Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, it's time for most things Kenobi.
- 0:04I prefer all things Kenobi, but I suppose that's not the Jedi
- 0:08way as long as it's not all things Anakin.
- 0:23Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of most things Kenobi.
- 0:26A podcast about Obi-Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:30I'm your host Lauren and I'm your host Leanne and this week,
- 0:35we're doing part two of our, OB 1M wall episodes, AB stoked.
- 0:43The fire continues in the dumpster.
- 0:45Yay, it's burning bright. It's burning made the dumpster
- 0:51Fire Light the way for your Jedi.
- 0:53Future illuminate your path with garbage, fire.
- 1:02We are essentially talking about the finale of these two.
- 1:08Yes, we're where do we pick up in the Clone Wars?
- 1:11We're starting with the Lawless. Are we not?
- 1:13Yes, we are. And going all the way through
- 1:16the culmination that occurs in Rebels.
- 1:19Yes. And there's a lot in this there,
- 1:23there. Is a lot and it is all sad.
- 1:26It's all said, it's all really. There's some creepy shit to like
- 1:30the satine's Shrine. We got to talk about.
- 1:33Oh, dude, and I like found some stuff out about that like which
- 1:36probably anybody could have found out but I felt really
- 1:40tearing it up. Well, I have thoughts.
- 1:44I have a lot of thoughts on that Satine.
- 1:46Shrine. Yeah, it's okay, we'll get
- 1:50there. I want to like, jump right into
- 1:52it. We gotta pee.
- 1:53Pace ourselves because these two have a sordid history that we
- 1:57have to comb through here. Yeah, so our last episode took
- 2:02covered Phantom Menace. All the way through Revival,
- 2:05where mole comes back in Obi-Wan and he have a confrontation.
- 2:09So now moving forward. We're going to go from the
- 2:10Lawless basically all the way through Rebels and just kind of
- 2:14discuss their Twisted sorted relationship.
- 2:18Yeah. I mean, I mentioned In episode
- 2:241. Well, okay, part 1.
- 2:26I should say, yeah, I mentioned it 80 some episodes ago.
- 2:30I know it's our 81st 82nd. What is it?
- 2:34Every second? It's are eighty second episode
- 2:37WTF. We're going to make it to 100.
- 2:41Oh, hell, yes! We are released at least.
- 2:44Yeah. We haven't missed a single week.
- 2:48No, I don't know how I've done it.
- 2:50My God with all the shit that goes on.
- 2:53Jean in our personal lives. Oh, we have stayed committed,
- 2:58folks. Yeah, well I think it's because
- 3:00this is like one of the bright spots that our universe.
- 3:02So it really is. It really is.
- 3:05Thanks to a lot of you listening, honestly, truly yes.
- 3:09Oh my gosh, 100% true. Oh, by the way, this is an
- 3:13episode that will come up, come out prior to the Christmas
- 3:17holiday and New Year's whatever. If you celebrate, if you don't,
- 3:23that's Wall. Or if you celebrated other
- 3:25holidays, there's other holidays going on.
- 3:28We just love you all, and wish you all a season's greetings.
- 3:33Yes, season's greetings, happy holidays.
- 3:36We are sending our patrons, a little something, something
- 3:39something in the mail. Mmm, at the start of the new
- 3:42year, so consider supporting the podcast, and you'll get free
- 3:45stuff. Yay!
- 3:48Little things in the mail little things.
- 3:52Okay. Anyway, we got mall, we got
- 3:54Obi-Wan, we got drama with some about it.
- 3:58Yeah, so the Lawless rips, your heart right out of your chest
- 4:02and then throws it into a fire. Makes you watch your entrails
- 4:05smoldering? I'm just saying descriptive.
- 4:12I just want to note that Lauren is wearing a red and black top,
- 4:16which is extremely appropriate for any conversation that
- 4:21involves mall and I drank Red wine, very close before
- 4:26recording. So I'm definitely ready for
- 4:30death and Marion conversation. Well, maybe it'll help the
- 4:33Lawless be digested slightly better than usually.
- 4:38Usually is. I mean what is there to say
- 4:39about the Lawless Molly is at his Peak?
- 4:44Yeah. He's at his Peak for anger.
- 4:47He's at his Peak for ruthlessness.
- 4:51His revenge is on foot. Old display.
