- 0:00Speaker 1: Family owned and operated since nineteen seventy two. Stepcheck Service Center,
- 0:04Speaker 1: twenty two hundred longmyre just down from the post office
- 0:07Speaker 1: in College Station.
- 0:10Speaker 2: You know, every time we do one of the CNJ
- 0:12Speaker 2: barbecue commercials, they tell us to come up with something clever,
- 0:14Speaker 2: but honestly, I never know what to say.
- 0:17Speaker 3: How about we're CNJ Barbecue. We make barbecue. It's good.
- 0:21Speaker 3: People like it. That's why we've been here smoking meats
- 0:24Speaker 3: and pill and bellies since the eighties.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Well, I guess that sums it up. So if you're hungry,
- 0:28Speaker 2: come see us.
- 0:29Speaker 3: If you need more convincing, well maybe you just don't
- 0:32Speaker 3: like happiness.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Either way, we'll be here smoking meat like we always do,
- 0:35Speaker 2: serving up happiness on a tray.
- 0:37Speaker 3: CNJ Barbecue. Let's see.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Welcome in, Thanks for being with us on this Tuesday afternoon.
- 0:56Speaker 1: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 1:00Speaker 1: and We've got stuff coming up. We're gonna hear from
- 1:04Speaker 1: Auburn basketball coach Stephen Pearl. They host the Aggies tonight.
- 1:09Speaker 1: We've got our first high school report of twenty twenty six.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We're gonna catch you up on some Dallas Stars hockey
- 1:17Speaker 1: because it's been way too long. We're gonna hear from
- 1:20Speaker 1: Miami football coach Mario Christobal as well before we're finished,
- 1:24Speaker 1: and within the next fifteen or so minutes, we're gonna
- 1:28Speaker 1: be giving away prizes to our Bowl edition Friday's Fearless Winner.
- 1:37Speaker 1: So all of that coming up. So phone the neighbors,
- 1:42Speaker 1: wake the kids. The Aggies are on the planes in Auburn.
- 1:50Speaker 1: That's an eight o'clock start tonight on the SEC network.
- 1:56Speaker 1: A and M eleven and three. Auburn is nine and five.
- 2:03Speaker 1: They have played a more difficult schedule, but they're coming
- 2:07Speaker 1: off a conference loss, bad conference loss at Georgia. Not
- 2:14Speaker 1: that Georgia is not good, but they had the game
- 2:16Speaker 1: won and then didn't. We'll hear from Stephen Pearl coming up,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and a lot of other SEC games. South Carolina, LSU,
- 2:29Speaker 1: Georgia and Florida both of those six o'clock games. And
- 2:32Speaker 1: then besides A and M, Auburn, Texas and Tennessee play
- 2:37Speaker 1: a late game tonight. Then tomorrow night, Missouri's at Kentucky, Oklahoma,
- 2:42Speaker 1: Mississippi State Alabama Vanderbilt, which is probably going to be
- 2:47Speaker 1: the game of the week in the SEC, and then
- 2:50Speaker 1: Arkansas and Ole miss elsewhere unbeaten in second rank Michigan
- 2:56Speaker 1: as at Penn State, Duke is at LOEUI of Texas
- 3:02Speaker 1: Tech and Houston played a night at eight o'clock. That
- 3:06Speaker 1: game is on FS one and on ESPN. I think
- 3:13Speaker 1: is TCU and Kansas all right, So we got that
- 3:20Speaker 1: going on for us. The college football playoff semi finals
- 3:25Speaker 1: begin Thursday night. That's at the Fiesta Bowl. It's Ole
- 3:29Speaker 1: Miss and Miami, and again we will hear from Miami's
- 3:34Speaker 1: head coach Mario Christibaul coming up in the second hour
- 3:37Speaker 1: of the program. LSU administration is still allowing their offensive
- 3:44Speaker 1: coordinator Charlie Weiss and running backs coach Kevin Smith to
- 3:48Speaker 1: continue coaching for the sixth rank Rebels for their semifinal
- 3:53Speaker 1: game on Thursday. Weiss and Smith flew to Baton Rouge
- 4:00Speaker 1: yesterday for recruiting visits, then returned to Oxford last night
- 4:06Speaker 1: to continue preparations. The team flying today to Scottsdale, Arizona.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter telling ESPN today, our
- 4:17Speaker 1: main focus is on winning this game. Charlie meaning Charlie
- 4:21Speaker 1: Weiss has been awesome. Juggling two high profile jobs. He's
- 4:25Speaker 1: been incredible. We have no complaints. Florida got a huge
- 4:30Speaker 1: recruit today. John Sumral, new head coach, has convinced, along
- 4:36Speaker 1: with some cash, I bet running back Jaden Baw to
- 4:39Speaker 1: return to the Gators in twenty twenty six. Baw had
- 4:45Speaker 1: been undecided about the transfer portal. He had eleven and
- 4:50Speaker 1: seventy yards this last year with eight touchdowns averaged over
- 4:54Speaker 1: five yards. A Carrie ran for six hundred and seventy
- 4:58Speaker 1: three yards. His fresh and sees it. Texas red shirt
- 5:03Speaker 1: freshman wide receiver Parker Livingstone is proving that money is
- 5:08Speaker 1: thicker than blood. Arch Manning's roommate in Austin not only
- 5:14Speaker 1: turned the Longhorns down they were offering chump change, but
- 5:18Speaker 1: committed to that school north of the Red River. Yeah
- 5:22Speaker 1: he's going to the enemy for eight hundred thousand dollars.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Livingstone pushed for similar money from Texas, was only offered
- 5:32Speaker 1: half of that, with the potential of negotiating a higher salary,
- 5:37Speaker 1: but concern his number of targets might decrease. In his
- 5:40Speaker 1: third season, he caught five twenty nine passes for five
- 5:45Speaker 1: hundred and sixteen yards and six touchdowns this year in Austin,
- 5:52Speaker 1: the top one hundred most watched US telecasts this year, okay,
- 6:01Speaker 1: in all categories. In all categories, two of them political.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I'm guessing that it was a debate somewhere, maybe election coverage.
