know what the tire front seven is
- 1:36:41Speaker 19: supposed to do?
- 1:36:42Speaker 10: Like you direct traffic.
- 1:36:44Speaker 11: If need be?
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I try to direct traffic here and there.
- 1:36:46Speaker 25: I mean, I try to let guys in the spring
- 1:36:48Speaker 25: kind of make mess up and make their mistakes, but
- 1:36:50Speaker 25: after the playoff try to be like, you know, you
- 1:36:52Speaker 25: did this and then that, because I want guys to
- 1:36:54Speaker 25: kind of learn by theyself instead of getting corrected on
- 1:36:56Speaker 25: the field and make the same mistakes again. So I
- 1:36:58Speaker 25: try to let guys mess up and try to correct
- 1:37:01Speaker 25: them after.
- 1:37:02Speaker 15: Certainly one on the team that's like you, somebody with
- 1:37:05Speaker 15: the intensity you know, IQ that that kind of goes
- 1:37:08Speaker 15: along with your.
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: Style play, like on the offense side, or just in general,
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: just in gentlemen.
- 1:37:14Speaker 25: I mean that's the one my twin uh I guess
- 1:37:18Speaker 25: Trey Watson and me. He comes to work every day,
- 1:37:20Speaker 25: uh wingo DeAndre Colin. I mean a lot of them guys.
- 1:37:23Speaker 25: We come with the same intensity and we come to
- 1:37:25Speaker 25: work every day.
- 1:37:26Speaker 9: And you know, last year at this time, Start and
- 1:37:28Speaker 9: Kelvin Banks, they're pretty open like this, Parke Kelln last year. Yeah,
- 1:37:32Speaker 9: are you treating this as your last season coming up
- 1:37:34Speaker 9: that ut considering you're gonna an Austen since spring.
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: I'm just coming to work every day.
- 1:37:38Speaker 25: He's working hard, and I think about that at the
- 1:37:40Speaker 25: end of the season, and.
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I was up there. It was what was cool?
- 1:37:44Speaker 16: What was that about?
- 1:37:45Speaker 18: How did you get invited? Who else will?
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: It was like a symposium. It was me and Malik Muhammad.
- 1:37:49Speaker 25: We kind of learned about some of the draft process
- 1:37:51Speaker 25: and it was a it was a fun experience. I
- 1:37:53Speaker 25: met up with Jady and some of them guys wants
- 1:37:55Speaker 25: to combine. It was a it was a cool experience.
- 1:37:57Speaker 14: In that interview on the Pivot, you mentioned how you
- 1:38:00Speaker 14: suggested the young guys to find an older guy to
- 1:38:02Speaker 14: flash onto. Yeah, so now that since you're one of
- 1:38:04Speaker 14: those older guys, is there a younger guy that's kind
- 1:38:05Speaker 14: of lashing.
- 1:38:06Speaker 16: On you and following your route?
- 1:38:07Speaker 25: Like pretty much the whole linebacker crew, we all kind
- 1:38:09Speaker 25: of help each other a lot, like bo and a
- 1:38:11Speaker 25: lot of the let me see, that's a good question,
- 1:38:14Speaker 25: Like pretty much, both both me and him. We help
- 1:38:16Speaker 25: him a lot and try to push him through and
- 1:38:17Speaker 25: help him get better.
- 1:38:18Speaker 10: Every players talk to you.
- 1:38:19Speaker 13: But when we asked about like the players talking having
- 1:38:22Speaker 13: fun in after y'all mentioned Colin, like, yeah, get it
- 1:38:24Speaker 13: get old.
- 1:38:25Speaker 10: Or are you like pretty all every time when he's
- 1:38:28Speaker 10: kind of churchy.
- 1:38:29Speaker 25: I mean, we kind of have fun on the field
- 1:38:30Speaker 25: all together, so I mean we all compete with all
- 1:38:32Speaker 25: having fun and there's not really nobody that's just overdoing
- 1:38:35Speaker 25: too much. So it's all competitive. So it's it's pretty.