- 4:55He's so giddy about killing somebody who means something to
- 5:00all we want and it's crazy. He's fucking nuts, he's loving
- 5:06every minute of it and he feels like he's sewing control until
- 5:10the very end where he starts to like get very panicked when
- 5:13Palpatine arrives. But yes, I I love To watch.
- 5:21Mall. Think he's got one, finally on
- 5:24Obi-Wan and it just doesn't work.
- 5:26I mean it's a little more effective, it definitely hurt.
- 5:30Obi-Wan, but Obi-Wan is so fucking amazing that he still
- 5:35doesn't give Mall what he's after.
- 5:38Yeah. And never does, that's why he's
- 5:40great. It's so cool too because at the
- 5:43same time while he's being super true to his his ideals, a lot of
- 5:48the cinematography shows. I'm going from right to left.
- 5:55Which is an indication of going against the status quo.
- 5:59So he's breaking his because a lot of times Obi-Wan is very
- 6:04centered in the frame in the actual I cinematography and is
- 6:08often facing to the right and in a lot of this episode he's
- 6:13facing left or moving left. A lot of times and there's even
- 6:17the moment which the teen hugs him, and she pushes him from
- 6:20left back to the right to like we trusting establish him in.
- 6:25His, you know, the the positive moving in the right direction
- 6:30and a lot of that comes from like an in college.
- 6:32They kind of taught us that in our Western culture we read from
- 6:38left to right. We're on the right side of the
- 6:40street it's like it's programmed into our brain, but going with
- 6:45the flow with the traffic is on the right and going against
- 6:48traffic, you're moving against it on the left.
- 6:50So it's kind of this interesting choice in cinematography to show
- 6:55that Obi-Wan's go. Rogue a bit in this episode.
- 6:58I didn't know any of that. I'm sitting here.
- 7:01Amazed, by all of it. Well, he, there's even a moment
- 7:06where when he's seeing the call from stettin.
- 7:10Hmm. And Yoda is facing right
- 7:12ki-adi-mundi is facing right? Obi-Wan is facing left.
- 7:16He's going opposite direction from the other Jedi and it's he
- 7:20literally turns from right to left as he's making the decision
- 7:24to go. Go after City and even though
- 7:27I've been told not to. Yeah.
- 7:29You're right. So it's it's really deliberately
- 7:32showing that he's doing that but the thing I think is so cool is
- 7:37he's going against all of that. But in this episode he is more a
- 7:42Jedi than ever before. Yeah, I mean it really
- 7:46solidifies it at a pretty hefty cost.
- 7:51But if there was ever a doubt that Obi-Wan was a good man, you
- 7:56know, the erased by his display of control in this.
- 8:01And it's funny to look at the Is of control malls is so
- 8:06superficial and fake. You know, he's risen to the
- 8:09throne and Mandalore, it's fake control over something.
- 8:15He never learned, and he's appearing in control of
- 8:19Obi-Wan's Fate by doing what he does to Satine, and that's fake.
- 8:23Because Obi-Wan doesn't give it to him.
- 8:25And meanwhile, Obi-Wan is the real version of control.
- 8:29He's emotionally under control for, as devastating as the Ian
- 8:34is, he's in control of his actions.
- 8:38He goes right into battle. After all this lest.
- 8:42We forget that. He just has to shelve it and
- 8:45move on rather fucking quickly. And it's a real, it's a contrast
- 8:53between the two very deep control, centered, sure of
- 8:58himself on Obi-Wan side. And then this, like, Almost, I
- 9:04don't know. Flamboyant display of control
- 9:06that is so surface level with Mall.
- 9:10Yeah, yeah I mean it's it's really interesting because
- 9:16there's that moment, right? Where he has that, pretty famous
- 9:19line about how you should have chosen the dark side.
- 9:23He says the ACT 220 b 1. And your emotions betray you and
- 9:29everyone's response is, you can kill me but you can never
- 9:33destroy me, right? And I love that I do too,
- 9:38because it's like death is not a punishment to him know, which is
- 9:44sick because well, never intended to kill him.
- 9:47He's actually going to kill the person, he loves.
- 9:50And everyone's kind of, like not caught on to that quite yet, but
- 9:55it's a little hard. To accept even in the moment.
- 9:58Yeah, for sure. And he says, it takes strength
- 10:00to resist the dark side. Only the weak.
