- 0:05Speaker 1: Gottaway.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Hey, it's Draftneck. Mark joining us right now, one of
- 0:10Speaker 2: the star hosts of the metst Up Show and podcast.
- 0:13Speaker 2: You can catch it YouTube or wherever you get your pods.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Also can catch plenty of content from Mark all over
- 0:19Speaker 2: YouTube and everywhere else. Mark, Happy birthday week to you
- 0:22Speaker 2: and what's your happiness meter? After the past twenty four
- 0:25Speaker 2: hours have transpired?
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's been a crazy one shout out
- 0:29Speaker 3: turn in thirty finally hit that milestone.
- 0:31Speaker 4: But losing Kyle Tucker. I was like, great, love that
- 0:35Speaker 4: great way to end the birthday.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Wake up this morning, getting ready to talk about how
- 0:38Speaker 3: Kyle Tucker hurt, and then Boba, Schet's a met out
- 0:41Speaker 3: of absolutely nowhere.
- 0:42Speaker 4: I didn't see that one coming, dude.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Incredible.
- 0:45Speaker 2: So I have been listening to almost every episode all
- 0:49Speaker 2: off season long, and I remember, I think it was
- 0:50Speaker 2: the previous episode. I know you guys did an emergency
- 0:52Speaker 2: episode today, but the previous one was talking about the
- 0:55Speaker 2: Tucker interest for the Mets, and you and James Shana
- 0:58Speaker 2: were kind of split, right, you were trying to be
- 1:00Speaker 2: a little more optimistic. James was like, nah, this I
- 1:04Speaker 2: think he said, like this as Dodgers written all over it,
- 1:06Speaker 2: and he nailed it. So take us through psychology there
- 1:09Speaker 2: of why you guys thought that would go down and
- 1:11Speaker 2: then how out of left field the Bobashett factor felt.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah, with Kyle Tucker, I mean, I think I definitely
- 1:19Speaker 3: I'm a METS homer.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I'm a little.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Biased, and I just I wanted to believe that Kyle
- 1:23Speaker 3: Tucker was going to be a Met. He's just one
- 1:25Speaker 3: of the twenty best hitters I think on the planet
- 1:27Speaker 3: at the absolute worst. And the contract offer was so
- 1:30Speaker 3: aggressive that I thought, again, similarly, SHOWE Steve Cohen.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Where there's smoke, there's fire.
- 1:34Speaker 3: But obviously he ended up picking the Dodgers, and I
- 1:36Speaker 3: think we all kind of knew it was going to
- 1:38Speaker 3: be the Dodgers. James just he's got to keep me
- 1:40Speaker 3: level sometimes, which is why he had to check me
- 1:42Speaker 3: there and make sure that everybody knows. We still thought
- 1:44Speaker 3: it was gonna be them, So that one hurt. But
- 1:46Speaker 3: he would have been a great fit. So the idea
- 1:49Speaker 3: that like the Blue Jays were coming in, I never
- 1:51Speaker 3: really fully bought that Tucker was going to be there.
- 1:53Speaker 3: It did seem like it was for the Dodgers, that
- 1:55Speaker 3: he kind of was at least pushing that the Mets
- 1:57Speaker 3: were giving these offers, and then for Bashet this morning,
- 2:01Speaker 3: I mean, that's just it's it's a lot of money.
- 2:03Speaker 3: We've seen a crazy amount of money the last twelve
- 2:06Speaker 3: to eighteen hours on the free agent market, between Tucker
- 2:09Speaker 3: getting nearly sixty million a year, I know, there's Deferman,
- 2:12Speaker 3: then Bobaschett going forty mili plus a year. I didn't
- 2:16Speaker 3: expect him to get forty million a year, and I
- 2:18Speaker 3: definitely didn't expect it with the Mets.
- 2:19Speaker 4: But at the same time, I'm happy.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I'm happy, Like the Mets desperately needed a right handed
- 2:24Speaker 3: bat in this lineup. They're clearly making a choice that
- 2:26Speaker 3: they want to get new people in, new players, putting
- 2:29Speaker 3: them in different positions. A little bit worried about if
- 2:32Speaker 3: he plays third base, how he looks there, but the
- 2:34Speaker 3: bat's legit and adding that to the Mets lineup, that's
- 2:37Speaker 3: never a bad thing.
- 2:39Speaker 5: I asked Ken Rosenthal about an hour and a half ago,
- 2:41Speaker 5: the same question. Is the Mets lineup better today than
- 2:47Speaker 5: it was if they brought the exact same guys who
- 2:49Speaker 5: they had last year at the end of the year.
- 2:52Speaker 4: No, I don't think it is.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I still think I would have preferred Pete A Lonzo
- 2:55Speaker 3: over Bobaschett, and I think that's something that Mets fans
- 2:57Speaker 3: are probably gonna struggle with in how you think about
- 3:00Speaker 3: this team moving forward. The lineup offensively not better. I
- 3:04Speaker 3: think defensively this team is better. I think that was
- 3:05Speaker 3: one of their issues last year. I also think that
- 3:08Speaker 3: we're gonna see guys step up this year, like I
- 3:10Speaker 3: think Francisca Abraz at the end of the year showed
- 3:12Speaker 3: that that bad is what we thought it could be
- 3:14Speaker 3: and that will help this line up a lot. But
- 3:16Speaker 3: I do would have preferred Pete A Lonzo over Bo.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I think losing Nimo hurt. We still don't have two outfielders,
- 3:22Speaker 3: like I trust Carson benj whenever he is ready, but
- 3:25Speaker 3: you don't want to put that kind of pressure on
- 3:27Speaker 3: the kid coming into opening Day.
- 3:28Speaker 4: So yeah, I think.
- 3:29Speaker 3: They're still crazy enough to say a lot of holes
- 3:32Speaker 3: in this team. But we're definitely better off now with
- 3:34Speaker 3: Bobashit than we were without Mark.
- 3:38Speaker 6: What about the other two guys that might be pushed
- 3:41Speaker 6: out of the play in third base? We had twenty
- 3:43Speaker 6: twenty four, it was Van Doo's's job and twenty twenty
- 3:45Speaker 6: five it was Beaty's job. And now we have both
- 3:47Speaker 6: of those guys still probably only can play third base,
- 3:49Speaker 6: and now there's a third base. So what happens with
- 3:51Speaker 6: those two guys do we conceivably see because hitting is
- 3:55Speaker 6: a problem, do you see any world and where one
- 3:58Speaker 6: or both because we know Endos can play first as
- 4:01Speaker 6: well in badh and he's got a pretty good bat.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Like where those guys get moved and maybe there's some
- 4:07Speaker 6: big league ready pitching out there because pitching is a problem.
- 4:10Speaker 6: What do you see happening with those two guys?
