- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we're talking about comfort items, and comfort items
- 0:36are something that's incredibly important to our wellbeing.
- 0:39And often it is very, very overlooked for what I consider
- 0:44to be toxic comfort items where we'll swap things out that we
- 0:48know are, you know, not good for us other like drinking like too
- 0:53much alcohol. Indulging in other substances.
- 0:57That may not be great for us because they're a comfort item
- 1:00to us, but the truth of the matter is that we have, all of
- 1:05us have basic, basic things that we know and we remember because,
- 1:09listen, we were all taught these things in school.
- 1:11Things you see, things you feel, things you hear, things you
- 1:14smell, things you taste. These are our senses, and our
- 1:17senses actually drive. Us in a huge, tremendous way.
- 1:22So when you start to pay attention to the fact that your
- 1:25senses are so very, very important and you can utilize
- 1:30those in such tremendous ways for your greater good, it
- 1:36becomes an asset that absolutely has to be worked, should be
- 1:39worked in the best ways possible.
- 1:41So let me give you an example. I ought if you follow me on
- 1:44social media, you know I am big. Visually, I'm a huge.
- 1:49Photographer absolutely love taking pictures of everything.
- 1:52So I use my photography as moments of where I know I was
- 1:56present in the moment. I love to take pictures of
- 1:59nature. It's like that is just my thing,
- 2:03whether it's the chickens, whether it's birds, flowers,
- 2:07plants. I don't care what it is.
- 2:10I'm finding something every day and I'm taking pictures of it to
- 2:13the point where I've probably got about.
- 2:15I think I'm up to like 90,000 plus in my iPhoto library and
- 2:19while that may sound daunting and overwhelming for me, when I
- 2:23look through it, I'm like, oh, I remember walking there oh, I
- 2:26remember seeing that lighting hitting something a certain way
- 2:29this past weekend I was out and I've got this huge rain garden
- 2:35that we created and. All of these milkweeds that I
- 2:38got from seed, and it's taking a couple years now to actually get
- 2:42them to bloom in the intensity that they are.
- 2:45But Oh my gosh, everything is just blooming, blooming,
- 2:49blooming. And the butterflies that are out
- 2:52there are tremendous. So many butterflies are there.
- 2:55So I'm very, very excited because I see all the
- 2:58butterflies, then I see the lighting that's happening and
- 3:00I'm like, Oh my gosh, OK, I need to really pay attention to the
- 3:03lighting. And I run my out there with my
- 3:06camera and I start videoing and I start, you know, taking
- 3:09pictures of it. And it was such a great sense of
- 3:12comfort for me. It just made me think, wow, OK,
- 3:15these are things that I really need to remind everybody of.
- 3:18So again, this comes back to simple, simple stuff like, OK, I
- 3:24do it with what I see. You might do it with what you
- 3:27feel. So it's like the warm breeze
- 3:29going to the ocean, going to the beach, going, hiking going.
- 3:33You know, feeling the dirt when you because you can feel in many
- 3:37different ways. Like, I also get this when I
- 3:38love to go in the garden and dig, because digging in the dirt
- 3:42makes me just tremendously happy and I love doing it.
- 3:46So there's that. Then you've got the whole aspect
- 3:50of things. You hear music.
- 3:51Well, we all know the power that music has over us.
- 3:54So that in itself, tremendous, tremendous, tremendous to be
- 3:58just. Going ahead and saying, OK, I'm
- 4:01going to focus on putting together my soundtrack that just
- 4:04makes me feel amazing every time I hear it.
- 4:07Things you smell now. Essential oils.
- 4:09OK, if you're not into essential oils, I highly recommend you
- 4:13find somebody that you can hook up with that can help you with
- 4:17essential oil stuff because that Oh my gosh, just having a smell
- 4:21of something can shift you immediately and take you to a
- 4:25whole different place than you ever thought you would go to.
- 4:28So keep in mind those are. Big one.
- 4:30And of course, taste. So we all know if you if you
- 4:34ever had anybody in your life that made you cookies, and the
- 4:38smell of the warm cookies coming out of the oven, as well as the
- 4:42taste of them, wow, that just blows your mind regularly, and
- 4:47I'll tell you. It's a weakness for a lot of us.
- 4:50That's how we end up eating things.
- 4:52We don't necessarily want to eat, but we like it.
- 4:55So it's a question of OK, comfort food, what can I do for
- 4:59myself, for comfort foods? What can I do for myself, for
- 5:02comfort taste. So for me, one of those things
- 5:04is coffee. I would always go with my dad to
- 5:07have coffee at Dunkin' Donuts. And I will tell you that Dunkin'
- 5:11Donuts has this very special place in my heart.
- 5:14And every time I walk in, the smell immediately along with.
- 5:18The taste of the coffee and the warmth of the coffee.
- 5:21It hits a lot of different Marks and it makes us feel comforted.
- 5:27So the point is, think of the things that bring you comfort.
- 5:31Find a list of healthy things that you can make for yourself
- 5:35and then keep those out so that you can have that as a regular
- 5:39resource to say okay, what can I do right now?
- 5:41Remember, work with all five of your senses as much as you can,
- 5:45and amazing things will happen. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:49you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:52Bye.
