- 4:35are you there? Yes, ma'am, I'm here. How are you
- 4:39all? Hello? Hello? Hello? How are you lady? I am
- 4:44wonderful, wonderful, blessed. How are you? I'm good? I am
- 4:47good. I am so thankful to have you here with us tonight. I
- 4:51am grateful to be on here. Thank you. So listen, first and
- 4:56foremost, I want to thank you for your service for protecting the country as
- 5:01as you have um and continue to do. UM. I tipped my hat
- 5:08to you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you,
- 5:12thank you. I say, let's let's chat a little bit. Um.
- 5:18Mother of four, grandmother of five, let's talk about that for a minute.
- 5:26Because you don't look at day over thirty. Hey. You know,
- 5:30like they say, black don't crack. But you know when you have,
- 5:32you have a good God in your peace in your life. You know right
- 5:35that piece will show all upon your face. So absolutely, UM, what
- 5:45is it like for you being a mother, grandmother in the military. It
- 5:50was hard at first because I leave my kids. Um, I had to
- 5:54separate them, so it was kind of hard for me. But when I
- 5:59went to basically training, it was the push for me because I had to
- 6:03come back home and I had to take care of my kids, you know,
- 6:06because I'm their mother and I don't responsibilities to anyone else. So when
- 6:14I did my training exercises, it was always in my mind, I have
- 6:17to do it for them. I have to do it for them. I
- 6:18have to do it for them and keep on going. Many days I would
- 6:21cry, many days I would try to give up. But then I thought
- 6:26about it, and it's too powerful to have kids and not be able to
- 6:30take care of them. Right right, As a black woman, what is
- 6:36it like? Um? What what challenges did you face in the army that
- 6:45you feel like maybe your counterparts didn't you know, they didn't experience what you
- 6:51may have gone through, or you're a lot of people say the military is
- 6:58for men only, and certain branches treat you like that. But with the
- 7:03Army during my time, they treated us fairly. You know, they were
- 7:09hard on us. But you know sometimes I would I would look at it
- 7:12be like U, L sorry, you a man? Can you get out
- 7:14of my face? But you know my attitude was like, okay, you
- 7:18know I'm here now, I gotta do this, I gotta get this going.
- 7:21Say what you want to say. I don't care. Go go and
- 7:24one and go out the other. Because you know, we always it's always
- 7:29like we have to put the men against the women. Right. We don't
- 7:33have to always do that. We can come together and make it work.
- 7:38And some of my battles, you know, we made it work through a
- 7:42lot of stuff. And some of them was some good pushers because if they
- 7:44can do they made them do some pushups and stuff, and they was looking
- 7:47good. We want to look good too, So it was it was that
- 7:51competition amongst ourselves and not competition where people can see that we were beackering or
- 7:57anything like that. Because as a fee mail we already have it rough,
- 8:01right, you know, so we don't want to put ourselves out there to
- 8:05be like, Okay, you know I can't do that. Yeah, you
- 8:07can't do it. Everything a man can do, we can do besides some
- 8:11personal things, but we can do it. To do it. What would
- 8:16you say to any young girl that wanted to join any branch of the United
- 8:24States UM services? Yeah, be prepared. Um, you're gonna have some
- 8:31hard times where you're gonna miss your family. Um, but go a lot
- 8:37of people say the military is not for everybody. No, the military is
- 8:41not for everybody. I didn't think it was for me, But look at
- 8:43me. I love it. And the military brings something out of you that
- 8:50your parents can't bring out of you. And no matter how stern my parents
- 8:56were with me, the military just did that extra right and made me realize,
- 9:05hey, I had a good at home. Some people don't have a
- 9:07good at home. Some people went to the military because their family can't afford
- 9:11to send them to college and they want to go to college and everything.
- 9:15But to young people, now get away from home and do something with you.
