Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: H return to glory. You finally say that, maybe we
- 0:22Speaker 1: should still say mediocrity. But I guess we got the
- 0:24Speaker 1: six wins.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I think this is the last podcast we've made it
- 0:28Speaker 2: we've returned. Yes, this is glory. This is what glory
- 0:32Speaker 2: feels like. Man, Oh that was right.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Uh. I will say before we talk football, I just
- 0:43Speaker 1: want to say best weekend in Husker sports question mark.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Uh, in the last in our lifetime, like like in
- 0:53Speaker 1: our lifetime.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I could probably agree with that. Yep, it's I mean,
- 0:59Speaker 2: because you at the thing. National titles are always going
- 1:02Speaker 2: to be, but that's not on a weekend. I guess.
- 1:06Speaker 3: It also was. It was the last national title even
- 1:09Speaker 3: in our lifetime.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Volleyball, Yeah, there's everything complete together starting Friday night and Friday.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I guess with the men's basketball team.
- 1:26Speaker 2: If the women could have just locked it up. I
- 1:27Speaker 2: know they're without pots, but.
- 1:31Speaker 1: There's room for improvement, is what we're saying there. There
- 1:33Speaker 1: can be a better weekend. There can be a better weekend.
- 1:37Speaker 1: But it was pretty great overall. Uh. And we'll touch
- 1:41Speaker 1: on the basketball and volleyball games here at the end.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Can we all just like start here at the top
- 1:47Speaker 1: and just relax our shoulders and just take a deep
- 1:52Speaker 1: breath and.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Just the monkeys off the back like Steve.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Young time and just breathe. Everyone, it is it is.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It's over. The draft of eight years is over.
- 2:09Speaker 3: We go.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I went got up to the tailgate, had some stuff
- 2:14Speaker 1: earlier in the day, but got up to the tailgate
- 2:16Speaker 1: to watch just in time for like the start of
- 2:18Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, right before it, and uh Dak was
- 2:22Speaker 1: hugging me already like the thinking that we did it.
- 2:27Speaker 1: We did it. He was saying, we too, going to
- 2:30Speaker 1: a ball game. I'm like, there is a whole quarter left.
- 2:33Speaker 3: And I'm talking about the game later.
- 2:35Speaker 1: No, okay, okay, just get that out of the way.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Say what you need to say about Oklahoma, so I
- 2:41Speaker 1: don't want to talk about it again.
- 2:42Speaker 3: I called it wrapping the jump. I said their defense
- 2:45Speaker 3: is going to control Jalen Miller road. Yeah, that's it.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I basically called that game. I was gonna go.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Thanks. He said about as much about it as he
- 2:52Speaker 1: did as much as he probably remember watching it. So yeah,
- 2:57Speaker 1: congrats too, Tlahoma. All your boomer students paying off. So yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 1: Nebraska pulled it off. We snapped the bowl game drought.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We snap Wisconsin's ten game winning streak. We take the
- 3:11Speaker 1: Freedom Trophy for the first time since its existence. It's
- 3:16Speaker 1: pretty great. It's pretty it's a pretty good feeling good.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And I will say, like, celebrate it and enjoy it.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It's it is unprecedented in our adult adulting lives. I
- 3:33Speaker 1: mean kind of since we've been in college. It's it's
- 3:36Speaker 1: unprecedented times making the Uh So with all that came
- 3:42Speaker 1: the field storming Dak congrats on correctly predicting that. It
- 3:46Speaker 1: came with at the tailgate, champagne popping and it's prey
- 3:50Speaker 1: for us. Uh it came with all of that, and
- 3:56Speaker 1: I think the celebrating and and you saw maybe some
- 4:00Speaker 1: things on Twitter too, well, yeah, we just beat him
- 4:04Speaker 1: sub five hundred teams to go bowling. It's kind of
- 4:07Speaker 1: a little more of like a laughable we did it,
- 4:10Speaker 1: like let's enjoy this because it's been so bad and
- 4:13Speaker 1: so horrible the last few years, not just the Husker
- 4:17Speaker 1: fans but nationally too. So it was more of like
- 4:20Speaker 1: a I mean, it was a celebration and a celebration, right,
- 4:22Speaker 1: but it wasn't a I'm not saying a sarcastic celebration,
- 4:26Speaker 1: but it kind of was that makes sense? We were
- 4:29Speaker 1: we were enjoying it because yeah, we finally did it.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Like relief is the word that keeps We're relieved to
- 4:36Speaker 1: relief celebration.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, I'm totally fine. I said, it's been eight years.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I'm thrilled that I don't have to listen to another
- 4:47Speaker 2: broadcast be listened to them and be like, yeah, this
- 4:49Speaker 2: program hasn't been to a bowl game. I don't know
- 4:51Speaker 2: what they're going to talk about during Nebraska games, maybe
- 4:53Speaker 2: the cour losses, but the bowl game was like, oh
- 4:58Speaker 2: my gosh, I did hear Jake but say so bit
- 5:00Speaker 2: about not going to a bowl game with this historic
- 5:02Speaker 2: program in this slump.
- 5:04Speaker 3: And.
- 5:07Speaker 1: He said, it still doesn't count as a one score
- 5:10Speaker 1: win and we can't add it to that chart in
- 5:13Speaker 1: so that can still come and be improved, obviously, But
- 5:17Speaker 1: you're right it the bull top conversation of we can't
- 5:22Speaker 1: get to a bowl game, which every year just feels
- 5:25Speaker 1: like and it was an eternity ago that you add
- 5:29Speaker 1: to it it, we can, we can cross that off our.
- 5:32Speaker 2: List definitely helps us play looser next week. Yeah, I
- 5:38Speaker 2: think it's just that hump, like I think all Husker
- 5:41Speaker 2: fans know, like it's this isn't the expectation, but this
- 5:44Speaker 2: was the first step to get over the first hurdle,
- 5:47Speaker 2: and we did it. It's it feels good. And then
- 5:51Speaker 2: the hust the basketball game on Friday, Wow, what a
- 5:55Speaker 2: freaking moment, and then the volleyball game after that and
- 6:00Speaker 2: Colorado lost. Yep, cherry on top.
- 6:05Speaker 3: It was. It was not only made a bowl game,
- 6:07Speaker 3: but the way he did it's four forty five points.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Like the offense looked great.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks. I saw a sweet before this from
- 6:15Speaker 3: USC fan saying if Dinner Holger's same was there a
- 6:17Speaker 3: week before the USC game, they would have won that one.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I think so too, Like that just shows you how
- 6:22Speaker 3: bad Sarafield actually was, Like, like how this guy can
- 6:27Speaker 3: come in and turn your offense a complete one to
- 6:31Speaker 3: eighty round like that in a week and a week
- 6:33Speaker 3: and a half them like that, it's I don't know.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Can we can we just have a can we have
- 6:41Speaker 1: a data Holderson appreciation segment here?
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:44Speaker 1: And what what he has done, like you said, in
- 6:50Speaker 1: such a short period of time. It's I guess, I
- 6:54Speaker 1: don't know. I didn't know what to expect that. All
- 6:56Speaker 1: we knew was it couldn't get worse, and obviously it didn't,
- 7:00Speaker 1: but we knew that there was a ceiling. It could
- 7:03Speaker 1: have got much much better. And I'm not saying everything's
- 7:06Speaker 1: perfect and our offense is fixed. I think that's one
- 7:08Speaker 1: of the most more important things that you have to
- 7:10Speaker 1: keep in perspective after wins, which we don't do a lot,
- 7:14Speaker 1: but it's easy to critique and nitpick and find little
- 7:18Speaker 1: things after losses. You gotta do the same thing after wins.
- 7:23Speaker 1: So everything's not perfect, right, and we'll point out some
- 7:26Speaker 1: maybe the little thing in an offense, but it's so
- 7:28Speaker 1: much better, Like it's just so much fresshirts. It's it
- 7:32Speaker 1: looks like we're playing free. You can't predict what we're
- 7:36Speaker 1: trying to do based on how we line up and
- 7:38Speaker 1: the different guys that are getting the balls the motion
- 7:42Speaker 1: that I'll say it, I don't know what tweaks and
- 7:47Speaker 1: adjustments or made. Our offensive line just kicked Wisconsin's ass.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Wisconsin wasn't missing their best defensive player and they were
- 7:56Speaker 2: their lowest in the Big Ten and tackles for losses.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So I mean, it wasn't like we're playing anything any
- 8:02Speaker 2: Domina game. But yeah, you're right the offensive line. Think
- 8:04Speaker 2: about the sack. Dylan had plenty of time to throw, I.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Mean to put up forty four. Yeah, Wisconsin, and the
- 8:12Speaker 1: Wisconsin's on a bad defense, I wouldn't say they're I
- 8:14Speaker 1: I think I have a fair average. Then some people
- 8:18Speaker 1: might even call them little above average. But Wisconsin too,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I will say, is not like it's not the typical
- 8:26Speaker 1: Wisconsin teams that we've played. Now, I really don't care
- 8:29Speaker 1: about that, because they beat us the last ten years
- 8:31Speaker 1: regardless of who they've been. So it's still a tough team, right,
- 8:35Speaker 1: But they're not. They're not the Wisconsin that we've been
- 8:38Speaker 1: used to just getting ran on for four hundred yards
- 8:41Speaker 1: a game. They still had some success though some of
- 8:44Speaker 1: the things they did. We just made so much better.
- 8:47Speaker 1: We played so much better just top start to finish.
- 8:52Speaker 1: As far as guys making plays and role as he
- 8:55Speaker 1: made that comment again post game, guys making plays when
- 8:58Speaker 1: they need to make plays, and not just making a
- 9:01Speaker 1: four yard run but actually like blowing holes up and.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Evan Johnson Johnson untackleable.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I mean, he was incredible one thirteen rushing yards and
- 9:17Speaker 1: added another eighty something through the air and receiving, Like wow,
- 9:23Speaker 1: now Dell, he's got his role. They complimented each other
- 9:26Speaker 1: very well. I mean he had he had three touchdowns
- 9:29Speaker 1: average over four yards of carry. It our run game
- 9:33Speaker 1: is what really I thought finally got established again and
- 9:37Speaker 1: opened up. But our past game was there too, Like
- 9:39Speaker 1: it was just a good compliment. Uh what what Dana
- 9:43Speaker 1: knows from an offensive coach? Something that Sadderfield didn't have?
- 9:49Speaker 1: Never has Dack? Were we too late? Like why didn't
- 9:53Speaker 1: we make this not not the whole Dana thing, but
- 9:55Speaker 1: why why did you said it? You didn't like Saderfield,
- 9:58Speaker 1: you said it.