- 4:12Speaker 3: Yeah, So I think to talk about Batty first. I
- 4:15Speaker 3: think Ken said in one of his tweets or an
- 4:17Speaker 3: article recently how Baty they might see playing a little
- 4:20Speaker 3: bit first as well as his name was very active
- 4:22Speaker 3: on the trade market. So I think that if Baty
- 4:24Speaker 3: were to be moved, it's going to be for a
- 4:26Speaker 3: starting pitcher. I don't know who that would be, but
- 4:28Speaker 3: I think with the control and what he showed in
- 4:29Speaker 3: the second half of the season, Baty's definitely got some
- 4:31Speaker 3: value right now. But also that's why I think the
- 4:33Speaker 3: Mets would want to keep him in the fact that
- 4:35Speaker 3: he can play third, he can play second, maybe he
- 4:37Speaker 3: can play a little first. And I know this is
- 4:39Speaker 3: a pipe dream, but in the past he played even
- 4:41Speaker 3: left field for a couple innings I think for the Mets,
- 4:43Speaker 3: and they tried that out a few spring trainings to go.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Maybe he takes over the Jeff McNeil role where he's
- 4:48Speaker 3: more of a super utility man. But I do think
- 4:50Speaker 3: that if the right starting pitcher is available and Brett
- 4:53Speaker 3: Batty has to be on the trade to get that guy,
- 4:56Speaker 3: seems like the Mets might be willing to do so.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Now for Vientos, I'm not one hundred percent sure what
- 5:00Speaker 3: they do with him. He's kind of just a first
- 5:02Speaker 3: basement right now, more of a DH And while we
- 5:05Speaker 3: saw the Heights in twenty twenty four, where he really
- 5:07Speaker 3: was a huge reason why that team got out a run,
- 5:09Speaker 3: twenty twenty five was the complete opposite. He just wasn't
- 5:11Speaker 3: the same hitter that we saw and expected. I don't
- 5:14Speaker 3: think that the Mets should lose faith in Viento's but
- 5:17Speaker 3: with the way that roster crunches work, with the way
- 5:19Speaker 3: that options work, with the limited positional flexibility that vent has,
- 5:23Speaker 3: Viento's has. I think it's tough to kind of imagine
- 5:26Speaker 3: where he fits into this team, especially now with the
- 5:29Speaker 3: addition of Bo. So maybe that's a trade, maybe that's
- 5:32Speaker 3: trying to win a job out of spring training. But
- 5:34Speaker 3: I think the Mets still have a ton of moves
- 5:36Speaker 3: to make and those guys will definitely be a part
- 5:37Speaker 3: of them.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Two words I asked you about the lineup, but two
- 5:40Speaker 5: words we keep hearing from the Mets, whether it's David
- 5:43Speaker 5: Sterns or Nimo as he went out the door, run prevention.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Are you at the point where you're like, I'm fine
- 5:52Speaker 5: with it, I'm able to sit with my hands just folded,
- 5:56Speaker 5: Or are you're gonna watch every game thinking about run
- 5:59Speaker 5: prevention like I don't know what's gonna happen.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Like, I think it would be crazy for any
- 6:05Speaker 3: Mets fans to think that, like Bobachhet's gonna come in
- 6:08Speaker 3: and be a goal glove third basement. So then it
- 6:10Speaker 3: comes to the conversation of how bad was Pete a
- 6:12Speaker 3: Lonzo's defense firsut, what will Bobaschett's defense look like at third?
- 6:16Speaker 3: And then how different will their bat be. That's gonna
- 6:18Speaker 3: be the big thing that I think every met fan
- 6:20Speaker 3: goes back and forth with this year. I think they
- 6:23Speaker 3: did improve defensively, like Simon in that second base is
- 6:25Speaker 3: a huge, huge boost, and I think they still are
- 6:27Speaker 3: going to address the outfield defense at some point. But yeah,
- 6:30Speaker 3: hearing run prevention being as prominent of like talking point
- 6:34Speaker 3: for David Setns this offseason, and then seeing some of
- 6:37Speaker 3: the moves like Horey Polanco probably can play first base,
- 6:39Speaker 3: but he's never really done it, so defense is still
- 6:42Speaker 3: a question mark there. Bobachett's never played a professional inning,
- 6:46Speaker 3: I think at third base, not even in the minor leagues.
- 6:48Speaker 3: That's still a question marked there. That's that's one of
- 6:50Speaker 3: those where Krats, I think you're right. I might be
- 6:51Speaker 3: crossing my fingers a little bit more this year of like,
- 6:54Speaker 3: I hope these guys work out these positions the bats, though,
- 6:56Speaker 3: I trust it's the gloves now.
- 6:59Speaker 5: One of the things that Scott said was Stevie Cohen
- 7:02Speaker 5: woke up this morning and was like, crap, I didn't
- 7:04Speaker 5: get Tucker. I'm going after Bo. My argument was, I
- 7:08Speaker 5: don't think he slept last night. Do you think Stevie
- 7:11Speaker 5: Cohen the way that he came into New York and
- 7:15Speaker 5: is like, this is gonna be a winning team. I
- 7:17Speaker 5: want to become the team of New York City. I
- 7:20Speaker 5: want to be this like all the things that he said,
- 7:24Speaker 5: do you think he is enjoying the way it is going?
- 7:28Speaker 5: Based on the splash he made last year with Juan
- 7:31Speaker 5: Soto and the fact that he trusted David Stearns' is
- 7:34Speaker 5: pitching up until May sixteenth ish his pitching plan, do
- 7:39Speaker 5: you think he enjoys the way it's going or do
- 7:41Speaker 5: you think this move solidifies the fact that he's like, David,
- 7:45Speaker 5: great job, get out of my way. We're getting bo
- 7:48Speaker 5: because I cannot lose out on another guy.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I'll be honest, I hope Steve Cohen's not happy with
- 7:54Speaker 3: how it's going. That's still haven't done anything, So it
- 7:57Speaker 3: would be be honestly awful if he was like, hey,
- 7:59Speaker 3: this is going pretty well. I mean, I think we
- 8:01Speaker 3: know he's pretty excited about the project that's gonna be
- 8:03Speaker 3: going on Citney Field in the next coming years. That's
- 8:05Speaker 3: probably a big thing that's helping him out. But for
- 8:08Speaker 3: this Mets team, like I do think this was a
- 8:10Speaker 3: bit of a move that was a.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Little on tilt.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Like I think he got a little frustrated with what
- 8:15Speaker 3: happened with Tucker. The Mets seemingly gave a pretty good
- 8:18Speaker 3: offer to him, maybe something that Steve Cohen thought nobody
- 8:21Speaker 3: could beat. So it does feel a little bit like
- 8:23Speaker 3: he kind of pushed the chips all in here and said,
- 8:25Speaker 3: we have to go get this next guy.
- 8:26Speaker 4: This is the guy I want.
- 8:28Speaker 3: I know that it's been reported that the Mets had
- 8:30Speaker 3: been talking about that this was the plan all along,
- 8:32Speaker 3: that if they didn't get Tucker, they'd moved to Bischet,
- 8:34Speaker 3: but we hadn't heard anything about it. So for me,
- 8:36Speaker 3: from an outside perspective, I think that Cohen definitely got
- 8:39Speaker 3: a little frustrated with what happened last night and they
- 8:42Speaker 3: decided to put all their money and put their chips
- 8:44Speaker 3: into Bobachett and hopefully more moves coming coming forward because
- 8:47Speaker 3: this team still got again a lot of holes.
- 8:50Speaker 6: I want to talk about pitching one more time. You know,
- 8:53Speaker 6: we have six starting pitchers out here for in the
- 8:56Speaker 6: depth chart, including you know, three of the real young
- 8:58Speaker 6: guys and Jonah Toong Sprote and Noel MacLean, who file
- 9:02Speaker 6: accounts should probably be the opening day starter, but the
- 9:04Speaker 6: other two Jonah and Sprote two questions two parter. First,
- 9:10Speaker 6: outside of those guys waiting in the wings, who's the
- 9:12Speaker 6: next young guy prospect guy to come up and in
- 9:16Speaker 6: the starting pitching category, And if it comes down to
- 9:19Speaker 6: these six guys in spring we're competing for the fifth spot,
- 9:22Speaker 6: do you think it's conceivable? Is this something that you
- 9:24Speaker 6: see Stearn's doing or maybe getting some value out of
- 9:27Speaker 6: say Jonah Tom's the sixth guy outside looking in, do
- 9:30Speaker 6: we make a decision on maybe getting a long getting
- 9:33Speaker 6: some long innings out of them, some more big league time,
- 9:35Speaker 6: or possibly turning them into a back end guy because
- 9:38Speaker 6: there's a lot of swing to miss here or is
- 9:39Speaker 6: this going to be a wait and see because of
- 9:41Speaker 6: the because of the wealth of the of the pitching,
- 9:44Speaker 6: do you think anyone could be moving to the bullpen?