- 10:03Embrace it. Yeah.
- 10:04Those who oppose it are more powerful than you'll ever be,
- 10:08and I just love that moment so much.
- 10:11It hurts a little because goddamnit Anakin come on, but
- 10:18it's it's literally what he's saying in that moment is
- 10:21essentially what Luke displays in Return of the Jedi.
- 10:26It's So good. It's Obi-Wan was the perfect
- 10:29Mentor for him? I think, you know, for for as
- 10:32little as they had together, it really left an imprint on him
- 10:37but it's the old thing of, you know, a king or an emperor or
- 10:42some kind of tyrant can take away, your land, can take away,
- 10:45your family can take away, can destroy everything around you
- 10:48but they can't take away your thoughts and your inner strength
- 10:51or anything that makes you, you, you know what I mean?
- 10:54They can try but it's up to the cell Oath to not.
- 10:58Let that be destroyed. That's where they don't have
- 11:00control. And that's essentially what
- 11:02we're seeing with mall and Obi-Wan, and I fucking love it.
- 11:04It's so good. Yeah, I love it too.
- 11:07And I wrote to you, when I was writing notes for this, like, I
- 11:11don't know. What was it two weeks ago, even
- 11:13when we were first talking about doing this episode.
- 11:16And I like made myself cry a little bit because I was, I was
- 11:21thinking about it. And what I said in the the last
- 11:25episode I think if Obi-Wan had fought mall and sauvage he would
- 11:29have actually won this time. Yeah yeah yes.
- 11:33And this is the first time he chooses not to fight and it's
- 11:37because the teen is literally being choked to death and says,
- 11:41don't listen to him like she would rather die.
- 11:45Then watch the man. She loves give up, who he is to
- 11:49save her. That's how good that's sad.
- 11:57It's I mean that's that's honor for both of them on like a level
- 12:05that is very rare in our real lives.
- 12:09You know. I think even texted you, I'd be
- 12:11like no, save me bitch likes, don't let me down.
- 12:17It wouldn't have worked. I think this was the best
- 12:20outcome, even as terrible as it is, it had to happen this way.
- 12:25There's, there's Things that have to happen.
- 12:28Yeah. In order for an outcome to play
- 12:30out as terrible as that is I mean we see it time and time
- 12:34again in literature especially in the great stories of our
- 12:38time. For sure, has to the loss, has
- 12:43to happen in order for things to play out for the bed.
- 12:46I mean nothing comes at no cost, right?
- 12:50And imagine at least it's heartbreaking, is it is that op1
- 12:56loses Satine mall would have succeeded if Obi-Wan had lost
- 13:01himself? Yeah.
- 13:04And even though he lost a woman he loved mall.
- 13:08Still was ultimately unsuccessful.
- 13:10Successful because ob1 remained true to his own ideals.
- 13:16Like you could say it was the Jedi and maybe he was just like
- 13:20holding on to his Jedi ideals but ultimately, it's just like
- 13:23who he is as a man. So I just I find it very
- 13:28heartbreaking but it's also the kind of thing where you don't
- 13:33really meet people like that in real life, that often it's a
- 13:36really special thing. So I think it's pretty cool that
- 13:41They didn't give the audience the short-term satisfaction.
- 13:46I don't know. Ultimately is probably more
- 13:47powerful in the long run. Well, we end up seeing it.
- 13:51He never loses himself Obi-Wan, and it brings us to Rebels.
- 13:55You know, a lot goes on between the Lawless and Rebels.
- 14:02A lot a lot mall is chilling, being creepy, hanging out in the
- 14:12death row. What is it?
- 14:13The moraband like basement. Yeah, he's just hanging out with
- 14:18crime, syndicates and being CD and living his best life as
- 14:23Mall. Still hooked on Obi-Wan still
- 14:27still looking for that Obi-Wan hit.
- 14:30Yeah, I mean, you know what he, what he does in season 7 that
- 14:34whole elaborate plan on Mandalore was to trap Obi-Wan.
- 14:38I was together. Yes and they said isoka and he
- 14:42was so pissed. I do love how he calls her lady
- 14:47Tao know though. That is so great.
- 14:49Right. Who else does that?
- 14:51I love it. I think it's great.
- 14:53It's kind of a it's like a Backhanded form of respect.
- 14:56I think he does respect her. Yeah, I think so.
