- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJRFM
- 0:05Speaker 1: Sports Headlines.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Good morning, and I'm brought to you by Frostbrood Coors Light.
- 0:13Speaker 2: As cold as the Rockies. Looks and sounds to me
- 0:16Speaker 2: like Leonard Williams is going to play Sunday when the
- 0:17Speaker 2: Seahawks face the 4-0 49ers for the NFC West lead
- 0:20Speaker 2: at Lumenfield. I watched the Pro Bowl defensive lineman jog
- 0:23Speaker 2: onto the practice field three days after he injured his ankle.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Leighton that win over the Chargers. Seahawks listed him as
- 0:29Speaker 2: a limited participant. Ty Okada was full go for the
- 0:32Speaker 2: first time since he injured his hamstring in late August.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Looks like the starting deep safety is trending toward playing
- 0:38Speaker 2: on Sunday, too.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Now with Nicky Manwari.
- 0:40Speaker 2: In full go mode, it looks like Coach Mike McDonald's
- 0:43Speaker 2: defense is going to get whole for the first time
- 0:45Speaker 2: this season when they play San Francisco on Sunday.
- 0:48Speaker 3: That's well-timed.
- 0:49Speaker 2: The Kraken are heading out on a five-game road trip.
- 0:52Speaker 2: The opener of it is tomorrow night at Detroit against
- 0:54Speaker 2: the Red Wings. Of course, tomorrow night is also when
- 0:56Speaker 2: the Huskies play Iowa State on a Friday night game
- 0:59Speaker 2: at Husky Stadium at 6 p.m. right here on 93.3 KJFM,
- 1:03Speaker 2: your home of the Huskies. Then they play back-to-back Friday nights.
- 1:06Speaker 2: They play at Purdue next Friday night.
- 1:08Speaker 4: They are being spotlighted.
- 1:09Speaker 3: It's a shame it's against high school football on Friday nights. Yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 3: it is. TV, man.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Major League Baseball playoffs. It's too bad that Padres... Brewers
- 1:18Speaker 2: series ended. This was crazy last night in San Diego.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Takes a swing. Sends it out to center. Mitchell back
- 1:26Speaker 3: at the wall. He's got it. Oh, my goodness.
- 1:30Speaker 5: Two down, and Machado cannot believe it.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness. That was the Adam Jones WBC. Remember
- 1:38Speaker 3: that one?
- 1:39Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:39Speaker 3: That's almost the same spot. I don't mean AJ Perninsky.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It was on FS1' s broadcast, Fox Sports broadcast, of Garrett
- 1:48Speaker 2: Mitchell robbing San Diego's Manny Machado of a game-tying home
- 1:52Speaker 2: run in the bottom of the eighth. The Brewers 3-1
- 1:54Speaker 2: victory over the Padres. That win sends Milwaukee to the
- 1:57Speaker 2: National League Championship Series against the Dodgers. Los Angeles, the
- 2:01Speaker 2: evil empire eliminated Atlanta.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Do you root for the Brewers? Brewers because I do.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I really like Pat Murphy. I like the way the
- 2:08Speaker 2: Brewers play. I wish the Mariners play that way.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I just like Milwaukee.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Milwaukee is a great city.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:13Speaker 3: A lot of soul in that city.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Cleveland wanted Chicago to force a game four in the
- 2:18Speaker 2: best of five American League division series. The winner of
- 2:21Speaker 2: that series is going to face Tampa Bay because the
- 2:22Speaker 2: Rays knocked the Yankees out in a three game series.
- 2:25Speaker 2: The Yankees now haven't been to the World Series in
- 2:28Speaker 2: 17 years. That's a franchise record drought. And this is
- 2:30Speaker 2: what Junior Caminero said after the game on the Yankees.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I mean, shout out to knowing John Sterling's call.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 2:44Speaker 4: That is impressive.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Ray Starr, Junior Caminero on Yankee Stadium's field, the ESPN
- 2:50Speaker 3: Español last night. The Yankees lose.
- 2:53Speaker 4: I mean, he did it really well.
- 2:56Speaker 3: He did. And he had a huge smile on his
- 2:57Speaker 3: face and he walked off right after that.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that was it.
- 3:00Speaker 3: The mic dropped.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Yes, it was. But I mean, How much do you
- 3:04Speaker 4: think a professional baseball player listens to opponents' calls? Because
- 3:09Speaker 4: he had to know somehow, and he's so young, and
- 3:12Speaker 4: Sterling's been around forever. I mean, I grew up listening
- 3:14Speaker 4: to him, so that was pretty solid.
- 3:18Speaker 3: And across two languages.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:20Speaker 3: That's how much the Yankees are despised in baseball.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And a reminder that Jessamyn's Washington State Cougars are playing
- 3:26Speaker 2: tomorrow night, too. They're at Utah State in Ogden, so
- 3:28Speaker 2: Jessamyn's going to be getting on a plane and heading
- 3:30Speaker 2: to Utah tomorrow.
- 3:31Speaker 3: This evening, yes. This evening, there we go. Now on
- 3:34Speaker 3: with the Thursday show. I'm back in the studio with
- 3:36Speaker 3: Justin McIntyre, Greg Bell here.
- 3:38Speaker 4: 10 a.m.
- 3:38Speaker 3: To noon on 93.3 KJFM. Good morning, ma'am.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Good morning. This song reminds me of the person that
- 3:46Speaker 4: got back to me from Mark Morrison's agency.
- 3:48Speaker 3: What? We'll see. We're going to have Mark Morrison.
- 3:53Speaker 4: I have some direct contact happening right now.
- 3:55Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Do they know we play his song every day?
- 4:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:00Speaker 4: And I was a little bit worried that they go,
- 4:03Speaker 4: you can't do that.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Oh, right. He writes.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 4: However, yes, we do not put it on the podcast.
- 4:09Speaker 4: So that is really the only restriction that we have.
- 4:12Speaker 4: We can play it on the radio. So, yes, they
- 4:14Speaker 4: are very well aware. I've been talking to them for months.
- 4:17Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Yes.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Mark Morrison, Return of the Mack. If you're just listening
- 4:21Speaker 3: to the show for one of the few times, that's
- 4:23Speaker 3: my daughter's favorite song. She's an ensign in the Coast Guard.
- 4:26Speaker 3: She's 23 years old, and she's in Hawaii. I rarely
- 4:29Speaker 3: get to see her. She's actually on a ship, usually
- 4:31Speaker 3: out in the Pacific Ocean or Japan or somewhere, as
- 4:33Speaker 3: an ensign in the Coast Guard. So I rarely get
- 4:35Speaker 3: to see her. So every time I hear that song
- 4:37Speaker 3: or play it, I think of her. So why not?
- 4:38Speaker 3: Do it every day.
- 4:39Speaker 4: I think I love it. And also, it's a very
- 4:41Speaker 4: energizing song.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I think so.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Yes.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Some of those on the text line disagree.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Especially as a McIntyre.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah. Coach Mac, your dad. Yes.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Dad, me, J-Mac, let's go.
- 4:53Speaker 3: That's true. That's awesome. Jessamyn McIntyre, return of the Mac.
- 4:57Speaker 2: On the show today, we're going to talk about Robert Henry.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Why is Robert Henry Jr. the Seahawks' newest running back
- 5:03Speaker 2: and why Joe Mixon is not?
- 5:06Speaker 3: Although Mike McDonald didn't quite answer that yesterday.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Today is an anniversary in baseball history. An immortal day
- 5:14Speaker 2: described first by an immortal man. We're going to talk
- 5:17Speaker 2: about Vin Scully and baseball history. And Jessamyn and I
- 5:22Speaker 2: both have stories about Vince Scully, personal stories about Vince Scully,
- 5:25Speaker 2: and Jessamyn's is a really good one.
- 5:27Speaker 3: You'll hear that.
- 5:27Speaker 2: 11 o'clock, Farron Lodge, our buddy, TSN Canada, will join
- 5:31Speaker 2: us live to talk about everything around the NFL.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I saw him yesterday down at Seahawks practice.
- 5:36Speaker 2: He showed up because he's going to be there Sunday
- 5:38Speaker 2: when the Seahawks and 49ers play for the NFC West League.
- 5:40Speaker 2: That's the Fox National Sunday afternoon game of the week
- 5:44Speaker 2: with Tom Brady and Kevin Burkhardt calling it. at 125
- 5:47Speaker 2: from Lumen Field. 1135, we'll read back your text. We'll
- 5:50Speaker 2: do your talkbacks. The text line, of course, is 49451.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And talkbacks in the iHeartRadio app or our website, 933kgr. com.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Little red microphone button at the top. We've got 30-second
- 6:00Speaker 2: or shorter voicemail message. Jessamyn loves those. She'll play them back.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Please do. I get very lonely, even though I have
- 6:06Speaker 4: Greg staring across from me. He might have to go attend.
- 6:11Speaker 3: To some duties.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I have to run out to rent in the Seahawk
- 6:14Speaker 2: headquarters because at noon, high noon, is when Sam Donald,
- 6:17Speaker 2: the quarterback, is going to talk, and I will be
- 6:19Speaker 2: running out there from here in downtown Seattle. So 1130,
- 6:22Speaker 2: Jessamyn has the comms. She'll also have Factor Fiction, our pick.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Daily pick is at 1135, your chance to win $ 1, 000
- 6:30Speaker 2: from the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, and Jessamyn has
- 6:33Speaker 2: the pick today. Then Ina Furness will talk to Jessamyn
- 6:35Speaker 2: at 1145 or so, leading into his show 12 until
- 6:38Speaker 2: 3 on what he's got going on today. The first
- 6:41Speaker 2: text is going to lead me into the first thing
- 6:43Speaker 2: I want to talk about today. But the first text
- 6:44Speaker 2: question on the Tacoma Dodge text line, 49451. Why in
- 6:48Speaker 2: the hell do you ever, or do you still, watch
- 6:52Speaker 2: or listen to Stephen A.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Smith?
- 6:54Speaker 4: Oof.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yeah. End it. Just be done. Done.
- 7:01Speaker 4: I would not like to give him more air time.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I'm not going to play what he said yesterday, but
- 7:05Speaker 2: I think most of us have seen it, heard it.
- 7:08Speaker 2: It was ridiculous. You have a platform that large and
- 7:13Speaker 2: have an irresponsibility that, see ya, done.
- 7:16Speaker 4: And the thing is, I've met him several times. And
- 7:20Speaker 4: he is a very kind person when you meet him
- 7:23Speaker 4: in person. And it plays to me like he does
- 7:27Speaker 4: this character.
- 7:27Speaker 3: It's performative.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Exactly. And that is not who he is, and I'm
- 7:32Speaker 4: not defending what he said. I'm just saying it's almost
- 7:35Speaker 4: more insulting that that's not who you are, and that's
- 7:38Speaker 4: what you put out there to a very large audience.
- 7:41Speaker 2: And he gets paid tens of millions of dollars by ESPN,
- 7:44Speaker 2: who prioritizes this stuff. What calls me– I'll just give
- 7:49Speaker 2: you the Cliff Notes version if you don't know what
- 7:50Speaker 2: the heck we're talking about. Lane Johnson, a Pro Bowl
- 7:54Speaker 2: stellar guard for years and over a decade– for the
- 7:57Speaker 2: Philadelphia Eagles, abruptly retired yesterday, and he cited mental health
- 8:01Speaker 2: as a reason. And that should be the story.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Yes.
- 8:07Speaker 2: In today's sports world, it is commonplace for athletes to
- 8:10Speaker 2: recognize something that had been taboo to even talk about
- 8:12Speaker 2: or ever recognize for centuries.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Mental health. We all have mental health issues. We either
- 8:17Speaker 3: touch by them or have them ourselves. If you don't,
- 8:20Speaker 3: you don't. First of all, you're very lucky or you
- 8:23Speaker 3: don't realize it. But we all do. We all got something.
- 8:26Speaker 3: And some people got somethings that are really, really, really,
- 8:29Speaker 3: really bad. And that's unfortunately what life is. And then
- 8:35Speaker 3: when Lane Johnson.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Says that, this clown goes on ESPN on his platform
- 8:40Speaker 2: of millions of people and says that he makes fun
- 8:42Speaker 2: of Lane Johnson for leaving for that reason and.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Says he's copping out.
- 8:46Speaker 2: He said he was weak and he was copping out
- 8:47Speaker 2: because the Eagles are after a 2-2 start and their
- 8:49Speaker 2: offense is playing poorly and he's just jetting out and
- 8:51Speaker 2: parachuting out of the situation.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Why didn't you retire in the offseason? Why didn't you
- 8:55Speaker 3: retire in preseason? Why didn't you retire now?
- 8:57Speaker 4: We've seen multiple players retire at an undisclosed time where
- 9:02Speaker 4: we go, hey, what? But he has that audience that
- 9:05Speaker 4: you're talking about. He has that. By the way, World
- 9:09Speaker 4: Mental Health Day is two days away from right now.
- 9:11Speaker 2: And in the Pacific Northwest, we are keenly aware of
- 9:13Speaker 2: this in the sports world because of the Holinsky family.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Yes.
- 9:17Speaker 2: And we are going to have the Helinskys on Ian Furness'
- 9:20Speaker 2: show today. Ian just texted me as he's listening right
- 9:22Speaker 2: now and saying, I just want you to know that
- 9:25Speaker 2: the Helinsky parents will be.
- 9:26Speaker 3: On our show today.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Mark and Kim are amazing.
- 9:28Speaker 3: And hats off to Ian for having them on and
- 9:31Speaker 3: Mark and Kim for being there.
- 9:32Speaker 4: And I, just to add to that, I remember Cole Madison,
- 9:36Speaker 4: who was a third round draft pick, who was a
- 9:37Speaker 4: Washington State graduate who lost Tyler. He also stepped away
- 9:42Speaker 4: at a certain time and died. He was at the
- 9:46Speaker 4: Green Bay Packers, and he stepped away for his own
- 9:49Speaker 4: mental health, and no one threw shade at him for it.