- 9:46Speaker 7: Is what I'm trying to ask.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Definitely, I think I think Sproton Tom could definitely be
- 9:49Speaker 3: guys early on the season in the bullpen, especially because
- 9:52Speaker 3: with Tong, we know that the fastball is great, the
- 9:54Speaker 3: change up's awesome. We need to develop that third pitch.
- 9:56Speaker 3: So until he gets a third pitch that's more consistent
- 9:59Speaker 3: between the curveball and slider. I think bullpen long relief
- 10:03Speaker 3: role is kind of what makes the most sense going
- 10:05Speaker 3: into opening day this season. We're spread I think, like
- 10:08Speaker 3: similar to what Stearns has done Milwaukee with guys like
- 10:10Speaker 3: Burns and Peralta and Woodruff. They kind of all started
- 10:13Speaker 3: in the bullpen until they got to a point where
- 10:16Speaker 3: Sterns and the Brewers felt comfortable enough to put them
- 10:18Speaker 3: into that rotation, and then they fill in pretty seamlessly.
- 10:21Speaker 3: So I think, yeah, those guys will be good back
- 10:24Speaker 3: in arms that can give us some length in the bullpen,
- 10:25Speaker 3: and that's never a bad thing to have too, especially
- 10:27Speaker 3: with how often the best starting pitching couldn't go deep
- 10:30Speaker 3: last year.
- 10:30Speaker 4: You don't want to necessarily.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be hard to expect Sean and
- 10:34Speaker 3: I necessarily right out of spring training to be able
- 10:36Speaker 3: to go six seven innings.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Code I saying to those kind of guys.
- 10:38Speaker 3: So to be able to have tongue and sprot in
- 10:40Speaker 3: the bullpen to piggyback off of them if they do
- 10:42Speaker 3: go shorter in and outing. I do love that flexibility,
- 10:45Speaker 3: and I am still very excited to see what strides
- 10:48Speaker 3: forward these guys make during in spring training because the
- 10:51Speaker 3: last time we saw them was at the end of
- 10:52Speaker 3: the season. So maybe Jonah Tong has developed that curve ball,
- 10:55Speaker 3: that slider to become a third or even a fourth
- 10:57Speaker 3: pitch now that he can use to help get out
- 10:59Speaker 3: left hand batters and right handed batters, But.
- 11:02Speaker 4: That will still be be determined.
- 11:04Speaker 3: A guy that you mentioned, though, that's maybe a little
- 11:06Speaker 3: bit slept down, a little under the radar in the system.
- 11:08Speaker 3: We obviously have Christian Scott coming back from injury that
- 11:11Speaker 3: I think is gonna be a big part of this
- 11:12Speaker 3: team too down the stretch. But Jack Wendinger, he absolutely
- 11:15Speaker 3: dominated the miners last year, had one of the highest
- 11:17Speaker 3: ka walk ratios in all of Minor league baseball. I
- 11:20Speaker 3: think because of all the big name young pitchers that
- 11:22Speaker 3: the Mets had, he's been slept on a little bit.
- 11:24Speaker 3: But you're starting to see him kind of float around
- 11:26Speaker 3: that top one hundred prospect list, and twenty twenty six
- 11:29Speaker 3: could be a big, big year for him if he
- 11:31Speaker 3: keeps striking out batters like he has and limiting the walks.
- 11:34Speaker 3: It's just it's hard not to get excited about a
- 11:36Speaker 3: picture like that.
- 11:38Speaker 5: Next move you see and next move that you want
- 11:42Speaker 5: to make this. Yeah, that smile back on your birthday train,
- 11:45Speaker 5: because old birthday cake is totally fine unless you left
- 11:49Speaker 5: it out and it got stale. So we can't let
- 11:51Speaker 5: the Mets get stale here. So the next move you
- 11:54Speaker 5: see happening, and the next move you want to happen.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Okay, so I mean move I see happening. I think
- 12:01Speaker 3: that it's gonna be Franbervaldez. I just it feels like
- 12:04Speaker 3: Framber's been kind of on the Mets radar all off season,
- 12:07Speaker 3: especially with they're gonna go that aggressive with the Bobashett contract.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I would assume that they're gonna go that aggressive with
- 12:12Speaker 3: Franbravaldez too, especially for the qualifying off for stuff. Now,
- 12:15Speaker 3: I think that the Mets will definitely push in some
- 12:17Speaker 3: of the chips on Frambur, and I think you'd be
- 12:19Speaker 3: a great fit in this rotation. I would love to
- 12:22Speaker 3: see them go out and trade for a Freddy Peralta
- 12:24Speaker 3: or again, if you're asking my birthday dream, if Terrek
- 12:27Speaker 3: Scoopble is ever available again, I would love to go
- 12:29Speaker 3: after him. But I think that's I think that's an
- 12:31Speaker 3: insane one to ask for. Freddy Peralta seems more realistic.
- 12:34Speaker 3: That's someone who I'd love to see the Mets go after.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I think they're gonna be focused on pitching and then
- 12:39Speaker 3: maybe they address the outfield again.
- 12:41Speaker 4: And the Cody Bellinger rumors have been so hot and cold.
- 12:43Speaker 3: I can't I can't get a rid as a Met
- 12:45Speaker 3: fan on anything going on this offseason, let alone what's
- 12:48Speaker 3: going on with Cody Bellinger in the Mets interest. So
- 12:50Speaker 3: maybe it's him, maybe it's on the trade market, maybe
- 12:53Speaker 3: they really just believe in Carson Bench. But truthfully, for
- 12:55Speaker 3: me to feel better and what I expect the Mets
- 12:57Speaker 3: to do next, I do think it's gonna be on
- 12:58Speaker 3: the starting pitching market.
- 12:59Speaker 4: I think it's Framber.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Valdez pecking order, and we need a pecking order.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Okay, National League East pecking order today, January sixteenth, Lock
- 13:14Speaker 5: it in, Mark.
- 13:16Speaker 4: I'm gonna go Phillies one.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Still, I think until the Mets win that division, the
- 13:19Speaker 3: Phillies are still the best team, and you look at
- 13:21Speaker 3: them top to bottom, they're good.
- 13:22Speaker 4: I think the Mets are two.
- 13:24Speaker 3: They were pretty close last year and it really took
- 13:26Speaker 3: a spectacular, spectacular collapse at the end of the season
- 13:29Speaker 3: to not make it into the playoffs.
- 13:31Speaker 4: I think Braves are three.
- 13:32Speaker 3: That team just had a weird season, and I would
- 13:35Speaker 3: like to see them be healthy before I can feel
- 13:37Speaker 3: confident about what's going on in Atlanta. Four Marlins, five Nationals.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I think the Nationals are a clear tier even below
- 13:43Speaker 3: the Marlins.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Can you definitively say, because I got roasted by this
- 13:48Speaker 5: secret like Twitter channel chat that doesn't allow outside met
- 13:53Speaker 5: fans in last year, can you definitively say, like I
- 13:56Speaker 5: tried to respond to them and they didn't let me respond.