- 9:59Speaker 3: No, I said it from to jump. I didn't think
- 10:02Speaker 3: there's a reason why Danny took this job. Like he's
- 10:05Speaker 3: sitting and retired basically, And he took this job because
- 10:08Speaker 3: he's sitting back there looking at he He probably looks
- 10:11Speaker 3: in the brass me like this is such easy picks,
- 10:12Speaker 3: Like you come in with a good quarterback, I wouldn't
- 10:16Speaker 3: say great and yeah, like like he's probably sitting there
- 10:21Speaker 3: like this is so easy, Like you know, maybe for
- 10:24Speaker 3: the twentieth great time, we don't do a tight end
- 10:25Speaker 3: screen here, Like I don't know. I think I think
- 10:32Speaker 3: Rule probably called him and is like, hey, we need
- 10:34Speaker 3: some help on offense. And he's like, yep, I got
- 10:37Speaker 3: you to watching all the tape and stuff. He's like,
- 10:39Speaker 3: this is gonna be one week fix. I can come
- 10:41Speaker 3: in and do it now. Now, what do you think
- 10:46Speaker 3: Sadurfield sitting there thinking like.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I hope I'm still a tight Ends coach next year.
- 10:52Speaker 3: You think him and Dan are talking locker room afterwards, Like.
- 10:57Speaker 1: I still my thought was saturfic as him and Rule
- 11:00Speaker 1: are pretty damn good friends. Yeah, and so with his situation,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I think I think it'll be very easy just to say, hey,
- 11:08Speaker 1: and I don't know this for sure. I don't know
- 11:11Speaker 1: what contracts and the language and all that that's in
- 11:13Speaker 1: Saderfield's OC contract. I'm sure there were stuff they had
- 11:16Speaker 1: to do this year, even because yeah, he's not unemployed,
- 11:18Speaker 1: he's not fired from his position, he's still getting paid.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I'm not sure what that amount is as a restructures
- 11:25Speaker 1: contractor right, like I would venture to guess that the
- 11:28Speaker 1: contract stipulates that he's the offensive coordinator get to get
- 11:31Speaker 1: his full salary. So if he is demoted right to
- 11:35Speaker 1: his tight ends coach position, which I think he can
- 11:38Speaker 1: still do a good job at, like it's hard to
- 11:41Speaker 1: the position coaches don't get talked about a lot because
- 11:44Speaker 1: you won't and we never will. Unless practices are open,
- 11:47Speaker 1: the detailed work and techniques and things that they know,
- 11:51Speaker 1: know and do and practice, we won't know that he
- 11:54Speaker 1: can do a good job of that. He clearly though,
- 11:56Speaker 1: wasn't very functional as the offensive course or and I
- 12:01Speaker 1: think I think he'll still be around. I really do,
- 12:04Speaker 1: especially in a restructured contract role. And I don't think
- 12:08Speaker 1: there's anything wrong with that. I think that's okay.
- 12:11Speaker 3: The thing the thing about is, though, looking back on
- 12:13Speaker 3: the season, if Dana was your OC, how many of
- 12:18Speaker 3: these games did you've won? You don't know why. You
- 12:21Speaker 3: gotta get offensive games. So I don't know about that one,
- 12:22Speaker 3: but Ohio State you would have beat Indianay one of
- 12:29Speaker 3: It's just.
- 12:31Speaker 1: You're right. I mean that we talked about rule in
- 12:33Speaker 1: the in the whether it's blinders or whatever it is,
- 12:37Speaker 1: the mistakes that he's made. I mean, we said that
- 12:39Speaker 1: could have been one big thing looking back on it,
- 12:42Speaker 1: like why did why did we waste the first half
- 12:44Speaker 1: of the year if this could have happened sooner. The
- 12:49Speaker 1: the other side of that is that maybe Dana wasn't ready,
- 12:52Speaker 1: and he hinted at that and when he has press
- 12:56Speaker 1: conference lastics, maybe he wasn't ready. And that makes total sense,
- 13:00Speaker 1: but it it is. It makes you wonder, like, God,
- 13:03Speaker 1: damn it, why do we do this sooner?
- 13:06Speaker 2: But provision is history. You know, there's no guarantee we
- 13:10Speaker 2: would have won those games. That's not again one game,
- 13:14Speaker 2: like I'm not gonna go nuts. I don't think we're
- 13:15Speaker 2: gonna put up forty We're gonna average forty five points
- 13:18Speaker 2: a game this year.
- 13:21Speaker 1: We are very excited now, yeah, everything that's happened, and
- 13:28Speaker 1: probably more so because of the fact that we get
- 13:30Speaker 1: to go to a ball game and it makes things
- 13:33Speaker 1: very easy to justify now of why things are going
- 13:37Speaker 1: the way they are. Rule and staff in the leadership,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I think think of it as a long process. And
- 13:45Speaker 1: I know that word is very annoying to hear, especially
- 13:49Speaker 1: when you see coaches are getting immediate results at other places,
- 13:52Speaker 1: which is what we've talked about fast two or three weeks,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and nobody wanted to talk about what the season would
- 13:58Speaker 1: have looked like if it would end in five and seven.
- 14:01Speaker 1: But now that we won, I I I think a
- 14:06Speaker 1: lot of people are just saying, oh, everything's good again.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I just think we have to just enjoy it. But
- 14:11Speaker 1: let's move on and let's get to the next storm
- 14:15Speaker 1: in the field. Great, awesome, like.
- 14:18Speaker 2: That we could come out and get lose to Iowa
- 14:21Speaker 2: and then.
- 14:23Speaker 1: In Autome you mentioned play loose Friday Iowa. There's up.
- 14:28Speaker 1: There's the other way of viewing it as maybe we
- 14:30Speaker 1: just won't care about the game because our internal goal.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I'm not saying this is what it's going to happen.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Our internal goal is achieved, Like we really don't care
- 14:38Speaker 1: about the Iowa game because you know, we're done, Like
- 14:42Speaker 1: the box is checked and we're going to a bowl
- 14:44Speaker 1: game regardless if that happens. That is very very red
- 14:49Speaker 1: flag e for this program for the future, like very
- 14:53Speaker 1: red flaggy as far as his goals and and and
- 14:56Speaker 1: and growth development from the team in the program. That's
- 15:02Speaker 1: not a good sign. I don't hope. I hope that
- 15:04Speaker 1: doesn't happen. I don't think it will, but it's gonna
- 15:06Speaker 1: tell us a lot on Friday what we get coming
- 15:09Speaker 1: off of because of its significance. One of the bigger
- 15:13Speaker 1: wins that we've had as a football program here in
- 15:16Speaker 1: Quice some time.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Do you have our preseason rank of the Wisconsin game.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I'm curious.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I'm trying to think what we Yeah, I don't remember.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I mean we weren't expecting.
- 15:26Speaker 2: No, we thought we were going to get the six win.
- 15:28Speaker 2: But before this game, yeah, I will say like there
- 15:32Speaker 2: were a couple of things on offense that there was
- 15:35Speaker 2: one of the thing where it was like if we
- 15:36Speaker 2: lost this game, there were things that happened that because
- 15:41Speaker 2: we won, we don't care about. But like there was
- 15:43Speaker 2: that one drive when we were down in the red
- 15:45Speaker 2: zone and we threw it twice when we were up,
- 15:51Speaker 2: It's like, why are we not running the ball here?
- 15:53Speaker 2: It was like second and six and we threw the
- 15:55Speaker 2: ball twice and the clock stopped and we ended up
- 15:57Speaker 2: kicking the field goal. And it's just it was one
- 16:01Speaker 2: of those moments whereas like why are we not running
- 16:03Speaker 2: the ball? I don't know how to describe it.
- 16:07Speaker 3: That's one of the things though, what the air raid
- 16:10Speaker 3: is like he's not running a full air raid. You
- 16:13Speaker 3: can definitely see some wrinkles of the raid though in the.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Offense, Like it's it's the concepts with their what happens
- 16:22Speaker 1: when it comes to play calling for the good and
- 16:25Speaker 1: the bad. When it works, you're genius. When it doesn't,
- 16:28Speaker 1: you're an idiot. That's how it's always been, how it's
- 16:30Speaker 1: always always will be. It works, it worked on that
- 16:34Speaker 1: play call, it doesn't work and we lose the game,
- 16:37Speaker 1: which we've been on that side a lot. We are
- 16:40Speaker 1: wondering what in the world what are we doing? So
- 16:45Speaker 1: to that point, that's where it doesn't come back to
- 16:47Speaker 1: a little bit. If you're going to call play a
- 16:50Speaker 1: certain way, you better know and understand that you of
- 16:53Speaker 1: the guys to make those plays, and you're confident in
- 16:57Speaker 1: them to do that. You're not hoping and praying that, oh,
- 17:00Speaker 1: this is what I think is a good play, but crap,
- 17:02Speaker 1: we don't really have a left guard to block it.
- 17:04Speaker 1: So yeah, well we'll just deal with it. No, I
- 17:07Speaker 1: think Dana understands, and only for three weeks, understands what
- 17:12Speaker 1: these players are capable up and that's that's your job
- 17:15Speaker 1: as a coach is to put the players in a
- 17:17Speaker 1: position to where they can perform their best like that's
- 17:21Speaker 1: your job.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I think Dylan's best ability as a passer is ability
- 17:26Speaker 2: to throw a ball on the sideline or in the
- 17:28Speaker 2: corner of the end zone. Because he freaking puts the
- 17:31Speaker 2: ball like where a receiver could barely get a toe
- 17:35Speaker 2: in bounds, and it's like the only guy who can
- 17:38Speaker 2: catch it is the receiver. Because there was even the
- 17:41Speaker 2: ones that got called back or we didn't quite complete,
- 17:43Speaker 2: it was like perfectly placed.
- 17:46Speaker 3: I don't know about you guys, what you guys thought
- 17:48Speaker 3: about this, but I thought he looked like early season Rolla,
- 17:52Speaker 3: like he has confidence back, like he was throwing those
- 17:56Speaker 3: no look what kind of no look passes like he
- 17:58Speaker 3: wasn't in this season like no I thought. I thought
- 18:03Speaker 3: he looked like let's say Utap or Colorado Royal War.
- 18:08Speaker 1: It it's hard, it's hard. It's hard to compare. I
- 18:12Speaker 1: guess games and opponents and all of that, but he did.
- 18:14Speaker 1: He had probably his best game of the year, and Austin,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I do I think that is one of his best
- 18:22Speaker 1: all these Like he he knows where to put the
- 18:24Speaker 1: ball to where it's not gonna hurt our like our
- 18:29Speaker 1: like are. It's not gonna get picked off, right, it's
- 18:32Speaker 1: not either a receivers catching or nobody's catching. And we've
- 18:34Speaker 1: seen that all year. Even in game that he struggled,
- 18:38Speaker 1: he still I think struggles a little bit of mobility.