- 9:53Speaker 4: And everyone wanted him to be that guy that it
- 9:57Speaker 4: was an offensive lineman drafted. in the third round and
- 10:02Speaker 4: I thought I was so proud of him because everyone's
- 10:04Speaker 4: dream your entire life when you go through college football
- 10:08Speaker 4: if you get to that point and then you get
- 10:10Speaker 4: drafted in the NFL course is to continue that and
- 10:14Speaker 4: he gave it up yeah for himself I You know,
- 10:18Speaker 4: sometimes you have to think about you.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Tonight is the final keg of the mayor's new brew
- 10:25Speaker 3: down at Georgetown Brewery. You're going to Utah.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Which also, I can't do it. I mean, do you
- 10:33Speaker 4: think I could do that as a checked bag?
- 10:34Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:35Speaker 4: If I get a keg?
- 10:36Speaker 3: I do. Or a mini keg.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yes.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I think you could.
- 10:39Speaker 4: All right.
- 10:40Speaker 2: It's also Student Athlete Mental Health Week. And as Jessamyn mentioned,
- 10:43Speaker 2: two days away of National Mental Health Day. That's what
- 10:47Speaker 2: we should be talking about, not this clown ass. But
- 10:50Speaker 2: when he pops off and makes fun of mental health
- 10:53Speaker 2: as a reason for Lane Johnson retiring, what calls me
- 10:56Speaker 2: the most about this guy other than the fact that
- 10:58Speaker 2: ESPN is paying him whatever it is, $ 10, $ 20, $ 30 million,
- 11:01Speaker 2: whatever misplaced dollars are.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I think it's $ 10 a year. It's $ 10 more than
- 11:04Speaker 3: it should be. But he is a journalist. He was
- 11:08Speaker 3: a writer.
- 11:09Speaker 4: I would say was.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Was a journalist. For the Philadelphia Inquirer, he was a
- 11:13Speaker 3: sports writer for nine years. He was like me. We
- 11:17Speaker 3: did it in the locker rooms.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And he's first-person reporting what there are so fewer of
- 11:24Speaker 2: these days instead of hot take artists.
- 11:26Speaker 3: And now he's become this performer.
- 11:28Speaker 2: He's not a journalist anymore. He's a performer and an
- 11:31Speaker 2: entertainer and a bad one. But what galls someone who
- 11:35Speaker 2: has been in the same arena, journalism, and first-person accountability
- 11:41Speaker 2: for the subjects you deal with.
- 11:43Speaker 3: And he's just– and ESPN rewards him.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Actually, television media rewards not being that and being the
- 11:51Speaker 2: opposite of that. And he issues this apology, which is
- 11:54Speaker 2: half-baked and ridiculous. And then he issues another apology. I'm
- 11:57Speaker 2: told this morning I'm never going to watch it, so
- 11:58Speaker 2: I don't know what he said.
- 11:59Speaker 3: No. Bump that.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I didn't watch it either. I will not give that
- 12:03Speaker 4: a click.
- 12:04Speaker 6: No.
- 12:04Speaker 3: And you're not going to.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Performative art.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Making fun of somebody on national television, then putting up
- 12:11Speaker 2: some kind of something so that you can get engagement
- 12:13Speaker 2: on that, and then putting some kind of something when
- 12:15Speaker 2: you see overnight that you are getting absolutely lambasted by
- 12:18Speaker 2: everybody in your own industry.
- 12:19Speaker 3: People in their own network are going after him.
- 12:21Speaker 4: I know.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Not to mention the NFL.
- 12:24Speaker 4: The amount of things I wanted to say, but all
- 12:26Speaker 4: that does is create more engagement for it.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's... Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 4: It's really... on so many levels, regardless of the timing
- 12:38Speaker 4: of any of it, is just disgusting. Like, why would
- 12:42Speaker 4: you make fun of a professional athlete for actually being vulnerable?
- 12:48Speaker 4: He was vulnerable in admitting that. He didn't just retire.
- 12:51Speaker 4: He didn't parachute out of a bad start. He literally
- 12:56Speaker 4: came out there and said why, and then you make
- 12:59Speaker 4: fun of him. I don't understand how, even if you
- 13:03Speaker 4: are in the performative art way of sports broadcasting these days,
- 13:08Speaker 4: how you could feel okay about that.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Doug Manyweather is a trainer of athletes and offensive linemen
- 13:16Speaker 2: in particular, and he's worked with Lane Johnson.
- 13:19Speaker 3: And on social media yesterday, he posted what I thought.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Was a pretty good summation of a scope that A
- 13:30Speaker 2: lot of people lack, including the person we're talking about.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I'll parenthetically say, clown ass, your comments about Lane were
- 13:38Speaker 2: ignorant and disrespectful, saying afterward that you would never make
- 13:40Speaker 2: light of mental health doesn't erase the way you spoke
- 13:42Speaker 2: about Lane. Lane is my brother. I know the man
- 13:44Speaker 2: beyond the uniform. You're speaking with certainty about a decision
- 13:48Speaker 2: you don't have the personal context to explain. You can
- 13:50Speaker 2: assess what his absence means to the Eagles, but suggesting
- 13:53Speaker 2: he wouldn't walk away if they were winning is reckless.
- 13:56Speaker 2: A winning record doesn't tell you whether someone is okay.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Mental health doesn't follow the NFL schedule.
- 14:01Speaker 3: It ain't linear. It's daily, in all caps, daily.
- 14:05Speaker 2: A man can commit to a season and later recognize
- 14:07Speaker 2: that continuing to comes at a cost he can no
- 14:10Speaker 2: longer carry.
- 14:11Speaker 3: He has every right to act on that.
- 14:13Speaker 2: We ask these men to be accountable to their teammates,
- 14:15Speaker 2: to coaches, organizations, and fans. That responsibility also extends to
- 14:20Speaker 2: their children, their families, and themselves. Think about what your
- 14:25Speaker 2: delivery tells the next person who's struggling and afraid to
- 14:27Speaker 2: speak up, that their honesty might become material for someone
- 14:30Speaker 2: else's next segment. Lane doesn't owe you the private details
- 14:33Speaker 2: to earn your respect. He told us all what he
- 14:35Speaker 2: needed to prioritize. That should be enough. You have a
- 14:38Speaker 2: massive platform. Carry that responsibility that comes with it. Our
- 14:42Speaker 2: world is divided enough. I thought that was a very
- 14:46Speaker 2: poignant and accurate way to surmise this.
- 14:48Speaker 4: And from someone who it actually matters from. We can
- 14:52Speaker 4: talk all we want. We don't know, Lane. I tangentially
- 14:57Speaker 4: know and have met Stephen A.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Smith.
- 15:00Speaker 4: But when you have that kind of platform, he had
- 15:02Speaker 4: such an opportunity that was blown. He had such an
- 15:06Speaker 4: opportunity to actually focus on that and make it kind.
- 15:10Speaker 4: And I saw the co-host being slightly uncomfortable.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Kimberly Martin deserves credit for it.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Yes.
- 15:17Speaker 3: She was not having it.
- 15:18Speaker 4: No, she wasn't.
- 15:19Speaker 6: But.
- 15:20Speaker 2: She knows where her bread's buttered, and she didn't take
- 15:22Speaker 2: him to task live on the air because he's one
- 15:24Speaker 2: of the two mainstays of the largest sports network empire
- 15:27Speaker 2: in the world. And that network in our society rewards
- 15:31Speaker 2: the performative circus act that that was rather than the
- 15:34Speaker 2: substance of real humanity and empathy.
- 15:37Speaker 3: And that's the bottom line. The attention that clicks, the
- 15:40Speaker 3: money goes to that and not what it should go to.
- 15:44Speaker 3: And that is the failure here.
- 15:46Speaker 2: This is a failure of journalism, a failure of humanity
- 15:48Speaker 2: of just being a plain, decent guy. or gal, and
- 15:51Speaker 2: not calling out somebody for whatever the reasons are that
- 15:53Speaker 2: they walk away from whatever they do.
- 15:56Speaker 3: That's them. And everybody's got something. I learn this every day.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Every day. I got stuff. We all got stuff.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I got stuff that's layered on top of stuff on
- 16:05Speaker 2: top of stuff on top of stuff right now.
- 16:07Speaker 3: We all got stuff.
- 16:09Speaker 2: You got to respect and empathize with that to make
- 16:12Speaker 2: this a better place to live, work, and enjoy. And
- 16:14Speaker 2: I know it's just sports and it's just games, but
- 16:16Speaker 2: I've told you before, I learned a long time ago
- 16:18Speaker 2: that sports and sports writing and sports journalism is about
- 16:20Speaker 2: the people.
- 16:21Speaker 3: It's not about the games. It's about the people.
- 16:24Speaker 2: And that is not how you treat people. So I
- 16:27Speaker 2: just wanted to point out that he was a journalist
- 16:31Speaker 2: at the Philadelphia Inquirer for nine years. He was a journalist,
- 16:33Speaker 2: and he did first-person reporting. He was in the locker rooms,
- 16:35Speaker 2: and he was accountable to the people that he talked
- 16:37Speaker 2: to and the stories he wrote, just like I am
- 16:39Speaker 2: every day when I'm out at Seahawks or Mariners or
- 16:42Speaker 2: everywhere else I go. And he's lost that, and our
- 16:45Speaker 2: society rewards losing that. It doesn't reward keeping that. And
- 16:51Speaker 2: that's a damn shame, but that's the facts. And those
- 16:57Speaker 2: clown asses have these giant platforms, as Jessamyn said, and
- 17:00Speaker 2: as Duke Manningweather just said in his statement, they have
- 17:02Speaker 2: giant platforms that they could be so much better with.
- 17:06Speaker 2: But because they get rewarded for whatever comes out of
- 17:08Speaker 2: their mouth, unprepared and uneducated, they keep doing it. It's
- 17:13Speaker 2: an opportunity lost, but it's not an opportunity lost for
- 17:16Speaker 2: us to take a step back and go.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Wait a minute.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I don't need to put up with this. You don't
- 17:20Speaker 2: have to watch. Nobody's making you watch stupid-ass first take,
- 17:23Speaker 2: whatever that show's called. People ask me all the time,
- 17:26Speaker 2: I don't watch the guy. I lost all respect for
- 17:30Speaker 2: him a long time ago, and I will never watch
- 17:33Speaker 2: or talk about him. Chris used to have one and
- 17:36Speaker 2: put clips of his on the air because he would
- 17:38Speaker 2: say something about the NBA that Chris adores. I'm like, no, man,
- 17:41Speaker 2: I'm not giving this guy oxygen.
- 17:44Speaker 3: I'm just not.
- 17:45Speaker 4: And again, I'll reiterate, it sucks to watch the performative
- 17:49Speaker 4: when you've got to engage with a person and know
- 17:53Speaker 4: that they're not that person. And I'm like, but you're
- 17:56Speaker 4: actually acting like a journalist on air. It's one thing
- 17:59Speaker 4: if you're an actor or actress and you're performing. You're
- 18:03Speaker 4: not that person. You are Stephen A. Smith and everything
- 18:08Speaker 4: that you do and you are in a journalistic body,
- 18:13Speaker 4: everything you do is.
- 18:15Speaker 4: It's out there and under the veil of journalism. And
- 18:19Speaker 4: it's just not.
- 18:20Speaker 3: No, it's not.
- 18:21Speaker 2: It's not even human. But that gets rewarded. That's what
- 18:26Speaker 2: people watch. That's what people click. And that's what ESPN
- 18:28Speaker 2: pays for.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Yep.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And that's why guys like that get $ 30 million. While
- 18:33Speaker 2: the people who are actually doing first-person journalism, those people
- 18:35Speaker 2: get to do their hot takes on, get cut and
- 18:37Speaker 2: fired and laid off and go away.
- 18:39Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 18:41Speaker 3: That's hard.
- 18:42Speaker 4: We are living in idiocracy, Greg.
- 18:44Speaker 3: That's the society in a nutshell right now. All right,
- 18:47Speaker 3: let's talk about your Seahawks.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Why is Robert Henry Jr. suddenly the guy everybody's talking about?
- 18:52Speaker 2: Nobody was talking about him at the onset of this season.
- 18:54Speaker 2: We'll talk about why he's the new Seahawks running back
- 18:57Speaker 2: and why Joe Mixon is not. We didn't get a
- 18:59Speaker 2: really clear answer when I asked Mike McDonald that yesterday,
- 19:02Speaker 2: but we have some crumbs and clues as to why
- 19:04Speaker 2: Joe Mixon is not a Seahawk. 11 o'clock, Farhan Lalji,
- 19:08Speaker 2: our buddy from TSN Canada, going to go around the
- 19:10Speaker 2: NFL to talk about Rams-Bills.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Who's going to win that game? High of the 49.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Brock Purdy for real?
- 19:15Speaker 2: I was on the KMBR show this morning in San
- 19:17Speaker 2: Francisco talking a lot about that with Brian Murphy, my buddy.
- 19:20Speaker 3: In San Francisco. That's coming up. $ 11.
- 19:22Speaker 2: 35 factor fixture and chance to win $ 1, 000 from the
- 19:25Speaker 2: Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Jessamyn has the pick today. All that's coming up on
- 19:28Speaker 3: our show on 93.3 KJRFM. Welcome back. We've reached the
- 19:56Speaker 3: hard rock portion of 93.3 KGR FM. Yeah, we are.
- 20:00Speaker 4: It's a Thursday. Let's go.
- 20:01Speaker 6: All right.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Jasmine's heading on a plane. She's going to Utah. Ogden, Utah,
- 20:08Speaker 3: in fact. I guess you fly into Salt Lake City.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Yes. Yeah, it's always a rough landing there. I don't
- 20:14Speaker 4: know how many times you've flown into that airport, but
- 20:17Speaker 4: it is kind of in between a lot of buttes.