- 6:14Speaker 1: When it was eight, the next one sixty seven. There
- 6:17Speaker 1: was one boxing, which I have no idea what that is.
- 6:20Speaker 1: There were two baseball and this doesn't say exactly yet
- 6:24Speaker 1: what the games are in assuming the World Series. There
- 6:27Speaker 1: was a Kentucky Derby that finished ninety sixth. There was
- 6:31Speaker 1: a college basketball that finished eighty seventh. And can I
- 6:38Speaker 1: tell you ESPN, which is paying I don't know roughly
- 6:43Speaker 1: nineteen bazillion dollars to broadcast the NBA. How many NBA
- 6:50Speaker 1: games were there in the top one hundred, zip, zero, nothing, nada.
- 7:00Speaker 1: There were seven college games in the top one hundred.
- 7:06Speaker 1: There were eighty three NFL games, So eighty three of
- 7:12Speaker 1: the top one hundred most watched TV programs this past
- 7:18Speaker 1: year were NFL football games. So where's the power? Where's
- 7:26Speaker 1: the money? I mean, I think we already know that,
- 7:30Speaker 1: don't we. I just I find that very interesting. The
- 7:35Speaker 1: writers are talking yesterday about college playoffs, and they had
- 7:41Speaker 1: good numbers, and again, maybe one or two of those
- 7:50Speaker 1: who were after the first years, so they're not counted
- 7:53Speaker 1: in this past year. You feel me, But man, oh man,
- 8:00Speaker 1: that is total domination, total domination. That's crazy. This is
- 8:10Speaker 1: from Sportico. By the way, Thanksgiving Parade did very well.
- 8:18Speaker 1: It finished thirtieth on the list, so I guess they'll
- 8:22Speaker 1: keep doing that. And one Academy Awards finished seventy second.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I'm surprised. I didn't think that would register. But man,
- 8:39Speaker 1: oh man, is the NFL dominating or what? Okay, shows
- 8:46Speaker 1: what happens when you have lots of money and no scruples. Okay.

- 11:12Speaker 9: here on a Tuesday.
- 11:15Speaker 1: We're glad to have you. Scott Clan Dennon will be
- 11:18Speaker 1: in with us tomorrow, Jared will be filling in on Thursday,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and Ryan will be here Friday, and I will have
- 11:29Speaker 1: my weekly visit with Kurk Bowles, who I have not
- 11:34Speaker 1: heard yet. I'm not attempting to start any kind of
- 11:38Speaker 1: rumor whether he is in the transfer portal or not.
- 11:42Speaker 1: He shocked the world by going to the transfer portal
- 11:46Speaker 1: over a year ago, so and he got a good
- 11:51Speaker 1: contract with that, so maybe he's going a different We'll
- 11:54Speaker 1: ask him, we'll see what happens. We'll visit with Kirk
- 11:58Speaker 1: on Friday and ask him if Sark is going to
- 12:03Speaker 1: get any transfers as well. So all of that going on,
- 12:12Speaker 1: and then next week I am. I am reading a
- 12:20Speaker 1: biography of Dolly Parton right now, and as soon as
- 12:25Speaker 1: I pull up the author's name, by golly, I'm going
- 12:28Speaker 1: to tell you who it is. My promise is to
- 12:37Speaker 1: know the author by the time I talked to her.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Martha Ackman is her name. The book is called Ain't
- 12:45Speaker 1: Nobody's Fool? It's the Life of Dolly, and we will
- 12:49Speaker 1: visit with her either next Monday or next Tuesday on
- 12:54Speaker 1: this show. Can I get the music please? Chet? Right now,
- 13:01Speaker 1: We're going to jump out to the Polaris Fun Center
- 13:03Speaker 1: phone line and visit with the winner of the Bowl
- 13:10Speaker 1: edition of Friday's Fearless Football Forecast contests. Morgan, Is that you?
- 13:19Speaker 5: Yes, I'm here.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, what have you done? I don't know
- 13:29Speaker 1: you made these picks all your own. I know you
- 13:31Speaker 1: did because your dad didn't do as well as you did.
- 13:35Speaker 10: I absolutely did do them on my own.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Okay, I just want to point this out. You picked
- 13:41Speaker 1: Miami to beat Texas A and M, and you picked
- 13:45Speaker 1: Texas to beat Michigan and Morgan. Normally people are booing
- 13:50Speaker 1: and hissing, but hey, you can boo and hiss with
- 13:54Speaker 1: all these prizes in your back pocket because you made
- 13:58Speaker 1: the right picks.
- 14:00Speaker 11: You know, I don't really know how I did that,
- 14:03Speaker 11: you know, I just I've been watching them, Yeah, watching
- 14:06Speaker 11: all the teams.
- 14:07Speaker 1: You've been doing pretty well all year.
- 14:11Speaker 12: Listen, it's that gut instinct. And then you know about
- 14:13Speaker 12: a little secret, but I can't tell it.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Oh maybe sometime you could whisper at my ear?
- 14:20Speaker 13: Would you absolutely tell you?
- 14:23Speaker 6: All right?
- 14:24Speaker 1: So when did you know that you had won this thing?
- 14:27Speaker 14: Actually my dad called me.
- 14:31Speaker 11: I think it was like eleven this morning.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Okay, well, uh, there were other people that went eight
- 14:38Speaker 1: and two, but but your tiebreaker was was the best
- 14:42Speaker 1: with that Miami A and M game. Uh just uh.
- 14:46Speaker 1: For record purposes, you had picked Clemson to beat Penn State,
- 14:51Speaker 1: as did I. You had beat Georgia Tech to beat
- 14:55Speaker 1: b y U, as did I. So you can tell
- 14:58Speaker 1: how I did. Okay, Morgan, here's what we have. I
- 15:03Speaker 1: have a book here. It's going to take you through
- 15:06Speaker 1: the history of Western music, not country Western music called
- 15:13Speaker 1: Romancing the West, with music and human writers in the sky.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I had these guys on a couple of months ago
- 15:19Speaker 1: when they were here for Opus. They're hilarius. I have, Morgan,
- 15:25Speaker 1: I don't know if and I don't know if we've
- 15:27Speaker 1: ever had this conversation. I think now it's the time
- 15:30Speaker 1: to have it. Are you a Rangers or an Astros fan?