- 14:59I mean they're dual is fabulous. Yeah so good from a cinematic
- 15:08point of view from a just action.
- 15:11Awesome to watch for my character development.
- 15:13From the words they speak to each other.
- 15:15We could go on for days on season 7 and Ahsoka and malls,
- 15:19you know, reunions. But when the whole thing with
- 15:22Anakin is revealed and, you know, they say, Zoom in on
- 15:25ahsoka's eyes and you know all this stuff and that whole thing
- 15:30but then he gets taken away and what what what did they put him
- 15:35in? It's like one of those weird
- 15:37boxes that have like the Jedi Vault.
- 15:40Yeah, well I don't like that at all.
- 15:42Makes me uncomfortable, it's so fucked up.
- 15:45It's so reminiscent to of certain like medieval torture
- 15:48devices. That's like the things that had
- 15:51spikes that went inward. Yes exactly.
- 15:54Little Car Fergus that. Yes, but all of it.
- 15:59First thing I thought of when I saw it so far.
- 16:02Let's talk about the Satine Shrine.
- 16:04Please, because sleaze mall is a straight-up serial killer, he
- 16:09had serial killer Tendencies and this this fucking Shrine shows
- 16:15it. Yeah, it's you know how, you
- 16:19know, how some serial killers? Take mementos.
- 16:23Mmm. That's what malls Shrine is to
- 16:27me. Yeah, it has that feel.
- 16:30And if you don't know what we're talking about, we're talking
- 16:32about the Glimpse that we see in rebels of like the Satine, what
- 16:36is it stained glass? Or art piece, or something from
- 16:39Mandalore? Yeah, it's a calloused, art.
- 16:42It looks like it was painted by Picasso.
- 16:44Yes. And he's got like odds and ends
- 16:47the darksaber. Some, some pieces of other
- 16:50things. He's collected over time, but
- 16:52the picture or the art, Of Satine has a scratch across her
- 16:57neck and a scratch across her eyes.
- 16:59Yes, that is very interesting to me.
- 17:02Yes, it's very fucking creepy. I feel like we've seen it in
- 17:08movies, you know, where you see a serial killer with the picture
- 17:10with the eyes, scratched out, especially yeah.
- 17:13And the eyes have always been an indication of death right there.
- 17:17Even in like the book Something Wicked.
- 17:18This Way Comes one of the witches eyes sewn shut in a
- 17:22cross which is an indication of Death.
- 17:25So it's interesting to me because he he already killed
- 17:29her. Like she's already dead and he's
- 17:32still, it's kind of like, inflicting violence on the image
- 17:37of her still. Yeah.
- 17:40What he's doing is taking away her life in the eyes and taking
- 17:43away her voice in the neck. Hmm, and that's essentially what
- 17:47he did. He silenced her and he got rid
- 17:50of her. And why does he hate her so
- 17:53much? Is it because She.
- 17:56Well, first of all she was a pacifist.
- 17:57So she stood it basically against everything that he
- 18:00believed in, and the Sith code for that matter and pieces.
- 18:05Alai, bitch, literally wall is probably scratching out her eyes
- 18:09st. Peter's Fly piece of that
- 18:10eyepieces hot. But at the same time she was
- 18:15also like the biggest connection to Obi-Wan and the fact that he
- 18:18fucking failed even trying to kill her.
- 18:20Yeah. So how I see it?
- 18:23Okay. In the back.
- 18:25Ground when mall first leads Ezra into this back room in here
- 18:30and the death of Eric castle. Yeah.
- 18:34The word on the wall room in blood red his Kenobi.
- 18:40Yeah in Mandalorian. Yeah.
- 18:43It's the Mandalorian. Alphabet and it says Kenobi and
- 18:46there's all these like look like they're Written in Blood like
- 18:50maps and manifestos. Whatever the fuck you want to
- 18:53say like all Under the name. So it's almost like the
- 18:58violence. He attacks on the portrait is
- 19:00like, he kills the teen again. Yeah.
- 19:04Her Toby one, even though it's not even there.
- 19:06It's like it's like he's acting it out again.
- 19:09Even just by himself because he can't do it.
- 19:12He cannot put his ob1 enough in person you know like he didn't
- 19:18make hope he wouldn't crack. He wasn't successful.
- 19:20So he's just keeps replaying the scenario.
- 19:23I just are Hurts so good and so fucking creepy.