- 20:23Speaker 4: If you will.
- 20:24Speaker 8: Butte.
- 20:25Speaker 3: B-U-T-T-E.
- 20:26Speaker 9: Yes.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Why is she going there? Because Washington State is playing
- 20:29Speaker 2: tomorrow night against Utah State. I can't remember a time
- 20:32Speaker 2: that Washington State and Washington both played on Friday night.
- 20:35Speaker 2: But that's what's happening tomorrow. And they're kicking off at
- 20:36Speaker 2: the same time on two different national television networks. And,
- 20:40Speaker 2: of course, here on 93.3 KGRFM, the Huskies are hosting
- 20:44Speaker 2: Iowa at Husky Stadium, a 6 p.m. kickoff, right smack
- 20:47Speaker 2: in the middle of Friday Night Lights high school football.
- 20:52Speaker 2: That's too bad. I'll be at Eastlake High School, Mount
- 20:55Speaker 2: Si and Eastlake in a big Kinko crown game over
- 20:58Speaker 2: on the semi-plateau. Eastlake High School, I'll be officiating that
- 21:01Speaker 2: game tomorrow night. We're going to have our high school
- 21:03Speaker 2: football focus tomorrow. We're going to have two coaches that
- 21:06Speaker 2: aren't playing each other, but we're going to focus on
- 21:09Speaker 2: two coaches, one from Seattle Prep, Aaron Mullen, one from
- 21:13Speaker 2: Mercer Island High School. Two different paths to getting to
- 21:16Speaker 2: where they are. You're going to hear their stories tomorrow
- 21:18Speaker 2: at 11 o'clock. At 11 o'clock today, you're going to
- 21:21Speaker 2: hear Farhan Lazi of TSN Canada. He's going to take
- 21:23Speaker 2: us around the NFL and his view of how the
- 21:26Speaker 2: 4-0 49ers are 4-0 and Brock Purdy playing maybe the
- 21:30Speaker 2: best quarterback in football right now. 11 touchdowns, one interception, 70% passer,
- 21:35Speaker 2: has not been sacked in four games.
- 21:37Speaker 4: And guess who's starting on my fantasy team?
- 21:40Speaker 2: That's the first time since 2005 I learned from Eric
- 21:43Speaker 2: Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle this morning when I
- 21:45Speaker 2: was on the roundtable with him, with Chuck and Anders.
- 21:49Speaker 2: The first time since 2005 that a quarterback and a
- 21:51Speaker 2: team have gone through the first four games of the
- 21:53Speaker 2: NFL season without a sack. Of course, 2005 was the
- 21:55Speaker 2: Indianapolis Colts that did that, and you know who the
- 21:57Speaker 2: Colts quarterback was in 2005. That was Peyton Manning in
- 22:01Speaker 2: the best offense ever that the Seahawks at the end
- 22:03Speaker 2: of that season just absolutely annihilated in Super Bowl XLIII
- 22:08Speaker 2: to VIII. That's the last time that a quarterback has
- 22:11Speaker 2: done what Brock Purdy and the 49ers have done and
- 22:12Speaker 2: not be sacked through the first four games.
- 22:15Speaker 3: That's the Seahawks' task.
- 22:17Speaker 2: On Sunday, their task on Sunday against the 49ers is
- 22:19Speaker 2: also to run the ball with Jadarian Price on injured reserve,
- 22:25Speaker 2: at least into November now. Emmanuel Wilson is the lead back,
- 22:28Speaker 2: it would appear. But the reason that they brought in
- 22:31Speaker 2: Robert Henry Jr., undrafted 24-year-old, is because of his speed.
- 22:36Speaker 2: He's the opposite of Wilson. Wilson is more of a
- 22:39Speaker 2: plowing back at 220 pounds.
- 22:40Speaker 4: Which is also valuable.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Indeed. But he was supposed to be the short yardage
- 22:44Speaker 2: back coming into this season. Price was the cutback, the speed,
- 22:48Speaker 2: one cut and go, outside zone, decisive cut runner. And
- 22:51Speaker 2: now he's on the injured list. So they bring in
- 22:53Speaker 2: Robert Henry, who's something like him. He's 5'9 and under
- 22:55Speaker 2: 200 pounds. And speed is his game in the backfield.
- 22:58Speaker 2: He averaged 6.9 yards a carry for Texas San Antonio
- 23:01Speaker 2: last year. He's now a 24-year-old undrafted rookie free agent
- 23:06Speaker 2: from the Washington Commanders. Had a good preseason for the Commanders.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Went on their practice squad at the end of the preseason.
- 23:11Speaker 2: And that's where he spent the first four weeks of
- 23:13Speaker 2: the regular season. He also had a baby last year.
- 23:17Speaker 3: He and his girlfriend.
- 23:19Speaker 2: A son who's now one year and one month old.
- 23:22Speaker 2: How big of a deal was this for Robert Henry Jr.? Well,
- 23:26Speaker 2: he was making $ 13, 000 a week on the practice card.
- 23:29Speaker 2: That's a good change for an undrafted rookie. But $ 13, 000
- 23:33Speaker 2: on the practice card per week.
- 23:35Speaker 3: The Seahawks sign him. He goes on to the active
- 23:37Speaker 3: roster because that's the only way you can get a
- 23:39Speaker 3: guy off someone else's practice card. Put him on your
- 23:40Speaker 3: active roster. The minimum salary in the NFL says that
- 23:43Speaker 3: he is now going to make $ 47, 000 a week. So
- 23:46Speaker 3: he's gone four and a half X.
- 23:49Speaker 2: How many diapers and formula can you buy a one-year-old
- 23:51Speaker 2: with that? That is life-changing. You talk about life-changing. It
- 23:55Speaker 2: is life-changing for Robert Henry Jr. and his young wife
- 23:58Speaker 2: and young girlfriend and one-year-old son to have a four
- 24:03Speaker 2: and a half X raise. So that's one, which is
- 24:06Speaker 2: why he didn't mind dropping everything and moving across the
- 24:08Speaker 2: country from Washington, D.C. to Seattle this week. when he
- 24:11Speaker 2: got the call that he was going to be a Seahawk.
- 24:12Speaker 2: This was Robert Henry Jr. in the locker room before
- 24:14Speaker 2: his first practice yesterday when I talked to him.
- 24:16Speaker 6: He was like, Seahawks been hitting me. I was like, okay, cool.
- 24:19Speaker 6: He was like, they're trying to grab me for active roster.
- 24:22Speaker 6: I was like, okay, okay, bet.
- 24:23Speaker 9: So he was like, just be watching out for that.
- 24:25Speaker 9: So I did, and they hit me.
- 24:27Speaker 6: I'm here.
- 24:28Speaker 3: You stayed at UTSA for three years.
- 24:30Speaker 6: Obviously, these days, guys have opportunities to move elsewhere or whatever.
- 24:33Speaker 6: Did you have any of those? Oh, well, yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 9: UNC was looking at me, but my girl, she was
- 24:39Speaker 9: pregnant at the time, so... I stayed, you know, to
- 24:42Speaker 9: see my son born, and I finished at UT as
- 24:45Speaker 9: a kid.
- 24:46Speaker 3: How did fatherhood change you as a young man?
- 24:48Speaker 6: Man, I got a soft spot.
- 24:50Speaker 9: I didn't think I did at first, but, you know,
- 24:53Speaker 9: just watching my son grow up, you know, he shaped
- 24:56Speaker 9: me as a person and definitely as a father. So
- 24:59Speaker 9: I look into that every day, you know, get a
- 25:02Speaker 9: chance to see him every day, every chance I get.
- 25:05Speaker 3: How active roster salary bump up doesn't hurt for the family?
- 25:09Speaker 6: Oh, no, not at all, not at all.
- 25:10Speaker 3: How old is your baby now?
- 25:11Speaker 6: He's one.
- 25:12Speaker 3: What's his name?
- 25:13Speaker 6: Dante.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Dante.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Okay.
- 25:15Speaker 9: When the Seahawks played the Commanders a couple weeks ago,
- 25:17Speaker 9: were you standing on the sidelines watching that game?
- 25:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I was on the sidelines watching. Okay, what did
- 25:22Speaker 6: you think of watching the Seahawks? Great team, you know
- 25:25Speaker 6: what I'm saying?
- 25:25Speaker 9: Great energy, very physical, and I feel like Being in
- 25:30Speaker 9: Washington at that moment, we played a great game and
- 25:35Speaker 9: came out with the goal.
- 25:36Speaker 10: For the 12s that haven't had a chance to see
- 25:38Speaker 10: you play, how would you describe your game?
- 25:41Speaker 9: A smaller elusive back, kind of like if I had
- 25:45Speaker 9: to say Alvin.
- 25:49Speaker 6: I think I'd put Alvin.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I don't know if they asked you, did Seahawks talk
- 25:53Speaker 2: to you at all in the pre-draft process?
- 25:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I talked to Coach Ham a couple times.
- 25:57Speaker 9: We got on a couple Zoom calls.
- 25:59Speaker 6: We'll do a couple runs and takes and stuff.
- 26:02Speaker 2: But how realistic is it you'll have enough of the
- 26:04Speaker 2: playbook to play Sunday?
- 26:06Speaker 3: Are you swimming a little bit right now?
- 26:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I am.
- 26:08Speaker 9: You know, it's a learning process. Every day I get
- 26:11Speaker 9: an opportunity to be getting the playbook every night.
- 26:13Speaker 6: That's what I'm going to be doing.
- 26:15Speaker 3: When did you first get it?
- 26:16Speaker 6: Tuesday morning? Yeah, it was Tuesday I first got it.
- 26:19Speaker 9: How different is it from stuff you've been familiar with
- 26:22Speaker 9: in the past?
- 26:23Speaker 6: It's way different for sure.
- 26:24Speaker 9: Because when I was in Washington, it was like the
- 26:26Speaker 9: plays was like, A little shorter. Here, almost every play
- 26:30Speaker 9: you got to kill, so the play is much longer
- 26:33Speaker 9: because you got two plays, you know what I'm saying?
- 26:36Speaker 2: How much excited were you to look at, you can't
- 26:41Speaker 2: tell us, but I know there's a couple of plays
- 26:42Speaker 2: that kind of, you kind of went, oh, okay, I
- 26:45Speaker 2: like that play.
- 26:46Speaker 6: Outside zone for sure. I feel like that fit my run.
- 26:49Speaker 9: Speed, you know, because I'm a speedy back too, so
- 26:52Speaker 9: outside zone fit me perfectly.
- 26:54Speaker 3: What are the key sports for you back in the
- 26:55Speaker 3: outside zone?
- 26:57Speaker 9: The pressure landmark. You know, when you pressure a landmark,
- 26:59Speaker 9: defense flow, you'll be able to make your cut.
- 27:03Speaker 3: What have you seen?
- 27:03Speaker 4: I don't know if I can see outside offense at all,
- 27:07Speaker 4: but have you seen anything?
- 27:11Speaker 6: Like, what do you mean? Like, anything?
- 27:12Speaker 4: Like?
- 27:13Speaker 11: Let me start again. That's a bad question.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Just since you got here, what have you noticed just
- 27:18Speaker 3: about the Seahawks offense?
- 27:21Speaker 9: They run similar routes, Washington, so I'm kind of used
- 27:25Speaker 9: to running the routes they run. And it fit my
- 27:28Speaker 9: plans because I'm also a receiving back, too. So I
- 27:31Speaker 9: think that'll come along pretty easy.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Did you play any receiver, like, through high school or anything,
- 27:35Speaker 3: or was it mainly, like, primarily still running back first?
- 27:38Speaker 9: So I was, my 9th grade year, I was a
- 27:40Speaker 9: running back. My 10th grade year, I was a running back.
- 27:43Speaker 9: 11 and 12, I was a quarterback.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Okay.
- 27:45Speaker 6: So, yeah, I finished at quarterback. Still throwing a little? Yeah, yeah,
- 27:49Speaker 6: for sure.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Thank you, sir.
- 27:56Speaker 2: So I wrote a story for thenewstribune.com based on that
- 27:58Speaker 2: interview I had at the locker room, myself and the
- 28:01Speaker 2: beat writers talking before practice yesterday and in doing a
- 28:04Speaker 2: research in Mississippi, he went to high school in Mississippi
- 28:08Speaker 2: and ran first. He has a four-year starter at varsity
- 28:11Speaker 2: high school, ran for 7,000 yards and 99 touchdowns in
- 28:16Speaker 2: his four seasons in high school, 99 touchdowns, 25 a season.
- 28:21Speaker 2: That's a lot of touchdowns in high school.
- 28:22Speaker 4: You think it hurts him to not have the hundo?
- 28:26Speaker 3: Yeah, probably.
- 28:28Speaker 4: I mean, that's insane.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a lot. That's prolific. Yet he went the
- 28:32Speaker 3: junior college route, maybe because he's 5'9 and 100. Well,
- 28:35Speaker 3: he's not up to 196. He was probably, I'm guessing,
- 28:37Speaker 3: in the 170s or 80s at the time.
- 28:40Speaker 2: But he went the junior college route before he got
- 28:42Speaker 2: to Texas San Antonio. And as I mentioned, he was
- 28:45Speaker 2: a 6.9 yards per carry guy for UTSA last year,
- 28:48Speaker 2: which is why the Seahawks scouted him and knew about him.
- 28:51Speaker 3: But he didn't get drafted, partly.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Because he's 5'9 and below 200 pounds, but also because
- 28:56Speaker 2: he had a fumbling issue at the time. He fumbled
- 28:58Speaker 2: in college. And we see that that's not exactly what
- 29:02Speaker 2: the Seahawks need in their offense or any NFL team
- 29:04Speaker 2: needs in their offense. So perhaps that's why he wasn't drafted.
- 29:06Speaker 2: He also was a good pass catcher out of the backfield.