- 15:38Speaker 15: I would probably say Astro.
- 15:42Speaker 1: That's really the wrong answer. So I don't know if
- 15:45Speaker 1: I'm going to give you this commemorative Rangers baseball or not.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to think about that. But I have
- 15:55Speaker 1: a homemade apple pie from Readfield Meats for you, and
- 16:00Speaker 1: I have a brunch for two for Casa manyare. If
- 16:06Speaker 1: you haven't been to this, this is pretty exceptional. Okay,
- 16:09Speaker 1: so at least you're gonna eat well. Now, if I
- 16:16Speaker 1: ever decide to get like any Astros memorabilia, which I
- 16:22Speaker 1: doubt that I will, but if sometimes people just send
- 16:24Speaker 1: me stuff, I'll throw that your way.
- 16:27Speaker 12: How's that that sounds absolutely wondering.
- 16:30Speaker 1: The main thing is you will forever be remembered as
- 16:36Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five Bowl Edition winner of Fridday' Spearless
- 16:42Speaker 1: Football Forecast Contest. Morgan, you can come pick up your
- 16:46Speaker 1: prizes or I'll probably just give them to your dad
- 16:48Speaker 1: to give you. How's that Okay, that's perfect, Thank you
- 16:51Speaker 1: so much. Yes, ma'am, congratulations, thank you. That's Morgan Siegel.
- 16:56Speaker 1: She is this year's winner. All right, let's do this.
- 17:02Speaker 1: We are going to hear from the Auburn basketball coach
- 17:08Speaker 1: Steven Pearl.
- 17:11Speaker 16: Yeah s you see open her home.
- 17:13Speaker 17: So another late one, but obviously looking forward to being
- 17:18Speaker 17: back in front of our fans, in front of the jungle.
- 17:22Speaker 17: You know, got another you know, tough opponent in text
- 17:24Speaker 17: A and m coming in a big win for them
- 17:27Speaker 17: on Tuesday or sorry, Saturday night against LSU. Tough LSU squad,
- 17:32Speaker 17: so really dynamic offensively, you know, score a lot of points,
- 17:38Speaker 17: really play with the you know, play the fast tempo,
- 17:42Speaker 17: so really trying to speed you up defensively. I'm glad
- 17:46Speaker 17: we played you know, George obviously before playing them, because
- 17:49Speaker 17: kind of similar in that regard.
- 17:50Speaker 16: They're gonna press for forty minutes.
- 17:52Speaker 17: Uh, text A and M is a little more aggressive
- 17:54Speaker 17: and they're pressing though, They're gonna blitch a little bit
- 17:57Speaker 17: more and you know, try and get you to do
- 17:59Speaker 17: things that you don't typically practice. So yeah, gonna be uh,
- 18:04Speaker 17: you know, past paced game, high tempo game, and you know,
- 18:08Speaker 17: I'm just excited to get back out there, son, Take
- 18:10Speaker 17: any questions.
- 18:14Speaker 18: Soon. Obviously there's a difference between like Queens and Georgia
- 18:17Speaker 18: in terms of talent a little bit.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Did you see stuff maybe on.
- 18:20Speaker 18: A film that y'all did on defense against Queens that
- 18:22Speaker 18: maybe you didn't do as much against Georgia or was
- 18:25Speaker 18: it a step up? I got like, what what?
- 18:27Speaker 6: What did you think about it?
- 18:28Speaker 18: After against Queens?
- 18:33Speaker 17: Yeah, it was you know, we came out, we were
- 18:35Speaker 17: aggressive defensively, and you know, we had two silly fouls.
- 18:39Speaker 17: You know, uh Keishawan reached with the wrong hand and
- 18:42Speaker 17: kind of ran into the guy in the in the
- 18:44Speaker 17: in the corner. Didn't really affect the place, and I
- 18:47Speaker 17: wish they wouldn't have called it. But then Cayden has
- 18:49Speaker 17: a silly foul early and then we had two more
- 18:52Speaker 17: just kind of whatever hand checks, which I thought were
- 18:55Speaker 17: just ridiculous. That in itself kind of disrupted what were
- 19:00Speaker 17: doing defensively because you know, we felt like we had
- 19:03Speaker 17: to you know, back off our pressure a little bit,
- 19:05Speaker 17: and it, you know, kind of set the tone for us,
- 19:08Speaker 17: I thought.
- 19:09Speaker 16: And we didn't do a good job of just adjusting.
- 19:11Speaker 17: And I thought in the Queen's Game, we were way
- 19:13Speaker 17: more loaded in the gaps and we were connected defensively,
- 19:17Speaker 17: and you know, we did a good job of playing
- 19:20Speaker 17: physically defensively, I thought early, you know, with four quick whistles,
- 19:24Speaker 17: it kind of you know, we didn't do a good
- 19:27Speaker 17: job of adjusting to it as the game went on. Obviously,
- 19:30Speaker 17: like you said, like there was a step up in talent,
- 19:32Speaker 17: a step up in speed, a step up in quickness.
- 19:35Speaker 16: You know, they had guards. I could really get biased.
- 19:36Speaker 17: And the rest of the game we were just hugged
- 19:38Speaker 17: up to our men and we were never loaded to
- 19:40Speaker 17: the ball, and we were never in gaps, and we
- 19:41Speaker 17: didn't square up our closeouts, and they just drove us.
- 19:44Speaker 17: You know, we jumped. We jumped at like eleven shot fakes,
- 19:48Speaker 17: and seven of those.
- 19:48Speaker 16: Were on the perimeter.
- 19:49Speaker 17: And all we talked about in film was staying down
- 19:51Speaker 17: in perimeter shot fakes.
- 19:53Speaker 16: Squaring your man.
