- 0:00Speaker 1: Everybody that's his gil And today I give you today's
- 0:03Speaker 1: moment of truth, which I want to tackle tribalism and
- 0:06Speaker 1: why I believe that the only tribe that should matter
- 0:10Speaker 1: at this point with Donald Trump being elected, is that
- 0:13Speaker 1: we should be the tribe of Americans. So the nature
- 0:16Speaker 1: of tribalism in the United States, and the curious case
- 0:21Speaker 1: of the most important tribe of us is the American tribe.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It seems as though we just want to just build,
- 0:27Speaker 1: just break that down and destroy it for all the
- 0:30Speaker 1: bad that has happened in the past, and we forget
- 0:32Speaker 1: to all the good that's happened. So let's take a
- 0:35Speaker 1: little step back. So, tribalism is a natural part of
- 0:38Speaker 1: human sociologies and the instinct that fosters loyalty among members
- 0:42Speaker 1: of a group that share characteristics, and typically that was
- 0:46Speaker 1: a territorial thing based on race. The word tribalism often
- 0:50Speaker 1: carries a negative connotation, and it should. It's roots steeped
- 0:54Speaker 1: in the idea of exclusion, hostilities towards outsiders, and the
- 0:57Speaker 1: ever evolving narrative of American politics, particularly within the Democrat Party.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Tribalism manifests in unique and complex ways. So it's a
- 1:10Speaker 1: crazy subject. But we've been broken down into so many
- 1:14Speaker 1: different groups. So the Democrat Party, traditionally a coalition of
- 1:18Speaker 1: diverse groups advocating for civil rights and social justice, can
- 1:22Speaker 1: also fall prey, fall prey, and has fallen prey to
- 1:26Speaker 1: the concepts of tribalism. You find progressive socialists, moderates, and
- 1:30Speaker 1: various identity groups all grappling for prominence on the political stage.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And while this whole little tapestry adds vibrancy to the party,
- 1:37Speaker 1: it alway illustrates the inherent challenge to their brand of tribalism.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It creates racist of views and ideology, and it separates people.
- 1:48Speaker 1: So these people are always on the quest for inclusivity.
- 1:52Speaker 1: So how do we overlook fundamental threads that bind us all.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So the American identity, a rich blend of cultures and histories,
- 1:58Speaker 1: often faging. Then as individual grievances are, ethnic identities come
- 2:04Speaker 1: to the front. So that's where the problem lies. So
- 2:10Speaker 1: I want to address why the most important tribe, the
- 2:12Speaker 1: American tribe, often finds itself in unfortunate situations. One of
- 2:17Speaker 1: the core reasons is what I like to call the
- 2:19Speaker 1: degradation of the American narrative. So in recent years, we've
- 2:23Speaker 1: seen a significant, growing discourse that emphasizes the nation's failures
- 2:28Speaker 1: over the great things that it does. The narratives are
- 2:32Speaker 1: always around slavery, systemic oppression, racial injustices. These are without
- 2:39Speaker 1: question essential to the discussion, but the risk of oversimplifying
- 2:43Speaker 1: and concluding that America is inherently evil or unjust is
- 2:47Speaker 1: too great. So this is where the pendulum of tribalism
- 2:51Speaker 1: swings dangerously into division. There's a perspective that places the
- 2:54Speaker 1: American founding ideals freedom, opportunity, and democracy into the dumpster
- 2:58Speaker 1: while magnifying reconceivable flaw that has happened in America's past.