- 13:58Speaker 7: I was like, we're visual, They weren't vicious. It was fine.
- 14:02Speaker 5: They just said stuff like your ball and you're fat,
- 14:05Speaker 5: you had a brutal career, all things that are very
- 14:07Speaker 5: very true and not that hurtful. But can you definitively
- 14:12Speaker 5: say the Mets today today without your franber Valdez and
- 14:16Speaker 5: Tarrek Scuble trade, are they better than the Braves?
- 14:23Speaker 4: I think so.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Something happened last year with the Braves where I like
- 14:26Speaker 3: a lot of the moves that they made. I don't
- 14:28Speaker 3: think the Braves are a bad team, but I also
- 14:29Speaker 3: was weirdly one of the guys last year very early
- 14:33Speaker 3: to it, where I was like, I don't think the
- 14:33Speaker 3: Braves are going to be necessarily.
- 14:35Speaker 4: As good as we expect them.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I had them missing the playoffs, I had them finishing
- 14:38Speaker 3: in third place last year. My predictions one of the
- 14:40Speaker 3: few things I did get right. But at the same time,
- 14:43Speaker 3: like that team's getting older. We saw some of the
- 14:46Speaker 3: Bats not be as strong as they were in previous years.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I think while there's definitely supposed to be some regression
- 14:51Speaker 3: backs to the mean positively for them, I also think
- 14:53Speaker 3: at times like this might just be the version of
- 14:56Speaker 3: the Braves. It is tough with that rotation. Spencer Schrider
- 14:59Speaker 3: was horrible. I don't think he's go to be that bad,
- 15:01Speaker 3: but you kind of have to see it till you
- 15:02Speaker 3: believe it. Chris Sale is getting a year older. There's
- 15:04Speaker 3: a lot of question marks there. I think them and
- 15:06Speaker 3: the Mets are very close. I think they're in terms
- 15:08Speaker 3: of talent and what their kind of goals are this year.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I think those teams can be interchangeable in that two
- 15:13Speaker 3: to three spot. But I do think that there is
- 15:14Speaker 3: a clear difference between the Mets, Braves and then the
- 15:18Speaker 3: Phillies at the top.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Mark completely off topic, happy birthday, but I have to
- 15:23Speaker 5: ask I haven't watched all the Mets up episodes, but
- 15:27Speaker 5: maybe you explained it is that a Jabbari Blash jersey
- 15:32Speaker 5: hanging up? How on earth do you have a Jabbari
- 15:35Speaker 5: Blash jersey? And how have I never seen it? And
- 15:39Speaker 5: is it only because of the number that's on there
- 15:41Speaker 5: that you have in hanging out?
- 15:43Speaker 4: I think that adds to it.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Jabari, I think knew what he was doing when he
- 15:46Speaker 3: was picking that number out in Japan. But to make
- 15:48Speaker 3: a long story short, Jabari Blash. When I first started
- 15:50Speaker 3: my YouTube journey, I was making MLB the Show videos
- 15:53Speaker 3: and one of the best videos that I made at
- 15:54Speaker 3: the time was using a lineup of common players, which
- 15:57Speaker 3: are the lowest rated guys in the game. I saw
- 15:59Speaker 3: Jabbar's name threw him into the lineup because it's an
- 16:02Speaker 3: awesome name, Jabari Blash, and in that video he performed
- 16:05Speaker 3: incredibly well. So from that moment, on any chance I
- 16:08Speaker 3: got on my channel, I used Jabari in a video
- 16:11Speaker 3: fast forward he gets moved from the A from the
- 16:13Speaker 3: Padres to the Yankees.
- 16:15Speaker 4: I'm a Yankee hater.
- 16:17Speaker 3: That was like one of the worst days for me,
- 16:19Speaker 3: like ever on YouTube where my favorite random player ever
- 16:22Speaker 3: gets traded to the team that I hate. I make
- 16:24Speaker 3: a video reacting to it gets way more views than
- 16:26Speaker 3: it ever should have for a Jabari Blash reaction. Jabari
- 16:29Speaker 3: sees it, reaches out to me, We become friends, and
- 16:32Speaker 3: then we meet each other. He's one of the nicest
- 16:35Speaker 3: guys ever. Truly, like one of the reasons why I'm
- 16:37Speaker 3: still doing what I am today because a major league
- 16:39Speaker 3: baseball player reaching out and like, just show me love
- 16:41Speaker 3: and respect was really cool. And then when he moved
- 16:44Speaker 3: to Japan, he was like, Hey, I want to send
- 16:45Speaker 3: you a jersey, like I appreciate you, know what you've
- 16:47Speaker 3: done for me and making my life positive and all
- 16:51Speaker 3: this kind of stuff. So, uh yeah, Jabari my favorite
- 16:53Speaker 3: player ever, nicest guy I've ever met. Got to hang
- 16:56Speaker 3: up the jersey he sent me there without a doubt.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Wow, that's some duo. Yeah that's cool right, yeah, crazy,
- 17:04Speaker 1: But that's.
- 17:06Speaker 7: As and as he's a monster too.
- 17:08Speaker 5: If you've ever seen Jabari Blash in pursuit, I was
- 17:11Speaker 5: in camp with him one year and I was.
- 17:12Speaker 7: Like, Oh my gosh, how are you.
- 17:14Speaker 5: That's like that large of a person. He waffles baseballs.
- 17:18Speaker 5: But I'll say this for Scott, Yes, giggity.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, you stole my line. I'm not even kidding.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I was waiting for it on the outro. Now I
- 17:29Speaker 1: don't even know what to say. I need my teleg
- 17:32Speaker 1: to change.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Uh gigh Mark, thanks man, you're the man. Happy birthday
- 17:37Speaker 2: and everyone check out messed up, which we're about to
- 17:40Speaker 2: show more about in a second.
- 17:41Speaker 1: But appreciate you.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Thank you, guys. It's go mets.
- 17:47Speaker 7: Hey.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Mike Wilner is back on the show and I'm sure
- 17:50Speaker 2: you'll get plenty from his pod. Uh, this will be
- 17:52Speaker 2: too deep left field with Mike Wilner. Mike, it is
- 17:55Speaker 2: great to have you back on the show, although maybe
- 17:58Speaker 2: not the greatest time.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Right now for Blue Jays.
- 18:00Speaker 2: They should mostly be happy given results from last year
- 18:03Speaker 2: offseason in general. But have we reached the greedy point
- 18:07Speaker 2: with the fan base that expected Kyle Tucker to also
- 18:11Speaker 2: land in their lap?
- 18:12Speaker 1: What's the reaction up in Canada today.
- 18:14Speaker 8: I don't think it's it's greedy.
- 18:16Speaker 9: I think you know the way the Blue Jays were
- 18:19Speaker 9: throwing their weight around in this offseason and snapping up
- 18:22Speaker 9: Dylan Cease right away.
- 18:24Speaker 8: And throwing almost forty million.
- 18:26Speaker 9: Dollars at a reliever they kind of expected one of
- 18:31Speaker 9: Tucker or Bishitt to wind up here in Toronto, and
- 18:35Speaker 9: I did too.
- 18:35Speaker 8: I thought the Blue Jays were absolutely.
- 18:37Speaker 9: Going to sign either one or the other, and to
- 18:40Speaker 9: not get both or to not get either, is pretty disappointing.