- 19:53Speaker 17: Up and loaded into the ball, and we just didn't
- 19:55Speaker 17: do a great job of doing any of those things,
- 19:57Speaker 17: and we as a coaching staff did a really poor
- 19:59Speaker 17: job of making the adjustm So you know, we just
- 20:02Speaker 17: weren't as connected and it obviously showed. And you know,
- 20:05Speaker 17: we made one hundred and twenty seven defensive mistakes. If
- 20:09Speaker 17: you're just gonna nitpick it and look through everything, one
- 20:12Speaker 17: hundred and twenty seven defensive mistakes and we're up three
- 20:15Speaker 17: and overtime with three minutes left with the ball. Everyone
- 20:19Speaker 17: cuts three or four of their mistakes out defensively throughout
- 20:21Speaker 17: that game.
- 20:22Speaker 16: You know, we won by ten.
- 20:24Speaker 17: We also missed twelve free throws, so you know, all
- 20:27Speaker 17: that to be said, if we just cut down on
- 20:30Speaker 17: some of our defensive mistakes, you know, make a few
- 20:32Speaker 17: more free throws, obviously, you know you're able to get
- 20:34Speaker 17: a great.
- 20:34Speaker 16: Road win on the road against a ranked team. So
- 20:38Speaker 16: we're right there.
- 20:39Speaker 17: We just got to, you know, obviously, execute a little
- 20:41Speaker 17: bit better and clean a few things up on the
- 20:43Speaker 17: defensive side.
- 20:44Speaker 1: The worst freaking state to live in right now, it.
- 20:49Speaker 16: Makes you want thing to.
- 20:50Speaker 18: Play, is just continuing to show them on the film
- 20:53Speaker 18: here's a mistake, here's a mistake.
- 20:54Speaker 6: We just gotta get ten percent better today.
- 20:57Speaker 18: I mean, how do you teach them or how do
- 20:59Speaker 18: you get to know open their eye?
- 21:01Speaker 7: Have it?
- 21:01Speaker 17: Yeah, we've shown them on film. You know, we've done
- 21:04Speaker 17: it in team settings, and you know this week we
- 21:06Speaker 17: did it more in an individual setting. So you know
- 21:08Speaker 17: what we did is as a group, we watched all
- 21:10Speaker 17: of our good possessions and we had twenty three really
- 21:12Speaker 17: good defensive possessions against Georgia. Problem is that there was
- 21:15Speaker 17: like eighty something possessions in the game, so in the
- 21:17Speaker 17: other sixty possessions, we weren't very good. So what I
- 21:20Speaker 17: did was I broke down every single possession and I
- 21:23Speaker 17: did individual sorders for every player for them to come
- 21:26Speaker 17: in and watch with a coach of what they didn't
- 21:29Speaker 17: do well. So, you know, we've always shown it on film,
- 21:32Speaker 17: and you know, we just kind of changed up our
- 21:34Speaker 17: approach a little bit this week and did it more
- 21:35Speaker 17: in like a one on one setting to see if
- 21:37Speaker 17: that would be a little would help impact the guys
- 21:39Speaker 17: and let them, you know, just kind of register a
- 21:41Speaker 17: little bit more because in one on one settings maybe
- 21:43Speaker 17: maybe it helps as opposed to doing it in front
- 21:45Speaker 17: of the team, so, you know, showed a lot of
- 21:48Speaker 17: good stuff though, you know, showed a lot of good
- 21:50Speaker 17: in front of the team. You know, we we kind
- 21:51Speaker 17: of talked through today some of the things that we've
- 21:53Speaker 17: done this season that you know, could be effective against
- 21:56Speaker 17: an M and you know, it's.
- 21:58Speaker 16: All in there.
- 21:59Speaker 17: It's just a matter of just bringing it out, you know,
- 22:01Speaker 17: and just collectively doing it.
- 22:02Speaker 16: For forty minutes back there.
- 22:06Speaker 19: You can really see Philip growing as a as a
- 22:09Speaker 19: season comes on. Just talk a little bit about, you know,
- 22:11Speaker 19: how what you've seen from him, how important he is
- 22:14Speaker 19: to what you need there inside.
- 22:15Speaker 17: Yeah, he's just been He's been great. You know, he
- 22:20Speaker 17: was He was an unbelievable spark off the bench. Ten points,
- 22:23Speaker 17: ten rebounds, five offensive rebounds.
- 22:26Speaker 13: Uh.
- 22:26Speaker 17: He was our best one on one defender.
- 22:28Speaker 16: Uh.
- 22:29Speaker 17: He was the best one guarding their guards, and he
- 22:31Speaker 17: was the best one guarding their bigs. And you know,
- 22:33Speaker 17: we watch film today of him getting in a stance
- 22:35Speaker 17: and just getting low and wide, and I like challenge
- 22:39Speaker 17: my guards, like, that's what you guys need to look like,
- 22:40Speaker 17: because if he can do it, like, you know, you
- 22:42Speaker 17: guys should be able to too. You know, he just
- 22:45Speaker 17: he he has a different level of pride than most guys,
- 22:49Speaker 17: most kids you're gonna see, and you know, he's a freshman,
- 22:52Speaker 17: you know, and he just does so many things. And
- 22:56Speaker 17: I think part of it is, you know, Coach Bowman
- 22:57Speaker 17: has been doing a great job with Philip, bringing him
- 23:00Speaker 17: in just kind of working with him one on one,
- 23:02Speaker 17: and I think it's helped to grow his confidence, you know,
- 23:05Speaker 17: each and every day. So Philip's been way more present
- 23:09Speaker 17: in the practice gym, just getting extra reps, in extra
- 23:11Speaker 17: working with ib and and it showed so for him,
- 23:15Speaker 17: he's just got to continue to stay consistent in those
- 23:17Speaker 17: things because you know, you saw, like what he showed
- 23:21Speaker 17: against Georgia is what the reason why I recruit him
- 23:23Speaker 17: is because like that's the guy I saw, you know,
- 23:25Speaker 17: playing overseas.
- 23:26Speaker 16: You know for the last couple of years.
