- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo, episode 45! Luna: Hey Lucas! Ready for another one. Lucas: Absolutely. You know, I was thinking about our last few episodes — prepositions, months, clothes. Today, let's get physical. Luna: Ohh, like body parts? Lucas: Exactly! Body parts. Super useful when you're at the doctor, or just describing something. Let's start with the head. Luna: Kichwa, right? I remember that from somewhere. Lucas: Yes! Kichwa. Head. Say it with me: kichwa. Luna: Kichwa. Lucas: Good. Now, can you point to your kichwa? Luna: Like this? Hiki ni kichwa changu. Lucas: Oh, I love that! You used 'hiki ni kichwa changu' — 'this is my head'. Perfect! So kichwa, head. Let's say it again: kichwa. Luna: Kichwa. Lucas: Now, next up: arm or hand. In Swahili, 'mkono' covers both arm and hand. So if you say 'mkono', it could be your hand or your arm. Context helps. Luna: Mkono. So 'hiki ni mkono wangu'? Lucas: Exactly! Hiki ni mkono wangu — this is my arm. But careful: for 'hand' we also say mkono. So you can say 'mkono wangu' for my hand. Let's practice: mkono. Luna: Mkono. Lucas: Great. Now leg or foot: 'mguu'. Same idea — it covers both leg and foot. So 'mguu wangu' is my leg or my foot. Luna: Mguu. That's a fun word. Mguu. Lucas: Mguu. Good. Now let's do a quick review: kichwa, mkono, mguu. Luna: Kichwa, mkono, mguu. Got it. Lucas: Now let's add two more: eyes and mouth. Eyes are 'macho'. Luna: Macho. That's like 'macho' in Spanish! Easy to remember. Lucas: Right! And mouth is 'mdomo'. Luna: Mdomo. Hmm, that one's new. Mdomo. Lucas: Mdomo. Let's say them all together: kichwa, mkono, mguu, macho, mdomo. Luna: Kichwa, mkono, mguu, macho, mdomo. Wow, that's a lot at once. Lucas: You're doing great. Let's do a little scene. Imagine you're at the doctor and you have a headache. You can say: 'Kichwa changu kinauma' — my head hurts. But we haven't learned 'kinauma' yet. Let's keep it simple: 'Hiki ni kichwa changu'. Luna: Hiki ni kichwa changu. So pointing to my head. Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to say 'this is my hand': 'Hiki ni mkono wangu'. Luna: Hiki ni mkono wangu. Lucas: Let's try 'hiki ni mguu wangu'. Luna: Hiki ni mguu wangu. Pointing to my leg. Lucas: Perfect. Now for eyes and mouth, we use 'haya' and 'huu'? Actually, 'macho' is plural, so we say 'haya ni macho yangu' — these are my eyes. And 'huu ni mdomo wangu' — this is my mouth. Luna: Haya ni macho yangu. Huu ni mdomo wangu. Lucas: Excellent! Let's practice the words again. Repeat after me: kichwa. Luna: Kichwa. Lucas: Mkono. Luna: Mkono. Lucas: Mguu. Luna: Mguu. Lucas: Macho. Luna: Macho. Lucas: Mdomo. Luna: Mdomo. Lucas: Awesome. Now let's do a quick game. I'll say the English, you say the Swahili. Head. Luna: Kichwa. Lucas: Hand. Luna: Mkono. Lucas: Leg. Luna: Mguu. Lucas: Eyes. Luna: Macho. Lucas: Mouth. Luna: Mdomo. Lucas: You nailed it! And a quick story: yesterday I bumped my knee — 'mguu wangu' — but I said 'mguu wangu unauma' and my friend knew exactly what I meant. Luna: See, useful already. So if I want to say 'my head', I say 'kichwa changu'. Lucas: Right. And 'my hand' — 'mkono wangu'. 'My leg' — 'mguu wangu'. 'My eyes' — 'macho yangu'. 'My mouth' — 'mdomo wangu'. Notice the possessive changes a bit with vowels. But we'll cover that more later. Luna: Good. So today we have kichwa, mkono, mguu, macho, mdomo. I think I've got them. Lucas: Let's do one more round. Repeat: kichwa. Luna: Kichwa. Lucas: Mkono. Luna: Mkono. Lucas: Mguu. Luna: Mguu. Lucas: Macho. Luna: Macho. Lucas: Mdomo. Luna: Mdomo. Lucas: Wonderful. And that's a wrap for today. Practice pointing to your body parts and saying them in Swahili. Luna: I will. Thanks Lucas! And thanks to Fexingo for this fun lesson. Lucas: Yes, keep learning with Fexingo. See you next time for more Swahili! Luna: Bye bye!
