- 0:00Chapter ten, punishment. All men tremble at punishment. All men fear death.
- 0:10Remember that you are like unto them, and do not kill nor call
- 0:16slaughter. All men tremble at punishment. All men love life. Remember that
- 0:26thou art like unto them, and do not kill nor call slaughter. He
- 0:34who seeking his own happiness punishes or kills beings who also long for happiness,
- 0:41will not find happiness after death. He who seeking his own happiness does not
- 0:50punish or kill beings who also long for happiness, will find happiness after death.
- 1:00Speak harshly to anybody. Those who are spoken to will answer THEE in
- 1:04the same way. Angry speech is painful. Blows for blows will touch THEE.
- 1:15If, like a shattered metal plate gong, thou utter not, then
- 1:22thou hast reached nirvana. Contention is not known to THEE. As a cowherd
- 1:30with his staff drives his cows into the stable, so do age and death
- 1:37drive the life of men. A fool does not know when he commits his
- 1:44evil deeds, but the wicked man burns by his own deeds, as if
- 1:49burnt by fire. He who inflicts pain on innocent and harmless persons will soon
- 1:59come to one of these ten states, he will have cruel suffering, loss
- 2:07injury of the body, heavy affliction or loss of mind, or a misfortune
- 2:15coming from the king, or a fearful accusation or loss of relations, or
- 2:22destruction of treasures, or lightning fire will burn his houses, and when his
- 2:29body is destroyed, the fool will go to hell. Not nakedness, not
- 2:38plaited hair, not dirt, not fasting or lying on the earth, not
- 2:45rubbing with dust, not sitting motionless, can purify a mortal who has not
- 2:52overcome desires. He who, though dressed in fine apparel, exercises tranquility,
- 3:02is quiet, subdued, restrained, chaste, and has ceased to find fault
- 3:09with all other beings. He, indeed is a bramina, an ascetic shramana,
- 3:17a friar ictuu. Is there in this world any man so restrained by
- 3:25humility that he does not mind reproof as a well trained horse the whip.
- 3:36Like a well trained horse, when touched by the whip, be ye active
- 3:39and lively, and by faith, by virtue, by energy, by meditation,
- 3:46by discernment of the law, you will overcome this great pain of reproof.
- 3:53Perfect in knowledge and in behavior, and never forgetful. Well makers lead
- 4:01the water wherever they like. Fletchers bend the arrow, Carpenters bend a log
- 4:10of wood. Good people fashion themselves. End of Chapter ten