- 19:28Did you also notice that satine's theme plays when they
- 19:31show the portrait? Yeah.
- 19:34Like God damn it just keep layering it on its so twisted
- 19:40and menacing and then they throw in her theme to.
- 19:44I it's a little nugget that they added in Rebels that they didn't
- 19:49need to, but it adds to the absolute insanity and Obsession
- 19:54that mall has. Yeah, because he's been doing
- 19:57all this crazy shit with Ezra and it's been dragging out over
- 20:01Seasons, it right away and even like back-to-back episodes.
- 20:04They Were like sprinkled throughout the season for a
- 20:07couple of seasons. If Ezra had even fucking picked
- 20:12up on any of this, he would have liked.
- 20:14Hello, knock knock. Is anyone there?
- 20:18No, he's a, I know. He's a fucking kid.
- 20:20But like, come on. Oh my God.
- 20:22Yeah, look around. Read the room as well.
- 20:26Literally, it's on to the wall. Like you happened upon a
- 20:30mysterious stranger on moraband. Like don't trust them.
- 20:35No, no pretty straightforward. I would say.
- 20:40I have thoughts. I mean, he's going to these
- 20:43insane extents? Right to trick Ezra because it's
- 20:48probably kind of entertaining and to especially get get the
- 20:52better of Canaan. Not cuz he has anything personal
- 20:54against Canaan but because it's probably fun to fuck with
- 20:58Canaan. Oh yeah.
- 20:59You can fuck with a Jedi's gonna do it.
- 21:02Yeah. And he's he's saying to Ezra the
- 21:04four episodes, right? That like we have the same goal
- 21:07in mind like we're gonna I hate the Sith.
- 21:10Also, I have my reasons for wanting revenge on the Sith.
- 21:15He's doing all this fucking shit so he can get the to holocron so
- 21:18he can find out where Obi-Wan is living.
- 21:20Yeah. Yeah, I mean, its peak
- 21:22Obsession, I don't even have another word for it.
- 21:25It's just, it is on another level.
- 21:28It's good PC. I Makes so many noises.
- 21:37They don't have anything to say. It's just an annoys Fest.
- 21:45The, the reason these two deserve two episodes worth of
- 21:48discussion, is because Of the insane length that you just
- 21:54described that mall, goes through for one person.
- 21:59It is the hyper Focus that Palpatine has for the entire
- 22:03galaxy boiled into one person. It's like and we'll get to
- 22:09Palpatine has Connection in all of this because he's the reason
- 22:14that Obi-Wan and mall are similar.
- 22:18He's their Link in similarity because he actually was
- 22:22manipulating both of them. Yeah, yeah, on separate ends.
- 22:27Yeah. Again, he's Palpatine is in the
- 22:30back room. His own back room with his own
- 22:32Shrine. Yes.
- 22:33Sir. Connecting dots and wires and
- 22:35strings to all the different ways that he can manipulate
- 22:38everyone and keep his story straight.
- 22:40It's fucking crazy when I was re watching the episode with the
- 22:44shrine, I was thinking about how you're saying that it's always
- 22:47sunny. Reference with the like map with
- 22:50all the. It's like this is literally what
- 22:52ball is doing and literally with one person.
- 22:55He's that he's the serial killer that has like news clippings of
- 22:59like Obi-Wan is like the FBI agent.
- 23:02Who knows him so well, that the Wright brothers fixated on him.
- 23:07Yeah, no one else can apprehend this serial killer.
- 23:11Except the man who knows him best?
- 23:13I mean, it's it's a really good if you were to change the song
- 23:16and make it real life. Like alternate universe stuff.
- 23:19Hmm. This would be a really good
- 23:21Crime Story. It would you can just repurpose
- 23:25the plot into like a modern-day crime would be amazing.
- 23:29Honestly, I would read that. Maybe I'll write it.
- 23:34I'm sitting here considering it like do it.
- 23:36Oh my gosh. You should.
- 23:38I love like FBI crime. Murder mystery shit.
- 23:43So yeah I know an odd amount about serial killers.
- 23:48Yes, I think that's just like a thing.
- 23:50It, have you seen that Saturday Night Live?
- 23:53Oh, I have. Yeah, the commercial about how
- 23:55women like their husbands or their out for the night and
- 23:58women and hit the like, what are you gonna do?