- 23:27Speaker 17: It's just that efficiency and that effectiveness and you know,
- 23:30Speaker 17: his ability to just use this speed and quickness to
- 23:33Speaker 17: get to certain spots. And you know, obviously would love
- 23:36Speaker 17: to just have him for a couple of years to
- 23:38Speaker 17: just develop him because you know, he can shoot the
- 23:39Speaker 17: ball too. We just haven't been able to get that
- 23:41Speaker 17: side of the game going for him yet.
- 23:43Speaker 16: So he's just he's got a ton of potential.
- 23:45Speaker 17: And if he can continue to play like that and
- 23:47Speaker 17: give us those minutes off the bench, you know, at
- 23:49Speaker 17: the four or the five, you know, it's just gonna
- 23:51Speaker 17: just it's gonna be great for us. So glad to
- 23:53Speaker 17: see him just continuing to grow.
- 23:56Speaker 18: When you've got a defense and no overall style, this
- 23:58Speaker 18: is as unique as what Texas and him does.
- 24:00Speaker 20: How do you go about preparing for that quick? You know,
- 24:03Speaker 20: Savay and Tuesday and turn around?
- 24:05Speaker 16: Yeah, I mean we uh. You know.
- 24:08Speaker 17: The one positive is we just played against a team
- 24:10Speaker 17: that presses for forty minutes, so we've been able to
- 24:12Speaker 17: go against it. You know, Saint John's pressed for forty minutes.
- 24:17Speaker 17: Memphis pressed a lot of the game, So we've been
- 24:20Speaker 17: lucky enough to go up a team against teams.
- 24:22Speaker 16: That have already done that.
- 24:23Speaker 17: There's a little more unique because they do more things
- 24:26Speaker 17: out of it, and they're way more aggressive, and you know,
- 24:28Speaker 17: I think they're better on ball defenders than most of
- 24:31Speaker 17: the teams that we've played, and they create more turnovers
- 24:33Speaker 17: off of it. So our guys got to be assertive.
- 24:35Speaker 17: They can't be casual, they can't be cool. You know,
- 24:38Speaker 17: you watch film and you'll see games where you know,
- 24:42Speaker 17: they're they're down like sixteen at SMU and then all
- 24:45Speaker 17: of a sudden, they're up four with thirty seconds left
- 24:48Speaker 17: and you know, had a chance to win that game.
- 24:52Speaker 17: You know they you know, they just they can flip
- 24:55Speaker 17: games really quickly with just their pressure and their ability
- 24:58Speaker 17: to just create steals.
- 24:59Speaker 16: And they do a great job of sharing it with
- 25:01Speaker 16: one another.
- 25:01Speaker 17: They I think our fourth in the country and assists
- 25:03Speaker 17: per field goals made, So they just do a great
- 25:06Speaker 17: job of sharing the basketball and they do a great
- 25:08Speaker 17: job of creating offense from their defense. So for us,
- 25:10Speaker 17: it's you know, watching film of you know, what other
- 25:12Speaker 17: teams are doing and what you know what doesn't work,
- 25:15Speaker 17: and you know, just kind of showing them we've gone
- 25:18Speaker 17: against this this year and these are the things that
- 25:20Speaker 17: we have to do in order for us to be
- 25:21Speaker 17: successful against you know, their their their defense.
- 25:26Speaker 18: I would sway, I mean forty two minutes in his
- 25:29Speaker 18: first SEC game, would you kind of make of his performance?
- 25:32Speaker 18: And I didn't score, but he was out there a
- 25:34Speaker 18: lot for you all defensively, pretty good force on the
- 25:36Speaker 18: boards as well.
- 25:38Speaker 17: Yeah, I have high expectations for Sebastian, you know, and
- 25:42Speaker 17: in forty one minutes.
- 25:43Speaker 16: You know, he's got to be he's got to.
- 25:45Speaker 17: Be more impactful when he's in there in the game.
- 25:48Speaker 16: Now here here, Here's what. Like, we didn't talk about
- 25:50Speaker 16: this after the game.
- 25:51Speaker 17: Elijah was out of the game for like twelve minutes
- 25:54Speaker 17: because there was a moving screen that the other end
- 25:56Speaker 17: with a guy basically just like knees his his thigh
- 25:59Speaker 17: and he had like a thigh contusion and he like
- 26:02Speaker 17: kind of.
- 26:02Speaker 16: Locked up on him.
- 26:03Speaker 17: So Sebastian probably played five to seven too many minutes
- 26:07Speaker 17: and it, you know, it led to some fatigue late
- 26:10Speaker 17: in the game. And Sebastian is best when he is
- 26:13Speaker 17: just fresh and he's flying around and doing all the
- 26:16Speaker 17: things that he can do to affect the game, you know,
- 26:18Speaker 17: on both ends of the floor. And I think, you know,
- 26:20Speaker 17: I played him too many minutes because one it was
- 26:22Speaker 17: kind of out of necessity just because of foul trouble.
- 26:26Speaker 16: And obviously I just trust.
- 26:27Speaker 17: Sebastian when he's out there to do the things that
- 26:29Speaker 17: he needs to do in order for us to win.
- 26:31Speaker 17: But I need him to be more assertive and more aggressive,
- 26:33Speaker 17: and I need him to you know, obviously do a
- 26:36Speaker 17: better job of just finishing around the rim against the
- 26:38Speaker 17: better teams on our schedule, because I know he's capable
- 26:40Speaker 17: of doing so. And you know, this will be a
- 26:43Speaker 17: good game for him because the ball is going to
- 26:45Speaker 17: be in his hands against the press, and he does
- 26:47Speaker 17: a really good job of bringing the ball up the floor.
- 26:49Speaker 17: You know, and you've kind of seen it how aggressive
- 26:50Speaker 17: he can be in the pace that he plays with
- 26:52Speaker 17: he plays under control. So I'm excited for him in
- 26:55Speaker 17: this game because you know, I think it's something that
- 26:57Speaker 17: could kind of play to his strengths a little bit more.
