- 1:06Speaker 1: your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since my friend and
- 1:10Speaker 1: mentor Sean mcdonnaughh I was in Boston to broadcast the
- 1:13Speaker 1: Fenway Bowl over the weekend and had the opportunity to
- 1:16Speaker 1: have dinner with one of my closest friends dating back
- 1:19Speaker 1: to our days as students at Syracuse University ESPN, Sean mcdonnaugh.
- 1:25Speaker 1: If you conducted a poll of working play by play announcers,
- 1:28Speaker 1: the people that do it for a living, and ask
- 1:31Speaker 1: them to name the best in the business, Sean would
- 1:34Speaker 1: be at or near the top of the list. Nobody
- 1:37Speaker 1: in the industry combines humor and information better than Sean.
- 1:41Speaker 1: My wife Peg describes him as the funniest person in
- 1:44Speaker 1: any room that he's in, and that quick wit is
- 1:48Speaker 1: on full display whenever he's behind the mic. But Sean
- 1:51Speaker 1: has all the skills that make up a great broadcaster.
- 1:54Speaker 1: He's an outstanding storyteller, understand strategy and can explain it
- 1:59Speaker 1: to the view has a flair for the dramatic, and
- 2:03Speaker 1: always nails the big moments. I had some great professors
- 2:06Speaker 1: at Syracuse, but I learned more from Sean than any
- 2:10Speaker 1: of them. He's been a great mentor and an amazing friend.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Now let's get to the highlights from Sunday's epic comeback
- 2:19Speaker 1: in Tampa. The official name for a baby goat is
- 2:22Speaker 1: a kid, and that seems appropriate today here in Tampa,
- 2:27Speaker 1: where the NFL's forty five year old gat faces a
- 2:32Speaker 1: twenty seven year old prodigy whose career is off to
- 2:34Speaker 1: a remarkable start. It's Brady versus Burrow, the goat versus
- 2:40Speaker 1: the kid, and it's time for the pigskin to fly
- 2:43Speaker 1: here in Tampa. Bengals have it first and ten at
- 2:46Speaker 1: the forty of Tampa Bay, first drive of the game
- 2:48Speaker 1: for either team. Play action fake in AATs deflected and
- 2:52Speaker 1: it is he intercepted by Davis at the thirty yard
- 2:57Speaker 1: line of Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers will go for it
- 3:00Speaker 1: on fourth and goal from the one. Brady in the shotgun,
- 3:03Speaker 1: four net motions from the kibi's right to his left.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Brady catches the ball he's back to throw he's looking,
- 3:09Speaker 1: throws toward the end zone. Talk for the touchdown in
- 3:12Speaker 1: the back left corner of the end zone by Russell
- 3:16Speaker 1: Gage burst and goal from the five. As the Bucks
- 3:19Speaker 1: look to add to their ten nothing lead, Brady takes
- 3:22Speaker 1: the snap, throws a screen out to the left, Godwin
- 3:25Speaker 1: to the goal line, touchdown Tampa Bay. Three seconds left,
- 3:30Speaker 1: so the half will end on this forty one yard
- 3:32Speaker 1: field goal try by Evan McPherson. The snap Crispin puts
- 3:37Speaker 1: it down. McPherson's kick very high. It is good. So
- 3:43Speaker 1: the half comes to an end with the Bengals picking
- 3:46Speaker 1: up some momentum. Trent Taylor Bactor return at the twenty three.
- 3:50Speaker 1: It's a fake and it blows up the Buccaneers as
- 3:53Speaker 1: the punt protector Chiovanni Bernard had trouble fielding the snap.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I think he was confused by it and had to
- 4:01Speaker 1: fall on the ball. The Bengals are going to take
- 4:03Speaker 1: over in the red zone and the Tip Bay Buccaneers
- 4:07Speaker 1: punt team is looking at each Chuggle like, what are
- 4:10Speaker 1: you kidding me? Brady bouncing in the pocket his throw
- 4:14Speaker 1: hen steff dead after thirty one nice picked up by
- 4:17Speaker 1: three flowers. He gets up and starts running it back.
- 4:21Speaker 1: That's just to celebrate, though I believe he was touched
- 4:25Speaker 1: on the ground after the pick. Burrow catches the shotgun snap,
- 4:28Speaker 1: forced to scramble right running backward. Penalty flagged down. Burrow
- 4:33Speaker 1: way back and he gets sacked from a twenty six
- 4:37Speaker 1: yard sack all the way back to the fifty. Devin
- 4:41Speaker 1: White and Anthony Nelson bring down Joe Burrow. Let's see
- 4:45Speaker 1: what the flag is? Yeah? Wow? Billow? Who major League Billow?
- 4:53Speaker 1: An automatic first down instead of a twenty six yards sack.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Burrow waiting for the snap from Carrot, Joe has the ball,
- 5:01Speaker 1: fakes to Mixon from the pocket, throws into the ends. Higgins,
- 5:05Speaker 1: running along the back line, makes the catch for the
- 5:09Speaker 1: Bengals touchdown. Brady, tapping both sides of his helmet, points
- 5:13Speaker 1: out where the middle linebacker is Logan Wilson right over
- 5:16Speaker 1: the center started to come. Brady looking to throw. He's
- 5:19Speaker 1: a tables. Wilson's got him. The ball comes out and
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Bengals, grabbing at the thirteen yard n yes third
- 5:26Speaker 1: down and goal from the three, trailing by five points
- 5:29Speaker 1: to forty eight left in the third quarter. Burrel ready
- 5:31Speaker 1: for the shotgun snap. Joe catches the ball from the ten,
- 5:34Speaker 1: throws to the end zone. Boy goes to the ground.
- 5:37Speaker 1: He's got it. Touch down the Bengals. Boyd with an
- 5:41Speaker 1: emphatic spike as Joe Burrow delivers the touchdown pass. I'm
- 5:45Speaker 1: third down and goal from the three. He takes the snap,
- 5:49Speaker 1: He'll hand it out for that bumbles the football. It
- 5:51Speaker 1: bounces into the middle of a scrum at the forty
- 5:54Speaker 1: yard Bob Logan Wilson says they've got it. Von Bell
- 5:57Speaker 1: says they've got it. The Bengal real Burrow in the gun,
- 6:02Speaker 1: mixing to his right, Chase out to the left, Boyd
- 6:05Speaker 1: out to the right. Burrow, looking his throw put by,
- 6:08Speaker 1: Chase heads for the end zone touchdown. Bengals Choe Burrow
- 6:15Speaker 1: with his third touchdown pass of the second half, and
- 6:19Speaker 1: the Bengals have a chance to go up by ten
- 6:22Speaker 1: and they in Jamar. Chase ran right through Keyan O'Neil.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I mean just ran right through him. Hooked up. Neil
- 6:29Speaker 1: went to hit him and Chase his now baby nah
- 6:31Speaker 1: empty backfield for the butt shotgun snap. Brady retreats looking left,
- 6:35Speaker 1: gets crushed as he floats it down field. The Bengals
- 6:38Speaker 1: think it might be an interception. Get hit the grow
- 6:42Speaker 1: HiT's an interception. Lap they're rulling it an interception? Really,
- 6:46Speaker 1: is that your main Pratt? Yeah, it's Pratt hit the ground.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Oh no it didn't. I thought he hit the ground
- 6:51Speaker 1: to hit his arms. That's an interception. But he's touched
- 6:53Speaker 1: right there. Burrow stomps his left foot or receiver goes
- 6:56Speaker 1: in jet motion. They fake it to Mix and Wilcox
- 7:00Speaker 1: to the five to the goal line, hit his hometown Betchell.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Wilcox stores a touchdown have the Bengals put it away
- 7:09Speaker 1: with two twenty one to go. Tom Brady threw a
- 7:13Speaker 1: touchdown pass with forty nine seconds to go to make
- 7:15Speaker 1: the final score look a little more respectable for Tampa Bay,
- 7:18Speaker 1: as the Bengals won by eleven thirty four to twenty three.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Prior to that game, when Brady had a lead of
- 7:26Speaker 1: seventeen or more points at home, his team's record was
- 7:30Speaker 1: eighty nine and zero. You can update that to eighty
- 7:34Speaker 1: nine and one. It was a remarkable turnaround. On their
- 7:39Speaker 1: first four drives of the game, the Bengals had a
- 7:41Speaker 1: tip ball interception, followed by three straight three and outs.
