- 0:00Speaker 1: It is time for our weekend sport wrap up, and again,
- 0:03Speaker 1: Smith's sports reporter and the voice of rugby here at Newstalks,
- 0:06Speaker 1: joins me. Good morning, Good morning, SALGP thought Auckland looked fantastic.
- 0:10Speaker 2: It did. It looked out standing. Everyone got in behind it.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I mean, this is the city of sales. The grand
- 0:15Speaker 2: stand was packed out. The racing, the sailing wasn't too bad.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Sating was pretty good as well. I mean it's so quick,
- 0:22Speaker 2: isn't it. Nine ten minute races. I mean that's shorter
- 0:24Speaker 2: than you know, seven's game. You think about those old
- 0:26Speaker 2: America's Cup races where they lasted for three four hours,
- 0:29Speaker 2: and now we're down to ten minutes sort of mini
- 0:31Speaker 2: races on the water. It's a quick concept. You're in
- 0:34Speaker 2: and out. Look. I thought it was. It looked spectacular
- 0:37Speaker 2: on the Auckland waterfront, and you know, bring it on
- 0:40Speaker 2: more of the same. It sounds like they're negotiations to
- 0:42Speaker 2: lock it away for a few more years too.
- 0:44Speaker 1: What was fun about it was you had kind of
- 0:45Speaker 1: a different winner each race.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't.
- 0:47Speaker 1: It wasn't kind of set in stone how how it
- 0:50Speaker 1: was all going to turn out.
- 0:50Speaker 2: That's right, and some races I think you had on
- 0:53Speaker 2: the first day. Germany didn't shot up for one of
- 0:55Speaker 2: them because they had to sort something out. And when
- 0:57Speaker 2: you've got four races a ninety minute window, you know
- 1:00Speaker 2: you don't have time to a pair of things. Canada
- 1:02Speaker 2: went in there for a bit yesterday, so and Australia.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You know, it kind of went to the best overall
- 1:07Speaker 2: team over you know, the seven also races we had
- 1:11Speaker 2: over the course of the weekend, so there was some
- 1:13Speaker 2: consistency there. But I mean, it's just quick fight. But
- 1:15Speaker 2: if you don't get the start right in those races,
- 1:17Speaker 2: you're pretty much done for Rn't nine minutes isn't a
- 1:20Speaker 2: long a lot of time to crawl back a dodgy start.
- 1:22Speaker 1: So his only team managed to crawl back quite a
- 1:25Speaker 1: few places, just not quite enough at times. Absolutely, Hey, Ozzie,
- 1:28Speaker 1: Open of courses in full swing.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It is Djokovic. But a controversy last night. Didn't do
- 1:33Speaker 2: that traditional Oncurd interview at the Aussie Open they do
- 1:35Speaker 2: when Jimmy Curry comes and interviewed the players. And basically
- 1:38Speaker 2: this all seems out to Friday night, when one of
- 1:40Speaker 2: the Aussie broadcast is basically had a crack at the
- 1:42Speaker 2: Serbian fans on are They were chanting at him, and
- 1:45Speaker 2: he decided to give it back to them in spades
- 1:47Speaker 2: and told Djokovic, you know, he's not welcome in Australia.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Blah blah blah. Now Djokovic somewhey got back to say,
- 1:52Speaker 2: somehow got back to him. It's all over social media,
- 1:54Speaker 2: so he's refused to do the on court interviews. But
- 1:56Speaker 2: he was very, very good last night. This is a
- 1:59Speaker 2: big match tomorrow night. I suspect it will be Tuesday
- 2:01Speaker 2: night quarter final him versus Carlos Alcarez. Think of that
- 2:04Speaker 2: in the quarter finals in the Grand Slam Fundland itself.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So that's a huge match. But Djokovic and alcare Is
- 2:10Speaker 2: both winning through last night with a tinger controversy as well,
- 2:12Speaker 2: and down one feast playing tonight the ASP Classic. And
- 2:16Speaker 2: how good's he been number four yesterday?
- 2:18Speaker 1: And how delightful was he when he when he won.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Just gorgeous, outstanding, And you know he can barely she
- 2:24Speaker 2: just shuffles along the court. He can barely move, but
- 2:27Speaker 2: here he is taking.
- 2:29Speaker 1: It might move better than you and I as a
- 2:32Speaker 1: professional tennis player, and really quickly. Good to see Auckland
- 2:35Speaker 1: C back and form.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yes, I've been a bit wobbly himn't they but managed
- 2:38Speaker 2: to get that one of the previous leaders in Melbourne City,
- 2:41Speaker 2: you know, three goals in the space about sixteen minutes
- 2:44Speaker 2: in the first spell. Big crowd again Saturday, I was
- 2:46Speaker 2: huge in an Auckland sal GP on one side of
- 2:48Speaker 2: the city. Auckland f C getting a decent old crowd
- 2:51Speaker 2: there and they've got a big, big wig as well
- 2:53Speaker 2: midweek game against Adelaide as well Wednesday night.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So thank you so much, Elliott, appreciate that. Keen to
- 2:58Speaker 1: hear you what you thought about the cell GP. You're
- 3:00Speaker 1: most welcome to text me on ninety two ninety two.
- 3:02Speaker 1: A few people text me yesterday on the Sunday session
- 3:04Speaker 1: to say that actually they found the graphics and things
- 3:06Speaker 1: on the television coverage quite hard to follow. That it
- 3:10Speaker 1: all just you know, it all happened in such a
- 3:11Speaker 1: small space and it was it was all just a
- 3:14Speaker 1: bit clustered and they weren't sure what was going on.
- 3:18Speaker 1: How did you find it? I haven't watched a lot
- 3:20Speaker 1: of sale GP. This was the opportunity for them to
- 3:22Speaker 1: grab me and get me to come back and watch
- 3:24Speaker 1: more and I Think I will ninety two. Ninety two
- 3:28Speaker 1: is our text number for more from Early Edition with