- 18:42Speaker 1: The other thing that he's he does and he did
- 18:43Speaker 1: it a couple of times here. He can move his
- 18:46Speaker 1: arm angle like a lot of the really good quarterbacks
- 18:49Speaker 1: can like That's what makes it special. We've seen freshman
- 18:53Speaker 1: moments of him and will continue to see those a
- 18:56Speaker 1: little bit here. I'm gonna finish this year, probably in
- 18:59Speaker 1: the next year, but I think Dana is a very
- 19:01Speaker 1: very very very strong mesh like Dylan's is a type
- 19:07Speaker 1: of quarterback that he really loves in what he wants
- 19:10Speaker 1: to do, and I think that only helps the whole
- 19:13Speaker 1: situation because when you have a guy that fits your system,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you can really coach him exactly how you want him
- 19:19Speaker 1: and make him really really good. When you have someone
- 19:21Speaker 1: you're not as familiar with, or let's say you throw
- 19:23Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson a data holders in system, Dana's probably not
- 19:26Speaker 1: going to quite know how to maximize Lamar Jackson's potential
- 19:29Speaker 1: because that's not exactly what he believes or what he
- 19:32Speaker 1: thinks in the offense should be surrounded by it. So
- 19:37Speaker 1: I do think that the future is very bright for
- 19:39Speaker 1: the offense, but we have to continue to show results
- 19:44Speaker 1: with it, because if it goes South. All of the
- 19:49Speaker 1: negativity and the questioning and all of that is going
- 19:52Speaker 1: to come right back up. It's gonna be there. It's
- 19:54Speaker 1: not like it's gone and fixed because we just put
- 19:56Speaker 1: up forty four on Wisconsin like that was awesome. That
- 19:58Speaker 1: was great. But we have to continue to do that
- 20:00Speaker 1: and build on it and moving that direction. Otherwise it's
- 20:04Speaker 1: it's going to continue to hurt and and we're gonna
- 20:06Speaker 1: get stagnant at six wins, and nobody wants that as
- 20:09Speaker 1: the program.
- 20:12Speaker 3: It was the perfect quarterback for what hey, Holdriston want's
- 20:15Speaker 3: to run.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. When we took the shot to the
- 20:19Speaker 2: end zone and we missed it, and he immediately ran
- 20:21Speaker 2: the exact same play again and we missed it again,
- 20:24Speaker 2: but it was like all right, like it was there
- 20:27Speaker 2: the first time. I as, we'll see if it's there
- 20:28Speaker 2: again in the second time. I really like that also, Evin.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Johnson, I think all this game and hopefully the next
- 20:38Speaker 1: couple of two games now, I hope it helps get
- 20:41Speaker 1: recruits and players. I mean, you can't tell me that
- 20:43Speaker 1: if you if you're watching this game as a guy,
- 20:46Speaker 1: a wide receiver entering the portal or a high school recruit,
- 20:49Speaker 1: that you don't want to be on the other end
- 20:51Speaker 1: of Dylan Royola like you, you would love that. You're
- 20:53Speaker 1: going to eat that up. So I think I think
- 20:56Speaker 1: the end of the year like this. I know we
- 20:57Speaker 1: don't want to jump forward to the end of the year,
- 21:00Speaker 1: but at the same time, don't mess it. Don't mess
- 21:03Speaker 1: up what we're doing now and from now to the
- 21:05Speaker 1: end of the year. Don't don't get blown out by IOWA.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Don't go play a bowl game and just get destroyed
- 21:10Speaker 1: and look like complete trash. Because we got more practices.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Let's put on an impressive run here to end the year,
- 21:21Speaker 1: and that momentum is gonna be huge for recruiting and
- 21:26Speaker 1: getting players like is say and they or Jamal Banks.
- 21:28Speaker 1: We've talked about them a lot this year. The two
- 21:31Speaker 1: veteran wide receiver transfers that came in, they are solid,
- 21:36Speaker 1: five the sticks out of ten Division One receivers for
- 21:39Speaker 1: the Big Ten. They're solid, but they're not playmakers. They're
- 21:42Speaker 1: not elite playmakers. Or Corey Barney has a freshman he
- 21:45Speaker 1: has that potential to get there. He's I mean, he's
- 21:48Speaker 1: a playmaker and stuff. I wouldn't call him elite, but
- 21:51Speaker 1: he's a playmaker right now, other players are gonna see
- 21:55Speaker 1: this and go I want to be a part of that.
- 21:58Speaker 1: If this could have went south, and we don't say
- 22:01Speaker 1: what that scenario is because it's not gonna happen, but
- 22:03Speaker 1: it could have got ugly, ugly, ugly. So that's how
- 22:07Speaker 1: big this game is. Just put that in perspective and
- 22:11Speaker 1: how I guess big. The next couple of games are
- 22:13Speaker 1: to keep it rolling and not just say, oh, well
- 22:15Speaker 1: that was a one time fluke, which is what kind
- 22:17Speaker 1: of people thought after all these recent games. After the
- 22:21Speaker 1: Ohio State game, well that was a fluke that we
- 22:23Speaker 1: hung with Ohio State.
- 22:25Speaker 2: We did not see the young receiver, the young athlete,
- 22:30Speaker 2: which was revealed to be Quinn Clark. Supposedly. Yes, I
- 22:34Speaker 2: also did not see Thomas Padoni.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Okay, and here's my here's my comment. I wrote parents
- 22:43Speaker 1: suck and then I had Fidoni or whatever. I don't know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: did you guys see the.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Round?
- 22:52Speaker 1: I did not got parents suck and I don't I
- 22:54Speaker 1: don't even know if it's his parent as a relative
- 22:56Speaker 1: or something. Basically it was.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Someone with the last name Fidoni commented on a Husker
- 23:02Speaker 2: Facebook posting, saying, why is Thomas Fadoni supposedly you're starting
- 23:06Speaker 2: tight end but not playing in the game or something
- 23:09Speaker 2: like that.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Basically said you basically basically comment and said how rules
- 23:15Speaker 1: ruined him and you've destroyed a kid's mindset and love
- 23:20Speaker 1: for the game. But I just basically went off on
- 23:25Speaker 1: playing had two snaps. All a game. All games. Parents
- 23:29Speaker 1: just suck. They and I'll just say it, society is
- 23:31Speaker 1: getting worse and worse and worse in this. You know,
- 23:34Speaker 1: you see it coaching at the high school level. It's
- 23:37Speaker 1: worse than it's ever been. Not so much the kids
- 23:40Speaker 1: are still kids. It's the it's the parents and and
- 23:43Speaker 1: how what what they are instilling in their kids from
- 23:46Speaker 1: a teamwork, team building mindset. They it's it's it's so bad.
- 23:55Speaker 1: It's not good at any level. And that's what This
- 23:57Speaker 1: is a perfect example of your all these players are
- 24:00Speaker 1: so happy and excited, and you want to stick out
- 24:03Speaker 1: and try to make a stupid post and for your
- 24:07Speaker 1: kid because you think that your kid's more important and
- 24:10Speaker 1: you're teaching him that it's all about me, me me, me,
- 24:12Speaker 1: me me me, that's all you're doing. I mean, I'm
- 24:14Speaker 1: not saying for don condone that and appreciate he He
- 24:18Speaker 1: probably is like, mom, what the hell. But that's that's
- 24:21Speaker 1: that's what that's what society is. That's there's parents are
- 24:24Speaker 1: so protective of their kids, and it's unfortunate that the
- 24:27Speaker 1: lack of trust and and respect that they have for
- 24:31Speaker 1: their coaches and and and other players right that they
- 24:34Speaker 1: play with the teammates that are out there and enjoying it.
- 24:38Speaker 1: So anyways, that's that's uh. That was my comment there
- 24:43Speaker 1: is that fans just or parents just suck fair. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 1: done shouldn't play it like Dak he said, like if
- 24:51Speaker 1: you watch the last couple of games, he can't move.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's what I gonna say, is I don't
- 24:55Speaker 3: think that rule in his career. I think I think
- 24:57Speaker 3: injuries did Like he's.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah, you remember, it's like you're just not going to
- 25:04Speaker 2: have the same athleticism.
- 25:06Speaker 3: How many years has been here too?
- 25:09Speaker 2: This is his fourth year, isn't it?
- 25:11Speaker 3: Or I remember a couple of years ago he can
- 25:13Speaker 3: move like he was quicker than ship. Like, I don't know,
- 25:17Speaker 3: I think injuries and and L can see that too,
- 25:20Speaker 3: like you can't have him out there. It's it's kind
- 25:21Speaker 3: of like Tommy Hill, the dude's injured. You can't have
- 25:24Speaker 3: him out there either, like he's gonna hurt your team.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. We won by twenty points, you know.
- 25:31Speaker 2: To argue with the it's like, well that's what it is,
- 25:37Speaker 2: all right. Yeah, I think that's prettych all I have
- 25:40Speaker 2: to say about the offense. Uh, Johnson was a stud.
- 25:44Speaker 3: There's the last one thing about the offense. I think
- 25:49Speaker 3: the main thing that Holverson changes you are getting the
- 25:52Speaker 3: running backs evolved in the passing game a lot more.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I agree, it's showing up a lot. I mean, Emma
- 26:00Speaker 1: Johnson had six sketches for eighty five yards.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yep. I think that's the main change he did.
- 26:06Speaker 1: It's also coming from a guy that all he does
- 26:09Speaker 1: on college football video game is throw to his running backs.
- 26:12Speaker 1: But you know, yeah, it does. It's it's a it's
- 26:19Speaker 1: a very It's another added thing to our offense, another
- 26:23Speaker 1: added element that keeps opposing teams guessing on what we
- 26:28Speaker 1: can do. I thought Heinrid Harberg got involved a lot
- 26:32Speaker 1: more too.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Yep.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:34Speaker 2: I went to the sets and I didn't realize he
- 26:36Speaker 2: had six carries.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Yeah, he got a lot of red zone carries and
- 26:39Speaker 1: and and I don't know if they studied this, but
- 26:42Speaker 1: like I'm a Saints fan it they were were using
- 26:45Speaker 1: him like Taysom Hill, like Taysom Hill is not like
- 26:47Speaker 1: he comes in like I would watch that, Like that's
- 26:50Speaker 1: how that's how you utilize a guy like that that
- 26:52Speaker 1: has that ability. Get him in the red zone, like
- 26:55Speaker 1: that's where he's going to be effective. And it opens
- 26:57Speaker 1: up another element that teams can't stop when you're a
- 27:00Speaker 1: little bit narrowed with the field, that you can use
- 27:03Speaker 1: when you get in the red zone as far as
- 27:05Speaker 1: the passing game goes, Yeah, bring in some guy that
- 27:07Speaker 1: has a little bit of power and run to him.
- 27:09Speaker 1: So I thought that was very creative and smart as
- 27:11Speaker 1: well this game. Oh only other offensive comment that I
- 27:16Speaker 1: had and is jumping back to Dana Holgerson And this
- 27:21Speaker 1: will continue to be a conversation, but I've heard it
- 27:24Speaker 1: a lot, come up a lot. What this contract deal is,
- 27:29Speaker 1: what's gonna happen in the future. There's a lot of
- 27:32Speaker 1: unknowns and nobody knows. I don't even know how much
- 27:34Speaker 1: the internal people know because they're still trying to finish
- 27:37Speaker 1: out the season. What we do know is Dana's getting
- 27:40Speaker 1: paid four and a half million from his buy out
- 27:42Speaker 1: from his previous head coaching job. I don't know what
- 27:46Speaker 1: we're paying him. We're paying him some contract or salary now,
- 27:49Speaker 1: but basically so yeah, it's something not a whole lot,
- 27:53Speaker 1: but basically that just gets subtracted out a lot. So
- 27:56Speaker 1: he's still making four and a half million, no matter what,
- 27:59Speaker 1: right what he's doing. And if we hire him longer
- 28:03Speaker 1: than that long like in the next year, a three
- 28:06Speaker 1: year contract, two year or whatever that may be for
- 28:09Speaker 1: something less than four and a half million, and I'm
- 28:11Speaker 1: not sure exactly how long it goes. We we are
- 28:15Speaker 1: his previous school will pay the difference for that amount.