- 7:45Speaker 1: After each team had had the ball four times, the
- 7:48Speaker 1: Bucks had outgained the Bengals two sixty one to thirty six,
- 7:52Speaker 1: but beginning with her two minute drill at the end
- 7:54Speaker 1: of the half, the Bengals next seven possessions went field goal,
- 7:59Speaker 1: field goal, touch down, touchdown, touchdown, hunt, and then touchdown.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Te Higgins scored the first of those touchdowns, and I
- 8:07Speaker 1: talked to him after the game. See, you want to
- 8:11Speaker 1: come back from seventeen nothing to thirty four consecutive points.
- 8:15Speaker 1: What was it like for you guys out there today?
- 8:17Speaker 1: First half was tough, especially offensively. UM. Defense, they they
- 8:21Speaker 1: was moved a ball on our defense. Um, you know,
- 8:24Speaker 1: the first and the first turnover and then the was
- 8:27Speaker 1: it three or four three and outs? That hurt? That
- 8:30Speaker 1: hurt bad. That's not who we are. UM. And then
- 8:32Speaker 1: you know, we came in a halftime, you know, talked
- 8:34Speaker 1: it over, see what we had to do to execute
- 8:38Speaker 1: the game plan. We came out in the second half.
- 8:40Speaker 1: He was able to do it. This team is really
- 8:41Speaker 1: battle tested and it show you had a touchdown catch,
- 8:45Speaker 1: Tyler had a touchdown catch, Jamar had a touchdown catch.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Mitchell Wilcox had a touchdown catch. Just a great example
- 8:53Speaker 1: of all of the weapons this team has. And Joe
- 8:55Speaker 1: uses I want to say, that's the first time I
- 8:57Speaker 1: know all three of us had a touchdown in one game. UM.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Then Mitch coming home to his hometown is scoring. Man,
- 9:04Speaker 1: That's that's amazing. UM. But yeah, man, Joe was able
- 9:07Speaker 1: to find us all and you know, put us in
- 9:09Speaker 1: a great position to the score was it amazing to
- 9:12Speaker 1: be on the sideline when the defense was taking the
- 9:14Speaker 1: ball away from Tom Brady in that offense four straight
- 9:17Speaker 1: times in the second half. Yeah, man, it was crazy. Um,
- 9:21Speaker 1: you know, I'm sitting on the sideline like trying to
- 9:23Speaker 1: you know, trying to catch my breath and stuff, you
- 9:25Speaker 1: know from the previous drive. And the next thing, you know,
- 9:27Speaker 1: we're back on the film like all right, they gotta
- 9:29Speaker 1: go back out there. But you know, Hans out to
- 9:31Speaker 1: the defense man going out there and get four turnovers,
- 9:34Speaker 1: you know on you know, one of the best quarterbacks,
- 9:36Speaker 1: if not the best quarterback to do it. Um, it's
- 9:39Speaker 1: you know, it's amazing. Brady was hot early. Could you
- 9:42Speaker 1: just figure we just have to stick with it eventually
- 9:45Speaker 1: we'll get going. Yeah. Man, we just had to stick
- 9:47Speaker 1: to our plan who we are, and man, it all
- 9:50Speaker 1: played out perfectly for us. You know, defense came in,
- 9:53Speaker 1: came came big, um, and you know our offense was
- 9:56Speaker 1: able to go out there and um, you know score
- 9:58Speaker 1: and we played kind of merry football. That's you have
- 10:00Speaker 1: initial six straight wins, solo possession of first place in
- 10:03Speaker 1: the AFC North. How does that sound? It sounds good, man,
- 10:07Speaker 1: But it's still still a lot, a lot more work
- 10:09Speaker 1: to do. We've got a tough team coming up there
- 10:11Speaker 1: in Foxborough, so we gotta gou out there and you know,
- 10:14Speaker 1: do we do in execute the game plan next week.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Appreciate your time. It's always thanks to Thank you. Joe
- 10:21Speaker 1: Burrow finished twenty seven for thirty nine. That's seventy four
- 10:24Speaker 1: percent for two hundred yards, with four touchdowns, one pick,
- 10:28Speaker 1: and a passer rating of one oh four point six.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Brady through for three hundred twelve yards and three touchdowns,
- 10:35Speaker 1: but he had two interceptions and lost two fumbles, with
- 10:39Speaker 1: a passer rating of ninety two point two. One of
- 10:43Speaker 1: his interceptions came after he got leveled by Joseph Osay.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Dave Lapham caught up with him in the locker room. Defensively,
- 10:52Speaker 1: what did you guys talk about at halftime? Was it
- 10:54Speaker 1: just cleaning a couple things up? Do you make big adjustments?
- 10:58Speaker 1: What was the deal at halftime? You came out in
- 11:00Speaker 1: the second half and suffocated them. We did exactly where
- 11:02Speaker 1: we talked about turnovers wins games, and at the end
- 11:06Speaker 1: of the half there our offense was rolling, so we
- 11:07Speaker 1: knew they're finally you know when they get their rhythm going.
- 11:10Speaker 1: They're unstoppable. So our goal was to get them the ball,
- 11:13Speaker 1: whether it's with stops, turnovers, and um, it just so happened.
- 11:16Speaker 1: It was turnovers. Five possessions in the second of first
- 11:20Speaker 1: five possessions, two interceptions, two fumber recoveries. They botch a
- 11:24Speaker 1: punt um where you know it goes down as a
- 11:27Speaker 1: fourth down stop. But that's another possession that doesn't end
- 11:30Speaker 1: with a kick. Five straight possessions. Have you ever been
- 11:33Speaker 1: part of that? I've never seen that. I never have
- 11:35Speaker 1: and that is great. Um, that's that's kudos to coach
- 11:39Speaker 1: lou the coaches figuring out what we need to get adjusted.
- 11:42Speaker 1: That's the that's kudos to the players listening to that
- 11:44Speaker 1: and executing it because you know, I'm just you can
- 11:46Speaker 1: call whatever you want, but if the players don't go execute,
- 11:49Speaker 1: it's nothing. So that's Uh, that's the whole team defense
- 11:52Speaker 1: and goods up to us bunkering down and settling down
- 11:54Speaker 1: as a family once again. Um, next man up. You
- 11:58Speaker 1: guys have done it all year long. Uh, there were guys.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Sam had an injured injured calf. You got Hendrickson, you
- 12:04Speaker 1: know that has the broken wrist from the back end
- 12:07Speaker 1: defensive players are going down to injury, and Kim Taylor
- 12:10Speaker 1: Brick goes down with the shoulder problem. You know, everybody
- 12:13Speaker 1: just steps up and assumes an additional role, expands the role.