- 3:04Speaker 1: In this relentless pursuit for addressing injustices, the national narrative
- 3:08Speaker 1: of resilience, innovation, and unity gets left far behind. The
- 3:12Speaker 1: American tribe, once celebrated for its diversity and achievements, now
- 3:16Speaker 1: struggles for representation. Amienst all these different voices, right, So,
- 3:20Speaker 1: the reason why I consider American and being American is
- 3:26Speaker 1: that at some point we have to come to a
- 3:27Speaker 1: common ground. So the concept of American of America is
- 3:31Speaker 1: this beautiful mosaic of backgrounds, cultes, and philosophies. It thrives
- 3:35Speaker 1: on the notion of unity through diversity. But this is
- 3:38Speaker 1: not merely a slogan. It's a call to action. Right,
- 3:40Speaker 1: it requires effort, empathy, and engagement from every America. Now
- 3:44Speaker 1: here's the kicker. In demonizing the American story or American
- 3:48Speaker 1: in general. We inadvertently undermine the progress we've made. We
- 3:52Speaker 1: tend to forget all the moments of truth right, the
- 3:55Speaker 1: Civil rights movement, the Civil War, all of these different
- 4:00Speaker 1: things that were borders born within the borders of the
- 4:02Speaker 1: American ideals. Is a prime example how the American tribe
- 4:05Speaker 1: has fought not just for one group, for the rights,
- 4:07Speaker 1: for all, progress offering an emergency from recognizing our shared
- 4:10Speaker 1: humanity and united purpose. So what can be done to
- 4:14Speaker 1: bridge the gap and elevate the American tribe. We must
- 4:16Speaker 1: engage in a profound discussion, not too much. We don't
- 4:20Speaker 1: want to pay lace blame, we don't want to isolate,
- 4:23Speaker 1: but we want to acknowledge the pass wrongs but also
- 4:26Speaker 1: celebrate present strengths. And that's where we lose, because for
- 4:29Speaker 1: every narrative of failure and flaw, there are narratives of
- 4:32Speaker 1: triumph and unity and success. But no one ever talks
- 4:35Speaker 1: about it. So when we embrace the American story with
- 4:38Speaker 1: all these crazy complexities, let's not allow the great things
- 4:43Speaker 1: to fade into the background. So dismissing the values, ideals,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and aspirations that brought us together risk further fracturing our society.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And with Donald Trump in office, now that's a greater thing.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So we must idea understand that common ground is an idea,
- 4:58Speaker 1: is a common ground ship unite us, not throw us apart.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So we reflect on this tangled web of the Democrat tribalism,
- 5:09Speaker 1: but we have to remember that we're all part of
- 5:11Speaker 1: the American tribe. We have so much more in common
- 5:13Speaker 1: than what divides us. By reclaiming the American narrative being
- 5:17Speaker 1: an American and highlighting our collective experiences, we can honor
- 5:21Speaker 1: unique identities while also cherishing the essence of what it
- 5:24Speaker 1: means to become an American. So, for all of you
- 5:27Speaker 1: that are listening, if you think about this and you
- 5:31Speaker 1: start thinking about all this, there's always more to the story, right,
- 5:34Speaker 1: So it's time we elevate the voice of the American
- 5:37Speaker 1: tribe and celebrate all of these diverse and backgrounds that
- 5:45Speaker 1: emerge and come together in the single banner, the promise
- 5:48Speaker 1: of being an American. That is the most important thing,
- 5:52Speaker 1: being an American, because no matter what, now that we
- 5:56Speaker 1: have Donald Trump as president, it's going to be crazy.
- 6:01Speaker 1: We're going to be separated like never before. So I
- 6:04Speaker 1: would encourage all of you to just start thinking about
- 6:07Speaker 1: being an American first and go from there, because in
- 6:11Speaker 1: all honesty, nobody owes you anything. I don't owe you anything.
- 6:16Speaker 1: My success has nothing to do with you. I don't
- 6:18Speaker 1: want to share. Fuck you, I don't want to share.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So I believe that we're on the path to more
- 6:25Speaker 1: disruptive behavior. I believe it's going to be pushed forward
- 6:29Speaker 1: by the Democratic narrative and we're going to be in trouble.
- 6:32Speaker 1: These next four years are going to be held. So
- 6:35Speaker 1: this is gil, This is my moment of truth for today.