- 28:19Speaker 1: He'll still make four and a half million. However, I mean,
- 28:22Speaker 1: that's one scenario the one that I and I'm kind
- 28:26Speaker 1: of surprised that people aren't talking about this or they're
- 28:28Speaker 1: brushing it over, like Danad Holgerson is going to be
- 28:31Speaker 1: a relative, very known candidate out there for a head
- 28:36Speaker 1: coaching position for other schools. I think if things go
- 28:41Speaker 1: well like we want them to, if things remain average
- 28:45Speaker 1: and you know, it doesn't get this is the best
- 28:48Speaker 1: it gets for the next twelve games, then yeah, we'll
- 28:51Speaker 1: be able to retain him for something less than four
- 28:53Speaker 1: and a half million a year, and he'll be our
- 28:55Speaker 1: office of coordinator. But that's not gonna mean we're probably
- 28:57Speaker 1: gonna be winning a whole lot of games. If this
- 28:59Speaker 1: thing takes off, He's going to get looked at. He's
- 29:02Speaker 1: it's not, it's not. It's not even like Marcus Saderfield,
- 29:05Speaker 1: who hasn't proven himself anywhere. Dana's proven himself before. He's
- 29:09Speaker 1: gonna be a hot commodity. And when it comes to that,
- 29:13Speaker 1: what in the world does that mean for what we're
- 29:16Speaker 1: gonna pay him as an OC if we want to
- 29:18Speaker 1: keep him as an OC When we mentioned we've talked
- 29:21Speaker 1: about this, brought this up before. If he's a head
- 29:24Speaker 1: coach somewhere else and they're offering a shit ton of money,
- 29:26Speaker 1: what what if I mean, what if I do I'm
- 29:30Speaker 1: not saying this is a scenario. What if him and
- 29:32Speaker 1: him and Riola become a packaged deal because they mesh
- 29:36Speaker 1: and they work so well together, and no matter the
- 29:39Speaker 1: school that he goes to, they can say, hey, I'm
- 29:42Speaker 1: just throwing out a random school. Alabama says in a
- 29:46Speaker 1: in a year says okay, debor Nope, you're not going
- 29:49Speaker 1: to work out. Hey, Dana, why don't you and Dylan
- 29:51Speaker 1: come here and we're gonna give you sixty million combined
- 29:54Speaker 1: to come and play here? Because Nil continues to take off,
- 29:56Speaker 1: Like what if that happened? I'm not that's extreme, but
- 29:59Speaker 1: it out there. It's just the weird world we live in.
- 30:03Speaker 1: It's a lot of conversation, a lot of ifs right now.
- 30:05Speaker 1: But just keep that in mind of where this thing
- 30:08Speaker 1: could go if it goes well like we want it to,
- 30:12Speaker 1: how we're going to work all that out now. I
- 30:15Speaker 1: think Rule is the right guy to be in the
- 30:17Speaker 1: position to work through that. I think his political sense
- 30:20Speaker 1: and communication skills have been something that we've always talked
- 30:24Speaker 1: about as being as strength as this. That will help.
- 30:28Speaker 1: And the leadership I think we have in Nebraska is
- 30:30Speaker 1: very strong, so that will also help. But it's going
- 30:34Speaker 1: to it's coming if it things go well, if it
- 30:36Speaker 1: goes If it doesn't go well, well then we're talking
- 30:37Speaker 1: about something completely else. But if it goes well, that
- 30:41Speaker 1: conversation is coming.
- 30:43Speaker 2: A lot just has to happen before that conversation.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I just wanted to thro it out there now after
- 30:48Speaker 1: this when everybody's like, this is awesome, Dana Dylan all
- 30:51Speaker 1: that we're so excited for the future. I'm like, old
- 30:53Speaker 1: your horses, Like, there's a lot that could go on
- 30:56Speaker 1: before we get there. You know, Dylan once again looks
- 30:59Speaker 1: like the face of this program for the next four years,
- 31:01Speaker 1: and we're so excited and it's gonna be so awesome.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Like yeah, but with that comes a lot of other
- 31:07Speaker 1: ship that we got to be aware of. So just
- 31:11Speaker 1: take it day by day, enjoy it, living the moment.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I think that's what the most important here as fans.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Enjoy being a fan when things go well, because yeah,
- 31:20Speaker 1: it's it is it's something we have not done in
- 31:23Speaker 1: a long time. Okay, defensive side of the ball, there's
- 31:33Speaker 1: a lot of good and a lot of bad.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I don't know what it's like. Yeah it was. It
- 31:37Speaker 2: was a mediocre performance.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Our tackling I did not think was great. Again, it
- 31:42Speaker 1: was weird. Wisconsin did do a pretty damn good job
- 31:45Speaker 1: of running the ball on us, and they just attack
- 31:49Speaker 1: Hertzog again, especially early. Our defense is not falling apart,
- 31:57Speaker 1: but it just it needs that reale if and not.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I'm not saying every game is going to be a
- 32:03Speaker 1: stellar performance, but these games, as we know, putting together
- 32:07Speaker 1: complete game. Obviously, our offense did their job well enough
- 32:11Speaker 1: that we won by nineteen. But it's not like Wisconsin's
- 32:16Speaker 1: offense is very good and we still give up twenty
- 32:18Speaker 1: five points. We gave a their number one receiver was out,
- 32:24Speaker 1: Biden Lock, freshman quarterback that came in, and Braiden Lock
- 32:27Speaker 1: looked pretty solid. I mean, he looks solid, like it's
- 32:31Speaker 1: not like he was. He was twenty for thirty with
- 32:33Speaker 1: almost three hundred yards. You know, they're they're they're running
- 32:38Speaker 1: back the one probably Walker, the leader. You only average
- 32:41Speaker 1: four yards of carry, but the backup came in he
- 32:44Speaker 1: averaged almost eight yards of carry. And so it's it's
- 32:50Speaker 1: up to up and down, right, But that that when
- 32:52Speaker 1: you win, you don't talk about it. You don't, you don't.
- 32:55Speaker 1: We don't talk about how that probably. I mean, you
- 32:57Speaker 1: could argue that maybe we tackle the worst against U
- 33:01Speaker 1: c l A potentially, but like that maybe was our
- 33:06Speaker 1: worst tackling performance of the year and it came to
- 33:08Speaker 1: one by nineteen. But that that kind of is how
- 33:11Speaker 1: I how I felt watching that game. I don't know
- 33:14Speaker 1: what you guys thought, but that that was my opinion,
- 33:16Speaker 1: and so you don't talk about it. You just brush over,
- 33:18Speaker 1: you sand whatever. As coaches, I don't think they're doing
- 33:22Speaker 1: that and they shouldn't be, but it does. I mean,
- 33:24Speaker 1: we need to play better on defense. It Wisconsin missed
- 33:29Speaker 1: some field goals, like thank god they did that helped
- 33:33Speaker 1: that they moved the ball and they did not have
- 33:35Speaker 1: problems moving the ball on us. So that Ty Robinson,
- 33:40Speaker 1: you know, is it in Rule? I think Rule gets
- 33:43Speaker 1: emotional every time he talks about ty Robinson, and rightfully.
- 33:47Speaker 1: So you look back on the game, Yeah, you're really
- 33:51Speaker 1: happy that you won, but man, as a defensive unit, like,
- 33:55Speaker 1: it wasn't great. It was not great, and people are
- 33:57Speaker 1: gonna say, oh, come on, I know what we won.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Well, yeah we did.
- 34:00Speaker 1: But if our goals and our expectations for the future
- 34:03Speaker 1: are to get better, that defense has to get better
- 34:07Speaker 1: than what they played on on Saturday.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Well, I mean, we never trailed, but we could have
- 34:14Speaker 2: trailed because the misfields weren't caused by defense. That was
- 34:18Speaker 2: just and Wisconsin did a lot to hurt themselves too.
- 34:21Speaker 2: There were a couple of times are they fall start
- 34:24Speaker 2: or there's that one drive offense where we got bailed
- 34:27Speaker 2: out by a couple of calls that I don't necessarily
- 34:31Speaker 2: I was a Wisconsin pan I definite wouldn't agree with
- 34:34Speaker 2: a couple of them, but there was some always like okay, yeah,
- 34:36Speaker 2: I can see it, but it was one of those
- 34:41Speaker 2: things where we just couldn't quite put it away, and
- 34:44Speaker 2: like you know, we got an interception, we got a fumble.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Both those players were good, but they were killing us
- 34:53Speaker 2: on the deep ball, and you're right at the run game,
- 34:55Speaker 2: they're kind of killing us, which worries you going into
- 34:57Speaker 2: Iowa because I it was absolutely running it down everyone's throat,
- 35:02Speaker 2: only through it fourteen times and whooped Maryland. But yeah,
- 35:10Speaker 2: they also, you know Tyrouson's interview, it definitely felt like
- 35:14Speaker 2: it was the last game of the year. How people
- 35:15Speaker 2: were talking during the interview and they understood it was
- 35:18Speaker 2: the last home game, and I think that's what they're referencing.
- 35:20Speaker 2: But it's like, okay, guys, like you didn't play well
- 35:24Speaker 2: and we have another game, Like I need you to
- 35:28Speaker 2: not be so celebratory.
- 35:31Speaker 3: It definitely you definitely can't complain about it because you won,
- 35:37Speaker 3: like you said, but Wisconsin could easily put up forty
- 35:39Speaker 3: four points too, Like like you said, they saw himself
- 35:42Speaker 3: in the flop the whole game. The defense I think
- 35:47Speaker 3: has not been the same. So I think the defense
- 35:51Speaker 3: is regressed this year. I think your offense is moving
- 35:57Speaker 3: the other direction. That's what I think. But I agree,
- 36:02Speaker 3: I think that's pretty ever since, ever since the Illinois game.
- 36:05Speaker 3: I don't think your defense looked the same.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean if it has not gotten better from
- 36:11Speaker 1: last year, for sure. And I think there's a lot
- 36:13Speaker 1: that goes into that. You know, the three three five scheme.