- 29:09Speaker 2: And as you heard, he played quarterback of two of
- 29:11Speaker 2: those four-starring years in high school in Mississippi. So now
- 29:16Speaker 2: he's in the Seahawks' backfield. And why isn't Joe Mixon not? Well—
- 29:20Speaker 2: The two-time Pro Bowl running back got a tryout with
- 29:23Speaker 2: the Seahawks on Monday. They wanted to give a shot
- 29:26Speaker 2: and see how his foot injury looked. He missed all
- 29:29Speaker 2: of last season after a 1,000-yard year with Houston in 2024.
- 29:32Speaker 2: He played in a playoff game in January 25. He
- 29:35Speaker 2: then had a foot injury in the preseason for Houston
- 29:38Speaker 2: in 2025 and didn't.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Play.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Everyone thought he was going to play. The Texans didn't
- 29:43Speaker 2: talk about what the foot injury was. Mixon wouldn't talk
- 29:46Speaker 2: about it. It's this big secret down in Houston. And
- 29:50Speaker 2: then he thought he could prove to the Seahawks that
- 29:51Speaker 2: he was healthy. So they agreed to sign him to
- 29:55Speaker 2: the practice squad, Mike McDonald said on Monday. pending a process,
- 29:59Speaker 2: and that process, of course, involves a physical exam before
- 30:02Speaker 2: you can sign a contract. That's standard for any professional
- 30:05Speaker 2: sports contract in North America, or probably Europe, for that matter,
- 30:08Speaker 2: and South America, and Asia, and everybody.
- 30:10Speaker 6: In the world.
- 30:11Speaker 2: And when he took the physical, he apparently failed it,
- 30:14Speaker 2: because when I asked Mike McDonald what happened yesterday, this
- 30:17Speaker 2: is what his answer was.
- 30:18Speaker 3: What happened with Joe Mixon? Why is he not.
- 30:21Speaker 6: On the team? Just didn't work out. Didn't work out.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Probably the most we should say about it with respect
- 30:29Speaker 4: to the process, but those things happen and it's just.
- 30:35Speaker 9: Part of the process.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Man, does he say process a lot for his own
- 30:39Speaker 3: team and for other things.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Everyone has a crutch. Everyone has a crutch.
- 30:43Speaker 3: That's true. That's Mike McDonald for sure.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Part of that process, and it's pretty easy to discern,
- 30:48Speaker 2: is it's probably a HIPAA violation to discuss anything about
- 30:52Speaker 2: someone's health unless they allow you to. And obviously Joe
- 30:55Speaker 2: Mixon doesn't want out whatever's wrong with his foot because
- 30:58Speaker 2: he's kept it a secret for now going on two
- 31:01Speaker 2: NFL seasons. There's all kinds of rumors in Houston about
- 31:05Speaker 2: what happened, unsubstantiated, but the fact remains the Seahawks did
- 31:08Speaker 2: not feel he was in shape enough to play. Now
- 31:12Speaker 2: there are national reports. I think it was Ian Rappaport
- 31:14Speaker 2: this morning, according to the text line. I didn't see it.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I was preparing for the show, but one of the
- 31:19Speaker 2: texters on the text line saying Ian Rappaport is reporting
- 31:22Speaker 2: that it was a quote degenerative issue in his foot
- 31:25Speaker 2: that the Seahawks discerned, their medical staff, and that's why
- 31:28Speaker 2: he's not going to play for the Seahawks. And the
- 31:32Speaker 2: question on the text line was, why would, it's a 3-6-0.
- 31:38Speaker 2: From the 4-3-4-5-1 Tacoma Dodge text line, the 3-6-0 says,
- 31:43Speaker 2: Ian Rappaport reported that the Hawks failed mixing and said
- 31:47Speaker 2: it was a, quote, degenerative foot injury and may never
- 31:49Speaker 2: play again. That doesn't sound like something the Hawks would release,
- 31:52Speaker 2: and they aren't. Is that good reporting for the Hawks
- 31:55Speaker 2: wouldn't violate HIPAA issues?
- 31:58Speaker 3: Well, we've already talked about journalism a lot on the
- 32:03Speaker 3: show today.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Is that good reporting? Well, it depends on who your
- 32:06Speaker 2: source is, I suppose. And national guys like Ian Rappaport
- 32:12Speaker 2: and such is a scratch my back and I'll scratch
- 32:14Speaker 2: yours type of quid pro quo that goes on, usually
- 32:17Speaker 2: with the agents. You wouldn't think it was an agent
- 32:20Speaker 2: that would say that their client has a degenerative foot disease.
- 32:22Speaker 2: That doesn't exactly– spawn new opportunities and tryouts from other teams.
- 32:27Speaker 2: The hope for Joe Mixon is to get a tryout
- 32:29Speaker 2: with a team whose medical staff will now clear him
- 32:31Speaker 2: so he can earn more money as a 30-year-old running back.
- 32:34Speaker 2: So that must come from someone around the team, which
- 32:38Speaker 2: is problematic when your coach is trying to protect the
- 32:40Speaker 2: player and it's a leak coming from a team. So
- 32:43Speaker 2: it's either the agent of the team or the player himself.
- 32:47Speaker 2: And it looks like Joe Mixon is doing his damnedest
- 32:49Speaker 2: to make sure his injury doesn't come out. But the
- 32:51Speaker 2: bottom line is that Joe Mixon is not coming onto
- 32:53Speaker 2: the Seahawks. And right now, they have Robert Henry Jr.
- 32:59Speaker 2: on their active roster, and they have a Chiefs South graduate,
- 33:03Speaker 2: a Chiefs South running back, Dante McMillan. We talked about yesterday.
- 33:07Speaker 2: He's going onto the practice squad instead of Joe Mixon.
- 33:11Speaker 2: So he's going to play for his second Seahawks, Seattle
- 33:13Speaker 2: Seahawks team, in his football career, the Chiefs South Seahawks.
- 33:19Speaker 2: He and McMillan, as a senior at Chiefs South in
- 33:22Speaker 2: West Seattle, he's a West Seattle guy, grew up there.
- 33:25Speaker 2: He had 2,019 yards rushing and 44 touchdowns. He was
- 33:28Speaker 2: the Metro League Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Metro.
- 33:31Speaker 2: He also was a first-team defense in that league that year.
- 33:34Speaker 2: He went to Weber State for a couple seasons, then
- 33:36Speaker 2: went to Eastern Michigan, and he had a 1,000-yard season
- 33:38Speaker 2: for Eastern Michigan last year.
- 33:39Speaker 4: I have so much respect for guys who play both ways.
- 33:42Speaker 3: It's insane.
- 33:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:44Speaker 2: And now he's back in his hometown team. He was
- 33:47Speaker 2: on the practice field yesterday. He's on the practice squad.
- 33:49Speaker 2: I'm hoping to talk to him today. He's 5'10 and
- 33:52Speaker 2: 204 pounds, so bigger than Henry and smaller than Emmanuel Wilson.
- 33:58Speaker 2: What's going to happen with Jadarian Price?
- 33:59Speaker 3: Well, it appears he's going to come back sometime, you
- 34:02Speaker 3: would think, November, December, November-ish.
- 34:05Speaker 2: He can't come back at the earliest until November 2nd,
- 34:07Speaker 2: the game against Chicago on a Monday night at Lumen Field.
- 34:11Speaker 2: And that's because of four-week minimum on the injury reserve list.
- 34:14Speaker 2: But John Schneider said on his pregame show Sunday before
- 34:16Speaker 2: the Chargers game, it is not a season-ending injury, but
- 34:20Speaker 2: it's an upper rib injury. So we'll see when Price
- 34:23Speaker 2: comes back. But in the meantime, it's Emmanuel Wilson and
- 34:25Speaker 2: I would think Robert Henry Jr. And because he's been
- 34:26Speaker 2: on a practice squad practicing every day, running other NFL
- 34:29Speaker 2: offenses in Washington, I think he's ready to go physically.
- 34:33Speaker 2: It's just how much can he assimilate the playbook? And
- 34:35Speaker 2: you heard him talking about his head swimming a little
- 34:37Speaker 2: bit doing that. But if he can get some bases
- 34:39Speaker 2: of the plays done, I think he could get snaps
- 34:41Speaker 2: and carries on Sunday when the Seahawks play the 49ers
- 34:44Speaker 2: because they need a running back who can be with
- 34:46Speaker 2: speed in the backfield besides just putting your wide receiver
- 34:49Speaker 2: Rashid Shahid in there.
- 34:51Speaker 4: 49-4-5-1.
- 34:51Speaker 3: You're feeling about the Seahawks running back room right now
- 34:54Speaker 3: going into this game where they.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Do need to run against San Francisco. Their defense is
- 34:58Speaker 2: only averaging 16 points allowed per game. Third best defense.
- 35:01Speaker 2: in the NFL.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Up next, baseball.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Huge piece of baseball history happened on this day 72
- 35:08Speaker 2: years ago.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Yeah, why am I talking about that?
- 35:10Speaker 2: Because we get to talk about Vin Scully, hear from
- 35:13Speaker 2: Vin Scully, and talk about him.
- 35:14Speaker 3: That's next. Farhan Lalji's up at 11 o'clock on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Welcome back.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Craig Bell and Jessup McIntyre with you on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 35:45Speaker 2: As we said earlier in the show, Ian Furness is
- 35:47Speaker 2: going to be on from 12 until 3. He's going
- 35:48Speaker 2: to have the Helinski's, the Helinski family, the parents on
- 35:52Speaker 2: Helinski's Hope Foundation, the whole specter of mental health and sports.
- 35:57Speaker 2: He's going to be on the show today, timely indeed,
- 36:00Speaker 2: surrounding the retirement of Lane Johnson, the star.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Guard for the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 36:05Speaker 4: And timely for the final mayor keg.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Mayor keg for part of those proceeds for buying that
- 36:11Speaker 2: beer go to the Holinsky Foundation, Holinsky's Hope, and it's
- 36:14Speaker 2: National Student Athlete Health Week and Day and National Health
- 36:20Speaker 2: Awareness Day, Mental Health Awareness Day.
- 36:22Speaker 4: World's Mental Health Day on October.
- 36:24Speaker 3: 10th, yes. October the 10th, two days from now.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Today, October 8th, 1956— Yankees starter Don Larson, through the
- 36:33Speaker 2: only perfect game in World Series history, beat the Brooklyn
- 36:37Speaker 2: Dodgers in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series.
- 36:40Speaker 3: The announcer on the call for NBC that game?
- 36:43Speaker 2: A 28-year-old Vin Scully.
- 36:45Speaker 6: Got it!
- 36:50Speaker 5: The greatest game ever played in World Series history by
- 36:56Speaker 5: Don Larson.
- 36:56Speaker 6: A no-hitter, a perfect game.
- 36:58Speaker 9: In a World Series.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Never in the history.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Of the game has it ever happened in a World Series.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Only the second time in baseball history, a World Series,
- 37:15Speaker 5: where a perfect game has been pitched.
- 37:19Speaker 8: 64,517 have seen it.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Millions more on television.
- 37:22Speaker 5: Don Larson pitches a perfect game, retiring 27.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Dodgers in a row.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Vin Scully on NBC in 1956. That was on live television.
- 37:35Speaker 4: 28. I mean, he had old-timey radio voice.
- 37:37Speaker 3: Didn't he?
- 37:38Speaker 4: Yes.
- 37:38Speaker 3: I looked it up. I had to double-check. He was
- 37:40Speaker 3: born in 1927 in New York City.
- 37:44Speaker 2: That was amazing that he was 28 years old, national
- 37:47Speaker 2: broadcaster of the World Series, and get to do a
- 37:49Speaker 2: seminal game in baseball history. I've met Vin Scully... A
- 37:54Speaker 2: couple times. At spring training, when the Dodgers moved to Arizona,
- 37:58Speaker 2: I met him first at Vero Beach, Florida. I went
- 38:00Speaker 2: to Florida when I was at the Sacramento Beat. I
- 38:02Speaker 2: covered Jason Giambi going to the Yankees story, back when
- 38:06Speaker 2: newspapers used to send their writers to go chase the
- 38:08Speaker 2: stories across the country.
- 38:09Speaker 6: It was grand.
- 38:11Speaker 3: And I met Vin Scully in Vero Beach, Dodger Town,
- 38:13Speaker 3: and it was fantastic.
- 38:15Speaker 2: And he was cordial. He didn't know me from anybody.
- 38:17Speaker 2: He treated me like he'd known me for years. And
- 38:20Speaker 2: then I met him again in Arizona when the Dodgers
- 38:23Speaker 2: moved to their new ranch out there in Arizona when
- 38:26Speaker 2: the Mariners, I was covering the Mariners spring training for
- 38:28Speaker 2: the Associated Press. You have a great story about Vin
- 38:31Speaker 2: Scully and meeting him.
- 38:33Speaker 3: I do.
- 38:33Speaker 4: And I just should set it up by saying that
- 38:36Speaker 4: I was in L.A. to cover, to produce an ESPN
- 38:41Speaker 4: radio broadcast with Kevin Calabro of an NBA game. And
- 38:45Speaker 4: so I was there for the Lakers, and I had
- 38:48Speaker 4: to go to shoot around, get sound and things like that,
- 38:51Speaker 4: do some interviews. And then I had the rest of
- 38:54Speaker 4: my day to myself. And I had a very good friend,
- 38:56Speaker 4: Beto Duran, who was working for the ESPN station in
- 39:00Speaker 4: Los Angeles at the time. And he said, hey, just
- 39:03Speaker 4: come to the spring training game. So at the time,
- 39:05Speaker 4: it was the end of spring training. So the LA
- 39:08Speaker 4: Dodgers were playing the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. at
- 39:13Speaker 4: their own stadium, at the Dodgers stadium. So he just
- 39:16Speaker 4: told me to meet him there. And I was like, okay, like,
- 39:20Speaker 4: I don't know what to do. So I just parked
- 39:21Speaker 4: in the parking lot. And, you know, it was not
- 39:24Speaker 4: a very heavily attended game because it was spring training.