- 26:58Speaker 17: But defensively, you know, it was the first time, and
- 27:02Speaker 17: I think it was part part of it was because
- 27:03Speaker 17: the rest of the team was doing it where he
- 27:05Speaker 17: wasn't out there making as many plays as.
- 27:06Speaker 16: He typically does. He was kind of hugged up to
- 27:08Speaker 16: his man on.
- 27:08Speaker 17: The corner, and you know, he's he's more accountable than
- 27:11Speaker 17: anybody in those situations. So while he played forty one
- 27:14Speaker 17: minutes and you know he hadn't I mean when he
- 27:16Speaker 17: had like seven rebounds, like he did a great job
- 27:18Speaker 17: on the boards, Like I need him to be more
- 27:21Speaker 17: aggressive getting to the rim and finishing through contact.
- 27:23Speaker 16: I need him to.
- 27:24Speaker 17: I need him to step out and shoot a pick
- 27:26Speaker 17: and pop three like I need him, you know, to do.
- 27:28Speaker 16: The things that I know he's really good at.
- 27:29Speaker 17: And we got to do a better job of getting
- 27:30Speaker 17: the ball in his hands in certain situations because he's
- 27:32Speaker 17: such a good passer. But he's got a you know,
- 27:35Speaker 17: when he's out there, you know, he's got to just
- 27:38Speaker 17: continue to look to be effective in the ways that
- 27:40Speaker 17: we know he's capable.
- 27:41Speaker 16: And part of it was just, you know.
- 27:42Speaker 17: Elijah, we should If Elijah hadn't gotten hurt, Elija would
- 27:45Speaker 17: have probably played thirty and then Sebastian would have only
- 27:47Speaker 17: had to play like thirty four and he would have
- 27:49Speaker 17: been a little more fresh out there. So that was
- 27:52Speaker 17: just kind of how the game kind of flowed. But
- 27:55Speaker 17: I mean, he's gonna play a lot of minutes for
- 27:56Speaker 17: us because he's effective.
- 27:59Speaker 16: You know.
- 27:59Speaker 17: Part of it was, you know, I think in some
- 28:02Speaker 17: of our high major games recently, he's gotten in foul
- 28:04Speaker 17: trouble early in the games, and I think he was
- 28:06Speaker 17: trying not to do that. He's a smart enough player
- 28:08Speaker 17: that would play aggressively without failing, and that's what I
- 28:10Speaker 17: just continue to tell him is like, you know, you
- 28:12Speaker 17: can still be aggressive and without failing.
- 28:14Speaker 16: You know what that looks like.
- 28:15Speaker 17: So it's the thing that just comes with experience. You know,
- 28:17Speaker 17: we got three or four freshmen out there right now,
- 28:19Speaker 17: and you know they're just continuing to learn and coaches.
- 28:24Speaker 21: Seeing him talking about the new business six. How much
- 28:27Speaker 21: is effort?
- 28:28Speaker 18: How much is dolling the game plan? Like what's the
- 28:32Speaker 18: expectation on the improvement that you want to see from
- 28:35Speaker 18: game to game?
- 28:36Speaker 1: Like what are you like, Hey, that's an effort thing,
- 28:38Speaker 1: or hey that's that's just something that maybe you guys
- 28:40Speaker 1: have got adjust to.
- 28:41Speaker 21: It takes time, Like how do you sort of view
- 28:43Speaker 21: what you want to see? Then that's time out.
- 28:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 17: I mean if you sat there and just digested or
- 28:48Speaker 17: just picked apart everything, you would have way too much
- 28:51Speaker 17: to try and fix, you know. So you got to
- 28:54Speaker 17: you got to simplify and find one or two things
- 28:56Speaker 17: that we got to get better at. And I think
- 28:58Speaker 17: the two main things is are our closeouts on the
- 29:00Speaker 17: ball and our positioning off the ball. Our closeouts were
- 29:04Speaker 17: really bad against Georgia. We were way too opened up
- 29:08Speaker 17: and we had we offered zero help off the ball.
- 29:11Speaker 17: Everyone was just hugged up to their men off the ball.
- 29:13Speaker 17: So those are like the two biggest things I need
- 29:14Speaker 17: to see improvement on this week is just squaring up
- 29:16Speaker 17: our closeouts more and just being more loaded to the
- 29:19Speaker 17: ball and gaps. And if we can do those things,
- 29:21Speaker 17: those two things, a lot of our mistakes, you know,
- 29:23Speaker 17: would I think be fixed. We don't have great rim protection.
- 29:26Speaker 17: You know, our best our best room protector is are
- 29:28Speaker 17: six seven to five man Philip because he rotates over
- 29:31Speaker 17: and he gets vertical every single time. And Georgia made,
- 29:35Speaker 17: like I told our guys like they made ten like
- 29:38Speaker 17: fu shots, Like when they make a shot, I'm like you, like,
- 29:42Speaker 17: I can't believe he just made that, Like that's gonna happen.
- 29:46Speaker 17: We got to limit the freaking layups and we just
- 29:49Speaker 17: we let them have six or seven uncontested layups. Like
- 29:52Speaker 17: we need collisions at the rim, and the way to
- 29:55Speaker 17: avoid those collisions is squaring up your stance on your
- 29:58Speaker 17: closeouts and then being in the gap to offer a
- 30:00Speaker 17: little bit more help. And if we do those two things,
- 30:02Speaker 17: like I think a lot of the things that we're
- 30:05Speaker 17: looking at on film, you obviously can get fixed. But
- 30:08Speaker 17: to answer your question, even more specifically, like paying more
- 30:12Speaker 17: attention to what we're showing you in film is really important.
- 30:18Speaker 17: You know, just a quick example, like perimeter shot fix.
- 30:22Speaker 17: They do it all the time, and we jumped at
- 30:24Speaker 17: like ten or eleven of them.
- 30:26Speaker 16: Got to stop doing that.
- 30:28Speaker 17: Like every time you jump at a perimeter shot fake
- 30:30Speaker 17: against a team that would rather shoot two's, they're going
- 30:32Speaker 17: to have the advantage when they drive past you and
- 30:34Speaker 17: like you know, to hide.