- 36:17Speaker 1: You know last year it's something new that the Big
- 36:19Speaker 1: ten really hasn't seen. I think you got a little
- 36:21Speaker 1: bit of a of a shock factor to the Big
- 36:23Speaker 1: ten and you know now that you see it and
- 36:25Speaker 1: what it's all about. There they were having a little
- 36:30Speaker 1: bit of regression. And I talked about that is one
- 36:32Speaker 1: of the things the beginning of the year, how important
- 36:34Speaker 1: it was that we continue to adapt and be creative
- 36:37Speaker 1: and in our bliss packages and on our alignments and
- 36:40Speaker 1: evolving with what we currently do and not get stagnant.
- 36:44Speaker 1: And except where we're at a defensive unit, I think
- 36:47Speaker 1: we've done that to an extent because things have not improved. Now,
- 36:51Speaker 1: when things are good, that's where marginal gains little by
- 36:54Speaker 1: little become tougher because you are doing well, it is tougher.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Just need to be better. They need to be better.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Like that's well when you.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Look at the because going into the game, Wisconsin did
- 37:07Speaker 2: not have an offensive coordinator, their play caller was the
- 37:10Speaker 2: tight end coach who has never called the play before.
- 37:12Speaker 2: They're on their backup freshman quarterback, their number one wide
- 37:15Speaker 2: receivers out, and we were missing Tommy Hill, who we
- 37:19Speaker 2: could argue, sire Right's been better than Tommy Hill has
- 37:22Speaker 2: been all year. Like we should have feasted and we
- 37:27Speaker 2: did not. We were very like I think if they
- 37:29Speaker 2: don't miss those field goals, it's a totally different game
- 37:31Speaker 2: because all of a sudden, it's thirteen fourteen probably going
- 37:34Speaker 2: into half, or thirteen twenty one going into half. Probably
- 37:38Speaker 2: don't have that fumble which was not which I mean
- 37:42Speaker 2: that was not I mean the defense caused the fumble,
- 37:45Speaker 2: but yeah, it was.
- 37:48Speaker 1: It just it felt like we were I'm not going
- 37:50Speaker 1: to say that we were lucky, but we were here.
- 37:51Speaker 2: On the right side.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Yeah, call it the fifty to fifty balls and.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Yes, for the first time in a while, Yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 1: But I'm not I'm the whole luck and the like
- 38:05Speaker 1: balls that bounces our way like it does.
- 38:07Speaker 2: It does.
- 38:07Speaker 1: It feels like that. I still don't. I still don't
- 38:10Speaker 1: believe in the myths behind a lot of those things
- 38:13Speaker 1: and rules. Use the word snake bitten like three, like
- 38:17Speaker 1: five times in the last two weeks because I think
- 38:21Speaker 1: that's that's the word and the feeling that Husker fans
- 38:24Speaker 1: have had for several several years.
- 38:26Speaker 2: But there's just it honestly felt this game was like
- 38:29Speaker 2: it's going our way today, Like yep, that fumble, the
- 38:33Speaker 2: missed field goals they got they missed the field goal
- 38:36Speaker 2: on the second attempt after they accidentally ran the clock down,
- 38:40Speaker 2: like correct.
- 38:41Speaker 1: I do think that's still a product though, of of
- 38:44Speaker 1: not the Wisconsin missing a field goals, the product of
- 38:46Speaker 1: our players making plays. It's just a product though, of
- 38:50Speaker 1: everything with the program, the way the game's going, momentum,
- 38:52Speaker 1: they the everything about it like it's a product of
- 38:57Speaker 1: the game itself.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Right, So.
- 39:00Speaker 1: People call bad luck or whatever, like I guess it.
- 39:03Speaker 1: It felt like when the ball bounces off of art
- 39:06Speaker 1: or USCS guy's hands and drills us in the helmet
- 39:09Speaker 1: and then back in his hand for him to get
- 39:10Speaker 1: a first down like last week, it does. It's like,
- 39:13Speaker 1: oh my god, like that never happens.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Like yeah, I think. I also think us getting like
- 39:18Speaker 2: the huge lead a half just allowed us just to
- 39:20Speaker 2: like I think the pressure not was off, but it's
- 39:23Speaker 2: like okay, like we've got them in position. We don't
- 39:27Speaker 2: need to worry about losing this Bowl game thing as
- 39:29Speaker 2: much the fans. I think I wasn't a memorial. It
- 39:33Speaker 2: sounded pretty loud, but this is one of those games
- 39:35Speaker 2: where if Wisconsin goes up fourteen to seven, I think
- 39:39Speaker 2: this the stadium just dies.
- 39:43Speaker 1: It's huge. It was a huge game. And I found
- 39:46Speaker 1: where we had it kind of on our importance rank list,
- 39:49Speaker 1: and I guess where we rank Wisconsin coming into the year,
- 39:52Speaker 1: not that that really matters. Austin, you had him at
- 39:54Speaker 1: nine back, you had him at five because you were
- 39:56Speaker 1: huge on Tyler Van Dyke. I had him at six.
- 40:01Speaker 2: But when it.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Came to like importance, like we had the It's funny
- 40:05Speaker 1: we had the Wisconsin game like in line with UCLA, Rutgers,
- 40:09Speaker 1: in USC like in Illinois like that that was that
- 40:13Speaker 1: group we you know, more most important games we had
- 40:17Speaker 1: like UTEP, Indiana, Purdue, Colorado. Guess what we won those games?
- 40:21Speaker 1: Iowa is the other one that we have very high importance.
- 40:25Speaker 1: So it's funny, like it's a just we'll say it,
- 40:29Speaker 1: another one of those games. It's another one of those
- 40:33Speaker 1: mid big ten tier teams that any given week either
- 40:38Speaker 1: team to beat the other team, and we were the
- 40:41Speaker 1: better team today.
- 40:42Speaker 2: I just feel like we've had especially like on the
- 40:44Speaker 2: defense side, but we just haven't had that game where
- 40:47Speaker 2: it's like, oh, this guy dominated this game. Like there
- 40:49Speaker 2: hasn't been a stand up defensive player in a couple.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Of weeks ever since Cardio game. Yeah, I don't feel
- 40:56Speaker 3: like that anyone's like campletly control the game on defensive
- 41:02Speaker 3: side of the ball. Mm. And that's another I canna
- 41:06Speaker 3: say this. That's another fault about rule too is playing
- 41:09Speaker 3: Tommy Hill when he said he said this week that
- 41:12Speaker 3: he was like fifty to seventy five percent and he
- 41:14Speaker 3: just wanted to play him because he thought it would
- 41:15Speaker 3: be the best option. I don't looking back on that.
- 41:20Speaker 3: If he's hurt, you can't play that guy like.
- 41:24Speaker 1: It's because he was the best overall rated player on
- 41:26Speaker 1: the I get like, not that the reason, but he
- 41:28Speaker 1: was hyped up to be so good that you feel
- 41:31Speaker 1: like you have an obligation to play him. Same reason
- 41:33Speaker 1: with the Fidoni thing. There's an obligation to play because
- 41:36Speaker 1: he's his five star recruit. And then you bring in
- 41:38Speaker 1: a random outsider, not Dana Holdgerson did nothing with Tommy Hill,
- 41:41Speaker 1: but he just is like, no, this guy's not good,
- 41:44Speaker 1: like why are we playing it?
- 41:45Speaker 3: Which it hurts your team like you.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Get blinded blinded. You get blinded by expectations that you
- 41:52Speaker 1: have from whenever you recruited the guy or whenever you
- 41:58Speaker 1: whatever you remember from the first few times he played
- 42:00Speaker 1: what they did last year, instead of actually taking a
- 42:03Speaker 1: step back and evaluating everybody that's out there. You get
- 42:05Speaker 1: blinded by it. That's why having fresh set of eyes
- 42:08Speaker 1: on stuff constantly it is very helpful with guys that
- 42:12Speaker 1: you trust.
- 42:15Speaker 3: What is he hurt with? Is it turftoe or what
- 42:18Speaker 3: turfe is? What there is like it lingers with the
- 42:23Speaker 3: corner and stuff like you see you see all the
- 42:25Speaker 3: time in NFL, Like you can't as a cornerback, you
- 42:28Speaker 3: can't play at turf doe like And they finally stand
- 42:30Speaker 3: down and I guess defense looked better.
- 42:34Speaker 2: I don't know, like and defense did not want to
- 42:37Speaker 2: say the defense looked better.
- 42:39Speaker 1: But John Hole, thank you. That's my next next point.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Oh Mantle got a little streak going here.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Eight in a row, I believe it is is whatever
- 42:50Speaker 1: it and it's not like these squeezing things in or
- 42:54Speaker 1: it's it's floating in like he's drilling these suckers. Like
- 43:00Speaker 1: it's so funny where our mind's gone on our kicking
- 43:02Speaker 1: game from the beginning of the year where it was
- 43:04Speaker 1: at to where we I mean we were. We were
- 43:06Speaker 1: at the point everybody was probably coaching included, we didn't
- 43:10Speaker 1: want to kick an extra point, like we were done
- 43:13Speaker 1: with the kicking game completely. And now look where we're
- 43:17Speaker 1: at now. That's that's very impressive. And shout out to
- 43:21Speaker 1: John Hole for you know, physically, but very much mentally
- 43:25Speaker 1: getting to the point where we're at now to where
- 43:27Speaker 1: we were we trust our kicker again and Husker fans
- 43:31Speaker 1: do it, and it gets it's glossed over because a
- 43:33Speaker 1: little bit of it is, yeah, we're a Big ten school,
- 43:37Speaker 1: we should be able to make field goals that we
- 43:40Speaker 1: should be able to make like part of it. But
- 43:43Speaker 1: when the stuff that was going on the beginning of
- 43:45Speaker 1: the year, but we couldn't even get a snap in
- 43:47Speaker 1: a hole down.
- 43:51Speaker 2: It is.
- 43:51Speaker 1: It's very impressive where that's come along, and it's worth
- 43:54Speaker 1: noting it gives you a little bit of confidence again
- 43:57Speaker 1: for kicking in the future.
- 44:01Speaker 3: There's there's no one on the teams to get the
- 44:03Speaker 3: transfer portal quicker than a Alvana though.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I guess I'm gonna say who cares?
- 44:08Speaker 3: But I mean, I don't know what happened with John
- 44:13Speaker 3: Hold though, because what game was where he came in
- 44:15Speaker 3: the first time and he just can't even make a
- 44:17Speaker 3: thirty yarder.
- 44:20Speaker 1: He couldn't make one in practice early in the field
- 44:23Speaker 1: goal in practice, so and it's weird.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Kicking is like because it's like you got to recruit
- 44:27Speaker 2: me be a kicker, you know, He's not like but
- 44:30Speaker 2: to be like, yeah, you want to hold practice out
- 44:32Speaker 2: making and it's like that's all just to do this
- 44:34Speaker 2: is all he does.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Like it's a lot of the yips, and you know,
- 44:41Speaker 1: I think, how do you how do you get yourself
- 44:43Speaker 1: out of the yips? And golf, You just gotta keep practicing,
- 44:46Speaker 1: You gotta you have to just keep going at it
- 44:49Speaker 1: and put in more time and time and time. If
- 44:51Speaker 1: it's something you're truly passionate and that's your that's your
- 44:54Speaker 1: passion like that, that's what that's what John Hold did.