- 18:44Speaker 9: But I don't think from a greedy sense. I think
- 18:48Speaker 9: from a team building sense, it feels like they're still
- 18:52Speaker 9: maybe a bat short of where you'd like them to
- 18:56Speaker 9: be right now. I mean, this is a team that
- 18:58Speaker 9: did lead the major leagues batting average and on base
- 19:01Speaker 9: percentage last year, but was middle of the pack in
- 19:03Speaker 9: Homer's and it feels like they're really counting on if
- 19:07Speaker 9: this is it, like, if they don't make the move
- 19:09Speaker 9: on Bellinger or make a trade and get somebody else,
- 19:13Speaker 9: you're really counting on George Springer to repeat what he
- 19:15Speaker 9: did last year, and now he's thirty six, and you're
- 19:18Speaker 9: counting on a big bounce back from Anthony santan Dare
- 19:21Speaker 9: that may or may not happen after he lost an
- 19:23Speaker 9: entire year. So I would say less greedy and more
- 19:28Speaker 9: it sort of felt like this was almost inevitable and
- 19:32Speaker 9: now it hasn't happened.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Before we pivot to Bellinger, and talk about the possibilities
- 19:37Speaker 5: of that. Which one do you think hurts more? The
- 19:40Speaker 5: fact that they didn't bring Bo back or the fact
- 19:43Speaker 5: that they didn't sign Tucker when it was like, okay,
- 19:47Speaker 5: like which one because you talked about power, because the
- 19:50Speaker 5: power with Tucker, But then you talked about the lineup
- 19:53Speaker 5: and what they did last year. Bo was part of that.
- 19:56Speaker 5: So which one hurts more?
- 19:58Speaker 9: I mean both to twenty five homers too, So there's
- 20:03Speaker 9: power there. I was gonna say thirty, but I'm not
- 20:05Speaker 9: sure he's gotten a thirty. But there's power there. And
- 20:08Speaker 9: obviously that home run he hit in Game seven of
- 20:09Speaker 9: the World Series was beyond ridiculous. When you say hurts
- 20:15Speaker 9: Bo hurts more. I've said it a few times over
- 20:18Speaker 9: the course of this winter. It just it's not gonna
- 20:22Speaker 9: feel right for the Blue Jays to open camp, to
- 20:28Speaker 9: take the field, whatever, without Bob Bashett. Now, he's been
- 20:32Speaker 9: part of this organization for a decade. He's been part
- 20:36Speaker 9: of the team since he got called up in August
- 20:38Speaker 9: of twenty nineteen in Kansas City. Got a hit in
- 20:41Speaker 9: his first big league at bad and something like twelve
- 20:44Speaker 9: doubles in his first ten games or something as set
- 20:47Speaker 9: a major league record. He's been an integral part of
- 20:50Speaker 9: this thing and a running mate of Vladimir Guerrero Juniors.
- 20:54Speaker 9: And it's just gonna be so weird. This will be
- 20:57Speaker 9: the first time that Vladdie has played on a team
- 20:59Speaker 9: without Bo since twenty sixteen, I believe, which is wild.
- 21:06Speaker 9: You know, for a full season. He was up a
- 21:08Speaker 9: few months earlier in twenty nineteen than Bishet.
- 21:13Speaker 8: But and you know, Bo is.
- 21:18Speaker 9: Maybe, outside of Luisa Raise, the best pure hitter in
- 21:20Speaker 9: the game. And he's got way more pop than her
- 21:23Speaker 9: eyes too.
- 21:25Speaker 8: He will grind in.
- 21:26Speaker 9: At bat, he'll foul off a million pitches and then
- 21:30Speaker 9: he'll just smack a double the other way. He's just
- 21:33Speaker 9: such a so hard on pitchers and so much fun
- 21:35Speaker 9: to watch. But then you know, Kyle Tucker is left handed,
- 21:41Speaker 9: he doesn't strike out, takes his walks, has the power.
- 21:46Speaker 9: Seemed like the perfect fit behind vlad in the lineup,
- 21:50Speaker 9: and so that hurts too. And I think that's what
- 21:53Speaker 9: the Jay's front office saw a little bit more, and
- 21:56Speaker 9: they were more intent on Tucker than they were on Bo.
- 22:00Speaker 9: But Bo should have been done months ago here in Toronto.
- 22:05Speaker 9: He wanted to stay, but I guess either he wanted
- 22:09Speaker 9: to shop his offers or the front office just didn't
- 22:13Speaker 9: want to meet his price. But it should be said
- 22:16Speaker 9: they didn't want to meet Vlad's price last year either
- 22:18Speaker 9: and had to be forced into it by ownership. That
- 22:21Speaker 9: took until April, and they didn't have that luxury this
- 22:24Speaker 9: time because Vlad wasn't a free agent and Bo was.
- 22:28Speaker 5: Was there some feelings hurt by Bo? You talked about
- 22:31Speaker 5: the connection between him and Vlad. They've been together the
- 22:34Speaker 5: whole time. Vlad was hearing extension talks Bo. From all
- 22:40Speaker 5: that we've heard, he was not hearing extension talks. Vlad
- 22:44Speaker 5: got his extension after BO had a down year. I mean,
- 22:48Speaker 5: I think BO would even say that. So do you
- 22:50Speaker 5: think this relationship was a little severed maybe two three
- 22:54Speaker 5: years ago, when in my opinion, you said they should
- 22:56Speaker 5: have been locked up months ago? I think BO should
- 22:59Speaker 5: have been locked up up years ago.
- 23:02Speaker 9: Oh yeah, like put me in back in twenty nineteen.
- 23:04Speaker 9: And I'm signing Bo and Vlad to you know, Ronald
- 23:08Speaker 9: Acunya and Ozzy Albi's contracts for sure, but also you know,
- 23:13Speaker 9: if I'm doing that, I'm also signing Jordan Romano and
- 23:15Speaker 9: Danny Jansen and Cavin Biggio and Alec Manoa to contracts
- 23:18Speaker 9: like that, and some work and some don't. But yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 9: they they could have saved themselves hundreds of millions of
- 23:24Speaker 9: dollars by being more proactive and by having more faith
- 23:29Speaker 9: in their players.
- 23:30Speaker 8: For sure.
- 23:31Speaker 9: As far as the more recent extension talks, I don't think.
- 23:36Speaker 8: I mean, if it rubbed Bo the wrong way, then.
- 23:39Speaker 9: You know, he's got to look at himself, and I
- 23:41Speaker 9: don't think it did. But coming off a year like
- 23:44Speaker 9: Bo had in twenty twenty four, after he missed half
- 23:48Speaker 9: the season, hurt and hit two twenty five and had
- 23:50Speaker 9: the worst year of his career, there was no way
- 23:53Speaker 9: to sign him for an extension. I mean, if the
- 23:56Speaker 9: Blue Jays had made an offer there, it would have
- 23:58Speaker 9: been way short of what Bow wanted, and rightfully so.
- 24:02Speaker 9: And if Bo had come in with his number it
- 24:04Speaker 9: would have been crazy high coming off of the injuries
- 24:07Speaker 9: in the year. So it really was not a good
- 24:10Speaker 9: fit for an extension, which doesn't mean they couldn't have
- 24:14Speaker 9: revisited it at the All Star break this year when
- 24:17Speaker 9: we saw Bow was back to being Bo, and we
- 24:19Speaker 9: kind of understand that that's his level of performance when
- 24:22Speaker 9: he's healthy. But as far as an extension last winter,
- 24:26Speaker 9: there was just no number that would have been remotely
- 24:29Speaker 9: close for both sides.
- 24:32Speaker 6: I love the optimism that it would have been an
- 24:35Speaker 6: option to sign to an acunya an Ozzie Albi's deal.
