My daughter took me to get my nails done before our anniversary trip.

Long.

Chrome.

Cat-eye.

Exactly the kind I'd wanted when I was a little girl.

Growing up, they weren't in the budget.

Then life got busy.

Work.

Marriage.

Kids.

Cancer.

I forgot I had ever wanted them.

A few days later, I picked up the nail clippers.

Typing had become a challenge.

Cooking wasn't much easier.

I was ready to cut them off.

But I couldn't.

I wanted one more day.

And that's when it hit me.

I wasn't trying to keep the nails.

I was giving that little girl one more day to enjoy…