- 39:27Speaker 4: So I parked there. And I I walk in and
- 39:30Speaker 4: I'm like, wait, I don't know how I'm going to
- 39:32Speaker 4: get in here because I had just been in spring
- 39:35Speaker 4: training with the Mariners. I showed my spring training ID
- 39:38Speaker 4: to someone with the Mariners on it. And just said,
- 39:42Speaker 4: I'm here for the radio. And they were like, oh,
- 39:44Speaker 4: let's get you up to the booth. And I was
- 39:46Speaker 4: just looking for my friend. You know, I don't know
- 39:49Speaker 4: how to get. He was going to get me in
- 39:51Speaker 4: and everything. But I didn't know where he was.
- 39:54Speaker 3: The Dodgers booth. The Dodgers radio booth.
- 39:56Speaker 4: The Dodgers. OK, we'll tell you where to go. And
- 39:59Speaker 4: I had a mariner's credential on. I think we're past
- 40:01Speaker 4: the statute of limitations for me to tell this story
- 40:04Speaker 4: where I didn't really commit a crime. So I go
- 40:07Speaker 4: up and I'm looking for my friend and I'm waiting
- 40:10Speaker 4: there for him. They put me up in the press
- 40:12Speaker 4: box and I'm like, okay, I'm just going to be nondescript.
- 40:16Speaker 4: And then he texted me, oh, meet me in the booth.
- 40:19Speaker 4: So I go walking over to the booth and Vin
- 40:22Speaker 4: Scully comes in. It's like a cloud was carrying him.
- 40:25Speaker 4: He's just the nicest person and treated me exactly the
- 40:30Speaker 4: same way that he treated you.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Hello, Jessamyn. using your first name.
- 40:34Speaker 4: So nice to meet you. And how do I say
- 40:37Speaker 4: that again? Made sure he got it right. And it
- 40:40Speaker 4: was just one of the most wonderful times that I
- 40:43Speaker 4: had in a random place that I was technically not
- 40:47Speaker 4: supposed to be, but I was working a different sport
- 40:52Speaker 4: and I got to be up there and got to
- 40:55Speaker 4: meet him and He was just perfect. And I just
- 40:59Speaker 4: will always cherish that moment and realize, at least I
- 41:03Speaker 4: have the wherewithal to realize how special that was, because
- 41:07Speaker 4: I don't know that some people would have appreciated it
- 41:11Speaker 4: that much. But those who are in the know definitely
- 41:14Speaker 4: know how special that was. So I got to talk
- 41:16Speaker 4: to him for about probably about 90 seconds, and then
- 41:19Speaker 4: I didn't want to take any more of his time.
- 41:21Speaker 4: But he made sure he said my name correctly. And
- 41:23Speaker 4: he said, well, that's beautiful. And I always come back
- 41:27Speaker 4: with a joke. Yeah, my parents got creative. Yeah, I
- 41:30Speaker 4: was like 26, 27 years old when that happened. And
- 41:35Speaker 4: I knew of the legend of Vin Scully and how
- 41:37Speaker 4: special that was. And he was so nice.
- 41:41Speaker 11: And then.
- 41:42Speaker 4: I went and met my friend, got to say hi.
- 41:44Speaker 3: He had to work.
- 41:45Speaker 4: And then I was like, okay, I'm going to go
- 41:47Speaker 4: have a beer in the stands and watch this game.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Yeah. I doubt anything got better that day than meeting him.
- 41:53Speaker 4: Nope. A beer in the sun was just the cap.
- 41:56Speaker 3: 91 years young, Vin Scully passed away in August of 2022.
- 41:59Speaker 3: A legend. Vin Scully.
- 42:03Speaker 2: There are only a couple people in my journalism career
- 42:05Speaker 2: that I've been blown away meeting, like an awestruck and
- 42:08Speaker 2: just stunned.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Vin Scully was one of them.
- 42:11Speaker 4: Yep.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Muhammad Ali was another in the Oakland A's clubhouse at
- 42:17Speaker 2: Phoenix Municipal Stadium in spring training in the early 2000s.
- 42:21Speaker 2: He did a magic trick, and this was when it
- 42:24Speaker 2: was heavily on set of Parkinson's and wasn't able to speak,
- 42:27Speaker 2: but he did a magic trick in front of the
- 42:30Speaker 2: A's in Rapture, 20-something-year-old.
- 42:32Speaker 3: This is Giambi, Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Moneyball A's. It was amazing.
- 42:37Speaker 3: And then he passed out. Landed flat on his back.
- 42:42Speaker 8: Really?
- 42:43Speaker 2: In the middle of the carpeted clubhouse at Phoenix Muni.
- 42:47Speaker 2: I thought I watched Muhammad Ali die in front of me.
- 42:50Speaker 2: He was out unconscious. And then he just snapped up
- 42:54Speaker 2: and said, I got you, didn't I?
- 42:56Speaker 4: He was always a jokester.
- 42:59Speaker 2: To this day, I don't know if he was joking
- 43:01Speaker 2: or if this happened so many times because it was
- 43:03Speaker 2: Parkinson's disease that it was just part of his act.
- 43:05Speaker 3: That he just made it a joke.
- 43:07Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 43:09Speaker 3: The people that his handlers and around him didn't seem
- 43:11Speaker 3: to be too alarmed. Like this happens a lot.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Either that was part of the act or that was
- 43:14Speaker 2: a joke or whether that happened so often they weren't concerned,
- 43:17Speaker 2: but they helped him get back on his feet. And
- 43:20Speaker 2: everybody in the clubhouse was just stunned. They didn't know
- 43:23Speaker 2: what to do or say. And yeah, that was, I'll
- 43:26Speaker 2: never forget that moment actually. But Ben Scully was another
- 43:29Speaker 2: one of those immortals.
- 43:30Speaker 3: You're just like, whoa. Here's another one. It's semi-immortal. Farhan Lalji.
- 43:35Speaker 4: Yes.
- 43:37Speaker 3: You'll laugh if he hears that I mentioned him in
- 43:38Speaker 3: the same sentence.
- 43:39Speaker 4: I think you shouldn't throw him that way when he
- 43:41Speaker 4: joins us.
- 43:42Speaker 2: My buddy from TSA Canada, NFL reporter, is going to
- 43:45Speaker 2: join us next to talk about the Seahawks, the 49ers,
- 43:47Speaker 2: the Rams, the Bills, and much more next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Hi, welcome back.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Greg Bell and Jessamyn McIntyre with you on a Thursday
- 44:19Speaker 2: here in Seattle, foggy Seattle, where the Seahawks are going
- 44:22Speaker 2: to be hosting. The 4-0 San Francisco 49ers. We'll talk
- 44:25Speaker 2: to Farhan Lalji, TSN Canada, our NFL guy here in
- 44:28Speaker 2: a minute. I want to remind you that Hugh Mellon's
- 44:30Speaker 2: going to have an in-person Chalk Talk this afternoon. 4.30 check-in,
- 44:35Speaker 2: 5 p.m. start at the Canoes Cabaret in the Tulalip
- 44:39Speaker 2: Resort and Casino. Hugh Mellon's going to be there. Chuck
- 44:41Speaker 2: Powell and Anders Hurst from The Morning Show are going
- 44:43Speaker 2: to be there. It's your chance to sit in on
- 44:46Speaker 2: a one-of-a-kind field session with a former NFL quarterback and
- 44:48Speaker 2: our quarterback here at KJR, Hugh Mellon, in person.
- 44:52Speaker 3: It's free. All you got to do is text. Well,
- 44:54Speaker 3: you don't have to, but we'd like you to text.
- 44:56Speaker 3: So we have a head count. Text 49451.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Limited space, people. Your name, email, and how many seats
- 45:02Speaker 2: you want to reserve. Text that to 49451. Your name, email,
- 45:04Speaker 2: and how many seats you want to reserve for this afternoon.
- 45:08Speaker 3: 430.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Doors open 5 o'clock. The start of Hugh Millen's Chalk
- 45:12Speaker 2: Talk at the Tulalip Resort and Casino. Talking about the Seahawks.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Probably throwing about the Huskies, I'm sure, as well. Who
- 45:18Speaker 2: play Iowa tomorrow night at Husky Stadium. The Seahawks play
- 45:21Speaker 2: the 49ers. on Sunday at Lumen Field for the NFC
- 45:24Speaker 2: West lead. Farhan Lalji will be there, TSN Canada NFL reporter.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Great friend of mine saw him at Seahawk headquarters yesterday.
- 45:31Speaker 2: He joins us in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline as he
- 45:33Speaker 2: does every Thursday at this time.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Hello, sir.
- 45:37Speaker 8: What's going on, buddy? I'm feeling good. I'm feeling young
- 45:40Speaker 8: and spry. Jessamyn just told me that my Apple pick
- 45:42Speaker 8: looks really, really good. And it's not even AI. So
- 45:45Speaker 8: she likes the jacket and the shades. I'm going to
- 45:47Speaker 8: have to tell my wife, like, this is how you
- 45:49Speaker 8: need to imagine me, you know, the next time, you know.
- 45:53Speaker 8: So it's a great picture.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 45:57Speaker 2: She's great at making everyone feel very good and positive.
- 46:02Speaker 8: No, you know what? I like Greg Bell's picture when
- 46:05Speaker 8: he's in the field. If you look at his Twitter profile,
- 46:07Speaker 8: the top picture, he's in combat. He's in battle. That's
- 46:11Speaker 8: the picture.
- 46:13Speaker 3: I do have a pinned picture of my time at
- 46:14Speaker 3: Fort Lewis out at Yakima Training Center out on the
- 46:17Speaker 3: firing range.
- 46:18Speaker 4: That picture tells a thousand words.
- 46:19Speaker 3: That's my squad of S2. That is true.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Far out of sight yesterday. You're going to be at
- 46:25Speaker 2: the big game on Sunday. What do you think about
- 46:29Speaker 2: the 4-0 49ers? I remember distinctly you saying at the
- 46:32Speaker 2: beginning of the season you thought this was a two-team
- 46:34Speaker 2: race between the Rams and Seahawks for the NFC West,
- 46:37Speaker 2: but here come the 49ers with some health and with
- 46:40Speaker 2: Brock Purdy, 11 touchdowns, one interception, 70% completion rate, 57.5 conversion.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Rate on third down, and he's yet to be sacked.
- 46:50Speaker 3: He's the first quarterback.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Since Peyton Manning in 2005 with the Colts did not
- 46:55Speaker 2: be sacked through the first four games.
- 46:57Speaker 3: Of a season. What's going on and what is Brock
- 47:00Speaker 3: Purdy doing right? What are the 49ers? Why are they 4-0?
- 47:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:04Speaker 3: You know what?
- 47:05Speaker 8: Like I'm starting to believe. And I, and I did
- 47:07Speaker 8: say that you can save that receipt and I'll absolutely
- 47:09Speaker 8: own it. I thought this was going to be, and
- 47:13Speaker 8: the reason for that was just their health, right? You
- 47:15Speaker 8: hit on it. And, and I, I think maybe on
- 47:18Speaker 8: some levels I overplayed it because of the people that
- 47:22Speaker 8: were injured at the time.
- 47:23Speaker 10: Right.
- 47:24Speaker 8: And, and, Christian McCaffrey wasn't doing much in training camp.
- 47:27Speaker 8: I wasn't sure what he'd look like at the start
- 47:29Speaker 8: of the season. You know, his, his role is elevating
- 47:31Speaker 8: 10 carries the first two games, 15 carries the last
- 47:34Speaker 8: two games. But then when you look at the receivers, right? Like, well,
- 47:37Speaker 8: Ricky Pearsall and DeMarcus Robinson and Deshaun Stribling, uh, are good.
- 47:42Speaker 8: They're not necessarily elite guys. They wouldn't have been their
- 47:45Speaker 8: top targets. You got Mike Evans. You know, he missed
- 47:48Speaker 8: a game early with health, but now he's playing at
- 47:50Speaker 8: a really high level. And then look at the guys
- 47:52Speaker 8: that have been injured that have come back, right? So
- 47:54Speaker 8: Fred Warner, George Kittle, those guys have stepped into the
- 47:57Speaker 8: lineup and played the game at a high level. I mean,
- 47:59Speaker 8: I know before that LA game, they were talking about
- 48:01Speaker 8: maybe Kittle starting the season on pop. He didn't played
- 48:04Speaker 8: in the first game. And now he's got four touchdowns
- 48:05Speaker 8: in four games. You've got Debo Samuel and Dre Greenlaw
- 48:09Speaker 8: who were away from the team a year ago. They'd
- 48:11Speaker 8: come back and it's like nothing ever happened. You know,
- 48:13Speaker 8: like it was like the Dallas dream season that never happened.
- 48:16Speaker 8: I mean, they're, they're right back and they're going after it.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 48:19Speaker 8: And, and Kyle, you check who's not going to be
- 48:22Speaker 8: available this week, but like a lot of these veteran
- 48:24Speaker 8: players are instantly playing at a high level. And then
- 48:27Speaker 8: you mentioned Brock Purdy, right? Um, If you look at
- 48:30Speaker 8: the numbers, I look at his EPA, he is leading
- 48:32Speaker 8: the league by a wide on backs. And then his
- 48:36Speaker 8: EPA on dropbacks when being pressured is second in the league.
- 48:40Speaker 8: So there's not really an easy answer in terms of
- 48:43Speaker 8: how to deal with him, right? Because whether you're, whether
- 48:45Speaker 8: you let him throw or whether you try to pressure
- 48:47Speaker 8: him and make it hard for him, he seems to
- 48:49Speaker 8: find a way. And, you know, he was always this
- 48:51Speaker 8: guy that, had Moxie, right? And Moxie's kind of a
- 48:54Speaker 8: word we use for a guy that's kind of young
- 48:57Speaker 8: and spry, but not overly athletic, but he can kind
- 48:59Speaker 8: of do some things in the pocket. This guy's not
- 49:02Speaker 8: turned from Moxie to pure playmaker, right? Like the way
- 49:04Speaker 8: he's able to extend and throw pass down the field
- 49:08Speaker 8: while going in the wrong direction and doing some crazy stuff.