- 12:18Speaker 1: What is it about this football team where everybody just
- 12:20Speaker 1: has that mindset. It's it's because we care about each
- 12:23Speaker 1: other so much. And when you see a guy go down, um,
- 12:28Speaker 1: you don't want that guy to be down, So you
- 12:30Speaker 1: want to play for him. You want to step up
- 12:32Speaker 1: for him, you want to make him have peace of
- 12:34Speaker 1: mind that you know, just because he's out, he's not
- 12:36Speaker 1: letting a team down. So UM, that's just what it
- 12:38Speaker 1: what it speaks to just um, the love we have
- 12:40Speaker 1: for each other, winning to play for each other. The
- 12:42Speaker 1: next guy knows that, and if a guy goes down,
- 12:45Speaker 1: he knows, um that he has that peace of mind
- 12:47Speaker 1: that we have his back. This defensive football team and
- 12:50Speaker 1: team in general, is it the closest you've ever been around. Absolutely,
- 12:55Speaker 1: And we just keep getting closer every day through um.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And it happens through battles like this. You know, I mean,
- 12:59Speaker 1: things and things aren't it was going to go away,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and obviously things are gonna go away. And we were
- 13:04Speaker 1: able to gel together and that just you know, adversely,
- 13:07Speaker 1: Bill's bonds and that's exactly what it's done today. Heck
- 13:10Speaker 1: of a job out there, man, And I know it's
- 13:12Speaker 1: not easy playing with what you're playing with, and a
- 13:14Speaker 1: bunch of you guys are toughening it out. I mean,
- 13:16Speaker 1: it's that time of year, December football. Everybody's beating up
- 13:18Speaker 1: a little bit, right, Zamba football. But you gotta buckle down, yes, sir.

- 13:37Speaker 1: the Bengals final touchdown was scored by Tampa native Mitch Wilcox,
- 13:42Speaker 1: who also played college ball in Tampa at the University
- 13:46Speaker 1: of South Florida. How awesome was it to score your
- 13:50Speaker 1: first NFL touchdown in your hometown where you played your
- 13:53Speaker 1: college football. That's pretty dank cool. You know, this great moment,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you know, try to spike it as absolute hard as
- 13:59Speaker 1: I could. Um, I think it went in the stands
- 14:02Speaker 1: and we're not getting back bets all right, when did
- 14:05Speaker 1: you know you were going to be one of the
- 14:06Speaker 1: coin toss captains today? Uh, you know, Zach told us
- 14:10Speaker 1: shortly before the game, and Kappa and you know, just
- 14:14Speaker 1: really really cool for as a gesture for me to
- 14:17Speaker 1: walk out there, you know, just being a type of
- 14:19Speaker 1: a native and you know, and it was awesome, awesome moment.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Who is here to watch? Uh, sixty plus sixty seventy plus,
- 14:28Speaker 1: so a lot of people friends and family and great
- 14:31Speaker 1: great support. Um, you know, just unbelievably thankful for them.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Describe the touchdown. It looked like a very well conceived
- 14:39Speaker 1: play for that situation. Yeah, I know, kind of a
- 14:41Speaker 1: late league. Um. You know, we've been running running a
- 14:45Speaker 1: lot of run plays where I stick out on the
- 14:46Speaker 1: defensive end and you know, um late league designed lake
- 14:50Speaker 1: lead and uh, Joe put it on me and ran
- 14:54Speaker 1: ran for the rest. So is there a ball in
- 14:56Speaker 1: that locker somewhere there is? Yeah, definitely congratulation, Thank you
- 15:00Speaker 1: very much, appreciate it. Just to clarify, Mitch didn't get
- 15:04Speaker 1: the ball after his touchdown catch because his spike bounced
- 15:08Speaker 1: into the stands, but he was given a game ball
- 15:11Speaker 1: by Zach Taylor. Speaking of Zach. He spent four minutes
- 15:15Speaker 1: with Lap after the game. I've never seen anything like that.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Five turnovers and well, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and
- 15:24Speaker 1: then the box which goes blowing fourth down but doesn't
- 15:28Speaker 1: end them a kick. Five possessions in a row. Crazy, Yeah,
- 15:31Speaker 1: great job by our defense, special teams, Great job by
- 15:33Speaker 1: our offense finishing off those drives. It's really you know,
- 15:37Speaker 1: at halftime we're done, seventeen to three. There's no panic.
- 15:40Speaker 1: There's a sense of calum knowing that we're gonna have
- 15:41Speaker 1: plenty of opportunities and we just went out there and
- 15:44Speaker 1: created them. Really and really proud of the job that
- 15:47Speaker 1: the coaches and the players did there in the second half.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I think thirty one points on about one hundred and
- 15:51Speaker 1: fifty yards offense because, like you said, the short fields,
- 15:54Speaker 1: but you finished it, you know, you took advantage of
- 15:56Speaker 1: it and just flipped it, flipped that football game. Yeah,
- 16:00Speaker 1: that's just take advantage the opportunities you're given. And it's
- 16:03Speaker 1: not always going to be pretty. It's a team that
- 16:05Speaker 1: that won a Super Bowl, you know, two years ago,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and they've still got a lot of those players. They
- 16:10Speaker 1: know how to win their tough team. They could very
- 16:12Speaker 1: well win their division to make a running the playoffs
- 16:14Speaker 1: on their side, and so for us to come down
- 16:16Speaker 1: here and handle some adversity on the road. Really proud
- 16:19Speaker 1: of the effort of our guys. December Football. Sam injures
- 16:23Speaker 1: that calf during the course of the game. Cam Taylor
- 16:25Speaker 1: Britt was some sort of a shoulder injury during the
- 16:27Speaker 1: course of the game. But guys, as they've done all
- 16:29Speaker 1: year for you, next man up, guys step up, expand
- 16:33Speaker 1: their role. Yeah, that's the effectation. Nobody wants to be
- 16:35Speaker 1: the week link. When guys opportunities are called upon, they
- 16:39Speaker 1: take advantage of them. Are rosters really strong right now?
- 16:42Speaker 1: From top to bottom. We got belief in everybody, and
- 16:45Speaker 1: so I was really proud of those guys had to
- 16:46Speaker 1: step up so offensively, what I mean, Joe Burrow throws
- 16:50Speaker 1: four touchdown passes in the second half. What are you
- 16:53Speaker 1: most proud of though about your football team? Like, like
- 16:55Speaker 1: you said, there was no panic, it was all poised,
- 16:58Speaker 1: all composure. Is that a contain interesting? I think our
- 17:02Speaker 1: defensive special teams made some great plays to put us
- 17:04Speaker 1: in position. Offensively, we stayed calm, They threw a lot
- 17:07Speaker 1: at us. We solved the problems as it came to us,
- 17:10Speaker 1: and when the receivers got the balls in their hands,
- 17:12Speaker 1: they made the plays that we need him to make,
- 17:14Speaker 1: and that was that was critical to get a win
- 17:15Speaker 1: like this on the road. What did you say to
- 17:17Speaker 1: your football team at halftime? It was it poised composure
- 17:21Speaker 1: comm at halftime as well that we had not played
- 17:24Speaker 1: up to our standards and we're gonna get plenty of
- 17:26Speaker 1: opportunities in the second half, and it was going to
- 17:27Speaker 1: start with our defense coming out strong to get us
- 17:30Speaker 1: some momentum. And that's exactly what they did. How big
- 17:32Speaker 1: was that field goal drive that you went on right
- 17:34Speaker 1: before halftime to go in with a little bit of momentum.