- 24:39Speaker 6: I'm assuming Azzie in this situation as Bashet, but he's
- 24:42Speaker 6: got an ex MLB player for a dad. I don't
- 24:44Speaker 6: think seven to thirty five. Maybe it would have been
- 24:46Speaker 6: on the table, but maybe something close. I do like
- 24:49Speaker 6: that a lot, though, So now we know that bo
- 24:51Speaker 6: is not on the table anymore, and as well as
- 24:54Speaker 6: Kyle Tucker. Of the free agents that are left, who
- 24:58Speaker 6: do you think could be the best maybe top two
- 25:01Speaker 6: fits to help the blue Jays in twenty twenty six.
- 25:05Speaker 8: Well, first of all, I agree with you on the
- 25:06Speaker 8: Albu's thing.
- 25:07Speaker 9: I was just talking strategy and as opposed to Tigers but.
- 25:10Speaker 8: Lots for seven or eight years.
- 25:13Speaker 9: But yeah, that would have been swell, but too many
- 25:16Speaker 9: major league dads in that they didn't need the money
- 25:19Speaker 9: for sure. Cody Bellinger obviously stands out as the next
- 25:24Speaker 9: best fit, especially when the Blue Jays seem to have
- 25:28Speaker 9: been so focused on Kyle Tucker, and Bellinger has shown
- 25:31Speaker 9: he can play in the Al East. He is a
- 25:34Speaker 9: very good defensive outfielder as opposed to Tucker, and defense
- 25:38Speaker 9: is something that the Blue Jays seem to really want.
- 25:42Speaker 9: It's a weird fit, but Tucker would have been a
- 25:44Speaker 9: weird fit, and they were willing to make it happen
- 25:48Speaker 9: because you've got Addison Barger, You've got Anthony Santanderra and
- 25:52Speaker 9: George Springer. And while Barger played a lot of third
- 25:55Speaker 9: last year, Cosmo Komoto was here to do that this year,
- 25:59Speaker 9: and you would assume that they didn't give him sixty
- 26:01Speaker 9: million bucks to be a part time player. So you
- 26:04Speaker 9: wonder quite how the dominoes are going to roll that way.
- 26:09Speaker 9: But I would imagine that Cody Bellinger is the next target.
- 26:17Speaker 9: And if not, look you've got Nathan Lucas. And Nathan Lucas,
- 26:20Speaker 9: while he's been an average major league hitter, was a
- 26:24Speaker 9: leadoff good enough to be a leadoff man in a
- 26:25Speaker 9: World Series game and score the winning run in that game.
- 26:28Speaker 9: You've got Joey Loperfido who came up last July and
- 26:32Speaker 9: was ridiculous for six weeks, who might get a chance
- 26:36Speaker 9: as well.
- 26:37Speaker 8: But it does feel like, you know, if.
- 26:40Speaker 9: You're if you're acting like a bully in free agency
- 26:44Speaker 9: and you're taking aim at the Kyle Tuckers of the world,
- 26:48Speaker 9: then a pivot to Cody Bellinger should not be out
- 26:51Speaker 9: of your reach at all.
- 26:53Speaker 5: I think there's probably some more versatility there because you're
- 26:56Speaker 5: gonna lose Dalton varshow soon. You don't want Anthony Santan
- 26:59Speaker 5: dere laying and is into his last years of his
- 27:03Speaker 5: contract in the outfield. So yeah, I think I think Kyle,
- 27:07Speaker 5: I mean, I think Cody has more versatility. Are the
- 27:10Speaker 5: Blue Jays the number one team in the American League
- 27:13Speaker 5: East as we sit here.
- 27:14Speaker 9: Today, Yeah, I think so. Boston's improved their pitching. But
- 27:20Speaker 9: just to catch up to the Blue Jays, right, You've
- 27:22Speaker 9: got a top four in your rotation of Gosman, Cse
- 27:27Speaker 9: Bieber and Yes Savage and Jose Barrios is your fifth
- 27:33Speaker 9: or Cody Ponce, who just had the best year anyone's
- 27:37Speaker 9: ever had in Korea. That's that's pretty good. And as
- 27:41Speaker 9: much as Jeff Hoffman gave up that home run in
- 27:45Speaker 9: Game seven of the World Series, Jeff Hoffman was a
- 27:48Speaker 9: solid closer. Jimmy Garcia is terrific. Taylor Rodgers Tyler. I
- 27:55Speaker 9: can't tell the twins apart. Whichever Rogers the Blue Jays
- 27:59Speaker 9: wound up getting.
- 28:00Speaker 8: Is Tyler ridiculous? Tyler, He's I mean stupid.
- 28:04Speaker 9: A six twenty ops against both sides for a knuckle Draggers,
- 28:09Speaker 9: that's amazing.
- 28:10Speaker 8: The bullpen is solid.
- 28:12Speaker 9: Could use a capital C closer to push everybody down,
- 28:16Speaker 9: but doesn't need it. And again it's it's a tremendous
- 28:21Speaker 9: defense and a very good offense. So yeah, the Yankees
- 28:25Speaker 9: haven't done anything. The Orioles haven't done enough. I do
- 28:30Speaker 9: think the Blue Jays right now are still the best
- 28:33Speaker 9: team in the Alias.
- 28:36Speaker 7: Is there a.
- 28:39Speaker 5: Scenario that we look at and we say the Blue
- 28:41Speaker 5: Jays are a sleeper team for a trade because everything
- 28:48Speaker 5: has been free agent? Yea, everything has been in that
- 28:51Speaker 5: free agency. But when you have a season where you're
- 28:54Speaker 5: coming off a World Series and you have the Nathan Lucas,
- 28:57Speaker 5: you have the Ernie Clement, you have the Addison Bargers,
- 28:59Speaker 5: which the casual fans had no idea about. Are the
- 29:04Speaker 5: Blue Jays in a position do you feel like they've
- 29:07Speaker 5: built up so much cachet that they'd be fine getting
- 29:10Speaker 5: rid of some of their big league talent to land
- 29:13Speaker 5: that one last piece in a trade, because all that
- 29:16Speaker 5: we've heard about the Blue Jays mostly has been money, money, money, money, money, money,
- 29:22Speaker 5: and then bring this trade in to give them that
- 29:24Speaker 5: final piece.
- 29:26Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 29:26Speaker 9: Absolutely, you know all those extra pieces, right, Lucas and
- 29:31Speaker 9: low Berfido, David Schneider, even Jose Barrios, though that's a
- 29:36Speaker 9: tough contract to move. Lucas is tough to move also
- 29:40Speaker 9: because he's thirty one and he's only had one full
- 29:42Speaker 9: season in the majors. But you know, there, you could
- 29:46Speaker 9: dangle Addison Barger to get that one final piece. There
- 29:51Speaker 9: are pieces that this team can trade. They have a
- 29:54Speaker 9: surplus of players, and they have some solid prospects in
- 29:58Speaker 9: the lower miners. So absolutely, I'm not putting it past
- 30:03Speaker 9: them to make a deal. We're still a month away
- 30:06Speaker 9: from a full squad at spring training. There's lots of
- 30:09Speaker 9: time to do things.
- 30:10Speaker 8: And it's true we have absolutely been concentrating on the
- 30:14Speaker 8: free agent market so much.
- 30:16Speaker 9: Probably because of Cease and because of all the Tucker
- 30:18Speaker 9: talk from the beginning of the off season. But they
- 30:21Speaker 9: are well positioned to make a trade if there's a fit.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Hey, last one for you, Mike.