- 49:11Speaker 8: Like he is living his life to the fullest right now. So,
- 49:14Speaker 8: you know, when you talk about that number that he
- 49:16Speaker 8: hasn't been sacked yet, he could become the fifth quarterback
- 49:19Speaker 8: ever to be above 100% pass or 100 passer rating
- 49:24Speaker 8: and two touchdowns in his first five games. If he
- 49:27Speaker 8: does it again this Sunday, the other four guys to
- 49:29Speaker 8: do that, Brady Manning, Aaron Rogers, Russell Wilson, not a
- 49:34Speaker 8: bad group to be associated with, man.
- 49:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Brock Purdy's got him going, and you mentioned Mike Evans.
- 49:41Speaker 3: At his age, he played through a rib.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Injury, cracked or whatever it was, and that's why he
- 49:46Speaker 2: missed a game. I'm not sure he's fully healthy, talking
- 49:49Speaker 2: to some 49ers people of mine.
- 49:50Speaker 3: All right, the Rams.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Now back to 2-2, the escape in Philadelphia when they
- 49:55Speaker 2: were down two scores in the fourth quarter, yet they
- 49:57Speaker 2: still won 24-20. Now they got the Bills at home.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Bills get their first loss of the season at home
- 50:02Speaker 2: to the Patriots, who you and I both agree are
- 50:04Speaker 2: not a very good team, I don't think, and I
- 50:07Speaker 2: think the I'm with you. I think the Patriots, you
- 50:09Speaker 2: said it first, aren't even going to make the playoffs.
- 50:12Speaker 2: How do you see Bill's Rams? Do you think the
- 50:14Speaker 2: Rams could lose that one at home because of Josh
- 50:17Speaker 2: Allen and the Bill's offense, or the Bill's defense really
- 50:20Speaker 2: worry you?
- 50:23Speaker 8: Both right. Like, I mean, Josh Allen can win any
- 50:25Speaker 8: football game. You just can't, you can will the team
- 50:27Speaker 8: that way, but you talk about them losing their first game.
- 50:30Speaker 8: They should truly be one in three, Greg, right? Because
- 50:33Speaker 8: how did they beat the chargers, right? Like five turnovers
- 50:37Speaker 8: to one in the chargers favor in that game and
- 50:39Speaker 8: charge are very good, but really they were the better
- 50:42Speaker 8: team for big chunks of that game. Josh Allen was
- 50:45Speaker 8: pretty ordinary. The week before that they play Houston, Houston
- 50:49Speaker 8: drops a pass in the end zone and, an interception
- 50:52Speaker 8: in the end zone that should have ended the game.
- 50:54Speaker 8: They had multiple opportunities to put that game away between
- 50:57Speaker 8: some weird officiating and, and just gift opportunities back to
- 51:01Speaker 8: the bills. You know, the bills take advantage and all
- 51:04Speaker 8: of a sudden they're.
- 51:04Speaker 3: Three in one.
- 51:05Speaker 8: And like, I just don't think they've been particularly good
- 51:07Speaker 8: this year. So yeah, their defense is a problem. Um,
- 51:12Speaker 8: They're receiving core, like in terms of how Joe Brady
- 51:14Speaker 8: has called his games, you know, and sometimes just not
- 51:17Speaker 8: getting the Dawson's is involved as much.
- 51:19Speaker 6: As he could.
- 51:20Speaker 8: And like, there's been some weird moments with that offense. Right. And,
- 51:24Speaker 8: and we kind of get force fed up here in Canada,
- 51:27Speaker 8: the bills, like they're a Toronto team. So yeah, like I,
- 51:30Speaker 8: I think the Rams are going to win that game.
- 51:32Speaker 8: I think the Rams will win it at home. I
- 51:33Speaker 8: think they're the better team. I think they've got fewer
- 51:36Speaker 8: holes in their lineup, but you can never write out
- 51:40Speaker 8: Josh Allen because if he decides to pull up the
- 51:41Speaker 8: Superman cape, there's not a damn thing anybody can do
- 51:44Speaker 8: about it because he's that good. We just haven't seen it,
- 51:47Speaker 8: and they've still miraculously found ways to win games this season.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Back to the NFC, Michael Penix and his couple games back,
- 51:54Speaker 2: and the Falcons' offense, scoring 45.
- 51:57Speaker 3: The other night in the Superdome, and I mean... Are
- 52:01Speaker 3: they legit?
- 52:01Speaker 2: And is Penix what we thought and saw as the
- 52:04Speaker 2: Washington Huskies national championship quarterback? You and I watched that
- 52:07Speaker 2: game in Houston a few years ago. If Bajon Robinson's
- 52:11Speaker 2: going to go for 145 on the ground, this offense
- 52:14Speaker 2: with Penix and quarterback, this might be the division winner
- 52:17Speaker 2: in the South, no?
- 52:18Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 52:20Speaker 8: I think they're going to win the division. And when
- 52:22Speaker 8: you look at the difference a quarterback can make, It's
- 52:24Speaker 8: remarkable because the first two weeks, it looked like they
- 52:26Speaker 8: were dead and buried. And, you know, forget what Panics
- 52:29Speaker 8: did at Washington, which is certainly hard for me as
- 52:30Speaker 8: a big Husky fan to do. His first year when
- 52:33Speaker 8: he got the ball from Kirk Cousins over, I thought
- 52:36Speaker 8: he looked pretty good that year. And then the second
- 52:38Speaker 8: year before the injury, I thought he looked terrible. So
- 52:41Speaker 8: he looks like the guy we saw in the first
- 52:43Speaker 8: year that he's building off of that. If you look
- 52:46Speaker 8: at a quarterback in a better position to succeed, you're
- 52:49Speaker 8: going to have to let me know. Because it's not
- 52:51Speaker 8: just Bijan Robinson who, for my money, It's the best
- 52:55Speaker 8: running back in the league right now. Like the most complete,
- 52:58Speaker 8: the most fun to watch, the most exciting. With all
- 53:01Speaker 8: due respect to Kenneth Walker and what he's doing in
- 53:02Speaker 8: Kansas City, I love watching Dijon Robinson play football, and
- 53:06Speaker 8: his line is outstanding. So you've got a quarterback who
- 53:10Speaker 8: has the ability to be protected, which certainly matters when
- 53:13Speaker 8: you consider Pennix health history. You've got an elite running
- 53:16Speaker 8: back that you can lean on, and you've got a
- 53:18Speaker 8: receiving core that maybe isn't like... you know, they, they
- 53:21Speaker 8: might not have a Justin Jefferson, a type of player,
- 53:24Speaker 8: but they've kind of got that next year, right? Like they,
- 53:27Speaker 8: they might not have that elite one, two guys, but
- 53:29Speaker 8: they've got, you know, a bunch of guys that you
- 53:31Speaker 8: can win with. You know, I've always talked about how
- 53:33Speaker 8: bad the chargers or Stephen core is like the Falcons
- 53:35Speaker 8: are still a group that you can work with and
- 53:38Speaker 8: have success with, you know, even if Drake London, you know,
- 53:40Speaker 8: can't run a 40, right. They still do some good things.
- 53:43Speaker 8: So I think, and their defense is solid, right? So
- 53:45Speaker 8: like I look at Enix, And unlike most quarterbacks who
- 53:49Speaker 8: take over a team early in their career, and this
- 53:50Speaker 8: is now your three, she is in a position to succeed.
- 53:55Speaker 8: And it's cool to watch him do it because he
- 53:57Speaker 8: can make every throw and he looks comfortable currently making
- 54:01Speaker 8: every throw. Cause first game he played those remember the
- 54:04Speaker 8: first quarter and it changed like the first 20 minutes.
- 54:07Speaker 8: I'm thinking, Oh boy, this is like the second year
- 54:09Speaker 8: of Michael Penix. And since then it's the first year
- 54:12Speaker 8: of Michael Penix.
- 54:13Speaker 2: They still have Tua Tungvalu on their roster in Atlanta.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Is he possibly a trade, somebody that the Falcons could
- 54:19Speaker 2: trade to a quarterback-needy team? You get another injury, a
- 54:21Speaker 2: quarterback or some teams that, I don't know, off the
- 54:24Speaker 2: top of the head who might do it, but Giants perhaps.
- 54:27Speaker 3: They just got J.G. McCarthy. Do you think they're going
- 54:31Speaker 3: to keep Tungvalu as insurance, or what do you think
- 54:33Speaker 3: they do with the trade deadline November 10th?
- 54:36Speaker 8: Well, I mean, it all depends on where you're at
- 54:38Speaker 8: at that point and what you're getting offered for, right?
- 54:40Speaker 8: Is it worth training to a tongue of a law
- 54:42Speaker 8: for a, for a fifth or sixth round draft pick,
- 54:45Speaker 8: which is probably what he would command at this stage
- 54:48Speaker 8: of the proceedings, right? So if you all of a
- 54:50Speaker 8: sudden have won a bunch of games till then, and
- 54:51Speaker 8: you look like you're in really good shape to win
- 54:53Speaker 8: the division, you might want the insurance, right? And then
- 54:56Speaker 8: maybe you don't think Cooper rush can be that guy.
- 54:58Speaker 8: So especially after you saw the first two games. So
- 55:02Speaker 8: And it doesn't seem built.
- 55:03Speaker 3: To win now, right?
- 55:04Speaker 8: I don't know that they're a Super Bowl contender, but
- 55:07Speaker 8: they can go a couple of rounds deep in the playoffs.
- 55:10Speaker 8: They're not young, young, right? They're not old at all.
- 55:14Speaker 8: So I would, again, it depends on where you're at.
- 55:17Speaker 8: I mean, if they win their next six before then,
- 55:21Speaker 8: which I think they can absolutely do if you look
- 55:23Speaker 8: at their schedule. and they don't get offered a lot
- 55:28Speaker 8: for two of them. They don't get at least a
- 55:29Speaker 8: second-round pick for two of them. I don't know that
- 55:31Speaker 8: I'd trade them. I'd hang on to them.
- 55:33Speaker 2: If the Falcons win that NFC South, they're going to
- 55:35Speaker 2: have a home playoff game, at least one home playoff
- 55:37Speaker 2: game in Atlanta.
- 55:39Speaker 3: The next game's coming up for Atlanta to start on
- 55:41Speaker 3: Sunday night. It's the Sunday night game at home against Baltimore.
- 55:44Speaker 3: Then they've got Chicago and San Francisco at home. Three
- 55:46Speaker 3: games at home in a row for Atlanta at Tampa
- 55:49Speaker 3: Bay versus Cincinnati tonight. before November 15th versus Kansas City
- 55:53Speaker 3: and then a bye week for the Falcons.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Is Justin Herbert broken? Because in the first half he did.
- 55:58Speaker 2: He's five for 14. He looked broken for the Chargers
- 56:02Speaker 2: offense looked broken. Then the Seahawks started giving him drive-extending penalties,
- 56:07Speaker 2: and all of a sudden Herbert started throwing dimes all
- 56:09Speaker 2: over the field and brought him within seven points. The
- 56:12Speaker 2: Mike McDaniel, Jim Harbaugh, Meshing– the whole Mike McDaniel and
- 56:17Speaker 2: the orbit motions and all the pre-snap candy and funky
- 56:21Speaker 2: does Justin Herbert, not meshing.
- 56:23Speaker 3: What do you think is going on there with the
- 56:24Speaker 3: chargers and Herbert?
- 56:25Speaker 8: It looks broken. And like, look, maybe that half of
- 56:30Speaker 8: football where he finally had some success this season is
- 56:34Speaker 8: going to lead to something that they can build on. Maybe,
- 56:36Speaker 8: but my doubt should I have since the start of
- 56:38Speaker 8: the year, just because I got to like Mike McDaniel.
- 56:40Speaker 8: I think he's an incredibly creative guy, but you know,
- 56:45Speaker 8: When you have Mike McDaniel, you kind of need a
- 56:47Speaker 8: quarterback that does some different things in my estimation. And,
- 56:51Speaker 8: you know, you've got to have a guy that kind
- 56:52Speaker 8: of can get the ball out of his hands quick.
- 56:54Speaker 8: You know, the reads tend to get a little simpler.
- 56:57Speaker 8: Justin Herbert is much more of a downfield passer. And
- 57:00Speaker 8: when you look at his downfield accuracy this season, it's
- 57:04Speaker 8: a disaster. Like, I don't know who we're watching. You know,
- 57:07Speaker 8: I know they were tweaking his stance at the start
- 57:09Speaker 8: of the training camp because they thought it would lend
- 57:12Speaker 8: itself more to McDaniel's offense in the quick game and
- 57:15Speaker 8: some of the things that they're trying to marry up.
- 57:19Speaker 8: I'm not a big Jim Harbaugh guy, but I also
- 57:21Speaker 8: feel that Jim Harbaugh has never been afraid to try
- 57:23Speaker 8: something different. He wanted to get more out of Justin Herbert,
- 57:27Speaker 8: so he hired Mike McDaniel. Because when you look at
- 57:30Speaker 8: the offense in the last two seasons, when you look
- 57:33Speaker 8: at Herbert's performance, even though they were 11-5 and got
- 57:36Speaker 8: into the playoffs both years, his numbers were slightly down
- 57:41Speaker 8: over what he'd done earlier in his career when everything
- 57:44Speaker 8: leaned on him as opposed to trying to run the
- 57:45Speaker 8: football a bit more. So they're still trying to figure
- 57:49Speaker 8: out that marriage. But people don't realize that Mike McDaniel
- 57:53Speaker 8: is a run-first coach. A lot of that eye candy
- 57:56Speaker 8: is set up for the run game, not just for
- 57:58Speaker 8: the pass game. They haven't really been able to get
- 58:00Speaker 8: that going. The offensive line is really, really banged up.