- 9:22The military will get you where you can go, explore the world on
- 9:26someone else's now, not yours, and you can keep your money in your
- 9:30pocket. I'm just being real, you know, right you out the military.
- 9:33We don't make a lot. A lot of people say we do,
- 9:37but I'm just here to tell you know, we gotta work harder for what
- 9:41we make than everybody else do. We have to wake up in the morning
- 9:45where we don't want to wake up. We have to tuck our sheets the
- 9:46way they want us to tuck out sheets, not just leave it undone.
- 9:50Yeah, it's hard, This a hard thing. But guess what it teach
- 9:54you to be so manable? So so and you how can I say?
- 10:00You appreciate life right, appreciate the little things in life right? So join
- 10:07come talk to me. And my daughter is a recruiter, so you know,
- 10:11come get with me. I'll get you in touch with her. Okay,
- 10:16Um, you're a motivational speaker. What made you decide to do that?
- 10:24Because a lot of people were speaking into my life and telling me always
- 10:30what they see in me. And I didn't see what they saw in me,
- 10:33right, they know, Keisha, They said, you just don't know
- 10:35your words, just your words alone, and the way you treat people do
- 10:41it. And when I was like, Okay, I don't want to do
- 10:43it, then I started I was like okay, yeah, I can't do
- 10:46it. And I started getting more and more people to pour into me,
- 10:50and I was like, Okay, I'm gonna keep on. I'm gonna keep
- 10:52on. And that's one door God opened from me. And guess what I'm
- 10:56gonna walk through every door that He has for me. Right, Um,
- 11:03I don't think we have enough motivational speakers, um to just get out here
- 11:11and get out of their own way and just come out here and pour into
- 11:16our youth in a way that they receive, you know what you're trying to
- 11:22convey to them. A lot of um, I see it now. A
- 11:26lot of people, a lot of older people, they don't want to come
- 11:31down to the levels of the younger generation now. Right. We just had
- 11:35our thirtieth class reunion this past weekend. UM, and the togetherness that we
- 11:43had, we had no fighting, we had no fussing. We had no
- 11:48gun play, and we parted all weekend. Wow, we parted all weekend
- 11:52with no disturbance. Right, majority of the times you hear of us getting
- 11:58together, it's always a fight, it's always gun play. That's because a
- 12:05lot of the parents. Now I'm not knocking parents, because I love what
- 12:09some people are doing with their kids. But the reality is reality. If
- 12:13you don't want to get to your children's level and you don't want to talk
- 12:16to them on their level where they can understand you can, you'll be talking
- 12:20until you red and blue in the face. But if you get down to
- 12:22their level and you talk to them and ask them what's really going on,
- 12:28or you get you send them to one of your friends that you know that
- 12:31can talk to them, and let them talk to them, because sometimes the
- 12:35kids don't want to talk to the parents. They want to talk to someone
- 12:37else. You know, my kids, My kids very open with me.
- 12:41They learn how to be open with me, that they say what they gotta
- 12:45say with me, because guess what I want them to tell me and not
- 12:48tell someone in streak because something happen. If something happened out there and someone
- 12:54else knows it, and I don't know what I feel some type of way,
- 12:56right, you know, talk to your kids. Don't yell at your
- 12:58kids, because I used to be that yellow I was. I was that
- 13:01yelling and tell my kids to my mom. You know you used to yell
- 13:03at us, but you don't do it to the grandkids. Totally different generations
- 13:09from grand babies hit different. I can send them grand babies back to their
- 13:13mama, right, I can send him back home. I couldn't send y'all
- 13:16back home. I had to discipline y'all, just like my dad and my
- 13:20mom had to do me. My mom was a soft spoken one. My
- 13:24dad was a stern one. But I love it eating every day of my
- 13:26life now that my dad is the where he is period. Right. And
- 13:31so you're you're a grief counselor as well, Um, what is that like
- 13:37for you? It was hard at first for me because I was grieving myself.
