- 0:18Speaker 1: It's an I live for this feeling hype chat today,
- 0:22Speaker 1: So hopefully you're listening to this as you're leaping out
- 0:25Speaker 1: of bed and you're going to apply this to your
- 0:27Speaker 1: day now. I personally apply this to so many things
- 0:31Speaker 1: in my life. If you haven't already heard me speak
- 0:33Speaker 1: about this kind of phrase that I use, I've spoken
- 0:37Speaker 1: about it a little bit, but it's something that I
- 0:39Speaker 1: use all the time to change my perspective on how
- 0:42Speaker 1: I am perceiving a situation. You can turn a situation
- 0:45Speaker 1: from being frustrating into being funny or enjoyable. You can
- 0:49Speaker 1: turn something into being almost a source of pain into
- 0:54Speaker 1: a source of excitement. Okay, not with everything, but for
- 0:57Speaker 1: a lot of things, and in particular for the things
- 0:59Speaker 1: that you have control over. That's the main time that
- 1:03Speaker 1: you can apply this sentence to. It's a little bit
- 1:06Speaker 1: harder when it's someone that you're having to deal with
- 1:08Speaker 1: who's really impossible, but even then you could apply it
- 1:11Speaker 1: depending on how you can really change your perspective around
- 1:15Speaker 1: a situation. But basically, changing how you look at something
- 1:18Speaker 1: or changing how you perceive something will completely change your
- 1:22Speaker 1: experience of the event, and it's also going to change
- 1:25Speaker 1: how you approach that exact same event next time. Okay.
- 1:30Speaker 1: So you're either going to approach something with dread and resistance,
- 1:34Speaker 1: or you can approach it feeling with neutrality, or you
- 1:38Speaker 1: can approach it with eagerness and excitement. Okay. So you've
- 1:41Speaker 1: got a whole spectrum of ways that you can approach something. Now,
- 1:44Speaker 1: how you experience something today is going to paint how
- 1:47Speaker 1: you approach that thing or how you approach that interaction tomorrow. Okay. Now,
- 1:52Speaker 1: another really good thing to think about is that you
- 1:55Speaker 1: can't focus intensely. You can't put conscious focused attention on
- 2:01Speaker 1: two things at once. Your conscious attention can only be
- 2:04Speaker 1: given to one thing at a time. You can't be
- 2:06Speaker 1: excited and stressed at the exact same time. You can
- 2:10Speaker 1: kind of bounce between the two throughout the span of
- 2:15Speaker 1: an hour or throughout the day, but they can't happen
- 2:18Speaker 1: at the exact same time. Okay. That's why laughter. They
- 2:22Speaker 1: always say laughter is the best medicine in the sense
- 2:25Speaker 1: that laughter is a form of respite for you. It
- 2:27Speaker 1: is your it's like a relief, It is your escape
- 2:30Speaker 1: from what you are experiencing in that moment, even if
- 2:33Speaker 1: only for a moment. It actually allows you to escape
- 2:37Speaker 1: that thing. Okay. It wipes your mind off the current stress, fears, sadness, pain,
- 2:43Speaker 1: all of that. Okay. So knowing this, you can use
- 2:46Speaker 1: this as a tool for many things in your life
- 2:49Speaker 1: and many things in your day. You don't have to think,
- 2:51Speaker 1: all right, I have to change my mood for the
- 2:53Speaker 1: rest of the day. That's a huge task and it's
- 2:55Speaker 1: pretty impossible to do so. But if you think, I
- 2:58Speaker 1: can't think of two things intense at the one time,
- 3:02Speaker 1: So how many times can I try and quickly switch
- 3:04Speaker 1: my focus, even if just for a moment, to a
- 3:07Speaker 1: different feeling? Okay? And then you want to think, how
- 3:10Speaker 1: many times can I do that during the day? How
- 3:12Speaker 1: many times can I fill up these with these little,
- 3:13Speaker 1: tiny moments, And before you know it, you'll have a
- 3:16Speaker 1: lot more control over what you're feeling. It's not to
- 3:18Speaker 1: say you're not going to feel a bad thought, but
- 3:20Speaker 1: it's going to say that you can intercept it and
- 3:23Speaker 1: quickly try and intervene or replace it, even for a moment, okay,
- 3:27Speaker 1: So that way things don't get so intense, So that
- 3:29Speaker 1: way you don't end up spiraling. All these good things
- 3:32Speaker 1: can come from that. Now, for me, Like I said,
- 3:36Speaker 1: one of my mantras is I live for this feeling.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So basically, it's the idea that when I'm up against
- 3:41Speaker 1: a challenge or a fee or something I haven't done before,
- 3:45Speaker 1: or a physically demanding task where I'm working out, you know, running, training, whatever,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I then turn my focus around from being focused on
- 3:53Speaker 1: discomfort to being about something else. So, for example, if
- 3:57Speaker 1: I reach the challenging point in a way workout and
- 4:01Speaker 1: I tell myself, this is I live for this feeling.