- 58:04Speaker 8: um so I like I just don't know that if
- 58:08Speaker 8: Herbert can build off what he did last week because
- 58:10Speaker 8: of the state of the roster so I you know
- 58:13Speaker 8: I think it's gonna stay bad right I don't know
- 58:15Speaker 8: that this team's going very far and are going to
- 58:17Speaker 8: be able to rescue themselves I think they're going to
- 58:19Speaker 8: be 0-5 this week and we've never seen an 0-5
- 58:21Speaker 8: team make the playoffs.
- 58:23Speaker 2: Right exactly Farhan Lalji TSN Canada NFL reporter for the
- 58:27Speaker 2: National Network up there a great friend of mine we
- 58:29Speaker 2: see him all the time down here around the Seahawks
- 58:31Speaker 2: and Huskies and more. He joins us on the Beacon
- 58:33Speaker 2: Plumbing Hotline every Thursday at 11 o'clock. You've been a coach.
- 58:38Speaker 2: You're in the B.C. Football Hall of Fame, for heaven's sakes.
- 58:42Speaker 2: You know about officials. And what is going on with
- 58:45Speaker 2: Aiden Hill, the referee, going after a guy for accidentally
- 58:47Speaker 2: hitting him from behind? And the referee, the back judge,
- 58:51Speaker 2: Jeff Seaman, just F-bombing.
- 58:54Speaker 3: I mean, just going after Trey McBride.
- 58:58Speaker 2: Is this becoming like an ump show in Major League Baseball,
- 59:00Speaker 2: or do you think this is just the abnormality of
- 59:02Speaker 2: one real bad Sunday for the Stripes?
- 59:05Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, you sure hope not, right? I know
- 59:07Speaker 8: that we study officiating and which officials... make.
- 59:12Speaker 4: We may have lost Farhan for a second there.
- 59:15Speaker 10: No!
- 59:19Speaker 2: Farhan is in the BAC, British Columbia Football Hall of Fame.
- 59:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I did not know that.
- 59:22Speaker 3: Yeah, there's all kinds of little things.
- 59:24Speaker 7: That's why he looks so fly in his picture. That's
- 59:26Speaker 7: probably from his induction, that's right. But if you missed it,
- 59:30Speaker 7: the question was about the officiating. First of all, there
- 59:32Speaker 7: were a ton of penalties this past week. And you
- 59:35Speaker 7: saw the Seahawks-Charger game have 30 accepted penalties, 150 yards,
- 59:39Speaker 7: a team record. But then Aiden Hill in a game
- 59:42Speaker 7: went after a player who accidentally was pushed into him
- 59:47Speaker 7: from behind. The official got up and started swinging.
- 59:50Speaker 2: And then we had Jeff Seaman, a back judge at
- 59:52Speaker 2: the Giants-Cardinals game, F-bombing Trey McBride. I think we got
- 59:56Speaker 2: you back now, B.C. Hall of Famer, B.C. Football Hall
- 59:59Speaker 2: of Famer Farhan Lalji. Signing autographs, you had to step away.
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: You know what?
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: Yeah, I know, and I had four bars this time,
- 1:00:06Speaker 8: so this time it was you, not me.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: Yeah, okay.
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: Blame me. It's always the producer's fault, Farhan.
- 1:00:13Speaker 8: No, it's never your fault because you say.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: My picture's good.
- 1:00:19Speaker 8: You're right, though, like, You know, when you look at
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: the NFL, we study officials and, you know, this officiating
- 1:00:24Speaker 8: crew is likely to make more pass interference calls. They're
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: likely to make more holding calls, whatever it happens to be.
- 1:00:29Speaker 8: But officials don't take the game over, right? Like, you know,
- 1:00:32Speaker 8: the umpires, it's a strike zone, right? Even now with
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: the ABS, it's gotten better. But sports like hockey and baseball, like,
- 1:00:41Speaker 8: you know, the officials take things over. You know their personalities.
- 1:00:45Speaker 8: They bark back. We don't get a lot of that
- 1:00:48Speaker 8: in football. We don't get a lot of that in basketball.
- 1:00:50Speaker 8: And I don't want to see that change. So, you know,
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: I'm glad the NFL kind of, you know, they, they
- 1:00:56Speaker 8: hit an ant with a sledgehammer in this case, right?
- 1:00:59Speaker 8: Like they want to make a point. Obviously the PA
- 1:01:02Speaker 8: is going to support that, right? Because they're protecting their players.
- 1:01:04Speaker 8: And I look, I've been on sidelines for games where
- 1:01:07Speaker 8: there are times the officials go free or the coaches
- 1:01:10Speaker 8: go crazy on officials and make Rabel who got a
- 1:01:13Speaker 8: 15 yard penalty in the last game. I talked about
- 1:01:16Speaker 8: the fact that what I said, I probably have said
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: 87 times before in my career. I think it should stop.
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: I think respect has to go both ways. I think
- 1:01:24Speaker 8: players and coaches shouldn't be able to say some of
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: the things they do to officials. I think that's just
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: flat out wrong. You create a level of tension and hostility.
- 1:01:33Speaker 8: We're not used to seeing the officials bark back, and
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: they've been instructed not to, but... You know, like, I'm
- 1:01:39Speaker 8: sure this isn't the first time it's happened, but I
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: hope it's the last. And I hope that that works
- 1:01:43Speaker 8: both ways because, you know, it can create a pretty
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: intimidating environment for officials to work in. We talk about
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: youth officials and, you know, parents screaming from the stands.
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: It's not great for a professional official, whether they're getting
- 1:01:55Speaker 8: paid $ 300, 000 or not, like that doesn't matter. What we
- 1:01:59Speaker 8: see on the sidelines both ways isn't good. Truthfully, I'm
- 1:02:02Speaker 8: glad that the league reacted the way it did because
- 1:02:04Speaker 8: I hope it sends a message to both sides, not
- 1:02:07Speaker 8: just the officials.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: I think they're sending across the bow message to everybody
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: with the suspensions, whether you think they're heavy-handed or not.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Farhan, I appreciate you, man.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: I'll see you at the stadium on Sunday, and we'll
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: talk to you next Thursday as well.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: Thanks, man.
- 1:02:22Speaker 8: Let's have an omelet together.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: We shall. An omelet together. Let's go. In the stadium.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: What's your favorite filling on an omelet?
- 1:02:32Speaker 8: Let's see. Turkey sausage because they don't eat pork and
- 1:02:36Speaker 8: they have that there.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: I'm with you on that.
- 1:02:39Speaker 8: Green and red peppers. Onions and mushrooms.
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: There we go.
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: We can have an omelet together. That's like literally the
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: exact order that I would make. Get there.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Get there. Well, hey.
- 1:02:53Speaker 8: Let's do it.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: I have a Friday night game. I actually will be
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: home on this Sunday.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you will.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: Come on out to the stadium. Thanks, Farhan. I'll see
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: you Sunday.
- 1:02:59Speaker 9: All right.
- 1:03:01Speaker 8: See you guys.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: Farhan Lalji, TSN Canada, the NFL reporter, will be in
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: the stadium with me on Sunday when the Seahawks and
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: the 49ers play for first place. The undefeated 49ers play
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: for first place in the NFC West. Lots of comments
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: on the Tacoma Dodge text line about their starting the show,
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: talking about Journalism, performative journalism on television. I'm not even
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: going to call it journalism. Elaine Johnson, mental health. We'll
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: talk about that. We'll talk about any talkbacks you have
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: on the TalkBack app. Jessamyn's going to play those back.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: She's also going to give you a fact or fiction
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: pick for your chance to win $ 1, 000 from the Lucky
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: I'm jetting out down.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: To Seahawks to get there in time to talk to
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: Sam Darnold, maybe talk to another new running back the
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Seahawks have in the locker room. Jessamyn, next with your
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: talkbacks and part of the show.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: So send them in.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: Give me more. I want more voices because Greg is
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: saying goodbye.
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: Factor Fiction next. I'll talk to you tomorrow on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:04:17Speaker 12: If we somehow manage to beat the 49ers, and I
- 1:04:19Speaker 12: hope we do, on Monday, we better have that Marshawn
- 1:04:23Speaker 12: Lynch clip ready when he's walking around Vegas scrolling 49ers
- 1:04:27Speaker 12: fans going, if you obviously edited, but we need that
- 1:04:32Speaker 12: on standby.
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: Appreciate that edit.
- 1:04:34Speaker 10: Hey there, Jessamyn. Good luck, Greg. I really, really hope
- 1:04:41Speaker 10: that the Seahawks are listening. Your most reliable option behind
- 1:04:47Speaker 10: the line of scrimmage to hand the ball off to
- 1:04:49Speaker 10: is Emmanuel Wilson. Just don't make him go side to side, please.
- 1:04:54Speaker 10: Try to make this an inside zone situation this weekend.
- 1:04:58Speaker 10: I really believe in this kid to just carry us
- 1:05:01Speaker 10: until Charbonnet's ready.
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: Go Hawks!
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: Thank you very much. Again, this is Jessamyn McIntyre at
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: the Greg Bell Show. Greg is off to do what
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: he does best, and that is to cover the Seahawks.
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: And I also very much appreciate the self edits that
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: you guys do throughout this show. When you send in,
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: when you hit that little red microphone on the iHeartRadio
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: app and just self edit, because it's so much work
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: for me to beep it. I do appreciate passion though.
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: So I am always open to editing as well. We
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: have a ton coming in on the text line as well.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: Speaking of the text line, I do want to remind
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: everyone that we have a huge, very special event that
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: is happening tonight. This is at 5 o'clock, and it
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: is hosted by Hugh Millen with Chuck Powell and Anders Hurst,
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: and it's at the Canoes Cabaret at Tulalip Resort Casino.
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: So what you don't maybe, I don't know, those who
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: listen a lot and get to hear Hugh a lot,
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: He breaks down game film almost like none other. This
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: is why I always love listening to him and Greg
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: Gassell once a year, getting it together and having the
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: opportunity to actually break down film. So what you will
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: get at this is an in-person game breakdown, all 22.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: And if you don't know what that is, then you
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: should go and actually see it because Greg And Hugh, Hugh,
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: Greg won't be there, but Hugh breaks down film like
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: none other. And he'll actually tell you why. He'll give
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: you all of the experience that you want. All you
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: have to do is text in your name and your
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: email address and how many tickets you want, because they're
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: going pretty fast. We still have some openings. So please
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: just text in 49451. If you want to go earlier today,
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: two Oh six says, what a great clip from the
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: 28 year old Vin Scully, that fabulously scratchy audio. I
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: can't believe he was 28. That was very back in
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: the old timey days. You could hear the classic voice.
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: Thank you for sharing that special moment on KJR, Greg,
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: a great decade in baseball. It absolutely was. And yes,
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: we will have factor fiction on time. Four to five.
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: We are just about a minute away from, And then
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: there are a lot more people who want to come in.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: 206 says, y'all had me with the omelet until you
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: said mushrooms.
- 1:07:27Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: I don't like raw mushrooms, but I really like them cooked.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: I'll tell you that. We have a lot of people
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: coming in about the running game. But you know what
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: we have to do? I have to abandon the text
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: because it is time to win $ 1, 000. We're set to go.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: Glad you're with us.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000. And the $ 10, 000
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: grand prize. It's Fact or Fiction. Proudly presented by Lucky
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Eagle Casino and Hotel. Where every day feels lucky. Fact
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: or Fiction is on. Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: And I'd like to stay true to my theme because
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: I do not pick college football games. As someone who
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: works in college football, it feels unethical to me, even
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: though it probably isn't really that big a deal. But
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: I am going with a pick. Again, if you agree with.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: Me, text.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: Fact 2049451. If you disagree with me, text FICTION. I
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: don't care. Either way, you don't have to agree with me.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: You could win $ 1, 000. And you could also get entered
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: in to win $ 10, 000. The more you vote, whether it
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: be fact or fiction.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: The more chances you have at 10 grand at the
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: end of this contest, which ends on December 11th. So
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: you can fact, fact, fact, fiction or fiction or fiction.
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: I'm going with the Vikings minus two and a half
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: as they face the Saints. And I will tell you why.
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: Minnesota is 4-0. and oh, and I know that they're
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: going to the Saints. But I just really believe I
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: can't believe no one picked this yet. And I can't
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: believe the line is what it is. But I'm taking
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: the Minnesota Vikings minus two and a half. at the
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: New Orleans Saints, and that is this Sunday. It's a
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: 10 a.m. Pacific time game, so get up early if
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: you choose to subscribe to whatever I say. I just
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: think it just makes a lot of sense that even
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: if they're going to win, they're just going to win
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: by a field goal or more. And this one is
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: just a little too easy for me to pick, and
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: no one else had picked it I'm going through the
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: sheet right now. By the way, Greg and I, let's
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: look at the show standings. We still remain in first place.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: I'm batting a solid 500 when it comes to Factor Fiction.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: So I do appreciate those who agree with me. And
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: I do appreciate those who don't because I just like
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: your participation. And anyway, we do have some more people
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: who are very, very much in to the Hugh Millen
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: Chalk Talk. Again, that's at the Tulalip Resort and Casino.
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: So just make sure you get in. And by the way,
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: if you hadn't got a confirmation quite yet, don't worry.
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: Chris Kidd will get back to you and you will
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: get in. You will get in because we have not
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: hit capacity quite yet. But please, please get in as
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: soon as you can because these are filling up very,
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: very quickly. I do like those people saying that's a
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: good call. So thank you very much. I do like
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: to be flattered. Let's see.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: I'm getting back to the text right now because we
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: did have to get that fact or fiction pick. I
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: mentioned that tonight I'm going to be flying into Salt
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: Lake City for the Cougs game, which is tomorrow night.
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: So tonight I'm flying in and the 206 said it's
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: awesome to fly in there. You drop down so quickly
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: into that airport like a roller coaster flying through LA. Yes,
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: I do agree that that is the case. It is
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: for those who have flown into Salt Lake City. It
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: is quite a drop once you get in between those.