- 13:43But then when I see a lot of people always telling people or you
- 13:46go get over it. You know it's gonna be all right. You know,
- 13:50they don't never tell people take their time, right. You know a
- 13:54lot of people out of here saying, well, you know, you're go
- 13:56weeping man, And do it for a night, but joy coming to morning.
- 13:58Yeah yeah, keep using that scripture if you want to, right,
- 14:01But it's not all the time. It's go come overnight. You have to
- 14:05let people greed in their time. And I was rushed grieving, not by
- 14:13people, but by myself because I felt that I had to hurry up and
- 14:18heal for everybody else around me. I couldn't mourn the way I want them
- 14:24mourn because either my dad would see me cry, or you know, my
- 14:28siblings would see me crying. Didn't they'll cry, or you know, I
- 14:31had to be there for my kids, and that's what always I felt that
- 14:35I had to do. But then when I realized that, I was like
- 14:37no, I was like, I never had time to do that. So
- 14:41it had a wound in me and I couldn't put a bandage over that wound.
- 14:45So I had to open up and I had to, you know,
- 14:46heal myself. So I took my time to heal. Okay, you enjoy
- 14:54riding motorcycles. Tell me more about that. Getting on a motorcycle is peace
- 15:05of mind, Okay, Because when you're you're getting on tools, you have
- 15:11to focus and it's it's like it's you by yourself and that television it is
- 15:16you by yourself, whatever's in your head. You don't get on your bike,
- 15:20man, You don't get all your bike up set. You get all
- 15:22your bike to have peace. Right. When I ride, I have peace
- 15:26out, I observe, but my whole bike go into a whole different zone.
- 15:33I'm a totally different person when I'm going to bike because I have to
- 15:37focus and I have to focus on coming back home to my family. I
- 15:39have to focus on getting into my destination, and I have to be focused
- 15:43to be safe around everybody that's riding with me. Joys all right and um
- 15:54best selling Arthur. Let's talk about these books, ma'am. How many books
- 16:00do you have? Two? Two? Wait? Ten, twelve twelve together?
- 16:10Twelve all together? I have core author? Yes, I think we
- 16:15may have core Arthur UM one or two together together? Yes? Yes?
- 16:22Um? What is it like for you writing? It's how can I say?
- 16:33Um? It's relief? Okay, is peace? It's getting everything that's
- 16:41in here out of here? Right? Make me relax, like they say,
- 16:47relax, relate release. Once I started writing, I can't stop writing,
- 16:52right. It's just something that you have to get off at that time.
- 16:56Put it on paper. It's it's just awesome. It's therapy. Yes,
- 17:03it's therapy. Very journals. You like traveling as well, Um,
- 17:12what is it about the traveling that you like so much? You get to
- 17:18get out your comfort zone and you get to meet people. I'm a very
- 17:22sociable person. A lot of people I have relationships that have been ruined because
- 17:26I'm a very sociable person. But I'm a very sociable person because I live
- 17:30by You only live once, right, and you want to have one life
- 17:33to live and you never know the day, no the hour. So why
- 17:37not enjoy yourself. Don't just work just to be at home or work to
- 17:41pay bills. Enjoy yourself because when you're gone, you can't take that money
- 17:45with you. Somebody else to be enjoying your money. Exactly. So every
- 17:48time the good Lord, you know, allow me to go somewhere, I'm
- 17:52gonna go. Even if it's just to go to Louisiana and go see my
- 17:55dad, I'm gonna go. It's fun. How long have you been away
- 18:00from Louisiana since two thousand and the accent is still thick. It's gonna be
- 18:10thick. You can't take it away. From me. I love it.
- 18:12I love it, I love it. Um, I'm trying to think.
- 18:21Um, you have you're the CEO of moments like this, coaching in counseling.