- 30:29Speaker 2: We'll do it quick and you got to jump and
- 30:31Speaker 2: I want to promote your pod one more time. Blue
- 30:34Speaker 2: Jays fans perception of the Dodgers. They fall just short
- 30:37Speaker 2: in the World Series, and the Dodgers have beat them
- 30:40Speaker 2: in some signings lately. Hey, I think this is a
- 30:44Speaker 2: golden era right now for the Jays. And in summary,
- 30:47Speaker 2: we've capitalized for sure, right or they've capitalized on all
- 30:51Speaker 2: of the money they made, all the attention they're grabbing.
- 30:53Speaker 2: But got imagine they just despise the Dodgers at the
- 30:58Speaker 2: moment and how they've grabbed Show and some others or
- 31:01Speaker 2: is it more like us against the not the world?
- 31:04Speaker 2: But what was it during the World Series? We don't
- 31:07Speaker 2: need you something along those lines to show, hey, right.
- 31:11Speaker 9: And the same thing will happen, Well, the same thing
- 31:13Speaker 9: would happen to Tucker. I guess the Dodgers are here
- 31:16Speaker 9: this year, so yeah, the same thing will probably happen
- 31:18Speaker 9: to Tucker that we don't need you chant. It was
- 31:21Speaker 9: amazing with showhy there in Game one of the World Series,
- 31:25Speaker 9: and I think you know, the Dodgers are now what
- 31:29Speaker 9: the Yankees and Red Sox used to be here living
- 31:32Speaker 9: in the Al.
- 31:32Speaker 8: East for the last forever.
- 31:35Speaker 9: The Blue Jays had a ton of very good teams
- 31:38Speaker 9: between nineteen ninety eight and twenty and fourteen and couldn't
- 31:43Speaker 9: get a sniff because the Yankees and the Red Sox
- 31:46Speaker 9: were the big bullies.
- 31:47Speaker 8: On the block.
- 31:48Speaker 9: And now the Dodgers are that, And I think it's great.
- 31:51Speaker 9: I mean, I'd much rather the sixty million dollars go
- 31:54Speaker 9: to Kyle Tucker every year than go into the pockets
- 31:56Speaker 9: of the Dodgers' owners and Rogers, who owns the Blue Jays.
- 32:02Speaker 9: The Jays, honestly are like their entire payroll is a
- 32:07Speaker 9: rounding error on the Rogers balance sheet because so much
- 32:10Speaker 9: of their money comes from cable and wireless, so you
- 32:13Speaker 9: can afford it, go spend it. Better to spend it
- 32:15Speaker 9: on the players than to keep it for yourselves. But yeah,
- 32:19Speaker 9: Jays fans are not happy with the Dodgers for sure.
- 32:24Speaker 9: Otani Sasaki. Now Tucker feels like the Mets finished second
- 32:28Speaker 9: to Tucker as opposed to the Blue Jays there because
- 32:32Speaker 9: he was looking for I guess, the short term, high
- 32:34Speaker 9: value deal. But it's great to have a villain and
- 32:38Speaker 9: for a while they're the Blue Jays where the villains
- 32:40Speaker 9: in the American League this offseason, And they may still be,
- 32:44Speaker 9: and they haven't been for a very, very, very long time.
- 32:47Speaker 9: But yeah, everybody hates the Dodgers. I don't think they're
- 32:50Speaker 9: ruining baseball. I think it's great. I think more teams
- 32:53Speaker 9: should behave like they do, and I'm glad that the
- 32:56Speaker 9: Blue Jays are starting to. But there is zero love loss.
- 33:01Speaker 9: I've had a couple of people already in the last
- 33:03Speaker 9: day tell me that the only that they want the
- 33:09Speaker 9: Blue Jays to win the World Series in twenty twenty six,
- 33:12Speaker 9: but it will only taste really good if they do
- 33:16Speaker 9: it against the Dodgers.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Wow.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Wow, see that Trevor is greedy. We don't want just
- 33:21Speaker 2: the title. We want a title over the Dodgers.
- 33:24Speaker 1: But I love it. Hey, I love it.
- 33:26Speaker 2: You have to be unreasonable, yes, as a fan in
- 33:29Speaker 2: this sport. Mike, thank you so much for the time.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Appreciate you. We could show the board here for Mike
- 33:33Speaker 2: to call it out on his own Mike, just where
- 33:36Speaker 2: everyone can catch your show.
- 33:38Speaker 9: Yeah, it's deep left field. The new episode came out
- 33:43Speaker 9: yesterday before Tucker and Bow signed, but we're going to
- 33:46Speaker 9: get a bonus episode up tomorrow to talk about the
- 33:50Speaker 9: two signings. But in this one I talked to Ernie
- 33:52Speaker 9: Clement and he talks about Game seven and the aftermath,
- 33:56Speaker 9: and he said at the time he made a pitch
- 34:00Speaker 9: to bo At Bischett's wedding last weekend or two weekends
- 34:03Speaker 9: ago to come back to the JAS, and that he
- 34:06Speaker 9: was kind of hoping they would sign both.
- 34:07Speaker 8: Tucker and Bushett.
- 34:08Speaker 9: Now that's greedy, but that's what you would expect from
- 34:11Speaker 9: a player.
- 34:12Speaker 1: We love it. Oh, I want to hear all about that.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Ernie Clement's an awesome personality too, so looking forward to
- 34:17Speaker 2: catching that.
- 34:18Speaker 8: Mike.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Thanks again, great to catch up with.
- 34:19Speaker 9: You anytime, guys. Thanks for having me a word for video.
- 34:24Speaker 8: Good.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Leo is just basking in cash right now. Your bet
- 34:32Speaker 2: MGM futures and changes in line movement for the Dodgers
- 34:37Speaker 2: after they signed Kyle Tucker. So you have the open price,
- 34:42Speaker 2: the before KT and the after KT. So they were
- 34:45Speaker 2: at plus three hundred Kyle Tucker signs. That line now
- 34:49Speaker 2: moves to plus two twenty five. It's almost two to
- 34:52Speaker 2: one odds for the Dodgers to win the World Series.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I don't know if we've ever seen that National League
- 34:58Speaker 2: they're at plus one p thirty one point three to
- 35:01Speaker 2: one odds and then to win the NL West.
- 35:04Speaker 1: That's the real crazy one too.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Minus three seventy five has now jumped to minus six
- 35:09Speaker 2: fifty six fifty to win a hondo for the Dodgers
- 35:14Speaker 2: to win the National League West.
- 35:15Speaker 8: Damn?
- 35:17Speaker 1: Who thoughts on this movement here? And how?
- 35:21Speaker 2: I mean, I guess you can touch it, but it's
- 35:25Speaker 2: just really tough to get any value out of this.
- 35:28Speaker 6: Trevor don't I'm I'm sure someone's doing it, but yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 6: I even without Tucker, I mean, like, you're not going
- 35:37Speaker 6: to make a ton of money. I mean, anyone out
- 35:40Speaker 6: there who's like, I'll do three to fifty for one
- 35:41Speaker 6: hundred for them to win the West, Yeah, it might
- 35:44Speaker 6: be out of the window now or sorry, three seventy
- 35:46Speaker 6: five for for one guy to move it that way,
- 35:49Speaker 6: especially with a guy with a bunch of team, with
- 35:51Speaker 6: a bunch of MVPs on already probably a gut punch
- 35:54Speaker 6: for the people who who are preparing to make that
- 35:56Speaker 6: just to have some little bit of security because they've won.