- 24:00Oh, just gonna hang out and like what they're really doing is
- 24:03drinking wine and watching my order for yes that's me.
- 24:07That's me, that's me. I just like how the mind works
- 24:12that's why I'm all is so interesting to me because he has
- 24:15the mind of someone. Yeah.
- 24:18That is on par with some of the most notorious killers in our
- 24:22history. He's yeah, he's got that
- 24:25Sinister, really smart, really covers his tracks noses, his
- 24:32subject knows how to re very Charming.
- 24:37Yeah, he's got that sociopathic. Mmm.
- 24:41You know, can bend anyone to get what he needs to make this
- 24:44happen except except Obi-Wan. Yeah, I Loved how he talked to
- 24:49Canaan, right? Right, though.
- 24:53So interesting because at moments, you just don't know if
- 24:57you should trust him and it's my no more than ever and Rebels,
- 25:01like, especially when Ezra has the holocron yeah.
- 25:06And while says jump, trust me and Ezra jumps and more catches
- 25:12the holocron and not Ezra, and he's pulling up by the holocron.
- 25:16And you're like, is he gonna kill them?
- 25:18It and they give them like a look in his eye for a minute and
- 25:21then he changes his mind and saves the boy as well as I
- 25:25usually saves the boys because he can still use them.
- 25:28Exactly out of pity. Still useful.
- 25:30Exactly all the way up through. Okay, so let me ask you this,
- 25:34speaking of Ezra and his usefulness, hmm.
- 25:37How do you feel about as for being in the Twin Suns episode,
- 25:41I don't like it. I don't think he has any reason
- 25:43to be there. I don't.
- 25:45Yeah, he should have been discarded out of the store.
- 25:48Three prior to this. This doesn't have anything to do
- 25:50with him. He was a means to an end for
- 25:52mall, but he didn't need to meet Obi-Wan.
- 25:55Yeah. He was there and then he wasn't
- 25:58Obi-Wan sent him on his way. And I don't see the the walking
- 26:02through the desert and passing out and he awakes with Obi-Wan,
- 26:06it's just like, it's so unnecessary.
- 26:09It feels really forced. Yeah, it didn't.
- 26:12Maybe they were trying to bridge the gap but I don't think it was
- 26:17necessary. They could have They were using
- 26:19as is like a means to manipulate Obi-Wan's compassion.
- 26:25Yeah, well they couldn't use anybody to do that.
- 26:27You could have used any one literally and not and the tusken
- 26:31Raiders and all the all this stuff.
- 26:34It's just yeah. And then Ezra goes back to the
- 26:38rebel base and says I shouldn't have lived.
- 26:41This is my home, this is my family, it's like, yeah, because
- 26:43this was an unnecessary plot Divergence that went nowhere.
- 26:48Yeah, see. We're not we're not afraid to
- 26:49criticize Dave filoni and team. Yeah, I know.
- 26:54Rebels is very, very popular, and we probably got have the
- 26:57popular opinion on this, but I never liked this story.
- 27:03The twin Suns episode, I don't like it except the part between
- 27:08mall and ob1 and seeing how they both are this point.
- 27:13I loved the famous Kenobi. Scream!
- 27:16Yes! Well, I that that lives.
- 27:18For me, thank you, right Sam, Witwer forever for doing that.
- 27:23I don't like every vein and is never stopping that thing has
- 27:28been used and reused, and I will always approve of it any time.
- 27:31Anyone has something to say about Kenobi, that that gift is
- 27:34used so good. Oh my God.
- 27:40Maybe I'll add the sound bite in here just like it's do it.
- 27:44It's so short I can use it. It's so So, epic Kenobi. so twin
- 27:55Sons, I we've discussed the duel before and it is A lot of people
- 28:01had thoughts that that's it. No, that was it.
- 28:06It was well done in my opinion, especially if you've watched
- 28:10them through their entire cycle. And you see that epic fucking
- 28:16crazy long duel and Phantom Menace, that goes off for 45
- 28:20minutes and then the duels that they have in Clone Wars are yes,
- 28:26longer. If you're an intelligent
- 28:30swordsman, you're learning from each encounter.
- 28:34Correct. A so by the time 0, b, 1 is in
- 28:37the desert, the Kenobi Series has already happened by twin
- 28:41Sons, mmm-hmm he's already fought Vader, right?