- 18:30Can you tell me more about that? My company is a coaching and
- 18:36counseling company with a grief for all ages dealing with mental health. Also,
- 18:41UM, I'm open and I'm real. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything,
- 18:48which you're like, you know, you go, I'm not knocking anyone,
- 18:49but you go and they tell you you gotta sit on the coach and talk
- 18:52to the counselor, and all the counselor tell you, uh huh yeah,
- 18:56right, Okay, it's gonna be all right. What kind of medication do
- 19:00you need? Let No, people don't need that. People need people that's
- 19:04gonna be real in their life. You know. People need someone that's gonna
- 19:10talk to them the way they need to be talked to. And if I
- 19:15sit here and I tell you you come to me and you asked me,
- 19:18and you said, well, you know, I have a problem. You
- 19:21know I can't sleep. I ain't gonna get you know, sleeping pills right
- 19:25off the back, because I don't know why you can't sleep, I'm not
- 19:29gonna do that. Oh well, I'm having anxiety attacks. Okay, I'm
- 19:33not gonna give you no medication. So what else? What's your word about?
- 19:36Tell me that, be straight up with me. If you got a
- 19:37curse, if you gotta get it out, if you gotta yelling, scream,
- 19:41I don't care, just get it out. I'm never laxed person.
- 19:45Hey, I've been there. I use my life experiences and I'd have been
- 19:51there. I'd have been through all walks of life and nobody don't know it,
- 19:55but my shoulders not. I don't care. I have some for you,
- 20:00whatever you need. But we need more people to be real, be
- 20:04open. You know a lot of people don't talk to people because we're not
- 20:08open. Right, tell me what you gotta tell me, and I'm gonna
- 20:12tell you what I gotta tell you. Yeah, yeah, I UM.
- 20:18I lost to my biological mom in twenty fourteen, and I started going to
- 20:23counseling, and I felt I always left feeling like I was unheard, and
- 20:30so UM therapy for me is like here, I go to talk to these
- 20:37people who are tuning me out, they're not listening, and then I leave
- 20:42out mad and you know, it's it's good to hear that you're different from
- 20:48them. Like you, you care enough to want to listen and try to
- 20:53help the people get through whatever it is that they're dealing with. Yes,
- 20:59I pay a teen I pay attention to like me, I have, I
- 21:03have to move some type away while I'm talking, right, But it's I
- 21:08pay attention to people's when they're talking. I pay attention to their words.
- 21:14I pay attention to the slurs. I pay attention to if they take a
- 21:17moment, just a pause, that's when you know something is wrong with that
- 21:19person at that moment of what they're saying. If I pause by just saying
- 21:25my mother, that means something happen between you and your mother that you just
- 21:33don't want to get out. And if you don't have if you don't have
- 21:37the sense to do that and just pay attention to them and don't say anything,
- 21:41you don't need to be a therapist. You need to be some meals
- 21:44right. Observance is the best thing. So I'm looking at the comments that
- 21:53are coming through and my husbands, your accent, yo, your dad's partner,
- 22:04My dad's partner. So I want to ask you on behalf of him
- 22:11if you would just say the word baby. I can't believe it. Everybody
- 22:22want to hear everybody say it baby from Louision. I'm sorry. I don't
- 22:29say orange. I say range and people be laughing at me because I say
- 22:33I'm sorry. But I cannot really say orange. I have to say say
- 22:37scrap and I say screeak. I'm sorry. That's just me and that's okay,
- 22:42that is perfectly okay, just talking. This is about the story.
- 22:49Um. So you're in a motorcycle club as well. I'm in an old
- 22:56sports club, yes, okay. Um. I was a part of a
- 23:00social club that was affiliated with a bike club and I stepped away for personal
- 23:07reasons. But for you, um, what is it about that world that
- 23:15you enjoy? Again, I'm very sociable, so I love meeting people.
- 23:22But I also love meeting like minded people. I love people that want to
- 23:27get on their bike and just ride and go different places, you know.
- 23:30I love that. I love people that want to explore. I'm like me.