- 17:37Speaker 1: It was good. We just hadn't had a first down
- 17:38Speaker 1: and seemingly forever and since the first drive really, and
- 17:41Speaker 1: so we just needed to feel that momentum a little bit.
- 17:44Speaker 1: So that was good to get this points on the
- 17:46Speaker 1: board before halftime. The first drive, you wouldn't faced third
- 17:48Speaker 1: down you're moving the ball, and first down the tip
- 17:51Speaker 1: of damn thing and another tip ball interception. It's crazy
- 17:54Speaker 1: how many of those have occurred. But I mean, you
- 17:56Speaker 1: were slicing and dicing and pretty good there in that
- 17:58Speaker 1: first drive. Yeah, we had a good of them, and
- 18:00Speaker 1: that's just going back to getting the first first down.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Once we get that first first down, we're rolling. We
- 18:04Speaker 1: went four straight three and outs after that, and that
- 18:06Speaker 1: causes a little bit of problems for the offense and
- 18:08Speaker 1: then the defense has got to go right back out there,
- 18:10Speaker 1: you know, and that that probably aided in some of
- 18:11Speaker 1: the struggles that they had. And coach finally, uh, first place,
- 18:15Speaker 1: you have a you have a game lead now with
- 18:17Speaker 1: three games to play, doesn't change the way you approach anything.
- 18:20Speaker 1: It's one and all. As many times you can go
- 18:22Speaker 1: one and all. Right, Yeah, we're just gonna worry about
- 18:25Speaker 1: putting together right plan going on the road in a
- 18:27Speaker 1: tough environment, and so we'll take a quick nap on
- 18:29Speaker 1: the plane and get ready for a short week here.
- 18:31Speaker 1: The Raiders ended up coming back and beating the Patriots. Uh,
- 18:35Speaker 1: that's that's that's that's pretty interesting. But as we know
- 18:39Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, that's an opportunistic football team. I think they
- 18:42Speaker 1: have I think they've scored on five returns or something.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I mean, typical of what they're about up there, I guess. Yeah,
- 18:48Speaker 1: they play really good team complimentary football, and I've seen
- 18:51Speaker 1: them went on a punt return. I've seen him one
- 18:53Speaker 1: on defensive touchdown. So played him enough times. Know that
- 18:56Speaker 1: you got to be at your best and be ready
- 18:58Speaker 1: to go on a tough environment. All that matters is
- 19:01Speaker 1: what we do next. We don't have to worry about
- 19:03Speaker 1: anybody else. We just got to focus on ourselves and
- 19:06Speaker 1: have a chance to put this one quickly behind us
- 19:08Speaker 1: and refocus on again a tough road opponent next week.
- 19:11Speaker 1: As Lab mentioned, next week's opponent, New England, lost to
- 19:15Speaker 1: the Raiders, and it was on one of the craziest
- 19:18Speaker 1: final plays in NFL history. Here's how Bob Socy called
- 19:22Speaker 1: it on the Patriots Radio network. Now, at a third
- 19:25Speaker 1: and ten three seconds left, Jones will give it to
- 19:27Speaker 1: Steven Sandy started Rod. He runs it up the middle,
- 19:29Speaker 1: hippy Chandler Jones slips and hit across the forty five.
- 19:31Speaker 1: We're a stiff arm off at tackle of the forty
- 19:33Speaker 1: he lost the football and Jacob me Meyers picks it up.
- 19:36Speaker 1: He circles back and he throws it across the field. Trip.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Oh my god, just picked up my Chandler Jones. He
- 19:40Speaker 1: breaks away to the thirty he runs to the twenty,
- 19:43Speaker 1: he runs to the ten, He run to the aude
- 19:49Speaker 1: th touchdown. Raiders night. This might be one of the
- 19:56Speaker 1: dumbest teams I've ever seen. That final dig came from
- 20:00Speaker 1: former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak. A Boston Globe headline called
- 20:05Speaker 1: it the dumbest play in the history of the Patriots,
- 20:09Speaker 1: who are now seven and seven. New England is the
- 20:12Speaker 1: eighth playoff seat in the AFC, and keep in mind,
- 20:15Speaker 1: only seven teams get in, so the Bengals will be
- 20:17Speaker 1: facing a desperate opponent in Foxborough. The Bengals Booth podcast
- 20:22Speaker 1: is presented by Alta Fiber, future proof fiber Internet capable
- 20:27Speaker 1: of delivering multi gigabit speeds designed to take your home, business,
- 20:30Speaker 1: and community to a new level. Elevate your connection with
- 20:34Speaker 1: Alta Fiber. Now, time for the radio guys recap lap.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I don't know it for a fact, but I'm thinking
- 20:42Speaker 1: that is the first time in Tom Brady's twenty three
- 20:45Speaker 1: NFL seasons that a defense took the ball away from
- 20:48Speaker 1: his offense four straight times. An unbelievable performance by the
- 20:52Speaker 1: Bengals defense. I don't think I don't remember ever seeing
- 20:57Speaker 1: four consecutive possessions at any level turn the ball over.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I really can't remember seeing that. Maybe I have, maybe
- 21:04Speaker 1: it's happened, but particularly with an offense that's being led
- 21:08Speaker 1: by that guy, I mean, you don't expect that. And
- 21:11Speaker 1: then the fifth possession was a botch kick, botch punt
- 21:14Speaker 1: that you know, they ended up messing up a call
- 21:18Speaker 1: and the thing ricochets off to you if Varnie Bernard's
- 21:20Speaker 1: helmet and that doesn't end, that possession ends without a kick,
- 21:24Speaker 1: a punt, extra point of field goal. So I mean,
- 21:27Speaker 1: five possessions in a row. It's mind boggling. It really
- 21:30Speaker 1: has never seen it before. I'm scrambling to flok at
- 21:33Speaker 1: my own notes. Here we go. The Bengals had the
- 21:35Speaker 1: ball six times in the second half. Their average drive
- 21:39Speaker 1: start was the Tampa Bay thirty seven yard line on
- 21:42Speaker 1: six possessions. It's crazy. I mean, what they have like
- 21:45Speaker 1: a little over one hundred and fifty yards offense with
- 21:48Speaker 1: the with the scores that they had in those five turnovers,
- 21:52Speaker 1: those five possessions, I mean, it's it's absolutely crazy. And
- 21:56Speaker 1: they left some points on the field too, you know.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I mean, but I think the field goal is big.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Right before the half just to get a little bit
- 22:05Speaker 1: of momentum, you know, move the ball some to see
- 22:07Speaker 1: if first down happened, because they had three or four
- 22:10Speaker 1: or three and ounce in a row and they just couldn't.