- 35:59Speaker 6: I don't know what is the one what like sixty
- 36:01Speaker 6: of the last sixty one or something visions. So I mean,
- 36:08Speaker 6: good luck, guys. If you there is no sure bets,
- 36:11Speaker 6: as they say, but as it goes, that might be
- 36:14Speaker 6: your best.
- 36:15Speaker 1: This might be the.
- 36:16Speaker 6: Best direction you've ever been able to go in order
- 36:19Speaker 6: to feel confident at all.
- 36:20Speaker 7: About anything going your way.
- 36:22Speaker 5: So I mean to move the lines like this. People
- 36:26Speaker 5: don't know lines or anything like that. The NL West
- 36:29Speaker 5: one is it's wild. I know it's not a dollar
- 36:32Speaker 5: for dollar compared to the World Series, but for the
- 36:34Speaker 5: World Series odds to move almost an entire point is crazy.
- 36:40Speaker 5: And the fact that they're almost a two to one
- 36:42Speaker 5: favorite to win the World Series, not against another team.
- 36:47Speaker 5: When they were down in the series last year, I
- 36:49Speaker 5: bought them at two hundred plus two hundred, and they
- 36:52Speaker 5: were just playing the Dodgers like there was just another team.
- 36:56Speaker 5: You have twenty nine other teams. That's where everybody feel
- 37:00Speaker 5: the Dodgers are to win the World Series. But the
- 37:02Speaker 5: fact that the NL West shifted almost double, you almost
- 37:08Speaker 5: have to put down twice the amount that you had
- 37:10Speaker 5: to just to win one hundred is a crazy number.
- 37:13Speaker 5: But it's also a number that says, dang his team
- 37:17Speaker 5: is good.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 37:21Speaker 2: So it's just crazy to see one signing make an
- 37:23Speaker 2: impact like that too. The Dodgers were already heavily favored,
- 37:28Speaker 2: and when you add Tucker and a win projection that
- 37:31Speaker 2: goes into models like this. That's what's crazy, Trevor. Now,
- 37:36Speaker 2: I don't know if the the win added here total
- 37:40Speaker 2: for Kyle Tucker will actually impact. Like I'm curious to
- 37:44Speaker 2: see the win loss number, right, the win total number
- 37:48Speaker 2: for the Dodgers. So do you think some of that
- 37:51Speaker 2: has to do with the way that they manage their
- 37:53Speaker 2: pitching staff throughout a season and they really pump the
- 37:56Speaker 2: brakes on guys to make sure that they're going to
- 37:58Speaker 2: be ready for October. I bet the jump there is
- 38:01Speaker 2: not as significant as the odds moving towards them just doing.
- 38:05Speaker 1: What they need to do.
- 38:06Speaker 7: Right.
- 38:07Speaker 2: It's crazy to think this way, but Trevor, I actually
- 38:09Speaker 2: think the Dodgers are able to look at the landscape
- 38:12Speaker 2: of where they're at division wise and be like, Okay,
- 38:16Speaker 2: we can take it easy on these pitchers at this
- 38:18Speaker 2: time period, since we're up eight games at the moment
- 38:21Speaker 2: on the division. I know that sounds kind of crazy,
- 38:23Speaker 2: but they are making sure, of course they're in a
- 38:25Speaker 2: comfy spot. They take the division down and that their
- 38:29Speaker 2: pitching is going to be ready for the postseason. I
- 38:31Speaker 2: don't know if that made any sense, but the impact
- 38:34Speaker 2: of that contractor makes of course going to okay, what
- 38:36Speaker 2: do you got for us?
- 38:38Speaker 5: So just the other day we locked in the Dodgers
- 38:43Speaker 5: under at ninety nine wins, today one hundred and three
- 38:50Speaker 5: and a half.
- 38:51Speaker 1: These Oh see, that's awesome. See that's what happened last year.
- 38:54Speaker 2: And then if you smashed the under, you were you
- 38:57Speaker 2: crushed it right, Dodgers finished with what last year?
- 39:00Speaker 1: Ninety five wins? I want to say, I'll look it up.
- 39:04Speaker 7: Three wins?
- 39:04Speaker 1: Was it ninety three?
- 39:05Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 39:06Speaker 5: I thought I thought they were closer than ninety three,
- 39:07Speaker 5: But I have it right here.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Ninety three.
- 39:10Speaker 2: So they were in the hundreds last year heading into
- 39:13Speaker 2: the season, right, it might have been like one oh
- 39:14Speaker 2: one point five whatever it was, and that was an
- 39:18Speaker 2: easy hit. I think that's going to be the same
- 39:20Speaker 2: case again here. I don't think this team's winning one
- 39:22Speaker 2: hundred four games. I think they're gonna go through all
- 39:24Speaker 2: kinds of pitching, injuries and fun and they're just gonna
- 39:26Speaker 2: be like, cool, we don't care.
- 39:27Speaker 1: We're gonna win enough games.
- 39:28Speaker 2: We'll win ninety seven games, but one oh three point
- 39:31Speaker 2: five that's the number.
- 39:35Speaker 7: Them three point yeah, and I don't see win that many.
- 39:39Speaker 1: They get lucky.
- 39:40Speaker 6: Yeah, if everyone's healthy, they could, but then it's not
- 39:42Speaker 6: their goal. It's not their goal. The one oh seven
- 39:44Speaker 6: was because no one got hurt a few years ago.
- 39:46Speaker 6: That's why they won one hundred and seven games.
- 39:48Speaker 7: Yeah, but they have.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I was gonna say guys that went deep in October
- 39:52Speaker 2: and then a lot of dudes that'll be involved in
- 39:54Speaker 2: the WBC too, But anyway, krats.
- 39:57Speaker 5: No, I don't think it's necessarily injuries. Like the Braves
- 40:00Speaker 5: had injuries. They had dudes that could not come back.
- 40:04Speaker 5: The Dodgers have guys that were hurting. Can we call
- 40:08Speaker 5: it the mitigation? Like they were just mitigating through the season,
- 40:12Speaker 5: Like it's okay, Like I get it, Blake Snell, you're
- 40:16Speaker 5: barking a little bit. You know, we want you to
- 40:17Speaker 5: be full strength. We're gonna let you build up as
- 40:20Speaker 5: much as we can. Then we're gonna throw you on
- 40:22Speaker 5: a larger, a longer rehab assignment. We know we have
- 40:26Speaker 5: show Hey, we know we have Yamamoto six day guys.
- 40:30Speaker 5: Is Roki gonna come back to the rotation at some
- 40:33Speaker 5: point doubtful, But is another six day guy? Like they're
- 40:37Speaker 5: spreading these guys out, and that's where I see it
- 40:40Speaker 5: being really tough, and I'm locking in.
- 40:43Speaker 7: I'm doubled.
- 40:44Speaker 5: I guess I'm essentially doubling it down because I bought
- 40:46Speaker 5: it at ninety nine and I loved it. I can't
- 40:49Speaker 5: not love it at one hundred and maybe less than
- 40:51Speaker 5: one hundred and four. Theyn one hundred and three wins
- 40:53Speaker 5: or less, and I'm taking it. Sorry, the game is,
- 40:57Speaker 5: it's too tough, The NST is too good, and I
- 41:00Speaker 5: don't think the Dodgers want to put everything that it
- 41:04Speaker 5: takes to win one hundred and four games into it.
- 41:07Speaker 7: I could be wrong.
- 41:08Speaker 5: They're much better team than one hundred and three wins,
- 41:10Speaker 5: but I don't think they care.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Yeah, older position players too, right, amazing team. No one
- 41:17Speaker 2: thinks they're not going to win the division. All that,
- 41:18Speaker 2: but just a different situation. Hey, we're showing you the