- 4:04Speaker 1: This is what I came here for. I came here
- 4:06Speaker 1: to be out of breath, I came here to work.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I came here to get my body moving, to get
- 4:10Speaker 1: to a point where I can push through something in
- 4:13Speaker 1: order to improve. When I get to that point where
- 4:15Speaker 1: it's really difficult, I think I might have not been
- 4:19Speaker 1: here before. This might have been the furthest I've run,
- 4:21Speaker 1: or this might have been, you know, the best I've performed,
- 4:24Speaker 1: or this might have been the best I've done this week.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be ever, and I'm fucking here
- 4:29Speaker 1: for it. I'm fucking living for this feeling. Not Oh,
- 4:33Speaker 1: starting to hurt now, Why did I bother coming? Oh
- 4:35Speaker 1: my god, I'm a failure, Oh, I can't get through this.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Even if I end up failing out of the exercise,
- 4:39Speaker 1: I'm like, that's what I'm here for. I came here
- 4:41Speaker 1: because today I wanted this kind of workout. This is
- 4:45Speaker 1: what I'm here for. I live for this feeling. And
- 4:47Speaker 1: even if I fail out of the exercise, I then
- 4:50Speaker 1: look at it and I almost laugh. I think, yes, Okay,
- 4:53Speaker 1: this is what I'm here for. I fucking live for
- 4:54Speaker 1: this feeling. I came here to do this, and now
- 4:57Speaker 1: that I've failed, I've obviously pushed myself and today I
- 4:59Speaker 1: wanted to do that. Okay, And now you don't have
- 5:21Speaker 1: to look at it from a physically demanding point of view,
- 5:23Speaker 1: because sometimes physical exertion is easier than emotional exertion, but
- 5:27Speaker 1: you can do it. Like when I'm really stressed at
- 5:29Speaker 1: work and I'm talking really stressed. Everything's annoying me. I've
- 5:33Speaker 1: got all these emails that I've got to get to,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I've got meetings, I've got people that I'm dealing with,
- 5:36Speaker 1: situations that I'm dealing with, some positive, some negative. I
- 5:40Speaker 1: sometimes pause and think, alexis I live for this feeling
- 5:44Speaker 1: while I am frustrated, look back and think of when
- 5:48Speaker 1: you would have dreamed for this to be what you're
- 5:50Speaker 1: doing with your time or what you're doing with your life.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And even if you're not in your dream job, you
- 5:55Speaker 1: can look further back and think, remember when you were
- 5:57Speaker 1: in high school and you were desperate to get a job,
- 6:00Speaker 1: and now you fucking got something where you have responsibility
- 6:03Speaker 1: and people relying on you. Fucking live for that. Like
- 6:05Speaker 1: it's a bit frustrating and annoying, but that's fucking awesome
- 6:09Speaker 1: that you're doing something like that. And it doesn't mean
- 6:11Speaker 1: you have to stay in this position forever, but change
- 6:13Speaker 1: your perspective, being like I created this and I can
- 6:16Speaker 1: grow it or change it or whatever, but it's awesome
- 6:19Speaker 1: that I'm in this position. I live for this. Okay,
- 6:23Speaker 1: you can apply this to so many things. When something's
- 6:26Speaker 1: really hard to comprehend and I'm trying to work something out,
- 6:29Speaker 1: whether it be at UNI or trying to fucking work
- 6:32Speaker 1: out how to pay superannuation, I think, fuck, this is hard.