- 22:13Speaker 1: They couldn't get in rhythm. That got them in rhythm
- 22:15Speaker 1: a little bit. And halftime I was asking people, you
- 22:19Speaker 1: know what was talked about at halftime totally ploys, composed,
- 22:23Speaker 1: nobody was losing their mind. It was just, look, you know,
- 22:26Speaker 1: we know what we can do. Let's just take advantage
- 22:28Speaker 1: of our opportunities. And the defense gave them opportunity after
- 22:30Speaker 1: opportunity after opportunity. It was absolutely nuts. Not a huge
- 22:35Speaker 1: yardage game for Joe Burrow, partly because they didn't have
- 22:37Speaker 1: to go that far to score touchdowns, but four touchdown passes,
- 22:41Speaker 1: all in the second half, and nothing came easy. I'll
- 22:44Speaker 1: give the Bucks credit. When it got into the low
- 22:45Speaker 1: red zone, they were really tough, but Joe managed to
- 22:48Speaker 1: find guys to score. They did. They did a good job.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Their defensive backs were very, very physical ten yards in
- 22:56Speaker 1: the ten yard area, coming off the line of scrimmage,
- 22:58Speaker 1: even in the five yard area, I mean, you're allowed
- 23:00Speaker 1: to put your hands on receivers so they would do
- 23:03Speaker 1: it past the five yard area, but then they'd pull
- 23:06Speaker 1: off and the officials weren't looking until the very end,
- 23:09Speaker 1: so they weren't calling it. And I had to be
- 23:12Speaker 1: frustrating to Jamar Chase and other guys Tee Higgins and there.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I mean, it's ridiculous the advantage that they allowed the
- 23:18Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive backs to have and credit them.
- 23:23Speaker 1: It wasn't me and called. So they continued to do it,
- 23:25Speaker 1: and they did it over and over and over again,
- 23:27Speaker 1: and they were taking, um, you know, taking some plays
- 23:30Speaker 1: away from Joe Burrow and his White House. No doubt.
- 23:32Speaker 1: I mentioned to Jamar Chase that it was quite the
- 23:34Speaker 1: duel between he and Carlton Davis. And I must have
- 23:37Speaker 1: given Davis a little bit too much credit because Joe
- 23:40Speaker 1: is having no part of that considering what he felt
- 23:43Speaker 1: where the number of times he was held. Yeah, I mean,
- 23:45Speaker 1: Jamar was he was grabbed. And I will say though
- 23:49Speaker 1: that Davis is a physical guy to be able to.
- 23:51Speaker 1: You know, even if you do grab Jamar Chase, he
- 23:54Speaker 1: usually just overpowers you. But they they had a plan
- 23:58Speaker 1: and they stuck to it. Defensive backfield coach and their
- 24:01Speaker 1: defensive coordinators like, look, let's do it. If they call
- 24:05Speaker 1: it every once in a while, so be it. You know,
- 24:07Speaker 1: we will probably come out on top. I don't think
- 24:09Speaker 1: they called it once. I don't remember a defensive holding
- 24:12Speaker 1: call like that that should have been called when they
- 24:14Speaker 1: were grabbing guys during the courses are out like that.
- 24:16Speaker 1: But you know, I think now that can all be
- 24:20Speaker 1: sent to the league office for a review and hopefully,
- 24:24Speaker 1: you know, they'll be warned about it and look for
- 24:27Speaker 1: it and all those kind of things. So I don't
- 24:28Speaker 1: think it's going to be something they're gonna have to
- 24:29Speaker 1: deal with week after week because basically it's illegal. They
- 24:33Speaker 1: got aware of it. So this team started going two.
- 24:36Speaker 1: They were four and four when they got their rear
- 24:38Speaker 1: ends kicked on Monday Night football in Cleveland. Now they're
- 24:41Speaker 1: ten and four in a loan, in first place in
- 24:43Speaker 1: the AFC North, with a lot of confidence, in a
- 24:45Speaker 1: lot of momentum. Six wins in a rows, like we
- 24:48Speaker 1: talked about before when it was at five, it's hard
- 24:51Speaker 1: to do at pe week level. In the NFL, it's
- 24:53Speaker 1: really really hard to win six in a row, and
- 24:56Speaker 1: I think it's harder to win six in a row
- 24:58Speaker 1: in November and December, because that's when teams are figuring
- 25:02Speaker 1: out who the playoff teams are and they start to
- 25:04Speaker 1: play a different brand of football and they start to
- 25:08Speaker 1: get in a rhythm and to sink a little bit better.
- 25:10Speaker 1: They just teams improve. I mean, most teams are a
- 25:13Speaker 1: different football team in November than they're in September. And
- 25:17Speaker 1: sometimes it's due to getting guys back from injury, and
- 25:21Speaker 1: teams get worse, you know, lose players to injury. But
- 25:24Speaker 1: this football team has been able to just stay very nice.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Even Keel continue to improve. The aircraft went up every
- 25:31Speaker 1: single week, and here they are playing their best football
- 25:33Speaker 1: at a great time. Let's talk about the injuries. Sam
- 25:36Speaker 1: Hubbard hurt his calf. He exited the locker room in
- 25:38Speaker 1: a walking boat, probably precautionary, but nonetheless. Hendrickson's out with
- 25:43Speaker 1: a wrist injury. Hubbard's at least was out today with
- 25:46Speaker 1: a calf injury. Mike Kilton had a pretty aggressive pregame
- 25:50Speaker 1: warm up, so that boat's well for him. But they've
- 25:52Speaker 1: got to try to survive some time here without some
- 25:55Speaker 1: of the really good defensive players. Yeah, Janeln Davis broken thumb.
- 25:58Speaker 1: He didn't play Trey Hundricks broken wrist. He didn't play.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I will give Tyler Boyd a lot of credit playing
- 26:04Speaker 1: with that dislocated finger. That had to be very painful
- 26:07Speaker 1: because it was not your you know, your ordinary dislocation.
- 26:10Speaker 1: It was a compound where the bone came out of
- 26:13Speaker 1: the skin and now they're worried about effects and they
- 26:15Speaker 1: have to surgically put it back into place. And he
- 26:18Speaker 1: was blocking and trying to he was keeping that hand
- 26:20Speaker 1: down and they're be doing a good job blocking with
- 26:22Speaker 1: one hand. I dude is a tough guy and a
- 26:24Speaker 1: hell of a football player, and I know his teammates
- 26:28Speaker 1: and his coaches really respect and appreciate what he gave
- 26:31Speaker 1: him out there. And that's that's what this football team
- 26:34Speaker 1: is about. To me. When I look at guys that
- 26:36Speaker 1: step up and the next man up kind of thing,
- 26:38Speaker 1: I don't want to be the guy. I don't want
- 26:40Speaker 1: to be the guy that lets this team down. So
- 26:43Speaker 1: they're playing at such a high level for individually, collectively
- 26:46Speaker 1: every way they can. I expected more giddiness when I
- 26:50Speaker 1: got to the locker room after railing from seventeen down
- 26:53Speaker 1: against Tom Brady. It was pretty business like, considering that
- 26:58Speaker 1: the nature of this game. Yeah, I think I think
- 27:00Speaker 1: they were a little bit hacked off about the way
- 27:03Speaker 1: they played in the first half and rectified it. But
- 27:07Speaker 1: it was like, that's what we should have been doing,
- 27:08Speaker 1: you know. It was almost like, this is what we
- 27:12Speaker 1: expect that this is what we anticipated bebe we arrived
- 27:14Speaker 1: at it in a different way. But you know, we
- 27:18Speaker 1: have other games to win and this is just one
- 27:21Speaker 1: of them. Said they beat Brady, now they try to
- 27:24Speaker 1: beat Belichick on Christmas Eve. The killer bees Brady and
- 27:28Speaker 1: Belichick and Belichick is he is a different greta catboy.
- 27:32Speaker 1: He will have a defensive game plan that will look
- 27:35Speaker 1: totally different than anything the Bengals have seen all season long.
- 27:38Speaker 1: He just at this stage of the year or two,
- 27:41Speaker 1: particularly November in December, when you're playing for playoffs, I
- 27:45Speaker 1: mean in September and even into October, he's still seeing
- 27:48Speaker 1: what his team can and can't handle. But then once
- 27:51Speaker 1: he realized and determines what they can how much they're
- 27:54Speaker 1: capable of consuming, man, he will throw everything at you.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And uh, it's really going to be a challel for
- 28:00Speaker 1: this offense to recognize, communicating and get on the same page.