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: It's not cliffs. It's buttes. It's very wind driven plains
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: that are in there that are mountains. Anyway, do appreciate
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: you guys letting us know that Greg's mic was on.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: We were giggling about an off-air joke, and luckily you
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: couldn't hear the joke. It wasn't even inappropriate, but yes,
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: I do appreciate you letting us know that Greg's mic
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: was on. We also, at the beginning of the show,
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: talked about the unfortunate way that Stephen A. Smith had
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: chosen to address an NFL player's coming out and talking
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: about mental health issues. This from the 360. I appreciate
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: you guys taking the time to talk about Stephen A.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: Smith and Johnson's retirement because of mental health. It's real.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: And that's what it's about. I appreciate you guys. Absolutely
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: love the show. We love you for listening. Thank you
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: very much. I do appreciate the U.S. Coast Guard listener.
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: Sarah's a brethren, Sarah Bell, out there. And I think
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: she is out in Tokyo or Okinawa right now, but
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: stationed in Hawaii. So thank you very much for your
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: support in my pick. I do think I am correct
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: on that. Also, just remember that Ian Furness, especially, I
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: wouldn't call it fortuitous timing, but it is pretty important
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: timing that The Holinskis, both Mark and Kim, will be
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: on with Ian Furness today. And it has to coincide
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: with the end of the Mayor of Maple Valley. The
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: final keg is being sold tonight at Georgetown Brewery. So
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: please come and say hi to Ian as he hoists
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: the last one of that. And go buy whatever you can.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: They do growlers. They do growlers. And at this time,
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: I think it's a very important time. conversation that both
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: Mark and Kim Holinsky can add to. I added earlier
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: that former offensive lineman Cole Madison, who was drafted in
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: the NFL, he went to the Packers, he stepped back.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: And no one shamed him for that. But he was
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: a very good friend of Tyler Holinsky. And even though
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: he was a drafted NFL player, He was in the NFL,
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: the pinnacle of his career, and he stepped back to
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: take care of himself. And I was so proud of
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: him for that. Instead of going on television for $ 100
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: million and shaming someone for doing so. And whatever trite
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: crap Stephen A. Smith said later, I think the damage
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: is done. Anyway, thank you for listening. This is Jessamyn
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: McIntyre and The Greg Bell Show. Ian's up next and
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: will tell us more about what he's got coming up.
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: Welcome back to The Greg Bell Show. My name is
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: Jessamyn McIntyre. Greg is doing all the jobs right now.
- 1:14:07Speaker 6: All the jobs.
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: He's going to get you ready. Welcome in with the
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: guy I left.
- 1:14:12Speaker 11: You left me.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: You left me. Anders left me. You left me. Shockey
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: left me. Sobrowski left me. They all left me.
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: There's a lowest common denominator here, Ian.
- 1:14:22Speaker 11: There is.
- 1:14:23Speaker 9: Ashley!
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: No, she's still here.
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: She's still here.
- 1:14:26Speaker 11: I've already been with her today. She's already working. Hey,
- 1:14:29Speaker 11: I want to mention this real quick because at noon,
- 1:14:34Speaker 11: not earlier, not 11-59-59, at noon, we start getting our
- 1:14:38Speaker 11: fun syntax. Last week we had Jess, last week we
- 1:14:41Speaker 11: had a dozen that came in within one second.
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: After the hour.
- 1:14:48Speaker 11: Another like 20 that came in two to four seconds after.
- 1:14:51Speaker 11: It was crazy.
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: I appreciate the tenacity.
- 1:14:53Speaker 11: So let me just tell people about this because you
- 1:14:54Speaker 11: want to do it right now. Tonight up at the
- 1:14:56Speaker 11: Tulalip Resort Casino, Hugh Millen is hosting a chalk talk
- 1:15:02Speaker 11: that only Hugh Millen can do.
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: Why?
- 1:15:03Speaker 11: Because he's Hugh. He's Millen. There's one guy that can
- 1:15:06Speaker 11: do this. We used to do this for the KJR Carousel.
- 1:15:08Speaker 11: I thought it was a huge hit and sold out
- 1:15:10Speaker 11: every year. So you could basically, you're going to watch
- 1:15:14Speaker 11: all 22 coaches tape with Hugh and he'll give you
- 1:15:17Speaker 11: the perspective, hidden details. It's going to be a ton
- 1:15:19Speaker 11: of fun. You can sit on it. Basically a film
- 1:15:22Speaker 11: session that NFL players and coaches get experienced every week.
- 1:15:24Speaker 11: You get to sit on that with Hugh Millen, our guy,
- 1:15:26Speaker 11: Hugh Millen. It's free doors open at four 30. If
- 1:15:28Speaker 11: you want to go text four, nine, four, five, one,
- 1:15:31Speaker 11: your name, email, and how many seats you want to reserve,
- 1:15:34Speaker 11: and our guy Chris Cade will get back to you.
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: All right, boom.
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:15:36Speaker 11: What do you got? What's going on?
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: Well, what is going on with you? Actually, we had
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: a pretty intense conversation off the start of the show
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: with Stephen A. Smith. His comments. We did not play
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: it because he does not deserve another click.
- 1:15:48Speaker 11: I actually asked Ashley to pull that audio in thoughts
- 1:15:52Speaker 11: of playing it, and I heard you guys talking. I
- 1:15:53Speaker 11: think you're right. I'm not going to give it the airtime.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:55Speaker 11: I don't think he deserves it. I don't think it
- 1:15:57Speaker 11: deserves the oxygen. No, I don't think so.
- 1:15:59Speaker 8: I don't either.
- 1:15:59Speaker 11: Yeah, I did for building. No, he basically took a
- 1:16:01Speaker 11: shot at Lane Johnson, the all pro future hall of
- 1:16:04Speaker 11: fame tackle from Philadelphia who retired this week, uh, both
- 1:16:08Speaker 11: physical and mental issues, uh, going on with him and
- 1:16:11Speaker 11: he's done, he's walking away. And Stephen Smith was very
- 1:16:14Speaker 11: critical of him if his decision to do that. Uh,
- 1:16:16Speaker 11: the irony is it comes on this particular week, which
- 1:16:20Speaker 11: across the country is student mental health week. Uh, student
- 1:16:24Speaker 11: mental health week is a huge deal, uh, over 200
- 1:16:27Speaker 11: colleges and universities 600 teams have joined up across the
- 1:16:31Speaker 11: country from the SEC to the Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12, ACC,
- 1:16:36Speaker 11: big conferences, small conference, D1, D2, D3, NAIA, all across
- 1:16:40Speaker 11: the country trying to get the word out that mental
- 1:16:43Speaker 11: health is a really, really big deal for our young people,
- 1:16:47Speaker 11: especially young student-athletes, but young people as a whole, also
- 1:16:50Speaker 11: those in the military. So for him to do it
- 1:16:53Speaker 11: this particular week is... To say it's egregious and disgusting is, again,
- 1:16:59Speaker 11: probably being too light. But we move on from that
- 1:17:01Speaker 11: because that's not what this is about. It's about helping
- 1:17:03Speaker 11: folks out. We're going to talk to the Holinskys today, Jess,
- 1:17:06Speaker 11: at 1.30.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: Please tell them I say hi.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: I will.
- 1:17:10Speaker 11: Mark and Ryan are going to join us. Tyler's brother
- 1:17:13Speaker 11: are going to join us. Mark, his dad. And just
- 1:17:16Speaker 11: kind of talk about the efforts to help this out.
- 1:17:18Speaker 11: They've partnered with a great group across the country. that
- 1:17:22Speaker 11: involves Mia Hamm and the Muhammad Ali Foundation and others
- 1:17:25Speaker 11: to help with this. And really cool thing in our state,
- 1:17:30Speaker 11: our Washington State Coaches Association is involved with it now too.
- 1:17:34Speaker 11: And you're going to see, if you're going to a
- 1:17:35Speaker 11: high school game this weekend, you're going to see a
- 1:17:37Speaker 11: lot of our high school teams wearing the green ribbons
- 1:17:39Speaker 11: on their helmets this weekend as well. That's very special.
- 1:17:45Speaker 11: And we see the pink every year for breast cancer awareness,
- 1:17:47Speaker 11: rightfully so. Well done. For all football levels, high school, college,
- 1:17:52Speaker 11: in the NFL, and that raises awareness. You know, there's
- 1:17:56Speaker 11: the crucial catch stuff and all that. The little green
- 1:17:59Speaker 11: helmet sticker you see back there, that's the window. That's
- 1:18:01Speaker 11: the door to open up to ask for help. And
- 1:18:04Speaker 11: just to make us aware that many people are struggling
- 1:18:08Speaker 11: like Tyler did, and you may not know it. And
- 1:18:11Speaker 11: you may not know it, but I love the fact
- 1:18:12Speaker 11: that our local high school associations in our state of
- 1:18:15Speaker 11: Washington have partnered up with Alinsky's Hope this year. We'll
- 1:18:18Speaker 11: talk about that and so much more. So that's coming
- 1:18:21Speaker 11: up today at 1.30.
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: Well, I love that. And I brought up the fact
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: that Cole Madison did a similar thing. Yeah. And I
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: had talked about that earlier. And if I.
- 1:18:30Speaker 11: Cole plays in our golf tournament every year, too, which
- 1:18:32Speaker 11: is awesome.
- 1:18:32Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: He's an amazing person.
- 1:18:34Speaker 11: He's with the rest of that... He's probably too nice
- 1:18:37Speaker 11: to be with the rest of those guys, like Bo
- 1:18:39Speaker 11: and Colt and those guys, but the former Wazoo players. No,
- 1:18:41Speaker 11: those guys, I love you guys if you're listening to
- 1:18:43Speaker 11: those great dudes.
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: No, they're all awesome. They're great. I love seeing them
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: every single year that I get to be down there.
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: But yeah, it.
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: The point that I brought up is that, especially because
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: I know Cole, if someone had shamed him at that point,
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: how would I feel now? I don't know. You know,
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: I don't know the Eagles offensive lineman. And I don't
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: personally know. And I was still mad. And it just
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: reminds me of how much, okay, if this was a
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: person you cared about, how would you feel if this person,
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: a talking head, a bobblehead of a person these days,
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: went out, a former journalist, went out and said that?
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: And you could tell his co-hosts were not comfortable with
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: the way he was talking, too. Yeah.
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: How would you feel?
- 1:19:36Speaker 11: I think more important than that is just looking inside
- 1:19:40Speaker 11: your own house, your own team, your own world, and
- 1:19:45Speaker 11: asking if everything's okay.
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: I think that's... I think that's the better message to send.
- 1:19:50Speaker 11: Yeah, I don't think anything has to do with SAS.
- 1:19:53Speaker 11: I think it has to do... I would actually almost
- 1:19:56Speaker 11: take it a different direction. He probably helped the cause
- 1:19:58Speaker 11: a little bit.
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: You're probably right.
- 1:20:00Speaker 11: In a weird, perverse way. He helped it a little bit,
- 1:20:03Speaker 11: but yeah, I mean, I know so many people when
- 1:20:06Speaker 11: I was working in junior hockey in the Western League
- 1:20:08Speaker 11: with Seattle and Tri-Cities and other teams, like I know
- 1:20:10Speaker 11: some kids struggled and in a bad way and years
- 1:20:13Speaker 11: later did, you know, a lot of times you end
- 1:20:16Speaker 11: up with addictions and things like that. Obviously that's not
- 1:20:20Speaker 11: good at all. The worst alternative is what happened to Tyler.
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: So yeah.
- 1:20:24Speaker 11: Death by suicide. So anyway, we'll touch in on that
- 1:20:27Speaker 11: a little bit today. And again, just a shout out
- 1:20:30Speaker 11: to our Washington State Coaches Association and Don Bartell and
- 1:20:33Speaker 11: those guys that took the lead in that. We're big
- 1:20:35Speaker 11: into high school football here. You guys do something every week. Fane,
- 1:20:38Speaker 11: on a non-Husky night, Fane would have Varsity Football Live.
- 1:20:41Speaker 11: I don't think they'll have it tomorrow because the Huskies
- 1:20:43Speaker 11: are playing in the postgame, but we're all in on that.
- 1:20:47Speaker 11: And we'll talk to them at 1.30 today. as well.
- 1:20:50Speaker 11: So big day coming up in that regard. We've got
- 1:20:52Speaker 11: a big show. We've got Ross Tucker coming up today.
- 1:20:54Speaker 11: He's got the Denver Chargers this week on CBS. He's the...
- 1:20:58Speaker 11: I think he's got a Westwood one game, too, but
- 1:21:00Speaker 11: we'll see. But we've got Ross coming up at 1220 today,
- 1:21:02Speaker 11: brought to you by Northwest Handling Systems. Steve Palazzolo, week
- 1:21:06Speaker 11: two of Steve. We'll talk to him. What does he
- 1:21:08Speaker 11: see with the 49ers and Seahawks matchup? He can't talk
- 1:21:10Speaker 11: enough about that and the rest of the NFL. The
- 1:21:13Speaker 11: Linskys at 130. And, yes, the unofficial start of the weekend.
- 1:21:17Speaker 11: You are four minutes and 15 seconds away now. From
- 1:21:22Speaker 11: sending in your text to Funston at 49451, we'll answer
- 1:21:25Speaker 11: those and take phone calls at 2 o'clock with the
- 1:21:27Speaker 11: unofficial start of the weekend. Thursdays are a ton of fun.
- 1:21:30Speaker 11: Jam-packed show. Let's get after it.
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: All right, let's go. I do miss being a part
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: of that segment. And please tell all of your callers
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: that I still miss them and say hi. And Catherine
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: and Mokotio might have to make an appearance because I
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: have some questions. I mean, she has some questions. It's
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: totally not me. All right, Ian Ferdes coming up next.