- 6:36Speaker 1: But once I get through this, I'm going to be
- 6:38Speaker 1: smarter than when I got here. I'm one up on
- 6:41Speaker 1: the Alexis of yesterday. Right. I love coming across a
- 6:45Speaker 1: challenge because it means again, is on the other side
- 6:48Speaker 1: of that challenge. So instead of thinking, oh, challenge, I'm
- 6:50Speaker 1: going to feel like a failure, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye. I
- 6:53Speaker 1: think there's something on the other end of this, and
- 6:55Speaker 1: I might not get there today, but I'm working on
- 6:57Speaker 1: it today. And that's fucking exciting to come across something
- 7:01Speaker 1: that you have no idea about and to think that
- 7:03Speaker 1: in a matter of hours or weeks or maybe a
- 7:05Speaker 1: bit longer, you'll be at a point where you can
- 7:07Speaker 1: really comprehend that topic or that subject. That's amazing. And
- 7:11Speaker 1: when you get into that headspace, you release the resistance. Okay,
- 7:16Speaker 1: because a lot of the time the reason we can't
- 7:17Speaker 1: get through something is because we are resisting the discomfort
- 7:21Speaker 1: of what that represents. Okay, But once you get your
- 7:25Speaker 1: head around that idea of like, this is fucking awesome.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm here for this. I'm here for the challenge because
- 7:29Speaker 1: I know it's going to be a challenge, not expecting
- 7:31Speaker 1: it to be easy. I know it's what I'm up against,
- 7:33Speaker 1: but I'm here for it. And if you think on
- 7:35Speaker 1: the other end of this, there's a gain, and then
- 7:39Speaker 1: you're able to be like, Okay, I'm releasing the resistance.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I'm not expecting it to be something that it's not.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I'm here to accept what it is. You then have
- 7:49Speaker 1: less stress, and you're more likely to do better at
- 7:52Speaker 1: the task because you aren't blocking yourself from doing the task.
- 7:57Speaker 1: We believe what we tell ourselves. So if you say
- 7:59Speaker 1: this is going to be so hard, this is going
- 8:00Speaker 1: to be so hard, I'm not getting this. This is fucked.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I hate this subject. I hate it. I hate it,
- 8:04Speaker 1: I hate it. What do you think is going to
- 8:06Speaker 1: happen when you sit down and start working on that task.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You're going to be so stressed. You're gonna have all
- 8:11Speaker 1: this quarters off floating around. It's going to impact your
- 8:14Speaker 1: ability to reason and focus. However, if you turn around
- 8:17Speaker 1: and think this is a challenge, let's grab a glass
- 8:21Speaker 1: of water, a coffee, whatever it is. I'm gonna sit
- 8:22Speaker 1: down and I'm just gonna apply myself for two hours
- 8:25Speaker 1: to this challenge. Doesn't matter what I get done. I
- 8:28Speaker 1: fucking hear for it. I lift for this feeling. I
- 8:30Speaker 1: live to be challenged, because why else are you on
- 8:32Speaker 1: this planet? You want to grow. You want to be
- 8:35Speaker 1: able to look back and say I did that, I
- 8:36Speaker 1: completed that, I learned that I'm wiser now because of that. Okay,
- 8:40Speaker 1: you don't want to sit there passively like some fucking
- 8:43Speaker 1: rock on the road. No, we're here for this feeling. Okay,
- 8:48Speaker 1: now today, what will your focus be around? What can
- 8:53Speaker 1: you apply this to? Okay, and think when I'm doing
- 8:57Speaker 1: this thing, I can only think or feel one thing
- 8:59Speaker 1: in in tensely at a time. So every time you
- 9:03Speaker 1: start to spiral, when you're approaching something, ask yourself, can
- 9:06Speaker 1: I change this? How can I live for this feeling?
- 9:08Speaker 1: Can I change this situation? Can I turn around how
- 9:12Speaker 1: I am experiencing this exact situation? And then try and
- 9:16Speaker 1: do it? Guys, thank you so much, Love you somt
- 9:18Speaker 1: as always remembered. Bekind to yourself, be kind to your brain,
- 9:21Speaker 1: don't take shit from anyone, and especially don't take shit
- 9:24Speaker 1: from yourself. Dunker