- 30:35Speaker 16: Jumped at like four or five of them.
- 30:37Speaker 17: Ko jumped at a couple Elijah, like our guards have
- 30:39Speaker 17: got to stay down on their feet and you know
- 30:41Speaker 17: in those situations. So I think it's just having a
- 30:43Speaker 17: little more attention to detail on some of the things
- 30:46Speaker 17: that we're we're talking about in the scout. We as
- 30:47Speaker 17: coaches got to simplify it a little bit more. I
- 30:49Speaker 17: think we maybe showing them a little bit too much
- 30:51Speaker 17: right now with ten new guys. It's hard because we've
- 30:54Speaker 17: been doing things a certain way for a long time
- 30:56Speaker 17: and it's been effective, but we've also had retention on.
- 30:58Speaker 16: A lot of these teams.
- 30:59Speaker 17: We don't have that with this group, so you know,
- 31:01Speaker 17: we gotta we got to make adjustments to.
- 31:03Speaker 16: The staff, and I think we're what we've done so
- 31:04Speaker 16: this week, right yea.
- 31:07Speaker 18: With Texas A and M the way they do their
- 31:09Speaker 18: offense is completely a different team in the last year
- 31:11Speaker 18: and just with Bucky style and just kind of what
- 31:13Speaker 18: they're doing. What stands out to you about them, like
- 31:16Speaker 18: you said, very similar to Georgia and how they like
- 31:17Speaker 18: to play.
- 31:18Speaker 16: Fast and attacks.
- 31:20Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean first shot they like is going up,
- 31:22Speaker 17: So you gotta do an unbelievable job and your transition defense,
- 31:25Speaker 17: getting back and just getting bodies on bodies. You can't
- 31:27Speaker 17: worry about your matchups and transition because they do such
- 31:30Speaker 17: a great job of advance passing it. And then those guys,
- 31:33Speaker 17: you know, Griffin will just pull it from three. Domingos,
- 31:36Speaker 17: We'll just pull it from three. Pop Isaacs will just
- 31:39Speaker 17: pull it from three. And then they got a couple
- 31:41Speaker 17: of water bugs that just drive it downhill and can
- 31:43Speaker 17: get down to their right hands really really really quick.
- 31:46Speaker 17: So we got to do a really good job of
- 31:48Speaker 17: you know, building a wall on on Mark's Hill and
- 31:51Speaker 17: you know on Jakari Lane and Josh Holloway, all those
- 31:54Speaker 17: guys are really fast, dynamic downhill guards and they can
- 31:57Speaker 17: you know, make threes and they can make two so
- 32:01Speaker 17: we just got to get back in transition and you know,
- 32:04Speaker 17: get bodies on bodies, loads the ball and you know,
- 32:08Speaker 17: kind of guard them from there and you just can't
- 32:09Speaker 17: be surprised when a shot goes up. They they are
- 32:12Speaker 17: a much better offensive rebounding team than I think with
- 32:14Speaker 17: the numbers show. They do a really good job, you know,
- 32:16Speaker 17: because they shoot some threes. They do a great job
- 32:18Speaker 17: of getting long shots along rebounds. So gotta get back
- 32:21Speaker 17: in transition and we gotta, we gotta, you know, contest shots.
- 32:24Speaker 16: And we got a box out.
- 32:30Speaker 1: That's Steven pearl Son of Bruce Tough Shoes to fill tonight.

- 38:11Speaker 1: But now for something completely different, The Dallas Stars bit
- 38:16Speaker 1: of a spiral. They've lost three overtime games in a row.
- 38:20Speaker 1: They've gotten points, but they've lost not playing their best hockey.
- 38:25Speaker 1: They haven't lost to the greatest teams. They're playing a
- 38:28Speaker 1: good one tonight in Carolina. Radik Foxa just received news
- 38:33Speaker 1: that he has been selected to the Czech Olympic team.
- 38:38Speaker 1: This is a big deal for all these players to
- 38:41Speaker 1: be playing Olympic hockey again. They're willing to compress the
- 38:46Speaker 1: regular season NHL schedule in order to do it, and
- 38:52Speaker 1: it will be very entertaining. Here is Radik foxa earlier
- 38:57Speaker 1: today talking about being elected to the Czech team at
- 39:01Speaker 1: getting ready for Carolina this evening with the Stars.
- 39:11Speaker 26: Mhm, you've probably had an idea, but what is it
- 39:23Speaker 26: like to be named for a team that's going to
- 39:25Speaker 26: play in the Olympic's kind of.
- 39:26Speaker 1: A big deal.
- 39:27Speaker 11: Yeah, it's a big deal for for for the Czech
- 39:30Speaker 11: country at all.
- 39:30Speaker 6: Uh, it's probably for sure.
- 39:33Speaker 11: Because tournament of UH of the player of hockey, players
- 39:37Speaker 11: who could.
- 39:38Speaker 6: Play like UH, community to it. I got to sell there.
- 39:45Speaker 26: I was gonna say, that's the World Junior everything here.
- 39:48Speaker 26: Obviously in the US we're gonna talk to US, Canada, US,
- 39:51Speaker 26: But the World Junior shows you there are a lot
- 39:53Speaker 26: of other teams that can.
- 39:54Speaker 6: Win the gold medals.
- 39:56Speaker 11: Yeah, we have good also, good players in the in
- 40:00Speaker 11: checker Republic still, and I think we can compete with
- 40:03Speaker 11: the best teams, with any team with top teams in
- 40:07Speaker 11: the with you as kind of, I think we can compete.
- 40:09Speaker 11: And but for sure we had to perform us as
- 40:15Speaker 11: as the best as possible.
- 40:17Speaker 6: Do you get to bring your family as we.
- 40:19Speaker 26: Were talking about, and that seems like that would be
- 40:21Speaker 26: the coolest part.
- 40:23Speaker 11: Yeah, for sure we want to bring. For sure, my
- 40:26Speaker 11: wife and my son will go.