- 28:47So if he has that strength, which I know didn't exist when
- 28:51they wrote Rebels, but let's look at it with the full
- 28:54perspective, right? Yeah.
- 28:57Mall is nothing. Compared to what he's already
- 29:00dealt with, and he's seen it before, mall is so predictable.
- 29:05He's been down this path a thousand times at this point
- 29:08with this individual and it's, it's nothing to Obi-Wan.
- 29:14You said yeah it's just Molly's nothing three strikes and he's
- 29:18down that's it, right? And real swordplay swordplay but
- 29:23like swordsmanship isn't that about having a long extended
- 29:28dual real swordsmanship is Quick.
- 29:34Yeah, get it over with. Look at an example Raji right.
- 29:39They have a series of cuts where it's like the first is the blade
- 29:43comes out. The second is the blade either.
- 29:45Severs the neck or the inside of your thigh.
- 29:49Yep. And then they kill you.
- 29:50It's the three-step process. Yeah.
- 29:53So it's about efficiency and and Obi-Wan has something to protect
- 30:01that is more more important than anything before and Mall knows
- 30:06it. And Mall says it and I do like
- 30:07that moment where they just time is up malls.
- 30:12Only got a few things to say and he chooses to ask the question,
- 30:17are you here to protect the chosen one or whatever?
- 30:19His phrasing is and yeah Obi-Wan's like yeah and it makes
- 30:25it clear. At that point you can take
- 30:28absolutely anyone at this point away from Obi-Wan but you won't
- 30:30take that child. No yeah.
- 30:33He's the hope. The hope he is Future and and
- 30:37Mall says, so at least, he will avenge both of us because fuckin
- 30:40Palpatine is the reason these two motherfuckers came together
- 30:43in the first place. And why all this manipulation
- 30:47all this loss? All this Revenge building up on
- 30:49malls part, you know, his abandonment and is he being used
- 30:53and then even sauvage being used and discarded and all of this.
- 30:58It's Palpatine and Luke's going to take care of it.
- 31:02Luke and Leia But, you know, at this point.
- 31:06Yeah. Is it really is a beautiful
- 31:10combination because mall is peaceful at this point.
- 31:13He needed Obi-Wan to kill him to relieve him of this fucking
- 31:18suffering. Yeah, yes.
- 31:20And this was the only way it had to happen and for op1 to have
- 31:25that compassion at the end. Well, for a man who took his
- 31:30mentor, his love, his hole. Whole like life and turned it on
- 31:36its head for him, to still be able to find compassion and
- 31:39maybe he wouldn't have gotten there.
- 31:41If he hadn't have had the experience that happened in the
- 31:44Kenobi Series. So, very true, very true.
- 31:47That changed his perspective on everything.
- 31:49Yeah. And when you tie, all all of
- 31:53Obi-Wan's stories together, they actually fit very nicely.
- 31:57You know, they really are complementary, even though they
- 32:00were written way out of order. Right.
- 32:03And I think they've done a nice job of putting everything in in
- 32:08a perspective that makes sense for him.
- 32:10For the most part, I do want to say that Obi-Wan's compassion,
- 32:16that is displayed at the end there, the way he cradles them,
- 32:19the way he closes his eyes, he builds him a pyre, it's this
- 32:22whole thing, and there's this weird understanding that, I
- 32:26think Obi-Wan came to find that. There's pity he actually had
- 32:29pity I think from all because, You look at someone and the
- 32:35amount of hate they Harbor. They're not happy.
- 32:40Yeah, he saw Anakin literally take the form of Darth Vader.
- 32:45And how? What anger and hate did to him.
- 32:48Literally changed his best friend, his brother into
- 32:51something. Unrecognizable not just in like
- 32:55visually, but like, emotionally, totally changed individual, and
- 33:01he sees what hate. Can do.
- 33:04And that you would pity anyone that has that much hate in
- 33:07their, in their heart, wasn't by choice, was it by upbringing,
- 33:13You could argue any of this. But that you always choose in
- 33:15the end how to act, but the the amount of hate that one Harbors.
- 33:22It's just, it's unnatural and I think Obi-Wan new it and the
- 33:27pity he had, you know, this was a lost soul.
- 33:31From start to finish, despite all the things that he took from
- 33:34Obi-Wan. You found it in his heart to be
- 33:37like, you know what? This this, this individual this
- 33:42Add. All of this hate and lost his
- 33:46life for it, like, literally lost his life.