- 44:57Speaker 1: That's your that's your job. That's why you got recruited.
- 45:00Speaker 1: You know you can do it, but you have to
- 45:02Speaker 1: put in the time and effort to get there. So
- 45:04Speaker 1: it is, it's impressive with what he was able to do.
- 45:08Speaker 1: So with all of this, what year is a freshman?
- 45:12Speaker 3: This year Johnald's a freshman. Okay, so yeah, you'll you'll
- 45:16Speaker 3: bring him back again, Like, okay, that's good.
- 45:19Speaker 1: With all of this, the thing that gives me the
- 45:21Speaker 1: most hope and I think I was going to tell
- 45:25Speaker 1: us a lot, but Rule's best quote coming out of
- 45:28Speaker 1: this game was that this is the first and last
- 45:30Speaker 1: time when we will be celebrating six wins. I know
- 45:34Speaker 1: we've talked about Rule guaranteeing and saying things before. I
- 45:38Speaker 1: just I think that's not that's not being cocky, that's
- 45:41Speaker 1: just basically laying it out that we're going to celebrate this.
- 45:45Speaker 2: We're gonna it's been hard to get here, but we've
- 45:48Speaker 2: been Now we're here.
- 45:49Speaker 1: We're here, and we shouldn't we shouldn't have to do
- 45:51Speaker 1: this again, like it celebrating this. We need to. But
- 45:55Speaker 1: at the same time, it kind of is it's kind
- 45:59Speaker 1: of shitty that we're celebrating getting to a ball game,
- 46:01Speaker 1: Like it just sucks. That's where we're as a program,
- 46:04Speaker 1: and we don't ever want to be here again, so
- 46:05Speaker 1: let's continue to build on it. Like that's the message
- 46:07Speaker 1: that that line. It's very it's very it's one sentence,
- 46:10Speaker 1: but it's very powerful in everything that it means for
- 46:14Speaker 1: how everybody, I guess should be thinking about it and
- 46:17Speaker 1: enjoying it. They do. There's there's fans out there that
- 46:21Speaker 1: I think it's ridiculous that we store in the field
- 46:23Speaker 1: that that shouldn't even have been questioned, and it's stupid
- 46:26Speaker 1: that we're celebrating it, Like what why Why is our
- 46:28Speaker 1: expectation that it is to make a ball game? Why
- 46:31Speaker 1: is that our goal?
- 46:31Speaker 2: Now?
- 46:31Speaker 1: Well?
- 46:32Speaker 2: But what one is?
- 46:34Speaker 1: Well, it's it's where we're at. What do you want
- 46:36Speaker 1: to be? So with Scott Frost, I mean there were
- 46:41Speaker 1: times that I I was I wanted us to lose
- 46:43Speaker 1: so that he would get fired and everybody would get
- 46:45Speaker 1: to that point, right, We're we're not there with the rule.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Nobody is. I don't think like there's questions, but nobody
- 46:51Speaker 1: was like I hope we lose a rule can get
- 46:52Speaker 1: the hell out of here. Like that wasn't that wasn't
- 46:55Speaker 1: the the vibe yet, but it was getting there. It's
- 46:59Speaker 1: just basic. Could let people move back to wherever they
- 47:02Speaker 1: want to be on the spectrum of the hope and
- 47:04Speaker 1: the potential for the football program under rules tenure, And
- 47:10Speaker 1: here we are. So I think that was a very
- 47:12Speaker 1: very powerful line. Means a lot. It's been floating around
- 47:14Speaker 1: a lot. I think that it's true to where we're
- 47:17Speaker 1: at right now. Anything else more else specific about the game,
- 47:23Speaker 1: because I didn't tell you we're going to do this
- 47:25Speaker 1: next little topic, but it's worth doing based on that
- 47:28Speaker 1: real comment. So since we're enjoying it and we're gonna
- 47:33Speaker 1: love it, we're gonna be happy with it. Let's talk
- 47:35Speaker 1: bowl games, Let's talk locations, let's talk.
- 47:39Speaker 2: You're going in December and January this year?
- 47:42Speaker 1: Unfortunately I won't be going.
- 47:46Speaker 3: There's one opponent Hunter will go to.
- 47:48Speaker 1: There's one that I will heavily consider, not gonna say will,
- 47:51Speaker 1: but we'll have a lot more sway if we have
- 47:55Speaker 1: a battle of dak in Hunter, oh Nebraska. So here, here,
- 48:00Speaker 1: here's what here's what we've heard and this is. This
- 48:03Speaker 1: has been out there a lot now, both projections that
- 48:06Speaker 1: have come and gone, oh here in the last several weeks,
- 48:11Speaker 1: and we've been in it, guaranteed in it when we
- 48:13Speaker 1: were five and one, and then now the last couple
- 48:14Speaker 1: of weeks we've been projected not to make it. But
- 48:17Speaker 1: here is and this is from college football news background.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I guess a lot of people probably know this. Bowl
- 48:24Speaker 1: games are tied to conferences, and basically, the bowl games
- 48:29Speaker 1: get to drafts and they get a pick and there's
- 48:30Speaker 1: an order to how it goes, and as long as
- 48:34Speaker 1: you're bowl eligible, you're eligible to be there. There's conference affiliations. However,
- 48:40Speaker 1: this year is weird because the four former Pac twelve
- 48:44Speaker 1: teams Oregon, U c l A, USC, and Washington are
- 48:48Speaker 1: also eligible for the former Pac twelve both ties and
- 48:51Speaker 1: affiliations which were contracted in and remained in contract through
- 48:55Speaker 1: this year. So there's another element that those teams teams
- 49:00Speaker 1: which Oregon obviously is well eligible, they're probably going to
- 49:02Speaker 1: the playoffs that nix is them, but Washington, USC and
- 49:06Speaker 1: U c L A, who are all teetering right around
- 49:08Speaker 1: that bowl eligibility mark, and maybe a couple of them
- 49:10Speaker 1: are I'm not entirely sure.
- 49:13Speaker 3: He's done, right, I don't, I don't, I don't know.
- 49:18Speaker 3: I'm gonna look at that.
- 49:20Speaker 1: So not that that's the end all be all the
- 49:23Speaker 1: conversation here. But those teams all can make, but there's
- 49:28Speaker 1: four five other goals that they could fall into, so
- 49:31Speaker 1: they're eligible to get drafted in those. I don't know
- 49:34Speaker 1: how that order goes, but anyways, playoffs obviously come first
- 49:39Speaker 1: because obviously a guaranteed Big Ten team to make the playoffs,
- 49:44Speaker 1: probably expecting two or three teams. I doubt that we
- 49:48Speaker 1: get to four in the Big Ten. I think that
- 49:49Speaker 1: would be a put or a stretch to get four
- 49:52Speaker 1: in this year. But we're probably thinking, I don't know,
- 49:57Speaker 1: could it could you're right one Oregon, Ohio State, Indiana,
- 50:02Speaker 1: Penn State. I mean that that would be your four
- 50:04Speaker 1: yea that we're talking about. That all maybe could get in.
- 50:08Speaker 1: But if you know one of those don't, I guess
- 50:11Speaker 1: the first I would say they're probably going to be
- 50:13Speaker 1: the first pick. The first pick here is the cheese
- 50:16Speaker 1: at Citrus School, and that is going to be against
- 50:19Speaker 1: an SEC team. I would guess that if one of
- 50:23Speaker 1: those teams don't get in, like I said, that's that's
- 50:25Speaker 1: where they're going that. The next one is the relya
- 50:29Speaker 1: Quest Bowl also verse an SEC team that one is
- 50:35Speaker 1: played in.
- 50:39Speaker 3: As a boy, I kind of think where that is.
- 50:45Speaker 1: I I don't know where that's at. I was find location,
- 50:47Speaker 1: Decide doesn't have it, but it's on December thirty first.
- 50:51Speaker 1: But Duke's Male Bowl is the next one that gets
- 50:54Speaker 1: to pick. This is one that we've seen some people have.
- 50:58Speaker 1: That one's in Carolina's.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Relia Quest is in Tampa's.
- 51:01Speaker 1: In Tampa, Okay. So there's a Tampa Bowl that would
- 51:03Speaker 1: be like, I don't know that. I mean, that'd be ambitious,
- 51:09Speaker 1: But I think the importantly to talk about here, and
- 51:11Speaker 1: they talked about it a little bit on the postgame show.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Because of the way our fans travel, and especially if
- 51:17Speaker 1: we beat Iowa and our momentums rolling our like win
- 51:22Speaker 1: total value versus being six or seven is it's inflated
- 51:25Speaker 1: by about one and a half. We're viewed as like
- 51:28Speaker 1: a seven to eight win, nine win team to these
- 51:30Speaker 1: bullpickers because of how we're going to travel and generate
- 51:33Speaker 1: revenue for the bowl game. So rely Quest Bowl versus
- 51:38Speaker 1: SEC team, that one's in the Carolinas, Duke's Mayo No, sorry,
- 51:42Speaker 1: that one's in Tampa. Duke's Mayo Bowl is the one
- 51:44Speaker 1: to gainst an ACC team in the Carolinas. The Music
- 51:48Speaker 1: City Bowl. That one's in Nashville. That's also an SEC opponent.
- 51:55Speaker 1: I think the general is we're going to be in
- 51:58Speaker 1: one of those three.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Yeah, they say that that's probably the end of the line,
- 52:01Speaker 2: and we get picked before it. Because that was seven bowls, correct,
- 52:05Speaker 2: six bowls you listed off?
- 52:08Speaker 1: There's that, that's four. That's four I listed up there.
- 52:11Speaker 1: So just to look at who's bowl eligible right now
- 52:14Speaker 1: in the big ten, let's just let's let's throw the
- 52:17Speaker 1: scenario out there that those four get in. I mean, here,
- 52:19Speaker 1: here's here's your options right now there, and there's quite
- 52:22Speaker 1: a few. So, I mean, USC is bull eligible now,
- 52:25Speaker 1: and so is Washington. So those are two teams that potentially,
- 52:29Speaker 1: I would guess are probably gonna fall in those pack
- 52:33Speaker 1: twelve bowls. Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Rutgers are all eligible
- 52:42Speaker 1: right now.
- 52:43Speaker 3: There's several, So they'll pick Nebraska over those guys.
- 52:47Speaker 1: We'll see, Like, I mean, Illinois obviously branked. They're eight
- 52:51Speaker 1: and three as well, but you when you're when you're
- 52:56Speaker 1: picking this ball game, are you saying, Okay, well Illinois
- 52:58Speaker 1: beat Nebraska, so Illinois better than nebra. We want the
- 53:00Speaker 1: better teams. We want Illinois to come to to Tampa.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Because you know that that makes sense. I don't. I
- 53:07Speaker 1: don't think they think about it that way. I think
- 53:10Speaker 1: people can get upset about it, but I don't. There's
- 53:13Speaker 1: bowl games are independent. It's not like nca A tournament seeding.