- 40:28Speaker 6: For sure. I don't know if my daughter because she's at.
- 40:30Speaker 11: She's sixteen sixteen months, she's kind of tough age, you know,
- 40:33Speaker 11: she she would have no idea, so uh yeah, but uh,
- 40:37Speaker 11: probably my mom dies and I don't know who else,
- 40:41Speaker 11: but uh, for sure some family will be will be there.
- 40:45Speaker 26: And then what about the streak? Right now, you guys
- 40:48Speaker 26: are on it's not I mean it's not technically, I
- 40:51Speaker 26: guess it is losing streak when you guys get points
- 40:53Speaker 26: at a different games. What do you guys need to
- 40:55Speaker 26: do is just to step up the play.
- 40:57Speaker 11: At Uh yeah, I feel like we last five games
- 41:02Speaker 11: in a row, but three of them were in overtime,
- 41:05Speaker 11: and uh except the Baffall game, everything was pretty close,
- 41:09Speaker 11: you know, so uh uh we need to just uh
- 41:13Speaker 11: give the one extra percent, you know, and uh play
- 41:16Speaker 11: how we played before the break, and uh uh we
- 41:21Speaker 11: need to just get the first win and then jump
- 41:23Speaker 11: jump from there.
- 41:23Speaker 6: Having uh we're in good spot.
- 41:25Speaker 11: So I think we should have still lots of confidence
- 41:27Speaker 11: and uh, play our game what we played the whole
- 41:30Speaker 11: season strategically.
- 41:32Speaker 6: Is this a different challenge.
- 41:33Speaker 26: They are the best possession team, they have the most.
- 41:36Speaker 6: Shots on goal.
- 41:37Speaker 26: They I mean, they're different than what you guys.
- 41:39Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, it's in Carolina. It's probably one of the
- 41:43Speaker 11: toughest building to play and uh there was played so hard.
- 41:48Speaker 11: You know, you don't have much space anywhere, and uh, yeah,
- 41:52Speaker 11: we expect to kind of playoff type of game.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Michael Randon will be with the finish team. He was
- 42:00Speaker 1: with Carolina a year ago, but not for long before
- 42:04Speaker 1: he got traded to Dallas right before the playoffs. Uh,
- 42:10Speaker 1: and I know he's been asked about it before. He's
- 42:12Speaker 1: probably tired of talking about it. But back in Carolina,
- 42:16Speaker 1: you know he is going to be asked about it.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Here is the Stars, Miko Rantnet.
- 42:22Speaker 15: You tonight, Yeah, for sure, I understand you all the
- 42:26Speaker 15: nature of it, and uh, it's a competitive sport and
- 42:31Speaker 15: fans are really good here in Carolina. They're very they
- 42:34Speaker 15: loved the team and it's really good to see you know,
- 42:37Speaker 15: they're they're allowed and nothing but good things to say
- 42:40Speaker 15: about the whole organization and the fans and but yeah,
- 42:45Speaker 15: let's see how it is.
- 42:46Speaker 12: Sebastian said that you all have been in contact about
- 42:49Speaker 12: the Olympics and stuff, and that everything that happened hasn't
- 42:52Speaker 12: impacted your relationship with him or anything.
- 42:54Speaker 15: No, no, it's uh, you know, as he understands it
- 42:57Speaker 15: and and I do, and and we're still good friends.
- 43:01Speaker 6: You know, we had dinner last night.
- 43:02Speaker 15: You know, he's a great friend of mine and excited
- 43:05Speaker 15: to play with him in the Olympic level. He's obviously
- 43:08Speaker 15: phenomenal player. So so it's a big, big part of
- 43:12Speaker 15: our our finish.
- 43:13Speaker 12: Team and fun to get a challenge against.
- 43:15Speaker 16: You know, you guys are one of the best teams
- 43:17Speaker 16: in the league.
- 43:17Speaker 12: They're at the top of the Eastern Conference. A good
- 43:19Speaker 12: measuring stick.
- 43:20Speaker 6: Game, really yeah, really good. Always. I remember playing here.
- 43:24Speaker 15: It's tough, you know, it's tough, tough to win here,
- 43:27Speaker 15: you know, and and you know, we we were in
- 43:31Speaker 15: the skid a little bit, you know, five games in
- 43:32Speaker 15: a row, so we got to.
- 43:34Speaker 6: This is the game to play simple. You know, we
- 43:36Speaker 6: can't give too many opportunities.
- 43:37Speaker 15: They have a lot of good players who can score,
- 43:39Speaker 15: so so we gotta be one ofor tos right from
- 43:42Speaker 15: the start.
- 43:43Speaker 6: What do you remember most about your time?
- 43:46Speaker 15: Just how nice everybody wasn't and like I said, organization,
- 43:50Speaker 15: everybody who works there and all the players, like the fans,
- 43:54Speaker 15: you know, everybody was so welcoming and nothing but good things.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Today, maybe will be very welcoming to nag you know.
- 44:01Speaker 15: Yeah, I'm expecting you know, it's uh opponent, am opponent now,
- 44:04Speaker 15: So so I understand totally.
- 44:07Speaker 12: I saw your comments the other day the other it
- 44:09Speaker 12: was yesterday maybe about the timing of everything. Kind of
- 44:12Speaker 12: the shock of everything was a big part of why
- 44:15Speaker 12: things maybe didn't work out here in Raley.
- 44:18Speaker 15: Yeah, I think timing and you know, deadline was closing
- 44:22Speaker 15: in and honestly they wanted to, you know, get the
- 44:28Speaker 15: extension before the deadline. And I understand it totally. Uh yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 15: timing wasn't you know. And then we had four nations.
- 44:35Speaker 15: I was gone for two weeks and just kind of
- 44:39Speaker 15: run out of time too a little bit. So so
- 44:41Speaker 15: it wasn't It was not easy for me and I
- 44:44Speaker 15: don't think for anybody else. So it was it was tough,
- 44:47Speaker 15: tough decisions and not easy.
- 44:49Speaker 1: All right, uh Raddick Fox and Miko rantom Stars in