- 33:49He could have turned it around. Yeah.
- 33:51And you already watched Anakin lose his life to this hate.
- 33:55Yeah. I would have compassion to
- 33:57because who the fuck would want that for anybody?
- 33:59Yeah that's a really beautiful perspective to draw honestly.
- 34:03It's such a, it's such an interesting cycle and it's a
- 34:07full complete cycle. And I do feel sorry for Mall,
- 34:12you know it's potential wasted total waste.
- 34:16Yeah, and I feel bad for anyone who's just discarded.
- 34:21Yeah. What they do after that is on
- 34:24them, that's their choice. But we've seen Ventress
- 34:29discarded. We've seen Ahsoka discarded.
- 34:34Yeah. You know, in a way and anyone
- 34:37who's ever had that happen that Talking Cuts deep, right?
- 34:42Yeah, and man, I I feel bad for mall but every choice he made
- 34:48after being discarded was on him.
- 34:51Absolutely. Yeah.
- 34:53Yeah. Because at that point he was
- 34:55free of Sidious is manipulation and those.
- 34:57Yeah, he choices. He was making.
- 34:59He lived in Anger to sustain himself.
- 35:02That was his, he could have just, you know, died in Star
- 35:09Wars Not have that but no not allowed.
- 35:13And I would like to ask Mall as he's in Obi-Wan's arms.
- 35:16I would like to have asked him. All is peace like a lie because
- 35:21you finally found it. Yeah, I hope so.
- 35:24Like you hope that even in that last moment he does seem to find
- 35:29some sort of resolution. I hope so because every living
- 35:33being deserves that imagine, you know, you burned your whole life
- 35:38and have nothing and then you go into death.
- 35:40With nothing and that's really sorry.
- 35:42Did you say burn your life to see a sunrise?
- 35:44You'll never have to for a sunrise, you'll never see ya.
- 35:48I guess I'm just stealing and are quotes from the for the rest
- 35:53of my life now that shit's burned into my memory so that's
- 35:56not going anywhere. Same goddamn, it is it good, we
- 36:01love you. Star Wars, even if you are
- 36:03painful, rest in peace, small, bye.
- 36:11Could you go back to our listener question?
- 36:20This week is how would you rate the twin Suns episode and the
- 36:25Dual specifically between Obi-Wan and Mall?
- 36:28Did you love it? Did it leave you wanting more?
- 36:31Was it perfect? How do you rate this episode?
- 36:37And we'll be running social media polls to follow.
- 36:40This up with so yes, let us know.
- 36:46Okay. Next week we are getting back
- 36:48into analyzing Clone Wars episodes and we're gonna keep
- 36:51the Twisted going with The kadavo Arc.

- 36:59we've talked about it before but we're going to get real deep
- 37:02into these epic. Yes.
- 37:03And we're going to do them in installment.
- 37:05So join us back here. We're going to cut a Vo.
- 37:12Last week, we talked about the Obi-Wan and Mall in the earlier
- 37:16part of their Glides. So hmm, what was it Phantom?
- 37:21Menace through Revival and one of our listeners, Kenobi wolf
- 37:26sent us this comment. Hi Kenobi wolf.
- 37:30Sorry. He said I think they both have a
- 37:35Relentless passion or a Relentless determination.
- 37:38It's applied very Differently Kenobi is selfless and he
- 37:41applies that to helping others and all the pain.
- 37:44He absorbs, he has his moments but he doesn't get off course,
- 37:48whereas mall, I think the same is true for mall.
- 37:51After he comes back from the trash file, he is Relentless,
- 37:55and he sticks with it, but he causes pain.
- 37:57Whereas Obi-Wan absorbs, the pain.
- 38:00Yes, that's excellent. Kenobi wolf.
- 38:03You always have really good Insight, really good comments
- 38:06and that that does not disappoint this one.
- 38:08No. He's cracked Obi-Wan absorbs, it
- 38:12and makes himself better because of it.
- 38:15Yeah. And Mall shows how being to
- 38:19single-minded actually kind of destroys you?
- 38:23Yeah, yeah, excellent comment. I thought that was a great
- 38:27Insight. Thank you so much for such.
- 38:30A, an awesome comment. As usual, as usual, wolf, as per