- 28:04Speaker 1: It will be a short week for both teams since
- 28:07Speaker 1: next week's game is on Saturday, that's Christmas Eve. Finally,
- 28:12Speaker 1: it's time for this week's fun Facts interview, where we
- 28:15Speaker 1: get to know the person under the pads. Time for
- 28:19Speaker 1: some fun facts with Bengals offensive lineman La Elle Collins.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Let's start with your first name, La Apostrophe El. Share
- 28:28Speaker 1: the story of what it means and why you were
- 28:30Speaker 1: given that name. So my name means it's Hebrew. It
- 28:35Speaker 1: means belonging to God. We have an l tradition in
- 28:39Speaker 1: my family. Everybody name starts with the nail, except my
- 28:44Speaker 1: brother because he's a junior. And you know, my mom
- 28:48Speaker 1: and my grandmother came up with it. I read that
- 28:52Speaker 1: it was attached to a difficult childbirth. Well, when I
- 28:56Speaker 1: was born, I came out with the umbiblical car wrapped
- 29:00Speaker 1: around my neck and uh, you know, doctor was the
- 29:03Speaker 1: doctors was just amazed that, you know how I was
- 29:07Speaker 1: still functioning right and breathing, and but they quickly got
- 29:12Speaker 1: that from wrapped around my neck and h you know
- 29:15Speaker 1: it was it was a great day. It was my
- 29:16Speaker 1: mom's birthday, so it was a special day. Your mom
- 29:20Speaker 1: sounds like quite a character and a remarkable woman. Describe
- 29:24Speaker 1: her and some of the things you got from her.
- 29:27Speaker 1: She is a wonderful woman. You know, I can't be
- 29:32Speaker 1: more thankful for being raised by such a strong woman.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I mean, she taught me, you know what hard work
- 29:41Speaker 1: looked like, just through her actions each and every day,
- 29:45Speaker 1: you know, working howevery many jobs it took just to
- 29:48Speaker 1: take care of me and my brother and my sisters.
- 29:50Speaker 1: And you know, she did a fantastic job. And now
- 29:54Speaker 1: she's retired and I get to take care of her.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Ellen reading up about you a little bit, I would
- 30:00Speaker 1: admit this caught me by surprise. You are an eagle Scout.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Typically I think of like a punter from BYU being
- 30:07Speaker 1: an eagle scout. But that's not easy. You've got to
- 30:10Speaker 1: earn twenty one merit badges, you have to do a
- 30:12Speaker 1: service project. Is that a big point of pride for you? Absolutely,
- 30:16Speaker 1: because you know, during that time, that was like the
- 30:20Speaker 1: first thing I was kind of a part of before
- 30:23Speaker 1: I got into sports. And my mom she just kept
- 30:27Speaker 1: us involved in different things to you know, just give
- 30:30Speaker 1: us some some exposure and you know, just trying to
- 30:34Speaker 1: put her kids in the best best position to win.
- 30:37Speaker 1: And you know, as I got older, I kind of
- 30:41Speaker 1: you know, I was kind of like, uh, you know,
- 30:44Speaker 1: I don't know if I want to continue to do this, Mom,
- 30:46Speaker 1: I want to just focus on sports. But she made
- 30:48Speaker 1: me stick with it, and you know, I'm I'm faver
- 30:51Speaker 1: grateful for that. A big accomplishment to your teammates and coaches. Now,
- 30:56Speaker 1: I don't I don't know, I'm not sure, but it's
- 30:59Speaker 1: it's definite me out there. We're doing fun facts with
- 31:02Speaker 1: Al Collins. You're a big man, sixty four three fourteen
- 31:06Speaker 1: pounds on the roster. Were you always that kid who
- 31:09Speaker 1: dominated over you know, everybody in the back of the
- 31:11Speaker 1: class photo? Oh? Yeah, you know absolutely. I was always
- 31:15Speaker 1: the big kid in class. And I didn't realize I
- 31:18Speaker 1: was always a big kid in class until you know,
- 31:20Speaker 1: we used to have to line up from chartest the tallest,
- 31:23Speaker 1: and then I started to realize, you know, while I
- 31:26Speaker 1: was at the back of the line. Every time. You're
- 31:30Speaker 1: from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. You stayed home to play college
- 31:33Speaker 1: ball for LSU. Was it a childhood dream to be
- 31:36Speaker 1: a Tiger? You know, Honestly, I didn't grow up like
- 31:40Speaker 1: a big football fan or anything like that. Um, you know,
- 31:44Speaker 1: I started playing football which it was a great story.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I had a little cousin by the name of Peewee,
- 31:51Speaker 1: that's what we called him as his nickname, and he
- 31:53Speaker 1: was the smallest guy in class. So one day he
- 31:56Speaker 1: came up to me and he asked me if I
- 31:58Speaker 1: wanted to play football, and I was like, yeah, you know,
- 32:01Speaker 1: I love to play football. Used always play outside of
- 32:04Speaker 1: the pe but I never knew anything really about it.
- 32:08Speaker 1: And you know, I went out there for my first practice.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I never forget the first time did a drill. I
- 32:14Speaker 1: got hit in the stomach and I was like, whoa,
- 32:18Speaker 1: this is what football is. I don't know if this
- 32:20Speaker 1: is for me. And then you know, my coach kind
- 32:23Speaker 1: of told me like, hey, you gotta get you get low.
- 32:26Speaker 1: You know, low man wins, and you know I quickly
- 32:29Speaker 1: figured that out, and you know, it's something that you know,
- 32:33Speaker 1: changed my life all the way from just my little
- 32:35Speaker 1: cousin acting to me if I wanted to play football,
- 32:37Speaker 1: And now here I am. You know, I don't even
- 32:41Speaker 1: know how many years years ago that was, but here
- 32:44Speaker 1: I am. And you know, I'm very fortunate to be
- 32:46Speaker 1: able to be in this position. So the Bengals have
- 32:48Speaker 1: your cousin Peewee to thank for you wind up by
- 32:51Speaker 1: being a football player. When you were in high school
- 32:54Speaker 1: and in college, you blocked for former Bengals running back
- 32:57Speaker 1: Jeremy Hill. He turned pro year before you did, And
- 33:01Speaker 1: I read that while you were still at LSU you
- 33:03Speaker 1: came up here to visit him while he was with
- 33:05Speaker 1: the Bengals. What do you remember about the visit and
- 33:07Speaker 1: did it feel like you were coming full circle when
- 33:10Speaker 1: you joined Cincinnati this year? Absolutely? You know, I remember
- 33:14Speaker 1: just you know, being super excited for my buddy. You know,
- 33:18Speaker 1: I was there the day got drafted to the Bengals,
- 33:20Speaker 1: and I just remember the moment of joy, excitement, everything
- 33:25Speaker 1: like that, and coming up here to visit him, and
- 33:29Speaker 1: just remember how cold it was. I think it was
- 33:31Speaker 1: probably the coldest place I had ever been at the time,
- 33:34Speaker 1: and they were playing Jacksonville and I was sitting right
- 33:37Speaker 1: by the tunnel actually, and you know I've seen him
- 33:41Speaker 1: busts a long run right up the right sideline and
- 33:44Speaker 1: he took it to the house, and you know, it
- 33:46Speaker 1: just gave me, you know, a very great feeling, because
- 33:51Speaker 1: you know, I mean I remember walking in you know,
- 33:55Speaker 1: my eighth grade year, well, going into my ninth grade year,
- 33:58Speaker 1: my eighth grade summer, UM, and he was already you know,
- 34:03Speaker 1: working out and everything like that. And I remember going
- 34:06Speaker 1: to going to work out with him and he was
- 34:08Speaker 1: benching more than me at the time, and I was
- 34:10Speaker 1: struggling with the way and he was helping me out,
- 34:13Speaker 1: and you know, just over time, you know, um, you know,
- 34:17Speaker 1: it was just you know, it's it's a very special
- 34:20Speaker 1: thing because when I look back at it, you know,
- 34:23Speaker 1: I never in a million years would have thought I
- 34:26Speaker 1: would have been playing here, and here I am, and
- 34:28Speaker 1: you know, this is this is a great place to be.