- 1:38:37Speaker 14: Easy that competition though, Like during practice, how has heart
- 1:38:41Speaker 14: kind of change that dynamics of off of stefense and
- 1:38:43Speaker 14: talking chirping at each other.
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: I mean it's pretty competitive after I.
- 1:38:46Speaker 25: Mean we go to work every day, like DJ Campbell,
- 1:38:48Speaker 25: they're always talking Nato, We're always talking with each other,
- 1:38:50Speaker 25: poking fun. So it's been pretty fun practice. Oh, he's
- 1:38:54Speaker 25: coming really good. I mean even working on his like
- 1:38:57Speaker 25: passing drops and working on block destruction. He been coming
- 1:38:59Speaker 25: along really good, working some sam, working a little bit
- 1:39:01Speaker 25: of everything.
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: So he's been having a good spring.
- 1:39:03Speaker 16: Who's been winning the most of the scrimmage of the offense.
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: Both both been winning.
- 1:39:08Speaker 25: Everybody been winning, everybody's getting better, everybody's winning.
- 1:39:12Speaker 13: I think the pivot of the Ohio State scream Player, Yeah,
- 1:39:15Speaker 13: is that something that the program like, is that playing
- 1:39:18Speaker 13: the TV's back there or is that something that's brought
- 1:39:20Speaker 13: up now that you're gonna play it?
- 1:39:21Speaker 10: Then were born?
- 1:39:22Speaker 25: I mean we brought it up one or two times,
- 1:39:24Speaker 25: but we're moving on. We're ready to go to the
- 1:39:26Speaker 25: next year. And we knowed about the play. We looked
- 1:39:28Speaker 25: at and discussed it, talked about it, but we moved
- 1:39:29Speaker 25: on and we're ready to focus on the next year
- 1:39:31Speaker 25: and whatever.
- 1:39:32Speaker 16: You can see it from some of these younger running backs.
- 1:39:34Speaker 25: Uh Simon been having a pretty good spring. Jared Gibson,
- 1:39:37Speaker 25: they've been having really good springs. They both run really
- 1:39:39Speaker 25: hard and making good cousin reading stuff right, So I
- 1:39:41Speaker 25: feel like they're gonna be two.
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: Great players, different than the last year.
- 1:39:47Speaker 25: I feel like we're a little younger, but we have
- 1:39:49Speaker 25: a lot of juice. I mean a lot of guys competing,
- 1:39:51Speaker 25: a lot of guys having fun. So I feel like
- 1:39:52Speaker 25: we're gonna have a little bit more juice and we're
- 1:39:54Speaker 25: gonna be, of course a younger team.
- 1:39:55Speaker 18: The young DT Spent Justice Terry Josiah Sharman.
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: They've been doing good. I mean, they getting better every day.
- 1:40:02Speaker 25: They're so young, so you can't really just say that
- 1:40:04Speaker 25: this and this is the first ten practices. You don't
- 1:40:06Speaker 25: really want to judge somebody up ten times. But they're
- 1:40:08Speaker 25: working hard and getting better.
- 1:40:10Speaker 18: At Alex January, Oh.
- 1:40:11Speaker 25: He's doing he's doing a good too. He's been working
- 1:40:13Speaker 25: with the ones and twos. He's been doing a great job.
- 1:40:15Speaker 17: Individual goals that you want to yet next year, I.
- 1:40:18Speaker 25: Just want to win the national championship. That's not really
- 1:40:20Speaker 25: all I'm focused on right now.
- 1:40:22Speaker 6: Well, that's a good focus, uh for Anthony Hill and
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: his defensive Makestab as well as the offense as well.
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: And that's a pretty much universal sentiment from all of them,
- 1:40:31Speaker 6: focusing on day to day getting better and competing for
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: an SEC championship and a national championship. We'll be back
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: to wrap up today and the week here on AM
- 1:40:42Speaker 6: thirteen under the someon