- 53:17Speaker 1: They're they're they're thinking about the revenue and the matchup
- 53:20Speaker 1: and who they play. I don't think when you look
- 53:22Speaker 1: at a matchup that Illinois is anymore intriguing to play
- 53:24Speaker 1: a l s U in Nebraska LSU. But in it
- 53:30Speaker 1: that way, so I do think it's gonna be probably
- 53:32Speaker 1: one of those four. It's not like they rank the teams,
- 53:35Speaker 1: and I don't think that's how that works. Maybe I'm
- 53:38Speaker 1: wrong on that, But the Pin Stripe Bowl in New
- 53:41Speaker 1: York guaranteed rate bowl. I have no idea where that's that.
- 53:43Speaker 1: That's against a Big twelve team. That'd be the one
- 53:46Speaker 1: that maybe we could play against k State, which would
- 53:48Speaker 1: be kind of fun. And then the last one is
- 53:50Speaker 1: the game above. Sports Bowl couldn't tell you against a
- 53:53Speaker 1: MAX school that has that has Rutgers name written all over.
- 53:59Speaker 3: It, Minnesota, like they played in that Bowl again last years.
- 54:03Speaker 2: In Arizona, Okay.
- 54:09Speaker 1: So anyways, those are our options where we could go.
- 54:13Speaker 1: I got my uh Nebraska or Huskers tickets announcement on
- 54:18Speaker 1: on how to apply for tickets and get those again.
- 54:21Speaker 1: I don't think I'll be able to go, but uh,
- 54:23Speaker 1: it's fun. We've never done this before on the podcast.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Since we started and looked at where all these bull
- 54:30Speaker 1: games are and what time they are and who it
- 54:32Speaker 1: could be against. I do think like opponents that would
- 54:35Speaker 1: be fun to play. I think Oklahoma would be fun
- 54:38Speaker 1: and that could be a potential matchup. A lot of
- 54:41Speaker 1: these are SEC schools, acc I think we're going to
- 54:44Speaker 1: get paired with somebody that we're probably going to be
- 54:46Speaker 1: an underdog against.
- 54:47Speaker 2: I'm just.
- 54:50Speaker 3: That's the one. I think that's in places Miszoo. I
- 54:53Speaker 3: would love for in Braska Oklahoma, but I think it'll
- 54:56Speaker 3: be Missouri.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it could be an maybe that one. We could
- 55:01Speaker 1: be favored, and I just think we're probably gonna be
- 55:02Speaker 1: an underdog just because of us getting inflated a little bit,
- 55:06Speaker 1: because of our fans but that that makes the opportunity
- 55:09Speaker 1: that much greater. Show what we can do with this
- 55:13Speaker 1: extra practice time and rule setate we spent or we
- 55:18Speaker 1: missed out on it. It was over one hundred practices
- 55:20Speaker 1: in the last eight years. You don't think that matters.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Practice. We're talking about practice. Yeah, yeah, good to be bowling.
- 55:36Speaker 2: And then men's basketball absolutely lockdown Creighton amazingly. I apologize
- 55:43Speaker 2: to my Huskers. I had zero faith in you as
- 55:46Speaker 2: a basketball.
- 55:46Speaker 3: Program, but you guys were all wearing blue on Friday
- 55:49Speaker 3: and red Saturday.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Okay, so yeah, let's let's move here onto basketball.
- 56:00Speaker 2: Books.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Why hatred for Creighton. I haven't thought myself to really
- 56:06Speaker 1: hate Creighton that much, but the more and more I
- 56:10Speaker 1: watch every year, it just increases. And what Hoiberg said
- 56:19Speaker 1: last week about the fans and about creating it, like
- 56:22Speaker 1: I was like, I listened to that comment, I'm like,
- 56:24Speaker 1: that was awesome, great, Like I kind of laughed, but
- 56:26Speaker 1: then I started thinking about it. And then I watched
- 56:28Speaker 1: that game and then we kicked their ass, and I
- 56:30Speaker 1: watched the fans and I'm like thinking myself, Okay, these
- 56:33Speaker 1: fans are like, remember these are Husker football fans, Like
- 56:36Speaker 1: they a lot of them, are not all of them.
- 56:38Speaker 1: There's some Iowa fans that are creating fans. There's more
- 56:40Speaker 1: Iowa fans and people probably think in Omaha. But you
- 56:44Speaker 1: start thinking about that, I'm like, you know what, all
- 56:46Speaker 1: these fans and I've talked about it a lot of
- 56:48Speaker 1: this podcast, and I think the fans are a big
- 56:49Speaker 1: problem of where we're at a Huscar football.
- 56:51Speaker 2: I think it is.
- 56:52Speaker 1: I think are fans and everything that goes with it,
- 56:55Speaker 1: but expectations, pressure, real, unrealistic hype on these players and
- 57:01Speaker 1: and therefore this downward spiral. And I'll say it, let's
- 57:06Speaker 1: go back to why, why the hell did we ever
- 57:08Speaker 1: get away from being this national title contender? Well, the
- 57:11Speaker 1: fans got bored. We got bored of winning back in
- 57:14Speaker 1: We got bored because we were so good, and so
- 57:17Speaker 1: we decided to change everything up. And fans went nuts
- 57:19Speaker 1: when Callahan came here and changed everything up, which is
- 57:23Speaker 1: guess what Wisconsin just is doing right now. So our fans,
- 57:27Speaker 1: I think are a big part of the problem. But
- 57:28Speaker 1: I started to think more about it. I'm like, it's
- 57:32Speaker 1: the Creighton fans, It's the Jaskers that are the problem.
- 57:36Speaker 1: It's the ones that I'm I'm generalizing this. Not everybody
- 57:40Speaker 1: falls into this bucket. I'm not calling out.
- 57:43Speaker 2: No, just dig in.
- 57:44Speaker 1: But I'm passionately I went and I'm gonna keep that.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Maybe I won't, but we'll see. Creighton are. And I'm
- 57:53Speaker 1: not saying all white collar people are bad people, but
- 57:55Speaker 1: they're the white collar Everything's given to me. I don't
- 57:59Speaker 1: want to hard. I look at Stephen Ashworth, I'm like, yep,
- 58:03Speaker 1: that's you. I look at Culburner, I'm like, yep, that's you.
- 58:05Speaker 1: The ones that complain, they make excuses. I watch that.
- 58:10Speaker 1: You see it all They don't. They don't want to
- 58:11Speaker 1: put in the extra, they don't want to be determined.
- 58:13Speaker 1: I watched that and I was thinking, this is white
- 58:15Speaker 1: collar versus blue collar. This is big town versus small town,
- 58:18Speaker 1: even though Lincoln's not I mean, Lincoln's our second biggest
- 58:21Speaker 1: city in Nebraska. But it's the Creton fans that that
- 58:24Speaker 1: drink the kool aid and do all the stupid hoorrah expectations,
- 58:28Speaker 1: and then when it comes to the game, they pal
- 58:30Speaker 1: and they don't like to cheer loud and and they
- 58:32Speaker 1: just get all you know, they think they're all on.
- 58:34Speaker 1: I'll say it they have all the money, so they
- 58:35Speaker 1: didn't think they can just throw the money around. And
- 58:38Speaker 1: I'm generalizing. I'm generalizing, but I think those are the fans.
- 58:44Speaker 1: They're the problem. They're the ones that are hurting Husker football.
- 58:51Speaker 1: And I like it was hitting me all at once
- 58:53Speaker 1: watching and I'm like, god, I want to beat them
- 58:55Speaker 1: so and so when we won Friday night, it was like, oh,
- 58:57Speaker 1: it was so good.
- 58:58Speaker 2: I have it.
- 58:59Speaker 1: I'm I have not hated Creighton really, but now I
- 59:02Speaker 1: kind of do. Like I I started realizing watching it,
- 59:05Speaker 1: and I'm going to keep the blue and the red
- 59:07Speaker 1: colors and the political off off of the podcast. But
- 59:13Speaker 1: that also hit home with me. It just a lot
- 59:16Speaker 1: of it. It just was very real to why this
- 59:21Speaker 1: fan opinion that I have, who they are, the type
- 59:24Speaker 1: of people that I know fall into that category. And
- 59:26Speaker 1: my certain like friend circle like, yeah, it's it's the Jayskers.
- 59:32Speaker 1: It's they're the problem. And so after that game got over,
- 59:35Speaker 1: I'm like, stay up in Omaha, don't come down to
- 59:37Speaker 1: the game, keep your blue on, go cry a hole
- 59:39Speaker 1: on Saturday. And I hope you do that and stay
- 59:41Speaker 1: away from the stadium. I don't want you here. Uh
- 59:44Speaker 1: that's that's my Jaysker take. I think they're the problem,
- 59:46Speaker 1: and I wanted to make sure that's clear. And it's
- 59:50Speaker 1: great beating you. It's great to keep the state red.