- 34:32Speaker 1: What was the best part about your college experience at LSU.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I would have to say, you know, it's so many great,
- 34:39Speaker 1: great things that that I experienced in college. Um, but
- 34:43Speaker 1: you know, going to the national championship my freshman year,
- 34:48Speaker 1: that was a one of the one of the best experiences, UM.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Coming straight out of high school going joining the ls
- 34:55Speaker 1: of Tigers and you know, not even playing much. I played.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I played little bit my freshman year, but you know,
- 35:02Speaker 1: in that type of game and that type of environment,
- 35:05Speaker 1: just to see, you know, what that did for the city,
- 35:07Speaker 1: what that did for the team, and you know, it's
- 35:10Speaker 1: just how excited everyone was, and you know, winning the
- 35:13Speaker 1: SEC championship that year, you know, it was it was
- 35:16Speaker 1: special and unfortunately we didn't win the game, but you know,
- 35:20Speaker 1: I learned a lot from that whole process, and you know,
- 35:24Speaker 1: it was special, especially because it was right there at
- 35:26Speaker 1: home in New Orleans, so, you know, literally hour away
- 35:30Speaker 1: from where I grew up at and all my family
- 35:33Speaker 1: was there and it was just ill. Never forget that
- 35:36Speaker 1: moment we're visiting with l Collins. From many NFL players,
- 35:41Speaker 1: the draft is one of the best days of their life.
- 35:44Speaker 1: In your case, it was a nightmare. You're expected to
- 35:47Speaker 1: be a first round pick. Shortly before the draft, it
- 35:50Speaker 1: came out that the police wanted to talk to you
- 35:52Speaker 1: about a murder victim that you happen to know. You
- 35:55Speaker 1: weren't a suspect. Your name was totally cleared, but the
- 35:58Speaker 1: timing was such that you didn't get picked. Can you
- 36:01Speaker 1: describe what you and your family went through. It's one
- 36:05Speaker 1: of those experiences where, you know, every day I kind
- 36:08Speaker 1: of looked back at that moment in time in my
- 36:11Speaker 1: life and just wonder, like, you know, what life would
- 36:15Speaker 1: be hadn't that happened. You know, because shortly after you know,
- 36:20Speaker 1: I went to Dallas and I you know, I had
- 36:25Speaker 1: a I had a great experience, and you know, I
- 36:28Speaker 1: was able to meet my girlfriend now and you know,
- 36:32Speaker 1: we had two beautiful kids, and you know, you know,
- 36:36Speaker 1: you just think about you think back at times like
- 36:38Speaker 1: that and you just kind of like just wonder, like
- 36:42Speaker 1: where with life or life look like? You know, what
- 36:44Speaker 1: would life look like without my two beautiful kids? And
- 36:48Speaker 1: I wouldn't trade it for the world. And you know,
- 36:51Speaker 1: as I got older, you know, I've grown to just
- 36:54Speaker 1: understand that things happen in life that you can't control
- 36:57Speaker 1: sometimes and you know, you just have to figure out
- 37:00Speaker 1: what it is that you know, this experience is trying
- 37:03Speaker 1: to teach you. And it really just opened up my
- 37:06Speaker 1: eyes to just life and things that you know, I
- 37:11Speaker 1: mean a twenty one year old and could never even imagine.
- 37:14Speaker 1: I mean at that time, you know, it's like your
- 37:16Speaker 1: life is just getting started. You know, you work so hard.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I went back my senior year, you know, just to
- 37:21Speaker 1: solidify myself as the best tackle in football, and you know,
- 37:26Speaker 1: I compassed a lot of great things that year as well,
- 37:29Speaker 1: and you know, just to go through that process and
- 37:32Speaker 1: have it all taken away it was. It was definitely
- 37:38Speaker 1: a nightmare. But you know, here I am now in
- 37:42Speaker 1: my eighth season, and you know, I just thank God
- 37:45Speaker 1: for everything that I've been through, everything He's prepared me for.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, mentally, I've been able to
- 37:52Speaker 1: just tap into a whole other level that I didn't
- 37:55Speaker 1: even know that was there, and you know, I learned
- 37:59Speaker 1: a lot. You spent the last seven years with the
- 38:02Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys. They're called America's team for a reason. What
- 38:06Speaker 1: was your experience like in Dallas? It was great from
- 38:10Speaker 1: the moment I got there, just you know, meeting with Jerry,
- 38:15Speaker 1: meeting with the whole organization, having my family there, and
- 38:21Speaker 1: you know, it just was amazing. I really didn't even
- 38:23Speaker 1: understand like what it was truly like to be on
- 38:28Speaker 1: one of, you know, one of the best organizations in
- 38:32Speaker 1: the world, you know, Dallas Cowboy And you know, I
- 38:39Speaker 1: can't think you know Jones family enough for giving me
- 38:41Speaker 1: the opportunity, because I mean, when you come out of
- 38:45Speaker 1: a situation like that, it's not a lot of people
- 38:48Speaker 1: that will stick around, and you know, whether you know
- 38:52Speaker 1: they know who you are not, you know, and mister
- 38:55Speaker 1: Jones embraced me in my situation, my family and and
- 39:00Speaker 1: spent seven years there, and you know, they gave me
- 39:03Speaker 1: an opportunity to, you know, do a lot of great
- 39:05Speaker 1: things and I'm forever grateful for that. And you know,
- 39:10Speaker 1: you know, I can't thank him enough. You became a
- 39:13Speaker 1: free agent this year and signed with Cincinnati, and you
- 39:15Speaker 1: have been reunited with your first NFL offensive line coach,
- 39:19Speaker 1: Frank Pollock. It seems like there is a tremendous mutual
- 39:22Speaker 1: respect between the two of you. Guys. Why is that
- 39:25Speaker 1: the case. He was my offensive line coach in Dallas
- 39:30Speaker 1: my first three years, and he was there every step
- 39:35Speaker 1: of away from the beginning. You know, he was a
- 39:38Speaker 1: great coach. He's still a great coach, and I mean
- 39:42Speaker 1: he taught me pretty much everything I know. And you know,
- 39:46Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, when you come into the
- 39:48Speaker 1: NFL and you have a coach like that, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 1: not only you know, prepares you to have a great year,
- 39:55Speaker 1: but I feel like it belongs your career in the
- 39:58Speaker 1: NFL because every and he taught me has gotten me
- 40:01Speaker 1: up to this point, and you know, I continue to
- 40:04Speaker 1: learn each and every day. I'm happy to be back
- 40:06Speaker 1: with them and be up under him and learn everything
- 40:10Speaker 1: that I can, and I mean he he does it, no,
- 40:13Speaker 1: you know, better than anybody I've been around, you know,
- 40:16Speaker 1: as office of line coach. I think he's the best
- 40:18Speaker 1: old line coach in the league. I write a few
- 40:21Speaker 1: wild card topics now to wrap things up with L. L. Collins.