- 23:34I the track and I can say it. My ex husband brought me
- 23:37to the track and I love the track. Yeah I want you don't add
- 23:41raised, but I love the track. I love the smell, you know,
- 23:45those type of things, you know, things that I wasn't doing,
- 23:48you know before, and I down. It opens you up. It opens
- 23:53that avenue up for you to meet new people and like I say, like
- 23:57minded people. If they call me right now and I'm able to get on
- 24:02my bike, my children would tell you. My son would bag me out
- 24:07the garage and he'd be like taking pictures of it and be like, Mama
- 24:08puts the GBS on and everything they see me. If they see me going
- 24:11fast, Mama stole down right right. You know, they enjoy me,
- 24:18enjoy doing what I do right, So you know I love it. It's
- 24:22my peace. Absolutely. You have a degree in health administration and business administration,
- 24:34what would you say to someone who's going to school for those particular things?
- 24:42Stick with it and maybe hard sometimes the challenges of education period is hard,
- 24:51but stick with it, stick with everything that you set out to do.
- 24:56Education is the key, and knowledge is really the power. Because if
- 24:59you they put us on a this little pedestal weight down here when everybody else
- 25:03is up here, but we could be up there too if we keep going
- 25:07and we get the knowledge that we need to have instead of just sitting here
- 25:12listening to music all day. You know, listen to audiobook. I listen
- 25:18to audiobooks. My cousin, I'm just gonna say it. My cousin Brian,
- 25:21he's in one of the books with us. He sends me and my
- 25:26son different things on audio books all the time, and he sends us things
- 25:30to listen to that you know, we don't We didn't know anything about because
- 25:36we were just doing the bare minimum. But now that I reach out to
- 25:41him and he talked to me every day, he's sending me stuff, and
- 25:45the things that he sent me is not some people may think it's bored,
- 25:49but it's not bored. It is so knowledgeable. I listen to it going
- 25:52to work and it's so knowledgeable. You know, serious sm radio. It's
- 25:59the urban mix on their and everything. Knowledge, knowledge, very much knowledge
- 26:04about what's going on in the world. You know how to do a lot
- 26:07of things with your money, finance, everything, those type of things.
- 26:11I love it. Okay, you're one of six founders of Alpha Delta Omega
- 26:22Military Sorority Incorporated. What can you tell me about the sorority? Yes,
- 26:30perfect sisterhood because we get down and dirty, us six founders. We were
- 26:36in another sorority, but we came together to form our own because we wanted
- 26:41to make a difference. And we are well, I'm gonna tell you,
- 26:48we were more like blood sisters because I can pick up the phone and call
- 26:52one of them and they would come and give me what I need, so,
- 26:56you know, and I can go sleep to any one of the houses,
- 26:57like I'm going to Dallas. I call hey, I'm coming. Okay,
- 27:00you need someone to stay, yeah, and they'd be like, okay,
- 27:03come over. You know those type of things. Like I said,
- 27:06it's a sisterhood. And being that we were all in a military, we
- 27:08know a lot of different things about each other because of the military that we
- 27:14were in. And to bond a sisterhood like that is difficult because you know
- 27:21a lot of females we don't like other females of the gossip, fussing and
- 27:26all this stuff like that. But we put all that aside. When we
- 27:30get together. It's like it's a party. It's importing when we get together
- 27:36and we have fun. We do we hand our business, dude, we
- 27:38gotta do and then we just have fun. We cut up, We enjoy
- 27:42life. Are y'all accepting anybody that wants to be a part of your sorority.
- 27:52Yes we are. We are open right now as accepting applications. As
- 27:56long as you on a really discharge the military, you're good to go.
- 28:03Okay, look, I want to be an honorary member. You can be
- 28:07a supporter. I'm gonna gonna make any support. Okay, I got you,
- 28:11I got you, I got you. Well listen, UM. It
- 28:17has been so much fun talking to you tonight. UM, loving this UM