- 59:52Speaker 1: It is it? Oh man? I hit home and I
- 59:56Speaker 1: right now I'm stuck on that take. I'm like, I'm
- 59:59Speaker 1: so tunnel visioned on it if you listen to this
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: in your a Jaysker, but it's the truth right now
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: in my mind.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Uh gosh, it feels good. I also just I've never
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: liked the Blue Jays. I'll root for them in the
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: tournament when Nebraska is not there because it's like, well,
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: this is what we got and.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I'm not anymore. I kind of did a little bit, but.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: I'm not devastating with it. It's like, yeah, if Creaton
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: could advance, that'd be cool, but I'm not watching their games.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: McDermott. I don't like.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Freaking lockdown Colchbreader zero for one for field goal and
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: our team is small, like, I mean, we're not.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Brax and Mea going up against him and us is
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: styling the crap and we had three guys in bout
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: trouble against them. We're just here, just and he was
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: just bitching the way he whinding, I'm like you like that,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: That's why all this stuff came out on like we
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: have these blue collar like we have this guy with
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: a mullet from North Dakota State and all you're gonna
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: do is whine as we're kicking your ass. I'm like,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: this is what this is all about.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: I love like we got up big somehow, Like it
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: just it wasn't like we did anything incredible. It's just
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: on defense we were able to keep them out of
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: their flow and call Brenner's kind of their offense, and
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: then we just got this big lead. And sure Creton
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: did chip into a little bit. I think they pulled
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: it with it.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: I don't think it got blown nine ever, because because
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: because during the game when it got denied, we're like,
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: oh boy, here we go.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: But then it's just like, no, no, we're stepping on
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: your freaking throat.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Like we out coached the crap out of the bred
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Weiberg six and eight.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: Against franked opponents the last two years. Right, that's pretty
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: freaking good.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so impressive. And I'll continue to give this guy
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: praise because I love watching him when I go to
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: games and then on TV, Nate Lenzer is a damn
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: good defensive coach. He's one that sits on the end
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: of the bench. He's always in the moment, always energetic,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: he knows exactly what he wants with his identity of
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: his system, and he knows how to coach it. I'll
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: be honest, it's different than how I think as a
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: basketball coach. Defensively, the our Nebraska defense is very schematic.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: It's their scout obviously involved a lot of it, but
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: it's very very schematic based. I'm gonna run this and
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna make it tough for you to score on it.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Versus I guess how I like to think is I'm
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: gonna take away what your players do and we're gonna
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: adjust what we do to make sure that these people
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: aren't able to beat us. Obviously, every different level it's different.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I think the higher up you get, the more schematic
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: based type defenses work. And he's doing a tremendous job.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: What I loved about the way we guarded Calk Brenner
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: and their stats leading up to the game, and God,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I'm so glad we don't ever play him again because
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I hate watching him. We we've we've held them. I
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: can't remember the stats. I was like twelve eight and
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: eleven or something in the last three years, like basically
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: held him in check based on what he averages the
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: past few years. We guarded him completely different this year
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: than we have those three years. Think about that from
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: a coach's perspective. You stopped this guy doing what you
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: know how to do well last year when Lenzer was here,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: and I think maybe the year before that doing it
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: a certain way. This year you come in with a
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: different approach to stop him. But guess what, it worked
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: the best of all of them. And because that approach
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: this year, and just to specify what it was, last year,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: we did a lot of sitting on the high side
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: behind and it worked well against e. D two and
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: when when Culburner caught it, we automatically doubled and swarmed it.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: This year, we just fronted the crap out of him,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: and then backside had a guy sitting right there. They
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: couldn't even get the ball into him. So what did
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: that do? It forced him to come outside and now
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: he had they had to run some player the ball
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: and they still couldn't give him the ball. And then
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: when he did get the ball, we found the crap
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: out of him, made him go to the free throw
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: line and he missed free throws and he's normally a
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: good free throw. Oh it was just so good.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: And you played, I mean you played thirty nine minutes
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: and had one field goal so good, so good, Oh
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: my gosh.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: Like you said, they couldn't even get the ball to him, like.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: No, And so then when when you're when you're as
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: an offense, when you're going against that, and then you go,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: we can't get the ball. I guess we're gonna start
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: shooting threes.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Well guess what.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: They weren't making them early on which this last year
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: different story. They shot the crap out of it against
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: us and they ran out of the gym. This year
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: they didn't, well well okay, then you go, we're not
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: shooting it. Well okay, well we gotta get the ball inside,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: but we can't. So I got they gotta keep shooting it.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: It's so hard. Then you just get so mentally out
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: of it from Creighton was and it was so awesome
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: to watch because you could tell McDermott was like I
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: don't know what to do, like it's it's like we're done.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: It was a awesome it was so fun to watch,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: and I kept saying, like, there's no way we're gonna
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: still not blow this. We're gonna We had a.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Couple We did have a couple of scoring droughts. We
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: had two three plus minute scoring routes. Yep, that's scary.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: That's not gonna work against every team. But we luckily
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: had gonna plead.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: The bract was on like at one point, like an
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: eleven oh run for like seven minutes, which is nuts.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Like like like creating a nine points with like eight
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: seven minutes left in the first half, right, it's oh, So.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: It was our offense did not win that game, where.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: The defensive performance was nuts. That that was someone from
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: you is probably the best they've ever saw. It was
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: now years ago. It was the same thing, though.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: It was on offense. We found ourselves though, I will
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: say and while it wasn't our greatest offensive game, I
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: think we found some things that you can build off of,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Like Bryce Williams is mid range game. Creighton was gonna
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: give that early on coming on, tremendous job taking advantage
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: of it. Juwan Gary was actually then able to play
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: off of and I'm gonna say it Connor season who.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: They said it. They said it on the radio, they
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: said it on TV. It got a little case a
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: rolling him. He came off a couple of screens. And
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: it has another good mid range game too. You get
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: guys like that that can do that. All of a sudden,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Juan Gary gets driving lanes. They are able then to
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: isolate Juwan Gary on people because they get switches, because
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: guys are threats on the court to score. Now, I
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: don't know our big man, I'm not sure how that's
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: gonna work. We had, I don't know if you guys
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: watched close enough. We had Kale Jacobson playing our five
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: man at one spot. Ye in the first half that
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: you're but like, that's what I'm saying. It's it's kind
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: of amazing that we can just plug and chug a
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: guy like that in and and it and it at
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: work be fine. Like he was guarding cult prender this
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: This guy had an Ashland like So.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: It was awesome.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: I mean it, it was awesome.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we didn't lose the rebounding battle. They had a
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: set like I just could not believe we were pickpocketing them.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: They could not take care of the ball, Like, what
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: a way to start the weekend.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: It was great. I sent the first round stuff game,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: turn the locations out, like where we going. That's the
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: only thing I'm going to those no matter what, like
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: until we win this one of these dang things, but
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: it does. It gave you hope again. Obviously we didn't
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: beat Saint Mary's, uh, but that was a close game,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: and it was close. But this is definitely it's a
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: quad one win and it will be the rest of
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: the year. Assuming Creighton plays well, I'm gonna make it
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: to conference play. Our non conference schedule is one now
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: that we have to take advantage of from here now
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: until we start the conference play against teams that we
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: should be able to beat. There's a couple of them
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: that have been playing well, but we we gotta. We
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: can't lay an egg and lose one of those and.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Ugly, there's all. There's one more thing he found her
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: in that game is and that's goggles can't play another
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: second of the season.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: No disagree I did. I do disagree with that? Is
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: that is that you're preferring to No Gavin Griffiths. He
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: had a really bad turnover, really bad and back in
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: I think Gavin Griffiths can still shoot the crap out
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: of the ball. I think he didn't really get a
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: chance to come back in because the season was playing
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: well like he came in and those two guys are
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: there are knockdown shooters, and because we couldn't afford to
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: take Connor off the court, like Gavin didn't get a
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: chance to really come back and redeem himself. He's still
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: gonna play. I still think he can shoot it. He
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: has not shot it great so far through five games,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: but I still think I still think he it's it's
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: gonna be okay for him. But we have he It's
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: like we're deep. We're deep with a bunch of average
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: players and have a couple of these average players can
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: at least get to a little bit like just playmaker
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: type people, then then we're gonna be in a good
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: spot with the way that we're built from a physical
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: standpoint to this year, and we're gonna be okay going
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: into conference playing and playing against some of these Big
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Ten teams, who, by the way, the Big Ten Conference, like, yeah,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: there's a lot of questions. Not great Rutgers just lost
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: last night, you know, Purdue. Maybe it's still pretty decent
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: and good. I think Matt Painter still does. There's just
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: a really damn good job there. But there's gonna there's
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of opportunities for for us to
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: to get to our goals and what we want to
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: accomplish this year. From a basketball team perspective, it's there's
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: a lot going on, like a lot of good.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: I don't want to get ahead of myself. So we
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: break the Bowl game street this year. Maybe it's the
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: year it could be.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: It wouldn't be breaking a streak, that would be uh,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: starting something new.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: Musical up in year, started something new.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Uh. And then I was gonna say, and then Wisconsin.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: I don't like them either, not as much as I
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: don't like Creyton, But yeah, we beat we beat him,
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: swept them at home, not only swept them, but kick
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: their ass and all three sets, swept them.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it was awesome.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Dak. You did not watch that game.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: But no, it didn't.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: It's pretty cool that other game I was watching. We
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: already talked about that, we said we weren't bringing that
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: back up. Here's here's my scare with the volleyball team.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Like I feel like they're playing so well right now
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: that we're not going and it's like, if we get challenging,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: we're gonna be like, oh my god, we're you know,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: we're not very good. We're kicking everybody's ass right now. Like, yes,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: we're working everyone. We played Penn State on Friday, that'll
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: be probably one of the toughest challenges. But Wisconsin's a
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: team that's had our number in volleyball in recent years,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: and we're just we're we swept them back like twice
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: this year on the road and at home.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: I mean, we have one loss. I expect barring the
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Penn State going game game going south, we're gonna get
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: a number one Seaton. We should be.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Number one overall.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: I don't know why we're not number one overall. Pitt
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: has one Pitt loss, has one loss, and they lost
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: the same team we did. But we have a we
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: have better wins if you ask me. But yeah, I
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: also worry about that where we're gonna get to the
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: tournament and we just haven't played anyone challenging enough, and
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: we're gonna get one of those games kind of like
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: the SMU game where someone just serves us out of
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: the gym. Basically, I mean that's how we lost the
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: championship last year to Texas, and that's how we lost
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: SMU earlier this year, Serving just absolutely killed us. But
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: we'll see.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I mean, there's there's definitely some good volleyball teams, right like,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: there's a lot of them, and Louisville is a good
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: but there's no one defeated teams this year correct, So
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: you know, maybe it's a little more deluded, just like
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: every other college board is now. But yeah, Penn State's
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: ranked four, Creighton's actually ranked five for News. Obviously still
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: doing well, but it's like Purdue, we just we kill
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: every time we play them. As the SMU, the team
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: that's won these games, they're still twenty one and six.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Like Texas, who defending national champs, they're fifteen and six
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: this year. It's it's just funny. There's a lot of
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: good teams and not saying that that that were not
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: the best, but there's a lot of good teams out
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: there still that have a lot of losses, that are
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: very easily going to be able to get overlooked. And
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: this team, though, just flank so well. It's like no
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: team's even on our level and maybe the whole like
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: look at our recruiting classes the past few years, and
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: maybe we are just that much more talented and.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: It's just coming together now.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: We should just kick everybody's about every game, like we
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: should just do that.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: Great. I love it on a weekend, I think Colorado
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: loses to Kansas. Oh it was great, just the freaking boards,
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: just being like Colorado fans being like, yeah, you guys
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: kicked our ass, but then we're gonna go to the
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: playoffs and you aren't. I don't think so, man, psych.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: It's good. Weekend is one of the more enjoyable sundays.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Waking up I I, you know, prev for the podcast
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: and researching and then think like they were happy fun thoughts.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: So very good, very good Sunday, very good weekend.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, this is also rare because I actually saw all
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: of it, like I it wasn't like, uh, you know,
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: I heard its like I actually participated in all of it.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the best part of it. Yeah, you can
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: watch and enjoy every single step of it, from the
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: start of Friday to through today.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: I did pour my beer mile, but you know that
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: was Saturday morning.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: So Dak, could you beat Austin a beer mile?
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: No drinking, I'm too slow in the drinking. It's not
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: the running, it's how.
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: Quick as I am for sure, the slow figer you know.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: Okay, well maybe not I can't so I can't chug
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: beer that.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: Well you might have to do this podcast competition.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: I'm in.
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: You can sum it up with what a weekend?
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: That?
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: That was it?
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: What a weekend? What a weekend? Dak says, all right,
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: we'll be back Wednesday. Thanksgiving coming up, so we'll get
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: our midweek episode. Iowa pregame episode out and we no
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: longer have to be praying for a bowl him, but
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: we need to keep seeing progress.
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: That'd be DIA, go b grad g b.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: R BO more sooner and.
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: What school?
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: No, and say go Bigrad you're grad.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: Thank you, m.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: M M
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: D