- 40:24Speaker 1: How difficult is it to catch us seven foot long,
- 40:28Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty pounds shark? Oh man, it's a
- 40:32Speaker 1: back burner, you know. Um. It definitely had my arms
- 40:38Speaker 1: locking up, you know, But it was fun, you know,
- 40:42Speaker 1: it was. It was a great time. I was with
- 40:44Speaker 1: you know, some of my former teammates and you know
- 40:47Speaker 1: it was something that we did every year, and you know,
- 40:50Speaker 1: it was it was. It was a great, great time,
- 40:53Speaker 1: great memories, gay camaraderie with the guys. Frank Pollack calls
- 40:57Speaker 1: you a glass eater, but one article just wrapped you
- 41:00Speaker 1: as a lovable teddy bear? Is that accurate? Off the field? Absolutely?
- 41:05Speaker 1: You know, I'm you know, on the field, you know,
- 41:07Speaker 1: it's all about just getting a job done and doing
- 41:11Speaker 1: it at a high level. And you know, off the field,
- 41:15Speaker 1: you know, you know you can't be all just game
- 41:19Speaker 1: time ready, you know, so you know, I get to
- 41:22Speaker 1: just enjoy my life, and you know, enjoy the people
- 41:26Speaker 1: that's in it, Enjoy the people that's been here for
- 41:28Speaker 1: me throughout this whole time, and and just really, you know,
- 41:33Speaker 1: be thankful for what I have. You know, I'm a
- 41:35Speaker 1: guy that you know, came from nothing, um, you know,
- 41:38Speaker 1: and I just watched my mom worked very hard, and
- 41:41Speaker 1: you know, I caught on at a young gage and
- 41:43Speaker 1: I understood, if she can work this harder, I could
- 41:46Speaker 1: work even harder. And you know, I just couldn't be
- 41:50Speaker 1: more thankful for where I'm at. Are you a bit
- 41:53Speaker 1: of a shopoholic? And if so, what do you like
- 41:56Speaker 1: to spend your money on? Um? Well, as you know,
- 41:59Speaker 1: I've been through stages where you know, there's things I
- 42:02Speaker 1: like to buy, UM. And you know, now I'm at
- 42:07Speaker 1: a point to where you know, I feel like just
- 42:10Speaker 1: because I have money, you know, UM, you know, it's
- 42:13Speaker 1: it's good to to invest and and and do things
- 42:18Speaker 1: like that. But if I'm out shopping, you know, I
- 42:21Speaker 1: like to I like to dress nice obviously, so I
- 42:23Speaker 1: like to buy nice clothes. Uh. You know, at one point,
- 42:28Speaker 1: a few years ago, you know, I was, I was
- 42:31Speaker 1: I was able to have enough money in my ACCOUNTCIL
- 42:33Speaker 1: brought me some some nice cars and I got I
- 42:36Speaker 1: like to collect classic cars, old school cars. You know,
- 42:40Speaker 1: I have a nineteen sixty three Corvette sting Ray, I
- 42:44Speaker 1: have a sixty nine Camaro. I have a seventy two
- 42:48Speaker 1: hivelle Um. You know I have a few more other
- 42:52Speaker 1: classic cars. I'm a big cars guy. You know. My
- 42:55Speaker 1: grand my granddad, he was big on cars and toys.
- 43:00Speaker 1: So I like those type of things. And you know,
- 43:02Speaker 1: I also have a great financial advisor, Latavia's. He's great. Um.
- 43:08Speaker 1: He's really gotten me involved into investments. And I bought
- 43:12Speaker 1: my first movie this year. I can't say the name.
- 43:17Speaker 1: And then you know, I've got a few real estate
- 43:19Speaker 1: projects going. And you know, I have a trucking company
- 43:23Speaker 1: that I've been you know, owning for about seven years now.
- 43:26Speaker 1: So you know, there's a lot of great things. The
- 43:28Speaker 1: biggest thing is, you know, set myself up for life
- 43:32Speaker 1: after football and making sure my family is taken care
- 43:34Speaker 1: of and making sure mom never has to work another
- 43:37Speaker 1: day in my life. So um, you know, I'm very
- 43:40Speaker 1: grateful for that, and that's that's what it continues to
- 43:43Speaker 1: push me. My dad has passed away, but you would
- 43:46Speaker 1: have been his favorite. Bengal because he loved classic cars.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Who is your all time favorite athlete in any sport?
- 43:53Speaker 1: And why? Oh, that's a tough question. You know, it's
- 43:56Speaker 1: a lot of It's been a lot of great athletes
- 44:00Speaker 1: that I've watched over the years. Probably my sisters because
- 44:04Speaker 1: they were all athletic. M I got to watch one
- 44:08Speaker 1: of my sisters run track in college, which for me,
- 44:12Speaker 1: it was like wow, like she's on a big stage,
- 44:14Speaker 1: like all these people are here watching her run, and
- 44:17Speaker 1: you know that was great. Then you know, my older sister,
- 44:20Speaker 1: she was a track runner. She was always fast, and
- 44:23Speaker 1: it wasn't until I was able to talk out to
- 44:25Speaker 1: high school to where I was able to kind of,
- 44:28Speaker 1: you know, run where they couldn't catch me. But I
- 44:30Speaker 1: always needed a head start because they were always fast.
- 44:34Speaker 1: And you know, outside of that, outside of that, you know,
- 44:37Speaker 1: you know my siblings. You know, I would probably say
- 44:40Speaker 1: Jarvis Landry. He's probably one of my favorite sivers, one
- 44:44Speaker 1: of my favorite teammates ever had in college, and you know,
- 44:48Speaker 1: he's did very well for himself in the NFL level
- 44:51Speaker 1: and I was just start. He played the game like
- 44:53Speaker 1: offensive linement. Just he was tough, physical, He made the
- 44:59Speaker 1: great catch, just you know, all around all across the board,
- 45:03Speaker 1: and you know, he was just always super just you know,
- 45:08Speaker 1: it's a great football player, and you know, I think
- 45:12Speaker 1: his energy, you know, I watched a lot of teams
- 45:15Speaker 1: feed off of that energy, and you know, he's definitely
- 45:17Speaker 1: one of them all the time favorites. Final question, and
- 45:20Speaker 1: this is kind of deep. If you could meet anybody
- 45:24Speaker 1: in history, who would that person be? I guess I
- 45:28Speaker 1: would go back into like all the way to the
- 45:31Speaker 1: beginning to where like my family like really came from
- 45:35Speaker 1: and the roots, and just like I wish I could
- 45:40Speaker 1: just go back and just see all the generations and
- 45:42Speaker 1: see you know, everybody that's you know that part of
- 45:47Speaker 1: my my my my family chain. Um. I think that
- 45:50Speaker 1: would be pretty cool because I heard my mom always
- 45:54Speaker 1: talk about like her grandparents and um, you know, her
- 45:58Speaker 1: aunties and things that you know, I've never got a
- 46:02Speaker 1: sense of meat and so probably you know, all the
- 46:06Speaker 1: way from the beginning my family tree. It's a great answer.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Tell us all of us what your family means to you.
- 46:13Speaker 1: I really appreciate your time. Best of luck the rest
- 46:15Speaker 1: of the year. I appreciate it. Oh day, that's going
